Dinesh Examines the Issue of Police Brutality

"I want to continue my on the Tyree Nichols case and the wider implications of that case. Because yesterday on the podcast, I laid out the facts of the case. The police approached the sky, they claimed that he's driving erratically, apparently one of the policemen said that he swerved in a manner as if to hit the police vehicle. Now, that is uncorroborated in the sense that we don't have any video of that. We do have his video once the police approach the car, and they yank this kid out, and they tell him to get on the ground, which he does. And he appears to be cooperating with them, and he's also like, why are you pulling me over? I'm just trying to get home. And then they tase him. And that seems to set off a reaction. He breaks free and tries to run, they Jace him down, and then of course the horrific beating begins, again, this poor kid is beaten really to death while he's crying for calling out to his mom. I mean, it's the video is really hard to watch because it's so heartbreaking. And I don't think there's anyone I haven't seen anyone in this wide landscape defend what the police did. It's an excusable. It's a clear case of police brutality. And police brutality appears to be something that does go on and I suspect it goes on even more in high crime areas. This may be the roots of the idea that the police are somehow picking on blacks, I think what happens in a city like Memphis is you got an atmosphere that is almost dangerous in the air. Devi and I experiences ourselves. We've been to Memphis more than once, but we went recently. I mean, we found it a little bit dangerous to walk two blocks

"And as unbelievable as it might seem, your ears did not just deceive you. A potential murder suspect just asked to speak with a lawyer before answering any questions. What a shock. Now, before you go ahead and commend Jace for doing the smart thing, let's not give them too much credit just yet. If you keep listening, I promise you that you won't be admiring his intelligence for very long. After Jace refused to waive his rights and opted to get a lawyer first, the police went right back to Brittany. This is pretty bad. The way he was killed was pretty bad.

"I was gone. And I recognized something in me recognize that I had been using sexual behavior in the same way that people use substances. So I was starting to put these things together that I had been using it. But here's the thing. It wasn't working anymore. The numbing out that I had been experiencing from it or the boost from it. And for me, we'll probably get into this later, but it was all about power. Sex addiction has nothing to do with sex. Not for me, not for anybody. We all have different reasons. We gravitate towards it, but for me it was power. And I started recognizing that wasn't real power. I was not getting my power back by trying to take the power of others. Side note, that doesn't work. And so it was like, if this thing, that I hate, but that's been helping me isn't even helping me anymore. What do I have left? What am I doing here? And I couldn't connect with people. I was lying to everyone. Nobody knew me. You know, we all say it, if anybody really knew me, what? There wouldn't really like me. That's right, you better believe it. I didn't like me. So I was gonna like me, you know? All of that came into this notion that me being dead was a way cooler plan. It was the only thing that made sense to me. And so I started prepping. I was in motion for my suicide. And we say a voice, but I didn't hear it. I felt it. I felt it but it had words. And I can't tell you what that means. That's elusive, but that was the experience. And it was this notion like, okay, if I have been using this behavior. And things that fall in the realm of sex addiction are vast. There's a lot of things to choose from. None of them work, by the way. Don't take that as an invocation to like, oh, there's a lot of options. No. None of them work. I recognize, okay, I'm using these things in the same way that people use substances. Does that mean that there can be addiction included in this? And if that's true, well, they got solutions over there for that substance stuff. Could bear possibly be would I be pioneering this? Maybe I'll be the first one. We laugh, but I have people contact me today that go, I'm the only one you need Jace. You and me were out here, you know, you're the only person I've heard it talked about. And I'm like, this is a $1 million industry dealing with sex addiction. You think they built that for you and me? We better get on these healing modalities, 'cause we're gonna have all these people out of business. No, come on, team. Millions. Millions of people are dealing with sex addiction..

