"What we see. We need the data. Still I mean I just like you Jacob. Everybody wants to see a therapeutic work but I don't want people to be hurt and I don't want people to have false. Hope we need to see the data on this. That data is is something that we deserve to see as soon as I'm sure the FDA HHS analyze it we'll we'll get a better look the viruses not just affecting the respiratory system and patients the the their ability to breathe in the scarring on their lawns etc. There's now evidence you say of neurological and cardiac impairment as well problems with their hearts. Yeah Yeah I mean the the idea that a respiratory virus were primarily affect. The lungs is a good assumption. But I think pretty early on a doctor started to see other organ systems affected. I thought well the lungs are not is not oxygenating. The blood therefore Organ Systems are getting injured by the lack of oxygenated blood but now it seems like something else is going on take a look at the list of various symptoms that we see with the central nervous system and also the cardiac system one of the things that we saw early on with the with. The heart was people. Were having symptoms that A seemed like maybe they were having a concurrent heart attack or something but it was unclear whether there was also much inflammation causing these problems. The top of that list Jacobs blood clotting. Typically blood clotting would be a good thing in somebody who is having bleeding for example obviously but in some cases blood clotting can also be a evidence of a pretty significant illness a precursor to shock septic shock and the body also with regard neurological symptoms. You Remember Jake. People at times we complain of something like loss of smell. It would be the only symptom they would have and I. It was just sort of an oddity but then they realized that it was in sometimes the first symptom of this covert illness along with things like dizziness and headache and seizures. Even there's something else going on here. Jake you know I. I've talked to a lot of people even over the weekend. People who are studying this. Is there something that this viruses specifically doing to the blood making the blood less able to carry oxygen? Is it causing widespread inflammation? That's affecting all these organ systems. There's something else going on. That probably explains why younger and healthier people are also affected in ways that are surprising but we need to figure that out president trump also saying that he wants to send investigators to China Over the various issues including transparency Chinese government obviously is hit a lot of information from its own people as well as the world you spoke with the head of the CDC Dr Robert Redfield about this as far back as February. What did Redfield have to say back? Then yeah even then this middle of February and I and I was curious because we heard this all the cases of people who had this infection were exposed to this wet market initially that it was all from animals to humans and then I started reading journal Articles. That suggested. That wasn't the case. The first patient had no contact with the wet market. In fact a third of the original patients had contact with this market. So wanted to understand. What did we know? And when I asked Dr Robert Redfield about that again. Mid-february take a listen. Do you as head of the CDC. Trust the information coming out of China is outbreak did start earlier and it did have evidence of human to human transmission earlier than Our Chinese colleagues at least publicly appreciated or even in the discussions that I had with my counterpart. What do you think it is well? I think it's above the medical. You think it's a political. I think it's above the medical. I don't think the director of CDC making that decision. I think it's a political decision. Why I think it's all I can say is I think it's above the director. Cdc Because I know he would love to have a system Jake if you if you listen closely there. He says not only publicly. Was this information being transmitted. But even you know under these these sort of closed transmissions between the CDC. Dr Robert Redfield wasn't being told this either so there was a real lack of transparency. And some of the core issues here. Jake Yeah. The Chinese government Keeping this information from the CDC and from their own people. Dr Sanjay Gupta. Thank you so much appreciate it. Be Sure to listen to Sanjay's Daily. "The end breaking news. Welcome to the lead. I'm Jake Tapper this afternoon. The World Health Organization Director General warned that the time to act against the coronal reiver's corona virus was actually one month ago but that this is a second opportunity an opportunity quote which we should not squander and do everything to suppress and control this virus unquote this hour the number of deaths in the US now more than eight hundred to give you some perspective on how fast the death toll is accelerating yesterday. At this time there have been six hundred. Forty six deaths. The cases of course confirmed cases also continuing despite growing about eleven thousand just in the last twenty four hours now we have close to sixty two thousand people infected in the US confirmed in fact. It's real numbers. Assuredly more than that one hospital system in New York has seen a tenfold increase in corona virus patients in the past week. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says the hospitalizations across the state are surpassing predicted numbers. So far and that the peak of this crisis there could still be three weeks away the calls for ventilators and protective equipment across the country. Still Dire as we learned thirty. Three doctors have now died from the virus in Italy. The Italian Federation of Doctor saying lack of protective equipment is to blame and the World Health Organization says the entire world in fact is facing a significant shortage and as C. N. N.'s. Nick Watt reports for us now states across the country are bracing for what's next there are field hospitals in Manhattan College. Dorms being converted existing hospitals upping capacity a Navy hospital ship coming soon but New York is still twenty thousand beds shy of what they say. They'll need then we're looking at hotels. We're looking at former nursing homes Co. They had four thousand ventilators. They bought seven thousand more. Fema delivered four thousand but New York is still fifteen thousand short where exploring splitting we're one ventilator could do to patients there now opening some streets to pedestrians to reduce density in city parks and no more group sports like basketball but there is hope the rate of hospitalizations in New York is now slowing. The evidence suggests that the density control measures may be working confirmed cases non spiking elsewhere more than doubling in Louisiana. Since early Monday at least eighteen more deaths reported today in New Jersey The W. H. O. Now says the. Us doesn't have to be the next global epicenter. A means of turning it around she says by testing tracing contacts isolating and many of us continuing to quarantine as around half of all Americans are now under orders to do foreseeing a doubling once a day in depths from Corona virus the doubling time is only one day and that is the worst in the world right now waffle house which prides itself on. Staying Open. Even during hurricanes now-closed nearly one in five of its diners. Amazon crotch for so many staying home is now dealing with corona virus cases among workers in at least nine facilities nationwide Walmart Kroger and others now adding sneeze guards to check lanes. Now Governor. Cuomo came up with a plan this morning. He said. Why don't we get as many ventilators? Many supplies to New York right. Now while they're experiencing the spike then when the virus spikes elsewhere in the country we move that equipment with it. The problem is one of a number of places get slammed at the same time you know. Today we've had eleven states and different parts of the country all reporting one hundred or more new confirmed cases. Jake Yeah. It's hard to imagine any governors turning over their equipment to a different state when they know that the worst is coming a Nick Wa. Thank you so much. Cnn's Dr Sanjay. Gupta joins us now and Sante. There's so little guidance. Obviously we know if somebody is having trouble breathing he or she should call the Er go to the RCN. It's possible but let me ask you about hypothetical. What if somebody is in one of the vulnerable groups over sixty with pre existing conditions and that person has corona virus or were strongly thank so maybe even has tested positive now? The person is not having trouble breathing but has a fever is week is having trouble eating and drinking maybe because of the loss of sense of taste the loss of appetite should that person go get checked out at an Er to get assessed maybe even to get hydrated with an ID. Yeah Jake I think without question you know you have somebody who is elderly who who may not have the classic symptoms of Corona virus but a lot of patients don't have the classic symptoms of Corona Virus. But the idea now that they're not keeping fluids down food down. That's a concern and the problem is you can get behind pretty quickly in a situation especially again if someone is elderly couple things. They should call ahead. Let them know that they're coming especially if they've tested positive because that way they can be put in a room that's GonNa be isolated. You want to get other people sick. Obviously and You know after that. It's just a question of of getting that hydration and hopefully being able to go home but there are going to be scenarios like this one thing I want to point out because I think sometimes this has lost on people is that we talked about the vulnerable population the elderly seventies and eighties. But you're still far more likely even at that age to not need to go to the hospital to not get very sick from this while you're more likely than younger people you know. The hospitalization rate for people in their seventies and eighties is closer to twenty twenty-five percent. Which means seventy five to eighty percent of people? Don't need the hospital. Sometimes I think people perceive the story as being just automatic sentence for people who are elderly. It's not most of the time it's not but if you do if you're having those symptoms that I describe you should go to the hospital. Let me ask you. President trump is hoping to live should. Yeah the president. Trump is hoping to lift the restrictions on movement and social gatherings by Easter. That's just eighteen days from now it was hedged a little bit yesterday