"More or less. At calvin ridley is right in that group and then after that i think there's a little trump. Okay but thomas. To so adams. Thomas went digs hopkins digs hopkins hill. Okay dave yeah. I'm taking an mfa approach to my pr receive rankings. It's adams one hill to digs. Three really for new copies five haddonfield. Nfc adp in june by the way his fifty fifth overall. so he's around five pick. Yeah wide receiver. Tony you do have the same names. No you don't have the same names. Sorry dave you do not have michael thomas in your top five has second. I don't have time to my top twelve. I'm on an island. I'm michael thomas for sure. But so i'm on a different island. Most people have in between us. Yeah i think he he's right around. He's wide receiver nine overall. Adp he's closer to keenan allen and he has stage abraham chris argument for michael thomas many times. Let's hear it again. But i dave why you don't have him in the top twelve. Drew brees has retired. So now the asshole tom modus fide. You've got jameis winston who i don't think any of us should be convinced that he suddenly begins going to become a more accurate quarterback and you've got taste mill who did target Michael thomas a lot. But it wasn't necessarily on a lot of deep stuff a lot of slants and i know that that's the type of route that michael thomas can dominate. I think defense is no at this point. It's like the opposite of what happened to. Aj brown defenses is know what to do when they're taking on the saints in its third and eight..

