"We're just kind of like really kind of go through these because there's quite a few announcements today. Nintendo's apparently real mario movie stars of bunch of cool celebrities like chris pratt and jack black so this came as a shock to me and i i i completely like didn't know that nintendo was working on this like this animated super mario brothers movie and the cast rolled out today ridiculous. So chris pratt the guy that you may know from parks and rec from guardians of the galaxy you from jurassic world from a bunch of other projects. That he's done is playing and other than mario himself. That's such a weird thing they want. Maybe some people know. And charles martinet isn't martin or martin martin name martanye is involved in some way shape or form now. This is an animated show movie friends. So it's not like live action or anything but i wonder why chris pratt is playing the mario the plumber himself. Probably because somebody who's involved with the financing of. The movie is a fan of chris. Pratt and was like. Let's get chris pratt and we'll pay for him like i don't know i don't know honestly i i don't know. I think i like chris pratt as an you know. I don't know him as a personal figure. As a as a person. I guess word of looking. They're gonna like pick up your phone. Call up chris pratt. I enjoy his movies and television. That he's done on your taylor. Joy is plain princess. Peach guys recognize her from the queen's gambit an excellent series. If you guys didn't watch it it was wonderful. And then jack black splayed what what is going on. It's so crazy. And then there's charlie day luigi which so good boy. And then keegan. Michael key is towed. Seth rogan as donkey. Kong kevin michael. Richardson is comic. Fred on ascent arniston. I'm so glad that he's been cranky. Kong i was like yes love. That's a stunt casting and then sebastian maniscalco is spike. I just love that. They went so hard on this cast. And as you mentioned charles martin. The legendary voice of mario luigi wallow g many other characters in the super mario brothers franchise is going to be involved in the project but they did not specifically say and i wonder if that's because he is going to be warri o or while luigi and have announced it yet right. Yeah that would be a big. Everyone fucking wants warrior while we g like. It's so funny. How many fucking fans those two characters have. But yeah like. Where's our martin. Boy i think he of course like twitter was. We're wise chris. Pratt wise chris pratt pooh-poohing all over it. Whatever but what i think is interesting is that it's a mario movie obviously bringing in the donkey hongs if you will donkey got cranky interesting that there's no ditty maybe to be announced maybe to be announced..

"Gee, I know that Okay, Kevin Hart. Sorry. Um And he's just Jack Black doing Jack Black. Yeah, I cannot have him in them like I was thinking Jack Black and every movie Yeah, exactly. I was thinking where he could be and try to find like a funny, jokey type character that he would fit in. But I mean, the grandmaster. We already had. What? Jeff Gold Bloom. He was a perfect fit. And then I was looking up, You know, kind of funny emcee you characters. And there was Mo Joe, where he's a big fat guy whom Jack Blackwood would completely fit that if we introduce Motel if they ever redid Animal house, and they needed John Belushi's character, and they want to re do it, Jack. Black, perfect, ever sign. He's He's good, I guess his role. I like him in school of rock. That's always say I enjoyed him in school of rock, but he's just He's just way too Jack Black. Yes, man, and just tone it down. Just a skosh. Yeah. I mean, if you were to do redo the animal house or any John candy movies where you wanted, big, fat, obnoxious guy Okay there. Yeah, he is. He's our generation's Chris Farley. Just not coked up. I don't think it's fine really know. Does a clean Pharrell I'm talking. I'm talking how like over the top and very animated Chris Farley. Well, you know how my counter shows says a lot that What's the name of the guy? Bill Murray is like overdone and people are sticking out, man. You start to get sick of Jack Black when I was sick of Bill Murray years ago, when he was my love, Ilmars popping up everybody's weddings and just always so fun. Oh, yeah. Crazy Funnel Guy forces his way into parties and there's women around the world serious. Get the hell out of here, man. Who are you more sick of, though Bill Murray or Chevy Chase Bill Murray? Because I don't see too much is a little thing. You know, just time. You see Chevy Chase a lot, but all the Christmas movies and to be honest that I'm fine with because it's it's vacation movies. It's the good movies. It's not. It's not Chevy Chase, showing up at the Starbucks trying to be being a whole going behind and be all of the barista now. Ha ha! I'm gonna give you your drink all messed up Now get the hell outta here. In Brooklyn. No look like yeah, so no Jack, Black and orange. Please know I'm not even like a huge about M C u fan, but I would agree that absolutely not. And I think the only reason why people are mad at Chris Pratt is because of his politics and stuff, and that's what everything's coming into this well, now you don't like so long because they say something that you don't agree with as far as You know, politically speaking than that person sucks. What? The actress who plays Suri, she just got I think she was talking about anti Vaxxers and I think the way she worded it was a legit question. But she posed the question. And then people sort of attack her because they were they were thinking she was siding with one person or another are on anti vaccine. And just like nowadays, everyone who is in fact an opinion, everyone who's the back, sir. I want to see them now when we're done, and all the vaccines come out for cove. It's like, okay, you're gonna be first in line. Go ahead. I'll take your right all the support. I'll drive you. I'll be in uber driver Hurry day, and that's why I don't share my opinions on Twitter anymore. I'm not trying to have people attack me. I'll just share that. That might my son mouths off to his teacher. That was I did. I do notice a lot living that people don't really, um, get what's being posted, and they just run off on a tangent. No, it's just it's we've got into a world where Twitter used to be, like, all right, I'll speak my mind to say funny stuff. And now it's all political. Just like all the other crap. Yeah, it's Karen. We only have time for one more story each of you guys so, Denise, you know that. Oh, let me choose