"Utter. My walk outside and get hit by a car. Who cares? There's just that's that's want them to continue to be bad. Because I find it hilarious when GM's just continuously make Ben they have made even they wanna Super Bowl always watch. Yeah. It's starting to feel more and more like an accident that that was what happened is it that Super Bowl season was so bizarre to because you had Peyton Manning on his last leg. Quite literally in some ways he was atrocious. Like, you you could argue forgot about Repin ribbons of prospect for Boise state. Yes. You would have been perfect. Geno. John just sees the name Rippin. Thanks, Mark Rippin. And just like, oh, yeah. I'll take him sign me up. But you're right. That that Broncos Super Bowl that they won it almost feels like they won inspite of Peyton Manning being their quarterback, right and Brock Osweiler carry them through a key portion of that season. And they just so happen to have the best defense in the league that carried them, right? So you're you rooting for the Broncos is the weirdest development of draft night, thus far away from the pack full disclosure here. And again, if you're listening on NewsRadio six twenty WTMJ, WTMJ dot com. This version of the draft show completely opposite of what you if you were listening last night's complete opposite. All right last night professional lot of a lot of respected opinions not going to be so much the case here tonight. But I am I think I hate the Broncos just a little bit. Because a couple of years ago in me and few buddies did a Madden online franchise we picked random teams, I ended up with the Broncos. And I told you exactly in two thousand and seventeen how the Bronco season was going to play out because I did they tried every quarterback that they had on the roster. I did the same thing when I was going through that Altero nothing the guys that they drafted they invested high kit draft capital in drafting first rounders, but the seventh rounder ends up being the one who starts now they've all been terrible every quarterback decision that John Elway has made in Denver has been the wrong one going out and keenum having a tremendous year for the Vikings. What does he he goes on to your contract? He's keenum had not proved that one year that he was capable of that. And what did he do last year in Denver went back to being the case keenum that we had kind of known before that goes out and gets Joe flacco Joe flacco in case seem quarterback. Back statistically, they'd been the same quarterback the last three years Irie how close every single one of their statistical numbers are. It's unbelievable. When you look at the last three years. So that's why I was kinda hoping he'd go out and get Gardner Minhsiu from Washington state. I hate to derail your anti Denver Broncos rant there. But the Green Bay Packers have been on the clock. And now the pig is in they're off the clock. So you carried us through the entirety of the Packers being on the clock with an anti Denver Broncos around here on draft night. We can expect welcome. Yup. That's that's that's what you're gonna get some names available for the Green Bay Packers. And once again, the pick has been submitted. They will make a selection here momentarily forty fourth overall. Twelfth selection of the second round best available on ESPN dot com. At this juncture, greedy Williams, cornerback out of Louisiana state Ryan Finley quarterback NC state, Irv Smith June. Tight end out of Alabama. There are a handful of names here that could help the Green Bay Packers the pick. Once again is in Gable you expecting here. I'm not sure I mean with all the offensive lineman that went that really is going to. I thought that this could potentially be tackled that swing guy that they desperately need agree with you. But I don't think that's going to be the case anymore because those four tackles went rapid fire off the top of the second round here. There is a relatively significant drop off from those four guys to the next sort of tier of tackles that could help your football team. So I think the Packers are going to go in a different direction here. Once again, the pick is submitted forty fourth overall Green Bay Packers making their first selection of the evening momentarily, who's a celebrity picker. James Lofton James Lofton heading to the podium to make announcements two thousand and three pro football hall of fame inductee with the Packers from seventy eight to eighty six about surrounded his NFL career as well. But James lost. And he's gesticulating to the crowd Nashville leading go, Pat, go chant with a bunch of folks, and she's heads off to the right of the stage man, James Lofton's, really milking this time on the station. So what I absolutely he's reading this election right now the Green Bay Packers forty four th pick ofensive linemen. Elton Jenkins out of Mississippi State as a center that is the position that he's tab that on the television broadcast. So the Packers going offense of line game with their first pick of the evening, not at the tackle position. But potentially this could be guy that bounces around a little bit. He was the Kent hold trophy award winner in two thousand eighteen. So he's six five three hundred ten pound center. So he's a little bit of a taller center. Which means I think that this is a guy that can be that swing guy in the middle. Obviously. I don't think you're gonna wanna take somebody who has been a center in college and throw them out on an island tackle, that's not even though he has tackled size at six five three ten. He is a guy that I could potentially see being that guy to fill in at left guard center right guard in case there happens to be an injury. Well, the Packers are set at center as well with Corey Lindsey, right? And you still relatively young in his career. So Aaron Rodgers one word we throw around with Aaron Rodgers probably more. So than anything else gave and correct me from wrong. Here's trust right in Aaron Rodgers has a tremendous amount of trust inquiry Lindley. So I would imagine this is a guy. I don't know this for sure I'm sure we'll hear it from whatever scout steps to the podium momentarily in Green Bay to break down this pig for the Packers. I would imagine. This is going to be a guy. Why that is versatile along the offense of line for the Green Bay Packers did three year twenty five million dollar contract with the Packers. This upcoming season's going to be your two of that deal. And then he'll be twenty nine going into age thirty when it becomes a free agent in twenty twenty one you could potentially look at this as Corey Lindley insurance in a couple of years as well kind of grim long be that guy that swings and can play a number of different positions on the interior line. And Corey Lynch Lee continues to play the way he has. And he wants and other big contract.

