"Zac taylor like that. I three honest. I didn't know he had that big of personality. Who is really good. Yeah that's who he is. I that's what i think has been good about this. Peter is these last few weeks. Have really you've got to see a different side of some of these coaches that have a lot of A lot more personality than sometimes we feel like you can really show and some of these rigid settings where you know you're answering questions and might be stressed out at after you know things don't go well. I know i can certainly attest that. But it's been great having these guys on appreciative of their time. Without knowing how busy they are zach was awesome. He was gracious of his time and he adds to a great list. That we've had. We've already had now robert sala matt lafleur cliff kingsbury. Hopefully we'll get some more in the next couple of weeks but before we wrap this episode we gotta get to the portion of the podcast that everyone is talking about. There's so much buzz in the air. It's called the reader emails and the voicemail and it's trending and its trademarked and it's got a snazzy name but the reader emails reader or listener. I don't even know craig hornbeck your our producer. What do we call on this thing. Oh i think how. How do you guys feel about me. Just print some shirts out. The the emails voicemails flying those those will sell quick. I bet they're hot. they're traffic. Why do i send sarcasm in your voice crack. Well one of these one of these weeks. You're gonna come with something better than the emails in the voicemails. I don't know what it is but surprised me next week. Otherwise it'll be my final flying coach podcasts as a co host with you we'll be changing. We get food craig. Why don't we get to it. Let's do it What's our first email this week. All right this is from Brian in woodstock georgia he says. I consider the washington football team. Coaching staff from twenty ten. Two thousand thirteen to be this. Generation's cleveland browns coaching staff from ninety one to ninety four hundred dollar check in terms of being a cradle. Future great coaches. Can you tell me one thing you learned from coach. Mike shanahan about creating a winning culture in developing young leaders. Yeah i think The main thing that stands out about coach san is the consistency. It's easy to say hard to do. You know everybody's got these buzzwords but the way that we define consistency truest measurement of performance and one year. A hall of fame caliber coach. Like him he consistently expected the same thing. He was consistent in his standards that he upheld himself as a leader as a head coach he demanded that of the players and i thought he really demanded that as you know of his coaches you know he's one of those guys that you wanted to work hard because you always knew. He was on every little detail that was going on. There was no stone that was unturned There was a healthy competitiveness that our staff had amongst one another in that environment that he really created but the consistency and the standards that he upheld day in and day out is is something that all forever take with me and and then really. I think a commitment to a philosophy. You know those things really stood out you know he. He's he's one of the original coaches that did such a phenomenal job of in the run in the past. And that's really something that you see for a lot of these upper-echelon offenses in any you really in any level of football and coach and pit him. Is that as much as anybody showing. Can i ask you a question about shanahan. So you're there and for a while kyle is in between you his son. Did you have direct access to mike. Also what was the dynamic there with all those young coaches because his son is one of them. Yeah i did and you know coach was the true. Co head coach. He knew everything that was going on offense defense to the kicking game. You could see you know this was You know it was his offensive system. But kyle had really taken it and done a phenomenal job with coach kubiak houston and really kind of had made it his own but there was always a great collaboration. I thought it was really cool. Watching you know to great coaches and kyle and mike really Have a great father son relationship. But also you talk about too high caliber football coaches and you know the ways that they operate a day in and day out and so there was a lot of interaction you know. I was in essence. Kyle's quality control coach. And so i was drawn the past pictures i was doing all the breakdowns and so he was You know you operate at a standard that you know you really realize that. Hey there's a reason why cows been successful as he has and you know he was great about being demanding and i think that's what made a lot of these guys that have worked with him and for him a lot better coach. Myself matt lafleur. You've got guys like michael. Flir robert solid now and even you know mike mcdaniels doing a great job as the. Oc for the niners. Okay last question here before we get to the voice mail. This is from andrew. Wisconsin he asks. Coach mcveigh mentioned watching college. Football to find innovative plays in a episode. I was wondering if you could tell us which college coaches he regularly watches and find to be the most innovative. Perhaps the next cliff kingsbury but probably not as handsome nice Lincoln riley is a guy that i've i've loved watching what they've done since he's been there and then i kind of mentioned it last week but whether it was a couple years back when you watch joe burrow and what joe brady did a phenomenal job with all their explosives in in success in efficiency offensively and then you know you look at last year arguably one of the best college football offenses in the history of the game was what alabama did and i thought. Steve sarkisian was outstanding. Obviously they had a lot of great players. But you know you talk about from. A schematic standpoint putting pressure on people being able to do a lot of different things whether it's tempo formations motions As of creating explosives being balanced running and throwing the football they were as fun to watch as as anybody in and that was One of the offenses that definitely stood out with all the great things that they did. Do you have coaches who like studying smaller schools. You don't have time to watch. Hey sean you to see what norfolk state is doing. Good question yes. There's always the element of all right. This is something that fits within the framework of our offense. I thought cliff alluded to it last week. It's like all right. You might see a lot of good plays. But you gotta i ask yourself. Does it fit with your personnel. And then how you wanna foundationally operate and philosophically operate and so there's a lot of guys. We got a lot of coaches in our building that love football and they know how we want operate and if they see something It doesn't matter where it's coming from no good idea or no idea No matter what level is not good enough to be stolen from us like i said All the best coaches are the best thieves and we absolutely have pulled from a bunch of different places. But you know when you're studying a lot of these college players our coaches will tag good ideas. They'll say you got to see some of this stuff. I love them. These different places are are checking out and you know we definitely have Have stolen a handful of those ideas without a doubt can you. Can you name one. I would love this if there was a smaller school or there wasn't a big program where you're like. Hey i saw this from this team. That'd be really neat. To hear do they know. Are they watching the rams one day and they're like oh that's my play depends on if i say you know it depends on when it was run. We can usually go back in fact. Check it based on the dates. You can really see who ran at first. But i'll tell you one of the guys you know who's now the. Oc at pittsburgh are at at pittsburgh. And i think he was the o. C. at the university of pit is matt canada when he was running all these different chet sweeps and types emotions pre snap. That was something that i remember seeing a couple years ago. Some of our coaches brought that to my attention and that had somewhat of an influence on what we started really doing an eighteen. And you know even going back to.