the better rest one It's going to talk about Christmas tree shortage. But let me talk about this because speaking of overweight, overweight Jack Black knows that flat ancient art has suggested that a woman with a full figure was very much coveted. Well, a new study looks into why prehistoric men were into the chubby chaser fetish, voluptuous Venus figurines from ice age. Europe and Asia suggest that Asian people coveted obese woman during lean times. Some of the earliest of the art in the world are these mysterious figurines of overweight woman from the time of hunter gatherers and ice age Europe, where you would not expect to see obesity at all? But those who the modern day fetish community now referred to as feeders or chubby chasers once had a much different reason behind their sex appeal. A team high top hypothesized that the ample figures which number over 200 pieces that date between 14,038 Seven years old, were viewed as symbols of survival during a new epoch time. But now that's epic of extreme climate change. During this period, humans face advancing glaciers and failing temperatures that led to nutritional stress, regional extensions, extensions and reduction in population. So, basically what they did was they took And study the body sized proportions of these figures to the times when glaciers were highest or lowest, and found that obesity decrease when the climate warmed and glaciers retreated. So being fat was seen as Being able to weather that that lean time and then being able to just stay and like you know, is a sign of fertility that you could carry a baby. I want to propose because we're in lean times. Now that we bring this back, make my life a whole hell of a lot easier if we were just sent to the thicker women. Can we do this? You know, it's like the side of the show. No, also means stick around to take a good pounding too. So Oh, my God. Like chopping. They cook so well. Oh, yeah, they do. Coke. Oh, yeah. So we're all on the same page here. I couldn't stop running. There are look beauty is only skin deep. Mm hmm. I think it's more overall as I've got older, too. It's just like, you know, obviously, when you're younger, you look for the trophy. You know, date or whatever. And now it's just like I mean, It's it's how you get treated. It's how someone treats you is how you treat someone, Um, it's someone you connect with, and it's just the whole body type thing. I think that's something that Hollywood has used to play out as far as a sex symbol thing, and now they're actually they don't play it out as much. The very people who are beautiful, no matter what. It doesn't matter where some house especially as women were somehow stuck in that middle part. Where became company We talked about equality before right. It was all this is the way you should. Look. It was all from if you ever watch mad men and On Drinkwater tell you you know, this is the way everything was. And that's the way advertising executives used to look as far as models back in the day on, you know, there's body shaming is going is going away, which is fantastic. Yeah, I mean, I only got one crack of this life. Live it the way you want it Look the way you want to look, if you want to look like and I don't mean this. I just want to eat what I want exactly. I mean, sometimes over it. You do need to exercise any correctly to a degree in order to live. Is that possible? Yeah, but I mean, Look if you have a few extra pounds or whatever, or, you know, um, perfect tenders. E think I'm gonna I think I'm gonna keep an extra £10 on. Yeah, Why not? Everything. Thanks for the Richard. Thank you. £10 on. You isn't gonna be noticed when you're 4, ft Two. It's a different story..

"Would you think his getting angry? You'd kind of be on board with a bit more, but like in meet the parents, or whatever like he's. You'll sympathetic to his his the stuff he's been through. In this, he starts off sort of. Thinking that. His friends in idiot for having this dumb idea, and then immediately jumps to just him being angry all the time. There's like there's no personality or character anything to sort of. have any empathy for that so yeah. On that one who who says? I got into acting because of Ben Stella. Geno what I mean like. He was like this guy was my idol just his way. He gets really angry over time was just amazing. I didn't I didn't enjoy watching him. For this hour and a half of my life. When when Ben Stiller went on that twenty five minute rant to Oh. My Gosh when they were sitting on that fountain, and he was just like, and you just have this nice thing, and then you're horace and he just kept going and going and so annoying Oh, my gosh sued exhaust. It felt like they I think there are a couple of cuts in and I kind of feel like they thought right. We don't have a climax to the film. This is kind of got to be the emotional climax. Let's do some re-shoots. Just do more of that, and let's just do lots and lots and lots of that speakers false as you possibly can. It's meant to be funny, but and then he says he says to Jack Black, he sort of admits I was envious. The whole time I was so envious view unless the first time in the movie. That would that anyone sort of talked about envy? It'll shown any evidence of envy because. He wasn't envious. He was just angry the whole time. He. He didn't want any of Jack Black stuff. He didn't seem to want. Jack Black's life. He was just. Yeah just angry. It's actually if I could piggyback on that just real quick I know you're you're in the middle of your your ninety five, theses here but This is actually one of my like big ideas to swap. Like what am I big rehash ideas. My re make ideas is Like. Yeah, like you said watching Tim's anger. Simmer and eventually explode is uncomfortable. It's not funny. But like if you and I I actually I kind of like Ben. Stiller I know that he's easily not about like and I don't I. Don't have any interest like doing with you like. Like. Off! Great Okay. You're wrong. But I kind of like him. I actually. While the taste don't taste my pants. Seen was not a very good joke. I watched it and I was like. Yeah. These guys kind of has some chemistry and I just thought like. Just swap them. SWAP. I'd rather I'd really love to watch Jack Black like like do his energetic frustration. Thing like in be jealous. That'd be really funny, and and you mention dodgeball. And the reason he's fun in that movie is because he's a villain, and like God it'd be so funny to watch still walk out like Shit, eating grant, and this like unearned confidence like yeah, absolutely that'd be brilliant I did.

