"Our podcast one more thing available everywhere podcasts are given away because we're so stupid a study out about waking up and alarms that I found very interesting no my wife does what drives the whole family crazy all kids complain about it all the time is the arm seps many alarms on our phone like starting got I don't know forty five minutes before she actually needs to get up so everybody gets woken up forty five minutes earlier than she's going to get up all right here every five min yes or someone else okay turn off go back to sleep over and it turned out that good books with you which is walls come in return your common routine but yeah I can have a record I mean maximum of two swipes of this is the snooze alarm anymore now it seems crazy to me but anyway because at some point you really are listen out on a lot of like solid sleep right you'd be much better obviously until you wake up I just I have a psychological negotiation with myself I have to hit it once on workspace because I gotta talk to myself all right look get all up you beat earlier in the studio in the station you'll be more prepared to be more relaxed you do better radio show you're not doing yourself a favor by does singing for a few more minutes all right so once you get once more merger for loop couple more minutes things that human beings would need to have this conversation every day of their lives yes no kidding no kidding but so this study is really interesting they're talking about what sort of alarm does the best for yielding immediate alertness or did it as much alertness is possible and then you would think something like at the sound I made back got that would shock you in wakeful isn't your all right let's do it I'm ready to go but they found that it is not cool what kind of what sound do you use for an alarm hello I've use the and she's really a deep sleeper I'm a light sleeper so I just have it think think think for my own is plenty to wake me up I've got kind of a pleasant Ching your little a Chinese thing by trying to keep quite so don't wake my wife wife up if I if I can avoid it John what's your noise I'm similar I like yeah just the full thing that's part of mine I keep my quite as I've always needed to get up earlier than yeah who but to be in the same room with and so I try to pick them up in terms of waking up the most alert it's when you forget to set your alarm and you wake up about an hour ten after you were supposed to help I'm ready to go well rested and horrified well they want to know this at least partly because folks like firefighters pilots can be in danger situation shortly after they wake up I'm and so you know you want to be as alert as possible as soon as possible turns out the the like loud harsh buzzy thing doesn't work nearly as well as music well when I was like a high school or I used to wake up to music on the radio to always and I and I would like to start doing it again did the combination of melody and rhythm seems to work best so let them say has two long you got to go with that so you know you don't just like Bill Murray home but they think different people are going to react differently to different songs and and and rhythms and speeds and stuff like that it would work let's see so you yeah you just have to try it out what do you go with the love boat theme how may I right now we think the harsh B. B. B. might work to disrupt or confuse our brain activity when waking while a more melodic sound like the beach boys good vibrations of the cure's close to me may help us transition to waking state a more effective way so it has to do with as opposed to being chucked from point a to point D. you're much better off going through B. and C. first the genetics of waking up are so clearly defined by our you can add exotic or whoever I mean you just you just are we are I've got one son that's exactly like me I'm is is all alerts two seconds after I wake up as I am in the middle of the day after thank you Sam and then another son who's just like mom yeah eight seed is a long process and they don't did look give me a chance I know where I am who I am then you probably don't want to get in my way for a while now yeah I'm just completely me within seconds waking up I've gotten better at this as I've gotten older realizing that you have some control over your brain chemistry but I often wake up in just a terrible mood not so much in the morning but if I take a nap or something sometimes I I wake up just on happy just passed in what's the point of any of this has for quite a while and I want to fight the body of what is a button that I've realized no enemy is is a really good go through what are you happy about what you you actually have a good life on the line you know a lot to be grateful for I feel better now I don't have to have coffee before I can like function in the morning like about like in your show I was trying to think of my son I think I'd either go with hip hop mom's spaghetti the the Eminem one order there's any number of queen songs that I think would be awesome to wake up to I have don't stop me now just somebody who you know that's why they call me Mr