You're just halloween war with good people. you're really working hard in and one thing i look for from people are you are you from and and i heard that a long time ago and so i just always tried to solve problems. Wants to make Crushable you can. You can complain about them or you. Just try to solve them. And and that's what's fun about the job. Se of young. Children should be proactive. If worked for a quarterback to work for coordinator Of trying to guess what may be coming down down at some point. Just be corrected so when they ask you coach i'll get it off a tournament in. They're impressed by now. Just just do your best. The best control beater best coordinator tiny. She can be whatever it is Enjoy that in great opportunity. As long as you're doing that began just problems you know. Don't really die. That throws a ton of problems. It everybody figured out just to figure out what so if you if you had to say i love that. Are you a problem solver. A problem maker. that's so good. I'm definitely steal that one from zack. If you had to say two things are you know it might not be just too but when you're looking and you're filling out your staff. These are the things that are non-negotiable for all these other coaches out here. These are the things that you'd better check the box. In order to be in alignment with what we're looking for as cincinnati bengals coaches and i know we share the same values. You know with rams. What would you say. Those things are well number.

"Ounce situation versus down. And and they're they're gonna zero. Let's remember he's into two imacs protection and receiver in such as signal. He says omar for marcus homes along. He's knows what that means. So unfortunately it was one of those is. You're seeing it unfold. And sometimes you see on. It just happens instant and in marcus. Thanks the other way in the in in just it's those moments from in that's just part of educating sony's these employers thumbs there's veteran players a that hurdle auditor knowledgeable on occasion study is the games and shows the best business that go back through the tv copies and making sure that he cellcom self and no one would go towards shore and and we do the same thing that was just situations ending just waffles. That's actually really fascinating. Sean what does that mean so you watch the broadcast copy. You'll put the volume up to hear any audibles picked up. We have coaches. I mean because you're mandated where you gotta mike either your center or one of your guards so nowadays in especially last year they know. Yeah so. that's a big thing. That defensive coaches do around the league. So you'd better be in tune with what's being said and some of those things. But i can remember you know i talk to zach after because it was around the time that Marcus had just recently gotten a baltimore. I mean matt talked about his experiences when he was with the titans. Going against the ravens. I mean i could go on and on about you know when Wink martindale slit me and he got some calls that i have a lot of regrets on but long story. Short finley had gotten to a good decision. The problem was is that marcus could hear this and he had been in our system so he knew i mean his eyes. Light up like some saucers like all right. I'm about to get a quick speed out. You gotta be kidding me And so i just felt bad for my guy because that easily could have happened to us and know players. They do a good job. And it's just like zack. Said it's a learning op and all of us. There's there's moments every single week as a playcaller not one but multiple usually where you're saying man. I wish i'd put our guys in a better spot. And fortunately when you got guys like like the boroughs of the world or you know like the stafford's they can kinda bail you out and make your right If you're wrong but you want to try to be more right than you are wrong. In terms of getting some of the looks and helping facilitate from a player's perspective zach Can you give us your best. Sean mcvay story. Is there a fun one that maybe we could tell. That's not here listeners. You could hear it. We'd all night but you know he's got this office at midnight on a on a tuesday night game tonight drop by board. And he's selling on that moment you know. I'm i'm tired on all sleep in disguise Success even as an office because is it is energy in this but one thing sean does not like is when we talk in the install meetings and saw europe they're installing there is nothing me somewhat is just how little side conversation might just a coach player but but we're not and Someone that didn't seem to get. That was before i just you know i don't know bashar drugs way back is in you get after. It's all good but i. I don't want that category. I just got moshe slow seat next thinking this harmless jonathan zone and probably the first insulting asked strong something on my paper saying something to me and i can just see. Sean to shooting daggers. So i i'm trying to talk that keeps talking and so shaun you blast as being. Okay all right. The next day dumped becomes more so he army get. I have a real matt and this is my soul format. Who's who's the greatest was genuine person on the planet but for whatever reason he really likes talking installed meetings and i have no idea so i this is quickly spot and remind me and i don't know i i remember matt making me wanna yes. Would i feel like matt would intentionally piss me off though. Do you remember on the headsets. Like he's ready to change the game plan after we go like three and out. I'm like bet you've seen three plays just relaxing. Let us get through a series before you start. It's like the wedding crashers. It's the it's the second is the beginning of the i corps and you want to throw a hail. Mary lacks big. Guy in matt is is this guy. He knows more formation about the opponent replacing. It is unbelievable. This guy had soon as they business consumer it he retains and can use it as advantage and he'd be on the press box in the game and say something to offer my position. Sean hannity sean. Now save gus actually saw he play should from shootout great as you'd scandal and You need that. Like sean needs. That need someone to tell talking in. You don't have to agree with it. Sometimes you might agree with it three minutes later because you just don't want to hear the moment but you sit there and damore.

