"Oh. My goodness. You know everybody can use a little comedy a little laugh here and there in their life, right? That's right. Many of them. Yes. Thank you again to thank you for allowing us to share that with everyone tonight. Thank you Frankie. Lee. And now we are going to bring in our first guest of the evening, Mr Darby, Kern writer and director creator of the Jake Muller Adventures and script writer for multiple shows for for many many years. He's GonNa talk to us a little bit about creating a series from the ground up and how that differs from a book for audio. Hi I'm Darby Iron. I am the creator of the Jake Muller Adventures and exciting audio drama that was released last year, and is now in the running for a couple of Seneca warts and I'm very excited about that. At a great cast and crew in very proud of all of them and I wish them best luck. I would like to talk to you a little bit about the difference between. Adapting audio dramas in creating them. From the ground up really the Jake Muller ventures was an idea and original idea that I had that came to me over a period of time started with an image of a man running across a frozen lake with his hunting rifle. And I had to figure out what was going on from there. So I created a mystery in my head and figure out what it meant, and then followed it to what you can actually listen to right now is an audio drama. Didn't happen quickly I. usually come with some of these ideas almost creating an elevator pitch first and then wait a little while this case was probably about a month month and a half and I reread it and said still like that idea. So then I continued with it. It really was a couple years that it just stated. Then I found a partner in the project Mike Touche He created the artwork for the Jake Muller ventures art in. He was my sound designer for the program in did an amazing job of both so then we then we cast it I had great great actors have. There wasn't a done in the bunch and. I'm very proud of of every one of them a couple of the nominate here today. But some. Recording it was just a great time had loves spending time with creative people especially, actors they have great stories they know how to have fun and still stay very committed to the work which they did. It was fantastic and we ended up with an audio drama them out of. And hopefully, we'll be able to raise money to continue the story. I I'm so excited to to bring Jake Muller Adventures unidentified to so because it was an original idea because I had so much fun and I really admire all of people that I worked with on it. I've been asked if I did a lot of lengthy bio material on the characters for the Jake Muller Ventures and the answer is Kinda. Jake has. Background that it's pretty well thought out are you on is as is well thought out, but there's other characters in the story that. I. Don't know exactly what their background is like growing up. I could go on for about half an hour and explain to you jake and Arianna relationship in some detail which sauvage will come out in future stories. But I don't have that for many of the other characters. It's not because they don't matter as much. It's because I I know Jake Arianna really the focus of the story. So I've given a lot to them. Do I know how the characters got to where they are at that point in their life? At. That point of the story yes, I do I could I could tell you that do I know the guys who work with Jake in his office and can I tell you about them so that it will be cohesive in the story yeah. I can do that. But I can't tell you where you know the Dr went to medical school yet I can't tell you where he grew up is probably in Upper Michigan someplace. Yemen, that's. I don't think he needs to do a lot of that stuff part of the thing jake to that. He's on a on a growth journey throughout the story in Arianna both so I need to know where they came from. If the character doesn't sat doesn't have a journey that they're on specifically I'm not gonNA worry about that. Usually though when I'm working and have been a paid audio drama script writer for about twenty three years now. Most of what I do is adaptation of that have already existed. I started with the left behind series was lead writer on seventy two episodes of left behind the kids. And Then I worked on about twenty four episodes of what I call the adult series kind of an air quotes because it's really more for a grownup audience, not because there's adult content and then I, was able to do four episodes of the. independent drama left behind the.

"It's at Christmas gift to you. And we have just a phone conversation with Darby Kern audio drama writer. So that's what we got for you on today's episode. And Roy. A gift to you. You don't have to do a newscast. I know that's gotten so far sir. Thank you judy. While we're really excited to talk with Darby and I think we should just jump right into it. What you guys say? Let's do it. Yeah Well we are absolutely thrilled to have Darby Kurna on the show today. The creator of the Jig Muller Adventures he has written for there's so many different audio dramas but before that he's been a restaurant manager a medical writer Occupational Health Coordinator Pharmacist and a whole bunch of other things. But now he's an award winning filmmaker writer of hundreds of radio dramas including left behind left behind the kids kids corner lamplight or theater heirloom audio. Most recently the Jake Miller Adventures and he has a novel. That's GONNA be coming out in twenty twenty. He lives in Titletown USA where he's involved with a classical education academy and he's a tour guide at Lambeau field. Darby thank you so much for joining us on the show today. Hey you're welcome I. I sound pretty neat. I guess yes you can spend anything so I have to start off with this. Because I used to live in Wisconsin myself. I have been to Green Bay beautiful beautiful area. Where is the best place? Just in case they ever find myself there again which I really hope I do. But where's the best place to get deep fried cheese Kurds in Green Bay. Oh you know. It's funny because because there's so many different styles but I think right now. My favorite is actually at Lambofield in the restaurant. Nineteen thousand nine hundred kitchen and tap. Those are the best that I've had in a long time. I haven't had real good wisconsin cheese curd in such a long time. And I'm having withdrawals and I just. I think they try they there. There's word I give them. A solid seven out of ten and turns even go Hornet five but in terms of a fast food place. Then yeah. They're definitely up there but you know it doesn't beat right the fresh made ones. But we're we're not gonNA talk about food. Although we probably do that for an hour episode I probably could well. I did want to start off with this because I know that that you're a big fan of the shadow and we are as well and it's one of my phantom radio shows but do you have a favorite episode. The Yeah I do. It's probably one of the first ones that I ever heard. I actually actually say two of them. And they're both Orson welles episodes also from Wisconsin by the way but let's The temples of Napalm is one of them. And that's where you actually is. The only time on the radio show that you actually hear any hint of of his origins and he says something about when he was in India there was a young girl who sat outside the door of the the the temples in Delhi or something and she turns out to be the villain the peace to you. Hear that one of the Yogis there I think he he says taught him the power of invisibility. And and that's that's a great one problem. One of my favorites does called death from the deep. And it's about out this and goes up the submarine and he blows up all the ships and then kills the people for absolutely no reason at all except he's insane insane the just the thrill of it. You know what that is the very first episode