"There's a Posner poster poster from Archway. Scott still charter. He was last month's pay tribute to a teacher. If you know a remarkable Arizona teacher, they all are at this point that you would like to pay tribute to with the $2500 check this just text teacher. Before 11 93 and nominated teacher that you would like to pay tribute to that's teacher to 411 93 pay tribute to a teacher presented by your Valley Toyota dealers are they like really like we always hold them up in this, like you are not reality is that there are some that are terrible. That's right. Like Let's be real human beings. There's crappy doctors. There's credit, crappy everything. Do you know what my Children's teachers right now are phenomenal. They're amazing. My kid's teachers suck and I'll say it right now. Jack's teachers are awful. My brother. My little brother's all their beyond awful. It is all full. They have given up. Jack. That's how Reds were last year. Yeah, yeah, they just gave up. Here's the thing. Jack School is great. The problem I'm having with it is It's they're asking way too much of kids to sit in front of a screen for five hours and not say anything. That's the biggest thing. There was completely set up for it. So the system has been great, but we hold teachers up like they're the greatest things in the world. You know why? Because they're hanging out with your kids, so you don't have to all day. That's why that's the reality of it. I need a break from these kids how to survive in society, So they're not a math and reading teaching me that stuff. They're teaching him how to be woke there teaching them not to solve problems because everybody comes outside San Diego, and they have to take. No, that's everyone rich classes everywhere. Everywhere. It's totally everything. I think you're jaded. Our teachers are doing a really good job is doing a great job. It's right like there's no other Is there any other Any other profession in society. They gets paid so little for doing so much. You knew the get going into it. You don't get your first paycheck go. I thought you guys were kids full, of course. But of course not. That's why we love them picking a lot of days off. They do. Oh, there you go. But they mean they don't get paid a lot of money, Chad. People always say Well, you know what, Tom? They should pay like Tom Brady. Why This one of Tom Brady? There's 50 million of you. Not the way the world works, right if you could throw a ball 60 yards, And when six Super Bowls you'd get paid as much as Tom Brady? Yeah, probably. There you go. That's that. Just wanna him? What about the coaches of Tom Brady? About they get paid well, to what about the teachers of Tom Brady? They don't get paid as well. Okay, Because there's a lot of teachers. You're talking. We're still just talking about one person, Tom Brady. We're not talking about and he had 50 teachers along the way. So and by the way, the guys that teach Tom along the way for football like the guys who have been his coaches or personal trainers, they get paid well. Right? Yeah, but we do hold this. Like, like lawyers, right? You get the jokes about lawyers. Gosh, everybody hates a lawyer until they need until they need one. Right. Like the jokes about lawyers are tremendous doctors. It's 50 50. Everybody loves a nurse. But doctors you hate Yes. Because they're expensive. They're expensive, And usually they're delivering your horrible news or they don't spend enough time with these gonna be nice and the nurse because they're the ones giving you the shot. There you go, so So when it comes to all of these things, but teachers we way put on hold too high. Hold two high level briefings. They take care of our kids. You're watching our kids. They're teaching merchant Basically, baby said, our kids teaching our Children you baby sit her kids with calculated J I wanted to get we're gonna get to the store next. I swear we're gonna get to the story next. We're totally gonna do it. I'm gonna ask all of you that includes back Yulin and Pablo because you guys all have pets. Guy did something. We're gonna talk about what he did and ask you the simple question. What you do the same thing it is to get us a chance to All right, you get I got this baby and get do you get very excited. You're gonna push your button, But don't worry, man. I got this. I got this. All right, all right, all right, ideal home loans. First they listened and they land come straight to you. Maybe this year is not been great for you. But you've got a house and in that house, you've got equity and you're saying yourself. I'd love the lower my payment. Take out some money. Pay off.

