F. L. draft to that like literally everything right now it's actually this is its second for me October is it is my favorite time I mean now that you're a big league pitcher yeah cool you know even though he was okay even so October is my favorite time because do you have I believe the NFL true is going on believe the energy of the NFL going here of Major League Baseball playoffs and young college football going and then you have you know everything else kind of comes up the same time but I've always felt that October when you when you combine your you get mad when you get Major League Baseball and you get the NFL and you get college football all going on at the same time our server that's October it's always been my favorite month for sports mark this time right here would be a very like close second but just because the end of the NBA playoffs so what group it just into this category yeah but yeah October we did a draft of sports events the other night like okay this will be your slate for the year there were four of us we did on the show March madness one first I think may Super Bowl one second then Major League Baseball playoffs then I think I took the masters a Stanley Cup Finals was up there as well but we could have all this stuff crammed hopefully hopefully we could have maybe all this stuff overlapping for the first time ever in a few months if if everything goes well yeah you never know it is definitely because I'm not really interesting just with everything going on but anytime you get all these sporting events around each other it's always exciting so what are you doing every day and what are your workouts and your throwing like right now how much of that was planned as you guys were leaving Florida because I know a million things are going on how much communication is there Jack on on a day to day basis give folks an idea of of what this week has been like I mean there's configuration you known in terms of throwing in terms of working out the schedule was kinda ever changing for this first part of this week as we try to figure out how long you know we might be looking at and so it's just kind of change is still up in the air you know thrown here and there to meet you know terrible time just trying to stay sharp or you know get another chance to iron some things out as opposed to working on it in the beginning the season just aren't just ironing things out working through it that way and then workouts I mean it's not you know trying to do as much as we can this point is it frustrating is it more frustrating to not really know what's going on or does everyone kind of wish they were playing to realize it everyone every sport really everyone in every walk of life is kind of in the in the same boat you know like I was thinking about that today that's the crazy thing whether your waiting to start the season to be the cardinals opening day starter like you or if you work at you know a banker restaurant you're a teacher you're homeschooling your kids not everyone's kind of in the same boat which is crazy I can't think of any other instance in which that would be the case you know it's not like a saga strike or you know something with one city that gets hit by natural disaster it's just it's bizarre to think about yeah you know it it's one of those things and I don't ever want to call it to be who are you know pour me or anything because everybody really is and and kind of the same boat I mean you got everybody in different walks of life having things canceled and schedules changed you know at this point you know for kids like little league seasons are being canceled I'm sure like you know you know the just everything on different sports all around are being canceled you know spelling bee words I think was canceled as well and some somebody somewhere is looking forward to that I doubt might have been there time to actually go out and win it and just ahead and really anything you can think of people everywhere are having sex since you know things that they were really looking forward to cancel so you know for myself obviously we we want to I want to be playing we all want to play but understanding the situation and that that people everywhere are all going through this it's not just us it's not just the people you know it's it's it's everybody and really thinking about just now everybody has been impacted and you know just praying for for really everybody everywhere that you know hopefully this comes down sooner than we think but you know during these times just really try to be understanding of everybody and so just think of ourselves are so we are going to be playing we want we want to do it I will be playing baseball and everybody wants everything to resume as normal but it's gonna take time that's for sure how much do you like reading in and watching about what's going on I mean it's the only story in the news and I've caught myself going down a couple of rabbit holes how much do you follow what's going on and how much do you maybe try to stay away since you have no control none of us have any control over it also when when we were in Florida and it kind of started up and shake I was checking everything every day really every hour once it was like something new came up something changed every couple hours so now since I've been home I really have not been checking up on it just been kind of going about my business doing whatever I can to no other standard chain just you know do different things I I haven't been checking up on it too much just a little updates here and there but not too much of the morning but just try to do what I can to stay away from it all Jack Flaherty is with us you've been having fun on social media going back and forth with people I know that you do a number of podcasts and chats you doing with Robbie and you guys have been thrown around some different topics lot of NBA stuff how much fun is it been to have that kind of as a diversion to talk hoops to watch some of the old games both college and MBA that that have been on over the last week or so yeah I mean there's a lot of fun I guess just appealing was mine most of the action and everything is going on on Twitter terms of different lists being made this is gonna be it's just crazy because this is what I do work in a couple of my life whether it's close friends whether it's you know guys on the team are just people in general we get together we start talking sports and socially my best friend and I we just were always there whether we're texting each other on the phone or make it less about all right give me your best all time team for this give your best team for that give me you know your favorite players like him you're one through five of favorite like there's so many different things that we do yes we've kind of taken a little bit to social media and taken it that way and then as soon calling other people have gotten involved in kind of done that so it it's always random stuff over some reason lists all it's fun to make and see what other people have come up with yeah there was the all time MLB team there was did stubby come up with the if you had a team full of pictures only pictures and everyone on the pitch one inning of play a position who would be on your team so stubby this study came up with that study came out of nowhere that was a that was that was sneaky sneaky question here does a great that was a great question he came out of nowhere and there's other ones that are going to come up to the you know we talked about you know if you had to take all MLB all current MLB players and make you know football team our current MLB players make a basketball team like what would you come up with that those are gonna take a little bit more thought but the whole pitchers one study came out of nowhere and then came up with it came over his last all right so your team first it was hard to do yes very hard to do so you add yourself shortstop or third base to Grahm at third base cranky at second bomb garnered first Ueno in left field Lorraine's in center field that's not fair yeah he could play anywhere freed outfield Woodruff Luke weaver a catcher he was one of the guys in the touches healing club right yeah so did you have guys like texting you about this like the basketball stuff last year and did you have guys campaigning so I didn't the one guy that I know what it would have texted me if I didn't put him on the list would've well two guys would have been weaver and would have been when I know if I didn't wait on this team it would've been I probably have got a phone call like what you just like a what do you do it but it's hard to to figure out who like would be catching.