"Jameis winston. This is right. Exactly this is james. Winston literally can kill your you know minus sixteen Half point p pr With a negative point per incompletion point. Ppo half per completion minus one. Point per incompletion yeah. Basically completion percentage of a quarterback manners. Right yes so highly accurate quarterbacks Matter in in this particular league yep it's tight and premium so it means so you get a half point. Pr for all the positions except for tight ends where you get a full point cracks. Oh travis kelsey becomes travis kelce. He's going to be a top five pick and pretty much every draft this year. I would first rounder most ears for yes and you also get half a point per first down both and receiving yep poor thirsty kyle was trying to do projections there and drove him crazy to see you know And then kickers get kicked decimal scoring. There's one too. So i think it's an important thing because the scoring so weird but it's just an it's an important lesson to always know your league scoring and look at those look at those quirks and you know what what these scoring two quarterback becomes pretty important in these leagues. Tight ends having tight ends. That that Do well become really important. Listen staying healthy. Obviously is important but having accurate quarterbacks that don't throw interceptions becomes wildly worked. Yeah i do this specifically with the quarterback scoring. I brought it in last year specifically for the reason to show people. You can adjust your quarterback scoring so that good quarterbacks get really good. Points and bad quarterbacks can really hurt you. It really separates the normally quarterbacks you can stream those quarterback thirteen through seventeen or whatever and make up for the difference in this. You don't want bad. Quarterbacks good quarterbacks a lot more value in something like this and it separates the tears between them. I know that you have the you have the number one. Pick in your own league. Somehow that worked out and always take number one or number twelve just. It's still busy day for me. I need a corner sure. And so you have the number one pick. And i've seen some mocks. And there's a whole by the way scott fishbowl community out there in terms of where once you know your draft spot like if you're picking whatever force you can find a chat with all the people that are picking four in their individual leagues of scott fishbowl and you can people talk about strategy and there's all sorts of moxico on and there are there are charity best ball leagues where you can draft from your own spot as well. Yep and so I guess. I probably should have screwed ice created by saying this but by the way. If you're unfamiliar with fishbowl basically everyone's divided into these nine hundred hundred people are divided into twelve team leagues. I should have just done this. They're all divided in twelve team leagues. They play through is a week twelve week. Thirteen this year. I haven't loved duprat. it's it's going to be eleven or twelve. I believe it's it. we have to. We have to start early because with them may teams. You need to you. Need to You need to have the playoffs. Be longer to have cuts each time right now. Basically they'll check. Yeah so the double. The upper half of your league makes the play off of your division makes the playoffs and then you know the the gets habte basically a Every week that it goes on so mine playoffs between everybody and then half the field gets axed every week until you get to a champion pretty much. Yes so you have the number one pick. Scott are you taking mahomes. I've seen Mahomes go number one overall in some mocks. I've also seen mccaffrey obscene kelsey. I've seen you know. I've seen those seem to be the three that i see the most that the those are the three considerations at number one yup. Is there anyone else that you're considering. That's the that's so two questions. Are you taking mahomes if not who you taken and also who are. Is there anyone out of the other than those three that you would consider it one. I don't know that there's anyone outside of those three for me. There's there's i guess. There's a couple of the top quarterbacks but it's gotta be mahomes if you're one on one i actually. I actually flipped to do the twelve. Now you didn't know about this. But i actually flipped. I'm going to do the twelve now because it's my league. I'm going to do that but at the one on one. I would probably take mahomes just because of the third round reversal. I'm i would be picking one. Oh one and then i would pick again one dot twenty four but then it reverses so i don't get the one dot twenty five i have. I have to wait another round so right so the third round reversal. I think is important in and so for people that know what that is. It's exactly what scott just described so typical snake draft. You know one through twelve and then twelve through one in the second round but instead of the third round starting with the first pick the third round starts once again with the person picking twelve getting the first pick of round three right and the idea behind. This is what the the idea behind this. It's actually been around for like fifteen years and there's two types of three are through third round reversal. The i is it. Snakes for two rounds than the entire drought flips on its head and it snakes for the entire draft. That's what we're doing. that's the most common. The other one is where the third round is. The only round that's reversed its you. You set up the whole draft one way and the third round is the only one that's reversed but the idea behind it and if you're a subscriber to wrote of is or row pass because wrote a visit part of our pass correct got that in there for you matthew appreciate that promo code six zero gets you. "I've jalen rose now. General coach no no no jalen rose. He said one hour no natural howard. He didn't give it away with this. One is extra clue. Okay go ahead. Greg playing for the university and culture university of georgetown surprising got this. I really am you play for and coach. Georgetown university georgetown. Wow i do not know who that is. It's not the it's not the main head coach. Okay i'm going to give it to ya. It's patrick evening. I'm surprised. I don't get that man. Oh that's not the head head coach. But one of the coaches know. He's the head coach of sound right. Now he's only tournament. I thought you said he costa team in the nba miller. I said he needed to the nba finals. Because my bad it's all good. Patrick in wing is been he is Been to the final four three times. He ward one collegiate championship and he's also been to nba finals and he did not willing to founds but he's been to two of them and all around player and why am i talking about him. Suspend with backward violation. We're big on children's cherries as why i'm really big Talking about him all the block city had he basically used that turned into was a monetary value and gave that to charity. And he's continued to do that even as he's grown he's been a motorman has numerous organizations targeting young people so patrick ewing salute to use her yard for backward violated. The show. sir. I am ready so but one more note on. Patrick ewing man. They got let that guy into the stadium that he helped build a thank you at that you a mural something so crazy stuff again. I don't know bad. But that's a travesty. How are you going to question who that man is he. He helps build stadium and let them into their band. I'm sorry chris go ahead go. Didn't mention i love it. I love the violator of this show is members of the media. All james harden as the brooklyn nets and. We were going the things i've heard of the media. Say once pass the ball. I the unsweetened winger. I can't believe in to dribble and reading stimulus. I did you watch any of the houston rockets. We pay attention to the mvp candidate now. Well let go back. He's aggregating twenty five points now and assists and averaging over twenty eight points so between toiling asan's and more likely to get it this season. You know the problem is the is coast bias. Everybody thinks this as bricks little but a small market. You just proved it. All amendments of the stem brother will. James harden's plane. You clearly want weren't watching for that all ya get the back court violator of the show all day. All of one of every single member of the media. I mean you gotta give them some slack. Saying i'm bored. I'm giving it to buy this if you're not somebody's talking about you. The first one is the one that he he could dribble dribble dribble drew. Your your body. Be dave chapelle bit where he doesn't live voice that's about to be of a little bit. Oh greystoke christmas usual. That was the back court fire later in the backcourt violation by chris. Good stuff sir. Good stuff all right. Let's get into some football. Let's talk about one. Jameis winston showy. He recently signed a one year with the saints base. Salary of five point five million but could be worth up to twelve million dollars in incentives. Are you guys doing are selling jameis. Winston as the starting quarterback of the new orleans saints on bond. I'm bonded. I'm bonded on any given sunday. Mark my word. On any given. Sunday jameis winston can win a he can win lars guy's got a cannon foreign arm. He's talented house. A guy to stone for five thousand yards thirty touchdowns and thirty intercept. Show my gosh taste my mouth just quarterback that's thrown for over thirty touchdowns and at least thirty interceptions in a season after throwing five thousand yards. That's why he doesn't have a job right now. Still i'm blind. And no those receivers in new orleans are very excited to you so fast boys because some big receivers and michael thomas he's not a burner but let that man is going to go. The man is going to win. That man is going to catch some balls. Catch a whole lot of balls now. Hopefully drew brees has dropped a couple nuggets at least one or two nuggets that helped propel guys stopped doing interceptions. Hopefully he stop taking those chances. I think he's got a better office of line and In new orleans. And i think you'll be able to play probably a little bit more conservatively. Waste not taken as many chances you to as he has to where you had to play for tampa bay. But i'm i think it'd be fun. I really liked the fact that they brought him back. I'm with you one hundred percent. I'm buying this all the way in. If i was playing poker. I'd be all in on this. I love it for all the reasons. Low said to add to all thing. I'll say is i believe in jameis winston if you take away those interceptions momentum more behalf but if you take those interceptions which i think he will take away. Then he's close to his plane like any quarterback in your him for really cheap. I'm all for it. I'm with you low. We all go to by james winston on this. I think a lot of people sold on them but the too much of their only flaw in his game is the interceptions right right. I'm here turnovers right. I'm going to go in and buy two as well. He has too much working for him. Over near new orleans he does have Drew brees there to mentor him. Encasing easily mentorship. During the course of the season he has sean payton in their the. Probably the best head coach. He's ever had an office of genius there. You mentioned michael. Thomas also as well Low but the one key thing. You guys are not mentioned. Kamerhe alvin kamara those quarterbacks best friend running a good running back off. Okay office line. They're both they're both in the same category right. If you have a good running game you can do wonders as a quarterback and this is going to be the best running game that james winston ever had obviously okay so you look at that there and not even this one the fact that takes them hills there as well. Okay tastes hill is their champagne. Let be known that. This is a quarterback competition right. He let it be known. That's what it is. If that doesn't motivate jameis winston to go ahead and grabbed his starting role the new orleans saints. Nothing will but i truly expect him to go ahead. Overtake that become the starting quarterback and just grow. I've been waiting for. James wis to grow for very longtime was ever. Since he came out of college for florida state. I thought man this guy has he s something there i think he showed a little bit entebbe last year. It was just like you mentioned the interceptions. I think you're right chris if you get this. Cut that in half. He will be a very very effective quarterback the saints. So i'm buying i'm all in on venus. Listen there with the saints. I really i really am what do you what do you think is a successful season for him as a saint mixture curtain harlem turnovers in half. That'll be a success because he's gonna get yard. That's not a problem. He has no issues getting yards his noise. She's doing t- throwing touchdowns just cut your look look ten interceptions max and two lost fumbles. That's all you get is all you get. Because he's going for at least forty.
Free Agency 2021: Biggest Winners and Losers From Day One
"Who's the biggest winner from day. One the biggest winner from day one already told you it was. It was a my intro. You're listening great question. Jonnu smith out. It's cam newton. Well that depends kenyans a starter for sixteen games. That's right that's true. It's yeah okay. Potentially find jonah smith. Donald smith big contract with the patriots They invest heavily in him. You like this for him i do. I think you know Obviously the quarterback is the concern. But this is the scenario especially with the move that they made that we look for in fantasy as tight end could be the leader of the pack in terms of targets and opportunities and so look cam was not good in twenty twenty. If cam does start sixteen games in two thousand twenty. One greg olsen. During a five year stretch was pretty awesome of the top tier tight ends of the guys that we did. We talk about what he was in the next group you know. And so from twenty two thousand twenty sixteen. Greg olsen averaged a hundred eighteen targets a season seventy seven catches Decide one thousand yards and five times. Johnny could do that. One season estimate put them right around a top five tight end. Greg olsen was great and not only was he great but we also saw from cam newton in that stretch that he could give you greg olsen. Who could finish as a top eight tight in five straight seasons and give you a number to wide receiver in four of those five seasons three or four of those five seasons whether it was. Steve smith or kelvin. Benjamin and even ted ginn one year. So that's interesting. I'll afforded talking about that on the show tomorrow on the tuesday morning show and then of course we'll have a whole bunch of more news items to react to. Hopefully we'll get some kenny golladay news at some point on tuesday or maybe it'll happen later on monday night as record this at about nine fifteen eastern. Who's the biggest loser from day. One the biggest loser from day one on asking these questions before. I told you that we were starting with these egypt's before the show The biggest guys they ryan tannehill johnny smith and Us down smith and corey davis They're going to have to struggle to replace those guys Davis probably more. So the jonah just from the standpoint of what he was last year with his production number two receiver sixty five catches nine hundred plus yards and five touchdowns. So we'll see what they do in in in that in that regard but i think Tannehill you know. I had him as the number eleven quarterback. I dropped in the thirteen after today. Just because i think it was close between in my mind. Joe burrow and tom brady put them behind both those guys. Okay how 'bout jameis winston ryan tannehill right now. It's soom jameis winston as the starter. I still go. i think it'd be messy. You know. I can't situation we're taking those not blaming So i was hoping james would go someplace else and tastes hill. Would still be the guy with maybe a rookie or somebody. Young that they could groom continued. Just gonna to get you know too much of the mill package of james as the starter and if as milton starter. Davis is gonna play very much so it just feels like it be messy situation oil. Who do you like better. Corey davis with the jets nelson agholor with the patriots. I think adler is going to be bad. I don't trust the situation. You know i mean he. He had so many big. Plays for the raiders last year and he was so good for derek carr but he did that on eighty two targets. I don't think he gets eighty two targets with the patriots. He's going to do the same thing. So with what cam does running the ball with what jonah smith brings to the table with. What the rest of the receiving corps will look like if julian edelman on the team if he's healthy Nagla is going to be A guy that's not on many fantasy rosters middle of the season whereas corey davis could be the best receiver for the jets. I don't know if that's going to be the case. But i would take davis by far over niagara.
Stop with the Cam Newton nonsense
"Season officially upon us. We've got a lot of lot of stories a lot of rumors lot of things floating out there that may not make people happy. It's the long dark Patriots podcast. We're going to talk about everything and anything related to the Patriots particularly their quarterback situation, of course always rate review subscribe all that good stuff regarding Patriots podcast with Nick cattles nickel be back for another episode later on this week. I'm John zanis filling in and the story du jour or do week or whatever you want to say here appears to be a Cam Newton wage. His name is resurfacing and the Patriots quarterback starch and Greg. I can't I can't think of Anything worse to happen right now if you're a Patriots fan right now and and all you want is New Hope. Okay. This is a new hope the possibilities are endless blank canvas money draft picks Capital. Theoretically the Patriots could do a lot of different things some of which could be very exciting and interesting and I can't think of one thing that would just throw a wet blanket all over over all over that any more than bringing back Cam Newton. Yeah John, it's it's weird. I I started hearing the chatter on all the Sports Talk radio station a week and I'm like what the hell is going on? Like it's basically like Cam Newton's become it's similar to some of the debates that you hear in politics like where they just like Stoke fear in people to generate interest in their shows and things like that. It's like, ooh now Cam Newton's the boogeyman that like who they might be bringing Cam Newton back just to get people to react like people people need to settle down and this is why you suck. Had to be SJ this why you listen to this podcast because you know things like how last offseason when everybody was going nuts about Saddam was a guy in Cherry stem is going to be this and Jerry system is going to be that and he's going to be the next guy. You know, what did I tell you from January of last year over a year ago. I told you that he was not be the starter that there was going to be some sort of Veteran competition. So, you know, welcome to coming here where you where you get well informed you don't have to worry about the hysteria. You just get straight facts and and what's going on. So here's where we are. We Cam Newton and this is something that I've been talking about since the end of his Patriots season, which is it's always been a possibly that Cam Newton could come back here. It all depends on what happens with the market and who they end up with the quarterback and this and that but for anyone to suggest the Cam Newton month Is going to be re-signed being the definite number one. That's what we want starter here next year. That's not going to happen. It just it just isn't in and here's why. We've also sort of touched on this but just to sort of reinforce the point. I think what happened this past season is the Patriots realized and and look we've talked about it that there wasn't really a plan back to check understood that there weren't enough chairs for the quarterbacks and somebody was going to be left could have been Jameis Winston could have been Cam Newton could have been Andy Dalton could have been anybody. It happened to be Cam Newton and they said they'd make it work. It did not work and what I think John what happened was and actually I know this happened the Patriots realized after the Cam Newton experiment that not every quarterback can work in the system and that's not to say Cam Newton still not capable of playing good football. I think that he is do I think it could be better with a better Supporting Cast absolutely I do and do I think God Part of the problem last year. Yes, but at its basis in this scheme, you need a quarterback who sees the totality of what's going on in the field. You need someone who's going to win before the snap. You need somebody who's going to see something on the defense say that's this is about to be a bad play here. We're checking to this and Cam Newton outside of you know, he might he might have alerted a few plays here and there but not even close to what we've seen in and look I'm not going to compare him to Tom Brady. Nobody's going to be Tom Brady, but The Baseline Jimmy Garoppolo would have been a lot better. Jarrett Stidham probably would have been a lot better in terms of what he could even when Jarrett Stidham got in John. We saw things like Palm Coast him would change things that the line that's the Baseline in this offense. And that's where it starts. The number one tenant in this offense is don't run any bad place when the quarterback is incapable of doing that for whatever reason that's that's strike. Number one strike. Number two is understanding after the snap. What's going to happen? What is the defense going to do? What is that going to mean in in reaction time? Like if I see the if I see the free safety all of a sudden rotate from too deep to single single life safety. I should know like that who's going to be open, but great. Let me ask you real quick. Cuz everything you're saying makes perfect sense, but did you need a year of did the Patriots need a year of Cam Newton to know that he wasn't that guy? Is it did you think he was that guy walking through the door? Is there anybody really smart Personnel people out there who thought? Oh can't might be able to adapt to this Patriots dial offense. It didn't seem sensible fit. Anyway. This is a guy who's always had accuracy problems who who plays a totally different style of ball. I mean, I don't know why you would have brought him in the first place. If your idea was to offer a patriot style offense
Turnovers Doom Saints in 30-20 NFC Divisional Playoffs Loss to Bucs
"Bill. I just want to dive into it here. Because there's a lot to get to after watching the bucks. Beat the saints. Thirty to twenty so new orleans had been in tampa bay twice this season in week. One about four hundred years ago and then again in november. So what was the difference in this game vs those other two. I really simple pablo the saints. Just didn't protect the football. In the two regular season games between these teams the saints won the turnover battle. Both times there are plus three in the week one victory and then one up in the rematch. Tom brady threw five picks across those two games. Only seven in his other fourteen games. That really felt like the saints had his number and they were gonna have to flip that to win in new orleans. Well they flipped. It didn't turn the ball over the saints coughed up. Four times including three interceptions drew brees. The bucks turned the first few takeaways and two touchdowns and use the fourth to wrap up the game and kneel down. It's virtually impossible to win a playoff game. That sort of margin the saints will just sloppy in this game. Mean breeze could have thrown four or five picks. He threw an awful interception under pressure for the first one and on the same page with alvin kamara on a scene route for the second interception. The third bounced off jared cook. Who also fumbled away a completion on a drive where the saints were looking at. Go up to scores. They lost the ball and proceeded to give up seventeen unanswered points to end their season. So clearly the bucks had a formula of sorts for stopping breeze in it seemed like every aspect of this game. But it's not just that they stopped him instead. They made him look straight up terrible really often and i'm wondering how did they do that to that degree. Well i really think that todd bowles bucks defense. Look the tape from last week's game against the bears look how drew brees was playing. Look at how pal those receivers were moving and just didn't think there was anybody in that lineup who could reliably win against man coverage or beat them down field with their speed. This was especially true. After the saints lost deonte harris who had two long punt returns early in this game to a neck injury the saints did get a long touchdown but it was not with brees on the field. It was the lone snap for one jameis winston who came in and use the same trick. Play the bears ran against them last week. For a long touchdown coming across his sanders they handed to them. Refers goes to jameson mega man. Wide open trade smith at the twenty five fifteen ten five and a touchdown saints and jameis winston. What a touchdown pass against his former overall when breeze on the field it was pretty clear at the game plan was to dare him and his receivers to try and take shots towards the sidelines and get downfield and the game plan worked the bucks used heavy doses of twists and stunts upfront create pressure and then just smothered breezes receivers. I honestly it really felt the only reason. Sean payton didn't bench breeze for winston on the last drive. The game is because it was probably a last few snaps of drew brees his career.