"Exploration is dangerous work. There are unknowns challenging landscapes severe weather to contend with, and that's just the tip of the iceberg at extreme locations or just factual, non metaphorical icebergs and everything gets much more difficult. Early. Expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic circles near the north and South Poles were some of the most incredible undertakings in history. Of course there were plenty of failures, but every time someone tried. It helps the people who came after. Learn a little bit more. By the early nineteen hundreds several different parties from many different places had succeeded in exploring the frigid areas and returning to tell the tale. Eight! Adele Tuck was born not too far from this brutal cold, She I opened her eyes in eighteen ninety in Alaska, not far from the city of nome, which is on the West Central Coast at one time. Alaska was known to Americans as seward's folly because Secretary of State William, seward purchased the land from Russia for seven million dollars in eighteen, sixty seven. People thought it was a terrible mistake and a waste of money, but when golden were discovered, there seward was like who's laughing now y'all seward's folly more like seward's stroke of genius that you all were super wrong about L. K. man. We get it. Anyway Alaska would still not even become an official US territory until Ada was a teenager, she was initiate one of the indigenous groups of people native to land. But growing up, she never learned the survival ways and traditions of her tribe. She was raised by missionaries people who moved to the area to set up a school in order to convert people to their religion. It's a circumstance that happened to many native Americans and as a result, many traditions were lost for generations some forever. In school eight learned to read and write English read the Bible and learned cooking and other domestic skills, the reading and writing served her well, but as you might have guessed in a story about exploration, these domestic skills would not go near as far in helping her as more traditional skills like hunting, tracking and survival might have. As a young adult! Sixteen! She married a man named Jack Black. Jiang. Yep. You heard that, right? Jack Black Jack. No. He was not a cartoon outlaw, nor was he a professional poker player. He was a dog musher hauling freight across Alaska on a sled pulled by dogs. Together! They had three kids. Sadly, only one survived a boy named Bennett. But one day, Jack Blackjack left the family high and dry. Up and left her in the middle of nowhere which in Frigid Alaska can be a pretty serious predicament. Though he was not the greatest of guys she did keep his greatest of names and earned her future fame as Ada blackjack. When Jack blackjack deserted her. She was forty miles from their home in known, and she and Ben Walked the entire way back in the bitter Alaskan cold to make matters worse than it was very sick with burke. And infection of the lungs, so ada quite a small woman carried the boy much of the way.

Why Do We Sing in the Shower?

Why Do We Sing in the Shower?

"I think we can all admit that we've pulled a Paris bueller once or twice while lathered up in the shower. Everyone sometimes grabs a handy bottle of shampoo was an Improv. Microphone and busts out a tune or two. There's just something completely satisfying about singing in the shower even celebrities do it. According to People magazine after Jack Black likes to belt out led Zeppelin and Wycliffe. Sean digs a little bruce springsteen everyone's a rockstar in the bathroom whether you have a voice like aretha Franklin or couldn't carry a melody if it had a handle but have you ever wondered about this phenomenon. Some of US wouldn't see in public if someone paid us. We'll sing in the shower without embarrassment. Believe it or not there is a scientific explanation behind our soapy. Musical stylings first. Let's look at why we're relaxed enough in the shower to bust into song. I think about it. You don't sing when you're sad unless you're singing the blues. Maybe for many people shower times the only time they're alone all day. You're in a warm small safe environment. You're comfortable enough to be in the buff stress literally washes off of you when you relax your brain releases dopamine which can give your creative juices a jump start. Warm waters rushing over you and now you're relaxed and feeling good. It turns out that singing makes you feel even better singing because of the breathing that you put into. It gets more oxygen to the blood. This gives you better circulation. Which in turn improves your body and mood. And because you have to breathe a little deeper to belt out a song you get some of the same relaxation and mind clearing benefits as meditation. Another neat thing. Is that when you're singing? You can't really think about your problems. More stress relief. But the best thing about sending in the shower the acoustics. You couldn't ask for a better sound system than a bathroom because bathroom tiles. Don't absorb sound. Your Voice bounces back and forth around the room before fading away and because the shower is a small space it boosts your voice and even adds a little base making your singing sound more powerful sound bouncing also gives your vocal styling a reverse effect which makes voice hang in the air longer and evens out variations in your singing. I think of it as a primitive auto tune. It makes you sound better than you normally would. Which is a confidence boost? We don't sing in the shower simply because we have that song stuck in our heads. You know the one it turns out. We do it for many reasons. Stress Relief happiness great acoustics or maybe just because we like to hear our own voices no matter what the reason keep it up. It's good for you and if you've never tried it pick a song and put on your own private concert.

