The Rays Eliminate the Yankees In a Heartbreaking Game 5
"Me ask you this e because. In, twenty seventeen, there was this new core coming up right. And the thought was hey. Unexpected Ron made the playoffs one game away from the world series and I remember even the wildcard game against Minnesota that year was like just let this core group get a playoff series under their belt so that they get some experience and can grow with it. You got within one game of the world series one one of the world series it didn't happen. Now, there's a postseason failure in eighteen in one, thousand, nine hundred and get to the brink again, it doesn't happen in twenty losing game five of the LDS. At this point. Does it still if you're part of that group. visit. Still feel like you're ascending or do you start wonder if you've plateaued Now, you deficit they just sending I mean especially, those guys are so young you know what I'm saying like. inexperience in you know in age. So Yeah I. Mean You know going back over that run like seventeen we had to run. With all those young kids in. Out though I didn't I had I, didn't think it was gonna make the playoffs just just because we went to the playoffs in seventeen and everybody had career years we're coming back. You know with a young team I just I was surprised that we made the playoffs gotta ask. about a red sox end. In the next year, I thought nineteen, we were set up to. To to make a great run a debrecen. Obviously, we didn't do that. NFL This year you know is short season everything went on. So just to be able to to get out there and play and compete I think guys are excited. You know excited I mean I think is a lot to build on I. Don't think. I don't think you can up this year with the rest of them just because it was such a short season you don't think any. There's no like wondering are we the you know late nineties braves early two thousand braves where we're going to. We're GONNA get to a certain now they won one in ninety five to be fair to them. But then you know they're winning division after division after division losing to the playoffs losing the playoffs listen to play. Yeah I mean it does that enter the mind of this group at this point. I. Like I'm not in a group anymore so. I can't. Really tell you if they're starting to feel like that or not. You know. I was never I was never in that position I was about to say as a young player would. Myself as when I was young, I always felt like I had time like like August time to do you know what? I'm saying I got time to do, and then like I say, I, always bring up a seven because that was our year like we put it all together and that was a year and didn't happen. So starting panicking. So. You would have to ask the guys individually which year they thought that they were GonNa win in when it doesn't happen that year then you start panicking like shit maybe this this may not have you know hand. Right now all those guys play for the Yankees in they noted that the organization will do whatever they can to try to win auto free agents, auto players, and so no I think that they got time you. and. The reality is the starting rotation. Looked a lot different than what they had set out for because you thought you were going to have Severino James Paxton right behind Garrett Cole and you didn't, and obviously that changes the equation and made you have to use the bullpen differently, etc. Now, I, WanNa talk about coal for a minute see look if there's One Guy. Who acquitted himself beautifully in this Yankees. postseason. It was Garrett Cole I. Mean This Dude was everything they could've asked for he gives up one hit in this game and who knows if it's not for some weird wall overhang that Aaron judge got to familiar with maybe he doesn't even give up any hits in his five and a third innings. He. He really delivered and that you have to feel good about knowing okay. This guy is going to shove exactly the way you want him to this time of year yet. That was great to watch him be able to go out before. As that I know he wants you know what I'm saying. So it'll be good not this time next year everything rolling around you'll be fans in the stands and. Hopefully. We can have that Yankee Stadium proxy magic, and. Readiness. All the way to to we're supposed to be, which is a berated. I. What about pitching on three days Resi. What feels different like do you notice like all my arm isn't as strong I mean what? What what makes it a more difficult challenge when you're not pitching on your normal rush when you're pitching on short rest, it's not necessarily like your are being source. It's like everything else like little aches Oh you know you know you didn't get your. Your full arrest so you can't really overthrow You know watching that I felt like he was trying to give his normal effort their first ending everything was up. You know he was all kind of all over the place. Any just kinda settled in you know what I'm saying he gave us time you take a little longer than than usual and. He kinda settled into the game was able to find this delivery. That's the one thing about picking three days you have to find your delivery like. Were percent. Can you pitch at whether that? Sixty, five, percent seventy, five, percent, eighty, five percent. You know what I'm saying like you have to find that was going to make you be able to strikes in and be effective. So if it seems like you've found that right at the right time, you got to strike out and you know he kinda he kinda sail from after that I mean you have to Solo homer to tomatoes and then you know almost today what's that guy's name? You say his name well over process l. no the guy run our arousal arise arena Larussa Rhody. Almost curveball out but other than that. You know he pitched great. So yeah like you said I mean he delivered and and you know going forward that he'll be able to to to pitch in these situations you know several be able to pitch any situation. We saw what money can do to two nights ago. Yeah. Your boy came man Monte the Frazier Bryant Man, these guys these guys are in a good spot. So like I said nobody I don't think anybody in their Hispanic and not player. Wise. Anyway, you know that that's is the fans in the front office and stuff. You are the master of pitching on three days Resi and because of that even though it has a little less punch because the Yankees lost this game compared to what it would have been if the Yankees won this game. I want explore that a little bit further with you because you you did it a lot. I mean the way you did it in. Milwaukee with multiple starts down the stretch over and over again as you were just in Bistro and then we saw it in the nine playoffs as well where you did it the entire Oh nine playoffs and delivered you did it in game one and four of the AL CS is at it again in Games one and four the world series. What kind of advice did you offer Garrett Cole as he was getting ready to do it for the first time in his career as someone who did a lot and did it in big stages? You know what I didn't and I was watching the first thing that I was like man Fuck I should've called. You know what I'm saying. But I didn't he's he gates. He's he he figured it out on his own. You know what? I'm saying, I don't need to call bad like he'll call me if he did something. Yeah so I don't I don't want to bother him. I