'Blue's Clues' Joshua Dela Cruz on Taking Over as Host
"Clues the kid show on on nickelodeon about a blue spot. A dog who lease pawprints as clues for her friends. The original host Steve Burns were a striped green rugby shirt. Charismatic Young Man with a lot of side I who can forget him. Blue's clues ended. Its original run in two thousand six but making his debut. Today in the reboot. Blue's clues and you is Josh delacruz. So you're the new host Josh. Congratulations how you feeling about the premier. Thank you so much. It's exciting we've been working on the show for for about a year now and and it's exciting to finally have it come out and have people watch it and get to know blue. So you're the first Asian American on the show your Filipino American when you were renounces host last year Josh many asian-americans took to social media instead yet. Big Thumbs up. How did you feel about that support? I'm so honored I never. I thought about being in this position. I never thought about working in children's television and I never thought that I would really be anyone that anybody looked up to. In in any sense of the word you know I I just try to do my best on the day to day but getting this opportunity to represent a demographic that doesn't usually usually get a lot of screen time in a nonthreatening foreigner way means a lot to me my favorite thing that I've heard so far is from from friends and their kids or their coworkers. Kids is that he looks like me. And that's something that I never really experienced growing up especially in a children's show and I. I think that maybe shut off some doors to me in my mind because I never saw myself represented And so I never thought like Oh. I'd love to work on the show one day. It was so how important to my childhood. I would love to return that favor so I gotta say you watch blue's clues as a kid. I watched it as a parent and many parents having spoken with a lot of parents about this. They love the show. Because Steve was the draw he was kind of Vedra. Hit great presence and timing. Does it feel like you can be yourself with blue's clues in can you or do you feel somehow driven capture. What Steve Head? I think as far as I would try. I'll never be Steve Burns. Just because I'm I am who away and and that was definitely a worry when I found out that I got the job even when I was auditioning one of the most health things that happened. Is that Steve. Burns pulled me aside during a work session before we ever got set and he said I just want to let you know just wanted to tell you personally that we hired you because we love you and we love what you do and we. We don't ever want you to feel any kind of pressure to try and do anything that I or Donna. Who Played Joe his brother? Anything that we did you can totally be yourself. This is your house now. It was those words that really gave me permission and really the confidence that is so cool. Say That oh my gosh you know. When I first met him house immediately I was terrified but then he opened his mouth and in person yes such a resonant voice and you know it's like James Earl Jones saying Luke Doc? I'm your father but he goes. Hey Man and I was transported to when I was watching the show with my little sister and I felt important Porton. I felt like I was meant to be there. And he is that presence in real life when he's talking to you he just hands over the power and I hope that I can do that. FERN entire new generation of kids. So you're the only human on the show. Does that make an even bigger responsibility for you connecting with US kids. Do you know it's so funny because the home viewer is the main character. They are the entire focus of the show and everything in our script every piece of animation. Shen every color every game every note that I get about my performance comes from a childhood development background and because they WANNA help kids which is why I think they updated the name. Blue's clues a new because it's it's just as interactive as it was when it premiered in ninety six but this the emphasis is really on the home mhm viewer. Because I personally can't move forward without their help without them. Talking me on screen well. Congratulations Again Josh Delacruz. The host of blue's clues is and you premiering today on

Forty Five Minutes And Fifty Six Percent discussed on Joyce Kaufman
"Right what we hear and so far because I've heard make stuff about the lying game yeah it's getting sort of a mixed reaction from the critics at the very least I think I kind of understand where they're coming from you know I I think it really depends on what you're looking for in a lion king remake yeah this is it this is the third of Disney's so called live action remakes of the classic animated films this year the first two being dumbo and Aladdin this one is definitely the most anticipated of the three people just love the lion king and this one have a pretty good great cast in Starz Donald Glover at the voice of Simba you know beyond say the voice of now you've got Billy Eichner and Seth Rogan who play to moan and quibble and they actually steal a lot of scenes they're really funny to Whittle at your for his car and then in sort of a nice little nod to the original you've got James Earl Jones who returns to provide the voice of Musasa and this is directed by John Fabbro he actually had really great success with a similar movie when he did the jungle book remake for Disney just a few years ago so it and made a lot of sense that they'd get him to do this one as well and to his credit the movie looks mind blowing the good everyone who's seen it agrees with them absolutely a technical Marvel how this thing looks from the animals to the natural environment you know for example pride rock that that famous rock with a cold Simba to the rest of the animals that that actually doesn't exist in Africa that's a complete fabrication on the part of the the guy who designed the original movie and and everything looks so real it's it's incredible what they've been able to do you know the whole sort of gimmick of the movie was that I was supposed to be a reinterpretation of the lion king with photo realistic animals and they have really gone sort of above and beyond to accomplish that but I think it does also kind of pose a problem at least for some people because you know the nineteen ninety four movie with a cartoon and that kind of allowed them to superimpose very human expressions on to the animals so they were angry or sad or happy you could really see it in their faces but you know obviously rely and they don't really smile like that or cry like that so their faces kind of end up looking fairly the same whether they're angry at someone or singing accrue the macabre so in that sense the photo realism does in my opinion