"Get to see as it how would that be is like Shit whatever i said. I'm just telling you that's not fair. It's not fair so he he didn't like it but what they did was. They bought bathrobes. He bought the whole team bathrobes. And and by the way. When i used to go into the celtics locker room or any locker room there's a ten minute cooling off period. Most of them are showered address. Yeah i count the amount as naked. Nba players. I've seen like on one hand. I'm not even kidding now. Hockey was different. Hockey was very different. That was a whole different kind of loose ship and the nfl was different. So i just you get good at turning away and giving people respect and privacy to the best of your ability in that environment right so for me. This is why. I was always such a fan of david stern. I only had trouble a couple times. in mba locker rooms and he heard about it and he was on the phone with me the next day. And he's like. I'm going to fix this. You know like he just wouldn't stand for he just went. Look david stern came out. Meet plenty of time we had plenty of battles but when it came to fairness and protecting my right to do my job david. Stern was incredible. Incredible my biggest problems were in the colleges. Because when i started at the globe i was covering colleges and the ncaa had no specific. The was very clear. The nfl was clear. Major league baseball. This is the title nine issue. You cannot have sexual discrimination in your place of work. That's how they viewed it the ncaa. It was all over the lot. Jack bicknell i was covering bc. Jack nels i oh j. He's the greatest guy the best guy in the world. I don't want you in there. I'm like i don't want to be in there. Jack but i had. It has to be fair. I have to and so what he did was closed the locker room to everybody and only brought the players out so everybody hated me because it was my fault right but i couldn't worry about that. You know my first weekend. At the globe i covered a umass football game. There was a security guard at at the locker room. We showed our passes. He would not let me in. I'm like i have a pass. He's like you're not coming. You like physically prevented me for going in the locker. I am twenty one years old. And i am just starting work there and i'm like what the heck am.

"We say we pivot to things other than realignment. Sounds good all right. Chris davis hope dale massachusetts. Hello student bruce. I'm a c. Alarm and fan of the pod having followed dc for many years. I see many similarities between the jeff happily coaching staff. And that of tom coughlin. I reset my expectations. That twenty one twenty twenty one season as a minimum of eight wins and more importantly team remains competitive in every game. I know blow out against clemson in my opinion halfway. Staffers raised the regarding love significantly and confident that they will be the same player. Development are my expectations reasonable. Yes they are. I think jeff athletes was a great hire For eighty mark jarman. But it just if you were around him at ohio state in what he did. I mean how he really transform that defense you dug into his past what he was like. You know our friend day wants that was one of the first to really give him a chance. I mean he's the perfect tire for them and you can win. They're like you know. Obviously tom coughlin had success. Jack bicknell had a lot of success. Units started to go sideways Yanni and then it. You're forgetting the most famous Most successful albeit very brief jeff jackson ski. Yes yeah i know number country number two in the country with Brian yep yeah. I'm not forgetting him. But it's just like but there. There was nothing fluky in terms of what bc could do right in terms of It's not it's not an easy place to recruit because you don't have a huge recruiting base locally Football in that region isn't isn't as deep as other places. But i think i think the thing with them is more than solid. I think the thing is yes you know because they were. I think they were a little underwhelming to say. Kindly under Steve adagio felt like they were just kind of. I don't know how to describe it. Just they were backsliding under him. And i think that this is a huge upgrade. And i think you can sell it. I think they have a chance to not just be a top twenty five team on his half lease. So here's here's a. b. c. Can be pretty good for a couple of years. And then they'd have that one year and four where they could be a top ten kind of teamer top fifteen. I think if you have the right coach which they do right now. I think you have a chance to consistently be atop twenty five program