A highlight from MilitaryFares.com with Scott Lara

"Scott Lehrer president of military affairs comm is a US Navy veteran taking his passion of traveling and serving fellow veterans He was recently appointed president of military affairs comm an online travel website giving deep discounts to veterans coming up next on veteran on the move Welcome to veteran on the move if you're a veteran in transition an entrepreneur wannabe or someone still stuck in that Trying to escape this podcast is dedicated to your success and now your host Joe Crane As a member of not -for -profit Navy Federal puts members at the heart of every single thing they do Find out more at Navy federal org Alright today we're talking with Navy veteran Scott Laura who is a president of military affairs comm Scott You and I've been in you know in loose touch for several years now You've been following the podcast like almost way back since the beginning if I remember correct Absolutely, just a huge fan of the podcast and appreciate everything you do Joe for our veterans and family members of veterans Yeah, so let's start off like we usually do take us back and tell us what you did the Navy Oh my gosh back in 1979 I was working at the Kmart camera department in Aurora, Illinois Just outside of Chicago and I was about to graduate from high school and my assistant manager there said Scott What do you want to do after high school? I said I have no clue, but I don't want to go to school You know don't want to go to college and he goes well join the Navy see the world Well, the problem is he didn't tell me that the world was 75 % water. So I joined the Navy When I went into Chicago to get all registered They said, you know, what do you want to be? I said, I really don't know and they said well What about a fire controlman? I said, well, I don't want to fight fires and the guy laughed He goes well about like being a radarman and it's like that sounds cool and they said, okay Well, you'll go to boot camp here in Chicago in a couple weeks. I said I'm going to San Diego They said you're going to San Diego cuz I mean I joined in set in September and it was starting to get cold So I went to yeah, I went to boot camp in San Diego at 79 then I went to a school at Damnet, Virginia Went up to Maine to get my ship the Morrison FFG 13. It was in three pieces in Bath, Maine They put it together. We sailed down to Boston and Was commissioned there went to Mayport Went to church there in Jackson, but here in Jacksonville met my wife I'm married 39 years to grown kids and two grandkids And so I love the Navy and all over the world Italy Spain France Panama Canal off the coast of Iran and Iraq and I love the Navy but I stayed in nine years It was just really hard on my wife with two small children So I got out and then I went on my entrepreneurial journey. We'll talk a little bit about that What was your transition like when you got out of the Navy you get a job right away? Was the entrepreneurship thing already there? Well, fortunately and the one thing I want to share with the audience. It's who you know, and You've got to be out there you and it's not even the internet It's just like who do you know? Because I knew some people and I was able to get a job with a division of driver's license in, Florida So I got out I immediately had a job I wasn't making a ton of money but I was an employee and I worked there and then I of course I got a couple other jobs to as Other things opened up. But yeah again for those folks that are listening to the podcast you got to get out there There's no one who's gonna promote you but you and you got to be professional. You got to look good You got to speak good and it's who you know, and I will just say for anybody listening reach out to Joe or myself We would both love to help anybody to to move into that transition the only thing I would caution you about is that a lot of people will try to come after veterans and say hey Join this franchise and you know 50 $100 ,000 and a lot of us don't have that kind of money A lot of us don't have time to go back to school Now a lot of guys do have the GI Bill or other Opportunities like that, but I always love helping fellow veterans get on the path to a good job and success Yeah, it's so true it's who you know and unfortunately if you've been in the military like you were for nine years You may not have a big civilian network But you might have a network of veterans that got out before you and keep in touch with them but I hear I've heard stories were like I applied for a thousand jobs and didn't get one response from anybody and it's like Well, that's pretty typical these online job boards most of the time you don't get hired from them unless you know somebody on the inside and Then you still got to apply through the job board and then because you know somebody your Application gets pulled and then you find your way in it's it's it's all about who you know Definitely one super secret tip. I'll share Joe is that veterans get one free year of LinkedIn premium so just go on LinkedIn you know let them know you're a veteran and There's lots of free courses on LinkedIn and that that's my secret. I mean, that's how I know people Being in the travel industry getting to know the CEOs of these travel of these cruise lines And once you're on LinkedIn and you reach out to them and be humble be nice. I am so -and -so and But again, the problem with the military is they really don't prepare us for civilian work We veterans think well just because we're a veteran or we work hard and we're dedicated. We should automatically get the job Well, the job market is so tight now that they're being very selective on who they hire Yeah, they want they want somebody to have all the qualifications that they already need They don't want to train somebody like the military always does train people from scratch In the civilian sector, they don't they don't have time to train you They they need you making them money from day one And but there are there are some good skills military guys have as far as you know The soft skills the leadership the motivation You know, they show up to work on time They're not late, you know, those kind of things can be huge Some some people like to view those things as maybe the givens of a typical good employee But if you don't have some of those basic skills that the job requires, it's it's really tough for civilian companies You know to hire you and bring you in because they can't afford To train people for months or years on end like the military does well Joe You make a very good point in addition to that guys. You can't go in. I want 80. I want 90 I want a hundred you may need to go in for 25 or 30 thousand get your fee You know be trainable be open listen learn and once they see that then you can go up But I think so many people Joe think, you know I deserve 70 80 90 100 and maybe your wife or your spouse wants you to make that money To bring it in but you got to be realistic absolutely As a member owned not -for -profit Navy Federal puts members at the heart of every single thing that they do Low fees and great rates resources to help you crush your financial goals 24 -7 access to stateside member service representatives with award -winning customer service earnings and savings of four hundred seventy three dollars per year by banking with us an average credit card APR that's six percent lower than the industry average a Market leading regular savings rate nearly two times the industry average I'm still with Navy Federal after 33 years and not going anywhere Navy Federal is insured by NCUA NFC you reserves the right to change or just continue promotions and rates at any time without notice Dollar value shown represents the results of the 2022 Navy Federal member give back study credit card value claim based on 2022 internal average APR assigned to members Compared to the advertising industry APA average published on credit cards comm value claim based on 2022 internal regular savings rate average compared to 2022 industry regular service average rate published by FDIC gov learn more at Navy federal org In a startling description the UN food chief warned the world with words knocking on famines door He called what we're facing a perfect storm of a perfect storm He's not alone parents published that a food shortage could be coming even in the u .s.