"You Overall, what are the chances of the Patriots trading up in this draft tonight? I think they're decent Nick, but and I've been working my way through this. I'm like halfway through sort of my Draft preview column, and this is the part where I sort of left off before preparing for the podcast. So this is I keep coming back to that Lombardi snippet, where he talks about this player is top 10 at his position in the NFL, And say that say say the quarterbacks are overdrafted. We know that they're going to be they're going to push down some good players. When I think about the patriots who I'm trying to think, who do, I think they have that sort of grade on in the draft and I'm not, I'm not completely done with my list, but the list that I have are I think Trevor Lawrence? I don't think any of the other quarterbacks are really right there. As far as top ten tomorrow. I just don't, I don't think you can put Zach Wilson there. I don't think that you can put Mac Jones there. I think by the end of the season, they could get there but I'm talking about, no doubt tomorrow. Walk in the NFL, their top ten at their position. I think it's Trevor Lawrence. I think it's Kyle Pitts. I think it's jamarr Chase. I do think Devante Smith would have that type of grade for them testing. I think that at least Rashawn Slater at offensive tackle, if not Sewell. And I think Patrick sartan at cornerback and this is my thinking, Nick. And let me give me your thoughts on this In my conversation with people around the Patriots, I keep hearing, we just need to go get a couple of good players that can help us. Right away that like that's the goal, you know, get a couple of good guys and then whatever have you in later on the draft, you know, fill some special teams in-depth, spots, whatever. In terms of the Patriots. Getting those guys..

"Buddy Dalton Miller from 1:05 through the fan and you can also catch his work and the pro football network draft stuff. You still have blue chip scouting as well. I used to work with them. So I own it, but I don't work on it to anything with your delegate. I have delegated it completely. All I do is that when new guys join office, they asked me they say hey can we get him joined up and then I have to get into the the website in Squarespace and send them the permission to be able to work on the site wage. So and so that's literally all I do I even paid they started doing merch I didn't know about it. They started doing merch and I bought a sweatshirt the company that I own. All right. Well if you want to buy a sweatshirt go to Blue Chips county.com Dalton, let's talk about the draft. It's just a few weeks away. Who do you have your eye on for the Cowboys and not just at 10 but just in general who are guys that you're like, okay, these are guys that could fall into them at any round that you like. Yeah. So I think that's the guy that I'm most, you know, kind of excited about being there for the Cowboys specifically in around 2, because I think in round one, there's actually a lot of possibilities pain a soul might actually somehow faithful to the Dallas Cowboys. Really you think so, yes. So there's kind of a two-horse race there if Cincinnati stupidly in my opinion goes with jamarr Chase over. So Panic, so then in in that instance, so the only other real option most likely is Carolina. What about Atlanta at 4? You don't think Atlanta goes for how long they could but Atlanta's offensive line is actually not too too bad and they've spent a bunch of assets there. I think Atlanta might go met might be the team for Kyle pads is Atlanta Atlanta. Also just go for quarterback and get Matt Ryan's future replacement. And for that specifically I think that's a good spot for trail ants but if he doesn't go to one of those two teenage any should but there's a real possibility that he doesn't there's also just a real possibility that the NFL likes the the Comfort level that were Sean Slater brings over the upside of panic. So and now I think appendix was already a better player than Rashawn Slater is but Rashawn Slater's got a very transparent floor and it's very very dead. Hi, and so the the words you're going to get with Rashawn Slater is a very good guard at the NFL level and somebody who I think can play tackle too. Pretty high level. I don't think he's ever get a top, you know, five left hand full in the NFL or top-five right tackle, but I think you can be you know in that six to ten range consistently but pending sought 10:00 is the name that I'm kind of circling for the Cowboys off at 44. He fought to Mellow van wheel that is the quarterback from Syracuse..

