"If they knock themselves out of the playoff again or not. Never, nevermind existing in the future or being able to watch the games. It is absolute. I agree with you. It is one of the, it's probably the most interesting conference to watch. You mentioned Colorado with Deion. Is there, do you have like, how is that going to end man? Like, is it like, they're going to be good. He's, he's obviously changing things up and it's a, it's a calculation that the administration has made to become relevant very, very quickly. And it has worked so far. How is it going to end though? I think it either ends with him doing a very good job and leaving for a SEC type of job or it fails spectacularly. And the roster is completely just wrecked for a long period of time. I mean, I I'm very curious. And a lot of coaches and people I talk to as well are curious, how is he going to handle when they start the season, like one in five or something like that? How is he going to be able to handle that when you're not just the shiny new thing anymore and you've got potentially some one -sided losses on your roster because he has improved the talent there, no doubt, but there's not, there's still not a lot of depth. There's not much in the trenches. And if Chidora gets hurt, which is always possible in this sport, especially when you don't have a good offensive line, what happens to Colorado? You wonder early on. Are schools going to try to make a statement, potentially run up the score on them, just to kind of counteract the noise that Deon's making in recruiting? We'll see. That's going to be the big question. That's the reason. That's one of the reasons he hasn't, he didn't get a bigger job than Colorado is because people need to see how he handles what things aren't going the right way. There were some, you know, his first game at Jackson state, he comes in a locker room or it comes in the press conference and complaining that stuff was stolen out of the locker room. He had just kind of some weird things that have, have happened. So he's doing everything he was hired to do so far. The season tickets, the spring game attendance, the money, it's all happening. That's been a success, but we always knew this first season, especially it was going to not be great. So when that's happening, how is he handling the press conferences? How is he handling potentially some D commits from some, some players and stuff like that, that's what we got to see. And that's what I'm fascinated to see how he handles. Yeah. I mean, to your point, Chris Vanini, the athletic, he's done everything he's been hired to do. They're relevant. They're interesting. People care, but like, is he going to out scheme Kyle Whittingham? Is he sitting up late at night, drawing up plays to like out scheme Kyle Whittingham's defense? I don't think so, you know? Right. And at Jackson state, he had the most talented team because he was able to find really good players and get some transfers. That's not going to be the case in the pack 12 where he still has probably one of the worst rosters in that conference. And it would take a number of years for that to change. Chris, always a pleasure, man. You guys do great work up there. You can check them out at the athletic, go subscribe, pay for good journalism. Thank you, man. Thanks for having me. Absolutely. Chris Vanini there from the athletic. Yeah, I am fascinated by Dion. I think it's a calculated risk. I think it's, it's, we are all going to watch it unfold in real time, but how's it going to end? How's it going to end? That is the question. 855 -242 -7285. We'll continue talking college football. Take your calls as well. More. Braden Gall in for Paul Feinbaum. This is the Paul Feinbaum show on ESPN radio. We have a developing situation with Jim and Tuscaloosa. My main man, Braden Gall in for Paul 855 -242 -7285. We'll get to your calls here momentarily, but apparently Jim has made an appearance, but is too scared to come on the air with me. So we'll explain coming up momentarily. And he's taking shots at my producers, my crew, my guys. I don't know, man. I don't know. It's not going to fly. This unchecked aggression, man, will not stand at Braden Gall -7285 855 -242 here on the Paul Feinbaum show, ESPN radio. Bill Bender from Sporting News. Welcome to the show, Bill. How are you, sir? Hey, I don't know if it scores points, but I get the Lebowski reference. I'm all set there. I could talk to you. How are you doing? No major points. Greatest movie ever made. Unequivocally. It's not an opinion. It's a fact. It's science. You had a column and I started the show talking about the big 10 coaches somehow being surprised that night games in November would be in the contract that their university signed, but also that they're just scared of playing night games, even though it would be extremely beneficial. You wrote a column, of course, on Sporting News about how the night games for the big 10 will be good, but it'll take some adjustment time. We're going to be playing playoff games in December, and hopefully some of these teams are going to get some of those games at home. Wouldn't it be beneficial for the big 10 to do this as much as possible? I just think it's part of the tradition. I grew up in central Ohio and Ohio State didn't start playing night games at home until the 1980s. Michigan played their first night game in 2011. Ohio State's only played 10 home games against big 10 opponents at night. So I think the point I made and the adjustment for people that grew up in this part of the country will be, it's not a special occasion anymore. It'll be more of an obligation. And you're right, as we get into November and the NBC deal and the college football off expansion, these night games will be good for the campus. But like I said, if you're eight out of 10, I bet you've asked 10 big 10 fans what their favorite window is, or would say either three 30 or noon than they would the prime time window. And I agree with that. I was born in Madison. I, you know, I was raised in a big 10 family. I went to an SCC school, but like where is Penn State harder to beat at noon and happy Valley or at eight o 'clock and happy Valley? It's clearly eight o 'clock. Ford field, maybe that'll be tougher to beat next year. That's part of this kind of the selling point. But to your point, yeah. I mean, Madison at night is amazing. You know, Kinnick stadium at night is amazing. What wasn't amazing last year was Ohio state playing Toledo and winning 77 21. Now SCC school has been doing that for years, right? So I think that's the adjustment we'll have to make at the end of the day. It's football. We'll enjoy it. But like you said, if you grew up in the big 10 country, you know that that we're slow to adjust to change. Aren't we? It's that big 10 speed Ohio state, Michigan, Penn State feels like a pretty clear top three in the big 10 again on paper in May, I get it. But Michigan has this thing over Ohio state, even though we can still look at Ohio state and say, oh, probably a more dynamic roster, certainly a more dynamic offense. Penn State is sneaky, sneaky, good, but needs its quarterback to come along quickly. What do you make of the, of the three team race in the big 10 again, in the middle of May? Well, I'm wondering what, yeah, of course it's his name. I mean, I'm wondering if this start to feel like the mid to late nineties where you start to wonder whose turn it is. It's no longer just Ohio state and everybody else. I mean, Michigan's made their point with back to back big 10 championships. They've got probably the best backfield in the nation with Donovan Edwards and Blake Corum and JJ McCarthy. That's not an overstatement, I don't think. And they've got some other nice pieces. Ohio state's got the most frontline first round talent, starting with Marvin Harrison. And then for Penn State, I was talking to a station there the other day, and this is the most excitement they've had around the roster since 1999 when they had with Brian and Courtney Brown and withdrew Aller on top of it. It's on them to go out and beat Ohio state in Michigan. James Franklin's done a lot of wonderful things there. But over the last nine years, they have a four and 14 combined record against the Wolverines and

"Your opinion. Let's get back to the fall. The college at 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5 Rick starts it off from Houston, a hi Rick. Good afternoon, Paul, happy Thursday to you, sir. Thank you very much. Oh, I was convinced after I read Bruce's article that he was practicing for open Mike night at the end product. Yeah, there was, and I think my tones were pretty obvious, but there were some utterly bizarre selections. Well, yeah. Starting at number 5 the 5th, the 5th best coach in the country, you can't have just a good coach, it's got to be a great coach. First point, Franklin's rated above Ryan day. When it went to James Franklin ever beat Ryan day, when his Shane Franklin taken Penn State to the playoffs. Yeah, I mean, right there, I mean, you're having a James Franklin, who's a good coach. I mean, I'm not here to disparage him. He's got a good record, but he's had four top ten finishes. He's won 11 games four times, but he's never been to the playoffs, Ryan day, I realize he inherited a good program from urban Meyer. I mean, who doesn't realize that? But he still been to the playoffs three times. He played for a national championship. I mean, he came within a second of playing for it again. I really don't, there's just no way you could ever say that James Franklin should rank ahead of Ryan day. Ever. Yeah. Okay. And then we look at both of the Kansas coaches KU in Kate state. Good coaches. Yeah, very good coaches. Are they are either of those guys a better coach than Josh eichel? Not in my opinion. No. Is chip Kelly better than John's hypo? No. I mean, I'm glad you mentioned that. Because this is not a lifetime achievement award. I've done this before with lists are and that's why Sabin is more vulnerable than people think. It's not about the greatest coach of all time. It's about the best coach right now. That's it. Yeah, I mean, you could even, you could even have the argument with dabo that Bruce has given him credit for, you know, four seasons that he had in the past. I would say that Ryan did a better coach than he would rank higher for me than davo right now. And I wouldn't throw dabble out the top 5, but I certainly would have Ryan day ahead of him. Good point. I'll tell you what. We're heading to a break a little bit early.

