Letitia James calls for sanctions against Donald Trump. George Santos steps down from a house panels amid controversy. And Kamala Harris to attend tirade Nichols funeral as more officers face charges. It's Wednesday, February 1. I'm Anthony Davis. New York's attorney general letitia James on Tuesday asked a judge to sanction disgraced former president Donald Trump, his adult children, the Trump organization, and their lawyers over their responses to her $250 million civil fraud lawsuit against them. The lawsuit last September accused the defendants of involvement in a decades long scheme to manipulate asset values and Trump's net worth in order to induce banks and insurers to provide better terms. On the 26th of January, the defendants filed formal answers where as often occurs in similar lawsuits, they denied or claimed to lack sufficient knowledge about dozens of substantive accusations in a letter to the Manhattan judge overseeing the case authoring Goran, James said many responses were demonstrably false, frivolous, or otherwise improper. She said the trumps should lose some of their defenses as well as face sanctions. James says the improper responses, including Trump's objection to being labeled the inactive president of the Trump organization during his White House term, though he had used that description in an October 2021 sworn deposition. Trump's daughter Ivanka was criticized by James for saying she did not know whether she had personally met with bankers or could confirm the contents of her own emails. James also rejected arguments by Donald Trump and his sons Don Junior and Eric that she lacked standing to sue and had already rejected their contention that she was pursuing a political witch hunt. Meanwhile, a video released on Tuesday showed Donald Trump answering questions from letitia James in a deposition of the civil fraud case last summer, questioned about his financial affairs, the former president repeatedly invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self incrimination. Part of a refusal to answer, he repeated more than 400 times. Republican representative George Santos of New York announced on Tuesday, he is temporarily stepping down from his two congressional committees, a move that comes amid a host of ethics issues and a day after he met with House speaker Kevin McCarthy. Santos has faced numerous calls for his resignation and is facing multiple investigations by prosecutors over his personal and campaign finances, and lies about his resume and family background. Santos was assigned two fairly low profile panels. The House committee on small business and to the House science space and technology committee. Still, his arrival has left GOP leadership frequently answering questions about the congressman rather than about their priorities for the coming months. In a prepared statement, Santos said he wanted to focus on serving his constituents without distraction. The question surrounding Santos go beyond his misrepresentations to voters to include whether his congressional campaign followed the law in its reporting to the federal election commission. There have been lingering questions about irregularities in his campaign committee's financial reports and the source of Santos wealth. If Santos campaign is found to have knowingly and willfully made any materially false fictitious or fraudulent statement or representation on its paperwork, it could potentially face criminal charges the FEC said in a letter to the campaign last week. Democrats have been highly critical of Santos, as well as McCarthy, for his efforts to oust three democratic lawmakers from committees, while at the same time backing committee assignments for Santos, who has lied so thoroughly to his constituents about his background. Kamala Harris will, as vice president, attends the funeral of tirade Nichols, the black man who died three days after Memphis police officers savagely beat and executed him following a traffic stop earlier this month The White House said yesterday. Nichols would be eulogized by the reverend Al sharpton at a service at Mississippi boulevard Christian church in Memphis this morning. Family members of briona Taylor and George Floyd, who were also murdered by police in Louisville, Kentucky and Minneapolis in 2020 will also attend. Meanwhile, Shelby county district attorney Steve mulroy said on Tuesday that prosecutors could bring more criminal charges against police officers and others in connection with Nichols fatal beating after mounting criticism over how mol Roy's office and the Memphis police department have handled the case. 5 officers all black were charged last week with second degree murder and dismissed from the force. The department confirmed on Monday that a 6th officer Preston hemphill had been suspended from duty soon after the January 7 attack, but has not been criminally charged. Questions have been raised over why Memphis police waited weeks to name the white police officer involved in the lynching as it emerged an unnamed 7th officer and three emergency responders have also been disciplined over the case. After the video footage was made public last Friday, calls have grown louder for local police officials and prosecutors to be more transparent about the circumstances of the incident given that the initial police reports do

Carly was on the ball and followed my request 100%. She was not too aggressive and pushy with me but was respectful while staying focused and on top of the taken requirements and overall process. Just prior to funding the loan. Carly had to pivot my loan to a different product than our original discussion because it better suited my goals. Carly never pushed back, and she jumped on the request, and she delivered results. Ivy, then stepped in on securing additional documents needed appraisals and getting a loan completed. LeBron James calls bubble “the most challenging thing I’ve ever done” in NBA
