Going From Homeless To Hired

"Williams. Last. You've. Had Fallen on hard times and was now living in her car and she would park it. Outside of a kroger back in the parking lot far back in the parking lot in our state here of Tennessee this is a national story now in people magazine. This is her quote. She said I would lean my seat all the way back. So no one would see me because you know I knew I wasn't supposed to be there. But she eventually cross paths with the Kroger hiring manager a lady by the name Jackie Vandal who gave her a heads up about an upcoming, job? Fair. After Williams was repeatedly asking her if the store was hiring. So there's the first she is on really Really thin ice in that she's sleeping in the parking lot and if they figure out that she sleeping in the parking lot, they're going to kick around parking lot. So she's Kinda got that risk factor going on and she's on hard times big time and yet she keeps showing up she keeps going hey, are you hiring are hiring? Are you hiring at the lowest point of her life her desire even though that she's really really doubt her desire to climb out is so strong she risks getting found out so. This is the quote from Jackie Vandal. She says, you get a feel of someone sincere or if they're just trying to get a job to say they got one and then quit a month later I could tell she was very sincere. It was a gut feeling. So. vandal tells Williams to submit our application online. Williams retrieves an old laptop from car and spins out filling out the application with vandals help as soon as she submitted at Vandal hire on the spot. I love that story because the hiring manager decides to help her out. Not. Just given the job by saying you've gotta fill this thing out she sits in the car with her helps are filled this application out. and. Once she goes through the final step of hitting submit. She hires her why she wanted to see her go through the whole process. There's some wonderful wonderful teacher if you're going to help somebody. That really needs it. I really believe there's something to making them do some things. To prove to you and to them that they are willing to do what it takes and this lady Shiva Williams was and she'd been dealing with a lot of abuse physical abuse mental and. Verbal abuse. And she's been at the store. This is at the end of two, thousand and nineteen. She's been at the store the entire year of twenty twenty and has made the most of this opportunity. She saved up enough money to get her own apartment and then her workers came together to help her furnish it. Oh, my goodness that feels good. What's the, takeaway. The takeaway I think is twofold number one. If you're really down doesn't matter if you're in the situation that this fabulous lady was in. But you're just really down. Your desire to get out of that is what's going to fuel the climb. Secondly, if you come across someone who's really really down and you can see they've got a genuine desire. To climb out, you owe it to them. The SNOT, an accident you owe it to them. To reach. down. Let them, take your arms, your hands, and help him come out. They gotTA put some effort into it. Yes. But you owe it to him. So what a story listen to Williams I'd love to meet her. Because I think that is an inspiring story and also the hiring manager Jackie vandal. Love to meet her.

"Jackie crews on the cast right now I. Don't know if anyone could of told you the idea for this show. It's basically an origin story. Show like I like to find out how successful people became successful where you came from and how you got here. You are on arguably emmys every year. Arguably one of the biggest shows in the past ten years in Orange is the new black, but I imagine it wasn't an overnight thing, so if you have just a couple of minutes kind of tell us. US where you came from and how you got to blow job seminars and like my whole life, a couple of minutes all right literally I dreamed of this and I was I lived in the Dominican Republic, that's where I'm from, and you know my mom. I was like mom I think I wanted to sing and act and I was like six or seven when I was determined to do this and she's like well. Let's see what it takes you know. She's from Queens and then she's like. You got potential kid, and like she put me in classes in like after that, she's like Jackie were moving to Hollywood, so it was like fifteen years old from the Dominican Republic moved to Hollywood soft things. A little girl should never seen like I was like these these kids were already adults you know. even if you were on TV or not, just the kids in alleges feel are very grown and I was very young and I feel like. Catching Up, you know rebelling little bit against my mom who change her whole life for me. She's a doctor in the DR and became no one so I could live my dream of you know being an artist and I rebelled against her, and I moved out of my house when I was sixteen and I got into a terrible car accident. You know. And brain surgery like not supposed to be here right now. I found myself again, because like God took away everything that I've was supposedly beautiful about me. which was my long hair? You know my face was crooked. My eyes. Were you know I couldn't see right I had to smile sideways. You know a lot of health issues and I had to learn how to walk again and I didn't WanNa. Live because in Hollywood all I saw on TV were like beautiful people and definitely people that didn't look like he saw already. It was impossible mission. I wanted. Wanted to give up. The my mom is like Jackie. You're not supposed to be here right now. Literally I had a pre say. Goodbye with you. You're not supposed to be full like this, so you're going to have to work harder than you worked before. And then you know what I met. This little girl Meli in the hospital. She was ten years old in a wheelchair and I guess. The doctors spoke to her because they were like this little girl is coming in. She doesn't WanNa live anymore. Do you think you could give her the strength? To live again and talk with her, and she did and all she said me was. You're so pretty. You had brain surgery to and I'm like. Yeah, and I started bawling and I'm like. This little girl is looking up to me. Wants to walk like me wants to be like me and I'm here wanting to die because I don't have hair or like. My face is crooked can walk you know. So literally, this little girl just changed my life, and I went back to Dominica Republic got going. You know worked out and came back to you. Know La with my hospital mullet, because that let anyone touch rare, and I took headshots and I just looked different. I wasn't the same Jackie and getting representations was very hard for me. 'cause I'm Dominican and they're like. She speaks Spanish, but she doesn't look Mexican so I. Don't know where to place her this. This is very complicated. Trying to get you know representation, but I went to this person and I didn't stop until you said yes, and then I got my first role at two thousand and six on the shield, but nothing came after that and I just focused on my music, because music was always there. I love and I gave up acting actually six years before auditioned for Orange is the new black, and you know God place me. New York through. And I miss acting, and I said let me try in New York. Maybe it's a little different, and it definitely was and orange changed my life. It was like two lines that became. My lifelong dream. You're born the Dr. did you move to Queens and things, but I was raised in the Dr. so when did you go down to the DR Until I was fifteen, and your mom is Dr there. which that's just impressive in its own right. And then she picks up and moves all the way to Los Angeles so you can pursue this kinda crazy dream. was she able to pursue medicine while she came to California I'll be on its. She did she she. She took not try. She took all the US. Emily exams passed all of them. She doesn't really like me to talk about. About it, but they didn't want to accept her degree from the Dominican Republic to give her a residency, so she was heartbroken, but she still is in medicine right now she's. She's still working in the medical field, but she's she never you know. Had that dream of you know having an office because I remember the Dominican, republic by MOM works at a little clinic in at Gaba, which is like the little village and everyone loved my mother. At like I. Just remember your mom. She saved my little daughter like it was beautiful to see. People love like in a little town. Love your your mom and and. She was my hero, and not just her like I was raised by five women, which are my mom's sisters. Two of them are doctors, and that was those are the two that raised me and then everyone else was just put a little something of them inside of me so I just feel like I can handle a lot of women, so orange is the new black was perfect for me, because every every woman has a different attitude and it was just easy for me to like flow to that show because of. Of My childhood, so you guys pick up. You Fly to Los Angeles Your sixteen years old. I, assume probably auditioning and stuff, and then were you driving? GET INTO A car. What happened now? So I was yeah. I was I moved out of my house with this girl who had everything Honda civic okay. She had an apartment at bar. M apartment. It was embarrassing but I. Don't know what it's called. It was like the open apartments back in the day, but I don't know what it's called now green. And all these little fancy.