kind of rob the movie a little bit of its personality but aside from that there also aren't really any changes to the story it's almost a shot for shot remake of the animated version although it does feature a few new songs that we didn't get the original and produced a number of critics that was also kind of a disappointment so with all of that said the movie is currently at fifty six percent on the tomato meter and I think whether or not you enjoy it will depend on one thing do you essentially want a shot for shot remake of the animated we but with super realistic looking animals instead of cartoons or were you hoping that this might be kind of a fresh take on the story and sort of the same way that John Fabbro did a few things a little differently from the original when he made the jungle book if you're okay with that being basically the same movie but pretty here then this is exactly that you will probably love it a lot of fans of already chimed in and said that they had an amazing time at the movie and again it looks fantastic but again if you were hoping for them to do something a little more with the story to sort of justify remaking it or you know even come at it from a fresh angle you're not gonna get that here so you know this is very much a your mileage may vary kind of the situation no it's interesting when you bring that up that way Ryan's for somebody like me yeah you know my kids love the movie right so I probably wouldn't watch it just on my own so I don't even know what my explanation is other than if we decided to go see the movie or if it's in a few months and I'm watching it you know as a rental it's kind of like irate am I entertained by it and I had even thought of what is my expectation you know what I mean which is like is there a rule or not and it from the trailer I'm like wow that looks stunning but I do wonder after about forty five minutes to an hour if you're like well I know how these roles and there's no silent there you know I don't know what it'll be like I'm not
Disney, Nala Donald Glover And James Earl Jones discussed on Bald Movies
"Latest live action cash grab the Lion King directed by Jon Favreau and you know I never would have guessed that the man who breathed life into a multi billion dollar franchise but taking a third tier marvel property like iron man and taking passion for source material I I never thought that he you would brought that same passion to the Lion King and you know what I was right because in my opinion this is like the most of all the pointless Disney remakes this is the most pointless and the one that comes off the shabby shabby as compared to its source material Jim. What did you think and maybe talk about your personal relationship with the Lion King of any so I think the Jon Favreau had quite the passion for the source material because he just recycled it and not in like the way where you I don't know take something you have? It's old fashioned into something new. That's useful in a different way. This was the lion king like this is the most Lion King Lion King movie <hes> outside outside of the Lion King I mean the thing is is is the lion king. Only all of the animals were injected. The Boat Docks Yeah Animation <hes> that's. That's the only thing that was different about this movie in any way right. There's one hint of new song none of the plot points or any different than the lion king you remember from ninety four. It's all the same it's just a it's just a cross aboard worse version yeah and completely like you said unnecessary. I think this is like the thing I liked about. Aladdin is Kinda took it a direction and modernized it updated five the problem. The parts were little creaky and little stale where we've moved on as a society they've kind of you know propped it up and they didn't try to like out Robin Williams Robin Williams on the genie whereas this it's like. I don't understand how the animation tests came back for. These animals father wasn't like okay we gotta ditched his documentary approach and have these lions smile. Give him some fucking eyebrows house allow on the show some gene grief and rage because we know I've seen the lion king many many many many times and there's a couple of scenes where you're you're geared up to anticipate and it's exactly. The same lines exactly the same framing except for Simba's faces a grim frozen mask that is capable of showing anything other than way honestly my house cats more expressive. I that's the thing that really really surprised me and I saw a listen problems with that in like some of the trailers I saw but like I don't know I mean it's this isn't a bad film in fact honestly the first five minutes. I actually started thinking well. Maybe I'm wrong because it gave me the exact same goosebumps that intro of the Classic Lion King Circle Life Yeah <hes> but even then it's like there's a couple of parts or like you know like there's a couple of things that you you know you can do in animation like when you blink and step forward and sun you can have a baby draft. Blankets is in this. I mean if they did that with his baby. Draft who the fuck knows because baby drafts don't blink in the sun it turns out it's almost it felt like one of those Old Walt Disney movies like <hes> <hes> what is the journey home or whatever where the actually take a real poppy in a real cat kitten and or they have like little bound very tightly homered ban yeah they make a movie around around like their natural expressions and stuff <hes> but there's just I don't know I mean I didn't really pay any attention to the casting like I didn't know anybody <hes> and there's <hes> great great cat like you know the Simba Nala Donald Glover beyond say knowles stats a fucking dynamite combination like John Oliver as the Domo's as zoo is pretty inspired casting the return of James Earl Jones James Jones. You can't do better than that. I thought that <hes> Billy Eichner as to Moan was really good eye Eric Andre I know seth th- Rogan is Okay Yeah Eric Andrea one of the hyenas I I mean I said it's just I mean we can talk about it the scene by scene point by point and the trailer earn the spoiler section like do I want to on this one because if you've seen the Lion King you've seen the entirety of this movie. It's just like they changed a damn thing. No they range all all the life yeah. Apparently the animators didn't get to note that the scene. Can you feel the love tonight actually takes place at night not at noon just many many references to it being evening and being nights and then it. Blend smoothly into another night scenes really pivotal and what the fuck what the fuck why are they why are they having animated these lions in broad daylight. I don't know because you can. They're more expressive in the day. I don't ever more