"CBS News special report I'm Steve futterman in Jackson, Wyoming, where congresswoman Liz Cheney has lost her Republican primary battle to hold on to her seat. CBS News estimates that when all the votes are counted, Cheney will lose to fellow Republican Harriet hagerman. A few moments ago, Cheney addressed supporters here in Jackson. Two years ago, I won this primary with 73% of the vote. I could easily have done the same again. The path was clear. But it would have required that I go along with president Trump's lie about the 2020 election. The result is not a surprise, Higgins led by huge margins in the final public opinion polls, but this is another indication of the strength Donald Trump continues to hold in the Republican Party. Mister Trump did not hold back during the campaign and asking for his supporters to abandon Cheney. Cheney said her main goal continues to be to make sure Donald Trump never returns to The White House. Again, he loses to Hegel. CBS whose special report, I'm Steve futterman. Also knew this evening, the FBI interviewed both The White House counsel and his deputy, the former White House counsel in connection with the boxes of classified material being stored at former president Trump's Florida estate. The New York Times reports pat cipollone and Patrick philbin are the most senior people in the Trump administration known to have been interviewed by investigators when the national archives realized they did not have White House documents. They were required by law to preserve the contacted philbin, the deputy White House council to help retrieve the material. Sources tell the times the former president repeatedly insisted that the items belonged to him and not the national archives, a spokesperson for philbin, has not responded to a request for comment. "For a new connection in a divided city with hope for help from the feds. From ABC News, I'm Daria alberger. Wyoming congresswoman Liz Cheney says she put her country before her party. No House seat. No office in this land is more important than the principles that we are all sworn to protect. And I well understood the potential political consequences of abiding by my duty. And now one of the few Republicans to openly criticize former president Trump is projected to lose a state's primary. In front of a crowd of her supporters here in a hay field of the cattle ranch, Liz Cheney accepting her loss, but vowing to continue the fight against Donald Trump saying she will work to make sure he never steps foot in the Oval Office again. This primary election is over. But now the real work begins. Former vice president Dick Cheney looked on as his daughter conceded here. Alex stone, ABC News Jackson Wyoming. An Alaska Republican senator Lisa Murkowski faces 18 challengers in a ranked choice primary election, the top four vote getters will be on the ballot in November. There's also a special election Sarah Palin among the candidates vying to fill the late congressman Don young seat. ABC News has learned the FBI has interviewed former White House counsel pat cipollone and former deputy council pat philbin regarding the document stored at mister Trump's home in Florida. President Biden signed the inflation reduction act, which includes money for climate change, healthcare, and tax reform. This is going to raise taxes on the wealthiest U.S. corporations, 15% minimal minimum corporate tax on them and individuals making over $400,000 a year, but some critics say if you start taxing big corporations who employ people, that might cause them to hold back in other areas, so some critics are saying this is a bit of an overreach by the government. "Estimate. It's 1110 Campaign 2022 on WTO and it's another primary election Tuesday with some well-known politicians on the ballot in a couple of states. In Wyoming, Republican Liz Cheney is battling a candidate endorsed by former president Trump, and polls show support for the congresswoman has collapsed, since she voted for impeachment following the January 6th attack. Joining us live now as we go a bit deeper is CBS chief election and campaign correspondent Robert Costa. Congresswoman Cheney, Robert is hoping that many Wyoming Democrats today will be switching parties for the primary to vote for her. Do we know, is that happening and could it possibly make up the large gap in the polls? I'm here in Jackson Wyoming, which is one of the more blue spots in a very red state. And it's evident that some Democrats are switching parties to vote for Cheney in today's Republican House primary. But it might not be enough. This is still very much Trump country out here in Wyoming. And you can change