"The people in your book are mostly forgotten as you know, but at their time they were household names. Can you tell me briefly about Dorothy Thompson, John Guthrie, HR knickerbocker, and Vincent Sheehan? Absolutely. So Dorothy Thompson amassed a string of firsts. She was the first American woman to run a major overseas news bureau. She was the first American foreign correspondent to be kicked out of Hitler's Germany in 1934, and she was the first woman political columnist to have a syndicated column, political column of her own. And in the late 30s, she's reaching 8 to 10 million readers with her thrice weekly columns. John Gunther makes his name with a book inside Europe published in 1936 that this taboo breaking behind the scenes account of the foibles of European leaders. So Hitler is given to crying Jags. He reports and has as Gunther puts it an Oedipus complex as big as a house, Mussolini is very superstitious, and so on and so forth. And this is a huge book of the time. It sells more than a million copies. It's not just a bestseller in the United States. It's also a bestseller across Europe. And it's a book that makes Gunther's name. HR knickerbocker comes from Texas. He's born in Texas. And he's the son of a southern methodist minister. He always carries a Bible in his suitcase, though he can swear in all of the major European languages. He's reportedly the highest paid foreign correspondent in the world, as I said, mostly working for William Randolph Hearst's international news service and among other accomplishments he becomes the bet noir of Hitler's propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels. And then there's Vincent Sheehan, so she and is reporter he was working for a number of different outlets among them the Chicago Tribune and he writes a book entitled personal history, published in 1935 at wins the first national book award for biography inaugural award. And this book really captured the zeitgeist of the era in a way that no other book does. What she and his writing about is his own quest as a journalist. To figure out the relationship between his life and world events, or as he puts it, the one life that he has in the millions of lives into which it's cast.

"What do you attribute that to I have heard of various explanations grift corruption and the Russian military people stealing equipment old equipment poor training what do you primarily attribute that to Well you know I served in the navy jag corps for 30 years and just retired this year But I was not a war fighter I was a lawyer of two war fighters but my analysis is based on listening to people who are war fighters and who I respect And I think not only the things that you mentioned are factors in it But they're just not good at combined armed operations I think that was a surprise to the season hands at The Pentagon and retired military analysts that you would think that they would have perfected coordinating air land and personnel moves in coordinated operations even through multiple entry points But they weren't And God bless the Ukrainians and their love of country and their desire to defend their country and of course we've played our part we can debate whether we played enough of a pardon providing them arms And so is NATO But they have just not Putin's folks have not lived up to what we thought was the big bad Russian army And so they were creating they're probably pointing their attentions now towards the eastern Donbass region from all written reports I don't think that means they're given up on Keith and the rest of it And of course they're clearly engaged in a war crimes by indiscriminately killing civilians targeting children women hospitals And so however this thing ends Putin and his ilk will forever be branded a war criminal And that's people can't forget that

"You kind of got to look at who's putting it together, right? So you can't say that they don't have the bodies because they have more players dedicated solely to special teams than anybody else in the Ross than any other team in the league. Yeah. And like you said, if it's one thing you look at, all right, maybe it's personnel issue. If it's just a punt block, if it's just a field roadblock, sorry, maybe it's a personality. But it's multiple things. So you kind of got to look at who's putting it together. And I'm not saying that means that came accords like a bad coach. He needs to go. You know, special teams court, when he coordinate the offense, he coordinate the offense, right? You know, you're kind of, you got to work on the run game in the past game and this and that. But you're kind of working with one unit. Cam accords working, you know, to kick off unit in the punt unit. That's too completely different units. It's super completely different things that he's working with. Actually, they do have a special team's assistant coach. Joe Houston. So, yeah, I don't know if it's something as simple as he's overworked, but that's kind of what I look at. Special teams is there's a lot of hats to wear when you're those types of teams coordinator. There's a lot going on. I've honestly just side note, I've always been surprised that it's just one of these come in, but yeah, most teams do have like a joke Houston or when Joe judge was a special team's coordinator here at cam accord was his assistant special teams coordinator. So I think the Patriots usually have me. Like, I'm saying if it was me, I would probably have a kick-off coordinator. It just works on kick-offs in returns. I would have three coaches. I would be kick-off coordinator a punt coordinator in a field goal coordinator. And I'd basically have one guy who set on designing both sides of the ball designing the looks for each of those individual units. It clearly clearly guys can do all three. It's been done. I've always been a little shout out to special teams coaches, you know, they do a ton of surprises like that. There's a lot of people talk about special teams coordinators at that probably the best preparation that you can have for being a head coach in the NFL is having a coach special teams because you really learn the entire roster. And you really learn the domino effect of if one of my guys gets hurt, that plays on four or 5 different units. I have to replace it with potentially four or 5 different guys, right? And you kind of learn the entire roster one for 53 and one to 46 on game day and you have to really study the ins and outs of everybody's strengths and weaknesses and beyond your game. Another thing I would throw out there hasn't been the best year for Jake Bailey either. I regret your year for him after the RO season a year ago is that I know J Bailey has been on and off the report. Maybe that's something that is more physical than anything else. But punting is rhythmic, right? Like.

"I think the other thing that I want to make clear, I haven't really mentioned Mac Jones is a problem at all in any of this, right? I really don't feel like he's the main issue or even the biggest issue. Does he have the strongest arm in the world? No, is he somebody that's going to be able to make these tight window throws 30, 40 yards down the field on a rope? No, he can't do those types of things. But I feel like if those downfield opportunities presented themselves more often and with more efficiency, that Mac Jones would hit the throws. I mean, look at they finally get somebody open down the field with Christian wilkerson and he puts the ball right on his hands, right? So I don't think that that's as big of a Mac Jones issue as it is the guys around him. But I think it's exacerbated by the fact that Mac Jones is not a proficient down the field thrower right now at the NFL level that he can't he's not going to take these three guys that are undrafted wide receivers and make it look much better than it is down the field. He's the only deal with what he's working with. Whereas at the short game, I think he can elevate the guys that are around him. So not a Mac Jones problem necessarily. You imagine Christian wilkerson a few times, I wanted to talk about him as well and then the kill Harry discussion to do you feel like you've seen Larry his.

