"Tomorrow. And like, talk about just like you as a basketball player, right? It's like you have this ism. You have this it, you have this sauce. Right? How do you do it? Do you practice it? You know what I'm saying? How do you do it? Do you practice it? Do you think about it? Is it more in your dreams and shit? It's all of it. But I'm going to tell you I stole from it. I got so from you. I stole from stuff on Barbara to go from AI stove from Isaiah. I stole from Tim walker the way. I saw Kenny Anderson. So I stole from Nick van axel. Pop master the rice. So I stole my move. I stole from all you guys. Like you said before an introduction, a basketball story, like I studied everybody. I'm literally a study everybody from my era and before. And so all the way up. And so with that, I would do that and then imagination, like the imagination to do something, and then be able to take it crazy together. I've never once done a ball handling through my life. I use humans as cones. Like, I would see what would work, what wouldn't work. Because I'm like, that code is not a 6 5, 6, 6 athletic do. The move. You know what I mean? It all moves. So what happens in your mind when that play that you're trying to work on with that cone does it work? You freeze up. It's cold. And then I'll see what I worked with. It was crazy. My ten best moves I had in my arsenal. I never pulled out the league because I was ever made an All-Star Game I was put out every time down the court. I was upon a different one every time I record. So now they had a press record. I just end the balls. They just in the boss because I'm going to give it to my son, but I'm telling you, it was just imagination. Yes. I was just a mess. Would this work or what if I did this with this? Okay, what if I did my footwork? And I got long arms, so I got a 7 foot wingspan, so sometimes I'll lose the ball, and they think I lost it, I put me into another crossover. If I was a boxer, I'd be a counter punch. I would do something to see you react. And then I play off of that. That's so dope, man. I can imagine you just create. You know what I mean? With a basketball without a basketball, in the grocery store. I see the young Jamal Crawford shaking, right, and bob and. You have a game that you can not teach. You have a game that you was born with. You've birthed this, right? You have birthed this style, right? We like to ask the question, if there were three artists, right? That you could relate your game and your style to who would those artists be? I think, and I can give you a bunch of like, I could say kiss, I could say pop, but the one person, I try to emulate my game after and I wanted to sound or look like they sounded was Andre 3000. And what I mean by that was he was so unique and so different that we had never seen one. When I was a kid, I used to ask people like, yo, who's game do I resemble? Is it pennies? Is it Iverson and there was like, no, you're a little bit nah. And as a kid that broke my heart 'cause I'm like, damn, how am I gonna make you to the top league if I don't play like nobody later? Fast forward 20 years. Now I'm like, damn, I'm glad I'm to this day. I don't think there's one person. I want to be like Andre. How Andre, you be like, man, Andre rap. He's from a different planet. I want to play like I was from a whole different place. Right. Like, period. I want to play like, oh, I want to be the street dude who could bridge the gap between street and the quote unquote professional game. Yes. And make it win. The world's life. I love skip to death, but skip with skip on the streets and he is ready for Austin and Lee. And that's not his fault because at the time we grew up in. He had to do that. He had to do that. He talked about that. He talked about that on the show. He was like, look, I was the top point guard in the country as a junior didn't matter. So he was like, I know how point guard, but I know you gotta give something up. You know what I mean? And I was like, fuck it. I said, I waited my whole life to be on this stage. I don't know how long I'm gonna be here. Even y'all were accepted, are you not? And I thank God that I was like oh my God. I have the mentality to do it because I think no matter what, they'll remember that. They'll remember me for that. You got moves named after you, bro you know what I mean? That's crazy. How does that feel? You know what I'm saying? Like, you growing up, you practicing all this shit. You know what I mean? You got this imagination and you low key feeling yourself. You know what I mean? 'cause I'm going through the same shit. You know what I mean? It's like a dance. And then I'm mad that I didn't get to pull all my shit out. You know what I mean? Because of certain things, but you did not give two shits. And that's what you love, bro. Because when it happened, you were already going to do it. That's right. That shit wasn't spontaneous, bro that was not spontaneous. You're like, yo, I'm about to do this move on this motherfucker right now because it's the right moment in time. And that's complete freedom. You know what I mean? How do you get? How did you get to? That moment hit was in college, was it did it? It was young because my dad, like he played and he'd always give me the basics of the game, follow through the jump shot. Don't over drill. You know, he would give me the basics and so for me, he