"The patriots and sign James Winston I don't think that's gonna happen but what is James Winston's next up it's a great question I mean I you know for him you you want to go through the motions yes quarterback situation in the league and you're not going to get the money you want so you're gonna have to find a way to you know get yourself an opportunity because of the lack of playing ability of the guy in front of you you know Jacksonville right now probably on his radar that's a team that you know I would say is is up the proposition I don't know go to New England and and and really get fixed quick enough to run the system that they want but at the rate dollar amount absolutely it's worth going after a guy like him you know what I think you know his his options are as far as being a starting quarterback or just not there and then you know he's gonna have to work himself into a position where he can go to our team right now and I thought Chicago up to the point where they signed Foles or got full so that that's out of it so I think Jacksonville right now makes the most sense but again that there's just not a lot of opportunity right now out there in the market doesn't seem to deem itself you know real stern on him so for a guy that came out the season with the gaudy numbers that he had there are clearly a lot of flaws in his game and for saying he's a thirty million dollar quarterback that's all well and good but right now he's not gonna get anywhere near that I just want to go back to the one final thing is are on the way out with the entity backed early the conversation you talked about how Brady vetted it paid a manning in this process because he knows Bruce Arians back from earlier in Payton's career you know it's wild has how that works I know that they're friendly now but at one time that was the the biggest robbery there was player to player in this sport those Brady manning gains them a Brady is a free agent he said and I paid him for advice well yeah I mean it yeah yeah yet you gotta go really Tom lacks the ability to to know how these things work because he's been at the same place so he doesn't understand what it's like to transition to another team and go to free agency and amphetamines and and what to look for and what what the positives and the negatives are I mean he may have a checklist that he thinks he will but why not go with the other guy the other go at the time the guy that you know make that big of an kinda you know really surprised us all when he went to Denver and and how does that shake out and that that would be an easy call for both for for him to make to get those kind of answers to those questions that he needs and I think that that's a helpful the most helpful person ringing endorsement you can go as is the guy that you're right was a supreme enemy for for so long over his his tenure in knowing what you see very confident you said you think that they're going to make the playoffs this year is there any reason why this would not work out in Tampa Bay you know I mean bearing injury no I just don't see Tom Brady led team not making the playoffs with better weapons that they had in New England as just the bottom line I mean this this team right now is is please there's an extra playoff team I mean I I just can't see it happening the the schedule is interesting obviously two games versus New Orleans he got Green Bay and you also have Kansas city this year but as far as the division stands and and the conference I think right now that after New England or shooting after Norman's they got to be the next team in that in that domino and then in twenty twenty one the Bucks actually go to Foxborough right now that's the plan well yeah that'll be it you think it would be better this year I think it definitely will be a storyline for sure but it's going to be a farm ride I really hope that that Tampa can get back to relevancy it's it's been a terrible run here over the last you know probably you know I I left in two thousand five six seven seven we won the division and then I left after that which is pretty much a nosedive so you're talking about twelve straight years of some of the worst football you could put together and and you've gone to multiple coaches multiple draft picks players GM's you know they they finally get it right here and I I think that they they really you know and I don't know what catastrophic problem it happened from a football standpoint outside of open injury and you know that's probably the one thing too I mean not as great shape is Tom Brady is in the body reacts differently as you get older and you know right now his regiment good and I you know I pray to god that nothing would happen to him but those non contact injuries to kill ieri Achilles areas and and knees those things they just even though you're in shape they get old and hopefully he can make it through manta be great again it's going to be can be a lot of interesting things are happening in Tampa Bay well see the entity back curse will be broken this year at the return to the postseason I appreciate the time is always my friend got a tactic you got it there's got to be back twenty two past the hour to Zach guild show on CBS sports.

Tom Brady & the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

"While the suspense is over. We now know that Tom. Brady's me going to Tampa. Bay buccaneers thirty million dollars per season. Which was what Michael Lombardi had predicted? It was going to take to sign Brady. Twenty Seasons forty-one Playoff Games thirty playoff wins tour in one thousand nine regular season. Wins SIX SUPER BOWLS. Three League? Mvp's seventy four. Thousand five hundred. Seventy one passing yards and five. Hundred and forty-one touchdown passes Tom Brady is leaving New England. Mike. Quite a resumes. Put up the greatest player and NFL history and the box have not had a pro bowl quarterback since two thousand fifteen when James Winston was a rookie and look at the town he's got now Evans and Godwin OJ Howard. And so on you. And I were thinking charges. But you'd said charges or bucks and Tampa Bay now that we know it makes a lot of sense because the offensive weapons and as you would sit yesterday's pod and of course you can check it all the GM shovels. We talked with Tom. Brady and detail. The key is that Bruce. Arians is willing to adjust his offense four. Tom Brady yeah no doubt I mean first of all I think in talking to some people yesterday proximity to New York was really important to like. He wanted to be able to get on an airplane. Fly Back to a you know whether he buys a home in Greenwich or somewhere. After a game on Sunday fly back spent a couple of days his family come back to Tampa and do that so that was important. Easy flight turnaround so that was there and look. This is just a tremendously great. Human being I mean Brady literally face timed most of the people that he worked with at the Patriots yesterday. Obviously being safe from People Xinhau and not could he could see anybody facetime and thanked him. I mean you're talking about one of the great human beings and it didn't work out a New England for a lot of different reasons but I think now. Tom Gets to become a little bit like manning he gets to be able to go down to Tampa he can run his offense however he can put the offense and there's just no chance no chance Byron left. Which is telling Tom Brady what he's going to run right. There's just no chance of that. Nor is Bruce Arians. I think we'll definitely see. There's been a lot of reports out there about Antonio Brown. I think we'll definitely see Antonio Brown in a buck uniform. Add more skill and I'm sure they've promised him they're going to rebuild the offensive line. But he's going to have a say. I mean Jason Light. The general manager of the Tampa. Bay buccaneers has just hired an assistant general manager. His name Tom Brady and they're going to do everything in their power to make Brady happy. They've already increased ticket sales on season tickets. It's of fork for them. We'll see if it works out. It's amazing to think Mike. And you know this with your time in New England but the Patriots Way and where guys go Mike. Rebel is traded the chiefs Randy Moss shift to the Vikings. Vince will work with the Texans Adam. Vegetarian a great second career the colts and your window. Now it's going to happen. Tom Brady with Tampa Bay. Like you said Byron left which is oh see. He's Tom Brady tells him and he's got lots of weapons. Right there Evans is probably the best receivers play with since Randy Moss. And now you can see why the line is already jumped at. The box. Went from forty to one odds to twenty to one odds to win the Super Bowl. He gets paid which is important as you would guest thirty million dollars a year. That's what he's GonNa get didn't make sense for economics but here's the key. I think when it comes to Tom Brady is. How much does he have left the tank and for all the Brady fans they would say listen? His receivers couldn't hold onto his passes right. He did not have enough weapons around him. Well now he's got the weapons and if you believe that. Brady's still got some magic left for a couple of seasons with clearly his leadership and his Moxie and his talent and a smart board than anything will lift this team higher to where they go. Jameis Winston. They're seven losses a seven of the nine losses. Last year had eighteen turnovers guy was turnover machine. So theory is as long as it doesn't make those turnovers completes passes gets things done. There's no reason why the box to have very quick turnaround next season. No doubt and I mean look todd. Bowles has done a great job with their defense and they've got more cap room to spend on what they WANNA do. We don't know what the structure of the Brady contract is. But the idea that there wasn't a market for Brady. Obviously there was a huge market for him at thirty million made more than Philip rivers at twenty-five we'll talk about him in a moment but I think for the first time in his life. Tom Brady wanted to be able to go somewhere and kind of do what he wanted to do. You know and to be. I don't WANNA call Patriot like but I mean for the Patriots to spend thirty million on a quarterback and then spend more money in free agency that violates their culture. That violates everything. They believe in and for him to do what he wants to do what she deserves to do at this point in his life. He's earned it to go out and kind of be. I think this is like a great coach. Who finally wants to be able to run his program right. You know. I've been operating in this system but now I want to go into another system and that's how I look at this with Brady's movement I mean he was never going to be able to do what he truly wanted to do in New England. Now he can do it there. He can do it in Tampa and no one's GonNa tell him he can't. I think the concern. You have to have a few of the box. Is You know. Tom Has got to relate to some of these younger players. And that's GonNa be you know. We spent a Lotta time understanding millennials in New England understanding. How he's going to relate to that because there is a huge gap between Tom and these other players. I think getting someone like Antonio Brown in there who tom loves will help them. I know that sounds crazy. But it'll help the other players in the room kind of have a relationship. Can you imagine? Antonio Brown's the great pacify higher. I mean can you imagine that? I'm saying that seriously. They give out that eighty. He's the bridge so if they did that and they improve their offensive line.

