Pregnant Long Island, New York, Homeowner Worried After Spending Nine Days Without Power

"Hit P s G Long Island is still trying to restore more than 8700 outages. Earlier today, WCBS reporter Sophia Hall spoke with a woman in her ninth month of pregnancy, who tried for days to get crews to respond to her home. Rebecca Gutierrez stands near the fallen power wire at her home here in Huntington. She's nine months pregnant. It's 10 degrees hotter, she says. Inside her house. She has two young Children. One experience a heat stroke. She has called the Long Island every day. She's the only house in her area without power. Been on bed, rest most of the pregnancy and this is you know, having a baby during a pandemic is one thing. And now at eight, the extra layer of not having power and not knowing if I'm gonna have to bring a new horn home into a hot house, not really helping, she says. Customer service reps tell her because she is a single outage. Our house is not a priority. One of the latest responses I got was that I should go stay at somebody's house that has power during a pandemic. When we've been quarantining for the past five months, Senator James Gordon wants the president of Long Island to resign or be removed so far, the spokesperson for the utility has not commented. The president has said they brought in many out of state crews are working around the clock to get the power back on to everyone. Sophia Hold that be CBS News Radio, 8 80 WCBS news

Stereotype. The stereotype is the idea that. Lack, women typically our class figured lighter skin and with some tape of nine kinky hair, the the the Mulatto type woman is sexually overt and think a Karma Jones right. So Carmen in that movie would be the idea of a jazz about but people forget the conversation where. Black women and their relation also centralized as mammy. So fat dark skinned black women who have kinky hair who are considered not necessarily sexual, right? Because they're not the Jacksonville and yet they reproduce and take care of children. They are the form other four People Gov as the Welfare Queen, they're having tax they're producing but certainly seen as very sexual, and then there's also the Sapphire and the Sapphire is comes from and Andy rate in it's considered that kind of ball buster type woman who is like all well, you can't handle me and. Attitudinal and maybe like a clair huxtable, I will tell you when we will be together in this way and then there's the superwoman. So the Black Superwoman, this idea that women can make a dollar out of fifteen cents, take your communities in their children and their partners and their job and every. Old In an amazing and they're never exhausted or tired always pleasant attitude and the considered asexual right because there are so strong and they don't even need sex and nobody's willing to really them because they don't need have this. Physical pleasure or satisfaction lives. All of these other stereotypes? The only one that people went to focus on was the jets as I pigeonholing. So what do you think that is do you think that people aren't even aware of all these other stereotypes? Be Aware but I don't think that their sexuality is as amped up and I think that a black woman in charge of her own sexual pleasure is scary for some folks. We have a lot of shame I was personally told as a child to call maybe China pocketbook Zionist, governor. Yeah You keep your pocketbook close and you keep it off the floor. Right those are the two things you learned and I was like. That's interesting. Why would it ever be on the floor but the idea that if you had his own sexual pleasure, your type of Ho, your some type of one time and. over-centralised homequote not wifey material right and so I don't think the other ones get as much play because they are somewhat more acceptable.

And is it true that you constructed a fake Russian tank and it was used on the streets of Saint Petersburg James Bond movie. Goldeneye? Yes, we did. Yeah. We did that. How did that come about? So perhaps you could set the record straight firstly in what context did you say the words Jewish people are among? The cleverest in the world. It came up in conversation. About Physics I've always an interest since I was a boy in astrophysics. because. I couldn't believe that one hundred years ago almost. Albert Einstein we're talking about such abstract subjects as light being affected by gravity. And he works out the speed of light, which was a phenomenal thing to do in the nineteen twenties. How did this man come to realizations about what actually control the will then what does control the world? And the whole universe that we live in? So. My interest was based on this philosophy. On physics. And when the lady Mico sleater told me that she was a qualified physicist and she was American. It was almost involuntary question for me to Oscar. She was Jewish and again, this was a private lunch at a private lynch over Cup of coffee. Now, it was also reported to say that you said that black men on the privileged needle help that they can get. Yes. I did say that. Because I've worked all over the world of work in Africa I worked in South Africa Mozambique worked in North Africa. And I realized that a lot of people in Africa are culturally disadvantaged. Cheaper to anybody else. But. The coach or they grow up in doesn't give them the advantages that we have in the West. And therefore, I was always prepared to give them extra help. In addition to this, it was reported in the Times by Phillips that you told Dr Burner. Most Nigerians did not have it in their DNA to be engineers. Is this true? Absolutely not true. This was one of the spiteful comments made by my course. Lita. In a fifth of of temper to get me set knowing. It would certainly get me ten. She also alleged other city things. Like that I was a totalitarian. Does, one become a totalitarian over coffee break. Did you say anything about DNA and African students I said nothing about ten not not an area of expertise of mine. I know nothing about it I only know that gets us by the police. In various reports, you read in the papers on I know nothing about DNA.

