"Wonder is that i mean clearly you. Dairy as smith is not in optimum of optimum fitness right. Now i wonder. Is there anything that is a warning sign for this defense. Going forward peter. The warning sign was in january when they hire joe berry his previous track record is a defensive coordinator. Two years in detroit is defense is finished thirty. Two thirty two two years in washington is defense. Finished twenty eighth twenty eight now. You look at the talent that they had in those places. Nowhere near what they have here with. Scenario smith with preston smith with gyro zander. Maybe one of the best corners in the league that they have a playmaker at pretty much every level. Kenny clark over. The better nose tackles in the league. So joe berry's certainly has a lot more talent to work with plus matlin floor hired for what one reason because he worked with the brand staley which is the vic fangio defense. But i'll tell you what it didn't look a whole lot different from the dom capers three four and then the mike patton three four after that and to me. That's you know the the question mark again was joel berry going to be any better than joe berry was in previous places and isn't going to be any better than capers pet more and at this point again one game. It's not slip. The panic switch but at this point the answer is no no difference that we've seen in our remaining time rob. Let's spend a couple of minutes of bow on. Rogers an-and rogers future my impression after spending just a few minutes with them in august is that he is going to be open to whatever happens in the future. We'll see what happens that he hasn't made any firm decision. Who knows where he's leaning. I'm sure he has some lean but that he is going to spend this year basically with his feet on the ground where he is. He's not going to be thinking about twenty twenty two or at the very least he's not going to talk about what he's thinking about in twenty twenty two. What do you get. You know better than almost anybody in the media right now. So what re do you get on rogers both this year and going forward inner. I'll take it back to a conversation. I had with him in early. April was right. As his jeopardy guest host stint was was happening and we spoke for about twenty five minutes about that and then for about five minutes. We sort of talked around the idea of no. Why didn't they do anything with his contract this offseason. Why didn't they do anything with his contract when he was marching his way to another. Mvp last year. When i hung up the phone with him that day i said to myself. Wow this is going to be his last year in green bay now about a week or two later adam. Schefter.

"He got one of the assistant equipment managers to go out before and after every practice and during training camp. And now he's continuing into the season working on different drills. Not only the jugs machine but in catching tennis balls one handed. And if you see this if you see his touchdown in this game he's closely covered in the left corner of the end zone and the steelers need this play. They need this score to make their offense. Come alive levi. Wallace tips the ball. And at that moment instead of just sort of giving up on the ball you could see that deontay johnson extended both arms and somehow some way came up with the ball and dragged one foot to make sure that he stayed in bounds to me. It was one of the great plays of week one of this season and it was made by guy who spent all of last year in the doghouse because of all his drops going a little more macro on that win. Peter and i. I know i spent a lot of time around college football. I don't wanna make to collegiate. But that was a meaningful type of win for the steelers. Not just getting off to one star but many people the big bad steelers picking pittsburgh to finish bottom half of the afc north. You go to the team. That's very popular pick for very good reason to represent the afc in the super bowl and you come from behind and do that with that kind of second half. I mean that's that's not your ordinary win. I know these are grownups. These are professionals who are paid to win every sunday. But i have to think that they walk back into that facility this week with a different kind of feel different kinds of confidence then a lot of the other teams who are also wanna know agree totally and and it was really an interesting week for the afc north bengals with unlikely win over the vikings. And you know it really stuck out to me is look. Cleveland is a very good team. Cleveland is a top ten team in the nfl right now. But in the last twelve minutes of their game against the kansas city chiefs they went from maybe not controlling the game total but but being in the lead and having a good chance to win and then two plays happen. The punter drops an incredibly easy..

"One. My name is Zach shambler. I will be right back. Oh, right we are back hope we're doing very, very well. Let's now jump into the second game of watch this weekend. It was a phenomenal game. The chiefs just beat the browns 33 to 29. And it was a great game. The crowd in Kansas City was phenomenal. I didn't realize how much I missed having really passionate fund excited live crowds in the NFL. It was like a sea of red chanting, oh. Dude, I love that. Even through the TV, it's just so cool to hear and I really, really miss that side of the NFL. Now, I want to start today by giving credit to Kansas City's quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He was put in a tough spot yesterday. Basically, they had three rookie offensive linemen starting. They had center creed Humphrey, right guard, Trey Smith, and then right tackle Lucas niang was actually drafted last year in 2020. But he opted out. So the result was that Kansas City had three starting offensive linemen who had never played a down in the NFL before. And they were playing against the Cleveland Browns. The browns have a really, really good defensive line. Two former number one overall picks to deviant Clowney, and then the headline guy, miles Garrett who's a fantastic defensive end. And they got pressure on Patrick Mahomes early and often. They was running around for his life. Now the key was, they could not bring him down. And I can not understate the impact of having Patrick Mahomes as your quarterback. He's the best quarterback in the NFL, buy a mile. His ability to extend plays and survive with a bad offensive line is just ridiculous to me. I think I often don't give enough credit actually. And he makes throws that other guys wouldn't even attempt. I mean, again, predictions for Kansas City. I talked about how I'm concerned about their offensive line..

"The ones that you don't make. Yesterday we saw a calculated and patient Jameis Winston. I really believe that working with head coach Sean Payton in New Orleans is making him a better quarterback. And I'd love to see that mandate, potential here in New Orleans is unbelievable. What he can do? I mean, Jameis adds an element to this football team, and this offense, the Drew Brees just couldn't do last year. James had a he launched a depot 55 yards to the under Harris for a long touch, and I'm like , hey, I don't think I saw Drew Brees here that one time last year. James throwing 5 touchdowns is even crazier when you realize this fact. Most of the receivers that he was throwing to against Green Bay were undrafted. Only one receiver on the saints active roster against Green Bay was drafted. By the way, it's kind of weird. It was time Montgomery. He got drafted by the Green Bay Packers. He only got one pass for 5 yards. Every other guy was brought in as an undrafted free agent. The point is that Jameis Winston did that and 5 touchdown passes against the packers won their division went to the NFC title game last year. James had 5 touches on passes with basically undrafted receivers and didn't even have his best guy. Right now, Michael Thomas are best receiver is out with injury. He's coming back at some point. I feel really good and really excited by Jameis Winston. So another thing that's impressive about the saints season openers when you realize that the city was just decimated by hurricane Irma. The team currently is operating out of Dallas, they're living in hotel rooms, their families are out of school and they all got moved. That's another big story here is overcoming adversity. kind of reminds me a bit of when the saints were kind of trying to recover in the city of New Orleans is trying to recover from Hurricane Katrina. And the saints had a good year..

"Now that didn't matter to their quarterback Russell wasn't Russell Wilson said, I got to make this work. I got to figure it out. I want to win. And my point is, Russell Wilson beat a better football team. The Indianapolis Colts. And Patrick Mahomes beat a really good loaded Cleveland Browns team with a struggling offensive line a really good defensive line he was playing against. These are two Hall of Fame quarterbacks. Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson. And if you want to win with those guys, all you got to do is get your team good enough, make it close, and then they will do the work from there. They will elevate your football team and you will win. And then I encourage you, go look at the scores from week one of the NFL season. It's unbelievable. There's an outlier, the falcons game. I think Matt Ryan's a great quarterback. I haven't watched the game yet Jalen hurts. I heard played really, really well. Is Jalen hurts a better quarterback than Matt? I don't know the answer to it. It's possible. And I think the Broncos, giants gamete, teddy Bridgewater is better than Daniel Jones, but that's another one that's called same with Sam darnold and Zach Wilson. But if you look across the board at the NFL, the better quarterback won this week and every single game. It's unbelievable. You're like, wow, wow. If you said, hey, which team has a better quarterback? That team won. Every single time this week in the NFL. And so I think sometimes I overcomplicated. I go deep in the weeds, but this guy and that guy, it's like, wow. Is the quarterback good enough to elevate his team? Sometimes that's the question you have to ask and that's the only question you have to ask. And I would ask yourself if you're a football fan and you have a favorite team. Then ask yourself, can my teams quarterback elevate my team? Because I watch Joe burrow just elevate the Cincinnati Bengals, they beat Minnesota in overtime. Russell Wilson did it Patrick Mahomes did it. Tyler Murray had 5 touchdowns against Tennessee. When is Daniel Jones ever thrown for four and ran for one and dominated another football team? I've never seen that from Daniel Jones, and I'm still waiting. And that's why Aaron Rodgers has been.
New Orleans Saints to Use Interim Facility for First Month of Season
"The new orleans saints have picked their starting quarterback jameis winston. Jeff duncan covering the team new orleans times. Picayune sports columnist. Let me start with that season opener given the weather and we still have some time. Here is their contingency plans. If the saints can't host the packers that opening weekend jeff dan. They're working on that right now. I mean the situation is so fluid as you can imagine in new orleans. The power outages catastrophic. The entire city is still out of power. And so there's so many other priorities right now in the city beyond the football game and we stopped the sean payton this morning. Big look like the saints are going to set up shop in the dallas fort worth area. Absurd least the next month or so and he mentioned that they'd even looked into possibly playing their home games over in dallas and. At and t. stadium. I think that's one of the ideas they're not going around with. There's so many moving parts here other trying to make roster cuts today get players out of there and they got families members all in the hotel move hotel so it's a it's a crazy situation very unprecedent.