was like, yo, people are gonna say you're fancy. He was like, if that's who you are, be this person all the time. So for me, I play the same way if it was a high school gym, if there's 20,000 people there, if we was on the black top. So I own my flow. Oh, my side. I'm not changing. I'm an old white. I'm just gonna master it. So I can do it anytime anywhere. It's still like her whole say, he was like, people here, the flashy lyrics, I can really rap. I can really whoop. Really, I actually know the game. You can be really, you can play on different levels. You know what I mean? Different people. Yeah. Yeah, 'cause I could play my case with you being all that. I'm a fan. You can still play today. Boom, I got you. You can still be like playing. Today, and that's what I tell somebody. A one on one is very, very different because at 50, there's still a one O one. You know what I mean? At 60, there's still a one on one so they can still hoop. You know what I mean? It's just, they can't move, maybe as fast, but if you put them out there, they're gonna get you some money. You know what I mean? Now, basic ball player and a professional and, you know, when certain people retire, they have to retire because they're no good. One of us continue to get better. Boom, my last game, my last school gave up play. Yep. I was

"Got over two points in the semester. So I passed my class, but still I missed the old basketball team. Damn. Fast. Fast forward, I work with my game again. The same damn thing happens to my sophomore year. I make the team, I don't have a team. And what is it? Because I was going through the same shit I crossroads, like tardies, and excuse that. It was just, I felt like he was like too cool for school. I was way too cool. When I went to class, I applied myself. It was born. It was born to me. I'm going over here. I'm going to get a haircut and do whatever it is I do. Whatever it is I can. So same thing happens. Now, it gets to a point where I get my attendance and stuff was so bad. Think about this for me. You know this. Dorsey is in south central. Right? They want us in there. My attendance was so bad. I got kicked out of Dorsey the second part of the year and they was like, look, you got to go to your home so I had to go to morningside. Oh my God. Go to morningside to finish up that semester. He said, if you do well, you can come back. Mass crazy. Yeah. So that's how that works. That's how it was so bad that I had to go to morningside because that was my home school, 'cause I lived in Inglewood to get back to Dorset. And all the time you working on your game and the whole time. And you can't play. And I can't play. And that's where now I'm going to tell you about the debt part of when he was like, he tried to steer me away from basketball. And so me and him got into it a lot. And it's a relationship that to this day is still a work in progress. This is much better. But that was the foundation for why we were like that because he was like, all you think about is basketball. Like the chances you make it is so slim, you know what I mean? And he was nice. So he had injuries that Oregon and what I found out later on was when he didn't make it, it broke his heart. So he didn't want me to go through that same. Hey, but what are your 15 year old kids? You like, why aren't you supporting my dream? That's what I want to do. Right. You know what I'm saying? So that was the friction. So I just stayed a little basic. All you love is basketball. You don't care about nothing else. What if it don't work, right? So I'm like, it's gonna work. It's gonna work. Fast forward, that year at morningside, and this is the airplane ticket. This ain't no electronic ticket. My sister said, you can take it. She's like, I'm gonna help you run away and get back here. I'm like, what? 'cause I was trying to run away. Yeah. I'm a help you get back, 'cause I knew in Seattle it was all the freedom I wanted. I'm like, I feel like I'm in jail. I gotta get out of here. Yeah. Right. So if she sent me the plane ticket or muffin fan, every day after school, you know, you have clothes you don't wear every day after school. I'm taking the clothes I wear and putting them in a suitcase in the back of the yard. I go back through the clips off of everything else. It's all packing my stuff each day. Because it's still a fool 'cause half the clothes I wear anyway, but they gonna stand here. Right. The day that the camera ran away and never looked back. And they knew once I read my family and my dad knew once I ran away back Seattle, they couldn't get me back. But it was like some click though. It was like, all right, now you know, you can't go to school if you don't get your grades. It's like something clicked to that point on. Vascular and then when you go back to Seattle, turn up state championship. You know what I mean? 