"That's what I remember about. So because what before we do that there's all kinds of things like. You know drinking this punch that they have and and bobbing for apples and doing all kinds of crazy things and and so we. Were ready to, burn him. we're all kind of not in our best shape and. Is So high did that. I you know it was pretty frightening I. And so I remember that and I remember going to the BBC's. Station and I went to a dog raise. So as I said, these are things that you know I didn't do. Museums and things like that then. I went to come. Different things but you know you're in your mid twenties. Right. So after coming back to the states. You know in kicking around for a little bit. You actually ended up meeting mom now I, you know I have a little bit of an advantage here because I know mom was you know she went to? Berkeley. She participated in the the protests against Vietnam what was it like you know meaning someone? Who is so anti, you know that anti-vietnam not war and then telling her that you were a veteran or someone that had served in the United States. Well for army. And I I don't think that we were particularly political time On met you your mom A. Jaas. Santa. Barbara you know or I went back to. Uc San, by Isla, Vista will good my. Good friend was getting his PhD and he was still there and I got a job working with the children you're mostly disturbed at a a school. and. They took summer interns from colleges and one of them was your mom. and so. she had one more year to go at Berkeley. So we focused pretty much on what we were doing at at the school and working with. Kids and you know. I I would kinda had changed I wanted to..

"Yes. Think the Atlanta. That's GonNa take well for Grammy Improv Teacher. In high school that one for you. Yes so if you're brand new to the show. Guest grump is a segment where we are going to go around the screens around the my expert call around Robin and guess who's GonNa have the lowest rating out of the group? Now it's a from zero to five no matter how high the number is however You are if you're the one in the group you are going to be the for the week And we encourage everyone to play along and cory will have a little segment from our on Asian. I will join our nation. You have the chance to participate in a poll. Your name shout out if you get the guests that grump right and a lot of the Times. A lot of people actually do. It's very interesting to see. Guess that grumpier guests are gator learning us. They're learning So since that always changes and were never right I'm going to go first and guess that the GRUMP for this episode will be Josh. Okay one for Josh. It's a really actually a really weak. Because I really WANNA guess for Ali but I'm going to say Josh for to make it spicy. Cut My comey on the Tom. Tom Guess Volley thing hop me. She got buddy. I'm looking at my screen trying to judge who it will be. Jaas wrong Josh. Yeah I know unless unless you are a judge in a court of law okay. I'll Ali Ali all right see smart so five. Oh man that we're GonNa all right. Allie what you got. I'm GonNa go with caitlin spread. The love spread the law. Look look at it. It'd be like You right that despite and then I'll take Caitlyn as well and no votes for time. Corey interesting all right. Josh as well so we have a three way tie for Josh. Leeann Kayla and then a two way tie for being Tom. Going I So probably I'll go first then Tom. Then the three of you can do it out. I don't care Thunderdome but now into the complete spoilers is that is that not wrong. I know you're you're right. Yeah I usually jump the gun on that one so I just WanNa make sure. And if you're across the pond our first impressions we. I don't know what we came up with any me. This put that I made up this entire pocket. I don't know where it came from but you now see we. We gotta take the we never the I but yeah. I'm getting out of the car so everyone at home listening. And we're still in spoiler free county so we are going to do our initial reactions. We I thought when we Came upon this work of Art and Without hopefully about spoiling so for me new mutants was always something that I felt was very fluid. Kind of like You can't really tell what direction it's going in and I'll talk a little bit about that later on after our Meat and potatoes and after the race car attracts. Someone's drag racing room so yeah no new means have always been kind of a little foreign to me. Because I didn't know really. What was the the the premise of it until actually like maybe later on in college after like join keeps sater's and everything like that like I understand what more with the x men immune landscape was like Because you know there's so many team ups and you're kind of where it is. A new means fall in line After reading this I definitely. I'm it's it's funny because on comedy two options you have deemed bear saga and the of Denver Saga of the collection And Giving you reading this. You definitely get a full picture of like. This is how the team functions and operates and I think it was a really interesting and effective thing and there's a little like Not a forward because it happens at the beginning but like some of the happens at the end talks about. How going back. It's like a time capsule. It's not really something like a rerun like a TV show But more like a this interesting where we came from and how we are where we are. Now Yeah And it's it's cool that you know. If you go on any top essentials like you know what Kambakhsh three for Nubians like this is always like number one And it talks about like how the the team is. So I if you're looking to start a new combo especially with something that's not super like save the day and all that a little bit more about the drama This is this is a good place to go Yeah I'm next