"It never really leaves. Yeah, I guess the Castellanos I have not looked at projection. But I guess he's probably projected to be not much better than an average player hitter I would imagine. So I think I also got his I think I got his projected warp exactly right too. I think it was 1.7, I think. Okay. So you remember roughly what an average player is and also I guess that Nick Castellanos is one more or less. Yeah, yeah, exactly. That's exactly right. And I remembered to do a little adjustment for the lowered offensive environment and stuff like that. Yeah. I would say. I will say that probably the first month or so is going to be a lot of, I don't know. There might not be a lot of proper nouns if you know what I mean. It might be some sort of generalities about the nature of sport. And try not to notice that too much. And then we'll get into graphs later. Yeah. It's almost like the pressure's off because they're too many players now for anyone to know all of them. Because of the 26 man roster. Yeah. I knew about that, by the way. You had it holstered. That's right. Yeah. And also just the way that roster shuffle and players get optioned. I mean, maybe that's a little less egregious now than it was. But just because of the way pitchers are used now, they're just hundreds more players per season than there used to be. And many more players debuting. So no one knows all of them. Maybe Eric long and Hagan maybe knows all of them, and maybe like dynasty league people know all of them, but I don't know all of them. Most people don't know of them. So it's a defensible now, I think, maybe in a way that it wasn't in the past when there were fewer teams or fewer players, and there was no excuse for not knowing all the players. Now it's like, no one knows all of them. So you just have your cutoff somewhere for who clears the bar of notable enough. Yeah. I just don't want to clarify, because Jake was the cousin, Jake. It's like cousin. I don't just say like, oh, your name's Jake. I'm gonna name a random baseball player with your name. It's like a cousin Jake Jake cousins. Yes. We got the joke even though you were with, I guess. So now I imagine everyone is signing up for your substack, now that they know that you remember that kind of cousins and probably, I guess we should say you have a sub stack. So probably most people listening to this are aware of that by now and probably Sam Miller has a substack is sort of a, you had me at hello situation for a lot of people listening, but for anyone who actually does need to be persuaded to part with their money, I know you're just raring to go with a hard sell here. You've got to just a great sales pitch rehearsed because you're just such a relentless self promoter. So you probably have the pattern down. You're asking me to do this. Are you preparing? Yeah, go ahead. Well, I mentioned when I was on here a year ago that I thought I might write a book. And you know, I started writing a lot of stuff that was like a book. And you know, it can be a real long process of turning a thing into a book, and it can be frustrating, and you deal with a lot of stuff like covers and things. And I just, you know, I got to a point last fall where I was just incredibly impatient to go. I didn't want to, I didn't want to take that time. I didn't want to wait that long. I didn't want to have to sell it in that way. And so I thought, let's go. And so that's what I decided to do is just I wanted to get going. And so I'm going to write about everything. I'm going to write about all sorts of stuff. I'm going to write more than 18 posts, but something like 18 of them over the next year or so are going to be from that project. That project being unofficially not actually titled, but unofficially titled the meaning of baseball in 18 ish fun facts. And so the first one just went up and it was a long exhaustively researched meditation on the 1916 giants who won 26 games in a row, which is a record. And during the entire 26 game winning streak, never got out of fourth place. And so they're all kind of like that. They're like my favorite fun facts or things that have always been favorite parts of baseball history or baseball present to me and I'm looking ever deeper into them and deconstructing what they mean and telling them as stories. So that's kind of the spine of it. The next post that I write is not going to be that. The next post that I write involves the phrase drunk umpire. And so there's kind of that stuff too. Although there might have been drunk umpires during the 1916, which is probably more like giant season. Yeah, they probably were a lot of them. So there's going to be like some whimsy and some stuff and it's just a hodgepodge. You know, I have a hard time. I've never really been able to write anything except whatever I was most excited to write in the moment. And that means that there's going to be stuff that is all over the board. That's what it is. It's like all over the board. Whatever I get excited about is I'm going to write about