"That's bold. you also got a lot of backlash for your colts pick. But i didn't see anything wrong with your colts back. Neither gary nor i objected to people actually pick because it was to lower too high too low and also the mechanism by which we got there. Which so let's let kind of let everybody in a little bit on the secret sauce. Here i picked this thing by putting down tally. So i had each team on a piece of paper. And then it w and l. And i went through the schedule and i tallied all the things because i didn't wanna look at the record until afterwards and it didn't want it to influence anything but then i got it done wrote. Everything turned it in editor. Mitch says change of plans. We need every single game game by gain and so then you have to go back a second time and and try to remember which wins and losses and then basically we had race the whole thing and then go back and do it from the beginning and so. I don't know if i realized that the colts were going to lose those first. Five games I don't know if i had them down. But that's just kinda of how. I made the ten and seven work eventually like sometimes we had to fit stuff together because the afc records were already printed in the magazine. And so you know. Have to kind of like Wiggle them in a little bit. And but i still believe that like that first. Five games They're brutal Can pull it up right here but like yes so with or without carson wentz you have the seahawks the rams at the titans at the dolphins at the ravens. That's a tough. I five games. You know and it's a good team but You know. I think that there's an argument to be made that they could lose all those games. Yeah i mean i look. I think they're like eleven at six i. I didn't get worked up over a ten and seven prediction for colts though with the carson wentz question mark young so i i thought it was good. I thought you were going to object to forty niners jenny so i i did I i prepared for that On the on the last one. I just think i think we're going to get a tray lance package that we haven't seen it's going to be hard to defend and i think it's going to be second half of the year really fun. That'd be my That's my estimation and one more quick story speaking of the forty niners. So ray ratto is a writer based in the bay area has a radio show They had me on last night to talk about my four hours prediction. And he said Why do you do this. But it in a way that like i think got to the heart of it. Which is the this is a stupid thing to do. And i said well you know you try to do this. And then he said Have you ever done this successfully. Because i'm trying to figure out like who are you and why you doing and so it really put me into my place made me feel pretty good in general about everything and You know but we'll see we got three teams dead on last year. Another four teams within one game of the record. And then i think another couple within two so i feel pretty good about it. He needs to get more acquainted with the per. Agnostic kantor o. We'll see you know this could be you know oracle's have ups and downs just like everybody else all right well. We've got our official predictions coming next week..

"Is it by singing. I need to also correct myself a few minutes ago. I was like it can often be connor me against gary but really. It's just the two of you laughing at jokes that i don't get here staring off into the abyss. I don't know what i was saying. In any event humor. I did lodging objection to the bills at twelve and five. I don't think they'll win. Twelve games. I like this right off the bat. Yeah see mine okay. And also i mean shelby roisin. Our producer had the law and order dungdung lined up there so few well done shelby is always at the ready with clever sound effects. I i agree with you jenny. I you know they're so here's it's interesting like there is such an element of fear in not picking the bills to win the afc east. That like i was like not bullied. But like you know you know bothered throughout the season by this. And so i was just like you know what here. Here's the thing. But i. I have the new england patriots at eleven and six as sort of a way at like. It's sort of hidden cry for help like i. I really believe in new. But i'm scared of these people over. What a statement though to say that you felt compelled are scared not to pick the bills. When the afc fcat's that is quite a statement in connor would not have been said since the late nineties mid nineties when early nineties. I'm really dates here early. Nineties correct me all right. I spent some time doing some various You know market Radio interviews when this thing came out. Because everyone's like oh you're wrong. Let's have you on the show and Spent so much time trying to validate the process. Where like you know someone for example was like how could you possibly have the forty niners losing to the vikings and i said well good question because the vikings play another team that runs the same system as them twice a year and they upgraded. Their defensive tackles which is one way to slow down the outside zone like oh we didn't know that much thought went into it. Yes however i also just really scared of bills fans and like so. This is the blend right there is. There is some science here and then there is some just real Visceral fear and so you know you combine the two of those and that is the the the secret big. Mac sauce all right. Shall we continue. Yeah let's go. So we have a patriots at eleven six and second-place dolphins at nine and eight in third place and the jets at five and twelve in fourth. And that was before the loss an injury so you know maybe some downward flexibility there In the afc The future Super bowl contending. Cleveland browns in first place at twelve and five ravens. I'll log the objection. I don't feel good about it. But i don't think there. i think. The browns are missing.

"You can manage that you hope that maybe with the full off-season traditional training camp Maybe some that got coach out of them. But we hear all the stuff about like. Oh this you know quarterback academy and and he's come along so well and and then he goes out there and it's one throw but it's the same mistake we saw just a thousand times in tampa. Yeah and i think the vision of the field coaches often say is one of the hardest things to fix or at least. It's the thing that drives coaches to the breaking point with a quarterback. You often hear what their vision is terrible. We can't fix it like it's over like whenever a team gets to a breaking point with a quarterback and decided to go in another direction that is often a factor and certainly you know it was a factor in tampo now. Of course they moved onto. Tom brady so you could say that. Didn't work out. what they've stayed with. James i don't know but i think if they did stay with jameson hadn't gotten brady. I think they would have the same reservations of like but we can't fix this thing. That is essential to your job. So i don't know maybe it's fixed. Maybe it's not but there seems to be a disproportionate amount of optimism and new orleans. I don't know. I was watching the game with my mom and she goes. But didn't this guy already happened and i guess bomb. He said exactly a very long chance longer than most people every chance. I wasn't good. I will say that if we all harken back to our division preview from a couple of weeks ago someone is feeling very good about his. Ian book x factor. Mentions there in book got a little. Bit of pop. On tv sean. Payton may be stacking him up as his hidden sort of tom brady for when this inevitably explodes but yeah i mean to journeys point. You can't complete an extremely important function of the job. Like seeing people in front of the people that you're supposed to be throwing two or anticipating that you you can't be a quarterback and you know this is coming from somebody who is a terrible grammarian still manages to collect a paycheck as a writer as our editor. Mitch knows but You know i'm an outlier. And i don't think that jameson necessarily in that same boat there. Yeah i think. There's a know i i've seen the argument like well. Look at ryan. Tannehill his turnaround in tennessee. I think the titans offense is much different than what tannehill was asked to do in miami and not to mention just super quarterback friendly and not that sean payton offenses not quarterback friendly but it just. It doesn't address the issue that jameis winston has had and again. Maybe maybe it. Maybe this is it. Maybe having this off season is what will ultimately make it work and we will see jameis winston who has plenty of physical tools to work with ear. End up working out here but I i don't know and again we're not prote- som and i'm not going to Jump on on this this. I don't know fascinating. Take that's been thrown around that. Some is is somehow the equivalent lamar jackson. But you can argue. You could build a poor. Man's lamar jackson type offense around tease him hill. He's he's a different kind of reiner. I lamar is much more dangerous..

"Hill pod necessarily corrupt But it it. It felt very cold to me the entire situation. Shocking with sean payton involved. But just watching the whole thing. Unfold on monday night and listening to louis riddick. Brian greasy talk about it and they were basically inferring that throughout the week during the production meetings. Tatum hill was increasingly frustrated. Seem to have Acknowledged the fact that he was falling behind in this job. And sean payton kept telling the broadcast crew and tastes hill. That like you're just too valuable just the way you are and you know that kept being the sign is like i can't sacrifice you as a quarterback because i need you all these other places and so they just kept repeating it and repeating that to the point where i was like. What are we doing here. Then what's the. What was the point of all this. Was this ever a competition did he. You know and was james just so bad that they had to keep saying it was a competition until there was one day when sean payton could like slam the table mic okay. Now it's over. He acted like a quarterback finally. Well that's the thing. There's definitely a practicality to saying okay. Well we can use taste him on this other role whereas jameis winston if he's number two quarterback he's just you know he's going to be on the sideline the entire game so there's that but just looking at it again purely from what these guys have put on film in you know. We saw james for years in tampa he had very limited number of snap said he took last year but I've written about this play. I will probably write about it again. Before the season starts he played that one half against the forty niners at home when drew brees originally got hurt. And he was protecting a two touchdown lead and he threw the most jamesy dangerous mistake throw and bounced off jimi wards chest basically but the issue with james and. We heard all this stuff about like. Oh you know. He had the lisa surgery now so now he has now he has. I don't know x ray vision. Something like that. To whatever that was being termed as he doesn't have to squint anymore like george costanza spotting the spotting the the squirrels and seinfeld but yet he just makes these mistakes that are i don't know i don't know how you can justify him. It's it's not it's not misreads. it's not trap coverages. That are fooling him. He is just simply like not seeing full grown men on the second level of the defense and just putting the ball endanger again and again and again and again. And i'm not quite sure how.