Maybe they'll change <Speech_Male> their office on the slot <Speech_Male> but they are about <Speech_Male> ball placement <Speech_Male> and accuracy. Short <Silence> rose did not <Speech_Male> does not <Speech_Male> jamison. <Speech_Male> Then you look at his strength. <Speech_Male> In terms of passer rating <Speech_Male> it turns of all <Speech_Male> of the variables added <Speech_Male> up <SpeakerChange> drew. Brees <Speech_Male> is four. James <Speech_Male> was twenty seven. <Speech_Music_Male> I <Speech_Male> don't know where. I'm getting my confidence <Speech_Male> from other than the fact <Speech_Male> that i remember him at florida <Speech_Male> state and i remember <Speech_Male> him last year having <Speech_Male> highs and lows <Speech_Male> and maybe four <Speech_Male> three game <Speech_Male> stint that <Speech_Male> he can hold it pass <Speech_Music_Male> marcellus. <Speech_Music_Male> I had <Speech_Music_Male> to take coming into this <Speech_Male> block <Speech_Male> worried and more <Speech_Male> research because <Speech_Male> dion said <Speech_Male> look good <Speech_Male> feel good <Speech_Male> good play <Speech_Male> good play good <Speech_Male> they pay <Speech_Male> get my one shot. <Speech_Male> Please let me get <Speech_Male> let me zoom in <Speech_Male> zoom in <Speech_Male> closing up on his one <Speech_Male> shot. You're going to see <Speech_Male> a fresh <Speech_Male> fade. You're going to see <Speech_Male> a fresh low line <Speech_Male> of does what you're going to see <Speech_Male> because i take my job <Speech_Male> seriously. <Speech_Music_Male> Take me off camera unless <Laughter> we could <Laughter> <Speech_Music_Male> listen. <Speech_Music_Male> Please <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> john jay <Speech_Music_Male> see <Speech_Music_Male> on national <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> we dollars <Speech_Music_Male> and he did not have <Speech_Music_Male> a fresh line. <Speech_Music_Male> Now y'all <Speech_Music_Male> tell me. <Speech_Male> If <Speech_Music_Male> i can take my <Speech_Music_Male> job seriously <Speech_Music_Male> enough marcellus <Speech_Music_Male> understand <Speech_Music_Male> an play <Speech_Music_Male> gun play. <Speech_Music_Male> Good <Speech_Music_Male> good all that stuff. <Speech_Male> Yeah that's why. <Speech_Male> I'm worried about <Speech_Male> james because it's the <Speech_Male> details. The details <Speech_Male> the details <Speech_Male> now. Why <Speech_Male> i think davis will <Speech_Male> have success <Speech_Male> because teddy bridgewater. <Speech_Male> He was five <Speech_Male> when he was filling <Speech_Male> in for drew. Brees <Speech_Male> ben five and notice <Speech_Male> year at any point dot <Speech_Male> jameis <Speech_Male> winston churchill. He did a lot <Speech_Male> of bad last year. <Speech_Male> I get it. Also <Speech_Male> for five thousand yards <Speech_Male> one of eight quarterbacks <Speech_Male> in the nfl history to do <Silence> so. The other reason. <Speech_Male> I've <Speech_Male> told you this before. <Speech_Male> Jameis winston has gotten <Speech_Male> far too much blame <Speech_Male> for all the interceptions <Speech_Male> he threw under bruce <Speech_Music_Male> arians

