"They win games and then in the next offseason, Sean Payton wants a sign. Jamis Winston. It tells you that he's not all in on taste of it tells you that he wants a security blanket that look, maybe maybe Sean Payton really believes if you give me a full off season, and I can dictate the offense of terms around tastes and hill that he could be a starting quarterback, and I just want to make sure if he goes down, we've got a good starter behind us. And James Winston, is that That's hard for me to believe that you would spend free agent money on a good starting quarterback and let's face it. I mean, Jamis Winston is a guy that they turn to immediately when Drew Brees was injured. The moment he goes down. They don't go to taste of hell for the rest of the game. They go to Janus because he fit the offense better and cleaner and they didn't have to rework everything around them for the game. And also remember how much that Sean Payton was having in hiding about who was going to be a starting quarterback that week. Was it gonna be Jamis? Was it gonna be tasting Hill? There is something there that is both parts hesitation about giving tastes of the full offense full time and The hesitation toe push Jamis away. He wants Jamison the phone. And he sees the potential there and he sees what he could make out of Jamis Winston and it is possible. Also, guys That there was this belief from Sean Payton. That said, You know, we think he could be more than a part time quarterback and Taysom Hill and then they got Jamis and said. No, You know what? He's a better thing. They had already signed taste with that contract that had him in the system for so long and then looked at James has had not. You know what? No, no. We can't get rid of Jason Jamie's because he actually fits this whole thing better. I just find it very interesting because all signs publicly pointed to taste of being the guy this offseason. No questions asked at the same time gonna be happy doing so And now suddenly that plan is off kilter and it's we want we want both of these guys. We will pay for both of these guys. That's interesting. Maybe upon the phone today 55 to 1 to four, CBS. 855.
How the Tampa Bay Buccaneers upset the New Orleans Saints to advance to the N.F.C. championship game.
"Drew brees tom. Brady eighty five years worth of quarterbacks second quarter at six three saints and then dan fish huge mistake by brief. Yeah first of all the internal pressure and second of all the physical. Play at the line of scrimmage by murphy bunting getting physical with the receiver michael thomas undercutting that outraged by drew brees. That throw was a huge tone. And that. I love the to mike evans big body in the red zone. Stay in between the quarterback and defensive back touchdown tampa bay for cash in ten six tampa ensuing drive seats trying to respond. This is james winstons. First career playoff past and dan take a look at the triggering. Yeah love the beautiful design and then trey smith leaking down the middle field. But this is really about everyone paying attention to alvin kamara. Watch the tailback in. How many blocks defenders run that way. They lead tricon smith on blocked out here. You big cat. Take great play designed by matt. Nagy that sean payton carries over to yesterday saints thirteen. Ten is the advantage there. Bucks get a field goal. So we're tied up at halftime first. Possession of the second breeze to smith again beautiful. Throw we've seen so much by drew. Brees that incites thought. Fade carry into the sideline touchdown new orleans but then later in the third dan. This play changed the entire game. It's incredible winco junior yet. Tampa new orleans wins. The right they get that slant because it's man coverage but just watch that right hand come in on that back side punch to finish that playoff for tampa bay's defense. That ball bounces right to their defender to huge turnover for them saints turnovers and the bucks cashing in. That was the story of the game. Here's brady that's leonard. Four bucks tied up at twenty cook knows. That mistake was critical. Comes another one dan. Although this one clearly seems to be miscommunication yeah really. It's really just trying to get a vertically route to evan chimera out of the backfield but what happens is never liked. Does a remarkable job of playing with vision onto drew brees patient and then no wasted movement snaps drives on that football before kamera ever turns around and drew knows that was a terrible decision. Saints third turnover leads to this brady takes it himself. Tom brady giving the bucks a thirty to twenty lead. Only the rap isn't excited about it and one last chance now. Desperation time for freeze. That is tipped in the air. And that is all she
Taysom Hill signs new 2-year contract with New Orleans Saints
"Saints extended Taysom hill and signed James Winston there is plenty of QB news around the NFL these days the latest is from New Orleans where he'll basically gets a fresh two year deal this was a way to prevent me to get the free agency next year in it's a creative you know some structure for both me and my family is as well station hill could be replacing a retired it drew Brees after this coming season so now the team has some price certainty on him for an extra year
Report: Saints Sign QB Hill, Close In on Deal With Winston

Jameis Winston became the first 30 TD, 30 INT quarterback in the most fitting way possible
"Chavis Winston's future again on Sunday the season ended why him throwing a pick six on the first play of overtime in the loss to the falcons he becomes the first member in NFL history of the thirty thirty club at least thirty touchdowns and thirty interceptions in the same season you know the expression the enemy of great isn't bad the enemy of great is good Jameis Winston is good I don't think I'll ever be great if we were running any organization ESPN NFL team what would we want what attributes would we want in our leader to me its dependability its reliability I think he's high character I think it's important and but to me that's a fatal flaw he's been a week for five years yes AT a career interceptions without that dependability I think his ceiling is to be good and not great how sorry how does it affect your decision making at quarterback from GM standpoint when your do you have to look at what's out there absolutely I think it's the axiom Jason as you want to win for today and develop for tomorrow and again Bruce Aaron's took the job he was very clearly I'm gonna ride with James Winston on the make him better but at some point you have to say Hey you know what we have to react to what we're seeing so I wouldn't franchise him and the result would franchise in is who's going to pay him a lot of money coming off of the year they just threw thirty intercepted right that's the thing I I don't mean we're talking almost thirty million dollars on a franchise tag right so I mean I think they can get a deal done for less than that well I I would need to get the deal done I mean it's right for me my I'm not signing on a big jet one of the worst things you can do when you have your hand on the ball every player's turn it over and he does it more than anybody I can't rely on that even offer me a deal and by I agree to this a further as a former player I always felt like I was a GM you guys will hold me accountable if we pay him a lot of money we're saying that turning the ball over is

Are the Houston Texans a strong Superbowl contender?
