"They didn't play great against those teams, but Oregon didn't play great against Stanford. They lost. They didn't play great against Cal, three and 5 Cal, one in 5 at the time, I believe, and almost lost, and yet that doesn't come up. It's like, if you're a group of 5, if you're power 5 team, you can have off weeks. If you're a group of 5 team, you have to be everybody 52 to three, or you don't get the benefit of the doubt. By the way, look, I don't want to be disparaging. I think Michigan states one of the best stories in college football right now, the other hands full of some really bad teams this year, right? Now, they beat Michigan. They were home. That's a really good win. But you look at, you know, you want to say putting away teams, I mean, hang on a second. I want to rattle a few off to you and you tell me, you know, if this is like, I feel like it's easy to kind of poke holes in a lot of the stuff that whoever the committee chair is the thing that stands out to me about Gary Barton. I thought this before was he will do this thing where he'll be like, we have great respect for this, and then he will take a dump on, whoever he's doing or whatever. It's like, he has great respect for these teams that get kind of snubbed. It feels like it's like, yeah, it's almost like yeah, he has the same great respect that Susie has for Larry on curb. You know, it's like, there's no you know, it's like you're kind of seeing, you know, you can say one thing, but your actions say another. So as we go through this, so Michigan state, again, they beat Miami soundly on the road, Miami is four and four. They have their hands full in Nebraska. They should have lost that game or could have lost that game. They won 23 20. They barely beat Indiana, by the way. Cincinnati beat them a lot worse. And they've just beat Michigan. It's not like they've been dominating teams either. Now their schedule is stronger because they're probably more mid level teams, but aside from Michigan, what are we given, you know, what are we saying in Michigan state who's undefeated, you know, their resume. It's at IU, they're really bad at Rutgers. They're pretty mediocre. Western Michigan, Nebraska, who they barely Miami. Isn't Miami. Their second best win? It is. A Miami's four and four. Yeah. If you're wondering why again, I don't want to do Miami is like their 5th or 6th best win. Look, I don't want to, you know, I'm not trying to disparage Michigan state, but to make this point, it's like the stuff that Gary barda speaking for the committee says and you know, it's weird. I mean, I watch this stuff. I don't have a dog in any of these fights. You know, I just want to see the best the best matchups I've certainly no connection to Cincinnati. How's this Cincinnati fan? I'd be so disgusted by the CFP. I don't even know if I'd watch this show anymore. Especially you know, and we like the guys on ESPN, but they like draw this thing out so long. And then you're kind of just scratching your head at this. It's just like, what next? It just feels and look, we know that we've been through this. The first committee rankings don't matter, particularly much. We get outraged by a lot of stuff. And I was like, I'm not going to get sucked into this, and then I'm watching this and I'm like, this sucks. You can't not get sucked. I think because the Cincinnati situation is so unique, and everybody's waiting to see how that. And I knew if they weren't in the top four, a lot of our sports writer friends were going to lose their shit to be perfectly honest, and they did. So I want to give people a window into something. David Robin from the athletic. He went to the mock playoff committee. I think you did that one, you're right. I did. I did it. I did a long time ago. I did it a long time ago too. He came back with something though that I wasn't familiar with. They basically handed them a list of the stats. These are analytic type stats that the committee basically and he wrote this in his article that when they're comparing two teams resumes, these particular stats pop up and he's like, it's really eye opening when you see them next to each other. So I'm not going to bore people with all of them, but just one example, relative scoring offense. So for example, if a team scores 35 points against a team, let's say, let's say, Cincinnati scores 35 points against a team that normally allows 28.0 points per game, it would have a 125% relative scoring offense. So our research guru Jason starret I showed him that thing and I said, can you calculate this? Can you come up with these rankings and he did? Michigan state and Cincinnati have almost identical numbers in this. So now neither of them are anywhere near Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, frankly, and these point differentials, you are differentials and whatnot. Michigan state Cincinnati, you're basically identical. And so I think it's simply a matter of the Michigan game just happened. If Cincinnati had beaten Notre-Dame this past weekend in Michigan state machine was in week two, they probably be reversed. Don't you think? Yeah, I do wonder how much recency bias and just like what was the last taste in your mouth. I thought about this a little bit over the weekend, you know, I mean, I am really, really impressed by Georgia. And I think they played the bowl game last year against Cincinnati, and Cincinnati did not look out. You know, like, again, it's a ball game, you know, it's not a it wasn't a playoff game. But that game was basically a toss up, right? And Cincinnati was playing without all American cornerback. You know, sauce gardener, they were playing without James Wiggins who's a big time player. And they're, you know, they're starting running back. And I wonder if they had won that game? Would the committee have would they give them inherently a little more about it? I think so. But I feel like those things do not happen in a vacuum at all. You know, it's like, as much as they say, it's like we're just evaluating it this year. It's like, you can't get the, you know, that feeling out of out of your mind. You know, it's like I think still people, even if you saw Oregon really handle Ohio State, I would say unless you're an Oregon fan, you know, 90% of the people out there think if they played ten times that right now, Ohio State we win 9 of them, at least. You know, and it's just like, so again, I think perception is a hard thing. And if I was a Cincinnati fan, like I said, I'd be disgusted and I'd be like, they're gonna screw us no matter what we do. We're gonna keep winning and they're gonna screw us. Well, all that being said, it's not, they're not out. It's not like there isn't a path for them to make it. Alabama and Georgia are going to play each other, we think. And you think if Alabama loses that game? Until Alabama loses and Georgia beats, you know, comes back to win in the fourth quarter. You really think a two loss Alabama is gonna drop out of the top four. I don't think so. Based on what we heard tonight know, I don't think so. I think there are 5 SEC west teams in the top 7. Leeches in the top 7..

