"By the time it was really over in the fourth, they let the rockets keep creep a little bit closer. I'm less concerned about tonight than what we saw in OKC. Somebody said LeBron travel, silenced a villa. Yeah, if you saw that picture that's going around. There's a picture of LeBron and behind him in the crowd. It looks like LeBron. He's wearing a hat and like a brown jacket or something, and it looks like it's LeBron sitting in the crowd watching LeBron, spooky that is happening on Halloween, but people are saying it's time traveler LeBron coming back in time to watch himself play or something like that. Just a funny picture. You guys will have to find it, if you haven't seen it. Somebody asking if we can sign James Ennis can the Lakers still sign James and it's no, they gave their 15th roster spot to Avery Bradley. So they no longer have an open roster spot for him. If rob pulling a wakes up tomorrow and says James Ennis, if we sign him, we're winning a championship. We must have him. They could wave somebody. They could wave they could wave Avery Bradley if they wanted to. He's on a non guaranteed deal, Austin Reeves. Deal is non guaranteed. You could waive him. You could waive somebody with a guaranteed contract if you want to pay the full amount if you really had to free a roster spot, but those are very, very unlikely things to happen at this moment. Most likely, the Lakers will not be signing James Dennis. Andre, what would you need to see to add mellow to the 360 award? So in other words, are we calling? And then the second question right after William Myers said, if and only if mello can keep his game playing level where it's at, or maybe even better, do you think it'll be time to consider that we have a big four? There's been some good games so far from Carmelo Anthony, but we are now what 7 games into the season? I'm not ready to make that change just yet. And look, it's not me hating on Carmelo Anthony. Carmelo Anthony has been great and you can argue that he's played at a superstar level, especially the last couple of games. He also had another one earlier in the season where he went for like 28 points, and he was playing at a superstar level and that one as well. But part of what I've admired the most about Carmelo Anthony was that everybody was questioning can he be a role player? And there was a lot of doubt about that. People said he's not going to be able to accept that. He's not going to be able to transition from being a star to being a role player, right? Dwight Howard made that transition. It's not an easy one. Vince Carter did it. Some players can't. Some players are not able to do that and their careers and prematurely because they don't want to be a role player. They've spent their whole life being the guy and to suddenly not be the guy anymore. Instead, just be a guy just be another guy coming off the bench, it's a tough transition to make. And Carmelo Anthony to his credit, he proved it with Portland that he could do that that he could take kind of a backseat that he could do what the team needed him to do in order to win games..

NBA trade deadline 2020 surprises

"Other very minor trade deadline day deals from today. You guys all run through. Stop me if you've You've got something to say about them. The magic acquired James Ennis from the sixers for a second round. Pick the nuggets acquired choir Jordan mccray from the Grizzlies for Shabazz Napier. The rockets acquired Bruno Komo glow from the Grizzlies Jordan Bell. The hawks acquired Derek Wilton junior from the clippers for cash. Does he already waived. Oh they got their initial report. was that the hawks. Were sending back cash to the clippers clippers but then it was corrected cash was come in with Derrick Walton Junior. They not only do the hawks get a player who I believe. They're waving but they got some. Okay how's it was just a cash trade exchanging exchanging dollars and then the hawks also acquired scalp and two million dollars cash. I think from the Blazers for a future heavily protected second round pick I think its top fifty five protected. We descended a few times so we say one thing on scowl shirt in some limited portland. I thought he was actually decent. I thought he's athletic. He's good at both ends ends of the floor. It means he's not going to change a franchise around but I think he's he's a play. It was still some potential there. How many centers the Hawks and they've got dwayne deadman Now and obviously starting five of senators right now cadman Bruno Fernando scale and Damian Jones. I can't wait for the rockets and the Hawks looks to match up against the Senate's it's the skills challenge versus

"I for sure and yeah and wall and nobody had this inkling that Kevin Durant is going to end up on the nets just yeah you're right. I mean I mean there's some steam there in what felt like the last couple of days leading up to free the yeah. There's just in a <hes> in a world where everything is out there. It's been pretty quiet. Eight plus plus says task on the net stuff to target all right sixers were extremely extremely actes then change their team here. They signed Al Horford four years. One hundred nine million really like ninety seven million twelve million dollars in league championship incentives so you know it's a it's a it's around for years one hundred million. Let's call it that that was the mystery team. It was the Philadelphia Seventy sixers. They retain Tobias Harris five years one hundred eighty million dollars. That's Max. They acquired Josh Richardson in the Jimmy Butler fourteen trade. They retained Mike Scott two years ten million retain James Ennis two years four point one million signed Colin Quinn when you're vets minimum and then Ben Simmons. Here's reported has been offered a five year contract extension by the team. They lost Jimmy Butler who will get to and we talked about the heat of course and they lost J._J.. Rettig what's your grade for the sixers. Yeah I go a MIDAS okay <hes> because they were covered really well from Jimmy Butler you know they gave up a huge package for him for whatever reason they decide going forward. We don't want Jimmy part of our team. Now there's conflicting reports as to whether or not maybe they did did offer him a contract and left <hes> but I think they recovered extremely well. Be Bringing Al Horford and you bring in Josh Richardson for for Jimmy Butler who would literally the guy that they were rumored to be trading four when there were Jimmy Route Jimmy Butler rumors out there at the trade deadline right so I think that's when he was with the wolves and there was wolf he talked right and it was like oh we'll the heat include Josh Ridge than on on always too valuable yeah so yeah it was before the trade but really yeah you look at that starting lineup and it's Ben Simmons Josh Richardson in Your Back Court and your forwards are who's my small forward and missing Oh Tobias Harris and Al Horford along with Joel and beats gigantic. It's huge now. People are saying well. They're going the other direction. There are going to big when everybody else is going small. Listen Milwaukee is big too. They can shoot the differences. Philadelphia can't shoot. That's the question. Will they be good enough offensively. I think it's really all up to Joel embiid getting in better better shape now for all of the he was sick talk against the the Toronto Raptors. I think part of it was he. Just couldn't play forty minutes a game as the number one option. I think he's gotta get lighter and then all this stuff makes sense twice Harris if if drumbeats not good in the future Tobias Harris at five hundred eighty whatever it is five years Max is not a good contract right but if Joel embiid is great this Al Horford contract is phenomenal this even if he's paid till thirty seven I don't care it's all up to Joelovesbeets Simmons F._I._V. Tobias Hairs at five years Al Horford at four years. One hundred million all make sense if Joel embiid is good if not then they fall back step but but do you think there's more pressure on embiid to sort of go next level or Ben Simmons to go next level well yeah. It's a IT'S A it's a fair question. I think it'd be we know can get there. We've seen it Ben Simmons. I don't know if they're rich Paul somehow getting him a five-year Max ax contract extension on being not a great player. He's good very good but great defender. Obviously a nightmare in transition can fill up the box score but but he didn't take a shot outside of the paint into a playoff games so rich Paul is convinced. He's GonNa get better. I guess what else do I mean. They gotta give this a go..

