US presidents decided that like the British monarch. They needed their own personal coat of arms as well. We spoke by email with Matthew Castello senior historian for the White House Historical Association. He said that the great seal quote was the official symbol of the United States federal government not the office of the Presidency Eh as such some president simply used the great seal while others thought that the president should have their own distinct seal. "And and it was more depressing because I was looking at it in a very negative way. Yeah. Like my position in j even though my pay was bumped up and my duties were reduced. I I was just saying to myself like, oh, you're worthless. You only doing one duty for j k which is day party. That's crazy because most people want. Yes. Work for more money. Exactly. Exactly. You got rewarded? But when you're in a dark depressed place the mind finds so many ways to make things dark. No matter. What I always say. Like when you're when you're. Depressed like it's like living in hell. Like, even if things are positive that's going on somehow, man, your mind turns against you. And it finds somewhat somehow like it finds a way to be negative about sending and turn people against each other. Just it's just so toxic. Yeah. And it's a it's an this going through this. I learned that the mind is very powerful in manipulating yourself. And I didn't think that before I thought like I I'm being honest with everybody here. Whereas I thought mental illnesses were only forbi- churches like you're a bitch. If you have a mental illness. You're you're weak minded. Yeah. Yeah. Like, I never can happen to me. I have that hustle mentality. I work harder. I have a great work ethic. I I'm you know, I will never stoop to that level. Yeah. I guess, and I always I'm always grateful and humble and bless never like, you know. Yeah. I just never thought I would get a mental illness. I'm right there with you men like I think. Went through a lot of. Depressive states in exile. In like, I went through a lot of crazy mental statesmen. And I never I always denied it like, I'm not no fucking bitch. And I'm gonna fight through this shit. Yeah. And then like you don't go through with the most healthiest ways sometimes. And I think that's why a lot of was berry ourselves and drugs and alcohol in like escape escaping like try to run away from the problems. We're like when we see that. And we go all man, I mean, bugging cool. I'm not, you know, we used to say that on Jake Jake. He news all the time. Like, all everyone's depressed everyone's like bitch. And and it's like just because someone's depressed from like something that seemed like a first world problem doesn't mean that their experiences at real. That's what I realized. Because like for me. I'm like, I think I'm always always like, man. How can you be depressed when you're so fucking rich, and you got every? Yeah. And it's like you don't deserve to be depressed when I went through. So. So much. But like that's a very immature way of seeing things because you know, like some people they never got exposed to the there were just fortunate. So so they're they're going to get triggered an depressed by other things other things, but the feeling is still real like, the how fucking depressed they get. How sad they are. How hurt they are how they feel so disabled to walk outside and all that shit that shit's real. And then, you know, I started to have more compassion because I was like fuck, man. Some of my fans are going through this shit. Do I want to make them feel like you know, like dirt don't be a bitch. Like there a week bitch. Like, no like, I need to empower people man like and for me. I'm like, I think like always thought like, you know, okay. If your situation is horrible like both of your parents are like fucking serial killers and they're drugged out. And in like an in like you had it really. Really bad. Then I'm like, okay. Then you could be the press. Well, it's like who am I to say be the judge of depression like who's allowed to have it who's? Yeah. Yeah. That's how that's how most of us are like back in a day was like us a bitch. Like, you shouldn't be depressed because you got this or that or whatever. But I'm like and everyone gets it. I think it's like it's like the flu. Like, everyone gets everyone gets sick. Everyone gets in life goes up and down and up and down and some people stay down for a long time..