"Chavis Winston's future again on Sunday the season ended why him throwing a pick six on the first play of overtime in the loss to the falcons he becomes the first member in NFL history of the thirty thirty club at least thirty touchdowns and thirty interceptions in the same season you know the expression the enemy of great isn't bad the enemy of great is good Jameis Winston is good I don't think I'll ever be great if we were running any organization ESPN NFL team what would we want what attributes would we want in our leader to me its dependability its reliability I think he's high character I think it's important and but to me that's a fatal flaw he's been a week for five years yes AT a career interceptions without that dependability I think his ceiling is to be good and not great how sorry how does it affect your decision making at quarterback from GM standpoint when your do you have to look at what's out there absolutely I think it's the axiom Jason as you want to win for today and develop for tomorrow and again Bruce Aaron's took the job he was very clearly I'm gonna ride with James Winston on the make him better but at some point you have to say Hey you know what we have to react to what we're seeing so I wouldn't franchise him and the result would franchise in is who's going to pay him a lot of money coming off of the year they just threw thirty intercepted right that's the thing I I don't mean we're talking almost thirty million dollars on a franchise tag right so I mean I think they can get a deal done for less than that well I I would need to get the deal done I mean it's right for me my I'm not signing on a big jet one of the worst things you can do when you have your hand on the ball every player's turn it over and he does it more than anybody I can't rely on that even offer me a deal and by I agree to this a further as a former player I always felt like I was a GM you guys will hold me accountable if we pay him a lot of money we're saying that turning the ball over is

Are the Houston Texans a strong Superbowl contender?

"But this morning the Texans or early this afternoon they went twenty three twenty the first question I brought up is first of all Texans they're not like the other three might not even be like the other two they're not like Baltimore other not like Kansas city they're not like the patriot style you got to wonder what happens when they meet in the playoffs if they do I don't have this confidence that this team is a Superbowl could the other no I'm totally with the army and listen even last week when they did beat the tie ins to kind of take control the division if you look at the box score the tie ins out gained in the tie ins maybe for big chunks were the better team and even today against Tampa Bay it was just one of those deals where you keep waiting for them to completely dominate if your a real legitimate contender yeah I know they jumped out to that big lead you got it you got to put the put your put your foot on the throat of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers so I am totally on board with you I know they just beat the patriots a few weeks ago I get it I don't think they're in that case see Baltimore even New England tear because obviously they would have to go to New England in the case of a playoff game I'm a hundred percent with you on that and and by the way how do you only score twenty three points when James Winston is the ball over to you like or intercepted run one back for a touchdown and and and you go ahead and you always scored twenty three points that that's very concerning it is a hundred percent I mean listen the the offense struggled all day today and I understand it was an early kick off and it's a short week and it's a Saturday but it's it's like I just said a minute ago we are now at the time of the year where you need to be playing your best football I just don't think the tech the Houston Texans are doing that right now so I'm with you a hundred percent on them and part of it was listen James was that all that stuff but independent of James being bad that was a chance for them to make a statement they didn't I I I'm I just I've been very underwhelmed by them like I said I know they beat new in that a few weeks ago but I've been under one with

Dr. David Chao talks injuries

"Dr Child always good to have you aboard for the show. Thanks for having me. So when we look at some of the injuries that kind of flakes of the skill position talents We had a big one again in Tampa and it seems to be history repeating itself last week we talked about Mike Evans. His hamstring hamstring the season ending scenario. That played out there. Lo and behold Chris Godwin goes down with what looked like a similar injury last. We saw him carted off in the tunnel in Detroit. Coincidence there is there something going on in Tampa as it pertains to their wideouts in their hamstrings as we get into the tail end of the season they run them ragged and they throw the ball lot. That's probably the only Only Lincoln Yeah and if you really WANNA go conspiracy theory Mike Evans last week. You Scott Miller Another wide receiver earlier in the game in Chris Godwin in early in the season Perriman had a hamstring issue. So if you really trying to go that way but I think it's just coincidence and maybe some of it is They're still slinging the ball around quite a bit Four hundred fifty yards for James Winston This week so so they were running a lot of routes and so forth as we talked about Mike Evans Hamstring with significant and with only three games left. We thought you and I are candidate. I think the same something's GonNa fall for for Chris Godwin here. You know there's only two weeks left there the bucks out of it The hamstring is probably going to be longer than that and he's probably headed into reserve so What does that mean I mean? Had you know from a fantasy site look for paramount. Because Winston's going to have to you. Who else is left? That's a blow. Be still my heart God. What has been the Horse Dr John? That's gotten me in the fantasy. Football finals beat up on her. Dear friend Clay Travis this past past week and in a massive showdown GonNa help that somebody else on my rosters able to step up and fill that void pain savior jokes. Because I know you're gonNA take cheap shots I'm not at all I'm not at all actually gonNA transition to another wide receiver with Adam Phelan. There was talks that he wasn't going to return until he was one hundred percent. Healthy Limited. Snap count this past against the chargers. What do you think that was maybe score or Israel setback therefore Adam feeling well? I think it's a original part of the plan in preparation. Maybe the seven snaps were only because of because of the score but he was never gonNA play fifty Think about it this way first of all if you look Ah. The history of what happened with Phelan was supposed to be a minor hamstring. You played it. Two weeks aggravated missed. Many more weeks. Try to come back to fast in in Practice aggravated again. So they've been burned twice with aggravation. Do you think they were GonNa be burned a third time when next week. They have the Monday night game against against the packers which is for the division and then even the week seventeen game against the division rival bears. This were the LA chargers not that you look past with them. But I don't care who it was only made medical sense to bring him back a little more slowly this type give them a few game raps so that he can and be good to go for the packers. I think you'll see. EEOC normal reps against the packers next week but there was no way he's going to see normal routes this week and so even when Schefter after said he was going to play and be fine. I never thought he would. But you know we all know coachspeak right. It's just another example of coachspeak another guy that's critical to the Vikings offensive successes. Delvin Cook suffered another shoulder. Injury couldn't return against the chargers. Obviously you mentioned the importance of the Monday night. Game against the packers will Delvin Cook play and if so how effective can you be. Well here's a good news. Bad News Bad news is he got hurt again and you didn't finish the game the bad news. It's actually a new injury and that's also the good news it's a new injury if it were the SC join again the right Septa. You'd have to say. Even when he plays against the packers he's one hit one play from being out against. This seems to be something to his left shoulder by video. I can't tell you exactly what it is. There's which sometimes good news because if he dislocated I could tell you. I don't think that's the case. I can't tell you exactly what he has. But it's new to the left shoulder and I think there is okay. Good chance I would expect that he will play and be good to go against the packers And I think that's part of where they said Look L.. Let us live to fight another day Dalvin and rest the rest of the game here in terms of feeling like they have a game in hand out in Los Angeles makes percents with a capable fill in like Mike. Boone had two touchdowns he actually had the second highest sparks score among running backs in two thousand eighteen draft only behind saquon so hard running running in athletic last Vikings Guy One ask you about. That's crucial to the defense's cornerback. Xavier Rhodes went into the chargers game with an ankle. Injury already played through it left left with what appeared to be a calf injury. Does he have a shot to play against Green Bay it's GonNa be hard Calf injuries linger CT Way Hilton. And uh-huh this even though he was GonNa want to at the quarterback position. It's pretty hard to break in driving the ball. If you don't have your staff there then you add the lingering ankle. I mean when you talk about multiple injuries and one of them being calf especially the positioning place as optimistic as I am on Dow Cook able to go. I'm not pessimistic and league's exist your roads being able to go last one. I want to ask you about beforehand it back to todd. The timeline probably doesn't work if it's a high ankle sprain but The seasons on the Line Right Philadelphia Dallas does lane. Johnson have a chance to play this week. I think he does first of all learning clean. Johnson Yasser Heikal Spring He might get some pre-game quote acupuncture to play area. I mean it's it's that big give a game and the other thing is he. You know Yes he's a tackle so he's a little more in space and I can guard. But but certainly it's easier to for a Lineman Wiedeman an offensive lineman to play through high ankle than some other skill position. So I think he's GonNa try everything you can to go. The question is If he can royal factor if you will be I think you're GONNA try all hands on deck type game coming up Sunday for the division and I know a lot of our board listeners Dr Chow who have been writing this Eagles Eagles train with the division future since the beginning of the season. So we'll all sit with wait and wait with bated breath as they go into that one against maybe resurgent cowboys team is short home underdogs but but before we get there. We do have a Monday night. Football game and clearly. The biggest injury around this contest is with. Ty held a lot of optimism through colts camp but you look through some of the lingering signs for T. Y.. Hilton this calf injury. Do you expect him to be able to give it a go tonight. And if if even tries how effective do you believe. He can be out there as a viable deep throat against the Saints Defense. Well you know. There's there's there's two two thoughts here the he will play thought and he won't play thought if you go by what the head coach says and very fulmer to him. Even Situation Frank Reich is if he plays on Monday. We'll be at one hundred percent. I E not playing short of a hundred percent. Well if that is actually true. He's not playing period. 2019 NFL Draft prospects