And to be atop consistently top fifteen program because they have enough resources there to do that and as long as he's there. I think i have a chance to be top fifteen every year. You say that. I guess when i was saying earlier like oh. I don't think the other conferences have to be that impacted by the sec. But even one way they could be is as jeff halfway as one good season. Abc the other than maybe vanderbilt. Like any se. School could offer him way more than boston. College could yeah but if so if they did if jeff had like. let's think about this realistically. I don't think jeff half lee is going to go to columbia south carolina because they would offer him two million dollars a year more or to starkville mississippi oxford mississippi. I think if you're in you're like i don't think it's entirely just a money. Grab to go from. You know because if you go to one of those places that like somebody hasn't really one there consistently i'm not sure like what are you doing. You're chasing the money then. Yeah i mean 'cause you still got to go up against alabama and florida lsu. And now oklahoma lincoln riley in georgia. I mean that is a tough path. You're gonna talk about the money you're throwing in there. Which is not. I'm not dismissing it entirely. But it's still like if you're at a place that's been have not i mean if i'm if you're you're the head coach advani i get it Clark grew up there. He went to vanity. But it's like that job's only gonna get harder. That's the thing. It's kind of what i sing earlier about that. Like self-fulfilling prophecy Are maybe that's not the right phrase. I don't know but yes this deal makes it's the south. Carolina has a lot more money to throw at a coach. But if anything that coaches path get scott harder not easier and you know south carolina other than a very brief time under steve. Spurrier has never fared particularly well in the sec. We really think that's an extra money is going to change that. You're still like you said starting to play all those teams and the and now you've got more lincoln riley in there That's gonna be a tough you know that's going get tough out for you when when he's gonna have great offenses in you know they're they're a little different than some of the other top five top eight teams. That have been. Come out of the sec with a one of them and it's now just good luck slowing them down. Here's a fun. One from berry in portland bruce dude. Thanks for the continued weekly podcasts. I know this is a better off season question. This is the with stoop recently. Writing about shane. Beamer and his male value. Got me thinking. What is the definitive ranking. Nca football coaching families is it the aforementioned beamers the stoops's the bowden's the crag thorpe's the dykes or someone else. I'm not thinking just a fun. Exercise seeing this question before him to the bowden's number one. Yeah i mean. I was bobby had a legendary career and terry at a very good run at times obviously had a great under I think i'm trying to think of who else is there Were dooley's i mean. The older ones not derek necessarily but Yeah if you throw derek out there. I think they would. I mean on vince alone. They would rank very high Am thinking on the fly on this. I know there are people. We're gonna forget trying to find article that has some of this. It's too early to tell on. Obviously frank beamer's hall of fame coach and shane. You know we'll see what chain does is a head coach. It's it's too early to you know to me right now. I feel like it's it's the bowden's that reminds me bruce. We went along time on here without being able to do a podcast. I don't know that we've actually had a chance to talk about body out his legacy. Or i mean i don't see. There's there's really sobering news about came out about his health. That's what i'm saying. They came out of now. She has a terminal cancer. He's ninety years ninety one years old. I mean we always talk about on here about like kind of like your your frame of reference for college. Football kind of depends on when you came up well. We came at the height of the volleyball in florida. State dynasty the first two national championship games like covered were florida state. Virginia tech and florida state oklahoma I went down there. many times. i can. I can actually remember when he would have breakfast with the media the morning after a home. Game i. I can't emphasize enough. Like what Just transformative figure. He was in college football. We talk about union. We talk about that with howard schnellenberger and the impact. He had on one school in particular. But i think what he did..

