Okay we're gonna take people behind the curtain. The military block jalen. Rose almost died. I called nine nine one one. I didn't i didn't push. I didn't push call but had nine one one on my screen because i was worried about from the heimlich maneuver. No you saw mill operator somewhere around here. What happened so big. Shout to those that join meal ajilon along with jacoby as we were doing you know some pre-game love to the people that supported the show and instead of me like going to the bathroom like you know getting ready for the show or kind of fix in my hair or whatever in the bathroom says i only have like ten or fifteen minutes before we actually start shooting. I just do it on camera. And i think it's funny too because You know people just like to come behind the curtain and so one of these idea was put some cream on my hands. When i was in my hair right and so when i know i your hair is a mystery to me and the rest of the world right. Creaming your hands office cream in my hair right little conditioner cream. Whatever and so a star biting my nails and i drank some water and all of a sudden we were doing the segment and felt like a little boilermaker in my throat. Blue light all trying to go down at the same time. And i'll let you re if you all. And then i was like i was looking at the camera to see. If there's gonna put like a panel of something. I was gonna sneak and grab some water but as my turn atop.

"Jalen rose. You are a former college basketball and nba star you're now an analyst and nba countdown co host of your own show jalen and jacoby and you have never been timid about making bold statements. It is safe to say but we are here to talk to you today about one of the craziest sounding boasts. I've ever heard anybody make and it is that you specifically are the forefather of the name. Jalen i'm definitely the oldest jalen on definitely the eldest jalen. There was a time in my life while actually got tease for the nate. There's nobody more brutally honest then kids in the elderly imagine being author four fifth grade skinny kid with patches on his pants and bumps on his face people. Tease me about my name so very much. It became a topic of conversation and got me into a lot of altercations. Actually one of the things my mother did is. She told me that the name jalen was a superpower and so again i give my mother the entire credit for creating the name. There's so many people throughout the world that are making up names for their children. She made a one. That actually stuck

"To be out into the future and we're going to do something here. We're gonna call prisoner of the moment. So it's going to pertain to this matthew stafford by now we've talked about it all morning long as soda over the weekend schefter reporting saturday night the lions trading stafford to the rams for jared goff and whole bushel of draft picks at third rounder. This year a first rounder year. A first rounder the year after that. So the rams pushing their chips to the center of the table and as i've said all morning i think we all have to. I guess this is not fair to just say look. We all see how it plays out. Obviously we will see how it plays out as a lot of pressure on the rams. So i'm going to be the first one to do it. Prisoner of the moment. I am a professional overreact. Or i have been for thirty years so i will say it right now. The los angeles rams dan orlovsky or going to win the nfc championship next year. The rams and your buddy stafford with that defense and the weapons and that coach will be redeemed are going to win the nfc. Dan orlovsky what do you think. I'm so proud of you. Yeah green. I love that and i'm right there with you. I think that. I think that this move puts them here with green bay and tampa bay now. All three of those teams have questions of what they're going to do this offseason. I just know this. This team in la la was four. Plays away from going to the nfc title game this year. If you mean to tell me someone out there means to tell me that matthew stafford isn't worth four plays in one football game as a difference.

"Time issues to a really asking. Patrick mahomes to do kind of something that we know. Tom brady didn't do that. Was win. the super bowl when you know your offensive line is going to get dominated right like that. That's the way that tampa bay defensive line is gonna look going into this game we're going to dominate this football game vida and jp shaq barrett mean william ghost in like those guys are going to dominate the football game. And so patrick mahomes. Can you like to me. This has got to be his best game ever. That's going to be so hard and tom brady. Those super bowl losses that we often reference. How did tom lose while the front four got after him. The front four in tampa bay will get after well. He kind of make another note in his legacy of. Yeah they did end. I still won. It gives him the chance to chase greatness and that's an excellent point tournament go ahead ryan. That's what's crazy. Like with patrick mahomes or patrick. Mahomes wins this game that's the backdrop to and not only was it against tom. Brady not only. Was tom brady in his ten super bowl. But you're playing against the team. Whose strip is now your weakness and so if you overcome that if you're able to win this game is about you. It is about your talent is about you and your obstacles in your adversity overcoming. Those things which patrick mahomes a tunnel and so i think for him right now. This is the defining moment of patrick mahomes career and exactly and quickly. Mike t i think the seven patriots the eighteen and team which at that time was the greatest offense the nfl had ever seen and they ran into the nascar package that giants defense and they scored ten points in the super bowl. That i think is the comparison to make here no question about it again. This is an opportunity for patrick mahomes to show his greatness. It's also a glimpse into the future. Because as his contract gets bigger and bigger over the next couple of years they're going to be playing with low round draft choices and free agents on that offense line so if they can overcome that great pass rush of tampa bay with five backups that will go to his greatness and what the thing that bears noting bruce arians could beat. Patrick mahomes by how he calls plays for. Tom brady if they could stay balanced. That will limit. Patrick mahomes is opportunities and that should be a big factor as well in the game or we got six days to work towards this dan. I promise and we will much more on this. What's at stake from a homes literally everything. Meanwhile we are doing super bowl memories today and ryan clark.

"Possibly could in a trade like this getting back to once a three. And jared now the reason they got back all that compensation in the former draft picks is because they're taking on jared goff's contract and all the guaranteed money but here's the interesting part about jared goff's contract while it's a burden now in two years the lions can move on from jared goff's contract without any dead cap money at all. So jared goff is you would think he would be industry for the next two years. They can get out of that contract in two years with no cap charge at all so well goth. Maybe something of a financial burden now. He's going to be a financial luxury in a couple of years. But if he plays well plays the way they want that becomes a moot point anyway because then they'll probably wind up doing a new deal. So yeah so it feels like there's low risk and high ceilings. So how do you feel about it. Give me some mr rose. Predominance gimme some prediction here. What are the lions going to be with. Jared goff is their quarterback for the next couple of years. I'm a. I'm a true die. Heart lions fan and i'm not gonna act like an jared. Goff is not going. Get us our first super bowl. That ain't happening. However there may be a chance as you guys mentioned getting a quarterback in his mid twenties who also played for the gm now with the lions while he was with the rant which means that he probably has a lot of competence jeered. Who's basically been disrespected by his former team and this is the irrational.