"We're about three weeks from the NFL draft. It's been an interesting off season. If you were bears fan last season. It was interesting the bears gone out and done a lot of things this off-season than to talk about that and much much more. We bring in our guy NFL writer, Eric at home. Nice enough to jump on and Eric tonight. Everything's good. Yeah. It was just thinking these last three weeks for the drafter get a feel like any turn into here that always does every single year seems like it takes a long time here in Chicago. We've always been interested in the draft. Because usually the bears were bad a high draft pick. And now they were smart last year and traded pigs got gotta Khalil Mack. And now they've not picking until the third round unless they make a move. But I mean, I think it seems like all their other moves have been in you know, in free agency and bringing. Players in. So it's not nearly the draft excitement here in Chicago. Like, it was when just imagine if the draft was here, and it was no bears draft pick for you know, for the first day and a half down. Admit what difficult I think it would be legal to do that. The office. Like, let's about this. The bears probably will make their selection around nine o'clock. I think on Friday night. So you settle in. You know, maybe, you know, get some food get something to eat whatever it's going to be a while. I don't think they'll be moving up. They don't have a lot of picks. So yeah, it's gotta be patience is virtue for bears fans outside of kicker because kickers not real answer. When you talk about to what's the biggest need for the bears. Hang into the draft. It's a great question. You know, I think it probably, you know, I think what they did themselves. A lot of a good favor by refunding airless, you know, and just you know for a one year deal. Right. We know he's the third outside guy. But still it just eliminated one spot that you have to kinda reach four and not reach four. But you know, have to hope that somebody is at that position waiting for you in the draft. So it probably slimmed down to two maybe three or four positions. I would think running back has to be on that list. You know, I personally would like to see. Them. Get more death on the offense of line. And I think the secondary either corner or safety would be a spot they can look at and their few defensive action, the strap that I think could play, you know, cover the flight and also places safety. So there's some versatile guys in this great year for either position a corner safety, but it's deep enough where they could possibly get somebody there. So I would just, you know, spit balling kinda Dr throwing I would say those it's likely that they could be picking one of those three spots that eighty seven toys have you ever seen as I'm asking the question. I know we've all seen it. But have you? I was gonna ask you if you've seen the situation where teams running back like Jordan Howard performed relatively well and was light by many people. And but basically the head coach had no use form at this point. And that's why they ended up moving them. Yeah. I mean, obviously, totally different situation from what happened with Levy on bell. You know, those are the exceptions to the rule, but you know, it is one of those. Position where if you're not one of the elite top, you know, five or six guys in the league at your spot. You know, there's only so much teams willing to kind of sink into that dishing. I know that there have been back strapped in the top. You know, five ten picks several years, it's not gonna have this year. But it's happened. A lot in recent history or often more often than I would've expected. I know Todd Gurley got his big deal. I know other people have gotten pretty good money. That's dishing bell sign this off season. But there's a drop off, you know. And so I think if you're not special, you know, that maybe are deemed expendable depending on the system. And so you know, I can see both sides why they moved on. And I think they feel like with Mike Davis Torri Cohen, they add one more the draft. You know, maybe Ryan dollars trading Kampe preseason hero again or something like that. But you know, we'll see I think they will try to add at least one more. And then maybe an underrated free agent to add on top of that. Daryl. Patterson is. Is an interesting guy. But he's been an interesting guys come into the league. Other people have found out ways to use them and the patriots even lined him up in the backfield as a running back. Do you expect Matt Nagy to do that? Also, not only just swing passes and give them in and around and things like that. And also given the ball out of the running back position. Yeah. It's a great option. I think you know, the patriots really the first team to really unlocked at running ability. I mean like you said when he was in Oakland, you know, other places he was running those kind of gadget runs and things like that. But I mean, they line them up as a tailback and got buffalo game was it was crazy to watch. He had twenty something carries. And so, yeah, it was it was a strange thing to think about you know, a six to two hundred twenty pound receiver who could run like the wind lining up kind of power back. But he can do it. I think that really added to the appeal. He's the perfect Matt Nagy player. They'll run kick off, you know, he could be a wide receiver if you need to. I don't think he's more than. A number four. But still, you know, having that deeper out option is important. And I think that's you know, that kinda speed if Taylor Gabriel is out there, they may not have that exact replica that so it's different version of speed. And then as you said we saw last year that he can be running back, you know, in cut a break glass in case for -mergency situation. Seahawks quarterback. Russell Wilson wants a new deal. He gave the Seahawks April fifteenth as a deadline to get that deal done. Do you think he gets done in what type of deal? Do you think Russell Wilson who get from the Seahawks? So here's my hypothetical question here. Like what they let's say if April sixteenth by parents diversity, by the way. Let's. Let's say April sixteenth. They offer him. The richest TV deal of all time. You're gonna say oh sorry. The deadline. Hey, understand that this thing happened in January. We didn't really hear about it until very recently. But meeting his, you know, giving them a deadline, but you know, it just doesn't make a lot of stints. It's not a if something magical happens on that calendar day, not as some kind of contract, you know, bonus kicks in or anything else that would prevent them from getting this thing done, or if there's some kind of you know, league deadline or something like that. It's not July fifteenth and the franchise player, so it's just one of those kind of subtle threats from the from the Wilson camp saying, hey, don't forget about me, baby. You know, I still want to get my deal. I still want to get this thing done. You know, there's an opportunity for him to really cash in. And also kind of hold them hostage a little bit. I suspect it there's a good chance that gets done. But for months now there have been whispers that you know, maybe the Seahawks aren't quite prepared to pay him. What what a lot of people think he's worth it would at least entertain the idea of. What could we get you know, trade for him? Just theoretically, what would he get you know, is worth three first Thursay? We're still talking about a thirty thirty one year old guy. And there's still a handful of teams that really badly need that franchise different speaking quarterback. So I I don't know. I still think it's gonna get done 'cause that's city loves them. Even if a lot of past teammates were the biggest Russell Wilson fan. They know how much he means for the team another couple minutes with NFL writer, Eric at home and Erica week or so ago, rob gronkowski decided to retire. A lot of people on Twitter and everywhere else going, okay. The best tight end. Maybe you'll ever play the game has retired. Who's the best tight end in the NFL? Now who do you like? Yeah. I mean, that's a great question. To kinda depends what you want. So if you guys can do with grunk did which is being impact players blocker, and as receiver, you know. And and think about all the calls that were made against gronk over the years. He was kinda like the Cam Newton of the tight end position like say what that's not interference. Though, he just, you know, even with that work in Gascony was so special. I love the fact that Travis Kelsey can be as dangerous, you know, the last couple of years he's actually been a better receiver than gronk. No question about it. But he's not nearly the blocker that he is. You know, we see some of these young pass catching tight. I mean, George Kittle out in San Francisco at times has flashed like he could be the best to way tight in the league because he blocks his tail off. He's got great receiving chops. And really the only thing that's kind of held them back injuries. I don't necessarily think you can have a long career. So this might be one of those debate that we kinda have for years. I don't think there's any one guy that fills that checked off all the boxes like like gronk did. And he had injury issues too. But still when he was out there. There's really no doubt. And I don't know that that that one guy even though there are some great blockers. It's about staying receivers you rarely see both. Do you think that Jason Witten can still be productive? I don't know man this. I wanted to I know Jason Witten the player, it was outstanding. He was just so consistent day in and day. I knew what you're going to get from. He was probably, you know, he was unsexy version of gronk and that he could block and catch fast but a year off his age. I know they say they're going to come in just and all that. His feeling this thing could kind of turn south, and we could see 'cause he looked slow by the end when he was out there last time. He just wasn't the same guy. Eric, we appreciate jumping for few minutes. We'll hopefully those go to slow the next couple of weeks. We'll talk to you soon. All right. Enjoy the run up to the draft guys. Thanks. They got home jumping on talking NFL. Like Whitten wasn't good at the end. Then like fancy players, look like, wait. Hold on. Really? Like, what is she some Witten really gonna bring to the Cowboys? Here's a guy wanted to bring up to you. Because this is a guy that I thought when he got to the NFL was going to have a bigger impact than he's head and OJ Howard at the tight end. Okay. Because what we saw in college. We thought. Okay. The when this guy gets here Dowd using is just because the quarterback situation and the problems have had do you think he can still become a dominant tight end in this league? Maybe because he did it in college. And you assume that that body type in his speed is is ability to get down field. And you know, James Winstons been not very good. No. And I think a lot of people misread what Tampa Bay is doing. I don't think he's there for the long haul. I think Tampa Bay if they could find someone else to be their quarterback. They would go with that person. Yeah. So whether or not it's trying to find a quarterback in this year's draft. Or or or planning for the future? Elsewhere. But like I don't trust him as Winston do.