A highlight from Self-Defense Laws and Online Radicalization

"I believe they want to save the environment. The fact of the matter is none of the results of everything they do doesn't help the environment. Like you said, that guy just donated all these money to environmental causes. That money is going to go so these people can strap themselves to something on a highway instead of planting trees. All righty, welcome back. Mike Lomas, Go Legal Financial guys. I should have asked you. I guess I'm hosting. I just opened my mouth. Not that there's like a host here because we don't take commercial breaks, but we are the financial guys. It's a place where money meets politics and thanks for tuning in to a... I love these podcasts, by the way, between morning mics, podcasts, and radio shows. We're doing what we love to do, which is really cool. And I love the 45 minutes and out, 40 minutes and out, no commercial breaks. It's pretty good. It's nice. So I don't know where to start. Western New York here. Glenn, you're down in our Florida office now, but we'll be back here shortly. I'm in our Western New York office. I'll be down to Florida shortly, so back and forth. But Florida is all about hurricane, hurricane, hurricane. I love these environmentalists. So they're like, oh, by the way, every hurricane is a once in a lifetime storm. It's like, okay, I think they go the last... This has never happened before. Well, coming into like the Gainesville area, well, actually it was 170 years ago. Now, hmm, what did we not have 170 years ago? Oh yeah, the freaking automobile, right? Like they want to blame all this on climate change, but it happened 170 years ago. Because it's hitting that part. It's now global warming. And it's so stupid, right? I remember when we were talking to Congressman Chris Collins on the air one time and we were talking about, he was talking about Marco Island, houses on Marco Island. Just bought there. He just bought a house there and he bought there because there was no way that anything, though, the hurricane had never, ever, ever... Because of the way that... Let me back you up for one second. No, no, no, no, no. Let me back you up for one second. As we were doing that, because you and I, we have offices down in Palm Beach, the storm was heading right for Palm Beach. And he said to us, he said, that's exactly why I bought a Marco Island. When I kid you not, we got off the air two hours later. The storm had gone south around the tip of Florida and back up in Marco Island. It literally did. It jogged left and it curled around and it came right back and whacked Marco Island and went right across Naples and right across Lake Okeechobee. I know God's got much bigger things to do than listen to the financial guys at a Saturday afternoon. However, however, it was sort of weird that at 301, as soon as we got off, that storm turned. Really, you guys, karma right there. But the point is that storms, they do whatever. They hit different parts. It's not because of global warming. It's just stupid. Honest to God, what a dumb statement to make. We've been warm, cold, ice ages. We've had hurricanes that have hit the panhandle, Louisiana, Texas, because it just hasn't hit that particular exact spot of the coastline. Are you out of your mind? It has. 170 years ago. That's what's funny about it. 170 years ago it did. So really it did. But not within the last, you know, not since 1974 when they started to keep statistics on it. It's just stupid. These people are lunatics. By the way, we were talking for the show, you know, Patagonia, the guy who created the clothing brand Dives, right, left almost all of his fortune to environmental groups. That and along with Hollywood are the people that are funding these whack jobs that are putting other people at risk. Let me ask you this, though. Everyone's seen this video by now, right? The tribal police, they literally, they take the truck. I love it. They just run over the thing. They clear the road. They arrest everybody. We're not in violence. We're not in violence. Here's the thing, though. Let me ask you this. These are, are these, are these all beta males in that line? Because I got to be honest, if I'm anywhere near visibility of the front, I'm probably going to walk up there after a while, I'm going to probably pull off the road and maybe take a walk or drive down the shoulder. If I can see what's going on and I realize there's a protest, I'm rallying like, you know, half dozen, dozen other rednecks in that line. How long would it take to walk down the cars and grab, you know, nine, 10 other, you know, guys and just say, okay, we're moving. And when they say they're nonviolent, well, you're, you're holding up a, you're holding up miles and miles of people in the desert, right? I mean, look at, I drove, I drove through the desert a few weeks ago. It was a hundred degrees. If that 110 actually during the day, if I'm stuck on that road and there's nothing else, by the way, I can't like turn my car off and just sit there without air. I've got two kids in the car, right? There's people that have animals, pets in the car, right? So you turn that car off, you don't get air conditioning, you die. If you run the car, you eventually run out of fuel. I mean, they are a real threat. They are a real danger and they may not be violent, but it doesn't mean they're not putting people at risk. I tell you how many people could die at 110 degrees. I tell you what, you can be as nonviolent as you want while I'm kicking your head in to get you off the road. I gotta be honest. In the middle of the desert, you blocked the road in the middle of the desert. I'm finding as many of the rednecks as possible and you're getting an ass whooping. I gotta be honest. You're getting out of the road. They needed that. I'll give you 10 seconds to get out of the road or you're getting an ass kicking. Fortunately, it was on tribal land as we were talking before because had it not been, you'll get some liberal piece of shit prosecutor that will now charge the police officer instead of saying thank you for saving the lives of all these people that could have burned to death in their cars. That's the game now, right? That's why George Soros funded all these, right? You remember those folks in St. Louis, the attorneys who protected their home with an AR -15 and a pistol. Now, I don't agree with the woman waving it around like a pointer. That was clearly... But she didn't have the proper skills to let it go. That was her property. You can wave the damn thing any way she wants. Get off her goddamn land. She had the right to defend it. Get off her land. Get off her land. And they prosecuted her. They went after her, right? So all these people in these states, if you're a non -friendly state like New York, you have to really think twice about defending yourself. Think about this. I know. Somebody breaks into your home at two o 'clock in the morning. Think about this for a second. You're by yourself in your home. You don't have your kids. You don't have your wife. You have nothing to worry about to protect. You have an opportunity to go out the back door and get out of your home. Now, however, in New York State, you have every right to defend your home. Is it worth it? I mean, think about that for a second. I'm going to stop and think about that when I'm in New York now. Do I just leave the... I'm going to leave the house and let my guest just break into my home because otherwise I'm going to get prosecuted. Or at least I'm going to get investigated. What if you can't leave? What if you can't leave? What if they have you at gunpoint? Well, then I'm defending myself. Well, then I'm defending myself for sure. I mean, but that's ridiculous. It's to the point where it's just so asinine. I mean, the old saying, rather judged by 12 than carried by six, right? But still, you shouldn't have to think like that. In Florida, you don't have to think like that. In Florida, you can be in your car and have somebody threatening you in your car and defend yourself in your car. I .E. Florida's at a 50 -year low when it comes to crime, 90 -year low in Miami. Because the criminals know it. The criminals know it, right? They know. By the way, it doesn't make it. It's perfect. But I'll tell you what, it's a hell of a lot better. You know, look at... We own a financial company. When your crimes are up 50 % in one state and down 50 % in another state, those are pretty telling... That's a pretty telling tale, right? Like, you know what? Like when we pick stocks, we look at numbers and like, gosh, boy, those numbers are really good. Well, I think let's do more of that, right? Let's maybe buy some of that company, right? I mean, just sad where we are in the states like New York and California. How do you not look at the crime? By the way, I said to the group the other day, it was Chicago. There was a bunch of reporters who actually got mugged as they were doing their online report. The report. It's crazy. And like you said... I did a charity golf tournament with a client on Monday. He was part of our team. A police officer. And he said, he goes, Mikey, he goes, it's absolutely disgusting to see these same people that we arrest time and time and time again. One of the illegal aliens who was out on a bail to rob some cars. Illegal. In the country, illegal. He's out on cashless bail. A joke. A joke. But yeah, here we are now in the national media for the rest of the week and the weekend we'll focus on this tragic shooting in Jacksonville, right? This is one tragic shooting amongst many, many, many tragic shootings. The manifesto will be released right away, I'm sure, right? He's already is a white supremacist, 21 year old young kid, and you'll say, well, we should not have the guns. Okay. So he, instead of walking with an AR, he could have walked in with a pistol, done the exact same thing. But here's the thing that at some point, are we, I mean, are we actually going to have an honest conversation about what is radicalizing these kids? You know, whether it's on the right or the left, on either side. The mental illness problems, which we continue to say something, but we refuse to look at any of that, right? You've got a huge homeless problem in this country. Part of it is caused by the welfare. Part of it is caused by the massive amounts of mental illness that's out there. And instead of getting these people in the right spots, getting them medicated, you know, getting them in the right direction, we just let them back out on the streets because boy, they can't have that on their record. If they have mental illness on the record, they'll never recover. Well, guess what? If they have mental illness, they'll never recover. Right. Well, this kid, like this kid was the Asian one that's mostly white. Did you see that? That was a different one. Yeah. Yeah. The mostly white Asian. That was another, another classic headline from CNN. Right. The mostly white Asian. No, this one was the Jacksonville kid, a 21 year old and tragic. Yeah, sure. So anyway, so the, but the thing, they're all, everyone's out there immediately. It's like, we've got to do something about the systemic racism in the country.

Kevin McCullough on hurricane watch duty for you this morning. Hurricane Idalia making its way across the Florida Panhandle. Actually, it hit much further north on the western coast than what I had realized. I thought it was coming in a little bit further south. It kind of came right into the armpit of where the top and the bottom panhandles reach. And as it's moving up into across the area, it's almost splitting the goal posts evenly between Jacksonville and Panama City. And that means that Georgia is next in its wake. And then it's going to be headed up towards Charleston and Wilmington before it eventually turns out. Maybe even regaining some strength and heading out to the Bermuda area before it finally dissipates. So there's a lot of mileage still left in this storm, and we are keeping our eye on it for you. If you would like to help the people of Florida and Georgia recover from this, the Salvation Army will be doing great work. I know that Mike Gallagher is a big believer in the Salvation Army, as am I. So I would be glad to recommend them to you this morning.

"Well, first off, I'll confess that I had the split screen on with the Red Fox Astros, and I had a little bit more attention on the Red Fox Astros than I did on the debate. But I thought all the candidates there would do a much better job than Joe Biden. I thought, in particular, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, Mike Pence, leaders that I know well and have worked with, did a good job of laying out what is America's national security interest and why we do the things we do. And as you point out, that song, which is kind of an unexpected lead-in to the debate, could be seen not just in terms of economic or domestic policy, of what bad trade policy has done to working-class manufacturing jobs, but also what it means for national security. It is the working men and women of America and their children who, by and large, are cashing the checks that elites in Washington and New York are writing when it comes to national security. Not to say that some of those people don't have sons and daughters who join the military. I know they do. But by and large, it's folks from working-class communities. Oftentimes, the sons, daughters, or grandsons and granddaughters of veterans themselves who are cashing the checks that our leaders are writing, and that we should be more hard-nosed and clear-eyed about exactly why we do the things we do. So, for instance, the talk about Ukraine, I think it's very important to do what Joe Biden never does, which is explain why we support Ukraine for our interests. We're not doing this because it's a charity case. We do it because it's good for America. It's like Ronald Reagan. Why did Ronald Reagan champion the cause of solidarity in Poland or championed the contras in Nicaragua? Yes, he esteemed them and admired their fight for freedom against communist repression. But he didn't do it just for that reason or only primarily for that reason. He did it because it advanced America's interest to undermine communist regimes in those countries. And just like today, we can admire and respect the brave Ukrainians who have fought against such difficult odds, but we're doing this because it's in America's interest, not because it's a charity case for them. Do you believe that it's always too little, too late with Team Biden? Because right now the Ukrainians have had a breakthrough in the southern part of the front, but not all the way through to the Sea of Azov. They don't need to get all the way to the Sea of Azov actually, but they're making progress. They don't have any F-16s. If we'd given them the F-16s a year and a half ago, they'd know how to use them right now in the Biden administration. They've certainly given too little, and they've certainly done it too late. I hope it's not actually too little, too late, because that would mean that Ukraine doesn't have a chance to succeed in the defense of its land against this war of unprovoked aggression by Russia. But you're no doubt right, as we've said many times over the last two years, Hugh, going back to before the war started, that President Biden was too timid and weak and scared to do what he should have done, which is give Ukraine exactly what they needed to stop the invasion in the first place, or in the early days of the war, to give Ukraine all they needed to stop the invasion from going as far as it did. So for instance, in the early days of the war, it was the Battle of Kiev, and the Ukrainians were very effective in bogging down Russian columns of armor coming out of Belarus and stopping that invasion. It was clear, once that invasion was slowed down, that Russia would shift to the east and engage more traditional armored warfare. What didn't we do? We didn't rush to the more anti-tank weapons, long-range munitions, cluster munitions, tanks and armored personnel carriers, or aircraft that could be used to stop that invasion. It was a day late and a dollar short. Therefore, the invasion was more successful than it might have been. Look what we did last winter. Again, we slowly delivered the aid they need. We allowed Russia to consolidate its position, to dig in, to lay minefields, to lay other kinds of defenses. If Ukraine had had everything it needed when it needed it, their offensive could have started months ago, before Russia had a chance to dig in and solidify its position. And now you have, in the media, a bunch of Biden administration officials sniping on background that Ukraine is not fighting the kind of war we would fight, what we call combined armed warfare of infantry, maneuver forces, plus armor columns, plus artillery. Well, one of the reasons they're not doing that to you is that we only do that when we've established air superiority. Exactly. I love that. Thank you. We're out of time, Senator, but thank you for bringing that up. You can't do combined arms without controlling the sky. Bingo. End of story. Senator Cotton, always refreshing to have you. "Welcome back America. I'm Hugh Hewitt. Senator Tom Cotton represents the great state of Arkansas. Good morning, Senator. How are you? Good morning, Hugh. I'm good. It's good to be back on with you. Thank you. I have a very small question brought to my attention by a retired Marine Corps general officer last night. From the fall of the wall until now, we have gone through a bad war in Serbia that Bill Clinton ran did not see 9-11 coming. We executed poorly in Afghanistan, disastrously after 20 years. We executed poorly in Iraq. Then we were followed by Barack Obama's disaster in Libya, disaster in Syria, disaster in Iraq, leading to ISIS, the second, the first invasion of Ukraine. Then we had the second invasion of Ukraine. And our 2006 national security strategy under Debea did not have any strategic vision. Why can we be so bad at this? And this is not a Republican or a Democrat question. It's an American question. We have not had any strategic vision since the wall came down. Why? Hugh, it reminds me of something that Bob Gates famously said in testimony in front of Congress, I believe after he left the secretary of defense. But, you know, our record on predicting and planning for the next war has been perfect. Going back at least since Vietnam, if not World War Two, we have never gotten it right. And you're right that too often, especially since the wall came down, that leaders in both parties do not have the foresight, the basic appreciation of the context of geography and history and our constitutional system to proceed who would have been our major challenge. For instance, with China, you know, going back to Tiananmen Square in 1989, would that George H.W. Bush had taken a firmer line there, used it to undermine communist story in that country. And that both parties, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and partners in Congress had not empowered China by giving them first permanent most favored nation status and second entry into the World Trade Organization, which has powered them not only to expand their military, but as often almost always happens, once a growing power economy takes off to grow their military as well. So there's been a lot of mistakes made over the last 30 years. But we made those mistakes based on poor choices, not based on inevitable trends, or forces beyond human control. And therefore we can reverse them in reverse in effect by making the right choices doing things like rapidly and significantly rebuilding our defenses to prepare for a potential war against China and therefore hopefully to deter that war, or to signal to China that we're not going to let them get away with something like invading and annexing Taiwan back to the mainland. That kind of firm, quick, resolute response to any kind of aggression coming from China is the best way to deter war from happening in the first place. So the general obliviousness of America to a pending disaster. I mean, we didn't see Pearl Harbor coming. We didn't see Korea coming. And that's MacArthur, Acheson, George Marshall, and Harry Truman didn't see Korea coming. We stumbled into Vietnam and the Kennedy best and brightest didn't see that killing DM would result in what happened, five more years of disastrous war under Democrats and two under Nixon. And then all this, did we give up studying strategy in the American military? Why are we bad at this? Well, Hugh, I wouldn't lay it at the feet primarily of the American military, military leadership. I would lay it at the feet of America's political leadership. Just to take the example of Vietnam, for instance, that war did not have to become an American war. It could have been a war where we supported our partners in South Vietnam. John F. Kennedy made two key mistakes early in the war. He cited one of them, allowing them to be overthrown and assassinated. He was certainly not a member of the Little Sisters of the Poor, but he was pro American and he was the best leader South Vietnam had against communist aggression. But second, he also enabled what became the Ho Chi Minh trail by being so soft with Russia and North Vietnam and Laos early in his presidency. That war never had to become an American war the way it became from 1965 to roughly 1971. That's the result not of military failure. That's a result of poor political statesmanship. Let me pause on that. I just finished reading this biography of Nimitz, E.B. Potter's biography of Nimitz. It's fabulous. I've never even knew anything about Chester Nimitz other than he ran the Pacific war along with MacArthur. And he was trained in the Hard Knocks School of Realism. Learn a disaster occurs. You immediately have an inquiry like the Battle of Lady Golf where it was Bo Halsey, et cetera, and then you correct and you move forward. Kabul, this book about Afghanistan, the exit. We learned nothing in 20 years, Senator Cotton, and you served there. Why could we not learn anything in 20 years in Afghanistan? Well, I mean, some of this goes back to your initial point, what, you know, Bill Rood, who you may have known in his years down at Claremont in your time in Southern California, called the Democratic strategic deficit, not just America, but countries like Great Britain, in particular World War I and World War II. You know, our societies are not organized along martial lines. They don't appeal to force to resolve disputes in the same way that dictatorships do, like China today, Russia today, Russia, Russia almost always, Iran. And therefore most peoples and therefore their leaders are focused on the pursuits of peace, of commerce, of earning a living, of family, of community. And therefore their leaders tend to be focused on that as well. And they don't focus on gathering dangers over the horizon, as opposed to aggressive dictatorial nations. When that's the way of life you have at home, it tends to concentrate the mind abroad as well. But it's a common, unfortunately, it's a common recurrence throughout history, especially throughout the history of democracies is that they don't see the next war coming, or even if they see the next war coming, they'd rather just push it off one more time and hope that it doesn't come. I mean, just think all the chances that France, but especially Great Britain had from 1923 to 1939 to stop World War II, or at least make it much less bloody and less protracted than it was, you know, whether it was the Ruhr crisis or the Abyssinian crisis, the remilitarization of the Rhineland, even the Sudeten crisis, much better to have fought over Czechoslovakia in 1938 than it was to fight over Poland in 1939. Yet, Great Britain's leaders, not just network Chamberlain, but most leaders kept thinking if we just give them one more concession, turn one more blind eye to their aggression, this will satiate them. This will be the end of the conflict, when in reality, it simply empowers them. And I feel that's what Joe Biden and his administration is doing today in China. I mean, they have Gino Raimondo over in China this week, kowtowing to Beijing, giving them every kind of concession and accommodation possible. All that does is embolden Xi and Chinese communists. Now, with that long runway, I want to turn to the debate on Wednesday night. I know you're not aligned with anyone. You're not endorsing anyone. You're following the race closely and offering advice. And I'm sure you'll send a copy of Only the Strong to every candidate who requests it, probably autograph it for him, underline it for him. That's Tom Cotton's book on defense. What did you make of that debate? And in particular, the first question about the song Rich Men North of Richmond would have allowed a candidate to go anywhere. Nobody went to Afghanistan. Nobody talked about the second anniversary of the collapse at all. I mean, it was kind of remarkable for two hours that no Republican brought up Joe Biden much.