"Streaming live at K N B R dot com. Yeah. Man, James Lofton from Stanford University. Joining us. The bottom of the hour. You know, Bob, if we're going to talk about them. Divisional playoff games coming up this weekend. We only had one mandate. We have to deal with the hall of fame. Air go. You got strict rules James Lofton got to be a principal person. The James Lofton has been a part of various good NFL teams throughout his career. And so I think he knows what what playoffs look like and smell like does. He know what a raider, smells like. I will not ask him that question. We have both been troubled over the last couple of days of what we perceived to be. It seems as though the NCAA is is messing with the laws of of nature. And I think this is the the biggest problem in college football today because. When you believe in things, you don't understand you'll suffer here. Here's a prescription ain't the way in messing around with the dark arts messing around with the space time continuum, that's a problem. And this is something that the NCAA is engaging in and Bob, I I am surprised that we were the only two people in sports media who seemed to be disturbed by by what's going on K. So when you think of a new restaurant or a hot club or something and you find out about it or even if you're traveling and you hear about area fifty one made it makes you want to go to these places. Now, I knew for time memorium over the last several years. Okay. Clemson's quarterback Kelly Bryant will transfer to Missouri. Okay. They transfer. We we hear those type of things right? Jalen hurts is going to transfer else. Got the kicker coal Tracy transferred into school. Okay. We're very familiar with that seems simple. But when I hear Jalen hurts. And then today tape Martell of Ohio State have entered the transfer portal. One. I don't even know that place exists. We weren't supposed to know about this. Bob K to what happens to these kids when they go in there. This is how you know the NCAA has too much money. They apparently had built a machine a portal the transfer order that will allow these guys to basically because they're transferring go anywhere they want so just a place, but I will assume that any point in time in human history. So the problem. Yeah. I mean, this is are they transferring in before they throw that forty yard pass. It's an ano of fits open or the DB's. This is dangerous stuff in too deep coverage like like the player movement in college football. But when you have guys going into portal's, these are things that we don't understand when did they come out of the transfer portal. They in there, and is it like in the Terminator where you have to be. But naked remember that. Right. Right. You can't you couldn't go through the portal through Tom. We close. Clothing is this is what happened right now? So I need to. Jalen hurts. Cleanly shaven when he comes back out, the the dreads all gone what I need to I need to know. Dumb and pretentious way to say. These kids have started the process of leaving one school and going to another we need to gussie that up with something. This is all about marketing. I know we'll call it a transfer portal with dumb middle-management. Yeah. But it's dope came up with this. The breathless reporting of they've entered the transfer portals. The process of going somewhere else. Why do we call it entering the transfer portal? Dummies absolute dummies with far too much money too much power. Yeah. I I just I I'm fascinated by this. I do want to get into the transfer Puerto low just to see what it's all about. Well, I wanted to wear it is again once the guy goes in when he gets spit out who's eligible to go into this who's not. I mean, just the other team is other team like a quarterback taking a shotgun snap that the player comes out of the transfer portal. And he's just like, you know, jettison right to your campus. I mean is there music when you walk in, Mike?.