"Hold on think about it and let me explain why i ask that most of us take this. Most of us think this is it for drew. Brees right this is his last season. I think majority of people believe that it might not be. you know. he's he's he's going to retire this year. Of course he could come back but as of now most people believe this is he even said that this is it. He already has a job lined up with fox. Which by the way. I think he's going to be a really good brock broadcaster. He's very witty intellectual. Good at talking good communicator. Like he'll be good broadcaster for sure so he already has a job lined up now. That doesn't mean he can back out of it. You know jason win had a job. He backed out so it can happen but the the majority all signs are pointing to this being it. Four drew brees right so if drew brees is to retire in. Let's say he does. Let's let's say he is to retire. Let's say he did not get her all right. Let's say he is playing this week and he is all good. Hypothetically here okay. Follow along with me. Now you're saying. What are you talking about for the quarterback position for the saints right. They have drew brees. They have jameis winston and they are taste hill tasting hill. Drew brees are their backups. Both are unproven pieces. So you're making speculations. That either tastes him hill. Which i do not is starting. Qb initially and i said this on this show before back in the off season we did a whole show on this but to make a quick. The reason hill is so good right now is because he isn't being game plan for by the opposing t weekend. We out he's not being game played for the starting huby that has to make dead. Starting that has to make all the throws throughout the entire game. It's much easier to come in for a couple of plays a game while the defense is on their heels. Not expecting what is going to happen. That is why tastes them. Hill is so special in his role right now. Does that make sense. It has look. Maybe he could be a good qb fulltime. But there's a reason why. And i get that. They paid him but guys wake up and smell the coffee for you tastes them hill. Truth that they he's a legit. Qb and i get it the saints and sean payton. They pump that out of their organization all the time. Oh we love this guy. yeah you will. This guy is a swiss army knife but if you really loved them that much as starting. Qb why in the two years in a row have you gone inside teddy bridgewater. Who is a legit starting to be in the jameis. Winston who some people think can go back to being a legit started cutie. You don't go and sign to guys like back to back years if you think you have a gym. It tastes them hill. Alright tastes hill is special. Because he comes in at unpredictable moments and he does quick plays throws it a little bit runs in a little bit a keeps the defense off guard on their heels because they aren't gain planning for it every single day leading up into that week. Everything changes when they start to do that. So that right there is why. I don't believe in tastes hill as in every down quarterback as starting quarterback. I think he's a good. He's really good at what he does. And i think he needs to stay in that role so that then becomes the question of. What do you have in jameis winston because as we all know james has a ton of questions around him as well. I mean the last thing. That's why it's a backup right now. The last thing we remember james four other than eating his fingers is being the first. Qb ever throw six and thirty touchdowns in the same season thirty interceptions in one season. So we don't know about jameson. Yes we all know. He's got some raw town. We all loved the raw talent. that's why he was the number one pick in the draft. But we don't know he has if he's able or is going to be able to overcome the true flaws that he has the flaws that had him on the open market and not one team was willing to pay him starting quarterback money so then let's go back to my question. Alright follow you. Follow it along here. We're doing this in pieces. Let's go back to my question. Remember that question. I asked him at the beginning. Is this actually good for the new orleans. Saints the answer is yes because the saints now get answers the saints get to find out who james's in their system see. That is the key here. Just because james was a pez machine just handing out interceptions left and right in tampa does not mean he will be that with the saints. And that is what sean payton is hoping for. Sean payton now gets to find out what daddy answer is because the flaws i'm alluding to obviously is he can't protect the football. That is the flaw. That is the big circle. The big asterik the big question. More around jason winston all right now throughout the history of football. We have had big time throw numerous interceptions but they were always able to be productive as well see. That's the key thing we haven't seen jamie's being able to do both of those the point where he his positives or so positive that it outweighs his negatives i mean we have seen that from guys like kirk war. Kurt warner hall of famer. Even terry bradshaw would extent breath. Four even guys from this decade this the last couple of decades philip rivers and align manny but all of those guys were also able to put together a winning seasons and even some even some of them one super bowl titles right for the most part but that was all that was all a that was also a different time. I know rivers is still playing in. Eli just retired the other year. But if you look around the nfl now at the quarterback position what you see you don't see guys throwing eighteen. Nineteen twenty twenty five thirty intersections in the year and keeping their job for very long us. Don't see that actually. The game has continually evolved to the point where we see guys like. Aaron rodgers throw thirty touchdowns and four interceptions and we all think. That's gotta be our quarterback. That's what our quarterback needs to be. The quarterback position has just gotten too good where we don't we can't we can't stand someone. It's so frustrating to see someone throat. Thirty twenty five thirty interceptions in a year it just put your team in so much Of a of a problem of into bockel. But what. James does is he takes risk right. That's his thing he takes. Risk is a risk taker. And i think that we have the idea this idea in our head that he can be coached out of taking those risk. I know. that's what sean pains. The thought process was when they win at sign. They thought okay. Well let me try. And bruce arians. He really couldn't do it. Because bruce arians is the epitome of a risk taker. He is james winston as a coach. He's feeding into it. You know and yes you're feeding into. This is his biggest weakness so to speak right. So bruce arians was honestly making it worse for him while yes he made him through. Hell a yards there lots of touchdowns because he was the whole risk it no biscuit mentality but it also got him in more danger with his interceptions shawn. Payne is not so much debt. Okay so i think sean payton believes he has a better opportunity to eradicate or fix those folks. Because with bruce arians. It's that whole like. I said no risk it no biscuit type mentality. Not with champagne. Champagne is going to say okay. Let's find it advantage right. would you do well. What can i gain plan for art..

"Not going to go there. Rick but she just went the. Go you need to go I'm ready I got running shoes. Alvarez British dying. To You I. Give it to you. This way Michael Jordan is a Cobra. And Lebron James is the BOA constrictor. Michael Jordan is GONNA strike. Perfect finals, and you're GonNa just have like unblemished success, but you. Lebron that BOA constrictor. WHO's touching every stat line that she all around is go take. His time to circle is prey. Is GonNa. Take his time to to pull you in, but it's going to be the same fate brother whether you struck me like Jordan or you just take the time to suffocate me to come to the. A who you are, this argument reminds me and every time we were in the locker room. Talk about who's the greatest running back of all time. And I was like. Are we really going to have this conversation is Barry Sanders, but then all you would hear because sports fans are prisoners of when they were impressionable, those younger years when you were still buying sneakers and listening to music before you can go out and try and break curfew those years so when I say Barry Sanders I kept here Jim Brown because of folklore and him playing against those little tiny liming out there and I would hear Emmett. Smith because Smith had the three rinks brother. I don't WanNa get into a folklore, conversation or championship deficit conversation because that conversation had fourteen accomplishment not into vigils. We asked me WHO's the greatest. Running back is Barry Sanders. We asked me who's the greatest basketball players. Is Michael. James Lebron. I'm not sure. Davis listed is making a I start in New Orleans, but he's also making some pretty outlandish statements. We'll tell you what to make them. Welcome back to speak for yourself from the crib presented by Andre, Marcel while he joined once again by the bar errands. It heals spikes. Let's move to New Orleans off. We're Jameis. Winston is trying to start over after a disappointing run in Tampa, performer top hick may not have lived up to expectations, but he's still got plenty of confidence in himself. Maybe a little too much competent, some say in a new profile and bleacher report. James didn't hold back. Explain it well. I know what I'm worth. And I know day in and day out without publicly coming in saying that historically I'm one of the best quarterbacks to play the game. To Kill? You like this confidence James. Set aside. Do not like this Cup I, don't. I don't I don't like this statement. I love this statement and this is the reason why. You look at what he was able to do. Last year he knew he was not going to be based at all and when he was able to put up numbers the eight month in NFL history when it comes to passing in a single season and like I want to talk about this, and this is something that people really sleep on. He talked about starting earlier this offseason. Changing his diet, which he turned into a beating. Also lost seventeen pounds. Also take it another step. And when he got lake surgery so now, is he the first quarterback timbre? Do that took off season change probably not, but my point is that them saying is that it takes a certain mindset to be able to adapt that type of theory. You have to have that mindset to be able to make everybody who's looking at the outside. Look it in say. Nothing matters to this young man, because only the only thing that he wants to do is to play football, and that's what I see. That's what I hear by him. Be In new, Orleans especially up on the drew brees to really be able to see okay down. Why could see why I took chances? And why should not chances so I love what me and I'm sure? Every teammate on the saints love is addition. would be on this one. Listen I I feel like his I felt like his resume does enough talking for him. It speaks for our. You're talking about a national champion winner and in College, the Heisman Trophy winner in college, a number one overall draft pick in the national football. and has thrown for crazy numbers in the league, and some will say all crazy numbers of interceptions for some strange reason I guess. Maybe it's the crab legs or something that has happened with with James Winston Eaton, Eaton, WS, or whatever I listen, but we started to act as though James Winston is not someone we should take seriously. It's almost like he's the running punchline of a joke. You say Jameis Winston and Let's start laughing about it like I. Don't get that I. Don't get why it turned into that, so I like James Winstons Flex right now. I'm Affleck's saw how many of these starting quarterback in the national football league had the resume that James. Winston has good dude that starting in front of him as a first ballot hall of Famer no doubt, but doesn't. Doesn't have the oil historical resume that James wants then does so listen I, understand where he's coming from, and sometimes the best thing for somebody to do is to look in the mirror, and remind themselves of who they really are could be the major difference and deciding point for James going to New Orleans and.
New Orleans Saints agree to terms with QB Winston on one-year contract
"Yahoo Sports is Charles. Charles Robinson reports at Norrland's is finalizing a one year deal with Winston. The former buck coming off a five thousand one hundred nine yards season thirty plus touchdowns three interceptions and immediately eyebrows. Raised the idea that Winston would stay in the division. Go to the Saints. Backup drew brees. He enters the mix with Tatum Hill. Who IS SUPPOSED TO BE? And maybe still is the heir apparent To breeze so it just leads to a lot of unsolved mysteries in its own right greg your thoughts when you heard the news that Winston may be and quite possibly is headed to the saints I I wasn't shocked because I I what I did. This hashtag setup into your own comet with a big way. Why why you made your Greg sounding you often. I got it. I wasn't gonNA say anything but then mark reacted to it and I can't help myself but go ahead. I did this Saints Twitter Pot. Podcast just knew that way wolf as podcasts. Him into my buddy Adam and they were saying they were hearing. This was going to happen before the draft so they got sources on the inside and and they ended up being proven right and it makes all the sense in the world of your Jameis Winston and makes sense of. You're the saints too. I think you get a chance to get Jameis. Winston in the building for a year probably drew brees his last year. We haven't heard any financial terms the Jameis Winston deal you know was reported on before the Taste Hill extension Came out and the money that was involved. That extension came out. Part of me does wonder. Is this deal for absolute sure does did Winston know about that before he he came determines but either way he? He should do the deal. Because if he can somehow impress Sean Payton or if he can end up getting in the lineup and being as backup like Teddy Bridgewater What better place to possibly learn because damis Winstons still has a lot to learn but he also has a lot of talent a guy that throws for five thousand yards can do things in the NFL and like there's no better place to learn. Other than to undo. Breezy and Sean Payton.