"How're you doing? I'm doing fine. Thank you very much. Hey, what's going on with the stock market? Got a big selloff today. The tech stocks are really leading us down today because they have such big winners. Even though the Dow had of ask slow down a little bit of it ten point this year still up for the year. The NASDAQ of the tech stocks, really really roaring. And now if you're a big investor with a lot of money, and you're seeing higher interest rates out there 'cause interesting it'd be going higher. Why not take your profits and all those tech games and put them in a CD or something that can yield you little bit of a higher interest rates. So it's kind of wrong to say, oh, there's fears about tech stocks fears about interest rates. It's just a case of hey, I can make guaranteed money on my already big profits somewhere else. And it's about moving money around more than it is about like, oh, I think the economy is going to be, you know, hurting or something like that. It's still nobody out there and thinks the economy being threat. This is just a movement in the markets right now, and that happens sometimes when you have a market, this is going up and up and up you get some profit taking at some point. Yeah. A few times and ball street and main street are not always on the same page, you know, main streets doing well wages. They're up. The job was you know, the jobless rate is still far down. This is a fantastic time for the American economy. The stock market doesn't trade in concert with the economy all the time because there's other ways to make money, and there's other ways to lose money. Even when the economy is doing well, one of those things that young people should really learn very early on and financial literacy, I know we have a financial literacy, but you should never judge the economy based on just what the stock market is doing. It's only one of the many. Yeah. So for all the people are in sitting there and cash and they've wanted to get in on Amazon or apple or some what's the best thing. Wait a little while. Wait until the end of October. That would be my advice. You know again. I'm not a licensed financial analysts to make that clear to everyone. Here might wanna see me, you know. I mean, I would wait until the end of October always evolved for months for saying. I think that. Yeah. Take a look after this rapid eight. But I I think I know where you're going with that question. I would say yes, I mean companies like Amazon and apple they will recover. And this might be one of those opportunities that they say buy on the dip. This is a down day down week or so for those big tech names, if you really think Amazon is gonna stop spelling tomorrow, then fine, you know, call the end of the world trade. But if you're sorta a little bit more rational, I think that they're going to continue to be a big player. This might be an opportunity where you maybe wait another couple of days, and then make a bite if that's how could Amazon not grow in the coming years, we see the retail business bit by bit is dying. And the biggest beneficiary that'll be Amazon. Yes. And you know, I tweeted something out earlier this week. I hope people at Jake Jake NY. This is a conversation. I think that will somebody will have in the next six to twelve months. Some of them say, oh, you know, the one thing that Amazon desert deal is doctors, you know, you can't get still need to go. See your doctor? You can't do that online at him. Jeff as I was gonna say well that start a series of Amazon house calls, although Amazon card and get you there. We'll call it Amazon docks or whatever you wanna call it. I mean, I have no doubt about what I have learned. And this has been humbling for me because I'm in one of those people over the last few years is that Amazon couldn't get into a Amazon, and then you find out they can't. So for example, a couple of weeks ago. They're now they're challenging the seven elevens of the Indian stores of the well people thought, oh that could never happen. How could they challenged fast food or convenience stores? Well, they're doing that. With these cashier stories at the direct attack on seven eleven and whatever other story in a white hand, if you're in Chicago, those kinds of places, and I think that they will go after not just like the medicine with drugs and things like root prescription drugs. I think they will now start to Bill after those places where they can't make. A move yet. But I think we'll they will soon which is my doctors they might be some kind of house called type service is some of them on the internet are ready to buy a premade company. They wouldn't even have to start it. So look for stuff like that to happen in the now. Okay. But what about somebody saying if I if you have this Amazon stock at some point next year some point the government's just going to step in and bus the company up now that doesn't necessarily have to hurt the stock company up you get a stock split over overtime. You might get you might make more money on that mean, you might it might take a hit in the beginning might not if they bust up a company, and suddenly it's a little bit more streamlined that a lot of investors will say, oh, God less overhead. Now, I can invest in a more streamlined version of Amazon invest in both and maybe find the positives. And either, you know, this is a lot of history. This plenty of companies have been broken up. You know, an AT and T was broken. If you initially bought some of those companies that is broken up before the big tech bomb in two thousand for example, you made a lot of money on companies like lucid technologies, which is one of the things. Splits off. It doesn't necessarily mean that the loss of either. I mean, you know, I look at markets easy answer because over the course of time in this country. If you stay with stocks, and you you ride out those