"As we go to your calls and thoughts we've been talking about so called sex robots and I hesitate to use those terms for these things generally but apparently there is a company out there. That is so you've got sex dolls. Which have been around for a long time but now they have more expensive sex dolls that are supposedly more realistic. But they're adding in Robotics now apparently to these things you can pay around ten grand and get a sex doll that can say here can sort of move around a little bit. I guess not a whole lot but lay there and move and talk says imagine preprogramed things. Oh it can blink move its eyes and neck and it's lips as it talks so this has led this trend towards people becoming interested in these sex dolls and sex robots is disturbing to a lot of people who want to actually use legislation to try to put a stop to it. There's a busy body group out. There called campaign against sex robots dot org and they describe themselves as a coalition of humanist parents. Women's groups survivors academics and activists campaigning against commercial objectification of human beings were concerned with normalization of sex robots and they have a petition where they want the government to get involved and they want the government to conduct public consultations and develop legislation. That would somehow put a stop to the promotion of sex. Robots sounds like a bunch of really ugly women who just can't get you can't get an hold a guy and so and they want to own the guy they want. They don't want competition. Yeah Yeah I think. It's the same group of women whose against legalization of prostitution. Because there's there's a group of women out there who like you said? They're probably not that good looking. That don't like the idea that there would be women professionally offering sexual services in order to create a level of competition. That heretofore has been illegal now. Obviously some people will willing to break the law to to use a prostitute services but if it were legal probably more people would avail themselves at those services and therefore they would less be interested in these Sheridan's that Want to lock them into an undesirable agreement or relationship. Yeah I think that's absolutely the case. The wives union also You know I mean marriage isn't necessarily that good a deal for guys anymore because you know if if in when you separate you're going to get screwed. No Yeah No. She's going to get the lion's share of property you know. Even if she did nothing but sit around the house he had a maid clean the place. She didn't do anything she gets. A huge hole right because what you were earning working a hundred hours a week. I know people who were in a situation where the woman just literally did nothing and not expected to continue to be able to to do nothing. That's the excuse. Well I didn't have to do anything. He's become a guy right and and then they give you know You know they give give the money after after the break and it's like and usually too and this is I've I've even seen the W- The woman you'll tens of thousands of dollars and still be given money. Wow sure after the divorce the divorce proceedings so no wonder. They're upset about the the idea that there could be not only prostitution legalized a flood of inanimate robotic dolls and robots and eventually animate once eventually ones it will be very persuasive by the way like right. Now it's like. Why would anybody be interested in this? But obviously some people are but what happens when the robots crossed the line of passing the turing test. Making it so you can't discern the difference easily between a female robot and a real live human being. I mean you know. We see it in the movies. There's it's not unbelievable that it could become reality. I mean we've already seen it in some respects with deep fix so well but one you can interact. Yeah you can't you can't you can't be in the same room with the deep shoes. Let's go to your calls and thoughts. We have bobby. He's on the line on our discord server calling from Florida. Bobby you're on free. Talk live go ahead. Can't quite be in the room but I use my google cardboard on a good iggy Azalea or you know maybe even Taylor swift in a Kind of I kind of like you know like Jack Black Taylor swift and Jack Black a date bank very very google play friendly also like to say. I can't like I can't dance around it but I have had a robot before It wasn't even had already absolutely hold on hold on the. I know that we're on the radio here and I appreciate you being cautious with how you say things. Obviously we can't be prurient and it's important to be you know radio clean bone you say you've had a robot. You mean a doll right. Because there really aren't robots out there sex robo meaningful. I posted it in the discord. I can't say what the name of the machine is. But if they took this machine and put it in a doll. I think it would be fantastic. it's a robotic machine in on my help shout and it wasn't a humanoid. This wasn't a humanoid that you were involved with. This was a device for sexual pleasure. And that's a that's all it was grant you plug it in. Yeah well we don't need to know what else do I have to plug it in? We can imagine what it does after you plug it in and then you plug into it. I suspect would be what goes on there but So you're saying that you are in favor of the idea of a sex robot. Bobby so presuming that you know you like this technology that already exists. I imagine you would like a further technology further development refinement of this technology. How much could you see yourself spending if You know a better version of this thing or more human humanoid kind of robot version of this thing existed you know. What would you be willing to lay down for Acquiring that deluge him. I think he's I think he's Internet connection bad. Well I presume it will be quite a bit of money because think about the kind of money that will spend just winding in China. Yes we'd cheaper. I would think over a long period time. If it was adequate right you go out to a bunch of dinners with a number or whatever right. Yeah eyeing her for her birthday and I mean what's the insurance alone like health insurance ten thousand a year. I mean seriously. The toll free number here is eight fifty five four fifty free. They can't accidentally get pregnant. Eight five five four five zero three seven three three. You can bring up whatever you want. And if you WANNA program to act crazy like Johnny Johnny Depp's wife then I mean you could probably have a robot that's too has.