"Radio. Wait. 40 w H. A s well have talked about UK basketball some point, Jodi because obviously there's still in this weird situation of not being able to close the deal. But it was Super Bowl Sunday and lots of folks for weighing in on just what the heck happened How Kansas City was just completely shut down there. Yeah, I mean, you got to give Terry I don't mean Tom Brady. Yeah, he was the m V P, I guess and in name and that kind of thing. But Todd Bowles was the M V p last night because he coached and had a masterful game plan against that Kansas City offense, and I know They were, You know they were they were the line wasn't that you know, wasn't what it had been early in the season or throughout the season, but still the pressure that they got on Patrick Mahomes. And you saw he still made place. But still it got it affected him enough innit effect that the other guys enough that what tied bowls created with the game plan? I fought one the Tampa Bay the game last night. But if you put two guys on Tyree kill on every play, somebody's gotta be open. I mean, it just seems like they were masterful and mixing it up and confusing Kansas City offensives, treachery. It was. It was confusing more than anything if you Yeah, if you watched it and you looked at it, they had two guys on him, but it was a different way that they did it and they will the way they bracket at the the other guys. And that's why that's why Travis Kelsey was able T o to have a couple of those drives where it seemed like, Okay, Here's where they're gonna kind of take over because they're just gonna feed Travis Kelsey. And then for whatever reason. The Chiefs would get confused on the next couple of plays and be like, Where did Travis Kelsey go? Well, he's right there. It just the way it was. It was. It was a very masterful plan by Tide bowls and executed very well by those guys on that defensive front. And I mean to tell you, by the way, Shack Barrett, an undrafted free agent. Well, when he when he came out of college, and I thought Of all the guys I know Devon White had a great game, but I'd like shock. There was the biggest difference last night, putting pressure on there that Patrick Mahomes even sideways. Even horizontal, was able to throw a laser into the end zone and hits a guy in a face mask. I can't hold on. Kelsey dropped a couple of passes. It was just fascinating on so many fronts. It totally wa so I would have never in a million years wagered that the outcome would have been what the outcome was last night. But I can tell you this. I think a lot of people if you're drunk fan, you've probably won some money because he was a pretty good price. Now you just to catch a touchdown, But I can't imagine what it would have been to catch two touchdown passes. So if you're a drunk fan, and you made any wagers you probably made Ah little bit of money last night. All right, Terry, a busy day in sports, and I do want to start off with this, Uh, our friend Dan McDonald with the text to me to remind everybody they can't do 11 days til Tik till first pitch Terry when little takes on development They can't do their normal lead off dinner. "Wait. 40 w h A s was checking with Jodi Deming. What a show last night. Who predicted this outcome? Right, Jody? No doubt about it. Serial was pretty wild and crazy little part inside the game last night that I thought was Tom Brady going at Tyron Tyron Matthew a few times several unfilled verbal altercations, a couple of them caught Right on camera immediately after the game. There are reports now that Brady sent a text message to Matthew apologizing for his antics on the field. Matthew told reporters that he quote I've never seen that side of Tom Brady before and I'm not sure anybody had and it I think, Terry. It all started there in late in the first quarter, and it almost kind of look like it tick Brady off enough that he said all right. I'm gonna Jack this thing up another notch in in my mind, and he was so dialed in last night and love him or hate him. You've got to respect him and seven rings is, uh Pretty special in. Maybe the Bears can pick him up at some point. Maybe I'm sure he's available. Maybe when he's 50 I take him. So at some point, guys. We got to talk about the goat situation again because people are saying it's Serena Williams because she's at what 22 majors Jack Nicklaus says his 18 majors. We all know about Michael Jordan. LeBron that whole thing but ultimately got to pick one person who's the goat so we can talk about that little bit later on. I think on that about those different people, because, you know, then you got Bill Russell. What's he got 11 titles. Yeah, you're right. I mean, there's a lot of what a couple a couple other things of importance this afternoon. Little head coach Chris Mac, as we found out last night did test positive for covert 19 assistant coach Dino Gaudio filling in for him this morning or this afternoon. The SEC teleconference that he spoke with Mac and the Mac is showing minor symptoms but appears to