"Yeah, welcome back. Second half the show. We're live in Nashville. This will be state. Possibly punching a ticket to the tournament today with a big win in over for time against a gutty Florida team that the team really looked good under its new coach, Todd golden. We are here in the number of guests will drop by, including Sean farm. I want to go back to the list by Bruce Feldman. He and mandel both put out listen. I realized these things are subjective and I also realized it's early March. But Nick Saban and Kirby smart. There's a big debate. Who is the best coach in college football today? The Sabin get it because he's the goat or is this a legitimate snapshot? Dabo Sweeney three. A lot of people raise their eyebrows on that for I asked this question. You can answer it any time you want. How in the world is James Franklin the 5th best coach in America? It's just a question. Ryan day is number 6. He's already been to what three college football playoffs in three years, including a national championship game. Lincoln Riley is 7th Brian Kelly at 8 winningham at Utah and Lance Leopold who quite frankly emerged last year. We'll continue with this list. And get reaction in just a moment. Fickle at 11. Clawson he's at wake forest for those of you who don't follow the ACC. Kleiman, who's been really good at K state chip Kelly. Chip Kelly is 14. He nearly got fired this year. Bruce, are you at West Coast bias? It's a question. You can answer it. Matt rule who failed in the NFL. He starts off his career in Nebraska 15. Jimbo at 17, he was a top 5 coach last year. Did he deserve to drop to 17 or does he even deserve to be in the top 20? That is a question. Mark stoops.

"So far is paid off with an undefeated season. They keep that going. Also the big ten some of the gains of importance you have number. Twenty penn state and ohio state. Ohio state Now ranked number five in the country ahead of the team that they lost to the second week of the season that home oregon but so far the season. If you take a look outside of george over the last couple of weeks he's been playing better football then ohio state now they might not have had the test that some of the other teams have had. But if you take a look at some of these top five top six teams that are currently ranked and you throw in ohio state. I mean it would take a very short list before you say in terms of the best teams in the country pulling in ohio state. Maybe only georgia would you put cincinnati over ohio state. I wouldn't would. You put oklahoma over ohio state. I wouldn't would. You put alabama over ohio state so far with the secondary and some of the defensive lapses that alabama has had the last couple of weeks even though impressive victory over tennessee and have rebounded well since losing to texas am. I was still put ohio state. The way that they're playing Over alabama and yes indiana is overrated but the beatdown that they gave them on the road very very impressive in for penn state knee. Look man james franklin. We don't know what's happening with him. With the penn state situation he's brought in he's bringing in a really great recruiting class. He finally going to be bringing in a quarterback something that he hasn't had sorry shawn clifford a quarterback and get him to possible national championship prestige. But that game against Illinois where it a couldn't do anything for like eighteen overtimes. I don't know if it broke them. I don't know what this means for. Franklin going forward a couple of weeks ago he changed agents so with the ucla. Excuse me with the usc job opening and with the Louisiana state job opening. What does that mean who knows. We don't know what the recruiting classes penn state mean for. Franklin who knows what would it mean for penn state to get blown out at ohio state and then finish the season on the whimper when they were one of the top teams in the In the top ten The season. I don't know but we are going to find out. So number. Twenty penn state versus number five oklahoma state number. Nine iowa at wisconsin. That's also going to be an interesting game. And then of course we have the greatest biggest indoor cocktail outdoor cocktail party between florida and georgia may be the last stop on the. Somebody's gotta be georgia to get the ball. For the number one ranked team in the country. plateau florida might be the only one that can do that tonight. He's going to be at two lane. Let me see some other game. Florida state at a falling clemson team duke is going to be at number thirteen. Wake forest saturday evening. We have ole miss at auburn. We have kentucky at mississippi state so some really good games from top to bottom the big twelve race. We're gonna have Texas tech at oklahoma with oklahoma and the way they play playing down through the competition..

"Know you're talk. Yeah i wonder what that gets. You give me a second. Go on per seat. I'll be listening. But i wonder indiana at maryland two teams that are struggling. The turps of ton of injuries Five and a half point favorites. I think i'm probably the hoosier. Just a wreck. Right now to the. I like the hoosier skin the points. Yeah they worry me because they've been really really bad and what happened there but it's just here's my advice for that one time deal. Don't gamble gamble got one. There's no there's no tell. Issue compelled to gamble on an. Here's another game i would say. Don't gamble on rutgers One and a half point favorites opened up his peckham at illinois. Blind eye coming off at the biggest win of the deal. The era in the nine over time high scoring twenty two eighteen game. This is going to seem very aver. But i'll take rutgers may to it's tougher you is online i fan. I don't like the next line either. Minnesota laying seven and a half north western and northwestern cats cats. I don't trust either. One of them. And i ate the hook i ate that was minus six and a half. Then maybe give me northwestern at home. I'll hold my nose and i'll take northwestern in dover do for for stinger aren't they do. I would sir speaking of stinkers this line stinks to high heaven purdue and nebraska nebraska now up to seven and a half point favorites. They were openness. Settle blue anybody out. But they don't win close games. I like nebraska and i would put him in a moneyline parlay but i don't know if i liked them enough. Lay the with that seven. What do you think might go on. Purdue just take to sell. And a half. I don't know the book does prejudice suck everywhere but when they face iowa is that maybe the the real thing here Yes i think they just have. Iowa's number certain teams figure it out in get it and that's one of them. Did you figure remembers there. Keep growing k. penn state at ohio state ohio state. Who's really clicking. But they haven't beat anybody recently. They've beaten bad teams. Poll like a drum like akron in indiana in Some other teams. But they're playing penn state penn state's kind of a hot mess right now. James franklin doesn't know who is playing. Did you hear that. He thought he was playing illinois again. He thought he was going to go to the big house. This weekend really needs the high. He wants out of there anyway. Ohio state is an eighteen and a half point favorite in columbus. This is i mean what worries me is. It doesn't make sense to to to go the opposite way but ohio state and you've been saying this all credit where credit's due. You've been saying this last weeks. I think while state lay the points. I think roland on a different level. I'm and is is sean clifford good. He's not good when he can't run. And that's what happened. Last week he could not condemning. The basically was to beat up that they just told me. You jangle go wrong and hurt. What did he hurt now. I had heard that it was ribs but somebody else told me might have been a hip but i thought it was ribs that maybe he.

