"With what he's done this season. 100% he has. I mean, there was just there really wasn't the opportunity to bring him in. At the time, because like we said, it was in the midst of qualifying. And there was plenty of calls from to come in for the last few games, but it didn't happen. I know the door is firmly open. Staying in Scotland, James sands. Didn't really play as regularly for rangers. The thing he offers if you include him in the squad is the versatility of also going into defensive midfield. Right. But he needs game time. That lawn move really didn't work out. Mark McKenzie, who it felt like in the beginning of qualifying was a player that they were going to give a chance to, and then when those chances came, it didn't really seem like he grasped that opportunity and subsequently felt like it feels to me like he's been passed by others. Now JJ, we get to two names that are really interesting. The first one, you're going to roll your eyes, but I'm going to keep I'm going to throw it in there. Tim ream, old faithful, started every single game for fully rolling my eyes. I don't know. That's just bear halt or loves him. He's going to be back in the Premier League. Started every game this year. He's just reliable. And you just wonder, we've talked so much for whatever we think of this U.S. team. One of the things that we worry about is the inexperience. He's 34. He brings veteran a veteran presence and leadership to that room, which at a World Cup is something that they might value. So that's one to keep an eye on. And then finally, the John Brooks conundrum. He's 29, he's going to leave Wolfsburg after what was a rough year. I have zero, zero idea how this plays out. What they think of him, I respect the things that I've heard coming from Brooks that he's kind of instead of having a defeatist attitude about how this has gone. He's almost taken it as a challenge. He clearly wants to be a part of this team. But I don't know. It doesn't feel like bear halter values him. That could be based on his form from this season and bear halter just feeling the urgency of not being able to kind of have a guy find his form on their watch. It was too important for that. Do that on Wolfsburg's watch. I don't know. I don't know. But his name is going to be the one that is probably debated more than any other name over the next several months. I think so, and we're going to really find out what the manager actually thinks of him. Because he's got to he's either got to stick our twist. Is he going to bring him back in? Is he going to leave him in exile? We'll see. Leave him in exile. We'll see where he goes too. But it's just a shame because it felt and look, I had said at one of our last podcasts at the end of the qualification for the U.S. that for however much I was enjoying the Zimmerman Robinson partnership. There were going to be questions for two MLS defenders who their experience has been MLS and cocktail. And then getting thrown into a World Cup is going to be a big leap for them. So there were questions to be asked, but I felt like we had become pretty comfortable with that pairing. That it felt like, okay, it wasn't a question on the team sheet. We kind of knew going into each game what it was, and those two guys were going to have a lot of experience playing alongside each other before that World Cup rolled around. And that unfortunately has been wiped away with just another, just a tough, just a tough blow, man. Just it's unfortunate and perhaps more unfortunately, my prediction is not necessarily torn Achilles, but I don't believe that this will be the last injury that in some way affects the team that Greg bear halt is going to bring to this time. All right, okay, I want to bring this segment to an end just based on the sheer depression. There will be prepared for the worst. All right? There will be more injuries. People know that. Let's just, let's just hope they're minor and not as catastrophic as this one. Okay, they're Nostradamus. Well, all the best to miles Robinson, you know, World Cup or not, get better, man, because we love watching you play. He's seems like a good dude. Syracuse guy, as well as I've mentioned many times before. And we hope you get well soon. He looked like he was in good spirits after his surgery. I know this is a tough blow for him, but he's still young enough and he's got many, many games and many years ahead in his soccer life. So all the best man. Let's go ahead, JJ. We'll take one more break. We'll finish up on the other side with a couple other smaller news and notes and then we'll get out of here for the day and get you ready for a big FA Cup final. All right, how does that sound? That sounds perfect. All right, don't go anywhere. Oh, back again. One.

