"All get injured blocking shots. Or it just goes chaotically off the rails right away because he's like benching good players, to prove a point about it. Well, he can't do that because there are no good players. And those that are defensively responsible and connecting. His top line is Kevin Hayes, Travis connect acne and Scotland. And they're all Kevin Hayes is really fun to watch. So I'm really hoping he has a full healthy season. Yeah, he didn't look great. He looked like a guy. But he is super fun. And super fun too. I like Lawton. But yeah, I like farabi like frost. Yeah. I thought frost had a really good game. And a bit of a chaotic frost outside of what he did. Saturday. Right. I shouldn't say last night because when is this Monday? Yeah, yeah. Anyway, I think the flyers suck. But tortorella, you never want to face a tortorella team early in the season. I felt like we saw a lot of that on Saturday. Afternoon in Philly, let's keep moving. Okay. Next on our list, the Montreal Canadiens pass. I mean, I was at the highest on them at 25. I had them 27th, so I was the highest on. I really enjoy watching coffee and Suzuki together. Yeah. Like I will tune in just to see that. Me too. I think the forward group is like has like enough interest there for me. Obviously the blue line is like incredibly young and they're going to make a ton of mistakes, but I think it's fine from an entertainment perspective. The only Canadians I've seen this year is in their opening game, it's the leafs and I heard you Shana talk about caulfield and he looks fantastic. Everything that we hope he'd be. Yeah, he's a much different player than he was at the start of last season. He was he was doing it all out there. There's just a few things like I was thinking about it and I was like, there's just enough. First of all, I'm like completely out on the haves being part of the bedard sweeps. I think they absolutely do not belong in a tier with the teams we talked about to open this. I think they probably should. Oh, from their aspirations this season, what they want to do, tactically. Or strategically, what should management be going for? Probably that. I just think there's no chance they're going to be. Did you see that defense? I did. I did, but there's still like, you watch those the coyotes and completely different thing than it is where it's like, oh, and now the Montreal fourth lines on and it's Jake Evans and Mike Hoffman and you're like, okay, those guys are like at least NHL players. Anyway, Jake Evans certainly is. The habs have just enough stuff. That I like black eye. Corey Schumer. Well, the blue line's working progress. But Mike Matheson is going to come back at some point. And then you're going to have an and a feature or a bug. Well, for winning or for watchability. Fair enough. It's absolutely a feature for watchability. At the end of the day is a 6 foot three guy who's a top ten straight line skater in hockey. Defenseman mikheyev. It's fun. One thing I would like to see a little bit more of is, well, it's very clear that Martin St.

"Results roll in from Virginia and were expecting some numbers here in the next little while, maybe half hour or so from D.C. as the polls closed 11 minutes ago. Take your live again to Capitol Hill, WTO's Mitchell Miller, focusing on Virginia for starters, Mitch, we know which Republican will face second district Virginia congresswoman Elaine luria, The Associated Press calling it for state senator Jen kiggins. Your thoughts about this race for November as luria is considered quite vulnerable. I think this will be one of the most closely watched races in the country, frankly, because Republicans are really counting on beating a lot of Democrats and retaking the house. They believe that they can retake as many as 30, maybe even 40 seats on the Republican side. And this is the one of them that they want to pick off. Lane luria, while a strong candidate is in a vulnerable district because it has been redistricted. Mainly covers around the Virginia Beach area, and these two candidates match up really well. They have very similar backgrounds. This is a district that traditionally has people with military backgrounds. Elaine luria is a navy veteran, a state senator Jen kiggins is a former navy helicopter pilot. She has emphasized health issues during her campaign. I think this is going to be a very, very tight race and Elaine luria will probably have her hands full with this one. So you're referring to a tight race in November, we currently have a tight race even at this hour in Virginia's 7th district for the Republican nomination to see who will square off against Abigail spanberger. This one is super tight as Mike has alluded to. You have among the people in the top Echelon there in the Republican side on the 7th district, Bryce Reeves, the state senator from spottsylvania county. Yes Li Vega, another Republican who is a Prince William county supervisor, who is also had a law enforcement background. And then there's army veteran Derek Anderson. He is one of the most conservative of the group. He is one of a few Republicans that actually pushed for an audit of the presidential election. He has really tried to align himself with former president Trump. Bryce Reeves also excuse me, Bryce Reeves has also done that. We'll have to see where this one shakes out all of them are around 20%. So this could be a long night in that 7th district GOP primary. Sorry to leave you just a few seconds, but heading all the way down to Georgia, what kind of night is it shaping up to be for Trump endorsed Republicans? Just real quickly, a couple of setbacks for former president Trump, he had endorsed 6 district congressmen congressional candidate Jake Evans, Jake Evans, projected to lose by the cook political reports, David wasserman, saying that rich McCormick will win that race and then in the other house primary Mike Collins projected to beat Vernon Jones former state lawmaker also backed by former president Trump. By the way, this is the seat that Jody heist, the congressman from the congressman from Georgia, left to run for Secretary of State against Brad raffensperger, with Trump's blessing, raffensperger, beat him in the GOP race, and now it looks like raffensperger will take on Democrat B win. She won her race as we reported earlier for Secretary of State nomination in Georgia. A lot of things happening in Georgia, but as one person stated on Twitter tonight that Georgia seems to be kryptonite for former president Trump. Mitchell Miller live on Capitol Hill for WTO, we are of course are closely watching D.C. and Virginia election results right within our area tonight. Stay with us here. Your election source. I'm rich duro is your chief communications

