"He is just, he's escaping things in the backfield. He's making things happen. And I guess they are designing some cool stuff for him. And they are making things happen with Chase claypool and Darnell Mooney, which is, it's not a lot. He's more comfortable, too, as a passer. The outer structure stuff is awesome. But you can't live on that, but some of the instructor stuff. It's a lot better than it had been even back in September. So man, it is the error on him is certainly pointing up and I might, I think Tyree kill was the guy who put in the MVP conversation among the non quarterbacks like holy crap. The other thing I'll say is, I think Jalen Johnson's a fine player. I think it'll be a lengthy career as sort of a quality cornerback in this league. If you didn't know who the opponent was and you just watched Jalen Johnson this game in comparison to the people he was trying to cover and you were like, what do you think that guy's 40 time is? You'd be like, I don't know, it looks like a 7 6 7 8 type of guy right here. Oh my God, like, just a miserable day for him. The only thing I was saving them was the under throws. But man, tyreek hill is unguardable right now. And when you put all your resources into guarding them, they have Jalen waddle to go to. The bears game a lot of his own looks. That's no good. I mean, the stress that speed puts on a zone defense, it just immediately obliterates it. So, boy, it's cooking right now for the dolphins. And, you know, we'll see what happens as the year goes on. I do wonder, yes, if tyrique has like a soft tissue injury, that's a huge issue. I do also wonder as team C more and more of what this might be Daniel offense is with this caliber of sweet. Does it speed just forever overwhelm? Or will teams find a way to counter that and adjust, I don't know if we have that answer yet, but it's working. The defense isn't very good, but it's working. It was funny. Mike mcdaniel said today that Justin Fields was as fast as any skill position player that he's seen in the league. I'm sure he's obviously leaving out tyreek hill there who is on a different level. But speed is, we always used to make fun of Al Davis for stockpiling fast players and it was never successful for the Raiders, but that it wasn't that wasn't the NFL back then, right? And it wasn't spread out and there wasn't as much space to work with on the field. Now, I think speed is really the last, it's that last trait, right? That is not unstoppable, but is the thing that separates you from anybody else. I think that's why Heinz from Indianapolis, for example, was why he had offers at the trade deadline just because I think it's just, it's the one thing that if other teams have it and you don't, there's nothing you can do about it. And I'll make like a weird comp to think when the royals won the World Series. Do you remember what I'm talking about? It was like 5 years ago.

"About how they've trended in recent times. It's not good, right? Obviously, some injuries along the defensive line. They haven't been able to stop the run. It's just a defense that is trending as one of the league's very worst, whether you're looking at efficiency or EPA. Now all of a sudden you're dealing with the cluster injuries in the secondary. And you're kind of left scratching your head like how are they going to stop Minnesota tonight? Now, obviously, cousins has played horrifically in prime time. That's well documented. That's good. Just horrific. And even though you had Minnesota beat the Steelers last time out in prime time, cousins played one of his worst games of the season. And you look at that game and he was pressured on 12 dropbacks. Had a zero passer rating when pressured against the Steelers. Only two balls, cousins completed when he was pressured against the Steelers. Were to defenders. Two picks, zero compilations when he was pressured. Cousins is also one in 9 on Monday night. So we're going to hear all of that narrative based stuff for this when people are breaking it down. It's worth mentioning. But there's no excuses tonight. He's going to get his left tackle back in Christian derisk looks like. The bears get pressure at the fourth lowest rate in the league, despite blitzing at a league average rate. And then you hit this perfectly. We thought at least some guys would play in the barrier secondary and then like 4 o'clock yesterday when we're all watching games. It slips out that jaylen Johnson the bears top cover corner, and they're starting safety Gibson, also hit the big C list. So the only defensive backs on the bears active roster right now. Our guy named marquay Christian, Dion bush, T's tabor, believe he's a Florida gator. He is a Kindle. Yeah. And then you got Kindle vildor. Those are the only guys that are active at the time of this recording. Obviously those are sounds better as sounds better as a marvel villain than he does is they starting defense it back in the National Football League. That's actually pretty good. In time for venom and Spider-Man that are in theaters right now. Which apparently did a massive number, sub $600 million worldwide, not in my Wheelhouse, but simply incredible in this day and age to do that much on an opening weekend. Yeah. That is that's bananas. So gravitating back towards the game here. It's like prior to the entire secondary being out for the bears. They were already dead last in the NFL and points per pass attempt allowed. It's only going to get worse. Sean Desai had actually been using jaylen Johnson as a shadow corner. So if cousins doesn't like throw up on himself, then I just in Jefferson's probably going to have a pretty big game. There's also some whispers that Adam Thielen is going to test out his ankle pregame. I'm not going to speculate. I think if you were making a line on the play, you'd probably still make it an underdog that he goes. But he's gonna test it pregame. And then the other interesting element of this defense, the guy that's kind of been the glue and held it all together is roquan Smith in the middle. He's really been like this stabilizing force. He re aggravated his hamstring injury against Green Bay's been limited all week. And he has been the guy that's limited Dalvin cook as a pass catcher. And if you look at delvin cook in the 5 games, that he's played against the bears where roquan Smith was there. He's averaging about 19 and a half receiving yards. So roquan Smith if he's not a 100% or tries to give it a go and exits after a possession or two because the hamstring won't hold up or if he doesn't go at all. That's a big miss as well. I don't know if you want to touch on the other side of the ball quickly. This is really amazing to just talking about some of the guys that are missing and then ultimately the price and where we think it's going to head. Yeah, I mean, may as well. I honestly think instead of some of the X's and I was talking about the price, you could probably make a little more sense, given we've seen money come in, obviously, on the Vikings, is anticipated when news broke late last week about the bears dealing with issues, and of course the total it open 44. Got his highest 46 before there was a little bit of resistance earlier today at a couple shops. Yeah. I mean, here's what's interesting is we know the bears put a ton of effort into Sunday Night football against Green Bay. You could tell there was buy in. Aaron Rodgers had embarrassed them earlier in the season. But if you've been doing some reading, this past Thursday, Jalen Johnson, who we've talked about and is out for this game. Did a podcast. And he said right now, our locker room has two factions. It's players who are still fighting hard, and then there's players who are in tank mode. And my guess is, well, you don't want to speculate. The guys that are in tank mode probably. Here's my guess that we're going to see. You're going to see a lot of teams that are potentially out of the playoffs. I think probably get impacted more by the bug and the virus than teams that are like fully head on with a mission statement for a Super Bowl. We kind of saw this coming into the season where the Buccaneers were like, even though they've lessened protocols, we're going to follow the same protocols as last year. We saw the cults, if you're watching hard knocks, they're the team that's in season. If you watch their meetings, all these guys have individual tables. They're all still 6 feet apart. They're all still wearing masks. This isn't to get into the COVID stuff. But I think you'll see teams that are out of it guys are going to be a little bit more Willy nilly. Anyways, the point is, Jalen Johnson said, how dare you take veiled shots at a guy like Alan Robinson like that? Alan Robinson wants out of Chicago. So badly. And he would have continued not playing. Had it not been for Justin Fields who he really likes and gets along with. That him playing last week was like, hey, Justin Fields are starting. My guess is that if Andy Dalton was the starter last week. Alan Robinson would not have played. It's hard to kind of gauge this, but all of a sudden you gave that full blown effort last week and came up short. Now you're just kind of like riddled with guys missing. And you have one of your top players saying there's factions in the locker room. How motivated are you really? And we made this game right on the opener of like three and a half and my understanding this, even though the line was showed no value, the Vikings were going to be the side regardless of everything that's transpired this week, even if the even if the bears were like fully healthy and didn't get hit with COVID, they were still going to be the side. Now we saw the Jalen Johnson news hit, where he is also out and we saw this trend from like 6 to 6 and a half..

