"That's actually a very difficult way to put it. Because if i say. I don't understand something a lot of people take that i disagree with it. There's lots of things that i don't understand that i actually think are perfectly acceptable. You go ahead and do that. I don't think you should be stopped. So people who support and believe in the concept of gender fluidity. Today i wake up a man by lunchtime woman by the evening. A man again. They accept that concept in idea. These are also the people who are members of the canceled culture. Thing it's thinking james guns thing specifically because they went back and they found a tweet from a decade ago and it was anti maybe he was a homosexual joe. I'm not sure i don't remember. But it offended people. And i get that and they said because he tweeted this ten years ago. He shouldn't be director of this movie. disney actually like took off guardians of the galaxy. Stuff like that. My problem is that if you are in a group. There's a logical issue between those two things if you haven't seen the parallel already the logical issue that you're able to accept that someone's gender can change. Let's even say our to hour or day to day but you're not willing to accept the concept or the idea that someone's opinion could change over a decade so if he said something today and it was offensive. And you got angry about that. Absolutely perfectly acceptable. But if you believe in gender fluidity if you accept that and support it then i don't think you can get angry about tweets or comments or things from ten years ago because what you're saying. Is that some people who do this thing. That i approve of is okay there. Changes are fine but these other people who say something. I don't like who don't fit sort of the formats i support. That's unacceptable even though it is possible for them to change over time. I'm thinking about stuff. I probably said or thought how i've changed. Decade did a decade. I'm going to be fifty next year. That's five decades and how of my opinions changed. 'cause it's pretty dramatic. I have always been liberal leaning. But i have gotten more and more liberal as i have grown up and i more and more accepting of divergent lifestyles and divergent ideas I still put a lot of faith and science more than anything else..

"Shoulder pads jack. We have pouches. we have here. Yeah ridiculously large weapons got and headgear that makes no sense. Also body proportions in his least is compared to help about you. Nobody is waste. I love all that stuff. It's just you could do one or two of those things all look like this look at sort is compared to how big hand. Yeah yeah no. It's the hand like just imagine the hand words grabbing his feet. There's no one's going on Gonna make it a so by the way. I figured out what that toy was back as a kid called me mugs long as bros. Oh version of fungal pots. And they went out of business. But that's shit is collectible. Now i don't know i have. I have the old avengers set. Are they crueler were. We're now No they're basically the kind of the same thing. There's there's there's no bobblehead aspect to it's much more of a rigid o'hare they are mini mugs. Figures they still owe. You could get a set of six for thirty two dollars here but they do. They look like the fun. Co pop knockoffs. Yeah they look exactly like the bunko pumps. Yeah i used to get them. Both confused was like. I said the same thing i the difference is like Funk has their distinctive stylized is no knows dots everybody bodies or more smaller. I think body while the bodies are there's a little bit more. Each body for the mini mug was about the same kind of style just painted more detail on the on the on the pops they built an empire. Okay moving on last week. Hbo max this virtual event to mark the upcoming european launch of. Hbo max europe will finally get the hbo. Max and there's a couple of cool teaser. clips that came out during this virtual event. The first one is a clip of john cena in the peacemaker show with a really quick clip. But it's also a really funny clip Kind of gives you the tone of the show where they're meeting Peacemaker for a meeting. So you see the girl. That's actually james guns wife. The girl and she was in the The movie yeah. She's in the movie and do john is also is in. The movie is in the show. And they're meeting them for dinner and shows up of course dressed as speechmaker. And they're like did he couldn't full caused for this and is there an eagle in his backseat. Yes peacemaker has a pet eagle named eagerly. Think what did you guys. Think of the tone of the comedy. I thought this is pretty fun. I'm excited to watch gave me anyways. I thought it was funny. I it's kind of fits the tone of of what we saw in peacemaker in the show in the movie and it kind of fits. John cena's like whole vibe is where he's just so serious and never went else's like dude. You look like an idiot. And he just doesn't has no blank. All the comedy comes from is. Yeah the fact. Enjoy the peacemaker in the in the movie. So i like. I like i like to spend dead if you watch the post courtesy. Obviously hopefully the show is very violent and very funny. There was a quick clip in one of their other videos where it showed him shooting at the target and he's shooting a peace sign in bullet holes on his guts. I thought was kind of money. So i love all these little these little things. These little things the show. It's about his character were. Dc can kind of.

"Yeah yeah nato they basically say it's breaking their back and they're probably yeah. I mean i don't necessarily disagree. Can i tell you like a personal thing. I love james guns movies. And i was very excited to see his new suicide squad movie but the fact that it was on. Hbo max and i could just watch. It made it too easy for me to not go to theater to see it. And here's the thing. I bet i would have enjoyed that more in the theater. And i and i really enjoy the movie. I'm not. I'm not bagging on the movie at all but i think it would have been more fun experience in the theater now. There are at the moment mitigating factors which you asked me not to mention that would prevent a lot of people from wanting to go to the movie theaters cough cough. Cough corona virus cough cough. But you damn you. i'm sorry. Sorry when they look when they look at the numbers of the suicide squad. The james gunn the suicide squad not to be confused with david. Eyres suicide squad. The box office numbers are lower than than expected. And this is all in this article and they show actually that movies like the fast and furious movie if nine which had no dane date on it made you know significantly more in in theaters. Even under the circumstances that were in in made seventy million dollars theatrically and there's a bunch of movies here that you can look at in this article to compare although black widow which did have a day and date release made eighty point four million so it actually made more than half nine with a hybrid released but that was with disney pluses premium. Thing where you can pay thirty bucks so the question is would you rather pay thirty bucks to watch it at home or whatever you know you add up the cost of parking in snacks and stuff like that to watch.

