The head of the St. Louis fed Jim bullard was saying he's become more supportive of a 75 basis point move at the same time the head of the Kansas City fed Esther George said the fed has a clear cut case for continuing to remove monetary support. Currently, markets are expecting another 75 basis point rate hike this month after similar increases in both June and July, the chief economist at KPMG is Diane swank. With the fed wants to see is much more of a slowdown than we're already seeing and it looks like growth in the third quarter is probably less than 1%. So this is the fed trying to engineer below potential growth with a rise in the unemployment rate. The question is, how high for how long? The next question is whether the fed will over tighten and then be forced to cut interest rates early next year. Here's former New York fed president Bill Dudley. My view is that that's a very premature thing to worry about at this point. I mean, look at the federal funds rate in the United States, it's still at 2.33%. Well below what you would consider to be neutral in this current inflation environment. So let's get to a tight monetary policy setting first before we worry about whether the fed is too tight for too long as maybe other central banks will ultimately turn out to be. This is the Bloomberg business of sports show where we explore the big money issues in the world of sports. I'm scarlet fu. Michael Barr's off for the week. Coming up on the show today, we've got a fantastic guest. He is a former MLB pitcher, actually he was a top ten draft pick. And he's now a founding partner at jail strategic wealth. His name is Jacob Turner, and he will provide us insights on his firm's financial mission and basically how his experiences as a pro baseball player really shaped his understanding of creating and sustaining wealth and advising athletes and entrepreneurs on how to do the same. That is straight ahead on the Bloomberg business of sports show, but first, we begin with a Bloomberg exclusive, focused on one of the greatest tennis stars of our generation. Really, of all time. And how she has transcended how bran see women athletes, as well as their role in sports marketing. We can only be talking about one person. Serena Williams, so joining us now to discuss this is Bloomberg news reporter Ella Cerrone Ella co wrote an article titled Serena Williams forever changed how brands see female athletes and you can find that on the Bloomberg terminal or at Bloomberg dot com. Ella, welcome to the show. Thank you so much for having me. So Serena Williams an incredible career 27 year career in tennis, she is the most well-known female tennis player, but I would argue she is the most well-known female athlete. And in your reporting and talking to different brands and people in the business world, it's clear they see her that way too. Absolutely. I mean, Serena's her nickname so far has been the goat, the greatest of all time. And a lot of people also argue that that's not just for female athletes. That's athletes entirely. Just given the way she's changed the game. And the businesses surrounding it on multiple intersections. You know, as a woman, as a black woman, as a mother, and as a business person and the ways in which she partners with brands and works with them and also inspires other athletes to demand what they're worth. Yeah, you write about how she's made a permanent impact on marketing budgets everywhere, particularly when it comes to how much money these brands put aside to work with female athletes. And you kind of go through her history with some of the brands. And we know that she has a big deal a long-standing partnership with Nike. But what I thought was interesting Ella was that she didn't start off with Nike. She started off with puma. It was kind of like Nike wanted to see her prove her worth first before she got signed on with them. When puma and Serena partnered in the late 90s, that was still a headline making partnership. That was no small feat on its own, and it was a 5 year partnership for about $13 million. And then Nike came along in 2003 and really invested with her and that investment has grown since then to include a number of other initiatives, like a design initiative that they have in house for designers from marginalized backgrounds. Nike has named their biggest building on the Beaverton campus after her in homage. And so the impact that she's had with Nike has been really indelible, she's been making partnerships that are really strategic and smart for her as she deserves. So Ella, you spoke with the vice president of global women's sports marketing at Nike about Serena Williams. Give us a sense of how groundbreaking Serena was for Nike and how there are modeling a lot of what they now do for female athletes and athletes as a whole because of Serena. Nike doesn't have a spotless track record. They came under fire a few years ago with regard to pay discrepancies for pregnant athletes and people are still really watching them and making sure that they walk the walk and really support athletes and Nike told us that they are really listening with and working with athletes and if they work with their athletes like Serena like other members of what they call of a certain collective, it's a thing taken initiative, it includes 13 total Nike sponsored female athletes, but if they do right by those athletes, the hope is that all of their products and all of their offerings for the everyday athlete is going to benefit as well. Yeah, talk a little bit about how Nike did come under fire in the past for its pay policies for pregnant athletes because that's something that we know Serena Williams has talked about how she wants to continue to expand her family and that's the main reason why
