"Arizona to go to a to a meeting that he had there and he stopped by and we were actually at the time talking about soil moisture. Meters i wanted to buy a certain brand is soil moisture meter because i thought it had a good disease model and he said well. What disease would you like to model. The most and i said well probably powdery mildew because we really struggle powdery mildew so he bowed his head a little bit then he looks looks me straight in the eye and says but who tells the soil moisture meter in the model that you just applied canned seventeen. I said well what do you mean. He's so he starts explaining to me. What nitrate fertilisers do in the plant. And how you know. That's probably the biggest reason that i see. Powdery mildew whenever i when i see it it took me a little while i had to go home and think about it but generally we started having to sprayed for powdery mildew two weeks after every cans of teen application so it. It was a little bit frustrating. In as i've gone along in my journey towards regenerative agriculture. I find that ninety five to ninety nine percent of my issues that i've been dealing with have been self inflicted and that's extremely frustrating. But it's rewarding to see that we can turn this thing around while that's quite a story the one thing that i couldn't point to that clearly in our operation historically as that directive correlation that we apply ex and then we have a disease problem a few weeks later. Maybe that's just the case because we were constantly applying a whole bunch of different things whole bunch of different nutrients in creating all types of accessible relatives. It wasn't an exact aha moment it to for the longest time we were applying in it was kind of by the calendar. We didn't realize it so there was a point whenever the plant especially with chili peppers. So we would go through the first couple of fertility. Applications with nitrogen would use thirty two percent u. n. Thirty two and then once we got to the point where we had started setting blooms than we would convert it over to can seventeen in always generally fell about the same point in the calendar. And so they're in lied. The fungicide application having to start a couple of weeks later. We didn't realize we thought it was more of a calendar issue than it was the application issue in until that consultants did there in explained to me what helped plant stress with nitrate fertilisers. I mean i was just blown away. I have a similar story about mike. Risa new. I told you the story but the listeners might wanna hear it. So i had a another fertility expert that came from missouri and we went out. We were soil sampling and we were talking about different applications of this and that because we were. I've i've been struggling for years john. We were on a collision course with the ground. I mean there was. There was actually talks about about selling the farm because we just could not. We could not rescue profitability in. We didn't understand why so we started looking at every single possibility..

"Hi friends this is john. And this is the region of agricultural podcast where we talk about the economic science and the cultural management practices that regenerate plant health soil health and public health and that should also regenerate farm profitability. I'm very happy today. To have james johnson here as a guest. James and i have known each other now for think maybe three or four years. Something like that. James is an eight-year customer. Just want to put that out there so all of your aware. He has been very gracious and sharing his story in some of the work that we're doing at eight year a and he has a really incredible story so i wanted to have him here to share that with all of you as well james. Thank you very much for being here today. Can you offer a little bit of context for audience. Tell us a little bit about your personal story and background the scope of your farming operation and the work that you're doing in the context of what's going on. Thanks for inviting me john. I'm humbled by the fact that you you felt it My story was worthy of being told on his platform. So i'm a fourth generation farmer here in southwest new mexico. Our operation started off as a cattle ranch in in the nineteen fifties during the drought much. Very similar to what we have today. They started drilling irrigation. Wells trying to grow feed for the cows ultimately backed in the farming kept the ranch afloat. They started off producing cattle-feed switched over started producing at that point canning tomatoes moved into grain sorghum cotton and then we've diversified over the years into onions chili peppers pecans pistachios and during certain years. We've we've grown. Watermelons pumpkins spinach lettuce. There's we have a very different micro-climate here are elevation. Is forty three hundred feet. So even though that we're at a real south latitude we still tend to get cold in the wintertime. We have about two hundred twenty two degree prostrate days that allow us to have a pretty diverse crop..
