New York Mets Blow DeGrom’s Lead, Rally In 8th To Beat Marlins

"The Medicine Jacob degrom just dominant. He couldn't have been better and yet he doesn't come away with the win though the mets win but the bullpen blows the lead for degrom and for the Yankees Garrett Cole not so good yesterday and the Yankees get swept. I don't know what the odds would have been on the on the brave sweep in the the Yankees yesterday but. It happened and very similar to the mets and the marlins earlier in the week where the Martin mets gets shut out twice the Yankees get shut out but you know as as much as their injured, they still have a pretty formidable lineup into score one, run a against kid making his major league debut who was outstanding by the way had a no hitter into the sixth inning and then really to. Come up pretty empty offensively in the second game for a team that's now lost. You go back before the break we said that the break might be a bad thing for the mets and I think it was because they came out and didn't do a damn thing in that double header and we thought it'd be a good thing for the Yankees because they had lost those three games in a row. To the raise will come out and they get swept and so they kind of you're right. It's been a weird season for them boomer and they gotta they gotta find themselves here and do it quickly as we're really in the second part of what is the shortened season.

"Jacob. degrom the mets we all know Jacob degrom, but he was crash from his start on Friday. With a against the phillies with some next stiffness, he'll start his planning on starting against the marlins Miami and you know. I'm surprised actually pitching to be completely honest because. The season is pretty much I. Mean I guess that he would be. He would basically just be doing it so he could get paid at this point, but I mean he would get his prorated salary regardless if he was playing or not at the mets are nine and fourteen therefore games out of the. Four Games out of the East lead they've already lost one two of their best players with marcus, stroman and Noah syndergaard. Know. Why he would even play. It doesn't look like the mets are really going to be doing anything in the division. So. I mean. A. Whole I'll just come back through another game and then and then pretty much just opt out of the season if I were him but. You know he's he's out there playing and he's doing a great job this season and you know you gotta come you got you give him his props for endlessly fighting for the New York mets even then they haven't. You know they've been trying to hold onto whatever relevancy they've had since the I think it was Twenty Sixteen World Series, Twenty Fifteen, twenty, six world series when they lost to the Kansas city royals but alongside him another one in another player from the Bronx went down this weekend. Dj Lemay Hugh. Aaron Boone said the digital mayhew is going to be out for about two to three weeks. He was placed on the ten day de L. With thumbs strain. Suffered it just on a swing in the fourth innings. Nathan you've all the which is not. Not a good sign for the New York Yankees but I mean they're they brought up Miguel and do hard their defense is going to go down but their offense will stay. Will stay you know. Fairly even Keel for the most part I would say they would go down a little bit because Dj here's a four hundred hater and Miguel Angel Harz in anything like that. But I think M Miguel and do Haro. You'll love the at a little bit more power to the lineup. And? They'll lose a little bit of the base but I mean they're they're crews in right now. So I mean it's not going to hurt the Yankees a little too much.