"Insider Grainger studios reminder coming up on ninety minutes from now it is the blazers and the nuggets game four from Portland last time they were on the court. They play basketball for a while in the end after four overtimes, Mike Malone's, Denver Nuggets fell short, and you try to learn from the loss and rather battle, you know, both teams are exhausted social thing for them as for us. So we will not use it as an excuse. We haven't used it all year long wall start using it now Mike Malone's nuggets series two games to one not since the days of red our back. Poaching testing PJ it we have a game goes long as it did the other night in the playoffs. Back to you guys in Philly. Thanks have only forty one hours from when that gave Mandalay tip off guys. Log in sixty minutes in that game. Right here. We got type dam Eighty-one. Who knows how long we're going to tell you what I don't know if it's a medical fact testy, but I guarantee you Denver was more tired than Portland was after that game James Ennis on the floor will find buffalo before he passes. Kyle our a little too tight on that is foul. The third of this quarter against Toronto and the third against Lowery in the game. That is significant not three individual files are tower. Three team fouls already on the raptors nine thirty four remaining tied for the tenth time of game for inbound comes to Jimmy Butler, seventy shoot as he works. His way to the left against Lowery, spins against Lowery, still pushed out tipped away by lower Butler gets it back wheels. And fires. Goes in. I'm white meltdown down has that was car allowing not to lose. Oh, what a bad foul here James is full board the advantage that the Sixers had. The second on NS, but how Butler that internal clock? Knowing the shot clock was winding down. Turning wheeling firing off the glass it end. Four. A federal. Signal James Ennis, I fought for a fall in the back court where there was a personal foul James Ennis, the bene Leonard technical missing as the first free. Throw miss by the Toronto Raptors game for the afternoon. What do they call it off the ball or just a regular technical would have been before the inbound? That's exactly what it is the ball while had yet to the inbounded James his picking full board committed the foul. I just saved the announcement on the public address. Did not hurt the Sixers as to why. Leonard misses the free throw about that Bank shot by Jimmy partly ball. Got knocked away from his back to the basket. He saw little time was left just turned shot at bly back today. Raptors down three because of that Butler three nine minutes to go Siaka, right, orange, seventy shoot. We're gonna get it took a Saul does Joe solid. The mid post passing out Lau a ball fake with two drives to the baseline Phages. Fires barely caught the side of the red Tobias Harris with the revised sixties got to be careful with their shot selection. Right now prep project. Stop Ben Simmons and made a call. I gotta figure beats up on top. It's a pick and roll with Harrison MB. Alright. So Butler has the ball. Excuse me, driving too. Big steps Mullane hangs. Mrs nearly got his own miss tipped out box. All the way to the far side out of bounds. It'll stay with Philly Bawku is just try to keep that ball. Out of the hand of a Sixers mid surge. And the bias Harris in the first row without the charter sorry PJ two point three on the shock. Why they didn't they said notice session? So just tap it out. Eighty four eighty one Philly twenty six ago, James Ennis will inbound about two strides from half court with two point three on the shot clock gets into Harris at the top squares for three missed it off the iron. It was typically lose four thousand go against Toronto gonna call it Pasco Siaka. I thought they were going to call it on Bentsen. That's what I thought like Ben was using PASCAL shoulder to go off. But instead they said PASCAL was pushing off again, we keep talking files. But that is now four team fouls on the raptors. So he get eight twenty two to go. Next foul OB and the bonus fourth personal on PASCAL Ceac him inbounded Simmons up by three of the Sixers drives five Harris base clock qualify Bacha. There's lower the other way just inside a half-point with the rafters down three passes to Siachen on the right hands it off to Leonard Hawaii holding the outstretched right arm. Now switches to the left into the mid post ten. To shoot sends it out gets it back hassle by Butler, spins to the base like lost the handle. Pets at least a six over Leonard hearing game and many of them almost all of them were near the basket. Most of them are like occurred within like ten feet of the basket. Did that your mom passed? But everything else is as gets in close in spins it, it just gets away from him. Eighty four eighty Philly seven forty nine to play four quarter Passover to Harris drives the baseline fives 'em beat a MacLeod spinning in the way. Triple team gets rid of it Harris has a look for three. It's on its way. No, good rebounded by Leonard and a loose. Ball foul. Kyle Lowry ended up on the deck thousand go against Billy James Anderson's just committed to files. One hundred one to bed is out of bounds ninety four feet away. And that one was about seventy eight feet away from the basket when they already had four tune team foul advantage. That's to me poor files by James now has three total as you said Philadelphia with three team fouls now Mark Davis is headed over to the monitor. Checking out maybe when NS knocked down lowering going through that imagine seeing if you trip them what he fell it didn't look like a flavored. I'd love to see another replay the indication I'm about a minute ago was tripping signal from Mark Davis on that foul. Meanwhile to free time out for both teams the raptors huddled over in front of their bench. And now the Sixers headed to their side with seven thirty six to go in the fourth. Here's your look at the ABC replay. I'll tell you. What was he tripped? At the reason he did Kyle Lowry kind of elbowed him and not them down. They've come up with a decision. Just a common foul, but it was kind of a retaliation still silly foul pile our in James Ennis were hooked up trying to clean them out with his left elbow chesting knocked him down. So he stuck his foot leg, I'll think of the best. That's team foul. Number three. They had a big advantage. They should have one foul James just committee. Tim fouls inside the free throw line. In the backboard Terada. Megan pay eighty four eighty one six or seven twenty eight ago, they go to Gosol baseline left against Harris into the lane bumps with the left shoulder fakes the turn up the hook missed it. A Bacha offensive rebound at a foul underneath against Billy. Big lineup is hurting really on the glass down near the saw had a smaller player on him. He got the hook shot. Doc, but missed it. But a box had a smaller player on him. He got the offensive rebound. That is the second foul and Scott the fourteen fouls or both teams are at the limit. There. Does the advantage seven twenty to go came to be in the