expressive in the day. That's the only thing I think of is the other thing is speaking of that. I defy you to tell any of those lionesses apart <hes> yeah lights off in the cartoon version. There are subtle variations in color facial expression oppression. I mean they're all kind of unique individuals. At least you know the Nairobi and Nala and the ones actually have speaking roles this like they literally all look the same and when Simba's fighting scarred there's many time I lost track of WHO Simba who was scar and they found it hilarious that these battles are so bloodless. I don't know how you get a name like scar. If nothing can cut your skin I know 'cause like it'd be like it's cannon that Mu Fossa awesome fucked him up the part of his ear off and really hideously scarred him so but yeah you can't do that when <hes> although to realistic you can't do I was kind of put off by the mature subject matter. They're they're. They're saying the F. A. R._T.. Word heard they are in case. Let that slide through yeah yeah really risk and is this P._G.. I don't know it probably is it wouldn't be stupid like whatever the whatever the original was here. It's the same because it is is the same so so. Maybe I'm a little harness movie but I actually this was the very first Walt Disney animated movie I ever saw because I my mom was a religious nut job the type of religion I mean there's lots of different ways to be a religious just not job as a parent but <hes> her particular nutjob Orie was magic anything magic and I'll add in allow <hes> sleeping beauty no little rain when the fucking sea he which get Outta here those legs are mad. I remember the look my sister and I gave each other when Rafiki started doing medicine Monkey Shit and we're like Oh God and my mom's is started twitching like us a spiritism. Does a spiritism like she's please do not storm out of that we we. We begged her to take her come on the line game. There's no magic there's no warlock in this fucking monkey starts. Doing you know the the magic adjacent shit he starts doing like some kind of weird monkey and melon based divination a nation he starts doing martial arts karate at the end which is the other kind of spiritism adjacent but it was near and dear to my heart because I that's the very first and I remember just like just like being just completely amazed at the opening act. And really moved when Fossa dies and like also we had that movie I was the only Disney animated movie for a long long time that we had on V._H._S. and my brother and sister and I kind of wore it out over the course of a summer so I'd fucking love this the Super N._S.. Lion King Okay. I don't think I ever made it past the third level because it's freakishly hard but there's a lot I have a lot of affection for this source material and Dan I just to me they should have cleaned it up that those prints as shiny as they could make him they should've completely redone to sound and just re released it because this is just you know Lion King's Tinton movie. This is like six attitude execution of that movie. This is a high school musical version of the Broadway version of the Lion King. I could see that yeah. I didn't find it offensive. I found that it was in in maybe everything except for the expressive -ness of the characters was just as effective as the original was but yeah it was entirely unnecessary. This is a fairly obvious cash crap. I didn't didn't feel that way coming out of Aladdin. I know a lot of people didn't feel that way coming out of beauty and the beast and you know the the Dumbo did People Watch Dumbo. Nobody watched dumbo right everywhere. I heard it was pretty fucking shitty. Yeah I didn't see it. I didn't either her because I heard it was pretty shitty and guess what you've got Milan coming down the pike. I don't I've never seen Milan. I mean it's a fine. It's it's it's probably one of the lesser of the new golden age of Disney like it's kind of their into Pocahontas level level where it's like animation still amazing songs that nearly as catchy core concept not as solid and I've heard that they're actually a skewing the songs more or less in Milan and just like a straight like a straight drama weird. I could be wrong on that but I just. I don't know I it. It's it's not it's so cynical. I said cash grab because it's it's not it's not just a blatant redundant cash grab. It's just a pace. These does relentless Klis pace that they're that they're doing them into. I don't understand why we need. Five remakes of Disney live action Disney movies in a single year and I don't even know if it might be more than that like. I don't know if they've got. They're going to sneak something out. Pass them along before Christmas. I don't know I don't know they just cast a little mermaid. I I don't know how far that's that that's behind but who's playing Sebastian. I don't know okay. That's my biggest question about that movie. Maybe Ahmed Best Okay Yeah sure thanks Yeah Sebastian yeah he so Whoopi Whoopi in the under the sea yeah love song so I got some more stuff to say 'cause I got. I actually Kinda WanNa actually KINDA WANNA break it down so you might say because he's keep on saying that it's shot for shot for Lion King and that's my biggest problem is is that I don't think it is. I think they're I mean they try not shot but beat for beat. Story is one hundred percent every bit of the staging is is noticeably inferior and worse than than the than the the original and some of the things that like what they did to be prepared is a God damn criminal travesty. That's one of my favorite songs from the Lion King and I've never seen a more dispirited parroted punting of a musical number then than I have. I don't know Jimmy Nicholson who I considered. The foremost expert on Disney films on the Internet suggested that there's also a muted quality due to vocal performances like everything everyone's kind of like instead of like even James Earl Jones instead of just like because I remember I I can I can hear in my head exactly how he says. Nobody messes is with the year old band or I can. I can hear like they. They just didn't quite nail it and her theory is they had to have all the actor scale back because if they were as a motive as the original lion king it would look wildly out of place with the animation style and it's like the one thing that you could have gone ten for ten and let like Donald Glover and beyond say and James Will Jones uncork and actually you know she would tell Chew Hotel Jia for <hes> who I think is an amazing actor. He got the world's most laid back quiet unassuming scar and it's just a shame because he's trying to follow giant. Jeremy Irons plays one of the the all time Great Disney villain voices and it just. I don't know
Is 'The Lion King' a fascistic story?