"Kevin someone to me just sold out that program for one player in that you, you know, better than I do that doesn't ever work no sedan. Not does not. And I think that I think coach Fisher was called it. The same problem at say totally agree with you on that of the quarterback there. He I I like, JIMBO Fisher. But I never understood that because Florida state was bigger than James Winston. It was much bigger. You know? It's not it's not about the person. It's about the institution. And about school. You know, you got to have you've got to put that for a you're going to be in serious problem. I

Panthers owner David Tepper told reporters that quarterback Cam Newton sitting out the entire 2019 season could be an option

"The other item. I want to get into his Cam Newton. Now, David Tepper Ono for the Carolina Panthers. Basically alluded to Cam Newton maybe possibly having the sit out the next season. Just so they could prioritize getting him one hundred percent healthy. I love Cam Newton. Cam Newton is a star athlete stud athlete. But one could argue Cam Newton. They really learn how to throw the football until the season. When north Turner was his office coordinator because he's complete six sixty seven percent of his passes this year, whereas throughout his first seven years in the National Football League, he never completed better than sixty percent of his passes. And even that was only one time at sixty percent. So I'm not talking about moving off from Cam Newton in terms of all my Lord. He's finished he's done, etc. Etc. I'm talking about a plan b. You know, it was Cam Newton wanted to run the football when he got popped by TJ watts on over eighty I believe it was against Pittsburgh. All right. And he got hitting that show. It wasn't the same sense. An appearance was six two at that time. When all of those things happen to Cam Newton. We saw that. But it was Cam Newton that insisted on running for boy was Cam Newton didn't wanna take the capable of superman. It was Cam Newton had a problem with coach Ron Rivera for wanting to streamline and dissipate. Those running plays for his star quarterback. It was Cam Newton for that. So is the way you wanna play. But the reality is is that. One could argue. They Cam Newton. Just as a great pocket passer. He's never he never has been career. Why? It eight say ESPN, it's inundate seven to nine three seven seven six about a way, you know, what next year? I mean think about the quarterbacks that are going to be mentioned, Nick foles. You don't want him because he's getting a long term deal. He's gonna have his pick of the litter. I'd say go to Jacksonville, you consider it. You got teddy Bridgewater. You got Joe flacco. One year. Gotta get Ryan Fitzpatrick why Fitzpatrick going to Carolina for the year and do damage. That's okay gets back. What? He was looking pretty damn good until cutter decided to put in James Winston. Worth consideration