Rose got some to bow sham back. Lers office what do you want to talk to you about some. I was doing or saying you know what about wearing my jersey backwards. Actually one of the way your jersey backwards in college practice jersey. I used to practice. Jersey turned around backwards and nice to wear number forty three because the size bigger chew armor. The power forward center is a bigger jersey bigger shorts so i wanted to vegas shorts. He didn't mind his being tight. So i kind of switched with him. I got that one. I i did that when i got there. When you look at any of the five five footage. I'm wearing number forty three in practice with a jersey backwards. That was doing a criss cross time and all of that. This was his style.

"Say you're at least nine and seven but it was seven and nine because you kept giving the football away. let's just say for the sake of argument skip. instead of thirty seven a turnovers. he has eighteen. Yeah their playoff team. 'cause they didn't add anybody other than tom brady. Everybody that's all. That team came back for the previous year in chris. Godwin mike evans. They add okay. They added wrong but that was a playoff team. If he doesn't turn the ball over. All tom brady will come in. And like you know what he threw more touchdown but he didn't even come close to the turnovers and that was the difference. That's the difference in winning and losing his leaks there. The by berry tiny margin tiny talented. Everybody meets everybody got outstanding coaches. You turn the ball over there to fail. You get beat okay. I'm surprised that sean payton hasn't embraced the opportunity to turn jameis winston into a mobile quarterback. He has pro bowl abilities roaming. That's why i say. I mean but to make him a perennial right right. Where were you could be a perennial playoff team. He's not gonna be able to put up the listen drew. Brees is just right. You can't you can't compete with that. But is he strong enough mentally to at least step into the void and survive and thrive. I believe especially if sean payton buys completely in. Because i'm not sure there's a better play. Call than sean payton. I'm not sure. There's a better quarterback maker. Then sean payton so. Wouldn't it be a match made in heaven where you have a guy who just needs to get clean up right like if you can just take the garbage out of his system if you can take away all the bad ideas just start to clean those up and cut them in half. Then you've got big talent right right. I'm looking at the numbers. You put up in the years in tampa. And he threw one hundred. Twenty one touchdown passes eight interceptions. We'll let still pretty great. Yeah it's hard to. It's hard to find that it's hard to find that kind of an arm that ability throw that many touchdowns rises so the point is. I'm surprised sean. Just hasn't embraced like. Hey i've got a guy here. I've got a guy who's big talent but you said you open and but was is there. I got a guy nobody else wanted. Because what did i say i jameis. Winston was the number one overall pick. He was looking for fifty two hundred yard so he already got their got cut several times. Everybody said you can't play that position. Yeah i did with it. Yeah okay you can still do some of that with him as you pointed out because james has no cachet right now. James is going to be happy to have the starting. Yeah like he said after the game last night is been so long. Since i started a foot run really. It's that long so he he can't demand or commanding if you bring back in your tastes them hill packages that i couldn't believe drew brees would sit still for. He did yes. We're occasionally you split out. Jamison hawaii al tasting pops into the holiday and all of a sudden. He's the quarterback or maybe he's the tight end or maybe he's the running back or who knows you can do so many things with him because he runs four four right like he he can really run yes and he can run over people and he can do. E- can catch the foot by. That was tvos. Problem was never caught a pass in his life. If this kid can catch passes absolute auto. You're talking about swiss army knife that can just cut you to pieces right. Why wouldn't you just just re and and back putting back in that package because we saw four games..

"Max your up. I this concern you yes it does. I mean look. I don't like preseason period. I wish they'd get. Because the only thing i care about in preseason his please get hurt on my team right anyway. I want to get him. And so the fact that he's not playing reduces it minimizes injury risk. And if you ask me. Do i want more ready to play or do i want to make sure that leg is healthy because we saw pretty solid mid pack quarterback even behind an awful offense line with no saquon last year. Then he hurt his leg and he was awful. He was terrible right. I'd rather have him healthy. The thing that bothers me. Most though from what. I've seen with the giants so far as i was picking them to win the division. I'm not moving off it yet. But i just assume over time the offensive line will improve has not looked like it. Has you know it was picking who to win the division. What do the giants are the second best team in the division and the second best defensive team and so while. they're not as good offensively as the cowboys. They're much better defensively. Same thing on the other side with washington. But i thought they'd be better off the offensive line. Still doesn't look fixed. it's still like really bad. And that's going to hurt saquon which is going to hurt daniel jones and also makes me think it increases injury risk during the preseason so so where i come out on it is i wish they had fixed the offensive line. They didn't but my main concern is daniel. Jones is health. So it's not the end of the world that he didn't play a lot in the preseason. Now i'll tell you this before we came in here. And i read this and i kept reading over and over again. It bothered me. Because i kept asking myself. These questions is daniel jones or starr. Nfl no it has daniel. Jones earned a stripes to not playing a preseason. No has he ever made a pro bowl. No but i'll tell you two things that made me think why joe judge has not played daniel jones in a preseason right and number one mex- they have these joint practices. Now where they're basically like. Having two extra games but without tackling. And i can only assume that gioja just saying okay. I'll actually valid chick right now. I like what i've seen from daniel jones in these joint practices so he doesn't have to go out there and preseason number two. You mentioned the offense alon. They were second last year in sacks allowed with fifty only with houston and. I can't remember the other team right. The washington football team right. So why am i gonna put daniel jones out there with his office alive and i'll say to add to that. There aren't timid. Golladay is not out there. Playing these stars are not. they're playing. I'm thinking my mind joe. Judge doesn't want to shoot his confidence before the season starts. So that's why. I stand on this but emma m fan of it. No because i feel like daniel jones. Those reps right. He's losing time to get better as a human being. But i do understand certain side of it from jojoy joe judges. I brought up during during the draft. And dan orlovsky and stephen a boy they jumped all over me. I wanted the giants to grab one of the start like if justin fields fell right. Grab him and my point. Was you have competition and daniel jones. Maybe not yet. Let's see if justin feels really is great but the difference between daniel jones and justin fields. Is i think daniel jones has the potential to be a good nfl quarterback. I do not see greatness in just in fields. He might be a great. Nfl quarterback that's the difference. The giants are taking a guy who might be good investing years of time in developing him. Not protecting them with an offensive line. That's the real concerning part all right. Let's talk nfc sleepers europe. I hear harry nfc sleepers molly. You're probably waiting on this. I'm going to cowboys. I'm gonna go with the cowboys. Because i'm not worried about the cowboys. Offense you america's team what i've said you. We mean by sleep. He the cowboys can make. Hey we're in the last the last time the cowboys pls. When the last time the cowboys had been relevant always relevant because they will molly in a football sense on the field. When the last time i've hear about it's going to be there years the same old same all right so i'm gonna go with the cowboys because i believe in their offense but i'm gonna take it a step deeper. Dan queens new defensive coordinator dan. Quinn has learned from his mistakes in atlanta. I'll think the cowboys can go far right. And when i'll say his mistakes when he was in seattle he had a front four right. He had a defensive line. you didn't have the blitz in atlanta. You didn't have those guys. But outside of grady jerry. So what did he do. He continued to send for tommasi sent three. I had no idea what he was doing that. But teams carved up atlanta defense now the learning curve. That is okay. If your system isn't working you have to innovate. You have to adapt you have to plan b. c. and d. right if dan quinn can do that in dallas. Because i don't think they have that d. line right now like he did in seattle. But you want to know the strongpoint. These defense the linebackers. If you can utilize these guys send these guys. On bliss let these guys with off the edge and wreak havoc and just create chaos. I think dallas cowboys jumping. Can i just follow up and ask him wanting so when we were talking about dan recently. I said the same thing about what he did with the legion of boom etc. And i forgot who was the analyst and they flipped back at me and said well. Anybody could have done that with the legion of boom and those players so that doesn't prove that he's a top notch defensive coordinator. He just had a ton of talent. Well i can agree to a certain point. Because when he when he was in atlanta right. Dan quinn didn't have the guys that he had in seattle so he had to change up his defense. You can't just sit there and sit there. The defense be a sitting duck. Inlet office coordinators and quarterbacks pick you apart that's what he did not do we seen that when he lost his job and roy. Moore's became a the head coach in uber. Who's a dc in with the jets. Now when they took over we seen a different defense. We see them. Started getting pressure on the quarterback because they were blitzer linebackers they were blitzing. Gazan a secondary. They got innovative. They were doing things that they probably wanted to do. But dan quinn. Didn't sign off all of that. So i'm just hoping he's learned from his mistakes in atlanta it can bring this dallas defense to life. You gotta be hoping though. We don't know we don't know who he. I only live about a hope theory. Theory here the sleeper in the nfc me is arizona cardinals and they are in the most division in football agree by the way one of the most brutal divisions. I've ever i can remember in football like all four teams to me finish first or last. I wouldn't be shocked but zona could finish to win that division. Probably not but but i learned murray before the shoulder injury when they were running a lot was on and after he got hurt they stopped wanting them as much right because this he's exposed to dangerous and they fell off and he stopped rolling the balls effectively because he had shoulder injury right. Who's coming back for arizona this year on defense they bring in shay. J. watt low. Now it ain't j. J. watt from the old days and one of the three or four front seven players. I'd ever seen like all time great. Inner sanctum of the hall of fame. Great defensive player so he's falling off but he got a long way to fall. And at this point he's still better than most everybody really good chandler jones handler. Josie didn't play much last year. Chandler jones coming back you just added. Jj watt n chandler jones and. Now kyle shoulder isn't hurt. Who else did they add on office. Aj green aj. Green to the andre hopkins. I'm just saying this team there. This team could win. The nfc west could happen. And i go in with the west is breaking. make the playoffs. But they're not gonna hear you. I hear you. But i could say the same thing about the rams without camakers i could say the same thing with san francisco. Jimmy gets hurt and freelance and ready. I can say the same thing about seattle without a defense. You wanna know you have to just about anyone. But here's the difference those teams that you that you just name have been consistent doing it. Yup having went in arizona trajectory right. They've done it longer. So you have more trust in them. I'm just looking at right now. They took that arizona team. Said here's. jj watt chandler. Jones got big names. We've got to see if they can still do but if we were going to say. Nfc east. i would've probably said washington. Because i still don't think you could say cowboys can be asleep. Chase young defense. They might be able to do something..