I was on the sideline for that bad. Boy, James Lofton actually gave me his press pass for that bills patriots game. And he signed it which is pretty sweet probably core than mine. I've got saints falcons from thanksgiving. I still have titans chargers from across the pond, I've got my own bills patriots. I've got lions jets from the opening game. Sam darnold. First game. "It's in twenty eighteen you fire your head coach on Monday by Tuesday brand new year, fresh piece of paper to turn the page on seems perfect issue that black Monday would be on New Year's Eve. But there are some instances where there could be six seven eight openings this year, the New York Jets the Zona cardinals. We have is to know about the Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers. You could have changes in Cincinnati. You could have a change in Miami Tampa Bay. Although there reports for me in Rappaport over the weekend that the buccaneers may just bring everybody back, and I find that decision right now in sports to be an interesting one, right? Like, what is the balance of overreacting and premature firing someone when leadership take some time to really get some roots in the ground, and what the other side of that is winter you just insulting your fan base. To me. Like if you're the Tampa Bay Buccaneers bringing back jerk cutter the coaching staff and Janus Winston is kind of insulting. Nobody wants that we've seen that relationship is over as if you're getting together with friends this holiday season, and you've got a friend or family member that's in a dysfunctional relationship that should have broken up years ago. But here they are bringing all their baggage to your front door for another holiday season. It's the couple that sits down for dinner, you're playing board games or something. And one of them said something just truly insulting to the other one in front of everybody. And it gets very awkward, and there's a lot of nervous laughter. That's the bucks. James winston. It's not going to get better. They don't need to go to couples therapy. They don't need to practice meditation or yoga they need to break up. They need to go their separate ways. And there are decisions that. Sizes will make this off season that walk that fine line between too early premature and insulting their their fan base. I would argue the Miami Dolphins, right? It ryan. Tena Hill's gone. I'm not exactly sure why Adam geisha return. In fact, Stephen Ross the owner of the dolphins today has has said he's denied that the dolphins will try to lure Jim Harbaugh to Miami famously. They tried to your Stephen Ross Michigan booster some weird connections there. But the dolphins are one of those teams make change even even, you know, even if it's a year to early I think making a coaching change sort of like retiring, we say this to athletes all the time. Well, you'd rather call it quits a year to early than a year too late. I feel the same way about head coaches one year. Coach is like Steve Wilks in Arizona, unless it's an extreme case. Like Steve Wilks is we've watched every game of Steve Wilks. This team is literally not getting. Gotten better in any phase. They haven't addressed any of their problems. They just gotten progressively worse and less competitive had an opportunity one year was enough. But if you've been at your job longer than a year, and you don't have a lot of success. It's fair game to move on and that dysfunctional relationship. Everybody will be relieved everybody will breathe easier and the chances of success actually happening will get a lot better. If you just get rid of the dysfunction now are there. Great coaching candidates out there. That's another conversation. I think there will be a lot of reaches on offense of coaches as we talked about earlier, defensive-minded coaches might have a hard time getting a gig. But there's a case to be made that some of the best hires this off season in the NFL could very well. Be defensive minded head coaches coming up in the second hour of the rich Eisen show. Kevin Burkhard, Fox Sports will join me his thoughts on the Rams the chargers and whether a Super Bowl championship is coming away plus Samay mic on a busy NBA Christmas. Day all of that coming up right here on the rich Eisen show. Imagine the home you've always known sinking into oblivion. Save community of a way of life Virginia island population. "It's gonna make preparing for that offense, incredibly hard on short notice potentially and defensively as hard nose as they are Terrell. Suggs hall of Famer Eric Weddell, maybe a hall of Famer playing good football. He's had a long time. They've got guys on the corners that are capable of making plays. It's just a really rock solid team. And I'm curious, you know, there's a few teams right now. Specifically the ravens in the bears that seem to be ahead of all other teams when it comes to playing the offenses of two thousand eighteen and I wonder