Bucks survive shaky free-throw shooting to edge Mavs 112-109
"On this night it was Chris Middleton who guided the way he made two huge three pointers down the stretch leading the box to a one twelve one oh nine win over the Mavericks young the son of a couple let the Bucks in scoring with thirty one but it was Milton who scored eight of his twenty five in the final two one half minutes to seal the win Middleton's three with two twenty one left gave the box to leave for good Milton says his teammates do he had the hot hand we're unselfish enough and smart enough to know who has the hot hand and and I think we all kind of just the job in making the right play the maps took a brief lead with about three minutes left on James Johnson reporter look at Dutch it's led the mavs with twenty eight points Chuck Friedman Milwaukee

"Okay it's not for sale though. Okay anyways you're wrong because it's their seventh in pick and roll points because the ball handler. How am i suppose right on the money or no like. Can you give me like thin. A five point. Can you say the mavericks our top dumb it down for you. Guess off the top of my head. The exact number. That's the game ok. Well they move on They they score point nine six points per possession for the ball handler in a pick and roll interesting next. The mavericks are twenty third those mississippi. I kept it up. So they're not top twenty five there twenty thirty. It'd catch and shoot field. Goal percentage fake their twenty fifth. No it's true man. They shoot thirty three point three percent on catch and shoot shot. I'm surprised that high. So in comparison the bucks are first they shoot forty six percent so the maps are twenty-third. Tell me the bucks got actual basketball players. Yeah and because of that. They're good they can actually make shot. Yeah a consistent basis who would have thought. Yeah yeah and they pay these guys. They pay them more than one year. In fact they even made a trade off mine. God better but what about their salary cap space. I don't know because they re signed jaanus so does not on expiring deal neither through holiday now now. They're actually signed long-term baseline all mine. Actually you know what. I think you holiday handed player a massive. Oh that's that under that. I understand it now. That explain okay. So yet twenty-third. There's only seven teams. That are worse than them in catch and we've seen that lake. Luca could average double digits. If guys would just make this frigging shots. Double digit assist if guys are just. Make these frigging shots. Let's get to the next one. I'm gonna get wrong. The mavericks are six in steals per game at nine point six per minute say real yes. It is a they nine point. Six per game is fifty six percent increase from last. So that's one of the only bright spots. I've noticed this year is because well one james johnson. Josh richardson again. It's not all about that. Defensive rating like he makes defensive ways james johnson. This one thing. That's been fun to watch. Is like their defense is good and stretches but they also make fun. Plays on defense and not that. They're gambling for seals. I'm not saying. I wanted to just as good on ball. Defense and they force turnovers. And that's just it's awesome to see all right next. The mavericks are fifteenth in rebound percentage. Selamat they gotta be dead by. So i mean that is fake and because it's fake. I want to sell my own personal stock in it. Because they're not that good it you're right it is false. They're not dead last through. Twenty fifth in rebound percentage meaning so they suck of the of the rebounds that are available to them that they suck the percentage that they grab. They are twenty fifth in the league. So yeah so. They're like looking at the ball and then they have their team kits. They can't grab it. Okay next pterodactyl okay. Maxi is top. Ten in three point percentage will at forty seven point. Four percent top ten. See this i can do that. Is real and i'm.

"Which the moms if you're doing porzingis and dorian and hardaway and whatever there's not a lot of string not a lotta muscle on that team and i think james johnson adds a little bit more muscle a little bit more strength. He's not gonna get bullied by or lebron he can still guard wings. You'll think he'll be guy guards them. Yes yeah yeah. I think that was one thing like with dorian. He here's a good defender but yeah. His frame is a little smaller. So a lot of times you would have maxi gardening local guys like that and my other point to that is when you do play bigger teams. You don't have to change your lineup. Yeah yeah and you play the lakers. You can keep james johnson because he can also guard. Anthony davis yeah. And so i think that's why james johnson ultimately in my opinion should be the opening day starter. I'm not saying he's a great player. But i just think for the fit in with the manager trying to do james johnson should be the starting for porzingas. The starting five he can guard. Anthony davis really you think so better than dorian well better than pow but was dorian even guarding. Anthony davis. Well when you played the lakers have to change their lineup. Of what i'm saying is you don't wanna be in a situation where you have to adjust to the other t. Make the other team suggest to you. Make the other team adjusts that hugh. So i think if you have james johnson out there as you're starting four than he can be the guy guarding power forwards whether they're big powerful words or whether they're wing powerful words. Yeah he's so he. Enduring are the same height. they're both six seven but during at least he's listed as wing two hundred and twenty pounds compared to james johnson. Two hundred and forty pounds an extra twenty pound as much as well to twenty to thirty. I know that is really bad. That's all muscle though. Yeah right it's all good. You're a very much. Just stop so anyways but stretch me out to six seven and pencil a really now. Can we edit that outerly just gonna roll so yes to twenty to be six. Seven is really skinny guy. That twenty extra pounds helps you with the.

