"A red wave. Well, I'm not sure they did miss. I mean, the polls actually had a pretty good year this year. On the close races, most of the polls said it was going to be close. We're still waiting for several Senate races. And the vote is going to be one or two points, which is well within the margin of error of any poll. So I think that's one aspect that the legitimate public polls did not have such a bad year. They said it was going to be close. It is close. How much of this is those of us in the media not really understanding what polling does and doesn't do and what it can and can't do. Well, I think there's a lot of that and pollsters themselves are not without blame, but we talk about the margin of air filled with blue in the face, but nobody wants to hear about that. Any poll is an estimate of the population. And so the margin of error means that the poll is likely to be within this range and it's usually plus or minus three or four points. So if a election has decided by two points, the poll actually kind of got it right, but yeah, two points swing when it's a 13 point race is one thing, but a two point swing when it's 50 50 could go either way. Right. And so many of these races are right on that knife's edge. And so it's within that margin of error. The other aspect of the margin of error, which nobody talks about, is that we have a 95% confidence that it's going to be within the margin of error. So one out of every 20 polls is statistically probably going to be wrong. There was also an actual dynamic this year. Early in the year, all the polls are polls were showing a Republican wave building like a January February. Then the gobs decision really changed the dynamic of the race. And all of a sudden it looked like Democrats were going to have a good year. Then it started to dissipate a bit and the Republicans kind of came back and tightened up and I characterize it in our September poll, which incidentally had Murray had by 12. She's now leading by 14. It was like things kind of got back to normal. There was a red wave. There was a blue surge and now we're back to normal, which is in Washington state. That means that ten or 11 point advantage for Democrats. How much more difficult is it to get an accurate sample of the electorate now that fewer people have landlines? A lot of people don't answer the phone when they see that unknown number pop up. It seems like it's a lot harder to get a hold of voters now than it was 20 years ago. It's much harder. Actually, caller ID is done more damage to my industry than cell phones with kind of got the cell phones. Now, but caller ID, the response rate has just plummeted. And so that makes it as you point out more difficult to get a representative sample. "Going to kick off this Belmont edition of I asked the answer in this fashion. It was on April 30th the April 30th edition of this show that I asked you if Todd pletcher's record number of Kentucky Derby starters was ever going to be topped. And here is what each of you had to say. Ever record is made and ever record can be broken. And so yeah, there's no safe records. Nobody would have thought Wayne's record would have been broken by Todd. So somebody will come along someday and go past him too. It's just the way life is. Well, like Dale says, yeah, records are made to be broken, but not all records are broken. Todd's two horses get to the Derby a week from today. They'll have 61 runners in The Kentucky Derby. At the age of 54, put a little perspective on that when Dwayne Lucas was 54, he had started 15 horses in The Kentucky Derby. And Todd's numbers are going to go up. I don't know if we're going to see anyone pass it in our lifetime. All right, well, we'll see what happens with the pletcher record, but in terms of today's Belmont trainer James Rowe junior holds the record for most wins with 8 that came from 1883 to 1913, but the best he could do was two in a row. The great woody Stephens saddled 5 consecutive Belmont stakes winners from 1982 to 1986. Yeah, guys, he won them all, is woody's record one that has ever going to be equaled. Dale, why don't you kick it off? I mean, I'm the one that said records are made to be broken. This is a record that will never be broken. What do you see with my hero growing up? And I ended up working for him for not long, four months, or 5 months, one year, and it's just an unbelievable feat. And what he would remind you of that anytime you want to talk to him. That record ever being broken 5 in a row. Yeah, I mean, I remember when I was first starting out covering this talking to woody at Saratoga and he'd be on his pony. And he'd always make sure that he said, yeah, I'm one 5 Belmont, you know? But the interesting thing about that with woody's, woody only is great a career as he had. In the Belmont stakes, he only had 9 horses that he started in the Belmont. I mean, you