if the defensive coordinator for the ravens and the bears Vic Fangio dean pees, they're going to get opportunities this offseason to be head coaches because it's clear they figured out something before everybody else. Has defensively. Now, they've got the personnel to do it. But they figured something out into me. That's the kind of trait. You're looking for when you're hiring coaches. Everyone wants the next best young offense of coordinator. But really it's missing the point of what this NFL season has been about this NFL season has been about innovation in reacting to that innovation. If you're a defense of coordinator, and you're able to solve the offense of riddle before anybody else. That's the kind of thinking that is winning football games in the NFL. It's not having one philosophy sticking to it and not budging that get got gets guys. Like, Mike McCarthy fired. It's about being adaptable. It's about being able to respond to innovation. It's about being able to innovate on your own. And both defenses of the bears and ravens have shown that they are capable of innovating beyond the offense of innovation. Ofensive sort of hit their head on a ceiling this year. We're here come the ravens and Baier's. They've they've decoded it faster than anybody else. That's the makings of a head coach that you you want shaping philosophically in schematically the future of your franchise yet because someone once, you know, made copies for Sean McVeigh, they're going to get a head coaching interview. And I think that's crazy. We saw John de Filippo how fools Goldie it can be when you're just, you know, a long for a successful season offense of -ly give me guys that know how to innovate and respond innovation. That's who should be leading football teams. They're not the biggest names, it's not Jim Harbaugh. Like we talked about earlier it's not Mike McCarthy with the Super Bowl. It's not Lincoln Riley with his bag of tricks, but Vic Fangio to me would be a really strong higher for an NFL franchise. This off season coming up on the rich Eisen show. Speaking of coach. Ching rumblings. They're getting louder. They're getting stranger, and we will get you cut up on all the latest rumblings. It's next right here on the rich Eisen show..

"You just can't take your eyes off of. And he's sitting that way to entire season. We looked at this team with Alex Smith, and they were really good. But now, they're they're really chiding represent a whole lot different Patrick Mahomes to step in and do what he's done has just been awesome. Lastly tonight, Monday night football. We can all spend Christmas Eve with James Lofton on the radio Broncos. Listen, this is still a fierce rivalry. And I know there's nothing on the playoffs. But I would imagine. These teams are still going to come out and throw haymakers at each other. Oh, yeah. A couple couple things to watch their cars. Having a really good year despite their overall record is pleasing percentage ways, protecting the football. And then Philip Lindsey the undrafted running back out of your Colorado nine hundred ninety one yard. So maybe third rookie running back who's been undrafted and Lee just three to break thousand yards. Dominic grows did it in two thousand one and the Garrett blunt that oh, I think maybe two thousand nine or seven I might have my numbers off a little bit. But so that's a quite an accomplishment for undrafted sue small and not big enough to play in the NFL. When you leave the Coliseum tonight look up wave to the big guy in the sleigh up in the sky, and we will be listening tonight, James Lofton. Appreciate your time here on the richeisenshow. Thanks so much happening. Not later. You got a great stuff there from James Lofton as he mentioned. It's it's sort of stood the test time in the NFL. You get to this point of the year. They're certain teams that are. Playing than others that you do not wanna play which is what I talked about with the Philadelphia Eagles even Minnesota Vikings. You know, the Vikings are re emerging out of their midseason swoon one of those two teams is gonna miss the playoffs. And in my opinion. Both of those teams would be capable of winning a couple of playoff games. One of them's gonna miss it. There there is that momentum. The Baltimore Ravens right now. I would not wanna play a team like the ravens because people will compare it to Tim Tibo and Tim Tijuana playoff game, right? Tim. Tebow one is significant playoff game. Lamar Jackson is so dynamic running the football. It's not always pretty you know, watching chargers game on Saturday. There were times on third down where Lamar Jackson tucks it runs right into the teeth. And you think well that that probably wasn't the best way to try to pick up a first down. But there's such a fear there. I guess a bit away. Putting it there such a respect for what? He is capable of doing with his legs that as long as he's just capable of making a few routine passes..