At Trade Deadline, the Mets Keep Their Arms and Vow to Contend

"Can you believe that we got to the deadline and the mets turned out to be buyers because they sold nothing. They didn't trade syndergaard. They didn't Trae Zack Wheeler that in trade todd frazier. I guess they traded Jason Vargas yes but still the mets basically were buyers before the deadline. I don't get it Sarah. I don't get it and honestly even though people people were somewhat high on the mets entering this year. I don't think I even would have believed that if you told me that on March first hey we're going to get to the trade deadline. The mets are just GonNa get Marcus Stroman. Okay get rid of Jason Burs like I never I never would have believed that. I was pretty surprised I feel like they had some players that you know teams would've wanted. I think I even saw a rumor or about Luis avalon on twitter last night. I forget who it was saying. That teams are interested. I mean I don't understand necessarily not not doing those things and it's it's. It's just interesting. I mean now they're in this interesting situation with Zack Wheeler where I don't know that they're really even in the position where they would want to pay him the qualifying offer and if they if he does take it and if he doesn't then I'm sure they're not going to be in a position to really negotiate with what he's going to want. So that's an odd one one and I don't know I feel like they're just so many moves out there that can be made and one thing that we saw today is a lot of those kind of August I two thirty thirty first deals sort of happen today because they can't happen you know moving forward with the new way that it has this year like that Corey Dickerson trade to me seemed like a waiver kind of trade trade that we might see on August fifteenth and a previous year and is interesting with the mets didn't even attempt something like that. I mean one name that stuck out to me was John Ryan Murphy who is going going to the braves. I feel like you know he would probably be appreciably better for the mess right now. Then Wilson Ramos or Tomas Nido even if he were in a backup role you know maybe NATO's role and it was interesting to me that they didn't even come through on a on a move like that because if you are kind of claiming to go all in and then I would expect more on that side at the the very least so it's it's really an odd one to make one move and have it be like the big splash got this all going and then that's basically it. I would love to be the agent for Marcus Marcus Stroman right now because you talk about emotional leverage that he has on the mets during the wintertime. If you were to say you know what I'm looking for a contract and try to bully them into doing something because that deal was sort of the centerpiece of their whole summer kind of like Brodie van wagon in did last summer on behalf of Jacob degrom. "Appall Jacob degrom is going to have to settle for a share of the record for consecutive quality starts with Bob Gibson the streak into get twenty six after gave up six runs last night. "Jacob degrom was the best pitcher in the National League last season. Arguably the best pitcher in baseball was it enough to warrant a long term contract extension perhaps. But if a deal doesn't get done by opening day, the two sides will not talk at all during the season. That's the word from camp and GM Brodie van wagon is fine with that approach. Jeff, Barry, and I have. In in contact. That's Jacob degrom agent. We continue to have dialogue and this concept of opening day deadline for contract discussion is a mutual understanding the Graham is under contract to the Mets for the next two seasons. Advair wagon last July when he was two grams agent said the Mets should sign the ground to a long term deal or trade him. Or hey, facade is joining forces with his former teammate he's been hired as a special advisor to Derrick jeeter and the Miami Marlins front office road games right now for the islanders the Rangers and the devils. The islanders are in buffalo. They're midway through the third period. And the islanders down the goal is to sabres to the islanders one cases to seek the only islanders goal. So far this game bidding for their fourth straight win. The Rangers tonight are beginning a four game road trip. It kicks off with the game tonight. "Love Jacob degrom as the site young award race for the last month. Two months has been talked about between three players Aaron Nola of the. Philadelphia Phillies in my oh, my how bad the Phillies have been in this final stretch of the season. But Knowle's sixteen and six to forty five and two hundred and sixteen case does that have the most strikeouts doesn't have the best DRA and doesn't have the most wins. So I will take Aaron Nola now out of the conversation, you then get to max Scherzer who to me is the only competition for Jacob degrom for the NL Cy Young and the way that sherzer can win this not saying he should not saying he will let me make that crystal clear because I believe Jacob degrom should win the Cy Young, and I do agree and think that he will win the Cy Young. But max Scherzer is eighteen and seven with a two fifty three and three hundred strikeouts. So I could tell you now there will be some voters that look at the winds, and they'll say eighteen and seven signed him up for the Cy Young. There will be some voters that say three hundred K's signed him up my first place vote for the Cy Young. But then you look at Jacob degrom. And when you look at Jacob degrom. I get it. He's and on the record's not good for what a Cy Young pitcher should be. But I don't care. I just don't when you pitcher season. We're the most turn runs that you allowed in a single start is four being the most sinker like six seven eight nine the most turn runs. You allowed is four you should be the Cy Young award winner. And when you have an era that's one seventy compared to Scherzer's