"Just i guys one a one b at the same spot. Yeah i mean. We talked about the fourteen starters on both sides of the ball. Maybe even more than that and guys who it doesn't one will be the first player out there on the first nap of the game will technically be the starter. But they're they're both gonna play the same amount and play starter snaps because that's the competition. They've read in the depth that they've they've created their. So yeah these young guys their second teamers or or third teams that are hoping to be second teamers but they really have kind of a long way to go before their trusted to get on the field. That's what they're trying to do out there. Especially when you know. Fixing the coaches are grinding. The whole team thirty minutes. You're with me the beginning of july down in the basement. The dungeon of the lenders center for squat fast we marvelled at the size and the strength and the potential of this freshman class coming in for twenty twenty one. But it's funny. You look at those guys in the weight room and you marvel but then you get out onto the field and you. You're quickly reminded. They got a lot of stairs to climb on the ladder. Even though they passed the look test and they look better than freshman of ever looked that entered the cincinnati program. They still a lot of these guys have a long way to go before they cracked that one. A one b type situation. Yeah i mean. They're in shape and we saw those that squad for chance to get a look at some of those guys that weren't there for spring ball for most of them. But you're right. It's it's one thing to to look good in in cutoffs put weights in the in the weight room. It's another thing to get out there on the field and lineup and you saw. There's there's still some work to be done. Which is a credit to those the veterans the first team guys who were just really comfortable and have they've already gone through that process multiple times and kind of know where they're at and that's why. I'm sure we're gonna talk about it. There's a lot this pretty sure. Okay this is your show so you can determine that there's talk about it just just stupid. A team has to do to have a successful season. A lot of tough things. Beat indiana beat notre dame repeat conference championships. They're going to be good though. That's what everyone's like. It's a really good team. How high they take you know how good they are if they can be great if they can do those really tough things beat those really good opponents is another question but there is no doubt in my mind like this is a really really good football team especially defensively. Yeah i mean even today like just seeing them get back out there and like when they first did their when they first got together. Eleven on eleven like when they first had team on the field. And you look and you you. You know we're we're both jotting down are what the starting unit looks like. And it's like oh man like it's that reminder of these guys are all backing right outside of wiggins and in forest the band is back together but that's another thing you would because we talk about the offensive line they gotta replace these two offensive tackles. That's the story line or talking about shoreline. We have not talked about safety. And they lose all american and james wiggins who what was drafted fifth or sixth round. They lose an underrated. But you know the the nfl him heartbeat of the defense and derek forest. Who goes in the fourth or fifth round deanna. Thank you so they lose to. Nfl draft picks that safety probably the best safety. Do they've ever had there and it's not. It's not concerned. It's nobody's we talked about this. Last night dave surmounted. I on the on the bbc j. Podcasts like that that's they've never been in a position of like this and the program ever before where in years past and we saw it happen from the to the one thousand nine mike dangelo smith and mike. Mickens were the best corner. Duo in program history And when they left corner was a problem. Right problem it for the team and i. I think brian cook is gonna be a breakout breakout name. I mean you could argue. He was the best defensive player on the field in the peachable. Yeah and he didn't start all you know. He started like. I made that argument that he was him. Beavers was right there then another guy. That's back like everybody's talking about my and sauce. Obviously mogae sanders. Gardner gardner didn't play in that game. And there were guys that stepped up and made a lot of players on bush bush. He's a coroner who moved outside and had another great game. He's an outside corner. That's been playing the slot because ahmad gardner and kobe bryant. Right won't let him on the field for the outside spot and he's so good that they're like well. I guess you're just playing slot. Yeah cuckoo's great. John hicks as a sophomore was an all conference player. When wiggins was out on conference in interceptions had to sit the bench last year. James wiggins is healthy. Sorry sorry yeah. Congratulations on your breakout season. But we'll see you in two years. Those those are the guys that we we made this joke last year. Where would their backup. Defense rank in the american athletic conference like maybe not second best in the conference. We probably heard they were probably not better than tulsa right. Although when we saw zaven collins here he had one more tackle than us right. I'm just saying. I'm just saying he had one more tackling us but yeah they're probably third and that's because cook and hicks and you still got a second team linebacker you. Let's take a break. I want to get into a break when we come back justin. I will continue. That looks like a bud. Light like aluminum bottle. You realize that we're on and it doesn't attaran. Doesn't it look like one of the new like aluminum bottles. When it's been well documented on this. Show that i haven't had a beer in two and a half months. I'm just guest. So i looked over and i was like dang bro craig. I know after nine afternoon. We're at how you got to get to bed early because you gotta be back to higher ground tomorrow. Morning can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning more after this.