"Comes as you watch the herbivores congregate to bow down before their newborn ruler blanking offers us is inductive world view in which absolute power goes in question where the weak and vulnerable are fundamentally inferior in other words linking offers us a fascist ideology writ large there seems to be No Way Out for the forthcoming remake the first thing to understand that the wind king is that it isn't in any way that winds or any other animal species no it it it kind of is and it says so in the title The Lion King and then also there only animals and no humans in at it's amazing how the west will struggle to say that certain things are not metaphors and then they'll immediately say that this is a metaphor for fascism on earth as in everything below a variety of cute and cuddly figure stand in for human societal organizations mapping internalize social hierarchies on he's pristine and neutral world and the animal kingdom renders these power dynamics natural common sense and desirable because of first of all what should be real about the animal kingdom lions eat zebras it when they're called the king of the king of the forest king of the jungle it is a better thing for quite awhile and that is because the line is the apex predator in this particular scenario that's how they sure I using the predator prey relationships to Allan Grice human power it's almost inevitably incorporates the white supremacist world view so now believe it or not the argument is that the lion king is about white supremacy now last I checked move faster his voice in the wind came is James Earl Jones who is black Simba in the room in the remake is played by Donald Glover who is black nala who is his wife is played by by and by Beyonce say who is black Sir Robbie whose mom is with alpha Alfre Woodard who is black James Earl Jones is still move asa and still black

"You. Want your fucking corner. I mean he goes to bat for her. I mean even gets against kids that are twice his size. I guess a child Molesting Chef Jeff. That's very first person. Also the golf real quick. I've been using the word aloof very wrong recently. I've always so I have to backtrack. The aunt is not aloof. No I thought aloof was very like silly and outliving lady or flaky yes so I did not know aloof meant like distant so yes so I am dumb and now I know why some people giving me weird looks when I've talked. I use that word. I guess I'm not using continue. I'm sorry okay so the kids can't go to camp to camp our wack as what we saw in the beginning of close down Camp Rickie went last year in Los Angeles First Time <hes> note a lot of the extras used in the scene where a family and friends of cast and crew <hes> we meet Ricky <hes> we meet Paul I mean Ricky's friends <hes> introduces her to Angela and then we meet Judy Ricky's ex as mentioned. She has odd proportions. She doesn't fun fact about Judy originally supposed to be played by Jane Creek Hausky. I don't know what that is. She was the blonde from thirty rock. Oh China Okay Maloney pretty interesting yeah and then we get introduced to the cooking crew which includes includes a child Molester Chef and James Earl Jones Dad really and he walks in to where the James Earl Jones is dead yeah it doesn't he come in later. It doesn't show in his underwear. Maybe that okay who am I thinking of someone. That's smiling themselves. Just like James Earl Jones this. This movie is full of Easter eggs but he he wouldn't have thought that James James Earl Jones father would be in any movie really he sounds just like him and he laughs off a child molester. Oh you crazy child molester show yeah and and just the the terms that he uses them like I don't know I guess you got to think no will even be good like I'm thinking it wouldn't be good time in place now. So I think one thing that you are talking about. He says where I come from we call them Baldi's lease so where the fuck does he all these ball these. Do you need me to draw you a map on that one dan when he's discussing what the girls specifically <hes> okay yeah so. I didn't realize what he was. No He makes no question about his intentions of why he is a chef and a summer cabin and the other line is they're never too young. You're just too well. That's where Robert Earl James laps and walk so that's that's good always looking the other way yeah. It's a it's a good thing to turn a blind eye to child molestation. I mean Shepherd Churches Gotten Away with that for years. Bas zing zing mailed it again off the off the off the rails real quick so ricky shows Angela it to her bunk and she goes into the <unk> bunk with all the other girls and she sits down. She stares she just stares and all the other girls specifically judy and Judy immediately hates her fucking right and there's no reason whatsoever to me I maybe I shouldn't even say they're so young because it's like is she even really a threat to Judy Judy. It looks like she's much older than her judy. Judy seems like she has experienced. She definitely does one hundred percent. I think with all the older boys when ricky when ricky approached her and she just dismissed Ricky Yeah Yeah yeah as I say she definitely puts out that vibe yeah. She knows her way day said she came in a little more grown up. If you know it's later but doesn't she have a date with a on at something never mind. That's a couple of people yeah. It's she's all all over the place that judy she's encouraged -able. What are we? What are we going to do with her at lunch? The Meg is the girl camp counselor who also also just hates Angela's guts associate she made she makes the male the head Camp Counselor Ronny come over to her to see if there's anything he can do. Ronnie's shorts are Super Vulgar Yeah. He's walking around with his his dick print outs. He's not the only one either is so pronounced. His shorts are way too short. I don't care if it's thirty uh-huh and that's I think I messaged you the group when I'm saying like there's something going on here it is this there are several fashion. Just what the fucks yeah it says the guy with a half half shirt oh that's right and then Ronnie shows ones with Mesh Shirt and then there's a guy would cut up shorts. My God is that baseball softball game is so homoerotic it's ridiculous. The part of this movie really was I I. I didn't know what they were going for. I again I I was born in the late eighties so I don't know if that was really the style then but I mean you had the guy with the crop top and it just like guys with Mesh shirts. It's with just hair sticking out. It's obviously now if you were to dress like that it definitely screams certain lifestyle. We're just you know obviously fine. We're okay with that but with this is I didn't get why everyone address that way again. I don't know if it was the style. I have no idea either. All I know is that guys crop top is barely cropped off. It's like a Bra. It's like a sports bra. loose-fitting sports is Brab that was again very questionable but not as questionable as a scene coming up in a few scenes later. You have to touch on it. I'd imagine I'm going to have to jump in okay. I'm sure we'll get to it. It freaked me out so makes a real bitch but Ronnie Ronnie seem super nice and he's like Oh. Let's go see Angela's not eating so he was like Oh. Let's go see if we could go to the the kitchen and make make something for you that you're going to like because Russia's Bait Nice. He's very nice. Ryan is a big dummy. Surani goes to the kitchen introduced her to the creepy chef Um and then he just lets her he leaves her in the very wandering hands of the creepy chef who immediately takes her to the walk in freezer to raper yeah and not even a second