What are the wider locations of the latest Brexit developments? I think if you think about it so to going into kind of year end in the fact that people are already wanted to kind of get positions squared away and closed up was going to Christmas and New Year. You know what you are saying? I think it is a bit of just broad based religion. It's not a huge shift. But of course you know UK assets reacted very strongly yesterday at a big sell off in the bond market Yields on the 10 year gilt threw up 13 14 basis points. On and you saw that followed two in the fact that people know incrementally seem like they're willing to take a little bit more. This so equities ruled me. "Addition Jack Morris, west Johnson, do pitchy. Go sit Hartman Dan cooks out your the hammer back in studio. Lot of people behind this operation said maybe get some gypsum pitching. Coach Jack Mars one hundred percent. I mean, come on. I'll take any tips. He wants to give us. Let me ask you this Jack you can follow up on Jack's Jellison bulldog. Of course, he teach bulldog. I think you can you can get them to a certain level of bulldog. Let's use that to get to his level. Boy, it's tough. Those are the guys that you hope you get in your career in your coaching career. If you get three guys have them in tallied like he had lucky you just chalk it up as lock. And man, you're going to be looked at is really good, right? Because they gave Mike and west. I think you're totally correlates with how much success they have because the more they have success the more. They're gonna want it. And that creates the bulldog. I think my question for, you know, for me when when I heard that you were going to get hired as a pitching coach, I thought to myself, okay. The guy can be great in college the Proser different deal in the ingredient that changes is there's money involved with the people you're coaching as a college coach your teaching kids to get to where they can make some money. Now, you got kids that have already made money and some of them big money, and there's a different attitude working with those guys we talk about trust. Gimme your ideas of how you're going to migrate that whole situation and be able to communicate. Well, I think the biggest thing when you develop trust is you gotta let them know you care about them as a person when you let them know you care about them as a person and their family, and and that they do have goals, we're going to talk about the big elephant room. I know you're coming up for contract. My job is to help you get that contract. And so I think part of that is is eight Linda, no you care about that. When that happens the wall start to come down. Right. And then it opens up the communication and in. These guys will wanna come talk to you not only about baseball. But about other stuff, which allows you to talk more about bulldog mentality and and different things. But for me the biggest thing is trust. You know, there's a great book out. But anyway, it's called the speed of trust. And it talks about when trust is established everything moves faster when you don't have trust everything slows down. And so as we talked earlier one of my biggest things flying around seeing all of our players has been to get in there and start that trust. Because I really do believe it's established things move faster. Have you talked to Lhasa Pfister's here? Yes, sir. We sure have quite a few of them had had some really excited. I haven't been out to fly out to sea tater Rogers, just with his schedule some different things, we couldn't get it to work out. But obviously we've talked quite a bit on the phone so one of my more enjoyable conversations. This weekend's been with him. We've sit down and broke down some things for is probably a good thirty forty five minutes yesterday. One more question for both of you an ace of the staff, you know, again, we'll get back to Jack was to define who is thrown an opening date. Braille maybe I don't know. Maybe he can get to that level. I don't know you guys know more than I do is it important to have a number one starter west you started Jackie follow up. How I believe it is. I believe it's you know, that's the guy who hopefully the rest of your staff feeds off. And I think it is important to have a one mentality thing as Jack talked about I really believe that bulldog. It's to winning it starts to feed itself. And so yes for me. I'll take it to just a little same same kind of general fought. But a different way of looking at it is the teams that I played on Detroit. Minnesota Toronto the staffs were the reason we were world champions. We had dedicated pitchers and we had a competitive nature amongst us. And I opened that. I really did. I challenged them. I tease me when I came here. When I went to Toronto, I was the old guy on the team, and they thought well, this old guy can't run. He can't do. And I and I made sure that I beat him in every sprint, and I brought him to a level. And then when I when they went to the mound. It was top that one top what I just did be better than me you own this day you own that mound. You're King Kong in that mentality. I think is really good for a staff to what they're they're competing. But you're you're also pulling together. And I think that's exactly what is going to try to really, cultivate, here said. Look. With the microphone up your mouth. Assistant. Coach. So we've got Jeremy Hefner who was our advanced athletic scout last year in Germany, obviously pitched pitch with the New York Mets first stint, and he actually lives about an hour and a half for me. So we've actually had quite a bit of interaction over the hiring. And and it's been a lot of time together. But he's I'm really excited about him. Was why don't you tell the folks here and everybody listened to where you coached first of all? And then where are you from guys originally, I'm from Sherwood, Arkansas, but? So I call myself an Arkansan originally, though, I started out and gosh way back in the nineties is a high school coach and then moving into the college ranks coach at university of central Arkansas, Dallas Baptist university. We had a lot of success there. And a couple of guys on on that staff are currently pitching in the big leagues. Went to Mississippi State for short stint had a really good. Teams there. We had Brent Rooker current twin high coach Brent phenomenal year that force. And then I've been at the university of Arkansas the past couple of years. So it's been a lot of fun. I've worked for a lot of great head coaches been around a lot of really good players. It's been fun. Now. I joke with some of these guys I've worked with major league pitchers in the off season. They'll call me. And now, I'm like I can't work with anymore. You know, I got I got my guys. So it into broadcasting you can work wherever you, that's right? And then it's like, there's no there's no bias. But. In a short nutshell. That's kind of where I've been west welcome the twins territory..