during the briefing Dr Found. She said that the date needs to be flexible. What do you think is the impact if the President says okay? Everyone crowd the pews on Easter. Even if foul she is saying that's not my advice. Yeah and she has been very clear on this. Let's follow the data is what he keeps saying. Sort of. It sounds like he's being flexible there. But the reality is Jake. We know what the date is gonNA show right now. The picture that we're getting from the data is reflective of ten to fourteen days ago We know that during this time the viruses clearly been spreading. You've heard that some some places. The doubling rate is every two days sometimes even faster than that some of these places. So you know the data's going to look worse at the time that they're starting to think about pulling back that that's going to be clear. I think so In fact some some estimated that we may start to be getting to the peak in terms of patients needing to be in the hospital. So I think it's very hard to imagine that in April around Easter. That could possibly look like a scenario where it's time to start relaxing things. And we've seen some places. Some countries think that they were out of the woods relax restrictions and then they get another spike in the disease comes back with a vengeance. Hong Kong has been the example Hong Kong was the place that you and I were talking about is showing a good example of how things can can go and cases can remain low. They relaxed the restrictions and they doubled their cases within a few days. So if you're going to do this it has to be done early. It has to be done consistently has to be done. Diligently has done honestly all those things we talk about. If you take your foot off the gas at some point you kind of you. Run the risk of erasing a lot of the gains. You may have made a leading epidemiologist one who advises the CDC has estimated that the peak of deaths in this country will be three weeks from now. So we need to keep doing this social distancing. Right look I mean the three weeks from now. People hear that they think well. That's not that far away. I think one of the points of that study is that it's too soon in a way because that's not a flat curve like we want right. You want this to be a flatter curve. That's where you see the people actually peaking later on so you. Don't you know not? All these people are rushing the hospitals at the same time. So he's sort of making those projections on the existing sort of social.

"Six time for the Jake. Yeah. And it's about time we have some estrogen out there, right and conservative estrogen giving conservatism of makeover. Solo right on ninety three. Welcome to the chicks on the right show where the checks daisy. Hello Brian Baker sitting in for rob KENDALL today that was our brand new intro new year. New look at. Oh my gosh. We've been gone forever. I know feels like we've been gone for absolutely ever. I know it was getting to be kind of a long vacation now. Like at some point. I was like I'm miss her. Yeah. I miss you too. Like the beginning of last week. I was like, yeah. I think I'm ready to go back. That time we may rethink our all two weeks at the end of the year thing because it turned out to be three too long. It was a long they can barely remember how to do this. But we do have so many things to get to holy crap. Yeah. A lot of stuff's been going on. I didn't know until I woke up this morning that the Golden Globes happened last night. Yeah. They sure did. So normally I would watch that especially because I read that the host, Sandra. Oh, who I guess it's a big deal that she was the first Asian check to ever host. She and Andy Sandberg hosted, and they were a political there were no politics two. So K said that was planned, right? Yeah. I said, hey, let's not be political because everybody hates us. Probably a good plan except for Christian bale. Yeah. Can I guess he he couldn't help himself because it was a political movie that he was in? I wanted to see vice and I didn't get around to seeing it. I didn't want to see it. I wanna see it won't see it because it wasn't a very positive view of of Dick Cheney, and it couldn't have been if the script had been positive. I guarantee you Kristen bell wouldn't have agreed to do because he was so awful. We have sound of part of his acceptance speech because of course, he won for best actor, and here's what he said about Dick Cheney. Thank you to that gazer over there. Adam. Essay. He said, I'm to find somebody you can you can be absolutely charisma-free and reviled by body. So he went ask OBI fail. Thank you. All the competition. I will be cornering the market on charisma. "Film critic Matthew socio, Dr associates I like to call them about what to watch. What's look at now than we are done with the political season for a while as way to sort of decompress decompressing just chill and just relax. No this time of year. We should we start to see some of the grownup stuff. Start to start to pop up starts the Oscar things other words, it's time to go to the cross. That's always good to go to keystone crossing. It's real butter and there's a bar. So as we've joked about if you're rude their lease being rude at a higher level. You're nobody picks up their phone and goes, yeah, he's playing chess with death. Yeah. It's all right. If you don't do that, nobody brings