"This game from a week ago. That's a lot to be proud of. I agree. No moral victories in the NFL. I'm with that, with the coach, but if you're looking for improvement, I think Sam Howell answered the call this week. Absolutely. From what I say, I think that what you take away from this game is that you actually have a quarterback. Mm -hmm. He bounced back. He got rid of the ball quickly. That last drive was just just pretty good. Yes. Ten plays, minute forty -three and then he finds Jahan Dotson with a touchdown with no time left. We had a play call. Basically, everyone getting the end zone. Kind of run curl routes. We had one -on -one coverage. It was the last play of the game. We knew that and Sam just gave me a chance and I was able to create a little bit of separation and make a play. That's like when you're playing it back at home. Everybody's getting the end zone. I'll find somebody open. Everybody run to the end zone. You gotta do it. And they play for the tie. Eagles win it in overtime. But now the big thing is this quick turnaround. Bears come to town on Thursday. So, basically, I'll be out there tomorrow. One day of practice and media availability. Then they will be off Wednesday. Play Thursday. It's a week we don't really practice because the body has to take time to recover. So, there'll be a lot of walk throughs and film study this week. On a Bears team that blew a big lead yesterday and lost their 0 coming to town Thursday. Can't lose Thursday, okay? Absolutely not. Giants and Seahawks tonight on Monday night. Football and good news from Maryland's quarterback Talia Tagovailoa. He's been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. 352 yards, 5 touchdowns in Saturday's win over Indiana Terps at Ohio State this week. And the homecoming game has been kicked. Kick time is at 3 .30 on October 14th against Illinois Homecoming. All right. George Wallace, WTOP Sports. Thank you George. Up ahead on WTOP Trial Underway in New York for Former President Trump. "Sports at 25 and 55 powered by Red technology River decisions aren't black and white think red. Now to Frank Hanrahan. Commanders almost pull off the upset but fall in overtime at Philadelphia. 34 -31. Sam how 29 -41. 290 yards. Was sacked five times. Did lead a late drive to force overtime. "Weren't in Landover today and it wasn't the outcome we were looking for Frank Anderhan. It was a valiant effort but yeah the commanders fall short at Philadelphia Mike. 34 -31 54 yard field goal in overtime wins it for the Eagles who stay defeated. Commanders dropped to 2 -2. Sam Howell though showed growth. 29 -41 290 yards. Only sacked 5 times this time around Coach Ron Rivera. Well first of all it was a hell of a performance by Sam. He bounced back. He learned from last week. He grew and he got better and it was reflected in the way he played. It was reflected in the way he led our offense. A lot of positive things that we're going to take from that. Yeah he led a late drive to force a touchdown force overtime with a touchdown throw to Jahan Dotson. But again tough loss for the commanders. They get a quick turnaround. Get winless Chicago this Thursday back in Landover Ravens. Big Cleveland 28 -3. Baseball Nationals final game of the season right now tied with Atlanta 5 -5 bottom six from the ATL. Orioles trail Boston 2 -zip in the top of the seventh. Speaking of Boston former Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield has died at the age of 57 from brain cancer. And Buck Showalter will not return as the Mets manager next season. "Craig, the rookie Zay Flowers on the Ravens, who is just like a replica of Tyree kill every other receiver on the Ravens is either old or coming off a serious injury. This Todd Munkin offense. Look, we don't know if it's going to work out, but if it does flowers is going to be a guy that, uh, is going to, is going to make you some fantasy playoffs. I have Gibbs on Detroit. Yeah. Um, as my runner up, I am infatuated by Michael bear on the Raiders and I was glad high fits to that tight end thing. I think he's going to be awesome. And I actually think you guys know way more about the draft than I do, but I really wanted the paths to get a tight end. So I actually did the tight end work and I was really surprised that he fell to the second round. I also think he's one of those guys that he like goes to bed saying the names of the two tight ends that went in front of him. And then he wakes up and he says the two names again, and he goes to the bathroom to brush his teeth and they're on the wall. And he's just like, my goal in life now is to be better than these two guys. And I think McDaniels loves using guys like that. Good pre-season. Um, I just like them. And it's probably a year. He was going to be the first overall guy. People thought he was going to be the first tight end taken in the draft. There was a cup of coffee for him where he was like a top 10 pick. And then I don't know what happened with the tight end. He, I saw him at the combine, Bill, you are exactly right in terms of like his demeanor, at least from my, from my impression, like he gets up on there on the podium, like puts his hands on the sides of the podium and like Lords above everyone that was like in, in the scrum. And he's just like the most charismatic, you know, this guy, I want to run through a wall through like for him immediately. He was just so like intense. So he's got the Bills game circled for whatever year they're playing the Bills Kincaid over him. I'm not sure that he fell because of talent. I think that all the teams at the top part of the draft were like, well, there's seven great tight ends. Why would we take one in the first when we get guy almost as good as second? I do think that that was a huge reason they fell. Yeah. DK, did you go? No, my guy this year is Jahan Dotson for the commanders. I think he, he was good last year. He was, he flashed a lot last year. He was injured for part of the season, but he definitely flashed. I think in the pre-season this year, there's like more flashes where you look at them and you're like, okay. And Craig and I have talked about this in high fits. You can just see it immediately. This guy has it. He's good. He's really good. I'm just a little, I'm not a hundred percent ready to like be committed to the commander's offense being good. So I'm, you know, I don't think Dotson's going to necessarily like be this elite fantasy guy, but I think he has the potential to be one of the elite receivers in the NFL. You know, also Terry Mclaurin has turf toe. So also not great. All right. Three more. My missionary position. We've all had them. I have no excitement whatsoever that I just took this guy guy last year. I think I took Keenan Allen who I'm just not taking anymore. I just can't, I just can't get excited all about him. High Fits, who do you have? Uh, I have Keenan Allen. We did not plan that.