Did you go to the Clapton concert that saw my birthday this in a month? Oh, is your birthday in a month? I didn't know you had a birthday. I do. Once a year, just like everybody else does. So fetching this, you had asked me how much weight you lost. I said that's a debatable thing on my page. It's not debatable around my house. How much is it? 50. But no. Now one pound for every lap around small world. Eight. So you lost forty nine eight six four six four four nineteen hundred. That's a six four six four four nineteen hundred. My Ph.D. weight loss. Skinny Dwayne, woke Dwayne lost 50 pounds. So he gained four of them back and he didn't make it 50 times around small world. But my Ph.D. weight loss dot com. It does work. Give him a call. Have you guys heard that President Biden is bragging about Bidenomics recently? I mean, talk about being out of touch. "Unless, unless, unless they have a plan and the only plan that makes sense, the only one is what we ended up doing with the Lockheed property, which is you up zone it and give it away for the tax value, the tax deduction. This is a tax planning strategy because it's such a nightmare. I look, it's not a nightmare for the lawyers. All my kids went to college on the Endangered Species Act and the Clean Water Act and the California Endangered Species Act and CEQA and NEPA and the California Commission. May they forever rot in in land use hell. But, but, but maybe they know that. And maybe they're, they're saying, we're eventually, the worst it is, is a tax deduction for tax planning purposes. Maybe they've got the kind of accountants that billionaires ought to have. And they know that they've got to write off investments at some point. They've got to offset gains that they make in tech. Now, it is possible that they made their money in the unregulated space of Silicon Valley. I mean, nobody told Steve Jobs he could or could do nothing. One of, Steve Jobs widow is deeply involved in this group. Nobody told the people who started Google and the people who started Facebook, nobody told them what to do or couldn't do because they're an unregulated space protected by the First Amendment. Land use is not such a space. It's regulated by local, state and federal officials. Moreover, there are statutes that apply that bequeath citizens standing on anyone who wants to see. You can do a deal with every single person in Solana County and every fed and every state official. And at the end, if one person changes their mind, they can see and delay their development for 10 years. This is my life. I know this life. I was doing radio and television the whole time, but I, I've always had a condo in the, in the broadcast field, but my life, my living until I retired in 2016 to do media full time was land use law in California. But I also did Nevada and Oregon and Palau and Hawaii. I went all over the place for endangered species in wetlands. And I know it pretty well. I kind of forgot more that most people know. And if you ever need an endangered species lawyer, the best one in California is named Andrew Hartzell and my former partner, whom I trained. And Andrew has actually, he's better than I ever was at it because he got more patience for the morons running some of these agencies than I do. And he will dutifully call them 5,000 times if that's what it takes to get them to move because they lost the plan and he'll send it to them again and again and again. But the habitat conservation, they're not, they can't be intending to break ground on a planned community in Solano County. It's not possible. So here's what I think we ought to watch for. Now I'll be gone. You know, in the 50 years it takes for this to happen, I'll be dead. I'll be in heaven with the angels, but I'll be laughing if they're actually trying to develop this. But what I suspect they're doing is they're going to up-zone part of it and then donate it for the higher value. And that's perfectly legitimate. They'll give a conservation easement over it. Maybe they'll get one house per square mile and they'll do a conservation easement. But if they really intend to build a city in Solano County, then they're morons. Then it proves that Silicon Valley has happened because at the intersection of need and technology, a few people were standing around your Stanford's campus. That's it. That's the whole deal. Silicon Valley is not some story of genius. It is the story of technology advancing to meet unmet needs in a particular place at a particular time where a lot of people had a lot of money. And they stayed there, which is kind of stupid because you get taxed at 13 and a half percent if you're a billionaire and you can't hide your money. And some people do like Peter Thiel put his PayPal stock or something into a into a Roth IRA. So it's got billions in it, can't be taxed. And they get mad that smart people do lawful tax avoidance schemes. There's nothing wrong with a lawful tax avoidance scheme. In fact, I had to laugh this weekend. There's a story out that the SALT deduction cap didn't work out the way the feds thought. They were going to cap the deduction that people could get from state and local income taxes at at at some amount. Turns out that everyone can figure out how to avoid that because number one thing you have money to pay off your mortgage if you can't deduct it anymore. All right. So that's a lot of people did that. Number two, you get an L.L.P. to buy whatever property you're using for a business. And it works because of the pass through deduction in the Trump tax reform. But I really, given what they're doing, which is the playbook for losing, it is the playbook for losing a land use war. There were two kinds of land use lawyers, me and everybody else. And I won. And that's because I never don't don't do stakeholder meetings. Don't hire PR consultants. You can never get 100 percent in a citizen standing environment. Don't do that. Let's go to war and not war war. But let's go plow every field that have an endangered species in it and tell them to pound sand. Let's push aggressively on jurisdiction. If they threaten you, we'll sue. Let's if anyone says you're in a critically habitat occupied area, challenge that. Hire biologists send in the in the hearings. And if God forbid, fire should sweep over your land, never let it grow back. That's number one. My greatest land use victory happened after a massive fire destroyed a bunch of California gnat catchers. And the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said to me, you can't build there. Gnat catchers used to live there. And I said, bring the tractors, boys. They got nothing. And they did. So I'm very aggressive, very, very aggressive. These guys are not these guys are lefties who want to make everyone feel nice. I have seen it again and again and again. There's a whole bunch of land use lawyers. Let's make nice with everyone. Cannot be done. Defend your property rights. Go to the mat. Sue everybody who gets in the way. And maybe you'll get some houses built. Maybe. I mean, they're promising parks and development. People up there don't want parks and development. They want to be left alone in Solano County. Really, they do. So this must be a tax avoidance strategy. That's all I can come up with.