"jace" Discussed on Parenting Great Kids with Dr. Meg Meeker

"What do I want in my life because the things the people that I love more than anything have been taken away from me and there's nothing I can do to get them back and so my journey with healing has really been about, how do I rebuild a life that still brings me joy and peace and fulfillment when it does not look how I ever expected that it would. When you experience the loss of your first two kids and then the loss of the baby did you feel betrayed, yes, I felt totally betrayed and the betrayal felt different though, the first time I really experienced the trauma of a judicial betrayal of a betrayal of systems that we think are going to protect us and then they don't. And children. And they exactly. And they don't. They don't. So that betrayal trauma from that was a lot. And then when we lost Jace, our baby boy, I felt the betrayal from my body. So the betrayal was there in both circumstances, but kind of the underlining why I felt them were too totally different things. But again, betrayals betrayal. And it feels the same. And you know, but you know now, of course, your body didn't betray you. Yeah. I know that now. And it's still something I work through. Yeah, I just can't imagine the grief, but the two types of grief and they were always around children. Can I just quickly ask, I'm going to move on, what prompted the state to take the kids back? Was it back to their biologic parents? Did the biologic parents say, whoops, we want our kids now? We didn't really mean that. Yeah, it was a very unexpected contested adoption. And I think to understand the complexity of the case we were in court for almost two years and so to understand that, then we also have to look at and understand the complexity of the foster care system in this country. And there's not a lot of laws that protect the children and there's no rhyme or reason for it. You can be with one judge and get a totally different outcome than you would if you were with another judge, which in the randomness at which people are able to impact the lives of others forever, it's a lot, but that's why it's because we had an unexpected contested adoption and there's not enough laws that protect the safety of children in the foster care system. Amen. And if you can ever or anybody out there can help us figure out what we can do and how we can quote begin to fix that system, please. Let us know in right. So you have written this amazing book. I am here the journey from fear to freedom and on the cover. It's so cool. After just having heard your story, you're standing there with your arms up to the sky. Looking as though you're rejoicing. You've divided the book up into three parts. And I'll have to tell you when I read the first part I was like, I don't like that because you were really pushing buttons. The first part of this good. I mean, the first part of the book, the first section is reframe your thoughts. The second is reimagine your future with a clarity map, and then the third is reclaim your power. So the second and third I could do. But the reframing your thoughts is hard. And you write a couple of things. One is, what if one chapters? What if it's not fear? What if it's love? And I thought, no, no, that doesn't make any sense. And I think that's what kind of I was like, I don't like that. I don't know why I didn't like it, but I didn't like it. So talk to me about what do you mean what if it's not fear? What if it's love? I love this, and I think that a lot of us, I think that most of us feel really uncomfortable with fear. And so then it makes sense to me that as you're reading it, feeling that that uncomfortable feeling that fear brings for me, learning how to reframe my thoughts so that I don't get stuck in those places like fear has been the most important thing for me on my healing journey because it opens up this pathway for me to move forward. When we lost our older two kids, I spent most of my waking hours. I guess I'm sleeping hours too in fear and it was fear that I was never going to see my kids again. It was fear that I failed as their mother. It was fear that they don't know if I love them. It was all these stories of fear that I just kept cycling over in my head. And one day I was driving home from a therapy session actually. And I saw a little girl who looked like my little girl and I had to pull over on the side of the road because I just I just broke down. I just missed, I miss her. I missed her so much that I didn't know how to keep breathing and moving through that. And the sphere over overtook me and I just had this little thought and it was, what if it's not just fear? What if there's something else that's fueling these emotions? Because any time that I felt the fear, I would just get stuck in it and it would become this whole body experience that it's overwhelming. It hits every cell in your body. And you can't do anything when you're living from the state of fear all the time. And so I sat there and I just asked myself, I said, is there something that's deeper than this? Can there be something that is deeper than this fear that I'm feeling? And as I just sat and really talked to myself asking myself questions, what I realized was that a profound sense of love was really driving my feelings. My love for my children is why I miss them so badly. It's why I want them to be okay and happy and feel joy in their lives. That's why I want to spend my time with them and I miss those times that we had together. And from that moment, I thought to myself, okay, well, what if it's not fear, what if it's love? What if deeper than the fear is this positive emotion that I can anchor to? Instead of anchoring to fear because when I anchor to fear it, it sucks me of all my power, all my energy, all of my thoughts, but if I can anchor myself to love, then that's a power source, then it feeds me allows me to keep moving forward and the feelings that are generated between fear and love are two completely different things. And I just learned that what was at the base of everything that the love that most of us I think in our lives of the things that we're afraid of, we're afraid of losing the people and things that we love. But at the end of the day, love lasts forever. And so no matter what happens, we can't actually lose the thing that we're all afraid of losing and making that connection for me kind of allowed myself to start unchaining myself from fear to figuring out, okay, how can I start making steps forward now? As I hear you talking about making that switch from fear to love, my first reaction is, yeah, but it's love that accompanied by tremendous amount of sadness and grief. Did that ever get in your way of anchoring yourself in love? Of course, because so for me, I, for a long time thought that I could outrun the grief and sadness or I wanted to believe that I could. Because I wanted to run faster than I wanted to take on more work. I wanted to travel. We moved across the country after selling everything that we owned. I just thought if I can just move faster than this grief, then maybe I can mask it for a little bit. But what I learned is that you can't outrun it and instead you have to learn how to sit with it and then figure out steps moving forward. And so for me, as I look on my life and as this love is tied to a tremendous amount of grief, a question that I was asked that I always go back to is knowing what you know now, would you still have chosen to be your children's mother? And every single time the answer is yes, a 1000% I would do it a thousand times again to be able to have experienced their love to be able to give my love to them to experience our family together. And so any time the grief starts overtaking, I go back to the thought of, I would choose to do this over and over again because of the love that was a result of the four of us. One of the other things that you talk about is what if we don't need to let it go, what if we need to embrace it? And I've heard people say to me during times of difficulty..

