and surprising but Hey listen what we say does it better to be lucky than good so the latest news that has come out is very very interesting and it's funny because drivers are talking the break this is something Sam Mitchell talked about years ago and I've always been waiting for but you know there there had to be the right platform for this to happen so California high school star basketball player Jaylen green who's the number one prospect in the ESPN top one hundred for twenty twenty one repeat that Jaylen green the number one prospect in the ESPN one hundred pop star in the ESPN one hundred for twenty twenty is not going to go to college to play basketball no he's making the leap to a reshaped MBA professional pathway program a G. league initiative that sources say will pay a lead prospects five hundred thousand plus dollars and provide a one year development program outside of the traditional G. league team structure now green who was looked at as a potential number one overall pick in the twenty twenty one draft announced Thursday that he's bypassing college to become the professional pathways first participant I decision that likely clears the way for more commitments from elite prospects says his decision to join the NBA G. development program for twenty twenty twenty twenty one has broad implications for the future of the NCAA and NBA landscape NBA commissioner Adam silver jubilee president Sharif up to redeem remember him one time hawk but more portly is Wheeler high school right Jarvis did that right he went to the door he went to Wheeler high school right in Marietta yeah yeah so I thought yeah they've worked eliminate two massive hurdles to convincing players under arrest because basketball to pass in the lucrative NBA all star the national basketball league of Australia by providing a massive salary increase in the structure does not include playing full top of Julie what what wait wait a second hold on Jarvis what everybody yeah but I I thought their student athletes I thought about going to get your education and all that kind of stuff I I thought that's what was all about but if this can't be true right Mr student athletes that's why they're going to college or to understand that's why they get sweat pants and three meals a day don't you understand they're they're they're they're trying to get their education all okay okay Ben Simmons trying to get his education right okay all right you know this league the best part about this league is talking about its development but also the fact that former NBA coach of the year Sam Mitchell is expected to be as one of the candidates to lead the team now you know how I feel about Sam my radio partner for a year I love Sam to death I think he's an NBA lifer I can tell you personally yeah this is not any bigger share news CM really when Sam was coaching in Minnesota he really enjoyed coaching younger guys and he was really hoping to get into collegiate basketball and you know he's in Memphis for year with penny and I'm not sure how that all worked out but coaching young players is really what Sam wants to do and if you know Sam he's a don't hold back take no prisoners kind of guy he's you know he's gonna tell you exactly how it is and if you seen some of the videos that he's got a you know of late that you know some people show about you know him they don't care about you and you know that yeah he tells it like it is but your side from that you know he'd be a great choice then you have the NBA when we talk about the one and done okay always remember that's not college basketball's fault I'm not faulting college basketball for that that's what the NBA created when they said our age limits going to be eighteen to play and they have the right to do that and that could play the NBA before your R. nineteen I should say nineteen this year before you're nineteen years old so it led to okay where do kids go to film a year of basketball before they get in the NBA well guess what you can either go to Australia over season play which is a lucrative league Europe for a year I guess you know if you will is obviously some European players you look at dot you can guys like that that played you know overseas there OR you go to a traditional college and that you do a one year one and done type scenario yeah but wait a second I thought they were student athletes that this goes back to listen when we have this debate about you know pairs being played earning money and all that because of that I always try to tell you you know you're kidding yourself if you think those kids are there for their education and things like that they can go do what Marcus Camby and a bunch of these guys have done is years down the road after they're done playing in making money then I can go get my degree and say Hey I graduated from UMass yeah my degree so I how many years now have I come on the radio said their amateur athletes because that's the vehicle that they're using is college basketball now I did it in a lot of coaches agree with this I do think college I do think one and done is bad for college basketball I do think it's a bad thing for collegiate basketball I understand the NBA doesn't want an influx of guys who are ready to play they don't want a bunch of various models and Kwame brown's and guys like that that aren't ready to play in the NBA yep not not everybody's lebron and Kobe and garnet yeah there's a there's a whole crap ton of Darius miles and Kwame brown and guys like that that that were never ready to play in the NBA but because they could come out of high school and and go do it you know Hey man go go cash in to take the money you're gonna be a topic in yeah you talk about a kid that's gone from thirty games made twenty five thirty games to now it's got eighty two games in a man's legal and he's not physically developed yet I mean I get all of that but the one and done has not been good for college basketball and in some ways at the end of our buddies parties listening he's gonna get offended by this it's kind of made a little bit of a mockery of college basketball in some ways you you know every week and this is on the campus of Kansas for one year no doubt no question no thought process about everything else you know you've got him for one year and you also know that all you gotta do is get him eligible for spring make sure you pass your classes in the fall make sure you handle your business in the fall and be eligible for spring then it doesn't matter then you can focus all on basketball from there just stay eligible for that fall semester and then go from there and I think it has kind of made a mockery basketball because you're