"I hope the plan isn't just, well, it's easier to do nothing because, oh my gosh. I don't really understand. I don't know what Joe judge has done to deserve a third year in New York. But maybe they get a new GM and suddenly it's great. I don't know. But I heard the Giants were keeping Joe judge and Daniel Jones. And it went, well, again, there's a lot of job openings and there's not a lot of quarterbacks. So I don't understand it, but that's what they're doing and best of luck to them. Apparently. Number three, number three, what am I saying? Finally, the last thing I want to talk about today. Number tomorrow, noteworthy 9 ask Zach. There's one other topic. It's in my notes somewhere. Let's talk about the Jacksonville Jaguars coaching search. Apparently, first of all, I heard two names that I love. Love, love, love. In the Jaguars coaching search, apparently they are considering Jim Caldwell to be their head coach. They're also interviewing and considering Doug Peterson. Jim Caldwell. Is the last code you got the Detroit Lions to the NFL playoffs. I love him. He got unjustly fired. Doug Peterson was a guy who I thought did pretty well. One is super cool. I mean, good coach Mike McCarthy won a Super Bowl too. I'm not saying you're great suddenly if you want a Super Bowl but Doug Peterson of that got fired because the owner wanted more control and Doug Peterson didn't like that. They also the Jaguars apparently requested to interview both of the Buccaneers coordinators defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and offensive coordinator Byron leftwich as well as the cowboys coordinators. That's defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn, and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Now the guy, the name that got me excited though. When I found out that the Jaguars might hire him as their head coach. Jim Caldwell. Dude, are you? I really want to see Jim Caldwell make a return, become a head coach in the NFL..

"I can't imagine that any other team would have that many MVPs without making the postseason. You know, you think back to Alex Rodriguez winning an MVP with the Texas Rangers occasionally guys who Andre Dawson, I think one one with the cubs when they didn't make the playoffs. But for 5, in that kind of run, that's a great observation by UP K and it makes you understand a little bit more why they went so hard in. I know a synagogue trying to build that pitching. They've been lacking. That's tough for angels fans. Reggie Greenfield and mine has a nice little hypothetical for us. He writes and buster could part of the solution to overly dominant pitching and the lost money during the pandemic, be a massive expansion in 1969, the league win from 20 to 24. So the lead could truly if it wanted to go from 30 to 36 teams now if Major League Baseball charged 750 million per team that's 4.5 billion in expansion fee money, go into places like Montreal and Portland, moving the athletics and raise, you create 8 new markets and make Major League Baseball a national sports league again, divisions of 6 and 6 would work perfectly. What do you think about Reggie's hypothetical here? Reggie, you went way deeper than my brain has in terms of expansion. But you're right, in the years in which expansions come into play, you've seen a pitching performances go down. You've seen offensive numbers go up. I think as soon as we get the next labor deal, you're going to start hearing about expansion. Where they're going to work quickly toward getting the raise and the Oakland situation settled, and once that happens, then you're going to see two expansion teams. And it's going to be for a lot more than $750 million to be my guest. Don Irvine is up next at Don Irvine, Don writes in what kind of stat line would know a synagogue need to have in 2022 to make his signing by the angels success. Oh, he's not gonna throw a ton innings. I'm guessing it's gonna be something in the range of like a 130 innings. I think if he has like A380 RA, you'd sign up for that if you're the angels. I know their perspective is that they feel like they need some high end pitching to go along without tawny. They had a lot of option in the marketplace where it's like number four number 5 type starters. And if synagogue is right, they feel like he could be more like a number of front of the rotation type guy. Matt Spiegel at speeds, one zero two 7 rates in, if there was an award for best overall coaching staff, who would you have voted for this season? Well, if the voting was done at the end of the regular season, you definitely would have to give that to the San Francisco Giants. They won the most games. If we include the postseason, I would vote for the Atlanta Braves. And we've talked in the podcast though, we feel like that is a real weapon for those guys to have such an experienced group of great coaches Ron Washington Rick cranach, the hitting coach. I love south asano. It was a catching instructor, EY, Eric young, none of them a long time. That is a great coaching staff. Elizabeth hart at ehart tweets writes in no one ever even mentioned Charlie Montoya as manager of the year, candidate, but three home sites later, he got the Blue Jays to within one game of making the playoffs. If they were in the NL east, they would have won the division. Why no love for Charlie? Yeah, Elizabeth, you're right. I never mentioned him. I tend to when we talk about the awards they tend to talk more about who I think is going to win it. And I never thought that he had a chance to win it because if there was a winner from the American League east, there was going to be Kevin cash. If that makes sense. You know, I think it was an advantage for dusty baker that the Astros did what they did. You know, Tony La Russa, we talked about because the White Sox ran away with the division. I just didn't see a path for Charlie to win because again, if the vote went to anybody in the American League, it had to go to either to Kevin cash or to Alex Cora given the improvement of the red side. Does that make sense Taylor? Oh, yeah. I mean, he's just in a tough spot. It's a bummer. Yeah. Last one, for today, spends 30 at B spends 30, 32, Spence writes in, what are the reds doing? Can't see Castellanos coming back and they seem to be dumping salary at a time when they should be competitive, frustrating. Yeah, it feels like that bobcat cellini their owner is setting himself up to sort of redo where the payroll is with all these cutbacks and trading Tucker barnhart, you know, moving his salary out, there have been a lot of conversations about whether they'll move a Luis Garcia, Sonny gray, it does have to be frustrating and it doesn't feel like that the reds are doing anything to close the gap on the Saint Louis Cardinals. It feels like that they're just trying to cycle through and look into build the next wave behind guys like Jonathan India. Already, that does it for bleacher tweets, hashtag bleacher tweets on Twitter and please follow rate and review this podcast wherever you listen.

