"I would say there are a lot of people who don't feel very safe in a Sri Lanka that actively discriminates against them where the state structure is such and the same would be for Tama people But while the atmosphere in the capital is largely peaceful almost carnival like the situation in the north is very different This area is where most of the country's Tamil population lives and where much of Sri Lanka's bloody Civil War was forced until 2009 between Tamil separatists and Sri Lankan government forces It remains an area where killings and disappearances are not uncommon And though anti government feelings there run deep protests have been much rarer There is always the fear of state violence historically protesting the north and east of Sri Lanka has always been met with different ways of crackdowns Is a Tamil civil rights activist based in the northern city of jaffna She argues that her community would not see the same kind of restraints from security forces that are so far been afforded to protesters in Colombo And there's also frustration that after years of marginalisation of protest and violent crackdowns within her own community it's only demonstrations involving the sinhala majority that are now attracting international attention This is huge And I really hope this is the moment But I think a lot more work has to be done by the majority community and by the state for it to get to a point where it becomes a struggle that we also feel we are truly a part of You know that we feel safe in our space with a voice and a political differences and demands Black at golf face in Colombo it's hard to deny that in spite of the many roadblocks ahead Sri Lanka's diverse population does feel united by a common aim At least for now Now we had the 30th of war and we suffered a lot Enough we want a peaceful country with good men That's it.

"Week has a wild story to share and ultimately turned his personal experience into a novelization that just hit the shelves a couple of days ago. Let's dig in. Hey this silence cast author of interrupted dreams. Well first of all. Thank you very much for having me on jaffna. It's an honor to be here. First ball all In terms of you know my story obviously on here from reading right so i went through a pretty vicious attack from that was the the ending of along years long battle of divorce that had custody issues and everything like that is Not completely typical with you. Know a lot of Erm oil prior to our divorce in a lot of turmoil during the divorce. Right so Ultimately why i'm here Is because at the end of the divorce at the end of the whole battle i was about to get custody of the peanuts and my ex wife was not Was not very happy with that. And she wound up breaking in and trying to kill me Pretty vicious attack. She woke me up with a with a atom police baton. You want to call it to the side of my head while of sleeping and then I jumped up. We fought A gun went off the ground And i stopped at gunpoint. She wrapped me up Well at gunpoint. She made me turnaround. Wrap me up at my bedsheets loves firstly hog-tied means flex ties wrapped up my bedsheets them and then sat me up and wrapped cling wrap around my head I wound up falling down Struggling fighting You know. And but eventually i did i was able to escape one of the flex ties with my with my hand or my one of my hands able to get out hole and then with one kick out of my leg. Restraints jumped up. There's another battle. I was trying to get the gun out of her hand. Gun went off at hit. It went the bullet when when it happened. I thought the bullet went over my ear But it actually went through my cheek and from my cheek and out the back. My neck miss my spine by about a about an inch. So is a pretty dramatic attack. I guess would it lightly. So i mean really. That's why i'm here right so that this happened close to ten years ago or so and you know for for long time. It's been a struggle to figure out what you know. Where do i go with it right. Because obviously i've been struggled to well struggling but at the time my boys were two and four. I obviously got custody them. She's in jail for fifty years..

For having me on today bleacher tweets already buster bleacher tweets for a wednesday. I up we have george franko george writes in the braves lost the pirates. Eleven to one and can't get any momentum on a scale of one to ten. How worried should sn it in the braves be and we should note. That was from two days ago or a dago because they lost to the pirates again last night. Two to one. How worried should they be buster. Yeah that was a tough loss. Last night i put it at about eight and a half to nine at this point according to fan graphs or chances for making the playoffs are something arranged at twelve to fourteen percents in keep in mind. We've seen the mets spent aggressively during the last county. Steve collins took over as as the owner. And you know that they're going to be aggressive leading up to the trade deadline. They're going to be looking. Extend their advantage. And the message got back jaffna gala mike conforto or slowly finding their way getting their swings back. Absolutely you know the braves between now and say july twenty fifth that are going to define whether or not they're going to attend this year last one for the day. Brian pickle nikki at. I don't know about that. Why is the derby and all star game. Always on a monday and tuesday. There would clearly be more views ratings if it was on a saturday sunday. Please don't tell me major league baseball does it. Because that's the way it's always been it's the mid summer classic not the mid week classic but ch- like the casting on that i would say this from the owner's perspective. What is absolute gold that they never wanted. Turn down our weekends in the summertime because the kids go to the ballpark and so those schedule various things during the course of the year. They want their weekend gold mines and so they figure you know what. Let the all star game on monday tuesday. Mid week people are gonna watch the homerun derby. It's probably going to be the highest rated In baseball amount of the year. People watch the all star game and then on the weekend in the summertime. He will go to the ballpark and the owners are not going to bypass that opportunities. That make sense sailor. Oh yeah absolutely. I was kind of wondering the same. As when i saw this tweet for from brian. But that makes total sense weekend. Gold mine. sounds like a knife episode title. Buster while you're the one who puts the titles on it all right that'll be what it is today. And that is it for bleacher..