think about that and he was 69 years old when he won his first one in 82 with conquistador Cielo. I mean, it's hard to get horses in the Belmont 5 years in a row, let alone win it 5 years in a row. There's absolutely, I don't think there's any chance that anyone's going to break woody Stevens record unless woody Stevens comes back to life and does it himself because he knew how to horse, you know how to get a horse ready for the Belmont stakes. I mean, he starts yellow. We won the 5 days before he won the Belmont to start that streak off and only one of those forces in that streak was ever favored. That was swale. So yeah, that's a record that is going to stand, I think, for the test of time. I mean, that's like DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak. That's never going to be touched. This one's never going to be touched either. Real quick story about that. Go. When I was 19 years old, I went to Hialeah and I'm basically to work for what he Stevens. And dancing connection was coming off as two year old career and he was just turning three. And he's coming off knee surgery. And so his groom, I can't remember his name to this date, but we always call it corn. And we would hang out in a barn and play board games till feed time all the time, corn was a good kit. But he started playing sick because he wanted some time off and I started rubbing dance connection. And I'm rubbing on his legs, rubbing on his all of a sudden I get a big scratch at cost my hand. I look down. The stitches that they had put in after his knee surgery were not even taken out yet. When we took those stitch, we took those stitches out. I think all the time, so the assistance trainer tells me the next day. Because she knows I'm coming back to Kentucky to go borrow for my dad when the weather broke. We were highly erased track. I was living in a ten by 20 tack room with two other people in a basset hound living on a little cot. And she said, if corn doesn't show up tomorrow to work, you're going to keep this horse and you can have him rest of the year. And he was my good friend, but I was praying that he wouldn't show up because I thought of all the money I was going to make with Dan's connection the rest of the year in corn got word of it, and of course he was up feeling great the next morning and took over my horse. Wow, what a great story. The great woody Stevens and he impacted so many people in the sport certainly are very own Dale Romans impacted by woody Stevens. All right, question number two, it was on this day. In 1919, that sir Barton completed the first ever Triple Crown sweep with his win in the Belmont stakes. Since that time, 13 horses have pulled off one of the most difficult hat tricks in all of sports. Guys, for the purpose of this question, take secretary out of the equation. Of the other 12 Triple Crown winners. Who is the greatest of all time? Tim? You know, that's a that's another loaded question too. I mean, any horse that completes that tough triple has to be a very damn good horse..

Of the other 12 Triple Crown winners. Who is the greatest of all time? Tim? You know, that's another loaded question too. I mean, any horse that completes that tough triple has to be a very damn good horse. For me, I'm going back to 1948 and citation. One of the Derby by three and a half, when the preek just by 5 and a half, he won the Belmont by 8, 32 wins and 45 career starts big sigh was a racing machine back then and under the great art Carol. It was for me, he gets the nod at the wire over just about all of them. I mean, I think that every horse is special that did that, but I would have loved to have been able to see citation run, but everything I've read about him and seen films of him. He was a special horse and he's my winner. Well, I hate to go lockstep with Tim, but there's one photograph of a horse in my house other than one I've had myself. And that's citation being galloped to San Anita when a guy's got a sport coat on and a floppy hat, no fast, no helmet. And none of that. So I think he's one of the most influential horses in racing history. There's a whole story that Jimmie Johnson and Benjamin Ben Jones and Jimmy Jones were on the verge of getting fired by Kelly met when he came along. They even created a bit. He was such a strong horse. They created and made Ben Jones did a bit. They would cut his air off when he was training if he got going too fast and too hard and he couldn't slow him down. They called the citation bet to this day. I don't see many people using it anymore. But I would have to say citation was a game changer. I kept the Joneses around with guy who met for a few more years and a few more derbies. And probably one of the greatest sources of all time. With that being said, being there in the Belmont on American pharaoh one, it's one of the most electrifying experiences of my life..