"Of marketing, different colored uniforms, different names on the front different games on the back. Major League Baseball is involved with it. Certainly the NBA may be at the forefront of it. Yeah, they were, there's no doubt that there will be many fans who, look, with all the respect, I still called Boston garden, the Boston garden. There are many buildings that regardless of name change or sponsorship or minus back. You still refer to them as in fact, I heard people still refer to San Francisco's home ballpark as candlestick or as PAC bell or as AT&T. Sometimes they call it Verizon, even though it's never been named horizon. So all these parks with different names, you tend to follow back on the name that you're most familiar with, they will always be people who refer to Cleveland baseball team as the Indians. That's just that's just where we're at and where it's going to be. Yep, you're a 100% right. Let's talk about the MVP voting that was announced yesterday, Shohei Ohtani, look, we talked all summer about why he probably was going to win this award. Because as Joe Madden said, this is a performance. We might not see for another hundred years who knows going forward if he can stay healthy. So he wins, I wanted to talk to with you about Bryce Harper. Because to see his emotions after he won that award yesterday, I thought was really cool. You know, this is someone who's been in the public eye since he was 15 years old. I thought at 22 23 Carl that he had some kind of rough edges of a young person when he was with the nationals, and then what I've heard from all the Phillies people since he went to that franchise was this is a guy who gets it, right? He joined that franchise at massive contract 13 years and fully embraced everything that that team asked him to do. To become the face of the franchise. And so when I saw his reaction yesterday, I thought, you know what? That's really cool that a guy who absolutely was fully invested in all events gets paid off. And has it come to fruition? All of his efforts and way beyond what his OPS was for the Phillies. How about you? Yeah, I mean, look, you know, go back to when you were 22, go back to when I was 22. I didn't have rough edges. I was I could cut people with my edges. It was so bad. This is the benefit of being around these athletes for the majority of their playing careers, which needs a majority of their lives. You know, many of us are lucky enough to start this process, this journey with some of these kids when literally they are 12 years old. Let's look at Cody Bellinger, who sat on a set of baseball tonight and literally World Series when he was traveling. Cody Bellinger still has some rough edges, you know? There's no doubt about it. But would it shock and wouldn't surprise me if in three, four or 5 years, Cody Bellinger is an MVP and his persona is radically different than what I've seen at 12 and at 18 and a 21. Let's see where it goes, but it is the benefit of being a part of it. I want to spend an entire day. Before Bryce Harper, shooting a Jaguar commercial. And I know if I sat with furniture today and did the same thing, the conversations would be different. The attention to certain aspects of the day would be different. The use of his cell phone would be different. I imagine the people that he brought with him would be different. And again, this is maturation. It was my wife and I watched I played, I played the acceptance that he gave last night on my iPad. She was sitting on the other side and said, who is that? And I said, that's price. And she said, after listening to it, is he crying? I said, yeah, no, he's counting. He said, wow, it is amazing, you know, what happens to many men when they get married when they have children and again when they get older? So he's mature at least ripened in a sense, and you know, it's great to see. I think he deserves it. And he looks like he brought up Australian when somebody earns a contract like that. The responsibility is not solely your performance on the team. And many don't understand that. And some really struggle with it and when they don't perform on the field, they tend to regress into sort of a cave like mentality because I'm not doing what I'm paid to do and I'm not gonna listen, you try harder. It kind of spirals out of control. But there are, I think other obligations that come with being the highest paid player on the team, one of the highest paid players in the sport. And yeah, when he was with Washington, the maturity was sort of cunning when he signed that he was Philadelphia. It took another step. And yes, there is a part of being the face of the franchise. There is a responsibility to go over the minor league seals. And there are obligations you have within the community. And, you know, you just realize those, as you get older, and he's he's done a fabulous job and yesterday was, you know, the crescendo of that circle that he's, you know, he continued along. And I'm delighted for him as a person more than I am as a player. I think all the accolades he'll have as a player forever..

You want to be in on that platform with your team and your teammates and do that. I'm definitely humbled to be part of that group right now. "Would be a and play. Volume may not be as as we want those numbers to get over to mash on the cincinnati side on the bengals on the jaguars are not just revenge guarantee for joe. Marvin jones started his career with the cincinnati bengals. And it's a revenge game for mar garden. I stalled the number one receiver for the jaguars has been A guy who's were seen stem eight nine targets each and every game. I'll go over his reception crop. Which i believe is five and a half his yardage prop. You could be touchdown store as well again. That assing matchup was made easier for trevor lawrence and the jaguar. Jessie bates and she'll be a rouzi. A or both going to be out so again meyer urban meyer earthy smart which i'm not so sure is but he is probably the best way to attack cincinnati through the air because their run defense has been surprisingly -scribed the first three weeks season I think trevor lawrence is due for a turnover. I don't like leyla juice. For an interception but my word. He's got what nine turnover or something like that already. Three games this season by looking at the offense on the jaguar side. When you got yeah so just to piggyback on your march as my favorite profit for him is over twenty four and a half yards for his longest reception longest. All season is no less than thirty four yards so he stretches the field. And as you said not higgins tonight. He's going to get a lot of target. So that's my favorite martinez. I'm with you on nixon. I like over eighty five and a half rushing yards again. He's carried the rock sixty seven times in three weeks I like Over nineteen and a half carries. And i like under two and a half receptions he is not being utilized in the passing game only seven targets in three games and only one target last week against the steelers. So i'm going under. Can you believe it. i know i know. Tell mike clay under might claim. Explain to me. Because i i rarely unders which i should. They win more frequently but nonetheless. Underdo and a half receptions for joe mixing for the jaguars james robinson over twenty two and a half receiving yards. He's running routes on seventy percent of the drop. Axes finally out of urban. Meyer's doghouse in the bengals. Quite soft against pass catching running backs out of the backfield. And i do believe that the jags going to be playing from behind in last but not least trevor lawrence. Over one and a half touchdown a one and a half interceptions. Sorry and you can get that plus one twenty. Trevor lawrence is i in turnover worthy plays on. Pf i on turnover worthy worthy plays and he has multiple interceptions in all three games. And i do believe it continues tonight so over one and a half interceptions it plus one twenty. Those are my two jaguar. Prophets are i nothing really interest me much in wnba or major league baseball as the seasons mining. Now we're getting ready for the postseason so loosely thursday. I hopefully that satisfies in.

