"It was 9 O one, and it ended up around 9, ten, 9 O 9. Yes, 8 percentage continues to go down because teams are not throwing 99% at the net. I've sat through NHL games with NHL goalie coaches who have a role and a voice in offense and the way teams attack and the way they select their shots and watch them see guys take shots even off odd man rushes and be like, that's a turnover. We understand now how many of the shots we take have value and we don't throw pucks at the net that have no value anymore or at least it's a lot less common. So save percentage is going to go down because shot quality is going up because nobody's wasting them anymore. And we understand how to be gold tenders, how to attack. So yeah, save percentage is coming down. But anybody that judges it on the quarter poll, wait till the season's done. I wouldn't be surprised if it's kind of maybe drops, but we're talking like a point or two, not a historical people were wondering what was wrong with Andre vasilevsky to season and then he had a 9 50 percentage in December and now he's I no longer I no longer wonder. Okay, here's a question to end on. Maybe we can save this for next time, but I'm just going to pull it out. This is how it goes fast. Do you think that so young players like ten, 11, 12 year olds right now aspiring young hockey players are coming up and they're watching? The way Austin Matthew shoots the puck. We heard we've heard about how Conor medard is modeling that drag shot that he's just terrorizing. Right. Young players are coming up and watching that and practicing that on their own and trying to incorporate that into their game. Don't you feel like they advancements for shooters are going to be higher in that regard in terms of that copycat and the incorporation of those skills. Then for young goalies who are coming up and I guess you could watch what Andrew basilevsky does and say, oh, that looks cool. But it was funny. How do you incorporate that? I recently asked goalies around the league for my annual Christmas column. We usually have fun with gear because every goal I had a moment where they got something under the tree that inspired them to become a goal. It feels like every guy did. But this year I asked them what skill I wanted to change it up. I said, what skill if you could take one skill from another goalie around the league, what would it be? Having under the train in your game by Christmas night and most of them, a lot of guys still used to be prices movement was the thing, but Carrie didn't count this year because he's not playing. So I made them sort of pick a new one. And it was a lot of it was vasilevsky's power and athleticism. But then Jake Allen pointed to staircase instead. So this is just to go to your point about vast the last week. Because in his mind, the things that shishkin did to move around the crease were something that applied more to him. Like there was something that could maybe theoretically be achieved would have had to start at a real early age to get that type of ability, but what vasilevski does is just like Roth. He's a robot. He's a freak. He's just like an athletic freak.

"Really. And then you go Jake Allen so that doesn't surprise you with the habs and then you go Carter hard, that doesn't surprise you. So yeah, that says it all. I mean, it's one thing to give up a bunch of shots from the point, but to give them up in those high quality areas, that's a whole other ball game. So rokin is facing the type of quality chances that he just didn't previously. Yeah, 9 40 two, say percentage of 5 one 5 as well. I mean, yeah, I think it is only 18 games played for him so far. Which is also, I should say, I mean, part of the rise here has been, you know, they have brought them all along slowly from the perspective of like he was a star in the KHL, right? But then they come in, they already have Sami on Brahma there in place and he doesn't necessarily just get given 60, 65 games right out of the gate right that. It's kind of ease them along and then now he's the clear number one there and he's playing significantly more. And so yeah, once I think it's legit because you watch him and athletically he's such a freak like the way he goes laterally and this types of saves he makes just from an athletic spirit. I thought it was in perspective or as special as you see in the league. So I think he's legit and then kind of hell up similar to what we said about McDavid at the top. For most seasons as long as the jets allow him to be in terms of like just being at least competent enough in front of him, he's going to be in this conversation because he's, you know, he's very, very good and he's got our halibut. Yeah, he's in terms of the nice stories in the race and he's probably right up there with a guy who's battled injuries who's played in front of some really suspect poorest defense structures, it's nice to see one him getting more help and two him producing the types of results we've seen in the past. It's almost like the opposite of what's going on with John Gibson in Anaheim where these guys came up around the same time, both American, both had big seasons as young guys and certain years they've both been crushed by their defenses just not enough help and obviously in Anaheim we're seeing a team continue to let Gibson out to dry and with hellebuyck under bonus winnipegs turned it around at least to some extent. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, certainly. I think I mean, listen, he's got a 9 31 68 percentage plus 16 goal seo Bo expected, so not quite what Ilya zero has been doing, but very close, and most years would be like the clear runaway in all those categories. So yeah, I think those two guys right now are head and shoulders above everyone else for me. Let's get into, let's get into some of the fake awards. The you and I have cooked up here. I'll let you let you go first. What's one that you want to

"A second one on the Alan at some point in that game. I can't remember, but the big thing has been like the goaltending has held them in when the defense is made mistakes, right? Like guys like arbor Jack guy who have been fun to watch, even if he wasn't performing admirably, coming out of nowhere. You know, he was employed at Costco during the pandemic when he couldn't play hockey. Didn't play hockey that year. Really surprised everyone, making the team at 21 years old and beating up Zach Cassidy and was extremely funny and throwing him around like a rag doll. But scoring goals, he's getting some power play time now. Obviously defensively has lots of things to work on. But when those guys mess up, both Jake Allen and Sam have been really strong. So having that at the beginning of the year to give those guys confidence is really fun. And I think we're going to end up seeing is the fact that Mike Matheson, who's their number one defenseman, presumptively that he's been out. He's going to miss I think still 8 weeks to certain season with an abdominal injury. I'm guessing what's going to happen is he's going to come back and they're going to start losing and everyone's going to be like, oh, it's all the veterans that are wrecking things, but this just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes, where yeah, they're getting good results right now, but I think everybody knows that the top line is not going to score on. I think it's like 18 or 19% of their shots at even strength right now. 20% overall. The goal is that attitude. But the goal is as well. Jake Allen is a good player, but can get tired. San montano has been superb this year. Like absolutely superb, but I don't think he's this good. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, let's focus on the fun stuff here. Let's talk about the offense in that first line.