"But this morning the Texans or early this afternoon they went twenty three twenty the first question I brought up is first of all Texans they're not like the other three might not even be like the other two they're not like Baltimore other not like Kansas city they're not like the patriot style you got to wonder what happens when they meet in the playoffs if they do I don't have this confidence that this team is a Superbowl could the other no I'm totally with the army and listen even last week when they did beat the tie ins to kind of take control the division if you look at the box score the tie ins out gained in the tie ins maybe for big chunks were the better team and even today against Tampa Bay it was just one of those deals where you keep waiting for them to completely dominate if your a real legitimate contender yeah I know they jumped out to that big lead you got it you got to put the put your put your foot on the throat of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers so I am totally on board with you I know they just beat the patriots a few weeks ago I get it I don't think they're in that case see Baltimore even New England tear because obviously they would have to go to New England in the case of a playoff game I'm a hundred percent with you on that and and by the way how do you only score twenty three points when James Winston is the ball over to you like or intercepted run one back for a touchdown and and and you go ahead and you always scored twenty three points that that's very concerning it is a hundred percent I mean listen the the offense struggled all day today and I understand it was an early kick off and it's a short week and it's a Saturday but it's it's like I just said a minute ago we are now at the time of the year where you need to be playing your best football I just don't think the tech the Houston Texans are doing that right now so I'm with you a hundred percent on them and part of it was listen James was that all that stuff but independent of James being bad that was a chance for them to make a statement they didn't I I I'm I just I've been very underwhelmed by them like I said I know they beat new in that a few weeks ago but I've been under one with
Dr. David Chao talks injuries
"Dr Child always good to have you aboard for the show. Thanks for having me. So when we look at some of the injuries that kind of flakes of the skill position talents We had a big one again in Tampa and it seems to be history repeating itself last week we talked about Mike Evans. His hamstring hamstring the season ending scenario. That played out there. Lo and behold Chris Godwin goes down with what looked like a similar injury last. We saw him carted off in the tunnel in Detroit. Coincidence there is there something going on in Tampa as it pertains to their wideouts in their hamstrings as we get into the tail end of the season they run them ragged and they throw the ball lot. That's probably the only Only Lincoln Yeah and if you really WANNA go conspiracy theory Mike Evans last week. You Scott Miller Another wide receiver earlier in the game in Chris Godwin in early in the season Perriman had a hamstring issue. So if you really trying to go that way but I think it's just coincidence and maybe some of it is They're still slinging the ball around quite a bit Four hundred fifty yards for James Winston This week so so they were running a lot of routes and so forth as we talked about Mike Evans Hamstring with significant and with only three games left. We thought you and I are candidate. I think the same something's GonNa fall for for Chris Godwin here. You know there's only two weeks left there the bucks out of it The hamstring is probably going to be longer than that and he's probably headed into reserve so What does that mean I mean? Had you know from a fantasy site look for paramount. Because Winston's going to have to you. Who else is left? That's a blow. Be still my heart God. What has been the Horse Dr John? That's gotten me in the fantasy. Football finals beat up on her. Dear friend Clay Travis this past past week and in a massive showdown GonNa help that somebody else on my rosters able to step up and fill that void pain savior jokes. Because I know you're gonNA take cheap shots I'm not at all I'm not at all actually gonNA transition to another wide receiver with Adam Phelan. There was talks that he wasn't going to return until he was one hundred percent. Healthy Limited. Snap count this past against the chargers. What do you think that was maybe score or Israel setback therefore Adam feeling well? I think it's a original part of the plan in preparation. Maybe the seven snaps were only because of because of the score but he was never gonNA play fifty Think about it this way first of all if you look Ah. The history of what happened with Phelan was supposed to be a minor hamstring. You played it. Two weeks aggravated missed. Many more weeks. Try to come back to fast in in Practice aggravated again. So they've been burned twice with aggravation. Do you think they were GonNa be burned a third time when next week. They have the Monday night game against against the packers which is for the division and then even the week seventeen game against the division rival bears. This were the LA chargers not that you look past with them. But I don't care who it was only made medical sense to bring him back a little more slowly this type give them a few game raps so that he can and be good to go for the packers. I think you'll see. EEOC normal reps against the packers next week but there was no way he's going to see normal routes this week and so even when Schefter after said he was going to play and be fine. I never thought he would. But you know we all know coachspeak right. It's just another example of coachspeak another guy that's critical to the Vikings offensive successes. Delvin Cook suffered another shoulder. Injury couldn't return against the chargers. Obviously you mentioned the importance of the Monday night. Game against the packers will Delvin Cook play and if so how effective can you be. Well here's a good news. Bad News Bad news is he got hurt again and you didn't finish the game the bad news. It's actually a new injury and that's also the good news it's a new injury if it were the SC join again the right Septa. You'd have to say. Even when he plays against the packers he's one hit one play from being out against. This seems to be something to his left shoulder by video. I can't tell you exactly what it is. There's which sometimes good news because if he dislocated I could tell you. I don't think that's the case. I can't tell you exactly what he has. But it's new to the left shoulder and I think there is okay. Good chance I would expect that he will play and be good to go against the packers And I think that's part of where they said Look L.. Let us live to fight another day Dalvin and rest the rest of the game here in terms of feeling like they have a game in hand out in Los Angeles makes percents with a capable fill in like Mike. Boone had two touchdowns he actually had the second highest sparks score among running backs in two thousand eighteen draft only behind saquon so hard running running in athletic last Vikings Guy One ask you about. That's crucial to the defense's cornerback. Xavier Rhodes went into the chargers game with an ankle. Injury already played through it left left with what appeared to be a calf injury. Does he have a shot to play against Green Bay it's GonNa be hard Calf injuries linger CT Way Hilton. And uh-huh this even though he was GonNa want to at the quarterback position. It's pretty hard to break in driving the ball. If you don't have your staff there then you add the lingering ankle. I mean when you talk about multiple injuries and one of them being calf especially the positioning place as optimistic as I am on Dow Cook able to go. I'm not pessimistic and league's exist your roads being able to go last one. I want to ask you about beforehand it back to todd. The timeline probably doesn't work if it's a high ankle sprain but The seasons on the Line Right Philadelphia Dallas does lane. Johnson have a chance to play this week. I think he does first of all learning clean. Johnson Yasser Heikal Spring He might get some pre-game quote acupuncture to play area. I mean it's it's that big give a game and the other thing is he. You know Yes he's a tackle so he's a little more in space and I can guard. But but certainly it's easier to for a Lineman Wiedeman an offensive lineman to play through high ankle than some other skill position. So I think he's GonNa try everything you can to go. The question is If he can royal factor if you will be I think you're GONNA try all hands on deck type game coming up Sunday for the division and I know a lot of our board listeners Dr Chow who have been writing this Eagles Eagles train with the division future since the beginning of the season. So we'll all sit with wait and wait with bated breath as they go into that one against maybe resurgent cowboys team is short home underdogs but but before we get there. We do have a Monday night. Football game and clearly. The biggest injury around this contest is with. Ty held a lot of optimism through colts camp but you look through some of the lingering signs for T. Y.. Hilton this calf injury. Do you expect him to be able to give it a go tonight. And if if even tries how effective do you believe. He can be out there as a viable deep throat against the Saints Defense. Well you know. There's there's there's two two thoughts here the he will