hesitation is in the other in in the other room and it's like well. I guess it's time to rape you. Come on let's go. What do you have much rape? I guess I got this penis for you and he more or less as I think I could find line something for you and they're just unbuckle his belt like Oh. I got something for you here like super unsubtle like it's rape time. He's done this before no science. That's the pants and like six seconds practices yeah. Luckily luckily we don't see anything this movie. I'm surprised we didn't because ricky causing catches them unbolting. You didn't see anything he slams ricky so hard into the shelves actually watched a documentary of the making of the actor was just like yeah. There was no oh stunt coordination. He we practiced we did that seem like fifteen times fifteen times did it as hard as good and again the way he the way he threatened. Ricky makes me think he's had to do that plenty of times times here and seeing a thank you did see anything. He slams into the boxes <hes> he's he's threatened kids before Yep so ricky comes to the rescue and pulls Angelo away so then we get a scene later. The chef is cooking up some Stu yes lean over the giant pot and some unseen killer comes in and pushes him into the STU knocks the pot over and it gets pretty badly scarred. It was a pretty lame death because he doesn't die. No that's right yeah. That's right. It's it's regardless I thought the scene how it played out made no sense because the unseen killer Kinda Kinda just moves the chair out from under him and he he grabs a hold of the shelf above him and really he was in no danger he could have easily just stepped off the chair and I so I don't know what he was thinking sure but yeah he <hes> what the payoff is good. Though the payoff was very good yeah yes he screams in agony as his flesh melting away and he deserved it for sure and it was it was something that you don't really see very often often in horror movies scalding so I was a fan of it he and he definitely deserved it. Yep nope absolutely it was a good scene well done in terms of the practical effects <hes> it's a long seen though they they let that camera linger on them they let those <hes> those affects playoff. It's a good point and he screams the whole time yeah bloody murder and then Robert Robert Earl Jones comes in and just looks on in horror. Just Kinda stands there a-rod. He comes in in his underwear. Maybe he doesn't I hope I wasn't just imagining a man underwear. I think you might have <hes> not a good look. Dan Look so he gets wheeled out by paramedics who show up <hes> he's not dead but as that come back at camp anytime soon that's for sure his lesson <hes> camp owner we meet Cambone Hermel on the scene and he's kind of sleaze. He wants to cover up. The accident doesn't want to tell anybody we learn very much later. How much of a sleazy actually is <hes> but then he kind of like pays off the the other folks go like hey? Why don't you guys take some more money now that that guy's gone and they were it was absolutely no undertones in this scene at all? Oh yeah zero zero under it's a little creepy little little race related. I'll pay these these dark skinned people often can be on my way. I didn't get that for maybe this is something I missed but I didn't get. I think it's either Karner. Somebody else goes basically says it's just the way it's like that. Kirk Cameron Stank on into words and I go what are you going to do about them doesn't when he says like Ju right yeah choose the harder the harder on the word them that was something I missed. I guess very creepy yeah so we cut to the boy's bunk and ricky helps bully kidney Mozart by taking him stick his face right and then other kids but I love the the the camp counselor I've ever come to is going to get you at the mind over matter thing like tell me towed. Tell me Mozart didn't fall for the mind over matter trick that camp counselors name is gene and that is the one with the half shirt that's right. He's just like super cool with all of this all these harassment and bullying..
Summer Movie Preview
"The movies of summer twenty nineteen. What is out there? What's going to happen? And I've got to start by saying you think maybe that summer begins on your calendar near the end of June. But not in Hollywood everything in Hollywood begins early because summer is when they make all the money that they can make all year. So officially April twenty six it's the beginning of summer because the movie that opens on that day is called a ventures endgame. This is three hours long. Nobody's gonna care. I predict that not only will this be the biggest box office hit of the summer, but it will be the biggest box office hit of the year. You remember what happened last time all the ventures or at least half of them seem to turn to dust than die mean? Now have those ventures that are left to signing if they can beat the evil fan. He so evil will the adventures be wiped out forever. Look how much money did these movies make I'm saying why would you basically kill the golden goose? This is going to continue in some way, we all know it. So what else is out there? I'm looking at my list. There's a major thing going on now of in terms of taking the Disney slash Pixar animated classics and turning them into live action movies. So we have The Lion King line king. One of the most successful Disney animated movies ever is now being done as a live action movie. You have Donald Glover being Simba. You have James Earl Jones actually being this father and the same scores. They're the same using. And it's directed by John Fabbro who did such a great job with the jungle book doing the same thing that I think we can all feel optimistic about what's going to happen. And then we have Aladdin when we remember the. Animated movie who do we remember the most? We remember Robin Williams doing the voice of the genie. This time doing the voice of the genie and being the genie. We have Will Smith. So big stars in this big kind of thing, they tried it with Dumbo earlier this year, and that didn't quite work the way they wanted to do. But we're talking about lying king and the Ladan so big deal. Now, what terms of old fashioned animation is out there. I don't know if you're like me. But there's a Toy Story four toy stories always been my favorite of those Pixar. There's something about Woody and buzz light year, and you're probably saying to yourself. Well, and Toy Story three didn't it happen. That would he said goodbye, Andy. And he went to college, and it was all over remember. There was little Bonnie Andy gave his toys too. So we're going to have little Bo peep comeback. I think when you look at what goes on in Toy Story, you have that kind of feeling of goodness of field. Goodness, but done with all the magic of Pixar. So if those adventures out there are going to have a run for their box office money. I would say Toy Story. Four is going to be the one that does it. So what else we now have men in black men in black international? You're not gonna see Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones anymore. But this time you have Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. As new agents who are out there in this men in black universe. Sometimes you say to yourself do I want more of that? And you never know to actually see it. And I can only tell because I haven't seen this movie yet. But it looks like there's chemistry there. Then we have Spiderman far from home. You know, the Spiderman franchise never seems to end either. But we have Tom Holland who played him last time charmingly, I think, but now spider man, Peter Parker. They're taking a European vacation