"Prices hit a new high watermark topping $400,000. National association of realtors has existing home sales fell 3.4%. A strong Dan Wall Street, the Dow was up 641 points. You're listening to NPR. From WAB news in Atlanta, good afternoon. I'm Jim burris. Our time now is 5 O four. It's runoff election day in Georgia as voters are heading back to the polls to vote for some key races WAB politics reporter wrote valley looks at how this election day could be a limits test for democratic and Republican heavyweights. There are four state wide races on the democratic primary runoff ballot. Democratic nominee for governor Stacey Abrams has gotten involved in three of those races endorsing Charlie Bailey over kwanzaa hall for lieutenant governor B win over D Dawkins Hegel in the runoff for Secretary of State and William Bodhi over Nicole horne for labor commissioner. Abrams is not endorsed either candidate in the democratic runoff for insurance commissioner. This could be a test of the Abrams machine in what is expected to be light voter turnout. On the Republican side, the major action locally is in the congressional runoffs. In the 6th congressional rich McCormick faces Jake Evans, Evans is endorsed by former president Donald Trump in a district that runs from northeast Cobb and Fulton up to foresight and Dawson counties. In the tenth congressional former president Trump is backing former democratic state representative and decap CEO Vernon Jones over Mike Collins. Meanwhile, Collins has picked up the endorsement of governor Brian Kemp, the tenth district runs from the eastern suburbs of Atlanta and heads toward Augusta and includes Athens. Trump endorsed candidates have not done well in Georgia this year as two of his statewide endorsed candidates won in May while four lost, polls in Georgia closed tonight at 7, raul valley WAB news. And turnout is reported low across the region, but that did not stop Raymond cow from getting to morningside baptist church to cast a ballot. I mean right now as we speak, we're hearing the trials on January 6th and the attack on democracy and all that. So I think that it's important that people, especially people like me, young people come out and cast their votes, especially in a primary runoff that usually doesn't Garner as much political attention. And as raul mentioned, polls close at 7 but Fulton county elections officials say the welcome all park community center will stay open later for voters because of a gas leak, the city of South Fulton fire rescue had to evacuate the center shortly after 10 a.m.

Today is a officially halloween. so happy. halloween everyone or happy. Belated all wean. If you're listening to this. After october thirty first. We'll do this episode. We are going to be sharing some strange tragic funny true crime stories. That are all connected to halloween in some way sharon. Why don't you start us off with a story that has a link to who else rob zombie aright. This story is titled killer confessed film by rob zombie. Made him kill. I have to give trigger warnings here for details of gun violence. This story comes from the daily mail. Jake evans was only seventeen years old when he killed his mother and sister. Why did he commit these horrific acts of murder. He told police that. Rob zombies movie. Halloween inspired him in a four page. Confession jake evans talked about how he killed his mother jamie evans aged forty eight and sister mallory age fifteen inside of their home on october. Third two thousand. Twelve and the affluent neighborhood of elato texas just hours after the murders. He talked to authorities about the movie and how he had watched it three times. Leading up to the slayings evans wrote quote. My plan was to kill my sister and my mom at my house and then go over to my grandparents and kill my oldest sister. Emily and my two grandparents and quote authorities said that his father was out of town at the time of the murders evans. Who home school said. He argued with his fifteen year. Old sister mallory that day after she made a racist comment and he felt his family. We're becoming the people that he hated. He said the people who are racist bullies and who are full of themselves are the really evil ones and it amazes me because those three qualities are extremely common today. I was very sad. Because i felt like my own family. Were becoming the people. i hate. Just my own interjection here. I totally understand why he saying that. There's ever any excuse to commit murder. But i i hear you. And i don't think you're alone and you know. Unfortunately it didn't seem like he had anyone to talk to you about these feelings. Yeah and the fact that it's from two thousand twelve. I mean obviously right problems. This is have always been going on but you know even more today especially like within the last five years. I feel like everyone's friends and family that were closet. Racists braver like they totally embraced their hatred and let their feelings be no and so like this is still extremely relevant so absolutely yes never any excuse for acts of islands or murder area agreed according to a statement after hitting golf balls running errands with his grandmother and watching television at home evans put a knife in his pocket and thought about killing mallory but instead he decided to kill his mother and younger sister with a gun stolen from his grandfather so they wouldn't feel pain in his statement he said i then spent probably over an hour walking nervously around the house thinking how life will never be the same and how i would not receive them again..