"Speaking of age, the Ramaswami Pence clash, according to the New York Times, shows new rights radical break from Reaganism. No, no, it doesn't. It shows stylistic differences. Welcome back, America. I'm Hugh Hewitt. I was walking in Portland, Maine on Saturday. We drove down from Midcoast to Portland, fetching Mr. Hewitt and I. We don't know anything about Portland, Maine. Nothing, except having had dinner there a few times. So we take a walking tour. And it was fascinating. The city's burned down four times, and that was interesting. But I learned as I did that that cobblestones, they're not cobblestones, they're pavers, are really not the world's greatest thing to walk on for a long period of time. But wonderful, wonderful city that's soon going to be the center of artificial intelligence in the United States because of Northeastern University's decision to build an AI campus up here. And that's very, very smart. They're going to focus resources on a campus and they're redeveloping it. It's very, very smart. You know, it's not very, very smart buying 55,000 acres of land in California because you want to build a new city. And that was the story that I spent a lot of time talking about, thinking about this weekend. The New York Times broke the story on Saturday. The Silicon Valley elite who want to build a city from scratch. A mysterious company has spent $800 million in an effort to buy thousands of acres of San Francisco Bay Area land. The people behind the deals are said to be a who's who of the tech industry. And they are indeed a who's who of the tech industry. They are under the heading of the Flannery Associates. The Wall Street Journal explains investors bought nearly a billion in land near a California airbase. Officials want to know who exactly they are. Well, who they are, they are wealthy billionaires in Silicon Valley, including, among others, Michael Moritz, who's a billionaire venture capitalist. And a couple of young men, Jan Sremach is a trader at Goldman Sachs. And a couple other guys said, you know, we got an idea. Let's buy up all the land in Solano County that we can. So they have bought up 55,000 acres. Now, if you divide that by 640, you'll figure out that it's about 80 square miles of land. And they want to do a city. Now, I'm no stranger to this topic. Because I spent 30 years I'm retired as a land use development lawyer in Southern California, for the largest landowners in Southern California town ranch, for Mission Vale company, for the Irvine company, for every builder you want to name and the largest single project I did was 10,000 acres for Lockheed Corporation. I know what they think they're doing. They think they're doing what Mission Vale and Irvine are, master plan communities. And that's because Mission Vale and Irvine were run, respectively, by brilliant geniuses of the 60s, when urban planning was a thing. But in the 70s, Richard Nixon signed the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, and California followed with its own versions of that. And now land use in California is a nightmare. And getting anything built is a nightmare. So these guys are too smart. All right, so I'm thinking to myself, they're too smart. They've got to have done due diligence, right? They've got to know about the California red-legged frog. They got to know about the California tiger salamander. Very shrimps all over the place, various breeds up there. The giant garter snake is a perennial pain in the neck. And we don't even silver or spot butterfly. There are more endangered species in Solano County than there are wineries. So these guys go out and they buy $800 million. And I just spend my time, they can't be that stupid to think this is going to happen. And I mean, you start with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, the Army Corps of Engineers, the United States EPA, California Department of Fish and Game, California EPA, the Regional Water Quality Control Board, and you're looking at a 40 year development. And some companies like Party, a publicly traded company, a subsidiary of Weyerhaeuser was my best client, my very best client. Leonard Frank was my favorite client with whom I'm still in touch. He'd been retired too for a long time. And we would get together and we would by inch and foot and yard move a development forward. And so many developments take 25 years. I mean, I worked on one development three times because recessions come along and you stop. And so a bunch of billionaires got together and they said, let's do what Walt Disney did in Florida. Well, they can't be that stupid. They can't be that stupid. This thing will never happen. It will never, ever happen. If it does, it'll end up being if they bought $800 million and it actually is 85 square miles, they'll end up with, you know, four houses to the square mile. You can do it. But you're not going to do it on a wetland or a water of the United States. And you're not going to do it on on endangered species habitat that's occupied. You're going to jail. Now, one, they may be counting on the Pacific Legal Foundation and the United States Supreme Court majority that currently sits to reinvigorate the Fifth Amendment and more power to them if they want to sue their way there. But I read a couple of the press releases and these guys are saying the classic wrong things like we want to work with the stakeholders in the committee. There are no stakeholders. If you own the property, you own the property. We don't care about who's next door. If you're not Red Chinese, if you're not the Chai Comm, you know, buying up land next to Travis so you can spy on Travis Air Force Base. Nobody cares what you do. You can try all day long. But they didn't even mention the feds. They have no idea what they're doing. This is my guess is that they went out and hired some land use consultant who realized you got a big fish on the hook and they're going to plan.

"And that's because a priest who's a capable man, not the world's greatest homilist, was giving a homily on the succession of Peter, the fact of apostolic succession. And it's a fact. You're a Peter and upon this rock, I will build my church. That's Jesus talking. That's nobody else. If you're a Christian, you've always got to ask yourself, you know, Calvin and these guys and Luther, they got going in the 1500s. What was going on for 1500 years? The apostolic succession. Hello. So anyway, this is about the apostolic succession. And the priest pauses and he said, and Pope Francis is the Pope. He's not the anti-Pope. Benedict retired. You can retire. It wasn't the first time ever. But then he said something that really encouraged me. He said, and I know a lot of us are often disappointed with the Pope and his rather unusual statements and off the cuff remarks. I almost stood up and started clapping, which you're not allowed to do, actually, because, you know, I feel bad when I say things about the Pope, like he's a loopy anti-capitalist from Argentina. And no wonder he has a weird view of America, because Argentina has a weird view of America. And did you know that the president of Argentina was buried in the Metropolitan Cathedral in which he said mass every day? So it's, you know, it's really a screwed up place to come out of. They have a state religion. So and they had a dictator and they had most evil man in the world, according to the late Chris Hitchen on this show. So I'm not surprised that the Pope is clueless about economics and about politics, but he's also completely wrecking the theology. And then the pastor said, you know, we got spoiled. We had John Paul the Great, Saint John Paul the Great, and then we had Benedict, who will be a doctor of the church. And I might be confusing what he had to say, but he was basically saying we had these two great theologians, and then we get Francis. And he said, we pray for the Pope every day. And it confused me, threw me a curveball. I thought you said the first three prayers for the Pope when you did the rosary. He said the last three prayers for the Pope. But whatever his point was, the Pope, don't worry about it. The church goes on forever. And he's right. If you take the long view, you get a Gregory the Great every few hundred years, and we got two in a row, theologically speaking. Now we have to deal with the dumb Germans who are destroying the church in Germany and want to bring down the house around us. But I've been in a good mood because I finally heard someone from the pulpit say, look, the Pope isn't exactly the guy we thought he was going to be, and he was supposed to be a short-termer, but he wasn't. And the guy is pretty old now. He's older than Joe Biden, which means he's really old. And, you know, people just take advantage of folks who are 85.

"Hugh, where are you on the GOP primary after the debate? Well, since I think Governor DeSantis and Ambassador Haley won, I've moved my chips around. 40 on the former president, 40 on Governor DeSantis, 10 on Ambassador Haley and 10 on the field. I also got the name winners and losers, by the way. And so here are my winners and losers of the week. I mess up my winner because the former governor of Ohio is Ted Strickland. You'll hear how I screw up the dismount. Cut number 26. There's Hugh first. Ted Strickland, ambassador, excuse me, Ted Carter, the ambassador, the Admiral Carter is the new president of the Ohio State University. He's arriving in time for Marvin Harrison's Heisman season. So congratulations, the new president of the Ohio State University. Loser. The loser is the judge in Georgia, Scott McAfee. What a nightmare to be in charge of the Trump trial. It's going to be Lance Ito 2.0 and I feel bad for the judge already. I do. I feel awful for the judge because two of the 18 defendants have petitioned for a speedy trial, as is their right. Of course, the former president wants to slow it down. And again, the former president isn't happy with me this morning, I'm told, because of this comment on special report cut number 25. 23. Hugh, where are you on the GOP primary after the debate? No, cut 23. Cut 23, Harley. And what it means? I think it inevitably hurts the former president's bid to be re-nominated. Now, he's still ahead. He's still ahead by a lot. But among the Republicans I know there are never Trumpers, sometimes Trumpers, always Trumpers and only Trumpers. They always Trumpers are starting to fray a bit because this is a lot and four in a row is a lot to deal with. And they're doing the best they can to make this lemonade. But it's not a good day for the former president. It's not a good day when your mugshot is taken ever. They made a lot of money from it. But I responded to the president's death, as I said. He's always welcome here every day, every hour. Could be the best interview in the world. But you can't win the nomination by not campaigning. You've got to campaign and you've got to do the debate. That's my humble opinion. You can't win the nomination if you don't show up and ask for people's votes on radio shows, on television shows, and on debate stations. I'll be right back, America. Don't go anywhere. There's a lot more news on today's YouTube show. Good morning, America. I got to tell you, I was encouraged at mass yesterday for the first time in a sermon in a long time.

One of the former president's people told me the president was not pleased with my wager because he's so far ahead. I have to be candid if you're not campaigning, if you're not doing debates, if you're not doing radio shows, if you're not doing television shows, if all you are doing is Tucker, you cannot win this nomination. He's got to go back. And especially if he gets sucked into these trials, he's got to go back. I discussed why I thought this was cut number 23. Hugh, your thoughts of it and what it means? I think it inevitably hurts the former president's bid to be re-nominated. Now, he's still ahead. He's still ahead by a lot. But among the Republicans I know, there are never Trumpers, sometimes Trumpers, always Trumpers and only Trumpers. The always Trumpers are starting to fray a bit because this is a lot and four in a row is a lot to deal with. And they're doing the best they can to make this lemonade. But it's not a good day for the former president. So it wasn't a good day. And so I wrote back to the Trump strategist, tell the former president that he's welcome on this show any morning. Indeed, every morning. He's the best interview in America. But you've got to show up and you've got to be on the campaign trail. And you can't just do Tucker. You have to do Tucker. You've got to do the debates. Now, what do we know about the Jacksonville shooting? Not much, except that Ryan, I'm not going to say his name, the 21-year-old who killed himself, was a stone cold racist and the murders after they occurred. Let's go play that cut number four. I was able to speak with Sheriff T.K. Waters in Jacksonville about the horrific shooting that took place. This shooting, based on the manifesto that they've discovered from the scumbag that did this, was racially motivated. He was targeting people based on their race. That is totally unacceptable. This guy killed himself rather than face the music and accept responsibility for his actions. And so he took the coward's way out. But we condemn what happened in the strongest possible terms. We've offered support for Sheriff Waters in the city of Jacksonville. And we send our condolences to the victims and their families who were the victims of a very cowardly act. You know, the governor attended the vigil last night and spoke, and some morons actually booed him. And honestly, there are some things that are not political. And the murder of your fellow citizens, whether or not you agree with the people who run your state, is not an occasion for politics, an occasion for grieving. Three Marines were also killed in a helicopter accident in Australia over the weekend. Five were seriously wounded. Another Marine, a F-18 pilot, crashed and died in San Diego near Miramar. So it was a bad, bad weekend for the Marines. And our hearts go out to all of the great men and women of the Marines. Florida is facing a significant hurricane threat as Adela moves towards it. Adela brushed Haiti and the Dominican Republic. And it was a bad day for them as well. But it didn't take the full brunt of it. Florida has to get ready. This brings me back to the last day of our Food for the Poor campaign. I'm not going to bug you anymore, but I'm going to ask you one more time. This is going to be a horrific hurricane season, an absolutely horrific hurricane season. And we've already had two storms, one of which hit Haiti and DR Square on, the other one is brushing by it. And so I would love if you would please step up and donate today. Anitra discusses why it's so important to be a participant in Food for the Poor campaign, because it gives them peace of mind. Imagine being a parent and knowing, okay, you're suffering, but how will you provide for your children? How can you maintain a peace and a calm when they're seeing that they've lost everything? Right now, your gift during blue skies changes the trajectory of the family's future. That's what we're inviting you to be a part of right now. Now, I am hoping that Fetching Mrs. Hewitt and I support Food for the Poor. I only allow people to sponsor campaigns on the program that I personally support. So we wrote a big check. And if you will write a big check, and maybe a big check for you, it depends. That's the widow's mite, right? If you've got $100 in the bank account, a big check is 10. If you've got a million dollars in the bank account, a big check is, well, 10,000 is still a big check. If you can afford 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000, maybe 100,000, these people get the relief supplies to the folks that nobody sees. The banner is at the top of hughhewitt.com. I love Food for the Poor. They've been doing it for many, many years and they know what they're doing. Or you can text my name, Hugh, H-U-G-H, to 91-999. Or you can phone 855-359-4673. And if you're one of the families that spent, you know, the weekend getting ready for back to school and you went and spent, you know, $200, I think maybe about $20 for the kids who've got no schools and now no food because this hurricane, these tropical storms and what a season is ahead. And the governor was warning people about Edalia. I want to fire whoever names the storm, Edalia, really. There's a lot of Ramaswami Pence back and forth over the debates. And I'm going to go back again to Special Report on Friday night where I was playing candidate casino. So I want to, I want you to hear what I thought about the debates with candidate casino. That would be cut number, candidate casino, something Brett does every Friday. Cut number 25. Who's going to win the Republican nomination was the question.

