Elon Musk Bid for Twitter Ruffles Markets

"It's going to be a wild ride on Wall Street for Twitter today. Elon Musk making an offer for Twitter to take it private. He's just going to buy the whole thing. And I don't know what Twitter will do. I don't know what Jack will do. I don't have any idea, but Elon Musk loves to make a stir. I think he's going to buy CNN plus. Maybe they'll just throw that in for the Twitter deal. But yesterday was already a good day on the market. The Dow was up 344 the S&P is up 49, the NASDAQ was up 272. This morning, the ten year treasury dropped a little bit to 2.687%.

Tampa bay you messed up on less tackle daniel jones. I think he's looking great. He has josh allen traits. He's mobile in the quarterback. He's a dog. he's moving the pocket. He's a door for at quarterback he can ronnie sold. He's got a great army through two times various. Lighten fighting. drop a free touchdown. That wasn't on him. he good last night. Another thing i'm gonna point to. I hate to go there. But when you hire joe judge over aired be enemy looked like he was more than qualified to be a great head coach. That's on the gm. They still look like they're trying to Replace odell beckham. these are all day. Get them in moves. So you can't put it on anybody but david get them in. I like saquon. I just think they haven't put the right talent around on the office of line. I do know get. Yeah i mean gettleman is the guy was put this all together and you know like like if we had the same show chris coming off a week one. I don't know you would be as high on daniel jones because he played well last night. So i get that while you feel better about him today but overall it has been a work in progress and he can't hold onto the football. We know that well you four. He's half four games in his last seven where he had no turnovers that's interception or interceptions or fumbles so that shows growth era. What you want to see from jones even if they're losing games as you want to see him play well consistently yeah because who just shipped out of new york right. He had his moments. F- flash everybody has moments then. Sam darnold play well against the jets in the opener. Dwight carolina's wanna know as you move forward right brandon in dallas. Yeah but i think the The the previous caller hit on the head man. I think it is almost kind of similar to what the cowboys are going through for the past couple of decades. But it's a it's a issue from the top down you know from ownership to general manager. You know the casual fan really shouldn't even be able to know your general manager by name but yet cattleman keeps being in the headline. I i mean maybe you say casual fan but gm's are out there ownership. I generally date don't needs to know. They hired guys like ben mcadoo and pat shurmur championship triumph. It's just that these are some bad hires and chris. You've talked about this. Thanks brandon and combat draft picks. Yeah both of them. But but like. I think you mentioned like joe judge was like i don't even know he was never coordinate games guy and.

"jack willis" Discussed on GSMC Football Podcast

"I'm your host y. Krieger back for my second segment of today's show and we are going over the craziness from week one of the nfl season. I mean what slate of games and there was no bigger surprise than the saints beating the packers beatings. Even the right word. Dismantling the packers embarrassing the packers. Thirty eight to three. I mean what the heck what. The heck was that aaron rodgers. What the heck was that. All of the off season drama the hold out missing valuable time with your offense in building chemistry. That's the result against a really good defense. Like the saints might add. But i mean that was brutal. One hundred thirty eight yards from aaron rodgers. Fifteen of twenty eight passing two interceptions too bad interceptions. And here's the craziest step. Aaron rodgers threw it in the dirt. If he just threw the ball on the ground every single snap that he took he would still have a better pass rating than the thirty six. Point eight passer rating. That he had just shocking. I mean less than two hundred fifty yards of total offense. They need to bounce back for the lions or else there will be serious concerns about How truly interested. Aaron rodgers is in succeeding for the packers this year. But i tend to think that they are fine. I don't think i think there's a lot of reaction's going on. I mean that saints defense is incredible. They are very defense. They can do that to any offense in the nfl. I think besides the chiefs. And i mean marshon. Lattimore was flying safety. Marcus williams was flying. The front seven was getting pressure. That's a really really good team in the saints. And we've seen aaron rodgers like last year. We saw him have really bad performances. I think last year he had to pick sixes against the buccaneers and it was a very similar score to this one and then we saw rogers to continue to go on and have an mvp year. So look i think he's gonna be fine. I think we there's always little rust pack. An roger didn't play at all in the preseason didn't play for a lot of training camp so he still knocking the rust off. I think they'll be fine. And