"So i think he can kinda slide in there with these talented pass rushers. They haven't chandler jones. They obviously signed. Jj watt to kind of come over. They start zack. Allen like i do more of a nose technique but i like the addition there at that juncture of the draft. I honestly don't have much on gallon. Manet but james wiggins is somebody that a lot of people in the draft community spoke really really highly of. I didn't get around too much. Cincinnati defensive tape. But from what i saw he was a fast good athlete. Who had range. Who can monitor the center fielder. He also who two hundred and ten pounds packs a punch and can drop down into the box. And that's kind of somebody who you can really use very versatile manner so i liked that addition there in the seventh round of james wiggins overall. I'd say this is an okay draft. But they probably didn't come away with their number one target at each of the their positions which not everybody ends up doing that. However there were other players at the positions like wide receiver and linebacker and even quarterback where i think there were people that are higher on my specific board that went around that area so it doesn't seem like they may have gotten the most out of this draft but time will tell and i think it's a solid rapid. Nothing overly spectacular. Let's move on to the los angeles rams and look the rams they never have a first round pick. It seems are always trading and making moves less need loves to deal for trump picks and bringing guys look jalen ramsey bringing individuals brandin cooks from the in the past guys who are established that ins and don't really need that development that takes quite a while the second round. Oh man look last year. The van jefferson in the second round last year. Kick out of florida really really talented. Route runner went down to the senior bowl. And lot of people are talking about him. And they had cooper kupp on the roster. They have robert woods. They had josh reynolds but he ended up going to the tennessee. Titans now they bring into shaw jackson and then with their first pick on a team. That just is hurting along the offensive line. were andrew. Whitworth is maybe their best alignment and he's basically the age of methuselah at this point they select another wide receiver and go with tutu atwell but not just a wide receiver a sub five foot ten a hundred and fifty pound wide receiver and some people said one hundred and forty six pounds. At some point. Everyone talks about the size of devante smith but tutu atwell who is explosive. Who has top speed. That is really really eye-popping quick-footed who is a good downfield threat because of how we can stretch the field vertically but man he is small. This is somebody you need to get in your weight room. He needs to eats some. Pb and j. bro. Because he is a tiny guide and the rams went and they selected him in the second round with their first pick and only thing that says to me other than the fact that i know less need loves playmakers logs is they look at matt stafford's ability to push the ball vertically and they are like wow. This is a lot different. Jared goff let stress the defense of all these other. nfc west opponents and let's attack vertically allow those technicians underneath kubrick cop and robber would route technicians to just manipulate coverages. Get opened in one on one situations and you know what if coverage breaks down. You're going to have to to well and one of the most explosive players in the nfl. Flying down the field now. Is this a luxury pick. I don't wanna go that far. Even though i to look like they're picking in the second round here there still often of lyman. That are available that they couldn't necessarily go with and could possibly if not start in year. One definitely help. Replenish the farm system of the los angeles rams off line because i mean to to atwell was picked. Twenty fifth pick at fifty seven overall in the draft and right before terrence marshall who's a bigger type wide receiver. So they wanted more speed type of guy that you still had create humphrey in the board. You still had josh meyers on the board. The ohio state. Senator and create humphries center from oklahoma. You still had some really really solid here. Who could come in and compete and possibly win. Jobs jalen mayfield. Who's a developmental offense lineman from michigan. I mean brady christiansen. The often tackle from byu. I guess you can say. They made the strength stronger adding a wide receiver. They're allocating some more priority. Picks to their offensive line. May help matt stafford more. Because i got so used to running for his life with the lyons. I'm not sure if they wanted to be doing that now that he is on the rams so it's going to be interesting to see how sean mcvay us. I'm sure he has a really really saad plan to do so. Let's see if it's actually effective and let's see if that will hold up against some of these. Nfl hits being some one hundred and sixty pounds which is incredibly small and in the third round with ernest jones the linebacker out of south carolina and then in the fourth round they had two picks on bobby brown the third texas a an md. The tackle robert rochelle central arkansas quarterback in they actually another fourth-round picks three fourth round picks jacob harris ucf wide receiver in the fifth ernest brown northwestern defensive end an had three seventh round picks jake funk maryland running back ben sclerotic notre dame wide receiver and chris. Garrett concordia saint paul outside linebacker so ernest jones. Somebody who is good effort type of player. Come down hill. He executes his run fits well sorta reminded me of a little bit of a better version of tj brunson from everything that i saw and the rams needed some help at the linebacker position because they end up bringing back leonard. Floyd that's more of a edge type of player but then on the inside was playing behind aaron donald. They had the fifth round pick out of virginia. Mike parsons back. In two thousand eighteen troy reader who they got in two thousand nineteen justin holland's kenny young but nobody who actually seizing this job and i think ernest jones can step in and possibly upgrade over mike. Kaiser thing about jones's he's not overly athletic. He's from what i've seen of south carolina's defense. He's good at his own coverage really really aggressive coming downhill. They guy alluded to man coverage may not be his bread and butter. But i think at the third round you needed to target that position. That's not a terrible edition. So i'm not going to sit there and knock it bobby brown who they ended up getting the fourth round is just a really really solid size length. Speed up field bursts type of guy. So i think he's just has a lot of different things working for him coming from texas and program remember. They had just a matter bouquet. Who ended up going to the ravens. I think it was in twenty twenty might