"They straightened things out, you know, he had a 6 week stretch where he was on the opposite end of that spectrum like arguably the worst school in the league statistically for 6 weeks. And when I watched the video, I didn't see a ton of difference, and that's what makes you a little nervous. He's a guy that plays off feeling instinct and it's not like his technical game is bad, but he's just he's not a technician. It's not what he realized on. It's not, you know, it's not how he plays. And so if you were to spot a glaring error, you'd be like, that's an easy fix. But when everything looks the same between good and bad results, it's like, okay, how do you fix this? So I do think the nature of his style means it was going to take and it will take time to adjust. To a new team to an environment to being able to read off the tendencies of the players in front of you doesn't help when you're giving up the number of rush chances they are. But I would have expected that rush is where he has success. Like I would have thought that Jack would be better off the rush. Maybe even then Stuart skinner, who's a little more of a technician. Would you say so would you say stopping or dealing or being kind of programmed to deal better against that type of environment where you're just having a face Ross giants after rush ends? Is that one where you'd want to be more kind of just in terms of like feeling instinct as opposed to technique? It's tough. Well, if I assumed maybe he would have I thought maybe they might start him tonight because my assumption would be he'd have better numbers against the rush. And then I looked it up. And skinners like plus 5% on rush chances and camels minus ten, which is again. So guys at skate guys that play with a little flow, like you think that when they're on their game, that little bit flow gives them momentum, the ability to read the ability to do things a little differently and not just sort of be spot to spot technicians, which is, I don't think it's fair to skinner to say that's all he is, but to me that's more the foundation of his game than it is Jack Campbell. And so yeah, I would actually. And maybe that's just early in the season. Maybe, you know, it's not just about does the defenseman take away the pass on a two on one. It's where does he pressure? Can I trust him to pressure? Where does this guy pressure, where does that guy pressure? Some of its system, some it's personal tendencies, you know, how does he try and block that passing lane? Is he sliding early? Like there's a lot of little things that just take time to learn. I don't think that Jack Campbell is as bad as he's been so far. Impossible. Well, yeah. But I mean, even being critical of the trade, like he's better than this. And with time he will show it. I believe that. But I've got to admit, I was surprised when I looked up the numbers 'cause I thought man, maybe they throw Jack in here tonight, and then I looked up the numbers, and I'm like, no, maybe they don't because skinner's been really good against the Russian he hasn't. I cited those rush numbers as like just put that to the side right before I went on to absolutely skewer.

"That means you're looking at 30 plus starts from your backup. What are you getting out of that? I mean, that's a question mark in Minnesota. Yeah. No question. All right. But let me just stop on that. Really forgot to St. Louis Nashville Winnipeg. You know, they're just going to, you know, I guess Dallas is in there too. They're going to kind of slug it out for that next little spot in the division because St. Louis is always going to be pretty good team. They're big, they can score their defense, maybe not what it used to be. Nashville is a good team. They're a good team. I mean, I don't know, but can you see sorrows have that year again? Everybody's got question marks there. Every team is rather, every team's got a question, Mark. What's Winnipeg? I don't know. I have no idea what Winnipeg. So that'll be the top two teams for me or Colorado and Minnesota. The central is as complicated as any division, right? I mean, we just chewed on the metropolitan for similar reasons. But, you know, if you exclude Colorado, I mean, it is a crapshoot from top to bottom there. We did the season preview show on TSN on Monday night. And most of the fellow analysts felt pretty strongly on the changes made with the Calgary flames. And it seems to be a one, two kind of flop there. Is it going to be Edmonton? Is it going to be Calgary that ultimately wins the Pacific division? And I've got time for both arguments. I need to see it from Calgary. I mean, it's obvious. It starts with Jacob markstrom. Their defense looks good, but changes up front are we absolutely certain it's going to pay off. Don't know that. Edmonton went pretty deep last year. Jack Campbell, the answer and goal in Edmonton. But you really shouldn't look beyond the likes of Los Angeles, right? Or Vegas has been in turmoil for a couple of seasons. So I stayed away from the Vegas golden knights, but again, for all the right positive competitive reasons, this division is as compelling as just about any other division. Yeah, I'll start with LA because I think they're going to be a pain. And I think they're entering into a phase where they're going to be really good for a number of years. That blue line of theirs. They got so many defensemen. They're going to have to figure out what to do with them all. And they've got about 5 right handed D so when the time comes, rob Blake is going to have some assets that are going to be coveted around the NHL. So right when you think their defense is deep, Brandt Clark, a 19 year old, their first rounder a couple of years ago makes a team. Like just jams another body in there. Another right handed shot. They get Sean walker back from ACL surgery. They get douty back from his wrist surgery. They already have an excellent defense of club. They add Kevin fiala to the forward group that can always use a pop of flash and quick offense.

