"Whether it's a pass in the air and you're going to get it as a ball home. Or you're hitting somebody to go get the football against the run. I just want to see Kyle, Duggars eyes on the ball all the time. Don't worry about everybody else. Worry about the football, turn the ball over. Make those big impact. As it does kind of feel like with Mills and Duggar in the mix Adrian Phillips. Does he you know, I think it's going to make the team. I still think he's going to be on the team, had a great year last year for them so I got it needs to be a cut candidate, but it does feel like they have a lot of bodies at that spot and they are going to want. They just pay Jalen Mills, they obviously are going to want to give a ton of playing time to Kyle Duggar. Yeah, I mean with Phillips too though I wonder if there's some natural growth for him just second year in the system of full offseason, all of that. He's what twenty nine thirty years old, something like that. But here's a guy, I think he could improve a little bit. I think they didn't add a time at safety, right? They added jaelan Phillips, that was the big addition and by the way, Phillips is 29. Yeah. They didn't add a ton of safety but between Duggar having another year of experience under his belt between Philips, having another year in the system miles Bryant, having the year in the system. I just think there's a ton of room for natural growth wage position, which is what's exciting. I think even with minimal additions and they lost Patrick Chung, even though they didn't have him last year. I think the safety position is going to be better just because God is going to be more comfortable, more familiar with their assignments. All of that. That that's the Philips is honestly the first guy when it comes to mind for me, is he was doing something new last year, he was doing something he never really done. I know he's twenty-nine, but in some ways it had to have been a rookie like experience for him. Now he's got a year of it under his belt and that's exciting. Okay, I'll give you ten seconds literally. 10 seconds to tell me why Adrian kolbert is going to make the Patriots roster go. Yeah I like older. They need them deep safety. They needed somebody to filter on Harmon's role and he's not a player..

"There with them and then you could look at jalen folks literally any other pass in this draft. He's going to be compared to being the first one off the board op. So i do like these picks the mostly because they weren't needed right they weren't the dolphins weren't desperately needed defensive and yes it wasn't one of the strongest areas but it was something they have gotten by with what they have. So i see these guys coming in in positions that they could really learn grow and not be forced into action like charles harris and not saying the whole other end of the spectrum like the android was playing twelve snaps game game his rookie year shadow. Joe philbin for that logic But i do see someone who can really get comfortable really quickly. Based on the talent. The dolphins have around him. Like i said the guy drone baker and vince beagle who might be behind atrovent ginko of might be behind that defensive of second unit. Who can really help. Stop the run winfield's by make a mess or something like that. Make those rookie errors. I think that's going to do a lot for this team in the competence for these guys at i think best case today or josh. You mentioned that he really turned it on and spinal season in miami. I guess i should say final season in college with miami. That probably would fill would have to do to be strong his rookie year right. I think it probably. I don't see any way. He can start out really fast. But i could see him being someone who by the end of the year. He is so comfortable and the dolphins have an uptown around where he really belongs on that. You know starting eleven defense went back. Actually pull up the article which we can link and whichever article in put now. But i put as a conclusion. I don't know jalen phillips will start on day one after all ryan floors is a firm believer in competition and some of the veterans could hold the inside track but then again the best plan is to play the leading best guys. It's hard to imagine. They're very few on the defensive line. As talented jalen phillips. I then went on to say as the best pass rusher in the country. And the sky's limit so jake debris it all full circle. Man i don't know about you but jalen philipson when he's going to do to that defense it's going to be as impactful as hell and it's going to be on the same level against jason taylor and can't wait ragavan. He's already up there. If you actually back in my make it in before zach thomas he might actually make it in the whole in before that. That's awful. That's awful guys papa. Thank you so much for joining us. This book club. If you have time to go watch some video and killing phillips. "Own. I mean he truly santa's it sounds you know cush as it may sound. This guy really is the true package. I mean i mentioned you can set yet. you're talking about when he moves inside of me. He's almost unguarded their passive. It's yeah it is game over. You mentioned speed. I mean we even talk about but this guy ran a four point. Five six forty. That was ninety percentile. This