"Occur parents. Pretty well you play for him. You know what he's like it's rare. I've covered him for almost twenty years on a day to day basis Never heard him really go after somebody like he did on tuesday about the penn state is taken a dive in. It's it it seems like that's kind of the hot topping. Franklin won't let it go encrypted bring up. We asked him at the end of the press conference. It was not james franklin kind of opened his posting comments with talking about players being bullied. Because we're were or allegedly. They thought they were diverted. You know you know lavar woods. Woods is like one of the nicest new. He's fallen down the ground mocking them for that. It's a problem right. Yeah hundred percent. I was like in like we talked about or went on there. Were some injuries. Injuries happen while in you. All the best to go onto to those guys that we are seriously banged up. Same time it's a don't the teams do right if if another team gets one if the crowds really do it. The clothing momentum do. I was never done coach. foreign ever. Tolleson vanished. I know it happens zemo colorado those situations where someone went down was pretty timely to kinda slow Slow that momentum but then a couple of times. Those guys are back in the game. So it's it's something some teams are taught to do. I'm not saying that case or not mistake. Pretty timely for for to talk about it as you said he's not wanna get up there and call out another coach call out in which he he's gonna keep in house. Something's gotta be up without squeezer. Here's how good a coach for him to end up talking about it in like like you said the fans kinda smelled a rat. I think it definitely was the case on saturday. Certificates didn't bender intersection that three-game windstream. I'd probably you. I'm glad that had two point right here. I'll tell you what i should have done. It take a break. Because i was rigging on the play back those glory days. Yeah you're playing both sides not like those guys over bettendorf university. They got like one guy breach position right now. I'll tell you..

"That. Bet to make the proclamation. The deal over the past couple of years has been the alabama crimson tide head and shoulders above. Everybody else yes. They've had clemson yet. They've had ohio state yet. They've had georgia yet. They've had other contenders to their thrown. But yet and still in a dominant fashion. It has been alabama alabama alabama alabama. So i'm gonna roll tide until further notice in go with alabama keeping up what i said before alabama football being still the most dominant team in north american team. Sports windows world sports. I'm your host wonder wallace so glad you could be with us so speaking about college football going into the season a team that was supposed to be dominant. They were the usual suspects. Preseason top five you had alabama. You had oklahoma. Many people thought. Because of the fact that spencer rattler was coming back to oklahoma that they were the they should have been more of the preseason number one of Check the ap. The top five were alabama oklahoma clemson ohio state in georgia. Now take a look at them for teams. Take a look for those five teams namely alabama ohio state clemson and oklahoma. I really shouldn't add alabama here. People are just losing their minds on most because of the game against florida on saturday. But i'll go ahead. I'll play that game. I'll go ahead allah. I'll i'll go ahead and play with you. Four of those five college. Football programs mentioned before clemson ohio state alabama oklahoma those fourteenth. They're responsible for twenty of the twenty. Eight playoff berths in the first seven season in georgia played in the national championship. Game at twenty seventeen and they got there by beating. Oklahoma in the rose bowl would baker mayfield. Remember with him as being the toward the back of the team. The twenty twenty one season again could mark the first time since the first college. Football playoff in two thousand fourteen where the four teen field doesn't include at least three of these programs speaking about ohio state. Alabama clemson oklahoma. Now you can sit there and say well wait a minute wendell before we start speaking about the final four that includes coastal carolina cincinnati. Byu and shit. I don't know Florida before we still will have florida before we before we start going down that route. Let's let's remember that if the season ended today that alabama oklahoma was be the top two seeds along with oregon and georgia for the final two seats of the fourteen playoffs. Ano- did i mean. Did i forget to tell you that georgia again playing for the championship. In two thousand seventeen and oregon playing for the championship have already played the championship game. So we're speaking about new blood when we're speaking about change when we're speaking about parody when we're speaking about you know something new seems again with alabama. Oklahoma georgia in oregon. Were still speaking about the bluest of the blue. Bloods still being favorite to win the national championship or favored to be playing for the national championship. Okay all right all right but take a look at it. Take a look at what's going on right now. Outside of possibly alabama. I'm telling you man there's no dominant teams the acc used to be clemson's world and everybody was just paying. Rent is not like that anymore. So far this season through three weeks. Steve who knows man because of the talent that they have and because of the weakness of the conference that maybe i'm overreacting. Say that clemson. It's a little bit of trouble but i'm telling you man but that offense offensive line. Hey for the first time in a while the north carolina. Virginia tech's and i'm not going to say miami but there's some teams that actually have a chess actually having realistic shot of winning that conference or at least winning their conference championship. You take a look at the big. Ten used to be ohio state to blake playground. Now you take a look at how we that run defense is now you take a look at the inexperienced in the freshman that are starting now on the secondary. Now you take a look at the dish repair and disarray. That has been the defensive defensive coordinator who's going to be calling the plays and you take a look of the inconsistencies of the offense or you take a look at the inconsistencies of the quarterback all of a sudden. now you take a look at penn state. you take a look at wisconsin. You a look at michigan state. You take a look at michigan all of a sudden now. Those teams have a true realistic shot of believing that they can go ahead in usurp up in the ohio. State reign of terror on the big ten at for one more year. Same thing with the big twelve. Yeah you know what oklahoma who seems. Every year under the lincoln riley loses a game which they should win. They're susceptible vulnerable this year. More than ever offer those conferences. The big twelve the big ten in the acc rookie looking at all of those teams having new conference champions now you can sit there and say are you willing to bid on that. Oh you're willing to bet on that. That's not the point the point of the fact that finally we have something where it's a storyline is something that's intriguing. Something real is something that i don't know could actually happen to think about a man in the last couple of years. Can you really say that was straight face that hey man you know in the acc there'd be some real competition for for clinton. Could you say that without getting going off the gong show. Could you say that without being laughed. All out of the showtime at the apollo. Coordinate ain't nobody up there was going to believe you with a brain in their head. Even people stupid enough to vote for the clown that we had an office for the last four years are dumb enough to believe them stupidity for the past couple of years that clemson was actually going to have some competition in college. Football in the acc. Well hold on. How if you voted. Well if you voted for the fucking idiot that was in office for years ago. Well the maybe you are really stupid. You have to be really stupid but outside of them. I mean we really are looking at the possibility getting laughed at. If you said that. I mean even michigander even the most dedicated drinking the kool aid michiganders' the last couple of years didn't give michigan a shot against ohio state. And that's where they were clamoring for jim. Harbaugh do something or get lost oaklahoma. The same thing with chips king when when the chickens came home to roost. You really didn't think met campbell in iowa. State will going to post some real threat to oklahoma did you. I mean it was almost a situation will if it ain't texas and texas have been thousands. Vince vince young. Walked out of that door that Colt mccoy walked out of the door. That of the really had been too much competition for oklahoma the pack in the big twelve. So you're speaking over the past couple of years in even before that five six seven years. Now it's just been pure and other dominance ever though three teams in those conferences at least now seriously if you take a look at those teams. The they're playing right now you can take. The night was even though they lost to iowa. And i've always thought they were a little bit overrated in terms of them being a top ten top fifteen program but they really have shot you take a look at someone like penn state. They out of anybody have a real shot when they go ahead and they go up to the big house and they play or ohio state. I mean these needs are some teams now. That haven't realistic chance to whether they pull it off or not. It's almost like a situation. James franklin or a fun amac brown revolt many of these guys. I take a look at players in the is saying. Look guys let's be real. We don't get these guys now. I don't know when the cycle will turn around to when we will be able to really compete against these guys we get clumped if you're in the acc and you get clemson now. If you're virginia tech if your north carolina and you can't get come to this season when.