"That's the difference maker that that's the person that takes us from good to great. That's the guy that in the nfc where there are some question marks with the top of the green bay's and some of their players tampa bay in some of their players coming back for next season. Is there guy out there that we can point to and say in this offense. We got a chance to explode. That's the big thing is people need to realize. Kay the rams are under sean. Mcvay have this quarterback friend the offense. Well what does that even me. Right quarterback friendly first of all the play action pass wise. That quarterback friendly because defenses are constantly questioning how to play they. Is it a. is it a pass. So we're at an advantage number to protect the often. You protect a quarterback this a really good offensive line. So quarterbacks can thrive in three. The use of motion keeps defenses confused. That's a quarterback friendly offense now. We're going to put a guy in there. That's a top seven talent at the position guy in there that has never been in this environment. He's never had a top ten defense or excuse me he's had a top ten defense once one and eleven five that year. Okay never had run game. He's going to have one of the top five run games in the nfl. You're talking about taking a top seven talent at the position and putting it in one of the friendliest offense in the nfl. for a quarterback. I look at it and say. I expected aaron rodgers twenty nine or twenty twenty season. Not matthew stafford. Ooh that's big again. Rodgers this year forty eight touchdowns four picks and the number one seed in the nfc. I'm looking at the expression on. Ryan clark's face ryan. I'll give it to you on that thought and the very simple question they're going super bowl or bust for the rams. Do you think they can do it. I mean they can't do it because they were right there. Dan is is a very good guy right. Like dan is one of those extremely loyal great friends like things that dan text me. I'm like there's no way to. Dan is actually this nice. And it's what we're seeing with him talking about matthew stafford right now no do. I think matthew stafford is upgrade. Yes do i think he was in a bad situation in detroit for many years. Absolutely.

"Back here on this developing story. The news from the nba yesterday was not good hours before the draft klay thompson injuring his right leg during a workout with several nba in ally. He will undergo an mri this morning. The warriors are worried that it could be chilies injury holding out hope. It's not as serious as that. But if you're reading the tea leaves on social media all the reaction that seemed to be coming in. Yesterday it sounded very pessimistic. And so here's the great jalen rose with me here. I see the look on your face. What is your reaction. What what would this mean if this is a bad injury. I'm just really disappointed for clay in. this family. Hopefully is not a torn achilles. Which is being reported. I just remember seeing kevin durant with ice on his calf but ended up having an achilles injury. And it's really unfortunate. Because with the splash brothers healthy with draymond green. And you draft wise men the golden state warriors. We're going to catapult themselves back into contention greenie now without klay thompson. They'll be lower-half playoff team potentially in the western conference and now that he's had achilles injury is potentially in back to back seasons. We now start looking at the future of their team. Wondering ken bay now recapture championship glory. So it was really unfortunate for the golden state warriors and their fans if particularly going into the draft last night. No question about it so all. We'll do we'll sit and we'll hope for better news than some are anticipating and we should have that in a few hours

"I do are you. I'm sad this is almost over. Are you sad? I am sad. Because I'm so happy that the powers powers-that-be be rust documentary so instead of coming out in June came on April gave us some content especially on Sunday night making popcorn. I'm warming up hot sake like I turned into a whole thing. Jalen rose played thirteen seasons in the NBA. And he's also the cohost Jalen and Jacoby last dance after show podcast first off. I'm like instead of doing two per night. We should have just did one night. We had in Sundays so now. I'm like maybe we need to Craig Hodges ever sell. He'd be happy about that. So yeah I'm a little sad. This Sunday is going to be the last one popcorn and sake an air yes indeed school on Moran Bacher so I haven't seen the last two episodes but I have a sense. Probably GonNa Start with a ninety eight Eastern Conference Finals Course Bowls Pacers Jalen. You're there how do you remember feeling about your team's chances headed into that series against Chicago? So the unique thing about an athlete is that you have to have something that I call a rational confidence. I've sat in the locker room multiple days of my life and said that I was better than Michael Jordan. Kobe Bryant Shaquille O'Neal. Tim Duncan none of them could guard me. None of them had a chance. That's what you have to tell yourself or you might as well not put on shorts and the shoes and you know that you're the underdog and you're going against all time greatness so for us. We wanted to end the height. We wanted to shut up. All of the Jordan stands so on the floor. It was like we about the eliminate Mike in not have him. You know have two three peats but not on watching the doubt. I'm like how we let this do laying on the couch with potbelly drinking every night. Smoke CIGARS BEAT US. That's what I'm thinking. We should have beaten down more. May Be more bad news team like you're seeing that year. Your coach by Larry Bird who obviously knew Jordan very well from his playing days. What did he tell you guys about how to defend on him? Both you know one on one and as a team. What would he told me? Because I was coming off the bench I was a young pup. I had the plate. Percentages is that I'm GonNa put you on twenty three scorn you twice. I'm taking you out. That was instruction. And so I'm like all right cool I'm GonNa just follow him. I'm just thinking in my so I can stay in the game but he didn't want him to get into a rhythm is like soon he gets on away and if he gets into

"Hi guys given everything that is happening in the world right now. Most of us are buying things online. I saw that. At and T. Started doing to really help things. For those who want to buy a new phone or device online they are offering fast free non-contact livery and curbside pickup. So the online shopping is a simple and safe as possible on top of that. They have a flexible return policy. So you can shop eighties. You can visit. Att Dot Com to learn how to shop online from the safety of your home. Twenty four seven seventeen restrictions apply. So Jalen you go. Home after the heartbreaking loss in game seven of the Eastern Conference finals and you watch Jordan. Take on the jazz the finals. What is your strongest memory from watching the final? Set your well. My high school teammate. Who was in his wedding? Howard Eisley play for the Utah Jazz and I definitely was talking to him and we know this is what you do against. Mj I remember those phone calls. Yeah they do this they going to do that. Y'All y'all got this and so. I was rooting against him. 'cause I WANNA Utah to win and I wanted to see our way and so to watch him. Play that final game the way he did in the way it ended. I was like he'd go. He should never play again. The crossover at the top the push off free throw line followed through. Make the jump. Shot Down Will Superman go into your head when you wash Jordan hit. That shot over Brian. Russell I couldn't believe it because if you think about how to how they got the ball when Utah possession. Ike Day was about to win the game. Stealing seventeen seconds. Light was setup for history to look at mailmen and John Stockton. A differ Te. They don't get the love that they deserve by people because we retain count in. They never one one IF THEY WANNA. Elise beat Mike One time when we look at these scoreless or we see Karl Malone in the top three Oh man com long get more love on these top ten list or John Stockton and so for him to steal the ball coming baseline the way he did the team. They call time up the goal. WanNa WanNa make the game winning shot. Walk off at drop the mine. He should never have play basketball again. Kinky pushed off. No I don't that ain't a push off. Hey used to be a part of the ball on a a slot down or a block. He uses momentum against them. And he saying adopt. He was always on his toes. Byron Russell and that wasn't the first time he made a shot over him. They faced Utah back to back seasons in the previous season on the left wing. He made a game. Winning shot over Byron. Russell is well so it wasn't a push off a he uses momentum he just gave him a love tap. But you still got a knock it down and he did Jalen. Let's talk about the documentary as a whole for a moment. One of the themes of the documentary is sort of the cost of competitiveness. Right the cost of being a champion. Does it come at the expense of being a quote Unquote Nice Sky as we've seen in the documentary Jordan could be really hard on his teammates and he's aware of that and he's aware of his reputation. He