"Voles exists around you having a right to appeal but you can understand what you'll being accused of as precisely because it's terribly easy. To Use the rules to oppress certain people are not others if you don't have to explain the roads. You know it's got me thinking that when we've talked about the kind of the impact of big companies, we've dolphin, often talked about it within within an antitrust setting, right? So there was the news story recently, which we don't have an analyst about Google being broken up. News story it's. Show it's possibly fundamentally by all the technology for the deck eat. That we could deal with the. Story coming out believe. I one way when we talk of anti-trust, it's often within the context of you know unfair competition but I think what's interesting about these cases with when we've talked about social media companies but now zoom. is where you have zooms a good example of this. You know when the pandemic hit. For whatever reason the will basically decided that zoom was where we were going to connect right it's by far the most popular like people who were unfamiliar with video conferencing they heard of zoom and that was the thing that they could think of when it came to video conferencing. So. They've gone from being a reasonable sized company to be. Probably, a smallish company in the scheme of things but with a massive compact on society in terms of what's normal. And that has and that resonates with schools like most of the schools that I've the I know people who got kids in school. It's the same with with Jack School they'll using them and I. it does seem like There is a balance here between. The and this is not antitrust. This is just something to do with. The responsibility of hey, though using tapes but really google classroom to but but but I completely agree with your point, the they are having. An. outsized impact on society as a whole. Is I'm we keep talking? We keep coming back to this point about having. A. You. Die. Facto Utility Yup, but without any of the constraints that apply on. So which point? This is like the about how I'm. Newspapers to print as many of the editors prejudices can get away with. To seven and I'm speaking guy who lives some considerable distance from on not sure I want more communication mediated by a bunch of papers from San Francisco. Hans. On this seems like a similar kind of vibe. I think one of the people have been feeling this impact the most our universities, right? Because universities are typically a place where there's a lot of speech that happens about a lot of things and some of its philosophical, but it runs the gamut on opinions. And with most universities going to zoom now if they can arbitrarily. Effectively shutdown classrooms. There's a real impact there in a way that everyone was just on campus. It's your room it's a, it's a different space. So curious to see where where that had an how it will impact university. Will it impact universities procurement decisions cases like this? That's a good point because it was already remember all it especially when you had some of these like provocateur springing up like. You know meal Oh you're not to listen Jordan Peterson going to universities and there was that kind of debate about whether. Some universities Ivan them speaks now seems to be coming into the virtual domain. But what do you guys think about I'm curious what you think. Because I think, we'd all agree that having governments restricting companies..

"But this spring, many of those vital services like physical therapy simply stopped. So what happens now, with some district planning to continue remote learning in the fall? Here's NPR's Corey Turner. For Sarah McClaren, who lives just outside Minneapolis. Talking aboutthe spring is painful. Her daughter struggles with auditory processing. McClaren says Keeping up with teachers on an iPad was super hard for her third grader. They'd tell her, you know, look at this problem. Look at that problem. No, show me your work sheet. I mean, the teachers were doing the best they could. But all those rapid verbal directions just overwhelmed her. McClaren says. Her daughter went from loving school, too, dreading it. She would literally run away from the iPad and hide in the closet or under the bed. Julie Malone is a speech language pathologist in the San Diego area and says she tried to work with students remotely. I have never worked harder in the spring, she says. That meant 16 hour days. Part of the problem. Many therapy providers say they got little direction from school district leaders about how to deliver their services remotely. I think districts were completely consumed with what to do with the majority of their kids. And I think special. It is the harder one to tackle and I think they left it to laughed. And it was a mistake. Or, as