bonus. The rest of the way inbound to Colli letter jiggling right hand left hand free throw line, jump stop. And Elaine passes out to console gets off a three from away at heads China game at Eighty-four does Marcus hall. Seven minutes to go in game. Four Billy with a two one series lead on the rafters seven minutes for the biggest win for each of these teams this year Jimmy Butler on the Wells Fargo center logo at the right hash to the three point line to the tip of the circle. Upside NS gets back Butler against the Baka three to shoot Butler. Step back date three. No good to log NS kept it out to stop fourteen Robin critical. That was the huge quiet and darted over his turn the ball over. Jimmy Butler was coming over for a hand off to try to throw a bounce pass and Jimmy Butler, and his sheds JJ Rettig started become an incendiary as he's already up to the scores table that was the eleven turnover doesn't come in here. Eleven took turns each way six and a half minutes to go in a eighty four eighty four games. It's so difficult for the Sixers when they don't have 'em be to go to down inside a less than one hundred percent. Joel Embiid hearing game for his letter drives hangs file gets a shot. Shot off no gets himself to the free throw line for the chance to untie this Dame at six twenty to go in the fourth. Mike Scott picks up his third while the Sixers all guard and forward lineup on the floor. All be a big lineup, but got Ben Simmons. Mike, Scott Tobias Harris, James Edison, Jimmy Butler. No bigs and Toronto's got walked to Saul it Sergio pocket two big on the floor. As to why? Leonard hits the free throw. He's six of seven at the line thirty two points. Four letter. JJ Riddick comes in for James Ennis for Leonard. He has had at least thirty three points in the first three games of the series shooting for thirty third here. But it pops in and out. No, good rafters lead by one. Second free throw Mr. Colli, Mr. technical also Joel Embiid has short off the bench. Just wait a t-shirt underneath his jersey back on eighty five. Eighty four Toronto. Here's a three pointer up, Scott. No good tap Simmons controlled by lower. The raptors browsing six minutes to go and game four. NB? Megan a slow walk through the stories cable Lowery dribbles between the circles met by Tobias Harris left side. Leonard has got thirty two shoots three missed it. Scott the rebound for Philly. Maybe a little bit of Teague and landed here in the fourth quarter, thirty seven minutes and counting as six get it into the front court and Brett Butler taller. Brett Brown Paul's for time out with five forty to go here in the fourth. We will step away from Philadelphia with the raptors try to even this best of seven series of to their leaders one eighty five eighty four on the Sixers five forty to play. "Let's go. Throwing spoiler alert before. Now. Spoilers spoil anything all he said was her name. Say what I know. I mentioned in a way spoiling the night king. We go hiking that we're even now it's all it's all good spoilers all across the board. But we're good today. Though. Right. We're going to talk about you said this again as long as you put spoiler alert before spoiler alert alert. Okay. Spoiler. Spoiler. Boiler alert. There you go did something cool. There you go. All right. Muster. I not into diving into these things like you guys are were you guys at set that the Nike never spoke. No, the Nike spoke. I would have been irate. That's. The same way. Character is not about dialogue that the death. Didn't come from him having some sort of well rounded personality like us. Slaves as of psychopathic tried to get the dead. Going isn't a well rounded personality jock by saying the smirk from the night king in the midst of battlement more to me than I didn't want to hear him talk. I want to have to put a voice to him. There was a polka movie one time where all the sudden after years of never doing so peak. It's you spoke English to ask and people for lipped, and it would have been that level. We're having a great discussion. I'm listen, you guys want to go. King and from the night king and game with a better com. I'll wait hold on this this Cup there. Better better better better comp. He could chew my God. What's wrong? All right. So we'll get into a lot of things today, including we've started a new tradition here on golick. And we started last year where everybody celebrates Mr. relevant the last player. Right, right. We got Mr. almost a relevant last year the second to last we're going to have again today. Jordan Belfort the Washington's seventh round pick who was the second to last. Right. And he doesn't get a party parade. So he's we're gonna give them a golden WinCo exactly come on an interview with us better than any. Yes. Hell, yes. That's exactly right like, and we'll get into a perhaps the most important thing. Just how petty is the deep dive for the Houston Rockets at this point. How far in the pool are they willing to swim in those waters because what we found out yesterday? We'll get to that after sports Jimmy Butler. Yes, Jim Jimmy Butler, scored thirty points and added eleven and five assists lead the seventy Sixers to ninety four eighty nine game to win thus making clip very happy over the rafters. Philadelphia. Pigments, I one in Toronto since November of twenty twelve dive more into this one. But this is a game where we're Jimmy Butler did kind of pull them from the fires, you know, a game where the in the first game was for twelve shooting and had just ten points had himself a big game here. Joel embiid. He was was sick coming into the game as an effective game. One for him for all. We know. I have no idea but wasn't feeling good in this one. So, you know, he didn't he? What he's still played thirty two minutes in this game scored twelve points. And the bummer is when you're relying on another one, you know, you want to spell them a little bit more that was Greg Monroe Greg Monroe and play eleven end of the third quarter. He leaves with an ankle injury. Does it doesn't come back? He's got a wrinkle in doesn't come back. So can't help it. Also Embiid does hit a big shot when Toronto. Best shot at the night was with twenty four seconds ago to put them back up three health seal that win exactly they got big minutes from James Ennis to time this postseason that the Sixers outscored their opponents when any of their starters Rothko, right? So this is not usually therefore take that level of depth. So it works for one game. You don't wanna make a habit of that the series because that's not the way you've gotten down and beat still found a way to be affected though. They were five of seven from three off of his passes, a great distributor as we know. 