"Quarterback. And i think too when you have you divas are going to get beat offenses yards. I certainly understand that that's the way. Nfl but exhibited howard situation where he was gonna want a bigger contract especially when you look at by jones contract and what he did last year. I mean. I don't think you can blame him in the slightest known it's inevitable. I mean let's be awesome aiming howard probably the best player on the team right. I mean this is the most talented part of the dolphins have so to think that he's sitting here not even getting top money on the team at that position. I mean you had to think there was a little bit of you know in moscow because no one truly knows. But i mean you're exerting howard you're sitting at number one corner and they just go out there and pay a guy infrequency last year when you thought the cornerback position you know it was. It wasn't in she. I yeah and you try. And that's the biggest thing to me i mean. Do you think the dolphins when they first brought by jones when they signed draft a new nominee. I mean to me that just led to you. Know they're gonna try to do things and have a little bit of wiggle room with existing however that new contract collins but with the way knowing monogamy with how great exhibiting howard played. I don't think you get rid of him. Unless you're trading him for a king's ransom but Yeah i don't fault him one bit because again when you look across the other side of the field byron jones is making significantly more and he. He did not play that way and i. I was a huge fan of that. Signing i thought byron jones was one of the best you know cover corners and football. And i'm not gonna isn't based on that one year you know based on off season where if we can sit here and news excuses for some of these rookie players. Not able to get acclimated to assistant. I mean who knows what that did. A byron jones going from assistant dallas to what they had to hear miami. But i you know when you get paid that money to hell with excuses. We need to see more byron jones in year. Two or you know. May we're talking about him being cut next season so No shame at offer saving howard one that big contract in the year. He had after ten touchdowns. Pay demand ten touchdowns. Ted ted ten interceptions. Yeah he would add ten touchdowns. They played wide receiver. Like i said that's what i was thinking. You're honestly probably and i literally chopped off the head of this whole thing. This conversation really comes from Was barry jones the most disappointing quarterback in football football outsiders listed him as yes he was the most disappointing and it is important to keep in mind. That most disappointing does not mean the worst right he was targeted. Only seventy three times offense new throwing them except when they did you know at the end of the year at their car rolling out desperately looking for nelson agar for him to do that Cardinals game we brought a couple of times. He was roasted there. But like i said. I i think he is a big part of this team and i think examining howard is too. I think cornerback a position. They just value a whole line. Miami and it seemed to work out with how well the defense played last year A lot of these issues whether it spire jones not playing up to our exhibit howard sitting out or buying a new contract or want to be traded can fix and one simple way and that's if no monogamy has bounceback second season. And there's i've seen nothing bell tell me otherwise that he won't have confidence in in how can develop being the youngest guy in football last year. That that's a little feather in your cap josh. One question here before we wrap it up here. Infant cider radio The jacob i want to ask you it's not a need for the miami dolphins. I think so. I mean i think it has to be something that they look at him and we liked. What nicknamed last year right. But i believe he is. A is a restricted. free agent. This year unrestricted i. I'm not sure what the tournament. Yeah it's it's one of those. But i think they have to find someone to play at spot and again i liked nickname did but I think they could definitely upgrade that position as they can. A bunch of positions and that secondary victim was definitely the highs of the high and low because there have been times throughout his two year career. We're you see him. And you think. A stud cornerback. And then there are other times where he kinda gets out there so again. I think he'd be a good guy. Bring back. I think he can play a little bit of slot and boundary. Obviously i think they wanna keep 'em inside inside the hash marks there but i still think it'd be very interesting to see what the dolphins at the slot quarterback position. Because i you linebacker there is a need there. There's anita edge rusher. And i'm interested to see how the dolphins prioritize things and i think it's gonna come. I don't know how quickly it's going to happen in free agency but before the draft. We're gonna have a really clear picture of where the dolphins sink. Their strengths are and that's actually really interesting. Part of the offseason is that time between the draft and free agency where teams are putting themselves together. And it's tough because you can't go you know the first two months of free agency and not sign you know. Let's say edge rusher because you think someone will be there in the draft because that's just not how things work out guys get pick different times people move up or it's people move down board so this is a really interesting time. We're about to jump into josh. That's really all i had tonight. It's been a blast. I really enjoy recording this. Show with you if you want. "Back come. Oh shit my mic museum houses. Talking to the whole thing we we let in. So we've we've been hearing things long lines of people saying you know Shawn watson is the locker room cancer and here. He is on the same day. I'll read a story from the houston chronicle about how he fed ten thousand people as people are struggling with with the snow down there and their powers going out and then you see other people leaving. Houston you c. J. watt asking for release. You see high up members of the organization resigning. We see the fact that chris. Greer literally terminated this franchise from existence. They may go back to the oilers. They need to rebrand. You need to put a mustache on the logo. Or then you say houston texans now with no fat something to make that organization stops thinking and the that that stench has boiled over the shawn watson and people talking down about. This guy is mind boggling to me because he has never done anything but but said the right things done the right things and he will continue to do that. josh i do want to bring up the peter king proposal