So that's that's what we're doing today And before I bring everybody in just a little bit of a backstory I grew up a Cleveland Browns fan. I had nothing until age Nothing until about age seven and then I realized that my family didn't have a favorite football team and I thought Okay, I grew up in northeastern, Pennsylvania Hated the Eagles because everybody liked the Eagles and the Steelers Seemed kind of gross to me because every person that I knew that was a Steelers fan had a very dirty Starter jacket Steelers starter jacket. So that was just like a an aesthetic that wasn't pleasing to me So the Steelers were out. So I said I'm gonna pick the next football team that comes to be and that was the 1999 Cleveland Browns thus began a Medium length marriage between me and one of the most maligned franchises in sports abusive relationship abusive relationship one could say yeah, and and then obviously the events of The events of last March have made me a free agent Thanks to my former co-host Jenny Vrentis We as a family have just formally adopted the US women's national team as the team of the or house but Everyone's asking the kids are like who are we rooting for? What's going on here? Very brief stint with the Jets, but then I think Due to circumstances out of my control and I think just they're overloading right now and we'll get into that But so the Jets are out We've we're at a point now where Mitch Albert I can't I don't know who else I would bring in to help me with with such a big job Yeah, glad to be here I appreciate that you Walked us through how you became a Browns fan in the first place because I have been wondering that you and I have known each other for a long time now and we've talked about I thought just about everything and somehow I had I had never actually Heard the story of how you became a Browns fan but I wanted to hear what last year was like because that was your first season as Sort of an unaffiliated a free agent. I guess maybe that was you flirted with Jets fandom last year But but what was your first season like without the Browns really nice? I thought it was Very comfortable. I enjoy floating in the ether and I would say too as part of our jobs in the football watching universe Right, we're not supposed to be fans. But I do think that we've caught up to this area where I think we can Genuinely love and appreciate a team while also covering them ethically and in a way that's morally justifiable And so it was nice just not you know Not dealing with the constant lol Browns thing the fact that they've become like a cold-blooded McKinsey murderous franchise is good. You know, I don't have to worry about them anymore. They're just completely off the map. And so Let me let me take another stab at that that description Three Two one the fact that they've Browns have pivoted from like lovable loser Which was such a fun part of it for me. I liked being a part of that and You know when they won that playoff game Who was the special teams coach that coached that game because Kevin Stefanski had kovid Prefer Mike Prefer like he was crying. He was from Ohio and I was sitting there You know, I was you know, I was writing about it that night But you're getting a little choked up and you're like, yeah Mike like alright, I get it I'm you know I was along for this ride and then we completely changed from like the Cleveland Browns who we all love to like the Astros and And I was like, oh, this is very scary. I don't like this team anymore. The fans became unrecognizable to me. And so But but the season without being a fan was nice But I'm ready to jump back in because being a fan of just your fantasy football team has its own complications I think I can add to this too because I I grew up in an era in Boston where People won't admit it now. No one liked the Patriots and everybody was out on the Patriots and You know like being so I was born in 1980. So Like 88 89 90 91. Those were like the before Parcells got there were like the Dark Ages For Patriots football so as we were all as kids learning to love watching sports on TV Everyone was attached to the Red Sox and the Celtics and the Bruins But the Patriots were so embarrassing at that point that no one wanted to be associated with them so when I was in middle school, and I'm not even kidding about this I Like kids basically picked their teams based on who had the coolest starter jackets So you had like Cowboys fans and Raiders fans and like whoever whoever's team Looked the coolest and starter jackets was sort of the team you went with So I think I've got good context here on how? These sorts of things can happen where people can kind of pick their teams because there's nobody out there for them. Yeah Yeah, so so Connor we're gonna have you run through all 32 teams and I suggested that you break them down into categories The teams that you just never would consider in a million years and then sort of that second tier maybes and then give us some Finalists and we can run through the pros and cons, but before we get to the actual teams Can you just tell us what are the criteria that you're looking at? You know what? What's important to you as you make this decision because I don't want to just make it for the the general person out there Who is picking a team? I want to pick the right team for Connor or So it helps to know Connor what you are looking for in a franchise I think exciting young Star player that's like a match.com like it is. Yeah. Yeah, here we go It's um, but but in a way right? It's sort of it's sort of like bumble where it's not a mutual thing It's like the team has to impress me and then I engage yes, you know, yeah So in this in this sense, I'm sort of you know, I'm on I'm the girl on bumble, which you know great I Want a player who has staying power. So some sort of a young Ideally a kind of a young franchise quarterback type not a must proximity to my New Jersey home would be nice or If it's one of these things where I can get to them very easily if it's a it's an easy travel a fun drive for the family a Nice place to be I would say relatively wholesome. I'm guessing in the NFL. This is gonna be tough a tough sell at some point yeah, so I think every every club is gonna have its skeletons in the closet and Just nothing that and Mitch and Albert, I think you guys know me better than anyone else I'm among the pettiest human beings on the face of the earth. So the most important criteria is just nothing that Scratches an itch from deep in my past that would Legitimately upset me in any way so that right off the bat disqualifies about half of the NFL. So Totally respect a grudge held so that last one's good, of course, so I wrote down franchise QB Proximity is nice, but not a must Sort of a general wholesome element and no Connor related baggage I I'm sure well, I'm sure we'll find others. I'm sure we're gonna talk about franchise history and Aesthetics. Oh, I'm sure a lot of uniform come up as we talk about it So uniforms is good, and I'm glad you brought that up Mitch So I I think the one really critical thing here is entry point, right? I I am I know I'm coming in late and so there's a lot of To fanbait like You don't want to be jumping on the like Lakers or the Cowboys or the Yankees bandwagon is what you're saying You don't wanna be LeBron like five years ago I had a relative who I love became a dyed in the wool Patriots in Alabama fan And I was like, what did this happen? Like we live in northeastern, you know, the northeastern part of the United States and nowhere near the you know But anyway love Bill O'Brien, they just love greatness and that's fine That's you know, if if you come out and you say it, you know I had another acquaintance from high school who flipped from the Dolphins to the Patriots because During the sort of political climate he thought that wearing a Patriots Colors would would also align with his political view so there's a lot of weird flipping and flopping here but entry point is a big deal for me because I don't want to look Like I'm late to the party and I think I want to have a good reason for getting in now Which is why some of these are kind of going to be complex a little bit Okay, I love it. I think we have a great set of ground rules. I think I know exactly where your head's at Do you want to run us through? First the teams that you just said no way to right away Yeah And I hand I in a very handy fashion shared this with you guys on Google Docs You guys are getting a first look here at the teams who I would never consider and we'll go through these quickly And why don't you guys just stop me if you need any more clarification I'll just do a quick line on each of these number one is the bills. I have nothing against upstate, New York, Western, New York I love the people there. I love the place. It's just not my time The bills are going through a time where Bill's Mafia is a big thing and everybody loves each other and they're their own Separate part of the NFL universe. I'm not gonna try to get in there That's like that would be like if the Backstreet Boys added an extra guy in 1999 he would stick out like a sore thumb. I would not gonna happen for me the Broncos Just not not for me not for me too far away I don't believe in some people don't believe in climate change. I don't believe in high climate high altitude climate So that right off the bat is off and I thought they I thought they fired a pretty good football coach last year So I'm I'm done with the Broncos. The Browns are obvious. We don't need any and Mitch by the way, I Alphabetize this for you. I hope you like that. I do like it. Thank you for doing that. Yeah, no problem I know Mitch likes a good alphabet. I Browns are obvious Unless that's the Browns are the reason we're here. Yes, unless What's the quarterbacks name from UCLA the fifth rounder Dorian Thompson Robinson? If they start Dorian Thompson Robinson this season week one I write back back in baby because then that plugs me right back in with my Chip Kelly past and Then we have a lot of good brown stuff to to go off of but yeah Browns are out Buccaneers. I Lost a lot of respect for them when they did the all-in with Tom Brady thing and and the uniforms are or dumb And have been for a while. I know they're going creamsicle once or twice this year but I just feel like it's sort of a blah nothing franchise in a blah nothing part of Florida so I just you know, no offense to former editor bet Marston who Really says great glowing things about the metropolis that is Tampa Bay, but anywho Cardinals Can't root for a team that charges its players for meals In a take-home box among other things among other things. Yeah I wonder what the vending machine