guy is a frigate missile. So i'm so excited to see the way he fits in and just what. Brian floor is ultimate. Plan is for him. Jake and you know to watch him go out to see the way he pushes an andrew million kinkel to see the way. You know the rest of this defense. You'll kind of get better because you're bringing in a guy that again works his ass off all the right things before we go. Jake i do have to ask you. We all joked that this guy could be legit defensive rookie of the year. And i mean it's not a joke. He could legitimately be defensive. Rookie of the year antidote twenty one. But what are realistic expectations for him. You know it could be stats. Could be playing time. What are you realistic expectations for for. Jalen phillips in two thousand twenty one. I think it really comes down to opportunity right because the miami dolphins. It's no secret. They love to switch guys out to put guys all over the field and we did mention it. That phelps can line up in a lot of different places. So i'd say you know if he's it's tough because i want to kind of put it in terms of linebacker snaps and that's not really fair. Because he will line up on edge he can line up inside when needed. You know that type of stuff. But i want to say he's pop two or three in terms of snaps from the linebacker defensive Position one of those two. I think that will be a successful season for him. I don't necessarily know how much brand is gonna love using rookies especially with how much depth this team ads. I mean i still old now. Hope that vince beagle pretty awesome right. But i mean in terms of depth. I could see the you know the edge rusher that outside linebacker position quickly becoming one of miami's strength especially bill to someone who comes in right away and really had some sort of impact that isn't limited to getting in the backfield and just straight up tapping andrew luck. When those two minutes left in the game. I still will never get over that. Because that was one of those frustrating moments ever to see the door to break through into the backfield looking great and then he just kind of lightly touches andrew luck. He completes golfer person. I mean man that that's not rookie of that's all depressed. Shakti brenton while. You're saying that. Because i was intrigued with chase young did last year he had forty. Four total tackles and seven and a half sex so when you compare that to what he did i mean. I don't wanna say that realistic but that's pretty realistic. Jake isn't it ban. i don't know. I mean seven and a half sacks. That's very impressive. I i don't want to compare to chase young. I mean shades young enter. The league is an absolute monster. Ed there is some room or fill really needs to grow that. Are of injury concerns for a reason but it's important to keep in mind after his years working out in getting his body back equally the entire year miami right that could be the new trend. Maybe he just needed to play on the east coast. That that could've been the difference. I don't want to compare them to jail as much as i like. That kristen's quote i. I'd be happy with you. Know four and a half five and a half sacks. I think it's very possible josh. I'm gonna look it up. Quick but josh. I think a good measuring stick is this. Do you think jalen phillips could have more saxes rookie season. The child's hairs has higher. Yes at six and a half. The total is six and a half is over under per child status create. You think is gonna break that his rookie year. I think you will. And i'm looking at seven. Nine hundred tackles out. I don't think you'll break. But i think he can break that six and a half and you mentioned it. I don't think i ever heard anyone say that. They liked to chris. Simms quote but jay phillips. One isn't bad. We'll stop talking stuff compared to the chase young and we'll start comparing jason taylor. Does that work better. It's going to be ninety nine week. We'll make art. We can both in article. You know as jalen phillips next cam wake because dan phillips next jason taylor and everyone just lose her frigging mind and make a huge deal out of nothing. I really haven't seen a swim move. this good since cameron week. Ray i michael phelps michael phelps right your action more spot on taking to that one and i really don't like to compare like the rookie coming into the you know the greatest path three four greatest pass rushers in dolphins history But but that's kind of division. I see bill. This is why he was the first round pick because you see a pathway for him to become that guy. Nothing is guaranteed but josh. This is a player. i'm really excited for. And would you think about the difference between someone like feeling waddell and jalen phillips jalen squared up the dolphins with their first round picks. I mean this. This could be a franchise changing draft for for good or bad. You know because the dolphins you don't they traded back to get waddell right. They had their pick of any of those offensive weapons. Decided they are contemplating. Becker waddell and then to take the top defensive and i mean we're going to hear or see a lot of crispier in the scouting department 'cause it's going to be easy to compare right you know july cheats kyle pits even rejected wada. Which one has a better our first device mets right.