it. So sub stack. Yeah. Famously, no editors. That's so stack. How are you? And I know you're sending everything to RJ. So I don't mean to say that it's not getting screened. He just slowly scrolls though. It's not as helpful as you'd think. But what's that been like writing stuff and then being like, I guess I can hit publish on this. Well. Look. Ben and I were each other's editors for like 5 years, which basically just meant that we posted our own stuff. I don't know. I am more nervous when it hasn't been edited. Yeah. That is true. But not that much more nervous and to be honest, it's really nice to when you have an editor who is going to be like a wall between you and publishing, you end up writing for the editor instead of writing for yourself or for the audience, you just think what's going to get me out of work today. What's going to get me off the clock this afternoon. And so then that sometimes causes you to be a little bit safer than you might otherwise be. And so I don't know. It has, I don't think it's likely to change what I do, all that much. I guess actually even before that before baseball perspectives, I was at the Orange County register. And 90 some percent of what I wrote, I just posted myself. As well. So probably not that big a difference. I mean, if you're looking for some work to do on the side. I know that you have a lot of free time. And what you like to use that free time on is editing baseball writing. Yeah, because it's really different than what I do with my non free time with my purchased time. What's that? What is the opposite? What is the right opposite of that expression? Yeah, that's good. Well, you know, Sam, if you ever want another pair of eyes on something, I am happy to I am happy to look at it. I don't mean to suggest, by the way, that you're going to put slop out there or anything. I just am curious because I'm increasingly terrified of writing at all, you know? So the idea of writing without anyone looking at it is maybe just a convenient manifestation of an existing chair. Yeah. It's also, I would imagine it feels like a safe space probably because you're writing for a curated audience of people who have opted into the same Miller experience, right? I mean, it's like when we wrote for baseball prospectus, generally, people had to pay to read that the comments were pretty smart, usually.

Seo or billy says hey. I'll see you at class. His class tonight like yeah so they're both taking acting classes together and he's upper on the stage and he's recalling a time when he was very afraid is a child playing hide and the instructor tries to get him to cry out for help but he can't do it. He's playing a game with his brothers called. Find the sardine your something which is basically hide-and-seek yes but this is showing where his claustrophobia comes from. He's hiding behind a freezer when he was a child from his brother's playing the frame. He's struggling. he can't even cry for help. he's like frozen. You keep saying i can't. The teacher keeps like yelling at. Yes you have to act cry for help. He says i can't. I'm afraid so then sam. Is there watching this. And he interrupts the lesson and kinda sticks. Jake kinda tells a teacher. His this is a brain fuck. Does this teach. is this a class. What mind fuck. yeah then. He grabs jake and takes them out of class and says this is. This is an exit as he's walking out to think. Oh i go back to the bar course s. That's where men go to do mainly things after acting class. Yes then we learned this. Sam says he is separated from his wife. Yuccas sam checked out the waitress right off the bat. Jake jake's he says aren't you married. Yeah and as where. I find out that jake is not married to carol right. We tells sam the whole story about catching her with another dude. He says her face was glowing thing. They have a conversation about that. How do you make face glow. I've never been able to make her face glow whatever and he says he keeps reliving it which makes sense. I mean he would absolutely so it turns out. Sam is house sitting at a place and he has to go out of town for a few weeks up to seattle for some actor. Shit any says. Hey how would you like to stay in their in house it while. I'm away since. "Actual real quarterback for the first time. And the kirby smart era of coaching the georgia bulldogs georgia's actually. He's actually going to have a quarterback worth a damn. Sorry state from jake jake estate from speaking about you but You know j. daniels. Remember that guy former u. s. recruit. He was The he played from matter day. High school down there southern california overnight in anaheim and in that with the School that They they'll make too many. Nfl quarterback but they damn sure can turn out some really good high school quarterbacks who win all these acclaimed to win all these awards. i remember bat barclay. Remember matt barkley. Who played for usc. For a little bit. And i think last. Check that A couple of years ago. He was the third string quarterback for the