prices are at at the Cardinals facility They're probably like, you know how some places are still like 99 cents for an Arizona iced tea I bet the Cardinals are like a dollar 25 You know just so you have to like be so you have to dig the quarter out of your pocket Just so you can't get out of there clean with just the dollar exactly Connor. You said Arizona just just to be clear It's our a Fona we officially renamed that you did this offseason I I want that to stick and I want you to get the credit for coining it ara Fona spelled with three F's Three and just for for those of you guys who don't know Arizona was the only team who got three F's on the NFL PA player satisfaction survey You would have thought it would have been impossible to beat the commanders and yet here we are Next on my list is the Chargers. I Debated this one. I think it's a good time to get in on Chargers It's a nascent fan base kind of in LA at this point I like young dynamic coach But I just feel like it's gonna be impossible for me to make it out there for a Chargers game So Chargers and Rams same the Cowboys Cowboys are a historical fan base or they are comprised of like my friends from high school who all bought Emmett Smith jerseys Right and became Cowboys fans. I feel like you had to become a Cowboys fan In like the 1996 Ish time period or else buses too late Yeah, you're not you're not also a Yankees and Bulls fan. So, you know, correct, correct? You also skipped over the Chiefs, but I think that's obvious right Chiefs Chiefs are obvious This is not my time just like the bills. This is their time not a fair not a fair one there Eagles It would be Fun fact Mitch. I actually tried first to become an Eagles fan before I became a Browns fan It was a very brief attempt because some of my best friends were Eagles fans But they would talk to me like I was a lower class of Eagles fan Even though I was getting up I was reading in the newspaper I was up on Eagles facts, but they were just like hey, we've been Eagles fans for eight years You're not part of this and you know, I don't want to be a part of the you know Mitch is big into the violent pregame subculture of horse punching and cursing and foul language Would it be good for your kids for you to pick the Eagles just because of all the connections to where you're from and like your friends and it's close enough geographically where they'll probably go to school with some people who root for the Eagles like I feel Like for if you wanted to make this not about you and you wanted to be selfless and have this be about your kids Maybe the Eagles would be an interesting pick just saying that is a that's a great point And we should we did not disclose at the top for those who don't know I am an Eagles fan. I am wearing an Eagles hat right now, which I did not plan out on purpose That is a that is a good argument doing it for the kids It would be different if the Eagles had won the Super Bowl last year But coming off of a loss, you know and you did say like young franchise your first two bullet points were young franchise QB and Proximity to your house. I just say from my own experience when I was really young I have no connections to the Boston area beyond having been born here and growing up here My family's all from my other places and so My dad got me into Detroit's teams when I was really little so I when I was really little I was rooting for the Tigers and the Pistons and the Red Wings and the Lions and so I Do think that there's a little something there Connor like where that made me feel connected to my roots You know when I was really young so maybe could be a plus for your kids All right, Mitch, let's knock that up into the maybe column because I'm here to have my mind changed. I really am This is an objective experience We will move them I'm gonna put them at the bottom of the maybes, okay, and we can we can discuss that later I will I will shield my eyes so I don't see the other teams in the maybe column I want it to be a little bit of a surprise to me, but I I put them in the bottom It would be funny if this exercise ended with me trying to convince you to be an Eagles fan but we can I can get into my feelings about Bandwagon fandom not bandwagon But the come lately's and what it's like when your team is successful and someone hops on I I can get into that in the When we get to the maybe say yeah, I think that's a valuable perspective So let's just round out the list here Jets as we mentioned Let's call them extenuating circumstances plus the Dalvin cook signing not really something that sits well on the on the belly And I just think they're too it's too it's too big now. It's become too catastrophic And one where you're jumping on the moving train You're jumping on a like a bullet train at this point, right? And you know, I would have loved to have a team Like let's say the Jets never got Aaron Rodgers and they were kind of just plugging it out with Zach Wilson I think that was the obvious answer for me, right? Homegrown talent no success yet, but everything got microwaved to the point where it was almost like AMC stock, right? I didn't buy in and now all of a sudden we're at the point where there's no return. So Jets are off Rams like Chargers We mentioned just gonna be hard to get a game out there and I don't really get any kind of warm and fuzzies They're kind of a transient fan base at this point Saints. I know this is gonna be an Albert anti Albert take And I'm probably gonna get you a little fired up here not a New Orleans fan just the the city the area Yeah, yeah, I didn't even know that was possible. How does anybody not like New Orleans? I don't like it I don't like the weather The food is too salty and fatty. I went to Cafe Du Monde and I have better beignets up here in New Jersey So wow, yeah. Yeah, I might have to I might have to withdraw from this podcast Some of these other teams you've gone out of your way to be like, no, I don't want to offend anyone Yeah, if we're gonna clip a segment of this to put on social media maybe me just blindly clubbing the Saints is where we're at Red carpet for you to come when you cover Super Bowl 59. You're not gonna be welcome You know what? I I went to I went down there a couple times in The Phantom holding call and I just like I gave it a shot I really did I did the whole real deal thing like I had the the andouille sausage and I googled like all the real places to eat there and Not just the places that Guy Fieri went and I went there too because Guy Fieri's the best But I really immersed myself in it and I just didn't like it Not for me that game is so famous because of the blown pass interference call and of course Because we're in this weird world where we remember the things we worked on that day My enduring memory of that game is that in the first half Connor you interviewed the whistle man I did we had that everyone who was watching on TV Where is that whistle coming from and we had a story up before the game was over Connor exclusive talking to whistle, man I talked to whistle man and not only did I talk to whistle man But we both a whistle man and I both figured out we were grateful dead fans I was wearing my grateful dead hat and he had just got back from playing in the sand He went to go see them in Riviera Maya in Mexico. So see whistle man and I are still like this baby I feel like I I don't know like I feel like I like have different levels of appreciation for New Orleans So maybe you need to keep going back because it was like when I went when I was a freshman in college to Mardi Gras That was incredible that was like a like sensory overload, you know And then you go and you spend time in the quarter and you go enough times It's like okay This is getting a little old or I'm getting a little old for this and then I started going to other parts of the city Where the locals go and I got a whole new appreciation for it. So I went to like Jackson Square There's this bar there called the our bar That's like I mean legitimately one of the best bars I've ever gone to just For how authentic it is and how you really feel like you're in the city that you're in Rather than you know being in some place where and I I love these places when I was younger place We're like, you know your foot sticks to the ground because of because it's been puked on 12 times that night, you know So like I feel like there are there's an appreciation I have of New Orleans. It's very nuanced Which is why I'm offended by your take. I Like I like getting on you know cities can't get too comfortable and I'm just saying New Orleans has got this thing where I Think that they're entrenched as a top American city and I'm just saying don't get too comfortable. Keep improving That's all I'm saying. Keep improving Steelers, like I said Just a lot of dirty starter jackets and in middle school and I can't get past that there was like three kids who were Steelers fans and they just wore like the starter jacket and it was just Like it was see where you grew up with their Steeler fans. Was it half Steelers half Eagles or was it? It was half Steelers half Eagles. Yeah, okay Okay, I thought Steelers were on there because they were a rival of the Browns and maybe there was an ingrained hatred of them But no and I and I I really I I could see it if I could get past that that just aesthetic From my grade school days. I think the Steelers a lot of stuff would fit pretty well I mean it can he pick it I think is gonna be around there for a while Mike Tomlin There's there's a lot of good there. I could drive my kids out there But you know, I I haven't heard a good case for really getting on board with them and maybe by the time my kids Come to awareness in football. They're both very young then, you know Maybe Mike Tomlin won't be there and I won't know who's that. Maybe that Bill Cower will be back I don't know, but that's another one too. They've won six Super Bowls So that's one where it's hard you hop on there and and the real fans have been there forever and have been through all those Championships and multiple eras of champions top on them now feels, you know, like you missed the boat exactly and then the last one Texans it's just It's just a nothing franchise. It's just it's it is a Madden create a franchise generic franchise. It's a generic name It's a generic uniform. It's a generic history There is nothing there that grabs me and says it's amazing too I mean, that's where I think like the D'Amico higher could make a put make a difference because he played there because he's actually got history There and so like maybe there's something they can develop there, but you're right I mean I I can remember the Oilers but the Astrodome