for the on watson because this is the most thing i have ever seen in my life. Miami trades offensive in christian. Wilkins quarterback Below first round picks in twenty twenty one third overall in two thousand and twenty three and second round picks and twenty twenty one and twenty. twenty two for watson. I did kinda give where it's the lady she's like thinking and then she goes now. Maybe no no well. I saw the one first round. Pick in twenty twenty one. My eyebrows mcgirt. What does he know that we don't why. How is it going to be easy. And then when he said twenty twenty three. That's when i kind of smashed the panic but because that's too far down the road from me. If it was twenty twenty two might bring would have been like a fine. We'll worry about that next year. Especially with adults trade down and having a pick this year's pretty thrilling but then you look at those two second round picks to and it's really frustrating for the fact that the dolphins have a very high second round pick and twenty twenty one shutout. Houston texans to give up wilkins to give up to of was topped by pick. Wilkins was the top thirteen and then in theory. Three other high picks. If not for josh. Now chief i still on board if it's like to if you want to do too i this year first next year to a and throwing a third or something i'm in but but once you start adding more players i that's from doug support for the following passion comes from lexus celebrating the obsessions that drive us to go all in from enthusiasts of all different spaces. "Today. Locker room changing the way we talk sports jake yesterday. The big news. All the talk around twitter was all about albert buren. What he said in his monday morning quarterback if it was not that. I'm sorry it was a mail bag of some sort. But he said that he spoke with a team a source the most interesting anecdote. I could possibly give you on him from the weekend. Mobile comes from the heisman trophy. Winning receiver devante smith and this is regarding mack jones and to a ton of a low one team. S smith pointblank. Would you take to a ton of ore jones. The question was barely finished before. Smith answered mack jones. He was bold and definitive about it. As i heard it. So you know this thing has caught a tailspin. This thing is just all over the news and you know is some people are taking this as a knock against a ton of little summer seeing this devante. Smith is boosting up mack. Jones who. I mean this is a guy who does not have an nfl team. This guy that has to prove to those teams that he is that elite quarterback that he is the potential franchise game changing quarterbacks to some of these teams are looking for so. I don't know how to take this. Jake shed some light on your thoughts on this because This to its envelope mack. Jones thing is definitely definitely raising some eyebrows around the nfl. When i look at things like this. I i love to read twitter responses. A lotta time. I'll be the first to tell you that you never go through the responses till it got tweet on twitter especially from someone like and our Who has Hundreds of thousands of followers But i really liked to look at the replies to this because there is some interesting points. Brought up there Josh who was smith quarterback won the heisman mack jones. So that right. There tells me so much about what smith is thinking. At the time you know he just coming off his career year. He is the first receiver in god. I don't even know how long to win the heisman trophy and then i also think it's interesting. The fact that he then added he was bulled definitive about it. I mean that that right there it just it just seems like a really dramatic way to Highlight this question. I wouldn't put too much stock into it. I think you really hit the nail on the head. When you said mack jones does not have a team right now But it does kind of he no really weird and tough and challenging picture for two because all this guy has done is sale the rank things do all the right things in swallows hell over here training posting pictures about that. I think you wrote a story about that. Or i did But but it seems like he's just keeps getting stuck at the worst place at the wrong time. You know what i mean. The injury in college of crime fitzpatrick having to battle him. Then you become the starter. And he's comes in and plays games. And then you get the justin. Herman has a better year outta worst team. And then you get this coming from smith. I mean we've spent weeks talking about how smith said he would love to run it back with tool and how they're such great friends and who knows this could even be a smokescreen of some sort coming from a team. I don't know but it it's annoying. It's a little frustrating. When your guy is the one put down a little bit But i tried not to put too much stock into it. And i hope to as either in that's a million dollar thing that i really don't think too is put too much stock into this and it was not me. That oracle was -cerned so shout out to him but let's be honest to look thick as heck in those in. Yes exactly what you wanna see. And that's kind of what a lotta people alluded to you know. Sure he struggled a little bit in two thousand twenty but that was a rookie season. You know he didn't get go through those traditional offseasons. He was rehabbing while a lot of these guys are balking up and getting bigger so it's awesome to see to out there but let's be honest. I mean that's what you wanna see from quarterback so it's not like that some ground breaking news and i don't know that this truly some ground breaking news. I think the thing that stood out to me. Most i admittedly said like once. I read that i was sad and just wanted to like i was a little bit distraught because to me i mean again. I like to a lot. Probably more than a lot of people did as a prospect. But i thought he at least for my eyes on a different tier the mack jones. So when i first heard distant i immediately thought wow man if even mac jones is anywhere close to it to is is a little bit of a reservation air. But i again. I think this was more of him. Just building up a guy who needs to get drafted. And i think they're probably all sitting there behind the scenes laughing their ass off about it because i don't think any way did devante smith. When he was asked a question. It was going to turn this huge thing that it has become so huge thing. You think i. I don't think it should. I mean if he truly thinks that. Mac jones is the better quarterback. I mean that to me is a dolphins fan is a guy who truly propped up to a ton of a low and still believes and obviously quarterback. If i hear that and you're telling me mack. Jones i mean that either to me means mack jones. The hell lot better than i and many other