"jack dorsey zuckerberg" Discussed on The Joe Pags Show

"To have you here really glad to have this guy back. He's a commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission. It's Brendan Carbon and how are you? Good any back with Joe. Thanks for having me. There's so much going on I always appreciate you finding some time for me, and for my listeners for my viewers a lot going on. In fact, you just made me aware of something. I didn't know right before we did this interview at about five o'clock on eastern time on Tuesday. Twitter once again is flagged one of the president's tweets. We did he tweet this time. Yeah it looks like twitter has gone on tilt once again, so president trump tweeted at If anyone tries ton zone inside of Washington DC that it's not going to happen while he's president, and those efforts will be met with serious force, he said which I think everybody interprets, says if there's be lawless writing and buying behavior like we saw last night in Washington DC attempt to establish a tournament zone and tear down statutes as happened last night, the police is. Is going to step in and make sure that order is restored well. Twitter decided to go after the president once again labeled that tweet as a violation of its policy against abusive behavior once again. It's really hard to line up how that makes sense under its policy, and that's an issue where any business in this country. If you hold yourself outs a terms of service, you're accountable for fulfilling those obligations in really hard to see how that lines up here. We think about it I if I as a business owner say we've gotten some threats that you're going to try to do something in my business. I've just letting you know if you try. We're going to use force to stop you. That's against the law, but actually trying to take over my business isn't because you and I both know twitter has been used as a tool and a vehicle in vessel through which these chop and chas in these autonomous zone. Idiots are are actually telling each other where to go and what to do. You're exactly right. The hypocrisy here is so Stein not only that, but you look at the Khameini. HIMSELF WHO's on this platform. If you look at you know the Chinese propagandists. They're out there putting misinformation out there. They're allowed to speak freely on this never seen a label from twitter safety on top of end. So this seems like a partisan political agenda. Look. Maybe they can do that right everyone. I met right in this country, but you can't run roughshod over your terms of service. Service just to settle partisan political scores and man. It sure looks like what's going on here and the president recently did that to thirty thing where where he said listen, you're a platform. You're not a not really a town hall. You're not really an open forum. Unbiased would literally can be done and according to what he did about two or three or four weeks ago because nothing has really changed in fact, it looks like as you said. Twitter has gone on tilt and they've really raised the game. Essentially to threes interesting. This was a law passed in one, thousand, nine hundred. Special immunity to essentially Internet platforms to engage in content moderation flash forward from the one thousand, nine hundred and those prodigy and compuserve messaging boards are now the most powerful corporations in the world wielding immense save over what you can say on the Internet so I think it's time to update our coaches sexy to thirty. The president's executive order calls for a petition for rulemaking to be filed at the FCC that hasn't happened yet. There's number of days still petition comes in once. That petition comes in I very much. Look forward to taking that up and taking some action. Cargo follow him. It's at Brendan Carr FCC on twitter. Great followed by the way your life has been threatened. You've been threatened by the CCP and I don't think twitter band or blocked anybody there and not only they flagged anything. They're saying heinous violent, but but but that's I. We've learned to accept it hopefully. We don't have to because this executive order in. Maybe when you guys get the review at the FCC. Something can be done. Done, let's switch over to facebook. Project Veritas James O'Keefe doing another great job. They get somebody who was on the inside at facebook worked in Tampa who knows about these these different sections that we don't get to see their internal sections that say watch this Guy Watch this content than an algorithm was made to to block certain content Knopfler, a block, other content and one of us an example of a couple of pictures that that. That were either allowed or disallowed. There's one picture that was a coffee house where the depictions somebody holding the president's hair and cutting cutting his his neck, basically in an effort to cut his head off, and it says the F. Word trump, but I think the US blocked out or something that was said leave it alone. This is ignore. This is not a delete. This is fine. This does not go against terms of service there was. was another picture where Elmer Fudd the cartoon character is reacting debatable roar. WHO's an anti gun guy by by? You know firing off his cartoon. Shotgun at bit works face. That was disallowed, so you can, you can feign violence and depict violence against the president. That's fine. You can't depict violence against somebody who was a leading liberal who was running for president. That's not fine. That's clearly not unbiased can be done about that if anything. Twitter's made public representations that they are not a politically biased platform at they're open to a diverse set of political views and these days. It's really hard to even get that out there with a straight base. Out there or a neutral platform, and then as a reporter, others show there in fact, engaged in systemic bias against conservatives. Then I think there should be some accountability that could be a federal. Trade Commission Action Could Be Department of Justice, looking at some of the competitive aspects of what's going on here, but no business gets to represent the congress and the public. Come here, use our service. Here's how it's going to be an then. Engage in sort of underhanded tactics to be biased against either conservatives or Democrats at the end of the day. This was from facebook and this guy who worked at facebook said they literally would say if I see you wearing a mad. I'm going to delete the post. They they all they also. His report was in his make sense. Mark Zuckerberg one in front of Congress and lied. He said it was unbiased. There is no political bias. This guy says the algorithm was made by people at. At facebook, and the Algorithm in fact does seventy five to eighty percent hold bias against Conservatives and Republicans, and it doesn't against Liberals and Democrats I mean. Is there anything with him lying to Congress or are we to believe the Mark Zuckerberg? The boss, the CEO The guy who's the head of this whole thing? The head of the snake doesn't know what they're doing beneath them. Yeah. I think it's really hard to go before Congress under oath. If the thrust of what they're testifying to is hey, the upshot of all of our algorithms and other content moderation is a neutral result for all political viewpoints that they're saying that the congress and in fact what's going on, we're seeing some of those reports hard to see that that's being very truthful to Congress now I think I think Zuckerberg's instinct. Actually a lot of this has been right. He's been in a very different place than Jack Dorsey Zuckerberg and said Look My. My job isn't to sort of used this platform to pursue my own partisan political agenda whatever that may be, it's to be a leader of an organization that's supposed to embrace free speech. I think that's the right call and sucker. I can get some criticism for that. I think this is time for all of us to stand up this movement. We're seeing right now. This country started in the safe-space movement. Colleges moved to social media has gone to the C. Suite and was in media organization. This idea that we have to have group thing. We need to get back to embracing diversity of thought a diversity of ideas, but if you have a diversity of thought and ideas, you're a racist white supremacist. You're a hater. You're a woman, hater, your and all these names they call. It really does shutdown. People might agree with you and me, but it shuts them down because they're afraid of what they'll be called, and they want us to be part of the community. It is Brendan Carr. He's FCC Commissioner. Go following right now at Brendan Carr FCC. Let's talk about the trump campaign using this emoji. It was a downward pointing triangle. It was read I took it as a downward pointing Arrow that you should take action down below. I went on twitter when this whole thing blew up and and I was able to find that very emoji with an upward facing triangle on twitter in the emojis section and the character section that day I actually took a screen shot and posted. Posted thinking the twitter might take it down so the idea that somehow the trump campaign was using a Nazi slogan that meant.