"We talk sports so does watching bill. I mean jail somebody who can play on the inside. You can play on the outside. He can be that test piece like we mentioned it. And i think that's why he's going to have a role with the miami. Dolphins potentially a big what in his rookie year. Because there's nothing. Brian for his loves more than those chest paves chess pieces. You think about what he said in terms of that six men mentality. I mean he's already mentioned it in interviews for the miami dolphins were. He's willing to play every position. Everyone's kind of concerned that he was labelled a linebacker. What are you going to do. Are you going to go chase running back then. He kinda study. No i'm going to do whatever they need me. So that mentality. I think is going to have a big swing in his opportunity in terms of hitting the field of the combo that he has a length and strength. I believe makes it so much easier for him to reach scrambling quarterbacks. I think that's something. The dolphins have struggled with her very very long. I think You know the shack lost the world ugly branches the world whoever maybe kind of fumbling themselves once they have to deal with a quarterback in the open field and a big reason for that is just the fact that there's such big players right. It's hard to really turn on the turn on a dime. I guess would your that have you. When you're that strong. I mean it's really hard to keep your balance when you're going so low. You're being pushed around. Jim book books as an incredible amount a balance for his frame. And i think that's was so impressive that they were thing to watch. I was watching. A one highlight way ponant. Was doing this week play. The ball was coming back the other way and instead of Phillips getting burned the guy running right by making him break his ankles and fall over philps maintain is bound than he made the tackle for six years loss. And that just seems so refreshing to me. A big guy isn't going to instantly get beat by every quarterback running back at and wide receiver that tries to go by. Yeah and i mean he can sit the edge absolutely and i hate to bring it up because it was the kind of the anomaly but when they went against north carolina i mean that entire defense got gashed so i mean there is some room for improvement there but jake just to your point i mean i i call him pastor talking about what he can bring in that kind of dynamic but we talked about various pockets. The dolphins run defense has been bad for many years in what he can bring. You know as at extra guy set the edge. Do some some of those things that you know amanullah book can do and maybe we'll talk with charleston did well but you know he brings another aspect is a pass rusher so i think this is going to be again one of the more dynamic players and i think it's interesting because i just brought up. Espn's depth chart have down as a three four defense in the way they haven't set up right. Now is christian. Wilkins at left defensive. End ray kwan. Davis at nose tackle zach sealer at right defensive end and then the linebackers are jalen phillips. At weakside bernard drake mckinney andro baker in the middle and then amanda logged on the other side. And so that is how they're projecting it has actually jalen phillips with andrew. Banco behind have been spiegel. You know we can talk about the cast or some of those guys that might be battling for that starting spot but right now i mean he's listed as a starter again. This is not an official depth chart but that could be how it fills out with three four defense ba. Let's be honest. We know. Brian floors loves to be versatile. Loves to play different defenses in today's nfl teams are more likely to be a nickel dime packages. Things like that where. There's a lot more defensive on the field so Take the step chart with a grain of salt but the prospect in what jalen phillips can do to this defense. Is you know for lack of a better term game. Changing so jesse mentioned his ability in the run game. And i wrote down here i got to just kind of something popped in my head in. Its if he wants something done. Great do it yourself. And that's kind of what jalen fields brings against the run on. He can set the edge. Yes but where he really excels is breaking the edge and just reaching that running back before anybody else gets to him before a blocker can really seal off the edge and give that running backs room philps great at penetrating making that tackle for lots but you mentioned he needs around him who can go outside and make sure that running back if he gets by phillips he doesn't just go twenty five yards on the sideline because the edges now gone right and when you think about guys like jerome baker they had the speed on edge to really keep up. This is even a situation as he gathered brandon jones and john holland being involved especially against the run game. These speedy guys. They can tackle. That's what you want against the running back especially with someone like phillips who. It's going to be a little more aggressive. Because i think we're used to in a sense as dolphin fans where they'd be time for team set the edge or excavated plays with the edge and we'd see running backs dance for twenty five yards on. It'd be like six yard gain or something like that instead of saying the edge and letting someone else make the plate filled. His potential is being playmaker. Right we've been yelling for years someone on that dolphin's defense mak- play obviously xavien howard led the league interception but i mean in terms of stopping the run being real consistent forest that forces those three announced that really makes the dolphins jump into a top five defense. Philps really has that ability against the run. I thought about really aides. When watching him for some reason not not their play style or anything. But i just remember hand is someone who can really penetrate a defense or penetrated offensive line and get to a running back and that really seems builds can do because i think the dolphins have had someone like that in a long time. Obviously they're defensive. Ends like emmanuel aiba. Cameron wake with mortgage pass rusher so we can include him guys who could set the edge and pushed runners back inside the. Let ray davis or christian. Wilkins they play. And that's all finding good and that's something. I think the dolphins would be cool with. But why do that when you have your offensive and that can make the.