"First third of the season and a lot of people are like, oh, it's team environment. Relative to team environment. He outperformed it at such a significant level through the first third that I would have had him as a candidate. And that's the other risk. Both the years he ended up being around 30th, 31st, 32nd in adjusted save percentage. Each of the past two seasons. But one year it was steady the whole way. And then last year it was these two wild extremes. And when I broke down film, like that 6 week 7 week stretch we talked about, statistically, he was the worst goalie in the NHL. And I went to look at the film and I'm like, I didn't see anything glaring. Right. He wasn't his game didn't change, which should be a good thing. But he was just getting beat on open looks. Yeah and I'm like, well that's something that smells like a fix. Confidence, what are you fixing here if it's just confident? It's all between the ears. And again, just the nature of those past two seasons so I see risk there. I hope that he has a ton of success and wins the Stanley Cup and Edmonton, because you have to cheer for a Jack Campbell. But this is the PDL cast. I got to look at the numbers. And that's what the numbers tell me. Well, I think the vibes in Edmonton of going from if you're a defenseman there going from Mike Smith yelling at you after every mistake, even when it's his fault to the nicest guy in the league. The vibes are going to be immaculate and Edmonton in that regard. So I think that'll certainly help. Well, I tell you that those defensemen now have to come back and get the puck themselves. Don't get me started on goalies playing the puck. This could be a whole other show. I'm probably going to lose that one too, so I won't. Yeah, I know it'll be interesting. It'll be interesting. I'm very curious to see I think it's always satisfying because it brings us full circle. We started the show talking about environment and fit and how two goalies who might otherwise be comparable from a true talent level in a vacuum might fare wildly differently in two different circumstances. And so seeing goalie switch

"Media like question his decision to pull himself despite the fact he couldn't lift his glove arm or close his glove. But it gives him a month escape. Gives him a month to work with the goalie coach who, by the way, they fired three quarters of the way into that month to skate, keeping all the changes that he's been trying to make. Make them more innate, make them more instinctual. What happened when he came back up to that month? He was really good. And people were like, oh, he started to figure it out. The problem was then he got hurt. I remember him coming through Vancouver. I'm like, oh, you could see the changes. You can see it with a trained eye. What's starting to happen here? Sound like he forgot how to play goal, all the intangibles that go into it. He just played a style that no longer worked. And he went out and tried to change that style. You finally see signs it's coming along. And then you start the next season by dumping them to the miners. You know, and again, tiny sample size and some of this is injuries, and there's a very real injury risk, and that to me is the bigger risk of Toronto's moves than the actual game. I think his game is coming along. His adjusted save percentage last year was better than Jack Campbell's. By a significant margin. It was better than camp talbots, by a significant margin. So amidst all this discussion about how Ottawa's improved and I just think that was a relationship that got broken and maybe he deserves some blame for this. Maybe you should have played through a few more things. I don't know where the blame falls, but it was not going to work there. I don't think they handled it very well, frankly. And but that doesn't mean they're still not a goalie there. And as long as they can get him healthy, I think Curtis Sanford, there are some things that need to change in his post play.

"Like that demko deal 5 years at 5 looks like if he can stay healthy, that's going to be a hell of a deal. It's just Eric and three at 5.6. Those are going to be the next ones. Is a team, those are the few guys that can be that big a difference maker. Do you pay them on a vasilevsky type scale? I think the answer is going to be no. But they're the next test cases to me. All right, we have gotten into the free agents, man. I don't think we're going to get to them. I think we're all we're an hour in and we haven't talked Matt Murray, man, like my phone's been ringing off the hook about Matt Murray for the last couple of weeks. Over the last couple of days, I should say. I don't think there's been a shortage of mammary coverage or the basket couple of days. I don't think most of it has been very educated. I'll be honest with you. Yes. You could apply that to a lot of hockey topics, but I don't know. Do you want to talk, I'll give you 5 minutes here. Memory, Jack Campbell. What's the most interesting component of all that to you? I do find an interesting again, we talk about the stats. I like Jack Campbell. There are elements of his game that improved in Toronto that I really liked. We all know about the story, the backstory. It's a good story. He's a great person, teammates play hard for him. At the end of the day, his numbers over the past two seasons grayed out in my numbers from clear site when we look at say adjusted save percentage. In the 30s. High 30s, but in the 30s. And as murky as that metal is and like you said, all goalies sort of make that range. 5 times 5 for a guy in the 30s makes me nervous. There are other things he deserves credit for. Toronto's obviously a very tough market. I thought he handled it very well. Toronto, and this is another one that doesn't come out in the stats. They're not always an easy team to play behind because they will generate a ton if they don't finish. They give up some good looks, the other way. But on the whole, they should be a good goalie environment defensively. But sometimes it's tough when you don't see a shop for 5 minutes to then face a two on one. And there's a little bit of that there. And he handled that well. But at the end of the day, the numbers don't lie. He grades out in the 30s. Are you going 5 times 5 for a guy in the 30s? That's the question I have. Well, I'm fascinated to see how it works out. Yeah. I mean, I'm on the record, I would have just done a James reimer Stewart skinner tandem for like 3.5 million next season and if that doesn't work out, then you readjust next off season. But I get it. I would have been a lot more worried about this if this was still a Dave tippett team because for all the reputations of him being a defensive coach, the numbers never.