"Doesn't make sense however contin emmy could help carolina after they lost. We're in fogel weren't volvo's integral piece. That tot nine right is a good part of their third line. I believe it was. He was on so you know. I lost him. The ethan bear trade essentially got a younger and better player however that cat his still super high and it just leaves montreal the cluster. Fuck down the middle. I mean like who they have. They have suzuki jake evans. I need to look at their daily their daily face off their line combinations because shit they have. who have they have suzuki right suzuki. Sorry i'm no. I'm looking up to okay yesterday. Sorry so they yes. Zouqi jake evans magic paquette. They got down in the center right now. If cockney emmy that goes to carolina who are you putting in there you go there. Goes your center tough. You know because you want to pay the five point five. La they're going to be trying to reach for. Casey says he has no kidding. But yeah i mean what else. Can they do like this. This lease this team. Who's already going to struggle to make the playoffs and the tough atlantic division this year a team without any center up. They have nothing. Now what are they gonna do. They have to do something. Because you can't go into the into the regular season with your first sciences. Yuki second-line jake evans third-line cedric pikit. Maybe jonathan drains screws over to the center on second line. The mike hoffman screwed up. But maybe you can make a work after durant comes back. But we don't even know if you're coming back so you know what. I mean like a line of my kaufman. Jonathan brennan gallagher. That'd be fine. that'd be good but like are no kendra. Actually play center isn't really center much recently drew. You know a. It's a tough thing and and this offer sheet from carolina really screwed up the montreal canadians. I think any hope to make the playoffs this season. I think yeah. I mean they made it on a whim. They may then. They made the finals on a fantastic cinderella story. Carry price got hot at the right time. and i. there's no repeat incite especially if this deal goes through know exactly i. I just don't see it happening. Hundred percent hundred percent. I agree with everything that you said. So let's get into some talk regarding this offer sheet okay. I'm glad that there's a a touch. It could this offer sheet. Meaning offer sheet from montreal. Pederson cap situation really looks like so probably not because anything under seven million dollars without a doubt would be matched without one hundred percent. Doubt i mean even more than that would be matched figure out a way. I mean patterson's not gonna leave but you could potentially royally fuck that can You know the vancouver knox Do they want to get into that whole mess again after. What just happened to them. Now you know. Jim benning jet black jim betting maybe it will find a way to get some revenge next season so special. Mix zucchini. i would like to think they're going to stay away from that type of business But it could be nice. Could be interesting. Well so yes so. I'm in the same boat. I think that they wouldn't do that because one they're at risk from another offer sheet especially with allison and romanov sukey those players..

Mentioned seattle do. What do you think of the seahawks trade. you remember. Sidney jones remember sidney jones at the university of washington and i remember liking sidney jones as a prospect. Has he played a ton in jacksonville. You'll have to team starts over four years. Yeah so i'm not sure. That's a step in starter for you. Cut trey flowers. Are they well. But i mean i guess oh okay i'm just looking zones. Thirteen now jones certain philly. I mean i remember like in those washington corners back in the day and six foot one and eighty okay. He's dj read is the likely star. Well i mean read played so well last year at the end of the year. What a waiver claim from san for. I loved how tenacious he well not the biggest guy remember. We talked about The seattle corner was always. You know the big tall physical press. Richard sherman Style or. remember the cfl around absolutely when they won the super bowl You know. I'm not sure this guy's it but Read you know. Read was terrific last year when they brought him on Powers always seemed like he was. The guy had the tools. But it's never there was just a some missing out with flowers. But i still thought he could be a serviceable contributor. Just getting back to the haves and in knockin emmy so their second line center blake. Jake evans had some nice moments in the stanley cup. Playoff run but can't do is checking center. Cedric podcasts again. There i don't even know some of these other guys like they've barely touched the nhl. They have to go get somebody. They have to use their their draft capital. And i appreciate their. They could absorb this. He's been told ryan paling The former first round pick Would be a possibility when he was drafted. He was Third line center just not not not exposed enough for a top six role. I wanna know where this cap spaces. Well he again. When you're on cap friendly or pedia understand that some of that for seven defensemen they will count some of the They they can sometimes count more than twenty three twelve fours and seven defense movement. I got to where the money. Yeah now was somebody going well. Weber of course is going on injured. Drake young get your l. ti. They're they're already over. That's a big one. "And can you do it. And the people in that organization. Certainly do congratulations campbell to the montreal canadians. The price weber press conference was interesting specifically carey price. Tried to say the difference was. I didn't play well enough. Early on and weber. Cut him off and said i disagree. I don't think that's the case at all to be honest. I think that We weren't good enough in front of kerry. There were i mean. Give them credit there. Heck of a team. They're here for a reason and They were they were better than us in the end even before it got to the