area of fifty three. And it's not like you are so far behind him in the strike outs. I get he's not at three hundred. But it's not like he's in the low twos. He's at two hundred and sixty nine strikeouts. The ground should be your Cy Young award winner. Now, something that writers may look at because I was trying to enhance my argument for Jacob degrom. And I was preparing for the program right here on the fan. And when I was trying to prepare for the show. I said let me see how many earned runs. Jacob degrom has allowed. And is nine losses. This year. Because I wanted to compare. Those numbers to Scherzer's numbers now sherzer in seven losses this year. I was surprised how low the earned runs were eighteen earned runs in seven losses. That's two point five seven earned runs per loss. For max Scherzer now Jacob degrom. He has run nineteen however in two more games with it being nine losses. That's two point one runs per game per loss. So I would still go with Debrecen, and it just comes down to the ER a component of it. When you have a one seventy. I just don't see how he's not going to win it. But like the argument out for you. There is a way that it's not going to be with him running away. Look at the finish line and laughing at the rest of the competition. Because of the fact that Scherzer's eighteen wins and a two fifty three ERA which is not one seventy but he also has three hundred strikeouts. So maybe a lot closer than what people think, and you can't use an argument. Well, oh sherzer took his team to the playoffs because nationals into that this year. And you can't use that argument for our Nola either. Because the Phillies have fallen so far Barack so far behind that. Now, they're actually under five hundred now before we take a break because we gotta get to Ricky and just a few moments. This is David rights final week as a New York met in terms of him being a player. Now, I would love to see him as much as possible for this week. But I understand what the Mets are doing. And they can say whatever they want. They didn't want to disrespect the Braves and all that Bs the Mets don't wanna put Dave right on the field because they don't want to risk Saturday because then a. Terrible miserable season and would be so Mets light. And I know the second half has been better. But it'd be so Mets like the hype. All you have this big day coming up on Saturday. And then he gets hurt swinging a bat in a pinch of performance on Friday night. It would be so much like so the Mets to me. I don't even know if they will pinch hit him on Friday. I don't even know if they'll play them on Sunday, but Saturday is his day and Mets fan. Should celebrate. That that's reading something from Andy Martino that David Wright told Andy Martino, that's why that he doesn't want to manage ever does not want to be a broadcaster doesn't want to be a coach. But he does want to be involved in the organization so a front office role may be could happen for David Wright. Maybe we could add David right to the list of candidates are Mets general manager because even Ron darling as put his name in the hat and put his name up for a little bit of candidates, and we'll see if that could happen. "This team of physician, and one of the things that I think you need to know one other thing a one hundred thing I think you do now. And you can repeat after me what I'm about to say. And you know, what I'm going to say. True. One point six eight. And no from the one eight seven. What sophistication what professionalism what maturity one eight seven seven three three seven six six six six is the number to call one more time just for the fun of it because it is good to came one point six eight Justin is calling from Monroe Justin you're on the fan. What can you say, Justin? Receive Hawaii Mannheim. Okay. Justin. Oh. Johnson. Where do you have nothing to say it's great to hear from you saying nothing. No, nobody says more nothing than I do. So you and I are a good match. Definitely. Listen with you know, Jacob degrom. You know, I think. Win the Cy Young, you know, aggravated home about two. There's there's no doubt. There's no I don't mean to interrupt. But I am interrupting and I'll give you the hit. There is no he's going to win it. And he's going to win it by more votes than you think. Absolutely see, you know with the. The one point six eight era. What was that? Even one more time with that a yard. Helping you helping himself to win games. Right. Twice in his last three starts. He's driven in Iran. Yeah. And I it's just crazy. How this team doesn't rally around him? You know what I'm saying? Yes, I do and just just. Johnson is a met fan. Thank Joseph would vote for Graham. I think he would have one of the reasons why is because of as you know, what I'm going to say one point six eight James sculling report, Washington, James. Hey, Steve how you doing James were doing, okay? Well, you know, what if you don't make me digressing like a drug at Maureen Dowd Christmas party. I wanna talk about Khalil Mack. No, I don't mind line. But you know that. Yes. Well, anyway. You think Gruden is is corrupting this team from the inside out like a virus? Because I have a feeling I heard that David Carr was best friends with Khalil Mack in a locker room. And now he removed his number one Goto friend that could be poisonous. My friend. It could be you know, tell you something it's risky with the bears. Because I don't think the bears the bears to be better with arguably I mean him and Aaron Donald of the Rams are the two best defenders in the game. You might get an argument with some fans of say Jacksonville or some other teams with a pretty good defenses in Baltimore has a very good defense, etc. But MAC darnold. Darnold are the two. Best defenders in the game bottom line risky because the bears need to build around Trubisky. Now, you can make the argument that with a better defense porting the offense and better field position