of the shadow that I ever heard is that right. That's a good. That's a good one to start with. Is that you know some of them go downhill from there. But it's it's such a fun show it's Goofy and fun at times and sometimes really serious about it early early episodes. They made some interesting sociological points. So yeah I like it. But what are your feelings on the Cabbie. Well what do you call them on the show shree. Yeah he's he's a good source of humor but it's funny because all these characters came from the pulse by that's not true Margot lame actually originated on the radio show and I went to the pope's by the in the books. Shreve is is much more serious than us. This kyw almost as mercurial is a shadow at times where all it does is show up and drive a car her every once in a while few lines or something but he's not a comic character at all so it'd be fun because it's been a dream mine. It's really safe to say for decades that I'd love to do a shadow audio drama with first of all today's technologies and Basit partly on radio show and then partly on the pulse because the pulse have these really rich characters and and There's very little that's actually revealed about the shadow. He's he's more of a force of nature than yeah than else else and I enjoyed that. He's not you know the handsome man about town. In fact he's not even Lamont Cranston in the pulse and and later on you find out he's gotten in Kent Allard and then you find out that that might not be true either. So it's bizarre but I mean that's the way they wrote those stars back then Walter Gibson wrote like two hundred eighty novels been other fifth year so by by a couple of other authors. But you know he had he had a great plan in his head and he just never revealed it. All which I think is great. And it's part of Jake Muller too so yeah yeah it's fun what about you you guys you WanNa see a shadow On trump new one shirt absolutely absolutely. Well it's probably not gonNA happen unfortunately for the same reason that we're not going to get a movie anytime the company that you Kinda Nasty owns the character and They're Kinda nast however you set. Maybe I just think of them as nasty traffic the they are being really really tough about letting the rights out in fact I think all the comic books have ended. Michael useless who who's bruised for the Batman Movies and You Know Sam Raimi's trying to get a project on a project on the they weren't interested at all and I don't think it's a matter of money I think they just they don't care so for that reason I think is probably not going to happen and I'm sad about that. Yeah so is there any other. Ot are shows that you like besides your to favored. Yeah I love gangbusters. Have you ever heard gang bust. Yes US passing rates rates stars in great acting on that in fact You guys remember are old enough to remember the radio. Rerun cassettes nine known. That name doesn't I mean I know. Radio spirits cassettes. But I don't know radio reruns. Uh Radio Rerun may have been like the precursor to to radio spirits and they they put out a handful of of well. I shouldn't say that there's probably a couple of hundred of them but they put out some in the first just one that my dad actually bought it for me was a gangbusters APP so called the case of the four feathers and you guys remember that one now that was not gonna bail out. It's it's great. It's some of the best acting ultime radio I've ever heard and I have no idea who's people are but It's a story about these stave Dave crackers in San Francisco and and One of them like the ringleader one day brings a gun along with them and everybody else's like a or cracking cracking safes. Were not robbing banks rather than you doing. And he starts getting in trouble with his friends and then his girlfriend who's really seriously twisted to begin life because she let she almost lets them she provokes him until he beats her up and then she has to go to work as a waitress or something and then the cops companies see are all bruised up and and and then all of a sudden. It's really easy for the COP. Convinced her that she is. She's not GonNa get anywhere with this guy so she ends up turning them in and it's a it's a great story and I just ruined it for everybody but it. It has some of the best acting I have ever heard and in audio drama crazy from probably probably don't like the nineteen forties. Yeah yeah that's a great show. Another one of my favorites is I was a communist for the FBI. That's the intrigue and all that show is just great. I've never heard that. Oh man that was so good. What was the name Dana Man? I don't remember I'm blanking on his name. His his last name this large database of information that we could possibly tap as well as Internet is a fad adds so much long exactly. It might go down as we speak it just might we might be responsible for that. And I don't know if that's good or a bad thing. Yeah I really. I haven't heard that one but I'd love to is it old time Radio Elia okay. Yeah because I think I enjoy it so basically it it was This guy goes undercover in the Communist Party. But he can't even tell his family so they all think that he has turned turned communist here in the US and it just goes through the whole the the psychological things that he has to go through the the rejection from his family and and all for this job of working for the FBI and it's just it's fascinating Dana Andrews was was the The actress Oh sure okay. He just does a fabulous job with it. Yeah good actor. Yeah Wow I need to look into that. I will check that as soon as we're done. My Dad also really got me into the lone ranger when I was young. But that's fun and I I mean I remember the. TV show because they would run reruns in the afternoon but When when my dad said no no no not not? TV You got you gotTa Outta here on the radio and there was a station in Milwaukee that would play Some of those shows every now. And that's what I heard the shadow they'd also place him Lone Ranger. I know we gotta a record from a coca. Cola did some promotion and I had two episodes on it and I think I ran that record record down to the amount of powder probably listen to it. You know if I if I had it now and I put it on and listen to it. I could probably to this day as it's running quote the whole show as one of those. I think we all have those shows right exactly. Yeah well talk a little bit about your script writing process you know. There's IT's a different. I'm sure a different approach when you are writing something original than versus adapting getting something. So can you talk us through a little bit about your process for adapting a novel. You've done a lot of that for a lamp lighter and four G. Hinchey the very first step you take when you when you begin the process. Well the sound stupid and sounds like it's going to be snarky answer but I read the book two or three times sure and You know I go through it and try to try to distill what you know. Let's just say Gianatti try to distill. What his messages into something? That's maybe one sentence or two sentences and make sense and seems like something that I want to write about. You know an example for the temple. I'm really interested in first of all historically that period of time but some of the things that were a result of the Jewish people just rejecting objecting Christ is the Messiah and has God and As I was going through that story there there was an unpaid peeling the onion. In a way that was like okay. These people would not be behaving this way. If they had known that the Messiah had been here. You Know Twenty Years Before the thirties before this. And what what is the result of that rejection and really what it comes down to is what she prophesied the temple is going to be destroyed. Not One brick would stay stan top of the other and and that's essentially what happened and that's what happens in the story and it's it's.