"james winston" Discussed on Sports 600 ESPN

"So much of the last couple of days has been dominated by talks of coaching in college. When we've talked about the national championship. It's been this idea that for the first time we saw Nick Sabin outcoached by somebody on the big stage. And it was jarring for a lot of people. And it's reminder that even on the big stage. Even if you've been there before there are no guarantees football is a very difficult game. And at times, it can get out of control and at times, it can make you make rash decisions or rash, judgments, and I wanna hesitate to do that at that level. But on the NFL level we have seen. Especially with the amount of dollars and sense clearly at stake out in the open college football. It's more difficult to come by. Obviously, the coaches are paid large sums of money. But because the payers are not paid. We don't have that same sense of urgency around maximizing guys potential where an organization is putting massive financial bit of support behind that asset. They haven't invested that heavily all the players are weighted the same in college football the way you invest them. So the driving force is a little different in the NFL we've seen to make people may crazy decisions. And right now, I think we've seen it drive the NFL to a point of desperation where they're looking in places that before they may not have looked as readily or as quickly and in the bunches that we've seen so the hirings we saw in the last couple of days Bruce Arians going down to Tampa Bay to coach James Winston and the buccaneers which is the complete opposite of this. Bruce, Arians guy that's been around the league. He literally wrote the book. On quarterback whispering. And he's a guy that Tampa Bay is looking to help jumpstart and revitalize James Winston's career as a football player. And I thought this was interesting because as we have the conversation about. With the biggest driving force this off season. Is it maybe it's negligent to say just this off season. We know what the game's been the NFL for a while. But I think there's a different layer to it now. But I thought it was interesting gentlemen are ESPN Tampa Bay Buccaneers reporter talked about the relationship or lack thereof between James Winston and their former head coach Dirk cutter really values. You know, not just having a a, you know, a coach quarterback relationship. Also, like, a father son relationship teach dole really dog young father himself. So being able to have someone that he can have conversations with outside of football is really huge for him to and I'm just not so sure that him in dirt cutter had that connection. That was the whole reason they kept her cutter cutter was supposed to be Jameson guy. And so now, we're going to learn the veterans wasn't necessarily the case. That's the issue with all this is if you make a higher based on and assumption, that's not real. Then we got problems now Dirk cutter going back to be the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. But that's what's at stake. Here. I'm not so concerned about reaching on a guys resume because I understand for let's say cliff Kingsbury. This is going to be one that on the surface when you look at his resume at Texas, Texas Tech, excuse me, you're going to say man, this guy doesn't deserve. The air quotes deserve to be a head coach in the NFL. And you'd be right. If that's the only thing that we judge by. But that's not all that coaching is I get it's a results based business all these different things. But what the NFL is looking for right now. I don't think it's all that shocking. Now, not everyone agrees Coleman Costa, Freddie and Fitz. Simons here on ESPN radio said this a head scratcher for the cardinals. Arizona Cardinals fan right now scratching my head going. All right. You didn't look at the one year NY understand that. But then you move on this guy, who's not success the college ranks. And now you're thinking he's going to be that next. Great head coach in the National Football League. If I'm a cardinal's fan, this is a complete reach. And you just wonder how much of this will fall on his face and their faces in about two or three years time first and last Michael junior here on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. The cardinals can textually is the most difficult one to understand because Steve Wilks was shown the door after a year in a way that I strongly disagree with. Because what coach is going to be able to show their worth in a year more than anything. He's the one coach you can argue in a lot of this came in the way, structurally that I'd be comfortable with which is you have a coach who's allowed to be a part of the process of drafting his quarterback. Josh rosen. They come in together. And now after one year you've decided he's not the guy one year after you were certain he was your guy, and this was a coach that you wanted to hire and bring on there. And so I understand responses like this on the one eight hundred flowers dot com Twitter feed from the dapper tweets in not only is the Arizona higher of Kingsbury baffling, but it kind of makes a mockery of the Rooney rule. I hate to be that guy. But it's difficult. Not to have those thoughts crossed your mind in the context of this off season where we saw a large number of African American head coach is shown the door where we've seen some other hiring processes come under fire for making a mockery of a rule. That has a difficult time. I'm having the effect that it is designed to have. I can absolutely understand the frustration with that contextual with this situation in particular to then go to Kingsbury. But if I'm just assessing this as a higher and what I expect going forward. I won't begrudge anyone for feeling some type of way about the process, and what this has done. But I understand the forces that drive this process, and it is literally all about the quarterbacks. It's really about. Have you spent time with Sean McVay and also been connected to the quarterback because you comported cliff Kingsbury is record. But you could also look at the quarterbacks that he is groomed and from working with Johnny Manziel at Texas sane MD. Davis Webb at Texas Tech to obviously Patrick Mahomes, this kind of the crown jewel of this conversation. If you're cliff Kingsbury. That becomes. In my mind, the selling point, but it's not even that as much like, yes. Your connection to a quarterback is certainly what people seem to covet right now. But whether it's hearing from Louis Riddick are ESPN NFL front office insider, whether it's talking and hearing from Dan Orlovsky, former NFL quarterback and current analysts for us. It is. Interesting to me that we seem to be enamored with the wrong things when we look at these successes of a Sean McVeigh. Because that seems to be really be the one that people are trying to find we all saw Jared Goff in his first season. When he was still there with Jeff Fisher. It looked terrible. He looked lost. He looked like a guy the moment was too big for. And then we saw the turnaround with Sean McBain we said man if that guy made that happen with that player. Anything is possible in a day and age where we're trying to figure out how to reach these young quarterback sooner. Because we know the clock is ticking. Once you draft that rookie on your best window your best odds as a team to build a team and win. You can call it risk and will Cain hosted the Wilkin show here on ESPN radio did now here's the thing. I'm not saying well flu is going to be a failure. And I'm not saying Kingsbury is going to be a failure. I'm saying that these new shiny objects are a little bit like going to the gambling table. You're throwing the dice out there. It's possible. Did she hit your Mark? It's possible. It you crap out. And of course, that applies anybody. But these feel particularly risky, particularly unproven. Matt floor who is now the coach of the Green Bay Packers. After one year the offensive coordinator for the Tennessee titans after spending time with Sean McVay in Los Angeles with Kyle Shanahan in Atlanta. And with both of them in Washington before that like you see where the tree comes from in all of this. But it ignores what makes the central pours. The foundation the roots of the tree the best is Sean McVay as the leader. And what the Rams did supplemental supplementary around him. Bringing in quality offensive lineman loading up with worse than a weapons that are going to fit in that offense. A defensive coordinator on the other side that is respected. That's going to be able to handle that ball. Now this season handling it with limited success. We know the struggles that have been the Rams defense, but foundationally they did the right things that had nothing to do with just the quarterback position and the development there that Sean was able to take advantage of and make happen. So if you're looking at this now, what lays in front of each of these guys becomes even more fascinating. Because cliff Kingsbury has a lot more on his plate in Arizona. He's got a quarterback who is just coming off his rookie season who is expected to make that big time jump, but is not protected while in front of them has an aging receiver as his true number one right now and Larry FitzGerald on the outside as a defense that underperformed this year with a guy like Chandler Jones as a pass rusher that maybe could still be the dominant piece for you as opposed to Green Bay Matlin floors walking into I think a much more tenable situation. Where you've got a hall of fame quarterback. You've got an offense that went healthy. Can protect Aaron Rodgers wells any team in the league has a true number one now in Davante Adams and defensively. We know a lot of this was about what they wanted to do. And who they wanted to keep in my on the defensive side, you've got marquee talented each level, Mike Daniels guy like Blake bar tina's in clay Matthews. Linebacker gyro Zander who looks like a star in the secondary. Matla floor is a guy who you can question success of in Tennessee. But we know what he's connected to you can even go all the way back to college where he served as the offense of I believe offensive coordinator quarterbacks coach at Notre Dame. When Sean Kaiser was there another guy who is going to see in Green Bay. So. This is a guy who connects with that position cliff Kingsbury is a guy who connects with that position. The motivation is clear you don't have to scratch your head to try and figure out what these NFL teams are doing whether they're going to be able to do it. And the rest of the situation surrounding them is what matters a lot more and you see just in looking at those loan one is set up for success right away. And so the owners will be on Matla Florida perform cliff Kingsbury is going to have all this lumped on him. But a lot of what has to be done in Arizona's outside of him. And so the context of these situations can't be ignored as we try and project who of these new hires is going to have success, and who of these risks..