Can google them the actor talking about it when he's talking he's co he's always you know he's like counting on fingers always these little ticks and but i thought it was brilliant. Because he was he was the most financial wizard right exactly. But you know he's got socially i've seen a few of my run from him you know he's matthew you got embraced him as a brother are okay. Why you just got they. They're they're hated. And i think if you read his calling. Let me read the mark to. I'll give you my thoughts on why they did that. This is this is mark to thirteen once again. Jesus went out the side of the lake. A large crowd came to him and he began to teach him as he was long. He saw levi sitting at the tax collectors booth. Follow me. jesus owed him and levi got up and follow him while jesus was having dinner. Levi's house many tax collectors and centers were eating with him and his disciples for there were many who followed him when the teachers of the law. Who were i saw him. eating with. The centers in May keep saying that over and over there samples y z what tax collectors considers own. Hearing this. jesus said it is not the healthy who need a doctor but the sick i have not come to call the righteous but sinners so in matthew nan hunan which he he has the same story but now it's not so i guess he's writing about himself. Wow eight nine chapters and why why use matthew instead leader. Well that's why. I said because it i think that matthew main in the gift of god was some kind of message to him about who got is and what he was doing. I mean i think he was in a world. Where if you're smart enough in you you're getting paid and you're in with the right people you can be you know successful your official which was which was a monarchy and and you and he was one of the boys ads because he's the one that leeson the people out of their money in most tax collectors reason they were so hated not only were they representing get taking money for the romans and the jews by the way hair and they were getting our country has taken what the romans dead and extended that even at least we don't have another country coming in taking taxes and then people working for those that would be worse is what i'm saying. And that's what was going on here because they were occupies but and most tax collectors would shave off money for themselves. You remember when zaccheus his story he was like he when he finally got it. Jesus he was like. I've been fleecing people and i'm gonna give you know four times what i stole them because he had a moment you know he was like but that gave me an insight into matthew. We never never says he was skimming but you know he was because they all it's how they they made money. Well i just think it's significant that the name got changed matthew which means the gift of gone. I think there's something there one guy read. He knows it to and what he said. Because there's another thing in here. I think i wrote down the nose. But that one of them calls in one of the descriptions as a son of alpha's yet says that an and then there's there's another disciple james the son of outfits so you wonder if his brother was a disciple which would have kinda gone land within their but they've had of been a little friction there where i'm i'm working with the crowd and the other one is well one guy said that i read. He said he thought that he would have been known as levi except that once. He was kind of excommunicated by from his family when he task lakers. You're chain but was interesting. It changed a gift of god which is like to your point. That's an interesting name. Really taxable thing. There's nothing you can do.