Sarah McClaren put it. There's an assumption that if we just get ipads to everyone, the kids will be okay. Well, some kids aren't going to be okay. And we need to talk about that. Julie Malone has been talking about that. Helping her district choose a new platform to replace zoom one better suited to the learning needs of her students elsewhere, though a handful of lawsuits have already been filed by parents and advocates, arguing that school's broke federal disability law by providing insufficient services in the spring. If you talk to school superintendents, most will say. They did their best. It was like being pushed out of a window and growing your wings on the way down. David Jack runs the schools in flock here. County, Virginia. He says the pandemic turned his whole system for serving kids with disabilities on its ear. But Jack says he is determined to do better this school year his staff have reached out to every family with a child who received special education. To talk through an update students special learning plans and though Jack schools will again be remote in the fall, he's making an exception for roughly 250 kids. The kids, he says, who simply cannot get what they need through a computer screen. That's really the longest short of it. They need to be served in the face to face model. And so that's what we're going to do. Sarah McClaren's district in Minnesota is doing something similar, and McClaren is thrilled that her daughter will be heading back to a school building. But Kendra Mendoza in Providence, Rhode Island, says she feels trapped Her son. Joshua has cerebral palsy and a cluster of other conditions that put him in fragile health. I spoke with them recently. Over Zoom is these query you say hi Quarry. Joshua in love school, but got little of the therapy he needed this spring. Also, as a single mom, Mendoza needs him to be in school so she can work. But when she was told that he could go back this fall, Mendoza still struggled. How do I send him to school? If it's going to be helping one more mistake could living in the hospital of potentially kill him? Mendoza says many Children with severe disabilities aren't just immuno compromised. It's often hard for them to wear masks or keep socially distant. They may need help eating or using the bathroom. There care is very physical, which puts them at greater risk. Still, Kendra Mendoza says she'll figure it out. It's other family. She's worried about what I am working in my favorite on stubborn, so I'm a glutton for punishment. But what about Mom that's ready to give up. Disability rights experts say this fall, schools have to do better. For the parents who are angry or ready to give up for the schools that no they could face legal consequences if they don't and, most importantly, for the kids for whom remote learning wasn't just inconvenient or boring. But a painful absence of vital care for months that could set them back for years. Cory Turner NPR news Suppose you took a slice of the Atlantic Ocean like a slice of pie and found how much plastic is in the water. NPR's Rebecca Hirscher reports on people who did that. Humans love plastic, And when our toothpaste tubes and surgical masks and car fenders reach the ends of their relatively short lives with us, they begin the rest of their very long lives as trash and a lot of that plastic pollution is really tiny. Some too small to see with the naked eye nature does his job catsup Robert Sava is an ocean bio geochemist at the National Oceanography Centre in the UK and she says the ocean is really good at making big pieces of plastic small You have sunlight that breaks down the plastics. You have wave action. You have abrasion and those tiny bits eventually make it back to us. Humans in our air, our water and our food. But scientists still don't know exactly how much so called micro plastic is in the ocean. There have been rough estimates. It was about Singleton five and 12 million on when into the global ocean just in 2010. But when scientists added up all the plastic on the surface of the ocean It was a lot less than they expected, which Probert, Sava says is not good news. It just means it's somewhere else. If we're missing lines 9% off the plastic way thought we have put in. It has to be somewhere. On previously indicated that there is a lot of plastic that was present at the seabed already. And if there's plastic on the surface and all the way at the bottom of the ocean on the seabed, there's probably plastic in between so poverty off his team gathered water from the top 200 m of the Atlantic Ocean toe look for types of plastics that are used in packaging. And they found a gigantic amount of plastic hanging out below the surface way more than the previous estimates would suggest They published their findings in the journal Nature Communications,.