"We ever see another tenacious d movie. Well you know a lot of people don't know that there actually really is a second tenacious. D movie an animated masterpiece dairy is known as post apocalyptic and you can only see it onto nation. It's just dot com. I did all of the drawings myself. And it's more of a slide show really than an animation. But I'm very proud of it. And when we performed live now we'd play the whole rock opera and its entirety and that we sit back good then the Tommy. It's we We just marvel at how how incredible this enduring classic that we created really is and we think this is going to be remembered. "Is the actor Jack black in the opening number of the twenty fifteen Oscars and he was set to rise in the film industry for chasing quote Chinese box and and not a lot has changed you might have heard last week that the comedy show South Park has been banned from streaming services and social media in China this is because the air an episode earlier this month called banned in China S. as in PA Andy it was a poke at Hollywood attempts to avoid Chinese censorship by self censoring its content last week the creators of South Park put out an apology kinda it said quote we welcome the Chinese censors into our homes and into our hearts we to love money more than freedom and democracy but not everyone is willing to give the proverbial finger to the Chinese government and there are some pretty compelling reasons for that Lisa rich wine is the west coast media reporter for Reuters she's been working on the story she joins us now from Los Angeles hi Lisa hi Tom thanks for having me it's a pleasure so I mention South Park off the top but this is talk more generally what kind of type of content is likely to get banned in China well there's a broad range of content that the government there and get killed there are things with excessive violence anything that is sexually explicit but that also extends into anything having to do with the supernatural with ghosts many horror movies are not allowed to play in China so there are many themes the government objects to that doesn't want to its citizens to engage with and then certainly any political criticism of the Chinese government would would certainly be abandoned and that's what South Park was was going for there to be many more examples of things that have been banned we might know sure I mean you can go back decades and find a long list of movies that China has banned movies like Ben Hur and the ten commandments decades ago were not allowed in because of their religious themes in nineteen ninety seven there is a broad pit movie called seven years in Tibet which you you would expect that that that the government would not like in a vocally denounced it for a positive portrayal of the Dalai Lama in in twenty thirteen Brad Pitt had another movie called World War Z. about izombie invasion that also was not allowed into China if you know the government doesn't always say why they're objecting so there they may have objected to the zombies or they may have remembered Brad Pitt from a from back in the day and the movie about to that and then more recent example is Christopher robin which is of a Disney movie about Winnie the Pooh it sounds like a a family movie that nobody could object to in fact Winnie the Pooh has become a sign of resistance in China some people on the internet have likened Winnie the Pooh's appearance to president she's in pain and have used that to mock him in various means on social media so that movie was not allowed in and again the government didn't say explicitly why but has certainly become a controversial figure figure there so some of those you know are sort of inadvertent you know they made a movie and they and the content wasn't allowed in China I mean the South Park who's obviously doing things pretty provocatively but I am often that Hollywood will tailor the content of the movies a try and avoid censorship in China can you tell me about why that happens sure there there's a big audience in China that loves going to the movies and the Chinese box office right now is the second largest box office in dollar terms in the world about nine billion dollars last year in movie tickets sold but just behind the US and Canada which is the biggest market normally between ten and twelve billion dollars and their projections that China will take over as the number one the highest grossing movie market in the world as early as next year so you've got a big audience lots of money to be made and restrictions set by the Chinese government of only thirty four imported films a year so the studios are vying for those slides to to get in to get to the audience and because their limited there's an incentive to you know not do anything to urge the Chinese censors if if the centers have to decide between one movie or another for the same time period you don't want to give them any reason to reject your film and then beyond that there are also several Chinese companies that are investing money in individual sounds an income studios here in Hollywood and it's it's always have to raise money to get a movie made and get it to the screen it often takes years so any any investment from China is welcome bye bye people in Hollywood so what can you give me an example of a film that made the voluntarily made changes in production main made changes in the plot to make changes and something to try to try to appease this sure there if there was one example that my colleagues at Reuters look closely at in twenty fifteen which was movie called pixels it start Adam Sandler it was about an alien invasion where the aliens came down to earth in the form of video game characters such as pac man and the original script had a bunch of landmarks being destroyed or attacked and one of them was the great wall one of the national treasures of China in the end the great well the spirit which it was not among the lamb landmarks that was attacked there there was another scene altered where the head of the CIA speculates that China could be behind these mysterious attacks that was removed from the dialogue