'cause he still demand so much attention when he's down the block. So we're stressing Jimmy Butler did well because this was Sixers coach Brett Brown after the game. This was James Butler. Like that was the adult in the gym. I get as excited as as the volume of threes that he sought as much as anything, and he was just a tremendous just a tremendous sort of. Raw willed us to a lot of different situations. He was a great teammate on the bench. You know, like even Jonas three point shots, and he made in the corner on the way out to the court coming out of a time out he told him, so, you know, young feller if you're open you have to shoot it and. Ironically, he was opened forty seconds later, and he didn't he made it so kind of all over the place. He was he was a stud. He really was an adult in the gym. So going out of his way to say, hey, this wasn't Jimmy Butler. This was James Butler, the fully formed version of. Hi, Jamie, big Jay capital, J J last. So, of course, reporters than picked up on that when they talk to Butler and funny coach came in here. And he said this wasn't Jimmy. It was James Butler because how mature name is James literally Jimmy. So there goes that just one Jimmy would have none of that. No. That's gonna be sore subject. That's happened. A lot Jimmy James on the birth certificates. I dunno Jimmy. I'm Jim power move, by the way. Speaking of three shot like trash Philly shot what little over twenty eight percent and Toronto shot twenty seven percent, but Butler did shoot forty percent from Tracy was four tenths. So he had himself a night and Philly does as we said gets out of the Toronto with the splint Jimmy Butler did sound like he was one of the players miked up for them last night for the broadcast, which we're in a wire, you never know. What's you know, what he's aware of as he's doing that? And not we'll get into another story where the wire a little bit later basketball a little bit of a different wire going on in the world of college basketball by Jimmy Butler. You could hear some of that last night's out every bit like this teammate and elder statesman in the building for this. Even if his name is Jimmy not.

"But they are not especially deep Dangelo. Russell is really the focus of that offense. If you see the Sixers go down again in game two, do you think it's more about focus and effort than it is about game planning? Or are you seeing Brooklyn do something to take advantage of the Sixers weaknesses, Sarah? I think it's a combination of two things number one. I think the nets are bad matchup for the Sixers. They have levels of speed in the back court that give the Sixers problems, I think this was always going to be relatively tough series with a sex years. I think the other issue is is less about effort than it is cut nudie. You look at the other teams around the other elite teams around the NBA, generally speaking, they have continuity in personnel in the Sixers are the furthest thing from that right now with these two big trades. They've made in the during the season to get you me Butler and Tobias Harris and not only that not only do you have the issue of continuity. I would argue that the Sixers aren't as deep as the nets. I mean Sixers have one of the worst benches in the NBA right now, they sacrificed guys like where? Covington and Dario Saric to get a better starting five. You get a better more talented starting five well when you're counting on James Ennis coming back from injury and playing twelve minutes to help your bench. I know everybody's shortens their rotations in the playoffs. But that's an issue. Where is your spark coming from it? If it's not coming from the five starters, you have it ain't coming and all so I think it's a combination of all those things bad matchup lack of continuity and just a lack of death row out. How is this going to play not only Jimmy Butler and Tobias Harris future? But more importantly bread Brown's. Yeah. Actually, we've got some sound for you to listen to Mike. This is Stephen Smith from his show today. The seventy Sixers lose this series to the Brooklyn nets Phearun unfair Brown's gonna lose his job because you're going to look at the predictability you're going to look at the lack of a judgement. You're not gonna wanna hear excuses about Joe Olympia. Not it'd be hundred percent you're not gonna wanna hear them telling you right now I worked in Philadelphia for seventeen years Philadelphia Inquirer..

"I I do worry about the creativity in some of the offense of stuff, right? Like, he's definitely hampered these team makes almost no sense on paper other than this idea. You're just gonna put the most talented group of players who possibly can gather and let them figure it out which has worked in NBA history. But it's hard and you do worry the end of games. And I think that's you know, maybe thirty percent Brent seventy percent. The players has having mental meltdowns at the end of games. But the end of game situations are disastrous in a lot of times they win anyway. Because Jimmy makes a crazy shot or the other team. Mm-hmm. Just makes the bunch of mistakes. But it's never pretty. It's never solid execution at the end of the game. And that has to be somewhat on bread. But you hear hear all the time. The ringer is a other than yourself. Maybe Chris sort of is a anti Brown superpac. But but people say that all the time. But I do ask like who is the coach they're going to get who is going to be better than Brett. Right. It's like, yes. If Popovich wanted to come we take them Spoelstra wanted to come that would be interested, but the NBA is a wash in a flood of mediocre coaches. And I think bread is on the in the upper tier of coaches, he's just not the best coach in the history of the NBA. But I don't know who you're trading of four right? This is an excellent point like how many more winds are you getting with the different coach than you are getting with Brett Brown, and I will stipulate that I am very protective of Brent. I like him as a human being. He's just a good, dude. Great. Yes. Yeah. And I've been around him a lot and like I will want thousand. Percents say that I am not an objective observer on this. However, all the points that you just made are correct to me. And also the roster construction of which I will say that he must have had a hand, of course. Because you know, he's tight without an he's the reason why out and got that gig. Yes. And the ringer got rid of Sixers manager. So. Yeah. I tried to I'm working on a piece for later in this later in the week that I I don't wanna tip too much on. But I have tried recently to track down Bryan Colangelo, and he's gone to ground. I imagine. Yeah. So this team though, after the first five guys worries the hell out of me because they bring in Greg Monroe, and I guess anytime you can get a fourth center that you can't play in the playoffs. You gotta do it. But I I'm not sure exactly what Greg Monroe brings that. Amir Johnson doesn't after say, Mike, Scott and James Ennis as as you mentioned who will have to play significant minutes got Joanna Bolden. You've got Bobi TJ has settled into his TJ role. You know, he had some rough patches there. But I think you we know we're going to get out of TJ. There's not a lot that I think you can ring out of say shake Milton or like how many minutes would you feel comfortable giving desire Smith who just returned to the team hasn't played most of the season..