"This team had exit save percentage last year. Either goalies performed this way. This goalie on his previous team did. A certain goal saved above expected. If we transpose what that goalie did onto this team next season, they'll be X wins better or whatever. Yeah, I mean, in simple terms, like I could take Matt Murray's adjusted save percentage from last year ignore ignore the ignoring the injuries which are obviously a question mark. Take a look at his adjusted save percentage, take a look at Jack Campbell's adjusted save percentage and wear his raw numbers. And in very over simplistic terms using that, I could say that, hey, listen, leafs fans that are losing their minds over this. Matt Murray would have run a 9 19 or a 9 20 behind that defensive environment just on the surface level. What I like to think and clear sight does this actually does this for clients. You can basically plug goalie a into team X and dig down into all these different types of 34 different types of scoring chances. And factors. And sort of see where that fit is. Beyond just that sort of overall overarching, say, the final result. Yeah, you can dig into, hey, do they give up a ton on the rush? Is this guy good on the rush or is that a weakness? And all goalies, hey, all goalies have to face rush chances, but different guys, interestingly enough, like Matt and Pittsburgh and we'll get into it. That were some of the issues where he was limited. But you can dig into that. Screens, four different types of screens. Do we give up a lot of these? Are we a team that collapses and creates own screens, defensive screens? How does this guy fair? How is he fair throughout his career when it comes to those types of environments? You can to a certain degree sort of figure out roughly how this guy fits. And I know some teams have used it. Somewhat successfully in past years, I'm not allowed to sort of give the examples. But they have, but at the end of the day, even within that, like, we talk about high danger chances and things like that. And obviously they measure that here. I think with the addition of the slot line plays and measuring sort of lateral passes and results off that, that's one of the elements that I think clear site does that others don't. And I think it's important the numbers bear out that it's important. But even with all that information, like everybody gives up high danger chances to varying degrees. Some teams give them up more predictably. Than others. Does the goal? It's one thing to give up that chance.

"If Dallas wins pretty much solidifies the fact that they're going to get the 8th seed and then lose four straight to Colorado. But as far as other online shrapnel, I think all the other players are really dodging bullets and Jack Campbell seems to be our Jack Campbell Jack eichel seems to be taken a lot of it because he's gone pointless in the last four games down the stretch here. Now, mind you, everybody. This guy's coming off neck surgery and apparently he does have a thumb injury. But I tell you what, man, these sabers fans and I'm not getting into it with him. I'm just saying they love to keep piling on and piling on at the fact that maybe eichel hasn't lived up to expectations down the stretch. But let's remind everyone this guy came back from fucking neck surgery three, four months ago. Yeah, he's been playing hurt pretty much since he got to Vegas piss. I know what they haven't really announced it, but I'm not gonna say what I heard, but yeah, he's dinged up and you know I'm sure after the season he's probably gonna have to get. He's taking all the online shrapnel RA. How do you feel about that? Well, does that not make sense to you? I'm not saying I agree with it, but he's the big, they brought him in. It was like the big deal, the one of the biggest deals of the season. One of the biggest deals I can remember. And then he has to play well, yes, he's injured, but fans don't care about that. They look at production. And they look at the guys making the most money and then they blame them. So I'm not saying I agree with it, bitch, but I understand it, don't you? When a guy doesn't perform as a high paid guy, no matter what, you're gonna catch heat. Yeah, not that he deserves a Pis but I don't think people know he's just ding dinged up as he is. And that's why, you know, he's not putting the points up. He's not the same player. So I'm sure that all the same people sending me the memos. You just might just going back to Vegas like how everyone would hate somebody. It is funny how they go from the darlings of the league like Cinderella story and then three years later, people fucking hate him. It's like Vegas. Vegas in general just eats you up and spits you out. Exactly. Yeah, they got a 15.3% chance of getting a playoff spot per money 90.3 back at Dallas, like I said, the game tonight that's huge. Vegas needs to win that in regulation. Basically, they need to win out there last three games and they need some combination of Nashville LA or Dallas to lose a certain amount of games. They're done. I've been made to look like a fool for supporting these guys and trying to jump on their bandwagon amongst all the other teams I've jumped on their bandwagon hoping they were going to get that 8 seed. I'm betting against them tonight. I'm hammering Dallas. How are you? Hammering them. Probably two, two 