I mean all right a little bit of a background like Yeah I asked to push this episode A week because this is this is unlike anything that we've ever read. It is quite long but it is also. It's it's quite a collection I mean it is. It is called the epic collection so normally we just do like a collection line. Yeah but it's going into it. I didn't know much about the new mutants except for A movie the movie is coming out but also like a couple of ago when the FX show legion. I didn't know I only like found out like. Oh it's it's related to X. Men I started doing a little research on that and I was like the new mutants. What is this but I didn't read anything And so this is my first experience with the new mutant so it was really to and it was kind of a breath of fresh air. Because like Tom what you were saying that like it's not as Superhero E. You get to get like kind of back story of everybody. You get to see like their their interactions with each other. And then there's also some kind of superhero moments and stuff like that so I really really dug it. Actually I really dug it The artwork I was like wow. This is so cool but Yeah that's my first impression back to someone else. I'll go is as tom would say about himself. I feel like I in. This group believes the X. men and I mean I'm holding this right here right behind me. I have my My on my trades and I I I I'm not as familiar with the new mutants stories the characters I am But I had only read maybe one or two new mutant comex. None of them were included in this collection. So this was all foreign territory for me There were a lot of aspects. I really loved about this. Like lifetime. Said it's just it's very much so about the the people themselves rather than you know fighting to to save the day In the inner workings of like what it's like to become involved in the X. Men and the the Charles Xavier lifestyle. That he's that he's kind of built name or back right and like what? It's like to attend that school when you're not cyclops or night crawler or you know all these people and and the pressures that that actually has and so. The stigma of being the new kids It was very fascinating to read. I am a big fan of legion The TV show in the character. So getting to to read this one was was very refreshing to touch on that But all in all. I really enjoyed my time. I ended up reading it. Even though it's five hundred pages I ended up reading it twice. So Ju just also add on The tone feels very much like what the nineties cartoon was. Yeah I'll admit it since it spans some years. These comics It the tone shift pretty dramatically as you go along Some spots I wasn't as Enthralled in and we'll get into that a little later but overall I would recommend this like you said anyone who's looking to kind of jump into something a little different in the in the mutant world. Yeah Kaelin Raleigh. I can go cycle. You have prien okay. Yeah I mean I. I went into this Super Blind like I Tom Knows that my my first real exposure funny enough to the new mutants is the Fox. Maybe that's eventually going to come out as the recording of this we don't know when And I kind of immediately dismissed just because it was a Fox Xm Property Hoffy about. That did give it the time of day whilst the trailer was. I didn't know what the characters were had no exposure to. The comics cartoons. Anything like that and so jumping into this. I didn't really know what to expect. I just knew it was a little bit older than what I mostly of what I've read for x men usually most Have read has been from the nineties and two thousands So I was very pleasantly surprised. Right off the bat to Kinda get that sort of like charming old school. Feel right off the Bat And which is which is very much the Artwork of Forget sal maybe Bassima and his colouring crew will go over the years later later on as the person who now I can't read it now. I know who know everyone at home listening as well like the one that Kinda suggested not to do sports at this point and we all say good idea so now I'm every spoiled is what is it like twenty issues that we read including if you include the annual in there and have to say like my whole experience reading it it was so charming and so like it was so pleasant to see the evolution of the series over twenty issues. It's insane to see where it starts where it ends up and you're like wait for you. Maybe take a couple of decades tap and like as far as like the tone and the feel and the artwork and all that stuff So it was really cool to kind of see that progression and to read Nubians annual number one. Which will talk about So yeah overall overall so This I only knew about new mutants so far as the trailer for the new movie. That's coming out Is Concerned But I had watched that trailer like when it first came out. And then I hadn't revisited it 'cause I was like I don't want any of this is An reading this it was like a mix of like dnd OC characters and wrestling. Yeah within the comic. They would have ads for other sports like this. That's the this is the first time I've encountered like bad loading different comics comic site ever like citing citing coming very common like. Check out this issue. We're talking like maybe I just hadn't seen as frequently like maybe a popped up once or twice but I just wasn't really cognizant of frequent in the older stuff not anymore. Yeah that makes sense but but it was very interesting to like how all of these it seriously felt like wrestling. It felt like Like there was the versus the undertaker episode on Saturday night. It didn't know me a little bit which I'll get into later but it wasn't like a huge problem The way that they handle everything the way that the characters Jeld And then kind of the issues. They brought up. There were a couple of dicey things but.