"If your insurance cost like an arm called James Carlton State Farm. Yeah that's something that has been since I was in high school. The don't mess with me. Jack Flaherty yes weird. My coach he talks about. He's like you know he said you are always a really athletic and really gifted as a position player but for some reason you just hit a different mode when you'd go on. Start Day and and I've always been that way like there's maybe there's that like there's like a five minute window where I kinda let my guard down of like you can talk to me. And then it's like right before the game or WanNa know it's you know in high school. It was a different routine garage. Then I'd come sit down and right before I went to go play catch. You could talk to me and then the second. I was out of the Dugout to go play catch. It was don't like and then come in the dugout. Like you'd better not be sitting in my seat or do yen even so that. That's something that I again. You know as I went through the minor leagues. It was something I had to read. You know find that again. It kind of goes away. You know you get leagues. You kind of feel Sometimes you kind of feel weird about being yourself and even the big leagues little. You know it's like you gotTa do what works for you but you don't want to step on toes and was able to understand that that guys don't care whatever works for you you gotTa do and so for me. That's that mentality I get into and it's not don't mess with me. It's just that I'm just like and it's it just carries from there like I know these guys got my back. I got back the whole way and I know when I got on that amount. It's like don't mess with me so just carries out the whole thing and I'm not GonNa you know whatever but it just Duchess where I'm at and that's that's state but it's a powerful thing. I don't think everybody does that style. Everybody's different everybody needs differently. Yeah Yeah Yeah that's true that's true so so let me ask you about this. You're so I love this. I mean that it's great that you're so good because the F- your words carry more weight as a guy who's already a star in the game diabetic feeling going to have an incredible career and who knows where that winds up could wind up in upstate. New York and so when I say that your candidate with a few things and certainly with compensation like it's I mean. Listen as a cardinal fan. I'm thrilled that they can afford to have your for a few more years but in principle. It's just totally out of you know it's wrong that you're one of the best pitchers in the game and you guys are in the spot that you're in. So how do you? How do you view the current structure because there is a there is a labor situation lurking in a couple of years? And you don't hesitate to to voice your opinion on social media about this. I just think as a player or in any job or whatever you have you have to understand the way things work and you don't have an understanding what are you doing Are you just going about letting other people make decisions that are GonNa Ultimately Affect Your career? You should have an understanding of what you're doing and what you need to do and what Kinda goes on so for me. It's just about having understanding and look the Labor situation is what it is you know. The control is what it is and there's nothing you can do about it right. Now is a young. How you can do is understand what is going to come in a few years and try to have a an understanding of what it is but also try to understanding of your worth in your value and You know whatever you feel that's at you know don't sell yourself short. Never say so short and anything you do But also understand why you do what you do And I don't play this. I've never played this game for the money or for. What can baseball do for me? I've played this game. 'cause I love it and I'm not getting up at six. Am and offseason. Because unlike common ago I need to go get money. No I'm doing it for these guys and for just my own mental state in for the work ethic that I WANNA put in. I'm not doing you. Don't get up at five. Am like Oh. I can go get your pay. That's not going to get you up in the morning. And you gotta you gotta understand. What's your why. Why do you do what you do? You know in whatever that is whatever that is for you really understand what it is and you know but also remember why you started playing the game while you do love it. Do you really love the game because if you do you're going to get up and do the work if you don't and you're in it for other things you probably take that damn you know. I'm just not I'm not here today. We're GONNA take the day. Yeah and you're going to have a bad day you're gonNA get rocked if the cardinals came knocking on your door. And who knows maybe they already have and said. Hey we see what you got. We got some money. What's walk you in? Would that be something you'd be interested in I mean you know it's never something you're gonna you're gonNA shy away from but I don't. I'm not really focused on right now. You know whatever happens happens. I don't I can't control anything that goes on. All I can do is go and play the game. Yeah And one final line of questioning here. What took place in the off season with the cheating scandals? One of them down the road here fifteen minutes and then one of them across the state and who knows where else talking to some of your teammates or like yeah. I mean the Astros but guys. There's there's some other ones that you haven't heard the names yet Look for your former teammate. He came into the studio. This off season Saint Louis Bs with him and I said what's your reaction. I