"Sports broadcaster. Matt shepard. Right. I'm at their Mitch and Kenny how you doing? Hey, congratulations on that. Thanks a lot. I really appreciate. That means an awful lot to be, you know, be born and raised here. It's it's a dream. Come true for me for sure. Yeah. And I liked it. They gave it to someone who's I'm not calling you old. I'm just not calling you a kid, you know, you've been around a little bit. And a lot of times, you know, everything with this as well. Who's the youngest person we could get here there? But I think especially when it comes to baseball the more time you have had to be baseball fan, the better baseball announcer. You are because of the rhythm of the game. There's there's so many openings for you to call on your experience and talk about things you've seen. But if you're twenty five your experience is fairly limited. So I I think that that that could be a great opportunity for you, especially as I understand you were like one of those kids who was ten years old and dreaming of being a Tigers announcer. Oh, no doubt. Look, I think baseball's about storytelling. I think it's about relationships. I think it's about you know, wealthy people are welcoming you. You into their home right around dinner time every single night. I don't take that lightly. That's that's pretty special. So they want to feel close to you. They want they wanna like you. That's a big deal or Kirk Gibson, Jack oars Greg Monroe, and we know that this is a very prestigious thing where Detroiters are willing to say, you know, what here's my family room. Here's my kitchen. Here's my Jack. Here's my pool. We're going to spend the night with you. So that's that's pretty special. Yeah. Well, it's good to hear somebody who gets that to really understand because it is a unique thing. Now, I understand that they interviewed like fifty people around the country for this gig. And you want to say to them. He's like. Blocks away. Less than a gallon of gas. And you can just go and get what I mean. What do you make of that? Biggest search only to come back to you. Well, let's due diligence. Right. I mean, that's what they probably should do. This is what I think you guys have been here forever. You you guys know how big of a job. This is how important it is. And what kind of city Detroit is I would expect them to talk to many people qualified people as they could. I think it speaks volumes about Detroit Tigers organization that so many people wanted it. And I from what I heard it was more than fifty. So look they they knew what I could do. They know how much I love representing the network and how much I love representing the city the state and this organization I was willing to let the whole thing play out. It did teach me an awful lot of patients. Mitch I can tell you that in. Yeah. Are you gonna miss doing your piston Red Wings on the lions preseason is probably going to be the same time? Right. So you got to cut back on those. Yeah. Tigers become top priority. And rightfully so Kenny, look I what I've loved over the last twenty twenty five years is getting the opportunity to do so many different events and do it in different roles. And I think that's helped me being a reporter Vena host. I I get it. I get little things. Like, I I gotta get to the reporter quickly on the field. So they can get their their story in before they send it back to me. And I loved the relationships I've been able to establish the organizations I can't tell you how heart warming it is to hear from the coaches in this town, college and pro and the front office diesel front office people, but they've all called to congratulate me understanding that this is something that I've wanted ever since like Mitch said, I was ten years old. Did were you one of those kids who just did the turn the sound down on the TV? And just did it yourself. No, no, I wasn't. But what I was is sitting in the family room with my father watching any game because the Tigers weren't on every single day, right then. So like if the if the Phillies Expos were on we're watching right? And I wanted to hear it. I wanted to listen to what various people said and the various announcers whether it be joke. Arouse Yola Tony Koubek or Ernie Harwell in L K mart. That was a really important to me. And what we do is after the game was over we run out of the back yard. We'd line up. All those plastic helmets that we bought at tiger stadium for five bucks. And we would be that particular all star takes it was the pirates. It might have been L Oliver. You know, if it were, you know, the the Atlanta Braves and made it, maybe Dale Murphy your Bob Horner or somebody like that. But you had to be really special to