don't WanNa call him I know how he is. You know know the days before you know the day of leading up to historic. So you know I I don't want to call him but please believe I'll facetime mining when I figured out that he was making start. Well whatever you told Monte in the face time, it worked out really pitch well and game four and I was encouraged. You know see if we go through this game, there's not there's not a lot to nitpick and say, okay, this could have been done differently. This could have been done differently. We've just lost a game and. You just lost a baseball game to. All the time where we go to Tampa or we we play apple you know what I'm saying. So that's why I was so scared to play them in the playoff series because. That's the one team that I know that can fucking Peterson the series and they know it too. Yep Yet one hundred percent. It's how I felt last year too when they were playing the Astros and people like Oh we want the race I was like the race competing in the. Last. Year to we would have been counted the same. You know what I'm saying we would have been a seven game series for sure if they beat if last night got typically fucker pitches. Right move coming for the first. and. On the whole right I mean this is this is not what you are looking forward to. If you're major league baseball as far as ratings go I believe the Yankees when all is said and done at the end of this s I think they're gonNA have nine of the top ten highest rated games thus far in the playoffs they're going to have been involved in. So you know you better believe that there are going to be people who are wishing that the Yankees went as deep as possible for the sake of you know the economics of the sport, but from a pure. David Goliath baseball storyline, and there is something amazing even though it's not going to make my stomach feel-good or your Z. about the Tampa Bay rays and they're twelve dollar payroll. Taken down the big bad Yankees and Brosseau hitting the home run off Chapman after that like there's something crazy about that story how many times it I tell you that's not the way we do my career I'm not into. The raise but winning visit. I kept telling you that. The fucking raise

James Paxton, Aaron Hicks answer call in Yankees' season-saving win
"And last night's game five between the Yankees and Astros was much more entertaining than Thursday night's eight to three Astros win a wonderfully pitch game between Justin Verlander and James Paxton ended with the Yankees on top four to one thanks to Homer's from DJ lemay you an Allen hex they're going back to Houston for game six tonight Yankee still down in the series three games to two Astros outfielder Michael Brantley new would be a challenge all along this is based out of it is going to have bad days for a lot of runs about as well no secret to no sense of zero zero I respect the Yankees in windows and it's all going to them Paxton and Berlin each fan nine either starters surrender to run after the first and when I watch football pens get emptied tonight have announced an open yet for either team by the way if the Yankees do win and force a game seven it would be a we Severino and Gerrit Cole on Sunday night our judges just trying to stay in the moment one game officers on you know we can be looking to you know the next couple games your focus on what we got tomorrow in your face in a moral and take care of business there first and then we can go on the World Series begins Tuesday with the American like what are hosting the nationals for the first
A look at all 16 possible World Series matchups
"Allow with us right now is is EMMA LB Major League baseball analyst insider extraordinaire the great one himself the one and only Kirk Chin who will be in attendance for tonight's Oakland a's Tampa Bay rays one game divisional playoff game. What's going on man? How are you how's everything I'm great Stephen? Even a I'm at a playoff game. It's a winner. Take all situation on October the second this is pretty good stuff. You really really liked this one game stuff don't you. You really liked him. Well what I think it does Stephen Obviously it brings a game seven half. Let's fear to the beginning of October that that game last night was a really good game but it was even better because the poor brewers had to go home after losing and granted. It's really unfair that one of these teams tonight both worked on ninety five or more games going to have to go home after one but it does bring increased integrity to the regular killer season. It makes those hundred sixty two games so important so you don't have to play in this game but the fact that the loser goes home home makes it. It has a level even high. I gotTA admit him. I'm very shocked by that position that you take because you are one of the most fair minded people I've ever known on and to go to a hundred and sixty two game season and it to come down told one game. It's it almost seems grew. It really does well. It is cruel stephen a but this is a cool sport and I was not in favor of this but here is the option if we were gonNA play a best best of three. Let's say and you are the New York Yankees. Let's say you want your division and you get to host the next round and we have ties leading into the wild card situation and then you play best of three it's possible the Yankees can win a hundred and ten game name say in a season and then take eight days off before they play a playoff game. That isn't fair you need to you need to really welcome the teams teams that won their division and put them in the best possible spot but if you make them wait a week before they get to play. I don't think that's fair. Wow Turkey right here with steven a radio. ESPN news fair enough. That game was something special last night at least the last couple of innings of soda to to to to Gino's keynote hit it to right field identify Grisham to commit that era. I gotTa tell you it was great to see how electric atmosphere was. How much did baseball Paul need particularly when we have just heard reports come down to how attendance drop but so like a six year low or something like that right well baseball can use all the health can get right now? It's still for me at least the greatest game and yet things are starting to slip a little bit and big game like that starting out like that in a city. That's like the biggest game the nationals of one well biggest game. A team in Washington is one baseball nineteen thirty three for goodness sake. That's what made it so good. That's why that celebration was so good and I'll crom tonight. Stephen Ain't no matter what happens this is gonna be a great night for baseball 'cause weighty. Did you see the Oakland Coliseum tonight with fifty thousand people in your they don't have the most fans in the world but the fans they have our rate and they are loud and it should be a tremendous atmosphere so this is a great jump start to the postseason in baseball last night in Washington and no matter what happens tonight tonight tonight in Oakland who you have when you look at tonight's game just evaluate this this match up to me between the as and Tampa Bay talk to me about you know who's looking good in mismatch in what well I like both teams. I'm GONNA pick I like it matters. I'M GONNA pick the as because they're at home. I'M GONNA pick the as Ashok MNAYA WHO's