have been two thousand nineteen but he reminds me some bobby brown minds me a little matter bouquet or maybe a little bit stronger at the point of attack a little bit bigger matter bouquets. A little bit more today. Quick lateral agility type of player brown. He's somebody who can possibly rush the passer on in passing situations despite the fact that he's three hundred and twenty pounds and he's good in one on one situations as a run defender taking on double teams is something that he can develop. Maybe he's an anchor down just a little bit more but you add him next to aaron donald and he can use his lateral quickness to and is just sheer size to to take advantage of one match which is going to see plenty of playing next to eric. Donald robert rochelle incredible athlete. Coming from a really small program in central. Arkansas went down as senior bowl talking about who is going to be a second round pick and he didn't practice all that much. The senior books ended up getting her every time he was out there. He was just getting toasted but he has long arms. He's a really really good athlete. Just needs to be a little bit more disciplined and he needs to handle speed better because he was at the senior bowl just a short half a practice that ended up doing. He was really struggling with those speedy receivers because he hadn't seen that yet because he played at central arkansas. So i think this is just a high developmental. Pick who gets to learn behind jalen ramsey similar to brown learn behind aaron donald and the rest of the draft is nothing necessarily to write home. About in my estimation. I mean the rams really really rely on hitting on these dates picks these fourth fifth seventh round picks six round but they didn't have any picks in the six round in this really really do because they don't rely on those first round picks have no issue similar to the seattle seahawks trading..

"Then, uh, nice. I've been trying to do that. That's right. Goodbye. Goodbye. This movie dead Come on him. And I would say the rest is like you know the scheme and the coach is there and you know, uh, the culture's been able to get to him in and teach him and The way that resonates with him. Uh, But, you know, he's got to put in the work. You've got a black not only his film, you gotta watch these other quarterbacks, but you got some great examples of great quarterbacks right now. Four quarterbacks better, uh, in the championship. Come on. Now. You got a great quarterback. You've got a young quarterback Josh Island. Uh, you got past my home, but we don't know if he's gonna be playing tonight. And you got you got Brady, your boy. Oh, come on, man. We got team C couple TV there. Rodders. Yeah, runs a man and You know, look at those guys. And they all have some things in common. Although their game is the games are totally different, but they have things that they do. Well, they don't They don't get back there and take sacks. They don't throw into coverage. You know, they do a good job of when they get pressure to behave. You just thought in the ground you get. You know, Thor thought out of pounds. They're not going to take A bunch of hits. And you know he's got a loan from that, you know, and That's the thing in the NFL. If you don't learn from that, from from not only your experiences, but other great players, it, man. It's not gonna be. It's not gonna be a long career, man. You're gonna be sitting on the you know, on on the couch watching somebody else play. If you can, if you can't get better, each and every year, So that's why I say it's on him because You know, then the day He's the one out there. Making the calls making the throws, you know, scrambling, deciding if he's going to step into the pocket, or, you know, trying to outrun it from the backside, you know, and deciding if he's gonna try to squeeze it in there. Before people are gonna throw it out of bounds. You know, he's the one making those decisions at the end of the day. So, um, And you're you know, I think he could do it. Really do it. Hey, we'll wait. Feeling that I don't know well, much like a wide receiver coming over the middle against the Denver Broncos and the early to mid to late nineties, fearing For their lives that were Ryan Edwards has been sweating all day because he said he sent over a name of somebody He really liked on tape. And before the show, he won't admit it to you. But he was saying how much he was afraid that Steve was going to verbally murder him for for this player that may or may not be good. I don't know. So Ryan sent over a player. What did you think of that particular player, Steve? Well, uh, early on the guy name is Richie Grant. Um You know? Start the film from the beginning, and you know that women is this guy? Just a guy talking about Uh, listen, tackles, you know, guys running up, you know, he's covering guys. And you know, they're running full speed. These last let it you know, waiting on the, uh, something enforce the most of the time. You guys were running intermediate routes are, you know sort of rock so we didn't get burned. But yeah, he's a good player. Do you think he could be a player who's gonna develop? He's not the first rounder I no, no, no, no, no, no, I'm not. I'm not saying that just much like Steve Atwater, you know, ended Christian Korea's Career. You know, Steve at work comes back and ends Ryan scouting career just just within the jarring hit. Dude. Yeah, I'm so deflated right now. Uh, no, no, he has some skills. He moves well, once he gets going, But sometimes he's a little bit flatfooted, and I don't like that, and he's waiting on guys T o to make their move. You've got to be ready for the guys who runs past him, and that's happened a couple times, but he just reporting it didn't didn't throw the ball to the guy. But, um Yeah. I was surprised you sent that over when I saw something earlier. You know, But as it went on, you started making plays Makesem Isis. He's fearless guys really tackling right, But that's one of the things that jumped out at me is he's kind of a play maker guy, but I know that look, there's certainly and I even told you what I sent the thing I said there's some raw stuff in there and I don't think he's a completed guy by any stretch, and definitely not a first rounder. Think he'd go day two. There's possibility slips today three. But I think he's more of a day to guy. There's another safety. I want you to look at when you get chance. James Wiggins of Cincinnati Another safety that I really like. That's gonna be out Senior Bowl, But these are just these aren't even the top two safeties in this draft. It Z insanely deep safety class. But if the Broncos up to wait until late day two or early day three To get a safety will probably take a look at it. Yeah, but this is kind of in the range of like Michael. Jim Moody I told you about last year. You know, I was telling you about him at the senior boys like, Look, this isn't a dude you're drafting in the first round..