50. Dallas is pretty pathetic as well. They might be the only playoff team that gets in with a minus goal differential. They have the islanders have more regulation wins than the Dallas stars. They suck. You're right. Colorado's gonna truck them. That's serious priceline might be -700. What if you bet it where they could end it in 5 games or less through your odds go up? Yeah. If you take you can't do 5 games or less, I don't think. I think you could bet what game the series. Yeah, what game the series ends in. So you could bet Colorado to sweep, and those odds would be pretty good. I wonder if those are, I bet you the Vegas, I mean, the Colorado sweep odds of Dallas, if they do end up playing each other, would be not even like crazy. Plus a hundred. Yeah. That probably not too big, yeah. I mean, maybe it's plus 200. 80 plus 200, yeah. Yeah. I got a couple of bombers in there. I got Nashville 76 to one and LA 85 point. I know they're going to have a couple tough matchups, but see what happens. 32 teams. Would you bet? How many did you bet to win the cup? Last year you had Ottawa. I got three alive right now, Boston Nashville and LA and I had several other teams that didn't make the playoffs. But Anaheim, Vancouver, teams that were like 200 to one, you know, just those types of fuck a lot. I don't want to, are we going to talk Edmonton LA later? Yeah, yeah, because we're going to save that stuff for the end. All right, hey, gang. You know when you're wearing a great outfit, everything just looks right in your confidence, is soaring. You could walk into a room knowing you on your a game. If you've been struggling with hair loss, Roman can give you that same feeling. "Team, but the guy they need most is at Belfort. I think. Because just think you're a Jack Campbell injury away from an Eric schulten Michael hutchison goaltending duo. Yeah, yeah. Well, and so I should have been more crisp in answering that because, I don't know if you paid attention to the quiz on Tuesday, I'm guessing you did not. I was in Dallas. I did not. When you try, this is how you don't pay attention. You tried to kick me in the shins for not listening to the quiz. I wasn't even on the broadcast, you knucklehead. I was in Dallas. 9 did the game. I know. You didn't even pay attention. I know. Well, I just assumed that you would go to TSN dot CA or Twitter and oh no, I didn't do that. Oh no, no, no. It's Canada's favorite game show according to James Duffy, so I just wrong assumption. Anyway, the evil quizmaster asked, who is the most crucial forward in stepping up for the Toronto Maple Leafs, right? And automatically, I'm like, well, I don't even want to answer it because what does it matter? The most crucial player is Jack Campbell, right? Like forward defense aside, you know, if the goaltending is in top notch or at least average, healthy, then Toronto is going to have an issue. So I wasn't thinking that. That's a good question. That is an excellent question. That's one of the better questions we've had. I'm going to rate them. And I'm going to put that one in our top. Okay, so the last one also from Instagram, the new voice of the Toronto Maple Leafs and story gourd Brian blue drink. So Gorsuch with COVID and feeling better and I hope you feel better, Gordon..

"Just read today that Brian Elliott is probably going to start for last ten games. There you go. They're going to try and they're going to try and carve back some time for vasilevski. I mean, let's face it. He's the best in the game. But you can wear out the best in the game too. And maybe that month away for Jack Campbell will help him in Toronto. Florida has not overtaxed bobrovsky or mainly because they can't there's really not that much difference. Although burrows, his numbers are actually quite good, but nobody's tired there. Boston's been running two guys, Carolinas, since rant is back. He's been two guys. Pits the team that has run Tristan jarry hard. Right. And he's had an excellent year. I guess your sturk in it. Hey, look, if you got a number one horse, you're going to play them a lot. The backside of that is what if he gets tired, and he lets in a squeaky one that is at the wrong time of the year. Let's get over to the west and we'll talk about the LA Dallas Vegas Nashville and the battle for a playoff spot spots that continues there before we do. Quick shout out to our friend Darren mallard, right? In a tough bike accident, late last week, went through a tough scratch, I would say for a few days leading into the weekend through the weekend, but the good news is he's on the mend. It's going to take him a bit of time. Tough western Canadian boys. Will mallard? There you are. You're doing your thing and this pops into your day. And also, I hope you're getting better as quick as you can be. But yeah, he was sour. He had to miss games and you're like, you know, you got to get better first. Because by the way, I don't think Vegas is dead yet. No. I was going to ask, is it so it's not too late for it? There's 7 and three, their last ten. They got patch already back. LA's lost three in a row. They lost three zero three zero lead in Minnesota. And then all of a sudden, they're chasing the game. They can't get it back. They lose that's three in a row for them. I mean, they're not a healthy team. I think they've had an amazing year to be where they are..

