"Cheeseburger fries guy. Every day of my life. No not enough so i just kept getting heavier and heavier and i'm i'll be norm for sure. I'm not smart enough to be a cliff. I don't have the details. And then as i've leaned into that show i'm like it's probably woody. What do people say when they come up to you on the street to get nick miller questions from new girl. So i've got a funny story about win at all. Actually i was in iceland. Doing a short with jason schwartzman jason. I took like a day where i don't know how to describe it. Besides like we had a date you know like he. And i walked around iceland together and went like shopping then got food and sounds romantic. That was like well. This is lovely jason. You are just saying a delight place and be like. I got us ice cream cones and i'd be like perfect but he walked into some shop and i didn't want to go in so i was standing on some side street and i saw some appear to be like late. Eighty s punk rock punk rock guy. Who looked like he should be in the movie. Warriors leather jackets spiked so over the top. That it got scared you know when somebody's so commits to a style that you're like now i am scared to you. Well done so. He's walking towards pantheon tents and he stops and he goes in broken english. Your that guy from that netflix gambling. Movie and i go. Yeah and he goes. I love that. Movie i go. Thanks man he goes. I like gambling. That one was my movie now would have been better if he said something about new girl who would have been more so here. Is the new girl one. I was in hawaii and three hawaiian guys on the back of a pickup truck drove by me with no shirts and i thought like those dudes are cool. I'm like no doubt about it. Those dudes local in one of them does that that like. Who's that girl who's there. It is man close to the theme song. But i know what you're doing. And then they all chuckled and drove off. I'm like all right. They they watch new girl. Apparently but you kind of long run. Their hollywood can help you with success but doesn't help you with failure. How did the lows help you with the highs or the or vice versa. The lows helped me. Because i didn't start making money as an actor and tells twenty eight years old so i had already failed in the eyes of my loved ones. So i'm kind of on house money when you're twenty eight years old and you move to la after going to a really bad break-up from like the parents point of view things didn't turn out crates. So when i started doing commercials for years and guest stars and then when i finally started getting on television i had a really nice run and when the pandemic hit the truth is if that was it i don't have that high of a ceiling. Compare business a lot to sports. I don't necessarily want a big picture. Me outside of the stadium to help advertise sales for seats. I just wanna be on a major league team for another twenty years. It's really fun to play this game. I feel like i'm at a really nice place where jobs are coming in. And i'm happy to take them if i never have another thing that hits as big as new girl. What a great wave. That was the day that i no longer get offered parts and the things i do. Nobody buys them well. I hope i can stretch this out for another like ten years. I enjoy doing this. And so that was the inspiration for ride the eagle so about ride the eagle your new film. If you're gonna have thirty seconds to describe it what would you say. I would describe it as the story of people coming back together. After being isolated for a very long time my friend trento donald we did seventy episodes of new girl together and in the midst of the pandemic when i thought my business had totally dried up and i was on a show that got canceled for. Covert reasons trenton. I talked and said why. Don't we just write checks and make a movie that we wanna make a nice pace that we like a tone we like about how badly we miss other people and how. It's time to forgive just to get together and have some laughs again so that was the idea that was longer than thirty seconds. How important is it not only what you right but where you're writing very important so for this movie it's reverse engineered a lot of times writer. Start and they say. I want to write a movie about anything. Space travel and let the producers. Find it out well on this. We knew we had limited budget and time so we knew the locations and we wrote around that so we knew we had access to the the cabins. We knew it access to the place where my character lives to start so every scene in everything was built around where we could be and when and how we could work with other actors because we could not spend time with too many people in one space because a cova. This was long before vaccines so everything was about. How do we get a story between a mother and a son if a mother and son can't be together so then we created the vhs tapes and talk in. You know everything about it that way. Highly look at me talking to you. Even though i'm pat. I'm still here spiritually right. I got you do you personally reach out to susan serandon. Now it was done through agents Shani resume read the script at uta. Sent it to sue them. We found out when she was interested. We said you know we'll do anything. Susan wants or needs to get her to do this so we had a lot of meetings with her and talent kinda shows why they're talented. A certain point ed for susan. Apart from just performance the question she asks and the discussions we had about her character. We're just the right questions. The movies about a mother who abandoned her son but does it. Because she's an occult and she believes in the messaging of the cult. The sun does not believe so he leaves so she wanted to know what that cult stood for. even though the cult isn't in the movie to make sure she could identify with the character. That's a really good question and a conversation to be having that a lot of actors. Don't do i acted in sandler. Movie with susan serandon so we do have something in common pretty cool. She had no idea who i was. She had no idea. I was dan remember. I think sandler said don't make contact with susan. Just let's not even try to have a conversation with her. The guys that on my show they were a film crew. And i was the tv reporter in prison and she just looking at like. How did these slapsticks in this movie. That itself on that is was sandler messing with you or is that real about the eye contact. If if sandman says something in a certain way then. I respect that. Yeah i go. Danny danny eight. They'll make it down to this. This is like she's not going to say. Hey you know what do you. What do you think of fernando taste junior. You know so you want to know what sandler protected her from is. Here's the example in how you are similar and why he knew you and stopped so i did a scene in new girl with prince so prince came on did an episode of new girl so there was a scene where it was me.