"Here's this guy who's now as kids enrolled at a christian school three states away and the guy who share jesus with him is fixing it. Up speaking was a it was a nice. It was just a nice encounter to to get a report twenty years later. Felt good about that. So so you shoot from from here. And now george lives so i don't know what he's talking about generations and everything because he has not his wife and kid out because i saw where he was sitting you know when i got up there and i actually invited him while will they got preaching somewhere sunday and he was like really was like. Oh yeah and so it but he also sewing there so which was cool so i did the school thing which i didn't feel like was because i'm you know me i'm i'm just going with strong coffee in the holy spirit note. I'm just introducing. Jesus built my first two or three attempts to break the ice. I'll as they told us in school just crickets. Because i pulled up onto this place and i looked around. I mean the stadium look like basically our our public high school stadium who's won numerous state championships. I mean it was quite the spread. Everything was neat. They had the practice facilties. The buildings were also. And so. I said i pulled in here and i i realized that either. Y'all have a really good football team or somebody around. Here's got a lot of money. Which i thought was funny but it was just nothing fail. Flat fell flap. So then on the way over there i said what is this city famous for the name of the city was i think it was locust grove locus. What does this city famous for. And the two guys given us the ride. They both kind of stopped and thinking there's one of them said we got a train station. That's always unique. So i thought well that was funny because i thought so. I said that. I said i asked what locust grove is famous for us and that was a long awkward. Paul's i said the guy in the past time you could travel through here and stay here. We have a train station. Which i thought was funny. If that's the best thing you could come up with nothing cricket so at that point. I was feeling a little bit awkward. Saw thought you know what. Let's just get to jesus in it. Pretty much just went as powerful as i could. A forty five minute introduction. Jesus was someone down in the south texas. The wife of dusty. He'll he was the bass guitar picker with the top. Yeah tell us how that went. Well because you know somebody said thank you just wife said he requested when he passed over to the other side i would. He requested that they get in touch with me and say a few words and and told them you go back to genesis four jal. He was the father of those who live intent. It was jubal no jamaa. That's his brother. General was brother but but one of them jalal he was he. He was known for making living intents and raising laugh stock. He had they had a pinch. Like ranchers you say. That's abc's tanabe. According to the bible that there are certain skill sets that you see and people tend to be very good at what they're doing genesis four says the dna is put in them by god The brother he's brothers name was jubilo and he was the father of all who play the stringed instrument and the bleeped so dusty being a a connoisseur of picking guitar. I listen to him for years. I decided i said. I think a good text. And i started. Jay's did you bring up or what was his name are brought up brought up them and I just mentioned it. Did everybody chuckle or now it. It was quite but But i did bring up. Said brothers said the reason. I'm here just inform yow i said. Peter said that dusty has just departed from his tent a temporary tent our bodies. He's departed from that biblically. Speaking and his soul is with the lord well in spirits in heaven but his body is asleep so i just quoted him brothers. We don't want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep. The thesselonians four eleven. Yeah are to grieve like the rest of men who have no hope. We're at a funeral here. But we're told the apostle paul told the thesselonians listen other words. We don't want you to get confused about what happens when you die because ziza's has already said whoever lives and believes in me will never die. So do you believe this. He said so. We believe the reason why we shouldn't grieve like the rest to me. And it'd be ignorant about physical. Death is because we believe that. Jesus died and rose again. Now there's the gospel as the centerpiece when it comes to talking about physical death you say you better make sure that you believe that jesus died and rose again or you had something to be worried about. So and so. We believe hacker. This be that god will bring with jesus. This is judgment day those who have fallen asleep in so they didn't die. You have the ones who went to hail and the ones who went. I've gone to heaven. And if you believe that jesus died and rose again you're on the heavens side of it. So here comes god bring in with jesus all those who have fallen asleep. Well we know what it's not their bodies. The bodies in the cemetery down here on earth are bin exploded when a mortar. Hit him if they were in the you say But there's still hope and nowhere as according to the lord's own word we tell you that we are still alive. If you haven't physically died yet. When he shows up and are left to the coming of the lord certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep something happens. The resurrection is first. Resurrection of the day edmund. Jesus returns bringing all those souls got himself. Come down from heaven loud. Command voice of the archangel with the trumpet. Call of god. I was telling these people about this and i was somewhat I was not doing this in a low key manner. Oh really no. I i raise my voice. Hey dan hang.