"Interesting phenomenon. I still going back. I was there and that SHF is a game you probably were too or 10,000 and he was a freshman who showed up that night and against against the Flintstones, right? And my guy, that was 21 years ago. It'll be 22 when the next day. Rolls around. I don't know why they don't just make him a coach. I don't understand this. He doesn't play. I mean, even as a coach, you can throw him in practice. He's creating an extra roster. I was going to say he obviously practices, but you could do that. So I don't get why he's not just a coach. Just make him a coach. He doesn't play all right. But they are certainly intriguing on paper. They're very intriguing. No doubt. You know, rose up to be a real thorny nuisance team last year. Yeah. You know? That's the next found out. And when they brought back John Collins, that was the big thing with Atlanta was they pay enough to keep John Collins and he was kind of a guy that was, you know, sort of coming off the bench in a role guy last year turned down a ton of money. They still spent a good amount of money to keep them. And I think they got a guy another young guy. It got so many of them. You know, the cabin herders of the world. The cam reddish is, you know, Deandre hunter was hurt last year in the past. He didn't even play. They drafted Jalen Johnson from duke, who was really good in the summer league. He fell all the way to 20th in the drop because all these red flags remember he left duke, right, middle of the year, just up and left wasn't happy with his role. Whatever. And I think they might have gotten a steal. What Atlanta has is a lot of pieces that I think if Travis joint is smart. They're GM. He can maybe make a trade here and try to figure out, okay, how can I get really good trade value for a couple of these young pieces and maybe bring in another really good sidekick to trail? And I got one. Speaking of which they got it closer. Yeah. They have a closer. That kid is totally for real. Way better than I thought he'd ever be bob. I never thought this ever. I remember sitting with his father, we were in Greenville, South Carolina, the night before Trae Young was playing in the NCAA tournament. And we're talking about the NBA part of it and it sounded like at that point they were pretty clear that he was going to go to the NBA after that. But we were both talking in like, there was serious concern about the size and his father was even saying like, you know, hey, you know, it's going to be hard for him at his size in the NBA. It may take a little while. Well, we were all wrong about that because way better. No, you look at him today. You just saw him out of context, you'd go, oh God, he's gonna get killed. They've gone into a pick he's going to be in a meal. It's over the next week. But no, he's obviously figured out how to play this game at that level. Take care of himself and he's a wonder how the new rules bob. These new rules that they're implementing where you basically can't jump into a guy and create an owl? I mean, that's going to affect Trey.

"There you gotta look at that winners in winas. Go check out all scots picks. How'd you do this weekend overall. Well not really much to complain about. I mostly sucked baseball over the weekend. Because the weren't really many games that i was truly interested on the college football card. I was alive betting mostly because you have a lot of teams and you're not really sure what to expect. Then you turn it on. You realize this team significantly better than the other team and spreads only twenty probably gonna win by ninety and end up winning by about four forty so i had a nice day live of betting but it was moses baseball for the weekend and that one pretty well as well. Yeah i I'm getting into my codge putting this this this weekend Gotta get into a. I'm mostly just been doing premier league for The last couple weeks and A little bit be with that bet against arsenal. Yeah definitely. I did very well betting against arsenal week. One with a brentford but Anyway we're not here to talk about that we're here to talk about the southeast division. We're going to go through each of the team stock about their off-season moves doc. About if we think there are better or worse team and then look at their Projected win totals which you can go bet right now in a variety of but books and we'll talk about if we think he should jump on it now. We think it's a soft number. What have you You will be totally caught up on this out these division. After listening to this we gotta start top of last year. Standings were the atlantic hawks. they are forty. You were forty one and sorry. Forty one and thirty one Which translates to roughly a forty seven win season in eighty two game season And their projected windows right around there at forty six and a half forty seven and a half depending on the book that you're looking at They pretty much have the same main core of team right bike. They had a surprise run to the eastern conference finals with hunter bogdanovich cam reddish and those guys are all back and they should be healthier and they've also added dhillon right as kind of a backup for trae young They lost chris done but he barely played. They lost bruno fernando he barely played. I feel like what do you think that better or worse than you think that is about right. I think he's got a little bit better once again when the core is intact i could say that you're not exactly going to drastically improve but they didn't really need to because they made it to the eastern conference finals in the first place. But if you want to talk about the overall improvements yet imagine the draft because they'd get jalen johnson who had really good in summer league. Of course he slid from duke after he left the team early in college and they also got pretty steel in the second round. With sheriff cooper. I know some people were surprised. Fell that dramatically. He also pretty good in the summer league. I'm not sure cooper's actually going to play because they dhillon right as the backup and cooper's still extremely undersized but.

