"I did not see that happening, and they were able to do so, uh, talking to James Rippin this morning. James with Sports illustrated and all. Bengals dot com. Ah, uh And you know the thing with the defense. Tell me, they really grant it's week. One. Um, they looked into it Looks like an entirely different squad because they were cousins all day. I think they had met. You said the penalties against the O Line alone. Kirk Cousins got sacked with three times and guys like, um, um Adobe, uh, easier and Mike Hilton look great. I mean, they just there were ball in the entire first half. They were. You know, we've seen it from him from all of camp. And it just translated right through the game, and he was right there step for step with a lot of plays Justin Jefferson, and that's the crazy part about this is what we've talked about. I'm sure you're asking me about chase at some point, but she struggles in camp. Well, Part of that is because he has made his life really, really hard and he's made it hard on him, and he's played really Well at a high level. I think he was MVP's so to speak of training camp and have one of those because of the way he played in a translated to the game we saw season against Washington and then it's certainly translated yesterday, so that doesn't bode well because Now you're talking about a secondary that if it was, you can be a legit number one corner and you have Jesse Bates in the bachelor area in the second area as well, along with the bell. And if this defensive lines getting somewhat of a push You have a pretty good group. You have a unit that you can work with. That can do some damage and that can change the game. Some so I think all you have to look at right is DJ reader. I mean, how bad a day to DJ reader have who normally doesn't have bad days. DJ reader. You just like he wanted to crawl into Iraq. You didn't think DJ reader played well? Oh, no, no No. Three, the three holding calls. What I'm saying is what he forced. All Okay? Actually. Yeah. You threw me off the holes in the two sacks. I mean, it's whether yeah, it means you know you're playing against this guy, and you're just having a bad day. Well, that's the crazy part. Two is It's not just reader, but you're right, like leader had a couple of them. Larry Ogunjobi got things started early, and he was getting a ton of push and then B. J Hill. Man. They get him in a deal for Billy Price and on paper. Great, like yeah, On paper, it felt like they won this deal. Look at what he has done. Well, he's got two sacks already Incredible 17 facts that they team last year, and they got to from their defensive tackle. That wasn't on the team two weeks ago, So those are the three That, you know, Reader, Okonjo, Vinnie and Hill. That is like man, that trio that's going to make it tough on opposing offense. That wasn't steel. Yeah, we're gonna have Mendelssohn's be happy, Billy Price we got. I don't know. A couple kicking tees a Gatorade bottle in like a Cockney crate. Great. Done. Yeah, I think the Giants are I don't know about kicking themselves because they, you know they were deep at defensive line, but the probably kicking themselves, um All right. So let's mom switch it up here to the defense. Absolutely spectacular. Jamaar Chase, of course, had his problems with drops in the preseason. That was, you know, he had a couple of couple targets didn't go his way. But You're finished with 100 yards and a touchdown. Pretty damn good. Very good. It's exactly why they drafted him. You know, to make those plays to be that game changer to lead the team in receiving on any given week and especially in the second half when he Higgins They be almost some cramp issues and not able to be out there playing and play out where you still want the offense to function at a high level, and exactly what it did was your mom. He's uh He looked apart. I mean, he's going up against Patrick Peterson. And you know a lot of the game, and when he wasn't getting targeted, he was blocking in the run game, And then he beats shock breathing for that 50 yarder, and I think it was just Catching one ball and it was that little outrun. He got that out route. Um, and he had two catches by the way in the Bengals first scoring drive That pretty hard past that to tee Higgins. Help get things going. And then right back at it a few minutes later with that 50 yarder, and I don't know what did you see that LSE tweet, But no, I think that they think up the touchdown pass from birth to chase from yesterday. To the one in the national championship game in 2020 against Clemson, and they look almost identical. It's It's a really cool. Um, Yeah, Okay, then. Now you know, we can't give it a positive because we're talking about the banks. The concern is how much concern is areas burrows here. What, five times? Um I think it's seven times that's got to be somewhat concerned. Now granted, you know you've got some new pieces in there. I watch the watch The Steelers dismantle my bills. Bills look terrible more on that in just a second. Um, but they've got an entirely new lines save one player and they look great. So you can't just say yeah. You know, we got to get a gotta get some chemistry here together. You've been playing the entire preseason What gives on the line? Well, I think it was partially the offensive line, but I don't think it was on the offensive line Would Trey Hopkins Got beat pretty bad twice, where where Borough got crushed, And so those are obvious ones, But it doesn't take an offensive line expert or an analyst to point those out to anybody that being said, I think there were times Remember was not miscommunication but mysteries and that could be on burrow where you don't know where the blitz is necessarily coming from because of how large disguise that where the pressure is coming from because of Mike Dimmers defense and it is confusing and I'm sure there were some times where we took a hit. I'm not saying three of the facts on borough or anything, You know his fault, but there might be a time or two, where he's under pressure quicker than he realizes. Because of the check. He made it at the line of scrimmage, so we'll see. But no, I agree with you. Five sacks is unacceptable. It can't happen. We can't see Borough limping off the field. He injured his ankle there and I know he stayed in the game. But I I think there's I don't think it's a coincidence that he stopped throwing the ball as much after that. And if you go back and you look, he was not pushing the ball down the field much and really, the 1 30 years, Mama. That that clinched. It was kind of it as far as downfield throws go, so we'll monitor and angle this week, but they Yeah, they got to keep them upright and find a way to do it. For the most part, I think they did a good job. But, yeah, it's tough against that Vikings from James Rippin on this morning on 700 wlw. He's with sports illustrated Bengals.

"Well of Bengal snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and then victory from the jaws. Of overtime, baby. Today. Probably. I think the most exciting game of the week quite honestly. So Bengals representing or off to a start Saturday college football action Sunday NFL action Sunday was like Christmas morning. Getting ready for week one and joining. We had Dave lap. Um we had lap calling the game and now we've got wrapped James Rippin with the breakdown. James rippin from Sports illustrated all Bengals dot com. Good morning. How are you doing, buddy? I'm wearing any. How are you? I'm doing fine. Um So obviously it came down to 2/4 down calls, right. So you go for it on fourth down, Give the ball to the Vikings on the 30 yard line, sets up the TV to a feeling who exposed the mismatch with Eli Bad Apple and absolutely stupid call by Taylor like he was huffing glue. Then all of a sudden, later in the game, we're in overtime. Jesse Bates strips the ball from Dalvin Cook, one of better running backs in the NFL, two minutes fourth and inches, hits, his AAMA and the call of the game. Sets up the field goal. Great call. He looked like a genius Coach Taylor dead a tale of two tailors. So that's basically the summary of the game right now. It came down to 2 4000 calls. I did and honestly going forward on fourth them at first time, you're right it if you're in control of the game position at the same time, if you're going to do it, and Taylor talked about this after the game, maybe don't run it right into where the Vikings are hoping you run it on fourth and one and I don't mix it Swift. But it was just, you know, maybe that's when you run a little pie action or get the ball to someone that no, you're not expecting. Because if you're going for it there, you've got to be creative. Explain, James, Did you explain why he did. Sided to go for it on his own 30 with Game in hand. He's trying to end the game. That was that was just thought. Alright, Work two scores. If we go down and score here, it's over. It's fourth and one. We have all the momentum and I understand trying to be aggressive, but that's like mad and aggressive. We're going to do that. Then it's a little bit. Then you've got to have a play called that's foolproof and just running it up gut. You know, it's it wasn't up the gut. I think it was in the Yeah, That's a tough ask even though you are getting pushed all day. Tapping said the second one I was upset, so they had to place called in the huddle. Taylor called him like you said, and they want to sneak so they could have snuck it. But The thing is, is the way the Vikings will look. They showed it was like, no, we're not doing that. Because they're going to have guys here and here in both age gaps around Trey Hopkins, and so that's going to happen. Well, let's call this play. And oddly enough, Scott, they ran this play. Zero didn't like how they ran it, I guess in practice last week, so they ran it again and he threw to use drama. And apparently, they've run this play for three years or so since Taylor got here never got the ball until this past week at practice. Burrows idea. And then it turns out being the game winner and runs for 32 yards and sets up in McPherson for the game winning. Yeah, um, in the thing, too, and I don't want to play. You know the what ifs here. But if that fourth down pass in overtime, let's say that doesn't work. In Minnesota takes that football over with a good field position at the 50. What is the fan base like today? I would think it would be mutiny because all of the goodwill that and to her credit to Elizabeth Blackburn is built up with the you know the throne and the atmosphere in the jungle, and it's a whole different field. The marketing element with a ring of honor. All these great changes and Goodwill to the fans. I think it evaporates. After that, Maybe I would have gone for it there, though, because you're not playing the top like if he would have punted. I would have been more Yeah, Yeah. Yeah, You have to try to win. And you're right. I mean, look if it doesn't go right that Minnesota with their