"Jimmy's had a lot of injuries is just there's been very few minutes of sort of the top seven to nine guys who would theoretically make up a playoff rotation playing together. And so it's just a bit of a mess. Now who knew that James Ennis was the keystone to the whole line of. Because once he went out all the sudden, it's like shake Milton is playing Zaire Smith, which is great. But neither of them are going to get any time in the playoffs. And so felt like they've been bailing it in down the stretch. Wednesday, sorta lock themselves in to the three seed if you wanna talk about worries you right, then going the keys are Mike Scott and James NS, like now all of a sudden, I'm very concerned. Because if that's the case things have gone terribly arrived before we get into the bench because I do want to get into the bench, and I like. I five but after that, I would disagree with you in that like the bench worries the hell out of me. Like, I just I look at that bench. And I think they're just so thin. And I don't know where they're gonna get minutes and steal minutes in the playoffs with some of these guys, but you make a really good point about Brown like you. I'm sure know better than most people as a Sixers fan that the coach in Philly always gets heat when they lose and get zero credit when they win and Brett is no exception. In fact, he might even be the rule whenever they lose. He takes all the heat. And I always look at it. And what did you expect him to do with this group that one as you mentioned has been a rotating cast of characters after their main guys and to like, none of these guys have really been in addition to not having like actual Unical Hejin? None of these extra superfluous pieces have been quality players. I mean like, you can't ring something out of nothing. Right. I think that there are like if you were to talk about Brett like what's good, and what's bad about bread? Is. He is a great coach in the most traditional sense of what a is. What was he builds a? Culture, he managed the personalities, and we shouldn't diminish what he has done to just sort of keep together this team like there's only one other coach who's playing for max level players on his team at one time and that Steve Kerr, and so the fact that Brett Brown is allow them to be successful with this situation. The transition speaks to sort of like his foundational abilities as a coach you do worry..

"For four today. The Philadelphia solve their problems on the offensive end, Tom at least so far here in the third quarter. I think they're the rhythm is a lot better to get good shots. As Ben Simmons misses the second one, but the other end of the floor. They're not getting enough stops. "Put together job everyone. Donlevatar show with stugatz on ESPN radio. Yeah. He may or may not have been murdered. And we don't know where your body is. At lebatardshow. It seems like we had a lot of good polls today what we didn't have was a whole lot of trade deadline activities. So far there were some murmured. But that's about it. Time James Ennis moved. But we didn't know what team he was on before. Or what team that he's going to? And it doesn't really matter. So go ahead and update the polls at lebatardshow pleased to God's we got a lot of votes on a lot of different people are really angry and fighting over just about anything we discussed today. Can this little vignette ESPN has made about whoa, JR. Be both cool and lane. Eighty one percent of the audience said, yes, it is funny. It's just always funny that in the way to show reporters being reporters, all you can do is have them picking up coffee, mugs or phone. Can you trust people that choose Pepsi over coke? This is the most I think it's the most in show votes. We've ever had an Opole. I people are going crazy about many. We have nearly fourteen thousand votes we had more yesterday on something. You were a prisoner of the moment every time. Anyway, sixty nine percent of the audience said, no nice. In show. We had more. Is one of the Staples of deadline day, gaps being bridged. A big one. Eighty one percent of the audience said, yes, of course. Surprised that one didn't get more votes than we've ever had. Unfortunately, no, gaps are being bridge right now. Can you get past the gap without a bridge? Fifty six percent of the audience said, yes. Now that. Is that the best part of the Super Bowl? What were we talking? I think it was Super Bowl squares francesa. Wears. That's right getting and I think Billy added to that knowing the first quarter score and getting a ribbon. I believe the ribbons the best price. Forget the money. Sixty four percent of the audience said, yes. You like ridges with your potato chips. Seventy percent of the audience said yes, oh, that's a bit of an upset. Guys, guys, we're arguing for no ridges is the the big question of the day. What is more deserving of being a first ballot hall of Famer red Doritos or blue Doritos? Sixty six percent of the audience said read Doritos number one is going on here. Doritos are the Doritos. They were supposed to be. That's it. Right. And the blue Doritos mean that the original blue Doritos or Doritos on steroids. And that's why no one's getting them into the hall of fame upsetting the red red Doritos are the compilers Harold Baines. Hourigan originally it's been around forever. But the blue Doritos or Barry Bonds, I mean so much better. He's not in the hall of fame should be though. I mean, that's why they're keeping them out. Because you know, he's a better version of Babe Ruth. And I'm saying the blue Doritos are a better version of the regio about that. Homerun king blue Doritos. I don't know. How you do this every day? I really talk. I'm sitting here wondering, I just I don't know how you do it. I don't. As far as MAC is go is Madison Square Garden the worst of them. Eighty three percent of the audience said, yes. Do you get disoriented by? That's Billy, of course. Now to be fair to to be fair to disorientation Billy gets disoriented by everything seventy seven percent of the audience said, yes. Do you love a method to a madness? We doesn't eighty one percent of the audience said, yes, if you call the coyotes, the yogurts, are you an irredeemable jackass eighty four percent of the audience said, yes. Did Chandler Parsons retire? We could have looked at up on the internet. But instead we asked you sixty percent of the audience said, yes, who is more sensitive the media or Kevin Durant. Now, that's a big one here. Seventy nine percent of the audience said, Kevin Durant. Healy hate the media. What are you doing? Did. You know, it was a legal in America for males to show their nipples before nineteen thirty seven ninety two percent of the audience said, no murmurs or whispers, which is louder seventy nine percent of the audience have murmurs. "Tonight nine thirty eastern on NBC S N skills event, then tomorrow at eight faceoff for some three on three action on NBC. Here's quarterbacks drafted by the patriots. And Tom Brady became the starter. Jacoby