four no with a one twenty-one year as it's coming off the list has been great. Their bullpen is pretty darn good and they can just ask Mash Stephen a more than any team in the history of the Oakland A.'s in the franchise so they can really pounded but they're going up against Charlie Morton who was one of the best pitchers in the game this year. I saw his last start against your Yankees Steven A. and he he threw six scoreless. Let's see was completely dominant and if you throws like that he's GonNa win tonight. That's how good he was so this is a toss up game. I'll just take the as 'cause they gotta pick. Somebody and I'll take 'cause they're at home. You brought up my Yankee so let's get right to it because you know that's what I really really care about. Tim Kirk Okay. I'm very concerned earn. I am not concerned about the Minnesota twins even donate three hundred and seven home runs this year. I just think they're allergic to prosperity whenever their face against the New York Yankees the Houston Houston Astros are an entirely different matter with Verlaine with Cole Whitt Cranky. I don't see anybody beating. These guys. Talk to me about my yankees prospects. The this postseason Tim Kirk well first off. Do not look pass the twins. Even though I'm with you I believe will win. This series do not look past the team that can swing it like that. Team can second I think the Astros are the best team not just in the American league but in both leagues and I'm not sure how any team to navigate through those friends for you guys in the rotation especially coal and Burland at the top and I'm also going to tell you it's even a there or is hope that the Yankees can win the world series that make you really happy a bunch of things have to happen of course after mash like they always do the bullpen has to be great great like it always has been but Luis Severino comes back and give them five dominant innings. Can we've seen him do and if James Paxton this good he's one ten starts in a row. If Tanaka can give them one really good start or a few really good starts I think they are good enough to win the world series with the team that they have now but I still have them as the third best team in baseball go in behind the Astros and the dodge transitioned to the Los Los Angeles dodgers. They've got to face these Washington nationals in the LDS. How do you see that matchup handicap that for me well? I liked the dodgers in that matchup with the understanding understanding that if Max Scherzer can return to being the great Max Scherzer which he has not been since he came off the injured list is not he wasn't that guy last night. He wasn't that Guy September. If he returns to the best he's ever been with him. In Strasbourg Patrick Corbin they can give the dodgers a really really hard time with with that starting rotation and that lineup is very potent these days. I just think the dodgers are more complete team. They hit the ball out of the Ballpark ballpark with anybody. Three stars in the rotation are really good. My key question with 'em is is their back end to the bullpen as good as it needs to be Kenley Kenley Jansen get the people out. He needs to get out if he can't. They're not going to win the world series. How wants faiths the dodgers fans having jetson? I know I don't have much. I like the guy personally early but I I I don't. I don't trust him. I don't trust them a big spots. I think he can be hit. Talk to me about him. For a second yeah his is down his cuddled. It doesn't have the same movement to better tad in the past and that gives fans of pause. They do have some other health back there there but I really thought they'd go get more help at the trade deadline and they didn't so they're gonNA hope starting pitching and power is going to carry them and they're hoping pinged Kenley Jansen his best but I seen him much much better than he's been this year. What should we make about the fact that you've got high payrolls dodgers Yankees you know old? I don't know the order in which is the highest payroll. You would know that at this particular juncture but I must ask you Tampa Bay is in the postseason obviously lowest payroll in major league baseball well. I do believe I know that I mean how do you explain the fact that teams like the as in the Tampa Bay rays notoriously alot payrolls manage to get this fall and sometimes further dentist with the highest payrolls talked about that for a quick second as a protest. Why baseball is so great even a is that Lebron doesn't touch it on every possession? Kevin Durant doesn't touch it on every possession it is so much more of a eighteen game in its own way because you could lose a superstar and still be really good you have to draft and develop properly like the as and the rays done you have to play the game in a better manner because you can't afford to make a mistake because you know either in free agency or trade because it could set that you back with a raise did they. They got Austin Meadows and tyler glass now in a deal for Chris Archer Saint the whole team now they've ninety games two years in a row they they are really good but they're really 'cause they play the game even a defense base running better than most teams do instead of just sitting back saying well. We're GONNA hit a three run at home this morning so we don't have to do all the other things so. Let's get all of this out of the way right. Now Tim Cook while you're here with me. Yankees twins you. Have you have one in that series. I've got the Yankees over the twin yes with the warning. I say it again. Don't underestimate a team that hit over three hundred homers with the as as you picked as over the race tonight which means there as will go up against Houston obviously you pick in Houston to win that series assuming it comes down to that and the LDS correct yeah yeah but no cakewalk they're not against the as but I have the astros advancing against the how formidable on the Atlanta braves not mean I mean I mean at least in these parts. We talked enough about them. How good is this Atlanta braves team well? If Ronald Kunia junior and Freddy Freeman are completely healthy and they they want to finish the season they are the biggest threat to the dodgers in the National League for me. They're lying is absolutely relentless and with some of the pitching moves they made young and Old Dallas Cycle and the upgrades in their bullpen. I like that team. I don't like it as much as I like the dodgers but they can beat the dodgers with the team. They have right now so the nationals brightest moment was last night because you don't see them beating the dodgers correct I don't because they're going to start on the road. They've already use sure they're they've already Strasbourg people. They can get them back in time. I just don't think they held it too. I was worried shows a look tied at the floor four. Oh five in his last night I mean fifteen and won his last pitch and fit then it was I think it was at seventy seven pitches and he looked absolutely gassed. What does that about yeah? He's he's he's been hurt for portions of the year and he's had a little trouble getting that rhythm back in September and now in October and he is so max effort for on every single pitch when everything isn't working properly even he can get in trouble because almost nobody's better than him.