"You won't stick around for that three all 3713 85 85 star phone number 56690 These are text line. So, yes, Richard Grant one of my favorite prospects. Let's get into a little senior bowl conversations. I'm getting pretty antsy about this. I've been studying these prospects getting excited about next week. I want to get too far ahead because we have a whole week down in mobile next week to talk about these guys. But I love the safeties like l O v e love the safeties in this this group down their mobile and and in general in this draft, and this is a great draft for the Broncos to pick a safety. They absolutely have to pick a safety whether or not you have a lover, so you decided to pick up Karim Jackson's option. Well, that's an obvious one. But then I I'd say still pick up. The option is I was just talking to Steve off off the air a minute ago, and we're sort of talking about their planet safety and I would Obviously signed Justine Simons to an extension. I would keep cream Jackson one more year. And I would draft at least one it. Maybe even two safeties. Like one day to guy and then I draft. Ah or I'd bring in an undrafted player, you know, because they have hit on some of those secondary players, but My goodness Been you said it coming in the last year. We said it all during the year that, like knock on wood, as long as they can stay healthy with those top two safeties. They should be fine. They kind of dodged a bullet a little bit that both those guys played all year. Yeah, it could have been. It could have been rough. Disastrous. I mean, get will be in the year there because they need to him almost to be that heavy nickel on that. You know, they couldn't really make him a safety. I don't know if they're gonna bring will back or not. We'll see. Um, I think you'll let him play the market and go from there, But, yeah, they've got to get some death. Um, you know if I think they're gonna bring Justin back, but if if Something goes sideways there. You got a problem. You know you got cream Jackson. What? 33 years old and you have perilously little death in there? You know, PJ lock they moved. Elijah. Hold it back there. But watching him play corner. This year was an abject disaster on Ben. You know you what? Trey Marshall. I mean, just just there's nobody back there. That's a starting caliber safety in the NFL Insider Kareem and so You're gonna have to figure that out, and hopefully they'll send a contingent down looking for these guys here. It's suitable. Anybody jumps out at you, particularly or yes, well, I mean, and it's interesting because I was just talking to Steve about this. By the way. Hi, Torrey could do hear from you. I got a few other text will get two on the text line. 56 16 0. There's actually quite a few safety's The guys that are out there. They're gonna be out Senior Bowl. There's a couple of top five guys better in that conversation. But the true elite guys like the teeth, the TCU guys like those two guys are probably to go. You're late first round in the second round of theirs. There's so much talent of safety in this draft, but a couple of guys to jump out to me, All right, so I mentioned I mentioned one There was Steve. Obviously, I like Richie Grant a lot from UCF. And what again what jumps out. He had 10 interceptions and six forced fumbles over the last three years. 10 picks six forced fumbles over the last three years. Okay, The dude's a playmaker you He's 100% right about the fly foot thing, but in my opinion, like some of that stuff can be coached out like I think that you know, he is one of those dudes that sees a fearless playmaker. He as you mentioned. He's an enforcer like you're You know, he's a tone setter. Honestly, when you're thinking about Karine Jackson and what he brings to this team, that's one of the things he's a total setting kind of guy. And you're gonna need player make playmakers like that. On this team when Crane Jackson's gone So I like a nice saying all the safeties that air in this class or even all the safety is now the MO on mobile or that kind of player, But that's one of the things that I loved about Richie Grant. He also has good size things like 61. And he's got good speed is obviously you know, we talked about like, click and clothes and all that stuff. I mean, he He's one of those dudes that he reads a reacts quick. And so, you know, maybe he lets guys get into him a little bit too much. And and as C mentioned gets caught flat footed one, So while it seems like you need to warm up a hair like he like he doesn't quite started fast as you maybe want, but otherwise I just really like him. I mentioned James Wiggins is another guy's gonna be a day to prospect out of Cincinnati, another nose for the football guys. He has four interceptions. And the pick six Against S M u four interceptions and 2018 Pick six against Essam. You That was beautiful. Another do that Just Just flies after the ball. There's always take the best angles, though. That's another thing that like some of these guys you notice like they almost there, just so excited and have such high motor of like heat seeking missiles that they don't always, you know. Take the best angle and something's amiss. Yeah, that that happens. Yeah, but their developmental for that reason Carrie Vincent Jr. Another guy I kind of like that. L s u Looking forward that Hamza Nazir looting. From F S U. This guy, so he's 64. And so you're talking about guys that Just look like physical freaks out there that have length speed. Agility. I mean, he's kind of got it all. But he tore his a C L 20 and late in 2019 and didn't really get to do much in 2020. So he's gonna have to clear some physicals to whether or not but wouldn't we saw him? He looked right. He can cover you know, even cover next receiver even cover a tight end. Because he's 64 and 101 