Fahrenheit no I mean that's that's songs a little while it's not a good choice on trying glowing wonderful yeah you know what I I have an idea although as Freddie Mercury slander that I'm hearing not slander per se they they had better songs that one's a little dopey better live not quite as cute do you know what I mean so I guess you can you set your idea you think I would know the soft after all these years can you set your phone to play you a certain song when it goes off in the morning almost certainly but never done that the things that you know how that changes with everybody getting their music from a streaming subscriber I own it's true yeah definitely do you have time to download it here if you have which is no problem if you have the song downloaded I'm almost certain there's a way to do that hang on a second what did people do say Syria mouthy how do I play a song for my alarm in the morning set the alarm for when if you're no help she I said into an idiot I mean I I should have said stupid did you say it again please yes yes yes yes yeah I DO I wish your dad that's not nice yeah what do they do before alarm clock something of that nature the alarm clocks only been around since what the sixties why don't all you know your old timey the flip side thingy I had one as a kid may well pretty well how about doing the little black yeah button so yeah that's what a classic you know clock face with a button on top that used to be a job of somebody would go around and knock on your door all right back in room in very old timey discounts and stuff not all rural settings like my dad grew up in you went to bed really early and you walk up you know to your copper layer yeah but in isam on farms roosters wall yeah exactly but in urban areas who will keep up the good work in the forties it was somebody's job it was essentially like when you go to a hotel and you have the the wake up call thing they would just walk around I've even seen pictures of people with a long stick so we could tap on the second story windows and stuff like that that was way back in the day I mean it was like the eighteen forties not nineteen forties but we found it what about I don't know this seems like the sort of thing I know that would have come up in a book or a movie or something I'm type in somebody else on the white wake up guy came by in the morning I've never even heard this before and it everybody has a bed early enough it had some sort of charming name to the job to I forget what it was Jack alarm clock is a clock designed to alert an individual or group of individuals at a specific specified time hearing now let's see the same agent Greek philosopher Plato was said to preserve possess a large water clock with an unspecified alarm signal similar to the sound of water Oregon he used it at night possibly for signal what it's a signal the beginning of his lectures at dawn I think mostly through human history it's probably been people going to bed as soon as it got dark while the a Hellenistic kid engineer and inventor Saddam pronounceable filled his clepsydra Sir with the dialing pointer for indicating the time in an elaborate alarm systems which could be made to drop pebbles on a gong or blow trumpets by forcing bell jars down into water in taking the compressed air through of beating reed at preset times I've known people to blow trumpets a second they will that was like three hundred years before the birth of the birth of Hayes Zeus that's interesting and all but that's not what most people were doing in urban areas and candle Clark simplistic devices from ancient China were embedded with nails that were released as the wax melted away leaving the nails to clatter loudly into a metal tray below at a designated time now common usage all alarm clocks let's see it that's not clear to me but that is the early twentieth century the sort of you pull up the button and it goes off at that time that was you know early twentieth century okay first American alarm clock this was another well no this is a legit alarm clock it could only go off at four AM but was invented by Levi Hutchins in New Hampshire what can go off at one time well the guy that's what we want to get up in the invented it I don't want him not me so this actually was going on much more recent and I thought a knocker up sometimes known as a knocker upper was a profession in Britain and Ireland it started and I take that work that are going to pay for the kids well we'll see wow did you guys hear that well into the industrial revolution with alarm clocks neither cheap nor reliable and as late as nineteen fifty two expensive and unreliable lets me C. alert of French inventor Antoine ready air it was the first to patent an adjustable mechanical alarm clock in eighteen forty seven that's my dad so I don't think most people are doing that and I do have one experience in my life when I was working nights mostly I would go to bed I would sleep in roughly eight hours I would just wake up on my own feeling great I'll bet that's what most people have done throughout history is it just went to bed so early they woke up in the morning in plenty of time to be up yeah from what they were going to do yeah and I'm sure that was much better for us then did then interrupting our sleep are they just wait for their **** to wake him up I'm sorry rooster is the preferred term a knocker upper would also use a snuff for outer his hit tool rows indiscriminate a snuff for outer he put a pillow over the face they really struggle for as a candidate they were used to extinguish the street lamps back in the day but it was a long pole sitter would tap on the one vehicle blockers no that was a New York basketball team you're listening to them the Armstrong and Getty show the last few months have taught us what's important life it's also taught us what we need to eliminate or change it's the.