Red Sox legend David Ortiz throws out first pitch in first public appearance since he was shot
"Well as for judging the Yankees in drama before the first pitch at Fenway as David Ortiz made his first public appearance since he was shot in the Dominican Republic wars red Sox uniform throughout the first page and then a third straight Yankee one in Boston five did nothing James Paxton's eighth when the road looks ready for the post season so the homers by Austin Romijn and G. our Shelley answer in Detroit tonight yanks a gain Carlo Stanton will return to the line of next week he's only played nine games all

"I mean, it just addition by subtraction. That we wouldn't have to face him. If he was on the Yankees that would that would have been good enough. I don't maybe was unwilling to shave the beard. I don't I don't know what quite happened there. He's holding out for four money longer tail. I don't know what the story is there. He didn't know no beard is you'll breaker if I if I have to shave the beard, you better put another zero on the check or whatever. So. Yeah. I actually I did not want you to sign James Paxton. Trade. Actually, we. Traded our prospect just to shift field for. The big price. I did not want you to get him though. Because he's had a couple of games over the years against the Red Sox where he just looks like the best pitcher of all time, you're Hispanic. Young he, but he can't stay on the field as his problem. Yeah. He's injury prone. So, you know, it's Tanaka always seems to have some injuries Severino. Now, if his shoulder, and then you got you know Paxton who's got injury shoes Tabatha with a heart problem. So there's a lot of you know, we're for we're we're we're hoping praying on a lot here. And let's hope it all works out James had hundred twenty one innings in sixteen one thirty six and seventeen and one sixty last year, he's turned to complete games for his entire career. Well, the see the beauty of the Enke's though is they have probably the greatest bullpen of resembled. So that is not going to ask a lot out of our starters. You know, you can go five innings, and it's going to be you know, that's that's going to be a good leaving five innings with the lead. And we should be in good shape. That is true. Of course, we have we have Aaron Boone managing that bullpen. So it's, you know, a little bit like having Ferrari letting my seven year old drive it, but let's hope that works out to do a lot of hoping today. It's this with the seasons all about hope. The best thing you have gone for this year is year. Joe the Aaron judge MVP train, which yeah, let's hope which back from the broken wrist and look into, you know, exactly revenge on the league as you know, I don't like the Enke's. As you know. I don't I dislike the Yankees active wear I made to to wagers this this year that I tell you what these were. Mm dervis. But sure. Nervous. Why you never. I'm worried you're trying to put some sort of jinx onto things here. That's why I'm nervous. I wagered on Aaron judge aid to one to win the MVP. Okay. So here's the case for it. Finished second two years ago. Yep. There's a lot of you can kind of he's in year for which I like there's there's been a lot of like he's now the face of the team kinda stuff float around two months like their question. They really positioning him as like this is the next great Yankee December. Now, we are now in the Aaron judge air here we go. So so the narrative is there two years ago his first full season. He'd fifty two homers. The four twenty two bays finished second the MVP played of the time last year. You know, he missed fifty games. Yeah. And had the risk thing and whatever, but then in the postseason. You know, kind of looked Garin judging in and see figure like what is the ceiling on the ultimate Aaron judge season, which I'm personally invested in because not only bet on him. But we have him on our league Doric for fifty. Got too much invested in there. Judge every lot of lot of chips on the Aaron judge table. And the reason I don't feel bad about is. Because the Red Sox have won four World Series in the last fifteen years..

"I've pulled up off of and they'll be trade. Rumors. So we'll start with James Paxton getting traded to the New York Yankees. Yankees are looking for rotation. I don't think they're necessarily done after this move either. What are your thoughts about Paxton being a gang? Right move for them. Mike only concern said the same thing last year with Paxton he only has I mean, I thirty years old. I don't know if people remember he just turned thirty. We're now in December. So he turned thirty last month. So he started years old and he only has one season of more than. We don't have a big any season this year was it hundred sixty that's in it. And I don't know how that gets better. There's always been something. He's never last year. The high water was twenty eight twenty eight starts hundred sixty endings before that it was the season before that and a lot of the season before that. So I mean, he's he's got this linear progression of workload. But this is what you would expect from a guy. That's twenty six not at thirty. That said everything else is trending in the right direction. Strikeout. Rates up last year. The home run rate was up. And when I was looking at him part of the issue there was you got. Things really got abnormal on him in the against righties, his lefty, righty splits. I remember I wanna look at because I wrote his player capsule for the run wire magazine. And as soon as I could find it. I wanna read exactly what I said because it was worth the splits were really weird last year. And that's something that he'll be we talk about that's not something that repeats year after year you can have an outlier season. But that was that was interesting that was weird. So I don't see that coming here. We go said bid maple season was highlighted by a no hitter at his home country, but somewhat abbreviated with a tired. Internet so much garbage today. Tired shoulder, and I can't beat the rest of it. So I just remember talking about the tired shoulder. We have one hundred sixty Eddings improved strikeout rate for four consecutive seasons, which is impressive for a picture with Notre speed pitch. He went from heavy ground. Ball pitcher, more of a fly ball one. That impacted his home run rate with more than which doubled last season causing the jumping era. Health remains arrests hundred sixty innings. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Twenty of the home runs last year were hit by rioting. So if gets anything that could fade away needs some kind of semblance of a of an austere pitch something that goes the other way little bit or cutter that's gonna come in on the hands. He could take that. Even David price has has changed bit up for me. The the switch over to the American League east and the shorter dimensions of Camden and Fenway. Toronto is that's the that place. That's I'm concerned for the the ballpark's which there with him. So I've got health I've got a health risk. I've got a ballpark risk. I've got a guy skills when he pitches is a high number two. But I I'm not comfortable drafting in there because of the risk. I think people in one of the things you highlighted. I was his age. I think people forget that one you he was a college pitcher. So he, you know, he he was he wasn't in being in the minor leagues for as long as he was was largely because he couldn't stay healthy in the minor leagues either. So right in then he's had all these health issues. I love the talent. If you could guarantee me one hundred in seventy five innings next year. I would probably be on board with what the price is going to be considering I'm assuming there is going to be a bump in ADP after this. Going to the Antes leaving leaving the Mariners people think they're going to get a ton of wins. I just I don't love the ballpark..
San Diego Padres Rumors
"Desk. We had the big blockbuster trade yesterday. The Mariners in the Yankees the big maple James Paxton making his way to the Bronx. Well, the M's may be working on a number major deal with the San Diego Padres, Ken Rosenthal. "First law on the hot stove league. Fire was lit yesterday. Is the Yankees traded for James Paxton, the big left handed starting pitcher of Seattle. He is Canadian. He's known as the big maple. And he went eleven and six last year with a three seven six which is good in the American League. He will fit quite nicely between Severino Tanaka. We'll on the Yankees now better than the Red Sox. No, first of all you have to base should the big maple is not in the big unit meaning the hospital. Right. I mean, he is on the disabled list six times in the last five seasons. Tony a lot. Several chips have been like half the season three and a half months. One time four months another time. I I understand why the Yankees would do this starting pitching is what they were thin at they needed to go and beef that up in the process, you know, I mean, a guy gets is sort of forgotten the Sheffield who also has a lot of talent. And I think is only twenty two years old. But I don't this does not in any way to me as close as they were with one hundred games one. Finish eight games behind the Red Sox. I don't think this allow because we just looked at the top teams in the NFL the top three teams in baseball the Red Sox. They one hundred eight the Astros they one hundred and three in the Yankees. They won one hundred the Yankees just got better. Did they get better than the Red Sox? No. The Red Sox went through the playoffs against the Yankees. The astros. The dodgers they lost one game in each round. They were eleven three against the best teams that were out there. And they answered every question about their starting pitching because Chris sale David price were very very little. So and they've got hitting. So are the Yankees better might they be as good they might be. But they are not better than the Red Sox. The first thing you have to answer about big maple is his health. And I'm sure that entire Brian Cashman brain trust is sitting around thinking about what to do to intimidate this after him off the Daniel. That's what they mean. They just starting. Regarding that sets for starting pitching. That's what they feel. So it is remarkable to me when you look at the how strong the American League is because I is I didn't mention Oakland. I didn't mention Tampa. Either mentioned Seattle. We're all good team. All real, absolutely. Let's take a break back. Stay tuned kids.