"Look, it's not the fee that people were trying to push for the 20 million that ended up going for a quarter of peppy. If there was an offer of 20 million last year, I think they would have accepted it, so I think that that was more silly season than anything true. So 9.5 million is a very good deal. 9.5 plus and 20% sound is a very good deal. Again, we need to change our expectations just because of the numbers that were being floated and against some of the questionable reporting that kind of came out last year of this. This never happened, and even he's interviewed him he was like, yeah, like, look, some things were true, but he's like, dude, most of it was not true. And he's like, it was fun to kind of experience that for the first time and be able to just keep on playing and seeing that it really didn't affect me, but it was just kind of funny to read and see on Twitter. Big off season for Orlando, by the way now. Gone. Daryl DK gone, Chris Mueller, gone, going to Scotland. A lot of rumors around Orlando right now, not anything concrete. Just yeah, any final thoughts on DK and who have so much news like normally we would spend 40 minutes here. Anybody want to wrap this one up? Because we still got James sands. We got a bunch of other questions for Tom. Then we have the entirety of the rest of the news, which includes three new head coaches and new ownership group in like 50 free agent signings. 5, four, three, two, one, nobody's got a final thought on their DK four one two zero 6 zero Los soccer dot com. Can I be a little bit disappointed in an 18 month loan for James sands or rangers? Tom, just a tad? Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I understand that. But kind of the people I've spoken to is that the idea is James sands will be more valuable in 6 months after playing at rangers or somewhere else in Europe when before this deal was kind of settled, that he is right now. They believe they truly believe that clubs won't recognize or fully appreciate everything that he brings and gives to a team without having him in their building. I've heard kind of similar thoughts and a similar theory when it comes to col Bassett with the Colorado rabbits as well. So it is worth mentioning that, but I get it, I understand that 18 month loan might sound I guess questionable for someone that James sands has proven so much in MS he's proven so much for the national not so much of the national limit. He's got U.S. national team experience he's got 65 appearances with NY CFC. He's as steady as they come. He's one of the young players that you don't really worry about adaptability or anything. So it is a little odd I guess that it's a loan and such a long loan, but again, they think that this is gonna pay off by way of value and hey, worst case first comes back and they'll have you that too. Isn't part of it for a team buying him what position are you buying him to play in? Yeah. Good. No, and I think there's quality to being adaptable, but it also then, what's your high upside for a team? And so I think having him in a system where they see him, is he a center made his ears third center back. You'd hope he doesn't play right back. But I think that that's where you could understand a little bit of like, people are insured maybe his upside at one position, and NYC then isn't getting the numbers that they expect for it..

"I really feel that what he should do is line up the team. Get about four to two two. He really should line up the team two two two two two or even 111-111-1111. You should just like F with everybody. You know, I'm open to all ideas in the inbox. If there's united fans in the chat, just tell us how you feel. Let's frame this. The one thing I do find hilarious about the rangnick assistant coach is. What you've just said reminds me of Will Ferrell who is on the men in blazers show this week, quite amazing into quite an amazing interview in which he suddenly in the middle of the interview ripped off his clothing and had the men in blaze's football Jersey on underneath which was completely I mean it was just coin magnificent, but he talked in great depth about why he believes team should play a two 9 formation. And he says, 20 LAFC to play it for years, which is possibly how Steve Truman got the job Sunday two 30 p.m. Eastern Time on peacock, but the one thing that's funny to me about Manchester United is that we in America, we take great pride, you know, James sands today moved to rangers 21 year old from ray New York. I can't think of a place which is more of verse to write New York than Glasgow, but God love him. He's going to learn so bloody much and just thrive I hope really, really develop. We revel in every we've talked a lot about peppy. We talked a lot about DK. We revel in every step, everyone's taking. But even American soccer Twitter, even the Americans like a bubble is like, Chris Armas, Manchester, you know, he did. No one's taking cried in it. No one's even weird, just like, what? WTF, Chris Elvis, and that's kind of where you know it are. Let's touch quickly upon the transfers. Then we're going to dive into your Q&A bang your questions. Did you know the drill? You know, to just Gemma in the face ask your Q&A, we're going to dive on in in a minute. Yeah. Absolutely. Roger, it is. It is time to get to the Q&A portion. We're going to call you up into the stage invite you to speak when you move to the stage. Please just remember to stay muted until we call on you and then we'll hopefully get a few W's through the whole thing. We like doubles. And a reminder to everyone listening, the only way you can ask a question is to actually join us here on the green room app. Who is up first? Welcome face greater crack 2022 in this green room. "About him more. I'm sure in the bench part. So that means what Marvin ray comes in? That's who we're assuming makes that guy runs coming in. You could go die rod and sat duo Moreno. Who plays that guy? Who plays in a place before him? So daeron comes into the team, obviously. The question becomes, do you want to put Jimmy Chara in that central spot like you did against Sarah Sel? And play Santiago Moreno on the wing or do you want Laurie in that space and keep Jimmy char out wide? I think that's the question that's kind of what you have to figure out. I wouldn't be surprised if it's Laura in the team and Chara because I think you get the best out of Chara when he's out wide, especially with you assume there's a tax coming up from the fullback position for NYC FC, so there's space for him to take advantage of down that wing, and I also think you just saw such a high level from the Rhea and that gives you Moreno and Blanco as Ben shop since to be real weapons and I talked to geo for a while outside of the interview about Moreno and how excited they are about him and how much he's already improved and what he's done for this team, but I still think you're looking at a guy who you know can be a killer off the bench and change the game because you don't know if Blanco. Maybe you bring blank off dimension. He's not that strong. And you kind of have to take him back off. So I think Moreno off the bench makes more sense. I also think just the way and why CFC has dominated the ball and dominated the midfield. So far in these playoffs that asking Jimmy to be that guy in there with predecessor, you better served having blurry in there. He can be a threat attacking wise, but he's just really clean and responsible in those tight areas. I think that's going to be hugely hugely important in this game to try to slow down the YC and make sure you keep the game in the right game state for the timbers to be in a position to have the space to run into to counter attack to do what they like to do. Diego Chara, is the everlasting one. He's not going away anytime soon. Even at 35, it just doesn't stop for him. It's better. I don't know if he's on the preppy yoga thing, like a smile. It's just a happy, you feel young. It just slows through you. And then paretti, of course, on the other side, you've got James sands, I would think, and Alfredo Morales, and then maxim Morales. What are the strengths of the New York side in your opinion? Charlie, what do you see from that side? From that side, I look at sans and Ross. They're just busy. I think James sands realizes when he's in possession. It's too slow. And he's getting dispossessed. He's losing the ball. He's putting himself the team in bad positions. When he plays with the ball, the team and the ball in front of him and he's quick and it's one touch two touch, and it's very simple. That's when he's at his best, and that's when New York City is at FC's at their best because typically that means he's finding maximum in a pocket because he's right off his foot, where he's finding Morales and Morales finds the other Morales..