"I mean it's such an unknown area and football such a violent sport. These concussions just can kind of really put a cloud of doubt seat of doubt in anyone's nfl career. And that kind of what happened with billups who i hate using the word injury prone josh. I i really do. Because everyone's injury prone until they're not poor. Phelps started his sophomore year us involved in a scooter accident where a car drifted into. The bike lane needed wrist surgery. Any suffered eight second recorded concussion. You know. I mentioned earlier that he suffered head injuries. Starting at seven years old. This was a big dude. Flailing his body around playing football. These things are going to happen and they started to take coal. Despite these injuries he did play on opening but in the fourth game of the season he got his third recorded concussion. The year after phillips left. Ucla i'm might jump around here a little bit but try to keep up with the us. Ucla was sued for mishandling concussions. Why is this important. Because the school started a force their players medically after suffering three concussions. So phil was basically forced to retie. Yet he left. Ucla he started to go to a community college where he thought you hinted to it. He became a music student. He became an incredible music engineer. His parents were actually to musician. So this was you can see phelps someone who if you can't do one thing he's gonna invest all the time his effort into another thing so during his junior year. He's done a lot of music at during this time. Josh there. Come some clarity where a coach reaches out to a my Who was the first three. Hey do you wanna come back. You want to enter the transfer portal income. Play for us. Miami eventually came up. I think will proceed persuade folks to really go to miami. Was that new the school and during this time music program. I guess that's probably a better way to put it. And during this time he wasn't in the weight room. And all right us looking more like you and i just a lot taller than he was. You know the physical freak of nature. He was so when you got to miami. He could not play right away right. That's kind of the transfer rules. He was in the weight room every day at the same time. His team was in practice so by the time that next year rolled around news ready to hit the field. He was back to being there. Freak of nature. And i think that's really kind of a catapult to being ready to play instead of having to play twenty pounds lighter than us us to josh. I know we kind of hinted in joke there at the beginning that you know that. Twenty nineteen hundred. Isn't that great. But when you see what. He looked like leaving college to entering that first year at miami. The workout routine was incredible. This dude put so much time and effort into it racket that twenty nineteen season. Where he they play at all. These training working in rebuilding himself was incredibly important to recovery. He'd bring up the whole thing. But i mean it's kind of like that you know. He was rehabbing from the injury. And this whole year you know he has to build on his base and just get better and we saw jay phillips. I mean you mentioned the pictures or night and day. I mean it looks like a completely different guy and he went to miami. I mean it all just seem to click. And i don't know if it had to do with you know miami's defensive line was pretty well or you know. It's just a coaching there. But we saw him. Just start to become a whole different monster. Hit fifteen and a half tackles for loss last year. Forty five total tackles and eight sacks also an interception and three pass defense so jake i mean it didn't really come on until those last four games when you're looking at the numbers and that's what a lot of people do look at but when you wash them really games i mean when you're watching the tape there only a few people that i've watched that can do some of the things. James phillips doesn't even do it inside. You can do it outside. And as we mentioned you even drop back in coverage and i think what is so interesting to me is what the miami dolphins plan is. What brian brian is planning is. Because yes you know at one point. He was the linebackers coach yes. He's list outside linebacker but as we alluded to improve his tigers. This guy is going to come in and be you know cliches. It sounds a frigging chest piece. And i'm excited to see the way it goes so i mean the way that he just transported proved like you said hard work pays off. He went out. There completely. Transformed at jake and i don't know if you saw it but A lot of dolphins twitter is up in arms because he slid down that slide at training camp yesterday. Did you see anything about that. i not. That's incredible now. That was all the talk yesterday. I posted it because he did it on. Instagram and i slid down. There was a table at the end. And of course dolphins twitter blew up and somebody's moved that table player. Show be slide on the slide in to me. I just thought you know. If a guy looks like jalen phillips said he can't slide down the slide. And i don't know what to say meant bubble wrap all the not thought about it. You mentioned the trustees. And that's where i'm going to kind of wrap up. The review of wade phillips went to miami familiar name. Another first round pick gregory russo was in front of him on the death. Try they also get another guy who transferred from temple. Who is a very good pass rusher. But i didn't write down everything because i don't want to get lost in the weeds. Here would see roche. I was his name. Quincy yes look at you. Go so russa phillips right away. He said was accepting the role as the six-man news in a six man head space using colin and being that guy when he had his opportunity to be like lou williams and firearm twenty. Five points the bank. He was gonna do that. He next day joshua russo opted out of the twenty twenty season. Gay felt a shot. In that lineup. There was one more know that before the fourth game of the season with those really start a game then he spoke in front of the team and what he said really kind of a resonated with the entire team he was just talking about how the team really made him low football again and how he was all the way back in all the way dedicated. You know the music thing for as good as he wasn't that he's back to being the dominant player in that game. After he spoke it was before the game against florida state. They win that game. Fifty eight fifty two to ten so that just kind of rats it up in a bubble what. This guy is what his