"I mean, it just feels like what are some of the like, you know, the difference between these and the brewers uniforms and everybody hates with the gold. Trim is like it's the difference between Wisconsin in south Florida. Like, this is this is south Florida. A brewers 'em with the the wheat logo uniforms. Cure relations, Derek jeeter. You may Florida boring. So that that brings us to the last big uniform change, the Cleveland Indians has unveiled new uniforms. They've got a new red alternate top. We'll see how that goes. You know? I don't like the Red Sox red alternate top. I don't like the the one that Braves had a while back. But it I think it looks good on the angels. I think it looks good on the Phillies. So we'll see how this ends up looking. But the most the biggest change is no more chief Wahoo. And I think we can all agree that boring. Comprehensively boring is better than boring, and I think we're about a decade past the point where we could say good job Cleveland Indians for getting rid of chief Wahoo because his way overdue, but at least they have finally done that. And I don't really like the the red tops either. I don't think sometimes you have to see it on a human. I got to see it on the fields. Yeah. Yeah. Right. It's it's hard just with these. Cups and invisible man wearing them to know what it will actually look like in a game. But don't love the red. But love that wa who has finally gone away. Exactly. All right. Anything else? Guys. We got to the end of the the rundown now, they're actually planning these podcasts. But on how did we miss anything any news that you guys wanna hit? I got nothing. All right. "Yes. They finally gave him a podcast. It's called Milnes retorts about one movie villain each week. The first two that he chose to to talk about we're Hannibal Lecter and Regina George said, this podcast is definitely right up. My alley. I hope it's right up yours, but you're alive. If you're listening to this show is baseball. And that's what we're going to talk about was that cram in Ben lemberg right on the side of this. So I've joined as always by Ben Limburg, then ADA Hello. I'm doing well. And we're gonna talk about some transactions some player move been on the show today. But we have some player movement of our own sat. Cram has moved to Illinois and his microphone is not there yet. So he's joining us via telephone. Hello. So the reason Zach is joining us on telephone is there's finished trade, and he's afraid of my takes. So I'm going to introduce the trade ad Ned. I'll let Zach wind up and eventually Ben's gonna talk at some point on the show. But I don't know. I don't think he's a frayed of your takes. He wants to be here to to combat James Paxton slander, enter the world unopposed. Yeah. I can just play the neutral moderator here on ingredients already. All right. So the tree is James tax, our guest former Seattle Mariners left-hander to the New York Yankees for left handed pitching prospect Justice Sheffield outfield, prospect, Dom, Tom Williams, a former South Carolina Gamecocks and right handed pitcher, Eric Swanson, I guess Jack just take it away. I'll let you go first 'cause we have differing opinions on trade. Well, by the time people are listening to this episode. There will be a piece up on the ringer dot com. Which I call James Paxton, adopt ten pitcher in baseball. So I think the he's added a top ten pitcher, and you don't really need to go beyond that Paxton. Yes, there are some hostile demerits. He's older. He has an injury history. He's never won an award or made an all star team. But if you look at basically every underlying metric, ditch performance, either top ten pitcher and. Danke is needed one of those to compete with Boston Cleveland at Houston, and they got him. There's not much more you need to analyze beyond that, I think if we're going to say this is good trade for the. Or is there? So here's the thing. If you're operating from the premise that James Paxton is a top ten pitcher in baseball than obviously this is a steel for the Enke's, but nothing about he's never qualified for the title in six major league seasons..

"All right. So you wanna anything else out about that story? Or can I jump into this baseball trade? Sure Sure, you you can can. Germany-based thought it was a little humor, really good. You're so drunk. You're kicked out of curling tournament. I love that. I just thought it was mandatory for you to drink to curl. I just thought like okay before this tournament. Everybody must drink. Anyways. The Yankees had a blockbuster trade yesterday they land James Paxton all star pitcher from the Seattle Mariners in return, they send their top left handed pitcher Justice Sheffield in two others, two other minor league prospects in return, some people think that Justice Sheffield is going to be a stud like Clayton Kershaw type stud, but some people are kind of split on him to where they think he's not accurate enough. He doesn't throw enough strikes. He's too wild. He's still very young player. But he was for sure the prize possession and the Yankees in the Yankees, minor league farm system, the thirty year old James Paxton, I just mentioned all star pitcher, what do you think about? This trade. I never liked the fact that people risk their top prospects for play right now because you're kinda risking your future. But you know, we'll see how this goes as the next season happens, and we'll just go from there. I just I just think I wouldn't so many prospects is what I'm saying. Well, the Yankees kind of a win. Now roster would you agree with that they just made the planet? Absolutely. But I just don't I just it's always a risk factor. When you. Take away your top prospect was it you said their top prospect. Yeah, I mean, you know, how it is like different people rate these players differently. Maybe different organizations slash websites. We'll have their own rankings on them. But just the Sheffield has been a name. He's been name that that teams have looked to acquire from the Yankees when talking about giving away one of their best players. So for the Mariners. They do get young pitcher if they can mold him, and he can reach his potential. I mean, it's a steal. But if he becomes a number two or number three type starter, maybe it doesn't work out for them. But hey Paxton is only four million this season. He has a pretty good pretty nice contract in terms of flexibility for the Yankees. So the Yankees could still go out and acquire more pitching. It didn't really cost them a lot of dollars at least this year because I guess at four million dollars. You're getting an all star pitcher a pretty good deal. Yeah. True. I just I'm still skeptical. We'll see how the season goes on. But you never know this prospect, I gave up my the greatest player ever ever lived. You. Never know. I mean. Yeah. I know that I know that so. Over the top. But you get what I'm eating the other options, though, are for the because we can agree. The Yankees starting pitching right now. Right. Yeah. That was their big weakness here starting pitching. Yeah. Okay. So I agree with you like, I hate giving away top prospects. But the Yankees they still need another pitcher at least one more because they have Severino Tanaka Sobat the coming back oddly enough. And now they add Paxton they still need a frontline starter, probably a one or two in my opinion. But when you go to free agency, then gets really expensive. So anyways Adrian belt trae retired. You were talking about that. Yeah. It's really sad for the world of baseball guys played one hundred seventy four years of baseball. He's one of the funniest guys on the field as well. And he was just you just a nice guy overall just a guy you would hang out with and just seem any. He was part of three thousand hit club wasn't was. Never won a World Series. Unfortunately for him. But I still think all Famer. Twelve toes. Seven with the Rangers. Yeah. That was close as he got. Well, when did they was the giants that was twenty ten twenty seven was against the cardinals had literally one strike wait yet to win. They were in game six, but I don't wanna bring that up to Texas Rangers fans, probably the most heartbreaking history. Yeah. It was bad. What a career that twenty one years. Almost as old Siam..