weapons their 15 yards away from getting into field goal range. And Greg Joseph had made a 53 yard to force overtime. So it's not like he doesn't have the legs like get it. I understand that. But good news is at least for one week, though, Scott, we don't have to have those conversations in McPherson fiercely through Yeah. So, um, there's a lot going on here, too, And it's a great one for that was certainly I think the most exciting game in the weekend to be honest with you. It was a fun game to watch the Vikings 10 penalties 90 yards in the first half. I think that there's a lot of credit there. Um, and it doesn't take away from the Bengals at all. But you're giving up an entire football field in the first half. For sure. And the crowd had something to do with that in Berlin, acknowledged it afterwards. You have all those false starts early on, and man, what a help that was. Just to get the momentum on the bangle side and part of that, too, with how dominant they were in the trenches on that defensive line. I mean, those guys were moving people. And putting opposing offensive lineman in the Kirk Cousins lap. That's the worst when you're getting your guys in that in the middle, not only outside the tackle spot The Garden Center. You're pushing those guys back right for the laps of the quarterback. It just makes it hard. Even if you go back and you look at that first drive second drive that the Vikings had Kirk cousins, Mrs Masters a wide open Justin Jefferson in terms of behind him, and that would have been a first down and that suddenly you're moving the bottle and things change in momentum in the defensive tyrant. Incredible pass was off target because they pressured him. And that was probably the thing that I don't know about surprised me the most, but the most encouraging take away I have from yesterday. Obviously, the resilience and everything like that. Right. This defensive line pressured cousins. They helped keep down and cooking check who is considered one of the best running backs in the game, And that was a tall task..

"They signed no expense who had played with saints and I get it. You know, it was a backup, basically with the Buccaneers and that stuff, but Certainly certainly not the level of Josephus. I, um and that's not going to fill the boy. That's just a deep roster spot there, please. So maybe one of the other guys steps up. Or maybe you know, we get some good news with the side coming back. And, you know, maybe it's not as bad as we thought. They do a little arthroscopic and I don't know. Um What's the timeline on that with the best case in there for his return is what Yeah, I would probably say and again, I'm this goes without saying right, But I'm not a doctor. So who knows? Robert's a couple months, Probably like best cases. They go in there and it's not nearly as bad. As they thought, so he's still going to games and I would say significant time But if you get him back after the bond or something like that, that one you know you can make news, so to speak, especially with some of these guys and the other thing is outside of us. I knock on wood. They stayed relatively healthy Mhm hamstring here and there, But overall, it looks like everybody, you know, Set the ghost. Hopefully, they can stay that way. And once upon a time, Scott no expense with a second round pick 39th overall in 2016, so maybe you have a little juice. In that addressing department because they need it. They need someone to emerge. And obviously he worked out for them last week, and they liked what they saw. So maybe it'll be him. James Rippin from Sports Illustrated at all. Bengals dot com. Talking about preseason game number two. The injury Josephus I he could be done for the season could be back in a few weeks. Meniscus injury will find out on Wednesday, probably At the earliest. What his status is, It would be a shame because it's such a great game against Tom Brady in Tampa Bay in week one. Um All right. So let's look at the other. My, I thought the the defense Man, I'll tell you what. I'm pleasantly surprised over the first two games. I mean, you're talking about number ones number ones that Two precincts in games that the first string defense didn't allow any points. That's incredible. It is. It's really, uh, a good showing a good start, and it's good to see that what we've seen in practice has translated to the games. And it's not just The offensive line is bad or burrow struggling or chase is still trying to find his way and I'm sure we'll get all that. But it's all the difference might be better than we thought they might be pretty good. And I think the secondary is what I've been most surprised about. I'm good to obey and Rougier has been. I mean, he's he's been great against his. He's really challenging him in practice, and then you see him on the deep all the other night against Terry MMA corn, and he makes a great play and maybe should have intercepted it. And when you have a secondary would be some Vonn, Bell and Haiti. You feel good about those two spots. At the cornerback sees veterans but I've never played it down together and a regular season game. They look like they're instinct. Trae Waynes On one side. We're hearing the other side and then my killed them. So if the secondary Can be what they've been so far. Plus the you know they get just a little pressure off the edge, a little pressure up the middle. I think the defense could surprise some people. In fact, they don't need them to be a top eight defense and they're the 16th best defense in the NFL and the Bengals, I think would take that because that's going to give them uh, a real chance to win a lot of their games on their schedule this year. I hope Chitty Chitty be a woozy has a break. I hope he has a an incredible pro bowler year. You know why Why? I just want to hear segment have to say his name in sport Cheddar Bay woozy. I just want to hear. I want to hear him. Just absolutely butcher that guy's name. He's going to have to say his name. I think I think he's going to have an interception or two this year. And if he does that that would be the best name. Uh, activity, Judge Chia Pet or Gesture chamber. Well, let me say, and he caught any intercepted it. It's unbelievable. Unbelievable. Thank you. Better start practicing it now, Scott. Thanks. Yeah, I did. Um, All right. So first, let's switch the offensive side of the ball. James rippin. Um, yeah, Obviously, Brandon al is a huge step down from Joe Burrow. And you look at some of the throws he made as much as I said the game yesterday. And like he did not look all that great. Um, so let's keep Joe healthy for one, the offensive line. That's where the key issue is here. No sacks allowed. So that's a good thing. If you're Joe burrow with a bad knee or a recovering the I guess I should say Yeah. Yeah, I think it is a good sign. So that's the positive and I'm glad you started with the positive. The sort of bad news is we don't know who's going to play guard. The other bad news is, we still haven't seen try Hopkins get a snap, even though he's expected to be the opening day center. You know, coming off that tornado, So I think there are still some concerns there. Yeah, I think they're deeper in the offensive line room this year. Not where I would want to be necessarily. I still think their body is too short. But But overall, I think that The offensive line should be much improved compared to last season. Not last season was awful. So when you compare awful, are they right? Don't know. I still I still kind of think they might be a little bit below average. They have to competent tackles. I don't worry about those two planets. If they can figure out guard and they're trying to. I think we'll know what will happen, though. After the Miami game right there, they're going to end up starting week one and and so we'll see there, but yeah, to me. I wish they would have gone out in free agency. One more veteran guard can't proven that you can just plug in at one of those guys. But yes, if Much like edge rusher. If one of these guys emerges, I think you know Quentin, Spain. They feel comfortable within that left art. If one of these guys emerges at right guard, and maybe that Beyonce, Matthew Jackson, Carmen, you know two rookies that have flashed at times, specifically Smith this preseason er You know, Maybe it is a guy like Michael Jordan, who remade his body. And if not, then we'll go with a veteran like failures to appear blue and he's been okay. And if you take okay compared to what you had last year and Right. Not allowing any sacks is good, especially when Burrow gets back here because once borough it's back there. He's more of a playmaker them here in an hour more of a playmaker than these quarterbacks that you're protecting now. I think that the the offense of the whole be able to run through him a bit more. That'll make Vice a little bit easier on this offensive line. Alright, James, As far as Jamaar Chase goes, I saw he dropped a couple passes. Um all right. There are a few Targets he had where Brandon Allen was just it was miserable was and he wasn't going to catch it. The passes off target, but he dropped those first couple balls. Um, I wouldn't say it cause for panic or concern. It's only two catches, but he's got some work to do. Tighten his game up a little bit. No doubt about it. No doubt and in this is kind of what I've been banking on over the past couple days and saying to people that are concerned because I did it. Look, the fifth overall pick those out there and it seems like a routine catch and drops it. You know the drop Another job, potentially and one he hasn't caught passes from Brandon Island. But let's just take that out. But he really had a new practice is always thorough. But let's just take that out in the timing part of it out. You still expect them to capture those bombs. The good news is from Archie's isn't one of those guys that's going to You know, Shoulders are going to slump or anything like that, Like I walked in yesterday, and he had a couple drops during team period, so he's struggling right now He's fighting it a little bit. But after practice he was fighting it by Working on his game, and I think that's the thing is. Look, he took a year off about, you know? Yeah, And I think he's adjusting. Provide fair enough. We put that And so I think he's going to keep working until he gets it right And that's what you want to bank on right. These rookies putting in the time it feels like he is willing to put in the time he's out there after every practice, So I think he's going to get it right. It may take a little time. But your bank on hard workers right and he's certainly someone that's willing to put in the We're pretty happy in the closing seconds here, James subpoena watching this team Generally speaking, you know, lot has been made. The off season will have finished and you look at the schedule like everyone doesn't make these predictions that never come true about how they're going to finish..