"That i'm gonna murder you. How do you separate yourself when you're writing for yourself. I prefer it. Because the first thing i always care about is the structure and the story and making the the whole thing works so the main thing that i'm trying to do is track the whole story so you're building it that way. Once i know. I have a structure that works then. I'm putting myself in those scenes. And i'm trying to think like are there any laughs here. Is there any tenderness here. Is there a love story here. I think it'd be harder. Founds just writing a character named mike gerald forty brown hair heavyset. And just doing my tone. I don't know how to do it. But you get to voice spiderman you get a call for your rasic world. What was more important to you. Voice of spiderman or jurassic world. I mean if i'm being honest they're all the same later. You look into these parts the way they are chips on a poker table actually probably any job. I get it going back to poker. It is just more chips. I get to keep playing as long as i get to do. Good work. i'm still playing so spiderman was great but the reason i like spiderman is peter. Parker was written beautifully. The scenes that i performed in that that writing was phenomenal. My name is peter parker. I was bitten by a radioactive spider for the last twenty two years. I thought i was the one and only spider-man you see i saved. The city fell in love. I got married saved the city. Some more eighty too much. My marriage got testy. Made some dicey money choices. Don't invest in a spider themed restaurant then like fifteen years pass blah blah blah. Super barn broke my back. A drone flew into my face. Very may my wife. And i split up but i have like a champion phil. Lord who rewrote spider versa. Lot we had great staff that there'd be days out up to record and he would hand me something that he had just printed out from his computer and he would always preface. It like sorry. Just try this. It's not great. It'd be like a typo in it. And i'm not kidding i. Would you know around like others. I don't like to overly show emotion. I'm from my just different part of the country in a different era where my age group not as open. But i would at times. Have like that like lumps. Feeling like there's like an. Mj seen that would be really sad and not have to go. I really well written nice where you guys are very talented. Let's let's record and for me. That's the stuff that really excites me. I loved the writing to peter parker. That's why i want to do another one. I just want to say those words man because the words were good. What are you gonna do with your life after that well. I hope it doesn't happen for a while. Because i like ryan okay okay. I got poker chips still dan. I'm doing okay. I got a few fifteen nines. I gotta tell you when you turn it saturday night live. Was there any part of you. That wanted to audition for saturday night low. I really as a kid really wanted to be on saturday night live and then when i got there i realized how much of a business it was and i realized how naive i was so i was twenty years old. I was in a sketch. Comedy troupe. in new york we performed everywhere. We would read like the old porn theaters in times square and charge a dollar for people to come. We were all these old like theaters in the lower east side. And i believed you did that. And then all of a sudden you were will ferrell that like your performed for eight hundred a sold out place doing stuff with your childhood. Best friends and then like the king of hollywood. Has you like a bucket of a goal. To and i wouldn't get headshots because you don't need him. Didn't i didn't have much interest in an agent because like i don't think you need it. I realized very quickly. When i was at snl that these were professionals and there was a hierarchy to the industry that i needed to learn and so it made me take a major step back and figure out like oh i probably need to go to l. a. I need to get an agent and start this thing. Did you see yourself in any of those people on saturday night live. No you know who. I saw myself as comedic. Who really i looked up to was Mister show did you ever watch that old sketch show with bob. And dave. You know when. I saw mr show. I was right out of high school and that was the first thing i saw where i thought this is really what i would like to do. Though when i saw bob. And dave doing that show and i saw how good is like actors. They were and they would do a skit. But they would like fully commit and like david cross's character work and that was like so funny. And so three dimensional. And bob who's now like revealed himself to be like one of the best act like you sense that and their skits weren't just little blackout skits like weird endings. They were whole stories. And so i wanted to do that really badly. You brought up something when you were twenty eight twenty nine and maybe you were not going anywhere but did you ever feel that guilt. If mom and dad are disappointed in you or you let them down the ceiling for me from my parents point of view i think was pretty low like my brother with like the smart kid in my family. The stores were. How like you know your other your older brother. Dan was reading the newspaper at three. You know my sister was like the creative one who was drawn in like every story even to this day when now my kids are hearing stories but had an older brother sister. And you're the baby monkey. What happened why. Why aren't you like the others. All that's left is like the one who's got like like muster insurance. And so i think the fact that like i'm not living with them such a happy thing for that. Is there a big picture goal for you that you say i wanna do that. You know what it's more abstract. When it started. I grew up. Watching cheers cheers for me was the perfect show and i watched every episode of it multiple times. I wanted to go to the bar. Cheers and i wanted to be in cheers so as an actor. I wanted to be a show. I wanted to be in a tv show. That felt real enough for people. So that i could experience what it was like to be in cheers and at this point what i really wanna do is. It's a little selfish but there are certain jobs. I'll have where the actors are really good in the writings. Really good in. Everybody cares and it feels really good doing it. So there's a a story. I heard growing up. It was a improv teacher. Did a thing about like everybody believing in the process and they were doing a scene in a kitchen they did a whole scene like a forty five minute seen a couple in a kitchen and then they asked the audience who were all students in that. Make believe kitchen with no set. It's two people in two chairs of the fake kitchen wall that they never talked about. What color was the paint. Eighty percent of the people all said like light yellow or whatever. The color was because those two actress had done. Make believe so great that the people all had a collective unconscious and they all saw the same walls together. And that idea. I think is so cool and so all i really want to do in the future is get more of that. Where when we go to work with a group of people who wanna do it for the right reasons. We're all fully committing. Nobody cares about celebrity. Or how many followers they get or if the angle of their face looks good in this shot but we're all just there to try to do this thing that we all do professionally and if we can hit it and i can be part of those for a few years. That would make me very happy. When i finally get knocked off this ride would character. Would you have been in cheers. Probably an even dumber. Woody body wise growing up. I thought it was going towards orm..

"The with mario lopez wwl mario lopez joining me now on soon from the new movie. Ride the eagle actor jake johnson. Welcome back man. I've been nice seeing you to beards looking strong. Gotcha out too. Well you got a lot going on right now but let's start with new film. Ride the eagle. I'm assuming a comedy what's it about. Yeah it's a. It's a drama. It's it's a movie about a guy who's passes away and lee per cabin to him but there's a conditional inheritance so he's got to do all the things on her list in order to get the cabin because they haven't really seen each other in about twenty years. I love conditional inheritances. I plan on doing that with my kids cigarette. True yeah i do. I got a whole laundry list for them. Yeah that's one of them right there. What's your list mar. Well they've got to have a certain accomplishment scholastically. They've got to have something along the lines of employment down the line no tattoos. I've got no toon tunes on big on no tattoos very catholic over here. So you co wrote. This is well. Did you inspired by this happened to you. Know house inspired by the pandemic and the feeling of missing everybody. You know when the pandemic kit this was long obviously before the vaccines. But i didn't know how business was gonna come back and buy our business. I mean like the acting game onset like you know everything was go into the world of zun like this and more short form. That doesn't have a lot of interest for me in terms of filmmaking. So trent o'donnell who we'd worked together for new girl. He was producing director. He and i got together and decided. We wanted to make a small indie movie. That we self-financed That we could put together. We could do ourselves. And we could control the cogut protocols and all that and we didn't want to go through all the hoops that we just made our movie. The idea that was we miss everybody. We wanna see everybody. So what's the best way to tell that story without making it about kobe. Right exactly i agree. Trente great guy too by the way how they work with them really really cool. Fun cast to susan serandon j. k. Simmons is he's still jacked. I didn't ask them to take his shirt off. You didn't take advantage with a top being there. And mr simons okay. There's also a netflix series. Coming soon lost. Ali with jared j. blige and my other home gina. Rodriguez is is this kid series family friendly. This was a four episode kinda mini series thing. And i think there is the element of it's going to be for kids but the part of the show that i was in like a pretty sad little drama abon genus character. Who passes away. And she and i play husband and wife and it's about the little kid learning to you. Know move on with his life but it's directed by the guy peter ramsey who did spider verse. The are gray. Oh cool so yeah. It was really fun one to make we. We did that. And then i'm starting my series and fall. I gotta show called. Minks banks that takes place in the early seventies written by women in ellen rappaport at. I think it's going to be a killer show. All i love period pieces especially the c two. That's harry man so much. Is that a drama. Comedy's romney so that's going to in between it's going to be funny but there's got a lot of story to hbo. Max and the pilot was honestly one of the best things i'd read years And so yeah. I'm just getting the scripts now for the series. And it's just a lotta fun. It's about a young writer who wants to have a magazine published. She's a young feminist and no one will publish her magazine except for my character. Gun him doug eddie. And i'm a smut publisher so i'm interested in her words but we gotta sell a little bit of heat along with. Yeah so it's about that combination between her feeling like she's selling out it'd be trying to make something successful that's great man good for you or your really super jurassic world dominion also in the works any any kind of a sneak peek. She can give us into that or on a big dinosaurs. Do we see new dinosaurs. All new his there. We never okay. Good okay good so something other than like a velociraptor. A t. rex attacking us. That'd be. I'm looking forward to that nice. And what about new girl. I know it's got new life on streaming. Could that posse open a door to reunion or a sequel. Some sort you know. I think sequel would be interesting. I'd be curious to see what lives mary. Whether came up with a think. If a sequel in the works. I think we would all gladly do it. Okay i see what you know. Liz is the writer. She's the she's the creative behind the whole thing. So it have to start with the words. But if she figured out something to do with nick schmidt winston and i think we'd all happily do it and you've got a couple dollars right. Do bless you held. They're going to be eight soon so we are out of the baby stage of the good life. Yeah no. I've got a few ride in that wheelhouse as well. It's fun. what are the into gymnastics are kind of the big thing right now. Okay my daughter took. This is actually the first year where they like. Go into camp. So as a gymnastics camper just a regular camp just like a regular camp they. They've been really homebody kids. And then the pandemic. It's kids who like being home with the group. Yeah so this is the first time where i'm able to do this from home. And there's not like kids in the background and being like watch watch. I check that right right right now. Everybody's fine man. Everyone's out of the house doing good. So i'm seeing the future. And i like it. Yeah exactly well. Congratulations on everything jake. And meanwhile please go watch ride. The eagle is in theaters now and on demand jake. Thanks for checking in your take on with mario lopez..