"I it's you guys are insecure with insecurity. It's whatever the normal thing you would do as a professional of what's expected. Instead young player. You do that. Would you do that to your backup quarterback made the wrong re? Yes. But that, that would do that independent of whether or not he was a rookie. I would assume that's what's expected in the relationship between the starting quarterback in the back of everybody gets together. You talk about what's going on. And what you see, but he's, I don't think he's got to do extra for you want drew lock. It's on him to be following Joe flacco. Yes. Responsible west. Yes. Getting in and doing all right. That's, that's drew locks job. Not joe. Flacco flacco and Brett farve say I'd take as well. I'm not going go out on my way said, hey, come here, son. This is what you need to go out of the way. It's on the, you know, it's on the young guy to make sure they're doing the work, right? They need to come up to you and sit down on the bench with you. When you're looking at what just happened on the field on that lasts? But we'll see if they're going to do that Joyce, eat a quarterbacks smoke yet. Feel sure if they sit down and start talking and be like, yeah. This is what I'm seeing right now, but I'm not going to go out of Miami. Hey, come here kid, let me tell you what's going on. No. You gotta do it yourself, son. Let me down and talk about the cover too. Here better. Here's what Locke says me and Joe talk out on the field. Talk over things, and then QB room. I mean it's hard to even think about how I couldn't learn from the guy we're in the same QB room every day on the same field. I get to watch his reps. I get to hear the play calls. He's running in my head, I think it was just mainly him. Saying that. Yeah I do have a young quarterback underneath it right now. But don't forget, I'm here to win football games. So he understands that Rogers are Rogers that a flacco is, is competitive and wants to keep his job, I would help him me, too, but you guys just selfish. I decided. Feel like you're treating like flacco like just refuses to share any knowledge came off across like, no, I'm not here to teach them. Anything? That's, that's not my job. Yes. Kind of is most socio twist an ankle. He's got a going info Joe. What coverage you see there go? Bleep yourself kid? That's not how that's going. That's how Brett farve was with exactly. What was that? Okay. Communists gate, Brett farve was Jaas alleged Povo. That about him. An update from the PGA tiny Tigers done. All you got to say he's, he just birdied the ninth hole. Michael tonight on our air at five thirty. What's going on Milwaukee? Ooh. At home, taking on Toronto is, I think the bucks, probably win this series is, but, but how much of a chance, do you give the raptor, not another Milwaukee, I'm just hoping that Toronto could stretches out to six games and don't give the box like a whole week off to re- to rest while the blazes and lake and warriors go through a tough series goes, not a k D's looks like he's out for the west finals. This was gonna go six to seven games against Portland. So I'm hoping that at least the bucks in Toronto that long to. Ali Smith's great post-Brexit novel

"Breakfast Brexit's Brexit, British people who voted to leave the European New European York. union. Hundreds of thousands of people have taken to the streets of London demanding a second referendum European leaders, say Celtic new deal Brexit in two weeks. Time is now unlikely outcome extensions. The Brexit process to the end of Tober at the latest. Three years ago, the people of the UK voted to pull out of the EU. But since then there's been this bizarre baffling series of parliamentary deadlocks deadlines extensions fast. Go after fiasco, the Scottish writer Allie Smith is writing a tetralogy of novels set against this not quite post Brexit backdrop each of them named after a season the third one in her series. Spring comes out this week. I spoke with Smith when the first book autumn had just been published in America. And I asked her to start with the reading. All across the country. People felt it was the wrong thing all across the country. People felt it was the right thing all across the country. People felt they'd really lost all across the country. People felt they really won all across the country. People felt they done the right thing and other people had done the wrong thing all across the country. People looked up Google. What is e u? All across the country. People looked up Google moved to Scotland all across the country. People looked up Google Irish passport applications. And that is Allie Smith reading from her new novel autumn. So this book has all the hallmarks of great fiction. It has literary loses and ideas, and it's somewhat formally. Experimental has epic timeframe over many decades. It is also a bit. However, as they say ripped from the headlines about which we say ripped from the headlines. It's a funny thing writing books, I've been thinking about writing seasonal quartet as it were for books, which will be called simply names of the seasons. But then go to make up a bigger boot for about twenty years and then couple years ago, I wrote a book, which my publisher here in the UK because I was reading really late to deadline that was far gone by the time I handed, and they did it within six weeks. And then I was like you can make this beautiful a book in six weeks so began to think about