"But the habs were the only team with buying power in the summer of 2020. In a historic buyer's market. And signed what? One good deal, like one deal ranged well, which was the foley deal. Yeah. I mean, you know, they were the only team with both cap space and money and they were using it on Jake Allen and edmondson. And it's like, you know, great. They had playoff success. Kudos. But Tommy killing the vibes here, man. I'm just saying. That should have been a window that should have been a win. That should have been an off season to set them up for decades for a half decade of success. And they instead make the Cup final, but kind of blew it. And I still feel that way about the oilers 2021 off season, even though in the short term clearly, the moves have paid off to make them pretty formidable. Yeah. No, listen, I agree with you. I don't think we need to be like chest thumping about how Ken Holland is actually a mastermind architect because they're making Conference Finals here. But we have to keep, I think, both things in mind. The short term matters, but the opportunity cost is still through the roof. At a higher ebb than it is for, in my view, the other teams still alive. Yeah. I think that's about everything I have on the oil. I guess the only the last oilers point that I had was, I know they have a bit of a high shooting percentage right now just because they're scoring so many goals and normally you'd be like poo pooing that and being like, wow, there's no way this continues. And certainly over the course of a short playoff series, anything can happen. Like we saw last year against the jets, they had like a 6% on a percentage of McDavid on the ice. I don't think we're not betting against Connor McDavid's shooting percentage regressing dramatically against Darcy Kemper, is that what you're telling me? What I'm saying is anything can happen, but I think it can happen. It can. When I am saying what I am saying here, though, is if you look at the actual context of how they're coming across their offense, everything is flowing through McDavid Andre's item. I've been tracking these games. McDavid is 71, 5 one 5 shot assists. This postseason Chris out of the 46 and no one else on the team is 20. So. They're getting a lot of high danger chances, right? Like I think McDavid Hyman and the Mandarin are literally one, two, three, in terms of high danger chances according to natural statute right now..

"Does he want to move on? Does he want to stay? How do they rebuild with him or without him? You know, I don't think it matters right now because he hasn't shown him that he can stay healthy. And we'll wait a minute, he's just gotten to the doctor in New York again and he clearly wasn't right physically after playing for ten days. So even if he wanted to move on, it seemed wanted him to move on. No team's taking him on, not without knowing he can be healthy. And he hasn't shown, and I'm not blaming him. Like, you know, his body didn't react well to playing games. He played four games. They thought he played two months. He played four games and his body was given out on him already after a year off for a meniscus surgery, which I've had. It's like a 6 week thing. No, I'm not playing goalie. So I think they need clarity. They need to understand is Carrie going to be able to be healthy to try to play again next year. And I don't know if they'll get that answer. The doctor could conceivably say like, your knee is shot, it's never going to get better. And then, you know, you might be like, okay, well, I probably can't do it. And he goes down the road of Shea Weber, where he's not retiring, but he effectively is retired because his body is given out on him. But if he says, well, you know what? Train rehab tried again, he'll do that all summer. And then you won't know until you get to training camp. And that's a tough spot for Carey, certainly, but for the organization because they're preparing with an $11 million goaltender that they have to accommodate the potential return for without knowing that it will actually happen so they can't spend the money. They can't allocate it elsewhere. They can't count on him to be the guy and Trey Jake Allen or whatever they might want to do because they just don't know. It's a brutal spot, but I would be, I guess mostly I'm worried for Carrie because the fact that he's taken this much time off had multiple setbacks, played a few games and I gave him credit for one of the back as much as he did, but it went physically, not well, like that, that doesn't give me great confidence that he's going to get better. When I look around the Eastern Conference, I'm trying to find one team that goes so when pops on me and I'm like, that's the team, yet I don't seem to be able to find it. There's four or 5 of them and you go, they're kind of all the same. A hole here, but jeez, good. Does anybody jump out for you? And you're an old leaf guy. My nuts, or I think the leafs are pretty good. I kind of like them this year more than I have in the past..

"And we were down 6 nothing, I think, I think with like 16 minutes to go in the second period. And at one point, he had a breakaway and Jason strudwick chased him. And I think I've told this before and study is grinding, just chasing after Gabriel. And he just goes down and buries the horn, the song and starting after the game goes, we could have skated to China. And I wouldn't have fucking caught him. We could have skate, that could have been a never ending arena and I never would have even gotten close. So I wish I could get the clip of that. If you could pull up a breakaway goal against the oilers and 11 on an afternoon game. He was the man. So he went to LA and who knows if they win that he was sick and playing fucking goals in a place obscene. I mean, obviously quick he was unreal and deserve the kind of 14 talks that year. They won games two to one. So that was probably 30% of the team's goals that run. Yeah. Yeah, he was unreal. So congrats to Marian gabrich on his retirement. I'd love to. I'd love to get him on here. I'd love to have you on the show some day, man. He had the sickest whips going into LA training camp. I think really? Oh yeah, just one of those guys that had every top of the line Ferrari. Aaron. What were his career earnings? What's your guess? I would say that he's got to be 90 million. 90 million. Look it up. I'm looking to look it up. I'm going to move along. We got a couple more notes like I said before we get old time Matt Molson. Carrie price rejoined the Canadians on Monday after entering the NHL's player assistance program. 96 million. I'm pretty good at that game. You are pretty good because you're a money guy. So welcome back to the league to carry price. Hopefully he's doing good. Jake Allen, this is an interesting note biz. The first Montreal goalie not named Carrie price to record a shout out versus the red wing since Jose Theodore on January 11th, 2000 appel. So it was a long time. It is a long time. They have that. That gap, a couple more here. William Carlson of four to 6 would have broken foot for Vegas. Columbus's Patrick lined out four to 6 with an oblique strain. The thumb wash the video game. Anthony mantha had should I always have struggled this one. Shoulder surgery after Thursday's game versus Florida out indefinitely and Arizona defenseman Connor Timmons expected to miss the rest of the season with a D injury. Yeah, I think the hit was in Florida. And then somebody came in and they had to fight, but that sucks man. That was a big piece for the coyotes coming over in that Darcy temperature. We found that we're hoping turns into a top four top four guy. We need some of those types of players. Hate to see boys get hurt, but we like to make people aware in case they hadn't heard. So like we said, we got Matt Molson coming up at first. We want to let you know that this interview is brought to you by our friends at shady rays. Just because the cold weather is coming doesn't mean you put the shades away, especially when they are shady race. They look great and they work better, but the best thing might be the warranty. Replacements if shades are lost or broken for any reason. That means if you're dropping the ocean, you leave them on the golf course, anything shady rays will replace them. You try that way, you high priced shades. Yeah, good luck with that. So even with that strong of a warranty, they still managed to make unreal quality shades that just seemed to be as good as any expensive that I've ever won. The polarized lenses that look perfectly clear and they thought it just $48. Shady rays also provides ten males to fight hunger in America with every order placed, and they have donated donated over 20 million meals to date. They stand behind their product and they told that team, if anyone has a problem, they throw profit out the window and do what it takes to get it right. And again, that warranty, I mean, you lose them, you get new ones. You can not beat that. Also you get free returns and exchanges so you either love the shades or shady rays will pay to ship them back. That's it. It's simple. I've been wearing it for ages. I love them. They look great. You should get some too. You do that by using the code chiclets for 50% off two or more peers at shady raised dot com. So basically, you buy one, you get one free.