"Kind of has a one track mind. And it kind of you sort of question, yeah, when he's on, and it's flowing, he can get into a good rhythm and the confidence gets going, but when he's off, it can be disruptive where I feel like the team starts to search for him and focus on that, and then he's going for some sort of speculative chances at best and not really looking to get others involved now. Eber is not also fully fit yet, obviously coming off the injury and they just haven't gotten consistent contribution. And then you'd start looking at some of the injuries that they've had as well as far as just sort of chance creation through the wings. And then that's been a problem as well too. But I think it's going to be tight. You know, it's going to come down to the wire for them, obviously, but the next one's because they're going to play against D.C. Atlanta. They do have a game against inter Miami, Philly on the last day, Chicago's look better as of late. So, but the big problem has just been for them is getting goals. And right now, it looks like it's either Tati or or no one. Because no one right now, unfortunately for Ronda to figure this one out. Tailor made a good point on the broadcast about using James sands as the third center back. It brought Maxie Morales so deep in trying to build out. He's not around goal and it makes them less dangerous and not just that specifically. I think also the bigger point was running dialect hasn't really gotten a pulse on what's his best group and how he uses it. And Anton tenor Holmes the best fallback in MLS, it's a huge loss. No one's going to deny that, but every team's struggling with something right now. And the thing that we had said about NYC for four years now is they have the deepest roster. So they have to find a way to get good performances and cover. James sand started playing center back because they had injuries two years ago and they needed him to step in and solidify things. So there has to be some solution there going forward. Let's keep it going on the Eastern Conference because we're running out of time. We spoke an hour on the west. Eastern Conference folks out there. Atlanta go to Toronto to nothing. Wild game or as you get to the first goal, a couple red cards come later, a big win for Atlanta..

"I want to see every single one of our teams be competent. And more you know i want to see them have a soccer project that is admirable. I wanna see them connected their community and have people care deeply about their team and the results and everything that goes on within the organization but they got some big big work to do because right now they're saying it and this decision is a direct reflection of that and so i think changes come in certainly on the roster side that a lot of contracts coming up they signed deals with a bunch of guys before twenty twenty. Well it's to figure out how they can reset and they need a hard reset badly all right. Let's get to the us. Men's national team the roster. We'll get the mailbag. We'll get outta here. Charlie what do you think. Twenty seven guys called in by gregg berhalter. No gio raina. No christian pulisic. Those are injury issues. They could come in says gregg berhalter maybe could be called in mid cam. So it's a big tvd on that one two home games for the us In this go round instead of to away games to home one away. It starts on thursday jamaica in the us. And then you're gonna travel to panama always classic there. And then you're gonna host costa rica in columbus to finish it out. It surprises for you on this roster or did all make sense and we could go through the whole thing but by now people have seen it. They've listened to scupper. They've listened to total soccer show. They've got it pretty. Well figured out you do have weston mckennie back. No surprise there. Greg halter saying like he's fully back. We have with our business. We've talked to westin. it's all good. All guys dropped that you thought might be here. Just sergeant dropped walker zimmerman there. James sands not in this team people on this team. Conrad also not in this team you have. Uk based players and. Tim reams stephanou. "Dangerous. How is he not in the best. Twenty six hurt okay. So obviously gregg berhalter does not see him as a nine sees him as a wide player. Matthew hoppy is also in this limbo situation with this club. So this doesn't surprise me you you gotta let them sort that out and you can't just sign go somewhere and say hey by the way. I'm leaving if you're not an established player right now bundesliga too. I don't mind this look at the players who are in front of me. What do we have in front of matthew. Hoppy you're going to have christian pulisic gio raina. You're going to have who else do you have. Brendan errands and who's been absolutely on fire timmy. Way he had a great gold cup but versus gold cup opponents. These other players have been noonan at a higher level so with this club situation. I think it lends himself for. Maybe it's between him. And conrad. And if conrad establishing that clubs situation. Maybe greg hold a conversation with them. Fix your club situation. We'll go from there. Look you want to sing. George bellows praises. How does he get the call up. He doesn't surprise raise and doesn't get it on gold cup performance but you asked me. I said yeah that surprised me okay. What about george. Bello is surprise. Because he's there. Because of the position. Because i think what's really interesting. Is you basically look at him desk. You got two or three outside backs. Everybody else that they brought in on defense. And he brought ten defenders. He's got seven players who are all centrebacks or potentially centrebacks in back three does that tell us what formation wealthy formation. He's look he's looking at probably working at it three centreback formation and players who could potentially be part of that i was also surprised at james sands is on this list. Not the james sands is a bad player. But i didn't think he had a great gold cup. Wants the competition got stiffer. I thought he struggled even the all star game yesterday. You saw there's still some things in his game sometimes. Where maybe. He's a little over competent. Maybe he's not as great a defender as you think he's very good. Pass another back. Sometimes that that'll get you in trouble. I was surprised that maybe a chris richards for example wasn't on this list. Chris richards i. I know it's a club situation.