philadelphia eagles. Well matt barkley few years when the the few years that he went that he was High school quarterback of name recognition and While he was doing down there. I think he was the player of the year two times in a row. He was player of the year of football when he was a junior in high school. He was supposed to be the guy that was supposed to rewrite the record. Books in the us built to be the next great thing and he was supposed to replace jelly with your peanut butter and you know and Poultry replaced sausage. Which your eggs and your Chocolate which your shake. And he was supposed to be that type of guy and he went to. Usc in you know he's all right but not great jt daniels with the same guy jt daniels as a junior at matter day. Was i believe the player of the year gatorade player of the year and i think that he skipped senior year. King right into a college in play for usc so at first game when playing against hawaii on the islands and you know you saw the talent you saw how impressive that he was but He suffered an acl injury. Got beat out By keeping vous and he decided to go somewhere else so he went over and he played and he transferred over to georgia. And as i mentioned before the most talented and gifted quarterback curry smart has had at georgia. So now we can actually see georgia ever since it'll be interesting to see this game because again it's one game and we're not going to sit here and say that the whole season is going to be based on one game especially when you have the talent that georgia has especially when you're speaking about the conference. That georgia is in the sec west. But the sec east where you have banned built. You have tennessee and you have those type. Squads that Georgian crush is they lose to clemson and losing at clemson. First game of the season is definitely without question not a death nail. So it'll be interesting to see. I'm curious interested inquiries. I'm not only interested. I'm sure i'm curious. I'm interested curious guy about Purba smart what's he gonna do the game. Because i'm telling you man. What would the last time. Kirby smart won a big game. Should i say what were the last time kirby smart willing important game or should i say what is been a record of kirby smart in these mur marquee ba games. I know that he beat notre dame last last season and that was a big deal at the time was no not lie last season a couple of seasons ago when notre dame traveled down to georgia and georgia. What was it last season. I don't know man. I mean getting mixed up a basically. What i'm trying to say is that kirby hasn't been very successful in marquee big gains ak alabama aka texas and the sugar bowl when when they needed to come a big in a big game attention. Getting game spotlight's on them game. National attention zaandam. Gay more often than not. They have failed to live up to big game expectations. so what are they gonna do against clinton. I'm not saying that you have to go ahead. And they have to go to clemson and win. But i'm just interested to see now. The kirby has the quarterback that can. Actually i'll i don't know throw the ball down the field with some type of plume then. Let's see what happens with georgia. Let's see what happens with this team which is top five both of these squaws georgia and clemson this game. Let's see how well it catapults them the winner. It catapults them to a successful season. Which means a winning a championship. The conference championship getting into the playoffs to winning the national semi final game then winning that national championship window world and sports. I'm your host win. "That twist of the smart zombies and trying to get ahead. Yeah that would have been a much better and tighter film. i think I'll give it a high tastes it just because i had so much fun watching in the theater and it was. It was like the facts. Were really good And again like most of the performances were were pretty decent Like the coyote lady quite a bit. I really liked the. The locksmith guy. He was the best deeter. Dido's the fucking best. Fucking leader was fucking hilarious. I read some prequel about his character. Nice i fucking i. Love dealer fucking was the best character in the movie. I fucking loved. He was fantastic Even like the the weird like Guy who shot a bunch of stuff. Random team members dad fucking guy that they got from like instagram or whatever the youtube videos oculus of yeah yeah like i thought. His performance is like the performances. Were good i just. There are definite problems with the plot and whatnot but overall my experience gives it a high taste. I i do. I do appreciate like the over the top kind of like characters and the backgrounds that they give him. It reminds me of sam. Raimi's the quick and the dead. I always kind of liked that stuff like each one of these characters have their own specific set of skills and like what they're going to bring to the team. I think at the end of the day like the story just wasn't tight. I thought i thought batista