Florida Appeals Court Rules in Favor of DeSantis' Mask Mandate Ban

"You put je mask on you. Pick jim ask off. You put your mask back and forth. Shake it all about yet. An appeals court ruled friday. Keep governor to santa's parental mask option. Not his mask mandate or his right band. Not it's not a mask ban. It's a parental option in place. Which means that they can now withhold the salaries of school board members and districts that are requiring face coverings for all students. I would assume at eight o'clock this morning. All of these schools will be served in person with papers find at least thirteen school districts including florida's large sixth-largest. That's palm beach broward. He doesn't he doesn't waste any time. And he's not the kinda guy who just makes some sort of veiled political threat you will follow through. He went to harvard. Su he was a jag attorney and he knows the law and he knows the laws. He wouldn't do this if he didn't think the law was not behind him. Yeah you're right right the double negative all right well and it's the whole cabinet the legislature behind him to they're not messing around with this thing and i'm telling you where's the backlash from parents. I'm sure it's there. It's just we're not hearing from them. Who are so mad at their school board for playing chicken with the school board funding. Yeah it's irresponsible the other thing is that vaccines for twelve year olds. No you cannot do it. Because they don't know what the dosing is right the approval though no it doesn't even have approval they don't know how to dose it but in yet the l. which which is la unified school district. "And they both actually have something in common right. Awesome defense quarterback ceiling extremely low with like no volatility They're never going to be good enough with their quarterback to win a lot and they're never going to be bad enough with the town on the roster to lose a lot and i think done in washington or both in that way mirror images of each other even though they share They don't share some other characteristic. So that's kind of how. I would play denver this year. I don't think there is a valuable win. Total bet on them. Because i actually think they're gonna land around this ton but with no upside. Maybe a playoff berth. In which case. I bet against them in the first round and so then all kind of extreme outcomes that are positive out of the equation. They're not going to have the worst record. Almost any part of the time versus a lot of the other teams. You can bet on so. That's kind of like the denver tucson so far this season i don't necessarily holes and i'm not saying you're saying it is the washington comparison because i think fits a major volatility like the bridgewater's not going to go out there and throw five interceptions but they're almost so good that it doesn't matter. I guess i would be like my argument. I'll guess what can where we're gonna find out yes. We will get the answer to that question very quickly. They're just going to allow so few points. Like i just like even by making mistakes just makes games close games like yes you could be. If you play ten three point games you can be on the wrong side of all time. Like i i i understand that i just i kind of you. These teams differently. And it's more about just the ceiling completely coming down on both of them in terms of what i think they can be as a regular season success story basically imagine imagine a world where like drew lock is not your starting quarterback and you had the opportunity to take just deals drafted patrick's amazing it. Just won't get a hydrophobic this year in all likelihood like a floor almost too high and you start teddy which means the floor is definitely higher than it would be withdrew luck you price yourself out of getting the successor idem. Basically and ser tan might be great. It's not a criticism. It's just a poor poor asset allocation for what we saw with john. Elway george patton and the denver broncos this past. Nfl try. Maybe they thought they were gonna aaron rodgers with almaz anyway. This player prompts look weird. Close out on the broncos again. I've given a million takes on the broncos this year last last week on the show. So we'll get some player props teddy bridgewater passing yards. Three thousand one hundred seventy five and a half. Do you think bridgewater is going to start off..

"And houston has either. Tyrod taylor a davis mills. That might be my analysis so not guaranteeing. I'm going to jacksonville. I reserved the right to change my mind but man. I don't know i kind of feel. Jacksonville is going to beat the brakes off them. And that's more a commentary on houston than it is comments to the jacksonville. Jaguars you better you bet. Back in the kostas can barclay wrapping up our three days here talking about now. Denver broncos now ken. I'm going to give you the floor here because while you were off gallivanting on pain pills tweeting about everything in sight well not doing the show. I was busy working. I was busy providing sports betting analysis of the teddy bridgewater news in enter. My take was very simple. Cam bridgewater lowers the hypothetical ceiling. That could have been unlocked. Unintended by drew. But i think raises the floor and i think it takes extreme outcomes out of the way for denver in terms of losses and wins. I think a big step for more likely to over their win. Total this year of eight and a half with teddy under center for a bunch of reasons. I gave out last week so might take pretty much out there already. So really want. You'd empty the bucket because while you were out last week. This is the first time or listeners. Viewers left hear your thoughts on teddy being the starting quarterback in denver so win total rivers eight minus one twenty to the over plus one forty four to make the playoffs plus seven hundred win the afc west. Can your thoughts on teddy in the bronx. Yeah i think and for people who listened very early in the show. I think i gave sort of a miniature version of this. We ended up talking about it when we talked about the denver giant's game in week one and how to play denver this season. But i think it applies to a season-long standpoint as well really defensive-minded head coach. I would argue. Probably the most likely to be fired at season's end probably not during the year. But i think it's kind of interesting underperformed a lot in both years teams. It's a quarterback of consequence a franchise quarterback. I think they're going to play a lot of one score games as a result of teddy being named the starter. So i agree with you kind of in terms of the ceiling floor michael jordan argument about like they just become so it seems to me maybe slightly above average would be a good way to describe denver this season and it also consistently slightly above average. Feel like that's also part of the part of the charm of this team and and why we might be able to make money betting on them or against them. Because as i said earlier in the show. They're they're probably gonna find themselves. Small favorite small dogs and a bunch of games. You lie gave us some of the look ahead For some of those sorts of their first five games we can start there so at the giants at the jags home against the jets home against the ravens at the steelers I believe the spread was under three and three of those five games. At least i think it was three and a couple And we'll see where we closes that against the giants i think jacksonville's rating has a tendency to go a lot a large way one way or the other in the first few weeks as we get more information. But if we're gonna play a lot of project to close games then..