"A Taylor its planes break shot exactly how autobiographical many of his songs are who the Suzanne of fire and rain was and how she died his music might be more confessional in feeling than fact? I mean you could listen to the title track of Sweet Baby James. For most of your life and fully understand the sweetly exhausted deep green and blue emotions it describes without ever knowing that it was an account of James Driving home to North Carolina to meet his nephew his older brother Alex's newborn son also named James her. Maybe that's just me. I mean listen to that song for decades at least once on the very turnpike from stockbridge to Boston that talks about and I definitely understood all the feelings without ever really knowing the story at first American standard seems like something completely different. I mean this is James Taylor singing other people's songs and show tunes hard exactly confessions but look at it this way. American standard is Taylor's first album in five years but hardly his first time playing covers. He's been singing them for a long time. If you don't count his version of the Nineteenth Century Stephen Foster Song Oh Susanna on sweet baby James then you'd have to count his version of Carole. King's you've got a friend on his next album mudslide slim. And then there's his duet with his then wife Carly Simon on Anez and Charlie Fox's Mockingbird in one thousand nine hundred ninety four and his great reworking of the Nineteen Sixty Jimmy Jones. Hit Handyman on. Jt In nineteen seventy seven. I mean he released a whole album called covers in two thousand and eight in the more covers. Ep In two thousand and nine and both of those have a lot of old soul. Aren be and motown songs on them in a way. Those covers our form of autobiography as he explains in break. Shot and talked in depth with me Taylor grew up playing that kind of music alongside his brother. Alex in a band they had called the fabulous corsairs. An American standard tells story in a similar way. These are songs. He grew up hearing. Some were on albums in his parents record collection in North Carolina. Some he heard on family trips to New York City to see Broadway shows a regular of ed organized by his mom. He does a version of Surrey with the fringe on top from Oklahoma on the new album. And it's not even his first time recording a song from Oklahoma more covers starts with a lovely version of. Oh what a beautiful morning has that James Taylor? Trademark Mix of Lucy Finger picking and reserved Bossa.

"My guest this episode is James Taylor who has two new recordings out right now. American standard is album of classic tunes drawn from the Great American songbook break. Shot is audio book a memoir about his family his music and his life until the age of twenty one. The first is full of great melodies songs. Like pennies from heaven. Sit down. You're rocking the boat. Moon River all rendered with warm intimacy and delicate control. The second delivers strikingly direct accounts of Taylor's joys and struggles including the depression that saw him hospitalized is a senior in high school and the Heroin Addiction. That began not too long after when he moved to New York City in nineteen sixty six or so to try and make it as a musician. Playing a regular GIG at Greenwich Village Club called the night owl with his friend. Danny Korchnoi and their band. The Flying Machine. It took Taylor a few more years than that defined fame and fortune. And as he recounts in break shot it also took a fair of luck. He tells the story in the memoir by turns horrifying Hilarious of a car accident in London where he was living in nineteen sixty eight while he recorded his debut album for the Beatles label apple and while we're talking about luck. Let's talk about recording for the Beatles label apple in nineteen sixty eight while the Beatles are working on the white album but anyway driving home early. One morning Taylor talks about how he was high and holding drugs that he scored and he hit a man when the cops showed up he was pretty sure that both his career and his life were over before they'd really begun but it turned out the man that he did was okay and then in fact he'd been running away from the cops who ended up thanking Taylor for stopping the guy. Beatles are not that I album went nowhere but in early. Nineteen seventy Taylor release sweet baby. James with his first hit fire and rain that album that song they would help define a style that itself helped define the nineteen seventies confessional singer songwriters..