"He wanted to play in the major leagues. The most teams wouldn't allow him because of segregation. Fortunately the Brooklyn dodgers were interested in including black players. The manager of the Dodgers Branch Rickey Call Jackie, and met with him, asking if he was interested, and also whether he'd be able to be strong enough when others treated him poorly. Jackie agreed and began playing for the dodgers international team. The Montreal royals. The. Royals were a minor league, but a big step forward in his goal to plan the major leagues. Jackie traveled with the team and struggled at first, but began to improve, and eventually became the MVP or most valuable player in his league. On April Eighteenth Nineteen, forty six. It was a momentous day when the royals play against the Jersey City giants, making it the first time players of different skin color in a minor league competed against each other. In nineteen forty seven Jackie Robinson was finally invited to play for the Brooklyn dodgers in the major leagues. He played first baseman to a crowd of more than twenty six thousand spectators, which included spectators who are black and white. At first Jackie's own team was unsure whether they were ready to play with him. They had come from families who believed in segregation, so was new for them to welcome become teammates and friends with someone who is black, but over time they became close, eventually supported Jackie. During one game, the other team was harassing. Jackie Teammate pee. Wee Reese saw was happening. It put his arm around Jackie to comfort him. Jacky finished the season with the dodgers with one hundred and fifty one games. He had a batting average of two ninety seven, and on base percentage of three, seventy, three and a four twenty seven slugging percentage, he had one hundred and seventy-five hits scoring one hundred twenty five runs, including thirty one doubles five triples twelve home runs driving in forty eight runs for the year Jackie also led the League and sacrifice hits with twenty eight, and in stolen bases with two thousand nine. He ended up the major league rookie of the year award, a rookie of someone who is new to the major leagues. Over the years Jackie continued to prove at his game and nineteen forty nine joined the All star team. In one, thousand, nine, hundred, eighty, five, the dodgers went to the world series and beat the Yankees for the championship. Later after retiring from Baseball Jackie Robinson was active in politics and later continued to speak out about equality in major league baseball. He later had a baseball stadium named after him, and the rookie of the year award was later called the Jackie Robinson Award. Hundred, Ninety, seven, his Jersey number forty two was retired, which means no one was able to use the same number because it would be reserved for Jackie. Jackie one said a life is not important except in the impact it has on others lives think about what that means for a moment. What does it mean to have an impact or make a difference in the lives of others for good? How can you make a difference in the lives of others for good? He also said life is not a spectator sport. If you're going to spend your life in the grandstand, just watching what goes on in my opinion, you're wasting your life. A spectator means just watching others. It's fun to watch others, but Jackie Sang. It's even better to get out and play yourself. Think of something he liked to watch. Have you ever considered doing it yourself?.

"History is now available on spotify and a big. Thank you to those who have left reviews and ratings a shout out to Paul and his dad. Thanks for leaving such a kind review. Close Your eyes and imagine you're in a baseball stadium stepping up to bat. Dodger stadium is packed full of cheering fans some are cheering you on, but others are calling you horrible names from the stands you take a deep breath, and try to nor them you hold up your bat and look at the Pitcher who is preparing to throw the ball? He pulls back then throws the ball and it comes flying towards you at full speed. You Swing your bat and hit the ball with a crack. It flies over the field as you sprint from first base, the non to second third and home. It's a home. Run your teammates. Congratulate you, but some of the stands are still calling. You mean names. This is what happened to Jackie Robinson the famous baseball player, but who was Jackie, Robinson. And how did he end up playing for the dodgers? And why was the crowd calling him horrible names? Jackie. Roosevelt Robinson was born January thirty first nineteen, nineteen in Cairo Georgia. His father left the family when he was little leaving his mother molly to raise him and has four other siblings. Soon after this, they moved to Pasadena California. And California Jackie and his family lived in the neighborhood where they were treated differently. They'd come from Georgia. Where most of the other families were African American, but in California families in their new neighborhood. We're not and we're white. This was a time when racial discrimination was common. Racial Discrimination is when a group of people are treated differently because of their race. For example, they aren't able to have the same jobs or their segregated, which means they have to go to different schools or use different bathrooms restaurants. Jackie loves sports, BUT BECAUSE HE wasn't black, he was unable to play in the same league as the other kids. But this didn't keep Jackie from playing his favorite sports anyway. Two of his favorites were basketball and baseball. He spent a lot of time practicing and became better and better. In High School Jackie's older brothers, frank and Mac saw how good he was and urged him to try out for the school teams. At his high school, fortunately, there was no segregation and Jackie was able to play alongside his white classmates. There Jackie ended up playing football baseball basketball and track, and did very well and all of them. On the baseball team he was the catcher and in football. He was the quarterback. For, the basketball team, he was a guard. And, track and field has best skill was the broad jump. Oh and he also played tennis as you can tell, Jackie loved.

"Just the air of invincibility and the adjust felt that some way somehow his teams were always going to win as just as a fan. You had to trick yourself into believing that the other team really could way just just a Benz. But if you wanted to pick the moment of actual legitimate vulnerability. It's ninety three. The Knicks are up to. Oh in the conference finals now. I did not think the bills were vulnerable. Even then but if you're down to oh when you don't have home court you're you're vulnerable and game five game. Five is the Charles Smith game that comes out to the world if that game differently you know. It's so it's that and it's Pacers game seven hundred ninety eight that you're talking about and it's my favorite of the Bulls finals just as a fan. My my most favorite. The one that was most into was ninety seven against Utah which has two two and game five is in Utah. And it's the flu game at two two game four is when Stockton and Malone the full cost last minute of the game one of the great passes in NBA History Malone as it in Utah goes up by one goes on to win at that moment. You thought maybe the jets can can actually do this. And then game five happens in Michael Sick and he looks sick and on TV or like this dude can barely walk. I just remember thinking the jazz are going to go up three two. They might actually pull this up. So those are the moments of vulnerability ninety seven ninety three and Pacers game. I don't pick whatever one. Those were the ones where the invincibility was like. Well what I think those teams had in common and I go back to the Pacers team of nine eight aunt and the next thing. They were big. They'd played volleyball. They were strong. They were physical. And you know. The patients were down two to nothing in that series to the Bulls in in ninety eight and the conference finals. And they were getting manhandled. Phil. Jackson did a really smart thing. He put Scottie Pippen. Mark Jackson so mark Jackson made his living posting up smaller guards. And now all of a sudden couldn't do that and I think it was Ron Harper on Reggie Miller so he made some really good adjustments so the first two games. The Pacers you're thinking. They got no chance. They got no chance in this series. They can't they can keep up with these guys but what they started doing was just saying. Let's pound them. This is where we have an advantage. We have a size in a physicality advance. Let's use it and that's how they got themselves back into that series you know and they just got really really physical when of course came forward. That's the famous shot that we see all the time of. Reggie pushing off Michael. The game winner at Fills Yali calls. We never get any calls. Which was just beyond to Larry's Michael and that's where he just standing happen yet. You know just literally. He's watching. He's watching train. Go by or something on a piece of that was all by design. I have asked him about that a bunch of times and he said to me. I just thought I cannot show outside. Anka's I know it's not over. I