"Even if those guys are what they were last season, it gives them more optionality within game and I would venture that they probably win more than 41 games this year. Do I think they will make the Eastern Conference Finals next year? Frankly, I don't. If we're being honest, but that doesn't mean they won't be a better team. They will still be growing and building towards something substantial. I just don't know that they'll necessarily make the deep playoff run that they did this year. Yeah, I think that's fair. And I was interested in Jalen Johnson. I thought that he was he looks more like a four to me, but that's good. I think that wing sized guys who can do that who can see if he can shoot a little bit, we'll see how we can defend. But like, in some ways, like we talked about in the southwest pod with Trey Murphy, one of the nice things for the hawks which Alan Johnson is if it works great. That'd be more power to you. You got another guy to add in the rotation. And if it takes Jalen Johnson a little bit of time, that's fine too. You can play him in the G league. You can do all sorts of other things with him. And so I like that bet and shift Cooper was a lot of fun. I had heard about his passing. It was impressive in person. I don't know if he's gonna generate enough separation to make it work, but he's on a two way. So if he doesn't, no harm no foul. Right, yeah, no, I thought Jalen Johnson looked awesome. It's summer. I was not and have never really been a jaylen Johnson guy. This is the utterly perfect situation for him to succeed. Because where he's going to be good is playing a similar role to what John Collins does is the screening for man who rolls hard to the rim. He's gonna be really good at playing the short role like when teams blitz Trey young. He's the screener and then they short roll them into that 18 foot range and then he can take advantage of four on threes with his passing ability and with the athleticism. He's the guy that particularly popped for me. In terms of looking much more athletic within an NBA space in concept. And just a big picture thing, you and I have sometimes disagreed on these, like if he figures it out, guys, like Jalen Johnson, I think prince fits firmly in that based on what I've heard about his time at duke..

"Tell me that's guy that i saw that i was like whoa. He's better than where he got drafted and i didn't get to see him enough. I feel badly about it. I'm going to have to go back and try to find some clips in and watch some of it. But i just didn't see much of atlanta for one reason or another. Maybe it's what time their games were. Whatever it may be. I wasn't seeking it out. But i had multiple people. Tell me that they were really impressed with that guy and you know he opted out of the season you know he kinda got dog doubt Even his own team you know for for opting out of the season when he did But he's a talent nonetheless. We knew that coming into college. Of what do you make of that. And the idea that maybe very well. The hawks got one again in the draft. Because i i tell you like i. I wasn't expecting to hear that name but he came up in two different conversations. I have on this mondays ringer. Nba show that would j column man. We talk a bit about the hawks. And like the main point that i made on that show with jalen. Johnson is that the amount of front court versatility that they're going to have now because jalen johnson provides a new element on that team. You got your capellas of the world. You got a rim running presence ilab threat. You have a john collins who's alive threat and shooter now you bring in a you get alcon. Woo versatile defender who can also do some stuff on offense jaylen. Johnson now brings more of a primary ball handler in the front court for you. Someone who maybe you play some small with him at the four no congo at the five. You're switching all screens and doing a bunch of stuff on the defensive end and then on offense jalen johnson. Has you know always been one of those guys who handles the ball. Like passing is his best talent right now at the state of his career but i thought he looked like a more complete player with atlanta during summer league. Then we were able to see at duke. We're able to see in highschool because we just barely saw them play against them. He left high school early. Do curly and there's always been character concerns with him maturity issues with him but ultimately man the the fact is that put all that aside put all that aside and the production on the court. This dude looks like a versatile defender. He looks like a guy who can handle the ball be utilized and creative ways. I think about thinking about the stuff with trae young trae young. He's gonna run a pick and roll. Trayvon's get trapped a lot in the pick and roll it. Jalen johnson is your screener. He can be an at four you. He can make the right decision or score himself. He could be a guy that you run offense through at the elbow areas like bam style. You know offense in the half court you can do that for you. Could bring the ball the court sometimes help alleviate the pressure off trae young to me. You know he looks like one of the steal of the draft able to learn some tricks of the trade from gallon ari. You'll be playing behind. you know. Short gets gallon ours got the ball in his hands. A lot and i thought the hawks have a lot of depth dude. They have a lot of depth on their authored. A lot of vets slaughter young guys. They have the deepest rousers maybe in the entire league..

"I mean there was this perception around jalen johnson was publicly and not internally amongst teams. I have a teams care all that much about the player deciding like i'm not gonna play college basketball anymore. I'm on the nba. Fans do probably pretty pissed jan johnson last season. But i remember talking to jalen during the pre-draft process of one thing he said was You know people talking about me need to stop like i'm not a bad guy. I just made a choice. And that's my decision but it turns out atlanta which has been stockpiling young talent and travis. Schlink has been really good at identifying that young talent. Maybe they have something here in jaylen. Johnson oh yeah oh yeah i watched some close up the other night and what the one thing that stands out. Is you know the first thing you do when you watch. Jalen johnson up the floor two or three possessions as you say. Nba player. You know you look at the size of the length and bended. See him do some of the things he's done here and that's what jumps out at me is. Nba player. not like. Oh he's trying to make the league. Or hey george neon my good buddy from ah one of the greatest players ever come out of the The merrimack valley You know you go home. I hope georgia work hard. He'll he maybe he can make a team developed. There's a lot of guys in the league like that with this kid you go. Nba player and So i've been impressed. And i think teams to your point. They get such great background intel. That although i did have a scout tell me during the season. They lost down at miami and one thing he said to me was boys kid soft. That's probably the only knock on. It was never athleticism skill level but it was what he soft he plays off so And again because of the agencies guys. Chris it they mature at different rates. And maybe that was a wakeup call. When he leaves duke and people are crushing him on the mock drafts and You know the social media. And the mike came on apparently because it is summer league but travis blank man. They've knocked out of the park going back to hurt her and obviously trae young and the guys. They've drafted toa kudos to them. Yeah they've got a really good young team. It looks like johnson. Maybe not this year probably placement a lot of time with the g. league could be a part of it down. The line does not shy at league. Camp thomas watched him either. I do like. I haven't seen much of him friend you. Bob is seen a lot more but like out there gun like he is not afraid with the ball which may be. He's not gonna play brooklyn this year but they kinda guy. They need coming off the bench down the line to go. Get your buckets reminds. Me of taylor horton tucker in disregard like i thought jalen hort tucker should've stayed in school When he got drafted by the lakers mid mid second round. But i said Because i watch them a lot with halliburton and maria shock in that that group. But i said he's going to the perfect team because the kid is going to grow up quickly inept professional environment around will braun and company. And i think for camp thomas. He can't be going to a better place. He's not gonna play much this year unless there's a lot of injuries but because he's going with k. d..