your party registration on election day in Wyoming, but the polls show Harriet Hagan, the Trump endorsed challenger about 30 points ahead. What's the mood there in Wyoming? We know that the congresswoman Cheney has been holding invite only versus public campaign events. Tell us what's going on. She has not been holding public events in recent days because of her team's concern about her security. She now has a full-time security because of her role as vice chair of the House January 6th committee. It's interesting being out here on the ground. It's such a beautiful part of the country, but the political tensions are very real. This is a place that in a deep way really still supports former president Trump is skeptical of the January 6th committee. And they don't really want to hear many voters I've spoken with congresswoman Cheney's sharp message about the former president and how she believes he is a threat to American democracy. Let's move to Alaska. What are the polls saying about Sarah Palin's comeback effort? She's going for the state's lone House seat, which is open for the first time and nearly 50 years and a special election today. Historically intriguing race to have a former vice presidential nominee from 2008 years later more than a decade later run for a special House election and she's a FrontRunner for the seat that was vacated by the late congressman a Republican Don young. Palin has been active though a national politics since she left the gubernatorial position in Alaska. She was close to the Tea Party, now close to former president Trump. So though this is her first run since 2008, she's by no means a stranger to people in Alaska or around the country. All right, Robert, great to have you as always. Thanks

Marcus thompson of the athletic on his instant reaction game for the series now tied at two apiece and why the suns could have missed their chance at a tile plus my buddy john middlekauff former. Nfl scout. Why john gruden's future with the raiders isn't very bright and might not last long so my daughter about six months ago said dad. I don't have a lot of time off this summer. I'm taking a summer class that it's my last semester at college and she had some stuff planned she said. Can we find three or four days to go to a place. I always wanted to go to and i said sure. Olivia or you wanna go. She goes jackson and jackson's my son. He's fifteen twenty and They said jackson hole wyoming. It's a ski town Very nice beautiful state Sparsely populated a biggest town near jackson hole. I owning his jackson wyoming. And it's tiny kind of a cowboy town fun though so we booked a flight and we have an amazing time by the way. If you ever go to jackson hole wyoming i strongly encourage you stay in teton village you could stay jackson. That's awesome. Teton village is picturesque and hotel. I stayed at had an astronomer. The only astronomer in this hotel chains business. That was as much fun as ever had with my kids. His name was ryan hennessy. Look him up. Astronomer in jackson hole wyoming we go up the mountain at ten o'clock at night and for the next hour and a half till eleven forty five. He his knowledge his telescope which was super deluxe It was one of the great experiences i've ever had with my kids. Utterly fascinating so we did the other stuff the horse riding and the you know the bike riding in the hikes and the tram up the mountain all that fun stuff. Great food great fun. So then we're gonna leave so it is sunday and i'm gonna leave. Get back just in time to watch the nba finals game. Three in which. I like the bucks to win trailing oh to go back home. Get the whistle when the game which they did so the flight's supposed to leave it to which is in wyoming one o'clock los angeles time all right the laden our who cares no big deal and it's the latest second hour all right. No big deal. I am not an elitist. So then a boorda's but two hours fifty minutes. They bored us We do find out that the air conditioning is broke. That's fine no big deal and after being on the plane about twenty minutes. The captain says well. I was being optimistic. You're gonna have to d board deplane so there's some groans not from me mr guy. I'm like whatever look at my kids. That's life first time we get off the plane. We wait another hour but the crew. It's a small plane and you know little inside information on the aviation industry when you get cross country flights. You know boston l. A. new york to la. You know seattle miami you get the experienced crew you know. They don't do the commuter flights the hour flights they don't do those see. You have a very young crew very young pilots. That's