"I was not a leftist but that softened somewhat. When i started working welsh politics only to heart and again following the brexit referendum. I was totally guilty of the leftist. Pitfall of anyone who disagrees especially toys must be evil but i thankfully seen the light. Many people in the centre-left have helped me see the error of my ways. And i'm very glad to find myself agreeing with plenty of the wise opinions. That you and jackie share by the podcast. More so with jackie. If i'm honest brackets apologies. I felt the need to get in touch and thank you now. Because i stopped my grandmother over the holidays and i was devastated because we were very close. I moved to france in two thousand seventeen but in a strange way the first lock down in wales was a good thing in the i was visiting when it was announced into short visit turned into a four-month. Stay with my dear. Mom goo grandma in welsh while i waited for a return flight restrictions. This time round in france england and wales mean that. I'm unable to travel over funeral. Which hurts a great deal. It makes me feel incredibly guilty. This brings me back to why. I'm thanking you now. I've started listening to old episodes. So that i can catch up on all the i've missed and the two of you have made this period of easiest. I thank you both very much. I was also very pleasantly surprised to learn that you are. You're efficient fan. As i am to be by any chance liam as you both discussed football frequently which i sometimes have to skip further. Apologies killer gate. I wonder if i could squeeze eurovision question the e b. You will soon have to decide how the two thousand and twenty one contest would ahead and for the moment. It seems likely that there will be no audience and worst case scenario. Each country's performance will be prerecorded and broadcast more like a series of live music videos with that in mind. Is it better to have the compromise contest or cancel it altogether as twenty twenty. I'm well. Thanks for the kind words. But i would say on eurovision definitely go ahead with it in whatever form. I didn't see why they had to cancel in twenty twenty. They could have done played the videos. All i still have the scoring. i think most people actually watch for the scoring rather than the music I'm massively out of touch with a lot of my friends and colleagues and certainly in. I don't like eurovision there. I've said it should probably be canceled for the honestly these straits. Sometimes it just get it do they. Well anyway somebody appreciates me. I'm reading this not because it's really a question. But just you'll see why. "I am one of those still in the jungle. Still fighting that battle. But i think probably is about this for you. Jackie smith zone. War is over. I don't see that there's any debate about this. If they don't support this deal that that to me would be the most ridiculous decision that they could ever have kissed armor. I would call a shadow meeting this week and say right. The position is going to be that. We're going to support this deal. Anybody object to that and wants to leave. Now there's the door slam it behind you. I mean that's not his style. But i think that's going to be the effect of where he's going to wind up. You can see the argument. Can't you see no. But can't you see the the argument that is the government needs to own the the government if you believe that brexit is a bad thing and the even with a deal about things are going to happen. Can you see the logic of the argument that says we've got to let the tories own that not really because the decision has been made that nobody believes that we cannot go back on the decision. So you you are fighting the last war as you've already said and i cannot see the logic of that is it better for to have a deal not a deal. Clearly it is therefore you vote for the deal. You might not like all aspects of it. I'm sure there'd be lots of tory. Npr date like all aspects of it. But it is ridiculous to think given the labor party lost so many votes in in marginal seats over this issue in twenty nine that to now effectively be portrayed as trying to block breath for the second part of brexit again. I just think it would be madness. I'm not necessarily just just to put a sort of another position. of course there is. There is an abstention position on. This isn't there i'm not. I don't think it really isn't not almost not something of this magnitude if you're if you're a serious political leader You're not backbench. Mp you're not voting on your conscience you all the aspirant prime minister you're aspirant party of government. You cannot abstain on something as important as this And you you know that i saw well..