"Can you smell it? We've got one week left one preseason game left. And then it is. Showtime. Bengals dropped one Friday night. 17 13 to Washington But again preseason game number two. Who cares? But there's a lot going on with the Bengals, and not all of it is good. By the way. James Turpin is here, he writes for and follows the Bangles for Sports Illustrated all Bengals dot com. Also the lockdown Bengals podcast, James Welcome back his life. Life is good, Scott. It's It's busy. Busy, which I'm never going to complain about. How are you? I'm fine. I'm pawn 11 question this weekend before we get to the football star. Well, maybe two. I wonder how the red legs now look to be a playoff team. Do you think they advanced this year? That may question we got about a month of baseball love, so we'll see what happens. But it's good to see the Reds in a wild card spot right now, Um, number two is and I need your take on this because when I think of sports guys who have A solid opinion about fashion and style. I think number one Dan Horde number two, I think, James repeat and James Rippin. The question is this The Western and southern tennis tournament held, of course, the grand pageant this last couple weeks at the Western and Southern Tennis Center, the Linder Family Tennis Center, and Mason and the winner is awarded a Rookwood Pottery trophy, and I saw the winner yesterday, holding up the Rookwood generally work, broken offense to look what they do Wonderful work. They have beautiful stuff. But that is about the ugliest trophy in sports is the is the trophy they handed out yesterday tennis, one of the ugliest trophy in the history of sports. Well, by the sound of it. Yes. Oh, you haven't seen it. I got to be honest. Yeah, I got to be honest with you. I have not seen it. I've been so wrapped up in Bangles free season in camp. I haven't seen it. So now I'm going to have to Google it here While we're talking honest to God. It looks like they picked that up at a flea market. Man. Okay, I'm gonna have to check it out. Right now. It looks like a and it looks like it's it's so to describe it. It's this big white, um, ceramic trophy with flowers on the Brookwood looking flowers on the side. I mean, beautiful pieces. Just it's honest to God. It looks like something your grandmother have said. I wonder if the ashes of last year's winner are in it looks like an urn. Yeah, Yeah, yeah. You know what? Yes, absolutely. If you win the tournament, What happens is you're you're cremated. Then they put your ashes in for next year's winner. Now that's a commitment. That's right. Maybe maybe the the prize is you get to smash it with, you know, you know the breakable rooms. Where in the hell in your house. Are you going to? But that's why trophies are silver or gold or they, you know the crystal that goes with everything. That's right. That's right. Yeah, that I don't hear. That would go in my house. Scott, I gotta be honest with you. Yeah, no disrespect. Rookwood is wonderful. I love rock word stuff we got. We got a couple of things in our house from From awkward, but but this is they may want to rethink the trophy. Um, it just doesn't go well, anyway. James is here not to talk about the interior decor, but rather NFL football. All right, so the Bengals got through and I think there's a lot. I watched the game yesterday. Um, you had a chance to finally sit down and watch some games. And I thought the defense looked pretty good offense had some issues. But the big story this morning is Joseph aside. The third round pick out of Texas who last week was was just a baller, right? He sacked Tom Brady Me first. Literally in the first series. He sacks Tom Brady of your That's a great way to start a pro career. I think he had, like three tackles and five pressures all good. He may be out for the season where the meniscus injury. What's the latest? Yeah, the sound of it and I have heard from it yesterday. I think that's more. Let's wait until Joseph had surgery. The doctors can get in there. Look at the meniscus and see What the timeline is because there is a chance that they go in and they're like, Oh, it's not as mad as we've experienced. And he can come back to this season. Maybe later. And so I think that's why they're being so cool. Why you're not giving us any details about it, But yes, Tom Palestra reported it. There's no reason not to trust what Palace Arrow reported, and it's a big loss for this defense and not because just because he flashed and obviously he did against Tom Brady in the Buccaneers in his debut. But the Bengals from an edge rushing standpoint, we're banking on Joseph O side to have a pretty big role this year, and they assigned Trey Hendrickson and they keep Sam Hubbard and extend him long term, But they needed a third guy, and it looked like that was going to be the third guy, this kind of uber athletes that was good against the run. Had the athleticism and quickness to be a real presence on the edge. As far as the pass rushing standpoint, and now you lose that. And I don't know where you're going to make that up. I don't think necessarily can sample the fourth rounder is ready to do that. He's more of a guy is going to play outside at the end. What about that? What about Darius Hodge? Yeah, And I think a lot of fans like Hajj and obviously his chances of making the roster has gone up and he's been productive. But if he just because he's flash just a little bit, And you know in the preseason specifically in week one like last week, he had a pressure last Friday. He had a precedent Washington but he was unblocked so he should get to the quarterback there. I do think that this is a big week for him, And maybe he brings that. But I can't bank on an undrafted rookie to bring that. So I think the Bengals they're going to have to hope that Trey Hendrickson isn't by the way, Hendrickson has looked goodness preseason. They have to hope that he is. What they paid him to be. Which is a force on the edge. And if he is that it might not be too bad. And then again, like I said, the other thing is that you're different, terrifying. And yeah, I hope so, too, because they went. Yeah..