"Five five six David, and we'll take a look at your tax returns to see if we can get some more money out of that, that you might not think that we could get, or we'll take a look at the Bank statement loans, and recalibrate the low you've been in a fifteen v. Fifteen years at seven percent. Even if we could take that number at I will bet you a steak dinner at Ishmaelite brandy brandy old fashioned. Overlooking lake wherever there, you know, that we could take that fifteen year fixed loan extended out, thirty years. Maybe pay off some debt and save that texter, a ton of money. Excellent from the seven zero eight my sister, and brother-in-law have a ranch house in will county. Shannahan Illinois, the ranch houses a three bedroom with an unfinished basement, their taxes are almost ten thousand my sister and brother-in-law were surprised. Do you think that they are charged? They're being charged way too high for their property taxes. Well here at the general, they answer that question is do, I think everybody knows the answer is yes? Okay. Shanahan, listen. What you need to do is, is get a hold of, you need to get a hold the assessment either go to one of those classes that nobody knows what the hell they're talking about or higher. Good real estate tax appeal guy, or gal that will appeal your taxes, and take a portion of what they save you. Okay. So ten thousand dollars for three bedroom ranch Chan Han is a little miss Shuki. Okay. It it's not a little. That's a lot Michelle you. That's crazy. Okay. And I and again, I'm not going to get into the tax thing here. But you should have on Jack Franks. Okay. The president of the McHenry county board, right? Then bring in Toni preckwinkle, let them sit side by side and let and let Jack school Tony on what he did in McHenry county to cut taxes by ten percent a year. Municipality? Yes. Yes, he he eliminated county board seats. And then when when the forest preserve district of whatever came in with the budget ten percent higher, he said, thank you for presenting the budget. Now go back and figure out a way to come back and take ten percent off instead of asking for a ten percent race. That's what we need to do. We need to get our financial house fiscal because peop-, we're driving people up people ten thousand dollars a three bedroom ranch. Crazy crazy. It's crazy up. Sorry. I did a little I went off the rails. They're it it's thinking you know what I do it every day. And I see it. I see what it's doing to property values. Okay. I, I saw a eight nine hundred thousand dollar home in Lincolnshire, okay. Dropped to six hundred thousand dollars in value because the real estate taxes are went from what from eleven twelve thousand dollars to eighteen thousand dollars. Okay. So for every five hundred twenty five dollars in that one hundred thousand dollars worth of mortgages costs about five hundred twenty five dollars. So every time you raise real estate taxes, six grant, okay? A year you just eliminated a hundred thousand dollars worth of property value off of people's homes. I do this for a living. I see it every day, the elected officials like, oh, yeah, let's just Jack it up a little more. Let's check this up. Little more. I can understand the gas tax thing, right? Because our roads are falling apart. You wanna take eighteen cents. I'm not happy about it, but you don't have tired of blow, and rims. On our crappy streets. Okay. I understand that I'm willing to pay that, but real estate, we're driving people out of the state. It's crazy from the four seven. David. Would you hire an attorney to try to get the property tax lowered is yes? It's definitely worth it because what, what I just explained. Is that the property tax attorney takes a portion of the money that they save you? And again, I do this for a living. I don't have time to start looking at appraisals and doing all that stuff, if they can save you money. They take a pace and you get a bigger piece of what they say. So definitely hire a real estate tax turn. Say that our very first segment of David has gone wildly successful. Yeah. Thanks. You need to get some rest, my friend. What time are you doing? Cochran show, scheduled Tucker seven thirty. Be back here seven go. Get some us. Thanks for having. We'll have you back in two weeks from tonight are the twentieth on the twentieth. I have not gone back to the parent mindfulness class that they have a Jack school on Tuesday mornings. So I used to go to this. I've talked about it on the podcast. I love this class. I think it is so incredibly valuable every single time. I've gone I've felt like I got so much out of it. I know when it is. And I could have easily started going back like when the semester started, you know, after a break that was a perfect time to start up again. And I've said to myself mindfulness is starting right now, I'm sitting here on campus. And I haven't gone, and I'm very mad at myself. Do you think he could start going next week? I mean, I could. You know, what I maybe I need to do is get like a buddy why friend a man this. Maybe I need to say a man and -bility Tuesday. Yes. It's it's so great. It is so great. Maybe if I say, Mandalay, you go with me and you'll be my partner. Yes. You know, then I'll be more likely to do it. I think that's accountability. There have been eight episodes of seeing all eight, of course, on when she goes in with the different family and helps them cleared their clutter and to me there's nothing more fascinating than like seeing people's inside their houses seeing their relationship with their possession seeing how they relate to their possessions. How do they work out conflicts among themselves? How did they implement her ideas the most famous of which is that you should keep something only? If it sparks joy. That's I think what she's probably best known for. So I. Evan. I loved these shows. And so I just want to give a gold star to Marie condo. Because I'm just enjoying the show. And I'm getting kind of a contact high frozen. Gonna ask thought you probably would. Yes. I mean to me it's so exhilarating to see people clear cluttered that it's this like I can't get enough of it. It's great because there's a certain sense of competition. Even it's with yourself against other things. And it's you want to do better, you do and the way that they're doing.