"Technical center back in the league in your opinion. Oh man that's a great question. I mean james you gotta love james sands level. He does little hybrid player. Jack elliott out there. Jack elliott pick another guy who can six goals in the boxer like that is not like business centreback guys. It's done this technical as well. Yeah both those guys. We can substitute and play the six anyone that you look at a professional level who can step into the midfield and create still as those are the top shop the skill just through the entire time the entire would miss come up. Nah i think maybe we'll just to make little cameo little just where they come in there. Yeah jersey underneath a button-down and as you get a little wig and maybe die my ponytail and supernanny do the reserve. Steve's steve nash show up in like pass them on the ball. A little assist man no problem. Let's talk a suck nashville. The big thing for last year to this year is the evolution from sort of a no nonsense. We're going to be very solid block rid. We had a ten success. That what we wanna be something a little bit more. How is that evolution. Going in your money. it's great. I mean i think clearly the stats will back that up. Is we've maintained defensive prowess that we had last year while also now adding a bunch of goals and so i think that is a combination of things Certainly the personnel. Who were playing very well. Cj hani forefront of that attack. But also i think it's credit to the front office at national for having more than just a one year plan you know. I think they came in and like okay. We know how to be successful. Expansion team is to just locked down the spine locked down. The defense shirley might not be as creative as people would like to see but we're going to be a competitive team and make it hard to break down so we did that year one and now they've kind of tried to maintain that in year two but then also you're right evolve and build more on the creative side of things attacking side of things and again. I think statuary back that up. I'm to give us the. Because i we haven't yet enough of him right into molested. Feel like we have. I don't feel like. I have an expert opinion on k. Love yes no. "I think can really help them. Make a surge in and potentially get up into that very top tier in. I'm less. i think that the ceiling for this team. Especially if you mentioned ever coming back. Talk about depth. I mean this. This team could be poised for a really good back. Half leading to the playoffs. Expected goes in. This game are absurd bud like they scored four three point. Three expected goals. Even you know even in a four-goal blowout that's a lot and the website is columbus. Had one shot on target and it was not a first first team. There's no josse in this when our tour is gone left-back pedro santos but he's been playing there for a while but this is a week in which kayla porter basically ask for more respect and sort of real back in a little bit and said oh but we do need more from our wingers and then this is the statement that gets made so columbus has to look at this and say okay. We do have work to do still. Maybe we're not at the level that we wanna be. Yeah and we'll we'll talk more about how the gold cut may factor into melissa in this episode. We went through all the us men's national team stuff last night but when you look at players that gained maybe the most out of the gold cup james sands has to be near the top as one of the players that got the most experienced and got great experience from that and i think at times. He's been maybe a little bit quiet or an unheralded with Nyc afc or you've said is. Are they hiding him in certain positions or places to make him at safe uncomfortable but after going through and facing mexico and they're a team and going against tunis moray his confidence and just that experience at the game from that. I think he's gonna you know sean. John's all already experienced You know one of the top goalkeepers really reliable. But i feel like james sands coming back into this nyc afc side. You may see another level as far as his leadership or just confident Building out of the back. He's always great on the ball. But i think he may have gained one of the most out of the gold cup experience eager to see how that translates that back to his club. So let me tell you. What's coming for them. Quick so the big game this month into the month. It's home against the reps. On the twenty eighth leading into the days smoked last game but matt turner was unbelievable. "And just kept chipping away. Kept chipping away until they finally got their goal and in this qatar semifinal Iasi's artists gordon the eighty six minute to give you know the. Us dramatic win. There and a lot of people were even though usa. Were certainly going to be considered favorites to at least make it to the final qatar. We're having an incredible tournament. I mean top their group Look very comfortable in their in their quarterfinal win against salvador. Even though they did only win three two you know they. They did what they had to do. Scored two goals early on in that game. Got penalty in the fifty fifth minute. We're up three nil on el salvador. So they're able to get a few goals back before the end of the the end of the game but it was too little too late for salvador so qatar. We're actually looking very solid and you would. You would not be surprised if peop- if they would've won this game because of how well they were playing but usa did not back down. They won and went up against mexico and the final who up until this point they had a little. They faltered a little bit in the beginning of a tournament. Getting a dragen stranded out into bego. But you know in the knockout rounds there. We're looking