"Been a blast barclay back around you better. You bet. Continue to tweet can your kind words or don't add lucky larssen on twitter or stop or or or say. Hey man you know it was great when you were tweeting up a storm last week but still not working on the show. Leaving nick to fend for himself. Brask ago go with with a new co host every day new technical system. Here's ken tweet about college. Football and anything else. That comes to mind bit. Sorry guys can't do sorry guys. Colin wilson joins us in twenty minutes for the action network. Talk college football week. Number one to wrap up zero our next hour including the five days of laki college football pigs for week one courtesy walkerton and our major league baseball pigs tonight and that culas five-star place okay. We'll get to the denver broncos in a second here but as promised let's wrap up our conversation on the taxes and the jaguars can by discussing the week number one in houston where the jaguars two and a half point favorites on the road in. Houston yeah i think there are two. I wouldn't say competing angles because town of two competing thoughts about this game. The first is one that we've gone over almost to death on the show. But it's worth repeating because i think it's valuable information. There are types of valuable underdogs early in an nfl season and some of them go without saying for the most part visiting underdogs of some type Tend to be very valuable earlier like a week. One two five one two six the that in terms of parameter one type of underdog. That is not doesn't have to be home. Road doesn't require any type of specific designation is division underdogs weeks one too and it's the first month of the nfl season we wanted to five ish. Division underdogs The last ten years or seventy four and forty five against the spread. We have two of those games. And we won with miami new england and this game jacksonville in houston so you would look at that trend. You would say okay at least kind of neat to think about houston here. Division teams early in the era very valuable houston's at such bad press such bad publicity the entire offseason and they're widely regarded as we did a segment on as being the worst team and they're playing a team that showed us nothing. I your head coach for sure quarterback. Just incomplete generated by hype. Basically they find themselves home dog the game. So that's one side of the argument the angel on the shoulder saying bet houston like the transcendence valuable. But there's generally a team. And i think i think it might be houston this year. There's generally team either every year or almost every year. Where and you. And i have done this before where week five weeks. Six weeks seven-week eight but we watching whether it's nfl gambling content or we'll see on social media and everyone will say the same thing like the sharp side..

"Play video games on twitter. Because i actually have i. I'm like sort of a closet. Twitch not like. I'm not obsessed with it but it is something that i actually have. You probably more frequently than a lot of people. I like a lot of like the video game streams on there to watch also twice a year. The games done quick marathons which are awesome. You know i'm into this as well as speed running. Some will be like mario sixty four and like thirteen minutes. It's insane watch these things so there are two summer games done. Quick and awesome games done quick twice a year there for doctors without borders. And it's like a seven day. Binge twenty four seven of various people who are like you have to understand like these are people who like. Here's a twenty two year old who has devoted a decade to mastering like super mario the lost levels country to or yeah or like you know negative paper boy for gameboy and like that's all he's done for ten years tan like they are one loser or like man you have. You are really good at paperboard. You're really good. And how yeah just the detail oriented nature of these people are just. It's unbelievable but they all play the game at their best at basically they sort of like twenty four seven so definitely watched that twice a year. If there's a new game that's come out that i know i won't have the time to actually buy play like when the final fantasy seven remake came out There are a couple of streamers that gonna play that man. I know i'm not going to. I just no. I'm not going to know. I still haven't beaten cusack like a dragon. I started literally ten months ago. I still have beaten it yet. That's that's really something. I just just not going to have the time so sometimes if if a streamer that i like is picking up that game i'll watch like either afforded version of it like going through some breaks or or just watch them play but at least it'd be like..

"Projecting them to win seven more games than to go under six and a half this year. I think trevor lawrence is too good. I think this is not a roster. That's devoid of talent like they've got talent caught up on both sides of the ball. I'm not insinuating. This is like twelve point. Team got contend for afc championship certainly not contend for super bowl championship. I don't think that's going to happen here. I think the team is too good and plays in this division to go under six and a half wins. If you told me we would switch the jets and the jaguars and yuba jacksonville in the afc. East with miami new england buffalo under all day every day but in this division here with the tennessee team that i like but is flawed very flawed. I think defensively could be flawed in the run game with derrick henry like historically unlikely that continue the dominance. He's had on the ground with the colts being a team. Can that you and i think dumpster fire potential the houston texans being a team that everyone with a pulse thing says dumpster fire potential. That leads me to want to go over on the jaguars when total of six. And a half and you know. I like that. Division bet as well for the reasons outlined at plus fifty. I want to quickly touch on three receiving props here. We don't have running back props because we don't know what's gonna happen with robinson and high with e. t. n. out for the season. Dj shark eight. Seventy five and a half. Marvin jones said she wants marvin jones. Eight twenty five and a half and la viscous chenault eight hundred and a half. My favorite of these three receivers in terms of upside is chenault by a long shot. What we've seen though thus far in the preseason and training camp is that chenault is unlikely to play unless it's three wide receiver sets and then you're going to see viscous journal. I don't know if he's going to be one of the starting receivers into wide receiver sets. We don't know. Dj charge is going to be one of the starting receivers in too wide receiver sets. So i think there's too valuable best to be made here. As far as the receiving core goes with the player props. Dj under eight seventy five and a half as easy as it gets for marion reasons. Urban meyer is talk crap about chart this off season. I don't like dj shark this year under for him. You can't bet chenault overrun. I like the talent but like is going to have that role to go over. And i think he's going to run the ball a lot. Also and marvin jones with daryl babble the familiarity. They're coming over from detroit. I think he's going to be lawrence's number-one option so chuck under marvin jones over twenty five and a half gallon for some receiving props for the jaguars. Yeah no love. That hadn't heard that analysis going in the player props quite as much as you didn't know that the chart urban meyer relationship was that was that chart literally said like chart played small last year finger injury now like i. It's up to be bullish on chocolates. You're just as he walked around. Walked around the keyboard michigan outfits. Does i just really not a deer himself to coach all right. So that's the jacksonville. Jaguars two hours down two more to go on this monday. Power hour still come all our beds for tonight but two days three days continues next with the broncos and.