and the villain that they run up against is mysterious. Played by Jake Jilin. All I just think they're still some special sauce in the Spiderman universe, and I expect this one to also be a major hit. Godzilla Godzilla king of the monsters. I see that. And I go how much can they work this poor God's, but you can look at the trailer and see it. I like the idea that aside from viewer for Megan who is in it, Billy Bobby Brown from stranger things is in its she the dynamo. So if God Zillah can basically meet his match betting on little Millie to do something with that Hobbes and Shaw, this is fast and the furious you remember the rock of playing the the law man, and Jason stefon playing the outcast and the rebel these guys. I don't know if this is Hollywood kind of thing, but they tell us that Jason stadium and the rocked wing Johnson. Don't really like each other. And maybe that what the reason we love these characters and show so much because we liked that conflict. I don't know it seems a PR stunt to me, but I'm going to be there because this cars. There's the rock and their Stefa. So you're going to be there to and you know, it, oh and the big deal. Now, everybody has just in the midst of welcoming game of thrones back to their lives. The last season of that. You can't bear to live in a world where you can't see the stark sisters anymore. Well, now, you can dark Phoenix, which is part of the X men universe. Bring Sophie Turner, and she's Jean grey this character that we've seen before. But she's this younger version of her and she split between the good side of her and the dark Phoenix side of her. And to me, these girls are tremendously talented in what they do on game of thrones. And I think we're going to keep seeing them through the years, but her sister her at least game of thrones sister, maisy Williams is in new mutants part of that universe too. But in this case, they're all new characters to do this. They're all gonna be in the X men universe. Doing it. So that's it for the blockbusters that are out there. You've got everything from animation to comic book characters to everything. And that's the stuff that you hear about that your friends are going to talk to you about. But there's gotta be other stuff to part of summer is comedy of. I think we all really have gone through a long winter. And we're saying make us laugh give us something that will just make say, whatever. I can just sit back and not think. So what's there for that? There's a movie called longshot. This is a movie in which Charlotte Theran is playing the secretary of state who is running for president. But falling Manley in love with who staff throw in. Okay. It's like, a beauty and the beasts thing going on here. Seth Rogan is her speechwriter all of her people say what are you doing? You're going to destroy your career. But no, it's love. And if you don't laugh at the combination of Seth Rogan, Charlie staring. There's nothing left for you. And then we have the hustle. The hustle is a movie that used to be called dirty run scoundrels where the old days it was about conman. Now, it's con- women. They're played by Anne Hathaway and rebel Wilson. And they basically go all cross the continent finding rich people whose money they can steal pretty people. Glamour? What's wrong with that? Oh, book smart. This is directed by the actress Olivia Wilde, and it's about girls graduating from high school and saying we spent all our lives with our head in the books. Everybody else is going to parties and having fun. So they're going to do that beanie Feldstein plays one of them. She is the sister of Jonah hill and real life and Jona hill did super bad. This is kind of the women's version of super bad everything in it works, like a charm. You're really going to like that one. Then we have a movie called late night. This is about the TV talk show world and Emma Thompson plays. Probably the only woman on late night TV who hosts her own show, but she's got only men on her writing staff, and then she hires Mindy Kaeling who also wrote the screenplay of this movie, very very funny about what happens when you put women into what basically has been. A male bass they end of doing this. And the combination of Mindy king writing for the great Emma Thompson and watching them perform together is just so you've got to see that one to my favorite kind of thing. The dead. Don't die. You've got to admit that is a great and funny title. It comes from the indie, directing great, Jim Jarmusch. And it's cut people like Bill Murray and Adam driver by zombies. Okay. If Bill Murray is going to go out there and get laughs. Sizing up zombies. I'm going to be there watching him do it. So we have a good chance for laughs horror. I've got to talk about it now because it's not just the Cajun. Oh movie harm movie that makes money any makes people talk and get happy. It's they're everywhere. Now child's play do you? Remember the old child's play movies where you had Chucky. The crazy nut doll that. Always terrified me. Just. This doll who looks kind of little bit weird and freckly, but he has a voice on him like a longshoreman guess who's doing the west now of Chucky Marquel? Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker. And from what I've seen of it in. It's just been a little bit of it. It's wonderfully malevolent, so I'm going to be there to see that one. Then there's Annabel comes home. Another doll another possess doll also part of the conjuring universe where a viewer for Megan Patrick Wilson. Or the demon knowledge is that tried to make sure that nothing bad can come of this horrible doll Annabelle, but Bill will destroy and I will be there to watch her. Do it then them that follow their certain titles that get me them that follow really gets me? And it's about a snake handling church in Appalachia. No, they there are there colts. And they're almost religious cult where people pray. But they have the snakes, and they hold the life thinks pass them on. And you're thinking, what are you tell me about this like CD movie Har movie will guess who the star of this movie is the freshly minted Oscar winner Ogilby Coleman from the favourite, she's tossing those snakes around so irresistible. I think you're gonna love it. Then there's the Nightingale. See it's does not stop. It's har- everywhere. The night and gas from the director, Jennifer Kent who did a thing a couple of years ago called the baba Duke, which gave millions of people nightmares. And now she's back there following a woman who is chasing a convict got to be hooked. And then midsummer midsummer directed by REI Astor who last year gave us hereditary with Toni Collette, a really scary movie. Now, it's at a nine day Swedish holiday where everybody celebrates. But they'll be no celebrating after this one. So we. Got a lot of stuff out there. That's just going to scare us witless. And I couldn't be happier. All right. When summer comes. We think of all the things I've just talked to you about blockbusters comedy horror action, the rock of everything is there, but every even in a season like this. It's all about money and getting us into our theater, there are those movies that can come out entertain us. And also will hear about them at the end of the year when the Oscar nominations come out and the number one movie on that list, and the one that I haven't seen anything of India's of anyone that saw even anything past the trailer is called once upon a time in Hollywood it is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino its stars in order to Capri, oh as a TV star on the wane in Los Angeles. And Brad Pitt as his stunt double whoever thought of