"Yeah. I mean, they're being asked right now to make calls all over the place to do that. Yeah. And you don't wanna just look the other way. Because what you'd like to do is? You'd like to have a fair all the time. So if there really caught contact on the left side the ball on the right side. You gotta go and make that call. Do you still remember plays from your career where you thought the officiating was was not the right call on on a play that you made? I really don't. And it was funny when I was coaching and you guys out of practice in middle. You know, those holding one I'm trying to get the line. And I was just good players. Don't get health. Good players. Don't get out of vision. So you got to kind of make you believe that and not look for calls all the time. Yeah. They're times on the defensive back gonna hook you and might get that called miss or your pass rusher. And that takes you down. Or whatever. But you've gotta be of the play beyond those calls, James. I'm curious. Your thoughts on the New England Patriots. They Clinton other division. They're going to be a ninth straight first round by in the AFC playoffs. Tom Brady, obviously at his age. We know all about them but still over four thousand yards passing still thrown for nearly thirty touchdown passes on the season. How much do you think? This patriots team has to go before they're real Super Bowl favorite this year or this machine. Just something that we of take for granted. We certainly for granted just like that guy in the red shoes. Gonna show tomorrow we kind of people, and it's the same way with the with the patriots in December. They're always there. And then hanging around in January all the time. So you you've gotta beat them. And like, I said the teams that you you wanna play seems really on around often and their teams that you have play and some of those things that you have to play 'cause end up being the million pages. He just feel like in look like though that rob gronkowski is just been playing popular level. Yeah. What's what's going on the Effing? thing? You know, he's probably not a hundred percent physically. He's trying to battle through it. And maybe they're hoping that ad, you know, those along one fact is and then a lot of guys going through that. And but we notice it with rob gronkowski because he dominant physical player James Lofton hall of Famer joining us here in the richeisenshow. I gave a steady earlier James. The Baltimore Ravens are running the ball. Sixty four percent of their offense of snaps. Lamar Jackson is five and one is the starter. The number one defense in the NFL. What do you see when you watch? The Baltimore Ravens play football this year. It is a power of wills. You've got to be willing to make tackling. He got to be willing to play against physical brand of defense. They they're so much different than everybody else around the league and some physical sample, and it's like the varsity going against Jimmy bossy. Do you have an opinion on? On the MVP race this year. Many people assuming the homes Brees is sort of the two horse race your thoughts. I was on the coaching staff here in San Diego when we had to reason we had a team, and but I've watched Patrick Mahomes, and I told them buddy he's like that signing new car right up with production line..

"All season long, Monday night football, Broncos raiders, James Lofton joins us here in the richeisenshow. James? How are you? I'm doing great. How are you guys doing merry Christmas? Merry christmas. You appreciate you on this Christmas Eve sneaking a little time on the radio. I'm curious your thoughts right now on sort of this changing landscape James of the first two and a half months. It was all offense records being on pace to be smashed everywhere. And now it feels like if you're not running the football and you're not playing hard nosed defense. You might not have a chance to win the Super Bowl. What do you make of this changing landscape? You know, it's funny because you you mentioned that a couple of things happen. Once December rolls around you hear the term they control their own destiny. And the other one is all I wouldn't wanna play those guys in the playoffs. And I think that's what you always have and December you have teams that stuck a game momentum unless you say sometimes. Eventually sometimes it's offense ably. I've looked at the Kanthi cheese all year long. And I said if they were going twenty one point the game everybody talking about how bad their decent. But when you're scored thirty five points the game. Nobody notices that staying on your time. They just notice that you're gonna pay the Bill. It's true. I mean last we saw Patrick Mahomes once again, put up a great performance, and the defense just wasn't able to get it done. You you look at the chiefs losing to the chargers losing the patriots lose into the Rams. They struggled against the best teams on their schedule. But do you believe that offense is still good enough to win them a few playoff games? I think that if you look at the Kathy cheese say I wouldn't wanna play them in the playoff. Yeah. You're probably say the same thing about the Baltimore Ravens in when teams are playing well at the end of the season. That's the way it should be. There shouldn't be a team that you go. I wait those guys in the post even 'cause I know where send out something. Anyway, is that when you get to the final toil when you were playing with the Buffalo Bills in in bit went, obviously the bills went to four Super Bowls. You were part of three those teams was there was that even happening then I mean was was the offense defensive balance still true back in the nineties, and it's still true today. The one constant the NFL's really head over the last few decades. Well, I think that the NFL is a lot like the NBA. Now, if you get a stop at the end of the first half a stop in the fourth quarter, you got a chance with a with a decent offense to win the ballgame. You know, there aren't going to be a lot of shootouts, but they were with the Los Angeles Rams independent cheese were both teams score fifty points. Just not gonna have it. You're going to have more typical day that are twenty four twenty eight thirty one twenty four games like that where? Yeah. The mall if some excitement and assessing, but you've got to get that stuff. At the end of the first half gotta get that stop in the fourth quarter, James left and joining us here on the rich Eisen show James cures. There's a big play in the Steelers game a tough call made on Joe Haden pass interference in the end zone that really swung the balance of that game in the favor of the New Orleans. Saints laid has the NFL officiating is there. A decline in the quality the. -ficiating you're seeing on the field over the last handful of years, or is it always we all just more aware because of what we have the access to these days. I get the great opportunity to sit in their line lounges with the fficials after games as well. Late non-flight to go back home in each direction having been a coach in the one thing. I know that I think the issue might be better than ever. What has happened is the league has asked them to make call..