Bruce said Jimmy G Ryan Mallett Zac Robinson. Kevin O'Connell, Matt. Castle cliff Kingsbury enroll Han Davey. It feels like it's one every other year. Is that right? Paulie? It's it's about that every other year, they do it and Jacoby recept by the way was a third round draft pick Garoppolo with a second round draft pick. So that's pretty high was Malehda third round pick. Yes. Yep. That's right. Third or fourth. Yeah. I I think this year they're going after a quarterback high. I have no Intel on that. Because it's the patriots. But I think that if you're looking Tom Brady is not playing he's forty five in my opinion. And I think there is still a good chance that he if he wins that he retires. I do but I don't think that would be the case for all righty. We'll come up with a poll question here, and you can weigh in. We got a couple of meat Friday songs that will play. We gotta play of the day in a couple of statue of the day as well. That'll be coming up wanna bring in Chris Mannix, the senior basketball writer for Sports Illustrated. His most recent column, why do the grizzlies wait so long to test the market on Mike Conley and Marcus saw let me start there. Chris what are what are the it? Feels like they're late in the game here. If you want a tank in your Memphis like, what are you doing now? Yeah. I mean, it's it's a little bit on the late side. And I look I look at it this way the grizzlies they operate a little differently because you know, one of the things I heard coming out of Memphis, you know, for the last few years that if you trade a Marcus, Saul and to a lesser degree of Mike Conley is the future of the franchise at risk. I mean, they don't they don't draw great crowds. Anyway during the regular season. All of a sudden, you trade them ranch is icon, you know, who shows up, and, you know, this has always been a team that I know there's some there's some wiggle room. When you get into the next decade about the the lease that they have the FedEx forum. This has always been a team that's been kind of a risk of moving down the line. Their owner is a Silicon Valley guy. He he's based out in California. So I think there's there's been a belief that we got hang onto these guys and try to be as relevant as possible because they know that if they traded them things would change. Now, some things have changed. A little bit in the last few months. I mean, Jaren Jackson junior can play like that is the building block for the future. But it does feel like they're they're they're late to this party and in trading these guys, but if you're going to have a relocation project, more likely Seattle or Las Vegas or elsewhere? I am just guessing at this point. But I think Seattle is at the forefront. They seem to be they seem to be better equipped right now in terms of building an arena, they've got a fan base. I think they're the most likely team to get the next one the next one LeBron when he got injured he was listed day to day. It's it's not now week-to-week now, we're approaching what a month here. I was wondering bigger picture here. Because let's say I'm Anthony Davis. Let's say I'm a free agent here. And I'm looking at wanting to play for the Lakers. Do I start to factor in like LeBron has been an iron man here? And now all of a sudden is is would you take something a little bit deeper with LeBron being injured this long where maybe he's starting to act his age. And if I'm a younger player, you know is this a concern if I look at the Lakers or my reading too much into this. Yeah. I don't know if it's overwhelmingly concerning. It's it's the first significant injury. He's had in a while. I mean, he's been such an iron man for most of his career and in. In in a weird way. I think taking this time off my benefit him as they go into the stretch run and try to make the playoffs. It'll be a much fresher player at at that point. I mean, there's gonna be a lot of of variables for free agents to consider as they head into this off season. And I I don't know that LeBron look you have to look LeBron shelf life, and you have to say a fight team up with LeBron James, I probably have a two to three year window of winning a championship that might be different. If you go to a team like Boston or or Toronto, even I don't I think that might be a wider window for that. But I don't think this current injury is too big a factor for free agents. But also looking at this season will the Lakers front office, be content not happy content. If they don't make the playoffs or they do make the playoffs in their one and done. I mean, their mindset is if they make the playoffs they're better than one and done. I mean, I think it'd be disappointing. If they got into the postseason with a healthy, LeBron James and they can't win a first round series. Now that calculus may change if they wind up sneaking in as the eighth seed and facing Golden State in the first round, but you're not gonna convince me that the Lakers front. It doesn't believe with LeBron that they can't knock off a Denver or even a Houston in a in a first round series. So I think they want to get into the playoffs mostly because they believe they can make some noise if they make some noise, it makes them even more appealing to some of those agents this summer, I know you're in Houston Rockets playing tonight, but I started to wonder I'm watching the game the other night against the Knicks, and I kept thinking, okay. Carmelo Anthony is now out there for anybody. There's talk that maybe the Lakers bring him in. If Carmelo can't help the rockets now with all of their injuries, and they do need somebody who it can take a shot from. Three point range. Like, why can't why can't mellow white? Couldn't he played for the rockets. But now all of a sudden you can play for somebody else. I don't buy it either. I mean, I think it's just kind of the wild speculation. That's out there. I mean, I it. I saw it on social media when Victor Oladipo goes down while Carmelo Indiana billion for all the depot, I mean, that's not. It's just apples and orange there. I mean, come. Anthony is just he's not a fit for today's game with what he can do with this stage of his career as a role player coaches value versatility. It's why at the end in Oklahoma City thunder were turning to Jeremy gret instead of Carmelo Anthony. It's why during the first ten eleven games of his career in Houston. Mike dad, Tony realized that James Ennis was more valuable to him. They Carmelo Anthony. If you are not, you know, Carmelo at his peak, you know, he could give you twenty five thirty points per game. It was fine dealing with his other weaknesses. But at this stage of his career, if he's not able to be efficient, if he's not giving you twenty plus you have to look at the other things, and Kenny defend well, not really can defend multiple positions. Same answer is great rebound, not so much. So if you're looking at role players, Carmelo Anthony just doesn't fit the Bill. That's why the Lakers have been. They've been pretty clear