"They should be famous and being a celebrity and being an actor three different things. They used to be one thing. If you were a famous actor it was like a celebrity. It was all one thing. Well now you. I think people need to figure out what they want to do. Be you can be an actor not be that famous but you can actually be a great working actor. You have a nice home in a savings account and be gentle actors or you could be uber famous but not do anything. You could be famous for nothing. Or it'd be a celebrity literally like celebrity reality shows. So i i think there's been a big change and at you see it kind of shaken out a little bit of through time of what people want to do and what. I've gotten very clear on in where i'm at is. I just want to be with actors so when you do like ride. The eagle is full of actors. Cut financed it me. I mean trento. Donald myself in jail. Hardest student producers took our check books out in pay people. We paid for the actors. There was never a discussion of somebody social media presence. What they would bring to us to sell. There was never a this person's not a great actor. Nobody respects them but they have such a present and you know what they do all the talk shows in. They're really good at press and they're going to bring a lot of heat to this because there are a star and for me. That's what dilutes project and you go. Well what are we making because how you really actually care. And the distributor makes their money back. You want them to make another. Yeah but what you know. That's their thing. We're trying to make the product and so back to this thing with reid eagle. We just made a movie with actors and writers on every member of the crew our producer. This guy pete williams who was a producer in the middle of it. He admitted he really wants to learn more about camera operation. So we shots except where. I'm in the boat on the kaya. And he operated camera see because he said like we have the cowardice. Anybody mind and i remember being in the boat. This is what it's about. Yeah he to operate because he wants to make something. It's not further credit. I'm a camera. He just operate a cameron beautiful shot and then when he got it beautiful shot he made us all. Look at it and buy yes he. That's beautiful that'll be in the movies like right and we're like yes. You did something beautiful great. That's the wide shot. Well done. that's what. I'm like the these movies for me. In the reason we do that we pay for them is. This is what. I always want to make sure every few years one of these and i know i'm not the only one doing it but i always like hearing like zoe lister. Jones is always doing this. So i liked the. She's out there making horse unlike. Just keep doing it yet. Making the little ones the way. Joe swan berg..

"Everybody has their little team that they pull in collins little team and then i got a call from a then manager who said your friend. Communism movie called safety not guaranteed they like you and they like aubrey plaza for it and i didn't know her and it was the same thing i said before you know sight unseen if collin them in and so we just started meeting and then we were all together and we found a Came on board but he was last and but that movie was very clearly. We're going to make a movie. This is the first movie with our friend colin or my friends and you know watching that thing exploded for him. Was you know neat well but you did find yourself working. Ns exotic location or two or three with tom cruise in the tunnel. I talk about saying yes if someone calls me on the phone and says tom cruise from what missiles just being on so kind of so. You'd i'm an tom cruise fan I'm also afraid of them again in a real like actor and so i got the call. Tom wants an outskirts men. Who was directing. It was the one contacted me. And he's like you know i'd like to. I'd like improvise in blues. I think we could add a lot of comedy and have a lot of fun. I thought like not sounds like tom. Cruise like that sounds cool but as like all right and then i thought all right so i'm day comedic relief sky something that's easy and then like all right and then so he just kinda casually like would you do it and i said to my wife. I pitched it to her. Because we our kids to at the time. So i said but we all have to go to england for four months over summer. And she's like tom cruise. Yes so. I think i'm in and i read the script. And the first twenty five pages where his character and my character in a war zone have in buildings exploding. And i'm like this twenty pages of tom cruise stunts. And i don't wanna do tom cruise stunts so i contacted and said i think i'm out like i appreciate it but i'm not interested in like stunts i'd like i got interested in green screen movies. I don't get him like i don't need to be. I never need to be hung from a wire house. Like let somebody else do to the world of blackbox. I like those those feeders And then Tom cruise got word that i was passing and said yeah he wants to pass. You could pass have them do it to my face so i left..