"Recovery. Time estimated three months outta college football and plenty of ball action today, Las Vegas bowl number twenty one Fresno state basing, Arizona state, Fresno state, head coach Jeff Tedford sizes up the opposition understand going into this game. We're playing a great football team. Very well coach in all areas of the game, very explosive. It's gonna be a battle. We understand that we have a lot of respect for the Pac twelve conference and Arizona state. And you know, they played very very hard kick off at three thirty eastern time. I'm Peter Schwartz. Football season. Which is why you need Sunday morning football tomorrow at ninety s- turn with me DA on CBS sports radio. Hi, this is Dan Patrick catch me. Weekday mornings seven to ten on the home of the best sports talk in Colorado. Xtra sports thirteen hundred. He's arena he calls. It. The bullpen. Come late in ten. Hang brew. Another hour. We add the booze show us. Adam the bull back our number three. Adam the bull of you here on CBS sports radio. And we're coming to you live from the Quicken Loans studios. National mortgage lender. Quicken Loans apply simply understand fully mortgage confidently. We'll continue our NFL conversation. Sam Monson pro football focus lead analyst Sam how you doing? What's going on buddy? I'm doing great excellent. You know, it's funny this week. I heard I don't know if you heard this. But. Greg Williams who to me. Why don't really work in Cleveland locally in the week? And I have no desire for Greg Williams to remain the long-term coach Gregg Williams. I think he's about as old school is old school gets and he referred to some advanced analytics this week. And I almost was brought to tears Sam because well, I think I think that all sports need to have a good balance between old school scouting and new school analytics you'll so many old school football guys are so hesitant look where we are in baseball. Now. Right. The sport is completely run. Everybody has an analytics department in basketball and football is dragging their feet a little bit more in some organizations, but the here an old school coach like Greg Williams referred to some advanced analytics. That was that was wild for me to hear it must have. I don't know if you heard it. But it probably would've made you happy. If you did. Yeah. I think you're right football is behind baseball. And how that kind of stuff is gone, but everybody understands that it can help you how you present it to all of these people know, so head coaches are often the last guy to get on board. But it's because you need to present it to them in in the right away. Now, there's a ton of ways that say the PS database can help is those guys. But if you come to them initially where you know, something they don't wanna hear they're not going to buy. But if you immediately show them something, you know, a fancy pretty grasp the chosen exactly what they've been saying for years, suddenly they're all on board. So I think a lot of teams the league you're just starting to sort of see this time where the analytics guys or people that have been using the stuff within the Bill. Building for years are finally starting to figure out how to present it to coaches added presented to general manager is and you know, the guys bad again in front of the media. And that's when you're starting to see this filter out. I think it's been used a lot within the building for years already. But now we're starting to see those guys use it on a daily basis and get the headline stuff sent to them in a way that they're they're much more comfortable with gesturing at an and actually taking it on board. We're talking with Sam Monson pro football focus lead analysts Sam. Baker Mayfield has had a tremendous season. As a rookie as put up some big old school numbers if you will. But when when you went from a pro football, focus perspective when you guys run the numbers on what he's done. How would how does he great out compared to some other rookie quarterback's of the past? Yeah. I think you do need to go to quarterbacks with a pass because he hadn't shoulders above any other rookie season right now. He's a top ten grade quarterback in the NFL. He's tense overall. Just one physician behind Russell Wilson. So you're already talking about it really really well graded player right off the five. And obviously pro football focus was very high invade your Mayfield coming out were the guy is the winter by for him saying that he was the best prospect in this draft in it really wasn't close to the next guy. I think so far. That's that is being born out. We have seen better performances in the past rookies. I think that twenty twelve season was a pretty incredible year for rookie performances. Obviously it didn't last because RG three in particular had a phenomenal season that year, and then tours and really hasn't been the same player since. But you know, Baker Mayfield is looking as good as we've seen any rookie quarterback. Look probably dating by twenty twelve season. We're seeing some really impressive play from him. And I think his play generally has been better than even the statistics suggest because you had one of the highest rates in the NFL right five and drop rates. And unlike most of the times when a receiver drops the ball, it's an incomplete passes. It's not doing that much damage to your passer rating, or whatever but Baker mayfield's have multiple assets that have been hit his receivers and my hands and ended up as interceptions. So those are taking a sledgehammer to operating over the course of the season. It's ninety three. Point four right now. And this is a season where passing is exploded operating ninety three point four is nice great at the moment. But it's his performance has been way better than that. We're talking with Sam Monson lead analyst pro football, focus Sam, let's talk about another rookie and that saquon Barkley who probably be battling Baker Mayfield for rookie of the year. From an offensive standpoint. There's been other good rookie running back but saquon Barkley make over two thousand total yards this season. How does he compare to Todd Gurley Leonard four nets and some of the other big rookie seasons from running backs? Yeah. I mean saquon Barkley just moved into first edition CFS running back rankings. He's the the number one guy right now through the through part of the season. He's been incredible. He's been everything that everybody who was championing him saying he would be coming out. I think he's been better than we thought. He might be there. The idea that he was a perfect running back prospect that don't think really holds up work holes in his game in particular. This tendency to to be a bit. Reggie Bush in terms of wanting to balance everything outside to look for that clay, but he's gotten a lot better in his first year at not doing that at taking ugly yards when they're there. And that's all there to be had. And it's still maximizing goes explosive plays getting huge games. Those are there. So he has been fantastic. I think again he's been as good as any rookie running back the receipt for a number of years. Really? He's I guess he's played as well. As Alvin Kamara did last year as a rookie on he's done more fulltime base. So he already has you know, two hundred more snaps than Kamara managed all last season playing that same kind of rate is Amari Cooper. Has memorial Cooper's play been much better. Or is just a the players around him made him much better. I think it's a bit of both, you know, playing wide receiver it so difficult to play. Well, if the ball isn't coming in your direction off the ball is coming in your direction in attachable manner. Having you can do about it. There's only so much fancy route running against air. You can do if the ball isn't coming your way. So I think we're seeing Amari Cooper was always a quality route runaround player that would get consistently open. And now we're seeing what happens when you target that guy. He's still a very good player and I play put up big numbers. And obviously, that's that's meaning that his greatest better because he's being given the ball and that talent is being maximized. So you know, I think that that was always there that that talent that play was always inherited his game. Even in Oakland. The raiders just weren't making use of it. We're talking with Sam Monson pro football focus lead analyst. Sam. I know you guys today had an article about projecting Cuyler Murray's pro potential. I'm curious because obviously he's a top ten pick and major league baseball. He's giving compared to Ricky Henderson. He signed a four and a half million dollar bonus. There would have to give it back obviously at a even a better year than Baker Mayfield did this past year in college, which is hard to believe. But obviously, you know, people make a thing about the thing about Baker mayfield's hike, which I thought was over rated. But obviously calamari isn't even close those big as as Baker Mayfield. A what is his potential d do you think he could be a good NFL quarterback? I think he could be, you know, you're right people that the highest the big question Mark because people did make an issue out of Baker Mayfield. Tighter on Baker Mayfield is short for an NFL quarterback. But not, you know, it's not unprecedented. We've seen quarterbacks Baker Mayfield type successful in the past. They're not obviously, not as many as there are as you know, six with three quarterbacks, but those guys have existed and they've been good in the past. I don't I don't know that we've ever seen quarterback that is Kyla Murray's Hite house significant success at the end up, right? You know, he is going to be when we get the official number on him. If it ever gets that far he's going to be significantly shorter than even a guy like Russell Wilson. And you would be in legitimately uncharted territory. When it comes to that. Now, if you're going to do that, you have to be there has to be something else to say, well, okay. That's not going to be a problem because of this and his grading has been incredible. His is great this season at Oklahoma has been basically everything is as as good. As Baker mayfield's grade had been on that was the best we've ever seen from a quarterback, right? The best seasons we've ever seen at college with one of his own. So he has a level of the best play. We've ever seen coming out of college from a college quarterback. And we've been doing this going back to two thousand fourteen but we've seen some pretty good quarterbacks over that's fine. You know, we went back, and we also graded James Winstons freshman seasons. We have got Carson Wentz you got Jared Goff. We've got right. And they got all these guys and Carl Amari stacks up to those guys. Sorry.