it was changed to say something like Russia or Iran or even Google could be behind the attacks but not not China and in that case we know that executives were making these changes because they were worried about the market there were internal emails that were made public as part of the hacking into Sony pictures several years ago where executives were discussing that centers might object to those and we need to change this to make sure we we can get it through so that so that's one example there are a few other changes made to that movie there is also Iron Man three in twenty thirteen where the filmmakers actually added several minutes of action with Chinese actors to the movies for the version that was released in China and they changed the the villain the villain was a Chinese character in the comic books but for the Chinese version of the movie it was changed to a white actors so as not to offend anybody in China so I mean so those those are kind of two different examples you know the the the one that's taken it to me is the is executives making any date because of a creative decision on film makers on on stars of these movies I have to say I haven't heard from any kind of big name actors or directors on any of this you know why do you think that is well I think they don't want to risk their careers you know there there've been people like Richard Gere who have spoken up vocally about Tibet and he has said that he he's been told that people want to do movies with him but they say oh we can't we can't do this one with you because of because of your reputation with China hello I think many people in Hollywood have that same fear all of the big actors directors producers have relationships with Hollywood studios and the studios are the ones looking at the dollars and cents and trying to maximize what they can get out of China so people don't want to risk their relationships and you know Hollywood actors are often outspoken about many political issues but you haven't heard many of them say much about China at least definitely recently just tuning in speaking with is a rich wind she's the best because media reporter with writers last week Lisa reported on a story about the relationship between Hollywood in China after the comedy show South Park was banned in China for airing an episode that was critical of censorship by the kid Chinese government I want to play a clip from that episode banned in China this aired on October second this is all wrong knowledge good kids they're loving it yeah but I can't sell my soul like this I want to get away from that farm more than anything but it's not worth living in a world where China controls my country's art from what she'll walk I don't care how many people you have I've got something in me that just won't let me be a part of all this I want to be proud of who we are guys and anybody who would betray their ideals just to make money in China isn't worth a look back anyone who would betray their ideas as to make money in China is worth like a split Lisa how can a studio or like a media company or even a film or anything make content that's tailored to a pretty big Chinese box office a pretty big slice of the pie but not compromise there were not compromise your ethics nothing like they're bound and the censorship is there a way well that's what the the studios are always trying to do and you know that's something where different people have different views about about what is crossing the line I think there are different degrees to this it in some cases studios have hired Chinese actors and put them in their films to help appeal to the Chinese market there was a Star Wars movie called rogue one where they had a Chinese actor Donnie yen in the film and I there are things like that that they don't draw a lot of objection I think people in you know enjoy seeing different kinds of actors on on camera who haven't who haven't been seen and around the world before what troubles people is when you have you know you take how Hollywood films in general and you see a positive portrayals of China's on that I didn't mention more a couple space movies gravity and the Martian where where China is helping to save astronaut stranded in space played by Matt Damon ours are Sandra bullock and when you see the movie after movie where China is portrayed as a hero there and there is concern by many many media critics and critics of China dad Hollywood is putting out and and of a portrait of China it is an act that is not giving actor picture what is really happening there I mean as reported last week and as you kind of minnows begins with being the sort of big talk now is that you know NBA National Basketball content was recently banned in China after one of its teams executives tweeted in support of the pro democracy protesters in Hong Kong last week the musician Zedd posted an Instagram that he'd been banned in China for liking a tweet posted by South Park he said that quote the government inform my promoters that if they don't cancel my schedule chosen China they would pull their cultural permits so so what do you make of the fact that artists and organizations are now being banned that no not based on the content of the films I sincerely but just simply based on the social media activity well I think it's a huge risk now for anybody who does business in China with it with the NBA case it was as a basketball executive who you know five or ten years ago we would have no idea what his views are on China or Hong Kong but now everybody has a platform and within that you know a minute they could choose something out to the world that can cause a huge fire storm and put millions of dollars at risk so it's you know it's it's the world we live in something that people will will you know continued I cherish tweeting and at at times causing because of how the new controversy is that it's going to it's going to keep happening there's no shortage of things for us to be talking about for sure Lisa thanks so much for your time thank you have a good day Lisa which one is the west coast media reporter for writers she joined us.