they have a great bounceback opportunity Lines the bigger story. I think is just how wrong. Everyone was about james winston. I mean this is what we saw. We saw a quarterback who can drive the ball down the field and when he doesn't make mistakes so when he was very fundamental as good. Footwork was mobile mobile than drew brees and could still still running for first downs. I mean just water performance the most touchdowns ever than someone with less than hundred fifty yards one hundred forty eight yards but still did what he had to do. He spread the ball around. He was great in the red zone. He found john. Johnson chris hogan dion onto harris and chimera four touchdowns jordan johnson. Head to fourteen of twenty. And the most important thing. No turnovers for james and. i think that's telling. I think that's a lot because the packers still have a good defensive unit a lot of talent on that side of the ball and jameis winston to put out the performance that he did is just very special very special. I mean champagne is just such a good coach and the big question was that it was if jameis winston or if sean payton coach those turnovers out of james winston and i think he can't if there was any quarterback coach could it be sean payton because he said for the season he said In my offense the corvette doesn't turn the ball over so great signs from new orleans. It's great to see That performance from them not being able to play in the superdome because of hurricane ida going through the obstacles they had to go through relocating for practice practicing in the dallas practice facilities but yet jameis winston great for him so happy to see jameis winston back. Nfl's better jameis. winston is playing that. That's just a fact and look at the saints team they are they're going to be super bowl. Contenders truly think that the way that defenses. I know we have a lot. More to see from james winston down the stretch of this year. But that's that might be a hot take. But i just think they're rosters so good getting michael thomas back to everyone's bought in alvin kamara. I'm chimera that offensive. Line is so good defensive. Line is so good. They're good at all three levels. And i think they'll be be a playoff team in. I think they'll be in that final four of the nfc teams at least so the next game look at was the best game. I think of the entire sleet. Maybe the second best game behind the raiders game just because of all the excitement down the stretch but the chiefs are still. The chiefs chiefs are still the kansas city chiefs and although the browns jumped out to a huge lead they looked dominant. They really took it to them. There's just no lead. That is safe against patrick mahomes. I mean it's ridiculous. How we almost expect it when he goes down to three scores. How we just expect him to perform to be there. They're always gonna have a chance in every game they play. It's ridiculous because the browns they come out dominant. They jump out to twenty ten lead the running the ball play calls fantastic but then patrick mahomes happens and you have tyreek hill. Making the plays that he has. I think i'm really starting to think. Terry kill is the best receiver in the nfl. He really is he. There's no no player. I've ever seen put more pressure on defense in and be more of a threat on the field. And he given moment that he is and you saw the the the chiefs needed drive and they drop the patrick mahomes scramble around. Chuck it seventy five yards for touchdown to tyreek hill play and mahomes three touchdowns during the three seven yards. Kelsey two touchdowns. Just it's just ridiculous. What what they're able to do they really play like backyard football. It's it's like they play backyard football at the highest level and look. I think we learned the browns are very good team. I think that any given sunday in the playoffs. The browns could come out of kansas city with the win. Although it'll be hard we've seen how hard it is to do that. But they are very very good. They're going to be. I really think they're going to win that. Nfc north division. They're fantastic on both fronts. Offense winding suffered. The injury to jack willis but their offensive and defensive under still really good secondary things going to be better this year. But just sometimes there's nothing you can do against a patchwork homes led team And they were really taking it to the chiefs. I think that means something. Because you just don't see that happen that all all too often And i think the browns will face again down the stretch this season because every time those teams play it is absolute must watch football and i wanna see them again because the browns. They're very good team and they will be fine. The eagles into atlanta and came out with a thirty two to six. Win against the falcons. The eagles i wasn't expecting that. I thought the falcons will put a points. I was expecting a shootout but this eagles defence impressed me a lot of very impressed by eagles as a whole and i don't know which one it is. More the falcons absolute terrible. The falcons were awful. That was wendy worst performances of the weekend by team draft a tight end with the fourth overall..

You Can't Handle the (Scientific) Truth!