"But let's go to the NBA where, of course, the NBA finals finally here. Takes Place and begins tomorrow in the bubble of course, the La Lakers against the Miami Heat and there's been a lot of talk about. Should there be an astro on his championship. Whoever wins it? And Robin I both agree no, it's ridiculous. We're not just throw out asterix. Asterix four when one team or player had an unfair advantage over the rest of the guys he was competing with. and. In the bubble, everybody's going about the same business they all got to stay into bubble. They all were away from their family for the same amount of time they all have had to deal with everything going on down there. So I don't think there's an asterix but some. Have gone to the opposite extreme. And said, there should be a middle asterix because this is actually tougher. They, any other? Championship that you would have to win in the NBA history. And none other than Lebron James. Kind of lead gave credence to that thought. Today or yesterday with his recent comments about how tough it's been to be in the bubble how tough it will be the go ahead and complete this thing with title probably the most challenging thing I've ever done. As far as professional as far as the commitment something and actually. Making it through. A knew what I was coming. Where we're coming here for obviously, you didn't. I will be line if I said up here to new that everything inside bubble what it would not the tower that would take. On your mind body. And everything else can it's been. It's been extremely tone, but you know I'm I'm here for one reason and one reason only and has to compete for a championship and that was my mindset. Once I aired the bubble once enter quarantine process I today's, and then right from my first practice mindset bus to be here, make the most of it on and say what you can do in lock him on with the main thing is and the main tangles frosted finish the before championship. So that's just my mindset. Throughout these I don't even know how many days it is whatever how many days it is. It feels like five years really doesn't. But. I've been as locked in as I've ever been in my career. I think that's good. Honest talk from Lebron. James. Look Yonezawa Kuhn talked about he was the first one to say, yeah I think he deserves an asterix because it's going GonNa be the hardest NBA title ever you know paraphrase a little bit but that was his sentiment Paul George of the clippers you know he talked about how the bubble had him depressed

Bolton book says Trump asked Chinese president for reelection help
"Yesterday there was that anvil of a tell all book from former trump national security adviser John Bolton dropping in media reports including an interview on ABC ABC's political director Rick Klein is here and Rick start with the court rulings a president who presumably planned to boast to supporters in the upcoming rally an election that he fill the courts with conservatives but two big losses your thoughts yeah it's a strange it's a strange situation for him because on one level you're right this could demoralize supporters have been so proud of these pics I and it's kind of strange for the president to have these blows dealt to him I basically citing him for a lack of confidence governance company governance among other things on the other hand did he really want to deport hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants that that existed dreamers right before the election he really want to get people to lobby fired he doesn't I think personally care that much about the social issues in it maybe the Dodge some legislative and legal bullets here and he can now turn this into a rallying cry he's at he's tweeting this just this morning as I'm sure you've seen that Todd maybe the courts have it out against Donald Trump and eventually turned into a different rallying cry at the rally tomorrow yeah well an apparently everybody has it out for him including John Bolton and let's take that up the president is also threatening legal action to prevent his former national security adviser John Bolton from publishing that tell all book the room where it happened it's supposed to be released to the public Tuesday but the cat way out of the bag with interviews he characterizes the president as ill informed driven almost exclusively by his desire for reelection easily influenced by dictators here's your colleague Martha Raddatz add the full interview is going to air Sunday night how would you describe trump's relationship with Vladimir Putin I think Putin thinks he can plan like a fiddle I think Putin is smart tough I think he sees that he's not faced with a serious adversary here I don't think he's worried about Donald Trump well I think they did this kind of judgment from former national security adviser is almost without precedent while the president is still in office to say that he is unfit for office at the catalog confirmation in essence of the charges that brought the impeachment inquiry and a roughly similar situation regarding China it is damning it is devastating I look president has weathered plenty of books before by people like James call me all the way through Arosa but what makes this may be different is the the timing and to have this now dove tail with Joe Biden's messaging about the president of being unprepared for crises as played out with over nineteen and this tense moment around race relations it challenges the president in a fundamental way and he is out there tarring John Bolton I'm saying he's a liar and and it made things often is is out for profit motives but he's going to have to answer for lots of specifics here as well as the general sense that a growing number of Republicans will say that this president just doesn't know what he's doing will ease some of the allegations the president didn't know that Finland isn't part of Russia but you mentioned China it barely according to Bolton trump pleaded with Chinese leader xi to help him win reelection by buying lots of stuff from American farmers and this is from a president who was impeached although not removed from office but impeached for inappropriate relationship with a foreign leader but the well Rick didn't matter to his base or fervent Republican backers like Jim Jordan are you hearing that any of this matters I don't think it's surprising the people that were inclined to to not believe the president a way I think where it has a greater impact is in how the cumulative efforts of of so many folks have to draw on the shortcomings of this White House and you have a Republican group out there that's been a trolling the president with ads in Washington and elsewhere questioning his fitness for office I don't think that John Bolton or really anyone is capable of of of a mass defection among the trump base but for lots of orders you might have questions about his is ready yes or maybe just be weary of the drama surrounding Donald Trump I'm John Bolton it offers an important piece of evidence from someone who literally was in that room when it happened