got a little bit emotional about it. Now I think watching that at home. Everyone's like yeah. That's what it takes but most people aren't Michael Jordan as well. How do you regard his competitiveness? How he treated others and I guess whether other athletes can do the same thing many powerful people even if don't realize that they're doing it minimized dismiss and take for granted in a lot of cases the people that work with them and or against him that just that just a human nature that for some reason sometimes when you get an ego and makes you feel like that you're like above better than someone else when you're really not so when you are as powerful as Mj and then you had to go through the Celtics who are as skilled as any team ever the Lakers who were as flamboyant as any team ever and the Pistons are toughest any team ever the only way you can beat. Those guys is to do what they were doing. That's the only way in your call for an organization that hadn't worn it. The elevated greatness of magic in bird is appreciated because they went to teams that won championships before them and after them but yet they still raise the bar in was excellent but for players like MJ. And Tim Duncan their win places in one championships with a new coach. Phil in Pop. What ends up happening. Is You have to be multiple voices. You have to be the voice for the front office because players know you involved directly or indirectly who gonNa build around you for the coach because he's not establish and then for the other fourteen guys because you the best player if somebody plays for Pat Riley. Nick Sabin bag all at time or a coach k. Because those guys leaders in so if you're MJ that cage you have to play all of those roles in that situation and based on that you've got to know who deserves a pattern of back in a kick in the butt. And I appreciate though. Some accused him in my brother. Charles Barkley has one of selectively bullying. Scott Burrell is Steve Kerr. He was going to do that to anybody. And based on those dynamics that's why you sacrifice friendships in being light in order to achieve your ultimate goal and. I'm pretty sure based on what he's accomplished that he wouldn't change anything about the journ book so Jalen now that we are coming to the end of the last dance. Do you think the series will change your reshape public opinion in Anyway? I A public service announcement on your platform either terrific job on multiple shows. I see you on by five different shows one day. I just have to say this if you think Michael Jordan has an accomplished more in has achieved more than Lebron James. Hopefully you don't know greatness is you don't know what the term actually means. We're not hating on your generation. Meena I know your time line. I know I know holid- I know you gotTa know you tick talking. No you are pass. Oh tied reach pockets. I Know Lebron James Aim Belen in that black cat with them hoop earrings in those big pants. I'm telling you it's not even close. He got three championships. The other do got to three. That's what I want to go after this Sunday when that next Sunday comes you know. I'll I'll just be on talk of course but what will you be doing Jalen? I will be bored out of my mind and still having the same debate because we find ways to entertain. People in Sports isn't happening for now. We're not so much allan thank. You appreciate the law.

Starks is coming from the middle and he twinkle toes and goes baseline around Oakley in jumps. Dunks over Patrick. That's that's like a ballerina. He's six six player the artistry when he went in his bag against Larry Burden of Celtics in score sixty three on a thirty windy thirty eighteen made the playoffs. We're Craig EHLO was standing in. It was before M J. Six frames he passes. Mj and he's like four feet away from audubon laying on the ground as he makes the shop. That level of being spectacular is something that nobody has been able to achieve. Since I'm Jay. Can you remind folks of how he played in the Eastern Conference Finals in the Eastern Conference Finals? The one thing about going against their squad in about. Mj He in Kemah Lajoie word or two people. I was like data best players on both ends. And he and Reggie had a history because great shooting guards in Era Reggie Mitch Richmond Clad Drexler. Michael Jordan was determined to make sure those guys didn't get rains. M J wanted to make sure that Reggie wasn't in his pacers team that he was going to make a name while of so every time we made a run like he was still able to slash to the basket makers his shots gets at the free throw line and was still dominant player so the Bulls won their first two games. Then went back to Indiana guys held core but then game four. There was an incident that led to being suspended for game. Five Hawker Reggie Miller. This has been brewing since game. Three right in front of the Chicago Bench the NBA me some money we were on the Indiana Pacer Bench. Reggie gets tied up behind the Bulls. Maybe seventy five feet away. I come off the bench three or four feet and I'm looking eighty feet away to see what's happening to our hall of fame clear. Let's see if someone moves off the Indiana bench. What's left of your screen right there? Somebody should've been Jalen rose right. That's Jalen rose suspended for game five. Believe believing off the bench. That's just bad institution of rule. And not that. I was an all star player for that team or not like that. But I remember watching it in the Ritz Order for Caesar the Ritz the Four Seasons in Detroit. A little bit ordered a lot of lobster not just sat there one of the lack of big time watching a game and then we got Blowout Day game and Blue Route de game feel bad because I was like man. Maybe I let down my tea but then I was more upset at the league like I should have got suspended. I'm sure it'll be a major plot point in the last dance episode by episode eleven through twenty. Hear them Jason Erna direct episodes. You Jalen rose so the Pacers lost game five. Probably because you weren't there than you are you as one game six and forced to game seven in Chicago which was the first time an MJ led bulls team had played the game seven since. And I'm like yes happening. We bought the NUDIST. We bought the dude that nothingness. All I recall thinking is that we're we're about to do something special and being a young player. Look this look at the talent that they had. They have Phil Jackson. One of the greatest coaches of all time Michael Jordan Scottie. Pippen tuna topped with the players. All Time Steve. Kerr made a huge jump. Relate net game heartbreaking jumper all minutes the first time all this just reminded me like like a concussion just came back to me so lane again. We had a jump ball. Goes Michael Jordan who six six Rick. Smits who seven foot three jump ball right you get this job. Get a chance to go up five. Six thirty Michael can really jump. With Spitzer's seven four spits. Check that the right. The Pippen Smits. I think the tap the Scottie Pippen stills it any kicks the Steve currently hit a huge three night game so we weren't his name when we talk minorities her but yeah they had those guys that we have Reggie Miller Mark Jackson. Chris Mullin Larry Bird on asylum carlaw. Who went on to be a championship level coast? So there was some star power in the building. It was a marquee staging. It just really hurts. Think back at We were so close yet so far away from us into finals. That you you were as you said a young pup at the time. How did you feel after losing to a guy you had idolized for so long? Remember the part where he even called his security sniff. Brothers remember that part of course as people who now know all of the parties involved and same thing with Pr. It was like Oh. They thought he was such a big deal. Yeah he was the biggest deal and so this is what went through. The building ultimately led to their overall demise after the winning six championships well. I'm glad you mentioned his success. And his fame because that was explored in depth this evening and not always the positive and we do see the positive the endorsements and the deal with Nike. But we also see the negative and it seemed like he was a hostage in his own hotel room and they did a really good job of just sort of what. It's like to be Michael Jordan. Now you know what? It's like to leave a hotel room and a half fans outside a hotel and going arena and have people want your signature but granted you regret. Nba Player superstar. But nothing to the level of Michael Jeffrey Jordan during the Mid Nineties and this documentary this evening did a really good job of showing how. That's something that we all want. We all want to be like Mike. But when you are Mike you want to not be like Mike. And it was such a such a really well done portray. It's a IT'S A. It's a sentiment that we've seen so many documentaries in so many behind the music's where oh it was fame and we wanted. We want we want it. We got it and then it turned bad but I felt like this evening. The did a really good job of explaining exactly why. And how and what? The experience was like for Michael Jordan. During that time what do you think? I think it's great throughout these series to acknowledge how he became the best player in the League in eighties. The most dominant in exciting player that the game has seen and then how he elevated one three in a row and became the goat at that point. Just think about it. He had three Peter something that Magic Bird Isaiah. Dr J. hadn't done. He was the goat. Then Jacoby just think about that. He was the goat before he left the game. And so having him on your squat and being able to go anywhere. He can't take one step out of his room without being acknowledged he's the most famous pitch man on the earth. Commercials movies like it. Just didn't stop his popularity so nobody will be able to garner Garner what he was able to do as far as making the game mainstream and it also showed immense pressure that that