"I am in the very fortunate position of being able to set the scene for tonight's debate and that's actually very easy. Because the scientific truth is forty-two diet nari according to date thought a supercomputer in douglas adams's hitchhikers guide to the galaxy that spent seven and a half million years competing the answer to the ultimate question of life the universe and everything the answer to that question and therefore the ultimate scientific truth is forty two so i mean i think we don russ semi point obvious. Is that often. The truth is not very helpful tight. The ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. That's mathematical constant. It's a scientific truth. And when it's expressed in decimal form it has an infinite number of decimal places but but the question is actually how are an infinite number of decimal places useful to us an approximation of twenty two seven three point. One pfoa is what we can actually use in practice. We don't need a want the truth. We want something we can apply to achieve what we need to solve problems to build things to ensure the well being of our children so tonight ice with my esteemed colleagues greta and jack we will convince you that the scientific truth is not helpful to humanity particularly now and arguably more than any other time in human history. The truth is not useful for tackling the global challenges that we currently face. Greta will show you how without optimism and hype in our scientific messaging about climate change. People retreat from the truth. They feel disempowered and helpless. Jack will round out argument by showing how the relationship between science and society is changing

Trump is to his villa on no doubt He will probably go then payout like last couple of seasons. maybe all. that's open to him. So i think that is absolutely brilliant. I love that and now we can get into like the exciting stuff. Why dated the smart thing and maybe because it will. Parties were singing from the same hymn sheet. They've managed to amass a when dea who is favourite yours was he just your favorite miana. He probably is my favorite emiliano but he is definitely a favorite player as well absolutely loved him in arch's relegation season. Place that yeah. There's a place that stood out as being really really great and not remember defendant daniel farka because they were ahead of schedule. They shouldn't have come up when they shouldn't have but it was not what they planned for but they ended up winning the championship. Coming up on. It was clear it just wasn't the right time for them and they weren't ready for it but they've stuck to the plan and really like that about them And of them later got onto. Wendy a- was one of the stunned that plays in struggling side and then he really showed his quality as one of just an amazing chance creator. Yeah so he just stands out with someone for me. That is a fantastic player and will not necessarily be the new jack relish. But he will be able to do a lot of things for this team. That you lose with jack i think for sure i'm really excited super super swift and smart move They've also bagged there. She young on free to go back like to To when he was comprising villa And and liam bailey. A million coveted. Leon bailey in my luck. Fantasy world of joe gets to sign any place that he wants to talk them for years and now aston villa which relates what. Where do you think about the baby signing. Just the first thing that comes to mind is like just wash in the olympics or the jamaican sprinters. Liam bailey is so fast. Wait to see the first time in a friendly way gets like thirty yards. Just open up against an old leftback like someone burn. Goddamn me just trying to yeah exotic new factories horribly wrong. I think there's gonna be some real fun. We've liked wendy lian on chances for him and bailey as well with danny ings. He's really sharp really again. Like oh been linked with danny ings. Ten minutes later villarosa down rings. It's just insane the way they've gone about their businesses fantastic and follow Dumbo did a great job. "This is anything is possible I'm Jeff Krystal let's roll with Palmer hall ski as a young kid no we wanted to be a lawyer went to Harvard got a law degree and as a young kid decided I'm going to work for this law firm New York City called Craven Swaine and Moore arguably the most prestigious law firm in New York City and Paul but we want to work for you there for twenty two years you become a partner I wasn't you know everything you wanted to do and you did it you know Jack I wish I knew I I just know that it's eight years old for some reason I wanted to be a lawyer I didn't know any lawyers we had no lawyers in the family no one in my family had gone to college I just had this in me that I wanted to be a lawyer and I knew it eight years old but I wanted to go to Harvard College and Harvard Law School I think probably just because I had read or heard somewhere that they were the best and I want to strive for the best the one of my favorite songs as a kid was impossible dream from Don Quixote from the man of La Mancha and so that was my dream and I just focused focused myself on that and then when I was about thirteen my father as I mentioned I had worked and I worked in a factory and he had shared with the owner of the factory who was a man named Mister speaker from New Jersey third with them that I want to go to law school so one day my dad came home with a pilot that cruelly fax paper and it was an article that Mister speaker the owner of the company and get them to him because he knew I wanted a law school and had a list of the various law schools in America and I thought that was interesting but I already knew what I wanted to go to law school interleave was actually a list that said it was about the top law firms in America and I read that and it said any survey the top law firms in America has to start with New York and any survey of the top law firms in New York can only begin with grass lane and more and so it's thirteen I said well that would be the place I'd like to work after I get out of Harvard and Harvard Law School I don't know where those things came from all right within seven years you're a partner no doubt your own in over a million Bucks a year you've got a beautiful wife Lisa family it's a fairy tale life and then on October fourth two thousand and three god knocked on the door what happened well Jack and it was October fifth you didn't knock on the door he walked me over the head so I think knocking on the door would have never gotten my attention that day we went to church and I reached out to take my wife's hand and she called in a way which I thought was on that night we took the kids into bed and and I said to her I said honey you know church today when I reach to take your hand you pulled away is something wrong and her words were simply I don't know where to start I'm not happy and I can't go on like this and I knew in that moment that this was something much bigger than just those words were I had no idea how unhappy she was in fact I was so clueless as a husband that she had a mode made the conscious decision to emotionally check out of our marriage several months earlier and I didn't have a clue and it was a real it was a real awakening to me I mean I had my priorities Jack completely upside down I came to realize if you would ask me at the time you know what your priorities in life I would've said work was number one because I grew up believing if you were a good provider you are by definition a good husband a good father and I was doing really well in that category second would have been my kids because whatever time was left from from work that is really my wife would want them to have that time if there was anything left she was third in that priority list and god was nowhere to be found really and what I came to understand was it was completely upside down thank god had to be first my wife deserved to be second the children and work down below that and that if god was first he wanted me to actually succeed at all but it was a wake up call I called almost he now you believe that you've been on a fifty year journey to understand the why of work and part of that understanding was that you learned about New Canaan society tell us about NCS Paul I will Jack Willis yes was what god used after he hit me over the head and sent me into a state of shock I did something that I had I had never really done for a long long time and that's cried out to god to help me and through a series of coincidences over the next two weeks I actually don't believe in coincidences and put those in quotes we were conceding there sure is a coincidence I ended up with this home in New Canaan Connecticut and where there were two hundred men in the living room of this home and I started to learn about Jesus and about his promises about who god was and what I'm who I was meant to be as a husband as a father and as a leader and the New Canaan society was started really is a small group of of eight man back in nineteen ninety five not really intended to grow much beyond that and it was all about men just coming together to share their lives and it was about going deeper and friendship with each other in different friendship with Jesus but doing it without religiosity and doing in a place for man could actually be authentic and be transparent and it grew it had grown to two hundred man within those those three years it is since grown to sixty chapters across the United States and all organically all just men where they are realizing that men in their community need a place where they can take their masks off they can find real friendship and and I have people who have their back if you.