character is. What is journeys bid. And that's kind of why. I'm a little more opportunistic because while we can say that this could be a much better player of in child's hairs a much better player than beyond jordan. We don't know that until it actually happens but hearing things like this hearing him speak in front of the crowd hearing him. You know dedicate all that time to music and then coming back and rebuilding itself. I mean that's the type of passion. You need football players. And that's why. I thought it would be important to the story. Obviously we had his college stats sprinkled in. But i mean this dudes journey to the nfl. I mean it is nearly impossible to not wanna route from. Let's not forget. I mean again. He played at miami and one of the first things he said when he was drafted was. I owe a lot to the city. I'm so excited to come back and play here for as long as i can. It's amazing and it's an amazing feeling. So i just don't know if we want to bring us all back together and just say you know. I mean to be completely honest. I think that this might go down as the best taken the but again it all comes down to you know whether or not you can stay healthy and rid himself those concussions. Because let's be honest. I mean when you watch this guy's going full motor nonstop and part of that could be why those concussions happen so jake. I don't know if you wanna jump into a break and then come back and try to figure out where he might fit in the dolphins defense. But i think you and i both agree you know. The town is absolutely there in the skies for jalen phillips in miami. Josh we said in previous podcast is always already in the ring of audit with that other way. Let's let's jump into a break and on the other side. Let's see what fields can do to this miami dolphins defense stating that get ready for stats on your baseball stats with the first of its kind. "Are officially eighteen days away from the start. a miami. dolphins traded kip. And there's not a whole lot to talk about so we thought it'd be the perfect time to bring you a finsider book club on the only human in the world that can make ray. Kwan davis look keen grant the six foot five two hundred and sixty pound monster from the u. jalen phillips but before we get into all that you are listening to finsider radio espy. Nation's number one. Miami dolphins podcast. This is the jason josh show. And if i'm josh. How's that means i'm joined by the one. The only jake mental. Please follow on twitter at j. m. e. n. d. ninety four jake. How's it going today. Man should fit a little while. And you know. I gotta start by saying your hundred percent right. There's not a lot happening in the world of football we kinda into the ad it over the last couple of weeks Pushing out those podcasts. But year we are you mentioned eighteen days away end up before we get into jalen phelps who i gotta say is an incredible story. And they're excited to talk about mining second first round pick in the two thousand twenty one annabel draft. I i gotta give a shout out to everyone listening to this podcast because you hit me with some pretty interesting news last night. That that Inside radio finished inside the top ten in terms of sp nations podcasts. That means a lot for us just to kind of see. That growing means a lot for you guys to listen because clearly You know it's it's you guys. You guys are the community that makes us show really pick so thank you for that and the fact that it's happening in the middle of offseason season makes it that much more special. I guess that's the probably the best way to put it. So you guys so much for listening. We love doing this and we wouldn't be able to do it without you. Guys we love giving is a place to come in and talk about the dolphins football hopefully in them differently than you used to. You know. I'm gonna say cookie more times but simply thank you. Thank you all. I mean just to echo what jake said. I mean without you guys. There is no us and you know like you said. I mean to be a top ten. Nfl podcast in the dead heat of the season. I mean that's huge so we're going to keep grinding and like we said we're bring you one of our favorite draft picks at this draft jalen phillips today and just so let. Let's get right into it here. Because i think it's so incredible to talk about timing right. And that the dolphins selected jalen phillips the first defensive end pegging him the two thousand twenty one jet right around with the dolphins selected. Charles hairs and i have to say that the tone around these two guys just coming into college. And i don't want to turn into a child's hairs bashing party but it's just we have context of defensive end who has taken by the dolphins in the first round and i gotta say man the tone simply the tone around. These guys are just in completely different fears. Simply i remember you know charles. Has your number one. It was it was the spin. Move right he really enjoyed his spin move. He's really good at it but going into the second year it was like all right. How's he going to build on those tools thirty house. He got a bill tools and he was never really able to answer those questions. Where on the other end man. I got to tell you watching. Some tape of jalen phillips. This is a guy who carries his toolbox that the everywhere he goes. This is a clear that can do so many different things. And here's a great player. Who could be a potential defensive rookie of the year. Just based on his physical Abilities alone before we get into a story. I just kind of want to summarize him on the field in high school and college adds that madden crater player. That you've made where you make him. You know that six five six six guy who just doesn't look like he belongs on the field because he just sticks out his this. You know video game like character. That's like watching. Jalen phillips play football both in college and in high school because this is just a freak of nature in terms of his athletic ability. We know he can do in. Terms of the tryouts. Ib crushed his predrag. Workouts has numbers. Are off the charts. So is a guy josh. I mean you don't have to watch football too long to really have someone like phillips up really pop out right and you need to bring up trolls hairs but i mean was that not the last first round you know pass rush the dolphins invested in but compete more night and damn and you mentioned it. He does look like that. Create a player. I mean you saw the pictures. I'm working out. I mean he looks like he's built in a lab and then you saw him the other