'cause I remember watching you on the watch summer games, and then not seeing you again until you wind up at Michigan. You know what I mean? How did you get to Michigan? Why did you want to go to Michigan? You know, talk about that. High school years in Seattle, you broke out, you became a man. You was like a show. You know what I mean? Right. So one of my last games in New York now, the one my last game in LA before I left. I'm planning against you at the pump classic. And you lock me up. And it was embarrassing. You do it twice in a row. And remember, like, I know who Barron Davis is. He's my hero. Yeah. And we're only a couple of years apart, but he's my hero. I love this dude. And so I'm already mentally walking. It's almost like the first time you play against Irish man. You know what I see? You know what I'm saying? That's what it was for me. And I'm like, damn. So you locked me up, ripped me twice. In a row, full court like Nestlé with the ball, and it was one of the moments like I was embarrassed to dribble and I could really dribble. Even then. And so yeah, it was nice. No, that was, okay, so that was two games before the next time I ended up playing against Todd river zone. I had 30. It may be a Long Beach somewhere. Maybe at the pyramid. At the time. I had 30. But I knew you was watching 'cause that's your man. So you watch it and you probably play next. I'm like, man, I'm like, BD, I said 30 is like for real. Yeah, we had a quick time. I don't know if you ever had a quick conversation. I did, I left I ran away like two days later, three days later. Before next time. I come back to Seattle 16. And I'm on my own, my mixtape mission. Now, I want everybody to know I'm back 'cause they saw me as a kid, I left at 5 9. I went back to 6 four. I got the same handles same box. I'm like, where's the best ones in the city? In the worst spirit, like wildfire. Wildfire. So now, the city's taking notice, I got this one spot. It's kind of an upper spot. I play against the sonics on a humbug. I kill this arcs. I'm Pookie snows guard. I'm going out of all right. So then the sonics I don't know if it's going to exist past the statue of limitation. I start going to the science facility, killing. Yeah. In high school. Right. In high school. So now, Chris is like come playing a pro am, which is like the drew league in LA. I'm planning to get Sean Kim thanks out of my career. All right, cliff Robinson in peace. My first four games only get 8 points. I still like two points again. Doug Christie rose to ankle. It like just go, I might just hoop it. I started the rest of the way. At that point. It was over. I was like, oh, it's so. It's standing room only when you showed up. Like, what was it like going in high school, playing, you know? I don't know, 'cause you disappeared. I never knew you ran away. All I know is I was like, where's Jamal Crawford? Jamal Crawford was one of my favorite players, my favorite high school players, and I was like, damn, I was talking to them like that. I found one. You know what I mean? Like, you all that shit. I was like, man, this shit is about to go up. I always wanted to play with you, bro from when I saw you at Dorsey in the watch summer games. And then you disappeared. Now I know you left. And you ran away. What was it like you're seeing your year? In Seattle, please paint that environment for me, dude. I know it was crazy. So imagine this, right? There's no social media. So everything is by word of mouth or you got to come out and see it. My name hit grew so much. And the sonics is here at the time. The science is actually here in Seattle at the time. So my stuff, it went so crazy. With the sonics that now you got Gary Payton and Sean kept coming to my games. But my may have been the third most popular player in all of Seattle behind guarantee. That's what I'm saying. So it's standing room only. Gary Payton and those guys are coming to my games. Now this is a glove Gary Payton. And waiting for me after the game, but I was like, oh, shit this is crazy. Jason Jason Terry said the same shit. He said, Gary Payton would come to his high school games and be on the sideline, barking and talking shit, like pumping him up. Was he doing the same thing to you? The same shit, bro like he's coming to the games. Waiting for me after the game. So after my high school meeting all that, like, wait for him. Like he covered. And he's like, yo, do this, do this, come hang with me, I'm gonna show y'all that I'm like, what? This is the glove. Don't forget both just two years ago or a year or two before. I'm in LA and eligible. Right. You know what I'm saying? So this shit happens so fast. I'm a third most popular player. That's I was more profitable for any of the college students. For sure. And I was more popular sonics. Yeah. I became the star. Yes. Like Ken griffey, Julia, Eric Metcalf, these dudes are coming to my high school game. So I'm like, oh, shit. Stand alone. And when I'm playing, I'm trying not to let you down. I want you to have an experience. So people see all the shit I'm doing now in high school, all right. Now in the pros, but you were doing that in high school. So you had a lot of videos. I got a video, and I'm a release it at some point. Fuck it, I'm gonna tell you my God. I'm gonna release something called the lost crossing that I got when I was a kid all the way up to people have never seen one of the plays on there. I hit the ball full court. Pressure is there, I'm born that way. I dribble up full court my back to him. So he can get the ball walking backwards. I finally turn it facing at the three point line. I thought over my neck, I shoot it and I started running. The other way. I didn't watch it going. I was doing what I was doing that. In 1998. It turned it before the crowd lost. I got that on video. So there's so many plays. Yes. They were like, even GPU, like, it's a show. It's a show.