"Are you guys feeling Regan yeah was that wasn't air that Air Guitar was at a different tar guitar very well done very well don't do one of those Dan things and say what What just happened right before the show started because I looked down and I saw this uh Tuesday October eighth two thousand nineteen print out of you know the top stories of the day and it says top story wizard reporter Fred Cat adshead funny typo yesterday quote Bobby Portis is out for the Knicks with a confused left rib no preseason revenge game tonight story guys his ribs confused totally confused where am I on the side on the right side it was actually Arab used and so you know trying to find content the show right so I go to the back and I asked Billy Billy you got anything on Justin verlander today not really I haven't really got into the playoffs here's our baseball guy here's the thing is he and I'd like to extend an invitation because things looking bleak for Stugotz and myself last week we declared we were raised guys right and everybody else we invited everyone else to get on the bandwagon with me cigarettes and Dickie v to be raised guys postseason and everybody declined our offer Chris wanted to be a Yankees Guy Mike wanted to be a twins guy and they want to be a dodgers dodgers reading that Roy Moore as guy now no it's too late as it is not too late it's not too late for you to be raised guy because it's totally for Roy is is he wasn't here when we were assigning teams Greg you're welcome have to be arranged guy hemorrhaged all right slogan is I want to raise I'm Greg Arrays Guy too easy you're now raise guy here's the goal we want to do a world series game from the trump stugatz myself and now is the and Greg you're invited to join us soon now there will stadium worst I've ever been no you can't say that it really is we're trying to get in for the world series that we love it you're no longer with us winky he's already eliminated it should be fair to say that we've not been invited to the trump to do a world series game even if they make it to the world series however that's our goal and maybe maybe the first pitch maybe get some baby blues raise gear because we're raised guys you know gnashing there's not many raised guys outside of TV so we want to raise guys and things were looking pretty bleak for us when they went down on two but now is the time to be raised guy if you want to be raised guy is he I don't know any raise guys how can I be the talking about the actual rate it key and I get some information on the raise I need I need to be pulled in to be raised well Chris has the whole roster he knows how much they're all making a raise guy even though he's a Yankee Fan by chance less than Zet grinky is making wow you could cheat listen I got some last names aren't even know something you can keep recruiting me for to be raised guy that's fine that's actually not where I was going with this Blake Snell raise guy close yesterday Also Cy Young Award winner did you know that no I did not yeah I drafted him in my fantasy team two and a disappointment to start off the season for Billy fantasy baseball team so I traded him and I'm hoping that that trade plays off because it's a keeper league but I think I got Domingo her mind that deal and he he ran into some trouble so I don't know what his status is going to be next season this season over yeah no but this is a keeper league and team was awful at the beginning so like I'm hoping l. hoping some of those keeper Pixel Path for me down what am I looking for in this game five Oh man winner go home is he that's how it works in the first round yeah this is one of the things that are looking for that's it that's one of the things well as raised guys ruling for the race to advance because if raised on advanced in the race Guy Gimmick kind of dies so I just turn on the TV and just start cheering for advanced now you want the race to win what do you mean yea but nobody in particular just advance no that's a good thing about being raised guy we're all about the Cataldo nobody knows anybody we're not looking for anyone in particular to be great we just want the team to do well the Astros Have Garrett Cole on the bump and the as they're gonNA come at you with the whole kitchen sink you don't really know what they're gonNA do Charlie Morton should be one of those things that's in the kitchen sink because Charlie Morton is unbelievable in the postseason glass now starting ooh wait last night it was last last name glass and he's now starting or his name Glasnost last night one glass who come up with a great everybody because I was talking about Charlie and you're like tyler glasses has now started down like they just made an announcement and Roy was updating I last now starting I know what it is Oh no baseball I thought it was more likely that there was a pitcher named tyler glass in tyler glasses like a right so yeah so you guys aren't raised guys I'm bored I mean like the baby blue idea Chris tweeted out something yesterday that I thought was fascinating that I'm assuming he just stole from someone but I don't know he stole from Yeah yes I did Kenny Albert said it on the broadcast oh the raise apparently had like one hundred and forty three different starting lineups this season forty nine oh and actually I tweeted that out and people started coming back at me the Yankees because they had a lot of injuries had one hundred and fifty five lineups they have a hundred and sixty two games and they had a hundred and fifty five for the Yankees and a hundred and forty nine different lineups that's insane mix it up aired boone's trying to show off can you know justify what he's doing they're not to take a shot at Aaron Boone but Kevin Cash against doing the same thing you don't need to move your lineup that much the Yankees fifty-five combination of injuries Kevin Cash I don't know of a ton of injuries they had that guy just likes like he starts closers like he's just wacky so when I asked Billie about Justin verlander and he said he's got nothing well he was a horse he's a horizontal that he became a verb after his first start in the postseason this year now I did not see that he burland erred the raise last night I think that his team was ver- landed in the shoe fits and then billy told me this statement will always have Carafe James that was his contract gas and if you don't know what Laura James is go ahead billy all right you gotta do you gotTa do a couple of things first all over if you're listening to get on your phone so don't do this on your phone while you're driving go to Lebron James's instagram right now at King James and look at it with that view or you get all of them sort of anyone don't look at an individual pics profile exactly so are you there Mike you're going to be our subjects on King James I see so the the the square see like nine or ten ten twelve scores yeah all right so you see Lebron is there and the second pictures tiny Anthony Davis and then he's they're short list the next picture you okay great now take a mental picture K.. "Back. Hey break. Yeah. And now to go back to camp a lot of really dark bad things are happening right away. I I know that there are some movie references happening in this. But I don't know what they are. 'cause I'm dumb. But it's okay. I I know that Lisa's Lisa starts to kinda. Right. Her letter like throughout the episode, and it's like this very like dramatic. Yes. Cinematic remembering that, this was kind of conceived as a film like Ken burns civil wars that what they're making. Say it's like, a dickens e n level of life child labor. You know, and there's just so much happening in this. But one of the things that would be very remiss to not play the clip of is the crusty song because it is just so good much. By george. Fester. I love it. Then the stage classes, it's very satisfying to me are remembered track was on I forget which Simpson's album. So I like, no it from there's like a lead in of like, the very full metal jacket type sergeant yelling and all the fat kids goes into this song. Yeah. Fun. I do like the phrase just like we're not gonna stop until this Christmas ham giddy up. Skype is very funny. I wanna say a little bit of trivia about this episode. So as we discussed, you know, James L Brooks wanted it to be a movie, but the episode itself was eighteen minutes long. So that's short for the twenty two minute run. And they had to add extra verses in the camp crusty song to get it to relay. Yes. So there are committed. It was like algae and James L Brooks being like if we can't even make a full episode of this premise. I think. Figured something out. I would imagine. But that wasn't good quip. And they also I read they wanted. They thought Mr. black was gonna come back. It's like a recurring character Sarry file got him. This has well my very favorite lines night. Don't think I realized it was from this episode. But it's just when like things are so dire at the camp. And the the big kids are being like so mean, no one's even being able to get their mail. And like, you know, when the male does come they like eat their cookies, it's it's really awful the chili being cookies. Yeah. But my favorite line is just like I feel like I'm gonna die. We're all going to die. I mean soon. So did I. That line that something that I somehow managed to bring into everyday life. I thought you were going to go 'cause I actually didn't catch this the first time I thought, and and you know, really really got it this last time. But when they contrast that I think is right after that scene of like, they're shivering in their freezing cabins and just like so purple and cold, it goes to this like really likes, you know, rich cabin that like all the camp counselors are with Mr..