Like i think white people think that all black people can dance. Those can't dance if it's that for but in the end of nineteen ninety-one genesis put out this. Aw i can't dance. And i think that a lot of people like you know what you're right. So what and then how pain later puts out jump around. And they're like that. "Know, Jim, that was certainly tough. I definitely wasn't looking to leave New Orleans. I absolutely loved it. There was there for 13 years. I was there for Hurricane Katrina was there when you know the city kind of Came back to life if you will, and to be part of the Saint Organization to win that Super Bowl and see what it did for the Gulf. South was awesome. I wasn't looking to leave. That was a dream job to be the quarterback coach with the Saints working under Sean Payton, working with a guy like Drew Brees every day, but Just like I told the student athletes that we recruit on a yearly basis. I just couldn't ignore that feeling in my gut on my alma mater was down a little bit at that time, and I wanted to do my part to see if I can come back to a place that was special to me. And maybe try to help rebuild it. Maybe, you know, so that was such a challenge that you know, I just couldn't ignore that feeling in my gut when they presented me with the opportunity to come back, and I wanted to come make a difference and part of my roots in the arena League and trying to help build players back up. After they've been cutting the NFL and they thought, you know there was they were down and out, never counted down in the dumps. So I loved the challenge that you know, to come back to ball state and and then try to build something special, and I love having an opportunity to try to impact. 18 1920 year old young man to be difference makers in our world and want to help them all chase their dream. But I also want to help them be a difference maker in the world, and that's the part I love about college football. It's certainly working Mike, newest head coach of ball State, My tear point You had amazing situation with the Saints and again. You played quarterback in college and were very successful and you've worked with some really good quarterbacks along the way. Including Drew Brees. In fact, what was your biggest takeaway from your time with him? You know, the best part about grew Berries. I think his career and what he does on the field when everybody has a chance to watch them on TV. That speaks for itself. But he's such a phenomenal human being and to watch. You know, it made such a lasting impact with me. We would play a game. In the Superdome. It might have been over 4 30 or five o'clock and by the time you know all the postgame, uh, press conferences Rover family time we had a chance to get something to eat. He would take all the little kids whether it's his own kids. Kids of staff members, my son, he'd go back down to the game feel that he would throw the ball on that field with those little kids. For however long it took an hour or two hours and That left left such a lasting impression on my son and to see him No. One that we just got done playing a game and I know he's tired. Don't know which probably ready to go home and decompressed and Unwind a little bit. He's down there with the kids, and that just is such a remarkable human being. And, uh, I'm just he really is a better person than he is player and I know that's hard to believe, because his career was so special talking ball state football for a few more moments, Mike, I've got to ask about your quarterback Drew plate. He's been putting up numbers for years. What is it about him and his game that makes him special? Yeah, I love the swagger that he plays the game with, you know, when you play quarterback certainly got to be a confident on your abilities and you've got to believe in yourself, but he has a great swagger about himself. That's still humble and you know when, when he's out there, man. He is an ultimate competitor. He works extremely hard in the film room when the lights are off, and nobody's watching because he knows that part of the preparation is going to make the difference form on game day, and I'm just proud of them because you know he did something that's never been done here at Ball State, help them lead His football team last year in our program to the First bowl went in school history, and so, um, you know unfortunate to be able to work with a guy like that every day. He's still hungry, though, and you know nobody in our programs fat and happy after You know, accomplishing, you know a special year last year, and so it's great to be around the group of humble guys that are just ready to go back to work. And certainly, um, you know, Drew is one of those guys that is at the top of that list. So finally, you've got a great challenge, but a great opportunity Saturday. You've got Penn State in their place. What is your message to your team going into that game? And what is the key? Yeah, You know, Penn State coach Franklin's done a great job. That roster is loaded from top to bottom. Extremely talented, very impressive Opening game won at Wisconsin on the road. Really a big 10 slugfest type of game. But this will be the first time since 2019 that there will be 106,000 strong and Beaver Stadium. And so we got to handle the noise, which we've practiced our tail off all week long on making it as loud and obnoxious as we possibly can in our stadium with music or the crowd noise, everything we could possibly get our hands on. But they put their uniform on the same way that we do and yes, they're talented, but it's about us, making sure that we clean up our mistakes from game number one, and we put our best brand of ball state football out there on the field and And we've got to build the countenance of three ft. Feel confident in our game plan, and we've studied it. We just got to go out man and cut it loose and we can compete with anybody on underwear. Guys believe that and we're going to respect him because great program with a lot of great talent, and James Franklin's been a winner everywhere he's been, and so it's a great challenge. This is why you play the game, though, and this is a great opportunity for us as a program. Great opportunity. Great challenge for a great opportunity. I like it. I like it a lot. You get ball state at number 11 Penn State, He is the head football coach at Boston. Eight in his sixth season with the Cardinals, and they're coming off a huge year with a big opportunity this weekend. Mike knew my guess my great to talk to you. Thanks so much for that good luck this weekend and really good to have you on the show. Well, Jim, thank you so much for having you head football could from ball state on your show, and certainly big fan of yours And thank you again, just for the opportunity. Not appreciate that, Mike. Thanks for making time for the opportunity and very happy to give it to you. You made the show better. Appreciate that. Mike knew this is what we do here, right? It's we take a look at these things. And when you look at what he's accomplished a ball state when you look at what he inherited and what he's done. You know, Frankly, part of me is very happy to have a guy like that on and part of me feels that you've got to give people like that that opportunity and that platform because they've earned it. Hence the head football coach of ball state like when he says, you know, thanks for having the head coach at ball state on the program, my responses coach Good to have you on the program. You make the show better, and you definitely earned that spot. So we think about these things we think about who we put on where we put them on and why we put them on. There is a reason for all of these things. Now. On top of that the good news is the beef segment makes its triumphant return. Don't act like you don't have beefs. Because when it took a brief hiatus, a number of you were saying what happened to it? Where to go? When is it coming back? The answer is today. Today at 10 40. So get your thoughts together. "I think there's Oklahoma squad is vastly overrated. That's reality. Sometimes reality hurts, okay, and also you'll like this two lanes. 