"Getting really complicated with trade start happening. I could do trades at. It's the issue and we're going to. I think we're GONNA see a lot of trades in this draft and we're gonNA see a really good amount so boy I cannot wait one because like you said just the itself that sports just something and to just for the disaster factor. It's it's got disaster. It dull over. I can't wait. It's also probably my favorite twitter night of the year. Yes a lot of old guy. Yeah Hotel to its come out with the players saying ridiculous things I don't know maybe they're maybe they've already gotten smarter. And they're they're deleting things but those are always pretty funny when they have like. I don't know something stupid. They said when they're fourteen and just like playing with friends whatever not like none of their racist stuff like that. But the the John Wilson or Mitch. Trubisky has probably the Mitch trubisky draft Knighton Attractive. And the first thing that comes out is like a tweet. News like fifteen years old saying I love kissing titties. That was pretty cool so looking forward to seeing some more things like that. Do we think that good? Roger Goodell will address the lack of booing situation happening. Yes absolutely to actually use usually has a pretty good line for that every year. I'll enjoy he does that He's mentioned something so yes free. Awesome one thing do care about during the NFL drafts. I don't really care about the secondary or whatever's happening off the line for somebody. Do Care about the quarterbacks. Yes quarterbacks are whatever we cares about see most important position in all of sports and I swear to God and I swear to God. I'm swearing to God here here. We swear to God I sure do it but if he hears it too if Justin Herbert gets picked ahead of two or tongue of Iowa I'm GonNa Freak out he's going to. I don't know what I'm going to do. He's going to but I'm going to freak out he's going to. There is not one moment watching watching Justin. Herbert last four years seen in college three years. I don't even know however long it's been I'd never seen him play. Man Guy is something special like he's somebody that I can definitely see turning around and NFL FRANCHISE. Yeah with two. I've done that several times. Like Holy Hell. What a pass. That was that's awesome. Tell with the injuries to talk of. Ella was so much better than just not even close to is the ultimate boomer bus guy. I think he's going to just because of the injury history like you mentioned but man literally for the second. I stepped on the field in for INFOR- JALEN HURTS I. It was lights. Remember too big. The moment was never too big all the talent in the world and yeah. I'm with you like sure. Justin Herbert doesn't have the injury history. But I mean come on the way to plays football and just throw the football as football intelligence. I should say is pretty high. I know he did score to hire the Wunderlich actually was really bad on the Wunderlich. But I'd take with a grain of salt because you know fits. Magic got a really high one score needs bet on like every thirty all thirty two. Nfl team so. I really WANNA see tour in those new charger uniforms. Those are pretty and they got a chance to take them and a Miami might be looking at them too so I don't know yeah. I'm excited to see what happens there. Yeah one thing. I saw of the NFL draft prop bets And there was one out there that just just put me into a sad depressing mood. Yeah one of the prophets was who will have more first round picks Alabama or the big ten. Ou know see Obama's got three for sure. Maybe four or five for sure to Jerry Judy. Henry Rugs Jack Willis offensive tackle and I think they got a linebacker. That's that's pretty high on people's boards. If I remember right see I think five was the over under it was well? It was either GonNa have more. Who's GonNa who's GonNa more Alabama the big ten I would say the big ten speaking of big then. Yeah you see that Job The deal has got a lifetime. Deal with toppers. "Come down to kind of preference at this point between borough and a Herbert has arisen because there is a need for quarterbacks I i. don't know that I agree with Joel that he would take him in the second rounds, but I think he is being a little bit overvalued because of the need for quarterbacks in the draft, but as far as the to to borough a winning comparison. I understand what he's saying. There's more tape onto a playing at that level so I get that, but the things that people hold against borough. They don't hold against to which I find to be very strange like to AF-. Plays for Alabama. WHO which I don't understand went all of a sudden to elevated Bama program to always good day one. Herbert couldn't job at Ohio. State wasn't code borough wasn't good at Ohio state he he couldn't be out. J., T. Barrett, or the Wayne Haskins, and by the way he goes Lsu. You want very good as a junior. Whereas to the first time he came into a game Georgia, he won the National Championship. He was like great at nineteen years old. In the national championship, but to also had Alabama players around him I mean we've looked at Lsu as premier program now because they just won the national, championship. They had the same level of player. They had good players. Yes, but if you're looking at these recruits, and what they star rated recruits, four or five star rated recruits, it's not like Lsu had the same exact level of players that Alabama did. They burrow elevate that program, and I understand that it's it's not a giant sample size, but they beat the best teams. He had the greatest statistical season of anyone who's ever played that position, and and they won the national championship. He was amazing in it. So this idea that he's not like a winner is very strange to me. When to a is winning with an Alabama roster. Yeah, but I think Lsu did have the players. They just got a year older. I mean he had all the lsu players. It's not like they took transfers. All