"Welcome back and you are we nice and warm always from the Whiskey Eski indeed all right now. We get to the real origins of the Jack Elope so the first Jack Lope was founded by a man named Douglas Herrick Eric Resonant of Douglas Wyoming no relationship in the first names in nineteen thirty two thirds mix sources on the exact year. But we're looking rough like in the nineteen eighteen thirty S. Douglas was a taxidermist and shared the business with his brother. Ralf both were trained via mail order which I'm assuming is the equivalent of being trained via a youtube nowadays okay like I didn't do any research on that by the way it was worded. Made me just kind of skeptical of how much training they actually had. And what did you get like a coupon on the box of ammo rights. Like sin to coupons in. And you'll get a free taxidermy kit from the Sears magazine Oh that'd be sears roebuck. At that point I think x Ray Goggles and taxidermy classes Victor God so after the hunting trip. Douglas and Ralph Return with Jackrabbits and place them on a table in their taxidermy shop. Next to a pair of horns. This gave the payer the idea to combine the two and thus the Jackal was born. So so nobody else had done this before from what I can tell. The Jack Lopes initially became very popular for bar bars. Just all over the Midwest. That's just where they it became popular but weights but wait while the herrick brothers were playing Frankenstein in their taxidermy shop. Richard Shope an American neurologist colleges took notice of the medieval illustrations of Horn rabbits and decided to start investigating. Yeah he gathered horns from yet rabbits. Yes yes they're real what. He gathered horns from rabbits from hunters and then he started running experiments. He found the horns were not formed from bone but instead were formed from Carrollton security makes like hair feathers nails etc.. And it's basically if you WANNA get Super Scienc- about it a fibrous structural protein so jack loops Sir Real. I'm so happy and don't get happy. the gated Chopin. I'm assuming it's been out shop because it's S. H. O. P. E. SO Chopin Hunch. He took these horns ground. them to a fine powder made a solution and then filtered third unfiltered and filtered the powder until he was left with the virus some sources say he took the filter solutions and applied it to non infected rabbits who then began to grow horns a two. Oh so it's just a virus in hurt them in nineteen thirty three. The shope Papilloma virus was discovered. I was later discovered to be related to the human in Papilloma virus also known as HP. Oh good plug get Thaksin's guys all right back to the show. A lot of people should have horns right now in today's about to say it doesn't grow warn it's not in humans while you would know who to avoid the clerk that takes horny vendor vodka new level now having said that most people who have had more than one partner have hp so while HPV can corrupt cells in the cervix and and cause warts and humans. The SHOPE PAPILLOMA virus can cause heart care tonight horns on the rabbit's does it hurt them so these illustrations found in the medieval times were real. They could have been real rabbits. They were just diseased. Rabid said the Shapiro said the SHOPE Papilloma virus also revert to as Jack Alot business. I'm Jennifer Lopez them. Does it hurt them. You have not answered my question. In some cases this is these horns can grow around the mouth of the Rabbit preventing it for being able to eat. Oh poor babies. I don't like that not at all. It's believed did the illustrations discovered a medieval books. Most likely infected rabbits and I should have done my notes better and ended in a happier place. Oh that's okay that's okay because basically you just said Jack loops are real is the horns could grow anywhere on their buddies it. They tend to grow on their heads and then the grew down and around their mouths. No some some of 'em grow out of their mouths. I mean some of them will grow like Nabis on top of their heads. Some of them. I've the picture I saw was like tusks around the mouth that obviously is preventing the rabbit from like eating and drinking right. Will that sad but Jack Lopes being real. I'm kind of excited about a little bit. Pretty Big Fan little sad about the ones that don't prevent them from eating. Those are fine. It's just like a horn growing league. The ones who are