press conference i i saw something unique tonight and that is the. I didn't see the shots on the bench of webber with tears in his eyes at the end of the game. But i saw him on the ice and while tampa was celebrating i saw guys go over to him was probably about half the team and console them and that i don't recall seeing that before. Maybe it's happened. Jeff but i really noticed it. You don't see that. Gallagher had a shift late in the game where he was next to the tampa and that and he pulled something. Oh that looks so painful. Oh my god came back to the bench. He swore and you just do the he was dying right. And these are some of your your guys and you know for weber to try to ease it up so price didn't have to eat it all. Yeah i mean. I got told this week that last year mark berge van told his staff after they beat pittsburgh and loss to philly. I have a team that i think if it gets into the playoffs will be tough out. And i'm going to double down on that and it was close. I mean they lurch towards the end of the regular season you know. They were down three one at toronto and should have been out but he won is bad and the thing about that. I'm wondering now jeff is. I'm curious to see where they kind of go from here you know. Can you keep doing that every year. I mean coffee is going to have a bigger role is going to have an interesting choice about who to protect and things like that too but you know that was berge ovens bat any one with it and now with the division switching again next year does he make the same bet right because let's not forget he's going into a division. Now that will include tampa will include boston and will include a very much improved. Florida panthers squad plus toronto. Yeah that's gonna be. That's a tough nowhere. The arwa fans i know. Listen the ottawa fans. They're going to have big expectations. I know they're thinking they're going to push for a playoff spot and they might and they might the ottawa. Senators might just do that okay. So what becomes the questions here. Then i mean for me. One of the questions about the montreal. Canadians is filipino. And is he back because in these playoffs he was outstanding. Elliot i expect a bourbon will try again just on the same page. There was an attempt made at the beginning of the season. I believe yeah and they were about. They were somewhere around half a million to seven hundred fifty thousand apart That was the spread and it affected to know early in the year and finally he got his legs under him and no he didn't score a ton but he played a ton if you take a look at it. He led montreal's forwards in ice time in the play offs and he had one goal. And i think that's the first time that's happened since i think two thousand six. I have the note somewhere. But i think that's how long it's been and i'm sure he's gonna try. Berge is gonna try but he made himself a lot of money he did the no eighteen fifty six. He beat suzuki by a second. Yeah and he had one goal. That's i wanted to go next nick. Suzuki did we see the emergence of the next big number one center for the montreal canadians. Oh yeah no question about it. Look he's gonna take an even bigger role coffee. It's gonna take an even bigger role. It's obvious to that. The coach really trust. Jake evans right. Yes like he's he's ducharme security blanket. Which makes it even more challenging. Probably to keep denault. Because eventually you're going to have to sign that's three centers in not even mentioning kotkin. Yeah me and you've gotta sign suzuki only get to cut. Can you hear thac. it's really tricky. But the other thing too for me is who are they gonna protect. Are they going to protect four defensemen like they rode their top four as we saw five and six. They didn't play together. And even strength they would rotate one of the other four guys. So is montreal gonna leave one of those guys on protected or they're going to make a deal so they can do that. It's going to be interesting. I think seattle is getting a lot of deals right now. You can get a lot of offers. Mean david poile talked about you know. That's why we moved. Viktor arvidsson because you know seattle essentially said you know if you leave him if you leave him available were taking them so we thought we'd trade him and get something for them and would like to do a deal to make sure that We don't lose other players That we don't wanna lose just to close on montreal. I don't think the north division was anywhere near as bad as people make it out to be. I think it was different. They beat vegas and they handled vegas as that series got going. They were better than vegas was significantly as that continued. And if you look at the ratings in the states right now. I think montreal being in the cop and the numbers not being great is a major reason why we're not seeing a canadian division. Next year i just don't think they wanna gift wrap a canadian team into the final four as they start a new tv deal. But you know. I mean the canadians man. They they fought and they scrapped and they clawed for every inch they got. I'm curious how much a whole year of caufield changes their offense. That's the thing that i don't think they had was. You know. they played a great team game. They played tough but they didn't have the game. Breakers that tampa had and caufield shows obvious ability. I'm curious yellow. Whole season of them. Changes what they think they near. Don't need offensively. You think they have enough to get back like we've seen this before teams that just sort of that. Get there but can't stay there like we said this. I mean this is. This is the story of sports right. It's harder to stay there than to get there. Getting there is one thing but staying. There is so tough it is so so hard to win. I wonder if the emergence of players like suzuki and the emergence of players like caufield makes it significantly easier for the montreal canes. I wonder sort of what type of effect that has on this hab steam. Because let's face it. Let's face it like shea weber's almost inconsolable..