"How was your week kelso i. It's it was insane live. I'm just being totally. Like i think that was for both of us. But holy cow how we relate. Yeah i am sitting here on a lunch break just pounded chick-fil-a ready to talk some cowboys. I too had some chicken nuggets today. So feels like we're very much on the same wavelength so that's a good start for friday. Love that journey for us truly Okay so we've got the final preseason game and it is sunday urban meyer and the mighty fighting trevor lawrence's I was gonna say indoor gardner menchu's but i'm pretty sure it has been bad. Yeah is it sad though. That like so much has happened with us. In this off season that i just kind of forget. That ruben bagger and trevor horn through their dude. I'm telling you it. I mean first of all how long has urban meyer. It'd be there because once they start losing games like he might have some issues that he has to go away and deal with because he doesn't like to lose in that is coming from someone who is in ohio state. Fan kind of so Ohio state fan of jason adjacent. Yeah it's all about awareness. Okay that's really the key but Yeah i mean it's kind of wild that we are finally here and and honestly it. I kind of did forget myself. But it'll be weird for me to watch urban meyer coach in nfl. I just it doesn't feel real real yet. And i'm just trying to think like if we have to go down the list of college coaches who have been successful in the nfl like like really truly. I wonder where the stats lay. Because we all know. The savin was terrible. And but you've got you've got cliff. And i'm just like where. Where do we think we lie on. The spectrum of is it successful transition from college to nfl or not. Because i'm not sure doing loved quick though yet. I've i'm unsure. I'm i think he looks like ryan gosling so like he gets points for me for that alone. But we'll just kind of like when he went into texas tech and he was the new hotness like is he really good yet. i'm not. I can't say for sure. Is he really good or insolently. Just really cute like yeah probably the latter. Will he be. Everyone's halloween costume again very much. We'll see home. That's that that's going to be the truth rush on if we think that he's successful or not like if he catches on culturally in the league. Oh yeah i mean she didn't ncwa. So unlike i'm kind of waiting for it. yeah. I think it could happen again. Like drug twice. Yeah i mean listen. I'm here for it as well. He's basically i mean. I don't really know how much work he's done. Because honestly all he's done his straight up taken over the houston texans team so it feels like eating a little bit. He's like let me let the texans do all the work. And then i'll take over not that that's a good strategy by the way i mean i. That's one team. I would not be try to follow suit with but whatever where floats your boat. They had their. They had their moment like a while ago. And ever since then who are they. What do they do. They lose like heartbreaking fashion and like the they ended up losing in the third quarter like. Just let's let's get hundred paniagua on the line for that one watched his face. Crumble is why we get so much joy off of tormenting our friends in there. It's so rich coming from us like cowboys fans where technically technically we really haven't had a ton of success in a while but yet here we are like you know. Sticking our tongues out like k. Listen just so. We're clear y'all are the worst. It's fine it's paying it. Misery loves company. Big truth speaking of which though because houston for never but also bunch of florida men are coming to town and i feel like they are the the red headed stepchild of houston because florida men are just a different breed so You know it's a noon game on sunday. And excuse me. That's it's gotta be boring like i'm i'm yawning. It's gonna be boring for a couple reasons. One like i feel like this is just not a sexy matchup and especially in the preseason right so yeah but then of course. Let's throw in the cova protocol problem. Leaving us without cd. Casey connor williams carlos and swag daddy dance swag that the dan let me just really quickly. Say this i really you it as a missed opportunity for hard knocks that we haven't had more dan clinton. Bq storylines like why enquiring mind. Maybe he's just like to cool. I feel like that probably is the truth. Because i found out i was actually at the facility yesterday. which by the way I actually had a really fun. Interaction with with bones and He or wait. Did i call him there on thing. Why am i fi-. Yeah no i was done. We call There's a team photographer. Who's been around forever. James in we call him bonecrusher. And so i was here for a second anyways. I might want to look into feeling that but yeah sometimes But he first of all. He's just as lovely in person as you would think he. He think he is. I don't know why i was talking about that but I are you giving him your two cents about kickers or i was about to but then i decided that i the season hasn't even started yet and i'd like to not get kicked out of the facility in band yet especially just i dunno. I've for some reason. This team has decided to keep me around for like twelve years at this point in like i what gives but Speaking of though it really does like special teams is like is. Just be one of our main storylines. Obviously we'll talk about the quarterback situation. Because i'd needs to be discussed i. It is kind of funny when like we're over here. Talk about high. Nick ralston like you know the full. What's his plight going to be. This is where we are in the season at this point you guys. We all know that they have to make their final cuts to on the thirty. First down to fifty three so it really does come down to guys have positioned flex versatility. Who's going to actually be a special teams a psych. Who can who can make the team and we all know an avenue for doing that and getting your name inc on that final. Thirty three is alive times when it comes down to the wire can you play special teams so you know i would be paying attention to that this weekend mainly for me though. I have to be honest with you. And i know we joke a lot about the quarterback situation meg. I'm concerned. I think i'm concerned.