"Tampa Bay Buccaneers making the move, and it didn't take very long after Sunday's loss to the Bengals James benched. After throwing four picks. Fitzpatrick comes in and becomes fits matching. Again, wasn't enough though Bengals win it on. Randy Bullock last second field goal. But James does not get the start moving forward. It is Ryan Fitzpatrick Willie Reed into this move. Does this tell us that maybe Tampa Bay is starting to wrap up their relationship with James Winston, Dan? This was a big question for me. And I initially said that Jameis Winston would get another shot at the quarterback position because they need a full evaluation before they make the big decision to give him a long term deal to make him the franchise quarterback. But then I did a little research if. He gets hurt which they already picked up his fifth year option. They're gonna twenty one million dollars. So he's going to be stuck with him next year for twenty plus million

"Take a look at our leaders for fantasy week six quarterbacks Jada Jamie. Take about James Winston. Your start of the week is the number one quarterback. So he he was very, he really was three hundred ninety five yards and four touch any threw two interceptions. Were they both in the end zone. One was for, sir. I always seen the second one once and so I could be completely wrong here, but I kind of feel like Chris God when she was worse on that. Okay. I don't know if top my head but get hit in the back of the helmet popped up in the air, but God when was trying to Devin, funchess them and just whiffed from what I saw by the way he loves Chris Godwin. He more than two Sean Jackson more than Evans. Evans, kevin's. If what we've been telling you for the last three months is not registered after washing today's game. Go get Chris Godwin, please. Chris Kaban is fifty nine percent and I, we set it amazing. And let me let fairness. Yeah, I, I shouldn't. I shouldn't have jumped the gun with the more than two Sean Jax thing. They had to say amount of targets, Jackson actually had more yards. So I apologize for that. Is that what you're gonna say? No. I was going to say the reason he's fifty nine percent owned is because he's been very up and down, had a bye and then had a twenty yard performance down game. Up and down with yards, but he has scored a lot. It doesn't it. I don't know, seem like an obvious pick. I don't. I don't think it should be ninety percent owned guy at this point, but in the seventies sure he's fifty nine percent own. If you're gonna tell me right now, and I know the answer this, Mike Williams or Chris Godwin who should be on more. And I know I'm saying is after he scored touchdown, I would've said this to you to ago. Absolutely, same thing. Absolutely. All right. So so James is one do guys by as a top ten ish quarterback recipes in. Percent. Would you rather have James or Matt Ryan? Who's number two in fantasy points this week? Right. Both. I I've never done this before. I picked up James in attempting league that has a lot of it's very, very deep bench. I'm carrying three quarterbacks. I just didn't want any bells to get James. We only run waivers twice a week in that league, and he was just I I was like, I'm tired carrying Derrick Henry. So I'm gonna carry three quarterbacks. That's as you say that is because I would never take three quarterbacks over running back. I hate their country and I wanna see anybody beat me Jameson other than Ryan. Yeah. Well, you have three of the top six quarterbacks entering Sunday night luck with six along with Carson Wentz, but the top five is Winston Dak Prescott Matt, Ryan tied for second Mitchell Trubisky.

"Your bears took a thirty two three over the buccaneers and a half time by by. That was it. Yeah. They'll just the virus. All right there. The bears. The buccaneers assigned to me a quarterback change. James Winston who's coming off his suspension replaced. Ryan Fitzpatrick for the major of the game in the first half. Fitzpatrick completed nine of eighteen passes for one hundred twenty six yards touchdowns and had one interception on second half. Winston completed sixteen of his twenty passes for one hundred and forty five yards one touchdown, but also through June exceptions earlier today head coach Dirk koetter said that Winston will start for the team in two weeks. Volunteer by so buy or sell. Jameis Winston should be the starter for the bucks going forward. I mean, this is is this do you a trick question where he knows I have to say about James Weston is that what's going on here. Those Stu I thought it was a feel good Monday, buddy. Yeah. I had to squeeze out wondering tonight what happened to feel? Good monday. Sorry bill. I guess I by by. I mean. I'm going to argue for fits tragic now James Winston guy. There were signs of maturity slash maybe character, not maybe character. Yes. Character issues come to the college certainly his inability to be the franchise quarterback in the example, that is needed in his job those problems have manifested themselves, but it's not like this is an organization that has a choice if they got James wrong. It says back a long time. You gotta see what you go. Still the money to them on and.

Fitzpatrick or Winston: Who will start for the Tampa Bay Bucs?

"To footballs and entertainment business, and you have to convince the fans to part ways with money time. And and emotion. Loyalty dedication to the team. What are the people in Tampa? Think of Ryan Fitzpatrick versus Jameis Winston, right? I mean, I saw a bunch of beards. I didn't see anybody eating ws in the stands on Monday night. I saw a bunch of beards on Monday night. Do the Tampa Bay fans want Fitzpatrick or do they want Winston, and and coaches can say we ignore the outside of baloney. If you ignore what your fans want what the people who pay the bills want what the people who either show. Show up or don't want the people who either clamor for you to be fired or clamor for you to get an extension want. Then you're stupid. You have to listen to what the fans want, and you have to be communicating with the fans, you have to be doing focus groups and surveys, and you have to have your finger on the pulse at all times of what the people want because that's a factor. It's not the deciding factor, Chris. But if there is a clear momentum for Fitspatrick, you can't move to Winston you can. But you have to do it at your own risk until there's that clear move among the fans to go with James Winston.

"But we also you can't close your eyes and forget the first half, no, because that's what he's going to do. He's going to throw interceptions. He's going to make mistakes and not not five years ten year over ten you. This is what he's done. So he's gonna. Come back down to earth, come crashing down. I believe he's a better backup. Then James says a backup. Coming up. That's why put James back in if the why receives outside continue to play the way that they are. I believe we'll see the same productivity out of James. This is what we expected from Tampa before the two thousand seventeen season. We had them they were in. They wanted to hot picks all one of those. They're going to be a playoff team. We expected offense to look exactly like it looks now because of James, not because of fifty. So it's been a combination of guys are playing good football. Dirk cutter has called some great games. They played against some very, very Saul defense. But for me, James Winston is my starting quarterback factor in the fact that James hasn't had any game time hasn't played hasn't practice at all. You don't need practice time as a quarterback because you can throw the ball, right. You don't need to work out. You don't need them to be run. He can throw the ball just as much as anyone else. So you don't need the team to be around. You need a few guys catchable. That's what James was doing. He was working out. So it's. Easy. He was an offense lineman. He would be playing if he was running back. He would be planning. He's a quarterback. He would be playing the reason why? Because you can practice your skill on his shoulders, not hurt his shoulders, not sore, his shoulders, not rusty. The office hasn't changed. Curtis had the same thing. He's been calling. James has been an offense longer than Fitzpatrick to end to seize point that listen fits will give games away since Fitzpatrick came in legal five, only ally manning has more three interception games, which is crazy because tragic hadn't been a full time starter over that period of time. I mean, he's he's played happy. Everyone else on the list played around two hundred two hundred fifty games fits. He's played one hundred twenty two and fifteen of those one hundred twenty two games he's thrown at least three picks. So that means about twelve percent of the time. He's going to give the game away as happened last night despite all that I'd give him one more week. I'd give him one more week this coming week. They're actually Kogyo, and I think then you have the by week, I think puts Jamison a better. Position for success as well, and you see being keep going. All right. Let's take a break coming up. Should the jets steel bell? That's next. Pursing spurts place. Amana route. Number one, overall, pick Baker Mayfield officially the Browns, starting quarterback. The switch on the depth chart has led to some speculation on whether or not the Browns should trait tyrod Taylor see you winter out on the Browns trading tyrod out. Anytime you guys have a starter, then someone else comes in. It seems like everyone on this show. People produced the show. They wanna trade guy like stop the roster route is a good mentor to Baker. Baker being successful will tyrod being there will help his success how I'm also out because unless you're tricking him to San Francisco, where even would tyrod go where he wouldn't just be a backup there. So there's a team right now that pining didn't San Francisco, have a bigger stronger faster version abetter quarterback than tyrod. Yeah, but he doesn't fit their system. So they're bringing in Tom savage and still, I don't think they're going to be trained. So for all those reasons, and because I have heard so much this year from Patrick Mahomes about what having Alex Smith there with him, his rookie season helped him with, no, I leave leave tyrod where he is in Cleveland. Moving on sticking with rookie quarterback's last week, Josh Rosen took over for Sam. Bradford in the fourth quarter, against a tough bears. Defense is head coach. Steve Wilks announced that Rosen will be the starter in week four against Seattle. Neko you interrupt on air zone is decision to start Rosen, and they had no choice accompany points touchdown in the NFL with the extra point. Seven. All right. There averaging six point seven again, that means, I mean, listen, you have to do something..