aesthetically Jackal. That's fine yeah. I don't want the animal to suffer but I also think it's really cool for them to have horns. There's a legitimate. So it's a little unclear which came first whether the whether Douglas and Ralph made his first or if this is kind of happen concurrently or are you saying the discovery of it or will the discovery of it and the initial taxidermy. taxidermy happened around the same time. Okay but the same time where did show get the horns from rabbits from hunters exactly so like it was a little unclear to me like how common this is so you think that's how h peavy started. They're they're related but they're two different strains you can't okay. I don't think heating the rabbits in like rabbits and they killed them and then gave him the horns than eight the rabbits and then they got it and they wouldn't hesitate around town boom. HP Don't think that's were at no that's not how that works. It's a statics statics that that is no no one's getting a little staticky down there. We've gone well anyway. That's Jack Lopes guys. I how one you do and I don't like taxidermy. But it's Kinda cute very cute. I've always thought that they were cute. I am freaked out by Texter me a whole lot which coming I'm from southern family doesn't bode well for me. Not In your best interest though is acuity so we need to go on a jackal hunt not to like actually hunt them but just to find them and then go see baby Nessie. Yes we'll baby nessie is and our home state. No I've never been more proud to be Indonesia. Now I WANNA know like everybody has a State mythical creature would that still be considered mythical creatures since they've proven that they exist. I don't know I I haven't dove into it like before I did the research. I didn't realize there was an actual rabbits with horns. Technically Jack loop a Jack Lopez of rabbit. It was horns right. We'll where did they get the illustrations from from the rapids with the horns. I think they still enhanced. So but like if you're out in the wilderness and you see the Squirrel and there's little knobby things on its head are. Are you gonNA assume that their horns maybe I would assume it. Also I could be out in the wilderness and like see some rabbits and try and sketch them and be like Oh those barriers tasty Nam Nam Nam and see a deer and be like whole it berries. Are you eating mushrooms right. I mean if this was in the seventeen hundreds. You don't know what happened. There was the seventeenth century so sixteen in hundreds. "Beginning to end with my dear friends make makes any gyms okay great to have you guys in studio with me this annual occasion that we do as the Panthers to start yet another season several months ago I had the privilege of having David temperance studio with me and actually did an hour's interview with him it was an absolutely fascinating program one of the questions I asked him was what you were a big fan of the Rooney's in Pittsburgh what did you learn from the Rooney's and what might you bring here to Charlotte and his response was intriguing he said well the only negative I would say about the Rooney family was I thought they were too impatient which implies that he's not a very patient man as we look at his ownership now with the Panthers Nick let me start with you what do you think we can expect regarding his patience and his great desire to win. this is a man that has accumulated such wealth that he does not need to worry about what the economy is doing the economy needs to worry about what he's doing. so he didn't get that way by being risk averse so one of the things that impressed me the most about his tenure here is that he's put not just dollars where his mouth was when he first took over it's easy to say yeah we're gonna bring soccer we're gonna build a bubble we're gonna expand a state of the art practice facility all those things are happening. but when he had the courage to bring Eric read to the Carolina Panthers to act boldly you know DC you counsel your flock all the time that the straightest path is rarely in the easiest path is rarely the best path we're talking earlier about athletes that use their their notoriety their posture to their traction to affect some social change Tommie Smith John Carlos Muhammad Ali come to mind Arthur Ashe comes to mind there been many and it's courageous and sometimes it's hard but Eric Reid this the world didn't end when Eric retook in NY for his first national anthem as a Carolina panther we can all disagree about had a long conversation about that but the David temper. thought okay let's do it let's bring this guy in to help the team to help us win I think that's that's amazing and and it just tells you in in no small way what he's all about he he wants to bring absolute victory to the Carolinas and he's not gonna rest until that happens any of the thought so you know there's lots of categories but the two main ones are the product on the field the winning and losing part of it and then there's some stuff Nick alluded to that so that's off the field to so as far as the the not patient I mean how quickly did this team that practiced in the rain for