"Morning, glory America. Bonjour, hi Canada. I'm Hugh Hewitt, August 28th, Monday. Now I think summer is over. Some people want to technically argue the case with me, but kids went back to school. Parents were celebrating. Summer is over. They sort of went back to school. I'm not sure some of the public schools ought to qualify as schools. Welcome. Monday morning. That means a couple of things. Today's podcast, The Grand Old Pod over at The Universe, which you can now try out for 99 cents. If you've been wondering what that's all about, go sign up for a week or a month. I don't know what it is. For 99 cents, listen to Grand Old Pod, which I do on Monday and Wednesday and Dwayne does Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and find out about. This weekend was a lot of bad news. The worst was, well, there are a couple of bad stories. Three innocent people killed in cold blood at a dollar store in Jacksonville by a racist. And this racist is a crazy man. He had been taken in for an involuntary psychiatric assessment under the Baker law when he was 16, which I do not know how he was able to purchase the weapons. And he had earlier gone over to the historically black college in Jacksonville and was going to shoot that up at security scale, but scared him away. There are many, many mentally disturbed people in the United States, some of whom are racist and some of whom are other things, but none of whom should get guns. That's my bottom line. I will be talking to Ambassador Nikki Haley about that later. If you were listening to Fox News on Losers and Candidate Casino, let's go over to Candidate Casino first from Friday night, cut number 25.

"Well, and so to start, the Chinese with the neuro strike weapons, they are the biggest developer of neuro strike weapons, and that is their ability to engineer and change brain activity. And it is, you know, something that we should all be worried about the same way they're developing hypersonic missiles and we're behind on that. I mean, look, that exchange in at the debate, the problem I had with that is it was just naive at best. It was naive to sit there and think that you can go and give Russia, you know, this part of Ukraine and say, OK, now don't go being friends with China anymore. That's just naive. And we have to keep Americans safe. You can't experiment with this. You can't do that. And we can't be. This was the other part that bothered me. We can't be so narcissistic in America because we've been that in the past. You can't be so narcissistic to think that America doesn't need friends. It's ludicrous. We need as many alliances as possible for these have to say that we're not going to fund Israel, that we're going to stop funding Israel. We need Israel as much as Israel needs us. They're the front line of defense for a while. You know, you talk about Russia. Ukraine is the front line of defense to war. We are trying to prevent war. If Putin says Poland and the Baltics are next, believe a dictator when they say they're going to do that. And so giving them a bit of Ukraine, guess what that does to Putin? It leaves him wanting more. It tells China they can go ahead and make the move in Taiwan. It tells Iran we're not serious. That is incredibly naive to sit there and think that that's the way the world functions. I've negotiated with China. I've negotiated with Russia. I've dealt with Iran. These are thugs and dictators. When Putin's talking, Putin's lying. And if you don't get that, then you are not going to be able to keep Americans safe. Does that position, let me put it this way and close out. Did the debate help you? Did you see online donations tick up? Did you see people show up at events? Did it help you? Because I called you and Governor DeSantis the winners of that debate.

Welcome back, America. Ambassador Nikki Haley joins me now. Good morning, Ambassador Haley. Thank you for joining me this morning, and welcome back. Good morning, Hugh. It's great to be with you again. I want to begin with the tragic episode this weekend in Jacksonville, where a racist gunned down three black people shopping at the Dollar General Store. Had he been able to get on the campus of Edward Waters University, he would have done more damage, but he wasn't. You were governor in South Carolina when Dylann Roof murdered nine black people at Mother Emanuel. Why does this keep happening, especially on the political fringes? The racist right wing, the extremists on the right, and the extremists on the left, as happened in Nashville, Tennessee recently. Why? I'll tell you, I mean, any time I hear of something like this, it takes me back to a very dark place. It takes me to, you know, those days where South Carolina was broken, and we couldn't believe that this was the first time it happened in a place of worship. We couldn't believe that it happened during Bible study, and we couldn't believe that that murderer would have that much hate in his veins. And I think if you go back and you look at, you know, what caused him to be like that, and I'm sure they're going to find that about this murderer as well, is, you know, there's a lot of hate online with social media. We've got a lot of mental health issues, and you combine that with the rhetoric that is happening in America of division and, you know, just being able to hide behind, you know, something on social media and getting angry, it causes for a bad cocktail. And when you get that, people die, and we have to stop this. And there is no place in America for hate of any sort whatsoever. We have to call it out when it happens, but we also have to understand, every person in America has a responsibility, a responsibility for what you say, a responsibility for how you act, a responsibility for how you raise your children, a responsibility of way things are talking about in the classroom, and a responsibility to not let the narrative of America be to define people based on how they look, how they act, where they're born, what their hair color is, what religion they are, all of that. We have to see every person as a mother, daughter, sister, father, son, brother, and know that every person is a child of God. And, you know, we just can't stop until this stops happening. It's horrible. I feel for those families. I feel for the community. I feel for the state of Florida. Ambassador Haley, I had Secretary Clinton on half dozen years ago after she had lost to President Trump, and she put, she pegged the number of hardcore racists in America at about 600,000, a number I don't disagree with just based on percentages, not even a small percentage of those armed is dangerous. How do we change that climate of hate that leads so many people to act out their violent fantasies, whether on left or the right, whether it's in Jacksonville or it's in Nashville, how do we stop that? Well, I'll point you back to what happened in South Carolina. I mean, when we had those murders, that was on the heels of Ferguson. And, you know, what we did was very different from what those did in Minnesota after George Floyd and those around the country did, which is they went to riots, they went to violence, they went to, you know, worse behavior. And what we did was we turned away from that fear, we turned toward God, and we turned toward the values that make this country great. And, you know, I'll remind you that it was 60 years ago that Martin Luther King gave that speech. Look at how far we've come in 60 years. That should be the motivation in saying we're not done yet. We're not done yet, but we can do it. We have proven we can do it. And our goal in America is to make today better than yesterday. Our goal in America is to make sure that every American feels a responsibility, that Americans take care of each other, that we love each other, and that we continue to teach our children to be that way. And, you know, that falls on the media. That falls on politicians. That falls on leaders. That falls on teachers. That falls on pastors. It falls on parents. And we have to know that and live every day knowing that. Now, I want to dial out to 30,000 feet over America's history since World War II. And I just talked about this with Senator Cotton. We didn't see Korea coming. We didn't see the disaster of Vietnam coming. We did not see 9-11 coming. We did not execute Iraq or Afghanistan correctly. President Obama blew Libya, blew Syria, did not prevent Ukraine from being invaded the second time. Georgia happened on W's watch, but nobody saw China turning. The national strategic document that W produced in 06 is just like two throwaway pages on China. And then this administration did not prevent Ukraine second. What is with America's strategic deficit? Why do we not prepare for the next conflict, Ambassador Haley? I think it goes back to our intelligence. I don't think our intelligence agencies are up to par. I don't think that we are getting the proper information. If we did, we would have seen the fall of Afghanistan the way it was. We would have seen so many of those other events. And we're just not getting it. And that's why when I'm president, we're going to go back in and fine tune the mission. Don't forget that when we talk about modernizing the military, make sure that we have most up-to-date ammunition and equipment to prevent our men and women in the military. We also have to make sure we have the most up-to-date intelligence. And we are archaic in that. And we are not as good as our peers. And we need to make sure that one, we strengthen those partnerships of intelligence. Two, we get our intelligence agencies back on the mission of saving Americans. And then three, make sure that what are we doing to make sure we have the top of the line information so that we do that. And then that's only the second leg of it. The third leg of it is communicating. Tell the American people. Treat American people like adults and give them the information you have and what we need to do to protect ourselves. Why in this last decade did it not come out that the Chinese were buying up all of this farmland? I mean, food security is national security. Why didn't come up that they were running cables underneath that farmland to our military installations to spy? Why didn't it come up that 90% of our law enforcement drones are Chinese? Why didn't it come up about the harm of the research that was being stolen from the universities when all those millions were going in there? Why didn't it come up that Chinese front companies have been lobbying Congress? Why are we allowing foreign lobbyists in the first place? You know, why didn't it come up that China was developing these strike weapons that can actually engineer and change brain activity of military leaders and groups of people? What more do we need to know than to realize it's not that China's coming. China's already here. They have infiltrated our country. You know, I do not know anything about the neuro strike weapon, Mr. Madam Ambassador. So to fill us in on that, but I know you got a hard out. So I want to give you the last question and take as long as you want. The most memorable exchange of the first debate was between you and Vivek Ramaswamy, where you said you have no foreign policy experience. You have no foreign policy experience and it shows. My question is, given our disastrous record in foreign policy, does a lack of experience in being wrong matter? Because we've just been wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.