tackles in 2019 1 sack, three forced fumble, two interceptions and a pick six. He's just a very, very like I don't know. He just He just makes plays all over the field. So they're just like there's certain guys in this safety group that like I wasn't as impressed with the cornerbacks. Yeah, The cornerbacks didn't jump out at me, Is it? The great corners tend to leave before they get to be seniors. That's more to the thing When you get these corners and receivers that senior bowl the great ones if those positions tend to leave early, it's just one of those things that tends to happen. And so quarterbacks wide receivers corners. You tend to get kind of second tier type guys day to type guys, the position. A top of the mark and go from there. It's senior boy. You tend not to get the elite in the best of the best. If these events like that they don't need to. They're gonna be drafted. Hi. It's premium position. That's just how it goes. One corner. I really liked the most breeze a slot corner. It's not a bad thing because Vic Fangio likes slot corners. Is Elijah Molten? Yeah. Cornerback at a Washington. Yeah, Yeah, He's another dude in 2019 4 interceptions..

"The extra point is up and it is good. So this game is all tied 77. 29 seconds to go on the first of five play, drive to score and tie it. Remember this a lot like Cincinnati scoring drive short field position coming off of a punt or Cincinnati was backed up here that put the Bulldogs and favorable field position. They capitalize with a couple of big plays on that drive. Daniel's eight out of 11 149 yards. Also an interception, but now a touchdown strike to George Pickens. Five catches, two touchdowns against number 25, Missouri. Enable a dance a bit in the end zone and celebration for Georgia, and we talked so much about some of the absences for George on defense that last play. You also saw the effect of a big absence for Cincinnati on defense. James Wiggins, one of their star safeties. Out of this game because of injury. And so Brian Cook falling down on the back end of that play instead of being able to come up and make a big hit that maybe James Wiggins is able to and stop short. So nice answer there. For the Bulldogs. Get on the scoreboard here against Luke, Fickle and Cincinnati. Now to kickoff is going to go sailing on out of the end zone right through the back of the end zone and the bear Cats will look to answer now themselves behind Desmond Ritter. Better by the way, also Cincinnati's number to Russia. The quarterback leads the team in rushing touchdowns by a wide margin with 12. We haven't seen quite so much of that in the early going, but very early. No, it's been a lot of the design passing game for them early on, and so now you're out of the shadow of your own end zone. You gets operate from your own, 25 expect to see the more normal Cincinnati offense. Moving left to right..

"W who shell back to throw his past, bottled up in the air and intercepted the bear cats pick it off. My gardener comes down with the ball and the bear Cats had their first check takeaway of the game as sauce. Gardner has his third interception of the year. And Hoard the SM You gained the third interception of the season by Cincinnati Corner Ahmad Gardner and what's become a rarity, an opposing team throwing toward the sophomore quarterback. This week, he was named an Associated Press second team All American here on the same honor as his teammate. James Wiggins. Welcome back to Mercedes Benz Stadium. We are getting set for the Peach Bowl coming up at the top of the hour. It is obviously been a phenomenal season for Cincinnati's defense, anchored by its secondary and a big reason why the U. C D has been so good this season. Has been the play of the man they call sauce. Ahmad Gardener who, by the Way, was also named first Team All American by the Football Writers Association of America as well as U. S A. Today I talked with him on this week about what those postseason honors mean meant a lot in the That's not something like that I was like looking into. But when people brought it to my attention, you know that was really something that I was like Blessed to receive and everything. I think one of the really cool part about you being named. All American is you were joined on the team by your teammate your barricade teammate James Wiggins, who went from not playing at all last year to being named in a P. All Americans, So give us an idea of what you gained from playing with James. You didn't get by Not playing with James last year helped a lot having a veteran safety. Who would you like? Show me the ropes like, hang in there with me and everything, you know, Make sure that I get my I Q of and be able to grow fast as a cornerback. So yeah, that was great being able to play with him this year. I remember talking with Kobe Bryant early last season about you, and he had kind of taken you under his wing and look, he he gets He gets a lot of balls thrown in his direction because teams don't want to challenge you. And I want to ask you about that. But give me an idea of what you've learned from playing with Kobe Bryant. Um I learned a lot from my life how to be a leader, you know? Coming in, Like very young. I learned how to like. That all you on Lee joining the seniors, Those aren't the only people that can lead a team like cornerback can lead and president consulting work can also like I just learned how to be like a leader like that's the main road that he liked taught me. Keep my composure through everything and just lean everyone, no matter what position they play. Word travels fast in college football amount last year teams Darraji they challenge Do they threw your way this year? That's not happening. There will be long stretches in games where the ball doesn't come your way. Doesn't become a challenge to stay