"If you've you that are still out there. That are not sheltered in place. Thanks everybody else's checking us out through your phone your laptop and streaming the show. We are here for you wherever very glad to be able to do it and talk about some of the things that make us feel a little bit at least like there. There are still some sports out there. Bank guys thank goodness for the NFL and Free Agency and the CAROUSEL THAT. They've been on because that is the one thing that does feel pretty normal. At this point that football players are moving around a little bit. Yeah they are moving around going all over the place different teams different uniforms different towns you know new environments all those are things that crazy thing about it is they won't probably get to enjoy those New Environments and in in sceneries at all those things until summertime comes around at is probably the earliest the NFL teams will get back with their players in even when that happens. It'll be interesting to see how fast they can get up to speed on teaching everybody everything in it and I think when you look at it a lot of people were you know a little concerned about the NFL continuing business as usual when everything shut down any other sports but the NFL had wasn't playing games they were Kinda. Just you know doing everything from a paper. Standpoint valuations trying to figure out what they should do in terms of contracts and deals. It was good thing in my opinion that the NFL went forward because it it gave people something to look forward to. If you took that away imagine had they took the drama of the Brady to the buccaneers away. They've taken that away. If they've taken the drama of Todd Gurley being cut in released in signing with Atlanta. We will be sitting here pulling our hair out till summertime waiting to just get some football action key. Do you think that the team's bid or less active in free agency leads to active in changing their roster? Will they have an advantage? Assuming that this thing lasts like we think it might well into the summer and ot as or affected maybe training camp is shortened in maybe All the things that coaches used to get their new players on the same page or continue to to work with the guys that they have with the systems that they haven't placed if I've got a team and I'm just making a numbers here but if I only have five guys and you've got twenty new guys. Do I have an advantage? I think you do a continuity and is important. That's why coaches have gone out and signed quarterbacks that they've had familiarity with L Z because they don't have to teach anybody anything they just. You know it's like okay. He knows the system. No problem drew brees. Going back to the New Orleans. Saints is a plus Michael Jenkins going back to the New Orleans. Saints isn't plus because those calls and those things that they're asking you to do is going to be repetitive. They'll be able to just go. Bam in fall right in the line. Where guys that are going back to situate or going to situations where there's unknown. They have to wait to the summertime before they actually can get going. There may be able to get the play book and look at some stuff as far as playbook goals but actually out on the field. This is the New England patriots. Wanted Brian Hoyer because Brian. Hurry up. Two other times. It's makes his third. Stop that offense. A system is not changed no matter where he's being he'll get in their summer. It'll take them a couple of weeks and it'll be like old habits again. The only reason why Kishangarh that I brought up those they knew he's doing this couldn't resist clapback. Be because you try to put things out of context my point being that if Jameis Winston was view universally as a very good quarterback and he's only twenty five years old. He would've gotten a job over guys. Who more familiar with the system? Because he would have just been better quarterback he wouldn't have been he would have say with enough Tampa that's my Wayne Tampa and that just simply about is not just simply about being familiar with the system is also. They look at Jameis Winston as not being a viable option period. No friends if he was a quarterback if it was if it was Aaron Rodgers if he was Arab. There's not a team that would have said. Yeah he don't notice system. No they would have gone after Aaron Rodgers. Because he's just a good quarterback Aaron Rodgers it wouldn't have thrown thirty sanctions and stole crab legs either so a lot of a lot of that has to do with why certain teams have passed on the the New England Patriots Ryan Hor. He's been in their system. There is no off-season to teach these new quarterbacks. There's no offseason for that. Nick foles has been Matt Nagy System. They don't have the time to get him in the summertime and try to teach him. They don't WanNa do that. That's just not what they WANNA do what. Let's go back to being a west coast system very similar to John. Grooten system. Go go go to the rams forsake. Do you think this played into the decision with todd. Gurley and all that because Todd Gurley was such an important part of what they did offensively and what they I would imagine. They want to continue to do. Offensively is to throw the ball to the guy coming out of tobacco that was an incredibly useful weapon for the rams. You think the fact that because we're in the situation that we're in where there's going to be some limited time to implement new guys in the new systems that that was an all part of the calculus in an exciting whether or not the cut. Todd Gurley north. They are they. I think it was a money. I think it was money and I think that there was a little bit. Concern is healthy and that health led to a rift and I think at the end of the day they felt better to just part ways with them rather than try to hold onto him. It'll be interesting to see how they try to re integrate that position moving forward but Abbott without a guy and Todd Gurley who goes to Atlanta that runs a zone scheme running scheme much like the rams the so right you he plugs right in into that without them trying to teach him all of the different things so with that mind. Let's go back to the chargers here. Tyrod Taylor as their number one quarterback right now. Cam Newton is going to be available Jameis. Winston is available because Anthony. Lynn has familiarity with tyrod. Taylor does that. Kinda give him the inside track or if you're looking at it and when cam becomes available to see know Cam Newton's better quarterback than tyrod Taylor a vacuum but with all the other things going around familiarity short and time scheduled this tyrod Taylor look better to you because of the situation. We're in as opposed to a guy like I can't no I wouldn't say that if it cameras healthy because you take a chance on a guy like that. If he's healthy you get him up to speed as much as you can and then you just. He's on the fly learning. I mean that's a talented quarterback when healthy. I mean you you you don't say we'll tyrod. Taylor knows the system better than camp so therefore we just roll with tyrod Taylor now if you rolling witting is probably because you're going to take a young quarterback in the draft. That's the only reason I would say that you would go with him now. In terms of tyrod Taylor Jameis Winston. I'd rather have tyrod Taylor in the system. Then have James Because I gotta teach him how to do so much in limited in thirty interceptions. Then I won't have the time for the thirty for thirty. You brought it up a minute ago and you said that James with crab legs thing and we we know that he has a low uber rating Things like this that this is part of why he's still looking for work. Or is it exclusively the fact that he has not performed at the level that you would want your star? Do you think is nonsense? Things are still part of his story. Because when I look at Jimmy Winston until you br I mean obviously remembered that kind of stuff but my my version to Jameis Winston. The quarterback is that he throws picks not that he steals crab legs where I would think that I would look at it. That's more of A. That's more of a joke upon just to have some fun with it. Are they get? I think it has something to do with his ability but it also has something to do. Where does he fit like with to fit like you want to sign him to take? Whose position like like who spot like. Do you want to sign him in Denver? Do you want to sign him in Miami? I don't want to sign him in Miami because I'm looking to draft a guy and I got a bridge guy and fitzy so it's like where does he fit. Well he could be a backup. Okay how much money do you want? Do you want to go back air? Rogers do you want to do you? WanNa you WANNA back air rises for the next three years. Do you want to pull the Teddy Bridgewater? Do you WanNa find a team like a New York jets. Were Sam Darnold is in and out of the lineup is. Do you want to find that type of teen where you now get an opportunity because the boo birds out or guy is hurt that this is how Ryan Tannehill was able to maximize. This is how Teddy Bridgewater was able to maximize turning into a sixty million dollar payday for him by going and sitting behind drew brees and then coming in five games and going five. Everybody going okay. You an estimate that that we can. We can do something with that. The so you gotta try to find that spot. If you Jameis Winston you need to find the spot that makes a whole lot of sense for you to get back on the field. Can you go to a team like the Jacksonville Jaguars? Even though they think that men shoes the answer do you go there. It play a backup role to him and all of a sudden he starts to struggle. They insert you in the lineup. Y'All GonNa nine game tear. What do you think of? Melvin Gordon deciding to go to Denver. This was a guy that when you're looking at Todd Gurley going to Atlanta like okay. There's an opening the backfield in L. A. Melvin Gordon is unhappy in in in the chargers organization and very quickly he goes to. Denver and Denver does not feel like a team. That's close to do a whole heck of a you surprised. Though there. I was a little surprised but I think it's I think he'd probably did that with a little bit of emotional. I'M GONNA get back at you twice a year. You're GonNa see me in quite frankly. The money had dried up for the running back position. So Melvin Garner make you know seven million dollars a year now or whatever. That number is seven half my seven and a half million dollars. A year opposed to the ten that the charges were offering. Do you think that you know this idea that he's going to face his old team twice a year is just GonNa Backfire or are you excited to see his match up? You know like the way the idea that if a brady has signed with the chargers they would've faced the Patriots. And you want to see that matchup is it enough of drought. And you just curious to see what he's GonNa do against his old team because he's not that big of a back I mean he's just he's just a guy now see tiger early against the rams would make me go. Ooh But to to see Melvin Garden against the chargers. It's like well. Okay he he. He got the best of them. He didn't get the best of them. Mataya girly tiger. Elise is interesting because Todd Gurley a former offers a player to ear pro all pro guy could have been an MVP big money. I forty five million guarantees sixty million dollars in two thousand eighteen. And now he got put on the streets. Picked up by the Falcons. Now you say well. I can't wait to the rams play Atlanta we. It's funny girly in particular because girly is almost things that you just described key. But I haven't seen girly last season in your. This is GonNa give you another opportunity to say Travis. I told you so. You have to listen to me when it comes to things about football. I think there's a real chance that Todd Gurley is. I don't want to say dumb because he's not done but the days of Todd Gurley being what you just described and what we saw two years ago there in that those are just in the rear view mirror and the tug early is not going to strike the fear of God and yet he comes back to play against the rams at some point..
NFL free agency goes on amid Coronavirus
"For you and there's still a ton of NFL news to pass along because that offseason my goodness that's been well in the swing past the week or so Kansas city defending champ sign former giants offensive lineman Mike Remmers among the free agents still available league wide Jameis Winston G. Davey and cloudy there was an S. I. report that there's an offer to cloudy on the table from Seattle currently though teams are unable to bring free agents into their facilities for a physical and team doctors cannot be sent to
Jameis Winston became the first 30 TD, 30 INT quarterback in the most fitting way possible
"Chavis Winston's future again on Sunday the season ended why him throwing a pick six on the first play of overtime in the loss to the falcons he becomes the first member in NFL history of the thirty thirty club at least thirty touchdowns and thirty interceptions in the same season you know the expression the enemy of great isn't bad the enemy of great is good Jameis Winston is good I don't think I'll ever be great if we were running any organization ESPN NFL team what would we want what attributes would we want in our leader to me its dependability its reliability I think he's high character I think it's important and but to me that's a fatal flaw he's been a week for five years yes AT a career interceptions without that dependability I think his ceiling is to be good and not great how sorry how does it affect your decision making at quarterback from GM standpoint when your do you have to look at what's out there absolutely I think it's the axiom Jason as you want to win for today and develop for tomorrow and again Bruce Aaron's took the job he was very clearly I'm gonna ride with James Winston on the make him better but at some point you have to say Hey you know what we have to react to what we're seeing so I wouldn't franchise him and the result would franchise in is who's going to pay him a lot of money coming off of the year they just threw thirty intercepted right that's the thing I I don't mean we're talking almost thirty million dollars on a franchise tag right so I mean I think they can get a deal done for less than that well I I would need to get the deal done I mean it's right for me my I'm not signing on a big jet one of the worst things you can do when you have your hand on the ball every player's turn it over and he does it more than anybody I can't rely on that even offer me a deal and by I agree to this a further as a former player I always felt like I was a GM you guys will hold me accountable if we pay him a lot of money we're saying that turning the ball over is