"That. I need to go to Portillo's and do some marketing research and find out what I asked him. We need to go. Try It because there is one phoenix now and he said had we need to go. Try It yeah we keep passing it. It's right on our way home and We thought about going the other night so left to move it up on the priority list near Darby Darby Portillo. And I'm glad to hear that pastor. Oh Mac will be back. Yes that's awesome. Feel so good. Yeah and go by the audio drama to yes he w yeah. Yeah because I understand again. Eleven year old has a pretty tight budget. I get it yeah. Yeah but maybe your parents yeah whichever you could squeeze your parents for money. That's only twenty bucks. I mean yeah. It's not bad at all especially the link Check out this story so we had it real quick we had it and I we were traveling and it was a group of six of us and I was playing for the long car ride. And there's a family in that didn't have the story now like like. Wow this is amazing. What is this you know? I'm like give me the link I want to buy it right now and so like there we go you know about. Yeah yeah directed right there to the link. I think they bought it like right there while we were listening to it and so yeah it works. That's awesome yeah because it's cool enough to listen to more than once. I think that's the key that's the key I I can't tell you how many times it listen to it. You nailed it there Andrew. I just had a lightbulb when you said that I see that's the thing you know it's gotTa be good enough that you WANNA listened to it over and over a yeah yeah that totally makes sense otherwise because the best word of mouth is like hey listen to this Right yeah and if it's something like Oh that's it's really cool that's neat at but it's not compelling enough to pick up again. Why would they buy it again? What's the point? Or why would they buy it to listen. Yeah unless you can't finish the story of course then that's really a good marketing because you leave them hanging I always liked to pause my audio dramas. We listened to in class ready to cliffhanger. The kids get very unhappy. Well and if you are a member of the live the adventure club they have actually added Jake Muller Adventures to the clubs. So you can go listen to for free. You can't download it but you can stream it. You'RE GONNA WANNA buy it though so you can actually have an actual offline copy. Well a speaking of live the adventure club Asya called in and left us a voicemail and just give us a heads up that there's also an audio book it was added to the live the adventure club. I have not listened to it and yet it's called the Coral Island by R M Ballantyne. He said it wasn't really up his alley. But it's worth checking out if you are a member it's extra extra content that they're putting out there While they're working on their own projects now don't get this confused with the audio drama called Curl Island Adventures. This is something completely different. This is an audio book called the Coral Island so but I thought that was worth Pointing out so thank you Joe Safer that heads up and we got an email from book learner in in response to Episode One twenty four. Hi guys thank you for the blog. Plug Hey Emoji wing face. That was very kind from a female's perspective effective and I'm old enough to remember Uncle Charlie an keys for kid after school Emoji Smiley face. I love being immersed into an audio world full of depth and emotion. I love adventure but I don't need perpetual action for me. What's most important is a story that takes you summer worthwhile? Weil but besides that the acting and soundtrack because they engage the fields if will done intricate sound effects are important for for making it sound more realistic but are really the icing on the cake. And I think this cat goes to examine what you're saying there a moment 'cause she saying I don't need perpetual action Shen. Yeah I just need something. That's an important story in. It's worthwhile taking me somewhere. And that's the same thing as something you're going to want to experience over and over exactly exactly. Is this where my money is. Just my time we go all right. Yeah you're right. I remember losing interest in I o around age thirteen. I have tried to get back into it but the characters have all changed. It doesn't feel familiar anymore I'm interested in the burgeoning world of audio fiction podcast but an frustrated because most of it seems geared toward the fantasy slash sci fi genre which. I'm just not that into and that is true. The early too much the glut of those popped elliptical. ooh I can't stand that I I don't understand why I think it's because it's easy sound effects for that stuff is easy. You don't have. It's all care. Yeah you don't have to do a lot of work for it because it's an unfamiliar world so you can make anything you want. Yeah he can use beeps and boots and BOPs in Stephan. It works but there's so much of that stuff out there absolutely right and most of it is marked e unfortunately Zack which means explicit. But Yeah Yeah Yeah Okay I would love to see other genres emerged a minimum in and yes I agree. There's definitely a place for clean adult Audra. That isn't the kitty stuff. Inter Green in hotels. All right one for them. Regarding heirloom audio productions. I have no way of knowing for sure but it seems as if the Hindi dramas lost a great creative force force composer. Aaron Fallen left the crew question Mark Question Mark Question Mark Question Mark Question Mark. I was sad when I learned that a point of order you added a question. Russian Martin hoops only four minus one question mark. I got carried away. Thank you so much for the feedback. Their Book Learner and now to clarify one point here Erin fallen never actually scored any of those audio dramas. He did compose the backing tracks for their audio promos in the trailers and a lot out of that stuff but he was also involved in behind the scenes as associate producer. In in many of the shows yes. I don't know exactly what all his role role in entailed but I do know that he was very instrumental there in the office with the crew and helping keep things running smoothly. So I'm sure his absence is is very felt in office there. If you go listen to that podcast. That Roy mentioned in his newscast earlier. You'll find out a little bit more more about the situation is going on there and that might explain it but a little bit more. But we don't know exactly what he did. But I'm sure that there is a a loss there in the heirloom offices. But hopefully they're going to get back on their feet and keep producing really great audio drama and then we got an email from from amy lily. High Jd Andrew. And Roy. "Jd the Andrew. Yesterday I received a letter from the big email package for today. Actually it gives you mail yes it. Is that time of the episode time to hear from you. The listener feedback segment. If you'd like to get in touch with us. You can email US feedback audio theatre. Peter Central Dot Com comment on the show notes. Or send a text or a voicemail to six to three six eight two seven seven zero and and real quickly. I WANNA rewind for just one second because I forgot to say this that Mule Guide his name was Lester MIC scroggins and first of all I thought was hilarious name and I love that character and I just want to mention that that that was my favorite character that