was like one of the hardest places to play in the NFL like legitimately like feared and like they were always pretty good in the 80s and 90s and I just Like whatever that was somehow The league couldn't recap It was easy to do in Cleveland right like to recapture what the Browns were before because they're so ingrained there But you would think in Texas like they would be able to tap in to what the Oilers were and for one reason or another They just haven't been able to do it I remember one kid in my high school was like, oh, I'm all in on the Texans and you know Just watching him walk around in a Matt Schaub Jersey was just so weird and I was just like You know, is this what you want out of your life? This is this is what you want to be doing with your Sundays Because you just you just made me feel ancient that there were Matt Schaub jerseys in height when you were in high school Just think about it, right? If you're if you're that desperate to stand out Then you should have just been one of the kids that started early on the Premier League and just pretended you like soccer Because you're not it living in Scranton, Pennsylvania. You're not a Texans fan. You're just not you're not from Texas The team sucks and There's there's just nothing there And so you're walking around in this Matt Schaub Jersey and it just was depressing to me And so I can't I can't shake that image in my head. So cool logo, though I do like that. I I can do so much more with it. You know, I feel like their logo No I feel like their logo if they had been if they've been able to establish again like what the Oilers had there Because I remember when their logo came out. I was like that is the coolest freaking logo I was in college then when they were an expansion team And I felt like that their logo is like that is such a cool logo They did such a good job with it And then I think everything that's happened on the fields kind of ruined it the Texans logo looks like if the Patriots were like a black water security organization and then one of their associates Started an offshoot of that just in the south It looks like they just rearranged the New England Patriot into the shape of Texas And so like are you a fan of the Flying Elvis? I just like Flying Elvis is great. Cuz like that sideburn is such a relic of the early 90s You know what? I mean like that sideburns like from like the Nirvana era like so I think that that little sideburn on Pat Patriot on the New Age Pat Patriot is like It's just it tells you what era that was from when lots of people had sideburns You could piece it together with Texans and red white and blue just get over it. We all love it. It's a great color combination like 1776 I'm all on board with this But I think if the Texans really wanted to get me on board you reboot and you go like full NWO black and red something that really grabs me and Appeals to my personal sensibilities. So Texans you're gonna have some work to do not interested moving on Okay, so now we're on to the maybes so that was our lightning round yeah, yeah Knocked out 14. No, I guess 13 because we we promoted the Eagles into your maybes. So we've got 13 teams down and now Yeah, I I think I feel pretty good about all of those No other teams that I'm gonna put up a strong fight for I think I'm glad the Eagles got promoted to the maybes I think otherwise some very defensible choices All right, so now that you guys have the list in front of me Do you want me to read my list of maybes and then do you want to raise some points here? Do you wanted that? We need to go through like why there maybes like so I think maybe if you just read them off and then Me and Mitch can start picking off teams that we think or have a good case. Let's be honest There are way too many true crime podcasts and if you're looking for middle-aged rich ladies laughing at tragedy I'll tell you this is something very different. We begin with the shocking crimes of Ed Buck A man by the name of Ed Buck has been arrested after a third man nearly died of an overdose in his West Hollywood home LA is a jungle You got to be careful I'm sonari Glinton I'm a reporter and every reporter has that one story that their bosses were too afraid to take on But now with this podcast I have the chance to tell stories too important to miss Listen To shattering the system on the I heart radio app Apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts alright, so Let's start with the 49ers. I like the 49ers fun franchise very cool deep roster Coaching staff's gonna be there for a while. We found our guy and Brock Purdy I think Brock Purdy could be a fun thing for the kids I think they would like that going out for a trip to San Francisco would be nice. Anyway 49ers number one bears Commanders question mark, I don't know new ownership Potentially close close to the close to the family dolphins Miami's an easy flight and who doesn't like going to Miami The Giants who are in my backyard here in New Jersey The Jaguars the Lions the Packers the Vikings and now Mitch's Eagles I'm gonna make a case for the commanders. Okay, hit me. I Think it's like almost the equivalent of an expansion team now New ownership it could work. It might not work this year. If it doesn't you're gonna have a new coach potentially a franchise quarterback coming in next year if they Don't get better and then Like they I know it's not a quarterback But like they have some guys that are probably gonna be around for a while, you know Like Terry Mclaurin Jahan Dotson that defensive line, you know Chase young Montez sweat Doron Payne Jonathan Allen like again, these aren't quarterbacks but like I feel like there's Like this is like getting on the train as it's leaving the station You know what? I mean if they were to I they got to change the name again My name's the problem. Okay. I don't like the the uniforms are weird. The uniforms are weird and I've actually gotten a pretty good ground swell on this the reason that I had them as a question mark as a maybe was because it just looks like they're wearing the salute to service gear all year and It is I've gotten military takes on this we Military people don't like it either. They don't like the commander's uniforms because they're like, that's us. We we do that They don't you know? I've started to become of the opinion that they should have just gone with Washington football team or Washington Football Club No, man You pay for the Red Wolves you pay for the Red Wolves and you make your uniform the one that that guy did on Reddit You just copy the whole thing Like all these guys Bring in all these executives and all this branding and they spend all this money in this time in this effort to create something That is absolutely Categorically ridiculous and like there's a guy on reddit where if you just DM him and you were like, can I just buy this? For $10,000 from you like random graphic designer, man. What would he have said? Of course. I just don't like understand how Nike made both the Chargers new uniforms, which I think are fantastic Excellent and the Jets which I think are such a downgrade over everything else. They've worn before Yeah, talk about like how is that possible that the same company made both those sets? Yeah, you know, yeah Go back to Puma NFL I think Washington is a weird choice. I See what Albert's saying that it's like an expansion team But I think it's impossible to separate from the history of the team and I think there is gonna be Sort of this shared feeling of the people like when that team eventually gets good again There will be this shared community feeling of hey We were the people who were here all along and because because it wasn't just that they lost it was the way they were Really laughing stocks and just examples of so many things that are wrong And so I you know, I I think I think it's a tough time to hop on that That was the Patriots like that's how I describe the Patriots. That's not what they were when I was growing up they had the sexual, you know, or the Sexual harassment scandal like I'm don't know if you guys know about that But like there was like a Boston Herald reporter that was harassed in a locker room There were all of these things that were wrong with that franchise like in the late 80s and early 90s And they got new ownership and turned the corner which is why Robert Kraft's up for the Hall of Fame You know, I I don't know like, you know, the other question I have here to Connor is do you view? like a Brand being a historic brand where the fans go back like four and five generations is a plus or a minus Because this is like that moving train argument, too You know what? I mean? Like that you said with the Steelers like so I like I'm basing your criteria I'm not quite sure where to put like the Giants and Bears or those are like fan bases that go back generations and generations And so you'd be sort of would you view that as like? Oh, it's really cool to root for one of those teams or would you be would you view that as I'm infringing in something? That's been established for so long. I'm not a part of that packers Packers are on this list to Giants Bears Packers are all yeah Packers there, too So they're they're all in this list because of entry point I think it's an okay time to get on the train right now because they're not great they're good at best and I can pretend to be a Giants fan. I have masqueraded in public as a Giants fan before I've pulled it off and all you have to do to be a Giants fan is you have to Just talk about how you guys do everything better than everyone else, right? And so And then just have a blind loyalty towards Eli Manning as a half-decent carry carry yourself as if you're the classiest person in the room at all times and Pretend that you didn't constantly talk shit about Tom Coughlin because now Tom Coughlin is revered and I remember all of you guys complaining about it and Anyway, I can pull that off. I've pulled it off before I have I have gear for both local teams because there has been situations in my life where I've had to go out to outings and it just felt easier for me to be Enmeshed Tom Coughlin the only coach in NFL history to get fired and then be seen on the company treadmill couple months later Hey, man as his replacement walks by in the morning got it got to keep got to keep those got to keep logging those miles Connor how important is the coach to you in this and part of I ask is because you mentioned Like a trial period with the Eagles in 1999 and that would have been a great time to hop on board because that's right at the start of Andy Reid Donovan McNabb I know it didn't end in a Super Bowl, but those are some really fun years I can say as as an Eagles