whether it would be possible. Do that quartet? I've been waiting to do. And then began to think about what it would mean to have contemporaine oval started writing this novel. And as I was writing it we came up to the referendum here in the UK. And you know, it was really obvious that there was a pretty big division coming an came. And so I asked my publisher in the end could I simply have an extra month to attend to the novel to make sure that the novel, I kind of fell would be cheating novel. If it didn't face a contemporary of the country didn't face it. So this was Brexit referendum happened eight months ago, this book came out five months ago. And then, of course, four months ago, we had our election here states, and you know, in some similar ways, I lots of people in the United States are as upset about Donald Trump being president as lots of Brits are about Brexit, which which I guess is good for you book, sales wise, right? Sales. What what's what's really happening? Here is the sense of division, which we sensed Brexit. And then what's happening in the America adds to this. And all of a sudden division is division which was already world ride is so in view, so made visible so striking. Also when one saw the basic outlines of who voted for whom in this presidential election, very similar demographically in every other way to the Brexit vote. I know and all happening as modem or division expedient political division. She sighs. Your characters in autumn, your main characters Lissouba, th and Daniel embody in various ways, these political currents and struggles. But the book is really about their singular personal relationship now to give a flavor of that and glimpse of their friendship. I would love you to read one of their chats the passage where she's eleven and he's eighty something. And they're and they're walking along the canal. Sure, hang on the verge. So both the color tones themselves are indicative of something of the state. But also the color names reference things the state is known for as well. You know, what I'm thinking right now and like sharing just say states, don't say cities. It will be very embarrassing did think about that for you as well. Some of them might sound like a city, but anyways, I'm going to give you the three colors for several of the states. And you have to tell me what state I'm talking about. Okay. Sure. In Williams has not done every state yet, sadly for Jaas not in the bunch. There's only about thirty of them so far. So for Judas, not one New Jersey's not one either on Dane, our home states. But. As an example. This is just an example. So everyone knows what we're talking about Massachusetts their colors are Plymouth green, Plymouth rock. I get it. But I didn't know Plymouth rock was in Massachusetts necessarily. I might have guessed it. Right. An example, but the other colors, colonial yellow and tuck it dune you might have gotten. You would think that after like at least two weeks of this of the game happening all around her that she would be interested in in. What's going on? Like, she doesn't even talk to anybody. Like, oh this ally. Like, she probably has no idea that this that there wasn't alliance that it's blowing up like there's so much going on in the house around her that we're we're eating up, and like she doesn't know any of what's going on because she just sits playing cards all day. So it's sad to see that. This is the way that her game has gone and agree. I don't know how she's getting to the end because she's not working with anybody. She's not trying to work with anybody her strategy or not strategy her her ability to just be friendly with everybody was going a decent way for a while. But it just this is the kind of game play that can get you caught in a sticky situation where she's at right now because if you end up on the block, and nobody cares enough to save you you're going to go home, which seems to be the case for this week. So not great for candy. I don't know if even said the numbers, but Brenton Gifford to I had her at a three, but I just talked myself down to a two so. It looks like to see Alexander just asked what principal Rousseau. At the two. Well, the audience finally broke broke the trend here and gave candy three very very barely. It's a three point four nine is why. Finds just just makes a three there for candy from the audience, which is going to complete a low rating here still not quite as low as it could have been, but but it's three average. Well, let's move onto the final person here Dina. Let's talk about DNA. I gave her a four last week. Brent gave her a four Melissa gave her five the audience gave her a three. So the audience was the lowest on Dina by far this week myself. I feel like Dina has proved I do I feel like I like what she did last week when she went on the block, and she managed to sort of talk both sides into thinking that they could work with her. She does have allies the allies are Tom and Kato, which is not great. But Tom and Cato are much bigger threats than her at the moment. She has moved down the hitlist to at least after candy, Tom and Kato, and it's it's even gone. To the point where they've been talking about taymor before deny that leaves DNA in the final five if Dina's in the final five, it's not like she can't win a mental competition. I think she could. And I think the DNA is the number one jury threat in the house. I think that if she gets to the end she wins hands down..