"Going to until you had a little bit. The the bottom line of this whole situation is that carson wentz need to get out his phyllis. This game has no place for your feelings. I had a receiver coast. Told me that when i first got into lead this game cares about your feelings. Mana and play the game of football. No one cares about till feelings in this league and into costs with understands that he's going to be in these situations tom at the time team at the team. It doesn't matter where he goes get. That's that's the bottom line to me. Marquess paradise a beautiful statement. That's a beautiful statement and to respond to you molly about the carson wentz and needs to be built up. Bruce areas curse. Tom brady seven times last year. Because if you play like every everybody needs the bad cop of staff that's a part of football organizations you need guys let's go forth carson wentz to say hey man throw the ball away and don't go get hit in. The knees are get rid of the football. I trust the things that we telling you on the football field. Trust these plays all. I'm talking about all of the things that came up outside of em- playing bad in philly that came up about how his attitude was and how he responded to criticism that was a part of why carson wentz took a lot of heat in philly. Yeah we all acknowledge that everything wasn't great around him but the way he handled it. I was talking about this morning. Get up with trevor lawrence his performance with the jacksonville jaguars last night. You know. I respect about trump lawrence even though he was under all at the risks. He said it's me. I need to do better. I gotta get the ball out of my hands. We gotta start clicking offensively. Those are the things that i was looking for from carson wins so yes he needs to be built up he needs to be around got it believes in him but he also needs to tell them the truth and that's the point areas making a point that makes is making an melissa great to go get those right now. Absolutely listen. i grew up on tough love. I had the strictest father there was. I couldn't sleep in on the weekends. I could go on and on all these things. So that's how. I get time on the records some these now. I don't but some people don't always respond when the confidence broken but we will carry on because this is not about me. Max you're up. I give me your top. Afc sleeper team. Because i think you you mentioned it harry the. Afc is gone a lot better. Actually the chargers. I think the chargers i can't say the patriots anymore because they're not getting slept on anymore so that a couple of weeks ago. I didn't hear a lot of people saying it now. Everyone's saying it. I won't say the dolphins. I think it's the same thing. It's very dependent if it was good. Dolphins it'd be really good put. The chargers chargers could win double digits right season. The chargers had one of the worst coaches in the nfl. Last you're just look at the results. They switched that they have a guy who seems to know something about defense right now. They built up their offensive line. They had among the worst offensive lines in the nfl last year. And you know we could go on about skills positions and this and that they have a quarterback who's different. The chargers quarterback is different. You know there are two different kinds of quarterbacks with apologies to josh allen and some other very very good quarterback i'm talking about different. That's patrick mahomes and aaron rodgers. And i'm not saying justin. Herbert will be one of those guys. Sorry just be one of those guys. But i think he's gonna. I don't think anyone else will be in his category either like he might be three out of those third out of those free and when you have a quarterback like that who just had arguably the greatest rookie season ever i mean. It's on a short list in the history of the nfl at quarterback with a team like the chargers who has a lot of weapons and looks like they've improved. I gotta say we're sleeping on. This could be a double digit win team. Especially in a seventeen game schedule season molly. I'll go in the same division the afc west. But i'm gonna go with the denver broncos when i look at the denver broncos. They're defenses stack right. They have a super bowl defense right now. When i looked at the schedule these this team law six games by total twenty four points. You want to know the only knock on this team is max and slagle quarterback position drew lock. That's one i'm they brought teddy bridgewater in to compete for this job to see if he can get team afloat. Will you look at the denver broncos. They have players all over the place. Offensively defensively knotty. Just gotta get it together. The quarterback position and that's a position that the denver broncos has not get on. I say for the last what seven eight years. That's that's what's missing last year. I didn't believe in drew lock because there's a lot of times out there and they're football field when i watched film drew lock. He's not doing with the coverage has telling him the gold the football right so i see tight. End haven't been able to develop a quarterback in denver age-old story i see a wide receiver getting upset. But if they can fix the quarterback position i think the denver broncos can have an opportunity to fix it next year with aaron rodgers. And that was the best. Rogers go their best broncos contender. Well best of luck to him cause damage named fixing there with teddy bridgewater and drew lock. Listen the sleeper and afc whoever disrespecting this the pittsburgh steelers. i don't understand why the steelers are team. That's going to be left for dead. Big ben ain't done obviously we. We look at play in this preseason but also is understanding. I want to see more matt. Canada's office the bill. I like big being being under center a little bit more. Now was a pickup. I do believe this offensive line is going to be better. Because i give mike tomlin benefit of the doubt the coast that win a them mason rudolph starting at quarterback and doug hodges and then when we started talking about teams that have a history of being really good in this spike of things that are happening around them. The pittsburgh steelers a squarely in the center of that and not to mention this defense might be the number one defense when it's all in the league or they'll be in that conversation with the tampa bay buccaneers and everybody else up there up here and barrage sleep on the pittsburgh steelers. Love cleveland. love baltimore. The pittsburgh steelers will not go silently into the night and be a rather burger is not done. He's good enough to be supported by good team to make noise in the nfl. It ain't damn denver broncos and the chargers ain't no sleeper because the chargers are going to be really good under staley and listen the dribble about verse smelling ale. hold on only wisdom. Am twelve games. That's fair max and brandon. Staley everything people are saying about the steele. So i'm the only one who picked a sleeper. No i think you all did. "It was turning the ball over the fourth quarter on third down. There were lucky to recover the ball. He was barely beating awful. Nfc east and every other nfc east quarterback was having better luck against the rest of the division than he wasn't. They were all backups. In rookies terrible. Right he was completely overrated. That you're and the downward slide already started. And then the next year continued because everyone else everyone apparently except for me was enabling him with all. He's doing great great great until he lost his job. Not even a starter anymore. Right now how did he have that success. Everyone looks at the colts. And they go. Well frank reich stare and that's where he had a success no doubt no doubt. He had success with frank. Right and the colts. Let's see how these young pass rushers. They drafted like a quickie pay and everything. If they pan out the colts are going to be a whole lot of no question and carson wentz can get better with right from everything. I hear out of philly. Frank reich played good cop who play bad cop def- lippo that's the guy who's not there and let me tell you what carson wentz needs more than anything is bad cop. He has too many people because he's very tough course. What's a tough dude. I saw him on one leg play through an injury. Anyone else it'd be in the hospital. He's he he completed two passes in la that day. I was there at the coliseum until they took him off the field right off his nails. Never questioning that big arm talent to make plays that. Maybe five or six other quarterbacks in the league can make but he's had enough in terms of his development of people telling them how greedy is he needs someone to play bad cop. That guy to my knowledge is not in indianapolis. I think he will bounce. Back as a result of everything that everyone knows about the colts and frank reich but i don't think he's bouncing back to an mvp caliber player. I'll give them one playoff win as a ceiling. max. I agree with a lot. What you said especially the diva lebow comment. But i think it's more than one playoff game 'cause this team is already good and carson wentz has played better or at the level that philip rivers played and they have a chance to beat the buffalo bills in a playoff game. Listen i'm optimistic. But i'm scared as hail. I gotta be honest. Because i don't know if it's about archer wins just going to frank reich. And now he's boy to all of a sudden. Become a great quarterback. I know he's surrounded by better team. I know he supported by really good offensive line. I know he has run game that he can lean on all of those things trend in the right direction of course of at least bouncing back to a point where the good football team that they can win games in spite of him. And that's what we that. That is what i'm hanging my head on. Winces returns the mvp form if he plays at a high level is a top tier guy. This team is squarely in the center of being in the conversation when the playoffs the titans got better. They sound julio. You hope that the defendant is going to show a better but carson wentz and this is why i've been saying this since this trae was made. He is under the most pressure of any player in a fail. Anne frank reich is under more president any coach in the nfl outside of some mcveigh. Who got matt stafford. Who plan is to win the super bowl but when you look at this situation i'm focused on carson wentz. If he can be a better quarterback. I don't give a damn about all these feelings about him and freight right comb and he be in a better situation and it's going to be right because he went to coats that lights him the most carson wentz gotta go out and play well and play at a level enough to hold with the rest of the indianapolis colts. Football team did last year with philip rivers. Who was good enough to go beyond one game in the playoffs. So listen i get it that carson wentz with his guy and i get it that everybody is optimistic i understand why because we saw carson wentz to your point max play at a very high level in this league. Mvp level but the bottom line is this man carson. Wentz is going to be the reason. The indianapolis colts are good. I didn't go far in. the playoffs. Are bad and that is the most pressure in the nfl. So i think feeling this beyond one playoff game if he can play at a top tier level because of what he surrounded with. If he plays below that all the blame will be given the carson winston frank right. I'm glad you said that markets that's one of the things. I have to agree with you right. In the question is the ceiling for the colts with wentz healthy. Right a for the for the coast winces healthy. They're already good football team. But can he be a great quarterback. Can't he be that. God leads to him to i say. Afc south championship. Which is highly unlikely. Because you have the tennessee titans right but then when you look at everybody else on the complete defense right but but but tech this up. The titans will play defense this year to trust me. They added some pieces. But when you look at the overall pitcher. The afc is much tougher this year. You have more teams to compete right. So if carson wentz is just decent. This team is not going anywhere. they're just going to go to the first round. It's going to be it but if carson wentz can be great and carry this football team in the fashion that i think he can probably do. I say think. Because i just don't know because i don't know where he's was mentally is right now then i think they could be good. He has a better roster. Didn't he had in philly. He has a defense any. He hasn't philly he has a better offense allot any head and he has a running backs any headed film. And then you look at the skill position players eddie has so the question is can carson wentz take his team past the first round. I just want to point something out of carson wentz first of all. I agree with the pressure point. He's under i would say in the regular season carson. Wentz is tied for first under pressure with stafford wants committee he. He's hot and rushing my book but once the playoffs start. No one's going to be under more pressure than stafford wants to the playoffs star. He's going be the guy under the most pressure but during the regular season could argue whence he certainly way up there whence just recall with the eagles. He didn't go to the super bowl foles. Did that put them in a position but he didn't go. He didn't take them to the playoffs. The next year for a title defense full did that. They caught fire with. Foale's anyone playoff game soldier. Field bears defense almost beat the saints on the road. That was foles who did that even when they got to. The playoffs the next year it was a one legged forty year. Old guy. never been to the playoffs. Who lost a seattle by the same score that wants it lost to him a couple of weeks before and then finally jalen hurts takes over the offense and they do. The offense looks better with hurts than with wentz. My point is the eagles team responded to every other quarterback the quarterback that team at least as well as they responded to wince whence has to get that squared away with this colts team to a lot of it is chemistry and leadership and we can hope that he'll he's learned that and that frankel bread out but we don't know that max two things A bone to pick with you. That's not one hundred percent true because there are points where people were chanting pensilvania and he was playing off. The charts is one of the best quarterbacks in the league and then he dealt with a few different injuries so we have seen him be of topnotch quarterback and as far as being placated the situation with the eagles. I would argue that. He doesn't need the tough love now. He needs someone to him back up. I think he's lost. All confidence will respond to that real quick because because molly direct ooh number one yes. It was wentzel me. All that stuff occurred before the injury that's true and before they ever won the super bowl not after that was leading up to it. And i give him props for the way he played them. That's the ones we're talking about That we don't know that that guys ever gonna come back and the reason. I say tough love when you say well. He needs someone to build them up. He needs to be built up from everything. Pocket awareness confidence. Everything footwork everything. He needs to be built back up and the injury. I agree with you. Molly played a part. I'm not. I'm not saying we're not talking about the cause. I'm just talking about the effect right but in terms of what can affect him. Now i think the last thing you need just people telling them how great he is. That's how we wound up in this position in the first place..