that it gives a young player like Trubisky developing and evolving and hopefully for bears fans turning into a franchise quarterback less pressure on him. And the bottom line is he'll be in better field position to score. Or some points et cetera et cetera. But to give up two first rounders, listen, if I'm the jets and the jets offered I believe only one first rounder now, I'm going to double check on that. But I think the because the jets were listen they were going to spend the money they have the money. They were going to spend the money, but I'm not going to cry over the fact that MAC is now we're in Chicago because the jets need so many other pieces, and they need to be having enough money, and they have enough money as we speak right now. There could have paid magazine. Sure. But the raiders raiders are paying Gruden. The raiders are did something stupid to me because they're getting a seven hundred and fifty million dollar check from those powers that be in Vegas. They could've afforded him. And now all the other players that you're reading. From with the tweets and from the blogs from the articles and from the newspapers and on the internet. Most of the raider players are very unhappy about that. But they're they're paying a Derek Carr. They're paying Gruden and they're still they would've had plenty of money to hold onto MAC. I didn't think it was good to be traded. And then when I already was traded the Chicago has disappointed he wasn't traded to the jets. But I think he was only the jets only offered from what I understand only one first round choice. I'll double check on that. I would like to think the jets offered to put up as much of a fight as did Chicago. But they made the deal with the bears are at one eight seven seven three three seven six six six six number two Ghana fan, New York's one point six eight. Yeah. We sorta stopped paying attention and racked up a lot of. Yeah. It was stressful. He blamed me for my credit card debt, and I blamed him for building that man cave. It's awesome. Anyway, we stop blaming each other dinner homework and read.

"Present. Resilience. Welcome to the second episode of you're wrong, and here's why I'm Chris Hubbard l. joined by my co host, Greg, Greg, fun. I episode last week. Yeah, it was a lot of fun. Good to see some of the reaction that we got already in the reviews and stuff. Yeah, I didn't care for it as much because you know, we, we did decide that last week would be kind of a test week and we wouldn't put the polls up and all we have our what we're in, our tunes reviews, and I believe you, you took a slight victory if that's our metric we're using. I mean, if we're going to base it off of what I saw. And what people left the I'll take. I'll take the wind in week one. Minds to argue that who are you to argue that? And thank you to everybody who, who took the time to listen, who took the time to rate and review all that stuff. We're doing fantastically on the, I tunes charts, the reviews, the ratings, it's all flowing in. We were, you know, top top five top ten throughout the week. That's awesome. That's that's more we that we can ask for and we genuinely appreciate it. Mea, southern Grech. No, no, no, I completely agree. I thank everybody that you know has taken the time out to put in the reviews and comment on what they like about the show, and it's it's interesting to see this much interaction this early on. So what did you think of the first week format? Do you think we need to change anything? I mean, I think that it certainly a work in progress, but I like I kind of liked the flow of everything. You know, just short, little snippets, going back and forth and present your argument. Yeah, there. There's one thing we're probably going to make a change on in the next couple of weeks, but. For this week, we're going to keep things status quo and the three topics that were going to be arguing, Greg is going to argue that Jacob degrom deserves the Cy Young award. I'm going to let you know why I believe the NFL needs to keep the preseason to four games and then Gregory on the merits of having won. The comment vote gets his second topic, and he's going to argue that Jon Gruden has ruined the Oakland Raiders. Let's let's get into this. Let's start with Jacob. Degrom Greg. How about we're gonna put two minutes on the clock wants my iphone opens at some point in the future, and let's do it, Greg. Why should Jacob degrom when the Cy Young award arts? So let's let's just take a look at it from purely in ERA standpoint. The guy is twenty-seven starts this season and is a one point six, eight ERA. If you take a look back at, you know, just the last. Twenty years in the NFL for guys who have won the Cy Young. There's only been three guys that I can see that have had it sub to we are as in their higher than that. Now that's Clayton Kershaw back to back years and then Jake Arrieta. And then as you keep going in the NFL, there's no, I guess Eric on you, but he doesn't actually count because that's a closer. It's completely different world in the AL in the AL. There's only one person and it was Pedro Martinez who posted a habit right in front of me. A one point, seven, four zero in the year. Two thousand outside of that. Nobody else has even come close to the the degrom has. Obviously the record is the biggest thing that people look at. I look through all the records and it's always guys with fifteen to twenty plus wins, and that put you have to look at the team that first March April run for the Mets was unbelievable to Graham had a three and record. He gave up nine runs in thirty nine and a third. He had. Forty as eleven walks in those six starts in that timeframe. And then as the year went on, that team fell apart. You can't blame the gram. He's losing games one, nothing. He's losing games to one. He's not giving up is not getting anywhere near the run support that you need to give this guy in the month of June..