"And then you know eventually came out to la started doing commercials which led to bits and things which led to meeting. Liz meriwether liz. Meriwether was the one who put me in no strings attached and then new girl if if you were to chart which i was just doing mentally of before we got online together. Yeah if we were to chart the connection points. Yeah for sure all the things you've done on and you've done quite a lot. Everything has connect point. That leaks leapfrogged over to something else does. And you've been exceptionally fortunate in choosing your partners choosing to hang out with well. I'm a big believer in its people. I when you're talking earlier about the fear recordings. I don't want to sell anything but you're talking about a movie. That had a crazy premise. And our how is that pitched in. How do people say yes. My real way of doing it from the beginning is i. Don't care about the pitch of the product. I care of the pitch of the people. If a if a director who i really respect says i have a project that i like you for it i'll just say amid because whatever that is our holiday cmih it. I want to be in that saying if there is a great actor Those you know. I want to attach your with me on this director is i'm like it doesn't matter because you and i can find it from within but i cannot do it alone and when i've tried and i've just auditioned book job and i'm the only person they're quote unquote on my team. If you then give a notre thought that you're not doing it to be disruptive you're trying to help it you're viewed as problematic because your alone and you'd as bossy viewed as this ship is gonna direction. Why don't you want to sail with us. You think you're selling into a brick fucking wall. You have a team with you. You're you're actually is trying to help the thing right. I'm not the kind of actor i don't. i didn't start getting paid to act until my late twenties. So i'm not an actor. Who walks into an audition and everybody gets excited about it. I never have been a never been a top pick at never been the one where they go like. How about that guy But what happens is when i work with people a lot of those people. Wanna bring me back. So i'm more of a. I find tunes in little tribes and try to work with that tribe as much as they can so like. Liz meriwether who saw me saw me through a guy named max winkler max. Winkler saw me. He got really pissed at her and they were both raw. He should have forgiven her when he got older. She reached out goes into an important thing for us to put in that. She may be after he never did it as an adult. They're both in the wrong like now. It's too late gun. Don't screw it up again. Don't don't screw up with women and do the same pattern like star finding people and and how how sad that you had to make do under these conditions with susan sarandon and role for four poor thing or you know we were really scraping the bottom of the barrel or jk drc carded. You know we had no but it was funny and trenton. I did discuss this where we realized we could probably get top actors because you know. Drc came on board started working with us early on. We had pages for those scenes where you're doing zoom hertzel's and you know. I really wanted to work more with her. But i thought actually won't be available. Then she mountain she's like i'm home all the time right. We saw many hertzel's oh like she's already. I was texting with like. She's off doing her tv show. Now she's in pittsburgh she's gone. Students gone jake as got like every acts in like twenty minutes later. They'd be like you wanna just meet now. And i'm like this is incredible availabilities not gonna get. It's the i mean this is. "He watches sports exactly like me. But the thing that I wanted at ten my instinct was right. He is the perfect guy to watch sports with. Wow really funny. He's really into superstition so you'd say like Hey Hey buddy. Hey, buddy. You gotta get your left foot off the ground because. When the inning started, he left foot was up in K. which struck on two guys. You put your left foot down and the fucking marlins double talk. And You know when you can get into that and believe it was somebody you are now part of their success. So we would be like you know what? Yesterday we were eating ice cream bars in the third inning and he'll go. I ordered sixty of them. Every third eighty we got ice cream black. and. A black here. Yeah and then when I had kids I had daughters. Sports is just not really a thing in my house slow. So like the Games are on and everybody knows it like Daddy likes the bears. They'll come in and below. And then after two minutes the boredom on their face. So God. If you don't like if you're not into the game I imagine how boring football must be and they they'll try like a my wife. Got Him. Jerseys. And they'll come in and they'll be like. Tackle tackle. When ends up happening is I'm sitting in a dark room by myself watching a game that's weird and I hear my kids in the other room. And I just found myself going to them more in the less you watch and the less you read you. If you miss one half a season total. Yeah. Now there's new player, right? Yeah. So all of a sudden I just don't know the people and if you don't know the story, I would never in terms of being a baseball fan. I would never go to a park and watch strangers play the game of baseball right? Well, especially now, Jake, the way the teams are structured is they're constantly moving around in free agency when we were kids, it was like it was. Single People yeah. Yeah really solve. A career totally, and then you see like, and then I got to know some athletes like I met Martellus Bennett the bears tight end. And we went out to eat one day we came buds and. He was talking to me what it's like to be a player in how? Little you value the franchise. Oh, I'm sure I'm sure because. As he was saying it, I'm like Yep totally. Yeah. When you look at it that way through that Lens, you step back for saying you're like, this is ridiculous. I'm sure they're all playing the same game they just have different they're being paid by a different company, but if the bears were owned by. Yeah. If by Winnie vow. Thread to low income neighborhood schools, fries right and I knew like Craig the south side in the west side that doesn't have the highest tax property via they get the money if the bears get to the playoffs. Yeah. That's really cool. I really want the city, of Chicago, to beat the city of Sacramento. Back to Sacramento but Sacramento's fine yeah. But that's not the case it's the mccaskey family. An a mccaskey family is family from the north suburbs that have a ton of money right? That's why you start investigating when you get older who owns this team and and the kraft family, and what did they do and you get into the politics of the ownership and the, and then you try to stay away from that to enjoy the game. Right. I say, get rid of the salary cap. I want the players to make so much money, and if you play the sport and destroy your body, your grandkids Ehrich, right? Yeah. It should as should really a backup offense alignment is making four hundred grand a year. Yeah. That's a lot of money. But fifty percent is taxed. They do have agents as well as they have to pay for their own nutritionist and they're on acupuncture. Massage therapist. So now you're talking about one hundred, fifty, thousand dollars for three years to last multiple life's well, that's what I thought was really interesting among many things about the last dance about. Scotty. PIPPIN taking the deal. Also the the fact that they would immediately vilifies somebody dissect like horace grant the they left the team you know L. embrace somebody like Dennis Rodman, whom they adjust hated it. It's tricky. Yeah, and it's it's it's alienated me away from sports in that I still like sports. Yeah and I'm still excited for either the game but I had become the kind of fan that I you say I'm thinking of the occasions when I'm in a city when I'm not with my brother a friend and I'm sitting there I know what that feels like to watch football by yourself and you start thinking I don't care that much. It's fun to watch. I don't know if I need to spend three hours on a Sunday morning. Yeah. Yes. What will happen is my wife logo like. Yeah. You don't thinking of doing. We're going to like these bla-bla-bla guards today and then we're going to go get pizza and we might go do this thing. That's kind of fun with some friends Zimbabwe I go that sounds Nice I trade that any. The bears are playing the Jaguars Tan. So can I start meet up with guys at one thirty? A., and then the catch is if you watch the game and it's really boring bears lose a kind of bad. So. It starts getting really weird. What happened well, the fucking organization. And then you have to unpack it through the lens of your kids which is yes why is daddy in a bad mood because these other grown men lost a game to another set of other grown men who are fifteen years younger than wrong right right and the other thing is an organization that you cheer for like for example, the bears well, I really wanted to Shawn Watson as. My got passed over him yet. Now, Patrick Mahomes I didn't I don't watch college football, but I'd like to Shawn Watson Story I was like I think it'd be good for the city of Chicago we've never had like our quarterback Matt to Shawn Watson they're caught him the his coach from the Michael Jordan of college football yeah in house. Isn't credible also as a kind of. A cool tattered up qb. I was sure we were gonNA take the Shawn Watts when we hear Mitch trubisky North Carolina. and. I. See this guy who is a There and I go lynn notice respect to this human life which I hope he will be a great life. Yeah. But I googled him in the time the controversy was in college on twitter he had tweeted. I think the direct quote was I liked to kiss kitties. Ah. I. Didn't know that. Kissing twitty titties. Rules are sometimes both which one's better put some that was so like just a twenty euro shouldn't that go without saying I mean they just keep it inside and we all kissing yeah. but there was a moment where I saw this controversy. An another team got the guy I really thought we were GONNA. Get. I started trying to read and get excited about Mitch Trubisky but I thought like I. Don't agree with the business decision yeah. What I wanted. For me the problem is, is my dad is the opposite right and The way he talks about Sports League he did something that made me laugh. So hard we the bears me used to mean a ton lately it's stated for him, but they really meant the time in his life..