"And I think that Anderson just needed to get out of Toronto, clear his mind and I think he's going to have an incredible bounce back season, much like probably any net minor that's spent too much time in Toronto. 9 44 7 percentage biz one 75 goals against stopped 18 to 19 thus 5 times. He has been a difference in the change of scenery could be great for his career. I got it back to you. It's right. No, I watched this whole leaf scheme, Matthew's got one on him being best buddies, kinda not surprised there. And Matthews was so due. But this team is really good, man. They're going to compete, they're going to be right there. They're going to be in the playoffs with a chance to win the Stanley Cup. Really dependent on goaltending, I think, and the ability to score come playoff crunch time, but I love this team. Fetching the cough. That guy is something I was terrifying in an aha of this special connection, cocktail yummy has been playing with them. This neck ish. I don't know how to say his name. Filth, just another guy that they've kind of brought up, brought in, that's look good. I think Ethan bear has been really solid so far as slave. And I just think they play with a ton of pace. It's like one or more. We've talked to all last year. They play exactly like the way rod Brendan Moore played. So it's a deep team. Derek Stepan's on that team so it's like a veteran down on the fourth line that can kill penalties. It's just a team that's gonna be in the hunt all season long to compete for their division. And they're showing right now that they're much better team than Toronto. I think there's been times Toronto's look good tonight, but Carolina is just wore them down and got great goaltending. And the team we just mentioned before that much, you all absolutely disastrous thought. Oh and 5 out of the gate they were outscored 19 to four. They did get a 6 to one win Saturday over Detroit, but this is a broken team right now. They tied the worst start to a season for a team that went to the stealing Cup final. The previous year, unfortunately, the burg event said, quote, it's a long shot that Shea weba ever plays again. Jonathan, Jonathan Dwyane is leading a team two goals three assists 5 points and 6 games followed by parole then dvorak Suzuki. He got that big paycheck. He's got one assist caulfield one assist. This is I'm sorry going into our recording. Galga, no point yet, Jake Allen has been forced in a more of a starter's role through the Gary brace situation. One in four of the two 6 5 and a 9 O 5 going into again this recording, just a disaster for Montreal right now. It's going to get to the point maybe went where it's going to be too big to dig out of perhaps. Oh, it's they're done. They have no chance of making the playoffs. Zero. Yeah. I don't even think they did. You know what? They had a chance if carry a price was playing and playing like his usual self, yeah, 'cause he keeps she in games, but they can't score. They're missing their leader on defense. It's really shitty to hear that Bergman says Shea Weber probably will never play again. But he's been through so much battle for so long. You're not really that surprised, but I mean, Gallagher zeros on the board so far. Like you mentioned Suzuki want to assist. I said in a couple of weeks ago, they lost to know, you don't really understand what that does. It makes a center like Suzuki get all these matchups that he hadn't been dealing with prior. So it's a tough very tough sledding right now for this team. I don't really know what you hold hope on. I mean, that they dusted Detroit, which was good, but I look at that team like their power play has been pathetic before. And now they don't even have the big Sean O Webber on there. It's not like that's gonna make them any better on the man advantage. And then the goaltending without price, it's just they're a team that's just severely outmatched, almost every game they play, along with a fanbase that it's gonna get worse and worse and more the ruthless and ruthless as this goes on. So certainly if you're a Toronto Maple Leafs or Montreal Canadian fan right now you want to puke. Yeah. I think that run last year kind of provided a little bit of false hope as to what was a phony run. It wasn't a phony run. It was a phony fucking run. About Mac. They got incredible goaltending and the most timely goal scoring from guys that came out of nowhere ever. So, yeah, you just you're not going to be able to replicate that in a full 82 game season. That's why I didn't have them making playoffs. And at this point, other than that win against Detroit, where they didn't have Detroit didn't have their best player, because he couldn't even go to Canada. They pounded them, but we're not going to see much of that this year. And I guess you're only hope is that you get out of this season where you see some progression from the young guys like caulfield who, you know, these guys, all of a sudden they don't have enough guys around that are taking the microscope off of them. And then Suzuki signs this massive deal. He's got one assist so far. Yeah, is there a lot of hockey left? But guys, these kids are getting paid based on what they're projecting what they can provide. You just gotta hope that this type of season doesn't beat the wheels off of the guy's confidence moving forward to where he at least gets to close to what you ended up paying them. Because that's a lot of money coming his way. I mean, I'm all over them. They're not they're not as bad as I'm this bad. Right? You gotta think Anderson ends up getting going at some point. Caulfield's gonna score 20 goals. I believe that. So at some point, this team will get going a little bit, but I truly think that there's no chance of making playoffs. And I thought that before the season began and you saw this start. We got to see the old to foley. We got to see the old Hoffman. We're going to have to see the old. Who'd you just mention? I'm very happy though. I just went to Anderson. I'm very happy though for drew in because everyone knows what he's been through mentally and coming back and the least having some success on the score sheet. It's good to see a story like that come out of a team where there's not many good storylines right now. Well said. Well, what the are ready to pop the question or my special occasion?.