"I honestly felt some through blood sport in his interaction with the daughter and then also the interactions with peacemaker. Later on when they're trying to one up each other in their flipping each other off and that sort of thing. His interactions with those two very much to me felt a lot like jodi hill. A lot like Observing report specifically It's almost like this guy. Is that seth rogan character from observe report. But he's he's he's actually a bad ass. These not just some delusional do nothing. It's just weird because this character to me again. Maybe it's just because i'm comparing it to suicide squad. He should be the more grounded. When because we'll smith was the the more grounded the one who kind of figures out how they're being played the one that kind of is you know level headed and kinda keeps things together and and this. You don't have that the blood sport guy. He is off the rails as harley. Is i mean he's like i said his interactions with everyone even the people that he loves. His daughter are like straight out of observing reports. I could see that. I do think he is more grounded in the others. it's just. This is a much more heightened movie in a way. and maybe that's that spoof nece that you That you talk about. But it being so heightened he kinda can't be totally grounded and so he's still the leader. I'd say a of the team in in a way and he still has a little bit of the way. He carries himself right all right so i'll go to another piece here like i said another another small one. I have no idea what came first rat catcher or willard but willard as a non comics guy. I have no idea. I mean i. I've actually never seen the nineteen seventy-one original is seeing the two thousand. Three wound crispin glover. But yeah i know. I know i need to watch the original but you know a a character that can you know control rats and brings in these big swarms of cgi. Rats felt kind of similar. Let a lot of the same style i loved. Rat catcher the whole thing with the rats Is my very favorite thing about the movie. The fact that the rats are you know they are what saves the day. And i love that character again. She's she's the one that He brings innocence. And i think that that was very very much needed. She's like a you know a good person. She brings the good in innocence and she basically spreads that through the team and also that quality is what really helped i think i guess groundless movie in a way saying it wasn't really grounded by anyone and i guess she really kind of is the one that kind of grounded the fact that also bloodsport tells her that you know he's going to get her out of here alive and she's like no. I'm going to get you out of here alive. I love that bit to. You'll be happy to know. I read it interview which aims gun and in the original script. She was going to die and he was just like. I just can't do that to her. She's too good of a character. And i can't let that happen. Oh yeah no. I would've i would've been so mad at this movie first off. I said going in if he kills harley. I'm done well. I don't think they can kill harley. I mean she is just she's so damn good in this movie and they now. I'm ready for more of that character. I mean i. I already was. I've always been down for more of that character even after the first suicide squad. But i mean she's so great in. This is so fun to watch she. She really is she really shines. I think that the great thing about harley is that he has kept the progression of her character. That was one of the things i was worried of. Somebody else coming in trying to just kind of start things over no because if you look at her from suicide squad and then birds of prey and then to this and you can see the progression of her personality and also you know just Her confidence and her abilities and The scene my absolute favorite part of the movie is when we see her chained up and she singing and then that kicks off that whole part of her escape. Now yeah so get. That is absolutely my favorite part in it pulls in elements from the first suicide squad. Because she has to do. The little gymnastics moved to to get out of the chains and then also she. She has the using the environment Birds pray with the the bars and such but No i that that that. That was the best part for me. Was that also seeing it from her point of view. Yes some of that magical realism and all. Yeah yeah i. I absolutely love that. Yeah big problem here. I think with the film overall is that is the whole point of view. Because that's the thing we birds of prey is that it was all from her point of view so anything that was wacky anything that was off. It may sense because we're kind of seeing it from how she sees the world whereas this one we do get that moment where we're seeing it from her her her side but other than that moment there whose whose view of the world overseen. We're seeing james guns so we're in his head so it's kind of that's why it doesn't make sense and everything anything and everything can just be out of nowhere last because like we've already kind of said. This movie is just entertainment. It's entertainment for entertainment sake. And there is no actual plant so and i i agree with you. And that's why like when i went into this movie i saw a lot of. I saw it a few days after it opened. And i saw a lot of critics already giving it like four and a half and five star reviews and i'm just like what is happening here like this is not a four and a half or five star movie. I really liked it. And i you know i gave it three and a half on my letterbox but i i thought about giving it four but the reason i pulled back a little bit is because of that i mean this movie definitely is just fluff basically but to me. It was a lot of fun though. No definitely and i was pointing out that scene too. I love though the fact that it ends with her getting into a taxi and she puts the you know the javelin in the taxi out the window. Which is like some total lake tarantino type thing lasts like what. Are you going to get into a taxi in this. Stick.

"Chart this this movie is weirdly like not just a sort of reassembling of the first team but it also is kind of a reassembly of the guardians of the galaxy like the the the characters in this one map not necessarily one to one onto all the characters from guardians of the galaxy. They have a similar team dynamic. And i think obviously james guns dna a lot to do with that but to bring it back to the amanda waller thing that you were you were asking me about. I do like that as opposed to the first movie where she is. The movie treats her as this smooth operator. Who's always ten steps ahead of the game. And she's you know this this chessmaster who knows how to play all these people off of each other like this movie just openly acknowledges that she's completely fucking incompetent so much. Yeah the team. The rest of team are like looking at it. Like what the fuck are you doing. Only stage a little mini coup inside the office and then by the end of the movie. After she's been knocked out by her team she gets on the com- and says to idris elba. She goes told you. I'd make a leader out of you and your chris sleep on the floor for the entire movie. But it's just one of those things it's like i remember in the what was the last j.j. Abrams star wars movie. What's that one called the the rise of skywalker Yeah there's there's a scene in that where i can't fucking terrible but when there's a scene where the plot sort of convenes on the what's his name and propel putin and he goes you're you're both here and you're going to try and kill me just as planet and i was like really that's your fucking plan and in there is something interesting to that character that the star wars movies never acknowledged which is like anything at all anything that happens. He could just say like oh. This is all part of the plan. I want you to kill me. Go ahead and do it. Do it in amanda waller is like that same archetype. Where she's she's trying to do the thing. Where so no. This was all part of my plan but because they show you so much behind the scenes in this. There's a great dramatic irony in this movie where it's like. Oh yeah all these like chess masters who are pulling the strings behind the scenes. They're all looking clueless. And i really liked that dimension of this movie that it treats her complete and total idiot and all she can do by the end of it. Her entire objective in the final moments of the film is just to save face in front of the criminals that she has tried to send their death which i i kind of like. I think that's an interesting dimension and to that point to like You know we've been talking a lot about the political angle and stuff which is part of the movie but like like i do love if i you know i do like how james gunn takes these misfits or anti heroes and stuff and this is like the most anti hero superhero film ever and you know and trying to find the goodness and everybody right..