screaming babies to the Russian documentary film, those the suffering of the misery and the suffering. Nobody brings a kid at this hour on the pity. Nobody does it. Nobody is picking up the phone rings. So is it hoity toity? Yeah. But at least you're not dragging your babies to it. Something I did notice. Got some time to maybe pick up a few things that are on Netflix. I decided to go in and started watching house of cards with the Robin Wright, and we meet Christopher Plummer is not playing the role this time. Christopher plummer. And it's actually it's interesting sans. Kevin Spacey and the current political wave so she's picking up right where things left off. You got to pick them where things I've talked to have Greg Kinnear. As nice Cutler. Brother sister, never weird believe what's going there. Is there? A Billy Ray Miley weird about it. Maybe or is this a Tennessee Williams play kind of awkward. It's like Jack Nicholson in Chinatown, Jake. Yeah. Could be seems like an awkward relationship. But actually, it's not that bad. It took a little while to get used to Kevin Spacey's character not being not being there. But back then like, no one one episode force like, okay, I can finish this there. I believe a political intrigue of backstabbing universal. No matter who starring in it. I think of it is that last year Monty python without Cleese because police went to go to Fawlty towers. Yeah. Pretty much what else is out there. Well, be on the lookout for. Let's see there's there's what I'm intrigue recalled Addy tourneys gate at its Julian Schnabel's bio-pic about Van Gogh or van goch. If you're that person played by Willem Defoe, always going to see Willem Defoe and stuff around. But anything. When I remember correctly about van gum reading anything went in one ear state there. Yes. Exactly. I guess if you want something lighter there's instant family with Mark Wahlberg and rose Byrne. I'm actually strangely enough intrigued with creed to why. Because everybody's available because now you have creeds the son of Apollo creed. And the son of Ivan Drago fighting, and of course, dolph Lundgren's available and slides available. So sure why not. You know, I I think the last I saw that actually liked was masters of the universe. The expandable 's. Okay. Yeah. All right. We also we should never forget masters universe. Also had Franklin Gela. Jello, skeletal war. And also wondering also played the original punisher like the nine hundred ninety really bad. I got a good version of that. In fact, I recently revisited after Dracula I sat down and watched several versions of Dracula, including what they call disco drag because had the big open shirts, and they they incorporated a love story more than the other ones. Of data. That was fun. We like did you? See Dracula dead and loving it. You know, what I I need to watch it again because I remembered not being a fan of it. Because after space balls, I think Mr. Brooks's work dips a bit, but there's one bit. We talked about that made me laugh, and it's when you drive the stake through Steven Weber drives the stake through the heart, and it's like hitting a fountain geyser of blood shoots up. And we we we tried to talk our director into doing that. She was against that idea. But, but yeah, I do remember that making me laugh out loud. No. I will try to revisit that. And also there was another Dracula version where it's like a Dracula vs Frankenstein of really bad cheesy. How Adamson film I remember channel four Detroit counts scary, hosted it. Channel thirty to send us Mongolia. Same say, yeah, that's really not not an exciting film. I think you need to watch that with rips. That's a hard hard to watch on its own. Let's put it this. Folks, you watch that movie you'll be driving a stake through your own heart. You open the coffin decide you'll run to the sunlight, yeah, not not good. Our good friend. Matthew socio with us for a few more minutes is helping us decompress talk about what is out and about at the movie theaters, and maybe onstage, you're on DVD because we're also can tired of politics and political ads and political Marshall said we appreciate you hanging out. What else you sure there isn't? There's also I how you are also a fan of the Coen brothers. Here's in select theaters on November eighth. I don't know if it's an indie, but it will be a net. Flicks on November sixteenth. But it's a it is a an theology series called the ballot of BUSTER Scruggs. And it's the Coen brothers making six short western stories. And it has a cast includes Liam niece, and Tim Blake Nelson Zoe. No, no, no Zoe Kazan Tyne Daly, Saul Reuben AC one of the great that guys. And of course, when you have an anthology like this summer going to be better than others. It could be a mixed bag, but I I will still take a mixed bag from the Cohen brothers people. I think people scraped they say the bottom of the list brothers and stuff like intolerable, cruelty and lady killers. I'm all right with that. You actually did enjoy burn before reading. What what did we learn don't ever do that again? So no, I will take I will take a swing and instrument Cohen brothers anytime. So I'm hoping I'm obviously have high hopes for this anthology series. Now, there's something else that I really am looking forward to see and technically just make me a really bad horrible evil person. And