focused to stay engaged when More often than not the policy and coming in your direction. There's not a challenge as much, but I'll take that as a former respect, you know, Quarterback like I'm not a secret anymore. So you know, they know about me. So you know the consequences that that's in play like if they thought of my size, so Did you have to stay focused every time like because, you know, I never know when the ball is gonna end up getting going my way. I know you'll talk some trash Do you ever say to the other team's quarterback walking back? Dude, throw the ball my way once. Yeah, talking a little smack sometimes, but You know, I just play. I just got there and play football at the end of the day sophomore quarterback Mark Gardner with us in the pregame show this week. You have a pretty remarkable streak. We're one game away from completing your second full season and yet No team has beaten you for a touchdown. You haven't given up a touchdown and coverage. It goes without saying no, DB wants to give up a score. But is that streak in the back of your head providing maybe a little bit extra motivation. Most definitely, I can't. I just can't get lax. You know that's something I problem myself. I take that very personally, They know that's given up points and that's something that I most definitely do not want to do. I think one of the differences between last year's team in this year's team is Ahmad that Cincinnati is better offensively on the outside, They're better in deeper at wide receiver. There's more things that you seek, unduly offensively, you practice against these guys every single day. So how have these guys on the other side of the football major better? Yeah, I brought it round and it brought the best out of me. Like every single day of practice and captain everything. And like every receiver, I go, I go against whether if opponent like actually team or my teammates. I'm gonna bring the best out of them. You know what I'm saying? So that really helped me and I'm sure I helped the receiver girl off. Obviously you've been recognized as an AP All American, But you're also getting talked about a lot in the NFL draft community and you're not even eligible for the draft until 2022. I know you follow people on Twitter. I know you read a lot. I'm sure a lot of people are in your ear that are talking about us. An early round draft choice already in the 2022 draft. Are you paying attention to any of that? My feet on my timeline. You know, people tag me in it sometimes, but I'm just I'm just in the moment right now. You know what I'm saying? Like I'm just playing ball. But I know that opportunity is gonna come and I'm gonna make the best of it and make the most out of it. Last year, you had to pick six against UCF. I talked to you the following week for the pregame show. I called you by your given name and you said, Call me sauce. That's been your nickname Since you were six years old. It is grown. Everybody calls you sauce. What has it been like to watch the nickname Take off watching the nickname Growth. Just like back home. The only people that Carver that is like my family members like all my friends, my boys. They called the sauce sometimes. So, yeah, it's been real fun Sauce. Gardner, the sophomore cornerback from Detroit, Michigan, named an all American by four different Publications. We are less than 22 minutes away from kickoff. It's Cincinnati and Georgia in the Peach Bowl. When we return Daniel chat with Bear cats head coach Luke Fickell, you're listening to you See football presented by Ukraine on 700 wlw. Frickin handle, clean restoration.

"Well, I mean, that's all we do in this city chick we hope, but I'm just telling you the bear cats to me. They deserve to be And if our five conference and when some of the power five conference television contracts are up in a few years I think they ought to take that They ought to take a good long look at Cincinnati and what they have done under Luke Sickle because he's not going anywhere. I was nervous last year when he Michigan State was rumored to maybe Be the ones so Lord Hamilton, Cincinnati, and I didn't even sweat that much. Then I'm sure a second not sweaty now, because I think he's staying in Cincinnati. He's built something special here, and he's not the kind of guy that jumps at something. Quote on quote bigger and brighter and something that may be more money. He's not that kind of guy. He doesn't have that kind of ego. Brian Kelly. How don't mean a passion because he was a tremendous coach here as well. But I'm telling you Cincinnati can benefit themselves so much tomorrow with the win over Georgia. Is it going to be easy melt the key to meet ship? They have to run the football running running the football. Look, It's the safest way to get yours because, as Woody Hayes coach in Ohio State, had said, When you throw the football, too, of the three outcomes or negative, it's incomplete, intercepting on the football, Okay, what that does what that's gonna do. It's gonna force Georgia to load the box 8 to 10 guys, then you can take shots down the field. Running the football for its heart. It is, yes. What if you're able to establish it with your jokes with Desmond Ritter? If you're able to spread the field with regards to a credibility, guess what? That's gonna open up the past game And in that past game, it's John Wiley. It's Michael Young Junior. It's change. Sean Jackson. There were so many weapons. It's even Jared doped out of the backfield. Renner Taylor Local brought up from Springfield came on late in the season. It's Alex Pearson a great game in the 80 chimp like Pierce. Awesome. Yes, yes, yeah, yeah, he wasn't ducking smoke in the championship. Contrary to who was that salsa corner back Alley Green the fourth yet. Excuse me, but Alex here's smoking mirrors. He