"Mostly. I just wanted to point out the fact that nobody had combined this level of elite production with a total lack of team support in terms of wins in like a hundred and thirty years. And what was what would be worse? I mean, because everybody you always go back to to Felix Hernandez right when he won the Cy Young with fucking thirteen wins or signed by the way. But you did not look terrible then that was that was that was good to see, but Felix won the Cy Young in twenty ten with a thirteen and twelve record. You know, like not not great as far as support Jacob degrom might not get to double digit wins, right? What's his wreck? How many wins you? Eight eight, nine eight. Like an obviously, those are numbers that have taken a backseat to the other numbers that really dictate winners and losers of this award these days. But yeah, I, it's, it's insane to think that Jacob degrom is having the year he's having and the numbers do look the way they do as far as team support is concerned. That's that's baffling. Would you last night eight inning, eight innings notices in one run. Was it ten strikeouts or something like that? And he got his and he got the puck and they run. On man, like damn, I, I, we, I think we we haven't talked with the National League Cy Young discussion, and this isn't the place for it yet to go deep into it. But I'm walking back my shirt pick not walking back because it was wrong when I said it, but I think that Jacob degrom has emerged as the the front runner for your ward. I don't know that it's. Completely. I'll give give Jacob degrom fifty five percent right now. I'll say that. Okay. So majority. Ooh, yeah, I can't give. I can't. I can't slam dunk knack Nola Nola definitely deserves to be in the. We'll revisit this like a week or two. Okay. But but the conversation right now is degrom insured, sir. "Again, he potentially could be on the downslide on the downslope of his career. That makes no sense. I said the exact same thing. I mean by the time, the Mets. Realistically not spend any money with a farm system that probably has their best hope for prospects. Say twenty twenty twenty twenty one twenty twenty two. By the time they come up and have an impact. What's Jacob degrom going to be at that point, he's thirty three thirty four years old. They probably won't even spend the money to keep them. So I could not agree with you more. Now, having said all that or the Yankees done, or if you cross the degrom Syndergaard option off the list. Do you think that just because they have Britain and other got seventy five relievers in eight closers and they take the tack that are, let's just go out there and roll the dice with Jay hap- give up. We have to give up to get a guy like that. Bring them in will add a pitcher, but it's not going to be a real difference maker. Yeah. And I think that that's mostly what's left in the marketplace. And at some point, the prices will drop enough and apparently the, you know, the Blue Jays have lowered their asking price on Jay happen. You know, the Mike fires, that type of guy. There are a lot of those guys and and I expect that they'll be a bunch of them that will move. And it wouldn't surprise me if the Anki would wind up with one of them. And I also think that they will take strong look at the catching market. Brian Cashman told reporters today that it wouldn't surprise him if Gary Sanchez is out for four weeks and because of how rosters are put together. I mean, let's face it. That means probably is going to be activated after the September one date in rosters open up. It would make sense for the for the Yankees to add some like Martine Maldonado a good defensive catcher. Someone here before the trade deadline muster only with us here on the Stephen Smith show on ESPN radio back to the phone calls in just a moment, but just a minute or two more with BUSTER. So if if there's still some names out there to be dealt, talked about the Yankees, Red Sox making the move for evolve. What else do you think is imminent? And what else do you think it happened to the deadline? Who else you could be the most active teams and who's on the move? Boy, I think basically all the contenders the dodgers are going to