NFL: Sunday Night Football Recap
"Some interesting results pain. Every dog has its day and apparently sports books were able to buy back with their biggest Sunday of the football season thus far yeah tell you didn't capitalize while enough on that not the best. Sunday in it was it was a mess one one of those ones where you go through the car and you're like man I like this. I like this when I like this and they just don't make the cut and left a lot of money on the table and makes two of us. Is You watching coaching. We mentioned some of the bigger results clearly housing you root for the buffalo bills they get to the window at the Detroit lions as well as home underdogs and then of course Sunday night football we see the New Orleans Saints Cover Ver- as modest two to two and a half point underdogs but all that aside pain when you watched all the Games yesterday you went through some of the box scores and everything else as we do Monday mornings the good the bad and the ugly what stood out to you as some of the positive takeaways at least a quarter point of the season. Let's go the guy that constantly gets crapped on Jameis Winston. I thought he was fantastic. Obviously again needs to clean up. The mistakes still had the the massive brain fart late in the game which can happen but I think if you ask Bruce Arians eat like hey if Janus has like one w t.f moment every game. Would you take that I think the answer is probably probably s you know and aside from that one throw again. James was fantastic at the sixth deepest average intended air yards per throw in with that his completion completion percentage with four and a half percent better than expectation. He was accurate. WHO's officiant hit explosive plays your move that one pass and it probably was his best performance says a pro I think and when you look at geniuses performance clearly we know he's been surrounded by weapons. Tampa looks to speak figuring it out as far as they're running back situation relation that performance kind of the tip of the iceberg that we should have some optimism for James over the next twelve games I would think so right and we kind of came into the season and said hey this is is an interesting fit here with James who likes to be aggressive and head coach that likes to be aggressive if they can tone down the turnovers the offense has a real shot here and so when you're looking at this team two and two they blew the giants game missed field goal and I know a lot of the naysayers were saying something to the effect of they didn't trust James late so they ran the ball. Allah meanwhile there's an explosive town fields which to my Gavin's which set him up in the position to kick the game winning field goal so I viewed it a little bit differently early. I thought Tampa was going to be a team. That was going to impress the one team. No one was talking about in the off season right all of these changes at head coach and coordinators gators that were happening throughout the league. This was the one this was probably the biggest acquisition when you can bring in a Bruce Arians when he can add todd bowles to his defense who is the one that wasn't being discussed a lot about and I know in the off season. The win total was set at six. There's a reason it went up to six and a half. There wasn't sharp money but it wasn't talked about because they were still projected. It'd be one of the worst teams in their own division but I really liked what I'm seeing from Tampa right now. The ground games get going especially Ronald Jones the last two weeks as well. That's been a benefit and helped the offense to make a good balance but as long as James doesn't turn it over the scheme the style and the weapons are there for him to be

"Yeah. No doubt Ivan's will be very interesting to see where does this. Give him the bump back up into the the higher tiered wide receivers. I will say this the head coaching change in in Tampa is gonna matter at ton. Yes. Because if part of the new coaches philosophy there is is containing the mistakes of Jameis Winston turning this team on a defense. You know, cutter isn't let it fly guy. So I'm curious to see if we can have the same expectations for these guys next year with Winston, but right now Godwin six for one fourteen Evans six for one Evans finished with over fifteen hundred receiving yards for for those who have not paid attention to how massive his season has been. All right. They Jones six for ninety three. There you go. Yeah. Jarvis Pfeiffer one or two Josh Reynolds had a couple touchdowns brain and cooks out a couple touchdowns. Twisting the knife and Mike semi final team. I yeah. It certainly the the bigger one was just the Josh Reynolds. How two weeks ago it had been his snaps massively reduced. They went with Tyler higby jailed Everett, and they said ad that was that was fun for a game. And they went back to their ways of the three y I wanna talk about one specific tight end. Oh, goodness. I mean, is it better the one that I want to talk about just to funny might because look in week sixteen and Mike stare in the camera down. There's a note here insert Mike tilt in week sixteen. Mike made the not so popular deep pick..

"Progressive insurance. And sarah. There's this the Jameis Winston Sega and everything around the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is going to continue to have all eyeballs because it's not just about this year. It's about whatever the team decides it's going to do moving forward. And that that means the coach the coaching staff an end the quarterback all of this comes into question and this up announce season for the bucks was defined in and up and down game on Sunday where they were up by eleven over the saints. And it looked like they were going to be able to do something to the saints unthinkable beat them twice in this year. And then they give up twenty five unanswered points. They lose twenty eight to fourteen and the frustration bubbled over on the sidelines. As the cameras caught. Jameis Winston and center Ryan Jensen going at it on the sidelines and Ryan Jensen leads the team in penalty. So, you know, it's one of those moments where for many quarterbacks you turn around and say all right quarterback holding his guys to a level accountability. Can you do that? When your quarterback that frankly, isn't all that great. Let's start with the Jameis Winston specific example. And then we can pull out to a bigger frame of reference and discuss whether or not quarterbacks always are given this strength or this power in ways that we don't want to assign other players on the team or specifically the reverse, right? Do we allow someone like an offensive lineman t yell at a quarterback for throwing a pick without questioning how that relationship is going a little start with James and just say that while I understand frustration with a guy who is leading the team in penalties. And especially if you believe that those stem from a lack of focus or something like that. To me if you're James Winston, and you've let your team down by being suspended and missing games by being benched repeatedly for terrible play by being completely unpredictable and inconsistent. It is very difficult for me to swallow him criticizing another player in that way. That's not to say that he has to stop altogether. Because I think it's impossible for him to be effective and remove all ideas of leadership for accountability. Right. We need to allow him to do that. If he's going to keep playing and playing in any in any good way. But the way this look to me, and you know, optics is one of those words that some people get sick of hearing. But the optics of this when you're a guy like him who has let your team down so many times in so many ways this year. I I don't think he's earned the ability to do that. Well, Ryan Jensen now has team high hundred yards in penalties this season which would put him a hundred yards. Put some forty yards over the next closest. Person and there's an offense lineman that feels like a lot of penalties for Senate, particularly that feels like a lot of penalties that the real questions about is that focus is that technique is that not being just not not particularly being gifted against the guys you're playing against through a lot of variables here, but to go off on somebody on the sidelines. You have to believe that that's the best leadership method. I think what what makes it difficult for a lot of people. Not just you is that ultimately is hard to see James Winston and think of him in that leadership role. What's difficult for me is I don't want to apply. One thing. One principal differently. The one player than I would the other. And I go back to Sundays example of Derek Carr. Somebody that is particularly likable for most people. He went off on a young wide receiver on Sunday for essentially, not cutting the route off the right way and not reading the defense properly, and he's up in the guys grill and Yellen his arms or flailing and on the broadcast. They said at the time look at that their car leading the team because you got to you expect..