play thought and he won't play thought if you go by what the head coach says and very fulmer to him. Even Situation Frank Reich is if he plays on Monday. We'll be at one hundred percent. I E not playing short of a hundred percent. Well if that is actually true. He's not playing period. There's no way that cafeteria one hundred percent is lingered this long another couple of days. He's been full practice all all week and other days isn't GonNa Change Anything. There's no way he's hundred hundred percent for tonight's game. So we're going to stick to what Frank Reich really sad. Ty He's already told US T Y Hilton's not playing but we all know coachspeak and we all know this is. The colts is kind of last chance. They kind of have to win to stay in it to have any chance to stay in it so That may push what t y Hilton does and you may try. Try and go always interesting to see these guys and who's able to gut it out. As it becomes a war of attrition at this point in the season especially with playoff berths hanging in the balance team saw hang on for dear life in their respective conferences. You can follow Dr David Show on twitter at pro football doc like we say every week the single best source for injury information not only for your sports gambling but for those fantasy football ball championships. That are coming up. He's got a great podcast. Delve sometimes a little bit deeper into a lot of the injury information. Dr Chow. Can't thank you enough for your time. Although I'm going to have to cry before we continue the rest of this podcast with pain now. Knowing Chris Godden won't be available for me to go out there and win a title sort of your that gets into. Thanks as always Dr
2019 NFL Draft prospects
"We're about three weeks from the NFL draft. It's been an interesting off season. If you were bears fan last season. It was interesting the bears gone out and done a lot of things this off-season than to talk about that and much much more. We bring in our guy NFL writer, Eric at home. Nice enough to jump on and Eric tonight. Everything's good. Yeah. It was just thinking these last three weeks for the drafter get a feel like any turn into here that always does every single year seems like it takes a long time here in Chicago. We've always been interested in the draft. Because usually the bears were bad a high draft pick. And now they were smart last year and traded pigs got gotta Khalil Mack. And now they've not picking until the third round unless they make a move. But I mean, I think it seems like all their other moves have been in you know, in free agency and bringing. Players in. So it's not nearly the draft excitement here in Chicago. Like, it was when just imagine if the draft was here, and it was no bears draft pick for you know, for the first day and a half down. Admit what difficult I think it would be legal to do that. The office. Like, let's about this. The bears probably will make their selection around nine o'clock. I think on Friday night. So you settle in. You know, maybe, you know, get some food get something to eat whatever it's going to be a while. I don't think they'll be moving up. They don't have a lot of picks. So yeah, it's gotta be patience is virtue for bears fans outside of kicker because kickers not real answer. When you talk about to what's the biggest need for the bears. Hang into the draft. It's a great question. You know, I think it probably, you know, I think what they did themselves. A lot of a good favor by refunding airless, you know, and just you know for a one year deal. Right. We know he's the third outside guy. But still it just eliminated one spot that you have to kinda reach four and not reach four. But you know, have to hope that somebody is at that position waiting for you in the draft. So it probably slimmed down to two maybe three or four positions. I would think running back has to be on that list. You know, I personally would like to see. Them. Get more death on the offense of line. And I think the secondary either corner or safety would be a spot they can look at and their few defensive action, the strap that I think could play, you know, cover the flight and also places safety. So there's some versatile guys in this great year for either position a corner safety, but it's deep enough where they could possibly get somebody there. So I would just, you know, spit balling kinda Dr throwing I would say those it's likely that they could be picking one of those three spots that eighty seven toys have you ever seen as I'm asking the question. I know we've all seen it. But have you? I was gonna ask you if you've seen the situation where teams running back like Jordan Howard performed relatively well and was light by many people. And but basically the head coach had no use form at this point. And that's why they ended up moving them. Yeah. I mean, obviously, totally different situation from what happened with Levy on bell. You know, those are the exceptions to the rule, but you know, it is one of those. Position where if you're not one of the elite top, you know, five or six guys in the league at your spot. You know, there's only so much teams willing to kind of sink into that dishing. I know that there have been back strapped in the top. You know, five ten picks several years, it's not gonna have this year. But it's happened. A lot in recent history or often more often than I would've expected. I know Todd Gurley got his big deal. I know other people have gotten pretty good money. That's dishing bell sign this off season. But there's a drop off, you know. And so I think if you're not special, you know, that maybe are deemed expendable depending on the system. And so you know, I can see both sides why they moved on. And I think they feel like with Mike Davis Torri Cohen, they add one more the draft. You know, maybe Ryan dollars trading Kampe preseason hero again or something like that. But you know, we'll see I think they will try to add at least one more. And then maybe an underrated free agent to add on top of that. Daryl. Patterson is. Is an interesting guy. But he's been an interesting guys come into the league. Other people have found out ways to use them and the patriots even lined him up in the backfield as a running back. Do you expect Matt Nagy to do that? Also, not only just swing passes and give them in and around and things like that. And also given the ball out of the running back position. Yeah. It's a great option. I think you know, the patriots really the first team to really unlocked at running ability. I mean like you said when he was in Oakland, you know, other places he was running those kind of gadget runs and things like that. But I mean, they line them up as a tailback and got buffalo game was it was crazy to watch. He had twenty something carries. And so, yeah, it was it was a strange thing to think about you know, a six to two hundred twenty pound receiver who could run like the wind lining up kind of power back. But he can do it. I think that really added to the appeal. He's the perfect Matt Nagy player. They'll run kick off, you know, he could be a wide receiver if you need to. I don't think he's more than. A number four. But still, you know, having that deeper out option is important. And I think that's you know, that kinda speed if Taylor Gabriel is out there, they may not have that exact replica that so it's different version of speed. And then as you said we saw last year that he can be running back, you know, in cut a break glass in case for -mergency situation. Seahawks quarterback. Russell Wilson wants a new deal. He gave the Seahawks April fifteenth as a deadline to get that deal done. Do you think he gets done in what type of deal? Do you think Russell Wilson who get from the Seahawks? So here's my hypothetical question here. Like what they let's say if April sixteenth by parents diversity, by the way. Let's. Let's say April sixteenth. They offer him. The richest TV deal of all time. You're gonna say oh sorry. The deadline. Hey, understand that this thing happened in January. We didn't really hear about it until very recently. But meeting his, you know, giving them a deadline, but you know, it just doesn't make a lot of stints. It's not a if something magical happens on that calendar day, not as some kind of contract, you know, bonus kicks in or anything else that would prevent them from getting this thing done, or if there's some kind of you know, league deadline or something like that. It's not July fifteenth and the franchise player, so it's just one of those kind of subtle threats from the from the Wilson camp saying, hey, don't forget about me, baby. You know, I still want to get my deal. I still want to get this thing done. You know, there's an opportunity for him to really cash in. And also kind of hold them hostage a little bit. I suspect it there's a good chance that gets done. But for months now there have been whispers that you know, maybe the Seahawks aren't quite prepared to pay him. What what a lot of people think he's worth it would at least entertain the idea of. What could we get you know, trade for him? Just theoretically, what would he get you know, is worth three first Thursay? We're still talking about a thirty thirty one year old guy. And there's still a handful of teams that really badly need that franchise different speaking quarterback. So I I don't know. I still think it's gonna get done 'cause that's city loves them. Even if a lot of past teammates were the biggest Russell Wilson fan. They know how much he means for the team another couple minutes with NFL