"I mean factory hot. Take factory good filmmaker. Too many james guns new suicide squad came out and we wanted to talk about it for so many reasons. First off james gunn had a hot take on. Martin scorsese which was interesting and relevant definitely discuss but on top of that into movie with like ninety one percent rotten tomatoes but that did terribly at the box office like way worse at the box office then like if nine did a month ago and that is something to talk about. Also it's a movie were divided about. I know a lot of the time on this. Podcast were were somewhat similar. Taste like remember when talking about the end of game of thrones. There wasn't there. Wasn't anybody out here defending it. But we've got. We've got some opinion mixed on this one in like i really enjoyed it. Todd did not and so we're going to try and get to the bottom of no. I mean that's good. Like i'm curious. Because i i was like oh my god like way to stick it to. Us foreign policy for two hours like that was just so satisfying to me. I mean the film is like a a ninety minute indictment of all. Us foreign policy in central america. And it's like it's it's also funny and good and idris. Elba is great. I really i was a fan. I was unabashedly. Just like this movie. I think it works rat. Catcher too was really good. It just all worked for me but before we get to that. Let's get to the heartache. Which is james gunn interview. Said you know a lot of great movies are great movies on. Tv like jaws was a theatrical release but eat only ever seen on tv. Most people ever only saw him on tv and honestly yeah like the first ten times. I watched the godfather was on vhs. I didn't see it on a film print. Until i saw it at the new beverly after i moved to. La in my twenties until like you can't fall in love with movies and all sorts of ways but then he sort of took a shot at scorsese which i thought was. Interesting scorsese famously. When he was promoting the irishman said. I feel like comic book. Movies are really just theme park rides. They're not really cinema. And james gunn was like i think you just said that to try and like heat. He basically accused scorsese of saying that as a troll shot. Take to get attention for the irishman which is like a bold statement to make while you're making your own trollers shot takes to get attention for the suicide squad. It's the iron using names. Aside squad after suicide squad came out only five years ago lacking the. There's just so much juicy here to dig into. And i taught joe you guys want to jump in and i'll wait on. I'm like frothy. I've talked about this stuff a lot. I have strong feelings. So maybe i should. Yeah i mean. I for me to start to start with the james gunn. Take about the scorsese thing. Like i. Just honestly i. Don't i really personally. Don't think martin scorsese is sitting around going. Like how do i get people to care about my movie like. I just don't think i don't think that's where his head was at when he made that statement and i also think you know i i i kind of venture to guess that. He probably wishes he could get that statement back. Just because you know it's funny like he's probably just making conversation and was like. Oh no that's probably gonna blow up and it really. I mean we're we're like that. That statement was what like half a year ago like more than that like a year ago or more at this point two. Yeah it was. It was back when with the last guardians were it was one of the marvel releases. I don't remember which one. But i i just i don't i just i just feel like maybe it's just because I sort of have this. View of martin scorsese as this. You know obviously god-like revered filmmaker. I don't think he's like a. I don't know i don't think he's coming at it from that standpoint. Think he just loves cinema. And i think there's a certain trend that he probably senses and i think there are some arguments to be made about the whole comic book movie thing kind of eventually feeling like a detriment to cinema as a whole. But that's kind of. I don't know i don't know that i even want to have said that. I don't know yeah. I agree with todd. I think in terms of the statement. I think james gunn is cheeky enough to be promoting his own film. And thank all of this is i mean. He's a person remakes creative films and can think of creative ways to promote them. So i it's just a good way to do that. Honestly because he talking about it Basically it did well in terms of people reacting to it on the site and kind of seeing the same thing so yeah. I don't think that. I don't think that scorsese really was thinking about it in the same terms as maybe james gunn was thinking about it more recently. There's like a generational thing there to where like you just don't think that martin scorsese's idea of marketing. A movie is necessarily like. How do i create a sound bite. That's a enough of a hot. Take to get clicks like we are all familiar with that world. I doubt that that's how i mean. He's not like i. I doubt he thinks about things that way. But either way i feel weird about it all because to me. James gunn like when guardians of the galaxy. The first one came out. I remember seeing it. And i'm not a big comic book movie san and i remember thinking like man that's great. I wish more people approach these comic book movies. The way james gunn is approaching this and he came up. Doing the diy like kind of like he likes. He's he's a horror comedy like he's my he's kind of my world. I felt like i get him. I got his approach. I loved the way. Guardians of the galaxy was put together and i feel like it stood head and shoulders above the majority of those movies as a fan in as a filmmaker and what i feel like. He's done in the last few years is i feel like he's become more of a like he's almost like an internet troll sometimes. Which is something. I am too so i can like. I can relate to using those tactics. Like i understand the mentality but like i've seen him start a couple twitter beefs. We've talked about him on here. There was one with an actor. Remember charles where he he kinda like started a thing about. Yeah yeah and oh yeah joe. Yeah you noticed. I'm sure that host blew up on our like like. When we like he's been he's been click beatty and you. We know a little bit about that because we work in the blogs fear and. I don't think that that's such a great look. Like and i don't it it it just for filmmaker necessarily but i get the idea behind it but i think it kind of distracts from what you're really doing or trying to do. And that's his business. But you know. The scorsese comment rubbed me the wrong way. Because i don't really think that like he seems to be like he wants beef. Scorsese i don't know and then the other thing that's weird. Is this like movie theater comment. Thank one hundred percent. You know i same thing charles. Like i grew up in la. But first time. I saw the godfather it was a crappy. Vhs my dad taped dot tv. I it blew me away on a crappy little tv. That was like a four by three box. You know and then the next time i saw the godfather is probably so some similar and then eventually when i'd seen it many times i saw it at the new beverly on celluloid and i was like wept with amazement. And how much better it was like. And that's true for so many movies with me. Like i think the first time i saw the searchers it was a black and white. Vhs like i have no idea why anyway so yes you can fall in love with movies through the chess mtv and whatever.