"Well i agree with that. I think camps job to lose now. I'm not saying he had a major league over mack jones in this quarterback race. But right now. I think i don't know vowed lula's while you're listening to feel bella. Tick what did he say. The only reason guy won't have this. He's not unavailable which can isn't right now. Which doesn't really sit well for four cam right now. Or there's a person that's better than him. Cam has show me everything right now to be the starting quarterback he has lost his job. He hasn't did anything to lose his job and not only that. He's been very supportive of the guy that he's competing with that speaks volume for kids. Last year he put up some career low so that was part of it. Obviously we know he dealt with the cove and marc spears. Tell me this. I i get that. We can see two of playing but who's ultimately going to start more games camera. Mak make start more games cameras. Start out as the starter okay. i disagree i think. Can't i think look this doesn't mean just 'cause this is the case now it will always be brought this up yesterday. No rookie quarterback who started has ever taken a team to a super bowl let alone one believe me. That's the objective with this every year. So between a guy who's actually been. Mvp been to a super bowl and looks good. Actually looks better right now with this. He and a rookie. I'm pretty sure that bill belichick and less cam flat out stinks or is unavailable is going to stay with the veteran. Now marcus i see. I've got a question you fit in perfectly. I don't care you can hook them. Puff you can blow houses down. But all i'm gonna do a sit right back here getting my bricks and build a house. Backup cam newton right. Now it's his job to lose. He's gonna start morgan on our. I think bill belichick had a little lou fetish for dual threat quarterback. That's something a lot of people don't understand because in two thirteen cam newton towards them with his arm in his league's two thousand seventeen cam tortured him with his arms in his legs. Now i'm gonna tell you can help them. Puff you can look at the ceiling all you. I'm still going to look you. And i'm going to say what i gotta say. Marcus two thousand nine hundred ninety three hundred four games at the patriots loss. Were to a dual threat quarterback. That's the type of quarterback that gives a bill belichick defense heart hard time to deal with fits so one to bill. bill takes. What does he see when he sees. This happened to his defense. That's the kind of guy. We're probably won't why he why he went. That's why he went. And got cam newton last year and sound him and that's probably why he a little bit why he resigned this year. Because now cam have the full outfit. A full season off season to go through this offense in understand. This new england office is one of the toughest office to learn in the nfl. Now i wanna okay okay so so. It seems like making argument against cabinet. I'm not i. I hope to start for the rest of the season. I don't believe that that's going to be the case. Got a question for both of you. Get with the last time. The new england patriots. Drafting offense a player in the first round. What they do that jones you build in. This style is waiting a long period of time magazine. And that's the start. Listen cam newton this plane this year to show that he can play for another team at the level in which you can win with at quarterback matt jones is the succession plan cam on the week to week schedule. Y'all i know nobody wants to say it and don't know about it. believe it. he's on a week to week basis. Because i think that's right or that's what we say. It is his job to lou. I think that i disagree. He will start the most days. I think that's right own up to week to week. I don't think mack jones going to start more games than less cam comes down with covert work gets hurt or is otherwise unavailable. But i like harry's point a lot everyone assumes that bill belichick took cam newton. Because tom brady was gone he was the best available option for the money. And he got it and that's probably true but can also be talkin. Ko can't it also be true. That bill belichick is watching the league. Change into a dual threat quarterback league in thinking man. Let me get my hands on. One of these dual threat quarterback gotta die. dimple funds. Can do. You've got a job at just because look just because he had tom brady. Who is an immobile quarterback and now he has mack jones who's an immobile quarter. Everyone assumes well that's the kind of guy he wants. Maybe that's just the best available guy right but i'm quite sure belichick could give matt jones. Legs he would. Why wouldn't you want them to do more stuff. And cam. newton. Got legs. And i'm not disagreeing. Look look man. Everybody knows that the league is better. When you have a quarterback that's athletic. He can himself trouble. That's why that that's why argued every damn week leading up to the draft that the san francisco forty niners should not drag jones and new patriots. Sued you go here mileage. Marcus spears. you're not the only one with good vibes there's also some in indianapolis after carson wentz returned to practice. You can see him there. Moving around two and a half weeks from the regular season. The colts are cautiously optimistic. Three weeks out from foot surgery. He went through seven on seven work in hell increase the workload next week. La marca spears. Back there with us. But i'm going to start with you max. Carson wentz has kind of become a pet topic for max kellerman. What's the cold. Give me like that. You know what it is. What's the truth. What's the cold ceiling with wentz. Healthy playoff game Can bounce back. I don't think he'll bounce as high as he wants. Did which was the best player in the nfl portly. That's because the players in the nfl have gotten better at that position remember. He was talented at quarterback than everyone else is arms. Legs the whole thing toughness. No doubt about it. He was a great season. I thought he was going to be. Mvp then he got hurt and his team won the super bowl but then the following season the team was flat. They were dead in the water. Five hundred or maybe a game under gets hurt again falls takes over. They catch fire then the following year one good and everyone was on the second half. He's an mvp candidate but if you watched him the reason i started saying he was not good while everyone else was telling you he's near mvp is.