know you're on the Seventeen Yankees. You're at the cardinals but you know those guys in there and he paused and he goes. It's about time goes because we knew I mean people knew about it. You're a pitcher. Though you know what do you think about that People talk man and yeah you know and and you can you knew when it came out that the nationals were informed going into the series now day New People you guys had you beat the nationals Hewitt or no I mean you look look around Lee Guys. Talk in the you go into a city. You're unfamiliar with you. Might reach out to somebody and say hey. Do we need to be careful And it's one of those things where I've tried to not read all the stuff in the full story in what teams might be involved but whatever it is like the game is the game is the game. I understand trying to gain a competitive advantage but when it gets to that point it turns into something completely different. So that's the hard part to swallow where you know. You WanNa do whatever you can to to gain advantage but at some point you do you do cross the line. I mean I like you specifically like if you won the CY young but in the back of your mind now you wouldn't do it. I just can't ever picture you doing it just because your makeup but if you're like yeah I did this and gave me an advantage and I won the Cy Young. It would each. You wouldn't want it. You wouldn't want it that way. It's not your not your modus operandi. That's game yeah I mean it it just as the whole thing. If you're in whatever you do you never wanNA cheat yourself. You don't WANNA CHEAT THE GAME. You know you WanNa you just. WanNa play the game the right way and especially for those are those around you and your family and whoever's close in in your corner like you know you always want them to trust you I it's just one of those things. It's it's unfortunate. It sucks to hear. Come out. We still don't even know what's true. I don't know how we don't know what's all true like or how it's coming out three years later. Right Right What has MLB known? I don't know I I try to stay out of it. I don't like to read stuff. I kind of do you intentionally. Do you avoid crap in general or specifically on this stuff and I try to avoid stuff in general. It's just like there's noise is noise this other stuff. All you can do is worry about your business now again stuff like that when it affects people's careers and whatnot. That sucks. You hate to hear that you hate to like the guy who got rock and then he never pitches now and you hear guy like Freddy Freeman. Tell the story about Kris medlen and that kind of breaks your heart because Freddy got emotional. You know just from what I've heard from Max. He's my boy. He's like Freddie. Great Guy to hear that kind of thing about he's talked about Medlin and you know he works so hard to get back then. He goes in there and he gets rocked. And that was that was. It was a and you can see how it affects. Certain guys careers and It sucks but again. We don't know what was going on. I really don't know I don't know how much we don't know how much I'm GonNa be knows. We just can take what they give us and continue to be cautious when you go certain place and you guys counter it with the cards. That's the best way to try to counter switch it up neutrality. Went without signs and Pittsburgh before you do what you do. Whatever you can to try to counter it you know. And and Could you hit in the majors? If you were. If you knew what was coming it would make it easier. I genuinely have this discussion with a another family friend. Should have been in the hall of fame about and and he hit two nine in his career and he all he was like he was he was saying he was like. It doesn't help that much said. Do you think you would have hit three hunt? Do you would've got that extra at least three zero five three ten if you knew what was coming. Let's say let's just say was seventy percent in time same sometime. You knew what was coming. You Gotten Twenty five thirty more hits and would hit a three hundred on your Probably that's argument. Yeah that's all that's all it is and then he finally kind of came round understood he still says you still got a hidden. I understand you still gotta hit the ball. What gives you a better chance if you know. It's coming so we went back and forth for tricking. And that's why this one. I'm surprised I mean like I mean I'm not looking at you still have to hit the ball. I get it. Yeah but you know it's like you're getting paid if you know it's coming you know in. I realize I'm naming names your nap but like for all too vague to pull a chapman slider. That's outside you're kind of going. That's that's surprising surprising in the moment. Now that you know what you know man. What in the world. It's just something that point you're playing you're playing you're playing. It'll be the show where you know what I guess pitch. I know it's GonNa go this way. And what like if I knew what you were guessing? Throw the other game. I can't get into your head but you know you know what I'm saying like if I if I get it with runner on second if they get it that's a whole different ball game you gain the advantage. You get a gone second. We have to work really hard with the catcher to combat that but with nobody on. I'm I have the advantage. You'd better run on I. I still should not on second base. So that's my I got nobody on base. This is like I get the advantage. You know the cameras are in different world in all right quick hitters. Get you out of here on this favorite restaurant in Saint Louis Patties. Oh isn't it. So what do you get there? What's going on when you go there?.