fan they were in the NFC title game all four years I was in high school and it was like it was a good time to get in on the Andy Reid train early So I'm looking at some of these teams with young interesting coaches. I mean Mike McDaniel Is sort of number one on my list here because I think the Dolphins are sort of sneaky intriguing even though they You know, I mean depending on how you feel about whether two is going to be there long term Compared to like, you know I don't want to insult to of it compared to say Trevor Lawrence who's in this category where I think you look at Trevor Lawrence And say okay, he's gonna be there a long time. But some you know, some of those teams I mean table I think is a good reason to pick the Giants but You know Dolphins Giants Niners, how important is coaching to you coaching is very important and it's interesting Like Mike McDaniel is too cool. I think for me I think a lot of people are already and I will say as someone who reports on the coaching industry Mike McDaniel has been on my coaching list since 2017 maybe 18 you can look it up. I was saying all this stuff, but now he's become too cool I think he's too popular. Well, I I feel like I was hit on the Mike McDaniel really early, too So we're kind of like you you know what? You don't want to be Connors like the fan of the indie band who abandons them when they become popular What's happening here? That's the thing because you can rub it in people's faces Hey I had this first which I will say I have absolutely done with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs Because you I hopefully you guys remember I've said this a million times, but his first year as a starter I picked them to win the Super Bowl in our staff picks and I said, oh easiest way to win Super Bowl is having a kick-ass young quarterback on a rookie deal and I think the Chiefs have it and there is a Chiefs blog That made fun of me and unfortunately I wanted to be the only one on the Chiefs Robert Klemko also picked them and they wrote like a blog post That was like, can you believe two Sports Illustrated writers picked the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl? But I'll say even before that I was laughed at there was an SI fantasy football league His rookie season where we did the draft in the office sitting around a big conference table And I picked him as a rookie even though everyone knew he was gonna be behind Alex Smith And I was like, no I want this guy in case he sees the field his rookie season and I have been telling everyone for what six seven years now That I was on Patrick Mahomes first, you know the more we workshop this The more I think there's a team in this group of ten that fits the criteria and Vikings Well, let me finish the coaching point first because I think there's one thing that disqualifies McDaniel LaFleur O'Connell, I'm weary of like the like Like the hot young guy.

"And general manager Martin mayhew could very well move up. We've always had that when we've been in a giraffe when it comes to the trades and everything like that. That's where Martin takes over. That's one of the things he does. And we've had full autonomy in terms of making those decisions. So that's something that we'll continue to do. "I look at the eagles, but I also look at the eagles, you're going to lose some guys, free agency, you're going to pay her all that money. Right. Is Kelsey going to play, I mean, the offensive line, lane Johnson, like these guys are getting up there and so I don't think this is a dynasty. I think they got some really good players. I'm going to be curious of how long they can keep them and continue to play and you lose both of your coordinators there as well. Right. Now they got to uphill battle. They're right. And you said it all, right? I think you unpack those details correctly. You know, we've seen the chiefs can orchestrated, you know, with the quarterback contract and they know how to develop young talent. And, you know, and your point about the AFC and how tough it is is totally real, Dan. I'm with you. I mean, there's no clear cut right or wrong there. I think the AFC, we might be getting into the mid 80s, early 90s conversation almost where it's like, okay, yeah, Kansas City is the main team, and then hey, the bangles win one, and then the bills win one, and then hey, it's Kansas City again. And then, you know, almost like it was with the niners, the Giants, the Washington Redskins at the time. The bears, the cowboys, you kind of knew it was gonna be those type of teams, but you know, to your point, I'm interested to see what magic Halley roseman can work there in Philadelphia once again and, you know, I just am a believer in that greatness of the chief's football team to think they'll be back, especially with that guy at quarterback. Why does Eric Vienna have to leave the chiefs to take the same job with the commanders? He's like, it's like it's a gift and a curse, right? Yeah, it's a gift. I get to work with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. But nobody gives him credit for it. And I think that's why I think maybe this, if he can go somewhere and man, I love the fit with the Washington commanders. I love the fed because you think about what they got, right? Dan Terry mclaurin Curtis Samuel Jahan dotson, right? Antonio Gibson are running back. Even Sam Howell, he's gonna throw the deep ball and move a little. That's a lot of things, Eric Vienna may can get people motion and shift it and going all different places. So, but I think that if he did it and went there and a place like that on his own and had success, people would run out of some of those excuses they use against them and, you know, my other thing is maybe Eric Vienna has to play the game within the game a little bit.

"So we have the commanders at 24 here in our power ranking. But like I said, we talked about it with a Panthers at the end of last show. This is a team that has legitimate postseason aspirations. I don't think they catch the cowboys. I think they, if things break right with the quarterback, you can put them in the conversation with the eagles even with Chase young being a question mark, probably gonna miss some time early on this year. So we are at a point now in our countdown where we talked about it with a Panthers at the end of last show, these teams should add playoff aspirations. I don't think the commanders can catch Dallas in that division. We'll get to that later maybe, but I think if the quarterback works out, you could be in that class with the eagles, you could be pushing for a 5 seed in the playoffs here, even if chase young is going to miss some time early on in the season. Yeah, this is what we're rebuilding them as last year with Fitzpatrick, almost like a bogus Buccaneers. If the defense was healthy, because you could rush the passer well. I think you're going to be able to run the ball better this year than you were able to run the ball. Any time before that. You're receiving course theoretically better. I think you and I both thought that Jahan dotson thing was a little bit of a reach, but given the market reality, so maybe that wasn't the worst. Decision in the world that they made, I don't know, but you know, it could be like this weird thing. All these teams, if you catch fire, look at the Bengals last year. If you catch fire, you have a chance. And this Washington team, I think they're coaching staff is good enough, the raw talent is good enough that if they got things rolling downhill for some reason, could probably back their way into a fringe playoff spot. I will say that about them, but I will not say that about a couple of teams that might actually be ahead of them on this list, which is weird. Interesting. Okay. You wanted to see me miss swinton? "I mean, I rarely have heard a team trash talk a player while they were trying to actively trade him, like the colts did with Carson Wentz. Yes. But if he was still in indie, I think you could squint and sort of be like, okay, well, you know, first year there, he missed the entire preseason because of the foot injury and, you know, we could have something going in year two here, and they were just like, nope, you're wrong. You're all wrong. We have to get rid of them. Yeah, and I'll have to see if the timing lines up on this, or it might have been right after they traded him, but even the owner, Jim Mercer, comes out and is like, oh yeah, we had to, we had to get away from that. The commanders and you did that deal and you're just, oh my gosh, really? What is he talking about? I mean, I feel like we've said this AD nauseam at some point. I feel like you agree with me, right? If you get Carson to play in structure and use the athleticism for good and not evil, I think he can be a really good quarterback. And maybe you go out and you get Jahan dotson like they did in the first round of the draft and you hope that by virtue of his play extending ability that he elevates some of these speed guys and Terry mclaurin is obviously excellent and Terry McClure now probably is the best quarterback that he's ever had. And Washington? Is that yeah, maybe? I mean, certainly 'cause as far as ceiling, yes. Does he get near that ceiling though? It was like an injured Alex Smith. It was Taylor heinicke. Who else am I missing? I mean, did he have a year of Kirk Cousins? A half game of Fitzpatrick. I don't think you had no. No, I think he missed Kirk Cousins. So yeah, I mean, maybe you buy your Terry mclaurin stock here a little bit. But that's the team's deal. Otherwise, you know, if you want to get into the larger scope here, their owner absconded congressional subpoenas on his yacht and there's a lot of that stuff going on. Daniel Snyder, such a boatsman. Yeah, the two things that terrify you with Wentz. One, of course, the fact that the two organizations, the two coaching staffs, that knew him best, one benched him in favor of Jalen hurts. And the other, as we know, just had no interest in trying a second year with him, Frank Reich's group up in Indianapolis. So that scares you, even setting that aside, what makes you nervous is this offense wasn't great in structure last year. You had the taxpayer Taylor heinecke really created some things out of structure last year to get them through some third and mediums and stuff like that. And that's just not what you want. You don't want Carson Wentz trying to create. Maybe a couple years down the line if you get it back on track and then you can start maybe building off of that. The spine of kind of your standard quarterback play, but you need to have him very much programmed to play in structure right now or it just has meltdown potential that is utterly terrifying.