"Welcome back to the show. So adam schefter saying today that there are people in nfl circles. Who believe that. The shawn watson will not play this season jamie. They drafted davis mills in round three. What's your your. Take on. The texans quarterback situation i think mark davis mills. Because you know he felt a little bit in the jaffna some people thought he could have been a late first round pick And they were able to get a monday to with their first selection. So you know for what it. Let's not forget prior all this happening. Maybe this was part of it. Knowing that it was coming that he wanted to be out of houston so If he does play in twenty twenty one he may not play as a member of the texans. So at this point fantasy wise I have him outside. My top twelve Think you can't go in drafting a star if you're drafting today. So he's probably gonna fall for a lot of people And you decide if you want to take the risk before there's any news but at this point you have to go with the assumption that he's probably not playing this season based on what has transpired from this offseason. If you're drafting today would you take brandin cooks or jomar chase. I still have cooks ranked probably too high for moving quarterback Letting the quarterback situation be what it is. So i probably chase. I bring clarity. So yes i would take a cokes. Five spots ahead of chase but obviously that's one where. I'm projecting it with the shawn watson so i will rank him lower than his projection. Gotcha green bay says. They're committed to aaron rodgers beyond this season going to be a bonus pot at some point so stay tuned. Cincinnati offensive coordinator. Brian callaghan say he does not want joe mixing to leave the field. I think i'm in love with joe. Mixon drafting joe mixon anyway. Either defense special teams. That's the thing if you get his field goal points though pretty good. Start them as checker. Oh yeah damn it. Yeah i just feel like he's going to have a massive workload. I haven't been rb seven. Whoa i dunno if i like them that much. Ever been joe mixing guy but it's always been because he was always this look at this talent. He's so good but the role was never there now. If the roles there in that offense has better. Like i don't know feels like it could be a rocket ship..

"People make these mental model mistakes where they're like. Oh yeah journey. That's a suffer customers. Maybe we just wanna customers and we had to say no guys journey. Everyone produces a service consumed by somewhat right so think of user not as a b. two c. customer on the web. Not just the bbc customer but whatever whoever you're building for right and that's that was hard for infrastructure guys. Their cloud guys. Like i just want build new you latest issues or make it easier. Access the newest latest features amazon. Or whoever and that's technically interesting. But what the people really cared about was one click deployment of productivity. Yeah and so. I think that was that was enlightening. Which is integration. Because it doesn't matter if you have jenkins in jaffna puppet doesn't matter if you're engineers can't put it all together. The other one is around standardization. Right as we were going on the journey by engineers being what the they just got kind of everything under the sun and that just as a lot of complexity may there's all these tools landscape proliferated Made everything harder right and beyond making everything harder we had to step in and impose standards for the things that weren't to franchise because what it ended up doing was consuming more resource by if you have Your tool landscape books too fragmented. We ended up more with just increased costs right. You can't setup. Coe's harder to actually administer right so you end up sucking up more time than that gets absorbed in the administration of tools again rather than developing towards capabilities. So that we started this yard ratios slip as well and so we had to say guys might for stuff. That's not differentiate. My please just use the same ticket management system. Just use the same orchestration tools. Because that's not ultimately beyond some maybe personal preference is not. It's not going to be what's the it's not gonna be. What differentiates you so. I think that that's a technology that that's those are the big things. Which is you still have to make sure you..