"Played the same game. Dream Sweetheart. Against Super. Team. But what are you what? What's your plan? Then what's the strategy on the podcast and is it just fun to be fun selfishly too because I. Get to catch up with. Kobe was maxed get talk to friends and like you said. I wouldn't I wouldn't make these plans to sit and total I. was you know it's great but We we want to do another movie. We had the script that we loved about, but it was about a cop who Like Zena phobic homophobic based on teamster that I knew once who was like. We doing now and I was like nothing because. You want to get a beer. I'll. I get it not not. You don't want to get a drink with a regular guy i. get it. And so that's my Kryptonite says I let's. Get. You sushi everything we can hash. We wasted I mean the whole thing. Crazy yeah and and by the end he was. He got really weirdly emotional and I want you know he wanted to be an actor and he is father doesn't love him I mean a lot of the ad all and the next day when he came to pick me up, it was like it was like we fucked it was like Hello. You know. I gotta say it's first of all very funny but yeah. I really leap stopped going out and getting drunk with ranch part of it is being recognized I. Just don't go to bars the way I used to it's not as fun. It's a different beast but what I I'm really not sad about it. Because what started happening once you hit like thirty five. When you go to get drunk with somebody your age and older. In their new. There's no good information that's learned right unless they're like old friends they give you and I were in the same place we were Austin. That bill, it would be a blast but still the third person who neither of US knew who worked on your movie. Like he's actually really nice. Nice to meet you. Chad we there would be a point of the jagged. Go you guys are cool. But can I tell you what I really think and at this point of my life I'm just saying like now I. Know You really think I. Don't want to hear because I hate you. I know I know. I. I saw this sounds really cynical in an elitist but I I don't remember the last time I went out with h add let's say and I was like the next day I was like Oh man I'm glad I did that that was fucking great speaking of an in terms of getting to this year a little bit something I've genuinely excited about is I feel like as a white guy of our generation. There was a language. White Guy is used to be able to joke and say. That more progressive people like myself at a certain era in the early two thousand started going like. Kinda gives me a stomach ache. I don't know what to say because I've always heard this type of joke. Yeah. One of the things I'm really excited about this era in it started with me too is now guys like us it is our responsibility to say to other guys like us. I. Don't think what you're saying is funny I. Think It's hate phone I. Don't WanNa be parted at. got. It made those random nights I go out so much better because somebody will say one little thing that will be not even offensive but near it and I get just say before the night gets weird aim I'm not your guy for those bits right? Right which I don't think they're funny I'm not GonNa vote on the road with you. I don't think you're being ironic by saying I. Don't think you're being clever. You're not lenny bruce she at your fucking mouth and if that guy thinks you're a dick so be I. Think I'm Dick. Anyhow. It's so true years ago I would have had to entertain I would have had to humor that guy Shitty bid or joke or whatever it is and I and in that sense I was complicit in it but now there's a nice freedom and being, but it'd be like not for me. Yeah. Yeah. Who you were a huge you are still huge cubs fan i. you know honest to God I become more of a fake sports fan in the last year Oh really I was I was so diehard my whole life sports used to mean and this sound makes me feel like psychotic looking back. But. I really believed that like the project three of certain players was also my. Win The bulls drafted Derrick rose I was you know really starting my career and I thought like? This is us. Support because I didn't grow up with a dad and it was not valued in my house at all. A I was in a very female run house meaning unlike Monday night football when we had one TV in our house. The beggars were playing. I wore the Jersey all day in my sister and my brother who didn't care about sports. We used to divide up the TV by show. So it'd be like my sister gets watch blossomed, for. Thirty minutes. Thirty minutes of a football game and like. This isn't how sports work in. What you think you get three hours. Yes. I always as a kid fantasized about my dad calling and saying like, why don't you watch the game at my house? While there was always this thing about sports that. Maybe he's going to me watch with him. And then when I was in Chicago doing that project joke thing and lived with him, it was during the two thousand three cubs season and we watched every game together while and everything that I wanted from my youth with. God Wow he was..

"Casino just wild and they're just different than other humans. who was somebody who worked with that while you're working with them you're like, you don't play the way other people play. You know who's like that I think is Amy Sedaris. Amy is she has she is wired in a way that is just different than anyone I've ever met and I love it. I fucking and I don't even know if she this is the best part about I. Don't know if she's aware of it right? I hate to use the word weird because it's like overused but but we are she's fucking. Best she's great. She's talent I mean, but I know what you mean about Tom Cruise I I think people think of think of him. He's done unhinged things are like wild things publicly obviously but but what they don't account for they don't pay enough respect to is how weird he's capable of being in as an actor, but also in such a great way like we were in. Namibia. And we were shooting in the desert and we were doing stunts and it was hard fucking work. Is In his mid fifties and I was really beat up and I was working out all the time we like jumping off buildings and I knew he must've been hurting. And you know we're an hour ten of a really hard day and we get word that the Namibian Film Council had come for a photo opportunity with Tom Cruise. He says, yes, we go older the film council were. From a local tribe, they did not speak English. The lead of its spoke a little English, but it was very traditional like they had like the traditional you know close on it was a really unique experience or in the middle of the African desert and when they see Tom, they're all very excited when we first meet them, it's very clear to me that English is not their first language you know. Tom Starts Little. Thank you speech about how beautiful Namibia's and how much we will respect the land, how we will clean up after ourselves how we will lead it better than we found it Justin Moore he then starts getting into the specific lenses. Heat wanted to use to highlight the beauty of Namibia. He talks for over thirty minutes get out of heat was one of the nicer displays. Oh my God. I'm not convinced any of them understood a word of what he was saying..