don't want them to get giddy. We haven't done anything yet. All that was very much by design and Brad Stevens if you notice. He's a little more emotional now. He's getting more comfortable in the NBA. But when he first came into the League you'd be very deadpan if they want a game a game at the Buzzer. You would think Brad no expression I asked him about it once and he said when I was a kid growing up in Indiana I watched Larry Bird and I saw that and I thought okay. That's how we have to do this. That interesting it's funny a- It is It is funny. How Different Cultures? React to. But lay a larry was ridiculous. That was ridiculous. That just see stood there like you're a strategy realizing Larry Bird he said I will only coach three years and then actually was a man of his word only coach three years. I just think he could have been a hall of fame coach. I really do of so. He always talks about game. Seven of that series in ninety eight and before the game Michael Guarantees Wind shocking. Michael Jordan of course is unbelievable. He's unbelievable but this is the play that libraries talks about the. It's there there are three about six minutes left. The Pacers are you know what I I. I haven't watched having watched the game the other day. I have a guest of what I think it'd be Derek McKee knocks the ball. Loose does die. They're diving on the floor. There's a jump ball. Is this what you think my guest? But my guess is it's Rick Smits and Michael Jordan. Okay now of course is greatest Jordan is. It's probably not GonNa win this tip. Rick Smits seven feet tall. So they're lining up for the jump bird and Dick Carter. His right hand. Man is assistant. Coach are standing there. They watch everybody lineup. And Pippen's kind of hedging a little bit in on Reggie Miller who's in front right at least in front and it's it's clear sailing for Smith's to tip behind would be an easy tip now remember. The Pacers are up three here so they're looking at it and burned sexual self. Oh this is perfect. He'll just sit back and then he's like Shoot he never hits back. He always sits at four now. This is all in a mental mental milliseconds. Right so harder says to. Maybe we should call timeout birds thinking no no no. We're going to win the tip. I WANNA save time out. But as he's thinking this he's like what I've never seen Smith's tip it back he's GonNa tip at Ford. They're going to intercepted. I'M GONNA call timeout and it's too late the balls up in the air and PIPPA does exactly what bird fears. He jumps in front of Richie. Smits TIPS IT to Reggie Miller. Pippen jumps the passing lane steals the ball. Get it to Michael Jordan. Who BY THE WAY MRS? Because you were talking about. It doesn't make every shot. Missed THAT SHOT BUT PIP. And got the rebound. Because of course they killed him on the offensive glass. It was like yeah like is how they WANNA get crazy. What Michael Jordan in that game has four baskets that are that are put backs and I think three of them are awesome his own shots including including rebels but anyway so he misses the shot. Tip gets the rebound. Kicks IT OUT TO CURRY? It's a three so instead of the Pacers winning the tip a chance to be up five now to tie game and if you ask about that game that you ever get the chance ask about that. Because that's what he remembers all these years later so I watch the dealer day and and it looks like you're watching all these games are low definition and it's like you can't even like low definition feels next will be doing like this. Why excuse the players are it? Looks a little bit like Jordan jumps in his arm kind of hit smits his arm and I it looks. It's hard to tell because it's from the twenties but it looks like his arm Kinda Hits Smith's his arm and interferes with Smith's his ability to completely control the like Switz- wins the tip but he can't quite directed it where it wants to attack the Edwards that was worth spurts point. You Know Steve Kerr is coming on the podcast next week to talk about Jordan in the last dance and I texted him. I was watching the game. I said Steve this jump ball. You know you get this offense rebound you hit a three two. I just I just said Steve. I just watched you tie game seven with a three and this crazy jump ball. And he said Reggie Miller to this day talk about that. Play all the time about how that would play the swung. The game are changed the game. The I don't know what he said he said. Reggie and I talk about that play. Every time we stick vard's craw that and of course the rebounding. I think they also missed a ton of free throws didn't they they missed like forte throws throws. Yeah well a lot by a lot of them are they. Can't they'll be missing is that's what that's what he does before. I let you go. I mean we're talking about games. But what are some other personal Michael Jordan? Memories that you can share that are important to you. I mean even in your piece you talk about how you see him today and you see you know a father who likes to go skiing with his kids and he tells him stick with you for some reason. So what are what are some? Maybe there's something a an interview did with him. That meant something to career. Maybe I don't know what else comes to mind. I called him about a story. I was doing I think it was. Kobe was doing a story on Toby's retirement. And all the great mentors he had and of course Jordan was a number one. I wasn't sure if Jordan you never know if he's going to call you you know you talk to. Sd His great assistant. Why a door do Jordan's number but a very very rarely ever texting because I shouldn't have as number then we're going to do that right so I think the only time I've ever texted him. Frankly was day Kobe died. I texted him. And that's when he told me I can't even know words right now I can't even But anyway so I'm at home with husband was away on actually and the phone rang and it was a Florida number and I'm like asked probably either radio show that I don't feel like doing right now or Bamn but I don't know maybe picking up. It was him and I had called him for this story for Kobe. And he was fantastic. And the thing that really resonated with me was Kobe's wanted to be like Jordan. That's really all he wanted to. He just wanted to be Jordan and Jordan really had a soft spot for Kobe. I heard it. This is not. This is not after the fact. Now the Kobe's gone this is. Kobe was alive and well. He was about to retire and the kindness with which Michael Talk about Kobe. That night's me some of it off the record some of it on so I won't share the off the record stuff because that wouldn't be fair but real concern that Kobe because he fell short. He didn't win the six championships like Jordan data because people are always comparing him to Jordan and talking about how koby fell short that really bothered him because he really had great respect for Kobe. Going about things the right way in terms of preparation in terms of that killer instinct that we've talked about a bunch on this podcast so there was a real kindness about Jordan when he spoke of Kobe that you know. I don't have reflective kindness that I don't think I'd always heard before when he was in you know in the throes of competition and We have a kind of a long conversation that night. I had actually ended up in the announcement. Something I'd be telling. I ended up in the emergency room that day I had had Like a heart publication which I had never had before and I've never had since not sure why I had it and So he said what are you doing? I said Oh. I got my slippers on my husband's away on a Guy. Ski Trick in Drinking a glass of wine and I said maybe I should just had this thing. Today I went to the I don't know why I even told him. And he was like. Hey now at our age. You don't mess with that. That's you gotTa make sure you follow up with and it was funny like because we're we were both for Colson Age. You know I'm older but we're similar age and it just sort of occurred to me when I was speaking with him that day that evening which was a while ago now. Whatever Kobe's final year plan was that I don't know we've been through a lot together that's consult like to me. It was a very nice feeling to have. He was not in my market. You know he was not in Boston. It wasn't like experiences with bird and perish Mikhail banning all them But it it meant something to me and it was. It was great to have a conversation with them. That had nothing to do with me trying to find out something that was relevant to his career. His legacy was just two people having a conversation. And those are the things. I think that all of us that do this business. When you have those moments you cherish them what you're really describing is. You've got a much more personal and private in early. Sneak peek at his speech at Kobe's memorial which identified. Yeah which surprised so many people because it's just a side of him that no one really hit ever seen before and in fact the contract with Hall of fame speech which is sort of classic ultracompetitive Sacco Jordan that that speech at Kobe's thing just blew everybody away and you got well in four or five years in advance of a sort of a private and personal in much longer and in-depth kind of version of that personal that's fits very interesting..