NATO did in this in this series used so good but anyway back to the feedback segment. We got comment on episode one. Twenty four from J. Benjamin. We were talking about the adventures. Obviously and we got to talking in the feedback segment about other shows that are made for for an older audience and he said another family friendly audio drama for adults that he thought of his the spirit blade trilogy and he said he's been meaning to get that one but but always seems to get stuck on the kid stuff of course when you got kids. That's what you absolutely. But that's a good point. I don't why I didn't think of that one when we were talking about it last time. Time but Yeah the spirit. Trilogy is a great one for adults. Frankly there's nothing. Unique is not appropriate for kids necessarily. But it's pretty intense and I frankly don't think kids would enjoy it too much because it's it's pretty deep in writing so but that is one that you can check out. And they're quite affordable actually over at Spear Blade Dot Com. We also got voice mail from easy and he brought the whole bunch of different topics in this message and so I just wanted to thank him for sending that in we will definitely be going through some of his feedback in parsing it out because he brought up so many different topics. So we're not gonNA play the message in this episode. Did WanNa thank him for sending that so. Thank you easy. And then we received to comment from Antonio on Audio Theatre Central One twenty four and he said a teenage slash young adult market for audio drama is starting to make headway. Because does the kids that grew up in the two thousands in two thousand ten are starting to get old enough to be in that market. Really yes what he's saying. I've always been in planning one in my head because it needs to be thing it does need to be and Antonio now I don't know how old you are or what connections as you have but if you've got the ideas you got one planned. Hey it's easier than ever these days to make your own thing so find out what you need to get it done and do it got an email from Malachi. Hi Roy Andrew an JD. WHOA everyone's taken? Thank you Malachi appreciate appreciate that I love. ATC exclamation mark. I am a new listener but am now going to listen forever like it and I also I love audio drama but lots of the good stuff like breathing. Adventures is too expensive for me. Can you suggest some cheap in free audio drama that I can listen to. You have come to the right place all right. I Love Adventures in Odyssey. I am eleven years old. I like oh I think wooten should be should work at Whitsun. He is a perfect fit. Sincerely Malachi that we have the show where he worked at I show yeah welcoming wooten filled in for Connie right that he did. Yeah and can understand some of these auditors being out of the budget of an eleven year old. Yeah absolutely that makes sense. Yeah there's there's some Christian friendly free ones on podcast podcast APP. Yeah so check out. Kids corner positives. Those are all free and through the his kids dot Natalie. That's it's what it used to be the keys for. Kids Radio's radio You can listen to down Gilead Lane for free there as well. You can't decide which one you're gonNA listen to but you can listen to Davis show schedule the based on where you're we're so also lamplight or releases as their airing on the radio. They put them up on their website every week to stream. So there's some options for you there Malachi but of course most audio does cost money because it costs money to make it so alltime. Radio is free. If you can get there you go absolutely suit radio DOT net. Coo T- that is to play video Dunnett all the old time radio. They're basically they've kept expanding expanding expanding. They've got so much there now. It's crazy I've been trying to find some kind of scripting solution to allow me to download the MP threes in one go instead of having to click on each one but no luck so far it looks like a grand total of twenty minutes it so and then we had a comment from Darby. Kern at named sounds very familiar to me. Thank you by the way Mr Kern supplying us with such good audio drama. Yes Jake Miller all the heirloom audio that you've been associated associated with it's amazing lamp. Letter are awesome lamp later. Extraordinarily little made is still one of my favorite. Yeah and that's when he wrote such good stuff and he says you clearly enjoy Jake Muller more than say Wolf the Saxon. Oh sure pick the one thing. We said that wasn't stellar. No no no I do appreciate the kind words. But I found the rest of the podcast very insightful because the feedback section you discussed all the reasons we wanted to make nick. Jama in the first place older kids who are done with Odyssey which I love are absolutely our crowd. I don't have any real insight on how to reach them yet but I hope we will soon. Without more sales. The story of Jake Muller will be done with one. Feel free to tell all your friends that you heard an amazing audio drama and no they can't borrow your down. Hey Man. It's true that we do support that message. Totally having said that I truly believe the Lord will honor. The show's long as we honor him. We're nearly ready. Need to record the second series wants the money comes in with one possible problem and this is something I humbly ask you to pray about Dugan the actor playing Jake. His daughter Eva Eva has suffered a serious head trauma in August and that family would absolutely cover. Your prayers is an amazing young man. Going through a struggle. I can only only imagine along with his wife Lindsay. Please keep them in your prayers definitely. That's that's horrible. I can't even imagine what that would be like. Absolutely absolutely it goes on to say regarding carpark good spot the phrase is uttered by a man in black. There's an international. Oh presence to these guys. Don't want to say too much more than that right now. Phil makes me hungry to. They were eating food from Portillo's a Chicago chain of awesome food of which they just built one in Phoenix. No they were faking it Phil recorded his stuff wild at his home in Kelly that that set the tone for Dugan in the studio who had no food in his hands or mouth either. That's too great actors at work. Their pastor OLMEC will be back awesome awesome. Yes I was blown away by that because I know I've seen some of these other audio dramas of a local actually spiritually productions actions is here locally and I've been to their studio and I know that In some of the scenes where they actually have stuff going on like with water stuff. He'll he'll actually get down and put his face in the water to save. You know his lines. or He's getting held underwater or whatever and so I know that sometimes they actually do have props or something just to help them get into the scene wheel more but it totally sounded like they had food didn't they. Oh Man. Yeah absolutely and the they did all of that with with nothing it was like. Wow that's crazy but and I didn't know that they fill it recorded in California. No me neither sounded so good so almost family style. Yeah wondering when. He said they were for enjoying food. From Portillo's where we supposed to know that based on the menu items they were again and I don't think he's ever eaten rare. Yeah I didn't think so either so I thought that there might be some clues. Were missing.