writer, Eric at home and Erica week or so ago, rob gronkowski decided to retire. A lot of people on Twitter and everywhere else going, okay. The best tight end. Maybe you'll ever play the game has retired. Who's the best tight end in the NFL? Now who do you like? Yeah. I mean, that's a great question. To kinda depends what you want. So if you guys can do with grunk did which is being impact players blocker, and as receiver, you know. And and think about all the calls that were made against gronk over the years. He was kinda like the Cam Newton of the tight end position like say what that's not interference. Though, he just, you know, even with that work in Gascony was so special. I love the fact that Travis Kelsey can be as dangerous, you know, the last couple of years he's actually been a better receiver than gronk. No question about it. But he's not nearly the blocker that he is. You know, we see some of these young pass catching tight. I mean, George Kittle out in San Francisco at times has flashed like he could be the best to way tight in the league because he blocks his tail off. He's got great receiving chops. And really the only thing that's kind of held them back injuries. I don't necessarily think you can have a long career. So this might be one of those debate that we kinda have for years. I don't think there's any one guy that fills that checked off all the boxes like like gronk did. And he had injury issues too. But still when he was out there. There's really no doubt. And I don't know that that that one guy even though there are some great blockers. It's about staying receivers you rarely see both. Do you think that Jason Witten can still be productive? I don't know man this. I wanted to I know Jason Witten the player, it was outstanding. He was just so consistent day in and day. I knew what you're going to get from. He was probably, you know, he was unsexy version of gronk and that he could block and catch fast but a year off his age. I know they say they're going to come in just and all that. His feeling this thing could kind of turn south, and we could see 'cause he looked slow by the end when he was out there last time. He just wasn't the same guy. Eric, we appreciate jumping for few minutes. We'll hopefully those go to slow the next couple of weeks. We'll talk to you soon. All right. Enjoy the run up to the draft guys. Thanks. They got home jumping on talking NFL. Like Whitten wasn't good at the end. Then like fancy players, look like, wait. Hold on. Really? Like, what is she some Witten really gonna bring to the Cowboys? Here's a guy wanted to bring up to you. Because this is a guy that I thought when he got to the NFL was going to have a bigger impact than he's head and OJ Howard at the tight end. Okay. Because what we saw in college. We thought. Okay. The when this guy gets here Dowd using is just because the quarterback situation and the problems have had do you think he can still become a dominant tight end in this league? Maybe because he did it in college. And you assume that that body type in his speed is is ability to get down field. And you know, James Winstons been not very good. No. And I think a lot of people misread what Tampa Bay is doing. I don't think he's there for the long haul. I think Tampa Bay if they could find someone else to be their quarterback. They would go with that person. Yeah. So whether or not it's trying to find a quarterback in this year's draft. Or or or planning for the future? Elsewhere. But like I don't trust him as Winston do.

"But that's not what occurred when he was with the Sean Jackson earlier this year when the Sean Jackson was loving playing with Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing them the football and literally wanted to hell out of Tampa. No disrespect no personal hardship feelings towards James Winston. He just had a better vibe as a receiver a quarterback where Ryan Fitzpatrick than he ever did with James Winston. Tampa Bay under Bruce areas took that into consideration. They made the decision at James Winston is their quarterback you Sean Jackson. If you going to sit up here in the late in football league, recognizing affect your deja not getting any younger now. And you definitely want to show them that you can still ball. But you can't throw the ball to yourself. The Sean Jackson won Tampa Bay. According to what I was told to guarantee him. His ten million dollars. They weren't willing. Because he only had a partial guarantee they will only willing to go as high as six. That's what they said six million that was going to be enough destroy he wanted out. So what they're Bruce areas. Do they found Atlantic spot from his old team in Philadelphia which truthfully speaking he never really wanted to leave? And so now he's going to be back in Philly at thirteen million dollars. And if you're the Philadelphia Eagles, his stews me without Sean. Jeffrey would Nelson aga- law. Was that hurts the crew? And now you add the Sean Jackson to that particularly since Nick foles just off eighty eight million over the next four years with the Jacksonville Jaguars with Obama away fifty million a guarantee dollars. If you the Philadelphia Eagles, I got news for.
Jimbo Fisher Coaching Record
"Kevin someone to me just sold out that program for one player in that you, you know, better than I do that doesn't ever work no sedan. Not does not. And I think that I think coach Fisher was called it. The same problem at say totally agree with you on that of the quarterback there. He I I like, JIMBO Fisher. But I never understood that because Florida state was bigger than James Winston. It was much bigger. You know? It's not it's not about the person. It's about the institution. And about school. You know, you got to have you've got to put that for a you're going to be in serious problem. I
Panthers owner David Tepper told reporters that quarterback Cam Newton sitting out the entire 2019 season could be an option
"The other item. I want to get into his Cam Newton. Now, David Tepper Ono for the Carolina Panthers. Basically alluded to Cam Newton maybe possibly having the sit out the next season. Just so they could prioritize getting him one hundred percent healthy. I love Cam Newton. Cam Newton is a star athlete stud athlete. But one could argue Cam Newton. They really learn how to throw the football until the season. When north Turner was his office coordinator because he's complete six sixty seven percent of his passes this year, whereas throughout his first seven years in the National Football League, he never completed better than sixty percent of his passes. And even that was only one time at sixty percent. So I'm not talking about moving off from Cam Newton in terms of all my Lord. He's finished he's done, etc. Etc. I'm talking about a plan b. You know, it was Cam Newton wanted to run the football when he got popped by TJ watts on over eighty I believe it was against Pittsburgh. All right. And he got hitting that show. It wasn't the same sense. An appearance was six two at that time. When all of those things happen to Cam Newton. We saw that. But it was Cam Newton that insisted on running for boy was Cam Newton didn't wanna take the capable of superman. It was Cam Newton had a problem with coach Ron Rivera for wanting to streamline and dissipate. Those running plays for his star quarterback. It was Cam Newton for that. So is the way you wanna play. But the reality is is that. One could argue. They Cam Newton. Just as a great pocket passer. He's never he never has been career. Why? It eight say ESPN, it's inundate seven to nine three seven seven six about a way, you know, what next year? I mean think about the quarterbacks that are going to be mentioned, Nick foles. You don't want him because he's getting a long term deal. He's gonna have his pick of the litter. I'd say go to Jacksonville, you consider it. You got teddy Bridgewater. You got Joe flacco. One year. Gotta get Ryan Fitzpatrick why Fitzpatrick going to Carolina for the year and do damage. That's okay gets back. What? He was looking pretty damn good until cutter decided to put in James Winston. Worth consideration