He said, Gary Payton would

"Now you in LA, now it's like, shit, these are, you can't stay out to one anymore. You know what I mean? And then going back to seeing yo, you know what time it is, you know, this show wouldn't be where it is. If it wasn't for our sponsors, let them have it. "Call 8 three three 5 7 8 84 66. Yeah, I may mark this a freshman. It wasn't eligible to play. Yep. Because my grades, I'm running around tough and just watching that watching that and I got introduced to the LA scene and then we'll posit there. Yeah, that you already know. But even before high school probation, you was going back and forth from LA to Seattle. You know what I mean? As a young Jamal with the basketball, so talk a little bit about that. Just as a young kid going from all right, I'm living in LA for two years. I'm living in Seattle. Like, what was that like just a Justin. You know what I mean? And how critical was basketball for you? In that time. Was he basketball was the one. So my mom and my two sisters were in Seattle and my rest of my family. My dad and my grandma and his mom were in LA. When I was in 8th grade, being before 8 Chris. I'm going back and forth, I'm in Seattle. Fourth 5th grade, I moved to LA, my dad, Graham. 8th grade, I moved back to Seattle. But now we're coming back to Seattle. I'm coming into the house. I'm coming to the house one in the morning. I mean, great. Sounds great. I'm coming to the house when I feel like I'm in the house. Being on the streets, I learned a lot, but my mom was like, look, you gotta go backwards, your dad, 'cause I can't control you. Yeah, it's like your story, bro it's like boys in the hood. Yeah. No, no, your story is the basketball boys in the hood. All right, so mom is like, all right, do you tripping? You going back to LA? All right. You going back to Ellis? And I wasn't going, but my dad and grandma came to physically get me, like, no, you're gone. Yeah. It's like you don't get exposure out here, it's gonna be good. It's gonna be good. And I'm like, man, it's funny you say that to me. I'm dang. You just brought back a crazy room. My sister said that when it happened she was like, you like boys and others? Yeah. You know what I'm saying? And so I went back with him and he's like, it's gonna be good for you and I didn't want to go for my mom couldn't control. My mom and dad never stayed the same house. To this day, I've never seen him stay in the same house. I was eating a little bit of what I was living with. Wow. Yeah, it was back and forth. And so when I went with him, my grandma, that's what I learned about going to church. That's when I learned about having chores. That's what I learned. It felt like for me, I was in jail, 'cause I was more than freedom. To all that. But even with all that basketball was the one, I slept with my basketball. When I flew on a plane, the basketball was my one carry on. So that was the one constant, no matter where I was going Friends change, people changed, but the basketball is the one thing that always made me, okay. Yeah, and Seattle is different than LA. It's totally. At that time. You know what I mean? You can probably stay out at 1 o'clock in the morning in Seattle. And LA, you know what I mean? And I don't think people know this either. Jamal Crawford wasn't the nicest person. You know what I mean? Kind of growing up. You know what I mean? But like talk about, because to me, you are the rose that grew from concrete. You know what I mean? You're like, you're the reason, you feel what I'm saying? Like, there's people who have played professional and come out of Seattle and have had big impact, but you are the reason. You dig what I'm saying? Because you're cut. I think how you are in LA? Yeah. It's how I am in Seattle. Bingo. I think that's, I think that's very similar to how you've always, no matter where you are. New Orleans, Charlotte, anywhere you were in the world, New York. Cleveland, anywhere, you was always LA. Yeah, just like you. Yes. You were reasonable. So it's like if BD's here and he's saying I can do it, that's a whole different feeling about all into it because this is the dude and he's saying I can do this. So if he's saying he's seen it off, he's saying it makes it more realistic to me. It's more tangible. So now you're really gonna get it. You know what I mean? Well that means NBA or not. Right, but something happens, right? You know what I mean? And for people like us, right? Because and I was talking to poo and LB and I had to give him their roses because they're the ones who cut through the scar tissue of having to not be a gangbanger. Might be affiliated. Not being, you know what I mean? That is to be able to, right? Play basketball. Right. In LA. She grew up in LA and grew up in the neighborhood and play basketball and not be affiliated with that neighborhood. And our era was just a little bit different than theirs. Totally different. And we didn't have friends. We didn't have friends at other schools. You know what I mean? And other hoods that was the man in basketball no. You know what I'm saying? It wouldn't happen. Especially between LA and Seattle, it's Seattle, if you say, where are you from? Like, all from, you know, I'm from this part of town from Colorado, I moved to in LA, you say, where are you from? It's like, what set you from? Like were you from? Yeah. Like you know, we got to establish this right now. We need to yeah. Where are you from? What street? Are you in front of this city? Yep. And so that is a whole different dynamic. So in Seattle, it's not like you could wear any color. It went on a colored thing there. Right. And LA is different politics. I remember the first day I went to Dorsey down my freshman. I get robbed the first time I go to the school. Bro, I got all the fake braces that I got from Disneyland and 8th grade. I got awesome blueprint hard ways. I was out of bounds. And you was fresh, but she was almost too fresh. Two friends. I had on the blue panties. With the blue light. Oh my God. With a blue Chris Webber. No, nobody gave him the memo. He ran across from the jungle. Where you from? I sell from Seattle. He was smart enough to be like, oh, okay. I just like basketball from Seattle. He's like, okay. Give me your bracelet, and don't ever walk around here like that. Yeah, I said, coop. I go to Le Mans. I'm like, yo, I just got robbed. Look what you look like. And the jungles. And the jungles are right up the hill from where you live. Training day, you know what I mean? All that, you know, all that shit. So like, really like, you know, for you, it's like, man, if you have this, it's just like this boys in the hood. You know, kind of story from Seattle to LA, Seattle, LA.