add a reliever. I do think Houston will add a reliever because as we get closer, the deadline, I think you're gonna see some of the sellers tried to execute salary dumps, you know, wouldn't surprise me if you see a bunch of those guys moved Toronto's got like three relievers. They're ready to go with young Alano John expert. I think Curtis Granderson gets moved to a contender at some point. They're going to be a lot of smaller type deals before we hit the market. And at one thing, just double back on the Mets a little bit. Yeah, you know, I think that one thing and I agree with you, they need to take an overall look at how they do things in first and foremost, they need to get a linear chain of command. "For ticket and promotions if oh by. The way there in Long Island actually. Today it'll be taking a double dip tomorrow against the. Ducks, right you get. Three three while. Out on, the, island with the ducks coming up so that, should be fun there you got fireworks every Saturday home game for you guys so checkout Wallie with the New Britain bees as well Let's start with degrom you, mentioned, the pitching has made some news, here and, has been rumblings about maybe the Mets now, wanting to trade him instead of extending him how would you, approach? The Jacob degrom situation if you're the Mets organization you know when I was. Gonna come on the show. I took a look at a few stats and I've been. A stat my whole life and I think Jacob degrom Has the value the Tom Seaver had when. Tom Seaver I came to the big leagues and I looked at the stats and see, what these guys have done I believe. Jacob degrom, is, that, guy that, you, cannot get rid of I get it if they've got to try to get rid of somebody to to, do something else but Jacob degrom Noah Syndergaard Stephen Matt's I, think I think that's your base of what you have to build on and the idea and. Look we have. One of your. Former teammates on yesterday Bobbio heater and he was saying the exact opposite that he will look to trade Graham to my surprise I would. Not I'm with you you're never get equal value back and you know how precious. It is to have that top of, the rotation guy legit as? Like degrom I think the idea? Of trading and will be foolish and rather build? Around him so that leads us to then Wally how do you fix it how would you build around him do you view what pieces of this current team do you view as keepers outside of those three guys in the starting rotation that you mentioned Well you're. Gonna have to do something you know you're going to have to trade? Some guys you know you have some older veterans there I don't know if you can train them. Or not, to, try, to build, the, system the minor league system needs to be built up no matter what but you know when you talk, about the minor league system and I didn't fall the drought, too heavily but when when you have a situation like this I think you've got to really. Go after college. Face I think. You've got to go after guys if you can develop in a couple of years to make that a part of your rebuilding program I. Mean you're going to still have this pitching staff where it's in its pride for. Another five or six years so you, know you look at just? Totally rebuilt with what I know? I don't know what the lower levels in the? Minor leagues with the Mets total rebuilt we're all going to be pretty old when this good I mean it's, been thirty two years while he's since you guys won the World Series and it's been, a bad decade really for this organization they haven't, had much success I know they made the playoffs back. To back years and fifteen and sixteen but. Outside of that it's been a lot of losing so something does need to change how about Michael. Conforto guy, while looked at thinking he's legit all-star future all star going to be the Mets everyday player and you. Know bats second, or third in that lineup he's been terrible this year. Would you be concerned about Michael Conforto moving forward you think it's about a shoulder injury. That he dealt with last year evaluate Michael Conforto force I wish I had still that that's. My valuation I wish I had him I think, Michael Conforto, is could, still be a great player I think it's it's..