was fantastic. I thought dylan hunt played great fucking villain but there's so many holes in the story that like it kind of took me out of it but overall i mean it's just a solid taste for me and it's one of those where it's like. I fucking fucking lava zombie movie. I love a great zombie movie but manson sasol. What did you rate it neil. I taste a high tastes. That jake with my experience going back to the theater for the first time in over a year. Jake jake. i'm yeah. I i understand that jake. I'm going to wait on your toss. I'm gonna hear from christopher's darn it high. Taste it for me Flip through surprising. Because i very low expectations and i guess i would say there are parts that i would like tupperware. I really love batista in this. Like he's good. He's really good. Yeah he like damn. You're like as far. I don't know this might be controversial. I think he's of all the wwe wrestlers who have gone into acting. I think that was the most impressive to me. I don't know. I think i think is doing really good too. I like it when he does comedy. The guy that's the underdog that i wanna see. Fucking succeed is batista. Yeah but as far as like super good dude he is. He's just a great like i wrote. I gave him like a fucking fresh rating when i reviewed stupor and i posted that article and he tweeted it. Man like he fucking. I like. he didn't have to do that. And i was just like holy shit he says. This is a fucking freshman. The i loved stupor. I thought it was super bunny but and he didn't have to. he's just. He's very appreciative of of people. That enjoy all the. Here's the thing. And i feel bad for a lot of actors and i feel bad sometimes like when we do. This show is because we have to get on here and we just watched something and we fucking didn't like it and here's the thing it's like these people this is the this has been their job for the past like half a year or whatever like this is what they fucking put their hard work into and then me and jake get on here and just.

We're less than average And i did not. I didn't do very good job all right. So you're just constantly trying to make the changes get better horses. Rod better learn because this is a different run that you're you're trying to make is there's a lot of setups really good and then there's a handful that probably like you said you have good winners and i think i mean. Obviously you've got some trained with who wrote that it's you made some of the wildest from ever see that i'm not talking about the podcast. The run from Cody i mean. That's probably top five seeing all time you know just rodeos hunt but like going back to this as a as a header and or just as someone that's competing because this is what i found it interesting you really start living with levi. He had made the finals. But there's levi he's a grinder he's gonna be at all the amateur rodeo all jackpots. I'm sure you hadn't been healing tongue out of know what you're healing career. But i feel like it's getting kicked back off at them slides and whatever wrote that you guys can enter your. I think that's kind of fun. But what does that feel like going from a because it's an transition you've got a great veteran healer really experienced guy. He knows how to make money to a guy that he's just grinding it out everyday. So when you say rejuvinated what about believing you guys could go this far like when you guys decide like hey we you know we kid. We need to have our names down there. was there a stage. There was that just always expectations from the beginning. I mean i guess at that point where i was up. I was very unsure of myself. And and what i could do. And then you know hadn't even seen him that much just a little bit because i hadn't around stephenville much at that time and You know are always the dole's to make that. Make the finals. But looking back where i was at dan. That doesn't seem like i could wrap my head around. doing that. makes sense like it just seemed like so so distant so far off. It's a it's at the top of the mountain and you can't even see the mountain to the of the mountain yet. So that's interesting to me. 'cause wouldn't you you're that far off. Are you confident now. Do you think your like how do you feel about yourself and your heading now you like. Are you confident person. Are you do you struggle without like believing now. Or how do you feel about this fun. What do you want to say to our first responders in Wheeling, You know, you know you have an opportunity and you're the chief and you guys do a great job defending everything. What does this mean in the spotlight mean to you and the men and women of the police department? Well, First of all, I appreciate you recognizing us and give us the opportunity to you know, to shine in the spotlight as you say. I think the men and women in the Wheeling Police Department feel that reflect our community. They have the community values. They work hard. They're proud. They're well trained, and it's going to be recognized. And then also, you know, with