day when the dolphins released his uniform. He's wearing that visor. I mean he legitimately looks like that. Create a player that you made it then. Game the number fifteen but You know the biggest thing surrounding him. And i mean we'll talk about his past. Is you know the injury concerns. And we know what happened to him at. Ucla caused him to retire. You end up transferred to miami and ended up actually enrolling into their music. I believe in. I made a joke about things. Bleacher report they post an article. You know one of the dolphins players that could be the biggest bus this year and put jalen phillips. And i made a joke. Maybe they're watching his two thousand nineteen music tape. Maybe they saw what he was doing music school because he didn't play that year and that was really the only bad tape that you could honestly find him because he didn't play so this is a player that you know. We talked about imperious targets. He kind of like that. The child of jason taylor and zach thomas that we always thought we might have and to see what he's going to do in this defense you know to be that added presence. At to be completely honest. Dolphins had truly lacked. They're coming off the edge. I mean you heard the comparisons to chase young and some of those other prolific passers. I mean this is one of those big time players in. I'm excited for him as anyone as. Let's get right into it before we talk about what he can. Bring to the miami dolphins. I think it is important to talk a little bit about that story. And josh mccown a couple of things you said that i really think highlighted his path year to the nfl. We bring up this comparisons right. You know. I keep going back to kristen saying he'd put him. You know one. A and one b with case young if this was last year draft. So why did he fall eighteen. You know dolphins got their pig all your letter with the best pass. Rusher in the decker who they believe is the best pass rusher. Who's the first one taken off the board. And you wonder okay how he dropped so low that the dolphins get this big of a steel. Where's the risk and it is injuries short and sweet injuries. He started suffering head injuries at the age of seven and would be eventually told the walk away from football. He started receiving the offers as a software in high school by the time that was overdose. He had twenty seven scholarships offers. Ed this is. This is a level of little belt. I found that he was third in the two thousand seventeen. Espn top three hundred. He was very coming out of high school. I say a wilson was number two and that goes to show that these things are pretty interesting for context and you can see that trajectory but it's not necessarily a bible in terms of you know someone so great in high school. They're going to be so great in college than so great in that. It's not necessarily that simple from fish. Yeah and it's just a shame that we're missing out in those training camp that we can overreact over. You know isaiah wilson going going against the jalen. Phyllis but i mean that's crazy. Man just speaks on the volume. Just how explosive playmaker is. i mean. you mentioned twenty-seven seven scholarship offers. I mean that's more than i've ever had more to be completely honest. So the talent was there. He produced when he was on the field issue. Was these concussions..

"I think the question in, I think it's still worthy of asking, even if off the 49ers did what they did at number three and and getting tray. Lance the flip side of the coin will be in, in English. Sort of measure this. However, we measure this would the Patriots have been better off paying the piper to get Garoppolo before the draft, say, for a future second-round pick or something like that. Making the money work and spending fifteen on saving Collins or darrisaw or you know what have you whoever else went down. I'm just looking at the at the board right now, you know, jaelan Phillips, janene Davis I think Kadarius Toney and and going that route. But you know, I I think for now I think I think the Patriots are happy with the way it went. They read the board, right? And I think this is the right, I think he's look and I said this about the Forty Niners, possibly getting a, I think that Mac Jones is better than Jimmy Garoppolo or I think you will be in short order. Jimmy is a little bit better physically, but in terms of his mind and in and off, Staying on the field. Availability, I think that Mac Jones is, is better than Garoppolo at this point plus, he's younger. Yeah, and I see people saying, you know, who else was going to draft Mac Jones, but we don't know that, we have no idea, we have no idea. Here's the point Mac Jones in Greg has been saying this, he had Mac Jones as a fit for the Pats, he thought, and you said this, Greg that, you know, you didn't think they were going to be super aggressive and move up for guys. But you saw that sitting at 15, if one of the couple of guys that they liked and you mentioned Mac Jones. As you said, I think Lawrence and Wilson are the other two guys that they would like to have in this trapped? You know, you said there were three quarterbacks in the top fifteen picks that you could see the Patriots kind of justify that they would have those kind of grades on, yeah, right. The first half of the first round, they would have three guys at that position that they would have that kind of grade on. It was Lawrence and Wilson. And it was Mac Jones dead. Obviously, you can't get Lawrence, you can't get Wilson, so I don't know. Maybe if the Patriots traded down, somebody would have traded up and picked Mac Jones, maybe. If you know, they they didn't sit and pick and they moved down to Washington picks him at nineteen. I have no freaking clue. The point is they had him obviously are marked as a guy. It was their number one priority going into this Draft House. They're guy. Is it going to work out? I don't know. I like, um, I don't know if I love him, but I really like him. So, we'll see how it goes. Let's talk about Jimmy G, because I feel like you and I have spent so much time talking about Jimmy P on this podcast and we have like a sad tuber or something. Yeah. You you had said, one time you used the analogy that it was like, you know, the check was was looking from inside the house and Jimmy Garoppolo was in the back seat of the car and they were kind of waving at each other and, and just kind of trying to reach out and Belichick would have his hand on the log. No, and and Garoppolo at his hand on the back window, will finally, Greg tonight..