He's aggregating twenty five points now and assists and averaging over twenty eight points so between toiling asan's and more likely to get it this season. You know the problem is the is coast bias. Everybody thinks this as bricks little but a small market. You just proved it. All amendments of the stem brother will. James harden's plane. You clearly want weren't watching for that all ya get the back court violator of the show all day. All of one of every single member of the media. I mean you gotta give them some slack. Saying i'm bored. I'm giving it to buy this if you're not somebody's talking about you. The first one is the one that he he could dribble dribble dribble drew. Your your body. Be dave chapelle bit where he doesn't live voice that's about to be of a little bit. Oh greystoke christmas usual. That was the back court fire later in the backcourt violation by chris. Good stuff sir. Good stuff all right. Let's get into some football. Let's talk about one. Jameis winston showy. He recently signed a one year with the saints base. Salary of five point five million but could be worth up to twelve million dollars in incentives. Are you guys doing are selling jameis. Winston as the starting quarterback of the new orleans saints on bond. I'm bonded. I'm bonded on any given sunday. Mark my word. On any given. Sunday jameis winston can win a he can win lars guy's got a cannon foreign arm. He's talented house. A guy to stone for five thousand yards thirty touchdowns and thirty intercept. Show my gosh taste my mouth just quarterback that's thrown for over thirty touchdowns and at least thirty interceptions in a season after throwing five thousand yards. That's why he doesn't have a job right now. Still i'm blind. And no those receivers in new orleans are very excited to you so fast boys because some big receivers and michael thomas he's not a burner but let that man is going to go. The man is going to win. That man is going to catch some balls. Catch a whole lot of balls now. Hopefully drew brees has dropped a couple nuggets at least one or two nuggets that helped propel guys stopped doing interceptions. Hopefully he stop taking those chances. I think he's got a better office of line and In new orleans. And i think you'll be able to play probably a little bit more conservatively. Waste not taken as many chances you to as he has to where you had to play for tampa bay. But i'm i think it'd be fun. I really liked the fact that they brought him back. I'm with you one hundred percent. I'm buying this all the way in. If i was playing poker. I'd be all in on this. I love it for all the reasons. Low said to add to all thing. I'll say is i believe in jameis winston if you take away those interceptions momentum more behalf but if you take those interceptions which i think he will take away. Then he's close to his plane like any quarterback in your him for really cheap. I'm all for it. I'm with you low. We all go to by james winston on this. I think a lot of people sold on them but the too much of their only flaw in his game is the interceptions right right. I'm here turnovers right. I'm going to go in and buy two as well. He has too much working for him. Over near new orleans he does have Drew brees there to mentor him. Encasing easily mentorship. During the course of the season he has sean payton in their the. Probably the best head coach. He's ever had an office of genius there. You mentioned michael. Thomas also as well Low but the one key thing. You guys are not mentioned. Kamerhe alvin kamara those quarterbacks best friend running a good running back off. Okay office line. They're both they're both in the same category right. If you have a good running game you can do wonders as a quarterback and this is going to be the best running game that james winston ever had obviously okay so you look at that there and not even this one the fact that takes them hills there as well. Okay tastes hill is their champagne. Let be known that. This is a quarterback competition right. He let it be known. That's what it is. If that doesn't motivate jameis winston to go ahead and grabbed his starting role the new orleans saints. Nothing will but i truly expect him to go ahead. Overtake that become the starting quarterback and just grow. I've been waiting for. James wis to grow for very longtime was ever. Since he came out of college for florida state. I thought man this guy has he s something there i think he showed a little bit entebbe last year. It was just like you mentioned the interceptions. I think you're right chris if you get this. Cut that in half. He will be a very very effective quarterback the saints. So i'm buying i'm all in on venus. Listen there with the saints. I really i really am what do you what do you think is a successful season for him as a saint mixture curtain harlem turnovers in half. That'll be a success because he's gonna get yard. That's not a problem. He has no issues getting yards his noise. She's doing t- throwing touchdowns just cut your look look ten interceptions max and two lost fumbles. That's all you get is all you get. Because he's going for at least forty.
LeBron James becomes partner in group that owns Red Sox
"Talked about the king. Lebron james clearly not enough on his plate if he can add part owner of the boston red sox to the old resume. Going fenway. sports group is a partner. Looks pretty good. The with to with this is him taking the next step four. This is just like in a lot of athletes need to study this dude and how he moves his can because these our next level nick