"They're not going up against defensive lineman. But I agree with you there Thinking on friend Polito have a huge impact on this offensive line room and not just with Guys like Jackson Carmen, but with existing players, but probably didn't get coached the way they should have. America. Fred Johnson, Michael Jewelers, Makeem a dented gee guys that you have. They probably don't project the starters. My second stringers that very well could end up getting significant playing time based on what we've seen from an injury standpoint for the Bengals over the past couple of years, So if Frank Polich and coach some of these guys up And maybe this offensive line can be not only competent because I do think they have a at least average starting line. The backups can be good enough to where if you lose one or two guys, it isn't the end of the world. You have a revolving door at one of the spots ahead of silver, which has been the nightmare of course last season and in before James Rippin, Sports Illustrated all Bangles calm and locked on Bengals podcast. He was no Tia's Yesterday outside Paul Brown Stadium, the practice field Beautiful day to practice Maybe a little a little warm for the for the big boys, but Nonetheless, we'll take it right and jobar look pretty good yesterday. Um, it's good to see him run around. It's six months in on a reconstructed knee. And, of course, you had the ad Jamaar Chase in the mix, too, as well. It's fun to watch one of the other things too. Here is no controversy, right? We heard a lot about this in the offseason, James about Jack Taylor and the the That the temperament and the condition inside the locker room and you know what? Yesterday everybody shows up anyone who is and 100% healthy At this point, everyone was there to show Proteus. What's that say about this controversy and Zach Taylor? I think it says, and I don't want to take away from from Taylor. But I think that's a a player driven type of thing. It's really hard right now, with the NFLPA in the NFL and everything that's going on for Coaches to drive that. And I think that comes more from Jesse Bates on defense. Who's now the NFLPA representative for the Bangles. Now that you know Atkins is no longer on the roster. You know Jesse Bates calls you and you're my killed are your Trae Waynes? You want to come in? Because you don't want to let let your teammates down, especially if you just signed Ah, contract in the off season and in base is one of the best safeties in the league and then flip it. If you're odd on tape or your Mike Thomas or insert whatever. Player on offense, Riley Reef in job Earl calls and says, Hey, I wanna I wanna work out. I want you to hear my cadence I want to throw to you Well, heck, man, you might as well get in there, and I think it it is crucial, though, for the for their success, I think Two. Have these type of practices where? Yeah, it's just Glorified walk too. Like I said a special Tuesday and he was, you know, it was a lot of one on one stuff, but They didn't get any of that last year, Joe Burrow that was his first. Okay, practice ever because it was all on zoom last season, and if they're going to take a couple steps forward. The Browns aren't doing this right now because they're veterans are working out on their own. And so you need every advantage that you can have against any relief teams in the league, especially developing new faces all this roster turnover that you've had And so I do think it says something about the players and certainly Zack and the coaching staff that they were all able to show up all willing to, and even the guys that couldn't participate due to injuries. Trey Hopkins DJ reader as they react They were on the rehab field, working out in that heat that you mentioned. It's not like they were just standing on the sidelines. So it was certainly good to see that and Plate set the tone for the rest of the off season. Well, how straight Hopkins come along, because I mean, that's critical right there. He's gonna be your starting center, but he's got to get cleared before they started the season. What's his condition? He looks pretty good yesterday. We didn't get to see him. You know up close because again, he was just doing rehab. But, uh, it's to me. I think that dicey. I'm sure his his goal is to get Cleared by week one. And that would be great. If not, we're probably talking about Billy Price starting week one at center. Um, but it's tough because he wore it. In week 17 against the Ravens like that was that was in January. I mean, that's two month last month after a borough. I don't know how long it took him to get surgery. I would assume at least a month. You need that that swelling to go down or at least three weeks. And so we'll see. But he was running. He was doing some Heidi's. He was doing things like that, but he was off in the distance. That was hard to tell. But I think his goal is certainly to be cleared for week one. That might be realistic will see. I haven't talked to the doctors about him that much. It's been burned central on on. And as you know, all right, James, I'll let you go. But I appreciate the time is always James. Writing about the bends all Bengals dot com hashtag all Bangles. For Sports Illustrated. Of course.

"Of Bangles nation came crashing down simultaneously. Job, bro hitting the turf after catastrophic the injury back in week, 11 and here we are now, some six months later, I think exactly six months later to the day a couple days from now. We got o th of PBS. They kicked off yesterday. Burrow in that left knee brace taken staffs of the shotgun. Obviously, no drop. ACS is not gonna roll out anything like that. But, um, thrown some passes to teammates, including former L s u teammate Jamaar Chase. That's gotta be good to see covering it for all Bangles dot com and Sports Illustrated and locked on Bendel's podcast. Is the artist formerly known here at ESPN. 15 30. Is James repeating James. Good morning. I do, brother. I'm doing Well, Scott, how are you? I'm doing fine. You know, as I watched like everyone else, the players walking from Paul Brown Stadium of the practice field, I thought I hope to God. Joe Burrow doesn't get hit by a car while he's crossing the street to go to the practice field. No, no, thank God. Yeah, exactly. Well, the Cincinnati police department has a good job. No cars get anywhere in here. Have your body crossing the street. Good that that's good. That's good. I thought because make it I don't think any other NFL feels right. You were you walk from the stadium to the practice field, but nonetheless. Maybe that's kind of a cool thing here. And since I don't know s O you know again, It's just day one. He did some light workers, and I think he threatening 20 more than probably 20 or 30 yards down the field, right, just some loose their own and stuff like that. Um, I know in the postgame, he said he feels like he's maybe 85%. So what's the timetable here for Joe Burrow? Um, what do we think he's gonna be cleared for contact, and that's gonna give us a good idea if he's gonna be ready for week one or possibly even camp. Think yesterday was such a good Deaf in the right direction, seeing him Step on his knee playing on me. We saw him ride the bike. I saw Jocke. I saw him do high. He's he's stretched with both legs in positions that Yes, you're fully healthy. You can probably do especially if you're a professional athlete. But you wonder because they cl if he would do that with that big brace on and he did it, And so I was pretty encouraged by it, and I would not be shocked at all. If he's cleared for contact for training camp. I think that that's probably Well, in fact, I know that's his goal. Now that doesn't mean he's going to be taking hits and going out there and playing in preseason games. Obviously, he's never going to take kids and training camp regardless during practice. But so so preseason to be determined, but I think right now There's at least a realistic chance that we could see, Bro either cleared for the start of camp shortly thereafter, which is obviously a huge win, considering that still a month plus out when you talk about the start of camp versus week one in the start of the 2021 season. Yeah, um, I know he's done a lot of work in the offseason. Joe Burrow has rehabbing the knee, but also physically no. He went toe, some specialty camps and gyms and stuff like that. Does he look physically? I thought you looked Stronger, bigger. Um And certainly in shape. You know, it's not like he's missing. Anything or there was any any noticeable difference with them. I In fact, if he would have shed the knee brace, and obviously you don't want him to do that. We're gonna be seeing him and probably different need braces over the next few weeks if he tries to find the one the lights because it's bulky and it stinks to play and people when you're not used to it. But if he would have not warn that I'm not sure any of us and we cover the team would have noticed much of a difference in Borough, but obviously we knew coming off of an injury. We're paying attention to So that me and you got that big brace. And so it makes it a little more obvious, but from a physical standpoint, look fine. You mentioned throwing 20 plus yards. He did throw a couple He points towards the end of practice. And one thing that I thought was cool. And it kind of gives you an idea that he's cleared. Oppose many times as you want. He stayed after practice and through Pridgen Mark Chase, so it's not like he's on the pitch count or anything like that. I think physically, he's just working extremely hard right now to build strength in that me and everything else from a physical standpoint is is up to par and where he wanted to be in the states of the offseason. How do they think that timing is coming along with with Jamaar? How'd he look? Hey, he was a little inconsistent, and I think it was just practice one. I wrote about this that probably 3 to 4 drops, but I noticed And it's nothing worse. Um, being worried about it? It's the first time out, you know, they're just they're like they're going out like 20% right in. That's the thing is, it was like walk through speed for the receiver, so it's not like he's going up against defensive back. It's not like you, you could turn the competitive Uh, truth is all the way on because It's really like a glorified walk through hell you no one would really hesitate. If you know if he missed a couple passes during a Friday walkthrough. Well, that was kind of that the case for the receivers. At least it's not like they were doing. Crazy, fast, hard drills all day, so other than it's probably like slowing. You know, you're trying to slow your swing speed down and golf. It's gonna mess you up, but they're used to go and there you have to go to 200% it just burning and catching the ball. I guess you know you're walking it through. It's probably little bit harder with your timing. Yeah, Absolutely. But I will say this And this is a receiver recorder Has tea Higgins on. He's a big body. Tomorrow. Looks big. You know, big legs, explosive fast, So you could see that that was on display. And obviously those air some big trades and partially why the Bangles will come with a 56. How excited are you saying? I'm like, Like everyone else and Bangles country, James Rippin. Yeah, I mean, think about that, right? You got tea, Higgins. Um, you've got no reason. Why why he shouldn't be taking a step forward this year, too. Waterboard his boy is, you know, this would be what 2000 yard seasons. So I don't see a reason why that would change this year and then you edge Amar Chase to the mix. This is gonna be fun to watch. It should be a kind of fun because Defense is they're going to have to pick and choose what they do. Are we going to double Jamaar Chase? And initially they probably won't right. And I wouldn't. I wouldn't make him make a BU Bomb Minnesota But you know, we corn at the same time. I think he's capable of doing that week one. And so if he does, then we, too should be doubled tomorrow. Well, then it could be T. Hagen's week. And once the two outside guys, they're getting all of the attention. And maybe even before that, Guess what has a Boyd Isa slot machine and he gets open? Really, regardless of who's guarding of it seems like Yeah, I agree. I think that this offense Could be extremely extremely dangerous and it's going to give him we've talked about the I've talked to you a lot about Jack Taylor. It gives him a chance to really show off. What you could do with an offensive mind. You have your quarterback. You have these weapons you have Joe Mixon, who was a full participant in practice. Go out there now and averaged 28 or 30 points again. And if they do that, not only will they be fun to watch. I think they could surprise some people. I think the one to watch normally you don't do this right is okay. The offense is gonna be spectacular. There's no reason they shouldn't be with those weapons that they have. Plus your borough throwing the passes. Um, healthy Joe Mixon his return, but I think the scrutiny obviously is going to be on what Frank Polich does with guys. You got Hendrickson and there, you got rightly reef in there. You got a handful of draft picks on dis revamped online and see how they work out. Yeah, it is. It's one of those things, especially during a T h. A lot of people are gonna want to hear about the offensive line and it's really not much you can say you can say all well. Yeah, Jackson. Carmen wasn't with the ones but we don't know what the ones are necessarily going to be if we could do not in full pass..