Atika Valbron is my project manager. Justin Milner is my audio engineer. John Russo is my researcher. I'm Barry Ritz, you've been listening to Masters in Business on Bloomberg Radio. Broadcasting 24 hours a day at bloomberg .com and the Bloomberg Business Act. This is Bloomberg Radio. At least four people are dead after a shooting at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida. There are conflicting reports as to whether the gunman is holed up or has been shot by police. There's a large police presence outside the store. Boston mayor Michelle Wu is speaking out after a shooting that injured seven people this morning during a parade. Treasured community event has been disrupted by acts of violence from those who had nothing to do with the event and there's absolutely no excuse. The shooting happened during the Jouvert parade which is part of the city's Caribbean American Carnival. Police say the victim suffered non -life threatening injuries. Two people are under arrest and firearms were recovered at the scene. Police commissioner Michael Cox said the shooting was not related to the parade but the parade was halted due to the large crime scene area. Civil rights groups are gathering in the nation's capital today marking the 60th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s historic March on Washington. Martin Luther King III called it a continuation of his father's fight for civil rights, not just a commemoration of the event. We're coming together to say we must create the climate for America to move in a forward direction, not a backward direction. Organizers say about 75 ,000 people turned out for today's march and rally.

"I don't know if I like that. I I like as a coach like an outlier in appearance like a Like someone who's either very old Not in great shape Like looks battle -hardened. There's something to that for me because Well Vic Fangio is Mike McDaniel's defensive coordinator Now Vic Fangio is still the head coach of the Broncos we'd have and Vic and I are from Scranton That would have been a very well Vic is from Dunmore I'm from Scranton. Let me because he'll correct you when you say that but That would have been an obvious one, but you get rid of Vic Fangio you get rid of me as a franchise So but Vikings are good But again, it's like I like So what I like about them So the wholesome part like Kirk Cousins has got that covered but on top of that, right like I do think like the way they treated their plate like one thing that was very noticeable to me was the way they handled all their outgoing players this year and If you go back and you look like Dalvin cook Patrick Peterson Eric Kendricks All these got Adam feel and all these got Dalvin cook all these guys they offloaded None of them have anything bad to say about the Vikings because of the way they handle those guys on the way out And then what you have remaining? Is maybe the most exciting young player in the game and Justin Jefferson, right? Proximity, New Jersey, that's an easy flight. It's a Delta hub So you have like you can get there really really easily and probably like an hour and a half two hours I feel like the young core there is good. They're very Forward thinking with quasi Adolfo Mensa is their GM who's kind of like a good merger between analytics and scouting. I Think there's a lot there I mean I just think that and I don't think that they're at the level of like the Bears or the Giants where it's like Alright, like that's a hit. That's a team that like has Like it's hard to just join that established fan base You know what? I mean? Like I feel like they're like maybe a notch below that and they're Minnesota nice. They would let me in My problem is I feel like as my kids get older. I need the head coach to be Older than me because like I think Kevin O 'Connell and I are pretty close to the same age We're in the same NFL locker room together when I was a young beat reporter and he was I covered him to Quarterback. Yeah, it's so I think like I would imagine like maybe one day my kids being like Oh the head coach of the Vikings is 40. Why aren't you doing anything? Cool dad? You're you're 40 so that's just something that's kind of the back of my radar, but I do I I Do support moving the Vikings up? to to a hot team Potentially and I do like I like that They're a little earlier in the cycle because it would be a little strange to I think the Jaguars are a very appealing pick It would be strange to become a Jaguars fan and then for the rest of your life people say Oh, how'd you become a Jaguars fan? And you say well, it was Trevor Lawrence's third season They had already proven they could win a playoff game and I said now's a good time for me to hop on the Jacksonville bandwagon Jacksonville just feels like I don't know. It's like too obvious too obvious That's how I feel about Detroit too, which is in this category. We haven't even talked about. Yeah. Yeah No, I'm with you Detroit's too obvious and part of this is gonna be You know, I want a fan base that handles success. Well, I think on this list a lot of teams that got punished Are teams whose fans when they achieve sudden success? Just collectively become like the largest group of douchebags on the planet and is that how you feel about Eagles fans? People would describe Patriots What I like about Eagles fans, I will say this you're getting dangerously close to early Bill Simmons era Boston and A Boston Red Sox Boston Celtics where you're making it a lot about you and I think you are over rating The struggle that's what I would say and it's there's a very theatrical Element to all that we had to go through in the empty stadiums at the link and oh The fellowship what we called it up here was right before they like the championships started here They called it the fellowship of the miserable up here But it's theater, right? It's acting some of it is Yeah, I mean like the whole like going to your you know Great -grandfather's grave site the day after the Red Sox won the World Series. There was definitely some of that Okay, I can see that to one up that I will say the morning of the Super Bowl this past year I saw videos from Philly where people were at their grandparents grave sites tailgating And they had run like they were tailgating with their dead relatives I remember walking into the stadium in Arizona being sent these videos Wait a minute Can you imagine like driving by a cemetery and seeing like an RV parked in the middle of it and just like a half dozen people hanging out But that's also part of why I'm weary about Philly like there's always there's already this established fan Subculture and then to be able to fit in I would have to be so extra beyond what I am now And so I think that there's a little bit of pressure there to be there's a high barrier to entry to be a fanatical Eagles fan I think yeah, I also think Philly is a very strong 4 -4 kind of city and I know there are others on the list I'm not saying that's exclusive to Philly But I think it it is Particular there where it's like the diehard Eagles fans are tend to be also diehard Sixers Phillies fans It's not an easy city to sort of pick and choose one team a la carte and have other interests It feels like everyone's very much dialed into all of the teams I know there are other four for four cities people probably listening to the saying or cities like that, too But it feels it feels like some very passionate fans as I know and I think it would be a tough place to just sort Of hop in as just an Eagles fan it would it would anybody else have a candidate to bump up from maybe teams So we're moving the Vikings up right moving the Vikings up Okay, I'm gonna have to you know, the Kevin O 'Connell thing is a me issue.

The Jaguars will host the Atlanta Falcons at Wembley Stadium on October 1st and visit the Buffalo Bills at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on October 8th. The Jaguars were set to play two designated home games in London in 2020, but the pandemic canceled those plans. Corrupt Media Strikes Again: Editing Donald Trump, Blocking Rep. Comer

"Of course, it's a lie that Trump invited a mob to go storm the capitol, I had an hour long conversation with the never trumper yesterday who went down the same road as Liz Cheney. I said, why do you suppose the media always always edited out what Trump said on January 6th? Were he encouraged people to peacefully protest? Why do they never include that in the audio clips they play from what he said at the podium? Because they're corrupt. Because they're corrupt. The media is corrupt. They are filthy. You want to know how corrupt I know Jim and Jacksonville here wants to talk about the corrupt media. Hey Jim, you want to know how bad the today's news media is. Can I start, do you mind? Go ahead. Today, the House oversight committee's chairman flanked by other members of the committee, James comer, made the big announcement of the millions of dollars that apparently have been uncovered that was funneled to the Biden family. 9 members of the family getting rich off of China, Romania, other countries. While Biden was vice president, CNN and MSNBC didn't cover the press conference. The only person that the only network that covered it was Fox News and apparently newsmax. CNN, MSNBC, blacked it out. It was a blackout. They won't touch it. Hey, Jim, that's how corrupt today's news media is.

The famous east coast base for the Marine Corps. And then I was selected for a officer commissioning program and then I spent the next three years down in Charleston at the Citadel attending college and getting a degree and becoming a commissioned officer. Then spent 18 months in the Quantico area going through the proper schooling to be an intelligence officer, and then I spent the last three years out in Hawaii at a place called Connie white bay and then finished up at camp Smith, but all of that being in Hawaii.

How Can We Realistically Engage in Politics? Floyd Brown Explains

"Realistic ideal, what does that look like for right now, the plumber in Jacksonville, Florida? He will listen to our show, hey, okay, I'm listening. What do I do? What is the realistic ideal? Involvement of engagement. Yeah. Well, the first thing I would say is that he needs to get to know his neighbors again. Up here in the north valley in Phoenix. There's a group called the north valley constitutional conservatives is what they're called and it was started by a guy named basil. He was upset about mask mandates during COVID. He texted 50 of his friends with his phone to meet for coffee to talk about how they could fight against mask mandates. 250 people showed up. Since then, they've stayed active. They meet every other Monday night at amped coffee shop and they are talking about how they can be involved and then they're getting involved. They've been involved in school board races, legislative races, they're involved as precinct committee men, they're involved as LD leaders. They are getting involved in the process and it all started with one guy getting frustrated and texting 50 of his friends. So that's what the plumber should do. He should either find a group like this where he's living or he needs to start one but organic and decentralized, totally organic and totally decentralized. There's a role to try to run for LD chair. There's a role to be a precinct committee person. But the hope really is kind of in the spontaneity, right? 500 people there, 200 people there, 300 people there, a church group of coffee groups. Yeah, and I really focus a lot on church groups. You know, I'm a Christian and I'm just so tired of the heresy inside the Christian church that says Christians aren't supposed to be involved in politics. No, when I become a Christian, Jesus governs every part of my life. That means