"You'd rather fine. You know some type of rangy ford or a big who can be a star for you but you know looking ahead. I'm not sure who that next guy is going to be. That's going to be available unless we're talking about like two three four years which is really hard to project four like a cat a couple of years around like that for the deal. Right if karl anthony towns or to become available. You're you're not in your head. You're getting excited. That's an interesting fired up fired up together. They're an odd pairing in terms of personality and style. But i mean that's very interesting could work. Is the trays. The fiery won. The i cat is key. Yes i think it could work. How is going to say impeach. Pj i wonder if like kissing because he and trey or tight the they go way back and we know that he like. He has that type of ceiling like in terms of scoring feel like his scoring. Ceiling is probably. Would you say it's higher than anybody on this rostrum. Just kind of looking at it. I mean bogdonovich and hurt her and But i i mean. Pj's beyond them in terms of like what he can get done. And i don't know that's an interesting one. I've looked at how they can make that. Worked the timeline for the ages and things so to like we were talking about the ages with jalen. Johnson and john collins are interesting to me because i was looking back how old john collins was when he came into league. And if you look at them developmentally is it. Outlandish is it. Outlandish to think that possibly jalen johnson in four years could be a player like john collins like did they just give themselves an option to potentially. I'm just saying that's that's an interesting thing that they picked up at twenty in this draft. And i think that sharieff cooper is a guy that draft twitter desperately wants to work. They say boy. And i agree with i agree with them on on a lot of different things In terms of him like he such a fluid and skilled. I mean like he plays with a lot of pays for somebody. That can't shoot the ball very fluidly off. The dribble very ambidextrous playmaker. We saw him control even in these games. I mean he he he just looked so confident and comfortable all the time. And if the shooting ever comes around the problem is that the at that point you would have to. You know six foot guards. Probably you can't really play them together because you get merced. You can't play them in any serious playoffs near get. 'cause they get mercilessly attacked i would. I would assume as well. I mean a cooper back court in a playoff series isn't sound great. But i do think over the course of the regular season. You know it'd be great to have sharieff cooper if he's able to pan out granted like i said he's only on a two way getting some opportunities within that offense of trae where to miss time at any point in the next couple of years. It's great to have somebody who can kind of do trae like things you know on the court with his playmaking similar to what you said about you know what the roster of having jalen johnson behind john collins. If there's a team you know that one at a trade for john collins at some point you feel you can slide. Jalen johnson right into that role. Great good to have that type of depth like th. They can put these pieces together in so many different ways. They have the veterans. We didn't even mention gallo. Louisville jang song held alana right. This is a freely strong deep roster with young players. Some good vets can play so many different ways. I love what they got. And i think in many ways for this team. They're just missing that other star player. And when i think about size and length and versatility on thinking a lot about the toronto raptors who drafted scotty barnes before pick which came as a surprise to a lot of people on draft night expecting them to take jalen suggs point guard gonzaga. But they went with barnes. Six eight ford at florida state. I've been. I've loved watching barnes and summer league kyle. Yeah i loved watching scotty barnes and you loved him prior to the draft as well. What have been your takeaways from how he's performed for the raptors through the summer league i was i wanted to say one more thing about atlanta for move on it's sort of a cosmic gumbo. We watched have you watched. I think that's for out there. They're oster past like four times. This past week. Are you watching white lotus. That that i have not. I i wanna watch it but i have not watch white lotus. Here you're watching white lotus kyle. I have finished last night right. Yes it is. I been watching. It's really it's enjoyable or are you watching. Ted lasso season two yet seen a moment of ted last. I don't have apple. Plus i'll have to get it at some point. I mean i'm thinking about losing season one. I haven't seen any of it. I'm thinking about ditching. Netflixing getting apple. Plus maybe for a spell here well net. Netflix says declined the net yeah. Netflix has decline. We're just wondering if they if they're worth the the the max money that i used to give them is net flicks gonna die. Everything's methodical but he's really patient like he. He works until he gets an angle to either. Get a shot or draw. Foul in that game had fifteen rebounds yet. Fourteen free throw attempts. Yeah i shot three for ten from the field. Be curious to see what he looks. Like against real mba lengthy. He's gone up against a couple. Backup center like borderline g level player. So we'll see what he looks like an nba but he he's lived up to the billing the reason the rockets traded up for him like you said mcmahon was if you talked to anybody who's doing models like statiscal model stone into the draft. You know. I think. I think kevin pelton ed schengen number one. A lot of the internal team models had really really high because he did like you said his production in the turkish league for his age was out of this world. Basically luca danni trajan like the two guys who put up the numbers they have. So i mean an eighteen. He was a turkish league and be equality european league. Yeah it's a really good league. It's a really good week. So he hebrew was probably the only guy that i saw in japan. A young guy say young and quotes. Because i i did see this guy. Don church yeah from soviet. He doesn't eat us in. Count it should. We should track him. Make a note that mcmahon to track this guy but group bruecke. He can defend one through five. Now he's not gonna defend every five one through five crazy long arms and bontemps mentioned about the buyout. His violence three million euros which is three point up top of my head here. Three point seven. I do i do time off of my head and and money can often where you have more money than time so you should get seven million dollars that he would have to pay his now. They stretch it out over years enough to pay it all right now. But he's probably not guaranteed a heck of a lot more than that. He's guaranteed a two year so he really wants to play. I mean he basically is giving up his first nba contract. Why do think the one. I was talking to kevin pelton about this. I think the rockets are paying too. I think they made an agreement with rockets are paying the