people believe or two isn't quite the quarterback that we thinking you know in in either of those instances I gotta take take a step back as ed. That's that's pretty big to take in and it's so fun to be a fan of football because there are two seasons right. There's the regular season there's off season and to be a fan and bolt are completely different. Right everything is wild right now. Because this time last year everybody wanted to say that you know tool was the next drew brees and if he comes back from the injury he's going to be the best prospect of all time and and all this other jazz and here we are year later and he's swept under the rug for you know the mac jones of the world right. I just think that the roller coaster ride that is is draft. Season is so wacky and the fact that everybody had been word part of it too right we wanna get our spin. We want to hear other people's spin and that just kinda circulates all draft talk and josh. You're typing it into a google doc. Right now i was just about to bring it up. I mean this wasn't the only a wide receiver who's about to enter the draft. That was a little bit of news in terms of the miami dolphins this week. Yeah i mean. I don't wanna say it was a blockbuster but are good pals over pro football network released this little nugget and i mean i don't know jake i mean it's it's pretty big news in here was from tony. Pauline mailbag. It was posted earlier today on a full football network dot com check them out also mock draft simulator. Question was any. Nfl rumors of the dolphins could really draft swell at three. Despite taking offensive tackles and the top forty last year. Tony responded with not if jomar chase is available to them. So i mean that's pretty big news because a lot of people see here and they connect the dots with and davante smith. You mentioned it on this coming off this huge record setting season. But you're marsh as kailash year and a lot of people. Forget about him because he did opt out but here this you know. Not if jamal chases available to pass on generational. I'm knows quotation. You're passing on a player like swell for anyone. I mean you gotta make sure that he is that guy in to hear that they think jamal. Is that guy to think that you know they have as a top three player. I mean let's me. I shake the only way they would not get your marches if this is true. Is a team trays up to two. Or if you know. The newer justice jets decided take him or if of course you know or if of course this is all smoke and mirrors. So if just did there would be chris greer If the jets took jabbar at two. Because greer would he he blow up another franchise. He do to the houston texans. But they'd be doing to nineteen because team would call for the quarterback and the dolphins will be stockpile draft picks. I thought this was such a cool nugget. Because this os. The one thing that the miami dolphins have been at since brian flores has took over and that is making sure nobody has any idea. What the hell they're going to do..

"Rid of all uncertainty because even if the thing about drafting running back high the thing about drafting running back at all as people think they just drop off trees in their great. I mean the last time. The dolphins had an absolutely elite running back in his prime was ricky williams guest. Ronnie brown was good. He suffered So some bad buck in terms of injuries but but people like to get this idea in their head the running back. They're so easy to come across and he asked me for a couple games resolve savannah. Men have a couple of games at the end of the season. Myles gaskin looked awesome. That's for sure but it's also important to keep in mind. There's a big stretch. They were myles. Gaskin was doing the there was a four there there. There was no ceiling that that could really carry that team into the end zone. There was no stealing that could carry the offense deemed by game. So when i see someone like aaron jones what. The dolphins delvin lagged mets at playmaker. That is that touchdown ability than just hasn't been around. I don't think it's fair to sit here and say that running backs are a dime a dozen because that was the case the dolphins would have had a better running game or the last ten years. Lamar miller was alright. Addle in other guys struggled with injuries and he was at the lead shortly after his time in. Miami was up what's our. Why can't i think of his name. Two thousand sixteen carried the team pickle. J. j. j. j. guy he was he went to the eagles. Shortly after that year in miami he was never the same right so so. There's a tweet over the dolphins and are truly struggle. This yes myles. Gaskin is a great story for seventh round pick has been a legitimate steel however what aaron jones does in both the passing game and the running game to help young quarterback to kind of seems like an ideal situation for him to go to again. You can look at the leon bell deal and issue there but this is going to be money. That's gonna put them apart with joe mixing and derrick henry. Think the bangles or the titans are sitting here regretting those decisions especially the bangles. They were able to do that. Because you have a rookie quarterback not even a rookie sophomore quarterbacks of this point excuse me but but those rookie deals. That's you can kind of mix and match where. I don't think the the price tag of a twelve thirteen fourteen. Mill is is insane as some people are trying to make it out to love. How you bring up ricky williams because that really is you know the truly last elite running back dolphins hat and i think even in that article where i wrote it. I was like if they bring aaron jones in. Let's be honest. This is probably the best running back that this team has had since ricky williams and self but again it just it changes it changes every day and it does the same thing with the draft. I mean you're right. I don't know which you know. I'm sitting here. I'm saying i. I would not spend that money. But you're sitting here making a pretty damn good argument as to why they should so It's like with everything this off season. you know. There's different tiers to the level excitement that you'd have if if they signed player. Extra draft player experts in the day. I mean there's very few options here that would truly have you upset. And i think that just is a testament to the way the dolphins truly set up this rebuild and have this team in positions so i guess that's probably that with aaron jones. Unless you have something else say. Let's jump into an ad in we'll hop into big news from yesterday. Albert breer and davante smith support for this episode comes from locker room the app. That's changing the way we talk. Sports locker room is a sports fan. Dream come true. It's alive audio.