So Alex corn, another Do go for him. And so the lightning going with the same lineup that we've seen since Game two. And Matthew Joseph has been really impactful. Coming in on that line with Tyler Johnson and Tom Maroon. We'll see if Matthew Joseph has another solid game tonight. Ross Colton will continue to play on the line with Anthony Cirelli and Steven Stamkos sympathy Canadians. They made a bunch of changes going to Game four, and they won and those changes really worked Romanov score. Jake Evans had an assist. Anderson moved down to the line with Suzuki Caufield had two goals, including the winner in overtime, so not surprisingly, same lineup for the Canadians with the same lineup configurations on their their forward units. "Is for sure. And then that guy Anderson was Johnny on the spot just 58 seconds. After the four minute penalty kill, and it was all over, But the celebrating in French Romanov had it For a moment. Coleman took it back, tried to get it back to board. But it's knocked away and off to the races as Anderson Anderson into the Tampa Bay zone, wants to cut to the front of it and got it right to the top of the priest. Many store Josh Anderson got to it and Montreal is still alive, further have killed off all five Tampa power plays to get the W and right after the game, Anderson said. His guys were So confident they were already packed for another trip back to Florida. We didn't want to end it tonight in front of her fans. Um, no, We're we expect to go to camp tomorrow. Um, I think everybody in that locker room dead and No pack their bags this afternoon. Just had that feeling that we were gonna win tonight and give ourselves a chance. You don't go there and take care of business and come home in front of our fans. So, um, you know, we're in a good position now. Anderson was then asked about the lineup changes that really panned out for coach Dominique Ducharme club, including a big playoff goal by rookie defenseman Alexander Romanoff. We have depth in this team all year long. And, um, you know when you're when you're down three Nothing in the series. You're just looking to make adjustments and make the team better. And I thought we had a pretty good game tonight. Obviously, there is some turnovers in the first period and everything like that. But you know, we all stuck together and Believes in each other and coached the sharp stress that resiliency as his club's middle name. For me, it's not surprising. We've been through a lot, and we talked about it, and that's another challenge. We have Tonight. You know, we play. The hard was not perfect, but you know, we got, uh, we still feel that we can be better, and we'll do that in temper. We won't go easy. That's for sure. And a charm went with a new defensive pairing Romanoff and Brett Kulak in Game four, along with sitting the impressive kid forward just very cock in the Emmy for Jake Evans, who assisted Romanov's third period goal, and the coach was asked yesterday if he'll be sticking with the same light up. I mean, we always look at the every game as being a different game, but obviously those guys did a good job. So, uh, no, there's a good chance that we're going to be going back with the same lineup, but At the same time, we'll see what happened. Uh, tonight and tomorrow and anything can happen Also, you know, sometimes we get surprised. And, uh, but so far, like I said, we like what the guys uh, that came into the lineup will be broadened. We should see them tomorrow. Strange status. The Lightning are now Oh, and four and overtime games during these playoffs, and head coach Jon Cooper doesn't have an answer for why Maybe it's all even and out. It is kind of strange, cause we've given up some early ones, too. I'd like in in the first five minutes and, uh, frustrating, but I don't look at it at all. We didn't win the game in overtime. How did we get to overtime? And We had ample chances to put this one away, and we didn't and you eventually, if you let a team hanging around enough or long enough, they may get you in tonight. They did. Uh, so I'm not worried about that over time thing that over time things special teams can never be overstated enough. As specifically in the post season and in the Cup final and Bolts defenseman Victor had been gives credit to the Montreal penalty killers for his club going over five with the extra man. Yeah, I had some issues, but once.