looking at these kids and saying help Ben Simmons doesn't want to be there but he's got to be there because for a lot of guys reality isn't we're gonna pack up and move for a year you know it's I it's not like you know it's not like Vito Corleone landing at at the my brain went dead where the statue of liberty as Staten Island are you know step yeah Vito Corleone is landing on a boat five years old by himself with no relatives get shoved onto a boat no that's not yeah I can just send your kid often have no support structure anything so it's not realistic you just send somebody to Australia for a year and get ready for the NBA you needed something in in America and that's with his G. league of that's was the developmental league that's what we've been waiting for that's what mark Cuban has talked about putting money into what why have kids go through a farcical college season when they truthfully could be more caring for what their future is and that's the NBA and this and it's always been the same thing it's always been about how much money can these kids make now five hundred thousand dollars that's a pretty hefty price tag it to keep kids here to do that I think the average help me if I'm wrong jobs the average G. league players about fifty to seventy five grand I think somewhere in that range but it's under a hundred grand that's it the even that if you if you said a top yeah but I mean that does some of the top guys make fifty to seventy five or something like that or is everybody make the same averages thirty five okay so right so even if you told a kid he could come in for a year maybe two years if he's not ready make thirty five fifty grand let's say hello it's still better than going to Kansas for a year and I gotta go to school for the fall and I got to be eligible all but you understand you agree the experience of being on college I get that I've been this someone's college I've been to Gainesville Florida Knoxville Tennessee I would yeah I've been Orlando on on central Florida's campus in party input I was yeah balsam that's their goal I wasn't going to the NBA I wasn't going to the NFL I don't have listed I don't have bigger fish to fry them Hey I'm hanging out in Gainesville Florida for the weekend to watch central Florida in Florida with him people play but these kids are so I'm excited about this I think this is great this is how it should be.

"For the care of the Saturday morning news a little more than a year after the tragedy that was the shooting death of both Ms awed by convicted murderer ever Geiger former Dallas police officer another African American children are home I'd have to have a Jefferson a week ago today while playing a video game with a nephew shot by a fort worth police officer now ex officer Erin dean former army to this is the police chief in current cedar hill ISD police chief James Hawthorne is with me this morning and chief off toward a year after the fact what could have or should of law enforcement agencies in North Texas have learned from the Geiger scenario and instilled in perhaps inculcated in their officers and included in their procedures that may have mitigated what happened to this Jefferson I don't think anybody would disagree with that going to a welfare check the check open door should not result in all more and that that just never happened and so from a policing standpoint it makes you as the as the person in charge of the agency reflect the cold you know what exactly are we don't and I training is one thing but but let's look further than the training what is the actual practice because we may be training thing and one thing and find out that the behavior on the street is is contradictory to what we're trying to so how do we correct that what kind of the training do we offer a what kind of accountability measures that we put in place to make sure that what we're training people to do the actually doing out there in the field let's make sure that we're doing the right thing and we have the right accountability things in place the catch things early on identify offices who may be bad offices of all those who just don't belong in the profession have you seen adequate diversity in the decision making positions controversial statement that out about make no but I think when you look at policing and this is just my opinion you know but historically we've not had good relationships with minority communities and and I would be even go a step further to say that in some instances of some agencies there been biases ale by people in key positions in and and historically we we just have not for the most part they don't apply to every agency but you know we we have work to do do not said that I'll say it is we worked very hard over the years to try to correct some of that but you know but when you have a history and it's not a good history and some of the minority communities it takes a long time to overcome that and have people think of you differently create a different perception by what you do and I think chief crowds you know said it best when he made the analogy of the ants in the pants deal we sit in it just takes one person Aug bar or one rain storm to come along and and then drop on the ant mound in their watches away and then you got to start all over I'm an African American and I grew up in a community that wasn't always apperception other please wasn't very good because of the things that our fall and but I think that helps me being a police chief Meryl because I'm cognizant of things that happened to me in the community so people can't tell me what can't happen or what didn't happen all those things that did not occur all it's just you know a group of people over here complaining and whining and yeah but there's no basis for that because I've seen it first hand so I know as is and the phone the police chief I have a responsibility of making sure that our offices are doing everything that we can to our build community trust and public trust and it and it and it's more than just lip service is more than me saying it is something that we have to Lee of every day police officers were one of the few professions that we actually at the law has given us the the ability has authorized the phone cases the take a person's life and that's that's a heavy heavy heavy responsibility that we have the one that we cannot take lightly and we have to treat it with the claim to the dead end user when we engage in those kind of situations we need to be absolutely sure how to pay more than lip service to changing the culture and the relationship between the Lisa the communities they serve she father joins us in minutes to wrap up.