"Dot be amazing so I'll flight my bisexual culture like because when you go surprise it's like okay. Rainbow FLAG ISN'T MINE. And then it's like straight stuff makes me sick because it's also amazingly mainstream and presumptions that makes us about people and and so it got telling-off now we do have a by warrior don't there is there is and by. Con IS LIKE A conference Roy every year. So the rest. I mean to be honest after now is of realized that I'm not a massive wreaking. Oh this is excellent. The next paragraph is an excellent might isolate Mozelle from everyone. Let's just alienate everyone? I don't really like GEICO. I mean like mainstream gay culture this place to go now on hulls life lame now like a little people straight culture and realized. I'M NOT MASSIVELY KANE ON BY CULTURE. So it's like okay so we'll just have a community of Weirdos. Stay home more I am doing. Have you ever had any tricky times coming out to people not so much now because it was more an early gains where I'm from scam is just for foreign listeners? Skelmersdale northwest England. Jackets over. I it's just. It's like a little rough as very very small and everyone has got Kapalama. Tragedies talks into the socks you know it's very samey and so I couldn't find my people can find my we as the needs finds more ways those so it was really sad and ice license and mentally folks but it was the about sexuality at about just being very separate and very alone yes totally. Yeah I didn't know it will be okay one thing. I didn't know that I'd be able to go on stage and find my way does and you know I just saw. This is a I was like. I don't know if I'M GONNA fall in love or flat stuff and all just lie. Internalized by stuff internalized homophobia all stuff. You start because you know the society teaches. Your funny isn't a lot of people. Say this. You know this so much sort of shame and angst and feeling isolated and when you're that young you just can't see a future where that's GonNa Change. Can you really and it seems like the worst place in the worst thing in the world doesn't it? I think they're at helps tally. If you see stuff like divine David's is this. God that'd be on channel fill so that was when I was seen foresee maybe yeah I taper off. The tally wasn't a time for an assigned. Fouls way you answered highs it from your moment is moment lots. Were you know. Just fine and crazy. It's still feel like this little precious thing because why the society wasn't life I'm so it was still kind of heads. And and a bit of a lifeline. Really because so boy Joe. Joe's maze of Boy George but he wasn't screaming at the walls on a needed. Someone who was screaming dwelt. Which are they say? Someone like Ellen but no you weren't going to pick someone extremist in the ninety S. When she came out in her Sitcom. It was a huge deal. Yeah the commended didn't the seven now. She's got all the success that she's gone because she fought for change basically she had to go through the rejection and the mine was. Joe's that was my allan impress massive. I'm going to impress you know war. I'm GonNa tell you the best Georgia I'm going to tell you that I was the lesbian storyline at voice for you wind. Gods Oh my God. I know the person who did the sorry. The ancestor on a slalom. I say okay. Sorry no that's different wasn't an expert. Lesbian storylines excellent. Wow so did you right. So I'M GONNA consultants on. I was the publication of Liverpool's Changes Union and the researchers at Brookside Ranks Changed Union women's officer saying have you gone lesbians we can speak being storyline and we don't know anything about let's being coach. She went yeah. That's really good. Yes what's this meeting but it was really difficult because this massive big long table at mercy. Tv Yeah and these. Two women were sat in the opposite end of this massive table. But how do we show Beth Jordache as a young woman questioning sexuality without actually ever saying it could should be reading all just yet? Because you'd be reading a copy of the Pink News. Which in those days was a newspaper so yeah advise them on there. And then what's it? She takes a car. I remember I think but also I then said to them right because this is the way prior to absolute dating stuff's like she'll need to go out and go to a gay club guys must be your heart and I think everyone can see you. Walk down the street from a Mile Away. I go and Lesbian Mesler. Absolute fear in a way but the you know the exciting days not for the first time I said summers. Either you're going to have to do is saying well. She goes to gay nightclub who she needs to go out in the pool and fighting the woman. But yes why and when you do that I will supply with proper. Lgbt extras to put in the clubs really doesn't look like wrong. And I did my friend. Steve Kissed his boyfriend in the background. And that again was one of the first. Like Gay Milkis his own safety but no one ever talks about that because I would just. It was just in the background. Yeah he kissed his boyfriend Gareth. Oh and it was in this awful. It was obviously a pub in the middle of the day. Summer Nipple cover were. Yeah but I was the most popular person in Liverpool. We got paid fifty pounds eight spin extra and I. Lgbt characters on the TV does made the dies before or after shoes last year. I DID NOT ADVISE. The first lesbian character should then be advised. That can I just point that out? obviously we homophobia thing is just Brooke sizing up everything. Someone's GonNa get buried reef. Jackie had any advice to import to any current Jackie's who sold sold from the Internet. I think the maybe because of the incident because there's so much identity out there 'cause I imagine why aren't fail if there was when I was saying is that you've got to be able to understand the old because sometimes the kitchen inquire amick language. All the railing. Germantown other people don't know something that they've just lend some and I think it's good that kids really now but like this sort of cancel culture and stuff asked me Shit missile for saying it's on the end semester sassine so I'd say just sort of step away from that and just figure out what you are in your heart you know authentically what you really are and then go out and fall in love seventeen times and break your heart since one thousand pieces. You'll be fine. Yeah do you think you will get over it eventually but yet broken homes do hill? But you're right. It is about knowledge in itself in the first place. "Conversations of your life. I'm Emma goes well watch out for. The swearing comes Jackie. Haiku poet Comedian Anthony. To Mak- she grew up in skelmersdale in northwest England. I'm just white hair about her. First sheltered crushes. I think she's the first person that's ever taught me about being attracted to an object couple of into this. Well I always take the bisexual box literally but the small size ends than that isn't the I like. The word Queer is on fire with an lots waves produced Survive Queen just meaning like fucking things off like an assault of of quite like you know doing it wrong for any sort of purposeful goods. Why saw linked to and GAL rank had to go wrong. Even crepe wrong lights disabled wrong so that people can say me so got one leg and so I- folk that applied instead of being like the. Oh God of Gotland Lego. Pull me or you know whatever light the thing that people expect to be as I do like stump poetry. An you'd like you know you've got to get a celebrity is obviously so it's like things to fuck shit open. A really goes. Why THEM OPENLY SURF expectation? So that's your favorite subject to them. Basically yeah yes. That's what it's called like. Calm Yourself Queer. Because that's what I'm about ways so alike but then when you say queer people like what does she really mean. What's the real sexuality as if it's an umbrella term that means nothing? I don't think that I love it so then you like you're right. Yeah you just want to know. What jets wholesome into his own? Yeah so I mean some yeah. Yeah so all of them all of them and then as problem as advice actual isn't words now. It's the the problem of sexual I mean. A lot of people now are saying Pan Sexual as opposed to vice may be in the past. Marta said bisexual this big shift. Isn't that the problem with bisexual? So people again and a couple of ood might people's on from scam in Wigan listen cone means like he got he got gangrene loving bisexual because of buy into so people like that means that you only like men and women. I'm by taming. You hate transpeople. Or You are an unseen. Non Binary so. That's absolute bollocks. You know historically bisexual people of been translated some advice on use of limited space. It's not like Oh you're bisexual you've got twice. The amount of exceptions gay people hate you straight people here generally people just keep the fucking down which at some yes so historically. It's like being bisexual rights. I don't care about being accepted by any of the group of people Which is true as well of being non binary and Trans and you know occupying all. I'm spices song. Yes was bullshit just because just because the prefix by means ten means that people can really like so fixate on the Ron and going Oh do you know what this represents people and people more complicated than that? By definition you probably would identify as being panned. But you'll just quite happy using by sexual stuff is just like the underdog. I just wanted to defend the word bisexual. Rarely saw stay with it and also I just saw a fought for inside and outside to me. That's because it's you're yourself as well an fought for it for so long about. Just give it all you know so. We'll just fight the case for because there's a lot of sex was out there but the core find not enough people put their head over the parapet and go. Yes me. I'm bisexual. Well exactly. Yeah and especially when you've got a platform if you perform in some sense because you don't know that she giovanna you're gonNA pay the rent Matassa if you like. Oh Yeah Bisexual and the streets you folks on what Stacey Wipe People's so it was sort of come to the conclusion that you were by social what was like my first crush was multiple. Was on tremendously Sasi. Yeah like h three with multiple. I was very very politically correct when it was on the way. Multiple glomma model lovable and Rambo. Rambos Rob Rumba Joe Jr so take like Kinsey. You know it was the people you love some crushing Mongo. I'm moms what you call this. Big Massive St that Intel from the way of Santana big massive tape Zack. Were get so plus plus two. What about the guests that was in there with the group? I was as a Christian Catholic