fine again. I am a man of the people but the young crew as we deplane. And it's hot now. It's ninety degrees forgets to close the windows as they try to fix the problem so after about an hour waiting they get us back on the plane and it's a sauna. The plane is at least ninety. Five degrees probably a hundred a woman next to me. I believe past out. So we're on the plane for about a half hour knocking at name. The airline not here at ruin anybody's life or employment so people literally are just the amaker masks right. It's ninety degrees the the the air conditioning's out the plane is an oven so people are walking up like everybody sweating. I'm not a huge sweater. I'm sopping wet so they deplane it again now. this gets audible groans. Everybody's a little feisty. Now remember this. Is jackson hole wyoming. Very nice town not a holiday weekend. That was last weekend but nonetheless. Small town at it is packed as you know around the country if you've traveled all this summer airlines rental cars hotels restaurants are absolutely packed at least out west so as they deplane us for the second time. We have to wait for our luggage to get off the plane. Were the last ones in the airport for some reason or bag. Just don't know got stuck broken into mishandled. Who the hell knows. I look at my kids. And i'm As we wait for our bag get on the phone and start looking at hotels. I don't know if this town has one now. We stayed in teton village. I called our hotel. I talked to a person that hotel i said. Can you check in the teton village. They said there's not a single room so all of the kids were all looking at hotels a through d daughter d through l. son m. through z. Me finally w the wyoming in we find a room now. I'm in a rural airport. And i have to get to the hotel and as not a lot of uber. Drivers in jackson wyoming. I get incredibly lucky away. Word potentially drunk sedan pulls up. And i walk up to him and i say Can you get us to jackson. He says i can. But there's somebody else here. I'm picking up and i think a brother so that person disappeared so after about a ten minute search. That person disappeared my kids and i get on into this mini van with an attitude. We get to jackson to our hotel. Fine hotel the wyoming in very nice not bothered at all. They have nowhere to eat. Everything's book would go across the street to the sidewinder everything booked. Everything's hour and a half two hour. Wait it's hot. We'd been in an airport for five hours deployed twice soaking wet. So we call an uber driver. We got lucky. Young man picks us up. We go to four different restaurants. They're all in town jammed. I give the uber driver. Twenty and say will you go through the drive through at mcdonalds. He's absolutely. I will didn't want food. Gave him a twenty so we sat in line but twelve cars maybe fifteen. This is nine o'clock at night. Mickey d's ago spicy chicken sandwich. Boom may the weekend we go back to the hotel. Great night's sleep great. People were all drained wet gross. The flight was canceled but rescheduled for nine in the morning. Get up uber airport. All good we get on the flight. It's late not delayed. It's late appears to be a problem but the crew were just gonna take off. We get in the air knocking name the airline. Everything's fine so at this point we got about thirty to forty five minutes left on the flight. Back to la. I go to the bathroom. There's only one in the back of the plane this airline it's not delta and it's not the kind of airline that appears to despite a government bailout have a lot of money..

Big heads to my right. Well, actually, half the man he used to be. It is just to my right J C to my immediate right. My father co owner Phil Yeah, It's just my immediate left. Guys. We're gonna jump right to the phones because I know a couple people been waiting. Let's jump to J. R J r. You're always on target. How are you, sir? I'm very well loved the show. I'm sorry. Can you hear me? Yes, sir. Sorry. Happy birthday, Eric. Thank you. And, of course, So here's my question. I worked out in Jackson, Wyoming, approximately four months out of the year. Every year and I loved I loved the fish. I'm not really a big hunter. But I love to shoot and always carry a side arm, but not for two legged animals, but for four And all the guys that live out their carry 45 seventies whenever they go, l cunning or any kind of hunting, not for the shooting of the animal, but for bears. And I'm curious what you think about that caliber and that firearm. Oh, I love the 45 70. Yeah, I have several of those. It's a great cartridge. It's a great brush buster. As they call it, the heavy slug going it. It is