GM to offer car insurance based on driving habits
"There's a change happening in automobile ownership. That is big time significant for your wallet. It started as so many other innovative things seemed to do. And the vehicle business. With tesla that has experimented with selling vehicle insurance along with your ownership or lease of a tesla and they only do it in a more limited fashion but something that maybe eventually they will roll out is a national thing. The reason tesla is so keen on this. Is that traditional auto. Insurers seem completely unprepared for an era where the vehicle will do the driving and and think about that. Thought you just sit there while the vehicle drives you to your destination so then if something happens in your in iraq. Whose fault is the car or is it you or is it. Some combination of which traditional auto insurers have fallen flat on their faces responding to the technological change in the market will general motors which is also installing. More and more vehicles with autonomous systems is now launching a car insurance business that they're planning to offer across the fifty states so they're only going to do it in a slow rollout 'til sometime in twenty one when they'll have the legal right to sell auto insurance in the whole country and they've not said when in twenty one it will be available but what they're doing at gm is you know forever. Even before tesla was cool. They've really pushed their onstar connected. Data service that's become steadily more sophisticated. So when you sign up if you choose to if you're a gm vehicle owner chevy Gmc truck buick. Whatever cadillac when you sign up you are giving them permission to figure out. Are you driving or is vehicle driving itself and if you're driving how are you driving. What speed are you going at. Are you doing jack. Rabbits stops and starts and stops. Are you doing rapid lane changes in other words. They're going to collect all the data on how you are operating your vehicle and whether you're operating it or the vehicles operating itself one of the penalty box things is if you don't have your tires properly inflated which increases the chances of you being in an accident when your tires or under inflated note to self if you don't have your tires properly inflated just generally not just about the premature wear and tear of your tires it can put you in danger. Get air in those tires. What i do is i have An air pump at home. That's a really good one that i can just Hook it up to the to the cigarette lighter. They're still is such a thing in the car and hook it up the tire and just watch the meter to see when he's got the right. Psi the right Number of pounds of air in the tire. And then i know that tire is right and safe but the idea of vehicle insurance changing like this is this is only the beginning where we will be judged based on who who's driving how we're driving and where we're driving and the traditional idea of auto insurance is not over but it's definitely at the beginning of the end in how we pay will be completely different potentially per mile of variety of ways that we will pay for vehicle insurance and if you are a gm vehicle owner and you have on star when this coverage is available. Look at it and see if it would be a money saver for you instead of being with a traditional vehicle insurer.
HE HAD TO BE SHOWN
"Who is convinced against his will is of the same opinion still. But not this man. I was the oldest of three children and my father was an alcoholic. One of the earliest memories that I have is of a bottle sitting on his desk with skull and crossbones and marked poison. At that time as I remember he had promised never to take another drink. Of course he did I can also remember that he was a salesman and a very good one. When he was uptown, we were living in the little town of Moscow. I went up to try to get some money from him to buy groceries. He wouldn't give me any money for the groceries, but he did take me across the street and buy me a bag of candy which I later took back traded for a loaf of bread. I was not more than six at that time. My father died in nineteen. Oh One when I was eight years old and I was in the second or third grade school. I immediately quit school and went to work and from that time until I was high school age, there was never a return to school. I always built up in my own mind. The great things that I was going to do, and in fact, I accomplished about fifty percent of them and then lost interest. That continued through my entire life. When I was sixteen years old my mother remarried and I was given the opportunity of going back to school. I went into the high school grades but having missed all the intermediate grades I didn't get along too well. So I developed the habit of going back to school just long enough for the football season and then quitting. There was always a tremendous drive and ambition to become a great guy because I think I recognized inwardly that I didn't have any special talents. At a comparatively early age I can remember being jealous of my brother. He did things much better than I did because he applied himself and learned how to do them and I never applied myself. Whether I could have done as well as he I don't know. I was married at the age of nineteen to a grand girl and had good business prospects. I had bought a piece of ground in Cuyahoga falls and cut it into lots and had a profit of approximately forty thousand dollars and that was a lot of money in those days. With that profit I built a number of houses, but then I neglected them. I wouldn't put sufficient time on them. Consequently, my labor bills ran up I. Lost Money and then just fool