blaster as well. Okay well. This is moving into a whole news. Fair inanimate objects as well well you'll stay. There was just so didn't have any I mean. I think I haven't changed that much since I've lived like quite hard life but in another way quite charmed life because of never rarely socialized. I've never had an office job. I add my parents who great I was never really told off. Fancying ghetto blaster. So we're never stops at quick fair enough check. And you're the first person that's come out. Mister trump's object today like you. I didn't know that you sexually with age child. You wouldn't really so. When was the first time you sort of articulated that and said maybe to your family or someone that union Joran advance and Brooke signs and at been getting the balls up phrases. Well I should suppose that was some some of whom Ananta parents and it didn't say to them moms odds I'm bisexual because it sounds to sexual you know like even just saying the words something sexual Siemens feels embarrassing society as well. He's just embarrassed. The rivalry so aside at the the girl saying I'm not my friends. That's my girlfriends. Go thirteen year. But she wasn't she didn't really like me. That's why USC skips over at nine nine thousand virus so you were having a relationship with not just it was you liked to. I live in a world of delusion. It's like even citizens vets-go angle most the most the reality of this because one year reis from performing you re rice life the narratives in your own life because you use it using the angle. What really happened so at thirteen? There was a girl at school. Presumably that you liked. Did you tell her that you know I was studying like everyone I think is? Is that my sexuality? Always been like a won't the elicit thing on the saying I'm not meant today once a Catholic school. So maybe that's so you're not meant to go out with women but then once so as like very established in the lesbian community. It's like Oh you're allowed to go out with women now. So that's not fun anymore for how Lesbians Hate is shackled men. Let's go to that and then once it was like Oh Giannis just bisexual or okay. So now I'm allowed to Shag out everyone on so where to go. Now so did you. Really get flack from les pins than for food. Let me yeah. Yeah Yeah I was angry. Sort of twenty something. You get more people on the late. I didn't see you face. Those quad knock ECOWAS land. I wasn't this wonderful chairman. Of course you got loads of like bi phobia. I go threatened and stuff life performance pride and do stuff about bisexuality and go like threatens and the Beer Garden say threatens me and you know when you think Oh my God. I'm going to get my kicks usually annoyance and like some people get an annoys for being in Chris Vices or existence in general and then you got like straight people alike. Think just think that it means the Kinky and you WanNa go fronts while I watch so. Why is it so difficult for people to comprehend? I've never really understood. It's just proud. People love binary is learning. People are obsessed with like extremes. The idea that the world's and people are just very gray area and everything's fluid scares the shit our people because humans needs the categorize things like pick a solid any side. Exactly you feel miserable. Yeah it's just don't give a Shit. Choose one very very similar to the football analogy. Yeah it's interesting. I know why phobia exists. I've certainly dated a lot bisexual. Men over the years and a half off lesbian friends. Turn around and go Emma. Why are you bothering? Yeah and the assumption is. They'll never commit to you. Because in the end of the day they will go up and find him on these sump. Shen and then I guess in straight world. The assumption is for men that you're going to go off and leave them for women so you can just want you have kinky sacks. Yeah yeah difficult so you haven't told me yet. The conversation over brookside. What happened to be here for us? So let's go back in time and they were just like okay. It wasn't a difficult kid but I was fucking whimsical. You know thought could fly. It was a more lowest much so they were just like okay okay. I think they saw us. It was a phase but because it was a faizy kid not because they were pricks. And you said you couldn't say reverse bisexual. So how did he phrase it? What did he say? I sat this girl. I such as my girlfriend but then you start talking about what she really Alfred portion on you have to keep coming out so it was. It was years I was being bisexual. I would say it was bisexual swell the people and then Owens University and I was so excited about joining and it was just the algae bay then feel old. I was so excited about being around people and then I got there and it was like Oh okay. You know survival instincts that sends us and you like folk. I should say. Espn so then. There was a lesbian to try. And Fa these people are whenever fest with anyway so it was more of a class thing than a sexual thing but anyway he didn't think that except you. You said that you were born. Not Definitely not gosh. Well you say you're all university. I'm that old. It was just the lesbian and gay society. Didn't even business eljay changes that was in Liverpool. Really the early nineties. Yeah Liverpool Exchange Union Lesbian and Gay Society and I made them change. It came out of sexual I I would say. Yeah really. Yeah just decided just because the couple of boyfriends doesn't really make me bisexual. Their Charter Mail didn't work. I think that's the thing is people don't know what the what the definition of bisexual is. Dude I don't know if they're allowed to call themselves fan so the guy off Plata Baranov guy is lesbian is thought you along whereas in reality it's like you can call yourself. You know you fancy one man and old woman in the World Bisexual Fun. Yeah exactly I still fancy. David Beckham on occasion. So yeah. Maybe I'm still bussing actual. Maybe it's forever changing isn't a plan doesn't have to stick to one thing though. We say it's a lot more fluid people think you know when people go don't like labels and I used to hate that because there was like I'm folk. Who Fighting for this label mates? I think had laws on people of just realized Iverson's fluids. Everything's it doesn't fucking mass lot much in terms of like just accepts everyone but the thing is is that if you not finding all about labels then you can't fight foot furry so the needs to be a kind of a campaign that needs to be abandoned is like four Calms Island accepts everyone. Maybe some showers enough as it really both men and women and yeah it is putting her well. it's more about the Straits. I've never tasted the bisexual woman. Don't think yes sir. I've tasted lesbians Butch Lesbians Brilliant Stassen Brandon. Roy Bisexual man again that that makes sense to me. That's present BUSA. Now I'm saying straight man is not just a straight man is strays. Middle-class is nine to five able bodies neuro tape-recorded white middle class. Man Walked a fork. Utah disappointed disappoints. The I've been trying to convince them but even on Coke is now. Everyone intern anyone with cocaine for like he's even straight land. It's disgusting and have you had him you all by securing love your Easter a main. I'm out there on ice. Just the idea of hope is one. It's always something bisexual in my assume that I'm straight off. Well let me just say you'll start with your rainbow colored hair and your source of stalls and Rainbow Tattoos. Love your body as well as well as quiz gusty. Yeah and I think maybe just the way I approach is tall handsome and still flat. Has He ever mentioned it? Or you've had any conversations I saw bang on about like buyer Asia life on saving. You know when someone to Maisy Gather. Simone opens like gay or strikes all. Italian grandma and they'll say oh they must be guy because they've kissed you know I've kind of not staunchly will just notice now because the two because. I'm not watching this algorithm but yeah it's gone about did saying early days. He said something that was like you don't need a community because you can join an is a one and I was like no. Don't you think it'd be lovely to have my own community like.

Thank you guys. It is going to be one heck of a twenty twenty speaking of twenty twenty. This is going to be a little bit different episode today. It's kind of like a soft start to the year. We're GONNA have a hard start next week. We've got a massive news in regards to how you can listen to the show. Oh coming in the upcoming weeks as well but Yeah this is kind of a a soft start mainly because it's the first week of the year and I have a race. I literally all week long. Been Planning waiting for the best and they're not going to be banging doors with the best in the business in my players razor this weekend so he didn't have a chance to do a full roll out of the show So Yeah it's we've got a couple of amazing guests this week and then it's a little bit different format to the show next week we will be back to our traditional format that you guys know love and expect But cut our two guests this week. I'm very very excited to have. Jackie reese now. I was up at indeed the X.. Game Snow by Qualifiers Eddie Rx and there was this girl that really caught my attention and everybody their names. Jackie reese she is an absolute bad ass honest no by competing against the guy. She actually raised every single race. That that day Just about every single race I think maybe there was one or two. She didn't race but like full on iron woman style and she hauls ass and she's racing against the guys it is and you know what I got to have her on the show. I think this interview. We're GONNA roll out today. You guys are GonNa absolutely love this girl. She is She's a force to be reckoned with on on Asto bike. And I think you guys are really going to joy this interview with Jackie Reese. You should definitely give her fallen instagram. She's slanted and then we've got an extended I guess extended cut a very long interview. My Boy Street by Tommy. Tommy just launched a new show where he blows things up. Yeah by Tommy blowing things up while you know what that that means. We're going to have on the show. And anytime I catch up on my way street by Tommy talk about what's happening. There at the compound is barbecue business Just a racing things reckon things blowing things up you know. It's going to be a fun time. It's a street bike. Tommy is on the show this week and we're probably lucky that this particular episode isn't airing National Syndication Gatien because I will give you fair warning. Maybe a few four letter words tossed around one St