Kelly olympic. He was jettisoned by bossom because of the Gordon Hayward contract they needed make room in the Miami Heat signed Kelly Olympic to a contract, it's actually fairly reasonable. He played up to that level last year. And he's had his moments this season last night being one of them. Miami Heat win that transaction. They lost out on Gordon Hayward. Gordon Hayward goes a boss and misses an entire season. Gordon Hayward actually probably having his best week as a Boston Celtic this week. But the Miami Heat actually one that transaction getting Kelly Olympic who had to be kicked off the roster to make room for Gordon Hayward. I would agree with what you're saying. I would also say it's a sad. Sad state for Miami, Heat basketball, and what you felt about this team that that's what you're celebrating while the warriors get Kevin Durant. Like, that's sort of part of the problem. You're right. That's fine. It's a small tiny victory that Gordon Hayward didn't fail and get injured here. It's the same as celebrating the line of the two thousand and one hurricanes and celebrating the seventy two dollars greatest offensive line. History. Okay. But it was a big win and get us into that eighth seed it was a big win. And I wish they they're not playing look, man. Mike playing good basketball lately, they the loss to Houston. They blew that game. Wait, they would have had back to back wins against Golden State in Houston. They planned drug each and James Johnson out when they were the center of just about everything you were doing last season. And you know, they they could be a sixty if they were healthy they haven't been healthy. Jim James Johnson has been totally underwhelming this year. Right. Yeah. That I think that's low key been the worst contract that they signed. And we were worried about it because I want you said that low right there, and we'll well because I'm definitely afraid of Josh what he was great last year. He was great for them last year. He was value for them last year waiters has been bad to you can't say the waiters contract. It's been good. Like if the Jayme at least James Johnson is working at least. He's not embarrassing. You by not doing rehabbing Johnson hasn't. Quite recaptured the form ever really of that contract. You're he was incredible. I mean, he was energy guy off the bench. She was a great defender. There were ridiculous comparisons made to Braun in terms of just playmaking ability at that size and ability to defend the proper response coop who could have possibly made those ridiculous comparison. How are you more afraid of him than than you done this because you're out here? Badmouthing Utah who would win would wanna fight donnas have Leonard James James Johnson's trained. If you were forced to pick, which would you give up movies or television shows Matthew will start with you? I'm going to have to go with movies because I was thinking about this. And I I think TV shows are I went I would give up TV shows and keep movies sorry. Because TV shows I think are very nice. To kind of live in a world. But I think movies tend to inspire me more than I don't think many TV shows as super inspirational where sometimes movies really make you think and stick with you for a long time. First of all, Mike, you're a monster. Second of all I think I think I would have to keep the TV shows if only because I watch a lot more TV that I do movies. Then again on the flip side, if I gave up TV shows are probably a lot more time. No, I'll give movies sad as it would be. Wow. I was not expecting that from Dan James about you. So do I kill to who? Or do. I kill Stals modern TV shows are really just ten movies at this point. There's no effective difference. Other than budget. But I won't I won't let you make me choose between them. You know? I Don said, you're amongst kill them. All it's on your hands. I love it. You're gonna now you're going to have an outfit made of film reels. And I don't know what TV shows would be for me. I would talked before I'm not really a movie person, I tend to not enjoy films all that much. But there are TV shows that I very much like in. "I guess. That's the thing. I suppose. I got nothing. Good. It's like maybe you could trade Jrue holiday for James Johnson. And Josh Richardson that works it. Works says no one there is painted dogs playing poker. The heat our team that we didn't bring up there in the end Davis sweepstakes. This is going to try and James Johnson. And Josh Richardson for CJ McCollum makes the blazers. I do think a little bit better defense. You get something different. And you get a guy in Miami C J McCollum, you can at least say has a higher ceiling than anybody. That's on the roster for the heat. But again, why would you do? Defense a lot of that defense that should be something that should be an option in the dropdown menu. Something different something different goes to the Miami holidays. Hollinger analysis doesn't say like plus eight wins. It's like new team getting material. That's interesting. That's true. Positive affirmations throws it you did