We're living in some violent times violent weather times and We hope That those who are in illinois or okay. Because that's where we're our broadcast transmitter in satellite goes from we go from portland oregon illinois to the space. Then back down to you and sometimes that connection can be a little weird and so thank you all for joining us tonight. And we're we're glad to be here. You know over the weekend. I I watched with Liam liam and i were you know we watch movies together. And i watched james guns. The suicide squad and You know when it was over after we watched it. I looked at liam and i said you know i thought it was a comic book masterpiece. I told us this great. It's great it's a great Science fiction comic book masterpiece and he asked me says. What would i rate it. 'cause we always and i have this rating system where we rate the movies and we also give them an extra point. If morgan freeman will. Morgan freeman wasn't in it but it did have interests alba in it but we said that it was a tent. I said it was a ten and he looked at me and he thought it over and he said yeah. I'll give it a ten and he says the only good thing that you know. He's i don't know if he was hesitant. I i was looking at going. You know are you. Are you serious about ten. You know it's james gunn movie and he says he you know he knows that not only is he. A fellow trauma alum I worked with him on toxic avenger four but he seemed to have a put his castro a of hard and rigorous tasks and in the process. It was it was funny. It was campy it was it was gory and much surprise. Some of the critics. I think the film can be somewhat liberating to watch it's I mean i won't get any spoilers. Client always goes away spoilers. I'm only give any spoilers web. I just have to say that you know what i'm seeing is A direction science fiction is going into a direction that Well in some detail the taking the direction superheroes and they're turning it on its ear. The superhero genre is changing and the themes. I've been seeing lately. Is that superhero scifi movies. No longer delineate the good guy from the bad guy. I mean the overall pattern here is that the underdog good or bad indifferent maybe needs to do something to save the earth from tyranny that even in the end the so called bad guy can wind up being the good guy and at sometimes. Good guys aren't exactly perfect now. Most heroes aren't perfect. You'll get hans solo. You look at Fact i remember one time. I was at a comecon and i asked the audience. I says his darth vader a good guy or a bad guy and they were mixed on that because of court. Darth vader did a lot of horrible things in star wars. But then of course he went to the good side of the force. And i didn't know of all of that. You know change over to the good side. You know eliminates all the bad things that darth vader did and so there's an argument to have as to whether or not good guys can be bad guys bad guys. We good guys. Can we forgive the bad guy if he ends up being a good guy. That's that's that's always a dilemma. Because now we live in a time where someone can make a mistake in their life or they can do something bad in their life or they can. They can confess to some sin and immediately to cancel cultures. All over it. You know. I was just looking at something about matt damon. The other day where matt damon had confessed that when he was when he was younger he used to use the slur the f. word slur for gay person and he's he told his daughter told him wrote a letter to him and told him why it was so bad because he said well in my generation using that f. slang word for gay people is not a bad thing was it wasn't necessarily a bad thing in back to could have been a tier of a term of endearment and you know but no cancel. Culture said no way you know. He used that phrase he you know he slammed because he's using and so that's the whole point. I don't see wrong. With matt damon. I mean i mean i didn't. I didn't use that word slang for gay people. When i was growing up some people did and they and but to be condemned for that by the cancel culture. You know and matt damon. I think has been you know i. I really wasn't convinced of his acting ability. I saw the good shepherd ever since. I like matt damon. Actually so i mean it's it's a tough fight where you know we immediately reject our heroes because of past sins and so we look at comic book characters like like Suicide squad and you see all of these different characters are supposed to be these villains cheap villains. The ones are imprisoned. Ones get caught. And i guess it's the batman and superman universes the batman superman universe villains get caught get thrown in jail and then they're told we'll take some. We'll take a little bit off your sentence if you going you fi- a crime and be superheroes for one day pretty much. So what's going on here is that what is being fought against has to be agreed upon enemy and that one person's terrorist is another person's fighter for freedom. It's kind of like the mouse. A tongue idea that you may think you're a revolutionary but you'll become a terrorist if we if we deem you such okay so these archetypes are pretty much Being expressed usually in a civil war type of setting. I mean there are good guys well in civil war there are no good guys or bad guys albeit the bad guy for the moment is the one that shooting you. The one is against you. The one that's fighting against you is the bad guy right. So that's how it is civil where you can't tell the difference between the good guys and the bad guys until someone starts shooting at your some wants to harm your family or someone wants to destroy your way of life and this is why. It's so difficult for people to understand that the way things are going right now with the whole cove in nineteen Passive aggressive gas lighting Bullying all that stuff is once again. Fomenting this this is air of civil war and those who are trying to You know say something about or do something about. It are always brought down well. They're the enemy. They're the bad guy. De the misfit there the villain are they really the villain. Are they really the bad guy. Or the misfit. Sure the media will tell you they are but there are a lot of people say well no. They're not they're