I'm your host hubs the barstool Sudi does have first time at a longtime. Tommy, smokes Majko's. What's happening? They've got. What's up? I am. I'm having a crisis right now. He really down Instagram story. I my full behind the scenes video is out threats. Fifteen second preview on my Instagram store with swipe up I had it done. But interim was down like all morning. So it was never uploading. And how put a million different times one of the ones that I applauded forgot without the link. And right now, I'm uploading one. And I think I forgot catch link again. But I'm not sure because it's taking forever to go. It is. I want one question. Yes. Are you gonna cry? I just gonna keep growling and just growling before I don't know if you realize like video recording. But that was bad. Well, the reason you tuning in the reason we're doing the special podcast a day after we just there last one we've been a trade the cash cod Brian Cashman, the dark Lord at his finest goes and gets a starting pitcher. We need a starting pitcher. When you multiple starting pitchers. We got one James Paxton Seattle. Mariners big maple the pacman come into the Big Apple. It's a great nickname. The house is all time. We change Paxton. He's pretty fucking good. There's some pros and cons of this. A big comma gateway Justice Sheffield is our number one prospect, we had Sheffield's podcast. We are the only players should have been on this podcast, Josh Rogers, and just Sheffield have both been traded. That's not great. We're kind of in the works of getting void on this podcast. I'm not sure if that's a great idea for gonna have people avoid coming on like the plague. Yeah, we're we're pretty close. We're gonna work to have Ryan Ruko in like a couple of weeks. I mean is he just going to get fire from? Yes after coming all time. Maybe that would be the real curse. But James Paxton is big time. He has a potential to be a true as people who are disputing that. The numbers back that up without a doubt. He's very cheap to the payroll. He's the perfect wet dream guy that come on the team with perfect wet dream guys a huge in terms of staying into luxury tax. Oh, yeah. I guess let me finish the sentence. Yeah. Uber would be up there to write him in cl-. Yeah. Like those guys he made four million dollars a year. So he's on arbitration next two years of free twenty twenty one. Yeah, he'll get probably make ten this year, but Justice Sheffield departing. I almost think this is more of a testament to not that paxon's the bigger get. But that's chef there's a problem with Sheffield. And I and we're not here to trash I feel at all. The best. I literally route every time is out there. I just think the organization gave up on him with control issues and how they legitimately never improved. We came up his shorts. It was. I think it was the biggest red flag on September. First when his name just wasn't there as a call up, and he came back came up a little later. But the fact that like he wasn't ready by September first date entrust this. They his stuff is all time. And I love the whole, you know, he's kind of stroke. He's a lefty Stroman the fact that he's short, you know, people can't him out for that. But he's Deepak law. Punt packs a big punch in in his small body. But I wish the best it's very clear control issues Cashman, and the analytic department did not agree with, you know, those and they didn't want to didn't want to wait long enough to see it come. It's that like they may think that just the Sheffield might develop into a good pitcher. But he's he's not going to be that within the next. We're looking right right now the he's are in win. Now Mody went quickly from a quota. Rebuild to let's win a World Series every single year mode. James Paxton is basically he's what just the Sheffield could. Yeah. But he's that now. So I don't mind..