"One I Heart radio goes one on one with Brad Paisley to weigh the pros and cons of opening or closing the show. George Jones and Conway Twitty used to fight about that. They've gotten older and they're on tour together. And they had. There was a tour for a while. That was Conway Twitty, George Jones of in scale, and Vince was always in the middle. And what was this was like I shouldn't be closing. I shouldn't be after either of you and they would they would fight and flip coins. Who could go first so they could go home. It was hilarious that I'm not to that point. I like closing. I'm not in any hurry. It was funny, though, to see Scotty McCreery at the festival, and I got together with him that day and said, Hey, we come sing celebrity during my show he did. Idea of his pajamas. I was sorely And he came out of the bus. And he said, You know, he talks. He was like, No, No, I gotta tell you, I really thought I'd be a lot longer for closing. But all right, keep listening to my heart radio for more Brad Paisley and all your favorite artists. Back with Eddie and Rocky, so rock to did. This is a weird story. If you haven't heard this yet, did the Bangles step in. It is this kind of just a tease what they were doing. I have no idea what anybody I don't know if it was something they kind of purposely teas and put out there to get everybody talking order. Were they trying to keep it under wraps? And it just got out because someone saw something on camera. I don't know. But potentially the word is that maybe there is a finely possibly a ring of honor coming. To Paul Brown Stadium with some more information on this is the one ring like James Rippin formally here of 700 wlw now is a writer for Sports Illustrated also has a great follow on Twitter at all. Bangles. James, How are you, Buddy? The tough guys that were doing doing good. So so, yeah. What do you What have you hearing about this potential ring of honor had this come out? What do you what? You're hearing? It was random, right? I think first. What if I had to guess I would say this was a big group. But that's okay. Because I probably with a new as the things he had the Iraqi, right. Good. Yeah, it was, uh, it was probably the case on social media yesterday, but the good news is If I think last year after Ken Miley past, obviously, that's not good news. But the good news After that, I think that the thing that came from that is I think the organization really realized They needed to celebrate their past and celebrate that There was a lot of People writing. I know I wrote about it. Heck, I had a mythological ring of honor where I inducted 13 different candidates that I think should a former players that should be in it already. I think that that probably opened up some eyes that Paul Brown Stadium and they probably started it then. And you know, over the past year or so they've been able T do things right and they want to unveil it and those names all three of those guys that we saw those guys should be a part of the inaugural class. So Hopefully, it's the case. Hopefully, this isn't just false hope, and I don't think it is. I think that this is just a sign of things to come. It's a really smart move. I think, considering what one How long have they needed this But to fans are gonna be back in the stands. Hopefully next the start of the 2021 season and that's just one of the many ways you can excite a fan base that hasn't had a lot to be excited about over the past five seasons. James R. P in is our guests and James and let me add because this has been going on and on. We've all kicked it around and heard this and that and the other, But basically what does it boil down to the reason that Mike Brown ways the Brown family thought this through Because it just seems like you said, I think I've read the article that was in the Enquirer, and I forget how many teams it's like 27 teams I want to say have rings of honor. Why was this never a concern or Ah, consideration. I think it's just part of the organizational philosophy that they've had since, frankly, 60 years when they were founded in Part of the reason why numbers aren't retired right and said he was able to win. Where can Anderson's number 14, and that's just part of what it is right? And you know 85, For example, Pete Higgins. He asked for missing Chad Johnson for missing last year after the death of where that 85, but he certainly didn't need it. He could have just done it anyway. Right, so that's That could help these blue things. But you've seen the pivot. You've seen a president. The social media. They're graphics, just everything the way they Gonna carry themselves and presented themselves as an organization. I'd say over the past year, so has changed and I think that was Really? What happened, right? I mean, it was a funny joke. You know, we can't wait for September. Here's a look at our our stadium covered in snow, and it was one of the many good tweets that have come out of that account, And unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, they may have Accidentally slipped up from news Now the Bangles commented on this and they said they're going to comment or anything. Nothing yet. I haven't received anything. I would assume I would assume that something that you could. Honestly I think the next thing and maybe I'm dead wrong about this. I'm speculating. I think the next thing would be uniforms. And I would wait until early ical. When the draft board is really picking up. You do uniforms. Then you have the draft. People are excited about the rookies. And then you can announce. You know the ring of honor from girl? Maybe it may Two people really start the think about potentially buying season tickets and who knows the code and maybe to be more cleared up. You know that stuff? And so that's just another way to get fans excited, but I think they might..