"It's like, oh, it's just repeated last year. And they're gonna go out and have someone tweet me. Jack was on a plane already to Tampa Bay. Already there. It's funny though looking at this Montreal team. Just a box scores the stats. No one is above two points that played four games. There's only two people with two points. There's no other production. Like there's a couple guys at one point and then it's nothing. It is Tyler's voice zero. It's like drew and it's the only one who's scoring for them. To run as two goals. That's the most on the team. The next is I think Chris Weidman with one. And then that's it. They have three goals. So you tell me. It's not going to score 40 goals. Everyone said he was. Which is annoying because I put him on my top NCAA players for this year. I put him above Kyle Connor. I put him above who was the other that I missed. Oh, Jacob slavin. I put I really took a big leap there and this coffee feels to put up, you know, 25 goals. And so far, nothing Nick Suzuki. Brennan Gallagher, so they are not going on to be Thomas tuttle as the actual key until he will eventually want to show up in the playoffs as he does every year, but regular season, course he got toms to charge your guy. Beautiful. I'm not surprised though. I mean, I'm surprised it's this bad, but I'm not surprised this team regressed. I think out of all the things in the Atlantic that are happening right now, I think this is the one that's probably going to be consistent throughout the years. Montreal is not going to be good. I don't know why people. I mean, again, it's a cool young core, I guess. But that's about it. I don't know. And also, they don't carry pricing net. Jake Allen. That's a big loss. So I'm not surprised by this. I don't think it'll change much. I mean, maybe they'll win a game. That'd be cool. Maybe they'll do it. But yeah, that's been the Atlantic. I mean, I don't think there's that's a lot of weird little things. A lot of teams playing a lot of hockey, and there's the bruins, so. Yes, I know. By the way, the prunes are in 7th place right now. Time to sell every pie. 7th place. What a disappointment. And so you get a disappointment, by the way, the kraken. Which the Seattle kraken. I mean, too many people had high predictions for them, but like once they I feel like we all said once they did their draft, we were like, wait a second. How's he supposed to compete? And that's how they're going to score. And I mean, honestly, the more concerning so far has been the defense. I mean, they've had some bad breakdowns that. What does that look great over there? Yeah, exactly. I saw some people were tweeting about how they should have exposed gridlock and kept losing. I'm like, have you been watching the fucking games guys? No. No, apparently not. I know it's you know, time change out the Pacific. I mean, maybe not catching some of these games, but I think they make kind of the right call there. "Canadian's no carry priced to start. We wish him and his family the best well. I wanna read a couple of things here. So i got a couple of. Dm's from people. And they said. I could read them as long as i didn't Say their names. I'm not gonna see their names but it's just a couple of people who reached out after price so you know. I thought people should know this. This is from one direct message on twitter as an average dude happily married and a great father of two. I am encouraged by kerry to seek help for the things that i struggle with that. Nobody knows about on the surface. I do everything right in life. Especially for my family's sake. This is still true. But i'm afraid to admit to the ones i love that i suffer in deep darkness when nobody is watching if not for anything and if it is all possible i would like for that man to know. His courage affected my life tonight to take similar steps. So that's one note and here is a second one also a gentleman who said you know. Please leave my name out of it as a first responder with. Ptsd seeing someone like price seeking help. Health me at least feel less stigma about being away from work. I wish i could say thanks to him and wish him well. Hopefully he'll hear this message. I don't know about montreal as a team right now. But i thought it's really important to get those messages out there. The most encouraging thing about the media conference for me. Jeff was that berge said he believed that things would be okay and better for prices family. I liked hearing that. So you know if the second part of this is that price positively impacts others. I think that's what we all wanna see right absolutely and we again we wish the best for him and his family and for other people that find themselves in his similar situation but our bubble players players that don't have the confidence that if they take time away they can come back and still have their spot. Because that's where most of us live. Elliot i agree as for the team. I honestly don't know what to make of them right now. You know price and allen. I think is one of the best duos in the league now. It's alan monta mbo in. I don't know if anyone fills is confident. You know not having weber. There is a huge presence. That's missing from that group to me. The thing that this canadians are gonna have to realize early is that i was jokingly calling them islanders light last year in the playoffs that they got daddy and they stuck to it. They can't wait for that to show up this year. They have they have to be like we talk about pittsburgh in washington like they have to start well. Montreal has to start up with that team. I identity and go from there. Because if they don't and they get off to a bad start. It's going to be tough. I don't know what to expect from them. You know they had the positive duran coming back. The concern about price no weber. I dunno players follow this as much anymore but the gm's bit of limbo is just a lot of things there. I'm looking at jeff. And i'm like i don't know what to make of all this. I don't think that changes the players. Look as much as it does when you have a coach. Who's in the last year of his contract. I think that affects the player a lot more. There's not a strong connection. I don't think between contract status of the general manager and performance on the ice other than the personnel of gm puts on the ice perhaps due to his contract status. But i i don't think the players think about it. I don't think the players think about. Oh one more one. More season Of of mark berge van and his contracts done. I think they think about that. With coaches though. Yeah i agree with you. I think that's fair. I think it's a fair take. But i really don't know what to make of them all of a sudden like i think the team really believed in the alan price duo. Yep last year showed them. Hey it doesn't matter. If jake allen plays more games carey price carry is going to be rested. Ganal plastic going on right now. You don't have that and you know everybody roots for price and everybody wants to see price back. I just wonder when you get on the ice and the game starts. And you don't have the same duo. How different that going to be for montreal. Listen i like jake allen to. I look at j. gallon and i look at look allen's career and i say one thing he had a bad spell and it just happened to be at home. What's the old saying if you're going to have a bad game or a bad streak make sure it's not at home of course delic if you're gonna stink. Stink on the road. Think on their. Don't do it at home. I like shake allen and look at his career. He's a real good gold and he's one of those goal goalie. The one guy that the goal is getting like. Yeah man like that goalie i got. I got a lot of time. For jake allen i i really think he's a good goaltender now is he. You know the is the battery. The same between him and price and alan montemurro. No of course. Not but. I don't want anyone to sleep on jake allen.