35 points are the most against an AP Top 10 opponents since 1987 their head coach at the time. None other than Mack Brown. Let's go to Wisconsin, Wisconsin came away with points and only one of its four red zone drive Saturday against Penn State. Nonetheless, they do fall to Penn State, Wisconsin, was ranked number 12 ahead of Penn State that was ranked number 19 and the Nittany Lions beat out the Badgers 16 to 10, rust or reality. For Wisconsin. What a boring football game. Another big 10 gets this unfair narrative about these rock fights, But quite frankly, it's Wisconsin, always in them. Wisconsin is very stout. Defensively. They like to manage the tempo and pace of a game. That's great. But at some point, give me a quarterback and go out there and make plays. Give me guys on the outside who can make moves in space and let me see a vertical down the field offense. Wisconsin doesn't have that and what it's been masked by for so long is elite running backs the latest one being Jonathan Taylor, who is there that Colts backfield making plays on Sunday? They don't have a big playback. They now have a quarterback who's even further exposed with a lack of that run game, And they don't have receivers targets to stretch you out. This team is boring to watch. This is what I expected from them. It's been a handful of years where it's been like this. I just don't take Wisconsin for anything more than a solidly above average football team. Tell us how you really feel. Well, yeah, I mean, I'm just tired of it. I mean the story and that one was in state pen stake in the big win on the road. And maybe James Franklin has that squad back. But they looked atrocious offensively to this was two very good defenses. But you're not going to go with any teams truly being elite unless there's some sort of pulse on the offensive side of the ball, and we just haven't seen that it pains me said about Penn State Sean Clifford their quarterbacks from our high school. He's a proud of Cincinnati. ST Xavier. Neither of these teams look like they're legit. The Badgers ran 21 plays in the Red Zone. They were held to just 31 yards on those. "Reality is Oklahoma always threatens flirts with being a CPT CRP team. They get their and their defense gets exposed. It's the same old story. I also think Spencer rattler. Might be a little bit overhyped. He made some questionable decisions against two lanes defense here, he did not look the part of a Heisman contender. I think there's Oklahoma squad is vastly overrated. That's reality. "Game, so our goal Is as much as we want to win all these games. We want to beat our rivals. We need to get back to it. We need to get to not back to We need to get to Indianapolis and play for a big 10 championship. So I put Wisconsin as number three. I got Washington coming in as number four, because even though it's not a conference game, like you said The national implications being on TV, uh, the the tone setting for the season that that big nonconference game for so many teams it not only Gets the positive momentum going, But when we look at the end of the season, when we're comparing two quality teams at the season, it's usually those non conference games that we look at. So I had them. At number four, uh, Indiana at number five because, like you said it was 80 was when you were playing pretty sure 85 80 86 was the last time in 1980 1987. I had to throw the jab and when I have the chance, GMO Uh, but you know, it's been since 86 since we lost to Indiana, so they come in at number five. You gotta and not only that they're predicted to be. I think that the second place team in the East this year or they're they're certainly A team that people expect to compete for the East. So I have them coming in at five Penn State and that that conference You know that that division I don't wanna say rival but like they're they're a team that we expect to compete for the East. So that's why I put them ahead. I think Northwestern, we'll have another good team. I have them finishing out My top seven With you, J Mo, But the fact that Penn State is in the East, That wind will mean a little bit more So again. I part of me just wants to crinkle this up and throw it out because I still can't believe I put Michigan State ahead of Ohio State. But yeah, that's that's my order. I'm going with here at least right now on the 24th of August here on our Kobe day, Um Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Indiana. Already, Uh, Washington, Indiana. Penn State. Northwestern is my seven. So miss, Who are you leaning? More towards myself for J. Mo over there. Well, first I've got to play this, Kobe. So there we go. Um I wanna I, Matt, I agree with you. I think the more the top team the the one that is, you know that it's got to be the must win. This year is October 30th at Michigan State. Last year was you know, we we got what was the old the old saying used to be? Yeah. High on your own supply you You know, you thought your your stuff didn't stink. Well, they came in and they made they put your nose right in it. And you found out for saying that it did stink. And now you gotta go up there and you got to do it right back to him. And then you got to do it in their house. They didn't you? They did you in your house. They kicked the door in with muddy shoes. Tracked it all over your nice clean carpeting. Put it on your coffee table, drank your blues ate your food, and they had their way with your entire household and left you with a dirty household. And you had to live with that for an entire year now, yet now it's your turn a little retribution. It's time for you to get back and take care of their house. Like they did yours. Number two. It's Ohio State. There's no doubt about it. How many? I mean, we've lost what 89 in a row now. Been way too damn long. And I know that You know it. Everyone keeps saying No. It's all about Ohio State's all by Ohio State when they are at the top of the mountain of this conference for the better part of a decade. Yeah, it's going to be tough to try to chop them down. But, uh, to give the game a dogfight rather than just laying down and have them trounce all over you. Yeah, that's that's that's a big thing right there. But getting that in states, you know that in state bragging rights. To me, it's bigger, especially when last year. We all thought that Michigan should have won that game and they didn't do it. Uh, number three. Indiana. You know, it's been, you know, almost as old as us, Matt. You know, since the last time that Indiana beat Michigan and I've always said this how many years have I said this that Indiana was going to be a trap game because it was always the game before. Ohio State was always the week end before Buckeye Week. Now it's not But you still have now You got an Indiana team that just that that's coming in this year, and they're saying You know what We're crashing the party. Now we're making ourselves known as being You know, we're going to be A problem in this East Division. We're going to be the problem. You gotta come through us. Now You want to get towards the top. You gotta come through us, and that's what Indiana is. That's why I got him at three. You're you're in November birthday too. Aren't you? Miss October 30th? I am the 29th. I should say on the day before Michigan State, So we were we were close, but so you work because you're just a few days older than me. My birthday's on November 11th. That that lost that J. Mo couldn't get it done against Corso over there. Uh, wait. Hey, you know you can't Corso was that the coach that I played? That? Would that would be coach That would be coached Mallory. He was the coach. Okay? No, no, Bill Mallory. Don't understand why they anyway. Okay. I had given Dakota. Okay. Well, I I don't know what Dakota you're talking about. So, yeah, that lost last year. That was the first I've seen in my lifetime. I guess the second because you were just a few days old. For that last one. But you're right. That is that is a big one. So to me, that's the number three number four. Uh, it's to me it's going to be Washington. Prime time under the lights at home your your first real test. Of of of college football. That's out of conference Western Michigan and I think could be a bit of a problem. They're projected to be one of the top teams in the Mac. But And and I hate the Pooh poohed away, And I'm sorry, Jack. You know Jack Miller. I know you're a mat guy, but it's still the Mac. Washington, Though That's a completely different story. I was next. I wasn't expecting to be a top 25 team. When the when the polls came out. They really haven't impressed me. They haven't really been much of an impressive team. You know, with the exception of that playoff appearance when they were under the, uh, the coaching, uh, lineage of Chris Peterson. But They are still a tough team there from a power five conference. They're part of the alliance now, so I mean, it's Yeah, to me. This is the first big test. That Michigan faces That's why I don't have him at number one, but I do have him further down at number four number five at Wisconsin. I think this whiskey matchup. I mean, how many times have as Michigan gone into Wisconsin and fourth quarter comes around, jump around plays? It gets loud at Camp Randall. The something it brews different up there in Madison, Wisconsin. And they've been pretty much down in the West, with the exception of the past two years when Northwestern found a way to sneak themselves in I've got Wisconsin at five. Number six. Uh, I'll go with Uh, let's go with at Penn State. It's a white out game. James Franklin Appreciate your comments. I think Michael Key plays a better coach than you. "Yeah well obviously they're not going to do that So again just when you think you wanna trust these guys again They they go in a different direction. I'm let me call on ryan day. I've only talked about it earlier. About his recruiting but so many people are are trying to differentiate urban and ryan day. And i know ryan day is not one of the title but his. His resume is just unbelievable. How would you differentiate these two And are you in. Why are you optimistic That ryan day is going to continue this on other than the brand is ohio state liberal one. Both those guys are extremely intelligent. Way day is very intelligent. I mean i think that has a lot to do with success. He knows what he knows and he knows what he doesn't know and wants to find out you know That's one way of the curiosity factor. There takes you a long way when you're the leader of a of a program or corporation or whatever you know so number one. That's what both of those guys have going for him. you know. Urban meyer walked into house state and it was almost like a rock or a front man. You know Taking the stage ryan day was the guy playing. You know maybe rhythm guitar back there in the you know the last couple of years when he got hired as he quarterbacks coach and then elevated pretty much to the office coordinator Or at least had you know those