great. Uh, And it's also too right. I mean, and if it's an old dad, it came out in the 18. It was adopted in the 18 70 early 18 seventies. Um, actually shoot one from 18 76 that I have, and it's it's still It's one who cartridge. They have the modern versions of them. You can get a 4 50 bold action of, um brush buster that they have a savage has one they have. It's a great cartridge. So if you have 45 70 Easy to reload low pressure, but really, it's just one of my favorites. I mean, they shot buffalo with it. They can easily bring down a bear. So Cartridge. It's good guy in Alaska that have those lever action is kind of the way to go. But But you could get a bold action, not the 45 17 in the 45 caliber. That's actually a little more powerful. Even so, depending on which way you want to go, But I'd go with it. Great. Thanks for thanks for giving us a call Jr and were jealous of the out there in Wyoming, Mabel come out there and visit Okay, CNN. He offered that. Let's go to the second caller. You're on with on target. How are you, sir? Well, hello, Eric. This is Mom. I was calling to wish you a happy birthday. Since I haven't spoken to you yet today because I knew you were busy with snow crept, So just have a happy birthday and unlucky in love tomorrow. That's your mother. Mother, Uh, her mother is also one of our silent partners here to store and she does. She does a lot of things with the retired police officers and that usually remarkable person. I hope that you and Amy kind of remember Mother's Day, but tomorrow, all right, thanks to my mama. Uh, alright. Jeff called another caller. Now. Okay. Uh, I'm gonna take this opportunity, though. The throw out a tribute question real quick because it's Segways right into what we were talking about. What is the extreme range of a bullet fired from a three? Oh, eight. The extreme, like the long the distance. What is the resistance in the stream? Extreme distance, like if you shot it, and nothing stops it and they go into a drop until it drops. Okay, that don't look it up on people always give you a chance to know. Think about that We come back to the answer mile and a half. All right. You're not telling you Just leave it. Yeah. 2.8 miles and often times three miles. Really? Yes, depending on the wind. Yeah. Wow, That's a different. Yeah, It's good. Yeah, All right. All right, so, guys, So let's you know what? Let's do the kind of the week because I'm dying to do it. This is it. This is it. You knew I had to hand to your incredible I think I can So the gun of the week. This kind of be kind of abbreviate. You know, I've always been a fan of Caltech. They they've been there so innovative on day have been since I've been telling firearms out of my basement. I mean, they really were company that I teamed up with early on and I love their innovation from you know, the PMR 30 different to Magnum pistol to the Caltech case. G shotguns to one of my favorites. Well, years ago, they came out. With the Caltech sub two k sub 2000. It was a small, almost survivalist type rifle that folded in half 16.2 inches. My mind that I have at home to tell you how old it is. It doesn't take the modern Glock made or the modern Smith and Wesson MP mags MIND Takes The Smith and Wesson 59. Oh, six months. Oh, right that it's a sin to shit is eventually but they are. They're great. They come in nine and 40 well. Not to be a nun. You know not to be outdone, they came out with the new model, and it is called the Caltech sub to K C Cube. Oh, then what This is is a sub 2009 millimeter. Takes the Glock mags at this And as We're sitting here in this inner took early suppressed the entire barrel is a suppressor. Its inner what into clearly suppressed? Yes, Integral. We had a hold on the dresser s so as you can imagine, it's supposed to be. They claim it is Hollywood Quiet. Really with subsonic nine millimeter is still great Backpack gun and said that they did with this one. And then if you're on Facebook watching here, um You can see it Still Ford and half one of the problems or one of the things they've always talked about is when you fold it in half the time the optic will get in the way of the being folded. Or now with this, they built in a mechanism that allows you and this one's still another bucks. Here's just a little bit tough. Good. It allows you to turn it. Heard it. 90 degrees. Yep. And take your optic off to the side, and it's still folds into the I don't know if the suppressor of any different that better World Ministry 16.2 was their estate. But look at that. I mean, that is in that need now in a briefcase, one of the things they said, and JC rocks will run out of time..