"About being an athlete it gives you a background to change whether you like it or not and sometimes being appreciate appreciate it. Is You allow somebody to go ahead of you and traffic. Sometimes people are going to say thank you and wave. Sometimes they're not other times. They might just flip you off then. You're like wow. Am I doing this for the love doing this. Because it's an opportunity and there are things you can't control if it was up to me and I guess I had a opportunity to dictate dictate. What my next twenty five years? They know that would be working at ESPN Doing the opportunities that I'm doing any future opportunities that come not only in front of the camera but production was off the floor away from ESPN I'm very passionate about the state of Michigan in my hometown of Detroit. They being hall of Famer Is My Godfather He's one of the mentors in my life than encourage me to do more. uh-huh along with Thomas then just be a former basketball player to give back and support as much as I can. So I don't I don't know if I'll end up being a mirror of Detroit or governor of the State of Michigan but when you ask me things that I thought about being asked about and had my eye out for and that's something I would love to be minority owner with the Detroit Pistons They play downtown and little caesars arena and I feel like there is a wealth of things that I can bring to the table. I love their owner. Tom Gores who's also a sport. JIRA LA. He's also a friend of mine he and his wife have been terrific to me and our Intel him as my former agent in the NBA. And I applaud him. Bring a team downtown. So that's something that stood out to me and another career opportunity to May may or may not present itself could be coaching or on on the college on the collegiate and professional level. So we'll go probably are a handful of things that it's not a change to plant seeds and continue to trying trying to be one of the best at what I do. Those probably situations opportunities potentials. The mayor crossed my mind. But I love working for ABC ESPN and If they'll have me I'll do this until I'm he'll be Bronze Age. "That's health I q dot Com slash Richard. Jalen a couple more here. This was really interesting to be a couple at. I recommend anybody. WHO's listening to this podcast? podcast check this out but a couple months ago you did a really interesting interview with the New Yorker you did there sort of well known. QNA page which Quite frankly has gotten some people in trouble. You came out of there and the other side and very nicely and one of the questions you got asked about was about Analytics in advance stats in the conversation around sports. And the interviewer asked you like sort of I. If if you I thought that it was sort of fair to use analytics to evaluate players as a generalization. Here's what you said. I'll read you the whole answer because I thought it was really really interesting. So this is Jalen rose here here when you play for example someone like me who has been playing my entire life. For some strange reason that experience gets diminished. When it's time to talk about powerful position sports like he doesn't have experience? There's no bigger experience than being in the Foxhole. In the huddles and out on the floor being a part of the game plan and being playing game planned against but also all all the people you have to learn from your teammates coaches how to navigate with the media how to navigate with the fans instead of it being. He doesn't have experience it really should be he has more. Experience is an almost anybody walking the earth. Thought that was a fascinating and answer. Jalen me what it spoke to is this notion of devaluing player intellect like the devaluing of a player's experience versus someone else with the experience of having an analytical bent or mathematics degree I agree and I wonder for you if you could just sort of expand on the whole notion of of players. Maybe not getting their do when it comes to to the ability to evaluate sport. Absolutely so I like to use this example for me. It's cringe-worthy sometimes. Sometimes when I seen former players talking about people doing analysis of the game and they basically use. Oh you're not in a position to analyze because you didn't play that's that's ignorant to me uh-huh also when a player feels like. I'm so great that nobody can't criticize me unless they accomplish what I accomplished more. That's also ludicrous. You know who can have an opinion. People who work really hard are really read. Study a lot. Have great relationships are present and are GonNa make sure that they do their due diligence. Time my the time again because as you know like money media doesn't sleep this is twenty four seven three sixty five fifteen and I know so many people probably come up to you and and say well. How did you gain the popularity that you have to respect that you have in a pretty sure you constantly tell them like? This is a multitasking thing. Winging it informational thing where it doesn't sleep. Twenty four seven three sixty five that does exist however if view are somebody that does all those things plus you have got to be a former player that gives you an advantage not the other way around. It gives you on job experience at the elite levels and by the way. Don't underestimate eight plant you planning backyard planet depart plan at the Ymca in High School Planning College Plan in the League plan for multiple coaches plan for multiple multiple teams. Like all of that makes you a sponge for information because you been there done that literally in the Foxhole but what ends up happening for powerful positions in sports not just the NBA ownership. I understand that. That's as a business of nepotism in a lot of ways where you can pass the team off of generations like we see with the Knicks. The Lakers with or then you may have what was considered like the baby boomer owners. I guess like a a a march. ooh But I guess he hasn't been caught a baby in a while people. It got a billion dollars before they bought a team so to speak whatever that turns. Maybe if I use the wrong but when you start to filter dow how under that and I'm talking about the predominantly black sports in particular the NFL and the NBA look into power players in the decision makers and unfortunately there feature by the majority and not clearly represented by the minority based based on what. I'm watching on the court in the field and that goes to college basketball and especially college football too so now all of a sudden decision makers acres president. GM coach where it gets to a point where my playing experience is diminished list but a lot of the trade that you just mentioned you your experience elevated invite away. I'm an individual individual for those listening and actually was an honor roll student. High School made the Dean's list in Michigan and graduated from college so being a member of the fast Five and all American or South West the headline but the story was I was taking care of business in the classroom but it gets overlooked in in sports. Because there's sports you're required to be a role model and be educated but you're not required to do that at some professions like acting. I like singing or writing not required to necessarily be a roll up so this is a really disciplined individual. There had to be coach. Had the be all time has a sacrifice had to be in shape and to get their grades had to do all of these things and so now all of a sudden. Here's my resume. You can't diminish everything I did and just Oh Yeah Zero head coaching experience. That's just a title. I've got life experience which trumps everything. And that's basically what. I was alluding to three more for Jalen. And I appreciate your time How frustrating by the way if that's the right word and if it's not the right word please correct me? But how frustrating is it for you with with. ESPN having told people do not talk about politics on your social media feeds. So it's one of those things things that You make sacrifices when you decide to work in corporate America and that's just how it goes and for anybody he then has a boss there certain things you just can't it can do and what is happening is you also want to use. Does your voice for good for positive especially meat and the reason why I say that is if anybody is paid attention to my track record. I've always been socially and politically conscious founded a charter high school in my neighborhood in two thousand eleven eleventh and not only do we graduate young people from high school but we also graduated from scholars from college. I currently serve around eight hundred kids kids between ninth grade and