they're not gonna cut somebody to bring in Carmelo Anthony. I think that's their way of saying. We don't really want him talking to Chris Mannix, Sports Illustrated, senior writer, joining us, Dan Patrick show. Who's the best player in the NBA right now? You know, based on what I my MVP ballot right now, I'd say Jaanus, it's razor thin at the moment. I spent a lot of time with Kawhi over the last month. He's having an unbelievable season, Paul, George. I don't think it's getting enough attention for what he's doing in Oklahoma City. But Jaanus right now, I mean think about this debt who is the next best player on Milwaukee. Brogden Chris Middleton. Probably kristen. But you have to think about it. Right. I mean, this is a team atop the east where this probably the biggest gap between the best player and the second best player amongst any top tier team in the league. I mean Kawai in Kyle Lowry. There's a gap but not as big Paul, George has got Russell Westbrook harden at a separate conversation. He's having a bonkers type of season. But Golden State's got their guys. There's a pretty big gap between Jaanus and everybody else on that team. And they're still sitting right up there at the top of the Eastern Conference standings that to me is a big factor and making the MVP James harden. I I'm watching him Heather Knight. And it's really impressive. But you can't win this way. And I said yesterday that it feels like he's doing this just for survival of his team like he has to do this. I don't know if he wants to do this. What do you what do you think? When you're watching this run by harden what stands out good and bad. It reminds me good and bad of what we saw Russell Westbrook in two thousand seventeen you know, we had that MVP or any average a triple double for the first time in his career. He was just doing everything and the usage rate if you look at those numbers, Dan, they're razor thin. I think Westbrook is has a one point higher than James harden. Russell Westbrook during that year had the highest usage rate in NBA history. James harden is right behind him right now. And look Russell Westbrook was great. But his team, you know, snuck into the playoffs as a back end of the of the top of the top eight seeds, and they got beat in the first round if it is just James. Hard and doing this. And Chris Paul might come back to play tonight. And he will be back. So won't Clint Capello. But if it's just James harden, you can't win anything with it. Now. What's impressed me about harden is not just that? He's putting up thirty six thirty seven points per game. But he's also giving you like, eight assists. I think that's an underrated statistic. He's third in the NBA and assist. When everybody is is king on him. And he doesn't have a lot of great offensive players around him. So it's a it's a remarkable season. But it does have a lot of similarities, so the one Westbrook put up we brought this up when LeBron went to the Lakers. I wondered if the NBA would try to get their game started sooner earlier, so you got an east coast and midwest audience the NBA ratings are down here. I don't hear a lot of talk as to why. I don't know as fans we go all the best team like Golden State starting later the Lakers with LeBron starting later. I don't know if that has much how big of an impact that has. Why do you think the ratings are down? I think it has an impact I think the fact that LeBron leaving the east in those seven o'clock seven thirty starts not being as appealing. I think Kawhi being in Toronto. I mean, the raptors are a great team. But that doesn't do a lot for national US TV ratings. Boston struggling, I think is is a factor and all that EPA Celtics were off to one of those, you know, Golden State from a couple of years ago type of starts you could have really built the narrative that super team in the east super team in the west watch these guys in the regular season. I don't think there's one thing though. I do agree that the west coast start times and the stars caught a clustering the west is a factor. I think it's multiple things. No that have contributed safe travels. Chris good to talk to you have fun in Houston. All right, Dan. That's Chris Mannix, the Sports Illustrated senior writer, and we said at the time. I don't know if you could do it because of the traffic in Los Angeles to started earlier, but if you're the Commissioner, I gotta have people able to see the stars. Now, even the warriors. We see the highlights, and it feels like the highlights are even more important because the people on the east coast midwest are you staying up for those games or you just going to get the cliff notes version of the Golden State Warriors Lakers with LeBron. But I I do think that's an issue but ratings are down down in a big way beyond mclovin. I had a poll option are the warriors more or less exciting with boogie cousins. All right. Let's take a break. We'll talk about that got meet Friday song trigger meet Friday. Also or play the day. We'll be back, right? After this on the Dan Patrick show..

"Free throws. And eighteen points for James Ennis, ten of those coming in a big third quarter, eighteen points, three boards for a great game for him PJ, Tucker. You look at the box score. He's a plus twelve he had nine points. But none of this. None of this describes how hard and how well PJ Tucker played tonight on the defensive end five steals that tells you a lot and a blocked shot. But he led the team with nine rebounds PJ Tucker getting the blue collar awards night. He was sensational. He got the start at center tonight with Clint cappella out in the rockets started with a small lineup. So Gerald green was seventeen off the bench on six of fourteen shooting. He had four of eleven threes. As a team. The rockets were forty two of one hundred for forty two percent from the field on threes. They had a great second half. They ended up twenty five of sixty eight for thirty six point eight percent on threes. But in the first half they were just eight for thirty three on their threes. With the sixty eight being their total. They just missed tying their own league record that they just set the other night, but they were also twenty nine thirty six from the free throw line. And there were some tenuous moments there in the overtime because it looked as if they were going to give the Lakers a chance to get back in this thing by missing free throws. Harden, and Gordon boasts both took turns missing their share of free throws in the end there. But they ended up making enough of them out the four point win for the Lakers. They were led by Cao coups must thirty to his second consecutive thirty two point game. Brandon Ingram with twenty one. And if he kazoo botch with seventeen off the bench, including. Going nine for nine from the free throw line for them. Zoo was great. He was their best big man in this game for sure. As we talked about in the pre game show. The Lakers are really good in the paint. Will they had sixty eight paint points. The rockets.