Thomas. I do an interview together so they aren't believed so I'm just telling you if you're one of our younger a younger listeners. Expect that not too bad. It's not like the whole thing's full of stuff but Yeah just a little disclaimer there but yes it is going to be a great show. I know over the holidays. I made my way up to Minnesota. Spent some time with my boy Levi Lavallee. He took me snowmobiling. And I gotTa tell you. I've been snowmobiling. Won't billing plenty of times in my life but You know snowmobiling when Levi Lavallee. That is always fun. You know. We're just riding ditches going across frozen lakes things like that and you can watch one of the he best guys to ever write a snowmobile and just following along absolutely amazing mind blowing to see how good that guy was I mean. He was like jumping out of ditches and doing tricks like just it was like stuff like you. Just I duNNo. It's crazy. You gotta see it but Funny Funny Story and I'm GonNa Levi on in the next couple of weeks so he'll be able able to chime in on this but he's actually starting his own podcast which I think will be Kinda Rad But Levi so we literally get to this frozen lake and You know it's been warm winter for Minnesota for the most part things are frozen over but it goes all right. Jimmy Cecile spots out there. Where there's the water and I said? Yeah Yeah you you know it's like it's all mushy and stuff like that. He's like so he's like this lake. He's like if rose over and he's like an but he says there's some saw spots where you might fall through the ice a little bit. I'm might fall through the ice limit. Deal like offer mares. I don't like this fall through the ice stuff and he goes no no no. He's like so there's ice and then there's some water and then there's more ice ice and he's like he's like it's not open water. It's just like it's really kind of wet and slushy and he's like it is water but he's like six to eight inches underneath it. There's more ice I promise you and and I'm like well I'm not gonNA argue Levi Valley boys for Minnesota. He knows his ice but he's like so he's like I'm just telling you like going on your syllabi across lake and the ice breaks breaks. He's like just floor and he's like as long as you're going you're going to be fine. I'm like so the ice is going to break my snow. Mobiles going to fall into the water but as long long as I stay on the gas I'm good. He goes. Yeah you're good. He's like I promise underneath the water. There's more ice and I'm looking at a Mike. And then he just goes all right. I'll see on this other side of the lake and he just halls. You just always ask. And so I'm looking and there goes Levi and he's just buzzing around there and I'm like well. This is about sketchy right and so like all right. I'm like let's go for I go out there and about the spotty told me boom ice breaks bottom of the snowmobile starts falling through the ice. I gun that thing and I'm like Whoa. Whoa this is like the I and I know there's isolated because he tells me but literally the backtrack is in the water chewing through the ice and the powder? That's the foreman on there. I get across the lake and I gotTa tell you. Talk about an Adrenalin rush. And I know there was ice center there but the feeling of writing snowmobile across a lake and having the the ice break underneath you even though there's another layer of ice like You know six eight inches down I it is the weirdest feeling and Yeah I mean we had a great great time I got to give a big thank you to him For loaned me the slad taking me out but I gotTa tell you that was kind of one of the highlights of my winter break it. It was It was pretty wild but snowmobile Lavallee like who's going to turn that down. Nobody but Yeah good times up there. We'll have him as a guest on the show coming up. You know like like I said before. It's going to be a little bit weird show today. I mean normally we'd be talking about supercross we'd have power rankings would be talking about the Dacca Rally going on. We are going to get to all all of that. It's going to be the start of next week though because right now I am literally heading to jump in my razor and take it through tech inspection at the race and I'm recording this show. Oh kind of inbetween that so couple of great guests today. Jackie Reese Trust me. Follow this girl and instagram. You're GONNA like it. You're GonNa like this interview she. She is red. She deserves the follow. Give some love and then st by Tommy Man. What more can I say street by? Tommy is a bad ass so yeah we're going to roll this and you you guys two hundred and hopefully you guys enjoy it. I'll be back at the end of the show to Kinda Kinda wrap things up here But yeah should be a solid one today which Jackie restrict by. "And overall lifestyle that so many people are obsessed with the hey guys like in this you may know them by their instagram handles alone at grow with no job at Jackie O problems or you may know them by the name of their show the morning toast regardless of how you know them. You and your friends are likely huge fans of at least one of their many popular endeavors from current events to pop culture. You can always always count on these two to get you the news that you want and deserve. Please welcome Claudia and Jackie to play before every room. I walk into into runs always asking for a bio. You just take this yeah and run with it. That's like my favorite thing in the world is so narcissistic but my favorite thing in the world old is when I go on like other shows and they injure on me and like just name off all the amazing things. I've done and I thank you. It's a great call. I I was telling you before you got here. I'm like I am always just hung over piece of Shit in New York like I never actually get stuff done or like. Go see the sights or anything 'cause. I'm always just a hot mess. The next I go out at like nine. PM till like four yeah and then just sleep all day. Yep Yep. That's why we do and we live here yeah yeah and also we live and are born here and I've never been to the Statue of Liberty. I've never saw the empire state building. I never been to Ellis Island. I'd never been to any of this. I might have into Ellis silence. I got an offer to go to the top of the rocket the Empire State building but I was I had vertigo. I'm sorry and the traffic alone together. It's just not worth the free experience headline headline which is pretty cool but like I would shit my hands up there. Yeah I'm all set. I I too would ship my pants but I like my dad and my stepmom came I and when I was living here last year and so we always everyone wanted to do the touristy things so I was forced to do them. It's really not like I love seeing Statue of Liberty obviously but I'm like the hell well it is to get. They're not worth it unlike the boat with all these tourists people and it was just like a nightmare. That's equality you get while living in New York because it's so hard to get to most most places you really evaluate what's worth getting out of bed for right and it really helps in like saving you time sitting in traffic and waiting for the subway yeah and I feel like I've done the touristy thing so when I'm here now. I'm like well. I'm just GONNA party. I find it interesting that the only people who have done the touristy things in New York are people who are not from New York. Nobody I know has ever been to the Statue of Liberty. Really that was one of my dates on the show was a got to like helicopter around and see. I was like I could have high five the stats. That's actually to me on a private helicopter like I guess I could go yeah don on makeup. That's got us a helicopter ride for Valentine's Day or something and I refused. I I will not go on a helicopter so there's a gift certificate every day. New York about chopper going down oh good thing I didn't know that at the time totally been like a huge fear mine okay we're just looking on Instagram instagram obviously and the skinny confidential is pregnant. Did you guys talk about the show this morning because happened after here. Oh and we're just so happy for since we love her and Michael in liquid just so pleased for their ever growing family announcement was just everything I would expect nothing less from the weight of instagram absolutely not. I didn't even know they like we're planning on having kids me. Neither is that that's not something they talk about it. Nobody's like they're married so it was actually just thinking to myself recently like about her and I was wondering wondering she's GonNa have kids soon and then here you go yeah. It's so crazy. She's the nicest girl so nice and she's like a mentor to like some girls and a her and their relationship chip is just the cutest fucking thing in the whole world each other up. They really do and they've been together since leak for like twenty years. They've known each other. That's what he said. He wrote the nicest instagram caption. Oh I got love and it's really sweet and also she's like so on top of her shit like as a business woman and wife Yeah. She's going to be a wonderful mom and now is the perfect time for her to be a mom. You Al Shit is stable for her business there. That's a good place in life yeah. I'm so excited for them. I cannot wait to see that game. I know she's going to be so extra like with the stroller. Extra and I'm going to be here for you to Oh. I can't wait what else his heart on his slow news day the show every day so so some days it's on fire. It was a lot of actually like sad news. You know the the young country star who was in a car so terrible like broke me yeah so just talking about attached on the show. It's like the worst because we just try me like positive but you got to report on what's going on and sometimes it's not so good yeah. That's true yeah really sad that I don't like that. I know it just throws off your whole. I know that's what we pivot out of it. 