"Here's the greatest gift we could ever give you a chance to latch on with another playoff team a week before the playoffs begin instead of being forced to watch anything that the Redskins put out there. You get. This is your penalty you're free from this sinking ship here is a life vest. Now. That'll teach him. I mean, really this is also kind of like the guy in your fantasy football league who's out of the playoffs. So he's starts cutting dudes deejays winter can help someone DJ's. We're going to go on a roster and it's going to make them better football team. Now, what they should have done if they really wanted to punish DJ swear. We'll pay you we we don't want to turn this into a circus. But just stay away you're done playing football for this year. Now, maybe he decides to wait it out, anyways and doesn't sign with him. I don't know what's going to happen. But I just think it's kind of funny that their way of punishing DJ swear injure is by giving him a life vest from their sinking ship. So that's the Washington Redskins this morning, and we'll see what happens with deejays were who's a decent player. He's. He's now on this was his fourth team. He played for the cardinals prior to this. And there were some similar locker room issues and ultimately found his way to the Washington Redskins will see alternately TJ swear insurance up anywhere whatsoever. Now, let's talk about a couple of other playoff scenarios. I didn't get to in the in the first segment. I'll I wanna make sure I mentioned the Philadelphia Eagles Nick foles because Nick foles is incredible. I don't know that we've ever had a quarterback like Nick foles do what he is done in the month of December January sauce that yesterday while watching the NFL network that perfectly summed up Nick foles and what he has done in. How unique it is over the last two December's January's. He here's a guy in his career. Actually that's ten in four in those months with an eighty four percent completion Senate completion percentage twenty four touchdown passes and seven interceptions. That's just. Since twenty thirteen in the months of December and the post-season. That's how good he is. Now, I don't know if eagles are going to get in the playoffs. They need some help. The Vikings are also battling it out last night. The Seattle Seahawks. Therein, they're likely five seed, but it is remarkable that the eagles if they get into the playoffs. Nobody wants to play him too tight ends wreaking havoc. You've got a couple of wide receivers that are starting to make more plays. Now that Nick foles is in there. That's a team that I would imagine the rest of the NFC is really hoping misses the playoffs because they are starting to play some really good football. So plenty of scenarios still at play. Lots to be decided joining me here on the rich Eisen show. Now, he is a hall of fame wide receiver. You hear him a Westwood One broadcast.

"Beautiful Christmas Eve to you and your family. We're going to spend it talk in some football. Some MBA James Lofton will join me momentarily hall of fame wide receiver his thoughts on this readily, shifting competitive landscape in the NFL where the first two and a half months was all about offense of domination. And then the last three weeks has been about running the football playing tough defense. We'll find out which one will win out in the long run this year when James Lofton of Westwood One joins us coming up in a few minutes a couple of things here before we get to that. First of all Washington Redskins safety DJ swearing jer. Just informed. Washington DC radio show that he was called into Jay gruden's office earlier this morning and promptly cut from the Redskins. This comes after the Redskins lost to the Tennessee titans on Saturday. It was the first. Game of Saturday's doubleheader and DJ swinger was not happy about losing to Blaine gabbert member earlier in the year when the Green Bay Packers lost to the lowlier Zona cardinals. And they responded by firing their head coach their Super Bowl winning head coach Mike McCarthy like an hour later as he was pulling out of the parking lot there. Don't worry about coming into work tomorrow, you're fired and you just pulled out left. I don't think that's how it happened. But it funnier to me if that's the way it was it sort of similar if you if you lose to Blaine gabbert, the NFL is not going to respond. Well, DJ swear injured did not respond. Well, and he was upset about it. He criticized the coaching staff pointedly about it and instead of suspending him or something after calling the coaching staff decisions, quote horrible the Redskins called him into the coach's office and cut them today. Now, DJ swear injure is a starting caliber safety in the NFL. And there are a few teams right now that could use starting caliber safety or at least depth with rosters decimated by injury. I would imagine there will be a handful of teams desperately trying to find a way to get DJ swear injure on their roster before week seventeen. Whether that's the Dallas Cowboys, the Baltimore Ravens, whomever. It may be this is like doing DJ swear, injure a favor. This is when you know, a franchise is just sort of dysfunctional. They try to send a message to their veteran safety who criticize publicly the coaching staff. They're trying to work tough. We won't tolerate that around here..