"So much of the last couple of days has been dominated by talks of coaching in college. When we've talked about the national championship. It's been this idea that for the first time we saw Nick Sabin outcoached by somebody on the big stage. And it was jarring for a lot of people. And it's reminder that even on the big stage. Even if you've been there before there are no guarantees football is a very difficult game. And at times, it can get out of control and at times, it can make you make rash decisions or rash, judgments, and I wanna hesitate to do that at that level. But on the NFL level we have seen. Especially with the amount of dollars and sense clearly at stake out in the open college football. It's more difficult to come by. Obviously, the coaches are paid large sums of money. But because the payers are not paid. We don't have that same sense of urgency around maximizing guys potential where an organization is putting massive financial bit of support behind that asset. They haven't invested that heavily all the players are weighted the same in college football the way you invest them. So the driving force is a little different in the NFL we've seen to make people may crazy decisions. And right now, I think we've seen it drive the NFL to a point of desperation where they're looking in places that before they may not have looked as readily or as quickly and in the bunches that we've seen so the hirings we saw in the last couple of days Bruce Arians going down to Tampa Bay to coach James Winston and the buccaneers which is the complete opposite of this. Bruce, Arians guy that's been around the league. He literally wrote the book. On quarterback whispering. And he's a guy that Tampa Bay is looking to help jumpstart and revitalize James Winston's career as a football player. And I thought this was interesting because as we have the conversation about. With the biggest driving force this off season. Is it maybe it's negligent to say just this off season. We know what the game's been the NFL for a while. But I think there's a different layer to it now. But I thought it was interesting gentlemen are ESPN Tampa Bay Buccaneers reporter talked about the relationship or lack thereof between James Winston and their former head coach Dirk cutter really values. You know, not just having a a, you know, a coach quarterback relationship. Also, like, a father son relationship teach dole really dog young father himself. So being able to have someone that he can have conversations with outside of football is really huge for him to and I'm just not so sure that him in dirt cutter had that connection. That was the whole reason they kept her cutter cutter was supposed to be Jameson guy. And so now, we're going to learn the veterans wasn't necessarily the case. That's the issue with all this is if you make a higher based on and assumption, that's not real. Then we got problems now Dirk cutter going back to be the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. But that's what's at stake. Here. I'm not so concerned about reaching on a guys resume because I understand for let's say cliff Kingsbury. This is going to be one that on the surface when you look at his resume at Texas, Texas Tech, excuse me, you're going to say man, this guy doesn't deserve. The air quotes deserve to be a head coach in the NFL. And you'd be right. If that's the only thing that we judge by. But that's not all that coaching is I get it's a results based business all these different things. But what the NFL is looking for right now. I don't think it's all that shocking. Now, not everyone agrees Coleman Costa, Freddie and Fitz. Simons here on ESPN radio said this a head scratcher for the cardinals. Arizona Cardinals fan right now scratching my head going. All right. You didn't look at the one year NY understand that. But then you move on this guy, who's not success the college ranks. And now you're thinking he's going to be that next. Great head coach in the National Football League. If I'm a cardinal's fan, this is a complete reach. And you just wonder how much of this will fall on his face and their faces in about two or three years time first and last Michael junior here on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. The cardinals can textually is the most difficult one to understand because Steve Wilks was shown the door after a year in a way that I strongly disagree with. Because what coach is going to be able to show their worth in a year more than anything. He's the one coach you can argue in a lot of this came in the way, structurally that I'd be comfortable with which is you have a coach who's allowed to be a part of the process of drafting his quarterback. Josh rosen. They come in together. And now after one year you've decided he's not the guy one year after you were certain he was your guy, and this was a coach that you wanted to hire and bring on there. And so I understand responses like this on the one eight hundred flowers dot com Twitter feed from the dapper tweets in not only is the Arizona higher of Kingsbury baffling, but it kind of makes a mockery of the Rooney rule. I hate to be that guy. But it's difficult. Not to have those thoughts crossed your mind in the context of this off season where we saw a large number of African American head coach is shown the door where we've seen some other hiring processes come under fire for making a mockery of a rule. That has a difficult time. I'm having the effect that it is designed to have. I can absolutely understand the frustration with that contextual with this situation in particular to then go to Kingsbury. But if I'm just assessing this as a higher and what I expect going forward. I won't begrudge anyone for feeling some type of way about the process, and what this has done. But I understand the forces that drive this process, and it is literally all about the quarterbacks. It's really about. Have you spent time with Sean McVay and also been connected to the quarterback because you comported cliff Kingsbury is record. But you could also look at the quarterbacks that he is groomed and from working with Johnny Manziel at Texas sane MD. Davis Webb at Texas Tech to obviously Patrick Mahomes, this kind of the crown jewel of this conversation. If you're cliff Kingsbury. That becomes. In my mind, the selling point, but it's not even that as much like, yes. Your connection to a quarterback is certainly what people seem to covet right now. But whether it's hearing from Louis Riddick are ESPN NFL front office insider, whether it's talking and hearing from Dan Orlovsky, former NFL quarterback and current analysts for us. It is. Interesting to me that we seem to be enamored with the wrong things when we look at these successes of a Sean McVeigh. Because that seems to be really be the one that people are trying to find we all saw Jared Goff in his first season. When he was still there with Jeff Fisher. It looked terrible. He looked lost. He looked like a guy the moment was too big for. And then we saw the turnaround with Sean McBain we said man if that guy made that happen with that player. Anything is possible in a day and age where we're trying to figure out how to reach these young quarterback sooner. Because we know the clock is ticking. Once you draft that rookie on your best window your best odds as a team to build a team and win. You can call it risk and will Cain hosted the Wilkin show here on ESPN radio did now here's the thing. I'm not saying well flu is going to be a failure. And I'm not saying Kingsbury is going to be a failure. I'm saying that these new shiny objects are a little bit like going to the gambling table. You're throwing the dice out there. It's possible. Did she hit your Mark? It's possible. It you crap out. And of course, that applies anybody. But these feel particularly risky, particularly unproven. Matt floor who is now the coach of the Green Bay Packers. After one year the offensive coordinator for the Tennessee titans after spending time with Sean McVay in Los Angeles with Kyle Shanahan in Atlanta. And with both of them in Washington before that like you see where the tree comes from in all of this. But it ignores what makes the central pours. The foundation the roots of the tree the best is Sean McVay as the leader. And what the Rams did supplemental supplementary around him. Bringing in quality offensive lineman loading up with worse than a weapons that are going to fit in that offense. A defensive coordinator on the other side that is respected. That's going to be able to handle that ball. Now this season handling it with limited success. We know the struggles that have been the Rams defense, but foundationally they did the right things that had nothing to do with just the quarterback position and the development there that Sean was able to take advantage of and make happen. So if you're looking at this now, what lays in front of each of these guys becomes even more fascinating. Because cliff Kingsbury has a lot more on his plate in Arizona. He's got a quarterback who is just coming off his rookie season who is expected to make that big time jump, but is not protected while in front of them has an aging receiver as his true number one right now and Larry FitzGerald on the outside as a defense that underperformed this year with a guy like Chandler Jones as a pass rusher that maybe could still be the dominant piece for you as opposed to Green Bay Matlin floors walking into I think a much more tenable situation. Where you've got a hall of fame quarterback. You've got an offense that went healthy. Can protect Aaron Rodgers wells any team in the league has a true number one now in Davante Adams and defensively. We know a lot of this was about what they wanted to do. And who they wanted to keep in my on the defensive side, you've got marquee talented each level, Mike Daniels guy like Blake bar tina's in clay Matthews. Linebacker gyro Zander who looks like a star in the secondary. Matla floor is a guy who you can question success of in Tennessee. But we know what he's connected to you can even go all the way back to college where he served as the offense of I believe offensive coordinator quarterbacks coach at Notre Dame. When Sean Kaiser was there another guy who is going to see in Green Bay. So. This is a guy who connects with that position cliff Kingsbury is a guy who connects with that position. The motivation is clear you don't have to scratch your head to try and figure out what these NFL teams are doing whether they're going to be able to do it. And the rest of the situation surrounding them is what matters a lot more and you see just in looking at those loan one is set up for success right away. And so the owners will be on Matla Florida perform cliff Kingsbury is going to have all this lumped on him. But a lot of what has to be done in Arizona's outside of him. And so the context of these situations can't be ignored as we try and project who of these new hires is going to have success, and who of these risks..