those players are when he was a junior. The highest graded player on Alabama's offensive lines Jack Willis curious. With neighboring number three lsu number thirty is the highest grade player on the offensive line. All I'm saying is. LSU is a national power now they are. Talking about them as winning the championship, it was between Clemson and Alabama before the season started. Yeah, but I mean Lsu was again. LSU's a national power. Like when I look at recruiting Lsu's ores got gotta top seven class. I'm nothing. There's some scrubs I'm just saying. They hold that against Joe Borough that he played great players, and it's not held against two, and it doesn't make any sense to me. It is I. Think I actually I think when I talked to people. One of the questions they wonder about to is. What's he going to be like in crisis? Because Alabama's rarely in crisis that part you know what I really felt for two because I was doubting he's small. He's not that athletic. When he went and played on one leg against Lsu, and it was great I was just like. He was he was a warrior. That game I agree with you, he he he.

"Bunch of people just went like what and then some guy wrote dude we can. We can hear you. We can hear you. Yes we have a rule in radio here that even when the mics are off. You don't say anything because you just never know you just never know man and again no excuse for that type of word that type of behavior. But it's like I've always said this before if you say that kind of stuff in your in the privacy of your own home then you're probably maybe that kind of person I don't know ultimately it's like the like the Donald Sterling thing. People were mad because well that was the privacy of his own home and he said all those terrible things. You can't do that. I'm like yeah. But he was married to like a girl who was like forty years fifty years younger than him and was out to get something and it doesn't erase the things that he said and the bad things that he said and it doesn't respect out there. You gotta be responsible for your own actions folks so yeah it's a it's a tough situation for sure. A lot tougher for those people that had to hear that first event text line three one nine nine six three one nine nine six. I think the Broncos are really looking to two thousand and fifteen now. I'm hearing all this. That they might possibly move up from number fifteen in the first round. A lot of people are talking about that there. There's some legitimate talks at the broncos are going to try to get aggressive here and move up to maybe as high as A number nine or something along those lines but I maybe you know again. They're going to be looking at offensive lineman if they do that. Which would shock the hell out of me and I guess that's the only way to do it. But what are you going to give up? What is the price to move up that many spots? It's GonNa have to give quite a bit. You're going to have to give quite a bit to do that. And I think the Broncos can get exactly what they need at fifteen because I don't see Fulton moving past fifteen. I don't see Henderson. Moving past fifteen so you have your corners there. I do like Fulton a lot more. Who had kind of an up and down nineteen but all the projections. You read on this guy and you watch on this guy. All the specialists that have studied this guy say that that trajectory is going to go up. Big Time should go up. Big Time Even as soon as his rookie season Henderson Guy. You gotTa Watch out for. He could be good. He could be electric but they do worry about his growth. Is that a guy that's going to quickly take on that number to rule or is he going to be better fit to be a nickel dime. So that's why I'm liking Fulton. But if the broncos move up and that's to me definitely means they're not going to be looking at a cornerback. Because I mean they could be. You Have Jeff Okudu out of Ohio State whose projected to go in the top five. So maybe but I. I don't see that the broncos getting that aggressive and most mock drafts when you look at least those top. Five five picks could see him going early. Some could see him going as early as three. You know even for the Detroit Lions because they traded Darius slay so they're going to be looking for another shutdown cornerback overall so. I don't think guys there so I to me. That means they're moving all the way up to look at an offensive lineman potentially a linebacker. Isiah Simmons is there but he's projected to go. He's another guy that's projected to go. Pretty High I mean I've seen a lot of the giants. Don't WANNA fifteen. So if the broncos do this if they really do move up that means. They're looking at an offensive lineman at this stage in my prediction would be way off. You go no corner you go offense then you off the top four Tristan. Worse Jack Willis Andrew Thomas and back then they must believe that those guys aren't going to be there and we thought that I thought for sure Thomas won't be there Willis won't be there then. It's kind of start to be a crap shoot outside of that. And maybe Becton's there he's floating toward that ten seventeen spot. Probably so the BRONCOS WANNA make sure they can move up and get him. That's where they'd go but a lot of the rumors. Denver Post reporting on it Several bleacher report. Saying maybe the broncos are very interested in it again. You hear this a lot. This is also a lot of posturing to teams do this. We're moving up. We're exciting. Because then he then you get teams to make sure that they take those offensive linemen that they didn't think were there. This is all a game still so I'll believe it when I see it. I'm sticking with my pick forty seven minutes after after the hour. We're GONNA take a quick break here. Let's wrap up this whole show powered by energy. I have room for a few more. Texts will crown the ultimate winner today. This K Mak poll ahead of the pack and get number six. Do we have a surprise swoop in here amongst the whole against we'll be right back. Get.