be doing well, Gaudio said. Three other young ballplayers have tested positive since They canceled the game last Wednesday in Syracuse. The game this Wednesday is also off. They hope to play Virginia Tech on Saturday at noon in Blacksburg. A note that those in quarantine that are not tested positive can get into the gym and work out on their own for about to get our long periods to get in there, so it's not like they're going without anything, but they haven't had practice since last Tuesday. I hope to return to practice on Wednesday of this week. The man's a peephole looks the same at the top, Gonzaga and Baylor number one and number two. But after that, it's a wild and crazy time in the A P three of the top six in the Big 10. Number three Michigan number four Ohio State Villanova's number five and then Illinois. Terry, Kansas dropped out of the AP poll for the first time in 12 years. That's 231 consecutive weeks and get this before today, the last AP poll without Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Kansas or U C L A in it. Was back in 1961 on December the 18th. That is a long, long time ago. Elements. Pedro Bradshaw Nemko, a son defensive player of the week, the Knights have won eight straight global women dropped to number three. South Carolina up to number one in Connecticut. Number two in the A P. Poll. The cards come in at number three after a win over Notre Dame yesterday. NC State number four Stanford number five by the way, number one and number two South Carolina and Yukon Plate tonight and Real quick to college Football NUGGETS Kentucky dipped in the transfer portal again, this 40 tray von Morgan, a 6 £615 wide receiver from Michigan State, has said that he is going to transfer to Kentucky. And Louisville starts practice in spring football in about 40 minutes or so announced just about an hour or so ago that Jack Bicknell is officially the offensive line coach now at University of Louisville, replacing Dwayne Ledford. Well, we've got a game tonight, but we don't have a doubleheader like we thought we would For those Here locally. The Louisville Cardinal game against Syracuse is off Louisville with a positive covert 19 test. Once they got to Syracuse yesterday, the game against Syracuse tonight is off, and they were not sure when they will make that when they will make that game up, if they will. That is now three games that Louisville has. That will know that it has that will not be played that have been postponed because of covert issues again, this one in the Louisville program, but we're unsure of how far that will spread or how it will affect anything down the road. Kentucky will play tonight. The five and 10 Wildcats against 11 and three Missouri Tigers. Seven o'clock in Columbia, Missouri. That is one of Ah bunch of college basketball games this evening and again as we told you yesterday, John Calipari sing as of yesterday afternoon. They had all their guys back covert related issues. He was being kind of coy and not sure if they were gonna have guys back for other issues, so we will continue to monitor that as we go. It appears that the University of Louisville football coach Scott Satterfield, Has his man is the new offensive line coach Terry Jack Bicknell junior and interesting story. He is the guy who snapped Doug Flutie the ball in the Hail Mary Game, the former Boston College Center. What is a former head coach at Louisiana Tech is also, uh, won a Super Bowl is the offensive line coach with the New York Giants and his most recently been At Ole Miss and Auburn, Pete Campbell of Yahoo Sports Reporting that he is going to be named the Louisville offensive line coach. We have confirmed that and also noted that he will not be named the Louisville offensive coordinator, so we'll have to wait and see what Scott Satterfield does with that position. "Yup You know once once again no messing around. I think we had one fluff course In the four years and you know the rest of your competing with some really bright students from around the country. And you've really gotta you gotta also you got y'all have any there's no slack there that's for sure. Let me ask you about jack. Bicknell who you played for at boston. College my impression of him and correct me. If i'm wrong about this. He was kind of like a throwback coach. He was kind of a little bit on the gruff side. Ed there's only one way to play football and his mind. You played for him later. On of course in europe With the barcelona dragons over there Am i correct. And then observations. He was d- best coach. In my opinion. I have ever seen in the sport of football. Be best and it. It bore out because it sons went into coaching. And and i believe to that also in the nfl ranks and it was very much keeping with the way the way i grew up He was very direct. Any basically said that he said Will you recruit somebody find some butts up in their background demonstrates character and i don't care if they fit all the measures in the markers but if you got something that shows character