Got village groombridge next door while about fifty miles away from where i'm not my am now. Well one pub in the village has close on december. The second and the other one can stay open now. I know there will always be that when were borders. But it is a bit incongruous that you have a a huge area the size of kent all in one tier mainly because one small part of it. The north kent coast medway towns. They they all the areas of the highest infection in the whole country and yet nobody really from this area goes there. It's not it's just not not an area. There isn't a lot of sort of intermixing it's really. It's really too much into mixing in some of them townhouses but that's another thing too. Gay comedy trees too often on the show. I can tell you. I used to work with lots of people from the ship. E yeah worked on a cross-channel ferry that went for ns. Jackie smith the triangle is that it was it was. "It's such an important time to capitalize very much so we have a question over here that question all right. Let's go. Let's hear it high over here. I'm jackie smith college coach and one of the friends of the fans here that got an opportunity to be here so i'm really excited and thank you for having this branching off what you just said. I'm curious because i'm surrounded by student athletes. Every day that are super invested in basketball not skilled enough to play in this league. You wanna stay in involved in the game in some in some aspect similar to your background whether it be business marketing whatever it may be. Are there initiatives already in place that i can promote that young student athletes are graduating college that are looking for some experience can get into or is there. Any initiatives in the works works to help promote <hes> that young players can get into. I think it's a great question. You know one of the reasons i took this job is i want to make an impact on women and girls more broadly in the world and i think <hes> it's proven all the statistics show that women and girls who play sports or more successful in in business in life and because they have confidence and in this male dominated world that i certainly lived in hopefully it's changing you know having confidence and being having a strong voice and being confident that you can stand up because you played competitively or not even competitively is so important so <hes>. I think you know there's some things things with u._s._a. Basketball that we're thinking of especially to grow the game and make sure we're not losing players to volleyball and other sports because that athlete is who we usually you know no <hes> and there's a big dropout rate for girls when they're in their teen years i know like my daughter played till sophomore year in high school and then dropped out of basketball went and played lacrosse and that's a popular sport too so i think there's a variety of things we can think about and would love to work with you. If you wanna give me your card at the end and <hes> think think about ways to <hes> you know make sure that these young women still stay and it doesn't even have to be with the w._n._b._a. Or you know with basketball but still stay in sports because i think sports builds confidence and and leadership is built off of confidence quite frankly and i know i was a huge beneficiary of title nine fine and and ultimately captaining my senior year and i actually played lacrosse in college too when you could play two sports basketball and lacrosse and and i was huge beneficiary so paying it forward from this perspective for the players to <hes> the china one one of their other reasons i took the job is to help them think about what they do. Post basketball now i know today there are one hundred percent focused on basketball and they should be but you know ultimately when they retire..

It'd be hard to pair this down. I this day in sports history. Paulie Wittingham for me in nineteen fifty one the NFL passed a rule that said the tackle guard and center were not eligible to catch a forward pass. What a buzzkill that must've been like those tackles guards and Senate like, you know, we're we're raking these passes in nineteen fifty eight Willey made his NFL debut with debut with the Boston Bruins first African American player in the NHL, and he went into the hall of fame too. I know that Vick was a Cowboys fan. Telling moved here. Jackie Smith's dropped touchdown pass in Super Bowl. Eight. The scene was Super Bowl. I'm sorry. Simple thirteen the scene was Super Bowl thirteen the Dallas Cowboys trailed the Pittsburgh Steelers. Twenty one fourteen in the third quarter on third down calbos quarterback spotted revert reverse tight end. Jackie Smith wide open in the end zone for what should have been an easy ten yard touchdown pass. But Smith dropped the pass which he didn't write in the hands. And the Cowboys were forced to settle for a field goal which cut the deficit to four and the Cowboys lost the game by four points. My my my buddy Joe who I've talked about many times my my late pal. Joe we've talked about many times on the show. He's the guy. Hey, listen. He used to always say like anytime, we watched football together when a bunch of us would get together and watch watch a game on Sunday or something anytime. Somebody would miss a pass Joe would say this, Dan, Joe would say this anytime somebody missed a pass in even if it was even if it wasn't an easy pass like this past that we're talking about here at hit him right in the hands. And you know, there's no excuse, but Joe used to always say is even if a guy dives for it and it hits his hands at some point. Joe would always say, hey, listen, if you can touch it you can catch it. He said it every time somebody dropped the past every time. Even if like, I said, even if it wasn't an easy. Hey, if you can touch it you could catch it. I remember we were watching the game one time. I was Scott was there. There was Joe, you know, the whole group of us were sitting on the were the game. Scott says it's got okay. My friend, Scott, okay? Says. I mean, I can't stay. He goes. I can't stand handsome quarterbacks. I just can't stand up. They make me nuts. And so they were bringing a backup. I can't remember what game it was. But they were bringing the they knocked out the the starting quarterback. So they're bringing in another quarterback. It was a bear game. It was bears playing somebody else. I don't remember what the bears knocked knocked out there. They're starting quarterback like. And so they're bringing the backup quarterback. And Scott had made this statement many times, you know, like, I can't stand good-looking can't stand. Good looking. Quarterbacks. I can't stand handsome quarterbacks. They make be crazy. So when they're bringing it into the other team is bringing in the quarterback, Joe goes, oh, man. You're gonna hate this frigging guy. He's gorgeous. And we still say that stuff to like, you know, like like during during games. I don't I don't watch a lot of football with my friends anymore. But during games like this'll get texted to our inner circle. Like if someone drops a pass if you can touch it you can catch it we tax to each other. You know, or if it good for good-looking quarterback is playing you're gonna hate this guy. He's frigging gorgeous. Only Joe didn't say friggin. Oh, you're gonna hate this guy. He's frigging gorgeous. Man. So many great Joe stories, man. Still. I mean, the, you know, the the celebrity encounters are still the best ones. They all Jorgensen Oliver Stone.