"That punt that led to the safety, you know, they pinned them on the one and it just felt like, first of all, I don't even remember the last time a QB has stepped on the back end zone. Orlovsky, right? But that but our last key played 15 years ago. So that was the last time? Yeah. 12 years ago? It was him and the Mark Sanchez butt fumble was redeemed with the butt punt. Yeah, so like two bonehead plays of the century come back. It's funny that he was like three yards out of the end zone. He was so far out of it. It wasn't even like his heel clipped it. This game tonight, 13 first dance for the niners, 14 for the Broncos. I just don't feel like either of these teams that they both showed some like a whole that makes me think long term. We try not to overreact in September, but for San Francisco. You saw it at night while they were trying to get off Jimmy G for the entire off season. I'd probably hiring him the most. And then for Denver, it's just that the coaching, all of it, did you notice near the end though that the guy ran out of bounce and they just ripped the clock off for 40 seconds. They ran the ball. Like with two 20 left or something. And toriko was like, huh, that was weird. It's like you have Mike Pereira right there, whoever you have. Just blew it off. He's like, but yeah, but really, let's give this credit to this day. You brought some Wilson told the guy to keep the clock going. Yeah, very strange. The best team we saw today, in my opinion, was Jacksonville. Yeah, maybe. Demolished the Chargers. The game was over within like 40 minutes. They did this to the colts last week. They have two ass kicks in a row. And I think to me, the story come out of week three other than some of the boneheaded stuff we can get into later was that Jacksonville, I think as a legitimate on the fringe contender now. And I wouldn't be surprised if they were a legit contender, like three, four weeks from now. I like that they're not just talented on both ends, two good pass rusher, defensive line, guys. Lawrence looks great. Two running backs that both were making stuff happen and the receivers are fine. And that team looks really polished. They look hungry. They have little killer instinct. They put the game away, they're laying it on Herbert, like really, really big time. I was impressed. That's two weeks in a row for them. I can't disagree with any of that. And but I'm eating a lot of crow because the AFC south was excellent today, right? Except for Houston, Chicago, whatever. I thought indie was dog shit in that game. That game was over 19 times. And then Ryan third and 15, Chris Jones gets the unsportsman like after the play is over. I'm still trying to figure out. The colts were done. They were punting mahomes is going to give first down the game was over. But there shouldn't be any week where the AFC south won three games. And the AFC and four loses three games. Right. Yeah. So that was a strange man. The Jags are sitting at plus two 40 right now to win that division. Yeah, well, I can't say anything bad about the Jags, but the Chargers are just, I mean, this was the one home field advantage. They were going to have, but the Jaguars fans that were actually chargers jerseys in the crowd, I saw. And they were never in it. Never, ever in it. And that coach, I don't know. I mean, the coaching is getting worse. Stanley had him in there at Herbert in there. Herbert barely standing upright down 28 points with three 40 left, and he's still taking snaps. What are they doing? It was 38, ten, he was in there with a minute left, wasn't he? It was a minute left. Yeah, you're right. Yeah. All the way. I thought it was questionable whether he should have even started because they were missing offensive linemen. They were missing Keenan Allen. I don't know. And then you hear about the Chargers team doctor and he's going to get a shot and it was like the parallels of that to the Michael Myers is back again commercials. You could stop thinking about it. Let's keep the team doctor away from Justin. How is this the same doctor? I think we talked about this last week. Is there a shortage of doctors in the LA area? What is going on with that? I was very nervous. Yeah, I was very nervous. The thing with Lawrence though, Kyle and I were reminiscing last year. When we felt like maybe Mac Jones had a chance to be better than Trevor Lawrence and then you watched today, it's like Trevor Lawrence, he's got everything. We thought last year, I gave him a pass for last year along with a lot of other people because it was like, that was the most messed up football rookie quarterback situation we've had. This urban Meyer thinks one of the all time atrocities we've seen on a first year quarterback. So just write it off. And the distance from last year to what we saw these last two weeks. And this looks like if you're starting a team, you know, Herbert, I think mahomes are still young enough to be in that conversation, but Lawrence is kind of edging toward that and Josh Allen obviously, but Lawrence is kind of edging toward that Joe burrow spot. Right? He's like four years younger, I think. Yeah. All right, I don't want to go. Well, I mean, I was thinking of the other way. Yeah, yes. Lawrence might be the cream of the crop last year's crop. How about what do you think with the two years ago rankings between to borrow and Herbert now? There's like two of them making a move. We're now like a week or two away from hearing that, like, to us now propel themselves to number one on that in those three. Well, he certainly number one on the I thought you were completely concussed. How are you back in this game? What the hell just happened? Unreal. And they're investigating, right? The players association is investigating. What are they investigating? It looked like Lawrence turns 22 next week. Trevor Lawrence. Wow. You should call and leave him a message. Two it looked like Trevor berbick after Mike Tyson knocked him out in the mid 80s where he was like delayed. He was wobbling around. It's like, well, that sucks because he was playing really well. I thought he was really good in the first half. And this sucks, this moment's ruined. And then all of a sudden there is in the third quarter. You can't surprise. You can't say his head bounced off the turf like daffy duck. You can't say it was a back injury, right? Yeah, they try to say it. Aggravated a back injury that there was a nerve that got triggered, which was why he reacted that. It was like, oh, that's what happens when you slam your head against the turf. I mean, this organization. What more can you do to them? You can take away the way. I'll say this because I thought that was a bad I mean, they ran, don't worry if you're a bills fan, honestly, 'cause I wouldn't be surprised if they won by 40 when they rematch in Buffalo.

"New players into league first chance to get the Jersey There's a run on the buying of those jerseys. The top five jerseys sales since the draft in the NFL. Now, Brady's Jersey is still going to continue to my home to Jersey is still going to continue to sell. I don't think anybody's buying the Rogers Green Bay Jersey that waiting to see if there's gonna be another jersey horizon, but the top players always sell, but the new guys make hay and headway when the NFL draft takes place. The top five selling jersey since the NFL draft in the NFL are Tim Tebow of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Yes, that Tim Tebow. I think it's number 85 18 or 85, or 86 preacher was a five um Tim Tebow in dark. I think Jacksonville got a black jersey with blue in it on Tim Tebow in the White Jaguar jersey top to selling jerseys. Both Tebow jerseys number one number two Tebow of Jacksonville, and that's a phenomenon unto itself the next three selling highest selling jerseys in the NFL. Justin Fields, his white Chicago Bears jersey. Justin Fields, his or in Chicago Bears jersey. And Justin Fields, his black Chicago Bears jersey. So places 34 and five and the top telling Georgie and the NFL are Justin Fields, Justin Fields and Justin Field, So they're buying into a big time in Chicago. You know, I'm buying into him. I don't know why guys like, uh, rich from Chicago. After checking and go all you rode that game, We got stored question. He didn't really played too well, just overlooking the unbelievable game. He had a couple of weeks later against Clinton in the national semifinal game. You don't wanna acknowledge that one I got beat up by Jeffrey couldn't beat out Jeff from in Georgia. Well, Jeff on finish up his collegiate career. He was drafted last year by the Buffalo Bills. The bills, of course, have their quarterback, which means Jeff from isn't going to be able to get on the field any time soon, But they they felt so strongly about Jeff from Is there back up? That the bills went out and signed Kyle Uh, Mitch Torbinski this offseason actually be the backup in Buffalo. So maybe Georgia just made a mist Ake in sticking with care from he was the established doobie and peels couldn't beat him out and field settle. Yeah, I'll take my act somewhere else, and it went to Ohio State and got him in the playoffs two years running. I think that kind of getting the job done for controversial, But there are some haters out there who just always want to paint. What's wrong rather than what's actually right. I don't get it with Justin peeled I, James, Pennsylvania is not gonna help us. Close out the hour. How are you? Day games? Morning. How are your duty? Good buddy. What's on your mind? I want to talk about the women's U S open, and I got a surprise. That I think can really chase and win. Okay. Lucy Lee. All right. I will readily admit I am not on top of the women's PGA Fields Tuesday. He's ahead, by the way, it's great to talk to you Happy Memorial Day to.

"Ke galeri. Welcome to the show. Thanks for having me. How's it going? I'm doing pretty well man. Like we said before I'm a little bit bored in the pandemic little bit bored in Vegas, but really can't complain right? I imagine most of you are already familiar with or Larry stories or at least part of it is an accomplished Sports and player and he's played professionally in both Madden and NBA 2K in 2018. O'Leary was competing in a Madden qualifying tournament in Jacksonville, Florida at that event a shooter opened fire to Madden players were killed Elijah Clayton and Taylor Robertson and O'Leary was shot four times. It was a tragic day to be a fan of Esports and gaming and the community really mourned. Yep. Senseless violence and since that day O'Leary's been on a path to recovery. His right hand was severely injured by a bullet putting doubt on his ability to compete again hands are pretty important as professionally sports package, but after working hard to recovery quickly really he's regained his skills made him a first-round pick in the first season of the NBA 2K league and it's returned to the league always with the Cavs gaming knew it from ten points and six points a game season 2 215 points and 12 boards in season three while continuing to be one of the best Rim protectors in the 2K League now, I story's been told by many different Outlets including by ESPN where you want an error for the best Esports one with the year as he returned to the 2K League. So I don't think would need to rehash all those different events, but I want to talk about the recovery a little bit and sort of those initial moments and how you put things back together quite literally to get back into 2K League less than a year after everything went down. What was that process like pretty tough battery have I went to occupational therapy for my hand for a few months was on bedrest couldn't really walk couldn't really do much gained a lot of weight. So it was tough recovery wise for the first year, but once my body got better, I just focus on you know learning how to play with my new grip and you know, things like that. Yeah, man, I had to imagine that's a pretty insane process to not go through and you mentioned how you had to switch your grip. I mean, that's something that really holding a controller has been something Our Generation has done since we were tidy kids. We're okay this Thursday. How this is just sort of how this feels. How did what was your grip before and then how did you have to shift it to accommodate for your injury that had to be a tough thing to adjust to? so beforehand it was like is obviously like a regular afterwards. I still kind of hold the controller the same sometimes for a little bit extra stability. I'll sit around like my lap or like my my thigh or my thoughts but for the most part now, I don't really use my thumb at all cuz I can't really move it or feel it is no real like there's not really much bone or anything left in my thumbs. Just a lot of metal and stuff like that. So what I did was I kind of play Claude now like e sports players referred to as claw or like my index finger does all the stuff that my thumb used to it took me. I don't know I want to say probably at least like four months to get used to man. That's that's pretty crazy to lose your thought or lose the feeling in your thumb like that or replace it with metal. What exactly how many surgeries did you have to go through for that? Surgeries too. And and the crazy part about that man is that people don't really like realize it but we do take a lot of stuff in life for granted. There's a lot of stuff that I got struggle with now he's on a day-to-day basis that like, you know prior was like regular stuff for me. Like it's kind of hard to even just like pick up the remote and change the TV. It's hard to tie my shoes. It's hard to like, you know button up a shirt or pants or anything like that because of my thumb damn man. I mean, yeah, it's crazy what the human body can do and like you said, we definitely take it for granted. It's really an important lesson for everybody to remember is just you know, what crazy things the human body just does on a daily basis and once you get injured how difficult that becomes just need to do those simple things and much less gaming like tying your shoes. That's the kind of stuff where it's like this is just cord of being a human like, you know, I might argue that video gaming is also corja Being a human in my personal life, but that's neither here nor there. Right, right. So as you're recovering and just looking at the 2K League, you know, you started back in the 2K League eight months after it all went down and that first year you're back in it. You'll get your ball and out you're playing. Well, it's still a great rim protector, but your stats have definitely jumped on this last season up another five points per game up another doubling your rebounds per game is part of that the healing process there. I mean you are first-round pick originally, is it something that's getting better with time or you just getting better at adjusting to it? I think it has to do with also like changing in like our league and re sport, you know different positions. Like I feel like The Meta changes year in and year out on like what each position does as far as like how well it rebounds off anything like that but it is also a testament to like like you said, I felt like I didn't want to I didn't want to let this stuff like Define me, you know what I mean? Like, there's people who go through stuff. If like this and you know, there's like you got to think like if a if a guitarist or a Pianist like breaks a finger or breaks a wrist or hand or whatever you want to say, like if they go through that they thought they're not going to just stop making music. They're not going to stop playing the guitar. They're going to find another way to keep going and I think that was like motivation for me was like do I like let this day Define who I am like a might just a Survivor and not just going to like say all right. Well, I can't play video games no more because I don't have a thumb and I think that was the motivation for me was like people saying, you know, like I'm not going to be the same player or you know my own I'm not believing in me because of the injury. So I think a lot of that stuff had a you know played factor in it, but overall. Yeah, it was just really about like just showing that I could still compete with the best and I think that motivation ended up where like I even got better, you know, absolutely man, you know, I want to be really conscious of that especially it's like, you know, you're way more than one person who is unluckily wrapped into a tragic wage. And and so I really wanted a lot of the show to be talking about the 2K League, you know your stories of course incredibly important, but what it's the only thing anybody ever talks to you about I imagine that gets a little little girl at times it does for sure. Yeah. So, you know, we we covered that there but you mentioned the meta in the 2K league and I really enjoyed the 2K League. I think they did some really unique bags and some things change for sure and I'll bet some of our listeners aren't as familiar with how the 2K League works. I haven't had anybody on this show since I had Moody back in like season one. I think so bought a new listeners join the show since we talked about that you mentioned the medic in I could break it down. But I feel like you probably do a better job of it. What how does the NBA 2K League positional off work? How are players balance? Because people should know this isn't like Steph Curry versus a Lillard out their players are playing under their own avatars with their own set of skills. So, can you break down sort of one? NBA 2K League metal looks like dead. So yeah, we don't use it NBA players. We use just like avatars how we want them to look deadly gives us a basically some preset build that each position. So obviously in basketball you have point guard shooting guard small for Power Ford Center. So the lead gave us eight different preset like archetypes to choose from at each position. And that's basically what that had to do was just like here, you know, you got different types of styles like, you know, you got guards who can shoot from really far you got guards who are better at slashing and you know attacking the room and it's just gave us the opportunity to just kind of like game plan and and pick the bills. We want to play with as far as you know, what fit our play style. So I think that's the cool part about the 2K league is that you kind of get the opportunity to like set the tone on how you want to play you get to dictate things. I know for the most part and a lot of Esports from you know, things are dead. Really but for us I feel like it's pretty balanced. It's a Level Playing Field that we all have access to the same stuff and you know, it's kind of like a chess match after that definitely and I think that works real. Well that was one of the big questions of like how our sports