We'll get to that later. His full thoughts on Twitter and everything else from this weekend. But Mike Gundy, making a poop noise at a post game press conference is by far the sportiest thing that happened this entire weekend straight talk. Brought to you by straight talk wireless. Best phones, best networks, no contracts. The other thing that happened this weekend is the return of the NFL's favourite early season storyline. Twenty four karat fits magic tap danced. All over us all over our Sunday afternoons yesterday, and almost did it he almost completed the most Bengals thing possible. Which did you go out there and dominate for three quarters only to give up the goods at the end bring a game all the way back to a tie led. By none other than Ryan Fitzpatrick Ryan Fitzpatrick remember was the story of the early portion of the season. When James Winston was suspended for the first three games. Jaimes Winston didn't play the first three and a half games. Even when he was eligible to return. James Winston who came back. And we all said, I remember talking to Adam Schefter said this is a guy that the buccaneers still anticipate signing even of Ryan Fitzpatrick, just keep doing well, all these different things. And now, here's where we sit with Jameis Winston this is this is the real world that we live in with James Winston right now. Jameis Winston on the year now has ten interceptions including four interceptions yesterday is one shy of the league lead despite having played three and a half fewer games than everybody else in the league. The person who is second to is rookie Sam darnold. Jameis Winston it was his third career game with four hundred exceptions which appropriately enough. Passes. Andy Dalton for the most such games since two thousand fifteen the first year that Winston entered the NFL. So that's who he's been. This has been the consistency of James Winston who says he understands the decision to take him out. It was very humbling. But it's.

"This is more of a philosophical question, Greg, but we're in year four for Marcus mariota and Jameis Winston, is there a time in a player's career or around time when you believe that what we're seeing is kind of is who that guy is. This is what he's going to be and what we're going to get. And you know, longer expect to see growth. Well. I, let's put it this way. I think when you see a player within the same offense with the same coach and the same system over a meaningful amount of time, let's say three years, then you get a very strong idea. I think when you change systems and Mario has now been through three, he's in his fourth year and his third system. So I think you have to be careful you I, I'm telling you what the tape shows. I'm not indicting Mario to as a player. This is what the tape shows now he's not very good, but that doesn't mean he can never be very good. And he's in a brand new system, which is, you know, has a lot of elements to it as most do so it needs time. They can't run the ball, which hurts him. There's too many long yards situations. So. I think it's hard to give a final definitive judgment on Marcus mariota. James Winston has been very up and down. He's been in and out of the lineup a little bit. Clearly the last two years now he's been in the same system for quite I think, from day one because they're cutter, I believe, has been there from day one if I'm not mistaken, and certainly the last three years and we're gonna find out. I think over the rest of this season about James Winston. That's a really good point. And I would say maybe about Mario to as well. I think that's fair though. When a guy's been in the same system for several years, you get to the point where, okay, this is probably what he's going to be an it is a new system for Mario to man. It looked like it that was ABC rural. Here's what people will say. And again, they don't have the same weapons. I understand that. But then for the people who who want to take the flipside of that argument, Ross Delk say, well, look at John McVeigh. He comes in Jared Goff was in his system with Jeff Fisher and that group and within five, six, seven weeks, Jared, Goff. And even from the beginning, you kinda saw Jared Goff looked like a totally different quarterback. There was a sense of timing and rhythm to his game. You know, mariota is theoretically in much the same system because that's where Matt leflore came from and he struggled..
Fitzpatrick or Winston: Who will start for the Tampa Bay Bucs?
"To footballs and entertainment business, and you have to convince the fans to part ways with money time. And and emotion. Loyalty dedication to the team. What are the people in Tampa? Think of Ryan Fitzpatrick versus Jameis Winston, right? I mean, I saw a bunch of beards. I didn't see anybody eating ws in the stands on Monday night. I saw a bunch of beards on Monday night. Do the Tampa Bay fans want Fitzpatrick or do they want Winston, and and coaches can say we ignore the outside of baloney. If you ignore what your fans want what the people who pay the bills want what the people who either show. Show up or don't want the people who either clamor for you to be fired or clamor for you to get an extension want. Then you're stupid. You have to listen to what the fans want, and you have to be communicating with the fans, you have to be doing focus groups and surveys, and you have to have your finger on the pulse at all times of what the people want because that's a factor. It's not the deciding factor, Chris. But if there is a clear momentum for Fitspatrick, you can't move to Winston you can. But you have to do it at your own risk until there's that clear move among the fans to go with James Winston.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers mum on whether Ryan Fitzpatrick or Jameis Winston will start
"The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback situation. Jameis Winston will be reporting this morning. He's done with his suspension. You could imagine he's eager to get back to work. The team is two and one and Ryan Fitzpatrick has more than twelve hundred yards passing with eleven touchdowns versus I think now four total interceptions. So if you're Dirk cutter, what would you do? We certainly know that Fitzpatrick has a passion for football and that fire that intensity that competitive spirit. That's contagious. And the team has responded. The offense has responded. The offense is happy and productive. So now Fitzpatrick goes into a week of uncertainty with Tampa Bay after the loss on Monday.

It's the talents there though, and it should be fun to watch what it'll be interesting is if they can get better against the run on defense. "Jameis winston only got three games freddie freddie coleman one half of freddie and fitz simons on espn radio like i i understand a lot of the criticism that the nfl gets for how they handle player punishments a lot of it feels and is really arbitrary and really inconsistent whether it's you know player behavior off the field or even what guys do on the field vont has perfect of the cincinnati bengals is often suspended now he has put himself in the league's crosshairs but it just has felt like with him like the punishments are are made up as they go along including last year when he was suspended initially for five games and then ultimately for the first three four a hit in a game against the kansas city chiefs in the preseason he wasn't even flagged for so there just seems to be inconsistency but i guess for me we're always complaining that roger goodell has too much power roger goodell is wielding that power by being the judge the jury the person in charge of the sentencing the appellate court the executioner if you want to go down that route here there seems to be a willingness to meet in the middle at the end of the day jameis winston still has to wear this punishment he still has to wear you know his brand his reputation being tarnished even more he's going to have to wear what this might do to him from the standpoint of getting a contracting central from the tampa bay buccaneers his sign ability if if they ended up moving on from him his endorsement capability like this is a significant dent in his career it's just not six games and to me again jameis winston has not been convicted of anything he has not been criminally accused of anything i think it would've fed at roger goodell suspended jameis winston for six games the same people criticizing him or some of the same people criticizing him for reaching a compromise with james would have with james winston would have would have criticized roger goodell for being heavyhanded for handing down punishment that was too harsh for handing him six games when there is no criminal complaint so i could get dell did the right thing here i think the nfl did the right thing here and now the question is what's this going to do to jameis winston relationship with his current employer you wanna hear donald trump on nfl rate donald trump for whatever reason the president of the united states randomly mentioned nfl ratings he says look there's the anthem protests and the flag issue his words not mine but also that people are really enjoying watching cable tv news not national football league games you know when the nfl's down twenty percents it's the flag but it's also the fact that everybody's watching us on the different cable networks because frankly they find this more exciting than the nfl and a hell of a lot more dangerous right that was in fargo north dakota an arena packed with houses of president trump supporters i don't know if he's right or not and frankly i don't care the point being the nfl has bent over backwards to try to get the president to stop talking about it and guess what's not happening the president.

"The actor not anyone appeal and the reason why he's not going to appeal is because the nfl made a deal with jameis winston you don't fight this like tom brady fought the deflate gate suspension or you don't fight this like zeki ali had fought his own situation that was an act of massage any you don't fight these things and we'll give you a lighter sentence and can anyone explained to me by the way how the nfl got the three games the nfl is so wildly inconsistent when it comes to misogynistic axe ray rice two games oh a video comes out oh now we have to actually act like we care the national football league there's no way the nfl did not see that video before became public the giants kicker josh brown he only got one game there was the league official who had to pull his wife from the pro bowl because josh brown was acting like a jackass at an animal so i don't get out of the nfl comes to these conclusions and these penalties and they just make it up as they go and the nfl could tell you they care the nfl is could tell you they're trying to improve these problems with their pliers and some of their players that commit these terrible heinous acts but do they really care because if you thought jameis winston did touch the super driver why are you looking to settle with them you know you have the power you know you could suspend them for however many games you want to suspend him so why did you go soft here why did you only go three games because you gotta deal you got jameis winston who said he won't appeal anyone with this thing linger out so.

"Jameis winston of tampa bay buccaneers who let me put this in a way where i can't get in trouble most people in florida state university thought he raped a woman and got away with it because florida state university covered out covered up for him because he was the frequent quarterback jameis winston grabbed a woman's clutch sexual assault in my book tom brady was given a four game suspension for the fleeting football or having something to do with it jameis winston was given a three game suspension ladies what does the nfl telling you that they don't give a crap about women well that's what i think they're telling you you don't matter to us how do you give a three game suspension to somebody that arguably raped somebody in college and was covered up by the university and then does a little repetition of it and by the way jameis winston is now apologizing after saying they swear he didn't do it and they made up the story that other people were in the car and they vouched for him and they lied to and he only gets a three game suspension and i asked the question what the hell is a matter with the commissioner of the nfl roger goodell are you sick in the minds.