very solid defeating on us. Three nil Going up against canada on the semi final beating them two one and and looking pretty solid doing getting a legal from hector herrera. I mean that was a very you know back and forth game. I mean canada. Were certainly living up to the hype and really putting on a very very solid show against mexico team and you gotta be impressed with canada were able to do. But of course you're known was gonna pick against mexico especially since they were still going with a good amount of their eighteen players. I mean that needs to be set. A lot i i. I was seeing a lot of comments on social media saying you think this is mexico's eighteen and no this. Isn't there number one team. I'm not saying that every single player here plays for the you know the is going to be in the qualifiers. But you look at haystacks corona hector had atta arapahoe hector more all those guys are going to play some some solid minutes for the qualifiers and when you look at the. Us eighteen matt turner. You can maybe especially now after a very solid tournament you could see him as the number three goalkeeper because obviously he's not going to be over horvath and obviously not over Stephens either. So you know. There's obviously no way that matt turner is going to be. You know part that qualifying unless there's obviously which knock on wood. You never wanna see now. I'll tell you what the back line of james sands and miles robinson end specifically maoz robinson who had an incredible tournament. I will tell you certainly has a chance to make it into that starting lineup for the qualifying run after this. You know very solid run in the tournament. I mean you cannot deny the and then of course scoring the goal at the end of this back and forth affair between mexico. You know neither team you know really getting you know past the goalkeeper's they all had chances to score. No doubt about it but it wasn't until miles robinson who you know headed in a beautiful cross from kellyn cost into the back of the net to give them a usaa late once again. Another late win here in the one hundred seventeenth minute to get a winner in that fashion i. It's it just speaks a lot to this team and the culture that gregg berhalter is really setting up for this team for the future. It's really great to see. And i know a lot of people still don't believe that gregg berhalter is the coach of the future for this. Us men's national team. And i just don't understand why. I mean he's do making all the right decisions. He's winning these big games now. Obviously we still gotta wait for the qualifiers you know. And that's going to be the ultimate test playing in these tough conditions. These bad fields. It's going to be a you know a lot to ask from these players. Haven't really had to deal with that yet. Because you know as we know and what a lot of people love to mention. Is that a lot of these. Games are played if not most of these games are played in the us. So it's a lot of home games a lot of good fields you know. And that's not going to be the case most of the time throughout these qualifiers and they're just going to have to deal with it and it's going to. It's going to be interesting to see how these players know handle those conditions. 'cause as we know from what three years ago now they didn't handle it that well at trinidad and tobago. They were complaining about how the field was wet. It was just not a good field and It ultimately cost them that win and a chance to play in the world cup so I don't feel like that's going to be the case here. The culture is certainly being changed the the these players. Whether it's these kids that have been evaluated now are have been you know. They've been battled tested. You know we saw what the can do in the in. The nation's league final and that was huge. We saw a lot of character building moments throughout this summer. And you just wanna see more of it as we go through these qualifiers and it needs to be mentioned that these qualifiers are going to be extremely rough and it not only because of the conditions. Which i've already talked about but it's these three games sets. You're going to have what one week where you're going to have to play three games. That is not easy for these players. And that's why it was important for gregg berhalter to get a lot of these young guys in here to evaluate them and see which ones are ready to battle in these qualifiers. Because you're going to need them these are. These are going to be depth testing. You know three-game sets because you cannot expect yourself to play the same starting lineup through ultra games. I've is just not possible. So you know from from the guys that i looked at you know i always feel like you can rely on jet. A you know a nice veteran presence. You put off the bench I thought a costa had was very solid in that middle of the pitch showed that you know you have a guy now that can play that number six spot whenever tyler adams can't be there because you know that was a big issue. That was a big question and you weren't sure who was going to be able to take that spot when when tyler adams wasn't there carolina cost. I believe fills that role at least off the bench and can be of a spot starter. I've already talked to you. Guys about the about the defense with miles robinson james sands and even sam vines all three of those guys if you are viable pieces to play you know to to be depth pieces for this. Us men's national team. You know moving into the qualifiers. I honestly feel that now in attack it gets a little bit tougher. Like i feel like iasi's artis showed enough was very diligent with his runs. And and you know had a decent presence in the box arreola. I didn't see enough from him. You know he got into some some solid spaces almo scored in the final. If it wasn't for a spectacular save from that mexican goalkeeper as he was diving forward. Matthew hoppy i liked what he would. You know what he showed. But i still think he needs time to develop. Maybe another season in the bundesliga Which i think he's going to do extremely well in. I'm very very happy..