"True. We all have dreamt to be big time radio personalities, and here we are. That's what we do. We're big time radio personalities. The only variable here is who shows up today. Everybody showed up Jennifer horn, Victoria, Keelan Kerr show in Victoria, who oftentimes takes the fast approach is taking the you know, what that means. But okay. To go. All right. One of the big winding allowed by this is a no wine half hour. Okay. Well, I really enjoy wine. So that's. Two extra wine, Victoria. Extra line? It's Rosie season. Well, one of the trending news stories right now is would stock fifty everyone wants to know what is the fate of Woodstock fifty. It is now in the hands of judge whoever thought that this would get to that level. This is a state supreme court judge in New York is actually going to hear this the case between Woodstock fifty there. The the the promoters, and then the former financial partner, which is a Japanese company densu ages, and they're the ones who backed out. They said that they were not going to ticket sales hadn't gone on sale yet. And things were not looking right. So they completely backed out of this event which was set for the fiftieth anniversary of Woodstock this summer. August sixteenth to eighteenth. And so in the court papers, the Woodstock fifty the promoters are now saying that they want their seventeen point eight million dollars back from densu because they said that they misappropriated the funds and so- densu, of course, withdrew their support from it. Late April and ever since. Then the fate of the festival has just really been up in the air so promoter Michael Lang who was one of the promoters of the original Woodstock. That's why he's kind of cashed in on this Woodstock fifty thing. He is been very vocal that he says densu had no right to cancel or back out. And he says that they will meet they'll be moving forward with what stock fifty and we'll find out what the judge says, this is all the way up to the supreme court of New York. So we'll see. But maybe it'll happen. Maybe it won't. But that's still to be out seventeen point eight million dollars without the show even happening. It's not good. Not a good sign at all the the people from the television era of Woodstock has passed away. How many people remember Peggy Lipton who is on the mod squad and twin peaks passed away she's had cancer for a number of years. She's only seventy two. The was made by her daughters Rashida, and I think it's key data is that I. Hey, shoes married to Quincy Jones for these children. They had together married from seventy four to nineteen ninety. She got a Golden Globe for being in mod squad. View. Remember anybody here? Remember in even in reruns mod squad. Yeah, they did. But I think that was pretty terrible. So I didn't see that either. So I don't know. What was terrible the movie that they tried to make who is in it. Jumping to mind. But I'm not sure if that's true a waste of time. But shoes in Quentin, conic, actress and. Being married Quincy Jones, very visible that sort of thing. Here's the story of professional wrestler, Silver King who has passed away. During a fight in London is only fifty one real name Cesar Gonzalez Byron was performing in the roundhouse at Lucia libra when he died he was opposite. Jack black and the two thousand six comedy Nacho libra as the villain. Ramsey's. Remember him? Yes, or no, no. I never saw that know. I saw this story. But I didn't know who it was. Yeah. I didn't really I didn't know that. I did watch that movie in theaters, and I did really enjoy it. It was very ridiculous and funny. But he definitely from the costume that. I saw I guess from the when he was in the Reno right before he died, he very much fit in with that movie. Yeah. He was one of these Scillies apparently. That the kick to the heart could have initiated this heart attack that killed him. Yeah. Yep. Pretty stupid way today. If that's what you like. I just find it. Excuse me. All of this to the internet one though, he must have something else going on. Yeah. Can you? I mean, just thinking about how life is when you go to go into work at a day like any other. And then I can't imagine what it's like to be the other person who was in the ring who did the kick. I mean, these are things that you practice, you think that it's just going to be a routine thing, and it's not actually supposed to hurt someone and then for you to be partially responsible for someone else's death. It sucks. It doesn't when you think about it. Take a lot of courage to go into the ring and be beat around like that. When the men and women go into the ring for your graph. But it is a move around or on the road a lot. And yeah, it sounds like it's kind of how much money these people make a couple hundred thousand WWE wrestlers make a fair amount of money. I think, but I don't know somebody like this in the LeBron. I don't know what they would make. They story the California synagogue shooting continues to be a focus. I'm not going to use the name here. But the suspect has been charged with among other things federal federal hate crime to do what he's done. He was actually charged with a one hundred nine count violation stick hundred nine hate violations. This is what a month and a half or so ago. No one was this two weeks ago. Three weeks. Yeah. He was nineteen years old taken into custody after actually turned himself in he chose one kind of murder. Anybody know why is anything come out speculation as to why he did it? Why did he turn himself in? He was on the he he called any was like in a car chase or something. He said, I'm the shooter and they came and got him on the front seat as a coward. Yeah. Life in prison. Maybe death penalty and maybe the death penalty. Maybe he deserves. He'd be one of the people that California Gavin Newsom put a Bosch on the death penalty. So probably he'll see life in prison. Volkswagen in the news today. They're going to build electric cars. They announced that what last year. And now there's a prize because they have more orders than they expected to get preorder is for the new electric hatchback has surpassed ten thousand cars, and that was just an a day. Last week VW announcing that their new entry level electric car will cost less than thirty three thousand dollars. They're going to be delivering a lot of in Europe. And I think that'll be what next year middle next year to start delivering him. It's the it's the same size as a golf Volkswagen Golf it launches this September at the Frankfurt motor show. It's called the ID three because Volkswagen views the model as the third major of Aleutian of their history after the Gulf and the beetle. Volkswagen started to accept orders for the ID three last Thursday asking for deposit thousand euros. Most of them have sold in Europe. But there are coming from our country as well, the electric car will allow for more internal space than the don't have an engine in. There. You got small car you need more room. And you get it. Now. Sell three versions of the ID three with varying battery life, two hundred miles two hundred sixty one miles three hundred forty two miles. I'll take the throne of forty two mile one. Thanks. Full warranty on the battery covers eight years just under one hundred thousand miles or the normal depreciation of the battery to seventy percent of its maximum capacity. Anybody know what it costs to buy a replacement battery for these things in like test low or whoever has these things used anybody know? The batteries. Somebody told me like thirty three thirty four hundred bucks. Yeah. The friend of mine had a tesla tesla to but I have no idea how much the battery replacement costs the good. So what are they going to be worth these cars on the market when you sell them? I don't know if anybody's thinking about used electric car, so if you're in the market for a used car, but trying to change the way you do things you don't like the oil changes. Lube tune-ups, all that other stuff from the gas powered vehicle maintenance requirements. Maybe it's time to think about an electric vehicle. Here's some food for thought from Andy Solomon. Electric vehicles are no longer an automotive anomaly, there are enough of them out there at.