"You know the turnoff do. They killed your creatures ridiculous. There was also Dr boom and that's that was a classic seven minus seven seven but came into play created three bombs and they were creatures that you would attack with. They died they dealt row damage random enemies creatures and stuff like that and hartson soma such a good game for they brought that in and then after they brought that in i was like i have no interest in this game and to be fair. I think that's part of the reason why are soon became so popular because you've got so many crazy moments captured onstream one hundred percent. Yep admiralty casualty. Talking love that My friends great obstinate. He loved these crazy situations. That you find yourself in like you auxerre on your the ten mana kosta random spell through from the history of heart stone for every value played up until this point and so it was like it was like match game. storm cast rodham spell. So sometimes it would be like you'd fireball yourself in the face twice guy and that other times it'd be like you fill your board up. Wipe their board and you draw seven cards or something like completely random one life thirty life new hire their face three times in a row when they had at seven targets yep the the same thing was like it was just a good card because the way you played it was if you were ahead you just didn't play it but if you were behind it was just an escape file for you said fuck it. I'm behind eldest. Played us and see what happens like pure essence of orangey that card yet in fairness hit and acted in fairness like none of the mechanics in this limited set really are so number carson. This limited really do dot crazy things. Don't you rule you roll nine and describe your role tan these. Yeah i mean it's pretty fine without like so for me. It's kind of the opposite direction or the opposite side of the coin when it comes to this ad because okay say for example. There's like the spell that if you've got a one to nine you just bounce the enemy creature if you get a ten to a nineteen you put her top deck great. Then if you've got a twenty you gain control of the creature for the turn. I know the under darnall. yes yes. Dakar's lewis busted five hundred nine. No not either. We'll pass it up. You do not ever. Yeah like you would prefer to have a balanced bell in your data then lack of treason generally right into better card. You guys are wrong very good. So what happens at the time you buy the car from signed hop time. You've got a one for one five percent of the time you win the game like you get you get you gain control of the creature until end turn adds it with the car does yeah. Yeah you'd want trees in it..

"But you're generally going to be dealing damage to yourself anyway so you might be accurate in saying that you have to opponent like five times yet. So it's like for those who played like the final fantasy card game for example. It's kind of like that where it doesn't matter if you hit them with a one one or a ten ten you you've hit them all matters that the actual damage valued the damage value. Only maters when it gets blocked basically am and you also played two copies of a car that as free essentially it has it has amana cost but you cast it instead by exiling regard. So it's like adele spell what is completely gun and it's a it's a twenty five thousand jewel attacker and so it's larry hogan yeah it is of like who actually yeah. I think that's a fair comparison. You're playing hookah and generally what you're gonna data is. You're gonna play the who you're going to tap three energy for a card that says all of your putting spells cost walmart cast and then you're gonna attack with your back and then you're going to play your client. Ferries once twice three times. Get all your amount of back and then you're gonna have you know the rest of your to do more shit with you. Also play you've all you've also drawn for free cars you've drawn for free cards. Which if you've ever played your typical control decks with sphinxes ravs or sunshine Whatever you're you're drawing more copies of that card and just so you're all playing a bunch of just like stupid stuff like There's a card that show based lots of stuff in your deck tops stuff on your point inside the fields. Whenever you tap something on your bill gets pay too much and you get to play a twenty five park. Richard that taps any of your choice of energy or creatures..

That's because you put a little a little as as say little kids and see a little heat here. Wait a minute not guilty. If you see dude. I've always thought policy always framed everytime it talks about the gospel. You notice from the very first chapter. He'll say the to do and then to the gentile makes this point of saying this is for the whole world. So i've always felt these first two verses in chapter twelve. He sorta aimed at both those groups of people because they have totally different ways of living. And now he's working with all these towels. They don't have a background in temple worship except for false guys. They don't know about any of that stuff. Jesus rampal president of the united states. I'm not balsam. I'd vote for him. You know what i'm saying already have already. Yeah he's in parallel passage of the living sacrifice and from their jewish. History is in hebrews. Thirteen eleven where he made this analogy. The hebrew said the high priest carries the blood of animals and in the most holy place as a sent offering but the bodies are burnt outside the camp. Which is what they did under the law and the national of israel and it says verse twelve though and so jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood so basically just giving you a picture of the world. He he came to the world. He came to that which was at his own basically crucified him for everybody but then it says