amount they can pay each year over the next four years students. Seven hundred seventy five thousand seven hundred. Yes owner fifty thousand dollars. So i think the rockets are paying it but like i said on draft night. I was thinking as soon as we got into the rain. Where you know after shangkun went off the board at sixteen after seeing garuba play. I was like all these teams from seventeen. And you're talking about playoff playoff teams back after the first round. I was waiting for one of them to take mothers the knicks or when the clippers traded up i was like somebody's got to take a swing on this guy because he's got really high potential so i thought for the rockets to get him to get josh. Christopher who's one of these guys like this draft is really interesting. Because you know i was gonna talk about jaylen johnson. You've got drafted by the hawks later. He's another guy. There's a bunch of guys in this draft were top five ten fifteen recruits coming into this college year. That had their college like completely messed up. Because a covert and how messed up. Everything was like josh. Christopher left school early or left those two team early jalen johnson left. Do curly so these guys were really big. Time prospects that fell you know much later than you would have initially projected them to be in the draft and christopher showed some flashes this week. He is a really big fiscal kid. Like if he does lock in defense he could become a really interesting player. Jalen johnson has been really interesting for land. He's a six ten kid who's athletic. Thrown down some huge dunks. He's playing on a team with nate bill as a coach and with a lot of good players where they can. Basically kind of dangle plankton out front hammett say listen man. If you do the right things we can throw out here a little bit. You can kind of piecemeal him playing time and make him earn going forward like i think. It's a really good situation for him. A good situation for josh christopher to get minutes and yeah like houston. I think has to feel great with the way. These guys are playing what they've got going on. It's a really good start to this. Rebuilt for and gruber didn't play until tonight and it was you know he's fresh off the olympics and Yeah i certainly wouldn't judge him based on anything that happens in the summer league. I don't know he's practiced maybe a couple of times or whatever but the fact that this guy as a teenager is playing a pretty significant role for spain in the olympics. Yup and like when they play team. Usa he has to be on the floor because he's doing one who can who can defend at that level you know. He's six eight to forty might not be done growing You mentioned one to five kind of the and again. These comps were not. I'm not saying he will be draymond. Green defensively but that's kind of the the type you know. He has the draymond green build. Long arms right kind of body type. Who can guard on the wing you know can guard on the ball can can anchor a defense not a not a necessarily a shot blocker but you know can be a position. Smarts will physical type of of you know give you rim protection in that sense Offensively he's a project you know. He has some natural passing ability. The he needs to develop skills. And you know the other thing that that the rockets really excited about when we're talking about these nineteen year old kids when we're talking about cagey martin who you know. Nobody really paid attention to the rocks last year. But as a as a as a nineteen twenty year old showed some development you know. he's a six six hyper. Athletic guy at canyon martin's hops. That's for sure he throws down massive dunks and and some of the the weak side shop blocks now every time he gets a block. The guy on on a donkey means he's late on his rotation laid on rotation and make up for in spectacular fashion. was a high thirties. Three point shooter for the second half of the season. He's twenty kevin porter jr. twenty one and and you know the way rebel don't put it. They're they're enrolling these guys john lucas university. They feel like john lucas's developmental program. Really kind of gives them an edge and look are. The rock is going to be good next year. Hell no you know two years. No but they've got a young court place. They think if i if i was a rockets fan i would want to watch the team. Which is yes you're going to. They're going to be a really really fun team to watch next year. No question about it. So what about them. So what are you seeing from cade cunningham. This week i mean these look good. You know all these guys have look good. You know what. I mean i. I'm not trying to take a ton away from these games for these top guys like you know it's like tim said jalen green play. He's got a slight hamstring issue. Probably not gonna play. Jalen slugs very well could be done now after this and issue. He's had today but all of them are pretty. Uk down played up. One up against jalen. Green had a really nice crossover. You know step back. Three point move at jalen left in the dust which you know. Got a bunch of views on social media but he. He's a six eight kid who can handle the ball who can pass who can guard multiple spots like he. He's the prototypical like point forward. Today's league that could be a big time player. And you know detroit's and other teams detroit's not gonna probably be very good this year but between cade cunningham and cdc bay and stewart and jeremy grant like they're they're going to be a fun team to watch and like really.

"The three still a subpar. Free throw shooter. So baller has a lot of support as a low around the league. They're really like what he can turn into. Six to guard. Plays hard on defense. There's so much like about him. Kyle you read stuff about him. Where he's like one of those great guy guys. Ivanhoe guys are just talk. it's it's b- he's basically gandhi everybody just raves. About what an unbelievable guy is he. Just yeah like you. I was gonna say sorta like how people talk about. Kfc it's gonna endless praise to say something to poke a hole in this go. No i mean so he was. He was really good last year and they won the title and everybody says he's awesome guy. In the only reason he kind of fell off. The map was because of some medical stuff that he got cleared on. And i don't really understand. What missing i guess. It's a question of if it's gone if the issues gone or if it's good enough for him to play i guess that's the thing you would way i mean he's the kind of guy. I think you could pair with like a bigger playmaker. And he would really thrive because he can really shift either ole he can really shoot he can really create another guy that was like really high throughout like heist. When everything's jalen johnson he just get forgotten and not talked about it. Really weird year at duke. people have dinged him on duke. Great people have dinged after leaving in that weird year. I mean he's a talented player like could be like a high transition creator at some point big physical presence interesting lawyer and then our workout guy who i don't trust as you know i don't trust the workouts but They ran sharp..