just fighting for freedom. They're fighting for their sovereignty. They're fighting for what they feel is important to save their families and save their communities and to uphold their belief systems and see. This is why it's not clearly defined. Who's bad news. Good and this is why you have once again science fiction not plotting a future for you but giving you an explanation of present day and how we look at people and how certain people that we think are villains are actually not vince. They're just trying to make the best of things. Five zero three two five zero eight sixty. That's five zero. Three two five zero eight sixty. I'm clyde lewis. "Okay let's get to the review. We finally have seen james guns. The suicide squad hair is your spoilers. This is the twelfth. Dc movie since man steals this whole d. c. extended. Whatever whatever i believe and i'm counting. Zack snyder's justice league twice and joker on rotten tomatoes. It's sitting at ninety one percent now. Seven point five out of ten on the average rating An opening weekend He had a little bit of stumbled. Didn't do what they were expecting. I saw people. Estimating thirty million at least seventy one thing said ebay twani six point two million dollars domestically opening weekend another forty five point seven international right now sitting at about seventy two million dollars. It made this with eighty five percent of theaters open right. The twenty. six point five r. Rated this is the best box office debut for an rated film however the problem is when you think about how much cost to make this all rated movie budget was a hundred and eighty five million dollars and you're going to add another hundred million for marketing right and they which is a really big budget for an r rated superhero film. If you consider your deadpool's you're logan's your jokers. They were made for like fifty to ninety million dollars. Joker goes on to make a billion dollars. Now there's a bunch of reasons this under dan deadpool to make opening. Oh that's a good question. Some more money on that somebody. Oh they did. Somebody look that up because this is I mean such unique such very unique. Yes there's a lot of things happening and also on. Hbo max release. There's the delta vary now wonder woman opened in last december in these situations it made sixteen seven million deadpool. Two one twenty five million can cost one ten to make great. They made a lot of money. Seven eighty-six worldwide also the original suicide squad 2016 back in bill before times the old days the old days back that open to one hundred and thirty three million dollars and goes on to make seven hundred. Forty six million dollars here for some reason. That shitty movie made almost eight hundred fucking. So i mean i think you can. You can see why they were disappointed but also kind of see why this happened. It's r. rated. There aren't really like you. Don't have your wilson in this. There's no big name. I guess i don't now. I was surprised it only made that much. This is james guns. V movie written and directed by the james gunn. Enhance your cast. A huge fucking crazy cast margot robbie harley quinn idris. Elba blood sport. John sina peacemaker joachim as rick flag. Michael rooker savant. Viola davis returning as amanda waller. Nathan fillion as tdk gye coordinate returning captain boomerang lula borg as javelin pete davidson black guard. Mailing as mungul sean. Gunn playing weasel steve g. is msn. And there's a bunch of other people. We'll talk about them crazy. Big cast anthony deal. You have enough strength to give us a plot. Synopsis of what happens in these suicides. I can summon from the From the depths of whole for vitality through suicide squad is these suicide. Squad is a semi sequel. Maybe kind of a re. I wouldn't even call a reboot. Maybe like just kind of a refresh of the brand that we saw from suicide squad the other one five years ago. Four years old allows This one is similar in that. It's a team of i other than harley quinn de l'est villains from the dc comic lord that are put together. On team to infiltrates an island called corto maltese. That has been taken over in a military coup.

"Here it all passes by and it's kind of over the top. It's kind of ridiculous and funny stupid and cool at the same time and it's pretty much over really quickly. One store goes down blood. Sport is blackmailing for all of their freedom. That tape will not go out eases. Even though flag died for this to go out it's better to have leverage than to have transparency. Let me try to understand this. That means they're not going back into the louisiana prison. They will never be put in the cells that this chopper picking them up is going to take them back to their various homes or wherever they want to go. That's how i took it. Okay interesting that if they make a sequel It won't begin with the the the prison or don't have totally different characters or ludd sport will have gotten arrested again. I feel like he's the one you bring back right and weasel and weasel. yes please give me more weasel. The weasel is the early credit scene. Late credit scene. We see the be players plus johnson who will continue into a tv series. I think we can't get viola davis so we're going to have these people who supposedly worked for viola davis and are available. Amelia hardcourt and john economics. I don't know again. Jacob that means anything to comic book fans or whether they're just nameless joe's yeah i know like flo crawley. She was a character in the suicide. Squads at worked behind the scenes with amanda waller. These might be those kind of characters to. They're not names that stand out to me okay. Yeah they're not gonna turn into some aquatic monster. Well who knows who knows what they're going to do in this series. Amelia court is james guns girlfriend leg. They've lived together for a decade. I think common law wife at this point. Okay you mean the the actress playing amelia or the yeah. The actress playing amelia jennifer holland keeping the wife employed. Apparently though this happened you know this movie was supposed to come out. And twenty twenty and there had been talk about. Tv spin off series for this and his downtime during cova james gunn. Nobody asked him to. He just wrote a