"We got to throw the ball to somebody. They have to throw the ball to somebody. I don't love the QB situation, but man, that guy is special. If he can stay on the field, stay healthy, I get that he had like 6 injuries last year, but man, he is, he's got something special. Hopefully he could stay healthy because he does have that top potential. Yeah. You just love to have in a young wide receiver on your dynasty team. All right, so after I made my pick, it was Jahan dotson going after that to team 5. Team four went Ryan Tannehill have fun with that. Team three went Mike gise. And they finally took a quarterback. Their first quarterback. Oh, good for team four. Must be a Titans fan. Team two Rashad white and rob, you get to close out this mock with your tenth and 11th round picks. All right, let's see. Where do I want to go? I didn't have anybody queued up here. It kind of starts to get a little, yeah. I was just going to say at this point, but this is almost the point where there's not a lot of wind now guys left. So I probably would just look for a younger guy to balance out some of the older picks on my team. I will say that if there is a win now guy on inferior lock at our feeling to me. Yeah, I could agree with that. I mean, I'm just looking for the young guys. It's like it's David bowell. I don't know that he's ever going to give you the Adam Thielen top potential production that feeling has gotten you, maybe Alec pierce dogs with indie. Rondale Moore, John mache, yeah, you know what? I think I talked myself in the just going all in on this year. We're going for the one. Awesome. So you still have to make another pick. Yeah, so we went 11 rounds, so we drafted our ten starters with two quarterbacks and 8 flex positions. And then we wanted to be able to draft a third quarterback, like Ryan already took his third quarterback early. Yeah. So I'm going to go quarterback this round.

"I think Washington could surprise people, this is the best receiver group Carson Wentz has ever had in his career. He's got Jahan dotson and Terry McClure two really good receivers. And John Dodson is a jump ball receiver. He is fit to work with the strengths of Carson Wentz as a quarterback. And remember Carson almost won the NFL MVP in 2017 before I got hurt at the end of the year. He is highly capable. I've got a head coach I like Ron Rivera well respected really good, a good defense. I think it's gonna be better if they get offensive support. So the four teams it could come out of nowhere will say, I don't know if that's true or not, but teams that could be good that weren't good last year, the Vikings, New Orleans, Miami, and Washington all for different reasons and reasons that I find exciting and cool and I'm pumped about I'll add one more though. Here's an off the cuff one. Maybe the Jaguars. Doug Peterson made some moves, they're building or Trevor Lawrence, Trevor Lawrence could be way better this year with more stability and better weapons around him. It's very possible that the Jaguars really truly would come out of nowhere. But Tennessee's got Ryan Tannehill at quarterback, who is kind of suspect. The colts are good, but their offensive line, I've watched some cars and went to them. They're not as good as I thought they were. Matt Ryan's getting older. It's possible the Jaguars can put together a really good year. They could truly come out of nowhere and win that division and shock the world. My ears are ringing. Again, it's so weird using, yeah, it's not the headphones. It's just my ears are ringing. I'm using totally different equipment that I'm not entirely trusting of yet. And I hope it's working. I hear myself and my ears and I see that we're an hour and whatever inter recording. But it's a bit nerve wracking to record with stuff for the very first time. Carter writes in and says, the lion should sign Jimmy G sign them to a reasonable deal and give him blowout reps when gough inevitably has terrible games. If a contender loses their quarterback before the deadline, ship them off for a third, if not the Lions and the Seahawks could offer him the same deal with the same idea. This happens in hockey, basketball and baseball, it's time the NFL tries it out. So when you're losing by a lot, you put in your backup quarterback, let them do well and then trade them away for something valuable. It's a solid idea..

"Straight trading backwards from 12 to 32. For what they got. And for what that point of the draft was, because look, you could say whatever you want about drafts, but they always have tears. And there had clearly hit a point in that draft, was there was the one awesome receiver left, even though he was coming off the ACL injury. And then you had two more really, really highly regarded defensive players, and they were going to go in some order, 12, 13, 14. And I just don't understand why you would trade out of that, especially when all of these teams wanted receivers and what you saw a la Vega, you know, what just with the saints paid just to get him, I didn't get that at all. I still don't understand it. Yeah, that was one that was certainly a little bit perplexing, especially trading with a team in your own division in the Detroit Lions to make that move. I like who the Lions went up to God. I like their strategy in general. Now, that's not to say, I don't dislike who the Vikings ultimately selected and they thought that there was some value there in making that move. Louis scene is great. I just think you have to get if you're going down 20 spots, I have to get a first round pick back. That's the history of the draft. That's too many spots. You're going from top 12, we're about to drop off, I need a first. That's the price to do that. And they just didn't get it. Well, there are certain GMs, and I'm not saying the lines team has been there for a while, but there are certain GMs like the Vikings GM. First year guys in the door and some of these guys are not getting the right type of value as they should on some of these trades and GMs like Howie roseman are taking advantage of them and some of the other GMs around the league, taking advantage of some of the more youthful, less experienced GMs that are looking to make moves. And in general, like the common thought processes, you gain value by trading down. Like it is a plus EV move because you're going to get extra picks in doing so and the draft is so difficult to hit on a specific player that having these extra arrows in your quiver will provide more upside, big picture. And that's why generally speaking, you do get more value in doing that. But the Vikings move, I agree, it was one of the more perplexing trade downs based upon what they got in return. Well, especially during the year when the receiver getting the receiver on The Rookie contract was like the new inefficiency because of how crazy the receiver prices got. So even if the lines have to wait, I don't know. To a week 11 for Williams or even next year. It's still worth it. If that guy's a number one receiver, you see that. Exactly. And if you look at the wide receiver run, was basically ended there after crystal lava, like the last guy on the board that was viewed in the same class at the top of the first round is Jameson Williams. After that, it was like Jahan dotson and treylon Burks, who obviously, I believe, the run on wide receivers pulled them up the draft board as well. No question. Nobody thought that John Dodson should be going 16 overall. And yet he was because if you need a wide receiver and all the other guys have already been picked 12, what are you going to do? So that's why those guys got shifted up the board, but that pick at number 12 had so much inherent value at that time. The value increased over that pick as soon as the saints took Chris olave at number 11. Yeah, and that's why I didn't get it. And that, you know, I don't go crazy, but oh my God, I can't believe they took this guy here, but it was just so clear that we're about to go crater. One last thing on the rest edge, you said, since 2015, teams that had a legitimate rest edge, 92 of this is home favorites of three to ten points since 2015, rest edge. 92 and 38. Straight up, 70, almost 71%. And then against the spread at 70, 58 and two. Those are real numbers. Well, those are not only real numbers, Bill. Look at the comparison when you talk about equal rest or rest deficit to see, does this actually matter? I will tell you this. The NFL tries to say that this is a minor thing. This doesn't really matter that much. And so if that's true, we should be able to look back at historical data and that's why they probably don't want to look at the point spread element of it. But the point spread is the equalizer that we need to factor into context. So you had equal was 45% and if there's a deficit, it was 40.8 against the spread. So we went from 54.7 to 45 to 40.8 if there was actually a deficit. Those are real numbers. Those are definitely real numbers. And