"That guy with the cameras you do so good yeah but you know then we find he was he was in the army at one time yeah and then there's there's something about his in his past about Sharon that he doesn't talk about and so it's just retreated where he did that and all of this before he's even thirty right yeah there was one way that he does give us a little bit of a snippet of this whole situation with Sharon and the ambassador and that's by using a dream sequence in part two oh it does two things it gives us a little bit more of that story but it also shows us how this whole situation and what happened is still affecting Jake because and in this episode we also hear Mica Touche as the pilot in in that scene. Yeah Yeah I do have a one little gripe pull it out yeah so jake has his team members and throughout the episode are throughout this set of episodes are this production several times he speaks with one of his team members called nate and we never do really get much of nate in the story I'm hoping that he will play a role in some of the future productions because he seems like an interesting character is one maybe I don't know if it's like Jake's right hand with with noble security or what but he calls him several times or meets him and there's a part where he's being Follow Jake is being followed by somebody and yet hawks ten he's talking to nate about it and nate makes a joke saying well maybe he thinks you're cute oh yeah yeah that was a little unnecessary I could've done without that line like what's the point of that you know but that's frankly really I think that's the that's the biggest gripe I have with this whole show yeah we could probably give a recommendation if they're willing to listen okay I was listening to this with one of my students I had actually picked them up was bringing them to school and we're listening to this in anticipation of reviewing it and at one point Jake Muller is trying to reach the FBI agent and he can't get a hold of him and he says shoot now that's what he said and that's not what it sounded like you said we backed it up three times and turn it up allowed and listen to it very closely and we're looking at each other going that really sound but like you said another word that probably wouldn't be contained in a family from the audio drama so if you're taking recommendations maybe find a different word in I honestly I thought I even messaged everybody on stock and I was like am I the only person that heard this what's going on here and everybody confirmed at least yeah it's it's it's hard it's hard to hear it and so it's kind of a perfect storm for especially if you're listening in the car ah might have a little bit of road noise affects it which a lot of families do listen to Stefan rose ex- right exactly right I've only listened to with ear buds so I've heard it clearly but I can totally see what you're saying Yep so I just thought it would be important for us to mention that because when you're choosing words that the character is GonNa Utter in frustration listen cautious with one you pick good point valid point good point we have to throw that that's right but I I love the intrigue of of the back story with Jake in Ari and again we don't have a clue really happened yeah but obviously they dated at some point but that's really all that we learn in this story exactly it's like the perfect mix right you got action romance yeah another thing that I thought was absolutely hilarious in part to Ari Calls Jake while he's being chased this is probably not a good time yeah I'm running for my life yeah exactly and the whole scene of him jumping off into the river is rate oh man great sound design and like the back and forth between Jake and the bad guys and everything perfect perfect scene transitions and everything thinks out a great it was pretty hilarious too yeah well speaking of that so there's a scene after that where he he goes into the bank call man I love it he's stopping wet there was one a little bit of the sound design there the water droplets hitting the bank floor obviously it was like tot tile but probably like marble floor presumably real nice banker whatever but something about those water droplets sounded a little bit off to me I thought maybe it was a little overdone but I thought it was on purpose is to be funny so I didn't really think about it beyond that I thought it was intentional maybe somebody can enlighten us on that it kind of felt like to me that that that is entirely possible maybe they were doing it for more of a comedic effect or something which if so I I still don't think that should happen in a show like this but you know there was something I don't know if it was a reverberates on the effect as it drops or something they're just slightly off it didn't fit the scene one hundred bucks eh again this is a nitpicky thing so when you have a show this is done this well it's hard to find not that we're we're looking at this is what can we fine did just stand out to me that's all I'm saying yeah yeah another thing that stood out to me and this is not necessarily a bad thing but maybe it's just a a peak into we're these bad guys are coming from but when the bags are chatting on the phone so we have one agent who's following call him an agent we don't really know what they are but one guy I'm jake and he's GonNa Checking in with somebody back at the base or whatever is going on wherever their headquarters is or whatever but he says something about Jake jumping from a carpark now that is a British term for a parking lot but this guy does not have a British accent interest so I thought it was using that he would use that term like that is not a North American term. Yeah I thought you were dismissed speaking just now jd in my what are you talking about I did not even think about exactly I didn't either and they also use it in Australia so which is very influenced by the British English. IB's Australia so so I don't know but carpet it was an interesting usage there so maybe darby can enlighten us on that new car the park where you park the car which one yeah so one of my favorite scenes in the entire thing is in part three where Brian Almac the pastor and jake chatting in the hotel and just kind of like going through this whole thing and like all of the scientific facts and stuff yeah but it wasn't like slamming you in the face with all these scientific jargon and stuff it was good just the way that the he talks about it all using scripture and actual scientific research and you know it was really really good yeah but interesting is when you said one of my most favorite seen the whole thing my mind was instantly there and then you call the scene Oh really yeah so it's awesome yeah and another reason why is because the music in that scene so good if it entirely like hand in glove it was awesome it had that suspense to it but it was real creepy as well yeah oh it was just amazing can I just say like the pastor him eating rates may be so hungry word I was like that has got to be the Best Burger in the best like food effect sound while talking I've ever heard in my life I was starving Oh and the ribs I'll just like Fuddy I'm so glad that he was involved story yes I don't know if he's just like a one time character or not but it just shows how talented hi is yeah he's