than awesome and that's how you got a five foot nine doug flutie spend myself and many others deal was listen. I'm going to be fair. And i'm going to promote the players as much as the thing you know. Your name are going to be on the back of their shirts. Don't embarrass yourself if you're tough. If you give it your best you not shy away from anything well then to my best ability. I'm gonna be promoting the players to and it was important for him to do that. You know it was important alabam personally so that they can do the best that they could do and there was no phony baloney you know. There was none of the coachspeak where he'd say no. He said something that was it. And if you were hard core and you're going to show up and you were gonna give it your best. Then you're playing and that's how he got twenty two cotton bowl team and i don't see many colleges that you know could do this or do this often. I mean maybe alabama these days and some of the sec themes but back then for c. Twenty two players from one team wanted to the nfl for your more and not one of us had started with the big name scholarship for usc. Scholarship we just figured we had to be better and tougher than any two other players and we thought it was such a great opportunity to have a chance to play football and they're going to pay for education. That football game. How crazy was it on the sideline? You know, I mean, it's crazy, but you really just don't think about trying Go on the next play. I mean, I really think that You know, something happened with Tyler. I didn't get to see anything and picked. The reality of it is she needs to be able to play the next play. And so he's got to make sure he controls that. And, um, you know, I think that It is what it is. You know, You just got to go on the next play and keep playing game and that's what we tried to do. Coach. T had a five catch day He took a leap in a hurdle attempt late in the game. And I guess tweaked the hammy on one hand. You probably love the effort. On the other hand, are you holding your breath when you're wide receiver Coast airborne like that? No, not really. Because I think that those guys are out there trying to make plays. And you know, I liked it. The effort. I mean, it was late in the game. You know if we could have ever leaked over the guy and gone and scored and then you get it. No inside or something, and you got a chance to win the game. So you know, I think he'll be fine and you know he's going to compete like that. And you know, it's kind of a lot of why we went down there and wanted to draft a kid like this. He compete plays hard practices hard does everything we ask him to do so. Um, you know, I'm kind of happy that it you know, he's trying to make a play talking about a guy that Practices. Hard plays hard works hard. It's Tyler Boyd. I mean he's been. He's been phenomenal all year long, and he has a 72 yard touchdown catch and could have built on that. And who knows what kind of day he could have had when you lose him as your primary slot guy? No. You were rolling. You know, more than one person in there. How? How big A loss was that? I mean to have Tyler Boyd eliminated from your passing attack. That's gonna be critical. It is. It's a big loss. I mean, you know, Ptolemy's understand if that's his responsibility when he's a big part of what we do, Um, I'm not coach speak, but I do have complete confidence in Alex Harris and when he goes in, so No, you just go on to the next guy. But Tyler is an important part of what we do. He's one of the best players in this league and you know it's a big loss when we when we lose a member, that's just the reality. So You know, hopefully moving forward. We learned from this. We realized how important it is that you know, you just never control what what they might do. So you've got to make sure that you're on top of, you know, doing things the right way, Coach. When we talk about Tyler, week to week, I always fall back on the word crafty or craftiness. He just seems to have a sense of Finding his way into a crevice or an opening on the field kind of kind of speak to the nuance of his game. And what makes him Tyler Boyd. You know it xylitol bit of just the way he moves and the way it's the timing of when he shows up first or when he comes speed off the ball or, you know, it's just it's just It's kind of what makes him special. So you allow him to do those kind of things and crafted a great work, You know, just has a great feel for the game. Feel for for underneath coverage is so we can sit in there if it is it man to man coverage. On Ben, You know he's got good size, and he's got good speed. I mean, I killed him sometimes about it, Steve, But, you know, he takes it in to run down The sideline and National Football League game is not easy to do. So I think when he combines all that, I think is knowledge now his work ethic. It's all just come in tow who he is and who was supposed to be as a player, and, you know, I'm proud of him for that. I think he's done a great