I'm doing great excellent. You know, it's funny this week. I heard I don't know if you heard this. But. Greg Williams who to me. Why don't really work in Cleveland locally in the week? And I have no desire for Greg Williams to remain the long-term coach Gregg Williams. I think he's about as old school is old school gets and he referred to some advanced analytics this week. And I almost was brought to tears Sam because well, I think I think that all sports need to have a good balance between old school scouting and new school analytics you'll so many old school football guys are so hesitant look where we are in baseball. Now. Right. The sport is completely run. Everybody has an analytics department in basketball and football is dragging their feet a little bit more in some organizations, but the here an old school coach like Greg Williams referred to some advanced analytics. That was that was wild for me to hear it must have. I don't know if you heard it. But it probably would've made you happy. If you did. Yeah. I think you're right football is behind baseball. And how that kind of stuff is gone, but everybody understands that it can help you how you present it to all of these people know, so head coaches are often the last guy to get on board. But it's because you need to present it to them in in the right away. Now, there's a ton of ways that say the PS database can help is those guys. But if you come to them initially where you know, something they don't wanna hear they're not going to buy. But if you immediately show them something, you know, a fancy pretty grasp the chosen exactly what they've been saying for years, suddenly they're all on board. So I think a lot of teams the league you're just starting to sort of see this time where the analytics guys or people that have been using the stuff within the Bill. Building for years are finally starting to figure out how to present it to coaches added presented to general manager is and you know, the guys bad again in front of the media. And that's when you're starting to see this filter out. I think it's been used a lot within the building for years already. But now we're starting to see those guys use it on a daily basis and get the headline stuff sent to them in a way that they're they're much more comfortable with gesturing at an and actually taking it on board. We're talking with Sam Monson pro football focus lead analysts Sam. Baker Mayfield has had a tremendous season. As a rookie as put up some big old school numbers if you will. But when when you went from a pro football, focus perspective when you guys run the numbers on what he's done. How would how does he great out compared to some other rookie quarterback's of the past? Yeah. I think you do need to go to quarterbacks with a pass because he hadn't shoulders above any other rookie season right now. He's a top ten grade quarterback in the NFL. He's tense overall. Just one physician behind Russell Wilson. So you're already talking about it really really well graded player right off the five. And obviously pro football focus was very high invade your Mayfield coming out were the guy is the winter by for him saying that he was the best prospect in this draft in it really wasn't close to the next guy. I think so far. That's that is being born out. We have seen better performances in the past rookies. I think that twenty twelve season was a pretty incredible year for rookie performances. Obviously it didn't last because RG three in particular had a phenomenal season that year, and then tours and really hasn't been the same player since. But you know, Baker Mayfield is looking as good as we've seen any rookie quarterback. Look probably dating by twenty twelve season. We're seeing some really impressive play from him. And I think his play generally has been better than even the statistics suggest because you had one of the highest rates in the NFL right five and drop rates. And unlike most of the times when a receiver drops the ball, it's an incomplete passes. It's not doing that much damage to your passer rating, or whatever but Baker mayfield's have multiple assets that have been hit his receivers and my hands and ended up as interceptions. So those are taking a sledgehammer to operating over the course of the season. It's ninety three. Point four right now. And this is a season where passing is exploded operating ninety three point four is nice great at the moment. But it's his performance has been way better than that. We're talking with Sam Monson lead analyst pro football, focus Sam, let's talk about another rookie and that saquon Barkley who probably be battling Baker Mayfield for rookie of the year. From an offensive standpoint. There's been other good rookie running back but saquon Barkley make over two thousand total yards this season. How does he compare to Todd Gurley Leonard four nets and some of the other big rookie seasons from running backs? Yeah. I mean saquon Barkley just moved into first edition CFS running back rankings. He's the the number one guy right now through the through part of the season. He's been incredible. He's been everything that everybody who was championing him saying he would be coming out. I think he's been better than we thought. He might be there. The idea that he was a perfect running back prospect that don't think really holds up work holes in his game in particular. This tendency to to be a bit. Reggie Bush in terms of wanting to balance everything outside to look for that clay, but he's gotten a lot better in his first year at not doing that at taking ugly yards when they're there. And that's all there to be had. And it's still maximizing goes explosive plays getting huge games. Those are there. So he has been fantastic. I think again he's been as good as any rookie running back the receipt for a number of years. Really? He's I guess he's played as well. As Alvin Kamara did last year as a rookie on he's done more fulltime base. So he already has you know, two hundred more snaps than Kamara managed all last season playing that same kind of rate is Amari Cooper. Has memorial Cooper's play been much better. Or is just a the players around him made him much better. I think it's a bit of both, you know, playing wide receiver it so difficult to play. Well, if the ball isn't coming in your direction off the ball is coming in your direction in attachable manner. Having you can do about it. There's only so much fancy route running against air. You can do if the ball isn't coming your way. So I think we're seeing Amari Cooper was always a quality route runaround player that would get consistently open. And now we're seeing what happens when you target that guy. He's still a very good player and I play put up big numbers. And obviously, that's that's meaning that his greatest better because he's being given the ball and that talent is being maximized. So you know, I think that that was always there that that talent that play was always inherited his game. Even in Oakland. The raiders just weren't making use of it. We're talking with Sam Monson pro football focus lead analyst. Sam. I know you guys today had an article about projecting Cuyler Murray's pro potential. I'm curious because obviously he's a top ten pick and major league baseball. He's giving compared to Ricky Henderson. He signed a four and a half million dollar bonus. There would have to give it back obviously at a even a better year than Baker Mayfield did this past year in college, which is hard to believe. But obviously, you know, people make a thing about the thing about Baker mayfield's hike, which I thought was over rated. But obviously calamari isn't even close those big as as Baker Mayfield. A what is his potential d do you think he could be a good NFL quarterback? I think he could be, you know, you're right people that the highest the big question Mark because people did make an issue out of Baker Mayfield. Tighter on Baker Mayfield is short for an NFL quarterback. But not, you know, it's not unprecedented. We've seen quarterbacks Baker Mayfield type successful in the past. They're not obviously, not as many as there are as you know, six with three quarterbacks, but those guys have existed and they've been good in the past. I don't I don't know that we've ever seen quarterback that is Kyla Murray's Hite house significant success at the end up, right? You know, he is going to be when we get the official number on him. If it ever gets that far he's going to be significantly shorter than even a guy like Russell Wilson. And you would be in legitimately uncharted territory. When it comes to that. Now, if you're going to do that, you have to be there has to be something else to say, well, okay. That's not going to be a problem because of this and his grading has been incredible. His is great this season at Oklahoma has been basically everything is as as good. As Baker mayfield's grade had been on that was the best we've ever seen from a quarterback, right? The best seasons we've ever seen at college with one of his own. So he has a level of the best play. We've ever seen coming out of college from a college quarterback. And we've been doing this going back to two thousand fourteen but we've seen some pretty good quarterbacks over that's fine. You know, we went back, and we also graded James Winstons freshman seasons. We have got Carson Wentz you got Jared Goff. We've got right. And they got all these guys and Carl Amari stacks up to those guys. Sorry.