an amazing writer right creates all these amazing characters for these different shows he's a fabulous director Amin it just we we've seen him direct right and and now owned we knew his pay Dale Jacobs for how many years right exactly this him in this role it was so good yes perfect it was perfect and that brings us to the part for the final climax here which we we're not gonNA give away too much here but it just kind of sounds like we have this huge international group of just crazy Weirdos who are that's good rip shouldn't be as who are working with at I'm going to put this in air quotes aliens and we're not going to give that away because I think that the way that is laid out in the show it's just a fantastic yeah but also in part four's where we get Darby's cameo as hank the tow truck driver is not an unsatisfactory we I thought the way things are tied up as much as they could be for this four parter it was really well done oh yeah oh so last episode we talk about Robin Hood which is one of the best audio dramas now we're talking about Jake Miller adventures on identified which is fantastic it two thumbs way up from me for Oh yeah loved it loved it cannot wait for more I mean this the show is it's phenomenal yet nominal there's a link in the show notes head over to their website Jake Muller Adventures Dot Com and get your copy directly from them that's there they're not using any third party right now trying to raise money to continue the series if this peaks your interest at all go get this audio drama highly recommend it absolutely and it's just a quick shadow here I wanted to say thank you to been Jackson who I don't recall ever reached out to us at ATC The name didn't didn't ring a bell and I apologize if you have reshot to us before but I saw that he had reviewed this production on the Jake Muller website listener if you ever go and buy any of the stuff that we talk about and there is any way to leave feedback to the producer let them know that you heard about it from ABC that actually helps us a lot yeah it lets these producers know that working with us to help spread the word is actually benefiting them so thank you been he said that the this is his favorite or his new favourite audio theater and then he said he heard about it from eighteen and it was better than he even hoped that's cool so thank you ben and Jake Malone Adventures is worth your money and your time to listen to again Lincoln the show notes so what do you think of the show.

"Yeah Jamir employees is right everything that music that the sound affects backeding Oh yeah all excellent I just don't even know where to start I just want to listen to it again yeah I've listened to this album countless times really just going back yeah because it's perfect like he's like it there's enough in it that you can keep listening to it and get new stuff out of it and it's enough action to keep you interested every time and conflict and everything yeah so Jake Muller is played by Dugan sure Bondi and he's also a name that's been around for a while he was in both the left behind series m. left behind the kids and and Arianna Rogers is played by skies iskin Julian cormet is Alissa Hatton Peter Cazin very familiar named John both metal you know is who's an actor on the Brinkman adventures as well as their sound designer and editor and I don't know what I'll he does for the Brinkman Adventures but I was very impressed with his acting in this in this audio drama mini always does good in the Brinkmann's by completely different character right right Christian Gill Plays Nate Hammo and Randy strew plays FBI agent David Beck Phil Lawlor as Pastor Brian Oh man yeah here's a familiar yeah and sharing lane was played by Amy Lily who some people may know as she was also in the left behind series she played Hattie Durham in left behind and many of our listeners may be familiar she played Liz kids corner there you go I know where people only missed that I totally missed that okay side note real quick rabbit trail we had just this month checked out the boxcar children read alright by a female narrator and so we're listening to it all of a sudden like one of the kids voices this comes out of the speaker as Liz the lizard sounds just what in the world is going on and it's Amy Lilly she she's narrating the audiobook and whatever voices for one of the kids is Liz like straight up that's funny unfortunately my wife does not care for the listen boxcar children or over but But yeah anyway I that's crazy I did not pick up on that wow that's awesome yeah well since you brought up an audiobook I'm gonNA mentioned one as well some of you may be familiar with the Sugar Creek gang have you ever heard of those Yup that book series so they are working on the publisher's re-releasing audiobook versions of those books and Amy Lily reads those as well prolific yeah and I've I mean I think she does such a good job with the character Vallejo yeah and yeah it's so interesting to hear her whereas a completely different I mean how do you obviously completely different character and she uses a similar voice which I'm assuming just her regular voice for the character of Sharon in in Jake Muller but she's just a great actress you so good and also I just want to throw this out real quick while we're talking about credits of jared we mentioned Jeremy Pascall did the music he also posted about eleven minutes of score highlights on his website we did I did not know that Eagle isn't that I wish he had just released hole so yeah until this is basically for parts and since this is not intended for radio what you know set in twenty five minute block you know so regret on the Yup thing it's great that we're breaking these old You and absolutely awesome had Chris fabry as the announcer that dude's voice is so awesome I love it so we learn in that very beginning in part one that Jake is a like a private consultant consultant and he has a full team and they take care of stuff all over the world because there's a scene where he mentioned a couple of his teammates one is in like in the Middle East somewhere else I can't recall right now where they were you since you've lost to it so many times I know exactly supply us with Muccio Info right right I can't I can't call up an infant man no but he's based out of Chicago Illinois and it's called Noble Security and but the story opens up in the appea- of Michigan which is interesting so I think if I picked up on everything correctly that the pete his nephew and and his Parents live in Michigan right and so he's visiting them go on a hunting trip with Peter Yeah that's what I gathered as well okay so that's where the story open and and that is an interesting area of the country the upper peninsula of Michigan Nuggets. It's like its own world up there really just a Lotta open country up there and so that's an interesting place to set that I thought that was really interesting Darby to do that and from the trailer you know we hear that the girl had I'm from Mississippi the final script is changed she comes from Louisiana and she is a a Cajun and so she has a very thick cajun accent which I thought was pretty awesome yeah sounds like my not Shays influence definitely yeah and he obviously says that he was the dialect Oh jerry so he helped with that for sure it because it's