"I suffered a pretty bad concussion in Toronto. In practice. And I was having really good season and I kind of derailed my season there. And the wheels just fell off for a little bit and you know we got to start from the ground up and work your way back. I started in the east coast league this time last year. I was making 600 bucks a week. I was having a good time. Just enjoying playing hockey. I just. It was just crazy to be on NHL ice again. And playing against the greatest goal score of all time. And having an answer. So that was cool. Well, I'm so you hear the emotion in his voice. And yeah, getting to shut down over is a little bit of like in 40 years when he's sitting at the bar with his boys. Like, let's throw that save on. Pull pull up again. But also three days is playing in the background. Like this. When I see these guys grinding like this, I mean, I could see a number one job for one of these guys opening up at some point. You look at like Tim Thomas is the best example. He didn't become a start until he was 31 years old, basically. Lats don't the bruins ends up when a cons might then, you know, even in recent years, James Ryan was somewhat of a journeyman he has become a status since then. Jack Campbell up in Toronto, Craig Anderson, like these guys bounced around and then later. Maybe they become status. So I love this fucking type of story, man. I mean, that's something I didn't even mention when I was rifling off about all these gold tenors and the overall quality rising is these guys most of the time they're on entry levels from the age of let's say 18 to 21 or maybe they're a college kid so a little bit older, gold tenders are just late to developing. You know, they take that extra, you know, three, four, 5 years. Sometimes they don't even come into the best goaltending until they're 30, 32 years old. So, yeah, I guess partly I guess I am surprised by it, but no, especially in the fact that they are late to developing RA. Yeah. And you know, I think it's probably the position that's easiest to lose your confidence and really fall off a cliff. As well. So I've talked about all the time. I play with Jack Campbell. He was a first round draft pick to the Dallas stars and he ended up coming over to the Ontario rain and had to build up that mental game. The mental portion for the tendies is the biggest element. So yeah, I completely agree. Well, we're talking about brand guys up journeyman that help the team and guys, you might not be familiar with, so I think it's a perfect time to bring on Nathan waka. St. Louis blue was called up last week next day gets a hat trick for the blues. Of course, he's the first Austrian in the NHL first Australian drafted basically every time I would Australian does something for the first time at Tim. We do want to let you know about this interview is brought to you by nitsa. You know, it's the holiday season Yang. You hang it out with some friends. You're putting them back a few drinks. A few becomes a few too many as the evening comes to a close. People stop to head out, you think of calling a ride. Eh, you live nearby. You can make it home. Okay, it's no big deal. What are you allowed to get pulled over anyways? And even so what's the worst that could happen? Your insurance goes up, you lose your license, you lose your job, you totally car. You kill someone. Everyone knows the risk of drink driving drug. It's fucking stupid. The results are tragic and often deadly. However, that doesn't stop everyone from getting behind the wheel while under the influence. That's why police officers are out right now,.

"I don't know how you fix it. I mean like people. Can you know all they've got to make changes while you've got the same players you're not trading those players. You're not changing those players. How can those players be better more consistently even their own team. Says the same thing. Jake muslim who. I a feel or sense of moslem that. There's there's not a lot of bullshit jake. Muhsin agreed and so he said at the beginning of the year we we've learned a to be a little more mature in our game. Yeah well right now. They need to stick their noses in. They need to get their hands dirty because they may think they are. They're not san. Jose deserved the win. The other night they played the night before and montreal. Toronto had four days off five days off. They should toronto. Should've skated those guys into the ice. And it didn't happen and not much is happening throughout that lineup. With the exception. I mean michael hutchinson and his game wasn't very good right now. They've got the injury maroshek. Sounds like he's getting healthy. Jack campbell for the most part is has been fine if not better than fine but then you look at the defense. You mentioned muhsin david camp. Who's a real good defensive forward. His numbers aren't good defensively. Their power play isn't like you're the coach your sheldon keefe. You're looking at it. Gone aside from juggling that lineup. Where do you start. Just start with the power play and say okay. It's been it's been five games but really it's been two games. Yeah i've been six games. It's been two games because matthew knives visas about but everybody's hung up on the setup whether mourner belongs in the middle or on the wing against san. Jose couldn't get in the zone right no matter what your setup is. They couldn't get in the zone so they're not sharp. They're not right. Some of it can be cured with with a little bit more as we used to. Call a little as my dad. You say a little more elbow grease right like you get you get to work here. All all throw allies patterson from the connection. That's too there are times when a player thinks they're working hard enough and they're not like pederson says. Yeah my game's not right yet and you know what think back to his first year. How many times did you see him. Just tenaciously winning pocket. Back as an always on the puck like pavel data. Klay there right now. He may think he's doing it. he's not in. Toronto is not committed enough to get themselves over the hump to let their talent takeover. They're not yet and they better get there quick. Yeah agreed likewise with the chicago. Blackhawks this imprint. They're they're not but that's the way it appears. And i didn't think that they were going to make great strides. But i did feel that they were going to be better. And maybe that was putting too much stock. And bringing in seth jones and marc andre fleury and of course jon tapes being back on the ice leadership role and being healthy again. That's just a great. Nhl story but it just it. It feels like they're coming apart at the seams with that organization. Like on and off the ice while i was there for was there tuesday. I guess now and it was their home opener. They were playing the islanders. They played a good thirty minutes really good thirty minutes and then they just fell apart in their start. One in five their minus fifteen in goals like that is a debacle. Mine is so..