'cause we're just like funny like happy. Bouncing pivot out of three stories in a row that were bad yeah yeah what other side what little mix one of the members was talking about being cyber bullied and how she tried to commit suicide because of all the terrible things people are saying about her and then and we just started talking about the terrible things people say about us we were just in it right and then like we tryin pivot out of stories and it's really hard to do so we end up just being wildly inappropriate like I was talking about. Michael Jackson deterred Michael Back on the road so I was just is talking with the last podcast about Britney Spears and how sad that is to like just everything. I just watch her instagram than I think. She's like like ten ten year old. Maybe in in her her body. Did you see her most recent compilation of the black and yellow dresses. Yes I did Bumblebee yeah. I'm a Bumblebee and the song that's the like the Italians on automatic on cleared the do she knows everyone's worried about her and and she's like trying to make us more worried well. I'm like. I don't even know if she knows something's wrong. I think that she's a little bit more aware and like privy to what's going on then people think yeah yeah and I just think she thinks she's distracting us with her instagram. We're not gonNA talk about all the drama that's going on with. Chad and the conservative show. We're we're talking about is the drama right really is like. I just I said this on the last podcast. I'm worried about her yeah. I just think collectively like we also get no answers. There's from her camp ever so it's like we have all this worry and concern and then like never find out what happened. How are we supposed to find out the circle has never closed on. What's going on documentary. Yeah Yeah I would live for Brittany documentary we need. We need so many answers. It's been years of like question. Did you ever see that thing that they did. It wasn't Brittany but it was like her story and it was like a movie about her time. Yeah it was the worst lifetime is always taking people's lives and making horrible baseless movies about them. It's always pretending like Britney. Spears approved of like whoever was when you know they have actual no involvement production no watches that also like the Harry and Meghan one yeah they were acting like Harry and Meghan. We're like producers or Cole Smith One. I remember watching that. I was like what trash the Meghan markle was like in the same building as the other de eh. US Open Yeah. Did you see her arm across the stadium. Yes you did you happen occupiers no but I did zoom on my instagram sky. That's that's actually the modern day but not like Banal killers and then I was like could like can cheat drink the can they drink the royal family because I was like I feel you like she's. She would like a glass of wine. I think they can but probably not in public. I'm sure she had thermos under her seat that she was attending his coffee. Yeah I love if that if she did a drag Megan markle because I feel like I would love to see a drunk Megan markle. Maybe have on the podcast all spayed and sparrow yeah. I totally do that and and then like give her a scrunchy. I've been loving your scrunchy Sochi. Okay did Jason brought you okay and Neon ones that like match waiting suits. I always try and I love it. Really the lime green one that you really like cornered the scrunchy market. I know thank you. That's a brilliant business move. I it didn't even realize at the time it was a brilliant business. Move I gen- I genuinely loves crunchies and I was like I saw Hailey Baldwin where he was like. Maybe this is the thing yeah and then they just blew blew the fuck up. Did you ever see that episode of sex in the city where she's dating Burger. I've never watched this crunchy episode. No okay so she's getting this writer. WHO's like a little less successful than her knees. I kind of bitter her jealous of her success but he's a successful Pena's own right and he writes this book about this Gal living in New York and and she reads it front to back and she loves it so much but she before it goes to print she's like but you made one huge mistake like you have this socialite running around New York in a scrunchy. That's Sashi says yeah and he gets so defensive embitter that like she's pointing out flaws in his book and he says the tons of socialites where scrunchy and they go to this New York restaurant and there's a growing scrunchy crunchy and he goes see. I told you and she says she's from New York so they ask the girl you thought I was from New York and this girl from Alabama uh-huh episode just for research. I'm going to kind of embarrassed that I haven't. I know that brought it up to you. I don't think air women in New York like end so Carrie Bradshaw was wrong about this because I fucking love a scrunch scrunchy here. There's one I think I have a HO. How chips crunchy Nah I have a whole drawer like drawer of Scroungy Angius display case in your house? I want to do a scrunchy wall. That's cute yeah and do what you know those backdrops of like doughnuts all on bags yeah. That's what I WANNA. Do I WANNA do a scrunchy wall of all my difference crunchy use one hundred percent in but I don't know where to do your house so your house is everything I remember. I literally exactly what it looks like. You did people magazine. Oh my God your office every person's dream and you record all your podcasts in there most most of them yeah. Oh my God it's everything it is my Lady's lounge and it is just a dream absolute dream. I'm obsessed with it..

"And now the low has twelve come to the low post podcasts where Jackie MacMullan made the mistake of informing me that she was in Denver, Colorado to watch the most fun of these very fun. Well, three very fun anyway second round playoff series. And I said, well, that's it. You gotta come onto podcast seven talked about this in podcast form so much. And of course, you got to see a complete blow out a night of blow outs last night. Jackie. How are you? I'm great sack. Thanks for having me on. Oh, come on. Are you kidding me? It's it's ridiculous. That you come on the stupid podcast, but we're happy to have you on. So are you having his I mean last night was not so fun because Denver just wax Portland. But this has been such a delightful it's been such a delightful series. It hasn't I just was talking to Christina. When I was in LA last week doing the jump. I said I what in I want to go, and I was my nephew's graduating shutout Christopher tone graduating from boulder on Thursday. I said I'll go in a couple of days early. Let me in on this because I feel like the Denver Nuggets are kind of like my children Zach because I was there earlier very early in the season did along peace Jamal spent a bunch of days with them and tell everybody the same thing I walked in there and four days later walked out and said, I have this is the best vibe in the NBA right now they had such a positive vibe between the coaches the players. So I'm happy for them that it's translated into this. Because it doesn't always as you know. So you wrote a wonderful profile of the Jubal Murray. So why don't we start? Why don't we start there? And it was about it was a few months ago. It was about his relationship with his father. How hardy was pushed and I'd forgotten the delightful. Details in there like his father would make him hold a perfect squat for twelve minutes and put a Cup of hot tea on top of his thigh..

"So otherwise up go check out Jackie Keishi on. Join the wind in some forward operating base that is that actually existing. I'm supposed to be going to a lot of black ops place. The idea of you tweeting like all right? I'm up for it up or base. And everybody comes to this show. And I know that like you both are in aren't doing that funny promoted the same way, you promote a show flappers Guantanamo Bay. The entire audience will be black bagged. Exactly, they just need laughs. You guys. So this is a USO thing. How does armed forces entertainment? It's the US pays poorly. Oh, so it doesn't pay as well. And to my knowledge USO gigs are in the bigger basis the armed forces entertainment. They're just like it's one. It's a triple run. It's just a one night or run. Roots rebel front is literally in a van for a bunch of it. Would you mind say, no? And I won't feel weird at all. But I would love to know like a ballpark amount of money. You get for doing a base in both. It's it's it's something like one hundred thirty four dollars a day if you're performing and then a not that if you're not performing in this only, so I'm getting I believe thirty two hundred dollars for three weeks. How which is not a lot of money. But what you get. And here's the thing. And this is this is geez. What you get out of. It is this is a captive audience. These are people, and I've, and I've told the truth I've done other ones told the troops. This is that I don't even have to be funny. I just have to be someone else. Standing there like any any story that isn't about this guy that I've been standing next for fourteen months any story that isn't about his wife is going to be a fucking win. I am going to be least. Fan for life like home. They want to go to comedy, right? Doing these these things ever since we've been at war. So the whole time. Oh, I hope keeps going on. Fun, steady work. You're a war profiteer. Exactly just a shitty. More breath. Jackie case. I call you. Call me out I'll make it boots that don't last. So but the yeah. But I like literally there just to see you. Ward. Like, I'm bringing all these games because I know a guy works, PlayStation who gave me all these PS four games because they have PS fours than a bringing a bunch of board games. And as soon as I announced it on Jackie Laurie show on the door forest. People start shipping me shit. And I was like don't also need to bring clothing, and I'm not flying delta. So I don't get free luggage. So I can only bring some bringing like it's like I was sitting forty PS four games. And then I have a brigand to car they're smaller card games mutant crops and getting their this stuff to do. So they've stuff to do. I could drop them off at their library or their MWR. The morale kind of unit area, and they could share all these games, and they can not get bored out of their minds. A friend. Twenty two servicemen service people kill themselves every day. Oh my God. I didn't hear about That's that. like gigantic. I need a huge epidemic. Twenty two a day night dinners number was that they also say that it's not even fully taking into account the full number because there's a lot of people who are basically I guess like off of the registry off like they actually like went through basic training. And then actually didn't like right never never made it or they just fell off the grid entirely. And you don't know. So it's I mean, the suicide rate is brutal. So you've got to bring these. So like, so literally the best way that I've found to get out of depression is to help someone else because it makes me stop thinking about myself. It does that priority. The committee meeting going on in my goddamn head. Yeah. Is a terrible terrible committee meeting. It is an I do my best not to read the minutes in their entirety to my husband who doesn't need to fuck in. He's like just a bullets. Please. Just tell me is there anything I could do much own..