We've got all of that coming, and we're going to tell you more about that throughout the course of the afternoon, but we are going to start today's show a little orthodox because the newest Yankee. James Paxton joins us right now. James, welcome to New York. It's Chris Maggie and Bart here on WFAN in New York City. What was your reaction when you first heard the news that you were headed to the Yankees? Little surprised, you know, but super excited, I'm I'm honored to be app. Pinstripes and help the Yankees go for number twenty eight. It's funny Jamesy. You're going to be joining a team and a franchise where I'm going to be honest. A lot of fans last year thought the team underachieved when they won a hundred games have you to feel first of all what do you think about that a fan base or team that says they underachieve yet they want one hundred games? Well, you know, New York expects to win. And if you're not number one, you know, you're not I fear the worst. So you know, I think it's all about winning championships. And that's what they expect. And that's what we're trying to build in New York. Have you ever felt that sort of pressure on a nightly basis? No. It'll be a new experience for me to see I think that much pressure. But I feel like I I'm ready for it. You know, I kinda built up here. The last few years can't gaining experience implying some bigger games here. And there and I feel like I'm ready to go. Now, we've all acts when we're the Yankees going go Yankee. So how does it feel to notice you're part of that process of the Yankee sanded, we're all landed? We're going for right now. How did they make you feel that you the first piece to the puzzle? I'm honored to be called upon by the Yankees. You know, they have that confidence. In me. They they think that I'm the guy that can help close that gap between Boston and put in position to to win a championship is is he shows a lot of confidence in me. And I'm just really excited to to be part of it. All James have got a chance to hear some of your comments from last night with the beat writers and one of them I found particularly fascinating from when you went down in two thousand sixteen and really since you've been so much better of a pitcher and the idea of reading hitters swings. And how important that has become for you just describe what the transformation was like. And was it just as simple as kind of like getting switched on for you. Well, I think the two different things. Well, the arm mangled change allowed me to throw more strikes and also kept my head more still in my mom, mechanics, and my delivery. So it's easier to see what was happening through the ball. And the readings twins takes time and experience, you know, I've been in the league now for five years, and I had an experience they don't have quite as many innings as most guys with five years because my injuries, but I'm kind of getting to a point where I have the ability to throw my pitch. And then see what the swing looks like the body language as a hitter. And then be able to choose you know, what I need to do next. You mentioned the injuries. And it's a Yankee fans have been bringing up here over the last eighteen hours since they heard about the trade. So what would you tell the Yankee fan about your injury history of their concerned by it? Well, nothing big, you know, I haven't had one knock on wood. I haven't had any elbow injuries shoulder injuries. They've all been. You know? Smaller injuries kind of soft tissue stuff. And none of the injuries that I've had have returned. I figured out ways to make sure they don't happen again troop rehab prefab exercises. Whatever it may be. And I continue to learn about my body, and I work really hard. I put everything I've got into this thing. And I think I'm hopefully running out of things to to have to remedy. Things have been going in the right direction. You know, each year the last few years there have been throwing more and more innings. So keep that trend going and get closer to that two hundred inning Mark next year. I'm gonna make the obvious joke care since you're not joining the Mets. I'm sure everything's going to go smoothly. In terms of. That's just a local thing. You'll have to get used to that. Which of your injuries, though, what has been the most difficult to come back from. I know you said they were small they were minor. But which was the toughest to either a pitch through or to come back from. Well, the most frustrating for sure was my finger injury because everything else dog crate, and the only thing that was bothering me was my was my finger. I just had partially torn a. It was called a four poli in my middle middle finger, and I just I couldn't throw a baseball. But everything else felt great. And it took a long time because the blood flow to your fingers isn't very good. So it takes a long time for them to heal. And that was that was really hard just to kind of sit there. And you know, you think about how do you do anger exercises? You know, it's just it was basically just time it needed to heal. And 'cause I'm someone who wants to. I wanna do everything I can to, you know, get back as soon as possible. And there is really nothing that I can do gotta get you gotta get that little bucket a rice to go, Bruce Lee style. But. As an athlete. We're always tweaking our training methods are nutrition when has been the secret sauce for you to try and make sure that you enter the season as healthy and able to go as long as you can. Well each year, it's kind of been adding on you know, I've learned more each each off season. Training wise, I've been working with some people here in Seattle that do muscle activation technique. It's just a technique that make sure that all of your muscles are firing properly and working together. So that's something isn't overcompensating 'cause their their philosophy is that if all of your muscles are firing properly nothing should tear because the muscles are extremely strong. And you know, if if something is is hurt because something else is shut down. And then I'm also working with a my first year working with the nutritionist on my own entrance and different things. And I feel great, you know, I've lost about ten pounds and my body fats down and my body feels feels fantastic. So I take I'm in come into next season. Being the best shape of my career newest Yankee James Paxton joining. Right here on the fan to numbers jumped out to me for you about the last two years number one the strikeouts. Going way way up especially this past season two hundred eight and one hundred sixty innings is pretty darn impressive. What do you attribute that to? Learning how to pitch you know, like like I said before reading swings. And utilizing my stuff a little bit better learning how to strike is out. You know, I think it's all a process of learning. How to use my stuff, and I've used a high fastball a little bit more coupled with my curveball and my cutter slider. Whatever you guys want to call it. You'll see it when I throw it. It's some people call it a cutter some people call this slider. And just coupling that learning how to use that stuff to strike guys out his sons been big part of it for me, the second one was that this past year that the home run numbers went up allowed from. I think it was from nine to like twenty three was just more pitches up in his own Nick end up getting hit out. What was it? Yeah. Made a few mistakes this year as far as the home runs. Go just a few mental mistakes as much as physical mistakes things that I'm working to remedy, you know, in the past I've been pretty good at being at keeping the ball. I keeping the ball in the ballpark and something that I want to get back to of course, you know. But I think that like you said it's just a couple of mistakes up his own losing focus, maybe a couple of times here, and they're trying to do something when I should have just been focusing on making my bitch. So definitely things at all. You know, work on and try to get rid of for next year. And we're talking about James Paxton and at the risk of this interview going totally off the rails. This is not why bringing this up at all. But would you pitch your Yankee Stadium? We saw that first inning and couple bombs leaving the field. Aaron judge do harm. Both got to you in that first inning. A little bit of nerves or just as you were saying before just kind of loss of focus or something like that. Yeah. You know that was kind of came in that game. And I, you know, I don't know. I just wasn't really honored I guess right away. And just wasn't on my game. And of course, timing Yankee Stadium. I don't know. Maybe it was a little bit of nerves. Would it seems like I you know, after that anything I I kinda calmed down and got back to business. And I think I did pretty well after that. Okay. So this is an impossible question to answer. But I'm gonna ask you anyway. Tougher to face or more intimidating to face judger Stanton. Oh, man. They're both extremely good players. You know, tons of power. They both are extremely talented. I am very happy. Gonna be on my team. Now, I don't have to face those guys. 'cause there a couple of monsters all that lineup. It's honestly hard to choose which one is more intimidating. They're both. They're both very good players that being said, I don't feel like I get intimidated on the mound. I feel like I try to be the aggressor and. I'm willing to face anybody. And I put my stuff up against anybody. Now. Now, the Yankee Stadium is going to be home. What if any did you learn from that experience from rough game? I just learned that at the same game. No matter where you go. You know, it doesn't matter how big the stage or who you're playing. It's the baseball game doesn't change and needed to be reminded of that. But I don't need to change who I am. Or what I do just because I've got a different stadium in a new place or even got a New Jersey on my back. You know, I'm gonna go out there and do what I do. And that time to get my most consistent results, and you can pass that along to Sonny gray. Shovel trouble adjusting James Paxton with us. Have you heard last night from Aaron Boone have you heard from any of your teammates as yet? See see us about the texted me yesterday, welcoming me to the Yankees and just letting me know to reach out of I have any need any help with the move was really nice of them to reach out to me. I really appreciated that haven't heard from any other guys yet. But I'm sure I'll get a few texts here in there over the holidays and stuff. I'm sure guys are busy with family and everything, but I'm really looking forward to to meeting my new teammates. And you know, the guys I'm gonna go to battle with. Reputation around the game. I would imagine that had the mean a lot and knowing that you're gonna have an opportunity to play next to that guy. This year. Yeah. I'm extremely excited to play the CC. You know, he's a great player. He's a great career. And I'm really looking forward to learning from him. It's gonna be a great opportunity for me. We're talking with James Bax. And James I noticed something with two years ago you had kind of a lot of wild pitches. It seemed like you really clean that up this year. And maybe what you were talking about earlier about being able to see the ball where it's going and changing those kinds of things about your delivery may have helped that I'm just curious looks type relationship. Do you like to have with a catcher, you know? Obviously Gary Sanchez has struggled here defensively especially the season. How do you like that relationship to go? Yeah. I think needs to be a very like open relationship. I think the more we get to know each other. You know, I'm sure he's gonna catch me along spring training. We'll have a lot of conversations about what I like to do..