"We did see two thirds of the jobs that were created in july goto women so that was encouraging but we still saw that their participation in the labor force was really kind of stagnant. It did it. Didn't go up and so that would suggest that women still aren't coming off the sidelines. And reentering the workforce So it is something that i think could potentially sort of limit the job gains four women going forward if we see the variant continuing continuing to search so amirah helped me think about this politically for second if a governor lawmaker and i'm looking at Sort of this landscape and what robin just know provide force before the break around this real possibility of having to shut it. All down is it. Is it more distressing to shut it down and have economic pain that everyone is gonna feel or to allow these almost unconscionable illnesses and deaths and maybe particularly among pediatric cases. But that's still going to be paying. That felt by some and not by everyone. I'm just like how does one make that particular political calculation if we if. We took ethics morality outfit altogether. Well i i don't cover politics but just talking to small business owners and workers. I think some of it is geographic. Right i think that you know one thing to think about lockdowns. Is that in the states where we have sort of relatively lower rates vaccination. Those are the states where we have. Governor is that have been hesitant to do sort of very strict restrictions and very strict lockdowns in in the first place right. It's just not sort of part of their political calculus when they're thinking about who they're voters are and what their voters want. And so i don't see a world where unless there is some some sort of significant worsening of the situation that we're seeing now where states particularly in the south will go back to sort of the lockdown situation we had earlier the pandemic that may be a different calculation for states and governors in those states. Where people do sort of a aren't as hostile to lockdowns and mass and those sorts of things. I was talking to to restaurant co owners in in columbus ohio. And they were saying look. This is a place where people take. Covert very seriously. They want safety measures. They want to feel safe. And so if the delta variants continues to to surged away it is. We're gonna see people sort of changed their behavior and we probably will see restrictions here. Because that's what people kind of want a robin. Obviously president biden will not be himself on any ballot. coming into the midterms in two thousand twenty two. But he is touting. These economic gains as the biden plan working If the biden plan ceases working mostly because of the delta variant and and this kind of needs to potentially shut down Even if it is republican governors and lawmakers being forced to shut down places. They had not previously might still be bad for democrats. It could be. I think if you take the case. Study of florida iran descent. This has kind of become synonymous the lightning rod for this nationally. As governor who is going to stand up to a national mandate and he's in in reality governing two states. If you will at north and central florida and the panhandle if you look at south florida with his chock full of you know all of these real estate refugees from new york and dc. And these people that we're quarantining in the sun and the fun and there's a tremendous amount of confusion and anger by parents and people who thought they were going to florida where you could eat at restaurants and things were okay and you expect some modicum of of of rules in curation for clubs and beaches and vaccination cars and everything and they're getting none of that He is on the ballot next year and there are people who can make the case against him punt gently as kind of a national torchbearer. Kinda this You know i'm thumbing my nose at big government. Dc telling me to wear a mask dc telling me to vaccinate my kids. I think that that's going to be the true case study next year. It's not so much biden biden and his press secretary and everybody kind of unanimously spoken about the importance for vaccines and in fact. We think it's so important that we're exporting millions and millions and millions of vaccines developing nations. And we have our own states you know what a hundred and fifty years after the war ended telling us to to to go away so Yeah i would watch florida very carefully. I would watch the situation in mississippi in arkansas. Where you kind of wonder if governors wished they could kind of speak logic to this but it's politically impossible even as icees filling up robin and there's another aspect to the kind of economics and who can tell you what to do and some of that is is around washington. Dc or your governor but the other is your boss and i. I'm a college professor in my in my real day job. I've haven't taught inside a classroom in a year but the rule is now we all gotta go back to campus to teach and delta variant has nervous about that. I'm wondering about the financial situations of those who are going to say. You know what i'm just. I'm not not going back in right for people who are who have been able to work remotely. What are we likely to see happen. To our sort of overall economic indicators around that i think you are seeing clout right now you just take the fifteen dollar prevailing wage at the service sector level. There are people who are saying. Look you took advantage of me. You exploited me. I was dealing with people as a frontline grocery store worker restaurants server before this. I ain't coming back for ten or twelve dollars. They're going to give me sixteen seventeen dollars and this is going to be sustainable and We're going to limit the size of the dining. You're not only seeing that at service level employees. You're seeing it happen in silicon valley with google facebook with a bunch of white collar companies pushing back reluctantly kind of the comeback to the office thing. So for the time being the clout has shifted to the workers and that should unite them in terms of worker rights and work from home and a lot of us worked our tails off last year in the throes of the pandemic and we were just as productive if not more on the zoom But you're seeing this being battled on unaccompanied company level. And i think that that's fascinating. Both from a wages perspective and also from a a defining what works should be going forward absolutely and and i think we will continue to watch those questions and and how that might also sort of divide across these different aspects of work and of the work sectors robin far assad is the host of public. "To seattle. Here's how here's how it sounds to me. Yeah haggling over the price for jake allen too. Expensive can't do it. Conversations get emotional. These prices are outrageous. This is in the spirit of cooperation amongst general managers. Burkey always called all the pirates are gone. There's no pirates left in the game and all the pirates again. You know the guys were you shake their hand. You have to count your fingers afterwards. Right the oak cliff fletcher tapes rate. Oh you've got to win a trade. It's the spirit of cooperation amongst general managers. The that is just an emotional event when the got carried away and now it's gone too far. It's possible you look at the time line. News gets out that he's exposed and then a day later comes out the injury stuff like a lot of people that kind of fits that way right now. The bottom line is if they select price. There's a chance you basically traded carry a price for nothing. Do you believe that. That's what montreal wanted to. Do you think montreal can sell will. Now we've got ten point five million cap space that we didn't have before a goaltender that just took him to the stanley cup final. So the only way that you can sell that is if watch two ways. Watch what we do with this money or he wanted to go. I'm wondering if the canadians are like boy. This kind of went farther. We thought it was going to go. We'll see we'll see how this plays out is such a fascinating story and that's only one of the parts right now at the montreal canadians we talked a lot of o'shea wherever last week and we won't know that until he goes up for his preseason physical that's when the nhl rural what about filipino. Anytime there's a center out there. The first team i think of is columbus like he's a senate right and he's a good one yup not as much a score but he's so no he's a. He's a silky center. He's.