Here's here today. So can you please tell me your order? What would you like to eat t- who had really likes him pizza? Let me to get a some do you like toppings or just cheese or week? Who is this? It's your at McDonald's. We do nor my parents are. Okay. Please pull route to the window calling the police. Did the movie right? Or will we have to fight? Hi, everybody. Welcome to bed science. I'm Ethan Edinburgh. And today, we are talking about finding Dory. A movie that I think everyone on the planet except for me has seen until yesterday. I think it made roughly sixty two cadrillion dollars. It's like the most successful film on the planet. And I have two very exciting. Guests with me today. I off a brilliant standup comedian who I absolutely adore. It's Jackie -cation. Thanks. Thanks for having me. Oh, thanks for being here. Jack been wanting on the show for a long time seeing multiple goals. I set my sights low Jackie exactly shoot for the stars. You won't miss your foot. And of course, we have here. The doctor Luis Rocha from the California academy of sciences. Thank you. Thanks for having me. Great. Did. I get that. All right. It's absolutely right. Yes. Unbelievable. Yes. Yes. So far and didn't even call out my own pup potential sticks. Okay. So first off Jackie you said, you own the film finding yes, I almost all animated films. I've seen them if this were a program about a drama. You would be in some serious trouble. But luckily, it's children's movie, and so I have seen it. Okay. Great. I didn't know you had a passion for children's. No. I have a passion to be entertained and not said, so this I mean a lot of children's films. Specially Pixar films are very sad. It's true. This one this one had had the potential. Yes. And and then we find out, and I have many questions the life span of fish fry. Anyway. You'd be surprised. I will be totally do we were talking very briefly before the podcast. And I was already surprised I mean, sometimes as we were discussing we'll have environmental scientists come on the program and the conversation can turn bleak so fast. And and so that that I think was was less involved in the film. They didn't really touch that much on plastic in the ocean. There was a little bit of it. But the the real sadness, I thought at least from the beginning of the film was going to come with these family losing her parents, right, right? And you see up are you so sad four minutes in. And I was like did that just miscarry. Yeah. What just happened? Anyway, I thought it was going to be a tear Jerker of a film. I cried during finding nemo twice. I have no problem admitting that and but this film, it was I felt like got close. But I didn't I didn't get there. I don't know how you guys felt about that. If it like made you really sad. But for me, it was just a I don't know. Is some set parts, but overall it was into light side. Definitely. Yeah. Yeah. It was. Yeah. It was. It was good in the end. And it was you know, it was one of those movies where I don't know if you ever saw homeward bound. Yeah. Said one of the dogs is missing at the end of it. And you're like, oh, it's so sad. And then it's the golden retriever, I think that might be the Irish setter. I think it's. Over the hill. And I'm like, I'm sobbing. My niece comes up. He's okay. Your shoes..

"It's like, I feel like I should talk about it because like I feel like people don't know when they when they come to my show like what's going to happen. And I feel like I was like, I didn't know what was going to happen either. But like now I'm very sad and my way like I've been on tour for six months now it's like very much a stand up show, but like people come in, they think it's time for them to hang out with their friends and talk loud and disrespectfully. And I just, I really wouldn't let you guys know like it's a standup show, so it's like you have to be quiet and you can't be on your phone so that you can't be taking pictures. And it's like, I, it's hard for a lot of twisters who like, see this is like toasters night out, but that's why there's always a supreme game and post game. It's like for the show that you're supposed to be quiet and I'm never going to be the type of performer who like you. Also people on stage, but like don't push me to that place. 'cause I might get there. I'm not gonna. Let sounding like you're on your way. I have a temper that you should be like there's a re. I don't like when people yell at people like unnecessarily, just for like if I'm whispering, some you can like whisper to your friend. You need to say something to get like being on them, not just in the first, how in the first row out? No one. It's like I like when it's still annoying, but like I love when people like no one, I'm about to say because toasters like know me. They know I'm going to say, grabs Putin. This show. Outed for it's and it's like, you know what? That's annoying put it adds to the commodity and and I don't hate it. It's like thank you for knowing what I'm about being familiar with my brand. But when it's like I'm trying to deliver premium joke and it's like, I do have to remember jokes. I want to be still like improv like, and you are having like a loud conversation that has nothing to do with me like literally in the front row like that's where you should check yourself, you know. And I really like I'm torn because I'm so grateful to everyone who comes in. I know that they're just having a good time and I never want to stop people from getting drunk. Is that the environment that I cultivate cultivate, but it's like, no, the boundary and I feel like in Cleveland, we got really close to the boundary and they didn't let it stop me and I still like was really loved. Cleveland, loved everyone and unit is about Cleveland. The people from Cleveland like they wanted me to like leave lint so much because they wanted you to like it and the at the meet and greet. People were like, do you like Cleveland? You're also self conscious like they're like what he can tell Jackie about Cleveland, like you're telling you liked it, right. I didn't even get by fine now got much because we just went straight to Jackie O right, and we couldn't even think about Cleveland, but I'm here to tell you like it's very much a place for you, and it's super cute in the. St. that the that new was on was like this. It was like a plaza. It's on a street. It's like the street was cobblestone and on every side of the street was like a bar club a comic level, then you can no cars go on it too. It was very cute with outdoor seating. Like it was very premium. How long was the fight. Like an hour. Oh, well, it's like the flight itself is an hour, but here's the thing..

"And so I think he's very, maybe hyper aware because of that. And and I do think the the Celtics are not the only because Asian, but they have really done a great job. I think the Lakers have great relationship with UCLA and of course the Dallas Mavericks they hired on Cox game. Now he's he's not a a psychologist, but he's a sports cycle. I guess he is sports psychologist, but he also, you know, he was there from the beginning and he's just a terrific. I mean, he was I really enjoyed speaking of. I heard him speak at an event summer league a couple years ago and he he's really, really impressive. He is. He's very impressive. And you know, he told me if you know, I, if I can handle what I think that you know they're dealing with, you know, positive self, talk visualization. So that's one thing he said, if they're dealing with bipolar, something else, you know, we have a referral service all the way through the Dallas Fort Worth area. I don't try to take that on. I get them, you know he. So he's not a guy that's trying to say he has all the answers. And so those kind of people, they've been at this a while and you know it was interesting to for done Cox because he was saying, you know, in the beginning, I was just trying to make guys understand like here's what we're trying to do because they didn't even understand that. 'cause he was from Mars. Nobody had a sports psychologist. What does that and you know Adam silver makes a joke in the story about how? Yeah, we used to call him the shooting coach because if you said, well, I'm having trouble focusing or feeling with success or failure, and you say, oh yeah, the shooting coaches helped me. That's okay. But if you say, yeah, the sports that causes is helped me. Everyone's like, oh, what like you're crazy or something, you know. So so the language of this whole thing, mental wellness is opposed to mental health mental illness? Like, I don't believe I wrote that anywhere in all five parts because no. Nobody wants to hear that there's such a negative stigma attached to that and Kevin zone the top that you know we're shooting for mental wellness mental health. So it's interesting and little things like the language of it, you would think wouldn't be a big deal, but it is. It is to these guys, Jackie, how much better prepared do you think the NBA will be? Let's say it's two thousand twenty two in high school players come back in. I think we're all confident its head right outweigh two thousand twenty two seems now to be they thought two thousand twenty one. And now the sense we get is it won't be before twenty two, how much better prepared Lee will be to handle teenagers. That one year does make a difference then when the last time the high school players could come in yet much more. Yeah, they were in Vegas, Tracy Murray who guys probably remember, played at UCLA was also in the NBA. He was in Las Vegas talking to all those rookies about mental health and how to, you know, be able to talk about things and share things, and some. Is that transition program? Mental health is part of that. You know, Adam, silver again, the junior NBA the NBA fit program. You know, he came to an fifty, the smart guys, we know came to an pithy and said, well, we're, we're dealing very comprehensively with fitness in the physical fitness, but we haven't really taken, you know, the players, the whole, the holistic view. And so they've made those changes now. So you know the NBA's all over this and so is the players union. And it's been a collaborative effort and they're not always on, you know, hundred percent on the same page. But I think they both have the same ideas and interests and they know the numbers to, you know, John Lucas said to me, he estimates forty percent at least forty percent of MBA players have mental health issues. You know, I talked to different people that said, oh, it's more it's more than that. And I think the league knows that. And I think the players union that one of the things that it, it'll always be a challenge in its part of Intel gathering by teams when they're drafting a player or training for a player or. Committing to sign a player to a long term deal. They want access to this information..