"Scheduled fund raiser in Florida now the vice president's office I insist that he can do both but he's also going to be leading a task force this afternoon he's also going to be heavily involved and that there is a balance between being in charge of this crisis and not making it look like it there should be extra panic but we all remember what has happened in recent history with presidents and politicians who have kind of gone about their business and it's come back to bite them well I wonder what he could be doing later today why here's at CNN they're trying to tell you that pence cannot walk and chew gum at the same time that he can't go to a fund raiser whatever fundraisers and forty can go to the end run the task force at the same time because we all we all know Republican presidents who've been caught up trying to do this in the past and you know what they bring out there bring out George W. bush on nine eleven he's down in Florida and he's reading books about ducks to four year olds kindergarten or whatever and if somebody comes in and whispers into his ear that the world trade center's non attacks so he has to act like nothing's happened and buttoned up zip it up and get out of there in later in the day Peter Jennings ABC's world news tonight says you know some presidents are just good at this and someone and they said Bill Clinton was a master so this is what they're talking about that Mike pence he can't do a fundraiser in run the task force at the same time will she say we all remember what is happening in recent history with presidents and politicians have kind of gone about their business and it's come back to bite them I wonder what he could be doing with as I say folks to tug it might be a great day to go to the apple TV app store and download the new Rush Limbaugh app third don't search for Russia's as a bunch of apps with the Russian I just search for Rush Limbaugh joining it'll pop up and against free just download it it's an in app purchase totally up to you whether or not you wish now here's trump inevitability this was Wednesday night at the press conference and it is over here yeah what is the N. B. C. M. Palmeira Halle jacks I watched her you know she sits in the front row of the NBC people have front row these things look bored silly just look more not because you know she knows that that jobs the next step is the today show so whenever they get tired of Savannah Guthrie the farm her out to the nine or ten o'clock hour you know move Halle Jack Willis how NBC doesn't I mean that's that's the career path you're going to laugh at me and all you want to tell him to Katie Couric look at this is how it happens and that's how they look all these women to go work for cable another in beef you could be on the today show instead of ten really yeah so anyway she's white Oscar she's looking bored as she can because she hates trump anyway and when it got time to ask a question you know Mr president you have just contradicted everything everyone your medical experts behind your husband say.

"He was known as the conservation president but love to hunt he was a rough rider although he was kind of small in stature with some bad eyesight he was a trust buster but also to the manor born he's remembered as teddy though he preferred theodore and to add the contradictions he was born and raised here in new york city but a new book chronicles how it was the wild west that made the man not the east side of manhattan where he was born author and historian michael blake's book the cowboy president the american west and the making of theodore roosevelt unpack the influential time roosevelt spent in the dakota territory now he became the president etched on mount mushroom more rushmore michael welcome all of it thank you for having me well so interesting week because of this one hundred year marker we a lot lot of there are a lot of books about theodore roosevelt out there right now but you're stood out to us because there were three years you spent tracing every step roosevelt took you went horseback riding cattle hurting forging rivers why was this important to your writing process well i knew louis l'amour the author and louis always believed that if you're going to write about a place you have to see the land from that point of view you have to experience it you can't just look it up in a book and write about it you have to be part of the land and i totally understood what he said and in order to talk about that area and what it meant to see it or and the impression it made you had to be there you have to be have boots on the ground so to speak you know it's it's like there's a a portion of the book where we talk about there's a thing called ben clay which is a bluish gray clay and when it's dry it looks like popcorn but when it gets wet it becomes real sticky and gumbo like and gelatin like and one time when i was going through the national park with my wife on many of my trips there i saw some on the side of the road and stop the car hopped out and stuck my hands in the mud to feel what it was like to get an idea and of course probably because my mom never let me play in the mud one when i was a kid i i wanted to feel what it was like i had heard about it but you know you have an opportunity to see it and she'll what it was like and how it stuck to everything it gives you it just gives a writer more gravitas when you're talking about something if you if you really can know what what you're writing about and talking about you have an incredibly interesting background yourself you're the author of seven books but your child actor you're the son of a well known character actor larry blake you are an emmy award winning makeup artists in hollywood when and how did you develop this commitment to researching theodore roosevelt well i was a cowboy crazy kid of eight and not much as changed except the price of the toys and my mom and dad gave me a photo illustrated book of presidents and of course i knew washington and i knew about lincoln because