"I 'cause because the big sick was our version of rom coms, but also does James L Brooks movies, like broadcast news or terms of endearment. Like, that's what we wanted to make our version of that and with horror, Emily, and I have talked. And we wanna do horror. But to both the fact that just feels like magic like I don't know how they I think that what happens is they just throw every all these studios throughout horror movies all the time. And you get sucked into seeing them because they have a good teaser. They have and they're mostly just not very good. I see them over and over and they break, my heart. And I just think they don't you don't need big stars. You don't need. You don't need big stars. You don't need a lot of money. You need a good story. And you need the right store or in the in the right scares. You don't need to always have a sound effect to scare people know. And I think the great thing about horror movies that is is that it's gotta be primal, right that fears. Gotta be primal. You're gonna your real guttural freaking. Oh my God. I'm in that guy, the strangers. You're like, oh my God. Oh, just could happen. This could happen. Have you seen a movie called them? Yeah. Them's real good. Them's real good. It's real good. And I think horror and comedy are both similar. In that the boat. Based on surprise, right? Like, you're not gonna laugh at something. If you see it coming. You're not gonna get scared at something. If you if you if you see it coming so both of those I think are are very similar, and I think both of those are also why I think they're also most misunderstood by critics their comedy and horror the most that like, we'll get bad reviews, and then years later, they're classics because I think that require full attention. And if you're a credit you writing notes, you're looking up and down you can't get into them. So that that's my that's my theory, by the way, not a knock on critics. I love critics. I I read a lot of movie criticism. I don't know how I feel about it. I mean, the rotten tomatoes thing. I just escort says he wrote a good article about that. It's like people used to people used to hear about a movie and then go see it. And now, they're just being told not to see all these movies. And you know, if they get reviewed during Oscars and they're like a low brow comedy. They don't take seriously. So you're getting misinformation. So it's you know, it's what it is. It's if there's so much information out there that you know, you wanna have critics. But I like the old days when there was just Cisco neighbor two guys, and it's like these guys kind of liked it. Yeah. The ball guy better. The fact I I try to not even watch trailers of moving me. Neither me neither do I will read reviews of movies after I've watched it certain people whose writing I like just to see how they thought about it..