where the Tigers English. Indeed. And then to be whoever was Kirk Gibson for crying out loud. Larry heard Chet lemon, whoever I was always Allen travel that was kind of reserved, but. Yeah. I mean, that's that's what we used to do. And then my buddies at all safe, we're playing stickball in the street, and we did that all the time. It's all right shop call this one way up. We just kind of do our best to earlier George Kelly indication and then see if we could approve upon Nixon. Well, you know, you certainly have put in the time you've covered everything, you know, you've covered all Detroit sports teams you've done it in radio and television and running around on the play by play and and and the separate programs, and I think if I'm guessing probably urine you this. The most is that you stepped into the seat in early September after the unfortunate fractious there between the two announcers that led them both delete the booth, and that's a weird way to get a job. You know opportunity knocks in in these sort of situations. And I think you know, the month that you were able to do and and show them what you could do probably want a long way towards getting hired. Don't you think? Yeah. Probably that. And and being somebody local somebody understanding I think what the fan base wants. And who they are and being able to reference various things without having to look it up. I'm sure that helps you think it helps you your show helps Kenny show and things like that avid show. Kenny, Kenny Kenny is this show. I basically just help Kenny do this broad. Let's see here fleet. I've seen Kenny walk into the Detroit Lions press box at eastern Michigan press box and everything to stop. This is the show. Yeah. Everything sauce 'cause he goes, where's the? Free food. Well, we're happy for you. You know, you've earned it. You've worked hard at it. And and you're one of us in the backyard. And I I like when they stay local I hate when they bring people in from the outside. We just don't get Michigan and Detroit and you put in thirty plus years on this. You certainly have earned it. So congratulations on the gig. And we'll look forward to seeing you and hearing you on Tigers broadcasts. Well, thanks a lot. Mitch appreciate you've been an inspiration to a lotta people in this business. Can he's been a good friend for a long time. So the under shows an honor. I'll do it anytime you guys want. Well, it'll be the first of many, thanks, Matt. Appreciate you coming up. You gotta get match shepherd. The new man in the booth alongside a multitude of former Tigers Gus they're gonna mix them up with Kirk Gibson. And Jack Mars, I think damn Petri is getting in there. Should get to cheers. "I'll give you a great Yankee story. One of my favorites. I mean in baseball. Now there literally is an injury or more every single day. And in nineteen twenty seven when the Yankees had you know one of the best teams of all time for sure, for sure. Yeah, they they broke camp with twenty five players. And those are the ten twenty five players played all year. So you know they were on whether I, when your contracts and they had to keep weighing when they wanna take their job. And nowadays, I think the agents probably tell the players if you slightly hurt, don't play. We want a big contract. That's what I think. Well, the money certainly has changed the game. Yeah, of course. It's changed. You know the the the to me, the craziest thing. I again, I'm not judging on just commenting the crazy thing. Yeah, the craziest thing is you know, you give a pitcher one hundred and fifty million. The guy goes five innings max, you know, I mean, if you came out to take the ball from Gibson, he probably hit you for head with a with a. Absolutely, right. Absolutely, right. So we were talking about this on the air and we're in Minnesota and x. number weeks ago and Jack Morris was doing the game, Minnesota TV and and that's what Susan I said on the air boy came to take the ball from Jack Mars. You'd be. Yeah, so, but that's change. Oh, is that change? Yeah. So you give the guy a hundred and fifty million. He's going to give you five innings day. You know, maybe once in a while he's going to give you six and God forbid, he's, he's throwing a no hitter gives you eight and then you, you know, the bullpen, saves it form, but. Now, the guy pitches two years out of his five year contract, one hundred and fifty million, and then he can't go the rest of the other three years and they all mold that money. I mean, I get why they do it, but it's, it's really, it's changed the game. For well without, yeah. Go ahead without knocking how much money the the players make, which is obviously Norma's. But I'm