"It's been news and rumors and expansion draft and nhl draft than free agency. We put out the podcast. I don't wanna say it's our podcast was luke pro- cops podcast on monday and we want to keep it as luke procup heavy as possible. It was his day. It was his day. We didn't wanna put out to podcasts. Okay here's a news podcast. And here's luke's podcast. We just wanted to be about him. And we thank everybody for the feedback. It's been real nice again. You know really happy For lucan his family as well but this is the other podcast of the early week for thirty with the pod This is news. This is rumors. And this is crazy town montreal carey price and everybody else elliott as we record this podcast monday night. Eleven o seven. Pm what is the latest with carey price in seattle. The cracker considering it. I think they have. Obviously i don't know signed but for all intents and purposes. They have a deal with chris trigger three times. Three point five and he's going to be there picked from florida. The price thing is still there. Something happened between ron francis and mark. Berge and you know. They're both pretty secretive guys. They like to keep their cards close to the vest. And i don't know if we'll ever get a definitive answers to what kinda went down in their conversations but something happened there. And i believe the ask for allen to not take him was a second prospect and berge said no and he explored trading him. But he didn't want to do that like i would. Montreal's plan wise. was that carey. Price really liked working with jake allen and next year was going to be like a regular season split now. Maybe it wasn't exactly be forty one forty one but i think with the montreal canadians were thinking about was a situation where carey price became. Sort of the one. A in the regular season played last games in the ever did and therefore he was raring to go for the playoffs. I believe that was the plan. Like i don't know if it was forty one forty one or it was you know forty seven thirty five or whatever it was going to be but they were trying to mold into a situation where they would share the job kinda right and then price would be ready for the playoffs and price was signing off on that. He liked that idea. And i don't know what happened negotiations here. But there's sounds like there's a little bit bad blood from the conversations and montreal tried this move and i think seattle new was possible but i don't think they really believed it was going to happen and now the reaction from outside in terms of when anyone asks the i love about it is how can we not seriously consider this and now the reports come out and like it's a knee potential surgery and it's not supposed to be that bad and now people are saying well you never know when they get in there it could turn out to be worse and i kinda wonder if montreal's regretting this to be honest and you know seattle's looking at it like well you know. Maybe he was hurt by look at the way he played in the playoffs. He took them within three wins. The stanley cup. And i just think that seattle you can't not do a deep dive and they're trying to find out the medical and they're trying to get to the bottom of this but the one thing jeff we haven't heard is what kerry price thinks because there's two schools of thought right now one that he did the canadians favor and they didn't think that he thought that this was actually going to happen. But to you also have to take that on some level. He knew it could happen and he was at least comfortable with the idea. See that's my question here. Is it possible that carey price is just cool with golan. Is it possible a carry price. Offer this to the montreal canadians with the thought that i'm katie. Go to seattle that. This is more than because right now. What this looks like to me is a a game of hockey chicken. Or it's hockey's equivalent of the closing scene in reservoir dogs where everyone's daring each other to do something here. That's what it looks in. Feels like to me elliott and maybe this is just an autumn's razor and you know the easiest explanation. God i feel bad for the guy. Who's chris and you feel bad for the guy who is Who's getting his ear cut off the chair. Maybe there's easiest. Explanation is just that kerry prices cool gone disastrous possibly earn. We're over thinking this thing. Like oh strategically. Montreal has placed carey price year as saying thinking. Seattle won't take him. As a way to protect jake allen could carry price. Maybe we just wanna go. That's why we have to wait. Like i don't like putting words in other people's mouths. I've been asking that question a lot over the last day you know. I wrote sunday night a blog and then the question i spent most of monday asking people wise does carry price. Want to go. And i think that it's impossible to say on some level that he's not comfortable with it but i really do believe that they also had a plan and price liked the plan. Which was you know what you're not gonna play sixty games anymore. You're going to play..

"Of thirty. One thousand podcast. Thanks so much for joining us today. Lots happening I shouldn't happen. Lots being talked about elliott and will stick with a couple of canadian teams. Here right now and we'll We'll start with the maple leafs. I'm of the mind that this is probably going to be a six times six deal. What's happening with zach hyman right now. Well he's got the permission to talk to all these other teams right and you know what i think happened again. Nobody direct like none of the direct sources will talk about it. But the best i can piece together is like i think toronto wanted to keep them and i think he wanted to stay. I agree with you. I think there's a six times six or maybe seven times six out there potentially for him. We'll see where this goes. I think what toronto tried to do. And this is kind of gas and educated. Guess was they tried to. Max hermit to bring down the av And i just think it's too far from where highlands potentially going to go here. You know. I think it's like a lot of players i think there's a willingness to leave something on the table. I i just think the gap was too big of what potentially is out there. What they suspect is out there. And what toronto could do so. Even though i think toronto tried to mac term it. I just i don't think they were. They were able to get close. See that surprises me. The idea the toronto would would max term this thing and again i understand this is this is your educated speculation but you know we just mentioned the avalanche and being an analytics driven organization and so is toronto and the same aging curves that exists in colorado exist in toronto with the maple leafs as well. And here's a player. Who plays an aggressive rough brand of hockey which can to injuries. And he's twenty nine years old and that type of commitment on term to a player where you know. The history of these types of players aren't flattering for those types of contracts. I don't disagree with you. Jeff but i think what that may have shown was just how much toronto felt about this particular player. And the other thing you can always do is try to make it so that you know it's easier by audible at the end of the deal ever. I guess it just showed. How much toronto thought about hyman that. They really tried to find a way and i just unfortunately don't think it ever got close. You know the The other speculation that edmonson. There's a number of teams would be interested. Edmonson was one of the first ones that popped up and my first thought. Was you know what type of good did zach. Hyman do in her previous life to be able to play with austin matthews and maybe connor mcdavid early andrei cycle in this life. Do we know if there is still interest from edmonton edmonton's one of the teams in there. You know. I know there were some reports in vancouver. That knocks are there too. I just like to talk about the quick sec number one. I do think the contracts are looking for that kind of player. I think they have some interest in in in jaden schwartz. I don't think they're the only ones you know. There's going to be a few other teams looking at schwartz. Like i wonder. For example of landis gog leaves if colorado goes there maybe. La goes there. He goes back to saint. Louis i mean those are all possibilities for him but the other thing about vancouver i i wanted to mention wherever some brock besser rumblings. Yeah on thursday. This is what i think was going on with brock besser. I do think his name came up. But i don't think it's because vancouver's got him on the market. I really think that it was vancouver. Going after something they really wanted or needed and besser name came up as the price that it was going to cost them. And i really believe that if besser was getting move this year it was purely because of a deal where vancouver got something and we would say. Okay now we kind of understand why this happened. I don't think his name is being thrown out there. I think it was specific to a certain kind of trade. So i don't think it's a general besser available. Let me stick with vancouver here for one second. What's going to happen with nate schmidt here. I think they're going to to trade him. They are trying to move him. I think everybody knows. I hope said. There's no nate schmidt's situation. And i guess it's all semantics. Maybe there is no situation. But i think there's an understanding that You know he'd like to play elsewhere. And i think they're going to try to accommodate them but they could have a lot of holes on their blue line. They're they're trying to sign. Adler i don't know how deeply they've gone with hammock yet. There is a chance he comes back and ends up back there. But i do think they're trying to find him a new home. Let me get back to toronto. then We just talked about Zach hyman the goaltending situation. We've talked about a plenty jack. Campbell is the goaltender under contract. He will be a maple leaf next season question. Mark about frederik anderson question mark about number three. Who's out there on another team right now. What are your spidey senses. Tell you about the goaltending in toronto. It's a great question. I think the goaltender market's gonna be really interesting. You know with the montreal situation now. Where they're they're gonna leave weber unprotected in there. They're gonna lose. Jake allen you don't think they can do a deal to get ron francis to stay hands off. I hear it's expensive man. He don't someone told me who had been a position to know that the The ask and this may all changes. The deadline approaches. That the ask for staying hands off of a player as a first and a third. I've heard it's been very very high. That's very very high. That's very high very very high and that kind of fits but i. I haven't heard that you know the goalie. Market's going to be going to be fascinating. Someone told me that you know this new dell covid thing is really interesting you know. Carolina has indicated that they think what he could win in our is too high and you know some people wonder if it's appear negotiating tactic but other people tell me. They think they're serious that they'll only go to a certain point with the delicate and and then they might move on any maple leaf wise. Well i should talk about. The goal is because i keep on losing my train of thought right like this is not your fault. This is my fault like my flee like attention span. I keep getting distracted by something shiny. The name of this podcast cats and laser pointers go really is so true. Goalie wise everybody thinks seattle is taking dreger from florida and signing him. Now will that happen. I don't know but people are expecting it. So what other goaltenders. Now i think seattle is interested in whole be but not at the number. I think they want to see if they can get vancouver to retain something or try something there and then seattle's undoubtedly going to take a couple of goalies to see if they can flip them because if it's dreger we'll see what happens. Withhold be and montreal things. It's going to be allen and all of a sudden. Where else could we be going with this. Didn't we all think. I thought that anton khudobin was going to be one of those guys but then big ben bishop goes out in agreed to waive his no trade right. There's another one bishop. Mike smith isn't signed yet and edmonton..