"A a few weeks ago? We thought it was over for James weeks ago. Is right. I mean, we wondered if he would ever get an opportunity despite being a number one overall pick. We wanted to continue to be the face of his franchise. Could it be the quarterback the starting quarterback for the Bay Buccaneers this performance right here shows that talent is there for him to be a guy that can eventually become an elite level player. If the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of ownership if I'm front office personnel. I'm looking at his performance. I'm like, man. It's there. I just gotta make sure we get to rice stuff around him be coach be a personnel. A whatever we need to make sure that we exhaust all options before we move on from him. I think James Winston might him bought himself a little more time as a temporary buccaneers starting quarterback. Yeah. It's interesting. I'm just looking at their game logs here for for Jameson. There's some numbers you can pull out and like look at some of these completion percentage numbers in games this year eighty percent. Seventy three percent. Seventy five percent. Seventy six point three percent, though. Those are some good numbers. Look at the yard totals three ninety five three sixty five three twelve in this game against four hundred some good numbers the one that's killing them is to interceptions two interceptions two interceptions four hundred and one hundred option. This is the first game. He's had we hasn't thrown pick. So to me that is that's James Winston experience shows he can be accurate Josie. Can he can push the ball vertically and be explosive? He's got to do better job protecting the football when he protects the football. He can be a winning quarterback. He just hasn't done it this year aside from this ball game. Yeah. He hasn't. What if he takes care of the ball? And I know we talked about like Madge, just take your always been a big issue with him. But when he takes care of the ball, obviously, the talent is there. So now what did they do differently in this game? I think if I'm dirt cut, I'm trying to make sure that I can try and replicate this game plan each every week that we have an opportunity to take the feel. I wanna make sure he's call. I wanna make sure that he takes enough shots. But he also takes care of the ball. That is very very important two weeks in a row he has been good. He was good when he came in with the giants. He's been he was great against the San Francisco forty Niners two and a half get. This is something that you certainly can build on the other interesting thing here with this book steam, it's not it's not fun to play quarterback. When you're on the other side of the teams going forty eight thirty four thirty seven thirty eight. I mean, that's how do you play like Jason points. I mean, everything every some of those points a result the him turning the ball over both ways. But ev- every game you're in a shootout..

No. The other day when they were making the comeback and the last week Fitzpatrick played the whole game for Tampa. I thought I thought he was last week. It's better. Fitzpatrick was binge. So Fitzpatrick had a rough first half though, he kind of looked James Winston. I'll give you that. And then but in the second half, he I guess it got them confused. They both were throwing picks. You know, the only there's only two quarterbacks that have thrown more picks than Ryan Fitzpatrick this year in one -instinians and Peterman. No, Not not really really. because Peter Rams played enough. But one is James Winston and the other one is Sam darnold. Sam darnold on a team. That's going nowhere. Well, and James Winston through ten picks four games. I'm sorry. Ten picks. Four games wasn't even four. It was like three and a half absurd. Yeah. Absolutely. That's over. That's like you're going near five interception averaging five interceptions of game. So what's your pick? Tonight. You got Carolina. What's score thirty one twenty eight last second field goal sixty six yards, by Graham, Gano kidding. I'm totally Greg Graham, kgo be less. Second field goal though. Yes. We'll be. That's that's my my bold. Bold prediction. But I'm silting. I'm still saying thirty one twenty Pittsburgh's at three and a half favorites. I mean, it could go either way here. I like Pittsburgh to win twenty seven twenty four state under the over under fifty one and a half by half a point. But yeah, I could see like a last second field, but this, but my prediction, maybe Pittsburgh. We'll get Figel Boswell kicks one. Or who knows? Maybe the Panthers will get a late. Dr that will just come up short. Maybe no misses a tying field goal or new gets picked off gonna hit a hundred and two yard. We'll ever see a person making hundred fuel hundred hundred. I mean, if the NFL's around and like eighty years, which it probably will be because there's got to be somebody that at some points going to be able to kick like an eighty five yarder. And then at some point I'm going to be able to kick a ninety ardor and then Basil's when around for over one hundred years, why can't football exactly football. It's hard to say because football. The concussion stuff. Maybe could be the into football down the road. If it if more studies come out out of the job. Yeah. So no that's hiding for a while. Yeah. Maybe billion dollar multibillion dollar industry. Yeah. This other sports still, you know. Kate nineteen Ninety-four I'll throw this one in for you for genuine glaze. So we're Nick Mullins headbutted. The after did not as crazy. He did not fake news. Mullins joins these three is the only players over the past twenty five seasons to throw for three or more touchdowns in the first game. Marcus mariota Mark Bolger. And of course, Ryan Fitzpatrick..

"This is the heard mine news fits magic beginning of the season. Remember, how exciting that was to. Let's back though, it is offensive. I just have a quarterback controversy again. James Winston sense of the best yesterday after throwing four picks inspection eighteen point whole against the Bengals member. I think it was last week. I was talking about remember that. You're not a big Jameis Winston fan. I mean, isn't a matter of being a fan of him. I just don't I don't think that he's the quarterback for the bad off field. Judgment can often mean bad on field. Judgment. Like Johnny Manziel off the field. You're like kind of ridiculous. And then you see Johnny on the field flipping people off your CASA. We know that the teams tend to tolerate off the field stuff when you performing on the field and he's doing both. It's kind of a problem. So Ryan Fitzpatrick came in and a race that whole with the fourth quarter rally including two touchdown passes and was slipping out. It's magic back obviously, the Bengals came back and spoil the comeback. But their credit was not happy about his looming quarterback controversy decision after the game. We don't need to talk about today's not the day. I'd have to decide that. Right. I mean, I don't have any problem making decisions and I'll make it when contract, but now's probably not the right time to make it. They've got Fitzpatrick comes in. And does what he always does in re would always does that first of all I super aggressive. He's a like a little Philip rivers. And he loves us all the ball down the field and Mike Evans is Tampa has got real real wide receiver talent. And real tight end talent. So Fitzpatrick is one of those guys. He's a great relief pitcher he comes in. He's hyper aggressive. He goes over the top. And he smokes them. It's one of those things with James. He's got so much talent. But you do wake up this morning. And you're like we're locked into them contractually for this year. And next year. There's nowhere to go. You're kind of trapped if you're Tampa what you do. I don't either you're you're not going to be bad enough to get to be able to draft..
Fitzpatrick or Winston: Who will start for the Tampa Bay Bucs?