it you did it. Let's pallet cleanser here and think about drew holiday to the Mavs. Yeah, they wanna get rid of Dennis Smith. So dense myth goes back to the pelicans. You get a little young gunner there that maybe might work out Costa statistic who gets thrown in there. Wesley Matthews contract that they wanted to get rid of. So it's basically drew holiday for Dennis junior a young Toco and Wesley Matthews Matthews. Just throwing unfortunately for west but trying to get rid of Dallas pick has to get. It would be a maps type player. They would get a guy who's got a superstar. But very very good. Pair him with Luca. No problem. I think so in the best got to he's off to the left on his deal hasn't he drew plus up player option. I think unfortunately, I don't have color twenty one twenty two option might sound. Like, you think this is? Threes. It's a lot. Three or there's a lot. That was. I mean that was them trying to keep Anthony Davis happy. I mean, we're. That's what I'm saying. If you trading full that you're like. I think it's all right Lucas on a small contract. Your backward is him and drew. But that could be the problem, though, if you'll Luke say, you see a move like this, and this is the one that comes back to watch and a few years when it's like. So you went out, and you go to you go to drew holiday who didn't really move the needle that much. Then you just getting those sort of veteran mid veteran players who are not great Luca once that legit star that he can. Massar. Correct. Run their sort of slipping now here in the Western Conference standings. They're not they're not to the pelicans level down there yet where where it looks like they're out of the playoffs. And I don't know how thing get back because there's so many teams between them and get in there. But they're starting to slide that way they're sellers pretty much unless you get like, drew holiday. I mean, they're gonna picks they're not selling Luca unlikely. But otherwise, I think everybody sort of on the table, right? Did you see Marcus all talk to the media last night grizzlies blue? Twenty five point lead in the second half. But six minutes going to flirt quarterback. We'll have the nuggets in our pickup play. I was ready to go on the dock and like that's an x-ray everybody. I mean, somehow we were wrong about that one the grizzly showed up and then come back and win it. So we got the game there. But he man he sounds like a guy that could maybe have played his last game in Memphis because I believe they have a road trip. Just reading the tea leaves here is this what he's saying. He's basically he's admitting like, hey, train me if you guys get some good pieces back. I get it. And if you don't trae me say in the good, the right things of all I'll be here, and I'll play hard and mentor, whatever you need me to do. But I don't know. I speak shocked. Don't try one of these guys. They said like all right. You both you both trying but they would have never lost game. A couple years ago up big just they would have just run Casale. Conley last night. I just the the nuggets just came back very easily. Like gangbusters?.

"May more than once or twice that for the past four months the miami heat trace says maybe talk a little bit about the heat only if you think they deserve it then i heard the rant about generic praise and yet we've won six in a row were tuna against the celtics three games back from the cavs in the standings missing five rotation players james johnson's been out dion waiters justise winslow rodney mcgruder and okara white i'll start here ben so we have a we have a coworker named rowe han not carney ana si and he's we talked to him pretty frequently and after every heat win he charges in to the group chat and talks about how they won with half their rotation missing and it's always hard for me to take seriously because you don't get to claim you one without like oh white or justise winslow or rodney mcgruder because those players aren't actually good so so it's not impressive that they heat are playing shorthanded if the players they're missing are bad but beyond that one complain about heat discourse they've been pretty awesome and they like there are a team that i think a lot of people wrote off after the first couple of weeks of the season because it they started ugly and immediately this past offseason look like a mistake and everyone just sort of politely averted their eyes because it was depressing especially after they were so much fun towards the end of last season but they look pretty good right now well i liked your criticism off the top wood fortunately though you muzzle did you know you kind of smothered it a little bit where you were supposed to go when you were naming does names of who they have and had where you're supposed to do is is take a shot at the biggest fish and that's dionne waiters idled big you get any credit for winning games without dion raiders have you seen his numbers this year and look one reason why i'm going to bring this up his because you know sources close to a more pretty upset about.