the reason I'm segregating out home favorites of three to ten points is because we want to look at the team that is viewed as better. The better team in general should have more of an advantage if they have a rest edge. They should be in a better position because think about it like one of the reasons you guys end up doing pretty well, you've got a great coaching staff. You know how to prepare the players if you have a short Thursday game, you know what needs to happen? Whereas an inexperienced coach or a bad coach may not know the right strategy to get this team ready for a short week road game on a Thursday night like Belichick does. And so looking at home favorites of three to ten points generally we're talking about this team is viewed as the Betty market as the superior team and double digit favorites are generally speaking terrible, whether you're gonna look at, rest edge, not rest edge. So you could include them if you want to or you could take them out like I did is really not gonna do a make a difference to the general comparison which is these teams that are viewed as the better team by the Las Vegas betting market when they play at home. If they have a rest edge, they're covering the spread almost 55% of the time. If they have equal rest, it's down to 45% of the time. That's basically a ten percentage point differential. And then if they have a deficit, even though their viewed is the better team, they're down to 40.8% ATS. As you said, real numbers. These are things that are different speakers. Different major digital especially with a tease too. If you're getting, if I know I get 55% to cover this straight up, then I know you hate teases, but you're never going to make me a house quit. If I get that on a teaser number, that maybe that's up to like 75%, something like that. Just to win the game. Easily. And I think the difficult part for somebody listening to the show right now is, okay, so you're telling me these numbers, but how do I know you told me the big picture rest advantage? How do I know on a per game basis during the season who's got the rest edge? Because most of you already know. Most people aren't sitting at home like running these calculations. What I will tell you is I am planning on this year in the book. The 500 page book for every single team chapter on the very first page of that team's chapter. I'm going to tell you every single week if this team has a rest advantage or a rest disadvantage in that game. And that.

"People are saying that he was a little bit overdrafted. If he's gonna be drafted 32nd overall or 16th overall, does it really matter? I think he's at first around talent. I love Johan Dodson and when you pair Jahan datsun, a guy who's got really good ball skills at high pointing a football catching some of those Carson Wentz Yolo balls pairing Jahan dotson with Terry mclaurin is a home run. I love it. Can't wait to see them play together. It's gonna be great. Oh, and there's another small move that Washington made. They drafted in the 5th round, a quarterback that I call quarterback insurance. Sam Howell, if Carson Wentz does not become your and develop into your franchise quarterback, Sam Howell is a really talented quarterback who at one point was viewed as the best quarterback in his draft class. And was the first round pick. So I think he's the first round talent in the 5th round at quarterback, well done by Washington. I think when it comes to some of the moves they've made, Washington has potential to have a really good off season. All right. Let me drink some water, then we'll get into this topic that I can't, I care about it enough to talk about it, but not enough to get my compassion. Maybe I will get angry. So this past week, Tennessee's quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, said some words that made a lot of people really angry. He said it's not my job to mentor Malik Willis. That is the quarterback that Tennessee drafted in the third round that they are hoping could eventually replace Ryan Tannehill. When Tannehill said it's not my job to mentor Malik Willis people freaked out. Oh my gosh, is a bad leader. Terrible guy. Not the kind of leader I would want, and I'm not gonna argue with you and say that this is the best example of leadership I've ever seen. A player who's not gonna help a player beneath him. But let's be clear, Ryan Tannehill's job is to be as good at playing quarterback as he can be..

"To keep the D.C. area moving. All right, let's go to the bad teams. The teams that did poorly, the teams that should feel shame as this week unfolds. We have three of them here. They got D or lower, and we are starting with the Arizona Cardinals. And we touch on this a little bit in the first round show that we taped on Thursday night. Gosh, the Hollywood Brown trade. And maybe it works out, maybe they unlock something in him that just wasn't going to be unlocked in that Raven's offense. Certainly he knows a quarterback. He knows the system, but it's a high price to pay at a time when everyone's paying a very high price for wide receivers. Yeah, I mean, you just sort of, you know, you swing into the morass of this and it's like, I don't know, I mean, did you not, did you not think AJ Brown was available? Like, did you not know? Did you think that, you know, because for only another third round pick or presumably if you wanted to spend a second to leapfrog the eagles, but were you in on those discussions? And you're going to have to extend, you're going to have to extend Hollywood Brown to the level that you're going to have to pay him with the eagles are paying AJ Brown because you have no choice, you know? And so I think that whole situation is going to get kind of dicey. But I just don't know, they just, they did get my Jay Sanders who you and I both really liked. I thought it was a good player. And so that brought them up from a D minus to a D but they just keep taking these massive swings on weapons, like all the time. And they're just wrong a lot. And so either the formulas in perfect or something is not right in their process. And they're just allowed to keep spending all this capital on receivers and weapons, which we said that they should do. In some way, shape or form because you're going to run air raid, of course, obviously. But it leaves the rest of their rosters just like not that good. It's not, so in the second round, and this was their first pick of the draft. They took Trey McBride, the tight end from color state. And probably the most likely scenario is he is the heir apparent to Zach Ertz. But do you think there's any chance they try and do something different offensively this year? Do you think maybe you see some more too tight end sets? You have earth there, obviously. You have max Williams as sort of a blocking specialist. And now you drop McBride in there. And I don't really know, especially with Deandre Hopkins, suspended for the first 6 games of the season. I don't know how you are going to make that air raid offense work the way they ran it Kingsbury's first couple years in the league. Yeah, I mean, the McBride thing just doesn't, I mean, he didn't pop for me like some of the other tight ends in the class pop for me. And I could be wrong, you know? I could be totally wrong. But I don't see it. I just don't see, I don't see how that makes a whole great deal sense to me. And all of a sudden, you're going to do what you're going to do, you're going to come out in 12 personnel, and then what does that mean for Hollywood Brown? Are you signed ostensibly to really star in like a three or four wide receiver personnel set? Well, let's go to the Washington commanders. We talked about this one a little bit in the round one show as well. Jahan dotson goes with pick 16. They had traded out of pick 11 to come down and end up taking dots and sort of at the end of that receiver run. It was dots and then trail on Burks at 18, but I mean, look, if they loved datsun as a prospect and it works out, no one's going to no one's going to furrow their brow with this anymore. But it just seemed like, I mean, you said it. It was like they could have stayed at 11 and landed Jameson Williams and that felt like a much better pick than John Dodson. They moved down and just ended up downgrading pretty significantly at the position they wanted. Yeah, so it just seemed like bad GM ing on that one, right? It didn't it to you. It's like, okay, you could, you know, you could have gotten more for some other team to come up, I think. You know, I don't know if maybe they didn't, maybe that's why they just did what they did. But there were so many teams that are desperate for those wide receivers there. It felt like the board was misplayed a bit. And did you really have Jahan dotson close to Jameson Williams on your board, which would surprise me? I don't know. And then they just missed their chance and I think a lot of really good players. I don't know. I just thought the