"And then a few months later, right as she was about to begin finals in her first semester of college, she passed out several times in a row. And ended up in the hospital. Luckily with an electro physiologist who noticed that she had long Q T syndrome, so about a year and a half after my younger sister was diagnosed with long Q T syndrome. I passed out in a parking lot one day in Jackson, Wyoming, and that's when I woke up, knowing that that's probably what I had, right and you know, after your sister's condition became clear, and she had one of these implanted Your parents kept saying to you. Look, you got to go get you go to get to the hospital. You've got to get you on being being the post College student as we all might have been at one time You said Yeah. Yeah, I'll get to it, and you never did. Until you had this dreadful episode. Yeah, And they told you what? When you went to the hospital Well in the E R. I told the doctor right away that he should check my Q T interval because some part of me knew, And I think it's fair to say that part of why I never made it in to get an E. K g. Which is the test that you can often tell whether or not someone has a long Q T interval on I had never made it to the hospital to get an E k g. I think because some part of me knew that I had it and or that If anyone in the family had it, it would be me. And for me to get diagnosed with long Q T syndrome would mean the end of the life that I was living at the time. I was 24 years old. I lived in Jackson, Wyoming. I worked as a ski instructor and a climbing teacher and hiking guide, and I was quite invested in Not necessarily knowing if I had this heart condition because it was going to make my life as I had known it really impossible. So the day I showed up in the hospital something in me Already knew. But the e R doctor took the E K G and he came back and he said it does look like you have it. So you learned at the age of 20 for that. You have this this condition, right? Do I have this right? Just after my 24th birthday, right? And you know you live in Jackson, Wyoming, and you love the outdoors, and you know your life is going to change. There's another way in which you were ill suited. For this kind of thing, Which is that? You know, this is going to be an expensive medical condition, you know, and that that didn't exactly fit with your income and insurance status, right? No. The first thing I thought when I passed out and my partner came to pick me up, he wanted to take me to the hospital, and I told him you can't take me to the hospital. I don't have insurance and I'll never be able to get insurance again. At the time, it was legal to deny care to people who had preexisting conditions. And so my first thought, Wass. I need to pretend this didn't happen. Go find a way to get insurance. And then goes it tucked her about this, which was just insane. Sequence of events after you potentially go into cardiac arrest in a parking lot. I had been working all of these jobs that didn't pay very well. Part of why I did. That was because I wanted to be a writer. And if I worked outdoor jobs during The summer and winter than I could take spring and fall to really work on my craft. But what that meant was that I was living In a very shaky um, a very shaky financial situation where buying some of the very poor insurance plans that were available. Was just too expensive and didn't seem worth it because I was so young and so healthy. Let me reintroduce you were going to take a break. Here We're speaking with Katherine Standard for him. Memoir is called lightning flowers. We will continue our conversation. In just a moment. This is fresh air as a candidate, Joe Biden trying to walk the middle road on how to best reform policing. How.

Who Were the Wild West's 'Petticoat Rulers'?

"The United States continues to lag in terms of the representation of women in government. As of June twenty twenty, we ranked eighty first out of one hundred ninety three countries. One perhaps unlikely town became known for unprecedented progressiveness a century ago, Jackson! Wyoming In May of nineteen twenty, yes, three months before the nineteenth amendment nationally recognized women's right to even vote an all female nicknamed the petticoat rulers established order in this wild. West, town. Wyoming was ahead of its time. In terms of women's suffrage back in eighteen, sixty nine, it had been the first territory or state in the union to pass a law. Guaranteeing women the right to vote. We spoke by email with Morgan Jawan. Executive Director of the Jackson Hole Historical Society and museum. She said this may be a bit dramatic, but I often say that Jackson could very easily faded into landscape in the early twentieth century. If not for these women, this was a rugged place, incredibly difficult to settle while Jackson had a strong community where everyone helped each other out, there was very little emphasis on government and civic responsibility. It may be tough to believe that an all female government could have ruled a small town in twentieth century. America, when sexism still remains a major barrier in modern politics, but on May Eleventh Nineteen, twenty, Jackson elected Grace Miller as mayor and rose crabtree made Loney Festina height and Genevieve van flack as council members, the five women claimed victory over an all male roster, and crabtree even beat out her husband Henry for the position. This landmark win was no accident, either the election drew the most voters. The town had seen at that point, and in many cases, the women dominated their male opponents spy margin of two to one. While towns in Kansas and Utah had already elected all-female town councils in eighteen, Eighty, eight and nineteen twelve respectively, this election was a major turning point Yellen said the all Women Town Council of Nineteen twenty stepped up and shaped the town into the place. We know in love today. They graded the streets. They expanded electrical service and installed streetlamps. They established the first town cemetery and built the town's budget. Be Able to continue serving community members. According to a nineteen