"Or their O t a practice. What is that deal? I don't know. The story does not explain what's going on the Jaguars 49 years and Cowboys have all been fined. For organized team activity violations OTAs or the voluntary practices that we just had, which a lot of teams canceled. The Cowboys fined $100,000 Mike McCarthy was flying $50,000 Have you told me Mike McCarthy messed up? I believe you Okay, I believe you, but they practice in their fake punch a lot or something. But the school fig podcast. Come on. It doesn't It doesn't specifically say what they what they did wrong. Cowboys ordered to forfeit one Oh to practice during the first week of the 2022 off season, the Jags and Urban Meyer. Yeah, you got to clean it up because his penalties were more severe. Jags fined 200,000 Urban Meyer fined 100,000. They were ordered to forfeit to practices. Well, they were probably in full pads for urban's first Go came in. Line them up. Yeah. Oklahoma drill. As Lumber Prices Climb, DIY-Ers Cut Out the Middle Man and Mill Their Own

"The price of lumber has more than doubled over the last year so concern consumers with home improvement projects are looking for ways to save. One of those ways is extreme. Do it yourself. We're talking about milling your own lumber. Emily swing reports from anchorage. Hans styles spent the winter building a sawmill from scratch in his garage. Water saw mill. I can make a lot of stuff with it. They also need to learn how to weld. Dow sawmill is about half the size of an upright piano today. He's cutting dozens of boards to build garden boxes. I he rolls a nine foot log into place and then was born the ear plugs. Because it's kinda loud then. He fires up his mill guides jagged metal blade through the long dow spent three thousand dollars to build a sawmill. He'll save thousands on future projects a shed and a bench maybe a dresser

"ESPN APP with field Yates and Mark Herzlich. I'm Eliza Lang. The Bucks get the win over the Raiders by a final of 45 to 20 and the 40 Niners put away the Patriots 33 to 6 the final in that game, the chief still putting in work on the Denver Broncos, 43 16 the score of that one with just a few minutes to go in the fourth quarter. And with a little over six minutes to go in the fourth, the Jags on the Charger's still getting after it. The Chargers leading 39 29 over the Jags. The Jags, though still threatening the charges recently adding a field goal to extend their lead to 10. Do you guys see the Jags making any crazy? Come back in this game field? Well, let me start here, my man. Just their Herbert has been awesome in each of his first four games. Awesome. And no one's given me any help. Here he is in his fifth game. He has been awesome as well in just a minute ago. As your reference, they kicked a field goal to go up 39 29. What? They should not have been kicking a field goal. 3rd and 3rd ID to Justin Herbert off a little play action. Fake looks around basically their version of Spider too wide banana. And I don't know that I've ever seen a drop as bad as this drop right here by the fullback. It looked like when sometimes in Madden the game glitches And rather than trying to catch the ball, the receiver just backed into the ground, like like he's mad like he's petty. He's mad. This is quarterback for some reason. That's what this will look like. And it's like the strength it must have taken from Justin Herbert to knock over there and tackle his fullback off. This bad drop is impressive, but not nearly as impressive. As Justin Herbert himself, so he is at least in shouting territory of setting the record for the most passing yards in the first five starts of any player's career. In NFL history. He's got a little bit less than half a quarter do so he's got a chance, though he has been the real deal and nothing but the real deal. So it's clear that field is on the Justin Herbert train. Mark. Do you have any love for Garner? Mensch? Youin the Jags on pulling this one out here over the next six minutes? Yeah, I agree with a group field field in really answer your question in terms of their possible comeback, But I think there's a possibility of Jaguars have really done it all. Game down Big early. Big 2nd 3rd quarter. They have yet to score points in the fourth. But you know, I think that I think garden mention has a little magic at all times in him. Will he have enough with 6 26 left on the clock? I'm sure but I think they'll score another touchdown at least. And you know, I just love these close games. I don't care if you're one in 51, and for whatever you are thes ones. They're fun to watch. As we find out every single week and remind ourselves every single week. Anybody can beat anybody in the NFL. It's true. We also we had a great great end to the 1 P.m. games. That's excellent. Think about some of the I lost my mind. We had the Browns come back. That was a huge win for them. We had the Matthew Stafford walk off, you know. Wasn't technically a walkoff touchdown pass he hit for those that may have missed it earlier on in the day, his tight end TJ Hawkinson off to tie the game, and then things got a little more dramatic because Tie the game 23 22 as we know. A couple of years ago, the NFL modified the extra point rules now with a 33 yard kick. No matter what. Well, they went with the Danny Amendola gets the personal foul penalty for unnecessary roughness, which made it a 15 yard penalty. Pushed it back to a 48 yard kick from Matt Prater. For those you that follow kicking And if you don't Start doing Wasting your time so far in life operators money, the bank often indicate an absolute boom shot to win the game. 23 2 22 so some great early action in the one PM slates. We talked a little bit about our Sunday night football game in the last segment. Speaking of great action, Seahawks cardinals is coming on at 8 20. But I didn't ask you guys your predictions. For those games. So before we get into Monday night football, we got a start on Sunday night football, hers. I'll go to you for Seahawks cardinals. Who do you have in this one in Glendale? I, like the Seahawks say. I think the Cardinals have done a lot and they're explosive on their defense is playing well. I just think that what the Seahawks have offensively is going to be too much. The Cardinals are so good at getting to the quarterback might my only issue with really good pass rush teams versa. Quarterback like Russell Wilson is the fact that he negates a lot of that pass rush prowess that defense has because he is so mobile. And not only can get the ball out of his hands quickly. He can just move around the pocket and just outside the pocket and make big plays down the field, So I'm excited to watch the game at the fun game, but I have Seattle in this one. Field. What do you think? So? I want to break some news to everybody. Okay? I'm like over my last 97 with game predictions, not you know what? Not that bad. Let me take myself off the hook. I'd like at least over my last six. So take this prediction with a grain of salt. Light bothers at this point, I mean, yeah, we need to hear. I mean, if you're picking, never mind. I got the Seahawks. They're difficult, Luke, but I got him. I got to see you tonight..