twelfth grade so using when those topics come up I'm passionate about AAH. They relate to education. I do express myself. I have not been discouraged from doing so. The unique thing that happened happened overall in our country was the elephant in the room is that we have a president that also would say message just about sports so that now blurry the line of so we be discussing politics and or having an opinion with the highest office in the land. Or here's another way instead of frustrating to look at it or just ignoring and hoping that You hoping that this hoping that the decision making does it be divisive as a lot of us have thought that it has been at certain points final to Jalen your Your wife your wife Molly is the host I take. She has a very very successful broadcasting career she also also has navigated through you know through. ESPN to sort of find her place and find her role. I wonder for you guys as a couple. How much does discussion a discussion of your careers? Career paths strategies. How much of that extends to your home life or do you opt to leave that at work and you want your poem life to be separate from your business life if that can even be possible? We pay Friday being a sports power couple and in order to do that like any relationship. You love you enlighten and you continue to challenge one another for opportunities. Suzy's that you're passionate about and that you hoped for and you believe in and give support trying to make each other better and when they're days when You don't want to talk about sports. You don't WanNa talk about work. We have those too. So we're not in the car Talking about the score her New York giants every day. And or what crazy crazy outfit. I'll probably were on television. Usually what is happening in you could correct wrong when when you're in a relationship with somebody and I joke like when you're dating my fellow. She was listening to the radio. Show two straight hours to give me feedback. Now I'm probably one of the only people in the industry that's doing three major shows on television and you not even watch sometime That's right right. You don't have that right. You remember the people that love you will always visit to your podcast and liking tweets. Doing all of that ask stuff so so it it it. It's it's a healthy balance of that but we're really fortunate and We take pride in not only you know being effective at are job. She's been doing it for thirteen years with various whereas networks and now one of the most popular shows that the network and I hate The opportunities that I'm giving so so we feel like We run in the race and respectfully for right now in sports power couple is off UH other people to catch up not the other way around. I like it. I like the swag our final question here Chris Thompson is somebody who I know you know. She's she's been on my podcast a couple of times and she said something in me that you told her once that always stuck with her and I have heard it repeated from beyond Charissa and I always remember when I said it and that is she said or she told me appreciate appreciate your position but plan your promotion. Jalen Lewis told me this one time and it's and it's always stuck with me so that's the sort of the preamble to my question for you is you know you. You could have another twenty years in broadcasting. I think if you you want it How long do you want to be doing what you're doing? And how are you you sort of formulating where you think you're going to be over. Let's say the next ten to fifteen years terrific question and I love. Ct She just got engaged. I was following on instagram and she got engaged. I'm so happy for her. She deserves it. She's the best and I see she's taken that baton and run because she's the prime. "Is Richard Dykes and welcome to the sports. The media podcast. I have a guest this week. That really does not need an introduction. I give him one anyway and as I told them before we started troll. We'll do this quite mediocre lay but here we go jalen. Rose is a studio analyst. Who appears on a variety of ESPN shows including be countdown which you see on ABC an ESPN? He's a regular now and get up. He is also the CO host of the popular pot cash. Lash afternoon television. Show Jalen and Jacoby you see. See Him also on sportscenter and some other. ESPN entities very important to him. In Two Thousand and eleven he established to Jalen Rose Leadership Academy which is an open enrollment in public charter. School High School I should say Detroit That give students a leadership focused education google that JR Al.. They're doing some amazing things things. They're Jalen. Rose I've talked to a couple of times. And his great to have him back on these sports media PODCAST Jalen. Thank you very much for your time. Today I appreciate Ed. Thank you appreciate the intro man like this going down memory lane with that amazing introduction. I've been doing doing television for the NBA. Final Lakers and nets. What was that two thousand and two? Oh man that was nineteen forty eight Jalen you've been on the air staff it's fantastic. Rj this is. This is a meal you guys so this is a good segue here because you have now been with. ESPN in some kind of formal capacity for twelve years you played in the NBA for thirteen years. And so so I wanted to just get your sort of just top of mind observation you have now. You're very close in terms of being an ESPN employees in terms of duration than you did plan the leak. That Kinda Spun my head when I saw that today. Wow that fortunate enough to be in a position nations to accomplish the best of both worlds. I grew up loving basketball. Aw and my biological father number one pick in the nineteen sixty seven. Va drafts and playing at South. Less Than Planet Michigan. Hope to do one day shaped the late great David stearns hand so of course. I'm GonNa read my pin striped suit and red gators and really fortunate to plan as you mentioned. And now people like Larry Bird Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan Idea Thomas Kill O'Neal Kobe Bryant. They they know my name they they actually know by any means. It's been such an amazing using ride and as you allude to working full time at ESPN since two thousand seven between two thousand to two thousand a seven practice media chop since radio TV filled with my major at Michigan whether top rank boxing NFL network. Co. pizzapapalis I take best damn sports show and as you mentioned now in a position to work work fulltime at ESPN. Almost as long as I've been in the NBA. It just shows that I'm a roach. You know how to reinvent myself. I so I I really do because those jobs as you know they don't necessarily read staying power the NBA probably have Of Eighty players that are currently in the League right now. That won't be next year in the same type of turnover over happens in multimedia especially on a national level and it's elevated via television so I'll really fortunate that I pretend to try trying to make it look easy and I'm not working hard complaining outfit. I'm getting haircuts. I'm studying every sport. Because we talk about him on every platform platform and I really appreciate the opportunities. Nothing giving all the people that I get a chance to work with Jalen you you have a lot of assignments at ESPN. I mean you are one of the busier people who are part of that company. You mentioned Multimedia you you We can find your work on various mediums both television and digital so. It's very clear that you like to work. and I wonder how much of that how much of this has been strategic in terms terms of. You WanNa be someone who's busy you want to be someone who has a number of different sports to make yourself that much more valuable versus versus just happenstance that it just so happened that even though you you are a former NBA player and have an MBA background. happenstance just happened where you ended Egypt doing some of these other things that involve content. That has nothing to do with the NBA. Oh that was easy. That was that was easy because I grew up looking in the mirror being the talker plain Gar and I was telling myself since nineteen seventy three on the next Magic Johnson. I'm Nancy Johnson so when I look in the mirror and I did not see him. It didn't didn't matter what the rest of the World Oughta. Who wanted my autograph? And I'm very fortunate that my mother ushered a name to the Lexicon Jalen the combination of biological father James and my uncle Leonard and so that kept me horrible so I was like okay since I wasn't an all time great player. My my childhood idol magic or Isaiah. I want to be an all all time. Great Multimedia Personality and I see a lot of great talent. You know popping up in various forms on various networks and whether it's print or whether it's social media whatnot but we just talked about how I became somebody that was like a forefather the two former athletes in particular basketball players doing multimedia on the national level. I was inspired in the late eighties. As Long Jason Williams was planned for the mets and he was also working for NBC. That was one of the first players I saw doing it and then John Sally would best damn sports show. One of the first basketball players to be on the Monday through Friday show swallowed the last gate and I always try to do things that I feel like. There's whole