"Josh Anderson got it done at 15 39 of the first in Montreal has a one Nothing lead the first time they have lead in this series. You know, I was saying it right before that goal, wondering if Ducharme might change your lines back to what he had because they were getting nothing like turnover behind the Net by Vasilevskiy and Jake Evans, just up Half step away from making it two to nothing. Andrei Vasilevskiy has not looked very sure of himself in the last 60 seconds of this hockey game. Now it's Evans turns on the Jets through the neutral zone on left wing into the Tampa Bay Zone, got it to the net, and it's angled off the stick by vasilevskiy to the corner. 3.5 to play opening period. Brayden point lobs it back into the Montreal zone and mixes it up with Evans as Weber spins it around the boards and I believe we got coincidental minors here Evans and Brayden Point They came together inside the Montreal blue line about 10 ft. Inside the blue line. And they came together. They don't stop one another one another. They pushed each other. They cross checked each other. They punched each other. And then the whistle blew and they both thought of the penalty box. 16 33 times of the penalties. Age, get roughing minors. That is, I would think a trade that Dominique Ducharme will take all night long. Sure, heavens. Oh, yeah, for breaking point. No question about that. And that goal has given Montreal the Canadians a little bit more jump. Only just, you know, right? I mean, they just they were just wondering You know, for the first almost 15 minutes. They're thinking Tampa Bay's got to have too many men on the because every time we get.

"That Celeski give Perry All right. The Lightning win the D Zone faceoff. Gord, one at Coleman clears important final four minutes in the first year. The Canadians have had very little going in the first, but now they got the spark from the goal at center ice Atari like and dumps it in the lost it by the just knocked it away from Evans. It looked like he was gonna have an open net. Just said always good row, right When Eric turn AC Sirnak rips it in. I stopped by the march on it to Romanov in the near corner of middle. Jake Evans. Amazing what confidence does for you. Here's Evans busting into the lightning zone, Left circle, centering feed in on Vasilevskiy knocks it away and plot grabs. Lot bounces for Brandon Point Point to center ice backhands it in Canadians look like a different team since the goal. Shea Weber winds the puck around the near side. We have a whistle here, he's going to call Evans and point to work I saw, Yeah. They were Evans wouldn't stop. It was at the blue line, and he pushes him and pushes them again on monetary Rafi. Interesting. They decided to call that Phil interference in Russian. That role point. Fascinating, Mr Handsome Daddy got to just quick enough away from Evans. Evans. One goal in the playoffs came into play in which he was injured against limping into an empty net, and he almost had another goal into an empty nap. At that time, it was Goalie on the ice. Yeah. Alright. So full on four hockey for the next two minutes, no point available for the lightning. China was thrown out of the draw against Cirelli. So Suzuki and Sara Lee to the left of Carey Price. "We are moments away from tonight's pot drop as we get ready for lightning to strike. The Lightning, hoping to win their second consecutive Stanley Cup. They're up 30 in this best of seven series against the Canadians. Going to talk about it a little bit more Greg Llanelli with you and to do that, the guys who were calling the game Dave Michigan in the Hall of Famer Phil Esposito filled lighting up 30 in this series in your opinion. What's allowed them to get to this point against Montreal? Well, the turnovers that they've had Um Montreal didn't capitalize as much as some of the other teams that we've seen over the years over this year specifically And I thought that made a big difference. And and Tyler Johnson and Maroon And Matthew Joseph, I thought were terrific. The other night played a great game and boy when you get your fourth line, given two goals, that's that's a good sign a real good sign. So all in all of taken continue to do this. We can maybe wrap it up tonight. Dave. We talked about it on the show a bit today on power lunch, but it's going to be curious. The Canadians switching some things up in terms of personnel and line combinations and Scoring first has been a big deal in this series, and I'm sure that's something that the Canadians want to do tonight. Well, Dominique Ducharme obviously felt he had to do something, and some of it was maybe he he liked Jake Evans. Game one, as did we fell, thought he played well, and he was in for Armenia, who was able to come back for Game two. So Evan sat out, but Cocky Niemi was was essentially benched in the third period of Game three. So Evans replaces him and they reconfigured the lines a little bit. We'll see if that sparks them off offensively. And then he really he brought into defenseman. I think Eric Guster since a really good offensive defenseman, But I'm not sure that he is as good as a skater as Kulak, who is replacing right, one of the defenseman. And then they have this young Russian defenseman Alexander Romanov, former second round pick who basically played the whole regular season with Montreal, but he's a younger player, but he has tremendous upside and he's a pretty dynamic player. So Ducharme is like, you know what? We're going for it we're putting in these two guys who can skate from the blue line. I don't know that they're going to play a lot. The top four tend to play the most. Yeah. But why not? If you're down oath, why not? And if if they get a power play Romanov will be one of the guys. Gustafson was. You know the other guy in the power play with With Webber. And then Petrie comes on the second unit, but, uh they were using Gustafsson a lot so Romanov will take his place. On that if they get power plays and to tell you the truth, folks, if you think about it You're lucky if you get a couple of power place. There may be three would be a lot unless the referees decide tonight that they're going to call things. Yeah, so and but the odds are they aren't Where