"And what kind of impact he made in his style had on him. He is one of the most competitive guys that i've ever had the chance to play with. He's amazing His skill is off the charts. His desire is even more so like he. He's a great guy like in the summer. It's kind of you know it's summer hockey right. No one's touching each other or anything like that like it's it's what you could call sheni finding your legs. Yes he goes ball out and you know it takes a different mindset to kind of appreciate like okay this of pushing. I'm going to be very for catholic. I'm back seeking pride in battles him. He wants to win. You wanna win brings out the competitive juices. And everything like he wants to play hard That's kind of who he is like he. He's such a competitor and going against him makes you so much better. So all that being said charlie up one of the leaders. Obviously he's take those lessons from brad. Marchand this team has something to prove. This team still has a chip on the shoulder. That's how they play this team. This core group still wants to win another stanley cup but toronto toronto. It will be along the way just like tampa in florida. I believe it will be fighting for first place through out in this division. I believe obviously toronto and the bruins will have a season-long battle to get that last of third place spot that playoff spot in this atlantic division. Yeah i think there's a sense in toronto. And i got this from spending a bit of time. With austin mackie's the summer in arizona is that there's urgency and they don't wanna feel the way they felt the last couple of years and they're sick of it and they know they're going to go into this season but if it doesn't work out again this could be the core and everyone's on running out of chances on them and so i think that's what we're going to see from this team this pressure what i wonder though is it always comes down to goaltending defense for them right. We know they have the star power. The only team in the league that has three guys making ten million dollars plus will be landers make mike seven but if that defense they've gotten better but is it really gonna carry them. And then okay you get rid of freddie anderson. He got them roused inject campbell. Both guys tend to be really good. But we've never seen it over a sustained sample size more than a small sample size. So i do have a bit of questions back there. Yeah and maroshek injury prone of course So he'll be backing up. Jack campbell jack campbell. Still young. he's fired up for the season he too. I've been seeing quotes from him just talking about how they have a lot to prove and bouncing back from there you know blowing that three one series lead against montreal of force in the postseason. Those big money guys. You mentioned those ten million dollars. Whatever the hell they make the make a lot of money they got to step up. They gotta come through no days off those guys. But i'll tell you even if they grab one of those wildcards spots in the conference and that's how they get in they'll be a team to be reckoned with. But it all depends. I feel their weakness is goaltending. I gotta see more from jack campbell. I expect to see a good season. From jack campbell. Question is will that be enough so the atlantic division definitely to me. We'll be competitive and we'll be those four teams battling out the top three spots in the division for sure any darkhorse. Emily i mean shock. Me i i mean i don't see it. I don't see any other team of top four at least grabbing the top three spot playoff spots in that division. You know last year was the year where i was like. Oh the ottawa senators young. They're plucky. They've got all this talent. They all feel that way. They're young they're plucky. They've got all this talent. It's just really really young talent. Brady could chuck right. Now's like the only last holdout he'll sign he. He wants to sign long term. Which i'm actually kind of surprised that as a young american kid. But i think he sees that core. That's around him of all of these exciting players I just don't see it for them this year. It's always you know the question. Net matt moore is one of the more fascinating polarising bullies in the league But like tim stoops. Law and thomas debate like those are two players to get super excited. I mean there's a ton of players to get excited about not team so there's someone who could like you know play spoiler. The detroit red wings are interesting to me. Because like steve is. Urban still. hasn't put a time on on this rebuild. Now we're at a point where yeah you thought you had like four core players and he's already traded want to memphis don. Maybe bertozzi goes now the vaccine situation. Kinda change the complexion of his teacher with the team. It's dylan larkin and more at cider and that's about it leagues the. I guess you get kind of excited about. But it i think measurement of success for the detroit red wings. This year is how does more at site are developed yearly that. That's kind of what they're looking at. And you just gotta get more wins in the win column. i just wanna go back to ottawa. I don't want to hear from everyone in the grandmother. Telling me i'll lend on the senators. They finish those strong. You know why they finished strongly. Nothing applied for that is strong down the stretch. When they're not a playoff team they have nothing to play for. They will relaxed. They played spoiler. So i take that with such a grain of salt than i mean half of grain of salt so the senators are not making the postseason folks. Hopefully they will continue to improve. That's all you can hope for so format murray's having a decent preseason. It was a big adjustment for him. Going from a you know penguins defense. Not that that was you know worldwide great but it was a hell of a lot better than the senators defense so he had to make that adjustment. I root for matt murray. I think he's a good guy and things will get better in ottawa. But they're not a playoff team not yet know all right. And i think it goes without saying but the bottom zeller's have to be the buffalo sabres like they're not going to be good. There's not nhl not enough. Nhl talent on that roster. I don't think i have to add anything to that. They're going to be buried in last place and gonna be battling their battle. They're only battle in the national hockey league. This year will be the battle to avoid the overall last place with the arizona. Coyotes because i believe arizona and the buffalo sabres will be the two worst teams in the national hockey league. This very good guesses linda. I think those are educated guesses. Thank you because. I hate to end on a negative but i'm ending on a negative. Ob beckett she we're talking about one positive thing before we go then because they can't leave people with a sour taste. Okay go was the best thing you did this weekend. "And that's why it was kind of out this spring so But he's finally healthy and Milk either missing in the middle to defensive. Buying a logan jones is going to be out for. I guess probably toll around midseason who had surgery The spring so Anyway we've got get from logan lee in it. D. tackle wagner and then balkan burger and Couple of guys. i'd also mentioned on the. I'll take craig. I thought played. Pretty well Joe evans thumbs pretty good and maxwell freshman had a couple really next pass rushes us in there with the second unit kind of knocked a car colby on his bought one time Linebackers are just really good. We talk about benton He's just solid on good football player. Jack campbell star the making Thinking might be able to say the same thing about justin jacobs or when he's out there depending on what they're the running robertson interception. He was really good all day corner. i'm gonna be interested with the strength. The jacobs has in how much they want to get him on the field How much cash. They play this year. Because i think that's going to be interesting. The belt was moving. back to safety. Went jacobson's on the field so it take very whether out no situation so anyway. That's just some kind of the else thoughts on the practice I wanted to echo what you said. He's been hurt like every year. Yes so i'm intrigued. See if he can stay healthy He's not cocky kidby Imagination tom you know that and he he was upbeat he he feels like he's ready to compete. He feels like he can make a difference. He feels like he belongs out there. So i'm excited to see that. I don't wanna be wrong on one of these. So hopefully for our sake he He and he's only a junior is a third year player buddies No he's wrenched yourself more. Sorry but he's third thirty year player but he's a registered sophomore. So we'll see how ends up doing. But i get the feeling down that here's a lot of fun parts and pieces to this team. Thank you can be excited. I like when you go through that list. I mean you look at the running backs. They're all really good. And people know about key. Johnson arlen earned. Bruce has been fantastic. And you look linebackers. You start talking about certain certain guys that can be stars and upfront of the. There's a lot of good pieces of this team. Why do i always keep going back to spencer. Patriots can be better than what he was last year. It's in some..