"And now i think people come away from this feeling good with him as a possible tyler adams replacement should that be the case James sands. I think another one that should be mentioned here who had a tournament maybe somewhat undefined. What his role would be what his best position would be. Whether it is central but fan centre-back whether it is some sort of defensive lying midfielder he had a couple of moments here and there that maybe causing some anxiety but overall. I think this was for a young player. This was a really important tournament for him. And the other one. Who i've said you know. I felt bad that shack morton start this game tonight because he's had such a good tournament bear halter had to make some really difficult decisions You know taking out you know. I mean he's had essentially there have been tweaks but for the most part he's had a team that he has relied upon To get to this point shack more was part of that Gianluca bouzo was part of that. And you know those guys to to not have been in the starting eleven tonight. I'm sure those are some uncomfortable. Conversations for for ultra g. to have. But you know. I guess you would say those when you win you know i. It's hard to sit here and say that those decisions didn't work and the fact that he was able to. Then bring all those guys on the sixty fifth minute to make an impact. You know i. I guess what about triple g. Jj in terms if we're talking about profiles being raised or what. How do we feel about him now. While i was just thinking last night if i was going to if we were going to interview triple g right now. Where would i say was the lowest point and his managerial moment for the us. And how has twenty twenty one turned around into this into this. Brilliant summer for the men's national team. And i think development i think i think really his convictions of how he wants this team to play first of all. They're much more organized at the back the day. They've been a long time. The carry a threat He's integrated so many young players and that's all down to him. I think he's done brilliantly. Brilliantly and. I wasn't sure that that was going to be the case. Say after an hour in toronto against against canada in october nineteen. I know you look back on that game. Quite frequently as a as a low point and since then it has been pretty good and this summer in particular for him to have now taken to trophies from mexico in finals. Yes it's like you know there. There will be haters out there but at least for the time being their their voices have been quieted. I would say somewhat somewhat substantially because this is again like we're talking about guys. What else could match on or do what else. Miles robinson dual greg. Bear halter results are what they are. What else could he be doing other than winning tournaments especially like with like we said with this experimental side against a mexican team. I mean it's not a small thing that he just achieved here. No it's certainly not a small tang and he can only play the tournaments that are scheduled now and in front of him. But i would like to push against rob stolen last night. Rob was you know. Obviously elated with performance insulated with what the team had achieved..

"First choice player for gregg berhalter. I think we all understand that. How about james sands. what's his. What's his place now. I think he did well. I think he's improved. His stock is stock. Is definitely gone up but as as a starter pencil then for the. Us team in a world qualifier. Not quite yet but miles robinson. What you love about mas robinson is. He's a right footed centre-back so when john brooks is on the left. It's a natural fit. Mark mckenzie's left-center left-footed centreback playing on the right. And he had a tough time against mexico although he rebounded against costa in the following match. If you take any stock in that match isn't two footed. Yeah but he's he's left. Would i mean that's preferred foot Either way those two if if mark starts off while in europe they're really going to be competing for that starting spot alongside john brooks and feel good about that. You feel really good about that. Because if mark doesn't continue to progress the what we've seen for miles. Robinson i mean is anticipation what what impressed me. The most throughout the gold cup with mas robinson is his ability to be beyond the ball. And be confident with this passing. I think his feet sharper and then he did step in to the midfield a couple times with the ball to start an attack he was playing switch balls to to the other flank. I was like is. This isn't the miles. Robinson i've seen the past. That's what i was thinking. Yeah him in belo he was like go at and it's like they were ready for it now. There was that play where robinson carries it all the way just continues carrying it. Look very comfortable moving up and then continues running the box To try to get on the end of it think he's three goals now in nine caps which is tremendous shows this threat as on set-pieces and as far as sands go you know we talked about the growth from young players individually also collectively the best way i think for young players to learn. You're gonna learn hard lessons right but you're going to add to better to learn and a win in a victory with trophy at the end and you could see sands learning a lot throughout the tournament. And he won as well and he he did enough and he looked more comfortable as things went on. I like him in a three back in a three centreback system. I think he could be used in that situation. I also think that that could be a good look for the us. Men's national team at certain points. I know that something greg's been interested in doing but the question we had coming out of nations league was do we have enough centreback. Good like we have three strong centre-back options that we can play in that position. And i think we sort of talked about it on the last show. But if you use. Mackenzie brooks and robinson that's three and then sands can also play at times in in the middle of those as well or maybe on the right so..