"The winner was number four, mischievous Diane. She's a three year old chestnut Philly by practical joke out of the Lion heart mayor lioness lar owned by thoroughbreds and trained by ray handel. Boy, he is just winning left and right this minute at Belmont park. Dylan Davis with another win. He's also clicking at about a 20% clip, so good meat for Dylan Davis, great meat for ray handled thus far at Belmont park. Number four, mischievous Diane returning 6 33 ten and two 52nd number one Jane grey, big run off the layoff for her $3 and two 60, third was number three rubies and time at three ten fourth was number 5 Baba dollar exact to pay $10. The 50 cent try $18 37 cents. And the dollar super $79 and 20 cents. Okay, taking a look at what we've got coming up at Belmont park. Horses are on the track for the upcoming 8th race. It is the grade two, $400,000, Belmont gold cup, four year olds and up two miles on the turf at delmont park. We've got a field of 8 with no scratches or rider changes, and they're just parading in front of the stands right now. Before we get to this race, it was kind of listening to what Anthony's to be had to say and listening to the stretch run of nest winning the Ashland. Of course, last time a Philly beat the boys in the Belmont stakes was the Todd pletcher trainee rags to riches who did it in 2007 as Anthony mentioned. Todd pletcher has won three Belmont stakes, not only rags to riches, but palace malice in 2013. Tap it in 2017. So this is a race that he focuses on and obviously he has had great success in this race over the years. Interesting to note some of the records in the Belmont stakes. We all know, even if we weren't there, whether we weren't weren't racing fans back then or if we weren't alive back then or we all know the story of secretary back in 1973, not only winning by an unbelievable 31 lengths and of course the call of him moving like a tremendous machine and setting the track record of two minutes, 24 seconds flat. Do you know who the second and third most biggest winners of the Belmont are? I'm talking about lengths of victory because these are ones that you don't hear of very often and I'm going to give you a hint. It's way before secretary it did in 1973. Back in 1943, count fleet won by 25 lengths in 1920, the great man of war won by 20 links. And by the way, when he won, he was going a mile in three eighths. So we went a little bit of a shorter distance than secretariat did back in 73 and what they do now at a mile and a half. The Belmont stakes has not always been the distance of a mile and a half. In fact, this is the 5th different distance it has been in its history. It's been a myelin three 8, a mile and 5 eighths, a mile and an 8th. And a mile and a quarter, but for the most part, for most of our lifetimes, we've seen it at a mile and a half, and that's what we're going to see it once again tomorrow. By the way, most wins by a trainer, James Rowe, did it 8 times between 1883 and 1913, I'm going to guess none of our listeners have ever met James Rowe. Just a guess. I don't know. If you've met James Rowe, I don't know how I could dispute it. I would guess you're a little older than I am. Or James Rowe lived a long, long time. Okay, let's get back to some live racing. By the way, if you'd like to call into the show anytime you'd like to call in 888-966-4776, loved hearing Anthony stabile's opinions, I would love to hear your opinions on some of the big races today and tomorrow at Belmont park. We've got a big one coming up three minutes from now. It's this Belmont gold cup at the strange distance of two miles on the turf. It's just a distance. You basically never see in this country. It's not like you see it very often in big races in Europe either, but more so there than here. We've got a couple of European invaders in the field. In fact, two of the runners have been running exclusively or mainly in Europe of late. Number one loft, who is co favorite, in fact, second choice now at 5 to two for Marcel Visa Andre starved has been renting in Germany in some group races and actually won a group two race in Germany in his last start. I'm not really sure what that means. We all know how good the racing is in Great Britain and Ireland and France when you start seeing these group races in Germany and Italy, we respect them, but we don't know if they're quite the level of the group races in France or in Great Britain or in Ireland places like that. So I don't know what this means by loft being able to beat these kind of horses in Germany. He's been very good in group two and group three races of late in Germany. We'll see how that equates to running in a grade two race today at beautiful Belmont park. The other foreigner that's invading and this is something you don't normally see is number four out box who's 7 to two right now on the board. He is a 7 year old. You do not usually see horses of that age coming over to the states for the first time. He's another one that has been doing well in group competition. Now he was good enough to finish third in a group two race at newmarket in Great Britain two starts ago. He won a group one race in Qatar or Qatar, however you want to pronounce a QAT AR. I'm guessing that's not quite the level of the European graded races or even the American greater races. So I don't know what to expect from outbox other than outbox does bring his regular writer Holly Doyle in an outbox has something in his past performances. You don't normally see from these Euro invaders..