smoked him on several rounds. So take that alley green the fourth and oh, by the way, it's also lost. They're just going to stick that to them well, and I'm hoping that Jae Hee Janu ALS, the quarterback of the Georgia Bulldogs gets to meet Ahmed Gardner and James Wiggins. Sauce sauce. Gardner, a couple of second team all Americans, Yes, and not only that shit, but think about the defense of one you think about the death was on the defensive line. Curtis Books Elijah Ponder Hometown Kid from Atlanta, Georgia. You think about your bars? Taylor, My Jay Sanders. Look, pickles and my standards. Complaint 15 years in the National Football League 15 years in the National Football League. That's how good he is. Maybe he'll even do a thriller dance tomorrow. If the sex JT Daniel's even Tuckey, MMA League van, and then you go to the linebackers for well White South high school product. And look at the season. He's had 74 tackles on the season gold. The Blanco contribute Darien Beavers, and that's secondary pool. That's secondary. James Wiggins, We forget about James Whitney. Because of what I am not a gardener and Kobe Bryant have done James Wiggins to the first team all American chicks vernal last year. Yeah, I didn't realize you were this prepared. This is un believe you got me ready to jump on the sideline and dunk the basketball. How cool is that on the sidelines? Man? I think it's fantastic this team and that's nothing to chick. This team has fun. It's been that way. The last Two years, 2017 You saw Luke Fickell planted seeds of what? This program one of the prosper to beat And not only did they quickly do that in 2018, but they're having fun. Slam dunking basketballs on the sidelines are jumping up and down the sidelines during kickoff in third down, You're seen Marcus Freeman. Heck, in normal, you're always had squat best in the off season. My man. Justin Williams had a great article about that in the athletic last year. SWAT vest who that sounded fun I wanted to have been There could be a part of that. This you see football team, they have fun. With winning and you know what shit. They have a chip on their shoulder. This is the point. I made this even I don't think we realized how much Losing back to back games in the second, the same team at the same venue. Motivated that team last year, the lost in Memphis twice at the end of the regular season, the conference championship game. I don't think we realized how much that body that did that and if you didn't see it in the ball game You show us that you've seen in this regular season the way they playing assess them. You Memphis to Rome, Fourth shot out of a cannon on that late touchdown run. There was 42 10. They used to do that. But guess what ship with you See football team, They play 16 minutes whether they're up 39, or whether they're down whatever which by the way, when the last time they trailed in game this season can't remember. Can't remember. Alex. Frank, You got me ready to run through a wall with snot bubbles, brother. This is great stuff. Wow. We've got a UC pep rally till nine o'clock. We're taking your calls. Alex Frank. Happy New year and go Bear cats. Happy New Year to you Don't bear cats shift..

I love I just love this team. I mean, I love Where they've come from since tickles a bit there. I mean, I don't know. It's just it's hard. I mean, I just Don't know many of them personally, but I feel like I dono I call my joke and say I'm like a team Mom, even though you know, Um, but I just I don't know. I just love them all. I wish them all the best. I'm rooting for them tomorrow. Uh, another. They're like a family. I mean, they just seem like a really tight unit. You're absolutely right. And what it would mean for the team. The players, the parents, that coach is this The university and the city. You got to come up with a victory over a Southeastern Conference power in Georgia. Wow. Yes, that would be huge. I mean, he's for the program and just, you know, a huge win for the kids on before all of us that are playing. I just I think we're headed in the right direction. Uh, I'm just so excited for them. So excited to see how they come out tomorrow. And you know how they adjust, you know to Georgia, so I'm excited. I think I don't know. I don't know what Georgia thinks of us, but I think we're going to surprise them. I totally agree and Would love to see the bear cast come out with a win, No doubt and, gosh, we remember the pike. Tobin's against Pittsburgh will never forget that to send him into a BCS bowl. You know, in the sugar against Florida, but Brian Kelly had announced that he was leaving going to Notre Dame, and it was a tough, tough game down there for you know, the bear cats. Wow. What a win would mean for this university tomorrow. Wow, there could be here And just when there's somebody young guys on that team. I think we're recruiting Really Well, I mean, I think that would even just AMP. Up recruiting even more. So he's recruiting a lot of local kids, which I love. I love that. I got all excited. I was listening to, uh, Tim Mace podcast from the Columbus Dispatch and listening to Doug Donley. You know, former Ohio State and Dallas Cowboys still living down in that area. His son Drew is a wide receiver. He's committed to you see? Through done through Donnelly. So I'm all excited about him. Six to about 100, 7580 Pounder, but just Ah baller so, man can't wait for Drew. Don Lee to get up here. He could learn some tips from Alex Pierce. Oh, no kidding. It was Pierce unbelievable that that title game. Yeah, I hope he's 100% healthy, so I know he was heard earlier, but I think he's back. He's been looking good, beautiful and you've got a couple of second team all Americans in James Wiggins. And Ahmed Sauce gardener. I know I love that kid. Just like the greatest nickname sauce.