let us then go to him outside the kale bearing the grace he bore. Which is the idea of a living sacrifice in the world. Not the camp because that was his lifestyle amount. I love this because then he says for here. We don't have an endurance. City are looking for the city to this. Come through jesus let us continually offer to god. A sacrifice of praise the fruit of lips that confess his name and don't forget to do good and to share with others with such sacrifices. God is pleased. I think it gives you a better image of how like when you view. God's mercy god is communicating. How does communicate. Well that's through. Jesus is the image of god and it's not it's more than believing you're right. It's it's a daily realizing the difference in saying something as true and then realizing it's true once you realize it's true like when you so we might mourn with those more and but it's hard to do that when you're your heart is not linked with god and you're getting his spiritual presence in your heart this leading to that. Every time i get a frontal assault with with profanity aimed at me. I'm i'm i'm silent but you say but and your your your face doesn't come up with a grand but you're smiling and sad. I'm smiling inside when i'm here. What they're saying about. Jesus christ just a high. I'm inside. i'm like lord. This is this is i get it. Yeah yeah i get it. But i'm not a whole against the maybe they'll maybe they'll repent. Why didn't that's in this tax linlin mop paul. But i take me to a country embalmer country. What embalmer. oh you didn't want to just one guy shack in the middle of the woods. I get them in there. A few on at the lakes spread your your keep the show low key. Keep the show though key key you honest like just to make you ashes put you in an iron and then spread you out in the river stress the departure part and not a passing away part. We lost oldfield because he died now now more here. He's a little closer to have these come a long way in his faith because about twenty years ago we had this conversation and he said look. Just don't put me in a cemetery. I don't if you remember this. You said just make a box. Don't buy it. He's a make it put me in it. He said and then just find the curb or whatever and just dump me out river positive illegal. It is illegal. Yeah i didn't realize against the law enforcement it is. It is the reason why is because a funeral and people have gotten them with legislators. Now you have to be embalmed by certain bearded is go. Anything or burr. I mean you can be cremated immediately. And that's the cheapest way to go. Yeah its not cheaper and just dump it in a whole but like say. We're thank. I'll just go with the old style burial card for the guy who owns a funeral home. I have made more jokes of that. Got like because heals your credit card game online where she shovel you know and like you. Arctic graveyard shift. Last night. he was late. "jace" Discussed on Unashamed with Phil & Jace Robertson

"Oh it's big news list episode around. Fill my whole life on this. It under wraps now's the time as is this show is going to be the revelation so we need to just go look for this and whatever happens. We can't go out there until we we gotta have a curry became mccurry. Obviously i would bet you and look. Here's what i know. I know that humans made it that thing. Yeah and i know that they put it in the ground there. I don't know whether they dug a gigantic hole and got down in there and built this thing and then covered it back up to the alien because it's no no it just there so somebody put it there and we have no idea what what do we think the purpose was for because they had had a possibly was a cistern. The water off your house and yet fund will go into it. Yeah and everytime grain you'd you'd maybe it was for water. A lot of people don't realize when we were raised. Your dad hear the only water we had was water coming off the house and there was a tank sitting up on you know structure and add a phone call from the house. Most third world countries are still young and it ran down the ran down the way you call them the yeah on the side of your roof gutters the gutter run down gutter and run over that tank and we drank water water tap. We'd we drank water from rainwater. Rainwater had so. It was fine until you crawl up there. We were kids and we looked down in there and it looked pretty rare. Not scummy but there was. What's interesting mall. this is fine and just. I was surprised that i was when i saw it. I told us it. I'm just glad to be alive after drinking is. I didn't know it looked like that. He's either but now we know what happened. This has been. It was either that or dvd tree. Right there next to cotonou gums up. Ddt balls on everybody inside the rain water. I'm not we're drinking. Ddt come along and spread out of the back of a truck and the kids. And i'll run along running behind playing raining. Twenty years goes by and they said this is the most deadly pause and you could ever have poison. Let's run by hand. Explains a lot. We were talking about during during the one of the commercials about what your favorite piece of furniture is and when you think about all we're doing when we met we're just finding old things that people all our where wherever people congregated. So the other night. I was having dinner with missy and corinna nicaraguan dollar and for some reason we came up kind of like what we were doing that commercial about. What's your favorite furniture will somehow another. It's like we came up with the idea. If you were on a deserted island and you could only bring five things what would you bring and just off the top of my head. I my mind was racing. Will they started naming the things that they would take a mri. Her first thing was a blanket. That wasn't just a blanket. And i'm like that's the first