"So like this isn't a cade Cunningham situation where like Oklahoma state has no spacing around him playing three non Shooters like teams mostly close out on Jeremy roach DJ Stewart Matthew her Joey Baker, you know Wendell more not really but like it's not like one of the more is like terrible, although he was start the year like wage. There was space to operate in the clip that I've said this before but like I can't get out of my head that like he had like a little semi transition opportunity to take on Kofi cockburn one-on-one and like Kofi cockburn like dead slidden stopped them. And I think that the way that you can do it with him is because Jaylin Johnson's handle is a little bit too loose right now for what he thinks it is dead and it's harder for him to get places than what you would think at the end of the day. So I gotta find that clip because you keep going back to what I gotta find it because it's got to turn your memory right now. I'm back to you I'll send it to you right now as we speak. Well, I texted it to you. I see I have on do not disturb. So get blown up by seven hundred group chats, but I also like a little ironic too is the NBA's we've talked about extensively has gone more position lists type basketball where guys that are 6869 off. Can play center and play in the wing and and I'm still an advocate and we do this the mock draft exercise of taking these guys who has a versatility can play in the way younger maybe guard up the line up. So they feel they're there's been a little bit of a shift back from guy's not caring about being on the floor. It's like RJ Hampton had that quote last week if like, there's two positions on the floor off the floor and like all the old heads off. That's right your honor off it but it's true and that like you just gotta get out there. And if you play the five at 6869 like it can be an advantage you can take guys off the dribble. You can't have these mismatch opportunities where he needs to take advantage of it as much as you really should've. Yeah, and I totally agree with that I sent you this clip. I want you to watch it while I'm yeah, hold on. Hold on. We gotta read this that the name of the clip is Jaylen can't be Kofi. Like this is just disrespectful. I mean through I'm watching he can't beat him. But like the problem right name is pretty good. Yep. Yeah, so I feel like for his game to work like the name that always comes up with Jalen Johnson is Ben Simmons, right? Because six-foot-nine playmaker really great Court Vision great size frankly. Like I think the fact that they kind of look similar to each other kind of, you know makes that comparison happen for white people right off. This is like a real anti old white media right now today..

It's kind of like fly-by-night like yes upside conferences or conferences are like, yeah. I don't know I think we'll do it. But we'll we'll see what happens. Yeah just feels like at some point. The basketball gets it down the more toward the right baseline. I'll throw it back out front to road cycle of the steward left wing pumping. The three dribbles inside the Ark jumper from 15 is good for to be J. Stewart has five in the ball game, and we're not enough. It's 37 apiece a little bit of a ball fake. It's Gray Davis off his feet. One dribble goes around the defender. Able to knock down the 12 footers Davis with it on the left side, it will toward the top of the key bouncing to Jones in the paint. The winners get around Jalen Johnson lost the ball going up and Going to say it went over top of the backboard. That's gonna be a turnover and give it to do whether it's trying to argue that he got fouled. Officials disagreed. Charles Midland checks in for Louisville Great Davis will have a seat and that's why it's a big You don't want to put the ball on the deck. Big man puts the ball on the deck. So DJ Stewart at 62 comes in gets a hand on it, which then causes him to lose it and they lose possession roads. Get it to Johnson about the right elbow turns faces up Johnson Leavitt for her troubles with right wing. He'll shoot the three from there. He's got it and Matthew hurt as 20 in the game, Duke back on top by 3 40 to 37. Matthew Hurt is really feeling that he has been a big part of the Duke offense. Today. He is eight of 10 from the floor. Here's David Johnson bounce in the middle of towards the left corner troubles inside the art up top to use Luzinski takes the past in Midland dribbles to the right side funds. Jones of the right quarter. Jones dribbling left into the paint, floats it up and drops into Charlie Jones, but just his second field goal of the game. 42 39 Blue Devils lead 17 39 remaining There's more on the right side Ruling against Lisinski down the baseline turns fades, fires from 10 ft and scores to Wendell Moore with five points due back on top 40 to 39. Luzinski is having a tough time on the defensive end right now. Inland up top Jones get into Johnson over to see Luzinski left side beyond the arc. They give him some room. "Remember, I mentioned going into halftime, Duke was down 14 to Florida State and 12. To Miami to the first bullet to the first half, so they had to fight an uphill battle. Now they actually have the lead. So maybe this will actually help them settle down if they could approach the second half instead of pressing, which they've done in the last two games, and it just hasn't worked out for them. You, too, will have the ball to start the second half. Jalen Johnson hurt Maura Roach and Stuart for Duke. It'll be winners. Davis Jones Lisinski on David Johnson for Louisville. And what sorry about that will. But when I have been impressed by both teams on the offensive end, they've been patient. Passing a good shots for better shots. But now they've got to cut down on the turnovers and value the basketball a little more Duke in the black uniforms moving left to right here is hurt with its top of the key makes the chest pass over to wind. Elmore left wing. Get it back inside to hurt. Spins right around Luzinski lays it in off the glass. Matthew hurt was 17 and Duke back within one great passing angles. Brzezinski got up too high. It also hurt. Did a nice Dallas stepping to the basketball, grasping and then been able to spend baseline and finish. David Johnson nearly lost the ball. The other end down the right baseline, able to maintain possession, skipped a Jones. Hi the left beyond the arc and Jones's hand checked out front by window more. Picks up his second foul of the game. How about Carly Jones? Just five points in that first half? He had three early, then hit a couple of free throws. Duke's done a pretty good job keeping Louisville's leading scorer bottled up well, they've done a nice job of keeping an eye on him, but also David Johnson, forcing other guys to have to score for Louisville Johnson with it, get it to use Lisinski angle on the left. I'll throw it out to Davis on the right side. Get out of the wing for David Johnson. Troubles left. Bounce it up. The Jones fakes a pass left Bounce pass goes downloaded. Withers left locked. It's around, Johnson Shovel it low. Davis. He got struck. Going up with a foul and great Davis is going to go to the free throw line to shoot two. How will be against Jalen Johnson? He picks up his 2nd 2nd team foul against the Blue Devils. Neither team has had, you know a lot of free throws. Duke was two of four in the first half lose five of seven..