a very interesting region of the country as well like that there are very very many dialects of of waves of speaking down there yeah I text jd idea what's what this girl's voice alley in the world is going on he's like you cultured are you know he didn't say that but he's like a way they speed down they're like Oh wow okay I've been living in a cave somewhere I've been down there once in my life so I don't know like super intimately but I did have a family that lived in the region for for a while so a bit familiar with it but here's the interesting thing now that you hear these little snippets and tidbits of this huge backstory that Jake has right but we don't know anything about it right right and I love that Darby has thought this all out and he's got this entire story that makes jake who he is ugly and it still all these past events are still affecting him and we're just gonNA dropped into this one scene he's got this history with Arianna he's got this history with Sharon lane that we don't know anything about and then we find out little bits and pieces but he never does give us the whole story right right we know he is loaded with money we find that out which is really cool which it just opens up the possibility our stories like Oh yeah if you have untapped resources like where could you take this character the possibilities are endless right yeah exactly there's at one scene with the FBI agent that I thought was hilarious when they're talking about all these UFO easiest and like these people that are all into aliens and studying this stuff and he called him cellar dwellers yeah I thought that was pretty funny myself and then another another scene is when Jake is talking with pizza the next day after they find this girl he's at home home and they're eating breakfast and whatever and pizzas something about his mom had told him something about Jake and he's like you guys talk about me when I'm not yet just like straight up I'm like yeah pretty much yeah basically anything well what else did she say yeah and he's like well what do you WanNa know Jake good yeah one of the things that stood out to me from the very beginning is how much dugan sounds like Townsend call my word I thought the like I couldn't get over it I was like this is crazy yeah well I guess if you can't have townsend no it's really good nobody like perfectly Jack Moore is is so that means not a direct parallel but they're very similar characters JC editor right actually very similar yeah it's like if we took Jason the whole story by his life yeah yeah might not be such a bad idea by the way Paul Darby is doing it in a way I could get behind a whole series uh of stories about Jason that'd be awesome no kidding I think Jake Muller is probably a little more exciting than Jason actually go on a limb here and say that Ah yeah in some ways yeah he's a private citizen like he's not tied to any agency so Jason had restrictions that were had to work within that's true okay so there's this one clip that I wanted to play because it just shows that example of how Darby kind of drift out the back story of of Jake without dislike throwing it all at U but he he works at into the dialogue really creative ways but it's never huge sections so you're like all right here we go more backstory exactly it's like he works at in so naturally but then he always goes right back into the action exactly and so this is a scene where Jake is talking with the doctor in the hospital after dropping off this girl that he found out in the wilderness hand in this is just an example of what I'm talking about here it's just really great how does it hey can I ask you something you are the Jake Muller that owns Noble Security Right you wrote that book about Rescuing Ambassador Blevins Wow thanks for your service wasn't in the army by the time it was working as a private citizen well I know what you went through blevins is my second cousin no kidding small world and and I knew Sharon Lane to look right now I just want to do something to help this girl here sure yeah I get it so can I see her let's let her rest for now like I said it's still early he's not a room what.

involved in the you know it's going to be good right exactly absolutely names in the industry we are here today to talk about Jake Muller so Oh yes I think let's jump into that Jake Muller Adventures almost an hour and forty minutes Jake Muller has been all over the world and seen plenty of strange things but everything he believes his challenge when he finds a girl standing on a frozen lake and Upper Michigan dressed in jeans and a t-shirt with no footprints leading to her not even her own but getting the girl to the hospital doesn't mean she's out of danger government aid agencies and mysterious men in black are closing in and Jake Muller is beginning to take it personally and he's got a few tricks of his own ready to go with a little spookier sounding music perfect perfect so as I said this was written by Darby Kern also directed by Derby turn engineered by Nixon Todd Bastide at the gap digital studios in Illinois Sound Design Foley and Dialect Coaching by Mike Touche you are also familiar with around here he's played some voices on the witnesses audio series as well as the Brinkman Adventures and he's also a member of the Audio Drama Alliance so we're quite familiar with Mica and he's an ATC listener he has given us feedback over the years the music composed by jared deep squall again more familiar names these are people that have been around the space for a long time time collaborating together to make this brand new thing exactly Mike also did all the post production on the Jake Muller Adventures and from the moment I heard about this was excited because Darby had explained that this was not geared at a younger dammit graphic right yes older you know high school college or Adult Ages so finally yes I was really excited because we you know we've talked about that before that most audio drama that is family friendly or at least you know it's not got a bunch of garbage in it right is aimed at kids and so this was one of the first times I mean the left behind series is not aimed at kids but that's the only one that I can really think of off the top of my head besides BBC stuff Roy at is aimed at adults and has the story line that's not dumbed down for kids or it's not you know I don't know it just I was just excited about it yeah. Jd told me with this actions to this the very first time I listened to this so there you go join backstage absolutely but I wanted to play this trailer now just a little heads up on this for those who have already heard the show now we're GONNA try not to give away any major spoilers as we usually do on the kinda reviews but I did want to mention that this was a trailer that was cut in the early days of production and so some of the things have actually changed in the fire version so in case of an actor has changed and then another the name of a character has changed but this will still the scenes are very similar and this will still give you a good idea of how the show sounds so without further ado here is jake more adventures teaser trailer for unidentified so what's on your mind Jake Pastor do you believe in extra Terrestrial Life Aliens Nope you don't WanNa think about it before you answer can.