"Oh that can. I will lose my mind. I think jack campbell's whole career was screwed by saying the. Hr that long. I think if he ends up when he was actually ready who knows. Maybe he gained. That confidence is a great goalie like and we don't. We don't trade for ben bishop. We don't we don't need to get on. Tm -i whenever lennon starts up struggling jack campbell and we go win cups that way and we have our offense system and all that jack campbell is just the the wall on the back but jim nill sucks at deciding when prospects should start playing in the nhl. He's terrible at it. So please please. Just let off your play in the nhl. He doesn't have to be the starter just to start off with. He can be he can be the backup or the or the or the one b or whatever. Please don't put andre i will. I will cry. I will literally cry on camera. Lots of thoughts From me here maybe good maybe bad. How good so. Jim nill is very different than some other Gm's some gm's you know they get their star people young guy in the hand the reins to them and they say go win. Be free jim. Nill is not like that. But how many. How many times has that happened. For an nhl franchise will. The penguins won the cup that way. Okay but the blues okay but again and again very few. I don't include joining bennington and this group of players but the group of players that i think of of young players that can drop in and just immediately start making impact connor mcdavid. Sidney crosby alexander michigan. That's that's probably where my list ops right there. I don't include nathan mackinnon. I don't include a dry cycle in that conversation In it's just because of how the nhl they love youth it they value youth in the nhl. Nowadays it's been going younger and younger and younger and instead of the prime being you know twenty seven. I think that age has dropped to lake. Twenty four twenty five or a player is in his prime. The thing i don't want to see happen to and is what happened. Carter heart and i've mentioned this before. Carter heart was given the reins to the to the crease without any competition so there is nobody that was going to take his spot. Not even brian elliott. When he was there and he had a good a really good season. Neil good couple of seasons this past season though holy crap. I'd not good whatsoever at all in this story discussion. I mean the flyers missed the playoffs partially on the fact that they could not keep goals out of their own. It i mean there were even gains. That carter hurt wasn't even on the roster. He wasn't even the backup so he couldn't have even played that night even if they wanted him to so in a way. I understand what jim nill is doing. Am i one hundred percent behind what he's doing. No because auden ger has proven himself..

"This German Come on. You know how how much more do you want? If you can't win a serious this year? With all the stars you have with Matthews and Marner and Neil and ER and I know to various getting hurt was a huge loss in Game one. Every you know, every year they seem to have identified. Okay, Well, we We weren't our defense was a good enough so they've gradually made moves over the years to make their defense. Better care. Goaltending wasn't good number. You can't blame Frederik Andersen for this Jello. Campbell didn't play that badly. We need you no more guys who know how to win in the playoffs. Hey, let's go get Spencer, who actually played well in this seriously, Joe Thornton, or no matter what that's part of the hilarious nous of this, no matter what. Stay address each off season, they still can't get past the same point there been years works. The goaltending there been years. When. What this time, I guess it's Mitch Marner, whose is public enemy number one. You know, he hasn't scored a playoff goal in this last 18 playoff games. It's probably tough. That is tough and he's a great player. He had a fantastic regular season. He's immensely Talented. Matthew's only got one goal in seven games, and he's a phenomenal player. That's what that see. That's the thing right to your point about Toronto. Look, I don't want to win. A lot of it's because of our side of the feeling of the rivalry with the sabers in the main police, but there are teams Troubles and don't wear if they're living at the top of my list of in the top three or four of teams that I never want to see. Win another game or ever win a cup again. Boston Philadelphia The Islanders They're all up there, even Pittsburgh. But there's just something about watching the Leafs lose Jeremy. I really love their team. I really do. I think they're fun to watch. I think they've built a really entertaining club. They have some very, very talented players on that roster, and I think they really do a good job. And then something happens and they can't get over the hump in the playoffs, but to lose to Montreal in a seven game, Syriza's when you had just a golden ticket The third round of the puss. You beat the Canadians and guess what, you play the 14th ranked overall team in the next round of the place. They didn't even get to that. I mean, it's crazy. You know now what they do will be really fascinating to see if they if they sit back and go. We're really good. Let's not overreact to this or if they think they've got to get rid of one of the stars or do something to really Shock the roster, so to speak. Fred Tweets in about that Syriza. That serious reinforces my point on how important goaltending is not for the sabers. For some reason, they for some reason, seemed to ignore