"The prepaid routine needs to be what we teach their status all the time. That's how important we think at the we have told there was only one thing that we could teach darren own i would pick the prepaid routine. It doesn't just show up on game day. This is the that the type of strategic making hat happened in practice the right type of thinking and the thinking that lead to the confident of jaffna yeah man and i think you nailed it because it really is. We're seeing that that when they grasp this piece of the game that it's changing game day results man which is ultimately what every player wants every parent one every coach wants and when they see it. And i think we're also seeing a lot of high level. D one coaches really starting to complain a little bit out loud or on social media about that. Kids are phenomenal athletes. The they're measurable are off the charts but their actual game days skills man their game ready skills the how they show up and and played. Baseball is is built into that. Pre pitcher teen. Its way all of this that that played the game at a high level. Do we were taught the game that way we were taught when we're ten eleven and twelve the they intangible piece of the game and then kind of the fiscal development came as you kind matured and grew literally as a person and what we see now is that we put so much emphasis on the fiscal development. Which is important. I'm not downplaying that but what we're missing here man. And i think we're starting to see some of that reverberation college baseball on pro baseball. Is that you know you're starting to see some the old school guys that are really hip to the times but man they understand how the is really played and and getting frustrated with some of the kids that are showing up on campus or spring training and really go under stand. The pure decision making process that goes into every pitch or goes into every batter. Every you know the in your jane. And i think that's why you know from what we've seen and the type of players that we work with that we want them to grasp that piece of it because if they do then what happens i think is there not so much focused on the miserable and it as they are now about what their skills are there mastered heels their mastered pitches and what it takes to go execute those in a real game so we get more out of that calm that comparing vince mindset and really get into that compete contribute mindset. Which is what every coach really wants and honestly it whatever player really wants so we really do got a kind of you know readjust the focus from you know. Is it a pure measurable evaluation or what happens on game day. How do we show up and play on game day and again is there an aspect of both absolutely but what we need to really drive home. Is that baseball is played on on game day practices practice and practice needs to be about. You is getting bigger faster stronger improving your baseball skills and mastering the skills that you're going to use a game but apart from.

What did you feel so I'm a public writer In writing in a red state. I'm in missouri and i write too frequently Ideas and things that challenge a lot of my readers here Humanely disagreed little Some of the things. I have to say and ever since the last election cycle the response to a lot of where i wrote got much more personal much more bigoted. Much more violent nasty. I think you know all all of us probably experienced that to some extent but And you know we're used to as journalists public writers. We're used to harsh criticism but it felt very different and I feel like i did take an emotional toll on me. And i felt like for the i. Guess almost five years because it started before the last election I feel like. I was really questioning whether the work i did even mattered. I was wondering if truth even mattered in this country. I wondered if people even had enough empathy to care about the stories. I was telling and honestly jeff i was ready to Look for different job or do something different. If this election it turned out differently. I had thought this all through. Because i didn't see any meaning in it and so there is so much and beyond being a muslim woman. A brown woman a south asian woman and mother I just felt like there was so much personally writing on his election for me. And so when i heard that it was official they called it. i don't know that i could even intellectually process that moment because there was such a physiological flood of emotion in my body.

So okay so this one this episode together pretty quickly because you know. We woke up this morning to some major news and after the shock of that and are quick twitter takes. I texted jaffna like yo. I think we got record episode tonight. So let's get some smart people on and let's let's do this so smart people welcome. What were your respective first thoughts when you heard the news and let's be honest here we've been we've been all just far too far out on that limb of wondering whether or not the future of our republic was strong aisha I mean how did it feel.

"Jack whitaker is join us in you if you'll give me another five or ten minutes longer with open up the lines <hes> then around the country jack when you do a major sporting events there's a lot of pressure and <hes> obviously a lot of preparation ration- it goes in for doing those events. Each one has its own dynamic. Its own the subsidies. Can you talk a little bit about the differences in doing different major sporting events well yes <hes> in in football. It became a simple thing just by the way we're doing television. Memorizing your forty numbers numbers and getting your matchups down and then letting your here color man do it became quite simple after a while and you would approach coach that differently you would just set up and make sure that you knew what all the matchups where where everybody should be at a certain time and they'll be tendencies on both offense attention defensive teams and then get out of the way like your color man come in <hes> <hes> do a goth tournament <hes> you just have to brush up on the new kids coming along and coming once so fast now you you have to do a little homework every week that becomes a different kind of of preparation and a different different kinda rhythm in the telecast <hes> for horse racing <hes> again <hes> <hes> you have to break that down to prepare <hes> in different ways you have to know obviously the horses and the records and their breeding jaffna the owner jefferson other trainers and you have to know the jockeys and <hes> each one lynne's itself into a different rhythm and a different way and after a while it becomes <hes> <hes> enjoyable to do the preparation in fact sometimes the preparations much more enjoyable than the actual telecasts is the sense of anticipation and a sporting event. You know what i'm talking about. They don't have that. You've got nothing you know <hes> there. You know you know the days when you say boy. There's no place else. I drive to be the right here and that happens of course curses big any big event. It's coming up. It happens every year the kentucky derby your u._s._a. Open or masters in happens occasionally football and baseball game. I am you know you say oh boy. I got some feeling today that this is where i really want to be. It's going to happen jack and one of the things that i know during the course of my career <hes> years ago i did the the end of the university of california stanford game and fortunately i was prepared for something very unusual to happen at the end of the game and of course probably the most exciting finish to a college college football game ever occurred in the exactly with many laterals everything and and yet <hes> you know..