"I was like this is special saw the first screening of it blown away by that. And then once it was released all, you know, we know what all unfolded. So so long story short story long. Yes. I did. I did feel like it was done to do something special. Well, we're kind of coming into the end. And I like to ask people who are thoughtful about the arts this sort of question, which is we're gonna really fraught time matai when it feels like the shout past each other alive. What do you see as the role of storytelling art in sort of facilitating whatever it is? We're going through right now, you know, helping us figure out, you know, the future. I guess will I feel like filmmaking creating content. Is really a an opportunity to listen like even from the creative standpoint. Like, you have to listen to these characters you have to have empathy and listen to listen to somebody story someone story or experience has to resonate with you, whether they'd be fiction or nonfiction that there's something about it where you feel like this needs to exist. So you you had to have responded in her something in the culture to create it. And then the audience has to listen as well or they don't have to. But if they if it's marketed rider, whatever hit taps into that right vein. They have an opportunity to listen, and to be moved to be affected to grow to be improved by that for that to be appointed conversation, and that's not in all cases. Because some things are just really purely entertaining in that has its place, you know, people people need in appreciate an opportunity to escape, but there's also especially in this time. A real opportunity to to carve out space to encourage the process of evolution to to encourage the process of us maturing and growing up as as a culture, you know? And and I think that at this point, I think if you could recognize that, then there becomes this responsibility to always keep that in mind, as you create content for people who are whether they realize it or not are really looking to continue to grow in improve in that that is such an important thing for our culture. That's the that's the responsibility of art. And it has always been the responsibility of our. Yeah. Yeah. While we end every episode by asking our guests, some of the same questions, you ain't gonna ask you one of those which is who is the actor living her dead that you've learned the most from that you never met. Oh that I've never met. Yeah. Sidney porty a I would say or James Earl Jones. What is it about those two men specifically speaking about James Earl Jones what I love about him is. And you gotta consider the time in which he did most of his work to see a a man of that stature like really onus space an own that voice. You know in not never apologized and any did work. There's a depth in always a wait in darkness in his work that always resonated with me. Like if you see him in like, the great white hope would Jane Alexander. He's like other worldly in that. And I just think what Sydney portray did in his time. And how he basically pave the way for so many of us to come behind him men and women in the way in which he carried himself the dignity. Respect the love of the craft always working to improve improving, and and what that did to leave it impression on how how press in America in the world thought of black people in that time in even after I think is is nothing that you could you can't take that for granted or overlook it. So I'm really appreciative of of both of those gentlemen, who have never had the honor of meeting. Well, green book and Spiderman which also entering theaters right now entry detective starts in January, my her slowly. Thank you for joining me..

"Yeah. Anyway, any realizing it's been a very long time since I've seen the lion. King period. Let alone a remake, you know. I think the last time I saw it was when it was I last one I saw was a stage play version. So it might be tried to get Cobra to watch it really early on like he was he loved animals. He was like overly obsessed with mart with monsters Inc. And like there was only two shows in our rotation. And so I tried really hard to find something. I thought he might like, and he watched it, and he was just like, yeah. But haven't tried again. He might like a better. Now that was the last time I watch probably last year. So this the quickest most watched the most viewed trailer debut from any studio within twenty four hours, we know AC Infinity. Are this is highly? You don't do it during the same time. Yes. Don't schedule it during the same time as a comic book icon ick person's death. So I mean and or detective Pika choose released. So what are you talking about such toys story four the last week? Choice. Sick. I didn't listen. So. List? I think. Didn't get the it was just a teaser. Anyway, this trailer got two hundred twenty four million global views in twenty four hours coming in second to Infinity war which attracted two hundred thirty eight million views within twenty four hours. I also don't know very many people who are actually excited for story for so like this one that being a remake versus a sequel that may not be necessary. I mean, I love the Toy Story series as much as anybody. But it's still like three ended. Really well. And now there's a fourth versus a line king. That's going to be beautiful if not anything else. So I don't know. I mean, I would be okay. If they didn't even record new like audio for James Jones dub in his old his own lines this like everything from Lion King just put that in not from CNN. Daddy's the bread. But it will be nice to see how he does it on another. You know, what if that's all they are actually doing that'd be awesome. I'm I'd be completely. Okay. With that. I didn't I did not love touches. I did not love kitty. Darth Vader lines done by James Earl Jones in rogue one. That's different than needed new lines. Like, so what you're kinda saying I'm sure that there's going to be different dialogue in the show. And so they could record those. But I'm okay with them. Just using the exact same audio from Lyon for him. Just like save some time. Sure. Yeah. This much money. You're only need to be in the booth for like a day. Fill in these lines will call you. If we need to do any idea. That's hollywood. I can do this from my red room in my they're not gonna do that though. Probably not because that's a waste of firing James Jones. So. Yeah. Mayan king is not a fuzzy puppy, but a fuzzy fuzzy lion. So don't forget your tissue are going to cry. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I also anytime there's a new movie like this. I always love the memes of all right? Keep your kids at home, this movie's not for them been waiting years for this movie is not for them like the incredible to where the guy was dressed up pushing the kid behind back out the door this. So you had your chance. I am pretty sure that we're going to go see this movie with Cobra because he actually loved the live action jungle book, I'm not seeing that one yet these live-action animal one it was on it was on net forever. And they took it off. And Cobra was really sad because he loves king Louis and mean, Christopher Walken the Christopher Walken king Louis he really liked because he just destroys an entire temple because he's so tall and big. He's Jain Norma's. And so he's like, oh man because he loves he loves monkeys and chimpanzees and he loves king Louis, so. Yeah. I I'm sure we'll go. See I'll have to have them watch. The original times before we go. See I haven't seen any of the live action. Disney films. Did you see puff the magic dragon? I mean since the live action remix. Yeah. I saw that one Terrell and all that never saw..