"A very very unique NFL prospect in multiple ways number that he basically hasn't played a game in two years, he played one game in 2020, in central Arkansas, actually was kind of its worst game in college football, but otherwise with the weird year with covid-19, all of trade Lance's tape is from two years ago. 2019, he's basically been out of school training for the NFL. He got a quarterback coach top, nice guy, Quincy Avery and he's been working for p like a dog getting ready for the NFL and it's very possible if not likely that the film you see of Trail ants from two years ago does not represent who he is as a quarterback. Any more like I would imagine And in preparation what he's been doing. I'd imagine he's gotten much better from two years ago, and it will continue to get better in the NFL. But when you put on tape, you see a guy with flaws, for sure, with inactive or throws, some bad habits, have to play against James Madison, for example, in the title game, where they Blitz and instead of hanging to the pocket, there's literally there's a receiver sitting open, you beat the blitz with a throw instead of doing that. He tries to run and run away and get sacked in the backfield. It's very frustrating like dude, like, okay, you gotta sit in the pocket when they Blitz Speed, The Blitz with a throw. However, I look at that and go. I'm so excited because of trade, Lance can get the right coach in the NFL. Oh my goodness, cuz the talent, you see? Even trade. Lance on film is unbelievable. 2019 against Montana. State Gym is amazing. Play amazing, throwing a broken play. Well, he likes steps up on the back. It runs all the way to the left, then all the way back to the right flips, his hips, launches, the ball, deep for a 73-yard touchdown pass. And you're like, I just that's, that's freakishly athletic. He's got such a strong skill, set out of North Dakota State trade Lance's. Potential is unreal. It really reminds me of Jake Allen or Justin Herbert. They both had problems in tape in college, but they got to the NFL. They got better coaching. They got time to progress and we've seen recently crazy talented players problems. Go to the NFL, get good coaching, get way better. So what the story of Josh Allen Justin Herbert really really makes me feel very very good about Trail. And in this draft class in twenty, twenty one month free Lance is the biggest and the best athlete at the quarterback position. He's got the biggest arm, this guy just needs a good coach and I'm a greedy football fan. I love seeing incredible stuff. So what I really hope happens is that the 49ers draft, real answer. Number 3, overall pick. I think right now the debate in San Francisco is, there's some people saying, you know, Mac Jones is more nfl-ready, he's the safer pick. I totally get that wage. And then other people in that building are saying, you know, trade Lance just needs a coach to help them and who better than Kyle. Shannon. To help us young guy, develop and become a great NFL quarterback. I agree with that. Second option that I really, really would like to see Trey Lance and his skill-set working with Kyle Shannon in San Francisco, to be unbelievable. I really hope that happens. He's got a huge arm. He can run people over in. Also outrun people downfield, he's got a better skill set than Justin fields. In my opinion. They're both similar prospects, where they're great athletes with a lot of amazing skill sets, but I'm a freelance is more skilled. Despite, you know, they both have flaws on film. The potential is unbelievable. And again after watching Justin Herbert and Josh Allen really, really impressed me and yelled from them were like a lot of people didn't believe in him that problems in Cape on in college, on tape to.

"So that has to be kind of like you can do it either you can throw other players in there have other players money match up, but that's it's like a one-way Street for boosted from that point you kind of have to work, which which they can easily do there's plenty of ways to go about this you get a third team involved you've expand the deal with more players. But when you're the Celtics and you're looking at some bad money, like you've got a lot of money locked up next year between Kemba tatem Brown smart. So I guess my question for you. Rich is like a food service is coming in. One of those guys is going out to say at least we know it's not Tatum and brown so long are you like wanting to ride Kemba and smart or would the upgrade to the Savage over one of those guys suck obviously, you're going up a lot more on top of it be good enough for you to pull the trigger on this what would I trade can before booster ditch and a lot of stuff for kids with him. But yes, I would I mean it's funny right before we started recording. Someone texted me and asked me if I would if I would trade Kemba for porzingis and I said, yes on that one as well. I think again, where's hold on? Let me bring up this that real quick. I don't know if you just made a friend of mine sent it from Instagram. So I can't I am not I haven't verified this yet. But the Celtics have the table in the NBA. We know this Taco Fall and still have the shortest average height in the league. That sounds right. That's outrageous. So yes, they are undersized that just about every position except for weighing except for Jaylin and Jason are just about right but everywhere else you look they are undersized needs some sized booths, which does that person just does that I mean his his body is probably potentially birth and canvas. It's a bit of a crapshoot there, but I just I think the Celtics need to get bigger than needs to get tougher. Not that be sufficient necessary known for his toughness so much, but like and if if it means Parting with Kemba. I think I'm ready to do that. Well in the problem is Kim was not chemists probably a negative asset right now. So you'd move Kemba to make the money work if you want to like maintain the trade exception, but my guess is Orlando has no interest in taking Campo as part of this deal. Like you'd have to find a 13 frame cuz they have folks. They have Anthony and they don't want 30 X 35 million other books. So you either have to give another team draft picks to move campus somewhere else like Okay C or something like that or which is Jake Allen chemical right right becomes a thing but like but you see Kimba or you have to move other things like you're moving smart. First-round picks probably like Rob Williams win a link for it and Nesmith like really, you know piling up your meaningful assets along with brakes to get a guy that's an All-Star in his prime right now. And so the question is like is that you know, pulling your assets like that where if it for a guy like visitors. Can you break down for me one more time? I know Ryan bear do need as much in this a few times when he's been on with us. So let's so the Celtics way. Let's say the the big deal doesn't come. Yep. So they wait for the offseason to try and use this big teepee..