job. You know, I love watching him play. It's just We gotta keep men now, So that's the key to the whole thing. You know a lot of people lot of fans after the game, the reaction was, you know, where was a J. Tyler goes down in a J. You know, the old A J would step up and this version of AJ didn't step up. And how close is AJ getting coach to being the old A. J. He's very close. You know, There's just a lot of things that go on, you know, just opportunities that game and, you know, situations and all those things and, you know, be honest with you. We threw this plant to him and legitimately is double. This double can be because he's still agent green. They still gets double covered. And that's why Tyler Boyd is able to do what he's doing. I mean, God, Tyler what happened at the end of last year? How hard it was. When he was the guy getting double bond really kind of slowed him down, and so I think you you take each week week to week. I know it is going to be here on Wednesday, right to practice ready, Do all the things that he's gotta do. I know he prepares himself, and hopefully some of those things happen. You know, Tyler Boyd 72 Yard Touchdown was not supposed to be that. You know the answer to a zero pressure that hopefully get the ball out. He gets 8 10 yards and everything's great. He turns the corner and goats. So then, all of a sudden, you have a couple more catches. The guy has 150 yards. Well, that's just more, You know, a little bit of luck or a little bit of, you know, just opportunity that sell the right way. So I think this week, you know, hopefully, opportunities will come and I know it, they'll be right. He's the Best pro best person ever been around. I know it's not easy for him, you know, and coming back after anything that he's come back from will never be easy, but I really believe he's progressing. I think he's getting to the point where You know, you could really help yourself Coach back to Ah, tea for a second rookies Gotta it's all about learning and adjusting edge ago in dealing with new things and things for the first time. Kind of speak to if you could. The progress you've seen in tea from maybe day one of camp to where he is right now is an NFL wide receiver. Well, you know, he's just got a real feel for. I think his ability and what he does well, and I think that that's important as any receivers to make sure you're playing to your strengths, and I think him coming off the ball the way he does. He runs better than people think again. You know, and he runs well, but I think he's been able T kind of get into that spot of understanding the way he runs, routes and just a little bursts off the ball. A little bit of change of speeds..

"This man who had seen on TV because he had recruited Doug Flutie, and he was a New England celebrities in his name was Jack Bicknell. I'll never forget it. It's because he had an office at Boston College and it overlooked the stadium and he had a Heisman Trophy. And he said, son, I was I always love being called son, and I, I would just melt it took an arm around the shoulder. I, I don't know what it is about that word he said, son, I'm gonna go ahead and offer you which meant a scholarship, I'm gonna I'm gonna offer you and he said something to the effect of your seventeen years old, or maybe I was eighteen and he said, you have an NFL body, and I remember thinking, Wow, I've really fooled another one. And a part of me was thinking, I was afraid, this was going to happen because I'm have to take the scholarship. And I know I'm going to be in over my head. And then the other side of it was this is so exciting. And somebody believes in me and ended part of you feel like oh my God. I'm going to be playing for this incredible coach whatever problems ahead in high school. This guy is the guy. He's a genius. He's going to fix whatever problem. I had I'm going to be a star. Yeah. So he takes scholarship. He says, he has no idea how he would have paid for college without a football scholarship. He works out all summer. And by the time he gets the training camp. He was big in the number two hundred sixty pounds is speed and strength. One of the best on the team but it's clear right away. I just felt so small. I mean these guys really were superman their nece their strength. It wasn't the same sport. And it was quite clear early on to the other players that I wasn't like them. I, I didn't tell. Yeah. And I can be pushed around and I could be bullied. There were guys we're going to go onto the NFL there was one player play for the Vikings. And I remember one time I was lolly gagging on a play. And he, he hit me and biz me and he said to me afterwards, and he was he was his nickname when the team was the maniac, which you really have to do something impressive to get nickname like that amongst these lunatics. He said to me said, you can't just stand there like that I could have. Killed you in, in the nicest way possible. He said that he had led up even though he hit me harder than it ever been hitting my in.