whole thing was misplayed. It smells like it. It does. But yeah, if dotson was the top of their board at that point, I guess they're perfectly happy with that. Yeah, I don't know. It's weird. It's a franchise that doesn't have a lot of glaring needs outside of quarterback. And if you felt better about Carson Wentz, then the guys available in this draft. And I do think that's reasonable. I think not everyone would agree with that, but I do think that's a reasonable take. Yeah, it's like, I don't know, this was kind of okay ish, I guess. Yeah, I mean, you know, you're going to take a long flyer on Sam Howell, but I don't know. I mean, you know, the one thing Mathis, I liked, I mean, I think that he probably just got caught up in the Georgia hype, you know, and probably got knocked down like a half around just because, you know, he wasn't, which is crazy to say about an Alabama player, but just not like his ogled over or his watch when Georgia has those two defensive tackles that they had. I think maybe in another year, he's like an end of the first round guy, you know? But again, I mean, you're strengthening a strength and overwhelming strength. You know, if you're the commanders, that felt like more of a luxury than anything unless some of those guys are going to leave in free agency and you're doing some long-term planning. Brian Robinson, he was smart. I do think they need that every down back. In that offense to make the run game work, but I don't know. Like you don't take a corner until the 7th round, you don't really do anything to help your defense until Percy butler. The back end of your defense until Percy butler in the fourth, so I don't know. I mean, Ron Rivera is one of those, you know, maybe he knows his guys, but I don't know. Let's wrap this one up with the Vikings and their D minus no F's. But the Vikings get a D minus. Better than a half plus. You know what? You know why I don't give F's is because then people just like people who do the team specific blogs, they will pull them out and be like Connor or gave the Vikings an F and then I wouldn't want like Andrew booth to read that and be like, oh, I think I'm a crappy player, you know? I don't think that's nice. You know, I think it's a college player that we don't know how they're going to translate. But I just think you could have gotten more. I think there were other teams that were looking to come up and what you got an additional third round pick out of it, right? To drop like 20 spots, which I thought was not great. No, I'm with you. And I actually like Louis scene and Andrew booth, the first you guys they took. As prospects, and obviously that addresses a need that they have there and rebuilding that defensive backfield, but it was why they went from 12 to 32 and didn't pick up a one for next year. Which is just not really good enough. Yeah, I mean, and you can correct me from wrong. I don't know if Detroit might have not had a two. Did they not have did they not have a two? You might be right. Yeah. But it's like at the same time. It's like, okay, then get something else, right? Yeah. I.

"Ten minutes, ten minutes, sorry. Sorry, ten minutes, ten minutes. All right. So here's what you could do. Here's what I would do if I was Andy Reid. You key up like you just have the entire like you know that the war room camera is on, right? And then you just have the entire staff. This would be like a Belichick thing, right? What's like a good show that lasts like diners drive ins and dives, right? 'cause with no commercials that runs about 22 minutes, right? Okay. Yep. So, you know, you have it fast forward through the intro and then you get on the clock and then you just bang an episode of triple D you know who you're taking. And so you just have a guy with the card in there and then you just have Guy Fieri playing in the background for 22 minutes. Like a random episode where he's in like Montreal eating corned beef, you know, and then just like a nice little middle finger to the NFL and, you know, noma get mad at Andy Reid for doing it. Like Andy Reid would do it, it's funny, you know? If one of us do it, it's destructive or dark or. Serial killer. All right. What are we doing here with this pick? Outside. Are these picks outside of watching triple D? The chiefs are weird, right? I mean, I think if you're Andy Reid, you've done so much work, right? On the offensive line, I mean, to me, I would go wide receiver defensive back in some sort of combination here. I think you would go defensive back in a way that like maybe a guy who can transition positions a little bit. Like you got to replacement for tyrann Mathieu, but I don't know if you got a one for one replacement for tyrann Mathieu, right? I think you need a guy that can diversify the system a little bit. Or you take an explosive wide receiver. And I think any receiver is going to come in and you're not going to call him tyreek hill, but you're going to have that issue. But if you've got Jahan dotson out of Penn State, like I think it's that similar short-range quickness. Like I just think about that three ride receiver set that they line up right where they do the two quick slants and then the out that tyreek hill runs and you just bang them near the sideline and he just runs around right to the pylon. Dotson could do that for you. You know, I think he could be in there fairly quickly. And maybe some elements out of the backfield too. Let's do that. Let's give him datsun with this first pick here. And then let's look at the defensive backs with the second pick because look, you have daxton hill, the safety out of Michigan who's really, I mean, he's an overhang guy. You're going to play him in that over the slot there..

"A really good idea. Maybe it's an ego thing. But I think from an owner's standpoint, it's exciting to have that kind of over time with the two point conversions deciding things after a bit. It's also short so you don't need to pay players even more. It's relatively quick to solve that problem. So I really want the NFL to steal this type of over time with the two, hey, try a little bit. If it doesn't work, let's do two inversions. I just hate having ties. I really, really despise when two NFL teams tie. I think it's wrong and silly. And I have more to say right in on Patreon if you want me to break down further. My idea is about the NFL adopting a college football style over time. Now here is a crazy reality in this pen state, Illinois, football game. Illinois ran the ball 60 7 times for 300 and 57 yards. And Illinois had 38 passing yards. And again, they went to 9 over times. Here's the final stat line for the winning quarterback in this game. Arts at cascade Illinois was 8 for 19 passing with 38 yards zero touchdowns and one intersection. Illinois running back chase brown had 33 carries for 223 yards and a touchdown. And there are other running back Josh and McCrae had 24 carries for a 142 yards. Ridiculous. So it's a big win. Unranked Illinois beating number 7 Penn State. This came right after earlier in the week, Illinois head coach Brett bilma. Made comments calling out specifically as offensive line and his quarterbacks. He seemed to basically say, hey, don't blame me. The former coach of Illinois, and that former coaching staff failed at recruiting and we're terrible at player development. So he pointed the finger at the old coaching staff and said, don't blame me for the struggles we're having this year. And clearly there's a disconnect between how the players feel and then how the way the media covered what Brett be on the said because it seemed like the way people wrote about it like Brett biome through his players under the bus. And you would expect if the players were thrown under the bus, they would mutiny and would not have beat a number 17 in the nation. But Brett Beal must team on Saturday fought hard and they won. So I wonder what's really happening. I see all this reporting. I need to listen to what he said, but it was like, I wonder if behind closed doors, Illinois, there's more going on. Because I was surprised at how hard and how well Illinois fight given the fact that their coach is supposed to hate them all. So I'm like, well, is there a disconnect between the media and the way the players feel probably that often does happen? Now, the only other thing I want to say about this game is that Penn State has a stud receiver Jahan dotson. And John Dodson is a jump ball machine. And I find it shocking that Penn State had 7 plays from the three yard line. And none of them were a jump ball to Jahan Dodson. Why are we not giving him at least one target? It was weird. You go through all these overtime periods and Johann Dodson never gets a fade ball in the end zone. Why? Well, I was very weird to me like a big missed opportunity and certainly Penn State had opportunities to win. They get nothing to blame but themselves. But that was a weird one I'm like, huh? Why are we not calling that play?.