"Well, like that. What he Harrelson is big bed carnage. Here we go. Now, Sean Means is here. He is the uh, culture writer and film critic. You can read his stuff that Salt Lake Tribune s l Trib dot com and movie cricket dot net Now did I hear? I didn't look at the Thing we got. Is there only one movie. We got one movie? Yeah. What is that? I haven't I have been busy this week. I am here were seven were seven days away from the start of the Sundance Film Festival. I've been occupied, but I did have one for you. This is opening, actually opening in theaters. It's called no man's land. Um, this is a This is a, um, drive a drama set on the Texas Mexico border on both sides of it. Um, you have you have a young man? Who is it? Family owns a ranch on the Texas side of the of the border. On Which is what his parents want him to do is to get out and get away and all 11 night when the dad played by Frank Grillo, who you know from Marvel Uh, yeah, He's he's crossbones. You were one of the bad one of the big bad. So, uh um and, uh, and and another and the other son, Uh, they're rounding up cattle when they have gotten loose because migrant Coming over the border coming over the Rio Grande from Mexico keep crossing into the into their land. There's an incident where they will play right into a group of migrants. Are our boy played by an actor named Jake Allen. Uh, Gets involved in it and guns go off and the older brother is shot in the gut and the 11 year old son of One of the migrants eyes is killed. Now you would think that from here? What's what we're going to get is some sort of like revenge thriller. Where, you know you killed my brother area. You shot my brother. You killed my son type of thing between the two That's not what happens. Which is really fascinating. Instead, the R r guy, uh, Decides to on his own going to Mexico to find the town where this kid is from and apologize and atone for what he is what he did, and along the way along the way he winds up Working at a ranch, uh, in in in a minute on the Mexico side, meeting people along the way and sort of changing his perception of what he thought he knew about Mexico. Which, uh, Yeah, it would. Which was not very positive. Um It's it's It's. It works to a certain degree, some pointy parts that especially the parts involving this guy, are Are are very, very hard, very heartfelt and very authentic. There are other parts that play like a bad cliche, because as he's doing this, he's being pursued by, um, a violent drug runner. Uh, who wants revenge, and he's also being pursued by A Texas ranger, played by George Lopez. Mm. Hop on. And George Lopez? Yes, drum. Not any non comedic role. Yeah, um, the I don't think he's very funny anyway, so well, that's that's That's a matter of taste. Um It's on the movie is directed by, uh, Shannon Khan around who's the brother of our Our star? Uh, they and they they are like two brothers who grew up in Texas. Started started making movies on their own, and now they are able to make movies with picking up. But it's taken get Frank Grillo and any McDowell on drugs office so It's an issue. It is interesting. Um, it has some really great moment. It's not perfect. Um, but it's definitely a different view of Of the migrant is, uh, scenario down there on the border. So three stars three stars for no man's land guilty and that's playing it. Several That's playing in several of the megaplex theaters. So so what are you gonna be doing with Sundance this year, Shawn. I will be attending as normal. Um, what's not normal? I'll be attending from the same chair in my living room that I have been doing everything else. Uh, you think and that I'm sorry. Good. But do you think this could change the Sundance Film Festival in some some appreciable ways? Maybe they'll continue. Maybe not completely in this vein, but But continue doing stuff more online. And rather than trying to be the do the big cluster up in Park City. Funny. You should ask that because that is the subject of story that I have coming in Sunday's paper well waiting Children, but that it is an interesting question of You know what if this works, I mean, yeah, several film festivals around, you know many some festivals around the world have done. Online gone online in his last year because of the code 19 and you know Toronto, New York. Uh, Telluride, um, you know, all all went virtual the summer agree with some in person events usually sort of drive in or outdoor. You know where they could have, you know? Nice spacing and thought, um And you can't really do driving and Utah because in January because frees up but what they are doing, I mean with some into doing it is the entire program's on blind is on there. Digital platform, Uh, they are and they are doing in person events in 20 cities across the country. That plan originally was 33. In some places, they decided, okay. The code is not cooperating, and they had to cancel what unfortunately, one of those places was Park City they were trying to do. They were trying to do one screen the ray up there by the up there by the fresh market on and they decided they couldn't do that, because the numbers here were too bad. They also canceled the Rose Bowl. They were going to do driving at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, and they cancel that because Southern California is just You're terrible with the coconut so they're doing. They're doing 20 cities and the question becomes okay. If it works, do they? Do they expand this? This satellite screen thing and the other cities do they keep doing the online And what does that mean for Park City on before the for the traditional festival. And that and and and also what is, you know what is Park City having to deal with this year without having all those people and all their money coming into town? How much money does Park City they figure they make? From the Sundance Film Festival every year. Um, why quite a lot statewide, according granted economic studies they do at the at the end of every festival, um, statewide. Because there's a lot of the vessel that haven't been Salt Lake a swell we're talking like $137 million a year. Wow, and it's brought in right in and in red, and I mean a lot of it is lodging up Park City. A lot of it is transportation, but a lot in a lot of it is, you know, restaurants and eating and On setting everything else. Pocket homes and shoe laces. Things like that. I'm sure there's a lot of pocket costs. There's a lot of things to get bought is what I'm saying. And John, We gotta take a break and go. You can Look for that in the physical paper Salt Lake Tribune coming up this Sunday and you can always read Sean stuff. It s l trip dot com or movie cricket dot net. Thank you, Sean. Take care. All right. Thank you. Thank you. Traffic.