kind of duties when he had that Three game Sabbatical when urban had three game suspension and And ryan had three day three game intern ship. I guess what. I should say as the head. Football coach Once again he leaned on guys to help him get through it but he also showed leadership that just struck gene smith. Big time and the thing about rand. He's you know he just strikes you as this real guy. You know what i mean. Urban you know for urban strikes. A lot of people i think is almost you know unless you know him. He's almost unapproachable or something. Like sort of you know Like a lot of people are afraid to like even go up and say hi you know and But i've always found urban engaging when i when i get to talk to him so You know it's it's what you know what you don't know an regard but ryan is very personable You know these recruits. He's taken what he's taking a lot of what urban left behind like the real life quincy program and stuff and people can laugh at things like that all the time but you know those things that's really come into bear big time now with the names. You likeness ohio. State has been working really hard to prepare. You know the players for for life after football or life postal. how state and Yeah that's a great recruiting tool to. There's no doubt about it because a lot of players come in and talk about that but ryan is taking it to another level now you know. He embraced all the challenges of the covy situation. Just like make saving did just like devo did. That's why they were back in the playoffs last year when other we'll love other programs maybe struggled and but that's what i like about him. He's always looking for a new way to do things and he's very engaging Football clinic or where. he was Giving a lecture one time and it crowd dwindled down to pretty much just about five or six of us. Sports raise and a couple of the coaches weren't asking any questions. And i just started asking him questions about different things and their offense and he was answering them. Those pretty cool you know and But it just gives you a good feeling about the guy because all the recruits and everybody talked about the family atmosphere to house state when when they show up and i don't think they're i don't think they're bs. I mean two three. Mola while the kid that they just signed the five star you know. He's big he's polynesian background and they're big on family and stuff and he just loved allows stayed love dealing with the coaches but especially the player. So when you foster that in your program it takes you places before you go. What what's the big ten look like in. Please include a conversation about jim harbaugh in that answer dude. I'm as perplexed as you are about. What's going on at michigan. What their aim is Giving him the contract that they gave him. You know almost like giving a guy rope you know Yeah i mean. I'm i'm perplexed because it's they might be better quarterback but people were saying that for a while now You got to kind of wait and see what happens there but The man of players. They've had to leave in the transfer. Portal situation is stunning in my opinion over the last Several months and you tend to think it's in the high teens now and so what's going on is like you know. I think even people that are covering the michigan program are kind of scratching their heads about. What's going on there because it's perplexing. Meanwhile what's going on in indiana is equally perplexing in the opposite direction. Because you know they've gotten quite a few commitments now from pretty good football players. You know i'm not gonna say stole a kinda guy from ohio state. But when he is dad got named An assistant coach here by tom allen and he reneged on his State commitment and is going out to indiana big-time linebacker player. I mean This plumbing those are the kind of things that are going on in this league. right now. they're scratching your head. It's kinda hard to figure out. Where james franklin and penn state are right now. They had a decent recruiting year but not a great year And you know like we talked about paula. My podcast you know of the big ten eastern was upside down except for the team at the very top last year. I mean it was crazy rutgers. Great ciano as may data destination. Welcome destination for me the Praise for portal kids. Like i was talking about a while ago. That may be one chance at being number. One is still number two That's really changing the face of that program over the last two years and john. What's your what's your opinions. Were of him. I'm done at you. i'm talking about you. Know general you We all know what happened at the tip for the tennessee. Job knows what's going on in tennessee. Now maybe they'll get their act together who knows But the bottom line is great channels a great fit at rutgers in the show and he's a great fit there so just the big ten east to me is very is very interesting going to this year. Michael phoenix junior. Plays like he did last year. You know in indiana and You know who's going to be the host eight quarterback everybody believes that if if cj styles named the starter. He's gotta be on that heisman. Watch list by the second or third week you know. Especially after the oregon game that'll be the telltale thing but but yeah ended in the west. I think the west is a wide open shootout and You know you can't pick wisconsin based on their background and what they've done lately but north western you know was there a year ago and you got minnesota definitely making waves and you know finally iowa may have two or three years really good back back back you know that's been the big us called a sign or cosign you know version of kirk. When he's been there had good years dropped way off and goodyear's again trump way off. You know it's it's really. It's really going to be interesting. Mel tucker. I think is recruiting very well michigan..

"Walked into that game, knowing even if we win, we're not going to tell from where they were. My freshman year was cool Asians It was. Don't get me wrong. It was very much That was a likable Penn State team as well. Wow, that means from you coming from you. That is why they must have really been likable. I like trace. McSorley, I was say, quit on that when I was a breakout. That was the big year for stay quiet. Miles Sanders was the backup. Yes. No. No, not that You said this wasn't there? No, no, but I will say this as much as I dislike Penn State. And I have nothing against se Quem Barkley. I'm a fan of sake. Warm Barkley. Oh, I would hope that he could stay healthier than for the rest of his career because the last two years have have been disappointing to start to career for sacred Barclay. For some reason, I always even though I wasn't rooting for Penn State This will sound weird with that. But I'm about to say I could root for trace McSorley and also say, Quan, I just like the competitive edge that one trace McSorley had. And should have been criminal the way that James Franklin and Who is it, Ricky Ronnie. In the Ohio State game. Yes, Ricky Ronnie was the offensive coordinator that on fourth and five, said Let's run the ball and Chase Young said. Okay, thank you. Now who was who was the running back there? That was, while Sanders that was mild stance. They never chance. Yeah, You don't take the ball to trace McSorley's hands, then no in that spot That was bad. And that James Franklin, this is my favorite James Franklin moment. That whole wheat press conference. We're now we're you know, we're great. But if we want to be elite, we gotta have her kids show up to class in the first row and sit in the first row. We'll have got like 45 guys that are sitting in the second or third row. Give me a break. And state though we're gonna be joined by one of their former offensive linemen coming up at 8 P.m. Eastern five, Pacific Out of in Smith and, you know Donovan Smith was one of the Penn State players that has appeared in every Super Bowl. All the Super Bowl's Penn State has had a player appear in every Super Bowl. Right? Did I miss something? He's one of the 55 right? That was the graphic that pace they put out their roles. And await. Someone just texted me. There's no fine print. Look at the fine print except the five suit except five Super Bowls. What a lame graphic that was Really was. So we'll be joined by Donovan Smith from the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 8 P.m. Eastern and then coming up in about 25 minutes from now Greg Bell will join us he covers the Seahawks will get a whole Low down on this entire Seattle Seahawks situation with Russell Wilson there ago. You situation another time. But if some people think I'm getting paid to use the word situation today, I want to know how the NFL family perceive it because the MBA now we expect big moves, and people asked all this all this potential movement, Ramsey Adams. Matthew Stafford is a good for the NFL. I think so. Because You know, years ago, the NFL off season would be pedestrian. Now. I don't love when a player just signs a contract like Paul George and Shawn Watson. They went out, but I get it from what Paul George was doing, and also what the Shawn Watson was doing. Watson, situational but different than Paul George. But I don't mind where you go into an off season and you have all the speculation, you know, have a damn clue what's gonna happen. Because Shawn Watson should get traded. We'll see if he will, and Russell Wilson. I don't think he's going to be traded. But I kind of am sitting on pins and needles here and you start to wonder with all this.