"Berries were going all the way until six. Alex Frank is today's producer, and we're coming out of the gate. Strong talking NFL, The Bangles. The draft and all three subjects are in my first guests. Wheelhouse. He covers the Bangles for Sports Illustrated. Check him out at all. Bangles dot com. Welcome back to 700 wlw radio. My former partner in crime, James Ropy, James, how we doing? Check. I'm doing well, my man. How are you? Fantastic, man. Great to hear your voice and James, no matter where I go, whether I'm teaching ref in or dumping all I could ask is the same question. Who are the Bangles going to draft? So I yield to you find sir, with this loaded question. The fifth pick in the 2021 NFL draft on April 29. The Bengals Select Oh, right now That's the million dollar question, right? That's what it is, Man. They have a lot of good options, but I would say, um, with the fifth pick, you look at this draft. Probably an offensive player that top tackle on their board. You know, top offensive player on the board could be attack on Penny tool. I could see it from our chase, but as much as we've talked about them over the past month And I think I've made it pretty clear. I'm on that Jamaar Chief. Ben wasn't especially Daniel. Back on our luck, yeah. Almost next month of January, 31st almost next month when in March when free agency kicks off. If they can address the offensive line and adding a guy like trees would be great, But I got the more and more I look at this. A lot of analysts think they're gonna be three quarterbacks in the top four picks. Look, this quarterback class might be good, and several ones might be better than any, including Bo of the prospects quarterback lives that were taken in last year's stuff. Look at where those guys went. Borough first to 1/5 Herbert Sixth, and those guys were great players. Herbert went to the Senior Bowl and showed everyone what he could do right and in The fact that quarterbacks fell. I wouldn't be shocked at all of school, and she's gone by the time the Bangles pick fifth, So if that's the case, maybe it's divide the Smith from Alabama. We all know him the 2020 eyes and trophy winner. Help. It's is a really intriguing passed up the tight end out of Florida and then obviously other than Penny. So there's another tackle. Go, Shawn, slated out of Northwestern at the Bangles will certainly take a really, really close. Look at so if I had to pick sides of the ball, I would say offense. There's a lot of options and turning downs. Also a possibility. Obviously, with the fifth pick, James It's so interesting to see where these quarterbacks we're going to go. You know, Justin Fields, guys we know Forever. Lawrence Man, He's He's probably number one overall. But Justin Fields, Zach Wilson was unbelievable in his bowl game, and the dude can run, you can pass. He's he's accurate. I really like him. Hey, could be the Daniel Jones of this draft. Sure I would be shocked at all. I know a lot of people especially listening right now, Right? We've watched dressed in fields and watched and develop over the past couple of seasons. Obviously that deployments against Clemson was amazing, but I wouldn't be shocked it off Wilson of the second quarterback taken in this draft and jets, obviously, with the second pick between that a lot of people are looking at. If you're the Jets are we heard back Wilson or Justin Fields is better than Sam Dialed, like Are we sure and said that to me, That's a sneaky destination for coming store right on. Obviously, everything can use a tackle, and I know they drafted a tackle Ash in my car back and out of Louisville. The school down there. Nice got bookend tackles. You got a quarter on rookie contracts, which matters and conned. By the way we talked about quarterback rookie deals, tackle deals in the rookie contract matters a lot and you got a guy in San Donald, who they feel. Is potentially a franchise quarterback, so I think that that could impact it as well. But but it is a good quarterback class in two other guys, Obviously that we didn't watch is much of You know how much he did with without them. Obviously Max Jones and his one year with the Crimson Tide, the questions are with him is one season. It's kind of like the job burro thing to a degree that night. I think it's clear burrows and much better prospect. He had everything around him and Alabama, right? Heisman Trophy went off the things that he go in the first round. I still think he might because of, you know the desperation that some of these teams, um are and how best that they are to the land of franchise quarterback and then the other guys trail and Lot that out after just one game guy who could end up being in the top 10 how to North Dakota State, and he's another guy that really watch because I certainly think he's a first round pick and you wonder where he's gonna end up. James repeats with us from Sports Illustrated. All Bangles calm. You could follow him on Twitter at James Rippin. And, Of course, James. Everything you know, dealing with the draft hinges on free agency. And But then you look it the number of times that job Earl was pressured and then the percentage of times he was sacked with those pressures manages boggles your mind. They've got to keep him upright. It's so critical and with Frank Polich coming back to the Bangles is the offensive line coach. Uh, yeah. Getting that offensive line really straightened out and then adding a quality wide receiver. You know, with the departure here of AJ Green, very, very important. No doubt. No doubt. I think that that's like if I had to pick one area where they just had to address it, And this is Mrs Payne was very property pick, but Last year, they spent four of their seven draft picks on the sense most of the money they spent in free agency. Move on defense. I get it that didn't translate to the league best defense and I'm not saying you don't exactly it's on offense and use all your money on offense. Man, can you? Can you get nine from help? Yes, there's so many, like nationally, people. That that I think assume dressed in Herbert's just better than Joe Burrow because he put up the flashy numbers and you're throwing the deep ball in all of these things..

"They pass it. Sorry, kill, but When the ball game that way. That's Andy Reid, how you could not be ready for any of that stuff unless been on Chad Henny, Rushing for the 13 yards was like what you guys the Browns looked like they needed back to back time outs to get it together. Yeah, And that's those are the growing pains, right? Yeah, right. First your head coach and you have you have a team that hasn't been there much and you wonder when that's gonna happen. And for your personally I am rooting for the bills. I'd love to see it. I want the bills. And Tom Brady to play each other in Tampa Bay and Super Bowl. Huge five. That's exactly what I want human interest there with the torch be past. The next generation is past the next Aaron Shore. Will Brady go? You know what We're gonna I'm gonna beat your ass again because I've been doing that for last 20 years it Tampa Bay for all the money on Brady Brady or what? The buffalo. There's no doubt it right? And I was a bill time like Yeah, I totally see this coming. That's what happens. But either that of the entire team before the Super Bowl will come down with Cove. It That's other bills lose. Unfortunately for your bills, and unfortunately for I guess my box because I'm rooting for Tom Brady. I think it's gonna be the battle of Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers. I think it's cream Day versus Kansas. Look at this. If Tom Brady, we're so damn good. Why did it take him over 20 years to get to the NFC Championship there, huh? E. I saw that this week, and it's crazy. Tom Brady has just as many playoff wins over NFC opponent is to breathe. That's when he just got there because you've got the six Super Bowls and then to to enter the playoffs. What are we gonna do when football's over? That's the question Rippin When football's over in the Super Bowl feels like it's like Super Bowls. Awesome, But it's It's more about the other stuff, commercials and maybe not parties. You know what I mean? It's like this feels like football guys football right here. So Sunday's the day of the Games. I want to blow out its okay. You got another one to look. Hold on. It's really gonna make it to come together as it did in 81. We'll be talking about the Bangles next season, when it's when they're in the playoffs because of the new uniforms and Joe Burrow all the best, James go bills. What? Wait. I didn't ask you Who's gonna Who wins the bills like our chiefs of the Seize the teeth one. I'm sorry. Sorry, Scott. But after Super Bowl 55, it's okay. What do we have to talk? About? What? "He may come back for 8 45. That's kind of been the number. He's thrown out there and floated that I want to play some 35. He's gonna be 44 August 3rd. And so Yeah, maybe he went to Super Bowl comes back for one last farewell. Or maybe he goes elsewhere. After two years in Tampa, I wouldn't be shot. By the way, if he tried to really play for his 45 right, which is about 40 45, but but he's still playing Yankee through for 40 touchdowns this year. Like I know some people were down on Brady. He's playing it in a Bruce Arians offense. You're pushing the ball downfield more. I thought he played pretty well this year and they do have a shot. They do. I just think the Green Bay Packers have more talent there. Obviously at home. The cold weather does matter. You're talking about the team as a whole. And most of those sample players haven't played in the cold weather much so I give Green Bay the edge. But personally, I'm rooting for Brady. I want to see history. Is that the last well for him to get back last Haram in British retired Rivers has done so It's this could this could be it away, But you never know mean It's some point. You got to go. Okay. I proved my point. His former teammates It was eliminated with a couple weeks left in the season by by my bills, So that was Robin Salt. No one's We'll get to that. Just a second, But you're right. Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers. Um And how did the but how does Carlton Davis? How did they? How did they disrupt that? But these guys were cut out from Let's put it that way. And and they did in their first match up, but that was in Tampa in week six. It was a paternity, right exactly, And so that's that's the first part of the second part of this is, I think, Drew Brees. He doesn't turn the ball over like he did last week. They were carving up Tampa and in the Jared Cook fumble is what changed the game because the same set of seven point lead they were driving down field. And if he doesn't fumble that ball, you wonder. Hey, man, you're breeze might have a 27 13 lead on Brady going into the fourth quarter, and then that changes everything. So I think that Rogers he's not gonna have the same struggles. And if you're Tampa, you've gotta find a way to get to Rogers and put some pressure on and that may be forced to turn over to. They're capable of doing it. Like you said week six. But it's it's much much much easier said that done especially with the way he's playing, right? Yeah, and as I recall, they played a lot of zone against him. And that seemed to work pretty well against Rogers because he had a couple interceptions again, which is extremely rare. Z headed in. The other thing is and I remember this was a fox broadcasting down looking too. You have some trash to Rogers at the end of the first half. Um well, I I think Rogers is going to remember that so I wouldn't be shocked to see a little trash talk. It's one of which, in the NFC title game, That's exactly what you want to stick and poke the bear, who advances Oh, I think dream betting I could be making a win this game. It's gonna be close. I'm rooting for Brady. But I my my head, says Rogers. Yeah, You know, I like I like Green Bay. Not that you know, the cold weather should affect it. Certainly. Tom prayed your great grand of those guys. But, um, yeah, just something about playing at Lambeau. Haven't haven't been there and walked on the field. Stop is there Um, a few years ago for a game and it was fantastic with man. You could just feel like the ghosts in there. It's really It's just well. I don't know how to describe it. It's just It's awesomely strange s O. That is the three o'clock game, James Rippin. From Sports Illustrated says Green Bay advances. The only question now is who do they play My bills at Kansas City and the question all week has been the health of Patrick my homes, and that has been the number one story thinking the NFL this week on concussion protocol, but we learned that it was Not necessarily concussion, but more of a pinched nerve. When he was when he was hitting that game against the Browns Ugly hit, it looked worse. When I went back. I didn't realize how Awkward. Itwas just awkward. Yeah, and I don't think it was dirty was just ugly and so mackerels and delivers that it obviously the chief's somehow survive. It didn't feel like they were going through what they did with that aggressive play calling. And I think that the key it feels like my Holmes is going to play right. He's been a practicing the past couple of days. The kids. How's that foot? That's the thing. A lot of people aren't really discussing much. How is that toe? He was limping around against Cleveland. I think that's always a bigger concern. I really do. It feels like it because as long as he's cleared, and it feels like he's trending that way, then It's just been me physically. Can he be Patrick loans? Because if he can physically be that, dude, Well, guess, guess who no one wants the plane. I just said a few minutes going around. This is M v p. That's great. That's all well and good, and I think he's playing..