"DOT COM. Nothing typifies Jack Clarity. More than just kind of a little little daig on twitter right after some breaking news and baseball. That's just kind of the way he operates and on Saturday afternoon. Carlos Correa did an interview with Ken. Rosenthal the MLB network on the Astro Scandal and Korea was critical of cody. Bellinger for saying that Jose altuve stole the MVP 2017 from Aaron Judge and that the Astros stole the world series from the dodgers and Korea attempting to defend his teammate. Altuve Eh and his teammates with An interview with Rosenthal said I have no problem with people giving us trouble about what happened. Two thousand seventeen were wrong. But cody bellinger's responsibility is to get the facts. And he is saying some things that are factually inaccurate and Jack Flaherty Without directing it just tweets out right. Is that interview comes out. Give us the facts. Then that's his style we talk about the Astros and the cheating scandal in this interview but we start things off with something in. Saint Louis was certainly huge deal. But we're Jack Flaherty was born and raised. Was the biggest deal in. That is the passing of Kobe Bryant. Last month Jack. Flaherty took a lot of the intensity in the way he practices and plays the game growing up in Los Angeles from watching Kobe Bryant. And that's where we start our conversation this week from the home loan expert Dot Com studios with Cardinal Starter. Jack Flaherty Jack. What's up man? I'm doing pretty good. Yeah thank you so much for sitting down with me here. I know you're big. La Guy. And I want to start with this. What happened a few weeks ago with Kobe? Bryant and how that hits YOU BECAUSE PEOPLE SAINT LOUIS NO NBA team. Kind of rock them. But for somebody like you as a fan what that what that meant because I saw a lot of your social media and talking about it. So what does that mean to you? What do you mean when you you know coming up Kobe was a guy for me. Those really easy to to gravitate to in To really look up to as a as a player Especially growing up in La and those kind of right as I was growing up and was going through middle school and an elementary school in high school. And now Dow's that was the guy you know. I played ball growing up One of my best friends on the team who you know we kind of pushed each other and we talked about it once had happened. I we we talked to him because I knew that his guy he slept under seven pictures of Kobe right above his bed and we talked about just the way I thanked him for for pushing me in that aspect on the court just mentally. It helped me more than anything But again that goes back to Cobra's his guy covers Mike Golic. That's just who we we looked up to and that's the guy that we not even for me not from Basle standpoint but just from a mental standpoint and a work ethic standpoint with somebody I could look at and try to emulate and you know hearing. That news was just just hitch a hard and it was really numbing. It was it was just one of those deals where you remember where you were realised weeks ago now but as you probably will always all remember all remember that day and just the feelings and I had a couple of people that knew that had personal relationship with him so I went over there check on them and just kind of hung out with them today. Dang flows with one of my one of my best friends who is a huge colby. Guys together Yeah air is just one of those things that you feel it all. La You could feel that interest was there was a hole in in Los Angeles. Yeah that's what I was. That's what I was wondering about. I mean you know I'm I'm forty three and I guess the parallel would be if something happened to Jordan like a handful years after his career and he started to be able to enjoy his kids and it would have dislike wrecked me and you especially going up there and then also I do feel like there. Is the famous Mama mentality that you do personify that from a baseball standpoint. That's the thing that kind of stood out to me when I saw you post on white man you know. I don't know Jack. Well he's been on the show but it's like this dudes intense competitor. I wonder how much of what you saw from him. When you were going up a Laker fan has translated what you're doing now when you're out on the mound so much. I like two years ago all spring training and doing it again like I started watching all these interviews on how he talked and how he talked about his work ethic and watching his muse documentary and just listening to the way that he talked about certain things how we talk about work ethic. I talk about preparation. How he talked about you know working hard. Let your hard work. Never sought US hard work Because he loved it yeah because he loves it and you know he just knew like she would do whatever he had to do in order to go out and and be better next year and Never forgetting the basics as well. He always went back to the basics. And that's something that I've been told was remember the basics and go back to the basics when things start going wrong but never never lose that so his whole Mama mentality his work ethic the he was on the core and his intensity and his focus and his concentration level was always at the top. Now he'd never stray away from that he was always there. You know maybe at the very end of his career you could see it a little bit. In his last year with his last go around he started to smile a little bit more and take it all in but when he is in the middle of his career kill. Kill Kill and for me. That's kind of been trying to find that zone and not feeling of where it just kind of all it is is your instincts and your only instinct does go out attack in you know kill. Yeah so just taking that from him and continuing to try to find that zone in that mental head. Space of being locked in where? There's kind of that my mom talks about. She's like you can just see the look on your face. I know is going to be a good. Darren how it's going to be really really and you know. Sometimes you have that. Look she's like you have that look and sometimes you know you're not always going to execute not