"For two parties on the club, much less. Drool wait for three months before he listens to. Yeah. I know I try, but I can't well that's the thing is I can't either because everybody else in my life, the students in the classroom, and the my wife, but they're just like, no, let's just doing okay. Anyway, kudos to the CEO of green hotels. That's right. That's right. And then mica Touche says you guys mentioned that the worst place to begin the journey would be in the middle of GRC, funnily enough that is exactly where I started. Why heard I had heard a couple of episodes randomly over the years and knew vaguely who wit and a couple of the main characters were, but when I decided to begin listening. Religiously I was on a road trip and someone loaded the entire for disc GRC into a six disc CD player, they thought they had started on disc one. But somehow the last discs aren't it which was episode to dwell quote, come on buck. It's getting late quote, unquote. That's where the journey began for me. That's pretty funny. Hopefully, they corrected their error. I I mean, it's not the ideal place to start. But if it gets you into odyssey anyplace, we'll do right. That's right. Exactly. As long as you can go back and listen to it the way it was meant to be listened to and apparently will exactly word. So he's still a fan and co producer of Jake Muller adventures, by the way, well, just a quick reminder. If you listen to last episode, we had interview with the Boyd Barrett, the producer of common. See and just wanted to quickly remind you that if you do go over to their website in order or preorder the entire series of come and see us the code ATC, and they'll send us a portion of your purchase. And so we would really appreciate if you did that Boyd has already sent me an Email saying that there's a a few of the listeners have already done that. So I wanna say thank you to those of you who have done that. And encouraged the rest of you. If you haven't done it yet. We would really appreciate it. And you won't regret it. I'm sure I mean, it's really well done production. And also a quick mission. One of our listeners Dominic has launched his own audio dramas. And so I thought this is cool won't we'll share it.

Well, joining us on the show now is the creator of come and see and immersive audio experience. We've talked about this on the show before and it is a biblical story focusing on the life of Jesus, and it really puts you right in the story because you the listener are basically a character in the story. And so we wanted to talk with Boyd he's the writer and producer of the series as well. And he's done a lot of acting himself on stage and on audio. And so it was just really a good time to talk with him about this new series. Well, first of all, I just wanna say thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us and be a guest on the show today. Boy, absolutely looking forward to it. All right. Well, you know, this this project that you've been working on it's kind of breaking the mold in several different ways. In terms of the way. Most audio drama is created these days, and we're gonna chat about some of the the scripting things in the audio. Elections and those kind of things, but but I just want to know what it was the inspiration or the impetus for making this show. Why why focus on the life of Jesus. Oh, wow. Well, the I've been I've been telling in some shape former fashion the story of Jesus for ever since I was a teenager which would make it about five decades. His and I've been doing it all kinds of ways I've done, you know, from pulpits from stages all kinds of things I traveled with a Christian drama group, and we did all kinds of venues. And then I've done film of done audio drama. I started start doing an audio drama called Roswell BC about Bill three years ago. Maybe now. Yeah. And I just love to tell stories so I've I've been able to combine those two loves I love to tell stories, and I absolutely love the person in the life of Jesus. So that. Was the reason why I wanted to be able to tell it in a new fresh way and with with audio drama these days and with the ability to do sort of three d surround sound kind of of setting. I thought why not drop a listener really into the scenes. So that you feel like you're part of it. You feel like you're actually one of the

"Significant new insights today into Robert Muller's playbook as we're learning. New details about the essential case against Trump's former campaign chairman and alleged efforts by Trump associates try to get information from Russian hackers bis while President Trump is going on defense with an offensive accusing Muller of nasty things and lashing out against his own Justice department, plus Vladimir Putin testing, President Trump just days before they meet again will manners be different with an international prices unfolding an actual lives at stake. Welcome to the lead on dick tapper. We begin with the politics lead. President Trump in the White House going to war with special counsel Robert Muller over the Russia investigation, the president lashing out today on Twitter against Muller, a widely respected former FBI director and a Republican and lashing out against his team as well. As Muller seems to becoming close to issuing his final report Rudy Giuliani telling CNN today, the President Trump Trump has been quote upset for weeks over the prosecutorial methods used on his former campaign, chairman of fort to get him to share everything he knows and which Yuliana described as a quote perverse over zealous desire to get the president Muller's latest move against Manafort court filings, alleging that the former lobbyist violated his plea agreement by lying to the FBI and the special counsel team after he started cooperating with them suggesting that Manafort has shared extensive information with prosecutors in the process. Theaters have been able to verify and potentially refute at least some of the information Muller. I mean manafort's told them in other words, in theory Muller knows things the Manafort didn't know, he knew CNN's. Jessica Schneider joins me on. Jessica Muller's team is tight lipped about what exactly manafort's lies were about at least so far. Yeah. Jake Muller's team being purposely vague only disclosing that there were several lies about various subjects. But prosecutors there'll be a lot more detailed when they submit their sentencing memo to the judge, and that's when we could learn the details of what Muller's team asked Manafort and get an even better sense of what the special counsel knows. Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort facing a full prison sentence now that special counsel Robert Muller's team has called off all cooperation accusing him of lying during plea talks after pleading guilty and September Manafort met several times with a special counsel team seeming to live up to his star witness spot in the Russia probe but on Monday night, Muller's team told the court the plea deal was off saying Manafort lied multiple times about various subjects. Three ching. His deal manafort's lawyer shot back saying Manafort.