"I just think you know, especially if they miss out or take somebody else at 10, I think that would be a great fit in a cover-3 scheme. I mean big he's athletic he is not his brother OB he understands that his brother had flaws I've talked to him was that he was probably over drafted because of his athletic profile and he knows that he was kind of soft and he is he very much doesn't he didn't say Thursday? But that's what like he intimated that a little bit and so I think that he really tries to be go that extra mile to be physical as a corner. Especially it comes to you know, defending the run and going up and attacking screens and then man like the draft really sets up pretty good for them to you know, maybe get a linebacker or a defensive tackle with that third round pick linebacker and d-tackle in this draft class. That's kind of where the strength is. There's not a bunch of high-end Talent at D tackle, you know, the one technique but there's a bunch of guys in that kind of range that I think would be good value there. It also linebacker depending on which guys fall Dylan Moses is probably going to be round and round 3 months bill Cox might be probably not especially after he test but he might be he's really really good in coverage and then there's just so many guys that you think one of them is probably going to be there at 75 wage. And then in the fourth round if they want to get a developmental free safety, you know, I don't I don't think they'll have a chance to get Trayvon more rig or Richie Grant with their second round pick. So I'm getting in developmental guy. Maybe it came Stearns who I'm showing your yeah aware of, you know covering the Big Twelve. He's somebody who I really like the upside of God, you know, maybe ardarius Washington and if the team is comfortable with his height, I really like the player and you know, there's there's other guys as well Divine Diablo timer last be from Missouri, you know, and then after that, you know, there's guys that I like at the one technique defensive tackle Cyrus Tonga from BYU on Dale Mabry somebody like to Darrell Slayton on day three from Florida 6 with four three hundred thirty pounds. He's got absolute levers as arms and he uses them really. Well. He's just he's dead. A great athlete and there's one techniques, you know, that's really where you can find Value in the draft on day three those guys cuz the NFL doesn't value. Who do you thinks the best defensive player in this draft man? That's a tough question. The highest grade that I have is a tie between J. Okay, Jeremih woosah, Carmella the linebacker safety hybrid and Micah Parsons dead. Those are the two highest grades that I have. Given their positional value. Those are not the guys that I would draft first. I would draft I actually have the highest film grade on Caleb Farley, but with the back injury and there's just no way that you can feel comfortable taking him that high and so he would kind of be my guy but I would take the two corners JC horn and Patrick Stewart an over the linebackers because of positional value package. Then I really really like. Jaelan Phillips the Miami Edge rusher as well, but he also has injury concerns. And so that pushes him down the board a little bit as well. He's the name that might be there at 44th because of all the the health issues and I mean, he would be a perfect type of blue star special for Jerry Parsons is so interesting because he seems to be such a polarizing Prospect so much talent..