"Just. I. That my memories that were. Young for working with Zoe was fine I i. kind of did it because I was a fan of hers and and the Second I was on set with you guys I saw you were doing I was like Oh shit I wanna play with these guys. This is what I WANNA do so i. I remember doing a scene at the door with Zoe I go to pick her up on a date. It's a really like nothing's I'm just like Hey I'm here. To say Idol Amorn that. Was Winston I. Kept I. Thought it was so funny to call him the wrong name every time. Hey winstead or Wilson or. And correct me and I. And I was like, are you sure like thinking might be wrong funding but? Something about you though just that I had never seen and I'm curious if it came from the Vince Vaughn school or if it's just you going back to the Jerry Stiller in the boldness when I take a chance in like do an Improv and you know. The director in video clearly doesn't like it. Justin I always wilt away. I shut down low bit. You you did that take. Max. Greenfield myself from the Morn. I think we were scream laughing. Well, that's why I was encouraged. If you'RE GONNA, say how are you able to keep doing things like that? When the video video village clearly like okay we got that we got you calling him winstons. It is singular. So, just come and say, Hi guys. Those guys win since. Zoe trying to close the door more because you guys are in the background of that shot and I would I don't really want to expose you guys in the background just so i. I think they may be included maybe one or two lines about stuff but but yeah, the stuff that was resume for so many. There in. So many hard laughs on that show. Would you guys go through I remember Max telling me that. They would let you have the. The take where it's like, just blow the wheels off well hard some Max who obviously his so funny what he did there which I really appreciate. So when the show started. I had come from the indie world of indie films. And I thought when we were doing new girl with Jake Kasdan and Liz Mary weather in Zoe Dashiell I thought we were making freaks and Geeks. In I, thought we were doing the ultra hit Fox show that was going to get canceled but the Arkham in episode three I, think my character got cancer you. Yeah for you know I lean Shelton directed it was. You know these were all people had massive respect for, and I wanted to be in all their movies. Miguel Miguel Miguel. Yeah. So I. Me To do one. Score dose gray is really burden. He's the best. But I thought the tone of the show is going to be a different thing than Max Greenfield did. When the show started and he is in tight underpants. Ha, Burnett like performing. If there's a live studio audience he and I would have talks and. But not I mean, we were buddy on the start that we again liked each other. He would tell me you are not in indy sweetheart. Yeah a sweetheart you're not in a multi camp. And he was clearly winning and I was losing. With both do at take and then our show renders would come out and be like, but I'm all Max. Then they'll go. Really good. Jake really good out. Can we an NFC where we run outside by garbage can? That was clearly just struggling a little bit. I didn't know like it just running outside to throw something out. Why are we on take forty two? There's no line. And Max opening the garbage rock out I throw it out I. Leave Max runs out like his pants are on fire and everybody laughs. Let him have it. Let's just move on and mass goes I. Want He did do a take where you pretend there's a live studio audience watching you. allegheny goes. Let it be big baby. Let it be broad. So I literally, did it take for Max where I ran out rows? and. You know they called the cutoff show runners were laughing and I thought like Whoa Samak's. Really. Really helped me on that show I gotta say the Weird thing about this era and friends like you and me because I was thinking about like you know when I was going to do this. I'm thinking about you are thinking about Max and I was thinking about the the the era when we all met each other. Yeah I've never hung out with Max Greenfield, l'amour, and Morris outside of work. Now what not once? Your kid at once. The that's a huge surprise. Never hung out with Dan. Wins Junior outside now, mind you if we were shooting on location all go out to eat we all like each other. Oh. Yeah. The only time maximum I have ever gone eight maximum more than we are doing some photo shoot and we all went got a bite to eat and it was a mistake because. Another table people. Cast of new girl. With each other but the with it because I'll get every once in a while you'll say like, Oh, you guys really great friends and the truth is yes. I consider you a really good friend. But in business, we don't see each other I've got friends who I see on a regular basis and then I friends who I work with WHO I really like. But the only time we see each other is like this if maximum I wanted to we texts all the time but if he drives face on a Wednesday I would write like leave me alone. He said this is for a podcast. Nobody will watch out say Wednesday at ten thirty. I. I don't know why that is like this time. Yeah. Isn't that funny? It's like just like, yeah I wanted I wanNA talk to Justin. So I could schedule with my wife and the kids I gotta go in the Weird Room I'm going to be doing this thing well now that we're scheduled I'm excited if you said, hey, friend we haven't talked for a while is Wednesday good I'm going to say like whatever date is today Back off we're listening now. What do you want about unless you're certain? No, I'M NOT GONNA sit on my computer and You even though I really liked you. Well also you have these responsibilities that are. The most pressing was you have two kids a wife you're in quarantine. I imagine it'd be a hard sell to say to your wife. Hey. Honey I'm gonNA take an hour. Well, here's just just chat with. Here's the real truth. It wouldn't. It would be a simple cell. It's not like they say like in quarantine I'm with them all the time I could say, I'm GonNa go in they room for an hour. I just never think to do it. It seems so odd to me too but these podcast in these. Are such a or my favorite thing Dana Winds Junior. We connected. So strongly when we'd made, let's be cops that the bond between me and him is so weird we are so comedic Louis intimate via our tax. But we've never met each other's kids. Funny. My wife will know if I'm texting Damon because I literally be one like this while Tex I'll be like. Payment and What are your kids think of what if you ask them now, what do you think that he's doing in terms of texting of my career you just doing a podcast and get it. You know idea first weird one for my kids was because what I did that Tom Cruise movie we went to I brought my family with me because I'll right I. Don't do you know having kids is such a trip in terms of our careers because we had such a clear path you know what I was seventeen I realized I wanted to be an actor. Everything, you know even guys like you and me who played like slacker dudes if people knew how much we worked. Like Yeah. Are you like your character's? You mean like you know a guy who sits around like? that. I started grinding seventeen I'm like what I want to say to people ask me I've worked hard look at my nose in imagine it on TV. The amount of work I'm not the guy, the mall somebody, a talented I. They'll be like certain actors and they'll be like you know we saw you know Tom Hardy and we knew. Right. Nobody knew a jake's pointing to his nose nobody went like I saw that knows it was Benton four ways. Let's have discussed women. Sweetheart. De. Dude..