Ronnie brown miami Albert breer ricky williams yesterday aaron jones Gaskin davante smith Lamar miller seventh round Mill Two thousand J. j. j. j. myles Myles gaskin Addle derrick henry twelve thirteen fourteen both Miami

"We have a byron jones dilemma. We have a richmond. Webb pushed to the hall of fame. Welcoming defense radio. I'm jake mendel joining me. Josh house and we all these different topics. You're going to dive in today to shawn watson miami dolphins saying they were going to be in the suit stakes for all. That is kinda tossed aside because josh. We're going to record this last night last night being monday night but here we are on tuesday. We pushed back a day because clearly we look into her crystal ball and we could see that berry jackson. The miami herald was gonna port. That not only are the miami dolphins interested in aaron jones. Free agent running back for the green bay packers but aaron jones is also interested in coming to miami so with all that said. I've been listening to a bunch of comments reactions from twitter from finsider dot com and josh. I know we talked about this a couple of weeks ago. But here we are. Free agency is slated to begin march seventeenth. How are you. Would you feel about the miami dolphins making move for someone like aaron jones. While jake i mean what what a way to to kick off this podcast me like you said we were going to record last night. We weren't really sure what we're gonna talk about now here. We are the bunch of different topics. But how would i feel. I mean i think i feel the same way i did. You know when. I wrote an article a couple of weeks ago and it was that the dolphins should not break the bank for jones. I think that's where. I remain dead set aaron jones. I mean this guy is golly talent. I mean you can talk about the touchdowns guy puts up. he's a touchdown machine. Let's be honest and he can do a little bit of everything. But you're hearing twelve million dollars so reports this at fifteen million dollars. I mean this is in our money you know. I can't sit here and pinch pennies because ken dolphins draft the running back. I mean ken. Chris greer trade free running back. I mean they failed miserably last year. So maybe this is the best approach but for me. I think there's better ways to use that money. But what would i do. If aaron jones was given a huge contract by the dolphins i think we would both be over. The moon excited an ib trying to trade from every fantasy league. Because let's be honest. I mean again. This is probably top five running back in the nfl and and he's going to get pay what he's worth. I just again don't know if it's in the dolphins best interest to be that team to break the bank josh. I got a couple of questions for you here. cory littleton. Linebacker for the raiders. Are the raiders in salary cap. Hell because a cory littleton atlan becker. No I hope not about the cleveland. Browns sheldon richardson. Interior defensive linemen are the browns and salary cap. Hell because of him. No where are you going this. how about how about. Let's try this one. Devin mccourty safety for the patriots. The patriots southern cal because of him no but they are in salary cap. How does that does. But it doesn't so point is these are players that are slated to make around the same amount that aaron jones would get paid under the quote unquote let me put up the projected contract that pro football focus on. I actually didn't have it on page. So i'm gonna kinda keep rolling here Fourteen point six that they had projected to make last year deal. Twenty five million guaranteed roughly twelve million dollars a year. The guys i just gave you all make from eleven point. Five million dollars a year to twelve point five million dollars a year and a lot of the reaction is seen and rightfully. So you know. We are so used to the miami dolphins being in a situation where the cap has been a total total disaster. And you don't want to ruin that whole time. The miami dolphins haven't had a great running back so these two things. I think we need to put into context. That twelve million dollars per year contract the twenty five million guaranteed probably makes it where the dolphins get more wiggle room. This would be less than joe mixing this would be less than derrick henry. The dolphins signed this deal. So when i put into the into my brain the idea of the dolphins signing running back i instantly go. I remember guys like zac. Stacy i myles gaskin supper round. Pick aaron jones on a different level. This man is twenty six years old. He just bawled out for two straight seasons sixteen rushing touchdowns and twenty nineteen was the most in the nfl of the dolphins this year. Average two point six touchdowns as a game that was twentieth in the league joshua. So when i look at someone like aaron jones what he can do to this offense not only. Does it help to have a stud when you have a rookie and or young quarterback under center but josh the dolphins biggest weakness is inside the twenty. They struggled so much score inside. The twenty yard by last season and aaron jones based on his track record would do a wonderful job at fixing up that area of concern for the team. Yeah they get foot. Forty three total touchdowns throughout four seasons. I believe it was over. What three thousand x amount yards. I mean this guy again. He can do it all but to me. I think it comes to just you know how close to the draft you know. The dolphins have four top fifty draft picks. We know then. Go out there. And they get nausea harrison travis. I'm going to write an article about your bones say williams there are some prospects in this draft class but again or any of those on aaron jones level. I i don't know and again. I don't know