of my interest in the civil war is kid but i was really disappointed that all the presidents during the american west period every photo you see them there in top hats frock coats not one of them on a cowboy horse with saddle and hat and i turn the page and as i slide say the heavens opened up the mormon tabernacle choir saying how alluvia and here's this photo of theodore in his buckskin clothing his hat his gun on his hip standing next to his horse manitou and the caption said something to the effect of theodore roosevelt was dakota cowboy and i said that that's my kind of idea president and that's when he became my favorite president and then of course as i got older and i read more and more about the man he just astounded me every day what this man did with his life and sixty short years when did he first head out west and why well i went out west in eighteen eighty three to hunt buffalo and he had horrible luck trying to hunt buffalo they couldn't find any because by then in the area the dakotas the buffalo had disappeared to well below a hundred and anyway one night they're they're out with he's out with his guide and they have nowhere to camp so they set up camp in the middle of nowhere and tie the horses to their saddle and the horses got spooked and yanked the samples out from underneath them and he they had to find the horses they get back get into sleep and it starts raining and within minutes he's he's seated in about four inches of water and his guide figures all this guy is never gonna wanna stay doing this until you to return to them and said by god for you since this fun and he got his first buffalo which the buffalo head is still on display at sag more hill and he got interested into cavill industry at the same time and he bought a ranch there the maltese cross ranch and he came back as a cattle owner he wanted he wanted to live the life of a cowboy one of the things people need to understand about the or is he was a romance assist not just in the terms of a man and a woman which he was but he had one foot in the nineteenth century and then he also had his other foot firmly planted in the beginning of the twentieth century but he longed to be a cowboy he wanted to be a cowboy that's why in later life you societa themself with back masterson and set bullet and other well-known western Figures. So when you mentioned that he went out to, to shoot a buffalo, and that he was a romantic. How was he received by the people who are living out there, working the land, hard working folks guy comes from the east coast with these romantic ideas? well first off theodore had glasses he was horribly horribly nearside couldn't see more than eight feet ahead of them without the glasses and he had a very high voice some described it as a squeak and you know he dressed in buckskins which was not the traditional garb of a working cowboy but it was his idea because daniel boone and davy crockett whereas childhood heroes and everybody thought oh my god it's another eastern dude and they used to call them storm windows because of his his glasses and then one night he had been out looking for stray cavill and he wind up staying in a little ramshackle two story building in mingas ville montana and the drunken cowboy was there and he was shooting up the place and just being a complete pain in the neck and he spots theodore when he walks with his glasses and says four is is going to treat and theodore tried to avoid them and he kept bothering theodore and feeder always said if it's all possible never getting involved in the fight but if you do get involved in the fight put your opponent to sleep so he said well if i've got to i've got to through the table aside and he hit the man with a sharp right left right jab the man went down hit his head on the bar knocked himself unconscious they locked him up in a smoke house and the next morning the guy disappeared on freight train no idea who he was but the story got around and after that everyone all the locals called mr roosevelt my guest is michael blake he's written a book called the cowboy president the american west and the making of theodore roosevelt so just to give people a sense of how different his life was out there growing up what was the res- about like before this epic western period was a trial privilege his father help start the on american natural history museum in new york city was quite a philanthropist he was he he was self taught south educated by tutors and that he led a very privileged life he was he was the roosevelt's go back to seven generations in new york so he was certainly a new york blue blood you know the parents took the family on a trip to europe when he was when he was just about twelve now and he saw the site so he's certainly had a very in many ways sheltered but very well to do lifestyle which was totally opposite what he did when he went out west You know, you write something, very interesting about him and his life. And the way he went through life. You wrote Theodore's tendency to completely ignore something that was painful to him would become very obvious in two decades, one, why did he do this idea of knowing something, very painful? And he I mean the way we're talking about the death of his wife, right? on just imagine you're you're you're new york simply men you go up to two albany to see a bill through your wife is about to give birth he gets a telegram you're now a father everyone's congratulating and pats on the back and within two hours to get another telegram come home quickly and he's greeted up front door the home by his brother elliott who says there's a curse on this house mother is dying and so is alice and this is on both he loses within hours his mother and his wife on valentine's day sent him into a total spiral people actually relatives out really thought he was going to go crazy because he was so overcome with grief so feed or had a mechanism in that he would literally shut things off and not discuss it for instance in his autobiography he