"I just think that you look at the Bears and Washington, they're much more desperate for quarterbacks than the Patriots in terms of we might think that they're desperate for a quarterback not happy with Cam Newton, but I don't think the Patriots view themselves that way in there. They're never going to admit or even appear to be desperate ever when it comes to anything in free agency of the especially if she left so I had all five quarterbacks gone and on the clock at 15 staying there to be honest. I was thrilled with You know the talent available at the positions that I wanted. I was disappointed that the wide receivers jamarr Chase Devante ish Smith. Jaylen waddle all went and about the the seven pics before that JC horn the cornerback had gone Patrick's or tan had gap on those girls were really positions that I was looking to fill that. I thought I might be able to get somebody special for the Patriots that those positions it would really help them long-term. And now look Caleb Farley the cornerback was still in the board. Jaelan Phillips Edge from Miami committee pay for Michigan off. Those are sort of the guys that I guess people would think but outside of that. I was pretty much left with and and I like this picnic and we didn't have time again today to get into twenty-twenty job. And I do think that 2022 is a huge Factor will get into it next time. But when you look at where the Patriots are next year, first of all, we think they've got a high Towers back coming back, but what if he gets to the precipice and he says, you know, I you know what? I really don't want to go back now. What are they going to do at linebacker? Let alone that he's home free agent. I mean the Patriots are so many free agents next year. They're fine. Largely. They're finding offense. The defensive line is fine for next year, but the secondary and the wage backers are just there's nobody on the roster right now really in the you know in the secondary be on this year and also at linebacker nobody that you can count on. I mean maybe you think he gets there maybe Jennings gets there maybe Bentley somehow revives his career. Maybe Dante Hightower looks like he's discovered the Fountain of Youth and they re-sign him. Where they tag him or what have you but to me. It look Micah Parsons is a he is a unbelievable physical specimen at the linebacker position. He is not he's far from polished. Could you make the odd man what we talked about with the quarterbacks it could he be a top ten player at his position as a rookie. I think you could make that argument and I and I think that's that just keeps to where the sort of three down linebackers are in in the NFL. Look he has a lot of boxes that need to be checked off the field. I won't have any idea about that. I won't have a good beat on that. But in terms of what the Patriots need for now in the future to solidify this defense get a playmaker in the front seven that could be there for multiple years with a guy who can Blitz who can cover who can impact a game a guy that they really don't have anybody really like him in terms of his physical profile..

"He said a ton of injuries you you want to get that Nash and the building we've talked about the draft whether it's a guy like Micah Parsons or not. Like Nick Bolton who could possibly fill that role but I think again a twenty eight years old, I would give Bud Dupree of five year contract and I think he could totally feel that rule change is a good player. Milano is an interesting one to I want to go back to him because he has a coverage linebacker, right? You know, it gets the Run issues with Miss tackles angles things like that song. Maybe not the Patriots type in that regard, but they haven't had somebody that can really cover at the linebacker position like Matt Milano can in a while maybe since like gave me Collins was at his Peak or something like that, right? So Moana somebody dead. Really cover and I remember just watching him go out and man coverage against James White or Gronk, you know over the years here in New England and really being able to hold his own against those guys. So again some concern some holes in his game as an offender, but certainly a very very good pass coverage player, which is desperately what they need at that linebacker position. But let's talk about the first round guys. I mentioned we talked about Corners exact Patrick Stewart and Caleb Farley JC horn those guys are all possibilities are open on 5:00 other names here. Maybe there's another one know you really like Nick bolt and I think could be first-round players 4th streets if they want to go on this direction on defense quitting pay for Michigan's and obvious one person's obvious one saving Collins MiFi from Tulsa is another obvious one. I don't think that they're going to go this way, but it took the hell knows Jeremiah Wast Okumura from Notre Dame who is basically Kyle Duggar but whatever and then of course Christian bear more from Alabama, I think those Five Guys in the front seven. This is not a low wage. Class of defensive lineman it's a pretty good off-ball linebacker class though, but I think we all would run up to the podium with the card with kwity paye, right? I think everybody is on board with that one off but where do you stand on some of these other guys? I guess we can have the Parsons discussion about is off your concerns and maturity. But first you're in agreement with quitting paying at that guy's am I guess I mean how good was the Michigan the last couple of years and you're just building their team between Chase and Hooch a a no. No, no, don't forget that. You're getting the best like that would be a fine pic. I just think it's funny that as Michigan absolutely collapses. All of a sudden Bill Belichick goes all-in on them, but they're Michigan. They have good players. They thought you know, it just happened don't have the schematic coaching, you know coaching. That's right. Yeah, but we we don't as much as I'd love to have that conversation we can save that one for another time. Yeah, you know, I I just feel like we don't like those are all positions of depth, right? And you know again you talked about saving calls or Micah Parsons. You probably get Nick Bolton it at what are they picking 45th home, for example, like you can get that guy there, you know, there's going to be good pass-rushers down there Catholic. Jaelan Phillips out of Miami is a guy. I really like, I mean, it's a bit of a stretch for him at that point..