"James l brooks really brought a lot of that too it's you have to make this family a real family you have to write not just for jokes but you have to right where you you're invested in the characters and so this just feels really bizarre to use them the way they did to make them not particularly empathetic or caring but really following an agenda again that shows the fragility like you can't handle criticism and what that means is that they're scared that's what i see i mean you're scared of change but you know in comedy when people are doing the same things for thirty years we call them hacks right you know we say it's unoriginal we say that like they're not growing so to me it's it's just it's sad because they let these other outside things influence how they write an incredible show if he's funny you mentioned james l brooks because i see the simpsons the most people see this simpson's as kind of like the the convergence of macaroni creation like james l brooks is tv har james l brooks help create taxi and shows like that macaroni was asked if you had any opinion on the criticism of apu and he said i think at the time in our culture where people love to pretend they're offended he didn't watch the movie i'm sure he didn't watch the movie most of the people on the simpsons in watch the movie a most of the people almost all the people on the internet that go after the film haven't watched the movie they they fit the moving what they think it's about into an argument template that already exists about political correctness and how we can't say anything anymore and everything's going to hell that argument was there before my movie came out and so they fed right into that they fed right into a culture that talks about political correctness but never explains what that means and it's very disappointing from someone who who's made incredible shows like i love futurama i love the simpsons it just feels like it's a lot of of people who made no real attempt to try to.

"That's why this is so painful in from what i read like james l brooks really brought a lot of that too that you have to make this family real family you have to write not just for jokes but you have to right where you you're invested in the characters and so this just feels really bizarre to use them the way they did to make them not particularly empathetic or caring but really following an agenda again that shows the fragility like you can't handle criticism and what that means that they're scared that's what i see i mean you're scared of change but you know in comedy when people are doing the same things with her years we call them hacks right you know we say it's unoriginal we say that like you they're not growing so to me it's just it's sad because they let these other outside things influence how they write an incredible show he's funny you mentioned james l brooks because i see this the most people see the simpsons is kind of like the the convergence of macaroni creation and james l brooks is tv har james l brooks help create taxi and shows like that macaroni being was asked if you had any opinion on the criticism of phut and he said i think at the time in our culture where people love to pretend they're offended he didn't watch the movie i'm sure of he didn't watch the movie most of the people on the simpsons in watch the movie a most of the people almost all the people on the internet that go after the film haven't watched the movie they they fit the moving what they think it's about into an argument template that already exists about political correctness and how we can't say anything anymore and everything's going to hell that argument was there before my movie came out and so they fed right into that they fed right into a culture that talks about political correctness but never explains what that means and it's very disappointing from someone who's made incredible shows like i love futurama i love the the simpsons it just feels like it's a lot of people who made no real attempt to try to understand which is why really appreciated hankas areas response on colbert.