season of a peacemaker tv series on hbo. Max came to him and said who do you think could get a spin off tv series. He's like i have eight episodes already written and directed five of them and he's hoping for season two so he's heavily involved with this peacemakers series. Yes we will discuss it when they do the suicides sequel in three years and john cena you know what after seeing them enough nine and playing with fire and the daddy's home films i think johnson is perfect for television. I think he has good persona. But i just think they've never found a vehicle that really works for him. Come on what about blockers. There blockers franchise. That's going to be spun from that comedy. Tv's this this place. I really do. Tv is not a rematch. Most of his work is on tv wrestling. I don't think that's a disc. Either you get a lot of great people. Matthew mcconaughey did season tv. But i think john cena as a leading man will work better on the small screen when people don't have to pay specifically for that but people didn't really pay for this. I mean again. Hbo max movie was estimated to come in well over thirty million they were thinking maybe forty million twenty five million Well there are people in the imax. But i think the people that wanted to see it wanted to see it on the big screen possible but that may be the future movie screenings of a select market of people that want the big experience. The days where you're going to have one hundred million dollar opening may be over but will you spent one hundred and eighty five million on suicide squad three if you're going to not only bring in thirty three worldwide opening weekend mount. Maybe the future is television. I don't know. I don't know how the economics work how don't get the accounting for streaming. Yeah i don't know what it means to create something inhabits streamed and how that's you know different than paying a ticket jacob stuart. Do you recommend the suicide squad. Jacob i mean i got what i wanted in that. It's a pretty solid film. It's much better than that. Original one. Which i recommend it as you know. It's an all right nineties actions film but this is something more but yeah. I think we've all said it. This would feel much more unique. If james gunn had done guardians yet like this feels very much like what james gone is going to do with any superhero. That he's given and that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's a different flavor like re get some humor. Because it's r rated pre gets gratuitous violence. That's that's all stuff. I want in my suicide squad films conceptually more or less like violin say in crude humor and make adults in this one. Yeah better plot. Roy moore of that black ops feel with trying to hide war crimes that the us is committed like it feels like that eighties. John strand run of suicide squad. The original run where it was more about. Reagan in black ops. But it also feels like that gail simone as well for me with secret six. Where hey these are a bunch of silly dallas villains and. Let's make jokes and have some fun with them. I feel like it's a pretty good marriage between the two ways you would want to take this team of delist villains and so yeah the my complaints i we talked about it. It lags a bit like tremendous down. Cut out twenty twenty five minutes. It's much more digestible at that point. This does maybe. Because i'm watching on tv but it feels like you guys kind of felt the same thing even used watching theaters like yeah. Here's a commercial break. I walk away for an hour or day and then come back and watch the next episode. It doesn't quite gel. Is like i must sit down for this two hours and watch all this in one piece because it's so gripping it does feel again because it's james got maybe more like a sitcom and i don't need to our sitcom or to our plus calm so but i don't have that. Those are minor complaints ultimately is the run time and it has some lag the humor again it's objective. There's a lot of jokes more work for me than they did. Not i liked again that we're having character moments. There's a lot of characters here so there's a lot of character moments. But i liked that. Were looking for some kind of depth with even these silly polka-dot man character so a lot of things. I appreciate not a perfect film but it was a fun film like i. I enjoyed sin through it. I liked it perverseness at the end like threats chewing through optic nerves like again. Maybe a little james gone but it felt unique when you look at all of superhero cannon in film. So yeah this. This is definitely a step up from suicide squad. These suicide squad is the one to watch recommend stewart. Yeah this is nothing more or less than an amusing movie. It does doesn't aim high and it hits all of its targets. James gunn is essentially slapped a new skin. Guardian skin on a dc property and repackaged his greatest hits and. I think that people that like it will enjoy it. I came in with very low expectations. What was so funny about listening to the podcast was. We were so excited. You got a lot of expectations. We were all so excited about that. First suicide squad movie this one. I came in like actually not wanting to be there. I had a good time. It was painless. Suicide is painless. Has the song amusing disposable. Maybe that sounds like a this. Maybe it sounds. Like i should be giving it more. But i mean making trash is hard to do. We saw this year zach. Snyder tried to do this very thing. With army of the dead. They have one good idea about his ambi- white tiger and otherwise were scrambling to try and hit these jokes and do these things here. Gun does have some good relationships. I particularly like rat catcher and blood sport. I do feel like you know. He tried to slip in some humanity here. Now that certainly an improvement on amanda waller not forgetting to make america part of the villainy. I feel like an always. It's an improvement on the twenty sixteen movie and a solid amusing disposable. Good time it doesn't move the needle on the genre. And i think that's what i would ultimately want. My favorite superhero movies are the ones that pushed the envelope. This one feels like it's a part of something that used to be subversive but isn't anymore season eight of the simpsons..