how to? Those are good odds. Yeah, we'll fill one of the the reasons the odds are pretty good. I think for the lightning, we saw Tyler Johnson have himself a big game. That really is a situation where he just is more comfortable at center. Isn't that he isn't wing. I couldn't I couldn't agree more. He just is. He? He seems to utilizes speed more. At center. You know what I like that second goal. He's shot and he followed up for the rebound. He followed in himself. That is something when it was doing hockey schools. I used to try to get the kids to do you shoot the puck in your head towards the net because there could be a rebound and that's a Tyler did on the second goalie scarred. And it was perfect did it perfectly. We saw earlier here It looks like Killorn is scratched. Dave and you know he's inching closer. And I guess for the lightning sick Hopefully he doesn't have to be used anymore. I think he would take that trade off. Think he would, too. But we saw Colton, you know, get Ross colts and get bumped up to the second line and fill just talked about Tyler Johnson on that fourth line. It's just It doesn't seem like there's too many weaknesses up and down that line up guys slot in Matthew Joseph comes in the last couple games. He's played really well, and I think that's what is the biggest challenge guys Montreal is facing. There just aren't many. Deficiencies in this lightning game right now. Yeah, you know, it's interesting. Fill the Cirelli stamp ghosts Colton line. It was the only line that did not have Goal. Even strength. Coleman goal was an empty now, but you know what I mean so really had an assist on the power play. But I thought maybe that was the line that had the most consistent offensive zone pressure of any of the four lines. They had a really good game. They just didn't get rewarded. Agree. It shows that Colton, can you talk about Tyler Johnson? Excelling at center. Colton can play center. You can play wing He can play with maroon and Johnson. He can play with cerulean stamp ghosts. It seems that his game as well suited to be moved up and down the line. And you know the other thing. David is really interesting because You got three guys there that are sentiment. You know, Stamkos is natural and Colton was a sentiment. I mean, they put him in the wing and he's doing great. But he's good at the draws, too..

"Not when you look at optically, you know Jake Evans cartwheeling and smashing his face on the ice. So, in that respect, you can make sense come to terms with a four game suspension. I feel like the NHL and I'm not being critical. It's just a fact. When searching for a way to suspend mark shamefully because it was such a violent hit, right? Um, and when you go through a boarding major and the Department of Player safety made sure that A number of media people myself included the night that this happened Wednesday night that we understood the breakdown of a charging penalty. You don't always have to launch or leave your feet. Distance traveled is among the factors that are considered in establishing the charging major. So as the video from the Department of Player Safety explains in detail. That was a big part of it, right. There is an injury on the play. Thank Kevin is not as significant as it appeared. I mean, Jake Evans was out. Upon contact. He was he was unconscious. Um, but they also look at the bigger picture. And I don't think that this has gotten enough play. I'm not suggesting that this was a tipping point that might have added another game to the equation. And that is, you know. Shipley was frustrated. He was borderline. Pissed off. Who's kidding. Who, Right? I mean, the game didn't go the way that they were hoping it was was gonna go. His eyes are dislike. They were so big. That whole third period. It was like they were rolling. Yeah, well and and look not not not long before that. You saw him engaged with Benny Sharratt in front of the Net. Sharon horse collars and throws him down. Probably should have got a penalty for it. They should have an offsetting minors. Put both of them the box and where you go. Instead, they pick one and it's marked chiefly and he is sour. He's sour, and that was the kind of night that he had, right corrupted a fabulous job against Mark Shea flee. The haves in general did a great job of playing well defensively but also kind of getting under the Winnipeg Jets, skin. So they factor all of that stuff in right, you know, I guess Mark Scheifele. He is trying to get back and play to prevent a goal. But where you lose me and you probably lost George Harrison Department player safety is that there's no play for park on that. You know, he doesn't He takes his one hand off the stick so that he can position himself with his shoulder to deliver again what they use an unwarranted Violent hit. That was the language, which I've never heard that in the description of suspension before from dots, so I thought it was going to be a maximum two games to be to be fair. Um, I wouldn't have been shocked if it had only been one game. So four games was a big surprise. But that's clearly message sending that can't do it anymore. Guys. "Mark comes from two hundred feet away. Jake evans in the regular season. They say it is playoff. Play again this person said to be. He's in the camp of. That's okay thirty years ago. That's not okay now. There has to be a severe penalty for him but also he said the same thing he would say if his kids play. They're young they play. He said he's going to show them the video to say this play is wrong. But when you're coming out from behind the net like that you have to have your head up and i will say the vast majority of people. I spoke to have that opinion that this is a play. We need to get out because it's too dangerous. But you still have to be aware and as hitting decreases especially during the regular season. He said it's incumbent on players to recognize especially veterans to teach younger players. This look playoffs now. This is different and things are going to happen. That don't happen to the regular season. Here's why bring it up about did evans. Just say you know screw it. This is like a block shot. I'm putting my myself in harm's way. I'm putting myself in a risky