going to be a great day but I know from get go that you're there mentally and you're able to walk away from the day no matter what and you're going to feel good about trying to find that head space in that that zone that he seemed always get into the thing that I thought was interesting. I was talking to your teammates and I said you know I mean I figure in the locker room. What do we know but the leaders are going to be mylene. Wainwright seems obvious. But everybody named you as well and and I the only reason I go. I'm surprised by that is usually somebody who's been in the game for ten years twelve years but here you are young guy certainly incredibly accomplished already but people already are looking to you. Not just because I think that numbers you're putting up but because of the way you carry yourself it commands respect from teams guys who are obviously plenty of Monroe older than you I for me. I just take from from guys that you watch that I've been able to watch in Yada and Ueno and talking there when big Chris Carpenter was there and just being able to watch how they work. And how they went about their business and their focus in their level of of preparation they would do and try to emulate that you see on every day and how much work he puts in just to be ready for that fifth day. And how much work he puts in on that fifth day to prepare and no things in just trying to pick their brain and seeing how Yati goes about his stuff you see how much work he puts in nausea when he comes in and he's you know he's the most in shape guy here is thirty six thirty seven is your destiny man. Yeah just WANNA beat. You're just like I'm going to be better than him only spring and I'm going to work harder than he did and then in season like I'm GonNa put in the work and do whatever I have to do to get ready for that fifth day and make sure that it carries out the whole season. Do you love the work like like literally like love the work? I can't wait to get in a session. I can't wait deliver. Can't to run or whatever it is that you're doing it's one of those things that it's it's grown on me more and more than more than I'm just Kinda gone up earlier and earlier in spring training and even in the off season The work that I put in when I'm getting up and you know the long days and going about it getting home late and but mentally staying in it the next day and You know some days you get home. You're exhausted you're like man. I'm tired and you realize I gotta go do it again the next day and that's more the offseason grind in season is just the day-to-day but it. It's IT'S YOURS. GotTa find a way to compete against yourself. You know you compete against the guy next you to compete against yourself and you know. There's there's a I don't remember the quote exactly but I'm always watching different videos online and In key Johnson he talks about he talks about going out and you know when he was young he would be he would he would go run in the streets or whatever in like five. Am and I think it was his dad. Uncle he talks about you know I. It's something like I need you to compete better than yourself or be better than yourself. And he didn't understand and what what he was saying. There's always somebody inside of you. That's competing harder But you need to compete harder than the other person's side you see college compete against but there's always a different level you can tap into. Yeah so when you're like like people talk about like what Tiger or Jordan or Kobe. Take your pick. Whoever we're GONNA talk about like there's never satisfied. You know always okay. I can win more. I gotTa win more. It's like an addiction. Do you think you have that kind of thing going on like you. Just on a quest. You know there's gotTa be you know championship Cy Youngs. Whatever I don't care I gotta be the best I just want to win the day. You know. The individual Steph will take care of itself but winning and winning with this group and with these guys and Duchess seems like the most fun..

Dodgers Acquire 2018 AL MVP Mookie Betts, 2012 Cy Young Winner David Price
"And despite the fact that it seems there is in some cases a assumption that Mookie Betts was going to leave the red Sox that he was not going to re sign with the red Sox that maybe even if he did entertain an extension of the red Sox it wouldn't come until after this year when he was in free agency in hearing from multiple teams I still cannot wrap my head around the Boston Red Sox trading him for what they traded him like I get it you've got some prospects you get ready David prices money get Alex Verdugo you got two more prospects Jeter downs a short stop and Connor won a catcher from LA because of Bruce star Greta Rawls medicals Boston wanted out of that so can smite it goes to the twins and greater all and another prospect go to Los Angeles the red Sox then pick up eight shortstop Jeter downs that was drafted thirty second by the Reds in twenty seventeen and then shipped to LA in the week deal and also Conor want a third round pick in twenty seventeen out of university of Houston like even if those guys end up being every day big leaguers which still you know not a given just because of the nature of Major League Baseball how hard it is for guys to not just get to the big leagues but then become every day guys and much less all star caliber guys even if that happens you're still trading M. V. P. you still trade in MVP this might actually be a bit of a better deal because of the fact the greater all is said Tommy John surgery but you know it was just the red Sox wanting to get under the luxury tax and move an asset that just about everyone it seems new was going to be moved and I just can't buy into them having no choice can't I can not buy into their hands being tied and having to make this deal so you know the cardinals will have some interesting now I guess guys in that vein moving forward the most notably potentially Jack Flaherty Ben Fredrickson regret piece in the post dispatch it was yesterday my days are all messed up and everything was yesterday Sunday on you know if now would be the time to