you just called me for creed too. Spiderman. Only animated. What is your Cup of tea? From different parallel universes. And would really made my day was the little spider ham character because his name is Peter Parker. The spectacular spider hammer pig Matt Groening's ticked off about that spider ham. When I saw that. I was like oh my God. I have to see this. All right. Here's here's an I'm going to lob this easy softball to the world. What would your Spiderman be? Mine would be miles Morales. Okay. All right. The black spider man who goes to a charter school. Got my favorite things. Black people spider, superheroes and charter schools all wrapped up into one. So Peter Parker is going to. PS? He's gonna innovation. Oh parker. He's gonna innovation school who are your aunt. And uncle. Know who your uncle is. So your angrier and. Nah. My my aunt is Pam Grier. But my uncle is James l Jones. Well, that's out bad. That's with with great power comes great responsibility. And this is CNN, and I'm your uncle not your father. Yes. And all hate mail to that's not bad. But the work on that call Sam Ramey, fourteen thirty productions they keep they keep re rebooting it every year. I know what the aunt was mercy told me last time. I think my joke is next the next series is going to be Ariel winter from modern family, but you gotta admit no seen Robert Downey junior and Torme together. It's like this brings back. Fond memory. Yes. It's for those who are who are the nine people who saw only you and theaters Norman Jewison comedy. And that's what I remember. That's what the tell me did after winning the best supporting actress Oscar, so some are friends got a few seconds left. There's one thing you could recommend people do go. See they'll get all the politics other system. What would it be to live theater? Go see a play go see something. Now. It's. Okay. Because thanksgiving's coming up home for the holidays. Direct by Jodie Foster starring Holly hunter and Robert Downey junior in that or pieces of April another dispatch dysfunctional families said and thanksgiving time with Patricia Clarkson who got an Academy Award nomination. Katie Holmes, Oliver Platt, right or our good friend. Dr Matthew soci-, helping me decompress get all that political crap out of my system that I dealt with for the past year. "In that game Lomas good afternoon How you doing today good you how. Did you feel Oh it happens fast guy out felt like a rookie. Out there like I was, back in nineteen eighty-five. Rookie things were happening. That fast but I enjoy it I got. A? Surreal I'm looking. Forward. To these really these next what. Seventeen eighteen. Games yeah you didn't sound like a? Rookie my. Friend you sounded like So it was it was good. To hear, you you know you're you're sitting back there and you're trying to get to know these guys let's start with the bright spot which may. Have been the running game. I know that they didn't get off to a great, start but we saw some certainly. Some flashes of. Brilliance from from. The new guy kerryon Johnson. Tell me about what you saw in him that you like I'm telling you what I liked. The most guy, was. He then goes down you couldn't tackle this guy he was getting hit what, he stayed on the seats and that. Showed me great balance that's owed me, gotta have not and that's not changeable right, then I just love the way again that the defense couldn't. Get him down on the first the, second, hit really. I don't think I've seen them on the ground much and that's a very very good sign. For the running back and, that also helps office. A line especially when. They know they gotta running back that's on. The? Wooded up in. There. And get positive yards so looking. At it. From a whole Sample now so we've got a long ways to go but it was a, positive sample that we got yeah and. You know it can he be that, third down short yardage guy do you see, that the ability to carry a couple of guys on his. Back well I yeah but I actually First second third No catch the ball yet when he could definitely be a first and second down, back and, yes Be the guy that if you're in the goal line get him in there and you could get that one or two yards that you need The, score the ball so I think he could be a total weapon, and, you know again. You got to see highs blocking nails 'cause. You know right now we throw the ball more, than we pass it also we we. Run it. We thought more than we run the ball so we just have. To see high, powered near, but I'll give him a positive started all right we. Also saw Frank rag now left guard for. The first time this is the you know the guy didn't allow, a sack in his college career he gave good protection for for Matt castle and Jake Yeah he did, he, did a good. Job and I know being a rookie your. First game the butterflies were there you know lining, up over the raiders out there away. Game I. Know it was a lot of things going through his mind but. I thought he, did a, real good job you didn't hear his name and normally. When you don't hear ultra lame that's a. Good thing Doing something like that so it was a good. Start for him he had some really three or four good days of practice out there against. The raiders. And, it carried, over to the game so Dan that's a positive he's able to. Take what, he got from the practice seal, and put them in the game. At least at this point we