thing and then she's like beans and rice. Why we to and she said. Of course you know me a lot. That's shifts understood until a ten year number three behind beans and resting. Well i think it just occurred to her a i better say jas but i thought well i thought this was ever man and woman for type deal but then carino was like well a journal in like a box of pens i was liar. What is wrong with you. And they're like what do you mean i was like. I'm bringing a gun about about a knife. The largest spool of monofilament line in the world and they were allowed. Why would you bring the as like you're not gonna live long with a blank in an journal are short. Stay here you live about a week or two at best but the more i got more we got talking about it. It's all it's it's really about your role you know in a family. It's like i'm. I'm going to protect us and mri was going to make us comfortable in korean. She's going to document. I'll these documents because she's just taken for granted that we're going to take care of the because she's like. Oh i'm coming with y'all yard. Two of the people i'm bringing so i just thought it was interesting when you think about the stuff we find stuff people lose out. The valuable stuff is things that are of that. People didn't want to lose. You know so it was an interesting com brain to deserted island where you could make you a fire with anything so i brought that up to though i said what 'cause you first you say matches but what if they get wet. Or how long are you going to be there. He says ride a gun and a knife and some rope string. Ukiah could survive rope staying. You know many to start a fire. Maybe with the rock. And i use wire to tie those steel traps on catching these coons stuff. I always got a roll of wire. And i'm trying to this net nothern case on monday. Go jumping around effort when you catch him but but it would be stuff like that something you could use to catch something. Her trap something. Well macy said pimas oh enough penicillin awesome. No actually five thousand five things that would be. One of medicine. Wouldn't be bad so was it was just three doing those little game. Oh we did it but it went from. We laughed we cried. We argued for the it just like became this consuming light. Let's sit down and continue the conversation after the meal because it just may run and the knife would be and plenty of ammo. If you had that you could pretty well survive. And that's pretty much. I mean most of us carry that. What's not only deserve brought it up because it made me think about how you know worldly we are about things we think we need. There's all these foreigners from europe coming across the ocean land on one east river system new orleans be a good place start going up and they get up in here alabama landing. They call that from people who came up here way back and they would say we're going for y'all going going west and it landed up style river they'd have mom wagon. Somebody was had supplies but they would just take off across that thang headed west angling up sort of ended up in kansas nebraska. On up you know some got all the way around the west coast but you just think about all they add was what they had so this is not like a far fetched picture. Where you'll never find yourself there. I mean close to the new ground is already been as already been run over but you just think about the kind of people want to cross a and what little they had and they made it but you talking about a tough bunch didn't make it. That's what happened. We we divided the categories. You.

The Queen's Gambit (Netflix Mini-Series 2020)

"Still in their top five I remember correctly. Is the queen's gambit. It was number one don't know where it is. Right now. I still think it's the number one show streaming right now on the streamer, but it is about the orphan who becomes A chess Phanom. And she learns chess from the maintenance man downstairs in the orphanage and her life. Just kind of goes from there, and I'm keeping it purposely broad, cause I so want you and I've been I've been guilty of Oversharing and I want to I want you guys to Kind of unfold the show for yourself because that's that's part of the magic of it, because it's so gosh darn good. We talked about it last week. Alexis is back and you watched it a cz. Well, I watched everything. Jeez, I could not stop watching it. And they binged it in four days. Completely just watched the whole thing. It's about what we did. Yeah, I'm with you. Oh, man. It is so good. Now I don't know much about chess. So I think that if you do love chess, you'll even get more in terms of the moves because they really had a really cool way of showing how they do it with the shadows of the ponds and the different You know pieces and then the boards. You know how they do the different moves. And what did the bishop do? And you know all of that, And there's all of these different ways to come at it. You know, different theories and thiss guy does it this way, and he always moves this first and so That was kind of lost on me. But it just It was such a great story and a great reminder that if you want to be the best at what you dio, it takes a lot of hard work a lot of dedication. And also trying around it. Right and remembering the people around. You mean I think about LeBron James and Michael Jordan. Serena Williams. Now, of course, this is in the sports world. Tom Brady, You know, like you are a goat. You really do need to work. You know, they're not out partying and having fun, And that's kind of the same case with the in the Queen's gambit, she Beth. She's just really focused on her goal of being the best chess player. I love that she didn't really focus on her gender, but the media did. And but it's still a hard world to be in when it's all it's all men like, generally older sixties in the fifties and