"Hello, my Friends and welcome to episode 286 of the running for a podcast. Thank you for joining me today. I am excited that you are here. I'm excited for us to all get to know our guest today. So I want to tell you a little bit about James Rowe. He is a physical therapist. He's the founder of Atlanta run club and the cofounder and a trainer at ark studio, which is also in Atlanta. And he is in the AGC collective that all birds all good collective with me, which is you're going to hear a little bit more about what that is. We are not just here to talk about all beds. You are going to hear that James has a lot to share. He has done so much for the community in the Atlanta area, but also we talk about coming to move forward together mentally, how running can be a part of that. He has a beautiful way of explaining things and we talk about that battle within ourselves that running can provide that judgment free space and how running can intersect with many other areas of our lives. For James you will hear that he talks about hip hop and run culture going together and about his faith also relates to his running so you're going to get to hear about that and caring for the planet as well. So there's lots of different elements of James that you are really going to get to enjoy. So without any further ado, let's go meet James Rowe. Our Friends, I am still reveling in the fact that we are working at running through with all birds. I have been loving this company since I first heard about them and I am really excited about working with them and just seeing what they are able to do as they change the running community. So after years of researching and tinkering, Tim and Joey came up with this revolutionary wool fabric made specifically to footwear that gave an entirely new category of shoes inspired by natural materials and an ongoing mantra to create better things in a better way. Now they keep things simple, they don't want to have flashy logo or senseless details, just comfortable shoes and let me tell you they are very, very comfortable I wear them all day every day. If you see me out and about in a pair of shoes, 95% of the time and less I'm out on a date with Steve, maybe even sometimes then I am wearing my all red three dashes. They are made from natural materials in favor of those cheaper synthetic alternatives and they are determined to change things. They just did a partnership as I mentioned recently with Adidas and I was able to run a race in them recently and I loved them. They felt so fast I felt really good. They were really comfortable and that is called the future craft footprint. Now these are hard to get a hold of, but you have to be ready when they drop. Although there will be more coming out available in the next few months to pay attention. To what I am saying and also to the orbeez website if you are interested or my email newsletter and you will be able to find out more that. Now, as I mentioned about the materials, they use a lot of wool these a lot of sugar, they use a lot of trino and other materials that are recycled bottles, recycled cardboard, hardboard, has to be an oil and just really waste thinking about every single step. Now I've been working alongside this company. I finally feel like I'm part of something. Now I don't have a special code for you right now. I just want to let you know about this company. So go check it out for yourself, you can just go to all birds dot com. I don't have a code for you right now. I'm not trying to sell you anything. I just want to alert you to what this company are doing. If they have been able to partner with Adidas and get them to create the super shoe that was only 2.94 kilograms of carbon per pair when the industry average is 15 for that future craft footprint. They are doing big things. They are changing things. So proud to be a part of it. So go to all birds dot com to go check it out. Oh, and they do have kids sheets. So if you have young kids go check them out, I have a pepper Bailey and we love being twins. So go check it out. Thank you again to ubers. James, thank you so much for joining me today on the running for real podcast. I am excited that you are here. Thank you. Thank you for having me. Yeah, this is going to be fun. I'm really thankful that you and I, well, I shouldn't say reconnected because actually I was watching you present and I was like, I've got to have this guy on the show. He and then went to your social media account, was just blown away by the beauty of the synergy of bringing hip hop culture and running and your faith and then just bringing it all together. It was planet focus. Everything. It was really well done in this beautiful way. So immediately I knew you would be a fantastic fit for our show. And so I'm excited to dive in. But firstly I want to just ask you you and I took before and it's raining there, snowing here. It is February, which is typically when people feel a bit on the rough side mentally with winter being in full effect. So how are you? I am doing great. Yeah, had a little rough journey up here. I'm currently at a coworking space as I was saying earlier, but overall, I mean, you know, just been in a season of gratitude and just been feeling thankful for people around me and excited to figure out life, although I don't have it all put together right now. Yeah, I just excited to figure it out and join the company of people around me. I appreciate you saying that. And you said about gratitude and it's something our listeners hear about often something we in society here about often, but how did you I'm just curious how you came to that place with that was it a conscious practice? Was it a certain moment that made you think about that? How did that come to you? Yeah, you know, I think for many of us, the past couple of years have been quite the challenge because of COVID and the pandemic and me personally too. I think I hit almost a bottom point. When it came to my personal circumstance, mental health, you know, in my background in fitness and wellness running, it's like, it's the one thing that requires such human presence and social gathering. And experiencing a season of those things kind of being on pause made me, yeah, just be really face to face with the challenges. But even in the midst of that, I still can walk away feeling this sense of gratitude and peace of like, you know what? Even though these things have happened, there have always been opportunities to adapt to evolve and just keep moving forward. So you're absolutely right. And I think there's something about the fact that everyone worldwide is working through this that makes it, yes, while we are aware that the billionaires are getting richer during this time. There's also this kind of camaraderie that we can feel knowing that, as you said, opportunities will be there and everyone is struggling, but that means somewhere somehow there are going to be things that come up that are positive, even if it is a horrible situation that they're coming from. And as you said, how can we make the most of those as they come up and be grateful for the good things we do have in our life, even if it's not ideal because everyone is going through tough times. Yeah..