all. Ought to say a prayer and burn some offerings for for Matt for. Matt Stafford make sure he's, healthy, because, didn't, see much, Matt. Castle or Jake even though, they were provided good protection yeah but guy that's why we're. Gonna, have to. Be able to run the ball 'cause again you when you get Matthew back, you don't want him. Dropping back fifty sixty dollars a game by doing you got. To balance out that offense is really a recipe for disaster so, I know that's why again coach Patricia number Frank. Rag now you got kerryon Johnson the Garrett blah will want to get, their own game going Because, they will, hire important is going to be doing the regular Give. Us a quick rundown on defense obviously there, were. Some questions there we know this is a concern for Matt Patricia this is his bailiwick give give. Us, your assessment of those guys before we wrap things up, here well then they show a, lot closer than show a lot. But concerned with the DCFS alive not being able to come off that's an important for the lime in. The be able to get off the block. Of the, office align that's, always, good to, keep his gap integrity you know looking. At Oakland, they I mean they ran the ball one hundred yards so again. I don't, put in a lotta defense is we show a lot but again this technique things then able to get off the block that these guys are going. To continue to work all and should, be better towards the season I don't know if you've, seen it but, something just flashed down the line for us here and that is is that the giants Prime pick Ciclon Barclay was may have been hurt in, practice today oh wow And apparently need. A little help. To get off the field after running a route. In, practice That would. Certainly. Be. A huge, blow, for the, giants what are you looking for from them come Friday wow yeah I mean again you know they wanted to establish themselves again They they went out with the second peace they. Got saquon Barkley why because they needed? A wanna. Game. Why. Because they, need, help with, their office alive and they know That would help that office and three they needed it for he lied because he li- has slipping but he. Hasn't, had much of a run a game. Around him so you. Could see I import in the a game meals to quarterbacks and it's going to be important for Matthew again we continue to have a run game they help him out apparently he made a beautiful play on a, deep ball and beat out both Ogle tree and Jenkins to make. The catch off of a pass. And they deleted, it from their Twitter account because apparently it wasn't very the aftermath wasn't very. Pretty when. They had. To wrap. His legs. So we'll see what happens there in the meantime Lomas you have yourself a great week and will listen to you on Friday thanks guys take care all right Lomas Brown the voice of the. Detroit Lions here on NewsTalk seven. Sixty WJR talking about, this sixteen ten loss, to the raiders that we can now put. Out of our minds. And? Bring on those giants and they're. Young? Guys as well when we come back got a little personal Thing of thin close to our family here WJR that we want to share with you also talk a little bit about your privacy and how. "What's been happening around the country but we focused on it because of ferguson people being in jail simply because they weren't able to pay a parking ticket but go on jake yeah ferguson is a great example of this and many other communities have the same problem where many people are being sent to jail and for reasons that aren't that serious and maybe they don't stay very long even a short jail state can have a big impact on how many people are we talking about each year that's a really difficult question in part because we know roughly the number of admissions around eleven thousand to jail each year eleven jacobs here to fact check but it's hard to say how many people that represents and really critically it's because often people end up cycling in and out of the system particularly after initial contact piece of that is that many people who come into contact with the system again particularly in jails incarcerations front door am tends to have their overrepresented with mental health issues and substance abuse issues and often those two things are co occurring and so rather than i think to really have an idea mind of the people going into jail being somehow criminal genetic or worse people they're often the people who other institutions in the community have simply failed we haven't helped them in any other wife this gets us way off in in reading the reports and the reporting that i've done in my other day job it always strikes me that where is the discretion of a of a judge looking at someone who is in there to go back looking at the records that you've been a parking ticket led to this led to that led to a stay led to this led to that and now you're here and you're facing lord knows how much time in jail now do judges have the discretion to say you know what this is this is a little jacked up and i'm not i am not going to do this to this person yes usually they do it depends on the state of course men most judges have the opportunity to take the individual characteristics of the person and their case and their communal history and their past and take that all into account they consider the most appropriate sanction or yeah so in terms of.