"The news jameis winston has been suspended by the league for three games you want to get when they continue this story one component we did not touch on yet what what does the sinoe when it come to you on this ronald darby his accounts of of the story how does this factor at when i think what we're trying to eliminate here is that in the process of the investigation at the nfl was interviewing multiple people that including winston and other people who were with him that night or even said that they are with him that includes eagles cornerback ronald darby now initially there was an account saying that jameis winston was in the back seat of this uber car with ronald darwin that he was never in the front and then later via report from outside the lines and other account had come from brandon banks saying that at some point yes jameis winston was in fact alone with the uber driver and then there's some additional context of that that there may have been multiple rides that night so in fact you know various things might be true but i think the underlying there is that ronald darby's account was beginning to fall apart in terms of what was actually true and what was not true so just the actual component one of not being truthful completely forthright and then i think in this statement you know that i'm also getting ready to read here in a second just failure to report in terms of notifying the league immediately and the notification coming to the league like eight months after the fact of when the actual incident occurred so just to be clear on this i was doing reporting on this last week spoke to a source on friday and with direct knowledge of this and ask the question with this brand of banks stuff coming out is ronald darby and some trouble was did he mislead the league or it's his account proving to be credible told unequivocally no ronald darby is not the subject subject of any kind of investigation you know he's an eyewitness ear so the sense i got from talking to people around around this situation was that yes maybe more than one ride so darby's account wasn't necessarily untrue if banks account is the league talks about having other evidence including telephone records electron devices you can track where uber goes you know and so you can you can tell where the driver was at specific times and not necessarily you know who she picked up but you can tell whether historic holds up in terms of those details so obviously an extensive investigation that the league leaned on a number of things including eyewitness testimony and other in quickly we do want to get adam schefter and on the conversation we have adam on the phone right now adam what more are you hearing about the winston suspension look i think that these were ongoing discussions and i think the nfl did not feel there was enough evidence to warrant a six game suspension onto the personal conduct policy and i think that they were in discussions for a four game suspension over the last couple of weeks that eventually got lower to three i don't wanna say it was a settlement because it wasn't a settlement but i think by james winston agreeing to accept the three games i think the nfl came off its number of four which should originally was planning spend came as winston forge means he will return at the missing games in new orleans and then.

"I absolutely get fooled constantly and i should be i should know better i should know better by now all this beautiful gray hair that just looks awesome by the way salt and pepper it's awesome all of it on my head was earned with that is supposed to mean wisdom and with me it means nothing but i'm on my way to being an old fool because as i read the details of why the nfl is reportedly about to suspend jameis winston for three games i'm a fool because once again i assumed that i knew jameis winston that i could look at his face heroes words see that smile here an interview and go you know what man that kids got his life straightened out he's doing the right things and the fact that it appears other people in the car with him we're lying on his behalf and by the way i believe there's an nfl player in that group and i believe there's an nfl player that may or may not play for my favorite team and i believe if i found out now on the nfl that saw that another player was in the car and potentially lied if that hypothetical situation came up i'd suspend that guy too so i ask you this morning you may suffer from it too i'm a fool and i'm a full i sob story i'm a fool for redemption and i actually believe that a leopard can change their spots and my mom my wife and others in my life for years have tried to tell me why do you keep giving people the benefit of the doubt you do nothing but make errors when you do i'm like aren't i suppose to isn't isn't that what i'm told a church but the more i do it the more i think i'm just flat out stupid i want to hear from you and if you can get in.

"Dot com today a lot of conversation we're having about jameis winston and we just talked to paula levine who is done a spectacular job of getting us more information it's crazy to me that we are getting more information still it's crazy to me that we are in a world where james winston was accused of assaulting in uber driver denied it it was almost two years what may of two thousand sixteen so year two years two years is taking two years to get to the point that we get a decision and what we find out last night is we're going to air is the the decision is a three game suspension not six which is what we would usually expect but a three game suspension and you you look at it on the heels of toronto today breaking news tonight toronto blue jays closer roberta owes suna was suspended without pay for seventy five games on friday for violating major league baseball joint domestic violence sexual assault and child abuse policy he's twenty three years old he was charged with assaulting a woman on may eighth and placed on administrative leave so may to two june baseball got to figure it out this yet again we have this arbitrary penalty that's coming out from the nfl after a half ass investigation i mean the the outside the lines guys do spectacular work spectacular investigative reporting work if you are the nfl and you know that you're going to drop a suspension on jameis winston you know you should know did that's going to create massive investigations from great reporters nfl has every single resource known to man and they simply chose not to use they simply chose not to use them that's the hard part for me to understand remember we just found out brandon banks was was the unnamed person in the car we now know that because of ot l brandon banks who's currently serving a prison sentence for sexual assault in nashville case i'm very familiar with because so much of that happened while i was living there and we find out that they reached out and he wouldn't talk to anybody from the nfl without an attorney present and then they just never followed up it's crazy to me because perspective and perception has changed so much and this is a good thing the the piece of the perception that has changed the most that is very very good is we as decidedly are no longer just going to accept you know this is the way guys act this way athletes are i mean honestly ask yourself this question if the kobe bryant case of two thousand three if that happened today would it be handled the same no it wouldn't if the ben rothlisberger case if that happened today been accused of sexual assault of that happened today would it be perceived the same no and you have to look at james winston and understand that he's a quarterback said this earlier and i cannot say this loud enough quarterbacks sell tickets quarterbacks so jerseys little kids wanna go see quarterbacks all right let's just be real if there was a meet and greet for your favorite team at the mall your favorite nfl team pick one if they're having a meet and greet at the mall and it's the five offense of linemen anybody owned the few people yet if they have that same meetandgreet same time same day same mall and it happens to be your starting quarterback lines down the street quarterbacks are held to a standard because they sell tickets and the the world where you know what you could be great and win games and that means you're going to get away with things not even get away with things but but but the fact that ben rothlisberger was accused of sexual assault twice once in two thousand nine and once in two thousand ten we don't even think about that kobe bryant's two thousand three case in colorado and sort of an afterthought the world's changed i mean nobody was sitting there saying that the steelers needed to cut ben but there's legitimate conversation happening from people that cover the buccaneers right now that it's time to to.

"Dot com that the winston camp is bracing for a suspension three games maybe as few as one game but cameron who i think is plugged in with the winston camp he was at the jameis winston draft party in alabama fifteen so he knows what's going on and he as he explains it the suspension chris is gonna come from the obligation under the personal conduct policy to report any potential violation because what happened was the driver made a complaint to uber back at the time it was jameson winstons account his account was blocked by uber so he was on notice at that point that something had happened and under the personal conduct policy even this goes against human nature being if you haven't been arrested if you haven't been sued but you're aware that somebody's accusing you doing something but you think you didn't do it you still have an obligation to tell the team and the team has obligation to tell the league because that didn't happen at the time that's the opening that the league may have to punish him regardless of whether the league concludes that he did it they can punish him for failing to disclose it and so the buccaneers may be without jameis winston to start the season and that could make it very difficult for the buccaneers to reverse a playoff drought that goes back more than a decade nfl i mean they're they're so fair and their judiciary system be honest i mean you know i mean yeah go me tell you so you can give me a fair trial and never hear my side of the story and we'll have an investigator who will actually side with me that you hire that you don't even talk to remember that that was the ezekiel elliott case right so again the nfl and this is the problem with the cba and this is going to be an ongoing problem with football players for as long as it lasts because players have three a three year average career they're not willing to strike and some of the bylaws of the cbi basically the nfl can find any reason they want to suspend you bottom line i'm not even gonna get into the case it's just weird and odd that were this is flown under the radar right all off season i'm not surprised now that i'm hearing it i did kind of forget about it when it came back up again but i mean it's hard as a player as an ex player if i was putting myself and jameis winston shoes or other players it's hard for me to trust the nfl right now and think that they're going to do the right thing whether you're guilty or not and you make a great point it's not just the human nature in that circumstance would be going to keep my head low in my mouth shut until i have to do something about it if i'm not sued if i'm not charged criminally i'm not saying anything to anyone about it and i'm just gonna act like everything's fine i'm gonna play it cool and hope that it all blows over i think that's the basic human nature reaction you throw on top of it the fact that the nfl has a reputation for administering justice via a kangaroo court you're even less likely to put your hand up and say hey mister with your arbitrary procedures and processes please make me the subject of this year's persecution of someone who maybe didn't do what he's accused of doing but won't have a chance to prove that he didn't do it so you've got a double whammy here of human nature number one you're inclined to let it blow over number two you're not inclined to voluntarily walk into arena where you know you're going to get screwed cases like this again jameis winston are they also going to play into into the case here you know prior things that have happened to him that all plays into it too so you know i don't know what to expect that would be a huge blow for the tampa bay buccaneers to not have have him out there for the first two three games there early schedule is scary i mean what that's about as tough as it gets those first three games and even going to chicago who's going to be a different football team this year and then at atlanta so this is a team that struggled last year.