Free Agency 2021: Biggest Winners and Losers From Day One
"Who's the biggest winner from day. One the biggest winner from day one already told you it was. It was a my intro. You're listening great question. Jonnu smith out. It's cam newton. Well that depends kenyans a starter for sixteen games. That's right that's true. It's yeah okay. Potentially find jonah smith. Donald smith big contract with the patriots They invest heavily in him. You like this for him i do. I think you know Obviously the quarterback is the concern. But this is the scenario especially with the move that they made that we look for in fantasy as tight end could be the leader of the pack in terms of targets and opportunities and so look cam was not good in twenty twenty. If cam does start sixteen games in two thousand twenty. One greg olsen. During a five year stretch was pretty awesome of the top tier tight ends of the guys that we did. We talk about what he was in the next group you know. And so from twenty two thousand twenty sixteen. Greg olsen averaged a hundred eighteen targets a season seventy seven catches Decide one thousand yards and five times. Johnny could do that. One season estimate put them right around a top five tight end. Greg olsen was great and not only was he great but we also saw from cam newton in that stretch that he could give you greg olsen. Who could finish as a top eight tight in five straight seasons and give you a number to wide receiver in four of those five seasons three or four of those five seasons whether it was. Steve smith or kelvin. Benjamin and even ted ginn one year. So that's interesting. I'll afforded talking about that on the show tomorrow on the tuesday morning show and then of course we'll have a whole bunch of more news items to react to. Hopefully we'll get some kenny golladay news at some point on tuesday or maybe it'll happen later on monday night as record this at about nine fifteen eastern. Who's the biggest loser from day. One the biggest loser from day one on asking these questions before. I told you that we were starting with these egypt's before the show The biggest guys they ryan tannehill johnny smith and Us down smith and corey davis They're going to have to struggle to replace those guys Davis probably more. So the jonah just from the standpoint of what he was last year with his production number two receiver sixty five catches nine hundred plus yards and five touchdowns. So we'll see what they do in in in that in that regard but i think Tannehill you know. I had him as the number eleven quarterback. I dropped in the thirteen after today. Just because i think it was close between in my mind. Joe burrow and tom brady put them behind both those guys. Okay how 'bout jameis winston ryan tannehill right now. It's soom jameis winston as the starter. I still go. i think it'd be messy. You know. I can't situation we're taking those not blaming So i was hoping james would go someplace else and tastes hill. Would still be the guy with maybe a rookie or somebody. Young that they could groom continued. Just gonna to get you know too much of the mill package of james as the starter and if as milton starter. Davis is gonna play very much so it just feels like it be messy situation oil. Who do you like better. Corey davis with the jets nelson agholor with the patriots. I think adler is going to be bad. I don't trust the situation. You know i mean he. He had so many big. Plays for the raiders last year and he was so good for derek carr but he did that on eighty two targets. I don't think he gets eighty two targets with the patriots. He's going to do the same thing. So with what cam does running the ball with what jonah smith brings to the table with. What the rest of the receiving corps will look like if julian edelman on the team if he's healthy Nagla is going to be A guy that's not on many fantasy rosters middle of the season whereas corey davis could be the best receiver for the jets. I don't know if that's going to be the case. But i would take davis by far over niagara.
Stop with the Cam Newton nonsense
"Season officially upon us. We've got a lot of lot of stories a lot of rumors lot of things floating out there that may not make people happy. It's the long dark Patriots podcast. We're going to talk about everything and anything related to the Patriots particularly their quarterback situation, of course always rate review subscribe all that good stuff regarding Patriots podcast with Nick cattles nickel be back for another episode later on this week. I'm John zanis filling in and the story du jour or do week or whatever you want to say here appears to be a Cam Newton wage. His name is resurfacing and the Patriots quarterback starch and Greg. I can't I can't think of Anything worse to happen right now if you're a Patriots fan right now and and all you want is New Hope. Okay. This is a new hope the possibilities are endless blank canvas money draft picks Capital. Theoretically the Patriots could do a lot of different things some of which could be very exciting and interesting and I can't think of one thing that would just throw a wet blanket all over over all over that any more than bringing back Cam Newton. Yeah John, it's it's weird. I I started hearing the chatter on all the Sports Talk radio station a week and I'm like what the hell is going on? Like it's basically like Cam Newton's become it's similar to some of the debates that you hear in politics like where they just like Stoke fear in people to generate interest in their shows and things like that. It's like, ooh now Cam Newton's the boogeyman that like who they might be bringing Cam Newton back just to get people to react like people people need to settle down and this is why you suck. Had to be SJ this why you listen to this podcast because you know things like how last offseason when everybody was going nuts about Saddam was a guy in Cherry stem is going to be this and Jerry system is going to be that and he's going to be the next guy. You know, what did I tell you from January of last year over a year ago. I told you that he was not be the starter that there was going to be some sort of Veteran competition. So, you know, welcome to coming here where you where you get well informed you don't have to worry about the hysteria. You just get straight facts and and what's going on. So here's where we are. We Cam Newton and this is something that I've been talking about since the end of his Patriots season, which is it's always been a possibly that Cam Newton could come back here. It all depends on what happens with the market and who they end up with the quarterback and this and that but for anyone to suggest the Cam Newton month Is going to be re-signed being the definite number one. That's what we want starter here next year. That's not going to happen. It just it just isn't in and here's why. We've also sort of touched on this but just to sort of reinforce the point. I think what happened this past season is the Patriots realized and and look we've talked about it that there wasn't really a plan back to check understood that there weren't enough chairs for the quarterbacks and somebody was going to be left could have been Jameis Winston could have been Cam Newton could have been Andy Dalton could have been anybody. It happened to be Cam Newton and they said they'd make it work. It did not work and what I think John what happened was and actually I know this happened the Patriots realized after the Cam Newton experiment that not every quarterback can work in the system and that's not to say Cam Newton still not capable of playing good football. I think that he is do I think it could be better with a better Supporting Cast absolutely I do and do I think God Part of the problem last year. Yes, but at its basis in this scheme, you need a quarterback who sees the totality of what's going on in the field. You need someone who's going to win before the snap. You need somebody who's going to see something on the defense say that's this is about to be a bad play here. We're checking to this and Cam Newton outside of you know, he might he might have alerted a few plays here and there but not even close to what we've seen in and look I'm not going to compare him to Tom Brady. Nobody's going to be Tom Brady, but The Baseline Jimmy Garoppolo would have been a lot better. Jarrett Stidham probably would have been a lot better in terms of what he could even when Jarrett Stidham got in John. We saw things like Palm Coast him would change things that the line that's the Baseline in this offense. And that's where it starts. The number one tenant in this offense is don't run any bad place when the quarterback is incapable of doing that for whatever reason that's that's strike. Number one strike. Number two is understanding after the snap. What's going to happen? What is the defense going to do? What is that going to mean in in reaction time? Like if I see the if I see the free safety all of a sudden rotate from too deep to single single life safety. I should know like that who's going to be open, but great. Let me ask you real quick. Cuz everything you're saying makes perfect sense, but did you need a year of did the Patriots need a year of Cam Newton to know that he wasn't that guy? Is it did you think he was that guy walking through the door? Is there anybody really smart Personnel people out there who thought? Oh can't might be able to adapt to this Patriots dial offense. It didn't seem sensible fit. Anyway. This is a guy who's always had accuracy problems who who plays a totally different style of ball. I mean, I don't know why you would have brought him in the first place. If your idea was to offer a patriot style offense
Turnovers Doom Saints in 30-20 NFC Divisional Playoffs Loss to Bucs
"Bill. I just want to dive into it here. Because there's a lot to get to after watching the bucks. Beat the saints. Thirty to twenty so new orleans had been in tampa bay twice this season in week. One about four hundred years ago and then again in november. So what was the difference in this game vs those other two. I really simple pablo the saints. Just didn't protect the football. In the two regular season games between these teams the saints won the turnover battle. Both times there are plus three in the week one victory and then one up in the rematch. Tom brady threw five picks across those two games. Only seven in his other fourteen games. That really felt like the saints had his number and they were gonna have to flip that to win in new orleans. Well they flipped. It didn't turn the ball over the saints coughed up. Four times including three interceptions drew brees. The bucks turned the first few takeaways and two touchdowns and use the fourth to wrap up the game and kneel down. It's virtually impossible to win a playoff game. That sort of margin the saints will just sloppy in this game. Mean breeze could have thrown four or five picks. He threw an awful interception under pressure for the first one and on the same page with alvin kamara on a scene route for the second interception. The third bounced off jared cook. Who also fumbled away a completion on a drive where the saints were looking at. Go up to scores. They lost the ball and proceeded to give up seventeen unanswered points to end their season. So clearly the bucks had a formula of sorts for stopping breeze in it seemed like every aspect of this game. But it's not just that they stopped him instead. They made him look straight up terrible really often and i'm wondering how did they do that to that degree. Well i really think that todd bowles bucks defense. Look the tape from last week's game against the bears look how drew brees was playing. Look at how pal those receivers were moving and just didn't think there was anybody in that lineup who could reliably win against man coverage or beat them down field with their speed. This was especially true. After the saints lost deonte harris who had two long punt returns early in this game to a neck injury the saints did get a long touchdown but it was not with brees on the field. It was the lone snap for one jameis winston who came in and use the same trick. Play the bears ran against them last week. For a long touchdown coming across his sanders they handed to them. Refers goes to jameson mega man. Wide open trade smith at the twenty five fifteen ten five and a touchdown saints and jameis winston. What a touchdown pass against his former overall when breeze on the field it was pretty clear at the game plan was to dare him and his receivers to try and take shots towards the sidelines and get downfield and the game plan worked the bucks used heavy doses of twists and stunts upfront create pressure and then just smothered breezes receivers. I honestly it really felt the only reason. Sean payton didn't bench breeze for winston on the last drive. The game is because it was probably a last few snaps of drew brees his career.
Breaking down Kyler Murray-to-DeAndre Hopkins Hail Mary
"Dominic. It is eleven twenty seven pm eastern. And i m almost done tattooing. Cuyler murray's name using a ballpoint pen across my chest. Go forward i'm with you. Want me wait why you finish your being supportive in a way. That bill barnwell. Why usually talk do right now. Isn't i think like he would be reasonable and discourage me from doing this. But you're a far less responsible character. It feels. I'm here for a good time now longtime just today's episode so i'm fumbled fox ready for sublime tattoo it. Let's have some drinks. Whatever you wanna do. Pablo dominique. Foxworth is a writer and commentator for. Espn he played seven seasons in the nfl at defensive back and he's espn dailies. fun uncle. Well what i wanted to do before we get hammered together is talk to you about this play. That is inspired all of this ink to be spill both across my chest and across the country. Because i think it's the play of the year. I think what we saw in this bills. Cardinals game is the play of the year. And it's worth noting for posterity that the bills had just one said gave right before it happened. Josh allen had thrown. I think the pass of his life to step on digs putting buffalo thirty to twenty six with just thirty nine seconds left. The snap man looks to his left. Choirs left side. Then go to the point steph. Both touchdowns catches a touchdown pass from josh allen. What cuyler murray then does rolling left. Let's hit pause as his bomb is launched from midfield in his dangling in the air. Because you are a cornerback in your blood in your soul. How do you even approach defending this sort of a play as db well. They did it wrong. Obviously they were all going for the ball which you don't necessarily want to do in that situation and trae white one of the best corn illegal that he was trying to catch it which any coastal tell you. Bet it down. So everyone's out there trying to pad their stats in the thing that i would normally do. Not ideology happens as a particularly big receivers but tall receivers will jump well over the arms can't catch a bomb like that with one hand if you do best one for you. So that's what they did wrong going for the ball in also trying to patch stats with an interception i. I was particularly happy towards the end of that game because on get up last week. I said that stefan digs is unstoppable. Man coverage way. You shut down passing offenses in this league. We all know it. It's tight man coverage you can't do that. Against stefan digs. He has been created the most explosive plays of any receiver in this league against man coverage. So he caught the game winning touchdown man coverage also said in that same segment the andrea hopkins is the best contested cats receiver in the league. He's one of the top receivers in a league in winning contestant catches so he can get open but the scary part about him is. It doesn't matter you put it anywhere his entity even if you're close to them you're buying he might bring it down and embarrassed boom so win for me. How about that back to back dubbed up.
New Orleans Saints agree to terms with QB Winston on one-year contract
"Yahoo Sports is Charles. Charles Robinson reports at Norrland's is finalizing a one year deal with Winston. The former buck coming off a five thousand one hundred nine yards season thirty plus touchdowns three interceptions and immediately eyebrows. Raised the idea that Winston would stay in the division. Go to the Saints. Backup drew brees. He enters the mix with Tatum Hill. Who IS SUPPOSED TO BE? And maybe still is the heir apparent To breeze so it just leads to a lot of unsolved mysteries in its own right greg your thoughts when you heard the news that Winston may be and quite possibly is headed to the saints I I wasn't shocked because I I what I did. This hashtag setup into your own comet with a big way. Why why you made your Greg sounding you often. I got it. I wasn't gonNA say anything but then mark reacted to it and I can't help myself but go ahead. I did this Saints Twitter Pot. Podcast just knew that way wolf as podcasts. Him into my buddy Adam and they were saying they were hearing. This was going to happen before the draft so they got sources on the inside and and they ended up being proven right and it makes all the sense in the world of your Jameis Winston and makes sense of. You're the saints too. I think you get a chance to get Jameis. Winston in the building for a year probably drew brees his last year. We haven't heard any financial terms the Jameis Winston deal you know was reported on before the Taste Hill extension Came out and the money that was involved. That extension came out. Part of me does wonder. Is this deal for absolute sure does did Winston know about that before he he came determines but either way he? He should do the deal. Because if he can somehow impress Sean Payton or if he can end up getting in the lineup and being as backup like Teddy Bridgewater What better place to possibly learn because damis Winstons still has a lot to learn but he also has a lot of talent a guy that throws for five thousand yards can do things in the NFL and like there's no better place to learn. Other than to undo. Breezy and Sean Payton.
NFL free agency goes on amid Coronavirus
"For you and there's still a ton of NFL news to pass along because that offseason my goodness that's been well in the swing past the week or so Kansas city defending champ sign former giants offensive lineman Mike Remmers among the free agents still available league wide Jameis Winston G. Davey and cloudy there was an S. I. report that there's an offer to cloudy on the table from Seattle currently though teams are unable to bring free agents into their facilities for a physical and team doctors cannot be sent to
Jameis Winston became the first 30 TD, 30 INT quarterback in the most fitting way possible
"Chavis Winston's future again on Sunday the season ended why him throwing a pick six on the first play of overtime in the loss to the falcons he becomes the first member in NFL history of the thirty thirty club at least thirty touchdowns and thirty interceptions in the same season you know the expression the enemy of great isn't bad the enemy of great is good Jameis Winston is good I don't think I'll ever be great if we were running any organization ESPN NFL team what would we want what attributes would we want in our leader to me its dependability its reliability I think he's high character I think it's important and but to me that's a fatal flaw he's been a week for five years yes AT a career interceptions without that dependability I think his ceiling is to be good and not great how sorry how does it affect your decision making at quarterback from GM standpoint when your do you have to look at what's out there absolutely I think it's the axiom Jason as you want to win for today and develop for tomorrow and again Bruce Aaron's took the job he was very clearly I'm gonna ride with James Winston on the make him better but at some point you have to say Hey you know what we have to react to what we're seeing so I wouldn't franchise him and the result would franchise in is who's going to pay him a lot of money coming off of the year they just threw thirty intercepted right that's the thing I I don't mean we're talking almost thirty million dollars on a franchise tag right so I mean I think they can get a deal done for less than that well I I would need to get the deal done I mean it's right for me my I'm not signing on a big jet one of the worst things you can do when you have your hand on the ball every player's turn it over and he does it more than anybody I can't rely on that even offer me a deal and by I agree to this a further as a former player I always felt like I was a GM you guys will hold me accountable if we pay him a lot of money we're saying that turning the ball over is