try and get the spring extension done with flirty I don't know Flaherty would listen right now but if they could try to lock him up in la command if your picture maybe the security is a lot more appealing than if your position player because of the risk of injury but maybe Jack Flaherty won't entertain that we've seen you know the extensions of the last few years we've seen the pre are extensions with Matt carpenter back in twenty years at fourteen fifteen with Paul the young with cold warm we then saw Mao's Michaelis get his extension from the cardinals last spring that we saw the carpenter extension at start of the season last year although that's apples and oranges because again that wasn't a pre RBL he already got that but I just don't know if you will see guys continued to be eager to take those deals are feel see guys move towards free agency but either way I still think it's bad for the game bad for the sport bad for fans but the red Sox just kind of gave up I'm trying to figure out making it work with Mookie Betts instead cash in their chips to get under the luxury tax and you know get some prospects back prospector that you know I I totally understand not one to give guys away but you know it's almost the flip side this time almost like they're valuing that controlling get under the tax more than they value and I don't know I for one just as a fan as a baseball fan you know it's not great great for the Dodgers great for the Dodgers and they've got a heck of a line up

L. he's been in just about every game not just working with flirty in the rest of the pitching staff but he's got as hot a bad as anyone in baseball right now he does he he's aged has a knack for coming through in the big moment and and when when you look at where the cardinals are right now in them really needing somebody to step up yeah. the perfect guy to do that in situations where other games online and then you know we catch the whole game thank you gonna get a get him off and then also in the back of get heard he's right back in there and the sick of it in the eighth inning in a big situation and then got to come through there know what he's going to catch a couple more games in the next twenty four hours as well so he's been he's been awesome great to have a back in in refreshed you know you've been out for awhile. as for the stretch run which I think is really important yeah that now how about the job that Mike shelter his staff did we've talked about their management of the pitching this year but really managing the whole roster of the weekend doubleheader Saturday double header Sunday day game yesterday they got through that gauntlet it seems like in pretty good shape and now we're into September and just looking forward to seeing the way they continue to manage the roster in a game to game basis they did a great job but they was that the team made it easy on a buy one of those first three fourths game you could put some guys in there they would have been you know lost those three it would have been a lot harder on him to take them those guys out so kudos to those guys for going out there playing hard get most about and then you knew not that you're gonna ever take a game off or allow guys to go out there not thinking you have a good chance to win but you have to pick your spots to give guys a break and I thought that was a great opportunity to do it after they had just played so well for those three games got those when and I went out there and and just unfortunate when a local I. locks on office still played really well hi cow we appreciate a man is always the game plan brought to us by step up an official partner of the St Louis cardinals let's get another win make it seventy eight on the year we'll talk tomorrow all right thanks Chris. hi when we come back we'll turn it back over to Mike Claiborne examined total access cruise review with you back in a moment the cardinals radio network. as a tech car racer Alain Larson.

It means the come speak Torius. They beat the cardinals nine four and you start on the mound. John Lester was rocky early, but settled into a good groove and the cardinals. After that, first explosion for held scoreless the rest of the way. Yeah. And that can be extremely frustrating for a team and for an offense when you look at hey, we had this guy's number and perhaps got a little too relaxed, or complacent after that, first any you can't let a picture like John Lester of his. Caliber, he's done this too many times to come out, maybe have a rough ending or so. And then you look up he's handed the ball to skipper in the seventh inning or so because they settle and get their groove and plug on down the road. And that's exactly what John, Lester did they got some good offense behind him which was some hope to, to perhaps get back in the ball game. And you got credit the cubs. They did an outstanding job of not allowing that top of the first inning to bury them. And thank all here we go. We're just gonna get ready for tomorrow. "Brought to you by western and southern financial group helping to make Cincinnati the best place to live work in really enjoy life for the reds. It's sunny gray. He's Owen three with a three point six five ERA and grey retired twelve the first fourteen batters on Tuesday against the Braves that was a seven to six reds victory. But he got a no decision and he finished with nine strikeouts. But he was chased during a three run sixth inning in gray hit a lot of life on his fastball throughout and that was definitely encouraging now the deal with. Hey is after lasting only two and two thirds innings in his first start way back in March. He's put together a really solid April. A three point two seven ERA in four April starts in his last start that no decision against the Braves. He allowed four runs in five and a third innings after that great start there and he did strike out nine batters without walking anybody. So I'm just looking forward for sunny. Great ticket his first victory as a Cincinnati Reds. He is pitched well enough, and you just wonder to Slyke toddler Maui yesterday. Is that one big mistake every game