twenty two article from the Delineate or magazine, there was only two hundred dollars in town coffers when the women took office due to uncollected fines and taxes. As the article states. went out personally and collected every Senate due to the town from those who ignored the notices. Before the end of a fortnight, there was two thousand dollars in the treasury. Things didn't necessarily all start out with a Flash Bang. Though Yellen said a funny story I'd always heard all women town council had formalized the square, and until recently I assumed that meant creating the park like square. We see today, but what it actually meant was that these councilman as they called themselves and official documents simply prohibited the grazing of cattle on the town square. You have to start somewhere. As for what inspired the women to effect lasting change. Yellen says their methods and motives were rather simple. She quoted mayor. Grace Miller from an interview in Nineteen, twenty two. We simply tried to work together. We put into practice the same thrifty principles. We exercise our own homes. We wanted to clean well-kept progressive town in which to raise our families. What is good government but a breathing space for good citizenship? While so-called petty coat rulers successfully establish a lasting legacy y'all win cautions that celebrating their history simply isn't enough. She said the story of the All Women Town Council is incredible and certainly something to celebrate and be proud of for the town Jackson Hole has many stories of powerful women, and generally our history is one of inclusivity, adaptability and ingenuity. Everyone had to pull their weight and be open, minded in order to survive. However it still important to look at the big picture and use history as something to learn from, and not just celebrate Jackson did not see another woman in an elected position until the nineteen eighties, the all woman town council was necessary and successful, but unfortunately did not create a new normal, and Jackson was not immune to the times, but it is exciting and encouraging to see more diversity in our local government, including women in all levels elected positions. The women of nineteen twenties still serve encouraging role. Role models for anyone in Wyoming, a visit to the Jackson hole historical. High Avalanche Danger Out West Affects Transportation And Ski Areas

"To another story now. It's been a chaotic couple of weeks in the rocky mountains where large avalanches have closed highways ski resorts a single storm near Salt Lake City. It triggered a record forty eight slides as NPR's Kirk siegler reports. The increased avalanche risk comes at a time when more and more people are hitting the slopes in the high country. God probably Craggy Teton Mountains of North West Wyoming steep and deep Jackson hole is as a magnet for extreme skiers right. They're buddies goading them on on Matt Beauregard. And Rick lawler drop a fifteen foot cliff in this glade. Area called the tower three shits as just a melody honestly. You were just rep around rounded bounce. Skiing inbounds inside. The patrolled boundaries of the ski resort generally thought to be safer when it comes to avalanches. That's because all season skiers. I've been packing this snow down and stabilising it. But Matt Beauregard knows that's no guarantee we've actually triggered small slides on this exact face. They may duck a rope and ski ski out of bounds into the back country. But even here at the resort. They're wearing avalanche transceivers and safety gear. Just in case education's probably the most important thing. Rick here's wearing an air bag for added protection so in the case that he is stuck inside an avalanche you'll be able to pull this cord and hopefully float to the surface inbounds or in the back country. Avalanche danger is high across the mountain west. An unusually snowy early season followed by drought than dry powder. Storms then a punch of heavy wet snow last weekend in Utah. Today's storm dumped six and a half feet in Little Cottonwood Canyon home to the snowbird and Alta resorts awards and it ended up closing little cottonwood for fifty four hours and forty eight. Avalanches were reported one of those hit. The Road Mickey Champion is a forecaster here at the Utah Avalanche Center. She recorded wind speeds up to a hundred miles an hour on Ridge tops that further destabilize the already volatile snowpack in the Wasatch satch mountains. And then you put a big wrong heavy load or a wind load on top of that it just kind of upside down. It's like a pyramid when you take out the Baser Django when you remove one of the pieces says there were no fatalities reported in Utah. But last month skiers were buried and killed in avalanches within patrolled terrain at resorts in California and Idaho. Oh all of this is putting the round. The clock work. People tasked with keeping these mountains safe under the microscope Jackson Hole. Ski Patrol Director Drew Neilan stepping into his bindings above. You can't see it in the fog now. But there's a big cirque above us here and that's Casper Bowl. All and all that terrain is avalanche terrain every morning at dawn before the tram and the Gondolas Starts Spinning Army of Nielsen's patrol or detonating explosives lives to intentionally trigger slides. Now so skiers don't later and some of these can even be detonated remotely thanks to new robot like trolleys that reach even more dangerous surest remote places. Obviously we worry about avalanches coming down into the heavily congested areas. So that's one of our biggest concerns to get that work done early. Another big concern is simply that more. People are venturing out further into areas. They normally wouldn't have thanks to improved equipment. I think people assume that we're able that. We have the ability to completely eliminate the risk of avalanches within the scary. And that's just not the case but avalanche forecasters say along with the increased risk. It comes a new cachet becoming cool to say. You've taken avalanche courses and Dir as prepared as you can be Kirk Siegler N._p._R.. News Jackson Wyoming.