covers so initially it was like okay. I'm going to wear my hair like this okay. People caught up with that now. We'll get waves in my here. I don't really wear Nice. Two piece suits are people caught up with that so novel double-breasted okay. People wear collared asserts in you know. Okay I'M GONNA go turtlenecks and top cans and flowers. You have to reinvent yourself as a media personality announce the and like you have to do as a player to become a vet in order to have staying power in so doing it for so so very long I. I've been fortunate enough to have some unique jobs the ESPN. I've worked for Monday. Through Friday shows like numbers. Never I'm alive Get help lodge a New Zealand. You know how in this lexicon and also Jalen and Jacoby. The Bill Simmons Hill sure into the industry. And we've been going strong for nine years. So now I look up and that work ethic and discipline and changing catchphrases and change in how you know I deliver highlights and you know support multiple. Show that the network it now has graduated into wait a minute. I woke up and I got a lot of parking spots and what I mean by that. Is Your own show Monday through Friday and your name name is on the guy that's Kinda like a motivating factor for me so having having that within Koby then obviously the NBA platform where we have Christmas Day in the NBA. Finals is just ten US Thursday of not only wanting to be one of the best but take victory. Victor really lie laughs today. Like oh Mike McCarthy got hired by the cowboys. I told you I was going to happen. I knew that was gonNA happen over the Vikings the saints. Yeah I told you. Mike is on season. So it it just trying to stay Kerlin and trying to be an industry taste maker and DS's a veteran participant jalen. What is your definition of good sports television? My definition of good sports television is when I'm holding the remote and I'm watching can you. I don't know what you're GONNA say. I don't know what the topic maybe but I can learn something I I can laugh and I'm going to see Something that visual. I think one of the things that a Lotta people underestimate the do television is a large portion of your audience. Isn't actually hearing what you're saying at certain times when you're watching TV whether they're in an airport or whether they're in transit. There's so many times where people are viewing the television. But they're not hearing it so that's why it's always for example important to me like on the show Jalen and Jacoby. I wanted to place when I call immortals battles on the wall because it creates visual. When you're not speaking unconscious to in my own mind try to be dapperly-dressed? Yes because you get a chance to hear me to try to have a fresh cut because you're you're not hearing so those are the things that I think. People people want in a show of so many times on television. You say I I WANNA get that barber shop talk. But then people think that's not wearing a blazer as our or not letting having your top button open but with having your top button open but it's more of the content that you're able to deliver and ultimately you gain the trust and respect for the audience because they feel like whatever you're saying is unbiased unfiltered Jalen. NBA countdown has gone through a lot of transition since Since you joined that group you have been an essentially the constant since I had my dates right I think since twenty twelve so basically we're talking seventy years. How have you managed to sort of navigate? Navigate the changes around you and maintain a spot on that set. It's almost like being a professional athlete. Sometimes player get training players. Get coupling does retire. Players get injured but you still have to show up the professional and perform at your best in order to try to give your consistent contribution to the team and also our coverage is is really extensive because we have games have games on Friday later in January. We gotTA Games though Saturday and Sunday so I look look in the schedule. Sometimes half me doing Jalen and Jacoby Monday through Friday along with get up and then doing countdown Saturday Sunday and so that was an obligation that I wanted to create. I want it that opportunity only because not many people get to work on. ESPN ESPN two NABC. So for me. The former basketball player in particular a an athlete. I look at the last game. Then when it's like usually if you're gonNA talk about sports you're gonNA find a former a talented former football player because you feel like. That's the more populous born in America. So if you notice you have no particular order order. Stray Hand Shannon Sharpe Marcellus Wiley. My Go All Do Monday through Friday shows and I sat back. Then look at the last game that was like I have to kick in the door for not only athletes in other factors like being a founder of a school school stuff but also former basketball players to show that you know we can talk whatever sport it is regardless of the season also so that just translates to the changes in countdown of a loved. The game it's a great opportunity and as you alluded to work. Would you know multiple hosts. Hope I don't forget anyone doors on Wednesdays say Cassidy Cassidy.

"Turn style in how we went about it. which was you're GonNa do it his way? You'RE GONNA fall in line. He didn't like to be challenged. I think that played a big part in all the conspiracy theories that sort of snake their way through his tenure whether it was you know draft lottery it started with the Knicks and that stuff was always there and I was at. Here's an example of like a draft lottery. Where like he was sitting behind me? I wrote about it. This was the Greg Oden Kevin Durant draft and I said in that order because Odin was the the prize. I mean the other people will tell you we would have taken durant I pick Odin was a consensus outta how Ohio state blocking every shaw grabbing every rebound and it was still a time when the league was viewed built around centers. And so anyway he's sitting behind me and Secaucus that that draft lottery and the final three teams come up. It was a lottery a win. Let's see the Philly was in it. the Celtics were in it and the Celtics were. It was at a time where they were hoping they were going to get. You know. Obviously team had been down. Come off Rabat. Season Doc was sort of hold on their him and Danny ainge and he says behind me so we get to the final three and they announce the three Randolph's it's Atlanta Portland and Seattle and stern says under his breath to one of his guys is. Who's sitting behind me? I don't think he I'm sure he didn't see me sitting right in front of him. He said the Pacific northwest in the Goddamn deep south. GimMe a big market. What did I just hear like as I knew nobody else? I'm like Holy I. I heard what I just heard and but it spoke talk to and then You know irony is Boston. Gets the fifth pick. They do the trade. They don't get it's funny how it changed. They end up doing the trade. The fifth pick to Seattle they get ray Allen Seattle takes Jeff Green and then they've got the assets they do the Kevin Garnett trade in Boston. Got Durant her odin. They would if they got in one or two do. They wouldn't have put that team together. They wouldn't made the round traded. Change it but in that moment they were devastating thought. There were two franchise players there now. That moment told me David Stern had no idea what the envelopes were. You know what they were going to show you know it was A. It was an honest moment of frustration. He wanted wanted a star in a big way. Wanda I think Boston Philly back going but whether it was a draft lottery and then it very much with officiating right there was always feeling only of certain officials get put on certain games that might influence certain results certain veteran League officials and a game six or seven. Joey Crawford offer. That's a veteran league officials. Certainly you know. Dick befriended a but now they were also the established elite officials to those older. Yeah Yeah we talk to them right. Yeah but it fed into all the conspiracy theories of what the League wanted. which was you know I mean stern? Somebody asked stern once and it was one of the most honest answer ever gave like what would be your ideal finals. I think was the question. And and he said Lakers verse Lakers Lakers First Lakers. And it's probably and that's still true today in world TV. But I do think has style style. There was always a sense among teams that he played his favorites but certain organizations certain owners and there were a lot of double standards in different sets. That's a rules for different organizations. And I do think stearns aggressive very often threatening everybody around threatened everybody all the time that that fed this feeling around the league that like things were always square and that's fair. Parenting wrenching. Nowadays is different. I grew up in era where my mom frequently told me do as I say not as I do. And that's how we marched to those orders. That was David Stern. When you look at the current landscape of players and society? It's not with out hesitation. To first thing. Young people do say why they challenge authority. And so we need it David to be that guy that always wanted to promote and push the league because if you look at media nowadays that's a Lotta