"Oh so much blah. Y'all come on and have fun in when you start something the movie just on violence you know and s to become the predominant thing that people here i mean as much as i might like the violence in the movie in in. It's fun and you know we all see it all the time we in on the joke and we get it. You say that too much i that could. I don't have any science to back this up but that could possibly push some people away. I think families possibly though they were similar in that they both sold themselves on their soundtracks. I mean there wasn't anything like queen. You know marketing. The suicide squad. They number recognizable songs. That's part of james guns kind of schick for quite some time. He's on that probably since guards the galaxy. I think that guardians. And i think that Suicide squad had more recognizable. I agree with that. You know that that dirty work song from From from what do you call it. A steely dan That's not a popular with people. Don't really know you gotta know that. It's a great themes on the go with it but but yeah no no no one just not in the same levels marketing. Yeah no-one no-one no-one that song. I mean like i said if you have fantasy dan then yeah you do know it. Those other songs popular at karaoke everybody knows them Okay yeah yeah in in the sonnet. They sold at teaser with That's not a big song. Song is great but those those aren't big recognizable songs. I don't think. I don't think the song soul this one But also you know this whole thing with them at the time. Listen you might. You might like these movies. You might think these movies are bad but it was still at the time when dc was trying to make an universe. yeah it felt. Like everything was connected. you know even though batman v. superman man. Might you know everybody thinks it sucks now. It's awful yet but now no let's let's but you know when when the with this movie here. They thought that this would be the one to turn it around. Well not even this one with. I believe with the suicide squad at the time. Yeah that's what i was. Yeah suicide squad at the time. Suicide squad was it was pitched being. Funnier is not as dark. This is something that's going to be the one to turn 'cause you're right. That's what everybody said. Everybody saw this is how you do it right here. David done man. Everybody thought that this is going to be two. Want to connect everything and turn it all around and people walked out going. Wow i so wrong about that man. These see dealers over here. She has done batman and superman way. Man let let let the man who could clown many things. Yeah But you know those movies also look. You might not be crazy about batman. V superman but you know you know batman. Yeah you know. Super measure and those movies are recognizable character. Even this sarah's lex luther right here but those are recognizable characters and everyone who went to see these movies. It was mostly out of curiosity to see how all these characters that we know get together and then and then the suicide squad that that that's a bonus right there. He considered it also with a suicide squad. That is the first one right. So yeah there was the hint of like batman and joker gonna show. that's true. Yeah the big. Your big villain is the joker batman in the marketing too. I mean look. Everyone hates them. At least this version of the joker. Everyone hates the suicide squad joker but he was a main draw. You know it brings up a point where people were curious to see what they would do with that character. You know people want to see what they do with a gangsta. Chiloe has joking manage it. I don't like the look right now. That stupid but i wanna see what he does You know an and the biggest thing was it was it was different. I sweet talking fuss. I think you you kill me now this you anymore. Christ real job you run a whole crime syndicate white people working on us white was crazy motherfucker doing anything Also you curious. To what will smith would do in the movie like i say. Listen there you know people can wait to see. Will smith tanglewood batman and superman short sonia. Sure yeah no you put it out all on paper okay. New take on. The joker will smith. I know who he is. Been seeing harlequin quinn's ass. Yeah yeah yeah Batman supposed to show up. At some point i hear i hear and and also that all right this could be the one that. Dc gets it right a lot of different things going on to make you go. Let me go check this out. Yep yeah man it was. It was something where a lot of people is. Just a lot of people that you weren't if you weren't wanted to percent like down to watch it and you you know you weren't excited than you would least curious about is your when you're gonna say i'm sorry. No no i agree. So let's see in my second point. So where i say there was just not as much in there was more interest in the In suicide squad. Two thousand sixteen than these suicide squad. There was not as much interest for this movie after that. You know that this goes back to the bad marketing. That was talking about with the and the in my first point you know this is. This is confusing people. At this point people know what to make these things anymore because what they're doing is at this point. Dc's trying to have it both ways especially with the suicide squad situation you know they wanna be attached to the first films money..

"I saving you for last. This is your most -ticipant movie of the year. James guns the suicide squad. Your huge fan of james gonna love what he did on the marble side and now you get to see what he does on the decided. I'm not going to bury this. I'm not going to bury you at the very end. I want to get your thoughts right up there fucking front street right now. What did you think of james guns. The suicide squad. Yeah yeah. I'm right there with you this. This is absolutely brilliant. It's the giant tupperware for me. I just love this movie. I've seen it three times now. I saw the first time opening night thursday. Then i've watched it a couple more times at home. Hbo max definitely going to get out there in the theater and see it at least one or two more times before. It's gone the. I've just i'm just blown away by this movie. It's a it's a totally different field and what. He did with guardians of the galaxy. Obviously i mean it's got that hard r. rating and man is it gruesome. But it's just so wild. How the mathematically. It's such a campy movie but it's able to yet still be so dramatic and tense like a lot of times. Movies just have a hard time. Both like if you're going to go can't eat there. You're gonna go camping and you kind of lose out on those big character moments where you don't know which side's gonna pull out in the end and man. This movie had it all. It was just so tense. I never knew how the ships were gonna fall and it just gave it such a excitement level that i haven't seen in an action movie like this in a long time. Like you said it on your review last week brian. Like all bets off. You really did not know who was gonna come out of this thing alive and like you know who side certain people were going to be on by the end of it and while it was just unbelievable and just beyond the story visually. I was really blown away by it. Like it's almost like muted color scheme going on for most of the movie but then it really pays off when you get to the third act action sequence there so much like color pops even more because everything else has been. You know it's dark. It's foggy it's in the rain and then just boom. Everything's bright and colorful and wide open and it's just a look. I've never seen anything. Like in a superhero movie. I loved the way it was sequenced. You know it's not quite chronological order. And there's a lot of fun to be had with that really unique title cards. That really enjoyed that. You know. I love it when they do stuff like that but yeah. I can't wait to break this down and talk about all the different individual characters. I thought everyone just elevated what is such a stupid movie like it's made not stupid by just the performance the Elva breeze into it. Like he's almost like the.