"Life. Would you choose wrestling or stick with acting definitely Russell? Russell anymore. Spain fuel. I'm like looking at the what's the final portion of my career gonna look like. That's more outgoing. You see the scar here on his neck stabbed in Jaffna, what in with the light to stop. Yeah. Was alive at the time because his sends a big wrestler in the air, and they were cleaning him off. And he got stabbed in the neck and then ended up at cedars for good week and wild. They pulled out here and glass from the wound. Oh, yeah. They all the nurses were joking there. Like your wife keeps calling asking us to blood test you. Stabbed in the neck, fluorescent light. Oh, so gnarly gnarly that was really wrestling is not fake. Right. Like an watchings you watch glow yet. So guy. Yes, one of my friends is going to be on the next season. So I need to catch up. I'm so excited. But with just watching not show, and then I had a cousin who was a wrestler, growing up. I always thought it was more fake than I guess it is. No. I mean you can break your neck. I always tell people like if you can break your neck or die. That's real real. Yeah. Yeah. So how do you feel about him, like wrestling, or fighting is that something that you don't do after the neck incident? Over the wrestling thing, she's I just want it. And then, like I said to a girl from like he's like, mentally ill doing this. I mean I am kind of mentally. Giga side. I'm a freak like an extremist, you know, so I feel like it wasn't wrestling. It'd be other things in a way, the good part of wrestling is the commodity in the friends, and he's lost fifty pounds doing. Fifty pounds. Yeah. So we gained a bunch of weight, and my pregnancy. Support. That's so nice. I lost it. And he didn't. So he was like fifty pounds overweight going into it. And when you live with somebody, you don't notice like wait, but we look at pictures. He's like, why didn't you tell me like I didn't really want? It's gradually, you don't know that didn't notice, and I think I was like breastfeeding at the time sitting losing it, but he was like fifty pounds overweight. He was eating really bad. So he cut it all out, loss fifty pounds. So that part of it's really incredible. Yeah. And I don't think people understand about wrestling, like other sports, like wrestlers are insane. Like their life is on the road. They don't get paid a whole lot. There's health benefit. They're not these, like basketball contracts, and it's like a whole culture, you know, like when you go to these things, the fans are just so dedicated and it's just as whole world. That's so wild. So at the beginning, I was really negative. I was like you wanna do it again. Weird out forty eight. But now I'm like. Cheering. Everybody on. It's really cool. But this Docker doing is pretty. It's out there. You're producing. So what is that like being married and? Little things wants to do good. We got one fight not too long ago out wrestling, like, really intense. Just we both do different things. Right. Like super creative. I'm not an artist. I'm like a user mortar. Never. I'm more logical and I like do the structure and the schedules. And he's the wild creative one so casual like heads on. Yeah. And it might be like a screaming. Speeding that's for a second. Would you guys ever have your on? Reality show..