never mentioned his first wife alice at all when he leaves the presidency he goes to africa to be as far away from anything as possible so he doesn't hear what's going on which didn't really have because letters finally caught up to him and he found out how disappointing present taff was who was his hand picked successor so he would do this it was it was a way of him a self preservation actually that that's the way it was a coping mechanism and that's how he managed to get through life let's talk about two of the biggest contradictions of the roosevelt within the interest val the environment so he's known as this conservation president led to thirty million acres of public land he wrote this this is from your book it is also vandalism wantonly destroy permit the destruction of what is beautiful in nature whether it be a cliff a forest species of mammal or bird but then he was this avid hunter you said he could instantly stab a bird sanctuary with A swipe of the pen, yet, go out and shoot. A bird. one was he aware of this this contradiction oh very much so but he never you you have to you have to go back and look at times and at that time hunting was a rite of passage for young men and he he hunted when he was out west he only haunted basically for four food like if he did hunt down wrong horn antelopes he he hunted them for food he hunted one he hunted for food and then took the head as a a trophy but he was never one to over hunt and he he really despises people who just hunted just for the hides and things like that and actually one fellow jack willis have been doing that and he convinced them to give it up so he was he was very much hunter but he was also very much aware of everything he he wanted when he went to africa he he hunted a lot of animals because you have to remember back then most cities did not have zoos the he was one of the founders of the bronx zoo in new york city so he went on behalf of the smithsonian institute which they then you know mounted these animals so people could see in a museum because we didn't have the zoos and the nature parks like we do now and he he really it's contradictory about him but he never was excessive in his hunting he never just simply went out and wantonly killed animals there was always a purpose mainly for food and then for scientific study and then the other contradiction him that is about race so he was a fierce opponent of slavery he regarded as a sin but he was.

Taking a Visit to Essex County

"Device that you're listening to. When I review something on the show, I'm commenting on it because I like it and I want you to take a look as well. I try not to criticize or rant because there's enough out there already. I try to stay positive. I stick to the old adage that your mom or grandma probably told you if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. And today's no exception. I recently read Essex County by Jeff Lemere Jeff tells a complex story with simple black and white art. He can do that because the setting takes place in his childhood home. He tells three separate stories that are loosely connected. So here's a solicit. Where does young boy turn when his whole world is suddenly disappears? What turns two brothers from an unstoppable team into a pair of bitterly estranged loners? How does the simple hearted care of one middle age nurse reveal the scars of an entire community and can anything heal the wounds caused by a century of deception. Now I'm more of a superhero fantasy. Fan, but this one had me turning the pages to find out what happened next. My personal favorite was the second story about the two brothers and the falling out that they had because of the simple art. It showcases, the ability Jeff has Intelink story. This came out in two thousand nine has been in has been put into a collection with extra art and stories. I'll put the Lincoln the show notes. He can take a look in by it if you want to. I do recommend this one though. The next one is Knin Jack versus the valiant universe. This is a what I would call a fun popcorn type of book. It reminds me of the old x men versus the fantastic four back in the eighties. It's a story. You can tell that was put together on purpose by the publisher to appeal to a large readership. So you get the Naan Jack readers to read maybe unity or x. men a war to read in Jack and and on and on the reader knows it. But in this case, it's still a fun story to read. I guess you could say, I succumb to the marketing boys. Here's a solicit calling king Naan, Jack m I six deadliest intelligent operative a weapons expert. When the ruthless assassin Roku exploits his greatest weakness, Naan Jack will be forced to betray his closest allies. Now on the run, he must face off against the most powerful heroes known to man for high octane take-no-prisoners trial by fire, more perilous and more predictable than any he's faced before the world's most dangerous. Super spy goes to war with the valiant universe. So check it out. They, I think they put it in trade paperback, and you can get all six issues, but together just a fun little book. Plume by Kaelin Smith Lassen certainly not least is plume. I talked with Kaelin Smith at Comecon, and as I've mentioned in two days ago, she is generally a nice person. I went to one of her panels and talked with her in the vendor area and ask a few questions, and she patiently indulged my questions in answered. All of them. Plume is a fun western adventure type of book with magical undertones to sum it up, I would say it's Laura Croft meets John Wayne type of John RA, and here's the solicit for volume. One plume a story set in the old west about a girl named Vesper, gray and supernatural companion, cork on their quest, recover her father's life's work. They encounter new friends and new foes and learned that the wild west is anything, but tame Kaelin Smith not only wrote it, but she did the art as well. Both in my opinion are excellent. This is a passion, passion prod. Occurs and their three total volumes of that.