"Was assistant police chief he joins us this morning to talk about another deadly officer involved shooting which resulted in a white officer killing an African American in their own home she Hawthorne do you believe race was a factor in the attack the other Jefferson case I don't know you know it is hard to say you know we all have conversations you know as in the community African Americans and we say well if this person had been of another color maybe the outcome would have been different you know but I don't know either one of those people I I know what we share about amber Geiger through the court testimony and everything that appeared as she was very very diverse minded you know through the testimony came out there but again I don't know or and and I don't know anything about this also at all but everybody comes into the job with you know we all have by right there we go through training we tried to address those biases that people have in their area trying to demonstrate through training to the police academy through scenario than the academy and he went through some things that we do in our training or so our responses to situations in police work should be based on behavior and not the way that anybody look but if you go into it and you let people appearance dictate how are you going to respond and you know you just setting yourself up for a set of would say cascading circumstances that could ultimately lead to wrong decisions being made all set this is a big lie because we're basically no this is not the only appearance and not be a we heard a lot during the Geiger trial with regard inattentional blindness to think is what the term was in short it sounded as if some of the things that officers are trained to be aware of suddenly go away at a very critical time in which they're making a decision to take a life or not and secondly is an officer's decision making altered or changed when they are in their so called and called home environment versus for example being called to a burglary or robbery because that's something that came up during the Geiger trial well I mean I just you know really out all about it I mean you're you're a police officer twenty four seven also your training doesn't go away just because you are not at work but you're all duty that's just to me this is my office your training always applies your police also twenty four seven just like your doctor twenty four your nearest twenty four seven on a certain expectation that we have a police officer all in all the duty as required by by law as required by most departmental policies and say that well as this person involved duty now so all of those things go out the window that that's just that's just not true after I get the first part of question that you had can you repeat that one in attentional blind this was what I haven't total basin and where we we teach I try to try in all this is not to have television because you have to be cognizant of your entire surround and all the circumstances you hear this all the time you know they pointed a gun at me in the the mobile ago looks like a shot gun when it's maybe a thirty eight that's because they're so focused on that particular situation that that thing that they're saying but that doesn't alleviate you engage our responsibility of being aware of all the circumstances around you because if you're going to encounter somebody at the end of fourth situation like that you want to be want to know what's happening in the periphery you know if I am in my in danger in the public by you know taking a shot are we trying offices to take those things into consideration before engaging in their lives for next hour more with cedar hill ISD police chief James Hawthorne.

"Twenty one. So you have the three wins twenty seventeen thirty to twenty nine twenty four twenty one. Then you have the giant losses. That they play seventeen fourteen out in Arizona, and then twenty one seventeen in Indianapolis. The closeness of the games again year after year. I mean, remarkable with all the games, you know, the twenty eight twenty four win over Seattle which Seattle should have won the win over Atlanta in overtime thirty four twenty eight then last year forty one thirty three they lose. So they've won two games. They won by six and overtime. They won by four and a game. They should've lost. They lost by eight. They lost by three. They lost by four. They won three other by three every one of their games has come down right to the wire. Every one of the games has been a incredibly incredibly. Close game. And you know, the last couple of times they've been in here as you know, the New England game obviously one play and that game changes if they hand the ball to the back the Atlanta game Atlanta's twenty eight to three and loses thirty four to twenty eight. And then of course, the strip sack which makes all the difference in the eagle game with the forty one thirty three performance last year in Minnesota. So every game has been so close remarkable. It really is from that standpoint. How many times the pats and and their opponent have played these airtight games? Modern summit what's up? Just about. Not James Hawthorne. Go ahead. James? So I don't know what this list is good for Pat and floor, and what's up fat? Hey, Mike, doing good. Quick comment on the Knicks question on Sean McVeigh. Hi cat. Coming on on the degree of just how the Knicks frenzy can be like even just how quickly it can happen. Like, I remember after the giant. Will vanity Trump that calibration quickly. If I remember like it started. And then the Kosei the parade they played and like instantly after that night the giant completely on the giant, and it would all make here and like even accurate. I remember it was it was the giant really it ended pretty quickly like right after that win because of. Okay. The knicks. People forget because it's been so long. The Knicks are a very big deal in New York. I mean, incredibly big deal people have no idea they just don't realize because it's been so long since it's happened. But it's I mean, I can remember I literally I judge things by how much we talk about them on the radio. I I remember in in in the years when the Knicks will good, especially the right Riley is where everything we did for months was captivated by the nets everything. I mean. Now. Listen, you're never gonna knock the Yankees off the, you know from being the Yankees when they're good or but the bottom line is. People have no, comprehension. Now. I think after because they've been so doorman for soul. Down. They've been down in dead for so long. It's been it's been such a decaying decrepit franchise, and it really has. It's almost sinful how bad they've been because they've almost been like they've been dead for fifteen years. You know, it really. No really is. It's hard for them to be that band. It's hard to be that important and be that bad. It really is. If you are, you know, the Charlotte Hornets. The pelicans. It's not hard to be that bad. I mean, you know, you you're easily forgotten the Knicks and you play in the one of.