this cost him, so Sony gray? But when three three point six five ERA going for the reds and going against the reds today is Jack Flaherty. He's too in one with a five point two five ERA Flaherty who was given up seven home runs in his first five starts. He definitely needs to do. A better job keeping the ball in the park in. Is efficiency. So that he could start pitching deeper into games. He's yet to get an out beyond the sixth inning this year Jack Flaherty, but he still has a two in one record. So that you're starting pitchers and looking back this weekend the reds had that huge win on Friday night, twelve to one five home runs. It was just awesome display. And then you worried that hey, you wish they could have saved a few runs for Tyler Malley yesterday. Well, and they fall six to three, but they held a to nothing lead in. That was what's so frustrating. Things started well for the reds, but didn't end will jump into that two to nothing lead with RBI singles by Jose Peraza. Nee you Haney swore as in the third inning. They couldn't hold that lead. And then it was Marcel ozone as back that really did the reds in yesterday the cardinals cleanup hitter he unleashed a three run home run in the third inning. And then unloaded a two run double in the fifth. He wound up. Going two for four with five RBI's and a run scored is the cardinals improved to sixteen and ten the reds falling to eleven and fifteen and Molly absorb the loss. He's now oh in three giving up five runs on seven hits in five innings with three walks to strike outs in a home run in his IRA. Now Malley is four point five. Oh, so the Reggie rub. For twelve runs Friday night. You wish they had saved a few runs for Tyler Malley yesterday. Hopefully, they can get back on track today. And again this season for every run batted in by Cincinnati's cleanup hitter. Rump. Key waste and recycling is keeping your neighborhood clean with a one hundred dollars donation to keep America beautiful rump. Key reminds you to do your part to protect the environment start recycling in today's cleanup hitter for yours. Mine and our Cincinnati Reds Yasuo Puig now is only batting. His average to five unsightly, but he starting to come around. He's got four home runs fifteen RBI's, and he has a couple of stolen bases. So Yasuo Puig is today's cleanup hitter. And just a reminder did if you're headed to a game any game today. Please choose a designated driver drive sober or get pulled over a message from the Ohio two parts of public safety. So Sonny gray tremendous talent. He comes to the reds from the New York Yankees. And you just want him to enjoy. His first victory is a member of the Cincinnati Reds going against Jack Flaherty of the cardinals. And I will say this about Saint Louis after getting hammered twelve to one on Friday night. This is a franchise with a ton of pride, and you can just imagine. What yada? Your Molina was thinking and feeling after getting bludgeoned by eleven runs on Friday night. He wanted the corner. Coming back strong. And that's what they did. They rebounded strong came back in one six to three. Now, it's time for the rubber match today to fifteen first pitch Busch stadium. "Well, he's a tremendous defensive player. Knowing our not defensively he's not that authencity because he doesn't play in the same ballpark. If you haven't played course feeling might be putting up those numbers. I think part of this hands on where he bats in the order. He bats second. Again. He's not gonna knock in a lot of runs. Either of you have any strong feelings here on metro. I actually do I love this guy was my my my player last season. He changes game a lot of he lowered his launch angle a lot. Remember, he was a big power guy who did it at the expense of batting averages. Five point two degree launching drop. Last year is the seventh largest drop of any player qualified. So he was going more from line drives and raising the batting average. And he actually did not give up all that much power. I call this an improving player. I do think you should be drafting him treating him valuing him around way finish on the player raider. But I think there's growth potential here. And you know, we say not necessarily look at batting average. When you're looking at points league's players, but it is something to to notice when you're talking about a guy who you would not be surprised to hit two seventy wouldn't shock you from that Chapman. Throw that into a point sleep format. And you're definitely looking at someone who probably should be taken sooner rather than later. Absolute. What are we got this building on that AJ mentioned the batting average Chapman hit to seventy eight for the year. But three oh nine in the second half. Which do you think he's closer to this year? Bad second. I think he saw different pitches. That's possible. He kinda short in the swing. He cut five percent off his caring. I mean, I think he's emerging into a potential thirty thirty five home run guy. That's two seventy and that would be tough fifty player for sure. I mean, we're talking maybe are not a lot. Of course field is this what Nolan are not. I would look like out of course field. And by the way, Aaron auto out, of course field you you wouldn't take him in the first round. No, I think you take him in the second round. I still think he'd be an exceptional player, but the batting average would tumble a little bit. All right. What's next? All right. Mark wants to know congenial. Tyrone continue to make the leap forward and potentially be a top fifteen pitcher then along with that you want to know if you want tight on Jack flirty in dynasty league. Either strong feelings those pictures, I am a big Jack Flaherty fan. I was a little surprised to see the rankings of not just you guys. But like other people don't seem to like flowers much as I do wondering, why that is strikeout rate concerns is operatives obviously there, but which of you got either you have Tyler Flaherty ranked a lot ahead of the other. I mean, it's ten spots a lot. Yeah. Lot over flower flower to and for me, it's because one of the major stats appoints league