"Stop by 11 55 to go first half Louisville 14 Duke 13. Will you reference this a little while ago? It's so strange to watch, do play and see these mass substitution for guys in four guys out somebody plays from 90 seconds and comes out of the game. This is all part of this early season puzzle that Coach K is trying to put together. With this young group and all the limited practice time they've had their really is unless he's only had one player. Matthew heard it started. All nine games were briefly mentioned seven different starting lineups. Eyes missing because of covert. And one of things that coach K has been consistent about is asking for consistency from his players. You know, he just hasn't gotten and he's talked about how that's made it difficult for him that look over the bench like okay, who cannot count on because he's not really sure Matthew hurt. Has done a nice job, but he's had a couple games where he hasn't produced like they have expected. So you know, the fact is, they're still trying to figure out their rotation. They're still trying to figure out their players. We talked about Jalen Johnson missed three games because of injury. He had a big game against picture got off to an early start here, but can they keep it up? Now? One of the things I've noticed in this game for Duke is there hope is with this 23 defense is the force Louisville to score from the perimeter. Well of their 14 points for little only to have been in the paint, so they're actually knocking down some shots currently shooting 45% 5 11 from the field. And three of six from three. So the question is, If that continues, will Duke change their defense at all? Or were they just continue toe? Try to extend it a little farther and get a hand up on the shooter's still in the zone? Out of the time out. Louisville with the basketball up by one, here's Midland drilling right side, even for Williamson on the wing. Back up top to Midland Lynn dribbles left it to the elbow town Sit down, left baseline. Brothers back in his way and against hurt. Throws it back out onto the wing to David Johnson shot clock. Is it six years, Jones? Deep Right side dribbling left gets into the paint. Jones go to the basket. Got the ball knocked away out of bounds. Gonna say it hit Jones last That'll be a turnover and give it back to do Jones did a nice job of putting on the deck getting by the initial defender. But then Duke did a better job of collapsing and because of the shot clock situation later shot clock. Curly Jones tried to shoot, force it up over two guys and then knocked it out of bounds. Blue Devils have the chance to take the lead on this trip down more up top Jalen Johnson in the painter hurting a foul. David Johnson, reaching in, slapped it away, but Ted Ballantine's gonna call him for a foul. David Johnson picks up his first Little league team found over four against the Cardinals in Duke has to do a better job of throwing that ball into the post or the man that's roaming inside the paint. They already had four turnovers here. We're not even at the halfway point of the first half of some of the inbounds pass two roads back to Johnson in the left corner jab step through those left bumps into his defender. No call lost the ball loose on the floor, fight his on court. Carly Jones comes out of there with it for Louisville. Cardinals on the run with blood Court. Jones bounce in the mid one on the left side up top. David Johnson wide open three off the right side of the window. Good. Midland flies in tipped the rebound. It goes out of bounds off the hands of Matthew Hurt, and Louisville will keep it with 20 to shoot. That was Jalen Withers for Lulu did a nice job stand in front of Jalen Johnson and eventually with physical contact between the two. Johnson loses the ball. Jalen Weather is able to knock it out to his teammate Jones with the inbounds pass, and they jumper knocked him left with Lane by Samuel Williamson. So Williamson with his first bucket of Louisville leaders back 23 16 13. It was a great screen by Jalen Withers and he was able to get him open off, see out of bounds play. So he could not done that 14 ft jumper from the baseline roads get it out to more high on the left side beyond the arc hurts sex to scream or dribbles around to the right makes the one headed pass over on the right side. The gold wire will hand it off Mrs Roach at the more high on the left side. Japs that with his right foot, puts it on the deck, rises up for a three ball and knocks it in to tie the game at 16 Wind, Elmore with his first bucket, and we're not it up with 10 18 to go in. The first was almost like window more hesitated because the defender for Lulu didn't come out again. So he said, All right, if you're not gonna come out and extend yourself, I'm gonna go ahead and shoot it. He knocked it down. Williamson, one dribble, pulls up from 16 right away in that short side of the iron fight for the rebound inside Withers had it. On stepped out of balance. He threw it off the leg of Matthew hurt, but he had already stepped out of bounds. That'll give Duke basketball with a great job that time of hustle by Jalen Withers. He comes around the weak side, and he talked about Uh, Matthew heard for Duke was rebounding an area not a not a body. He was able to kind of come around, pick up the basketball. We couldn't grasp it. And as you talked about as he was falling out of bounds, he stepped on the in line before he threw it off her. All the folks here in Louisville are very excited about Jalen.

"His second bucket. He's got five cardinals on top, 12 to 7. Well, he did a nice job of splitting the double team, and then somehow gets that shot up. At the rim off the glass maker with it for Duke drilling high the left out front. Two more between the circles watched by Davis back to Baker left wing. You'll step into a three and that swishes down So Joey Baker hits the triple from the left wing to bring Duke within two. Louisville 12 Duke 10 14 14 to go before the break and David Johnson for Louisville was right there to contest the shot. Just couldn't get it up high enough to block it. Davis with it out high on the right side against this Duke zone up top to David Johnson. Hold the ball, his chest mounted Jones left wing back up top. The Johnson Johnson makes a pass for Jones that's kicked by gold wire. Global will keep it with 22 Shoot, wrote Steward and Jalen Johnson back of the ball game. Also Patrick Teppei, the Brad transferred from Colombia checks in for the first time for the Blue Devils. Louisville is also going to go to their bench. Samuel Williams Senate will check into the ball game. And I'll be joined by Charles memories, but I think the Duke Blue Devils, their players have skates on the way to Coach K is going on rotating guys. One of things he was asking for his consistency. I don't even know what I could do as far as my rotation. Have seven different starting lineups guys miss because a cove it he's still trying to figure out of rotation and his players and one with it high on the right side. Get up top deep three. Put up and around it off. No good for David Johnson Rebound inside roads for Duke off the left side of the Florida Jalen Johnson Johnson bounce pass down inside a tap. Hey, it's knocked away and stolen by Carly Jones. Jones on the dribble down the near right side gets around a defender in the front court, now to the right block double team, looking at the Midland over on the left side of goes to Williams and works his way along the baseline, looked it up from 10 ft. It's an air ball too strong. Baker has the Duke rebound, his past, the Roaches deflected but roads able to save the possession. Well, said Louisville on top 13 21 to go here in the first half. Take her with another right wing out the roads angle Webb want to screen from Teppei dribbles to the left side gets inside the York Nothing. They're back out front to Jalen Johnson over on the right side to Baker. He'll pull up for another three that went back to the window, good fight for the long rebound of foul on the rebound. And it's going to go against Duke. Yeah, like that'll be against EJ Stewart. He picks up his first team foul number five against the Blue Devils. Now, the previous couple possessions. I talked about how you know Duke's help. I mean rules. Help was late. That time. They did a much better job with their help defense on anticipating where the passes were going, and they were getting their hands up, getting deflections but also able to contest the shot and then pick up the rebounds and lived with it for Louisville. Jones on the left wing. Beyond the arc cooks a pass to Johnson dribbles down the left side fadeaway jumper from 10. FT. Rattles it down David Johnson able to hit the bucket, his first field goal in Louisville as a 14 to 10 leagues. Little doing a nice job of finding the scenes and the defense. But that's just a tough shot. Defending catches it, but then fades backwards. Not much. The defender could do step for hope. You miss Stewart on the drive into the paint puts it up and into the foul. Stuart took it from the left wing all the way inside. Play through the contact will have a chance for a three point play. Midland picks up the foul on an excellent job. The old package make fake a pass make a passable Head of making a pass. He fakes the pass the defense moves, he puts it down on the deck and attacks. The rim.