the business and wheeling and as you're doing is you're you're purchasing. The national issues here in Wheeling Residents support us. We support our residents. You know, we're not standing there, looking inside the walls. We looked outside the walls. We take care of our residents and anybody who passes for wheeling even if they choose to go through a red light once. Well, everybody's got that shot in what again? Milwaukee and Dundee. "Reston and 44. In Washington at 7 11. Police arrested two more people this weekend their security checkpoints in Washington 22 year old Guy Berry of Gordon's Ville Virginia, is charged with carrying a pistol without a license, possession of a large capacity, ammunition clip and unregistered ammunition. Ah 63 year old Connecticut woman was arrested yesterday morning She showed police a military challenge coin and claim to be a police officer. She's charged with Impersonating a law enforcement officer and fleeing police. The man who authorities say trying to get through a capital security checkpoint on Friday with a gun and hundreds of rounds of ammunition is facing serious charges. Leslie Allen Bueller a front row Virginia tried to drive through a police checkpoint in his truck when he was stopped by U. S Capitol police court documents. That dealer showed a non government issued inauguration credential near North Capitol and E Street Northeast. Police say dealer had a pistol and 500 rounds of ammunition during the search. Police say an officer noticed his pickup have multiple stickers on it with firearm based quotes, including assault life, and if they come for your guns, give him your bullets first and an interview with NBC Washington dealer said he got lost heading to a security job and was looking to ask for directions when police stopped him. Everything that I've done every job that shows it has been there to protect people as much as possible. I don't want to be amazing and Maybe that revolts of YouTube. The news Getting around downtown D C is nearly impossible, and restrictions are only going to get tighter. W T. O P s national security correspondent Jake Jake Green joined W T. O P s John Doman on Skype to break down What's happening? They're actually four reasons for so much security won the inaugural. They want to make sure That there is a peaceful transfer of power from President Trump to President elect Biden. And we have to remember not only are their domestic concerns but as a regular thing on a regular basis. Whenever there's an inaugural, they're always international concerns, so the inauguration is first. Secondly, the capital riot is still fresh in everyone's minds, especially law enforcement, and they want to make sure they send the message that this will never happen again. And then there's significant intelligence as you mentioned about eminent threats, and they want to deal with that. They have to make sure that if there are threats that they won't come to anything, and the fourth thing is sending a message to those that are sitting on the fence, perhaps looking at everything and possibly thinking about planning something for the future, and the message is, don't do it because if you do, this is what you will get. There are a lot of local agencies on age a lot of federal agencies on edge. What of a bracing for today? Intelligence reports that we've seen and law enforcement have talked to us about about this as well that there are almost 20 distinct events that are being planned, at least on social media or in other chat rooms and other sources of against extremist conversation in Washington by militant groups between today. And the inauguration, and they're after many more planned nationwide, so that's what they're planning for the possibility that there might be these protests and what they're looking at is the fact that some of these protests will none of them really have a shadow of a chance of being successful because of all of the overwhelming overwhelming support and personnel there, But there may be some who are looking to make unexamined of themselves for its suicidal but it would be a message to comrades. That they hope would embolden them. Is the open nature of the capital and much of downtown D C. Ever going to come back again, or are things changing for good here? So a couple of people I've spoken to from the law enforcement community, both in contingent in the law enforcement community now and person who is retired, they say, we can expect some level of this. To stay in place for a while. Not all 20,000 troops. Not all this fencing, but we should expect a high degree of security for the short term, at least until the temperature in the nation is lowered a little bit and perhaps even until after that report, or at least investigation that the House is launched with General Honore to get to the bottom of what happened at the Capitol. Riot, GOP national security correspondent J. J. Green on Skype It's 7 15 sports at 15 and 45, powered by Red River technology decisions aren't black and white..