twenty whatever years gonna practice bubble that they are able to use down air conditioning for hot days that they're going to move the facilities the practices they office staff this whole multi use complex down to rock hill happening there the pre and post game parties were used to be you the game would end and thanks get out is you know they they want you to stick around afterwards in and hang out for the fifth quarter up in the luxury suites and be there on main street before the game and these are all things are just going to add to the experience of what Panthers football and make it better for the fans make it better for the players to help with the winning by having better facilities practice bubbles you know what's going to happen with training camp the mood for obvious reasons could be in rock hill but make it's a release of seismic changes off the field met on the field I think if I always find out more about the patients is that on your Pittsburgh's known for having coach is there for a long time and they don't make changes there is the first because it Chuck knoll and they had bill Cowher now with my time on all long tenured coach is there he came in and you know learned and watched and and talked with Ron were there and the coaching staff Marty honey to GM so you didn't jump band right away with any knee jerk reactions to a seven to nine first season after the insects and into a six and two so I think he does have some of that Pittsburgh patients what comes on the field but no doubt about it he wants to win and they'll make smart moves to to win in the future but I think while he is gonna be more proactive I think he does it mindful of fact that he's taken information learning what's going on here not just coming in. and bringing his own people and doing things to Pittsburgh way you know letting people that were doing things the way the previous regime finish out what they're doing to see if this might be the way to win well he's obviously a smart man and he knows what he's doing or he would have accumulated like you said mix ten twelve billion dollars that he has in his bank account and so I think he's going to bring a leader's role to us and try to win because that's what he is called to do not make let me ask you this who were the Panthers leaders this year as you look at this team I thought it was okay me yeah. yeah we try to share that leadership responsibility among all males to be a long season and it. yeah though cannot both believe the proverbs twenty seven seventeen at just as iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another your call okay not a better now believe that the state. we both believe that smart aleck sharp and smart aleck so that's how it so we recorded the lost gospel that was found in a cave somewhere yeah amazing reading the Bible is that it's encouraging for me it was edited out along with the medics will inherit the earth okay. but anyway the the bomb squatters as you know DC so Mike Clardy JJ Jansen Graham good no Joey sly does get you could have their their I'm not saying they're unstoppable on the the the Bible in scripture and their their world view and spirituality and all that but they're they're pretty they're pretty far down the road and that's fun to talk to them who else is up on the tour you know it one of the biggest offseason addition was Gerald McCoy from Tampa Bay and he's been very outward in his faith that after practice they'll they'll have prayer and and and you know thanks after a practice and he's been very vocal with that he's been a vocal leader on this team immediately if you're talking about on the field also faith wise at training camp going on the other side of the fence to sign autographs instead of reaching over carrying his teammates helmets up the hill on a hot day which is a rookie assignment that he's coming as he's got a servant's mentality this McCourt you're talking yeah Gerald Malloy who's doing all that Sir Gerald McCoy was just here a one year contract by way six time Pro Bowl defensive lineman has come in with all that reputation and ability and is basically taken a servant attitude into terms of how he treats his teammates and being outward with his face while so looks like there are some real leaders and spiritual leaders that are on the team and that understanding of faith being an important part of the Panthers is going to continue your perspective Nick. I think yeah I think in every every sports team that I've ever worked weather is minor league baseball where they're certain faction on the team this Houdin in Holland and and come staying out all night there are there's there's baseball chapel there's another group that that sees another way high school football college football the NFL of course the NBA I think it's it's very pervasive and I would proffered that the stresses of their their work environment probably cause them to think deep thoughts is there another did that feel go hit the cross bar and bounce away. on its own did the universe tug at it is this divinely inspired that I miss the K. coming vexing questions that they turn to to learn and people like you DC to help