the problem that has been consistent since Ryan Miller left. And I mean goaltending in a syriza. Sure you don't want carry prices contract? No, no, no, no, no Cary Price the contract by the way, he's played 71 career postseason games. Yeah or 74 they mentioned last night. It's here. It is his 74th start. That's a lot of playoff games for Cary Price He's played Ah, lot of years, but you do not want Cary Price. You do want him in that series, but unfortunately, having him that series on his current contract means that you have him at a $10.5 million, cap it through 2026. There and he's 33. There's a reason Montreal finished. Would you say 16 18 18th. There's a reason they were 24th last year. Part of it is they paid too much money to a goalie. They built from the net. Montreal's not necessarily good. What you getting or seven games. Syriza and your goalie can steal a series like he did. I mean, they've got some good players, too, and they made some nice moves in free agency. But to fully um but Yeah, she Anderson was Henderson right? The points Never. The goaltending is not important. I mean the sabers. Is that a hot take if you were to see you rather have built a team out with Lena Saul, Market, three million and Cary Price of 10. I don't think it is in a serious you'd say Yes, I'd rather have Cary Price. But Carey Price has When he struggled not only in Over long stretches. He had a save percentage a couple years ago. There was, you know. It's one of the worst contracts in the sport. Harry Price right, You just wouldn't want it, but in a seven game Syriza, right, But today, it feels pretty good. See, that's the thing like Jack Campbell. I know he's you know, he got. I'm sure he feels awful. In fact, I think he said he did after the game. The first goal last night was proof. But you can't. I mean, you don't Hey, didn't play badly in this syriza. I mean, they didn't score. The leaves are one of the best offensive teams in the league, and they didn't score again. The to various injury is one of the problems they had their power play was awful. The line, The Matthews Marner Hyman line. Had two goals in the entire Syriza's. I mean, come on. I mean, they didn't lose every game 6 to 5. They were losing games because they were scoring one goal or two goals because their goaltending was good enough to win, But their offense they didn't score. They couldn't be Cary Price. They couldn't score goals. They couldn't score with the man advantage, and they lose three straight games in the back into the serious Why Scored six goals the last three games. Their offense was almost non existent with a 31 series lead Philip that all the line matched up against Matthews and that line that you know Matthew scores better than anybody in the league and one goal in a seven game series. Probably not enough for him, Um, Price. Meanwhile, just getting the numbers here. His save percentage this year this season was 901. It's not that it's not great at all. In the Syriza's Was 9 32 made some big saves last night. He did good chances, right? Right. And, you know, honestly, I think it's it's nice to see him doing well. I mean, he's he's fun to watch. He's likable and all that. That contract is something that kind of, you know for people that are Montreal fans. Maybe you're maybe for Montreal fans kind of defines the idea of having the big goalie. No, thanks. No way. Yeah, especially at his age. Yeah, That's why so Anyway to the point of, I assume you know, the divisions will be back to normal next season, which means the leaves in the sabers will be back in the same division. And that's why I think What they do in the off season is going to be fascinating again if I were them. I mean, I wouldn't get rid of any of the big The Big Four. So to speak, the various Matthews Martyr and Neil and I guess would be in the Big Four. It's a good hockey team, but then stuff happens. First off, it's tough to win in the playoffs. You can run into Ah, Hot goalie In a short series, you can have a bad matchup. You know, whatever key injury can knock a big player out of your lineup there a lot of things that can happen and I just think if if I were Toronto I would hope they don't overreact and feel like they've got to do some major moves to get one of the stars out of here or something like that. And because I think I'm going to assume we're going to hear that, for whatever reason they're not built for the playoffs. But you know what? They've tried Tried everything right? Okay. A few years ago when they lost it was you've put too much on offense, your one sided hockey team Trade. Which cousin who was out last? That's right, Then they bring in big ocean They bring in TJ Brodie. They do a few things right on. Okay. There better there, Right. Well, they need more toughness. They need more grit. Right? You gotta have toughness and grit to win in the postseason. Bogosian. Wayne Simmons was picked up this year. Okay. Well, you know what If we're being honest, it's a lot of former sabers. If you're hoping to be good to a lot of former 74 batters, Yeah, well, then, and then running Jimmy Vesey. That's true, and they moved 33. But then they said, Okay, well, you know, it's the playoffs. We need guys who've experienced playoff success. They know what it takes to win in the postseason. Here's thought.

Joe Thornton Ryan Miller Wayne Simmons Jack Campbell Lena Saul Mitch Marner Jimmy Vesey Fred $10.5 million Carey Price Cary Price Harry Price Jeremy Matthew Matthews Neil TJ Brodie Spencer Henderson 14th