oughta times for national publications usually do what we call a play the hits if you think about it and as a visionary. He saw that in football talking about a couple of players in a couple of teams talking about Dallas Cowboys. Anything about him you talking about the Patriots. You go talk about Tom Brady Diego. Who else wants super bowls? Okay we're GONNA talk about Pittsburgh we'll talk about the packers the same thing in the NBA. The Lakers and the Celtics played in the the finals. Eight out of ten years in the eighties right. And if you'RE GONNA watch if there was a game on the weekends of CBS or NBC. Game it was a few teams names that few markets. And you know it's funny people talk about like Jeez. Why has the all star weekend becomes so irrelevant? Why does nobody want to do anything? And you think back if you're Dominique Wilkins. In that era playing for the Atlanta Hawks on really good teams right really good teams but I and they Ron Turner they had a different setup. TV But for the most part most people didn't see dominy going all star weekend and being that slammed contest was huge for him. It was huge for it was important for Michael Jordan to be in it. It was important for Dr J. Like that was people. Didn't they weren't watching the games on their phones. Were watching watching leap past. They didn't they didn't see that much out of market and it was important to win it became iconic to win a slam dunk contest test. Or you think of the three point contest with bird holding his finger up in the air. I can't think of a moment from the last fifteen years and three point contest that stay but then you thought out of like you you can see Dr J. jumping from you know whether it Dr J. or Michael. Dominique we can the rest of them. They run together the last ten. They don't mean much and the impact of that was was great. I mean it really was great in terms of making those players accessible to to the masses and it was We take it for granted now but it was a hard climb to get players outside outside of New York. La Chicago Boston Philly. You know much run in the public absolutely and I and I'm glad you use the example apples that you use all star Weekend Dominique Wilkins and I'm GonNa do a a parallel and pull a bowl net. They also were trying to grow the game. The best players wanted to participate to grow the game. Lebron James didn't have to. That's the difference difference and also for a guy like dominate aside from their relationship with Turner. What ended up happening is being on that stage Mono Camano against Michael Jordan became just as important as playing for the hawks because he never made it to the NBA finals? So so this is my chance to actually be. MJ At something same with Spud Webb. And that's what's changed about all star weekend is the players playing on Sunday are participating on Saturday. You know what it is. Anything is in this day and age. I think some guys might like to compete in it but you know what they don't WanNa do things they don't WanNa lose correct because because five or six guys are in it and what does it become you get crushed on like it's like come on. I take crap all year long on social media. Now I'M GONNA lose I'M GONNA miss a dunk. Why am I gonNA put myself through that? Their agent doesn't want a minute because because what's going to happen is like okay. Let's go and do this. And then it goes wrong then the player's GonNa blame the agent. You let me do that. Why don't you start me? And so nobody and so instead you have guys guys. Winning the slam dunk contest. That jalen like they're barely in the league. Yes they're barely in the list. But here's the flip side to that to. The game has grown so how much they don't need it for popularity or they don't need the money see before players are trying to get it all trying to grow the game trying to get. There's the reason why Michael Jordan's still sells more shoes than everybody in the NBA. It started then before they were winning championships as a Detroit Trey Pistons Fan. I rooted Jordan his entire career. detroiters in Indiana or two places. I've been that always root against Michael Jordan. Because he was that great you bought on pay homage but that legend was grown during all star weekend and then it was fostered in the playoffs when he scored sixty fifty three against the Boston Celtics to garden. And then all of a sudden people start to realize wait a minute. It's not just lakers. Not Just Celtics Pistons snuck in there. I got a couple of championships championships and Jordan and the Bulls taking the League by storm and I remember when he retired. People wonder is the league going to be able to survive without Liam J now the league thriving from Nicholas Tune makes one hundred and twenty five million dollars to play basketball for Jordan's team. Do you think about that. And he performed is he playing this year because he plays he got that one. Do.

"Roach I think the one thing stern's tenure especially as it went on how his his style which was for lack of a better word like authoritarian south and I remember when stern was cycling Out in Adam silver was coming in and there. Was that time where you knew. Adam is going to be the commissioner and David was gonNA retire and someone described it to me how it would change and they said that under stern the power was in Washington. The power was in the capital. It was with him and that under silver it would become state power. Meaning the power would be among the owners. There'd be less in hypothetically analogy and in Washington and it was because the owners changed in the League and a and there was a generation of owners who bought teams it really low numbers a million two million dollars five million dollars and they grew exponentially and so those owners owners David Stern made them richer beyond their wildest imagination. The never imagined they would make that money owning NBA team so they were more apt to allow. Oh Him David. If you think that's best let we'll go down that road we'll support you and it is. The ownership changed as the mark. Cuban's came in the League self-made guys who were billionaires. There's who spent more on teams The Dan Gilbert's you know philly group. Th you'll get the Atlantic group Milwaukee different generation of of owners. They wanted more say and they wanted they had opinions and the small market big market became a much bigger issue. You and I think that was harder for David Stern because he was not it. was silly a collaborator in that world. Adam silver fits it better but it's interesting to see how the League changed and I think even in the last years of stern people can remember it the way they want to remember it now and I think there's some revisionist his rep. His relationship with the players really deteriorated and lashes because they didn't have the relationships with them that I think the guys in the eighties and nineties. When he was younger had he was seen more when the dress code came in come on? That was a big. It was a big it was seen as Anti Young African American player was seen is is. We're trying to you know. Remember Alan Iverson I think and I don't think it was David Stern's doing I think it was. Just one guy memory airbrushed his his tattoos off for me like a game program and I. I don't know that that order came. I think somebody just made a decision but those things all added up to the final years were different. They were different and he didn't leave to you know the the the I always felt the players at the end saw him. There's an adversary that last. I don't know how many years five years six years the last four or five years and I have a unique perspective have because my biological father was the number one pick in the nineteen sixty seven B. A. Draft Jimmy Walker however. I never met him and being born in one. Thousand Nine hundred seventy three basketball was in my blood so I remember when the gains were on tape. Delay Watching Dr J. Jay and magic and Larry. I remember when Stern got the job I was a teenager. At the town's well he's eighty four. I was eleven years old so I vividly David Lee was following him and saw him as that leader that you talk about and there was that period of the League were He. He needed to be strict The League had a bad reputation in the eighties. Lot of drug use Turned off a lot of corporate sponsors. You talked about the price of teams teams. Were being sold between five and ten million dollars you could buy it. NBA team for under ten million dollars. If if you were making the mid level exception yeah you. Could you could own team now. The average team is worth one point. Nine billion dollars so I'll also acknowledged for the Gray Davis Star. Wanted to great wanted to underrated. Things thinks he did. He ushered Adam Silver into the position. I'm not saying that they are always in sync. Because they're grown they're adults they're individuals. They they see things a lot different Based on the information that is gathered. I think he was a great leader for that time period. Like Adam is a terrific leader for this time period but I'm GonNa talk about the turbulent years that you described in the eighties when he had to build a reputation of the League for corporate sponsors. The dynamics of the game is always tricky. Because of this is to predominantly black league seventy five percent of the