NFL: Sunday Night Football Recap
"Some interesting results pain. Every dog has its day and apparently sports books were able to buy back with their biggest Sunday of the football season thus far yeah tell you didn't capitalize while enough on that not the best. Sunday in it was it was a mess one one of those ones where you go through the car and you're like man I like this. I like this when I like this and they just don't make the cut and left a lot of money on the table and makes two of us. Is You watching coaching. We mentioned some of the bigger results clearly housing you root for the buffalo bills they get to the window at the Detroit lions as well as home underdogs and then of course Sunday night football we see the New Orleans Saints Cover Ver- as modest two to two and a half point underdogs but all that aside pain when you watched all the Games yesterday you went through some of the box scores and everything else as we do Monday mornings the good the bad and the ugly what stood out to you as some of the positive takeaways at least a quarter point of the season. Let's go the guy that constantly gets crapped on Jameis Winston. I thought he was fantastic. Obviously again needs to clean up. The mistakes still had the the massive brain fart late in the game which can happen but I think if you ask Bruce Arians eat like hey if Janus has like one w t.f moment every game. Would you take that I think the answer is probably probably s you know and aside from that one throw again. James was fantastic at the sixth deepest average intended air yards per throw in with that his completion completion percentage with four and a half percent better than expectation. He was accurate. WHO's officiant hit explosive plays your move that one pass and it probably was his best performance says a pro I think and when you look at geniuses performance clearly we know he's been surrounded by weapons. Tampa looks to speak figuring it out as far as they're running back situation relation that performance kind of the tip of the iceberg that we should have some optimism for James over the next twelve games I would think so right and we kind of came into the season and said hey this is is an interesting fit here with James who likes to be aggressive and head coach that likes to be aggressive if they can tone down the turnovers the offense has a real shot here and so when you're looking at this team two and two they blew the giants game missed field goal and I know a lot of the naysayers were saying something to the effect of they didn't trust James late so they ran the ball. Allah meanwhile there's an explosive town fields which to my Gavin's which set him up in the position to kick the game winning field goal so I viewed it a little bit differently early. I thought Tampa was going to be a team. That was going to impress the one team. No one was talking about in the off season right all of these changes at head coach and coordinators gators that were happening throughout the league. This was the one this was probably the biggest acquisition when you can bring in a Bruce Arians when he can add todd bowles to his defense who is the one that wasn't being discussed a lot about and I know in the off season. The win total was set at six. There's a reason it went up to six and a half. There wasn't sharp money but it wasn't talked about because they were still projected. It'd be one of the worst teams in their own division but I really liked what I'm seeing from Tampa right now. The ground games get going especially Ronald Jones the last two weeks as well. That's been a benefit and helped the offense to make a good balance but as long as James doesn't turn it over the scheme the style and the weapons are there for him to be
Randy Bullock, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Doug Brown discussed on Chicago GameDay
"I'm Doug Brown. NFL finals today. The Bengals get a forty four yard field goal at the gun. From Randy Bullock to beat the buccaneers thirty seven to thirty four Tampa Bay roared back from twenty one points down in the second half. Lead by Ryan Fitzpatrick who came in after Jameis Winston was
Fitzpatrick or Winston: Who will start for the Tampa Bay Bucs?
"To footballs and entertainment business, and you have to convince the fans to part ways with money time. And and emotion. Loyalty dedication to the team. What are the people in Tampa? Think of Ryan Fitzpatrick versus Jameis Winston, right? I mean, I saw a bunch of beards. I didn't see anybody eating ws in the stands on Monday night. I saw a bunch of beards on Monday night. Do the Tampa Bay fans want Fitzpatrick or do they want Winston, and and coaches can say we ignore the outside of baloney. If you ignore what your fans want what the people who pay the bills want what the people who either show. Show up or don't want the people who either clamor for you to be fired or clamor for you to get an extension want. Then you're stupid. You have to listen to what the fans want, and you have to be communicating with the fans, you have to be doing focus groups and surveys, and you have to have your finger on the pulse at all times of what the people want because that's a factor. It's not the deciding factor, Chris. But if there is a clear momentum for Fitspatrick, you can't move to Winston you can. But you have to do it at your own risk until there's that clear move among the fans to go with James Winston.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers mum on whether Ryan Fitzpatrick or Jameis Winston will start
"The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback situation. Jameis Winston will be reporting this morning. He's done with his suspension. You could imagine he's eager to get back to work. The team is two and one and Ryan Fitzpatrick has more than twelve hundred yards passing with eleven touchdowns versus I think now four total interceptions. So if you're Dirk cutter, what would you do? We certainly know that Fitzpatrick has a passion for football and that fire that intensity that competitive spirit. That's contagious. And the team has responded. The offense has responded. The offense is happy and productive. So now Fitzpatrick goes into a week of uncertainty with Tampa Bay after the loss on Monday.