"There's a future here or has he just wanted a fresh start somewhere else? A chance to prove to everyone that maybe this wasn't the best place. We got benched, he said. It was a blind side didn't see a common. There's there been reports that he's not the biggest fan of that Navy after being benched. But, yeah, I mean it again. It seems like the Bears have few options in terms of, if not Mitch, who? But does Mitch really want to come back and and to Brad Biggs COLUMN When you mentioned that? It is God forbid the bearers, you know, ended up getting blown out today, right? And we know that Virginia gets pissed when that happens. Is that enough? To restart Conversation within the building about okay. Ted Phillips. Well, you know, what does he do for living? Matt? Maggie, By the way, Ryan Pace, you're back. We have to have talk about what you're doing, and And you know the quarterback who knows? Maybe the quarterback stays and everyone else goes. But I don't think they're going to get blown out today. I could be wrong because bears Packers has a way of reverting back to Packers dominating and take advantage of whatever the Bears give him. But that said, I just I think as we sit here today, It would take an extraordinary result in terms of 48 up in or something. Or for changes to be made. I think if you're looking for a reason to keep everybody, as I said last week, I think George is already got that reason so well. And I think so, too, in inbred Biggs calm. There's a couple things they're worth that we're looking at, he said. Nagy appears to be in good shape to return for 1/4 season, something that was much less certain. A month ago, the offense after a slump that lasted more than Wanted to have seasons has come to life. And while Maggie was right for criticism is the slug continued. He also deserves credit since turning over the play calling duties to coordinator Bill Laser, and then we see what you know, in rapid part, saying that maybe Nagy, in fact, has had a little bit more involvement in the play calling but also He mentions that the Bears or 25, 12 and Travis Keys regular season starts since the beginning of 2018. The failure of Nick Foles to stabilize the offensive season requires blame to be spread equally between pace and Aggie. So there's there's blame to be there, but I think one of the more important things is That There's already six other franchises looking for a general manager. Right. Falcons Panthers Lions Texans JAGUARS Washington Um, So if you're the Bears Are there seven guys out there that can run NFL teams. Um, you know, you may not get one of those guys because you're not looking right now. Well, maybe you're probably not looking right now. So who knows what's gonna happen, But A lot of times and I know you've heard the phrase sometimes. You know the people? What you know is better than what you don't know. You know, the people, you know, and I don't want I've screwed it up a little bit. But, um, the evil the evil, right? The evil you know, better than the evil you don't And it's like, who knows. You know what you have in Ryan Pace you do have he has. He has done some good things this year. When you look at guys like Jalen Johnson. Cold Command Now that he's finally playing, Darnell mooning guys like this right? Third round guy, But you know what if you can't get the quarterback right now? And, you know, be interesting to figure out what it was. Was Matt Meggie opponent the desk for Nick Foles because of Philadelphia. Was that Ryan paces idea of that nature was off work and I, It's great. You find guys in the third round the fifth round six around whatever and It's great. You can swing a deal for Cold Mac, and we debate a few weeks ago whether the pressure paid was worth it for the production got after the first season. But the fact that if you can't get the quarterback E mean Mike Glennon, Mr Biscuit jury still out. Although a lot of people are saying, Okay, I see it now. You know he's coming along. Okay? Four years into it. It's great. Um Nick Falls, and so do you trust if they're going to draft a quarterback? Do you trust Ryan Pace to be that guy again? It's the most only the most important position on the field. So right. I mean, the trend is that he hasn't always looking at And and we went back and read some of the quotes from right pace when he got Travis Key and Scouting report the thumbnail he gave us that's not the guy that we've seen, so your evaluation was way off. And it's a good thing that he's finally come into his own hands, leading an offense that students of the last three or four weeks, five weeks. But in totality is a good note. We talk about Who's Who's more important if the Bears win is going to be because of Mitch of the offense or the defense and Maggie said Just the other day, he said, the defense is actually looking forward to another shot of Green Bay. Just me knowing who they are every week all year long and what they've been through, you know, the magnifying glasses, the performance that we had, you know, a defense In Green Bay, and so our guys are competitors, and they know that they can play a lot better. And so they're motivated. I don't think it's all for them, and it's more about just going out and doing things and playing fast and You know, So you see guys like Eddie, You see guys like Kaleo like like I came like road Kwan, you know, and Danny and there's a bunch of those guys that they have their pride and they care about how they play this game, not only for themselves, but for their team and For their city. And so they know that they're good defense and that game that day. You know, we just we didn't play very well. It's a simple as that, and Green Bay played really well credit to them. So again, That's why you get to play to win the division. Yeah. Sometimes you don't look forward to playing the Packers twice that when they're rolling like they have been right now, 3123323776. The defense of my opinion needs to step up. Right at the start. They need to put some pressure on Aaron Rodgers. They gotta watch because they'll be some time, Brian. They'll be a sometime today where they have Aaron Rodgers and you go. They're going to get him and all of a sudden hill just sneak out and gained 12 yards in the first down and is going to be Oh, yeah, exactly. He can't hit what his 11. I think he had his longest run of the year last year or last week against Tennessee. Anyway, he got up smiling because you know, there's some of the Tennessee guys. We're going. Hey, old man, how you're feeling and he was running down the field in the snow and just outpacing it, but he does it all the time. He does it.