"Slowly here on 700 wlw. Always a good day from black keys. Um, we're down to four. Now. Two games to big games on Sunday, which is awesome, because you're getting like, you know, not not the best the best, but The sad part about it is After this weekend, there's only one game left and then football is over. Off after the winners of these games to the Super Bowl. Two weeks you get 22,000 fans in Tampa Bay this That's what going to 29,500 of the fans will be health care workers so you could get him giving free tickets, which is nice, too. Joining us talk about it is James Rippin and James, of course. With all Bangles at the Sports Illustrated James. I think the big story for us here is not the Tampa and Green Bay and Buffalo in Kansas City, but rather the Bangles new unions because there's one thing I know about the fan base here is, uh, the issues we had last season. With Joe Burrow going down offensive line, You got issues on the edge. You got issues in the secondary issues with receivers and like it's not. It's not any of that stuff because there's no doubt in my mind that the Bangles to be able to figure that out In short order here, the biggest concern for anyone who's a Bengal fan number one has got to be the uniforms. That's what I thought. What happened his last season? What? God, You know what we need if we just had new uniforms That's really going to go a long way. Your thoughts? I actually I actually think it was on the list of fans concerns they will all but I obviously it might not have been at the top of the list that you mentioned step. There's plenty of issues that they have to address. I know you can come on your show and beat up other teams. But how dare you speak ill of the Bangles? But no, I think it's a long time coming. I mean, they build those uniforms, and they made tweets but in 2004, and that was Carson second year, his first year starting and so this is the job. Earl Hera shouldn't look like the Andy Dalton nearer the Carson Palmer era. So I am happy that they're redoing the uniforms unveiling new ones, and we'll see what they look like. If you see any of these concepts out there. Yeah, they're pretty cool together some cool stuff That's really cool. It's awesome. I know. Yeah. I mean, you wanna freshen things up there because, Yeah, That's exactly what the Packers did, and they're in the NFC championship game because Beverly was tired of the package uniforms been the same since 18 04. That's right. They it changed. I mean, they might look better than your bills. They might not be better than your bills, but they could look better than your plan. It's classic. It's a close a classic. You know what I look at? Classic is being tired. See Cincinnati. We got the new hip quarterback. We got things are happening in Cincinnati. Um, you know, you new uniforms Just gonna put this team into the stratosphere. Well, they got new uniforms in 81. Look what happened? Yeah, Uniforms and four and five. They won the division and you asked Nine out of 10 Bengals fans number one concern was uniforms. So anyway, we're getting into uniforms, which I'm down with. I think that is a great move myself. You can laugh, James, but I'll tell you what this is. This is Hi. This is the stuff here. So you got well, not the Bangles because you know we're this close. But next year we'll be talking about the Bangles NFC Championship game. Let's start with the NFC. That's the three o'clock game here on 700 Wlw, an on Fox as well to Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tom Brady against What's that guy's name? I've seen him on TV before do is it is it? Is it all state from that is Yeah, That's what is not progressive. That's flow. That's another quarterback. Um, yeah. Aaron Rodgers against Braid. This could be a good game. It is. It is going to be a good game, I think for the second straight week Already has The second best coaching staff in this matchup. Second best roster. It's going. It's tough for me to see the bucks winning this one. Just you're talking about Rogers, who you're gonna be the MVP. He's been the best quarterback this year. And you have the wrong day. Adams, who is clearly the best wide receiver in the league right now, and I think it's It's pretty obvious and then the thing is, is you have those two guys in that reformer who's kind of taken the baton from shopping Day is the the young all sense of minded. Amazing play caller and his scheme has worked really well this year because it hasn't just been Rogers and Adam's. I mean, they can run the ball in Green Bay as well, and that's another part of their offense that I think I'll try to get going. In the cold at Lambeau. So I like the Packers in this match up, Although you know you never can rule Brady out. We know we've seen this so many times, so it should be a good one. We We have right And that's the thing is is, you know Packers? Our favorite bad is just something about Brady that he looked really, really good. Now enough was Drew Brees having one of the worst games of his career. At this point who knows what the future Lives there. We saw what happened with Philip Rivers and that now you suspect that there is a changing of the guard, right? Because, Okay, Here's Tom Brady. If Tom Brady is able to win this game, and let's say he goes and wins the Super Bowl, did he prove his point? Does he leave Aaron Rodgers obviously still top of his game. No worries there, but you see it changing. All right. Ben Roethlisberger, Philip Rivers, Drew Brees. It's a changing of the guard. No doubt there's no doubt about it. We're starting to see the end of the last era. And I think Brady regardless of what happens is back next year. That that might be it. I mean, is he is contract two years of Tampa..