songs come every ten fifteen years, you're going to be ahead. So that's a great mantra Jake Novak. Hey, you should check Jake. Novak news every day and sign up for the briefing. And was it Jake Jake. At my Twitter feed. It at Jake Jake NY at chicken wind up plenty of financial and political and and other stuff there everyday. Hey, this company, we work. I think that just gets bigger and bigger I see more and more actual companies with offices getting rid of their offices to just rent space at one of these we workplaces. Yeah. And and you see them everywhere here in Manhattan. I mean, you think that you've seen one for a couple of blocks, and you think oh that'll be an ESPN other one. But this is a big bet that a number of different investors are making in the fact that people will now out for temporary office space where they share a break room where they share a conference room. And it certainly is a I think a good deal for the customers. Whether or not we work at can make a lot of money on this in the long run. I think is very iffy. But they're going to take a shot at it. And now SoftBank which Japanese Bank is investing media up to twenty billion dollars. And they believe in this business model. I don't have a strong argument against it. But I will just say it is definitely a bad. It's not a sure thing that this will work out because again, even temporary offices are going to I think be considered a little bit too much of an overhead if you can do some of this from your home. But hey, sometimes you just need to be in the city and be able to have meetings that look like you have a professional space. I can see why they're making this bet. I just don't know. Where it's gonna end up. So the reason you would go to we work is you don't wanna pay all this crazy rent you have a lease. So you just rent from them. But on the other hand, they have to pay this crazy lease prices, right? I don't know how it works. Yeah. It's a bad. And I think I think that they'll they'll their best option. I think I think what they're hoping in their best kitchen areas that the landlords are going to start to lower their prices because they're not going to have as many other choices other than we were. We were able to come to understand that look we know this bar lining around. You know? No, I'm not around the corner to buy your property, and maybe they can get some lower prices and needed. That's what thought thank is thinking that eventually they're going to get much lower overhead costs themselves. Hey, what's going on with McDonald's? You know? I mean, they're everywhere. It's a great operation. But now people are eating healthier and healthier and healthier in this lesson that McDonald's menu that they want to eat healthwise. Yeah. And McDonald's also seem you know, McDonald's, you know, when you get into a franchises. Sometimes it seems like boy I just bought an ATM gets plenty of money all the time. But, you know, a company like McDonald's has a lot of requirements for their franchisees and one of the things they require them to do in the last several years is to remodel and to improve the look of their individual restaurants. Well, that costs the franchise owner he's got to pay for that. Or she's got a pay for that. And they decided that these costs have been too much. They're okay with doing it. But they want McDonalds to start helping them with their cash flow. So that they can make up the cost of the robotic and McDonald's has never had a franchisees association. A lot of the other chance have a bunch of franchises get together and act. Almost like a union against the company if they ever have any grievances. I never had one. And now, it looks like there's one that's going to be formed, and when you consider the amount of experience and smarts, a.

"I guess this jake tapper and he's the anchor of cnn's the lead every weekday afternoon anchors the sunday morning cnn show state of the union now he has a new novel called the hellfire club that set in nineteen fifty four and it's about a congressman and there's a lot of like intrigue thriller kind of and there's a lot of characters from the period real characters from the period who figure into the story so jake one of the things you've done is anchor presidential primary debates presidential debates what's your favorite type of format for those kinds of debates and if you could change like what would your ideal format be well first of all let me say that they're so much fun i mean i remember oh god are they really well in a way the pressure must be so extra pressures very intense and it's very high stakes and all that but as a political junkie as somebody who remembers watching presidential debates in the nineteen eighty s when i was a kid it's cool sitting in the best seat in the house and asking questions that's just fine and yeah i mean it comes with a whole it's not often but but that side of it is is just an amazing experience and and and humbling and challenging and everything like that i will say so we did the republican i moderated the republican presidential debates in september two thousand fifteen first we did an undercard debate with the four people who didn't make the main stage and then i did the main debate which had eleven people because it was supposed to be the top ten but then carly fiorina kind of like muscled her way on stage so it was eleven and i will say that's too many people when you have eleven people and i think it was a three hour debate god was it oh my god i think it was then it's just a crush for time people are just so desperate to get to say something i just i still echoing in my head is jake jake jake jake jake jake senators and governors jank jank oh my god so so i think that's too many people but that's at it's fun have often wondered if networks should have like a crawl at the bottom of the screen fact checking the debate.