"To footballs and entertainment business, and you have to convince the fans to part ways with money time. And and emotion. Loyalty dedication to the team. What are the people in Tampa? Think of Ryan Fitzpatrick versus Jameis Winston, right? I mean, I saw a bunch of beards. I didn't see anybody eating ws in the stands on Monday night. I saw a bunch of beards on Monday night. Do the Tampa Bay fans want Fitzpatrick or do they want Winston, and and coaches can say we ignore the outside of baloney. If you ignore what your fans want what the people who pay the bills want what the people who either show. Show up or don't want the people who either clamor for you to be fired or clamor for you to get an extension want. Then you're stupid. You have to listen to what the fans want, and you have to be communicating with the fans, you have to be doing focus groups and surveys, and you have to have your finger on the pulse at all times of what the people want because that's a factor. It's not the deciding factor, Chris. But if there is a clear momentum for Fitspatrick, you can't move to Winston you can. But you have to do it at your own risk until there's that clear move among the fans to go with James Winston.

"But we also you can't close your eyes and forget the first half, no, because that's what he's going to do. He's going to throw interceptions. He's going to make mistakes and not not five years ten year over ten you. This is what he's done. So he's gonna. Come back down to earth, come crashing down. I believe he's a better backup. Then James says a backup. Coming up. That's why put James back in if the why receives outside continue to play the way that they are. I believe we'll see the same productivity out of James. This is what we expected from Tampa before the two thousand seventeen season. We had them they were in. They wanted to hot picks all one of those. They're going to be a playoff team. We expected offense to look exactly like it looks now because of James, not because of fifty. So it's been a combination of guys are playing good football. Dirk cutter has called some great games. They played against some very, very Saul defense. But for me, James Winston is my starting quarterback factor in the fact that James hasn't had any game time hasn't played hasn't practice at all. You don't need practice time as a quarterback because you can throw the ball, right. You don't need to work out. You don't need them to be run. He can throw the ball just as much as anyone else. So you don't need the team to be around. You need a few guys catchable. That's what James was doing. He was working out. So it's. Easy. He was an offense lineman. He would be playing if he was running back. He would be planning. He's a quarterback. He would be playing the reason why? Because you can practice your skill on his shoulders, not hurt his shoulders, not sore, his shoulders, not rusty. The office hasn't changed. Curtis had the same thing. He's been calling. James has been an offense longer than Fitzpatrick to end to seize point that listen fits will give games away since Fitzpatrick came in legal five, only ally manning has more three interception games, which is crazy because tragic hadn't been a full time starter over that period of time. I mean, he's he's played happy. Everyone else on the list played around two hundred two hundred fifty games fits. He's played one hundred twenty two and fifteen of those one hundred twenty two games he's thrown at least three picks. So that means about twelve percent of the time. He's going to give the game away as happened last night despite all that I'd give him one more week. I'd give him one more week this coming week. They're actually Kogyo, and I think then you have the by week, I think puts Jamison a better. Position for success as well, and you see being keep going. All right. Let's take a break coming up. Should the jets steel bell? That's next. Pursing spurts place. Amana route. Number one, overall, pick Baker Mayfield officially the Browns, starting quarterback. The switch on the depth chart has led to some speculation on whether or not the Browns should trait tyrod Taylor see you winter out on the Browns trading tyrod out. Anytime you guys have a starter, then someone else comes in. It seems like everyone on this show. People produced the show. They wanna trade guy like stop the roster route is a good mentor to Baker. Baker being successful will tyrod being there will help his success how I'm also out because unless you're tricking him to San Francisco, where even would tyrod go where he wouldn't just be a backup there. So there's a team right now that pining didn't San Francisco, have a bigger stronger faster version abetter quarterback than tyrod. Yeah, but he doesn't fit their system. So they're bringing in Tom savage and still, I don't think they're going to be trained. So for all those reasons, and because I have heard so much this year from Patrick Mahomes about what having Alex Smith there with him, his rookie season helped him with, no, I leave leave tyrod where he is in Cleveland. Moving on sticking with rookie quarterback's last week, Josh Rosen took over for Sam. Bradford in the fourth quarter, against a tough bears. Defense is head coach. Steve Wilks announced that Rosen will be the starter in week four against Seattle. Neko you interrupt on air zone is decision to start Rosen, and they had no choice accompany points touchdown in the NFL with the extra point. Seven. All right. There averaging six point seven again, that means, I mean, listen, you have to do something..

"Well, I mean, I think if he keeps winning and keeps playing away, you has is really nothing you can do. You have to stay with them. And now here's here's where it gets really interesting. And I think at this point it's grain or they play next Monday night against the Steelers. And the next day is when James Winston eligible come back to short week before they go to Chicago to play your bears, and they have a bye after that. I think at this point you have to go with its Patrick for the fourth game, plug in James Winston, as soon as he walks in the door pets playing like this. Now he could have four hundred next Monday night net changes everything the based on what we've seen so far and we assume they're going to be three in the games. Winston missed. And now here they are two and and they're looking good in. The Steelers will crap. I think they could be, you know, I think he got a ride with its Patrick for as long as you can. And that's a real question. You know, how will Winston handle it? What will he be a good teammate? Will he will he beaten ws on the sideline to support his guy? Or will he be trying to like jostle and clamor and and built dissension and get his way back on the field this, you know they call it good problem. Having good problems. Oh problem. Trade Martin, tending? Yes. But yeah, no, with Winston is gonna have a tough tough situation. If he comes back and you've got to stand on a silent and watch those games. I think the le- just gave him three weeks so that they wouldn't be forced to deal with prime time game between Ben Rothlisberger and James went to a lot of questions that we don't want to. You don't want that. Yeah. So you think that they're going to ride them through at least the by week, then? I like that. I get two weeks to get ready for the falcons. Put your three if you're four. No, right. If somehow by some Iroquois they defeat that juggernaut that is the Chicago Bears. Then you know, then you hope Patrick through the by week and you go, you go with Hispanic faculties. Okay. I like it. I want to move on real quick to some officiating talk. You ready for this. So clay Matthews in the game against your Vikings, you can admit that that was bad call. Right? You can omit the Vikings, should've lost that game? No, not because look, it's, it's the same call that was made the other way on the game for its burping. You gotta watch me on football night in America. It's not the body weight penalty. Everybody. Thinks the penalty was declared Mathews land with all or most of his body weight on Kirk cousins. There's another violation when you lift the quarterback in drive into ground the calls. Grounded births. I mean, it's very high tech phrase for it, but it's separate from the body weight thing. And that's what Tony Karenni the referee explained that it was lifting him off the ground and driving him into the ground. That's always been a penalty. That's not a new. So yeah, we're gonna either have to delete this part or the first part of the show. I talked about how all body weight because I still think that that's bullshit. I don't. I don't think that he burp them. I think it was just like, what are you supposed to do as linebacker? He was just like hitting him in his mid sex. You can't lift him honor cousins to get lifted off the ground. If tomorrow. And it's the same thing kendricks Dorados when you lift him up, watch the hands, the hands go down behind the knee, and they lift the guy up and drop them into the ground..