"Of this 2020 2021 football season. Remember what in June Get this season in. Are we gonna get this season in on time? And really, when you saw the first big outbreak with the Tennessee Titans, and then you saw another outbreak, not that long afterwards with the Baltimore Ravens. I kept on saying is the NFL like they're going to get through the season. But why not? Just create that week 18 And I got to get the NFL credit even at times if it seemed chaotic, and it seemed as if We weren't gonna be able to get this season and on time. They found a way to get it done, even if it meant Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday night football from happening, So I'm gonna transition here and we'll bring back up the game in just a second, because I got a few keys that I want to look at before we get to Damien Woody at the top of the hour. There's a very disturbing story now about the Chiefs coaching staff, and Andy Reid son Britt Reid, who is an outside linebackers coach. He's an assistant on Andy Reid's staff. So this is from pro football talk. This is a developing story. I know. The chiefs have released a statement, and I just saw right before we did go to break that Ian Rappaport and you expect this to be the case, But we're just giving you the information as we have it as close to real time as we can. And Robert Ford said Now that Britt Reid will not coach in the game, which Obviously, there's a lot of other things that rush through your mind when you see a story of this magnitude first, But when you go through the entire thought process, yes, you knew Britt Reid wasn't gonna be coaching in this game. But here's a story just do you know what's what's happening here? Chief's assistant coach. This is all from pro football talk. Britt Reid, the son of head coach Andy Reid omitted he was drinking alcohol before a car accident Thursday night with the child suffer who suffered like threatening injuries. Two Children. Actually injured in the crash, according to 41 Action News. One of them was a five year old who suffered life threatening injuries on my The car crash happened shortly after 9 P.m. on Thursday and Interstate 4 35 near the chief's practice facility. Reed reportedly told the police that the pickup truck he was driving and this is Britt Reid, just tow confirm Hit a car that had pulled over after running out of gas. Um, as well as another vehicle that had come to assist that vehicle. The two Children were in the second vehicle. Police said that Britt Reid acknowledged he'd been drinking before the crash. Police also say they get smell alcohol on Britt Reid and that his eyes were bloodshot. Britt Reid told officers he had two or three drinks the organization that's the statement from the cheese. The organization's been made aware of multiple vehicle accident involving outside linebackers Coach Britt Reid, the team senator statement. We're in the process of gathering information. We have no further comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in pro football talk does point down. That Britt Reid did plead guilty to D U I in 2008 and was previously jailed for road road rage charge, So I don't really know what else I could say in terms of this. You have heard my thoughts before. It is never the right decision to drink and drive. There's nothing good could come out of drinking and driving. I've shared on this on this show. A buddy of mine, who unfortunately was driving his car and a drunk driver hit him. His entire car got totaled, flipped over. It was a truck. He ended up breaking a leg and somehow he survived. And now he's actually just a different note. He actually just got engaged, which was which was nice to see. But this past year has been held for a lot of people. What deal? Mako vid losing your job and a buddy of mine who's a teacher was driving? Minded his own business. Drunk driver hits his car. His car gets totaled. The drunk driver had a passenger in his car, and that passenger and it was a family member of the drunk driver ended up dying. That was The story with with my friend, too. Luckily did survive. But once you get on the road, you may be safe. You may be the person that you know when you're in your car. You think you're doing everything the right way and because someone wants to drive drunk. I've zero tolerance for that. And my mom also She was hit by a drunk driver as a kid, so I have no tolerance and no sympathy for anyone that drinks and drives. And in this case, and I'm just judging based off. What we have in the article at Bert Reed clearly is not going to coach in the game. And who knows what else is gonna happen to him? So my first thoughts are that everyone and you read Like threatening injuries. You hope that People are able to make a recovery. But when you read that you What else is there to say? You you see what it says Life threatening injuries. There's nothing good about that. So This will be a story line and Let's see. Other Chiefs do handle it in terms of the game. You know, I hate to make that transition. But in terms of the game, I think Britt Reid is is pretty replaceable. I would imagine an assistant coach on the staff so Yeah, That's something you don't expect to ever read. You don't expect to see And you're getting set to go fly out because the chief's gonna fly out on Saturday. Gonna follow the same game plan as they did when they went to Tampa Bay, and they got the victory 27 2 24 a few weeks ago in week 12 Just something that all you could do is really just shake your head at and hope that Everyone ends up being okay here, but it doesn't seem like that's gonna be the case. And whoever the victims were going to be your heart just drops when you read that they were to two young Children who are in the crash, and once again, it's according to 41 action News. One of them was a five year old to suffered life threatening injuries. It's just it's criminally unfair. That's what it is. Zack, help show CBS Sports Radio. As I said, there's no easy transition. But when we do get to this game coming up on Sunday, and we'll be joined by Damien Woody at the top of the hour, and DJ Maura's well in the next hour will do on sides all sides on this football. Friday news brief. We'll get to gust Perata's well, who will have his picks Got we do a little change up on your fellow curveball archa. Each and every week on football Friday. We fact Gus on at nine. We're gonna save Gus for the final segment. Today We'll end the show out with picks. I have not revealed my pick yet. Trace. Have you revealed? I don't think you revealed your pick. Right? You didn't tell me yesterday? No, no, sir. So maybe we'll throw you into that second. Wow. Wow. Cool you off the bench for the big game to call up to the big leagues. Better bring my a game. Now you better not mess up. Better Keep it condense. Give us your pick and boom away. We go. We'll throw in. I was looking at the standings. By the way I've officially clinch. The playoff championship, and here's something else. You know, I lost the regular season to Gus when you do the total record because I kicked his Toshi so much in the postseason. My total record will be better. Wow. So that you know, tweet understanding. Maybe just, you know, combined record, See who got it Done. What? My Penn State football have told her all the facts. Well, we're thinking about technicalities here. You're not wrong, And they're not wrong. How about your own My mater? What a bunch of losers with that social media tweet. So what? They claim that every Super Bowl but five Super Bowls. They've had a player, I guess on either team, or just at least one player representing their school, right? Yes. Now if they put it out there like that. No one is saying, Boo. No one is saying a word about it. So 55 Super Bowls will happen, You know? Well, you know that the 55 Super Bowls on Sunday So for people that don't know what we're talking about, Penn State puts out a tweet. And it was Penn State has had a player play in every Super Bowl. That's like the big bold is because in big letters, you can't miss it. You can't miss it and I go. Wow, that's actually pretty neat. That they've had a player participate in each and every Super Bowl. Then, if you zoom in on the teeny, tiny, teeny, tiny, teeny tiny font at the bottom of the photo at the bottom of the graphic, it says. Except five Super Bowls. So Michigan finally got a W because they respond to back and they said Tom Brady has played in every Super Bowl except 45. You should be embarrassed. That is James Franklin, though. James Franklin is a good football coach. He's a loser, though. Is that too harsh? I mean, Jace fuckers out tweeting that. Yeah, but he has. You know, he has no no, he does not.