saying if I was a team, the last thing I would do is what they did with David price in Boston or exact Ranki in Arizona. When you when you sign a guy thirty million a year for five years, they probably is no chance that he's going to be pitching well in five years. I mean, they these pitchers get so fragile. They get injured every day. So. Yeah. Well, it's the same with long term contracts with. Baseball for for everyday players. I'm not an agent. I'm not a general manager. I'm not any of that. And if I was a player, I would certainly line up and say, okay, I want my, I want my share of it, but you know if few Mike trout? Yeah, signed him for ten years and give them fifty million a year. He's worth every penny of. But don't give them don't give him fifty million or twenty million or thirty million between the ages of thirty five and forty five. Which is well, you know, and to me that you wonder is having a star, and this is a question that that I like your comment on is having a star on your team regardless of whether he's able to perform at a certain level, having a name. That important to a franchise that they're willing to overpay. I don't think so in baseball, because although every what we'll see this winter with Bryce Harper among others. Manny, Machado free agents. But in in baseball, you know, you're a great baseball fence. You know, this one guy cannot investment. One person could turn a team around, you know, magic or bird or whatever, but not in baseball. The proof of it is the best pitcher in the National League was the Mets. Jacob degrom. It was brilliant all the time and Ziara was in the ones and they had a losing record because right. The rest of the team wasn't good enough. So I think to you probably seeing a little something different in baseball anyway, because last year the owners did not trip over themselves and sign these free agents, big contracts and so interested to see this winter, what they do with Harper Machado..

"Now, we're in a world where people can pasta become baseball experts who truly utterly never have to watch a game because all they do seriously all they, it was crunch the numbers period. It's all about the numbers. This moneyball to the integral vigneault. Billy Beane himself will disavow, you know, fifty percent of what's in that book. Now, my final thing on this Jim Thome I must say. Boston guy on, obviously, you know, but I'm the shortlist of my favorite players of my life. Jim Thome e is right there and I'm an and hit my interactions with him. We're always incredibly pleasant and I have no of no naysayer. If anyone here knows of Lawrence, Thomas MIT of you ever heard anybody personally, say a negative word about Jim Thome you the man supposed to guy who at the six hundred and twelve home runs. I wanna hear about it because I don't know of any such person. This is look I, it's it's lower here in Chicago. He was here with the White Sox for four years. The owner of the White Sox. Jerry Reinsdorf said that Jim Thome is one of the three greatest people that he's ever met. That's how beloved he is in the White Sox organization. And he's just one of those guys where when he would walk into the clubhouse always had time for you always had his story was always pleasant, and I don't think that there's some guys you, you can see through the facade. I always felt like it was genuine. In with Jim Thome e. Well, that's my impression too, and I'm glad to hear you echo that and last thought move onto football. Alan Trammell while being a fantastic shortstop and all the rest of also a guy. You never heard anything bad about the one thing that he did that you won't see anymore, like Jack Mars fighting to stay in a game. He negotiated his own contracts and did several of them while he was actually practicing like he did. He did one with Bill joy where he was out on the field and legit came out and throw a number out of it. What do you think? And he took grounder and he said, yeah, that'll do. And they shook hands and his contract was done, and I don't think we're seeing that anymore. Think about how many guys won't even talk about a contractor, they're not negotiating during his season? Yeah, I think anytime you can actually negotiate contracts with the glove. On your hand, you're doing something that's going to last for long time with very predictable and an admirable that he would use his time. Time to make the case for his double playmate Lou Whitaker. Okay. Before we shift over to the NFL, let me tell everybody today's show is brought to you by simply safe home security. If you've ever looked for a security system, you know that it's tough. A lot of systems are too expensive too complicated that got.