sixties, So you know at the time it's during the Cold War. There's already tensions between the U. S and the Soviet Union already at that time, and then the best chess players come from the Soviet Union. So it was really reflective of the time to mean just in a chess game, So I really like that. I like the full circle aspect of the story toward the end. Again. I don't want to give too much away like you, said Jace. But itjust they answer a lot of questions that you may have as you're watching it and satisfying answers. I see what Yeah, yeah. Don. Where are you? I am just finished Episode four They're going to attack a lot into each episode, though. I mean, even by the end of the first one, you're like, Whoa. This is like a full movie. I just watched her. That's so true, Don. Yeah. In the anime pack a lot in. I mean so much. It's like the opposite of what they did with blind manner, not enough material that they snatched into. Ah, really long boring. Story That was way too many episodes. This is very efficient and I love the writing. You get to know her and what she's all about, Really? Not necessarily through the dialogue, but what they show you. Yes. Great writing, Thie. Other thing. It's the fashion one. Everything she wore. This will be nominated for costume design. Don't you think? Absolutely, without a doubt, the production design and the wardrobe. They're They're co stars. They're they're absolute co stars, and she carries it. She carries it so well, those clothes you know that old saying the the clothes don't wear you. You wear the clothes. She wears those clothes girl. I mean, she capital. W wears out, though, that wardrobe and Well, I just want to be her and Lex. I don't know if you felt this way, said this to dawn last week in the most complimentary way possible. I was sad. I was sad at the conclusion not because of the conclusion, but because I wanted more time with Beth, I interesting. I don't often have that reaction to characters. Um, you know, like Star Wars. I just, You know, I want to hang out with Ray and I want to know what's happening and all that stuff. But I really I'm sad that I'm not going to be invited in her world anymore. Well, that's what I was going to ask you because it does look like maybe a season two is in the works. Really? Yeah. There at least floating the idea around what it could be. Will they bring it back for a second season s wires asking that and It's not renewed. Of course, there's no news about that. But this next season would dive into her love life, her family history, that type of thing. I had the opposite reaction. I feel like this miniseries. It was perfect. In the way that they told it. I don't know if I need to know more. I love I love how it ended, and just That's great. Yeah, I'm not saying I want it because they'll mess it up, right? That's what I'm worried about. Yeah, I It's like big little lives. You know, the first was based on a book and that was near perfect. And then you went back, and you basically forced the author to create another story in a short amount of time. And you know, it wasn't a natural process. You gave the A writer. A hard deadline. I don't think you know. Not all. Not all creatives work well with that s O this. Yeah, but I was Muchas. I'm sad for that desire to him, Not with her. I would rather have that than an unsatisfying Sequel Hard to beat that this is Yeah, because this is just a compliment. I I miss her. I want to know what she's doing, but I'll rely on my imagination for that, and I'm fine. It's just It's just a huge compliment to the writer of the novel into the two the creatives behind this miniseries. They did such a good job that they made me want, Maura and that Whatmore could you ask for with a creative endeavor? You know Jerry Seinfeld, No one to get off the stage. They're off the stage and I miss her because she's so freaking cool. I want to have with her. I want her to be my friend. And then I want to steal all of her clothes. Be nude. That's not nice. Other things, didn't you guys? Yeah, No kidding. Just gorgeous. Benny Watts. The character who the guy who plays many Watts, Thomas Brody Stang stur. Yeah, He's that kid from love, Actually, Yeah. Grew up guys. He looks exactly the same thing just looks like someone pulled them from his head. Hold his legs and to stretch them a little bit. Was he also in finding Neverland with Johnny Depp? Yes, I think so. The writer of Peter Pan. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, but it just looks like someone stretched him. You had put a mustache auto. And then the other kid is from Harry Potter. Yes, friend of her selling. Is Perry's cousin, His awful cousin that he lives with. Yeah, deadly Douglas. Yeah, and he's the other person and I just like I said this to dawn. I just like that the old you know, one of the themes that I realized after the fact is really about loneliness, you know, Beth the character and we're talking queen's gambit as we wrap it up here on Netflix. You know, it's a great lesson where sometimes you just see what's right in front of your face. And Beth did that. Beth was guilty of thinking that she was very alone. She was on ly kind of looking within just a few inches of her face. But if she just looked around She just looked a little bit to her left and right. She realized she really wasn't alone. And I think that's a good universal lesson for all of us that sometimes when we do feel very isolated and alone where we really are not, itjust takes Takes a moment to look around. And Beth really was Beth her whole life and, understandably, so she felt alone. But she really never wasn't. She always had people that was rooting for her, but she just never internally felt that way. Andi. I've found that fascinating to examine in that show. So the Queen's gambit everybody on Netflix If you haven't it, it's