the code well I don't know how to respond to those kind of questions except to say you know the god works all things together for good that's all unknown whether he actually calls it or he works through it is one of the questions of the universe that all most certainly ask a god when I get to heaven but you guys know the most often spoken word and have is going to be whole always got explains why we sense what his purpose was in all things I'm curious Jim let me come to you with the game today begins at one o'clock what's your pre game routine how much planning goes into what happens during that three hours from one to four you know it's something we we we kind of cycle through it every week so we we finish one and we're on to the next one I had a little bit extra time coming off the Thursday preseason game in Pittsburgh so yeah it's kind of just a cumulative everyday deal of our campus how many hours on it but there's something to kinda work on every day and we have production elements we have live elements with a three hour pregame show this will be jacked alarms first game joining us in the booth yeah we had Mike Tolbert in the preseason on radio Kevin Dolly Mike did a terrific job for being a first time analyst and has to be jacked alone for most of these games and Jordan gross doing six and A. J. doing ten of the the sixteen regular season game so looking forward to that we know without having done a game with Jake what he's about is a great personality great knowledge fun guy to hang out with that's gonna bring so much expertise to the booth that's going to be great so that'll be new this year and and that's just something where that chemistry I sense make will be pretty immediate but takes all the time just to do something new that you haven't done before but I think it's going to be terrific and folks are really enjoy listening to that I think says okay I think it's going to be must listen to radio not that people would want to eavesdrop on our conversation anyway but you add the night the iconic and I'm just kidding about that I mean I'm I'm keeping this all on Jake in Jordan but when you put these iconic caught a panther hall of honor guys and they're not only is he would be enough to just put Jake alone in there a cardboard cutout object the one because he's so popular. he's got the pedigree he's he knows the game it would be enough just on his own resume but David he is such a storyteller he enjoyed gross are so colorful they're so funny they're such good storytellers that I think is just add water. shake it up roll it out on W. B. T. L. S. all have some fun listening to a panther win today well we're gonna have a blast listening to you guys for this season we also have one more segment to go in this show and and I want to get your take on it being a profit I want you ponder Swami's Capitola your turbine look into the future and make a prediction regarding what you think the Panthers will do this season not look at how far you think they'll go I think S. I. Sports Illustrated just recently came out with a prediction of seven and nine or a repetition of last year is that what we're going to go or could the new additions to this team make us better than we've ever been before and maybe have even a close replication of several years ago sixteen into how exciting that would be that's the question when we come back I'm David Chadwick and we will be right back let's say you just bought a house.

"Sunday who skips leg days in only does offer. Obviously, that's not the case. Those treetrunks appear ready to run over whoever the hell is unlucky to get in front of him. We already know he's going to run away from anybody. We already know he's going to juke you and make you look bad. But he'll run over you too. I'm just saying that sure hell does not look like this guy walked past the incline press once without getting on it for a long time in between all those bench sessions mom was probably snorting straight way protein powder. I'm just having fun. When I say that I'm just having fun. When I said my man was probably blasting rails of way protein, but he's getting his protein one way or another actually scared for the linebackers in the NFL about catch one of those stiff arms matches pull up fellas. Don't be a hero. Do not be a hero. The NFL is all about player safety. I don't think they want anybody getting impaled on the field. Although if the calf ris did have somebody draping halfway up his elbow. Hang off him like a rag. I'm not even sure that would slow him down or even notice. So on a talk show, we all can't wait to kill somebody forgetting up there in wait for adding five pounds for getting plump forgetting fat, y'all better line up to shine. This guy forgetting swale give Christian. Mccaffrey some believing credit for real. Give credit? I mean for real for real if you're gonna blast anybody and everybody who gained five pounds give this guy credit for getting that swale. In fact. If there's gonna be three different fat alarms on deck. Then we better have a jacked alarm is that so Alvin ferris fair, let me have a jacked alarm for Christian McCaffrey right now..