I would say that that jake is like i think like in one thousand nine hundred seventeen when you're watching the main character walk through those trenches and you're just watching all these people doing and reacting to different things in those trenches i you could. You could literally spend hours days watching those scenes. And i still don't think that you would get everything out of that movie. There's still so much more going on in that movie. When you're like when the characters walking through those trenches all those characters are going through different every every character would like have their own movie in my opinion in that movie within that. It's it's it's so fucking god. Yeah i agree. It's it's just such a masterful level of set design to. I like we did set design of the year. It would probably go to nine nineteen seventeen. I've just never seen anything like it. My first runner up is going to be christopher nolan for tenet I mean here's a director that just does not give a fuck what the masses want or what. The mass distinct when it comes to how he's gonna make his movies. I mean he he never really has like. He's not gonna about trends. He's not gonna make dialogue easier for you to fuck you here. He you know he does not give a fuck and sometimes. I think we're rewarded for that. And i think tenant is one of those cases this movie. Just i'm not the biggest nolan fan. I never have been this movie. Just really fucking knocked my socks off. It was just fucking unbelievable. And honestly i never really had like yes. The sound is garbled and yes. It's it's hard to hear what people are saying at times but it never once like distracted me from what i was seeing or made it hard to understand what i was seeing. I always could follow what was going on very well in this movie. So that was the complaint. I really didn't understand. Until after the fact and i saw everyone everyone complaining about it but yeah i mean he really had to plot out so much direct this movie when it came to what was going on now. I don't wanna get into spoilers. But you know you've got things moving this way things moving that way and it was just a masterclass of you know storyboarding when it came to figuring high is going to direct all this stuff and i pulled it off one hundred percent. I wanna see. Christopher nolan tracked porno Shit going backwards myself. When i watch you might as well be. Christopher nolan a reverse cream pie. I first hot biscuit says. I'm the christopher nolan of my own. Poor mad you tend to make sure jake jake is. The master of his domain seinfeld honorable mentions for director of the year. It's the seal of the president of the United States of America the presidential seal look similar with slight differences to the great seal of the United States the official symbol. That's impressed upon official documents such as treaties and commissions the precise design of the presidential seal was detailed an executive order ninety-six forty-six issued in October of Nineteen forty-five by President Harry S Truman. It's specified that the seal depict an American Eagle that's holding ending an olive branch in its right Talon and a bundle of thirteen arrows to symbolize the original thirteen states and it's left while clutching in it's big a white scroll inscribed with the motto Eh Pluribus Unum Latin for out of many one behind and above the Eagle. US presidents decided that like the British monarch. They needed their own personal coat of arms as well. We spoke by email with Matthew Castello senior historian for the White House Historical Association. He said that the great seal quote was the official symbol of the United States federal government not the office of the Presidency Eh as such some president simply used the great seal while others thought that the president should have their own distinct seal. Whatever flourishes appeal to them James K polk for example used his own seal on the proclamation of war against against Mexico in eighteen forty six Millard fillmore came up with his own slightly different version which he sent to Maryland Postmaster engraver Edward Stabler to make in eighteen fifty Lincoln used a personalized seal as well. A presidential seal didn't actually appear on an invitation to an event until eighteen seventy seven Kevin according to Authors Patterson and Dougal President Rutherford B Hayes who was hosting a dinner honoring Russian Grand Duke Alexis Alexandrovich made the invites look fancier zero by placing them with a seal that featured an arc of clouds raise and stars between the Eagles wingtips but the Haze Eagle was thinner in scrawny than today's robust looking eagle and its head turned toward the bundle of arrows rather than toward the olive branch in Nineteen to President Theodore Roosevelt ordered yet another other presidential seal to be installed on the floor of the White House entrance hall. He commissioned a french-american Sculptor Philip Martigny to create a new one Martigny drew on the Hayes design fine but added a few changes including engraving the phrase the seal of the President of the United States in that circular border Truman who didn't like Martin. He's work had removed emplaced elsewhere in the White House during World War Two President Franklin Roosevelt who was fascinated with insignia asked experts to redesign the presidential seal they came up with the idea of adding ring of stars to represent.