"So we call them the gab, man. And you have the gab men may be starting maybe Marcus mariota. Maybe some sort of tag teamed duo where when Marcus mariota's, you know, on the mat getting stomped around, and then he climbs and scrawls over to the to the ropes and tags in the gab men comes in and cleans house. So you've got Tennessee Indianapolis winning and that will be the Sunday night football weeks matchup, and honestly, I have no real complain about that it's a fine game winning in there's drama, but I actually have a different solution that has no chance of ever happening. So it's a waste of everyone's time, but I'm gonna give it to you. Anyway, I wished the NFL in the year two thousand eighteen was four. Forward thinking enough to say, you know, what? Instead of Indianapolis, Tennessee who are battling for the six seat in the AFC and likely sacrificial lamb at some point in the playoffs. Why don't we take Cleveland Baltimore and Cincinnati at Pittsburgh? They're both the Sunday night football game. And we do a little mini red zone between the two of them. Just let Scott Hanson take over from the NFL network and instead of being forced to watch India, Tennessee, which you know, again, not to franchises that have a ton of emotional investment from people outside those two cities. What do we take Cleveland at Baltimore Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and they kick off at the same time on Sunday night football. And you could have got to announcing crews for both. We'll find the second Senate football crew, very easy, logistically, I'm just making things up now. And then have Scott Hanson, go back and forth when the incredible when that'd be more fun than watching India, Tennessee, go six. Eighteen to nine in the fourth quarter, and there's five turnovers. And it's it's you know, it's is what it is. It's significant. But it's probably not gonna be that entertaining. I would rather have the first Sunday night football weeks teen double header, and we just bounce back and forth between the two cities. We go to Pittsburgh when they're something significant happening. There we go to Baltimore. There's a huge play put it on tape. I know that we'll go to it in a second. Just like Scott Hanson dozen the red zone this. That's that's what should have inspired the Sunday night football decision. Stead? Those teams will battle of out in the afternoon, and we will get week seventeen. Indy at Tennessee coming up on the rich Eisen show. I'm mention New England. You are going to miss them when they're gone, but something happened this weekend that rarely if ever has happened in the Bill Belichick era and not a lot of people were talking about it. I'll tell you what it is. And James Lofton hall of fame wide receiver will join me his thoughts on whether ofensive schemes will take over the postseason or whether the NFL will revert back to the norm, and it will be defense and running football that carries the day..

"And we've just left with robots doing celebration dances in the end zone. We will never have officiating perfection now. The one against the Steelers was particularly egregious because a lot of times officiating mistakes, you kind of have to draw. You know, it's it's like it's not a totally symmetrical line between the blown officiating. Call and the outcome of the game usually have to be some detours along the way, but that play and that penalty almost assuredly swung the game for the saints. Now Steelers still had a chance to go down and tied. Juice miss Schuster playing wearing a Cape as a fantasy football hero for everybody. That hadn't still on his roster put up an ice game double digit catches over one hundred yards but fumbling on that final possession that costs the Steelers chance. And I honestly I would love to know from Steelers fans, would you rather have lost and be able to at least complain about. The officials is that preferable to that game coming down to a Chris Boswell kick in New Orleans with the game on the line because he's been rough this year he made some kicks in that game. I'm sure they would rather. Have the chance to win. But one way or another. I imagine Steeler fans. We're going to be unhappy this morning, but that game lead us to the Steelers week seventeen status being up in the air and the entire AFC north if you rewind all the way to Saturday the Baltimore Ravens who according to Peter King of NBC sports. The Baltimore Ravens are running the football. Sixty four percent of their offense of place. Sixty four percent of their offense of place or running the ball. They've got the number one defense. They're running the ball and historic rates. Lamar Jackson is five and one is a starter. And the Baltimore Ravens in Pittsburgh. Steelers are going to battle it out in week seventeen not head to head. But they are vying for the AFC north championship and a spot in the playoffs. So that's an interesting scenario because you've got the Pittsburgh Steelers are hosting the. Cincinnati Bengals an arch-rival of theirs. And the Baltimore Ravens are hosting the Cleveland Browns. The Steelers are desperately cheering for the Browns because playoff scenarios make for strange bedfellows. And that duo of games to me is the most interesting fallout of this of this weekend. But it's not the week seventeen Sunday night game that will be the battle for the sixty Indianapolis Tennessee winning. You're in Indianapolis goes on the road. They're seven and one in their last date, Tennessee hosts their six in into Marcus mariota, suffered another injury Blaine gabbert affectionately known as the gab man entered and saved the day. We call them the gab man around here because these he has to he had to have a superhero name because every stop that Blaine gabbert has made in his career people have believe, you know, what Blaine gabbert s-. I think blink ever might be good coaches. For an offices fan bases. Or somehow all convinced the Blaine gabbert was gonna somehow become the first round quarterback that he was selected to be and he never has been, but he's a pretty good backup..