"Finish for the rockets to be sure coming back from an eighteen point halftime deficit and just out playing out hustling the Lakers to win the third quarter thirty six twenty two. They win the fourth quarter thirty eight thirty four when the overtime period. Eighteen fourteen. And at some point during the third quarter. The Lakers lost. Lonzo ball to an ankle injury. And as a result of a collision with James Ennis, James Ennis scored at the other end. And there was a time out during the time out Luke Walton went ballistic on the officials over wall getting hurt. And there was no call and he got teed up twice. There's no telling what he said. But it was not pleasant and ejected. So in a matter of seconds. They lost Lonzo ball and their head coach Brian Shaw took over as the coach of the Lakers and he made some bad decisions down the stretch. That's all there is to it. At one point Brandon Ingram was red hot for them. Finished with twenty one points. Scored eleven of those early in the overtime as the rockets had no answer for him. And then suddenly they went away from him. And he didn't see the ball in their final four or five possessions hard to understand. So as we take a look at the final box. Because start with James harden who had a just forty eight points at this point sort of come to expect it, but his last three games James's scored fifty seven fifty eight and forty eight tonight on fourteen of thirty shooting eight of nineteen on threes. He twelve of fifteen free throws. He also had eight rebounds, which was the second highest total on the team behind PJ Tucker's nine. He had six assists, four steals and a block shot. He was a plus eleven for the game. Sure seems like you should have been a plus forty one the way he played. It was incredible. Erik Gordon went well over his minutes restriction of twenty four twenty five minutes. He played thirty two minutes and good thing. He did he scores thirty on seven of sixteen shooting hit five of ten threes. Hit eleven of twelve.

"Welcome in everybody to the memorial Hermann postgame show. I'm just now catching my breath after the rockets go into overtime for the second straight game. Only this time. They made enough shots and made enough plays and got enough stops forcing turnovers in the fourth quarter and overtime to win over the Lakers. One thirty eight one thirty four their third win over the Lakers so far this season. And it was a dandy because they had fallen behind after listless first half they trailed by eighteen sixty four forty six. At the intermission. So when the second half got started the rockets had to do two things they had to get stops. And they had to knock down open shots when they got them something that they weren't doing in the first half as far as knocking down. The shots were concerned. James NS picked up the ball and ran with it. Drawing devil team is he went to the right hand side of the floor freeing-up James Ennis wide open top of the key for an open three which he's stuck. That made it sixty four forty nine good way to start the third quarter. And then Eric, Gordon who was terrific all night long tonight. He stuck a three pack two rivers on top to Erik Gordon. Four three good. Eric sports with his second three of the game. So that capped off a six to one run by the rockets to start the third. It was sixty nine fifty two when James Ennis went to work again. Three steps. And for a long to MRs and Lonzo ball is Hertz. Twisted an ankle, and he is writhing in pain rockets planned five on four NS with the dunk and the open floor. The Lakers are going to need a call a timeout as ball is down and hurt. Yeah. Lonzo ball. Suffering. A twisted ankle on that play was taken to the hospital for x-rays. Did not return.

"The opposite of one eighty different. That's what happened to them on Wednesday. When the Brooklyn nets rebel to snatch victory away from the jaws of defeat. Thanks, large parts of the heroic suspension Dinwiddie and others but big game for James Horan with forty eight. Erik Gordon had thirty and you talked about the intensity was significantly better in the second half. But also to was shot making the rockets went eight of thirty three from three, and we all we know how important three point shooting is especially now without Kalinka cappella trying to do that they went. Eight thirty three from three in the first half. They went seventeen of thirty five forty five. Basically they shot fifty percent from three now after halftime. Yeah. You hit that kind of percentage from downtown. You're gonna give yourself a chance and board of the rockets ever and also hat tip. The James Ennis, James Ennis. He was the catalyst rate for the corner. Overrun for the rockets that initially got a back of the ball gaming and as close as two points in the third. Yeah. Ten points in that third quarter. But he also played some outstanding defence he got a couple of big rebounds for them. Just a terrific third quarter for James harden also had ten in that third quarter. When they started to come back, but just take a second to think about the flip side of this after you lost that heartbreaker to the nets. If you lose this game in overtime. "Welcome into memorial Hermann post game show. Everybody rockets fall tonight in Portland one ten one on one the six game winning streak is snapped rockets now twenty two and sixteen on the season Portland at twenty three and seventeen after getting the win tonight. Really the strength of the Portland lead in this game for the entirety of the second half was built on what they did at the end of the second quarter when they went on a twenty two three run to take thirteen point lead in that game. Austin rivers carried the rockets in the first half, he had seventeen at the break and the rockets. Would fight their way back into it as they are known to do with James harden getting going early in the third quarter art across the timelines straightaway. Right left back left. Then right, then back to the left hand will drop it in a little teardrop rd. That teardrop of the two point variety. Followed by the three point variety here. Harn left with the free throw line austat back. Three is up in the first three ball of the game for the beard. That cut the lead to eight and things start to get a little bit more interesting. And then it was click cappella splitting a couple of defenders for a basket. Just like that at thirteen point lead again for Portland. Here's capacity kids to blazer defenders. And he throws it down. Emphatic dunk fair cut the Portland lead to eleven and then Gerald green who had a nice second half got into the act white handrail in the paint turns lanes fadeaway ten footer front rim side glass through. Nice move and shot there for green almost as nice as the three that he hit next. We'll keep it at seventy to fifty eight with six twenty two remaining in the third. Green open straightaway. Three is on the way in. After a Damian Lillard three put them back up by sixteen harden would cut that back about three twelve. Yeah. Straightaway from twenty-five seventy seven sixty four and they kept chipping away is hard and found James Ennis for a bucket come away with his aren't looking for an incident, he'll drop it in for a nice mid court feed. Portland's half court game didn't work. The rockets did. So they were looking to get back within single digits as the third quarter came to a close. And James harden, made it happen aren't right side angle going into layman's. Get spy Lehman throws it up drops it in. Missile. So the rockets would win the third thirty one twenty seven James harden with twenty in that third quarter, and it was eighty six seventy seven trailblazers as we went to the fourth James harden on the bench to start the fourth quarter, which meant that Austin rivers went to work once again behind him to rivers three point line left right hand dribble. Drive for Austin throws it off back around in. Austin rivers now has nineteen and then Clint cappella not known as an assist guy. But a nice nice bounce pass on this play. The Gerald green gives it a cappella bouts passed a green hand Throwdown. And it's a five point game. Yep. But that five point differential was as close as the rockets would get after that Portland took another double digit lead before. Austin rivers would bring the rockets back yet again six and a half remaining in the game the sets a screen rivers floats in the lame the left hand got two more. Austin rivers has been such a valuable addition eight hundred fifty for the four he's got twenty one that'll be a rocket high. And that's what he finished with twenty one. He played.