when I look at pictures, it's the Kate Abebe rate, and if it is a far below three fifty three point five is like the line, and we're projecting pretty much already to be under three. That's not a place. You wanna be? He just walks are too many hitters. He's one of those ten caper nine guys. So that that's an issue for me. Where's the guy like, Tyrone? "A saint louis cardinals jay not a good result in san francisco yesterday what happened to jack flaherty ugly partos off tonight white sox tomorrow and then they're they're not here very often i think they're back home for a few games and they hit the road again we'll have chris rabi i believe on that a little bit later this afternoon in the next hour here on kmox and don't forget the supreme court pick coming up tonight layer that live because we don't have baseball so you here cbs coverage of that coming up eight o'clock tonight and some analysis afterwards there was a story that sort of piqued my interest last week about the faa and ruling about shrinking seats on an airplane because in this isn't only the size of the that your buddies in but it's also the legroom that you have the the rose have been really come as no surprise to people who travel on a regular basis but the distance between the rows has been decrease in the seat size decrease so there was a request by a group out there to get the faa involved and they said nope not our deal that is not something that we really are going to rule on in we'll we'll talk about that a little bit and also there's a there's a room out there about a new iphone that is a budget version of the x or the ten or whatever you wanna call from cnn with me a little bit later this afternoon our buddy scott jennings with us this afternoon you often see him on cnn he's from kentucky and run switch pr one of our political insider scott how are you mark i'm great man thanks for having me i'm going to start calling you brother scott because that's what eric michael dyson calls you on cnn you've been tangling lot lately have you noticed that i know in the big is i try to sort of be the friendly republican pundit but the heat drawing me into these these fights on television and i don't think we accomplished much when we wind up hollering each other but you know i guess that's the way they want it right now well i think that is the way that they wanted and i i guess the latest exchange from last week had to do with the he was trying to hit you on the allegation that you were not criticizing trump hard enough on some of these race issues if i'm not mistaken which is shocking from you know eric michael dyson right well his basic assertion was that if you are a republican conservative or anyone who voted for donald trump then you are complicit in and therefore worse than being a racist which i strongly reject i mean i you know i know who i am and i know who i am not and i don't eat some bob way to come on television and tell me you know i'm a racist and so in and the american left wants to label the entire conservative movement all the republicans whoever is racist if they won't conform to their views of donald trump and and i'm just not going to have it and i don't think most republicans are going to have it and i also think democrats if they continue to use that argument or going to be very disappointed in the electoral results in twenty four yeah you know it goes a step further than that because not only racism now for the most part i think you're you're being called the nazi you know certainly by the younger the younger active people in politics they think that anyone who may hold beliefs different different from theirs or if you even side with president trump on any kind of policy you're you're racist nazi yeah in that particular segment and in other segments of of a comparable nature when you see people trying to be rate trump supporters or republicans or whoever into seeing it their way but i would just submit that reasonable people can have disagreements on politics and if you find yourself in a disagreement you can do one of two things except the disagreement.

"Have a day off today here in minneapolis and will play the twins two games beginning tomorrow night cardinals need to find ways to score more runs they need more spots in their lineup where there aren't odors going on mike metheny may juggle that lineup a bit more it's jack flirty making the start tomorrow night coming back from the minors his own one and we're on the air at six fifteen and let's hear from fini now you know he was he fought all the way through obviously to say you didn't have as good stuff that's not even accurate i mean he was just trying to make things up to make it work amazingly through the first two he got out good defensive positioning but you know that's not that's not the picture that he is and found out later that barking on him a little bit so we got out and sent back to get reevaluated talking about adam wainwright and we'll see what's next for him the cardinal's is john mentioned have jack flaherty on the mound tomorrow as they take on the twins up in minnesota meanwhile alex radius is going to start tonight a six thirty start for peoria so he moves from palm beach to the peoria chiefs to make a start he's continuing to work in rehab starts to get himself back after tommy john surgery so the cardinals that have yet another starter to choose from and the number one prospect in their system webb simpson navigated his way through a few mistakes but not too much stress to win the players championship he had a seven shot lead no one got closer than four shots of them even after a double bogey on the eighteenth when he's only concern was finishing the whole tiger woods made another big ron that revved up the crowd but had a water mishap on the treacherous seventeenth in island parthree and ends up in contention but not winning the players championship that goes to webb simpson in hockey the capital's win again they'd be tampa bay sixty two they take to lead the eastern conference finals in the nba eastern conference finals the boston celtics win game one one eight eighty three over.