position. I remember talking once with mark test. To and i asked the test do this is when there was a rash of hitting from behind penalties in the nhl and a lot of it was players are flashing the numbers of boards and And getting hit and it's really dangerous at still is and it you cringe when you see it when it goes wrong. It's awful. It's like it's pit of your stomach when you see it. And i said why do you guys do that. And he said what do you mean what what what do we do. What and i said. Why do you turn your numbers at the boards. Like whenever you have the puck in. Someone's around you turn your number at the boards. And he started laughing and he goes. It's easy he said. Ed one of two things is going to happen one. We're going to protect the puck and keep possession or two. We're going to draw penalty. It's that simple. And i said you're willing to sacrifice like a broken neck to protect the parker draw penalty and he said yeah like very matter of factly. Yeah of course. That's what we do and that goes to your point about playoffs and how the how players change. It's not just the person who hits but it's the person also who puts themselves in a dangerous position. And i don't know whether jake evans saw torres on williams i don't know if evans ever saw armstrong on koivu i don't know but i don't think you get to the nhl without knowing where the danger areas are no matter. What era of hockey even. If it's the latest air of hockey you grow up in. You know that when you're coming around the net even if you have a blind spot. There's a chance that someone's gonna be there for a hit maybe dropping down from the blue line. Now you don't think someone's screaming from one hundred eighty feet away. That's going to run right into you. But you know that there's a chance that you're really gonna get hit there and i kind of look at this because i don't know but i just wonder if players look at those situations and say this is my version of blocking shy. It's an interesting point just as my version. Put myself in harm's way because we need this goal in game one like we don't look at it as a sacrifice from the player. I i don't know. Only jake evans knows only jake those now. I do believe that. We are talking about a different outcome. Both in terms of what happens to evans. And what kind of suspension there might or might not be shy flea plays the puck or tries to i believe from what i hear in the hearing sharply was told we would have liked to have seen you. Try to play the puck. He changes the angle of his body once he realizes he has no play instead of stopping just carries right through basically what happens. It sounds like sharply says. I don't think i had to that time player. Safety watch the video big clear by making that decision. You decided you were going to hit them. And then you're responsible for whatever outcome there is but there's no doubt in my mind because i believe shave was told this in the hearing if he makes more of an effort to play the puck Even if he collides with evans the suspension is not for us. It becomes more incidental than deliberate a couple. More things about this too virus was injured. Complete fluke play. He goes out on a stretcher. Evans goes out on a stretcher. After that happens in game. Three of the islanders series brandon carlo. It was really scary looking at him. No attempt to injure bike cal clutterbuck at you checked him into the boards. Unfortunately this headway of the boards. It was a scary thing to watch as carlos struggled to get to his feet by it. Doesn't factor in suspensions or at least it shouldn't but i do wonder if the nhl looks at this and says that's too serious injuries. We've seen in a short period of time. This is not good for us. And how much that becomes a factor in everything in what sense in how games that are called or how suspensions are meted out to hear you say well at the end of the season there was wilson pinero right and then you have the scary situation with taveras and then you have the scary situation with evans. I think you can't help. But look at it and say we can't have this every week is should it. Be a factor in suspensions. Probably not is there a human element to it. Where does. Sometimes i want her. Well you know the phrase. I'm going to reach for here. Is a game getting too fast for it to be safe. That's why the people who i know felt very strongly that they had to punish safely for this. It was all about that. It was all about speed. You know twenty or thirty years ago. You wouldn't have been able to get that much of a head of steam to hit a. You'd be interfered with along the way someone would get. Somebody would have interfered with you and also the equipment wasn't the same i all. I've mentioned this before. Dave ellett is solution. Always was if you want to get rid of injuries. Get people playing in the equipment that everybody played within the eighties. Because then you felt much as the person you were hitting but the people who felt very strongly that this had to make an example of were all about you have to warn players. That speed is the enemy as much as they are. You can't allow the problem is the. Nhl puts the accent of their game on speed. Everything is fastest game on ice fast game on ice. And it's gone from being a contact sport to a collision sport where it is guys hitting lake billiard balls. When's the last time you saw someone rubbed out another player. It doesn't happen they collide. There's no more get angle get body. Rub its collision born. And i talked with us on hockey central. Like the difference and we might be you know parsing it too much but there still is a difference between body checking and hitting hitting is a real tactic. Body checking is separating player from to force a change of possession hitting as a tactic. And i don't know where that changed. I don't know where the game change from. Physical contact is body. Checks to physical contact is hits but somewhere along the way hitting became a tactic and not just the change possession but to punish and we all kind of went okay because we did know about the effects. Now we did. Was you know show them on. Highlights with goofy music behind it with guys going but ouango keep your head up.