"And you're going to be the face of this franchise and i don't think there'd be anything wrong with that jacob degrom is another name who certainly pretty prominent at these all star festivities he's pitched as well as anybody in baseball this year and you know his name has been floated out in trade rumors by the mets given how disappointing they've been this year and then yesterday his agent brodie van wagon and decides to tell everybody that you know if the mets aren't going to sign jacob degrom longterm even when they have under control for two more seasons they might as well go ahead and train them what do you think the resolution is going to be with this situation with the graham and the mets well again you ask a lot of hard questions we're here this is a difficult time right now i'm going to say that the mets knowing if they're ever gonna contend anytime soon jacob degrom and no senate fired need to be healthy and at the top of the rotation and therefore i don't think they're going to trade him i think they're gonna sign a long term i think they should sign him longterm he's only getting better he's got a one sixty eighty are a and even though you can redirect its franchise pretty darn well by trading your best pitcher it just doesn't make sense to me in a lot of ways so i think they'll keep him and signed him longterm because he told us again yesterday on baseball tonight i'd like to say with the mets but he's not gonna stay there if the team keeps losing and they're not going to offer him an extension and the other thing that complicates matters from the mets standpoint and i guess in turn to graham is that they need the first figure out who's going to be calling the shots in the baseball department with sandy alderson stepping down they're gonna probably go outside the organization to interview some candidates and that's not something that's going to be resolved until later on in the off season right and of course that complicates it even more and what further complicates it or maybe makes it easier that this is a new york team across town to really popular new york team the mets just are not in a position the royal can do that and other teams do that but the mets have a hard time doing that and that's the other reason i think they're going to keep to ground but you're right they gotta figure out if they're going to trade him or make any moves who's going to be the guy making those decisions certainly we're talking baseball with tim cartoon of course you're on espn radio i was caught by surprise late saturday night when the word came down from the cardinals that they were dismissing mike metheny you know with one day left before the allstar break begins i thought the timing was a little odd they're in you know we've read all the stories about maybe some dysfunction in the clubhouse and forget about the on field performance of the baseball team number one were you caught off guard that that took place number two d think that a joe girardi for example is going to be the eventual manager in waiting for them while that would i i have i was a little surprised that they made that move because they're the cardinal brian they really don't fire their manager in the middle of a baseball season but the bottom line is being is really just a little bit over five hundred or roster construction not particularly good and i'm not sure you can blame that on the manager but i know and saint louis these days people over can't really ansi there i mean this will likely be three years in a row without making the playoffs and that's just too long but if you're a cardinal fan so they're a little bit here and if patient there which is unlike great cardinal fans and that just shows you maybe move was.

"He got so that's that's the trade you don't wanna make for a jacob degrom who's leading the league in earned run average so you know a trade of that sort has to begin with an established young quality major league player that means either glacier torres or miguel undo or if that's not part of the discussion then there's no trade that's it no trade i mean you start there and then you'll get add sheffield and you could add frazier that's your minimum i've you know those three at least i would insist on the fourth prospect as well they're not doing that then i give you all those guys right well the they're not getting jacob degrom method is very simple you know of tyler austin was going to be a good player greg bird's doing nothing right now i know they want to get bird going but i mean if tyler austin was that good he'd be playing no brand the jury come on now i have but hicks hicks becomes the best outfield well the the one good thing about texas he can play center field which the mets don't really have a center fielder right now he would agree with that but he's i'm sorry he's the he's okay he's he's not is better than anything they got better than anything that the mets got but that's not saying much what did they die but if he he becomes the cleanup hitter and their best outfielder yeah he'd be their best defensive outfielder yes that is true but he's not he's not a cleanup hitter come on team yes he is but again that's not the point you don't want to be a bad team with a mediocre cleanup theater that's not what you want the bill we get you're not building with aaron hicks i bill with as the beginning i'm not like okay i got hicks i'm done if he's been cleaned up now get more people are moving them out of their pay if he's if he comes along with with andrew harr and sheffield and frazier then i'll take them see i would love that but then the cash with not gonna go you ain't gonna give up and don't make the trade and in two years older don't if they're any good anymore we're still nowhere guy do something guys do something but i understand you want the best yeah we'll see if i'm the yankees i mean you know you keep hearing about j happen and those kind of people i don't think you really improving yourself that much you don't want to give up anything good to get a picture like that you really if you're the yankees you wanna get a really one or one eight five starting pitcher and if you do get jay hap is he getting a start in the playoff yes but but but who well over sunny no i mean yeah but he's like the back end you're not gonna it'll be tanaka it'll be severino it'll be cece and then if you need somebody he'd be your fourth guy but you might actually be head of cc he got to see where where cc is right at the end of the season through the other the other thing is i keep saying about the one when you got to get somebody else severino the scares you yes i would love to i i wanna get severino the on the yankees but i can say give me those those those top players did not gonna do that right so we're back where we started there's no deal yeah which was basically all know to begin with because that's not the kind of deal i i have a trade i don't i don't know what the other end of it is but if i'm the yankees and i wanna make a deal with the mets and i would go after jerry blevins actually because they could use a lefty in the bullpen i think blevins would immediately get his act straightened out if he went over to the other side of town would you trade blevins for shreve no i don't want blevins stink if you're the yankees stinks the yankees no the yankees would definitely prefer blevins over shreve i guarantee you i think they're still working on that they you get that one inning for the next up by ten down by ten you put him in the next thing you'll get five outings and maybe he's back they would they would definitely want blevins over shreve as far as i'm concerned and or or even now it's probably not room to have both of them but because they're so loaded.