"To the two managers gregg berhalter and martina. This is going to surprise you. I'm gonna say greg beholder really okay. Because i thought you were going to say. I was ready to argue for greg. You getting greg. I'll tell you what i'll tell you why i Greg just beat out though. Yeah so so. I think he's got a little bit of their. I think if i'm looking at how so i don't think dottino is getting the most out of this. I think you can definitely say that gregg berhalter is getting the most out of this group. So if i'm analyzing the managers function then i gotta say greg berhalter's doing more right now. Let's look at the results beaten. Canada jamaica qatar. All with more of their team's in the us again. You're calling the team. I think when you look at what he's got to work with you have to give the edge similar halter other based on this tournament if we're going on cv's and all that stuff you know. You're not going to compare coach of barcelona. No why an argentina and say greg were halted beats amount. We're now looking at the resume but show me something this. I wouldn't even say just this tournament since before. The nation's league final they played against on dude in that semifinal. Where i'm thinking to myself i'm sorry. Costa rica semi-final i'm thinking to myself. Wow the pressure is getting to know you start to crumble. And then you see what he does in the final and how. He manages the team or mismanages his team. Any lets himself get red-carded so he's not there for us to just just seems like he's co crumbling under pressure and for the first time. Maybe it's depressed maybe environment. Maybe it's everything that goes around. What is the mexican national team. But he started to feel it. Any starring himself to make mistakes. It's cumulative it's cumulative pressure especially when you talk about the us brain greg's been consistent. It's anything everything right and talk about the. Us beating them in denver. What about pressure for the united states. Because you to borrow vegas term house money it really very much feels like there's nothing to lose. Here is the us in a final. That i don't know. Maybe i would think for a player. That's like an empowering dynamic. It is 'cause you're saying unless you're on the bad end of you know like a beating zero so but they won't know that going in no that going into the these kids won't have the pressure of the expectation of winning that place to their advantage. How naive they keep going into this. But i saw those nerves against qatar right. And that was in austin with a pro. Us crowd and you see the nurse. James sands all of a sudden felt the nerve shack. Moral lesson felt nerves. Players in that midfield felt the nerves. The only person who probably wasn't nervous or didn't seem like there were two was matt. Turner matthew copy. Everybody else. seemed like the moment had gotten to them just a bit right. Well that complain your favorite to now. If you're talking about you know house money that's a dangerous thing because you have nothing to lose your dangerous. There's a key difference here. Is it some pressure or no pressure for the us. Because i would still say you're at home gold cup final rival like. There's gotta be some pressure here. I would say there's some pressure to perform right. It's a win right. I mean i think the majority of us ms fans and the majority of the pundits in this area understand like they got to the final and how they got to the final who they're playing for this group. That's a win. you're playing against mexico. Nobody expects to beat mexico if you beat mexico you embarrassed mexico. That's a reality of a c team. You embarrassed mexico whether mexican pundits degrees c team or not. Let's call it a team. If you want dell embarrassing for mexico for this mexican national team. I think the pressure from mexico is collective the pressure for the. Us is like a little bit more individual. Look it is the concacaf gold cup right. So it's the perfect time for a little. You got kaka. Captain prime prime examples.