"The dot com. Breaking down those highlights, and we will preview Christmas day in the NBA and Andy Vanoy in the third and final hour from the QB will get his thoughts on these teams battling still for the play offs. And which teams may be talent. And momentum wise have the advantage going into week seventeen. That's all later in the show right now. Let's just recap week sixteen before we start talking about weeks seventeen couple of huge performances. A couple of clinches that happened over the weekend. And a couple of scenarios that are still yet to be played out. First of all start with the fact the New England Patriots. They clinch they're going to get a bye for the ninth straight year. This is an unbelievable juggernaut. People are tired of the patriots and a lot of ways and a lot of people have taken joy and sort of pointing out their struggles this year, and this is not the best version of the patriots we've ever seen. But if you can look at this team and say this is maybe the worst incarnation of that franchise in the last ten twelve years minus the Brady injury season. Still a hell of a season. Clinching the division. Brady's over four thousand yards. He's going to get too close to thirty touchdown pets. He's already there. It's an unbelievable year. But we have such an incredible threshold for the patriots. So they clinch the. Cowboys clinched as well in the NFC east second time in three years third time in five years. You know what I heard that stat? I thought to myself three division shape in chips and five years is a really nice run. That's I was almost taken aback by that that they've been that successful. Now, the NFC east hasn't exactly been a bastion of consistency. The last few years, but it did produce the Super Bowl champ. But the Cowboys have owned that division the last five years they made one of the best. If not the best NC's neck was issues in a long time when they acquired a Maury Cooper, which was pilloried for weeks after they gave up a first round. And we just all myself included setback, and sort of mock the Cowboys forgiving up the first round pick and actually celebrated the raiders for a few days lo and behold, the Cowboys have been successful. They're successful this year. They nailed that trade their team that very few people wanna play. Play late vanish is a guy that nobody wants to see on the opposing side if if you're playing offense so the Cowboys much to celebrate on this christmasy also this weekend. There was some interesting numbers. Some records fell. We'll talk about that in a few minutes. But as far as playoff scenarios we have one last weekend. And as such we found out late yesterday. What these Sunday night football option will be next week for the NFL. And there are a couple of interesting scenarios. Right. You had the Steelers heartbroken in New Orleans for all intents and purposes the Steelers outplayed the saints for the majority of that game and should have one. Now, the -ficiating was a problem. The Joe Haden passenger Fearance in the end zone was a terrible call, you know, let me just head off the officiating rant at the past year. From those Steeler fans. Listen, I get it be upset. We all just have to understand that. -ficiating across all levels of sport. There is a built-in margin of human air. Sometimes you're going to be on the receiving end, positively of that human error. Sometimes they're going to be on the receiving end. Negatively of that, it it really is. Nobody wants to admit there is no perfect solution. There is nothing that will make everybody happy every time. We think the NFL does something to improve -ficiating and actually creates more confusion every time the adn additional layer of review or expand review people. What more plays reviewed people will not be happy until they get officiating perfection, which will never happen. Unless you want every snap of every game across the season, basically, analyzed by algorithms and robots and then eventually they would just take over anyway..