the way a large part of that profit. When I was eighteen at the end of high school, the High School team had a banquet at a well known roadhouse outside of Akron. We boys drove out in somebody's car and went to the bar on the way to the dining room and I in an effort to impress the other boys that I was city bread having lived in Scranton and Cleveland asked them. If they didn't want to drink, they looked at one another quarterly and finally one of them allowed he'd have a beer and they all followed him each of them saying he'd have a beer too. I ordered Martini extra dry. I didn't even know what a Martini looked like but I had heard a man down the bar order one. That was my first drink. I kept watching the man down the bar to see what he did with a contraption like that and he just smelled up his drink and set it down again. So I did the same. He took a couple of puffs of the cigarette and I took a couple of puffs on my cigarette. He tossed off half of his Martini I tossed off half a mind and nearly blew the top of my head off it. Irritated. My nostrils I choked I didn't like it. There was nothing about that drink that I liked but I watched him any tossed off the rest of his. So I tossed off the rest of mine he ate his olive and I ate mine I didn't even like the olive it was repulsive to me from every standpoint I drank nine Martinis in less than an hour. Twenty. Two years later Dr Bob told me that what I had done was like switch and setting up a demand for more alcohol in my system. I didn't know that then I had no more reason to drink those. Martinez than a Jack Rabbit. At that particular time the boys put me on a shudder and took me out to the shed and I lay in the car while they enjoyed their banquet. That was the first time. I. Ever Drank hard liquor. Blackout. Drinking. At once.

"Free. But that's being I mean, it's. For for the most part some of these places burned down a week ago today. Right. A week ago. And there's no effort in place right now to begin removing debris because they're still searching for bodies. And they've got the cadaver dogs in there. And they've got the national guard donning these white costumes, and they're they're in the face masks and all the rest, but they're literally going house to house picking through rubble and anything they think might be a remain. They're able to speed up the identification process using portable devices that can identify genetic material and a couple of hours whereas in the past used to take days or even weeks. But then you're getting all of these accounts of escapes like what we talked about yesterday that family of four with their ninety year old neighbor and their pets getting into the CONCACAF reservoir. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's right. You've got fire all around the reservoir. All these homes are just up in flames, and they made it into the reservoir. And I don't know what happened to that ninety year old guy been trying to poke around all we knew was his name was Bruno. And he was the guy that because of you know, the while the reservoir saved his life. Because of his age and frailty he did suffer hypothermia and they had to get him to hospital. What's the fire rate went through the area? I haven't found no follow up on poor haven't been able to find anything either. We did also see that story. They found that horse in that pool. I don't know if you saw that. But they they found a horse that had jumped into someone's pool in the backyard and survived the fire. Unbelievable. Well, it's interesting. I've heard this from outdoorsman in the past in the event of an emergency. Like, for example, a fire. Or if you're ever out in the middle of the desert looking for water. That's that's what you do. I have one crazy friend of mine. He was he was in the desert and. A long story how he got there. But he's in the desert, and he's in a situation where there's no water he needs water. And he's I mean, he's in a very remote area. And what he did was at the bay. There's a cactus in the desert of the southwest that produces. That produces salt. And so he was able to ball up this salt. And that I mean, this is incredibly clever outdoorsman he caught a Jack rabbit somehow. He caught a Jack rabbit was able to take a thin strip of cash. It's almost like a rope off of a off the cactus. We peels off something resembling. A rope off a cactus has this rabbit that he caught right? He ties up the rabbit's feet. So they're all bound up together. And then he placed the rabbit which could no longer move next to this little ball of salt. And the rabbit, of course, went for the salt right away. This licking licking licking licking licking licking licking leaking licking the salt. And then after a period of time of this thing licking, the salt. He knew that the rabbit would be starved for water at this point. Because that's what salt does to you. Right. He untied the rabbit, and then the rabbit takes off and he's able to follow the rabbits tracks to a pile of boulders and beneath the boulders he said there was there was a literally a stream underground rushing beneath the sand of the boulders amazing. That's where the rabbit wet. Able to fill up his canteens and do everything that. Yeah. Wow. So the the the wildlife has a great beam on where to go, they know the terrain. It's a survival, instinct, etc. The likes of which we don't have. So there was the story of that kooky mountain man, right? And his way of escape was he saw FOX running. So he thought I'll follow the FOX and the FOX goes right to a stream, and that's what he was able to jump into as the fire raged over. Crazy. Sixteen minutes before seven o'clock. Katie's got a traffic check.