"Head of this whole thing the head of the snake doesn't know what they're doing but he thought yeah I think it's really hard to go before Congress under oath and if the thrust of what they're testifying to is eight the upshot of all of our algorithms in the other content moderation is a neutral result for all political viewpoints that they're saying that the Congress in fact what's going on as we're seeing in some of those reports Hardesty that's being very truthful to Congress now I think I think Zuckerberg instinctual lot of this has been right he's been in a very different place than Jack Dorsey Zuckerberg has said look my job isn't to sort of use this platform to pursue my own partisan political agenda whatever that may be it's to be a leader of an organization that's supposed to embrace free speech I think that's the right call in in separate getting criticism for that I think this is time for all of us to stand up with this movement we're seeing right now this country started that safe space movement colleges move to social media has gone to the C. suite it was stab wishes media organizations this idea that we have to have group think we need to get back to embracing a diversity of thought and diversity of ideas yeah but if you have a diversity of of thought and ideas you're a racist or white supremacist you're a hater you're a woman here you're ever at all these names they call it really does shut down people who might agree with you and me but it shuts them down because they're afraid of what will be called and they want to still be part of the community it is Brendan Carr he's FTC commissioner go follow them right now at Brendan Carr FCC let's talk about the trump campaign using this emoji it was a downward pointing triangle it was red I took it as a downward pointing arrow that you should take action down below I went on Twitter when this whole thing blew up and and I was able to find that very emoji along with an upward facing triangle on Twitter in the emoji section in the character section that day I actually took a screenshot and posted thank you at Twitter might take it down so the idea that somehow the trump campaign was using a **** slogan that meant hate and and genocide in a campaign that is stupid but what happened was social media blocked it they said we took it down for hate speech so maybe understand I can use that emoji on the platform but if I use it on the platform it's hate speech yeah this is interesting so the at the triangle knows that you're referencing the trump campaign described as being an antique assemble that's my understanding of it is well I've never known it to be anything other than that as you point out that red triangle is MO DS currently available on all of these platforms I think this just goes to the broader issue we shouldn't have so much speech police going on right now I think we need to go back to empowering people to make their own decisions if you don't want to see a trump campaign at point cook it unsubscribe from it but I think even section two thirty talk about empowering users to their own content moderation I think as we look at reform to section two thirty when you get back that core purpose of the law well that's exactly right I want people to complain if it bothers them I went to I won't be able sell like if they like it what I don't want the social media platform to do to say I'm going to delete it because we found out somehow that emoji available on our platform is a **** symbol why are you offering **** symbols on the platform if that's the case and I don't know about you I mean I I know a little bit about history I never ever ever saw a downward facing triangle as a **** slogan I mean I I thought the swastika was the the **** slogan of the SS was a **** slogan so again you when I realized that I want those who are watching and listening to have the freedom to say I like it I don't like it I want to see it I don't want to see it I want to eat there I don't want to eat there and make a consumer decision I don't want the platform to be the overlord to say I'm going to protect you from that does that make sense yeah look there's a lot of people in DC that are sort of paid to defend the status quo in terms of the special two thirty protection that platforms apps I think you're seeing every single day that goes by one or two of these people are thronging the talents they look I just can't defend how far these platforms are going I think it is time for some additional scrutiny there's growing bipartisan consensus for that so I hope we do see that but one last thing before I let you go it's running car from the FCC go follow him at Bryn Kerr FCC on Twitter he's a great follow the CCP can't stand them digital divide communities to learn information about corona virus and more this is a big deal if you don't have access to the internet and sometimes high speed internet if you have access to information you might not be up on what it is that we all need to know about coronavirus so are we doing something about that too to a bridge that divide you look up and it's so much about our daily lives where we used to go to work send our kids to school or socialize with each other all of that activity moved almost overnight to the virtual world so you never have Americans relied more on the internet we are engaged in a lot of efforts to close that digital divide in fact there's a study out just today that show that internet speeds in the US on the wireless side actually increased slightly you know we had a massive increase in traffic on our networks other countries weren't so lucky China saw a decrease in mobile speed of about forty percent of all so we're making progress on closing digital bytes speeds are increasing in the U. S. we're not raising mission accomplished flag yet at this point by any means but we're investing a lot of resources and won't stop until every community has a fair shot of connectivity I want to do fifteen twenty seconds of this if I can because you actually suggested the study on Twitter the other day and I posted that Chinese thing.