How old is he now? Oh for the love. Steve sorry done. This is how curious. Told you guys about the time. I was talking to James Earl Jones and didn't know it. No. All the ties. I was working stage at the Tony awards in New York. Because I I went to I went to college had a lot of connections. And so we would work the Grammy awards the rock awards the Espy awards all sorts of things has like seat fillers and talent escorts, and we were I mean all the theaters in their super tiny. They're very very small and backstage is even smaller and James Earl Jones, apparently, let's just call him a nice older man was sitting on the on the stairs. And I was just kind of waiting to grab Steve Martin to bring him to stage for God's sake. And he was just thinking about the weather and the traffic and just, you know, just very nice small talk. I walk away. Just walked to another part of the backstage area. And a friend of mine goes. What are you talking to James Earl Jones about? No one was I talking to James Earl Jones, and he goes that guy. Insteps is James Earl Jones like look, I'm your father. I'm like, you've gotta be kidding me. I'm like, I don't know. I don't remember. "The fucker. Let me see. Stunt, man. Jess the king has returned is giving it five stars. You know, I don't cry during trailers. But this one got me the moment. I heard James Earl Jones speak. My God, I got chills throughout this whole trailer. Literal literal goosebumps like I was I was shaking afterwards. My cousins were laughing at me because they're like what's wrong like is the same shit over and over again. Like we've seen before why are you losing your shit right now? I'm like, dude. I just all align. King trae loan like. They don't care about movies. Like we do. But we you guys understand what I'm going through my God. What a beautiful trailer. There's some hit around Corey Feldman. Crazy. You know, what that is why they got James Earl Jones sure, he was asking earlier watching. I get why they got him. I was just wondering how you felt about it. I said I was mixed on it. And I'm minute when I said that I thought James James l Jones his voice, his voice for this iconic shirt that is why they had to have them, and it and it worked even I had to say like, listen, you know, when I heard his voice, there's nothing like it. Even I got a little bit of a chill inside of me. Yeah. So voices bone chilling in a good way in a bad way. Sometimes can you imagine like? Hey, man. What's wrong? Family. Okay. King trailer. Man. I'm just saying. Real problems. Okay. We know how this brother feels about this. Jeez. Somebody just took that tees up as. A movie lover he loves this posters in the back of stars. Yeah..

I don't like it when he's saying I like it when he raps to as a human being. I don't wanna hear this line rapid. I think he's super talented and everything I just think a singing voice is not that he's horrible. I mean time damn I was trying to be nice. Voice voice. Somebody doing a parody of kidding. When he put up the red the album with red vote on it. And I listening to every song waiting for him to rat. And then he did it. And then I realize like the next song that he made he was still singing. Oh, this is a thing doing now. But you rush. Yeah. I mean, I'm looking forward to him being I guess you want to be being the youth in the room. What about you? Yeah. Well, that was my thing where they open with James Earl Jones. So I was like all right. Well, he is Fossa. I guess it just seems like if you are getting a new cast like this whole like the one thing fresh about it is we're passing the torch to new actors kinda like I'm mixed on having James Jones be the voice again. This is such a throwback to what's always gone on. We'll fuck you. I'm here. I did voice. Liz, let me tell you. Star Wars movies. No more. Let me tell you somebody born. I was once like you, as you know, what I I wasn't into this James Jones being being reprising his role at say, okay now, you'll just be lazy. Y'all actually stealing from your own. You can't find the whole blackmail voice radio. And then I actually thought about it. And I said, but can you really while the man is alive? Can you really recast James got as on day? You fuck them hands. But. In your voice. No hill. No, no. You, you know, no. To buy insurance. No, you know, if you. If James Jones alive in James Jones, I read it the voice James Jones and going nowhere James Jones, data fire somebody else who sound like me James Jones going to be jam. So he's going to be stuff whatever the fossil. Now, you've got MU saying. You don't even fuss dies. You're going to be Darth Vader. Does. Now's is going to be replacing that I'm cool with. I'm five didn't tell can replace him in fences. He could come in and be moved foster here fences angel momma and. No. Fences. I'm talking about Connex. Don't give. No, no. Territorial about the lion. King's Charito about James Joyce, you ain't replaces places. My boy. I won't jam zones. James jones. Did it you just not gonna replace him? That's all I'm okay with that notice. Hang gonna be here. Forever. Well, when that happens Martin, we'll get you know, what we'll do. They got enough recording to him. They'll just peace at all together. Recast all over again, James Jones ain't going nowhere until you go somewhere till he does that after that. He's still going to be those characters. I'm good winning cast. They didn't recast anybody. Right. Right, right. He's the only one because they said, they probably even did casting. And they'll let you James Johnson. He came in the frat off the road. Okay..