"In the month of june and now it's a three game winning streak and they have found they're hitting shoes a little bit and what is very very encouraging watching nemo just develop into a star here and hitting lefthanders and the same thing with conforto and to see jacob degrom do is thing and get some run support amin listen the baseball gods finely shining a little bit of light on a metropolitan team that has gone through just dark cloud of a season just a nightmare of the season so very very positive to see the team responding on them simply and getting some again good starting pitching about the only guy you can trust of course is debrum but the bottom line and starting pitching has been okay and better than okay with the with their overall er hey it's the bullpen and the offense that have been the achilles heel but tonight you saw one inning of a bullpen performance that got the job done with a ten run lead and of course job the offense and nemo has just been opening is and an inside the park home run deleted off home run number eleven for him and then the outside the bar homerun number twelve four for six for him and for our b is three more hits and i think it's i think together well yes i can say this seven for ten nemo and conforto seven for ten they were in the game tonight and there are under thirty so even though we make fun of the metropolitans with being with the everybody can't have enough over thirties on your team with the maltese stas and was signing of the gonzales and so forth and so on what you are looking at what you are looking at.

"The fan what's going on hey steve what's going on listen i got a question about jacob degrom and the mess okay what do you think they should do at the trade deadline well you know listen i think it should be the selling i mean the season is over they're not gonna make the postseason not going to be a wild card this is not a very good baseball team the manager also is questionable at spry yeah the i mean they're just not gonna get there so the idea i would try to get some youth some athleticism some position players some hitters would basically be selling not so much vine because you buy if you think by adding to the team in scoring to help them make a push in the last two months of the season for serious october baseball i don't think that's going to happen with the mets i would like to be wrong but i don't think that's going to happen what about what about what familia well familiar listen you know six of one half dozen of the other you don't have too much confidence in him he has not had a good season there's no question about it who has blevins giving up the home run from earlier today doesn't get handers it you know who's better getting left out nat bullpen then blevins gazelle men gazelle has a better better record against lefties then blevins should be the closers if i yeah i mean i have no qualms with that him and lugo the two best guys in the bullpen i mean they have been i mean they've had their moment.

"I asked people last night would you rather have great starting pitching and a decent bullpen or decent starting pitching in a great bullpen and i don't have to hesitate for a second i'm thinking the great bullpen tonight another example yankees in a tight game sobat the gives you a hundred pitches six innings actually five and two thirds and the rest is history so he gets five and two thirds which is what fifteen seventeen outs leaving you ten outs that's a lot ten out of twenty seven that's baseball these days most nights you have ten eleven twelve thirteen outs to get when you're bullpen night after night after night after night and i look i think that that's a great argument to me to me you say tell me i can trade glacier torres and get jacob degrom i probably trade glacier torres for jacob degrom labor another minor league player but i do it because i'm the yankees and i'm loaded with offensive players so i've not creating a huge hole i am creating negatively in that i really wanted to dig laboratories is career as a yankee fan and yankee fans would be sour because he's done nothing wrong and they think he's going to be the next hall of fame yankee so i don't think that that would say it's interesting i don't think it would be a popular trade at the beginning with yankee fans and it might not be the right thing to do but i think it's a hell of a question i do i really think it's a hell of a question would you trade glacier torres and another prospect would you trade glacier torres and chance adams.