"Cycle. And look what we have. World Economic Forum, World Health Organization, World Trade Organization, world association. We have the IMF. We have the UN UN completely ineffective and nobody trusts any of the other institutions to shit right now. Yeah. But I mean, if that's not peak centralization, I don't know what is. Well, what's super interesting about that is we're seeing present bikini in El Salvador completely taken on the IMF and I don't need you. I love it. I can use decentralization to avoid using you. Yeah. So that's one of those first flags of somebody going against the centralization saying we can do this different. And I guess jumping ahead probably to some of your answers later on, but that could create a snowball effect. But other people are like, huh, they've done it without the IMF. We can do it without the imaging. So as we're peaking out at centralization or globalization and the world is starting to reject it, so we have populist uprisings all around the world right now as we speak and a president is also pushing back. So we're peaking out and we're starting to get the pushback and it's going to start swinging back the other way. Interesting. Interesting. So the fact that the president of El Salvador is doing that is a sign of this exactly what I'm talking about happening. Interesting. And then we have peak decentralization cycles where 1823, president James Rowe said the U.S. is not subject to the EU powers anymore. 1903, well, 1983, like this one, Michael Jackson. Crazy costumes, total individual. Single kiss, rock band kiss. And those were like individual them. We almost people almost went overboard with costumes and to be this be different than everybody else. Ronald Reagan said Gorbachev tear down that wall. In 2063 will be the peak of the individual, the me cycle again. It's in about 40 years from now. I think most over here. I think also we see the rise of postmodernism or Marxism. So there's an attack on free speech. You don't have the right to say anything. You're not an individual. It's we were all in this together, right? They're attacking private property rights. You don't have the right as an individual to have property rates. It's a collective. So you can see that with what happened in a Kenosha with a kid written house, right? Yeah. He was there trying to help people defend their private property..

"Coast came to celebrate his achievements. 20 grand first gained attention on October 4th, 1930, when he won the junior champion stakes at aqueduct. Dispatched at odds of 7 to one, he upset the one to 5 favorite equipoise with a mile in one minute, 38 seconds flat. Observers noted that gallant Fox had won the same race in the exact same time one year earlier before sweeping The Kentucky Derby, greatness and Belmont the following spring. Some 12 days later, on October 16th, 20 grand headed to Churchill downs for the Kentucky jockey club stakes, which, one might say, was the breeders cup juvenile of its time. The race paid $25,000 to the winner and usually determined the winterbook favorite for The Kentucky Derby. 20 grand would once again be the second choice behind equipoise and once again, 20 grand would prevail. Beating the favorite by a neck, 20 grand got the mile in one minute 36 seconds flat, not only breaking the track record, but also knocking a full second off the world record for a two year old at the distance. Equipoise owned by Helen hay Whitney's nephew Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney was still considered champion two year old for 1930, mainly on the strength of his $150,000 in earnings. By comparison 20 grand had won only 35,000. But 20 grand was a late blooming sensation, with the Kentucky jockey club marking his fourth win in just 6 starts. As 1930 drew to a close, 20 grand trainer, Thomas W Murphy began clashing with greentree racing adviser Louis beard over management of the cult. The dispute would result in Murphy being fired at the end of the year. And so, James Rowe junior better known as Jimmy, would become 20 grand new conditioner. And the Ivy League graduate who was 42 years of age at the time would prove equal to the task. On May 2nd, 1931, 20 grand made his three year old debut in the wood memorial. In a race which was shrouded in fog, 20 grand rallied from fourth in the final furlong to win as the three to 5 favorite by a half length. Following a loss in the Preakness 20 grand headed to Churchill downs for the 57th running of The Kentucky Derby, and he capitalized when archrival equipoise was scratched with an injury on the morning of the race. With jockey Charlie Kurt singer aboard, 20 grand rolled to victory in the run for.