"Ahead. Hey, J. R you kinda answered my question. When I was on home. I was gonna just make comparisons. The Knicks a venue. We've already kind of charge down that territory. Obviously, from the details you rather off. There's a big upside given what's going on with Jacksonville. Did the deal. Explain what terms of compensation he's going to be getting? No from everything that I've seen. I haven't seen compensation yet. I would gather based upon where other coaches a rat. You know, the rule comes in, and he hasn't coached a game in his life. And he was in that that that 8 to $10 million range, so I would figure Urban Meyer coming in. I've pretty much gathered a pencil him in at Or about $10 million given state Okay, That's pretty much whilst thinking Standard issue. What? Not like you Like You said with only one win. I feel a lot of upside here. Obviously, he's gonna have a lot of picks to make. And Urban Meyer is used to building more than just handing off the decision. Makers like a coordinator here are coordinator there so I can upside I can understand. The only thing people always point to you is Nick Saban. He's the example of a successful college quarter coordinates coach that went to the pros and didn't do very well and He just wanted seven national championships. I don't think he's gonna be moving out of Tuscaloosa anything but that's the only conversation I was gonna make. You come into that question when I was on hold. Well, no, I'm glad I'm ahead of the curve. Paul. Thank you. So much for calling up from New Orleans. Let's not out to Colorado and let's talk to Zach Zach. Your CBS Sports Radio, The J. R sport brief show. Yeah, I think there's no really that urban can work out. I'm just a little bit worried about the owner out. I think I kind of metal little bit job. How was it years ago? Their championship s o. Your audio isn't too good. Zach. I want to address what you just said. I am. I am less concerned about Shad Khan, and that is the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jacksonville Jaguars problems over the past several years. I hate to do it and mention it, but I primarily point to Tom Coughlin. Tom Coughlin, as we know was right there. When the Jacksonville Jaguars were basically awarded a franchise, he helped build them into a respectable team that just basically disappeared into the toilet. Not too long after we know Tom Coughlin eventually got the head coaching job of the Giants. We know about the success that they had Tom conflict also had to adjust his style. Things change. Tom Coughlin was a task master. Do what I say. You're five minutes late, Unless you're 15 minutes early, just etcetera. He had the change. He had to relax. And then they won again. He was basically on the hot seat. Retires. He has an opportunity to now run the team, The Jacksonville Jaguars the team where he originally was, and here we go. He brought in that same old man mentality and, unfortunately, the Jacksonville Jaguars got fined. Started ruffling the feathers of some of the stars. We've seen the exodus and Doc Way, Ramsey. I can go on. They weren't happy there and could you blame them? But this is a different this is a different situation right now. Tom Coughlin is gone. You're still waiting to see who the full time general manager is gonna be your bringing in Urban Meyer. I think it's less about shad Khan, but more so about who's running the show. He had a lot of faith, and he had a lot of patients in conflict until he couldn't anymore. All this started literally costing him money and finds J is calling up from Pennsylvania J. You want CBS Sports radio? How you doing? They are so perfect. I got two points to make. I think Urban Meyer and the lot is overrated personally, and I think you know, coaching. Usually, if you look back at the college championship top recruit team, they recruit the best win the championship. So if you got a better team you're supposed to want Secondly, if you look at the history of the college coaches, I don't know any college coaches that won the championship, a Super Bowl to Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer. So like these college coaches Don't seem like they're really like they can coat with even playing field. They can only coach when when the thing is loaded to their favor. I don't know. I want to know what you think about that well. And I said this in the last hour How many coaches at all. Let's think about every coach and now I don't have the statistics. It would be ridiculous. But if we really thought about every single head coach that was hard in the NFL. How many of them went anything. Look at that the odds and the chances of slim Coaches get hired to get fired. Forget college. We could say that about all offensive coordinators. We could say that about defensive coordinators. Could basically lift up my hand. And just say over the past 20 years, maybe 30 years. These are the coaches who have won titles and championships. And then everybody else is just like, okay, You got one. And then maybe you got one there and and you got to Let's boil that down so all 32 head coaches The majority of the head cultures right now in the NFL aren't going to win a damn championship. So I would unnecessarily measure that and say, Oh, well, College coaches can't win and I fell. Coaches get jobs and they can't win. That's just the reality. It ain't for everybody. You get your job, You get your salary..

"It's just not mobile. He's not mobile. So you just You know, he's a pocket passer. Who's not that durable. But he throws a good ball. It's just you got working around him. You gotta have everything I'll say this for for Jacksonville and Lawrence. You know on paper, you go. Wow, man, he they're going, he said. They're terrible team, and they are but They've got some pieces in place right now. That would make Laurence perfect. I mean that rookie running back James Robinson is a terrific player. They should all to the Colorado receiver had a decent year. Deka teach each Ark who you know. Now he's kind of put on weight Rod since the last few days. He's stronger and better, So they got a pretty good left tackle and Cam Robinson. There's they got some pieces. There were Lawrence won't just be totally naked. I think when, when they moved in front of the Jets, Yeah. He lost his Q rating going from Jackson, New York to Jacksonville, but he may have gained a better chance to succeed on the field. Still the JAG wars until proven otherwise been everything. I'm sit. There obviously is right. But there's still the Jack Morrison to build that team of Nancy Championship game like, three years ago. Yeah, they're second one in franchise history. So maybe you're like, really did that wasn't doing how to kill her deed? No, wait, wait. Not only were they in the a F c championship game. Shouldn't we have a lead? Yeah, Yeah, the one that camp Yeah, but Doug Marone was like I'm afraid to win Scary. It's crazy camp. Right back to the Jaguars. Whenever you're right, there's no way we're still comes. It's like the Marlins and the Rays. All that you're good and all of a sudden like now we don't like to be in good thing. Let's go back to sucking. The most fascinating thing about this year's draft is what the Jets do. That the Jets his side they're going to move on from Donald. Then Donald warned of somewhere else is well and that it's a matter of. Do you believe in Darnel? Did you order you got a handicap? The quarterback thing this year and I'm glad we have Brock on and Greg because they, you know, they're good as good as any. Brock watches both the college of the pro game. You know who who's you gotta make the right call. Whoever we don't know what Which of these guys is gonna be good over the next five years, but Some is good. Some of these guys, you're gonna bottom out some of these guys. You're gonna wind up a Super Bowl rings, and it's like you gotta pick the right one. Tough boy. That's why the especially this draft when you have a choice of those quarterbacks, and again if you believe in Donald, then you need to go get Sul and, you know, short your left tackle spot for a decade and you be good to go. Good to go there if you don't believe in him. You can take one of their two quarterbacks, Then that's left and probably recoup. I don't know. What do you think Rudy? Get for? Ah, Donald may be a late one or a mid to Manderley to somewhere around. What do you get What you get for him? You know, the speculation was at first the third round pick and then with her, And then people started to sing. What was gonna be higher? Barnwell? I think Suggested that somebody could get a second. But, you know, you know, I you know, it's hard to say it's beauty's in the eye of the beholder. I mean, you want Donald is a good option for Teams cap wise because he's only in that what 9 $10 million range instead of the 20 to $30 million range, So if you're the Niner issue is they got a huge core players They want to keep. And they got an expensive quarterback. So can they get a You know how many of these player what does the roster look like with Jimmy? What does the roster look like with whatever rookie and they may make that decision on the quarterback, all based on That you know what you know the two different rosters because that's a could be a dramatic difference. That's $20 million of players difference. They're the enemy. Interviewed with the JAG wars. Today, he finished up an interview the enemy did with the Jets. Yesterday. I would think that Eric the enemy's first question. Anyone who interviews for the Jets had coaching job there. First question will be Do I get to pick and choose what happens with the quarterback situation? If they say no, you move on, because if they make you stick with Sam Donald and you don't want to, that's a real bad way to start your marriage to the New York Jets. Larry's got headlines coming up Next Rock You were three o'clock here on the sports leader.