With is always is in the process of waking up I'm a stir. Stirring. Christian we're we're coming to learn that like you know we just didn't grow up with certain sensitivities that. That are important now yes. The way the native Americans were treated at the. Dawn of this country. Really disgusting and terrible. Read Bury my heart at wounded knee and you'll know. But at the time. Yeah. Just sensitive to it, and this was out that I was wearing that I totally forgot I was wearing. But it was a different time. It was a different time was a different time and the point was that we were making fun of the appropriation of it. Right? It's. It's clearly a joke. I get why people are offended by it but. To defend it for a second Minh it was a joke in the obvious joke very obvious. The outfit was. So over time you know who should be upset by it cowboys, acapella singers Oh. Yeah I asked you in fact if you were offended by that what did I say? UH, at the time I was I think currently unoccupied. In two thousand and five you were in. Well, we don't go into it but everyone knows that you were in a band. No, the country knows and. Yeah where you offended by that because they kind of make fun of power in that light of make fun of it. Completely make fun of I wasn't offended because I. Think a lot of Acapella music is deserves to be made fun of not the music itself but the people who do well, that's the thing that's the difference between like native Americans they take themselves very seriously often that's for my experience that they are they're ripe for satire whereas native Americans. Are the last people that deserve to be made fun of right. It's and and again I don't just defend again I don't think we were making fun of Native Americans. It was the tackiness of that of our appropriation. The joke was that the group was named the tone Rangers he was all awards a play on loan. which had a character named Tanto right? It's just circumstance but really they're making fun of acapella singers. Again, I can understand why seeing that image would also be offensive. So are we talking about this? Yesterday is very offensive. Now, our guest today is a big Acapella fan or my God. No. I think he'd be the opposite of that. Maybe be fucking kidding me. I guess I would say he's not an occupying now but he is SR guest today is Jay Johnson but I already know people know and we're talking about Chicago Jake is. A Chicago native which people probably also know you can hear it in his voice. He's very Chicago. He talks about yeah. He's got this just a real Chicago. Feel it reminds me of. Another Chicago I grew up outside Chicago, but jake is just one like Vince I think is remarkably funny. I would suggest him he's sharp sharp quick. I put him up there with Vince as among the funniest people I've ever met people with whom I just love to bits with laughing with Jacobs. Just the best I'm going to new grow with him. Yeah Jake was the star of new girl. I known him a little bit before them but not well him through my friend John Taylor. A star. Yeah. New Girl Yeah. He's a star. He's one of the many. He's a star now. Yeah. But he wasn't star. That's true. That's true. In fact. The first year was on he was like they didn't know what to do with Jake really he was like the I, guess the. A lot club it. Yeah. kind of but. What a great showcase that show became for him and we'll get into that. Oh, he's a great movie. Have you seen it all Joe Swat so good you look winning. All Joe? So it really is. It's like a throwback to Christian. I've been watching easy riders raging balls the hard for me to say the documentary about seventies cinema. I is it pretentious to called cinema? Wasn't you asked the question I think it is I wouldn't say eighty cinema because eighties to mirror more like kind of. Accessible Shawki not as. Artistic. I guess what I think is pretentious and I was guilty of this the other day I was responding to an. Eighties movies I was responding to an email about. The movie we made. And I was writing to one of the producers and I forget exactly what the context was. But I referred to in the email asthma film and I sent the email and I immediately felt like do she gets Dick Chief Film it's a movie. I mean there are films film. You didn't make a film Paul. Thomas. Anderson. makes. Pill. Yeah. That'd be made a movie we made. A lot of jokes and his films. But were excited for people to see our movie. Coming out soon hopefully, we saw trailer for it's exciting anyway. Jake. Is Not an R. Movie, but Jake is a really great film called winning our and drinking buddies. Good. Good. Jake was smart. He did a lot of buddies about takes place in a bar. With wild he's not drinking bud light Seltzer, but he is drinking beer. Hey. Nice. Speaking of. Out. How Let's all right. Let's hear. "I are gone with Mario Lopez. Lopez joining me now on zoom from the new Netflix show hoops actor. Jake Johnson. Welcome to the show man how you doing good man how are you? Nice to talk to you? I'm well, thank you. congrats on the show hoops. What's it about? Who is an R. rated show about a basketball coach in a small town in Kentucky? It's kind of like bad news bears four adults. It is. There's a lot of F domes in it. They're mature themes, but it's a comedy show by comedy people just for laughs that sounds like a fun concept and I read that it had to be animation because it was too filthy to be live action. I'll tell you this. I wouldn't want my face in it because I don't want my kids to see me. That's funny. It's going to be so much fun to really work on. We started this idea about seven years ago. The crater, Ben Hoffman came to me with an idea zapper season, one of new girl to do a pilot presentation for MTV. Hitched was let's just be so kind of gross and loud that they have to pass but have fun, and so we did it and they passed and then epochs came around and bought ten of them for kind of adult animation Oh. That's great. Crazy experiment. It's a really loud show. Yes. But we cast the funniest people we could. Have everybody's role on it was just to let it rip and just. Be Funny Yeah it is. It is a great Cassie, I rob Riggle and attaches. And as it, I imagine animation you have to stay pretty. Strict with the with the dialogue or is there room for riffing and Atlit really because of the cast we had in the style of show we had. We did an opposite we've recorded I. saw an end the and Oh that's smart. That's great because we had you know you got a scene with, let's say Rawle will and you know Nick Swartz let state and what's written is a couple of good jokes but if you Got Really Funny People you know, let them go let them improvise. Let's see what they can cleo king who plays the principal shoes on an episode of new girl and I found her so funny in that that I cast her in this and she is an actor's actor line..

Why Is HBO Max Still Not on Roku or Amazon Fire TV?