"Partner. I know those guys could take some shots. But the reason I brought up Steve Smith is because they were so good in 1980. Maybe it's more of a question for stand because you kind of came right after that, But you played with guys on that 81 team. They were. They look like they're without question playing for a national championship, and they kind of crapped the bed on in their opener. I don't know why they opened on the road in a big 10. Game it Wisconsin. But they did. And he had a really rough time. And you know was it was really on that kid shoulders Or was there other things going on? And again? This one question for staying because you worked there. Right, But there are other things but stand. I mean, but Steve Smith was young and I'm sure knowing that coaching staff because I would know that go just that they didn't want to put a lot on him. They didn't want to infuse the whole often on him. So they held things back. No knowing coach him back like that was the way itwas I'll tell you this year. I agree with you on James Franklin and big moments he has frozen up when it comes to play calling. I think about that one point loss that he had at home to Ohio State. That was ridiculous. But the part about you know if If James Franklin if Jim Harbaugh had done what James Franklin is not actually beat Ohio State and when the big 10 East will be talking about Harbaugh, you know it's a deity and you know that stuff. That's the one part Y pause a little bit on Franklin and I'll cut him too much, because, yeah, Game day and they just came in and armor and smack Michigan upside the head, even though they hadn't won a game this year, so I'm having a hard time, you know, going after him too hard. Well, I'm telling you, I'm looking. I'm finally looking. I'm just I'm just thinking that this is here that we finally break through. We got new blood in there that we can go on the road and beat somebody Tell you this, I'll tell you this right now bringing up Steve Smith. You talk about a door, Fred guy that I would love to see him run a spread offense today, he because that kid had some wheels. Remember? They said that he had Jamie, you would know. Did he really have 45 speed? But I remember that we say he was 45. Yes. Yeah. Could you imagine having him today? That would be because he had my sorrow to do? You would have been really nice fit for the for the present day offices and spread offense today, many to throw that ball control now. I'm not back by the time he got out of there, He really woz. I just feel bad. You know that. You know, In his first year, there was somebody expectations for that team and you know they had a rough year, obviously considered all considering what their expectations were, but You know, but hey, guys, I'm saying 10 wins this year. That's what I'm telling you. 10 wins. Glad I'm telling you Are words. All right. Hey, If Steve Smith was playing nowadays you would transfer because Harvey, I wouldn't play him. Oh, I'm sorry. That's just a joke. You know, Jim's gonna get it right. He's the quarterback coach now. He's gonna figure out what's one of these guys, and he's gonna have a bounce back season like Brian Kelly and Mark Antonio and Things. They're gonna be restored a little bit here. That's the whole right. So it I'm point I'm gonna get out. Last Castle of Kool Aid is what I'm saying, right? Yeah. I just got to get on board with it. You know, at some point you either, you know? Are you there in her out? Come on. You're in. You're in. Basically here that I don't want to hear that crack. You just made the list. Exactly. Well, hopefully it starts with recruiting day and we get that type of from Michigan State. We steal him away. That zoning right there. Yeah. Hey, that's where Shawn No, it is right now doing what he's supposed to be doing. You want to start turning in a shares like I put myself in that category right now. Flipping Benny would be a nice start getting this kid Dixon is in a transfer portal on and haven't Bellamy deliver him? Yeah, that's how I'm gonna start feeling better. Any word on the scheme that they're actually going to run on defense and any clue at all. Yeah, I think they're gonna run a 34. Yeah, but we haven't heard from the just but yeah, This is what they're used to. I think these these two coaches, they they've been running Only 34 their whole career so far, so I don't know why they would change. We got to put some serious weight on Mr Hinton. Then do we not Yeah. Or find somebody like I know you. You said they're hard to find in the portal. But I think they're hard to find in general anywhere, right? I mean, you think about you having to gabs era technique kind of guy. I don't think you're let him walk off campus. Sorry. So we gotta develop somebody through strength and conditioning as the way I'm looking at. I don't think that guy's out there if he's out there great. But we're gonna have to develop somebody. That's just my feeling. I think you're right. Okay, Well, thanks for the phone call to talk to you tomorrow. 734 99 10 50. Let's go to Mustafa. What's up More stuff for Doing good. How are you? I'm doing well now. Yeah. Yeah, It's good to hear from you. You and Jamie were going at it last last time. Everybody could have disagreements and that's fine. Look, I I'm just trying to tell everyone Every player is not going to be loved four years you fall in love with that player as he improves or Are we not or he doesn't improve and you just don't like him and I get it. But you gotta give me play. You can absolutely say I don't want to see this player ever again because Yes, what you may you may be skipping the great year he's having or the next great leap year or something like that. As I said, Brian, Greasy is a perfect example. That 97 season..

College Football: Ohio State, Clemson and two season-defining drives

"College football continues to be wild. It continues to be wacky and it continues to deliver with every part of drama that I want. And yesterday we got it with those two months dries from Clemson in Ohio State, maybe perhaps saving their college football, playoff chances here, the first part of the season. Yeah, you know, the frustrating thing for me is we've been talking over the past several weeks, Alabama has yet to show any sign any sign of whatsoever. Right. And for a while, we were saying that Ohio State was kind of the one lone saving grace. We take a high of state can can compete, but Mahanta state verse TCU they took to the third quarter for them to finally exert their dominance. And last night that game looked a lot more like the look. A lot more like Penn State lost that when then Ohio State won at Dwayne Haskins, you know, looked very humid you took. You took that that was a Penn State choke job. I mean, look at the fourth down. There's there's a, there's a whole Twitter, anarchy right now over the play calling at the end of that game. You know what happened is fourth down and five after Ohio State takes the ball, what ninety plus yards to score after being down two touchdowns with eight minutes to go James Franklin in urban Meyer have like a time out, like who's going to like basically it was like an old school western duel, right? You call your time out and let me see what play you're running. And then James Franklin calls the time out in Franklin decides at this point that he despite having trace McSorley go for what it seemed like nine thousand yards in that game. I know it was only what four hundred in. Four hundred seventy yards of total offense. He decides to take the ball out of McSorley hand and run a quarterback draw on fourth in five.

Ohio State football has everything at stake against Penn State

"We got Penn State Ohio State this weekend, and it's a playoff game. It is, what do you expect? Well, and to your point, people always like expand the playoff and go to eighteen sixteen teams. This is a playoff game. It is. This is an elimination game. I'm going to be at another one up. These are the games and we talk about this game on this show because with that playoff predicted that tells you even if you were just an essay. Person, and that's all you watch. You don't watch any game outside of the conference. You need to keep an eye on this one because you're going to see more than likely one of these teams because listen that play predictor at Penn State where to win this game this weekend, they're the ones that are gonna take over that number four spot. I expect shootout and going into the year, honestly before I was there and personal Saturday, I'm might not have believed that Ohio State could keep up in a shootout with trace McSorley and Penn State. Dwayne Haskins is, is the truth may legit, oh, he's the truth. And there's a reason Joe boroughs at LSU. Yeah, Joe borough is at LSU because Dwayne Haskins beat him out for the Ohio State quarterback job. They engaged in quite a battle during the spring Haskins ultimately wins at I in Happy Valley all day Tuesday. I'm doing a big feature for sportscenter on Saturday on one of a Penn State's offense of linemen. And I talked spoke extensively with James Franklin who you see here, not only for that feature but about his team. He loves his team. They lost a ton offensively. This saquon Barkley to the New York Giants day. Sean Hamilton was one. Of the best and most underrated wide receivers in the country. Last year they got bowlers. So you would expect, okay, they're going to fall off authentically, oh, Appalachian state gave them all they could handle in week one that was actually a great learning experience with this group. So they have resorted all trace McSorley does is win. He is tougher than woodpecker lips man. And I think this one is going to be attract me. I agree with you, and it's going to be so fun to what I learned this from you that trace McSorley won four consecutive state championship, all he does win. All it does all that that young man does is win football games