The Last of Us Part II: Hands-On Impressions

"The mood a little bit about what the event that was like and which which dilapidated coffee shop you got to pretend you're and we're brought to the Hollywood modern warehouse of big big open space with like twelve. TV's in it and so we were brought in we had a brief presentation about the game with some helpful gameplay tips from game wicky expert Neil Druckman and he gives some advice on what we're about to play and then we sat down a few stands you may have seen photos online on my twitter other people's who pretended they had just like a rundown shack over here or restaurants coffee over there nothing that extravagant it was actually pretty low key as an event but they had a few of those stands and then just just a bunch of TV's and they said sit down play the last of us part two and what we played was two levels. I think both are pretty early in the game. They didn't tell US exactly specifics expert. They were not the intro to the game. They were called patrol and then there was a level called suburbs patrol was set in Jackson. Wyoming where Elliott and jeweler living post host last of US one they're living there. The this sequence took place immediately after the three twenty eighteen trailer where we I saw Elliot at the dance with DNA played by Shannon Woodward and the two of them kiss dance and then we see a next day which is basically a patrol day in their life of how they live at this encampment the second part was suburbs which was set in Seattle and Seattle has basically been turned into this militant overrun state by group WWL F. and basically basically if you're not a member of the WF or part of their regime the people that they look over the don't want you in Seattle and they will either take you prisoner or kill you as a result and Elliot's there to rescue some friend who shouldn't be there and that leads to a lot of terrible terrible interactions with terrible scavengers. Now you have an idea of before these are set sort of in the story following the trailer but you have a sense of her. They are sort of in the structure of the game. I think they were both act. One for sure I would say day so there will be some story spoilers throughout talk about I'll try to keep it as light as possible but the second chapter chapter the suburbs bit definitely split apart. They did not happen. Sequentially suburbs ended with that moment withdrawal at the end of the new release date trailer where he's there and keeps Sir safe from scavengers. Why what do you think I'd let you do this alone. That's how that demo ended and I think that's a hell of an act one to me. That felt like a great act one. Here's the end of the story okay. We're GONNA get into something totally different now because to me that implies. Joe Is Not really a big presence in the first third of the game at least you and I love how the tables will tend possibly in the second act. Where Joel is your companion. Yeah we still have this obviously the lingering bombshell from the end of the first game and does that feel like there's a mossy there does that feel like that will get addressed. It definitely does and I got to speak to kneel after as well in the way he described it was like in this game their relationship Asian chip is strained. This'll love each other but the events of the first game definitely impacted them and you know the end of the last US leave some ru open to interpretation of how Elliot took what happened and how much he actually knows. I think Elliot's a smart enough person to know what transpired but he would have figured it out by Nick and especially by now I think she knows it's tough to we'll. We'll try our best to not score that because it is a playstation plus game yes yeah I mean presumably if you're watching stuff about the last part to you played the last of us part one save on suffice to say the ending of the loss of original was very it lift Joel in a very morally gray area. Yes it it is I would say one of the best video I think yeah sure if and and for me that s probably Super Mario Brothers to where it's it's very Ming yeah which is very special and Conquers Bedford yes but yeah this actually has a lot of parallels with Congress Bedford Day but we'll get to that I once oh bed so yeah. It very much felt like these two chapters were in a pretty early on in the game. The first patrol level very much felt like here's how some of the new mechanics work. Here's the basics of combat so that that I would say is probably within the first hour or two after whatever the intro is and then patrols probably a little bit later on from there but Neil and then some of the other team members like they're all. They were very much reiterating this event. What you're seeing is a very small slice of this game like they were. They've been saying this is the the biggest game naughty dog has ever done in terms of scope on a gameplay complexity level on a world level on a story level and so which I'm a little I don't want to say like skeptical about I am a little apprehensive about because I did feel like on charter for awhile it had a ton of excellent stuff