"Team that I'm just fascinated by right now as Seattle Mariners. They began a huge series of for them against the Astros on Thursday night. That's a weekend series for game set, and but coming into that, they had lost seven of their last nine Felix Hernandez is kind of pitching his way out of the rotation, which is such a bummer. 'cause they're finally kind of in the mix for Tober essentially, and he's just not really a productive part of that at all. What do you make the Mariners here moving forward? They'll get Robertson Cano back soon. But boy, they gotta start kicking into gear here because the as just blown right by them. Well, if the as wins keep winning every night the, they don't have to worry about it. But. We're gonna find out soon. I would think they play the Astros seven times in the next fourteen days six times than thirteen days they they have sixteen game stretch. Now they've just started against Astros as the dodgers Diamondbacks. So you find out the pitching has just not been good, James Paxton back from the DL that gives them that gives them a chance to win every night. But like you said, king Felix is just not the game Felix of all Mark Marco Gonzalez been roughed up a couple of time. Bottom line is pitching terrible in even if canot comes back and just hits the ground running, that'll help them. Certainly that'll help them. But you know, you're look at that Oakland rotation. If you just match them up side by side, the names you'd say probably a rub, but Brad Anderson's been fabulous. Chris Bassett's been good for the as in Jackson's, found new life. So right now it looks like Oakland's going to the playoffs in Seattle's, not, but you know, it's all right there in front of. Them and I'm sure that's what's got service in staff is preaching

"Bruschi fifteen says Louise, go top forty pitcher for the second half, it puts dependent on nailing down rotation about which is fine. I, I dig that caveat. Obviously, you wouldn't believe that if he was in a bullpen role, I like this one. I like go Hora. I think he's got a lot of talent. He was really interesting coming in, then he hurt his ankle and that kind of that kind of took me off as far as the redraft situation. I just kind of wanted to play a little wait and see instead. Excuse me. And he has thrown twenty innings in the majors. They haven't really gone well with the five ninety five area. But I think that's a substantial blow up or to yet six runs in two thirds of an inning. A relief outing at San Diego. I mean, that's doing the bulk of the damage here. He's giving up seven runs in one thousand nine hundred otherwise. So you know. That that is obviously the very nature of small samples in why you have to be very suspect of them in kind of check out the makeup. But yeah, I could see something I could see a second half surge from go HARA. I don't rule that out and now it'd be that'd be big for them for the Braves. M striker m underscore striker s. t. r. e. e. r. striker Streiter striker why would it be structure in what world is that? Streiter God, I'm dumb Marco. Gonzales finishes at the top AL west SP outside of Houston, even with an innings limits. So you're going outside of Houston. You looking at. About that. You know, just on his own team. That's James Paxton that he's ahead of that alone is enough. I think to put it on the hot take. Platform, however, eliminating Houston, cools it a little bit because the angels, everyone who's pitched for them is on the disabled list, Texas. I mean, no. And then I guess you know Mnaya but, hey, I'm still accepting because Marken Zala over James Paxton is still something something to say, listen. I certainly believe in some talent for Marco Gonzalez. And I think you somebody to be taken seriously as a fantasy asset as well is, was the first round pick who was supposed to come to the majors in kind of a completed form. Like right off the top kind of be who he was solid, mid rotation guy, injuries crushed. It crushed him and in really derailed into now. But he's still just twenty six and he's found his footing and he looks really sharp. And I do believe in the talent here. I'm still gonna take Paxton, but just to kind of say, Marco Gonzalez, don't don't completely run away from him and think that that this isn't that this is legit on some level. You know, you're still talking about a guy who's not a huge k. guy who works off of command and control sort of. Profile, but that's valuable profile is still think that there's going to be nice ERA in whip here even if you're not getting great strikeouts for Marco, been solace at Finney. Baseball says Ozzy always pose the old switcheroo with his speed and power. Swipes twenty bags and hits nine homers in the second half almost going thirty thirty. I love it. Amplify he's going fifty, fifty idiots. I'm just kidding. No, I I really liked that one. I could see something like that. Maybe not the complete switcheroo, but that's part of what makes it the hot take. But I could see if if if the power smooths out a bit already has twenty homers I was telling y'all that like. I love him. I think he can hit sixteen homers sear, you know something like like that. He's already got twentieth the break, but I also thought he was going to have a boatload of bags. I was thinking to ninety with like thirty five steals, and then the homers aren't going to be so important. So we'll see if he runs more. I think a lot of it would be if there's more singles than than power hits. Because right now twenty nine doubles three triples twenty homers. How many opportunities has he had to steal. He does have a boatload of singles. I'm sure he does have plenty of steel opportunities, but how many times are the basis caused to the point where he can't really steal..