"One of the major problems with HBO. Max's launch isn't necessarily the content although we talked about why that may also be a problem area. It's that most of the country can't get it because Warner has not been able to work out carriage agreements with Roku or Amazon their fire products like fire stick. So if YOU WATCH TV Either of those places which are many many millions of people, Roku is just really flexing its muscle ought recently, you cannot watch HBO Maximus. Things. And in fact, they were so petty that when they sunset at HBO, they just deleted it like, yeah you could get hbo on your fire stick or even other gone and I delete peacock is the same situation but the deals just have not been worked out and so. You yes. You could make the counterargument that. The fact that people can't see it is just temporarily delaying the fact that people might not want to see what they can see wants to get it but short term, this is a major issue. Yes. So explain this to me like essentially the only people who can get it are those who have access to what Apple TV. You can watch it on your browser correct lake you can. Write. But if you're using primarily a fire sticker, a Roku to watch watch all your APPs, you just can't get HBO Max. It's not available through stores. Yes and I think that the line Amazon is drawing his interesting I don't have any opinions not nearly informed enough as to its legality or it's Best. Practices goods or tape or whatever. But it seems like HBO wants a little at Button to just be there whereas Amazon wants to put it inside of its channels choice. So basically, you're it's silo further away You could argue that that's because they want people to watch their prime video content instead but anyway, all of this is is ongoing in and. Jason Cholera who is now in charge Warner media made this big centerpieces conversations with the press after the firings the other day like they have to get it in front of people peacock is facing the same situation to and it reminds me once again that for as. Industry focuses we are, and like I watch TV through an apple TV and you might as well. This idea that we were pushing for a while that may be apple just kind of wanted to be the portal they wanted to be the thing that you used to watch your TV. Maybe. That's still the case but a lot more people watch TV through other devices. Than, they watch it through Apple TV in that's having a major effect
"jake johnson" Discussed on Slate's Culture Gabfest
"Aid kit the anchor dot FM slash first aid kit all right let's get into it all right jake johnson that beautiful chicago turtle turtle bear i don't know we want to call and he's a bad that'll tussle it all works where did you first see him what do you remember seeing i mean seen i've seen him in multiple things but i think it's difficult for me to kind of name one of the first i just know that when i saw him in new girl every every single part of me just stood to attention i was like oh shit that's that's my cat near you had schmidt on the one hand you had coach on the the and i was like fine max greenfield show whatever damon wayans junior sure whatever who the fuck is that rumpled motherfucker because i love a rumpled man someone who looks as if they haven't seen an iron possibly years ooh yeah i love lived in kind of like oh he's kind of like leftover mind like shit like i'm just like oh my god we're gonna have really cozy often oh yeah one that's not necessarily my thing but i think i he focused on his character nick miller on new girl because he was clearly the love interest i was going to be the love interest for our jessica the day right and so i wanted to see what they were going to do he was also just i liked his voice so he was as a you know this raspy yelling man like almost everything he said was in a yale which is a little annoying in real life but for the show you know it's very funny so i i was interested in seeing where he was going to go with all of his yelling but really you know i just thought he was cute and he was says this is going to sound terrible but like an average cute when i mean approachable i don't feel intimidated looking at him and intimidating intimidated intimidated is too strong of a word but there's some people are just like oh you're beautiful for me i'm going to move on and he's still a very handsome good looking man but i also felt like oh i could see see him in real life and i could actually like buy him a drink and see what's going on yeah he feels to me like british kids like british british TV q. i ah i always thought even when i was a kid i was felt to me like americans with two beautiful on TV rini reflect you know kind of like it felt so glamorous like everyone has got to be kind of like teeth achingly beautiful male and female and everything in between and with jake he kind of reminds me of all the british TV guys that i found is is when i was growing up where i'm kind of like oh yeah you normal you feel like like you said like i could hurt you in by wouldn't feel like oh my god was looking at the sun no that is an average sized moon like i can look and he he's very kind of yet clearly very handsome has beautiful head of have i just love i love his calls he's just very yeah like i said he looks lived in he looks like he's been around the world he's slept in a youth hostel to like he hasn't traveled through hotels necessarily you know what i mean like yeah he i love the flashbacks that they do for example with mcmil where he has a terrible like soul patch terrible being around like a tie dye puncher yeah like he i know him i know him so horribly well i think like you said he seems so obviously setup as the love interest and the reason why of course the rising points to and whatever but also i think on an instinctive level i looked at him and i was like him yeah jessica might have done in a similar like on a gut level where she wasn't even necessarily acknowledging right i that kind of man is not anybody that i would necessarily gravitate to i like someone who's comfortable in his skin but i don't want somebody who like nick miller thinks that he doesn't need to wash his towel the towel was clean because he's clean and therefore the you know the towel is going to be cleaned i love my no we're not going to do that i need you to have better hygiene but i appreciate that he was just like i don't know what i want from this life but i know i want it to be good and i'm just gonna do what i can to be happy in my own way and you know when he started to try to be this writer and he wrote this is really interesting i don't know some kind of neo nor book that was just like this horrible mishmash of everything that he has ever watched on television and let it say much julius food yes i love pepper would i love him so much he's like the PI but he's also kind of like a rough and tumble guy kill the i love i love what i also really love about jesus pepe would and that became a waie sensation of all things is that if you look through the series you can see them peppering in the idea of him being a writer ideas yeah you're that terrible zombie novel and last first or second season he has other little misadventures in literature sure and then finally he settled on it like you said mishmash of every single one of his influences are experiencing comes a book that teenage girls low i just it just seems he's like the perfect way to end his journey as a literary mind it's kind of like yeah teenage girls love this shit it's fascinating yeah i think that this is a way for liz meriwether or to highlight the fact that teen girls are on it they know the pulse of pop culture they know who is hi and who is not they just have very instinctive often correct way of picking out the next best thing they the the oracles they know all the stuff or not the oracles other priestesses at the oracle they know everything they walk around they see th england england they know things and then they express them and of course the world does what it does with teenage girls but they're never never but they're really wrong and it's so interesting kind of have that embedded in this show just a very quiet thing is the main thing but listen listen guys when i say this i mean this i appreciate that well-sponsored nicole but yeah so i saw even even you go that's like his big big big thing but he's actually he'd obviously been very active before new go because new goal started in twenty eleven and he'd been working by then for a few years like we said before he's from chicago and he started off doing sketch comedy which i feel like every man in the midwest socially at one point or another was doing improv that's the impression i get from the internet but of course he grew up he was a fine of second city which is like a very legendary enron troop and then he kind live started his own sketch comedy troupe which festival that's why it's minus thing ever and the troupe was called the midwesterners which again shoutout to that clean that's just like people are proud of it for him but yeah i really love that he kind of started out with something it felt like he was passionate from the stock aw i love my begin something so into it yeah he was in this indie films kind of a mockumentary called paper heart he was a little mean in it but i liked him in that despite yourself kinda crush yes i'm you you know what i'm just look i like my whiteman dark-haired and like you know just a little bit of a tude yeah you know i get it yeah yeah that's the paper hearts yes and i think you mentioned that liz meriwether saw him and paper heart and that's how she got him or she was thinking about him for your new girl from that yeah so she basically saw him in paper heart was impressive what she saw and then asked him to audition for no strings attached eleven as well uh-huh but she basically said i'm going to put your name forward in i'm this me paraphrasing yeah you're going to have to dishing but like and that's what ease the way into new go oh because once she'd cost him in strings attached it was easy as kind of say hey remember that guy i watched no-strings-attached for the first time not too long ago it is not a good movie no i keep thinking about the war that year between and friends with benefits yeah friends have benefits one anyway away in this though he plays his character called eli who is kind of like this kind of charming lovable kind of housemate type of person you know he's like he's in the group super friends with ludicrous listen twenty an interesting time but ludicrous and nick miller and fucking ashton kutcher all somehow best buds and listen i'm not saying it was convincing has like he his character had a liquor business or they ball ryan so it also with like spun con for liudas real liquor whatever was alive wasn't many reasons not to love of this film but nick miller aka ally aka jay johnson is not one of them because if you watch it it does feel a little bit like he's a prototype it is high like listening trying out to see yes you know this is the kind of guy she was interested in writing at the time because eli is kind of the beginning building blocks it's not all the way but he's sort of a kind of an early prototype of the guy that nick miller would turn out to be and it's always interesting to see people kind of workshop through until they get the final form yeah and i'm delighted that she goes to keep jake in the role because it's actually it turns out i think you know in his obituary many years from now hopefully they'll just just be a whole section titled naked mila because he's an iconic character yeah and it's interesting because from there he's kind of played almost the same character character and much of the stuff that he's done since and we have a little clip.