did have a little bit of bloat and oversight. Its welcome a little bit. I did appreciate that it allowed you in the story to sort of stop and smell the roses here and there but that game felt needlessly padded at times with a lot of puzzles stuff but that said this has always been a more story driven you know output from that studio so I do have faith that something cool pool come from all that I mean the my favorite seasons of TV. Shows are eight to ten hours. You know I would say that my least favorite shows are the ones that are twenty four hours a season and so so I do hope that there there is a a narrative justification for this being that long I know Gamers do ten a complaint longer with better because because it is a better value for sixty bucks but at the end of the day I do. I want them to have a very strong narrative driven reason to be here for the song that the tone of the last most of us is definitely more suited to a longer game. He does have those quiet moments. It's a sort of stealth game which encourages you to sort of like it's it's kind of it's brooding in its in its totally only much different from uncharted. which is you don't see many like popcorn action movies that are four hours long whereas dramatic prestige television goes on for you know he's take time yeah and the game play perspective? Utah show that Max like we were just chatting before the loss of us is very much it has the beating heart of us have a horror which means that you know instead of plowing through wave away the enemies like you doin'. China full which did grow and by the end like theoretically theoretically every encounter will be very considered like each combat encounter I hadn't we can get into combat and the second is very like brutal and I had to consider every every single opponent that I could run into but on the in terms of game length side. I'm definitely cautiously optimistic because right now we can only go on the eighth of what we've been told but talking to neil he very much like the thing that's the team about. The last of us is it's tension and that that never lets up you do have those quiet moments here and there but like as an overarching story it is constantly propelling you forward and he said that was the goal with this game like this is not a game where there patting out with like here's twenty fund side missions right now like he was like this is a ten game all the way through and we're keeping thing that tone in that pace in the sequel just happens to be larger because of the story necessitated that right it's like. Dina's missing and she's got to go collect ten flowers uh-huh so sorry guys just going to go through this and even said that is an example. He's like there's nothing worse than a game where you're like. Hey I need to save my best friend around but first let me find these five potions for you to go out on patrol look for survivors but also collect one hundred crickets because I want to impress a girl I mean me and Horizon Listen. I was like there's a lot to do but I should get the coffee mugs because I'm a sucker for for stuff like that. the environment speaking of which they feel like there was a little more room to swim around amount or not necessarily swim around 'cause. I couldn't swim in the first game and I saw no swimming swimming swimming. TVD I forgot to ask Neil about swimming. I've said this before she has nothing to do you and she has no school should lynn to swim swim sort it out yet environmentally. It's the approach that they're taking is that like white linear thing that everyone likes to say and as such a marketing term but essentially like it is a game that has forward momentum both on the story and your progression of the world but you'll get to areas that are larger and so kind of like you know like got a tomb raider which I was thinking that we don't actually have a a term for that. You just said why why they call it in the depth side because they hate this thing dibs when you talk to. Dave's because everyone's always angling for is it open well and they they like no. It's not open world but then they have nothing thing to kind of replace it with the finish finish. I think widely is probably I mean. I hate it but it's probably the best description we've got. I understand it. The the structure of the first last of us is very much rooted in last Chen like it. We got this you know. ps four in this generation has brought a ton of open world is almost standard and that that level of sort of of openness player freedom and we saw this with with uncharted forward. There's the big hold like deep area and you know big sprawling areas to explore but it's still a linear story. We almost have to rewind to be like how to talk about how it's how it's structured can talk about that a little bit yes so at least in the portions that I saw it was very much like a as you progressed through that level there are certain points where it closes off the back part of that level progressing through a story beat in the world and and so if you missed you know a couple of pieces of ammo back there or some medication to help like up your skills it's gone