Why Do We Sing in the Shower?

"Hey, Matt I have yet to ride one of those birds scooters 'cause I hate those things that does not surprise me at all Joel. But you know, I've been getting Instagram adds to give me to become a bird charger to join that gig economy. Oh, that's right. Just like Hoover folks are getting targeted to start side hustles to make an extra buck or even to try to make a career out of it. But should you? Do it not all side hustles created equally exactly every week? We dive into practical money topics like this on our podcast. Listen subscribe to our show on apple podcasts the iheartradio app or wherever you get your podcast. Just search for how to money. Welcome to brain stuff from how stuff works. Hey, brain stuff. I'm Lauren vocal bomb. And I think we can all admit that. We've pulled a Peirce bueller once or twice while lathered up in the shower, everyone, sometimes grabs a handy bottle of shampoo was an improv microphone and busts out a tune or two there's just something completely satisfying about singing in the shower. Even celebrities do it, according to people magazine after Jack black likes to belt out Led Zeppelin and Wycliffe Sean digs a little Bruce Springsteen. Everyone's a rockstar in the bathroom, whether you have a voice like Aretha Franklin or couldn't carry a melody if it had a handle, but have you ever wondered about this non some of us wouldn't sing in public? If someone paid us will sing in the shower without embarrassment. Believe it or not there is a scientific explanation behind our soapy musical stylings first. Let's look at why we're relaxed enough in the shower to bust into song. I think about it. You don't sing when you're sad unless you're singing, the blues, maybe for many people shower time is the only time they're alone all day, you're in a warm small safe in. Environment. You're comfortable enough to be in the buff stress. Literally washes off of you when you relax, your brain releases dopamine, which can give your creative juices, a jump start warm waters rushing over you. And now, you're relaxed and feeling good. It turns out that singing makes you feel even better singing because of the breeding that you put into it gets more oxygen into the blood. This gives you better circulation which in turn improves, your body and mood, and because you have to breathe a little deeper to belt out a song. You get some of the same relaxation and mind clearing benefits as meditation. Another neat thing is that when you're singing, you can't really think about your problems more stress relief. But the best thing about sending in the shower, the acoustics you couldn't ask for a better sound system than a bathroom because bathroom tiles, don't absorb sound. Your voice bounces back and forth around the room before fading away. And because the shower is a small space. It boosts your voice and even adds a little base making your singing sound more powerful. The sound bouncing also. As your vocal styling, a reverse effect, which mixer voice hang in the air longer and evens out variations in your singing, think of it as a primitive auto tune. It makes you sound better than you normally would which is a confidence boost we don't sing in the shower simply because we have that song. Stuck in our heads. You know, the one it turns out, we do it for many reasons. Stress relief happiness, great acoustics or maybe just because we like to hear our own voices. No matter what the reason keep it up. It's good for you. And if you've never tried it put the song and put on your own private concert. Today's episode was written by Deborah Ronca and produced by Tyler clang for more on this and lots of other rock and topics are home planet has two forks dot com. You know, people say necessity is the mother of invention. But that's not always true. Sometimes the mother of invention is advertising. Yeah. Or pure accident. How about ego maniacal delusion? Absolutely. Or just a desperate longing. To be cool. I'm Robert lamb, and I'm Joe McCormick. We're the host of the science podcasts stuff to blow your mind. And now we're branching off into the exploration of invention. Invention is the story of human history told one piece of technology at a time the things we made and how they made us invention publishes every

Hart steps down as Oscars host over his past anti-gay tweets

"Post people had to find a reason to go out and decide why he shouldn't be the Oscars host. And apparently they did that. These were tweets between two thousand nine two thousand eleven included. Derogatory language, referring to gay people and made disparaging comments about sexuality some of the tweets have since been deleted. I I assume these were jokes. I Don I haven't read the actual tweets. But I would think anything from Kevin Hart in any format is going to be a joke. He's media, right? But he said here in his statement here few minutes ago, I made the choice to step down from hosting the Oscars. This year's Oscars. This is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past. I'm sorry that I heard people I'm of all being and once to continue to do. So my goal is to bring people together not terrace apart much love and appreciation to the academy. I hope we can meet again, wait a minute. Then get out of stand up comedy.