"I don't from New England and I know the way he thinks, and I know they're trying to do it with Stafford. But are we getting to the point there in Detroit where somebody's going to go? Okay. This just can't be our guy anymore. Shep in Florida, talking Jags on the grass show one of ship. Super excited about my JAG performance today got so tired of hearing about tanking all summer. Everybody's predicted the bottom of the division. Then she comes out as a great game. Got this Robinson running back. Forget about for net. Robinson's great Got Henderson quarterback He's the real deal is really super excited now about the season. You know you should be in part because the Jaguar ship were left for dead. There's no question So from from the human element, a man bleeping. Everybody tells us where this we're going to go be something else. It's good that the Jaguars boat up and gave you a little bit. Here's my worry about Jacksonville. Unless there is a clear breakthrough would garner Min hsiu and unless there is a clear Oh my God, we've got a superstar to on defense or Hey, man, this Minshew kid, he can figure out what we want to dio and trying to run the ball and be big and do the kind of stuff that you would expect from a Doug Marone football team. This is a good start. But let's just say they're two and three or three and three after six weeks. Do you really know what you are? Why? I guess when I look at Jacksonville, here's the thing. Are you going to find a way to break through and maybe 09 and seven to get back to the playoffs? Or in a couple of weeks or we're going to be looking at a two and two team and say up the schedule is going to get a little bit tougher, and this ain't going to be good. But I I know I'm doing some cross N B A and NFL references by dropping the old, You know, the NFL's James Harden is Matt Stafford in the same team. Just keep building around him differently, and you end up there with the same result. The Jacksonville Jaguars to me could end up being like the seven seed in the East or the eighth seed in the east equivalent in the N B a toe where you you're only a 37 or a 36 win team. But, you know, maybe you don't make the playoffs, but you know you're not good enough, but you're good enough to be in the middle. Like being in the middle. Does Jacksonville no good. You're better off being foreign 12 or breaking through and go in 10 and six because, like a seven and nine Jacksonville team, like What does that do for them? All does isn't of creating more doubt And that's why I think Impart the tanking came up with Jacksonville because you just don't you know is just don't no man my and shipped by the way, give Shep a follow on Twitter, please. At the Good Shepherd underscore he's got a lot of hot MBA fire that he spits there. He eats a simulant. Good, saying Staffer will likely pass Johnny Unite US and Joe Montana in touchdowns for a career. He's just 32 years old. You know part of the reason he's got all those touchdowns because his team's thanks most of the time, and he's either contributing to them stinking with some pick sixes or interceptions going the other way, and the guys got to put up touchdowns to have even a remote chance to win football games there. Do you know anything about how many Like close games Montana played in where it was a couple of touchdowns. Then we got the leading and let's just salted away and run it, whereas the numbers from ad staff are going to be a little tilted because it feels like he's constantly playing in games from behind week one off the NFL season. Almost in the books. The Rams have a 20 to 17 lead on Dallas. Of course, we've got two more games coming up tomorrow in the NFL there, eh? "For the jags jags. lane tonight against the Titans chili Ramsey expected by now this comes days after not only was he not only was he angry with the coaching staff not only was he on the sidelines a very vocal with Doug more on the head coach but afterwards we find out that he demanded a trade he is let the team know that he wants to be traded remember we heard from him that he particularly did not leak that story the Jack did now I always look it who leaked this story to trying to ask myself who benefits from. and in the league said we heard anything that makes daily Ramsey seem less valuable. have we heard any so like if your argument is you know what the raiders were contacted and they want to trade for jailing Ramsey so they're going to leak this story why would they do that and Lester trying to lower the value if you do that you link it with a jailer Ramsey wants out and he wants a massive deal that nobody wants to pay for now you're hurting jailing Ramsey's value we haven't heard any of that the only thing we've heard is that the jags want more and more and more the only thing that's happened since the story was lead is the price seems to have gone up so the only benefactor for the leak that I can find is the jacks is an agent told me years ago when you want to know where the leak came from figure out who benefits seems like the league benefits the jacks. with that mindset I can't figure out why they're playing in tonight. they're playing in tonight on a Thursday night game on a short week against the Titans I know they're playing in because frankly he's one of the best players and with him they stand a better chance of beating the Titans I get it. but what the repercussions the possible repercussions from this on and off the field there's two sides to it number one. what happens if governor desert you never want to play football with what ifs but how often have we seen a player's famously locked out of the practice facility one if when they find out they're going to be traded I'll go back to Steve McNair who was a legendary Tennessee Titan when you went to practice and the doors were locked no like no not you we're trading in. I mean they don't even want you in the facility to lift the weight because they know that you're headed out they don't have to pay the injury so if they intend to trade jailer Ramsey why would they put him on the field. and then the other side of it is what message does it said can we all agree at this point the jags are no longer who we thought they were going to be right this defense from two years ago that looked like it was going to be eighty five bears were the year in and year out it turned out to I don't know this year particularly play have has a lot of bad angles slot a bad play thank you indication that a lot of big talented personalities that is supposed to be incredible. they all look like they they they if we were doing video game football you'd want everyone of them all mad. but it's not turning into any level of team success and now you have jailing Ramsey going off on the coach on the sideline and that same coach is going to put him in the game. what message does that send to everybody else in the locker room I mean I get star players get treated differently I understand that but this message that's a strong one. I just want to get done around it is best I mean he did his best here this sort of I mean listen you know every every married guys ever heard is not what you say is how you say it right. listen to what he's saying but also I don't know for me for my money listen to the tone of how he's a it and see if you were in that locker room if you buy into the thought that Doug Marone who go to the jags in jail in Ramsey I really sat down and and had to come by section. I've.