"Who tweets the following University of Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell is a hot name. In NFL circles right now. With the Eagles, seen by many rival executives as a good fit. Luke Fickell NFL Eagles stay tuned. We're talking coaching with Zach Taylor. He's back, and I'm curious of what I sensed was a groundswell of support that has developed for him coming back. Is this season was unfolding. There was there was Let's be honest. There was misery and dread attached to it when Joe went down The The hot button issue was that Taylor's future In this team won two in a row. They win is a decided underdog. What a 13.5 point underdog on Monday night football against the rival Pittsburgh Steelers, playing a third string with their third string quarterback, Then they go on the road. The next week is a decided underdog, 9.5 points, the Houston Texans and when, with a backup quarterback And they get trounced in the final week of the season. They wind up With four wins. My sense, Woz. Unhappiness. More progress needed to be seen. And yet The support he has garnered from the Bengals decision to bring him back makes this a dead heat in the discussion. Whether you agreed with it or did not agree with it. I go back to this and David laid it out. Um, the idea of what can be done in two years versus the patience of a third year, if not more, he was hired late. You remember how late because of the Super Bowl run by the Rams? You remember the story of the coaching staff being assembled in some coaches meeting for the first time in Indianapolis at the combine, That's how far behind they were. Lycee the season number one. What was what was a train wreck. Two wins. Then they draft your burrow and with it comes hope. They went big and free agency 150, plus million dollars, mostly never spent in free agency. Um Brought in a bunch of guys with Winning backgrounds playoff appearances on the resume. And yet it's a covert season. And a rookie quarterback, a rookie quarterback who was who was barking out plays and working on his cadence on Zoom in his parents basement. That's how strange things were. Under new faces, no preseason Once they got into it a ton of injuries. I know, I know. Don't view it as an excuse. It's the reality. Those were injuries. They played for him. They played hard for him. Final game of the season. I don't take his much is packing it in is just they were so behind the eight ball from a talent standpoint. And if you're telling me they need more talent on this team, I'm telling you, I absolutely agree, but I don't think anybody the right mind believe this team was talented enough top to bottom to survive and prosper without burrow and mixing and reader and Wade's and Atkins and use AAMA and by the final game of the season they were working on the 3rd 4th 5th guys on the depth chart. But specifically in the secondary. When this team was clicking during the season, they went through a stretch where they averaged 31 points a game offensively over three games. And we talked about the rhythm that Zach seemingly was in with his play, calling with Joe Add all that up. And that's why you're three for Zach. I'm fine with No, he's gonna have to win in your three. Winning means. Nine wins. That's going to be a significant jump. I don't have to get them to the playoffs. They need to be a winning football team and season number three. And that is incumbent on the front office. Not after walking up to the line of jumping into the deep end of the fridge and pull then feeling a little bit Burn and Sana. Not going to do it again. Tried. It didn't work out. Great guys got hurt didn't really mean a lot in terms of wins and losses were not gonna be that aggressive this year. They have to be more They have to be, as if not more aggressive this year if they do that. If they address the offensive line in free agency and the draft if they are aggressive and upgrading this roster. All roll the dice with his coaching staff, and you're number three. Think yesterday or the announcement over the weekend. The official introduction yesterday is significant for this team. Zack moved off of Jim Turner. He went to Frank Polich. Who's been here and done that they've had success with Joe Burrow led the league in rushing that year. That's where the optimism is. From my standpoint to at least say, show me what you got in your three If you're part of the 52% that says Pass move on. What was it? What is it? I think I've done a pretty good job of laying out the case for your three. Work on some phones. 5137491 7800, the big one and pounds $700.0 Biggles coaching update from James repeated, forgot to mention from all Bangles. James Earl Keen on Twitter at James Rippin reporting the following the Bengals plan to interview former Pro Bowl defensive and Andre Kerger to be their next defensive line. Coach, League sources tell all Bangles today. Carter has been in NFL coach for four seasons Assistant defensive line coach in Miami in 2017 and 2018 before being named the Jets defensive line coach in 2019. He spent the past two seasons with the Jets. That coaching staff is in limbo with Adam gazes firing James Rippin reported the interview expected to take place next week, Carter began his coaching career in 2015 in 2019, He helped the Jets become the most stout. Defense against the run one of the most out, they averaged, allowing just 3.3 yards per carry. From a playing standpoint, he was selected by the 40 Niners seventh Overall, The 2000 and one draft played for Washington and New England and Oakland is well 80.5 sacks in his career. He was a pro bowler in 2015 Bangles have the defensive line position to be filled the assistant defensive line position to be filled they have, according to reports yet confirmed by the team they have promoted from within. To find their wide receivers. Coach. There we go, unnamed to Ah ponder Andre Carter to be interviewed is the next defensive line, coach. I will grab Kevin, I'll grab Marvin, I've got 1234. We got five lines open. Give me somebody who was on each side of the Zach Taylor returning equation..

There's still got to the others on hold will get to you as well, looking back at 2020 the good trying to find some positive Because I'm an optimist. And if not, I would have already. He's Tim McGee, former Bengals wide receiver Does that postgame post game of sports talk Bangles thing, which Chick Ludwig Ill do the final one of this season. Hopefully, there could be three wins in a row. If I mean if they shocked the world for a third time in somehow send the Ravens home losers Sunday afternoon to kick off at one o'clock on 700 wlw Tim McGee, How are you? Thank you so much for making time. It's always good to talk, but especially New Year's Eve in this virtual kind of get together. You know what are what a wonderful time I right now I kind of feel like that person at 12 or one also like that person who believe in the courtroom. After the gavel finally hits and your divorce is officially final. That's what I think of 2020 right now. That's how I think of 2020 right now. All right, It's probably not a bad way. I mean, you gotta look at it somehow, some way. What has surprised you the most You know, I think the devices nous of our country's probably disappointed me and surprised me the most adoring such a tough time instead of us coming together as a country, I think, for the most part We've had so many factions, for whatever reasons are totally different reasons. Reasons. We didn't come together in and beat our arch enemy, which was, which is the covert 19, But you know, but there's a lot to be thankful for two. There's a lot to be thankful for. Some people we, You know, we still want those still have our health and you know it Z. I think I thought it was a miracle how the pharmaceutical world stepped in and, you know, research and development. They Made created this vaccine and they got on top of it. And, you know, in record time to save a lot of lives, so I know we look at the number of lives and when you look out the media Talked about rightfully so all the people that we loved ones that we lost. But, you know, sometimes you gotta look at the glass being half full and in that how many lives have they say that far? I mean the lives that were in massive. How many alive that you know the research and the readiness of people willing to step in there and step up How many lives were saved? Obviously, it's not a number that we can put our finger on. Never left. I think we all understand and know that there was thousands of lives that were saved. Absolutely. Always a good perspective from Tim McGee with sterling on the big one bringing in the new year. Uh, personally, and I don't know how much we'll talk about this, but just say this. I mean, your family, your daughters, your girls now growing grown, Uh, I mean, just amazing things this year. What? We've talked a little bit about in the midst of everything else that's been going on. That has to make you feel good about things generally. You know, Eastern measures, girls, you can measure things on. I could give their resumes that you know, I want my daughters. I've got one. That's been a double master's degree and I got one out in the working world. I got one in medical school at Emory University, and she went to Princeton. What I'm or proud of them for is the fact of what they done for society, not just for themselves how they get back how they you know they take the mission trips and there forever. You know, given their time, their effort, their energy, their minds and trying to help other people who was not has been as fortunate as they have. So, yeah, it's very when you look at their resumes thus far, they've They've done some wonderful things. But like I said, I'm I'm more proud of what they do and what they do in the end what they do for human and mankind and you know that kind of sounds cliche is sometimes but So true when you see your your kids or your loved ones, achieving at a high level based on Let's say whether it's education or job or compensation. But what what's really the measurable is what you're doing in your heart and how you're gifting back, and that's what I'm more probable than anything. I think that's the most reasonable, rational way to look at. It makes all kinds of sense. Um Him. McGee. Looking ahead. What is your most realistic expectation for 2021 personally, whether it's the Bangles, whether it's just you life is we know it in this world. Well, a drink I approach every year. I'd never have those new year's resolutions that that's not me. What I tried to do is live life to its fullest. Uh, because I am so blessed..

I don't even know even asking you about the monolith mighty wall. You you played along in good, fun and good nature. And I wish I thought of the monolith thing. And I could have been getting some more love and attention and affection. Yes. So that was that was pretty funny. Kind of petered out as we all do it What it turned. It turned out to actually not be aliens, which damn it is always Yeah, they were. There was some cool things in space this year. You know, one of the things that pops to mind Is that like now, we have a way we We have the country like we can now launch astronauts to the space station again. You no way. We had to ask, not missions that that were launched in 2020. For the first time since 2011 Since the special we're grounded on those were both by five course like like you mentioned you on Musk is his company's space X did both of them on. So there are fully up and running. Now with this, um with the ability to take astronauts toe Space and bringing back down again. So that's that's really cool. That's definitely one of the highlights of 2020 in space. Anyway, I'd say so. And you have weathered the storm between the brush fires, wildfires, earthquakes, mudslides, pandemic issues and everything else. The family of Mike the wall, well, safe and sound eating. What? I mean, I'd have to sell a kidney and I'm not trying to do that. No, it it is expensive. It's definitely I've been here for 10 years. That's even gotten, like a lot more expensive. Just in those 10 years. Yeah, I did. The sour dough bread, clam chowder stuff like when I first got here, But, yeah, I mean, you get like you get into your routines and you find the place is that That that you like and like there are actually like they're part of the town where you know it's close to like the Boudin factor. You know where they are that for the Big bakery is where they make the most famous. You can walk by in the morning, and it smells like sour Don't it's really delicious. And so I like pride.