And you say is not gonna work twenty six and mimic can well, wait a minute. I'm not saying impeachment isn't gonna work. I'm I'm increasingly thinking could number one and number two. What do you think is going to cause that deflation of democratic enthusiasm to show up at the polls with the lack of holding Trump accountable? Is that what you're saying? Yeah. Not doing nothing about Trump, right? Hoping has to be done and something big has to be done. All right. I can understand hesitation on a beach meet because usually really good chance you'll lose. All right. You're not voting against Trump. They're going to get your first at a future democratic credit. You carry a national emergency over guarantees or over climate change. That's a good point against Trump. That's a good point. So your twenty fifth amendment. We have a panel loaded up with Republicans on the side, we have Bush Cheney, Dan Quayle, and Al Gore, you can't really use Clinton. Bronco bowl ball. Go is not a Republican Paul. I know okay. Three of them were we have one democrat. Okay. And then you give them a list of. Now, you're making him defend former presidents advice bridges. He's not capable of doing the job insecurity reports Yankee not capable greenie job. He's told me Netflix and shit. That's totally different than peach mint. Yeah. Really making in empty. There's no mechanism for doing that Paul yester- is or twenty fifty minutes says or a panel Carter shell impose right? But that that is after the vice president has written to congress and said. Been told me. I asked him to look it up. Yeah. They can't impose your peril because the regional. Woodrow Wilson advice prisoner was corrupt. It shows his panel. I thought the original twenty fifth amendment was because because what's his name died of a stroke guy. This is where you have the debate between the two that he is unable to discharge their upon congress. She'll decide the issue semblance within forty eight hours. "And then you if you have a winter wheat problem the time to put down a corn. Gluten in the fall would be September. That will putting it down. There helps prevent the warm season weeds. Putting it down September helps prevent the cool season weeds on okay? Have a good weekend. Okay. Thank you so much for calling in Jaffna. Appreciate your call. Let's keep going five one two eight three six zero five ninety. We have Paul who's calling in right now. It sounds like you're driving around this morning. Paul. Good morning. Tom. Good morning. I had a high biscuit that froze back last year. And then it grew from the ground. Yeah. Now, it's a giant plan again. But it didn't flower at all. No one wants to freezes back will it ever flower. Again, it should. And what I would suggest here is giving it a little bit of boost biscuits are heavy feeding plants. So east to have specialty high viscous fertilizers in the garden centers is I don't think you need especially fertilizer, but a good one to to us would be has to grow fertilizer. I use it a lot I have high biscuits in my garden hardy varieties, and they love it. They respond very vigorously to it. And so you can use it as a soil drench, you can a liquid you mix with water, and you can drench in the soil. That's a good way to kick. Start the year using it that way and giving your plant, you know, a number of gallons of it at a time. Yeah. It's probably six six and a half feet tall. Really? It's really ground back. Just didn't flower year before it had huge flowers everywhere. You know, what I see how it goes through the winter. You know, if it's still vigorous looking at margin new hasn't frozen. That's could be fine. I I like to. Things like that too. I like them to be I would probably cut it down. And let it grow again because it can get get rangy. But it's up to you. The. I'm sorry. When do what would you do the third the feeding and late margin into April was things warm up and then? Said the first few applications, you can go ahead and use it is a soil drench, then you can switch to full. You're feeding spraying it down with the fertilizer and through pump sprayer, which is the super effective way to go and also a cheaper way to go because he's a lot less product. And then you can do that once a month. Great. Okay. Well, that's what I was mentioning. Thank you. Okay. You're most welcome. Thank you so much for calling in have a great weekend. Try to stay warm out there. And let's keep moving like I said we have some great calls coming in. And right now, we have crystal who's calling in from the temple area. Good morning, crystal. Good morning. I have a question about poppies is it too late to scatter and broadcast the poppy seed by to grow year. I don't think you'd get his anymore. Those are the things you like to here in Austin. I like to scatter those in the fall. Okay. But you can you grow them in little containers. You can you know, you can probably get them up and going, and you you might get a decent show. But. Ideally fall would be the time. Okay. How long will poppy seeds last year to year? The if you have some now did you bought for last season? But just didn't get amount. No problem this year, wonderful then I can plant them for next. I can scare them this next year. Thank you. Okay. You're most welcome. All right. Enjoy those and and. There are native plants that are related to the poppies that you see in gardens. There's some gorgeous plants. Out in the hill country other places you see bloom amongst the bluebonnets. Beautiful pale, orange poppies. You see a love them. I absolutely love them. And they're not a native. But they do well for us here in central Texas. Okay. Take the stick one more call and that is Richard. He's calling in from the rain rookie. Good morning. Richard good morning to you. I was in a box store. The the Dan saw some pillow ties gypsum laundering. If that's still recommended loop to loosen up soils like we're having round, Mike. Yeah. Gypsum is a fine product. I it's proven itself as as a solid a soil amendment for heavy clay soils, not worry about that. Excellent. Thank you very much. Okay. Do. All right. Well, Richard made that easy. Thank you so much for calling in. We're gonna take a quick break..