"To a whole new level make the switch to pennzoil synthetics today we're taking a look at this james winston situation because it's trying to figure out up from down and what it all means and what exactly is happening here because when you when you look at something out of the blue too many of us out of the blue too many of us the news yesterday the jameis winston was suspended for three games it appears that he will be suspended for three games he's not yet been notified by the league as far as we understand but if you recall last night just as the news broke shefty joins us and said hey you know he's not gonna suspend it there's too much money on the line he's not going to appeal it there's too much money on the line next year if he is the spended then versus this year he's just heard serena williams from pro football talks they really feels like they worked out sort of a deal they knew this was coming but when you think about what would they would they understand about james we have to have a little bit of background and that's what makes us difficult now remember this comes from female uber driver that went public last fall accusing jamie's of grabbing her crotch during a ride in march of twenty sixteen winstons camp denied the allegations are i put now there's new information continuing to come out on our side that maybe sheds more light on it michelle beedle this morning on get up one of one of our best said the actions of jameis winston doesn't surprise her at all checkout we'll beat beetle head to say years ago when he was still in college i was very outspoken about what kind of character i thought james winston was and is and i was killed by a lovely group of humans that identify themselves as as hashtag fsu twitter we all receive all kinds of good things this was a specific group of people that wanted to die on the hill that this particular gentleman is a good character and fit to lead a team and fit to be the face of the franchise and i was wrong and i am this this and this and now here we are i don't have much to say other than i am zero percent shocked i'm zero percent shock we're back in the situation i'm zero percent shock that james winston and the words basically sexual assault again are going together this is abed that the buccaneers made and now they get to sleep in it now as we try and figure out sort of what happened that night outside the lines paula levine who's going to join us at eight o'clock eastern tonight paula was doing some great reporting on this and what we now have our friends turning around their stories so a friend of james winston who was with the buccaneers quarterback the night that this allegedly happened says winston left a party scene alone in the car that does not match what he's been saying up to this point so it's a reminder that the information that we're trying to to sort through is not necessarily all complete because it's still being reported on and it's still coming through so now when everybody said no no no the original the original denial from his camp was that he was never alone in the in the car and that it was a group of people and she must have been confused about what was happening or who did it now one of the people that's always been on part of that statement and supposedly was in the car has turned around and said no no no no no i had nothing to do with it it's a tricky situation because he's a quarterback and i know that shouldn't be a tricky situation but the fact is he's a quarterback we look at quarterbacks with the particular set of lenses we need a quarterback to be particular kind of person so it's very difficult because let's be realistic quarterback sell tickets quarterback jerseys quarterback so the face of the franchise how many of you out there right now driving around canadian anybody else to place with a box other than james winston now how do you balance the fact that so many of his transgressions that we've talked about in the beetle just talked about how many of that of how much of that.

"Today at the app store to follow up on james winston and the fact that he reportedly is going to be suspended for three games remember when it first came out winston had an alibi and that's ronald darby who served as a witness to this former florida state teammate of james winston now he said that he was in the car and james winston was not in the front seat that he was actually in the backseat well the nfl has done their investigation they determined that darby who insisted that winston did nothing inappropriate while receiving a ride from an uber driver had not been in the car for the entire duration of the trip so also what's even more troubling is ronald darby plays for the eagles served as a witness in the twenty twelve rape case against winston so serving as a witness there twice and it proved that he was not there the whole time for this dr darby said via a statement that when it first came up at myself and james were in the back seat i'm confident nothing inappropriate in nature happened in that car that evening and james did not have any physical contact with the uber driver the accusations are just not true if darby wasn't there for the entire car ride it's impossible for him to know whether winston did something that he should have done bought the nfl did their investigation and then they found out that ronald darby was not there the whole time i got a stat of the day here seton and then we'll get some phone calls so if you hit the music.

"And then of course my first second was at two thousand fifteen first and second draft picks marqus mario james winston at quarterback and then can't play him at the same time and get like one quarterbacks value we'll see the nice thing is i've been getting a lot easier here you end up getting a lot of bad games i love james wins i if you only jameson i would feel the exact same as you having winston in mario well you guys don't believe in morioka the way that i do this year but as correct mike it's your turn makes case the judge shelter rule i drafted out of the nine slot and speaking of a cornerstone at the nine sought i was able to get oto beckham who i just want to remind people the first three years of his career he is average way to say you're making a real case i just want them feels for the listeners not at all this was because i mentioned this to jason at xueping out stupid outdoor pickle ball that you just he was hurt last year so you just need a reminder his first three years oto beckham averages nearly fourteen hundred yards and twelve touchdowns so do not forget how good owed l beckham is please please hooks at the wide receiver position this is where i'm very stout oto beckham keenan allen larry fits marvin jones and robbie anderson and that's real nice at the running back position not as known but renewed penny dairies geiss marshawn lynch aaron jones cory clements i'm doing the vance dance at the tight end position so i know that it's by would be considered by far the weakest of the group probably of the draft and matthew stafford is my quarterback now before you make any sort of initial ruling brooks this is a great time to remind our listeners that when you're mock drafting wherever it is and you get that grade.

"Head coach dirk carter is in over his head on a variety of levers of may levels and maybe he is i don't know but it it certainly feels like falling apart it all around in tampa and you would want jameis winston to be the guy was holding it together not the guy who's out there kind of provoking someone else on the field and while you're right mike evans is respond what he did if you turnaround and you don't know what's going on and you see a guy shove your quarterback on the sideline i know you you're gonna come flying in there too i i i i don't know if i'm doing that i'm not i'm not i did was wrong there's no question james winston is the reason it had there's no question i'm coming in there there is no doubt about it but as i said mike evans came from a distance away so he could see the situation lattimore was not going after jamus he pushed him and then stood there and was john with them he wasn't going after him so that semantics i'm not getting into that i'm not blaming jamus winston four mike evans being suspended that's on mike evans but i don't get what jamus was doing because i'm with you what other what other leader truly their franchise quarterback of the day now i seen quarterbacks getting the grill of defenders in do that you know to try other stick up for their teammates or if they're in a situation where they feel it's that said i seen that but what he did i don't get no no you see the quarterbacks and no one does it more than brady does he talks trash out there on the field arron rogers with his touchdown to that one thing but now you're on the sideline you're not in the game and you're kind of tapping the guy that had with her what he's do i don't either i don't either i have no idea what he was doing so that's what i meant when he said a little insult added to injuries a winced at his out at least a couple of weeks and by the way the buccaneers play the jets this week and say you know what that means ryan fitzpatrick we'll be facing the jets all he will fitzpatrick ana four who ryan fitzpatrick or for the jets did you see the way he.