players when I'm in high school however that dynamic still exists excel as a public school student Sutin. The fans were predominantly black as well so as you graduate in the game. Now all of a sudden I get to college. The dynamics my next on the floor to sing but the stands look totally different so he had to managed that Juggling Act and I remember when he instituted the dress code. We were upset about it but it was a unique set of circumstances. Alan Iverson people. Also underestimate two things rap music and the NBA started going hand in hand with the bad boy pistons. You can't touch this MC Hammer. I remember being in the League in one thousand nine hundred ninety four and the most hip hop you could hear was there. It is okay during a time out. Arrive Shooting t shirts. And so now you hear rough and rugged and edgy hip hop rap music while the ball is being being dribbled itself Alan Iverson to be the MVP to league wearing a four x shirt when he probably only needs a x. l. back with corn roles with multiple tattoos. Delete didn't know what to do with corporate sponsors so for me as players. We were really mad about it and then I noticed something. They weren't enforcing address cold. It was something that was out. There was a headline it made everybody have conversations nations about it but we didn't change how we how we dress the rule was I think you gotTa have a collared shirt. Collar Right Grant Graduated to a Hoodie right. He graduated to our Martin in Seoul for his thirty years to watch how the League has grown how players years have grown. I did a gratitude for him because I was one of those young people that grew up dreaming. I have to get on stage age with David Stern. Do I have to and of course. He always teased me for ruining the draft dress code because he did not like my red and white suit. He told me that that night. He's like what are you doin. Jay like Detroit all right whatever so. I'll always appreciated appreciate it. Him For that. I think's thinks turn style in how we went about it. which was you're GonNa do it his way? You'RE GONNA fall in line. Giannis Antetokounmpo drops 41 points, Bucks surge to sweep of Pistons

"I have great news. It happened. Again. The pistons won the pistons won the pistons. Another first half of the playoff games against the bucks. However as the rules state they did have to also play the second half of the game during a gentleman by the name of Janas attentive PLO kinda to over Janas finish the game with forty one points, nine rebounds and a dominant performance that ended the season of the Detroit Pistons before we get to the pistons Jalen rose, what did you think of Janas dominance in the second half? I appreciate when your best player understands that it's a clo- closeout game. And they know out and have the best game of the series. I like that killer instinct, and this guy's virtually unstoppable as he gets a head of steam going towards the basket if you play off the him he takes up the space. It can do a euro step either way lead in good point goal. Over the top of you and bang out. And he still has the confidence to shoot jump shots, and he actually made a three. So as his office of game continues to evolve he becomes more of an unstoppable force in the league. You really does. I think a lot of people like, oh, it doesn't have a jump shot. Just back off of them say I don't know if you want him to gain that momentum those long strides long arms, you see he just went up against Andre Drummond under Jones seven foot one with long arms. These big he bounced off Drummond, switch to the other hand. And then finished in the air. Like, you do not want those types of problems. Jalen rose. The pistons have some problems now they're season's over. They didn't have Blake for the first two games in this series. I think a huge huge shout to Blake Griffin finishing out this series. He played pretty well. He was obviously hobbled. He had a great season.

He's got a burner accounts. But I wanna shed some light on the man that Kevin Durant is because let's take a look at what. Kevin Durant was up to recently. He was staying at a hotel. He was in an elevator with someone who's a father of young children. What's like myself, and they had a quick conversation. And then Kevin Durant went to the gentleman's room and brought pizza for his kids. So the staying in the hotel they're out of town, those there's at least two kids there. Kevin durant? He was a hundred percent healthy. They're like he's already to number one overall pick in the draft. He's proven himself. Just quit now. I'm like, no, that's insane. To me over here. Pandora's box you open with that. Because there are some people and I'm on your show, and I'm gonna keep it one hundred because that's what you do. Right. You. And I both know there's also a social and racial component. Absolutely. There are so many people that look like you, and I agree with the that the collegiate system is broken. So therefore, if you got a chance to get paid and not play college basketball, most people sit on their couches and say, I'll just shut it down and do that. Only other hand as young competitor. And somebody that's stabbed himself as a marketing marvel prosecutor the collegiate player of the year who gets a chance to learn from the best in the best. Thank you that by the way, let me not forget Jalen and Jacoby show. I can't believe. They long I got to give Kobe some love to. But but let's get right to it. You saw Zion. Williamson go down last night. Jalen was the first that jumped in your mind, the per they went through my mind is I hope it's not a serious knee injury. This young man grew up in the United States of America and just about that proximity. He's required to go to college after high school to further his professional dreams. Unlike the Luca JR. Who can enter the NBA draft Volve hoping that his knee wasn't shattered. The second thing I was thinking as someone that's been in the locker room Stevie name when Nike at the time the shoe company that we had at the university of Michigan. Brought us a lot of shoes. And I remember sitting there saying not wearing knows not wear. No, not gonna be able to do it. Okay. Cool. That's where the Laci and they didn't even want to wear. Those Iraqis because they were considered a, quote, unquote, basketball shoot. So I was thinking oh, man. This guy just basically both through his gym shoes it caused him to injure. His knee is gonna be a lot of fallout. If you ready for this. He came back and decided I don't trust these shoes. I don't wanna wear these anymore. What happens then if he goes to coach K and university says that they'll just try to massage it figure a way to get them back out there kid, they get a different Nike shoe? Does it have to be this shoe that they bring to him? It can't be a different sue from Nike would only shoot the sneakers that they have. So this is what you gotta do as a collegiate athlete. Okay. Being from the Detroit public schools. We didn't talk much of a choice. We got to jogging suits. And we got two pairs of shoes every year, and we were having with them. You know, how it goes as a high school athlete? We took care of them. We didn't wear them to school special game you have to preserve him all year when we got to college. I was like I indirectly signed the shoe contract. And I'm not getting paid for so whatever or hey Nike. Hey, michigan. Guess what? We want those shorts a little bit longer. Now. The matter of fact, we want a little bit longer than that all of these stocks youth job dropped in the locker room. We're not wearing those where the beyond Sanders where the Bo Jackson's. What are Jordan's? That's what we wanna wear and they capitulated to that Taylor dictate capitulated to that. Absolutely. And Paul George VP candidate. He's doing a terrific job and not to disparage him because of the shoes. But what I would say is i-in Williamson is a different level athlete. I have been in that seat. Lebron actually did not have a field goal on the entire second hand. And the other way, here's Yokich. He's not yo king. He had fourteen liquors down sixteen later Lakers. Still trailing by sixteen. The front is not a good pass. He's frustrated. They look really bad first time in four years. He goes tire half without a field goal. The dodgers with the weird left floater there. And for no reason. Westie Matthews fouls. Lebron James with two seconds left in a tiger. That made absolutely no sense. Lebron missed the first made the second and the Lakers snuck off with a win. This was a must win game for the Lakers. Jalen rose. They can ride this momentum and get a couple of wins moving forward. They play the blazers next. Really bad to see decision by veteran in Matthew's right there. But Kouzmin went to the line and may one or two late in the bra also made one or two late. This is why Lakers in particular have struggled in games decide about five points or less and also weren't able to attain that lead that they were able to secure initially because while they're terrific and getting fast-break points, and they're transitioning those into points in the pain a lot of those. They're not able to get stops in particular when they need to. So is great to get that home with. But I'm pretty sure as a coaching staff in the Bron James in particular. They left that game talking about all of the