That's in a position that he could get. The snyder cut treatment this mini series. Well because you don't want it to be the irishman that this movie was good for the first forty five minutes and then i passed out for the next forty five. Yeah so what happened. With dune is dune is going to be. I think two hours thirty minutes. They did a cut and then virtually told them either found on to this movie to just do one movie because the first movie is the first half of the book the second half the second so is just like nah maybe he's he wasn't going to do it unless he made two parts for because it's a huge book. "You know and yeah, curse voice in. The harlequin series kind of something you didn't expect either. You're expecting growly like rough voice and then you get this. Nights King. You know what I mean like like I that makes sense to me that that. was. It's one of those things where it's like, yeah I I think that James Guns GonNa get right with the first movie. Got Wrong. I. Felt like killer crocs could have been so amazing in that first movie. Had Think about like James Gunn would directed that first movie like how? Potential so much. So Shit on. Such. Huge Habit as characters but they were just. They were a joke amongst. They nothing with them at all. So bad. They said this was going to be like a seventies war movie. I was all in. The. Seventies war movie. Oh my God. Yeah. I was all into that. Got Me. Super excited for this. We're going to kill a lot of characters. Like every time they talk about this movie, they can bring up how you're not supposed to get attached to anybody is going to be a lot of casualties I think if I were to guess them up there if I were to guess I think Nathan Fillion dies pretty early. Pete Davidson is to go pretty early but I do think like characters I do think there's GonNa be some characters that we think that are going to go. Early. That are going to be fan favorites that he's GonNa. Keep around think polka-dot man played by David David. Malki is GonNa stick around I. Think I think I think polka-dot man is going to be a big. Big Character in this movie I could be wrong though. We'll sit around who the same way about rat-catcher to rat catcher. She's GonNa stick around the whole time she might even be one of the heroes from it. I yeah. These bike polka-dot man rat catcher. Those are characters that they said they have never been a part of the suicide squad. In the comics, but he really wanted to bring these characters in and I feel like I feel like he wanted to bring them in for a reason so. You depend. You see them taking the side for that game. It seemed like it to me that the player that the people kind of forgot about. I don't know if you saw but. Think completely forgot Davidson was there yes. Yes. When they when they were Tuesday that was so great. He he kept like they were they were gonNA do like a Trivia game and they're picking players to be on their teams they had. John and Viola Davis. We're going to be like the. Were they the team captains Joachim and Viola, Davis, we're going to be team captains and they were picking players to be on their team and like Pete Davidson those like this is high school all over again..

James Gunn re-hired as 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' director

"My life. This is amazing. I am also a guardians mega family. You know, before we get into the reaction. Ben tell us what is going on here. Yes. So deadline reports that they've confirmed with both marvel and with James guns represent representatives that James Gunn is coming back to direct guardians of the galaxy volume three. They said that this decision was actually made months ago after after conversations between gun and Walt Disney studios president Allen horn. Apparently, they talked a bunch of times and horn just decided that it was a good idea to bring him back on he made some sort of mentioned that horn was convinced or felt that guns reaction was appropriate in terms of just like apologizing again, and sort of keeping his head low and not really. You know, making a big fuss about everything, and they just you know, the professional way that James Gunn hand handled this entire terrible situation, which was orchestrated in bad faith from the very beginning. It seems like his professionalism ended up coming back around in being the thing that that ended up getting him the job again marvel apparently never met with or considered any other director four guardians three. So although that talk about maybe Tikal ITT or Adam McKay, potentially stepping in was just you know, unfounded rumor, and we the only other really concrete piece of information. That's probably worth noting here is that James Gunn is going to direct. The suicide squad aka suicide squad too for DC, and then begin production on gardens of galaxy volume three so marvel and Disney are letting him I guess honored that the deal that he's already made with Warner Brothers in DC and letting him tackle that film. I before gardens three it's up and running by the way, letting him tackle. Oh that foam. I I think is a bit loaded. I keep on seeing people say Twitter. I'm sure he has a contract that prevents him from doing anything until he's done with the suicide squad. You know? You know? It's probably true. Yeah. I I could have chosen better words to to say that. Yeah. Good call. But people are like surprised that like marvelous letting him do that I feel like there's no way around that. It's quad comes out in the summer of two thousand twenty one which means that we're probably not he's not probably not going to get started on guardians three until probably late twenty twenty one which means we won't see until twenty twenty two or twenty twenty three. Right. Yeah. But the good news about this to like the script on stuff they might be able to fast track. It you know, depending on how I guess how far they had if they were into pre production at all before they were they had bore. They were vocation scouting. They were then. So it might not be may not take them as long. So maybe they'll get it done sooner. Yeah. Maybe he can, you know, do the the rest of wall E's working on to quite. I'm not sure how like contracts work if you're even allowed technically to do that. When you're committing yourself to one studio for one film. But okay, Brad, I I know you kinda gave you reaction, but give us a little more of it. No, I'm I'm so pump for this. It's it's been such a Downer ever since James gone was fired even rewatching the guardians movies. Just thinking about you know, him not being around for the third chapter him not getting a complete what he set out from the beginning. You know, he had talked about before how guardians three. He was supposed to, you know, bring the arcs of the original guardians to an end. And you know, usher in a new era for them made with some new characters and kind of kick off the the next ten years of the cosmic side of the marvel cinematic universe. Even though they've Kevin as recently kind of downplayed that a little bit.

Joey Badass Settles Lawsuit With Trump Impersonator: Report

"Variety dropped a pretty big news story pertaining to the suicide squad sequel that of course, we know James Gunn is directing their reporting that one or brothers their choice. I want to phrase this correctly because you're going to see in talks and all these different things out there the way they phrase it is that aegis Elba is one or brothers choice to replace Will Smith as dead shot in the suicide squad sequel. So there is nothing here to necessarily say this is a done deal. It's locked it's confirmed. He is their top choice. So that is where we stand on this first off Haley, do you think this is gonna be a done deal? And does this news. Did it surprise you? When it popped up in your inbox earlier today. I definitely surprised me. I guess I didn't expect them to replace Will Smith I thought they'd just use other characters. That. I mean, it's it's great casting. If there was no previous actor attached. I think the immediate response would be like, yes. This is perfect. It's ideal. I think it's great. It's very surprising. I have a lot of faith in what James Gunn is going to do with this given his track record with on samba lls of slightly villainous heroes. So I'm very excited, and I can't wait. Hopefully, if it does come together because the report I read had an interesting, quote that was like not just their first choice, but said their first and only choice for the role. So oh, that's interesting. Yeah. Hopefully, I think that was HR's report. Okay. Hopefully that that says good things for the likelihood of it. And if so I very much look forward to seeing address Elba nail James guns dialogue,