that the dolphins you know we saw last year they completely avoided the running back position. They thought they get get their with jordan. Howard they make traits for deandre washington map read. It didn't work out. I mean. I did the math. Aaron jones at forty three touchdowns over his career and those guys i just mentioned had forty eight combined so i mean that just goes to put you on what type of level aaron jones is at so again. It's not my money again dolphins. They desperately need a running back. No one can argue that but just knowing that. We're this close draft. Knowing the dolphins. I put themselves in a very nice position to address the running. Back room That's why probably use that money to address a you know maybe a pass rusher or maybe a wide receiver but shaky throw an interesting name. There myles gaskin. And i talked about this on the podcast. I mentioned eric. Studs will play a huge role in developing myles gaskin. And you know. He did average four point one yards per carry. No he did look like a pretty damn good running back when he was out there. So you know a little bit of that plays into this. But i don't know jake that you know what you saw from myles gaskin. What you saw from salvin akhmed we saw is running backs. Can you know take you out and running for a talent like jones. So it's gonna come down to you know literally if you're sitting here and telling me we can get him for eleven point five million dollars. I mean that's a lot different to me than what some people reporting. I mean when i check spo track at fourteen point six a few weeks ago. So if that's changing i mean. That's a pretty significant change here for me but again not my money and air jones would be a helluva town for the dolphins to bring in the south beach one more so i still don't necessarily know where i stand on this but i do find myself talking talking myself through the situation of signing a running back like an aaron jones and what kind of just does for the situation the team and another number that i think is worth pointing out is You mentioned last year. They brought in matt. Brita they brought in jordan howard. I two guys that they signed jordan howard frequency paid. Matt breed is three point five mill. Along with trading leah draft. Pick on pick to the san francisco. Forty niners josh. Both of those things combined is about nine point five million dollars and then you put on a draft pick and and i dunno to draft pick seconds worth worth especially if we're going with a fifth rounder fifth rounder them pan out all the time but i mean nine million it. Would you pay that. Four or five million dollars to upgrade to someone like aaron jones to get.

Four jake mendel twentieth aaron jones Aaron jones nine million tuesday twenty yard Five million dollars twenty five million Twenty five million fifteen million dollars Chris greer cory littleton jones twitter twelve million dollars byron jones josh Devin mccourty

"Know it so it it's such an interesting year for or the draft from you know a lot of standpoints but you know the one thing that you know the thing that I think people all kind of agree on is that you know the two top quarterbacks Joe burrow into a Tagovailoa are are legitimate but then the more you look at them Stewart I I you know I realize brocade have new store keeper I mean with the numbers that he put up last year were just mind boggling and two is had nothing but incredible success but then when you look at these football teams L. issues wine was awesome L. shoes Baxter awesome jamarr chase might be the best receiver in college football is not even in this draft Bama's got all kinds of riches on the line of receiver running back I'm just wondering he E. if you think both those I don't think Perot or tag or to us or our total locks to be great NFL quarterbacks how do you see it well I'm of the opinion that if it weren't for the hip injury to it would be it should be a no brainer number one pick I mean they even viewed that way before the injury and I know Joe burrow probably has most impressive performances in the post season but you know it wasn't like they were considered neck and neck before he got injured and now it's just like everybody thinks you know everybody just it's like a universally accepted that they reversed themselves did have the best seat in any college quarterback ever had but it was a one season and there are a lot of a kind of perfect storm circumstantial he said between the you know the unbelievable heresy refuse working with this very revolutionary packing that just you know we could figure out how to defend the scheme that you're Brady brought in there yes to works with me to as receivers we just mention two of them are unbelievable as well but man like he his his body of work goes back further and it was I'm not three full seasons with three seasons of playing at a very high level and he just he always blew me away you know when I would see him in person the waiter footballers just imagine different it just comes out of hand different than I've seen other guys so I I have full faith in him and I'm not ruling over out by any means I just think there's a little bit more hesitation there in terms of are we sure wasn't kind of a one year wonder things a wise man once told me if you'd go to if you're struggling to value when quarterbacks if they seem to be equal take total number of starts in college and to have three years Joe burrow the two years one of them really good but to as you mentioned is body works the work was outstanding thank you for your time and glad to hear that you and yours are doing well hopefully we can talk to you soon all right thanks so much guys thank you Sir very much the remainder elementary cheaply athletics.