"So than anywhere else that i've seen. Well that's not very difficult. But yeah i'll take. We got our dream final. Usa mexico there were definitely some moments last night where it was nervous. Thought we might get a qatar canada final the highlights we'll start with the us and qatar q. To down in austin this was really hurt like one way traffic early on in this game. Nineteen th minute matt. Turner one of his many calls into action. Yeah this is difficult for matt. Turn because it takes a deduction james sands here and it's so difficult. Going one way to go the other unbelievable reaction say that was in the nineteen th minute two minutes later qatar back on the front foot turner again the big stop cash for qatar turner again. This is difficult because look at the dip on this gesture. He doesn't know whether or not he stays ends up. Being the correct decision and another reflex. Save this one ends up at the half being zero zero. Thanks in large. Parts of the first happened to that man. Turner fifty second minute. Lots of discussion leading into this. Would darrell k. Get the start. He does and this a big chancing couldn't finish. Yeah but for a second. Concentrate matthew copy and this delicate law. We love it. little nice. Delicate weighted pass left-foot indicate. I know the goalkeeper comes out making big that you have to pretend away from crazy. How quickly things can change because then a minute later at the other end qatar on the break and we get a penalty call. Well actually i. We don't get a penalty call. We go to vr and then the penalty is given her. What did you think because this divided opinion. No the penalty change saints gets a little touch on the ball. he does. He gets touching the player. I then he gets there burst ball then touch Look at you anti anti-american way. You're the first. You're blind as a dependent. You can't just whip leg out there in the box anti-american anti defender ways. That's what you're doing right there. Maybe how about this. How about this given the business calendar that give him the business. We've seen this before from calendar. Cost put on the old delay tactic to where Maybe we're or usa mexico. A little concha kaffa taste of the concacaf nelson for the qataris Their new here. But they'll sooner standing this megyn that'll happen upcoming penalty over the bar. Something between an shang. I don't know what you're trying to do here. Credit turner here for kind of holding you. Credit turner beholding but ultimately. That's just a bad shot all right so eighty six minute. Here's your game winner for the. Us nicholas gioacchini one of the suburbs to gases artists. Another one of the subs. Yeah it's a joke in here. You gotta get him. Probably eighty ninety percent of that goal. Watch the little drag. He notices defender already on the ground. Second offender doesn't push up zones. We've drags the ball to his left and then presence of mind outside of the foot finds justice already. It look in your face. Berhalter letting the fourth official know what he thinks about the goal there from justice artists. We should know. Greg did apologize after the match without as we take a look at the match statistics here. The possession suggests that the us were in control this match but her watching it especially that first half where i believe they were outshot thirteen to three the. Us were really hanging on for dear life throughout throughout large stretches. This game very large stretches possession. We knew that was going to happen so we did we. Did you think guitar would be as dangerous as they were throughout the whole game absolutely covered it we. We said that qatar would give you the ball. They will concede possession to you and they would rub a dope you. We actually said that term.

"That kind of incisive midfielder to kind of beat a player and then open up the gaps. Because you know andrew one guy things start to open up. Suddenly combination plays become possible. I really the only time in that first. Half was the time you talked about was where shack more decides right. I'm gonna comment inside. So he kind of cuts inside drives at there. Defensively bit slides ball in for decay. And i thought okay right well. Maybe that's something we can do. None of that really happened in game and what happened. Was you saw a well-dressed unit who are used to play together. Who can put together the kind of attacking combinations necessary to site open and they caught us open regularly in transition. It was it was the perfect kind of encapsulation of what qatari. Football is the national team. Are you know low block. Don't give up anything. And then if if there's a mistake are passes astray as in the case james sands early on and again you know you get on it and you break quickly and you pass quickly and i taught a fief was brilliant and it was really the it was really the matt turner show in the first half. Yeah you're right about qatar. I mean. I thought that they were pretty impressive. They were disciplined and how they were gonna play and what their style was going to be and if they were just like us a little bit more incisive at the end of some of these moves. It could have been a different game. I mean they're finishing and there were moments to where it wasn't just a matter of finishing some decision making shots from forty yards out when the us is on their heels. And just you're just bailing this team. That's kind of like defending their lives a little bit. You're just bailing them out with some of these these shots elections Debt qatar settling four. Not a ton of that but enough of it tonight that it kinda let the us off the hook and certain moments and you're right to. I mean you mentioned the james sands moment early on in this game. I thought he struggled little bit. And we'll get to the penalty But you know qatar like they showed on. The broadcast was the one angle from behind the goal. Their bathing him into making that crossfield pass. There's a qatari player waiting to intercept. All they do and next thing you know. They're on the break and it just ended. I forget who it was. That took the final shot. Aziz maybe fired wide. I think it was ali and he. He dragged it white. Yeah but but how many times. I feel like we saw clone of that sort of moment time and time again throughout the course specifically of the first half. Yeah look when they were constantly trying to get the the the matchup of fief versus shack. More whatever research. They don't shack more. How many times does it swish. The left hand side and it nearly paid off in the forty nine. Th minute actually excuse me where a fief burns shack more and beside there's a gap in behind him and I think that's part of the problem. Having busey on that side he doesn't read the dangerous so there's a big gap left whereas you want someone a midfielder slotting in there so the centre-half doesn't have to promote whatever so he's skins in behind him and centers for. And i thought oh this is going in. And he just gets his left hand to andrew and tips at round. the post My turner is growing in my estimation with every game and is now a serious contender. There are now three clear contenders for the number one spot and it's so interesting because matt turner plays weaken week goes for the new england revolution. Even horvath we expect. USMNT Announces Gold Cup Roster

"Right into a charlie. This is this is what we like to do. This is only like to think about. This is what we're looking forward to this summer after that. Big nations league victory from the us. Mnt the gold cup. We knew that this was not going to be the same roster. That went out competed oakley one that nation's league tournament gregg berhalter has been saying it for a long time.