I mean, but I wouldn't have a problem with this flower. It would depend on. I it would depend on how it was done. I don't know how she did this. What the what the landscaping what some people consider dandelions flowers? Well, that's true. Yeah. Exactly. What was the deal? Certainly we've seen yards in our neighborhoods that you definitely want to report him and you're upset about I had one in my old neighborhood where the guy who decided to zero scape and his era. Escaping was simply not mowing the lawn at all ever for years and years and using newspaper for fertilizer, excuse me, newspaper pudding newspaper down this was south Austin? Of course, and. Seven eight seven zero four democrat big. Oh my God. I need to have a beco- side in his yard Betty. The tree product. So it looks so good dog downtown on the Don show. Good morning. Good morning. Hi, sir. I yeah. I had a comment about the traffic. I heard the last caller say that it would be better. If he switched to thirty five miles an hour on the highways, which is absurd. Yeah. He was he was he he just moved here from Michigan. Where are you from I moved here from Illinois? Yeah. Have a much much smaller, but actually from Germany, but the same thing the roadway systems in Illinois. A much different thing here in Texas, and you have people coming from all over the United States. Yeah. Driving from different states different speed limits. And then they come here with the roadways faster. So I think a bigger problem is proper road. Etiquette? You know, we have all these the drive in the in the passing lane, and they shouldn't even be allowed on the road rage in Texas. They can barely do eighty miles an hour, but I'm reasonable people that own a Prius. They want to be in the passing lane attitude. They get an attitude. Let me tell you man, passive aggressive, Prius owners may driving a Prius. What you're breastfeeding. Oh my gosh. Yeah. Merging sounds another. Be delay is people don't merge it. Just proper road. Etiquette? People won't talk the brakes and that somebody people get rude. I hear your Bryant road. And I I think that that is the biggest problem drive by breaker. Everybody slows down because there's a different turn. So I think that it's more than road rage and speed limits. I think that people need to be properly educated. Yeah. I actually good point. "And I feel like I fulfilled the spirit of that. Right. And that's part of why I have peace, and it is it's childlike. It is child like, yeah. And I mean, I think all along our lives there moments when our hope gets injured, and we don't like that. And so we don't want hope to be injured in other people, and we don't know what else to do. But to shut it down, which is like the injury. I mean, you think of like in that moment, your parents could have been like, oh, should he's going to be a quarterback. No. You don't want that? And it's you know, we've all had our hope injured, but that doesn't it bounces back hope balances back does one of the pieces of want to talk about was that this hope is really really expensive as you were talking about in the beginning. And it's personal to you. It's personal to you out there. Because. My relationship. My I did not work out. And I prayed with hope with intent that I wanted a good relationship. I wanted my family to thrive, right? And that relationship wasn't to be a part of it. And I could sit here right now and still be pissed at that. Right. So as I sat out stood outside with my feet on the ground. I said, I'm not gonna feel peace. Fuck you. My marriage was destroyed addictions. The whole thing. But I didn't. So I made a choice to accept that. And to make peace with it, which was to accept it. And then they'll allow new peace and new excitement and new adventure come into my life and creation and connection. And so. Hope this big, and it might be bigger than your specific desire. It might be way bigger. So anyone out there as you're going into the next? Phase of your life. I was about to say the next year Jenny does not want me to mention dates no No dates. dates no dates back because I was going to mention three events that we have coming up. Funny. I am fine. But you're going to have to maybe open up. I'm gonna suggest you have to open up your definition of hope, and you're gonna have to surrender some of the specific little things that you think you want for something bigger. And it can be as simple and profound as your feet on the earth and feeling peace with your wife with your kids with your dog lying here. Asleep? And she's just like, I gotta be honest. She's not a peaceful dog. She's very peaceful moment. So. Send that out to you. This is going to be a message of hope this year. Doing forward for a while. I'm going to talk about this because people coming to me, and they're hurting some level or not. And I it just finally hit me that I've been there. I really really really connected with them. I've connected on a mental level. But it wasn't until my feet were on the earth there. And I felt that piece that I remembered the horror. The horror of those times. And then this startling fact I have survived and I have thrived, and I have peace, and you can have it too. That's my message. So we have three events coming up. We do we've got the whole year schedule. But one only tell you about the first three. What's the first one?
